I was happy with Guardian Protection at first, but after I got to use the alarm system, I’m not really that happy anymore. I'm just tolerating it. The reason was the young man programmed one of the doors wrong. He programmed it saying that it was a basement even though it’s the garage door. The two other systems that I had before always said garage. I don’t have a basement in my home. Also, the volume of the machine is not loud enough for me to even hear it on the top level so the only way I would actually hear it say what room it is or what door is open is that I have to be downstairs. I can’t hear it from my bedroom, and I’m not happy with that. I’ve got to figure out how I can add some type of speaker on the alarm so that I can hear it. I’m just glad I didn’t take it to six years. I set it to three years and it's probably three years is too long. I’m very disgusted with Guardian.
Aminah,
I'm sorry to hear about your frustration. I've been informed that our Customer Care team has reached out to you and offered some solution. A service call would likely be the most helpful in this situation. I hope you will be able to schedule one at your convenience. If you need additional assistance, please reach out to social@gpsx.net.

I had ADT before then a salesperson showed up at my door and came in the house. He started talking about Guardian Protection Services and said that it was digital, and before I even knew it, he had me sign all these papers. He was very friendly, however, I felt like he tricked me in a way, and I told him that. He also charged me $10 more. Then the installation team came and put it in. Since I already had ADT, I knew how to use the system. The only thing was that he didn’t give me any new remotes. He left the ones here from ADT.
So I talked to customer service about that and he said that the remotes I had from ADT was all right. I asked them if I'm gonna be charged if something happens to one of these ADT remotes, then he said "yes." I don’t like that because I’ve had these for over three years. I also wanted the alarm taken off from my computer. It’s filling it up. I got that on my computer every time I leave the house and it's still there every time I come back. They told me to type in my alarm and it would go to my notifications but I’m not real good at the computer.
Hello Eileen,

I changed the surveillance system from land line to cell phone. I cannot afford paying the monthly fee anymore. I called to cancel the service and found that I had entered a 60-month contract. I knew that the monthly fee would go up with the new system, but I was never informed verbally of the 60-month contract, nor of the lack of a (sensible) termination fee. I am now trapped by Guardian Protection, who agreed to lower the contract by 20 months, without changing the monthly fee. Instead of having to pay for 56 more months, I now have to pay for 36 months.
It is my responsibility to read what I sign, yes, but it is your responsibility as an ethical provider to be very upfront about the ties that a contract creates especially when the contract is long to read and the representative is there, waiting so that she can leave for her next appointment. I would have never signed a 5-year contract because I will probably not even be in the country in five years. I read other comments online and, by far, I am not the only person who has found him or herself in this situation. It is very unfair, and it still leaves me with the enormous problem of how I am going to pay for this now that my labor situation has changed.
I am sorry to hear that you feel you had a negative experience with Guardian. We have offered several resolution solutions to help you in this difficult time. The contract also serves to protect both the consumer and the provider, by defining services to be provided, rates, terms and obligations of each party. Each customer has three days after signing the initial contract to consider it, ask any questions and cancel it with no obligation. After the three-day period, Guardian expends resources to fulfill its obligations and to provide all promised services.

The package that we got from Guardian Protection includes the monitoring of wireless and the wired devices like motion sensors, windows, and doors. Comes with the cell but no cameras. So far it’s fine but I’ve only had it for about a month. Their sales rep was good and the installers were knowledgeable about the product. They replaced the panel and rewired everything into the new panel.

We got Guardian's 24-7 security system. The service was all good except for one thing. We were having a house built and we have a motion sensor right by the front door. Our sales rep said it would not pick up anything under 85 pounds. We told her we had a dog but it sets it off every time with the dog so the motion sensor is useless to us because we can’t leave it on when our dog is around. We would have picked a different package without that if we had known. We’ve just moved into the house about a week or two and so far so good except for that motion detector. Overall, they were professional, courteous and their installation team was awesome. They showed us exactly how the system works.

We got the security system from Guardian Protection Services. We also have the life alert that came with the system and it has fire, ambulance and police buttons. My husband is ill so the alert button is the most important thing when he's here by himself. I called it the "I fall and can't get up button". Their staff was very pleasant, nice, knowledgeable on all that he was doing. He took some time in finding a non-hot switch that he could use because all our first switches in each room are plug-ins or hot switches. He had to jerry-rig around and go towards the other side of the room to get to the non-hot switch, but found one and got us hooked up. Then we had a problem with the phone but he found the problem and fixed it, and there's been no problem with the phone service since then. However, he was supposed to email to us something but we haven't received it yet and it's been over a week since he put the system in. Overall, they're helpful.

I went to buy a house. It was built brand new and they offered Guardian Protection Services. I got the surround system, full home security, flat panel installation behind the wall so that way we can plug our HDMI directly into the wall from the TV, and security system. The system looks basic but yet advanced. It’s easy to interact with but has all the features that I need. So far, the service itself is awesome. Their reps are easy to contact, too. However, the installation was a little bit not that easy and there was a few miscommunication during the process. They put it in the wrong location and they never came back to fix it. But the guy who came to do the final install made up for all of that because he was knowledgeable. He showed me everything and took his time. Overall, I'm satisfied.

We live in a mobile home and the package that we bought from Guardian Protection included the one that if anybody tries to break in, it's gonna send it off to the sheriff's department right then. We have the one for the front door and also the window. I love the service guy of Guardian. He was fantastic. He had a lot of problems trying to get them to do something through his tablet. He was new but not new as far as handling technical stuff. He’s very good and he’s the one that told us about getting that $5 a month extra for the warranty on the products in case we have to have a serviceman come out. He took over this other guy’s route or his area and he lives out of Spring so I told them to have him call me so I could tell him where’s the quickest way to get here. He also explained the emergency alert code.
However, they made one mistake. Guardian called me on a Thursday. I told them that they're in a hurry to send a technician out and that they can't bill our account because we don't get social security checks until 1st and 3rd. The rep said it's fine, all we had to do was give them the routing numbers. It was installed on the 27th and they billed it two days later even though it’s stipulated on the account, not until the 4th. Cost us a $30 overdraft but they've been pretty good especially when I contacted them about it. They sent me a request that they submitted. They are supposed to be taking care of it. I’m going to look in the account to see if it’s been solved because we have an account that has never been overdraft.
Dear Patricia,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I'm glad that you had a positive experience with your service. I'm looking into your billing concerns to make sure that this is resolved for you. We look forward to helping protect your home.

I moved to a new home two weeks ago and after being with Guardian for three years, they are making me wait one month or longer to transfer service to my new address. Their rude customer service associates constantly disconnect calls, give us countless excuses and their managers promise us calls back with a "sooner installation appointment" that we never get. The staff over their call centers in Pennsylvania (their headquarters) and in Phoenix, Arizona could use some training in effective customer service skills as they all stink! In fact, the only good thing this company is good at is at reminding us we are stuck in a contract with them and to fire them will cost us over $700 with "buyout discount." Meanwhile, my family and I have been left in a new, isolated construction site without the alarm system and the peace of mind we need! If safety is a priority for you and your family do NOT sign any contract with this phony, so-called "security company"!!!

Guardian Home Protection Services is the worst home protection company out there! Their sales man, Lloyd, came into my new home and took advantage of the fact that I was extremely busy and friendly to him. He lied straight to my face, telling me I was NOT LOCKED into any contract at all. Well, it's been three months and because their technology frequently fails and is more of a headache than a help, I went to cancel only to find that I am locked in for FIVE YEARS!! That man stood in my new home and said, "Nope, no locked in! Nothing!" And I believed him unfortunately. I have never witnessed such sneaky business practices. After reading multiple reviews, it appears that I am not the only one to be swindled by Guardian Home Protection Services.
After threatening legal action, they offered me a $750 cancellation (instead of a $3000 one that they had previously offered). Are you kidding me? $750 for three months of service that didn't even work quite often? That's simply not right. I am an MBA and I've researched countless businesses who pulled off sneaky business practices but this is one of the worst I've seen. I'm now looking at their financials and am convinced their actual business model is to profit from these cancellation fees (and through corrupt back-end arrangements with builders).
They tried telling me that the cancellation was for the equipment they installed. NO! My builder installed that and countless neighbors never actually activated their Guardian services (probably because they looked at the reviews unlike me and realized that this is a bad company). Do not do business with them! Avoid at all costs. Guardian Protection Services is a terrible, unsafe, dishonest company. It is a scam and a scandal and a menace to the public.

My system was installed less than 2 weeks ago. Two nights ago my family was woken up by beeping every few minutes, the alarm was not set. There is a sensor malfunction on one of the window contacts. I acknowledged it on the panel and it stopped. The next morning I received a call from Guardian and the beeping had started again already around the same time. She walked me thru how to stop the beeping and explained I would need a technician to come out but no appointments available for a full week. Later that day while I wasn't home the beeping started again while kids were home but I wasn't. I called Guardian again and this time it was explained that it would continue to go off every 6 to 8 hours until repaired! He also suggested "timing" silencing the beeps to bedtime so it wouldn't wake us up... So let the beeping go on for hours so that I can silence it right at bedtime. I said this was not acceptable and I needed a better solution.
He said I could silence all beeps but that would include countdown when setting alarm. I said that will work please email me the instructions as I'm not at home. He said they could send them within 24 hours. I could hear him typing so I feel that he could have sent an email. The beeping continued last night at 2:00 am and had to be silenced and again this morning at 8:00. I called again and was told how to silence the beeping and I said I wanted to permanently silence not 6 to 8 hours. This person said there was no way to do that without powering off the system completely. I mention the solution suggested by the person yesterday and she said, "oh yeah" then walked me thru how to do that. At this point, I don't know if this is going to work.

Our contract with ADT was almost up and the whole system I'm on was like phone line or 2G. It was obsolete so it's time to update it. My house is small and one glass shatter sensor is all I need to set off the entire house in case it goes off. I don't need motion sensors because I have animals in the house and I don't want those going off when they're moving about when we're not home. With Guardian Protection Services, our package included the window sensors, glass sensor, and the touchscreen device panel itself, which is ugly. I thought it was funny when my wife mentioned it's the touch screen. It looked like a baby toy, huge thing with a teeny-tiny touchscreen. I still like to have the weird alarm sound things on the side, so I guess that's why they went with the smaller screen. The service is pretty good so far. I liked the British lady that tells me what doors or windows are open.
My wife said that the guy who installed the system was really nice. He was awesome. The sales rep is quite a hoot and a pretty funny girl. Typically, people in security services field are not amusing, not fun to talk to or usually very cold. But with Guardian, I didn't have that experience. They were very nice and fun to talk to. I enjoy talking to people. They were amusing apart from obviously the system doing its purpose of checking the house.

Every time I cook the fire alarm goes off. Guardian finally agreed to send someone out to my house to move the fire alarm - still didn't work every time I cook the fire alarm goes off. Finally this weekend going off twice they offered to send someone out to my house and they replace the fire alarm. Still goes off today for a total of four times the fire alarm has gone off. Guardian Protection tells me that sometimes it goes off because if the door is open and it detects heat from outside or if the shower doors open it detects the smoke from the heat from the shower. He also told me that if I'm going to cook I need to call them beforehand and let them know to disregard the fire alarm so it won't turn on. They don't want to help me.
They want to send someone out to come check it again which they came out yesterday and I asked them "if you didn't fix it yesterday what are you going to do when you come out again?" They can answer my question. I want this alarm out. They want me to pay early termination fee for an alarm that does not work. This alarm system is faulty. The man told me that I talked to her earlier today that they could come out and take the alarm out but I would still have to pay for the rest of the system so the same place. I'm going to pay for something that does not work - very disappointed with this company.

My husband had lots of falls and if I have to leave for anything, it would be helpful if he could reach the fire department to come and get him off the floor because he couldn't if he fell. So we got a medical alert device with the key fob and a thing around the neck button. Another thing is that my daughter is already a widow and her house got broken into so she needs this device. The guy that came out to sign us up needed more training. My husband and I own two houses on this street, and when we signed up the phone numbers for one house were put on for the other one. He was in a hurry that he left me in doubt about several things. He also didn't leave a physical contract with me, so I didn't have any contact numbers to make corrections on the confusion with the phone numbers.
I was able to call and talk to somebody at Guardian and she cleared up a lot of things for me. I almost canceled but when the person there at Guardian told me that it was Diamond Certified and all that, that swayed me back in keeping it. I think we'll get a faster response than ADT has because people that have ADT signs sitting in their yards, they've been broken into and people that broke in are gone before the cops ever get out here. They kick the door in and go in and get what they want and they're out before anybody can get here.
Also, I requested that the payments be on the 15th of the month because that's when our medical and dental is deducted and I'll remember that way to put it in the checkbook even though it doesn't have a check number. It will help me remember what's been deducted from my checkbook rather than wait until I get a statement once a month. I can keep my register updated all the time if it's more convenient because otherwise I might forget these things that are deducted automatically.

We finally agreed to use their service mainly because the default home security system installed in our home in TX by the builder is a Guardian system.
Before we signed the contract, I asked the agent whether we could transfer the service to New York (NY) once we moved there, because we would move to NY within about half a year. The agent told us "Definitely, no problem" and Guardian would take care of the service transfer process from TX to NY. Once we moved to NY and requested to transfer the service, Guardian told us they need to charge us $500 and extend our contract to 5 years in order to transfer. Their monthly rate is about $50, much more expensive than many other companies. We did not want to extend the contract to 5 years and did not think it’s fair to pay the $500 fee either.
Our home in NY has existing home security hardware. Then we checked with Guardian if we could cancel the service. We were told the cancellation fee is $750. Our previous home in TX has all the pre-installed hardware for home security. Guardian technician came by and only did some initialization on the control panel and attached a few more sensors. $750 is a completely unfair bill for cancellation of the service. This is quite different from the early termination fee of a cell phone line in my opinion, because the customers receive a new and usually expensive cell phone when they signed a cell phone line contract, and the early termination fee is generally the compensation of the phone for the cell phone company.
The account management supervisor/director at Guardian, Ms. Kathleen **, is very hard to communicate. Based on the conversation, it seems to be no way to resolve the issue, except for paying the $750. Unprofessional at all in my opinion. Kathleen also told me Guardian would keep charging me $50 monthly until they receive the $750 payment from me, even though the home security system was not transferred to NY and was not in use in TX either. I am looking for a lawyer for help now. Even it finally costs me more in order to pursue this way, I still would like to fight for the fairness.

I got a camera, a key fob, a panel, a sign, and the alarms from Guardian. I got the sign and stickers yesterday. I needed these security features because of the neighborhood I live in. Guardian's service has been fine so far. The installers were great. I always befriend these guys that do this kind of thing. You connect with someone, mention something, and then you found out that your son and the installer were at the same camp. It's crazy stuff, but that's because I talk a lot. Overall, they were friendly and knowledgeable, and it's a pleasurable experience.

A rep from Guardian stopped by my house, and because I had ADT, I was under the assumption that he was an ADT person. He did not identify himself to Guardian until after he was in the position of having me sign up. At first, he said he needed to look at my system to make sure the batteries are charged and everything was working okay, so I thought he was an ADT rep. When he came in, he said that I don’t have a battery backup and since I have a promotional house, I should have gotten something, which he is going to give to me, and I thought if I was supposed to have it, then I should have it.
And then it wasn’t until after he finished all the stuff that I found out he was with Guardian. By that time, he had already scheduled the guy to come out and give me the new equipment. I told him he can give me the equipment as long as I don’t have ADT coming back on me and as long as my house is secured. He assured that he’d take care of it. He wasn’t totally upfront with me when he first came into my house. I would not even have let him in if I knew he was a Guardian rep. Other than that, the installation people were very polite and professional. They came and got the job done, and they explained everything that they could with all my questions.
Sharon,

I got a Guardian service package which includes the alarm system for the house, the front and back door protection, and the carbon monoxide alarm. There's a lot going on in my neighborhood, so the package was a good deal for me to get and I’m very satisfied with the service so far. The guy who came and told us about Guardian said he had given the package that includes the carbon monoxide alarm to someone else and a couple of days later after they got it, they had a gas leak and he was glad he gave them that package because if not they could have died. Yesterday, I actually had some carbon monoxide leaking. Guardian called me right away and the fire department came in. It’s a great service to have.
In addition, their sales representative explained everything about the services and was really easy to contact. The installation person came in, installed the system and showed my husband how to use the system, change passwords, and use the app on the phone. The only thing was when the person came and talked to me about the system, he told me if I had to create it, I will qualify and I wouldn’t have to pay a thing. And then the next day, Guardian called me saying that I had to pay $61 but I don’t know whatever he ended up doing because I didn’t end up paying anything. But maybe I will next month on the 10th.

Without asking a whole lot of questions, the sales reps answered all the questions and curiosities that I had and made sure that I was pleased with the service that they were providing and all the explanations they gave me. The technicians showed up half an hour earlier than they were supposed to, which they were very welcome, and showed us how the system worked. It was A through Z. The police, fire, and 911 services are all on the panel and I can use it should I ever need them. I just hope I never have to use the service. If Guardian's response is going to be as good as the service I've had up to this point, I won't have to worry about a thing. The service has been A1 all around.

I had ADT and right after I canceled it, Guardian called me. The main reason why I changed was the wireless because if somebody goes to break in, it doesn't do me any good if they can cut my wires. The salesperson was very knowledgeable and nice. The installation team were also very nice and I couldn't ask for anybody better. The only thing is I had to have them come out which they're going to in a couple of days and put my new keypad on because one of the numbers don't works but I have to keep punching the same number about six times before it actually goes on. I was supposed to get a sign for the lawn which I haven't gotten. Other than that, everything is fine and I'm very happy with the service so far.

The security, medical alert, and fire alarm were all included in the little box from Guardian Protection Services. But I need a book. I spoke with their guy Austin several times and he was supposed to come, but didn’t. He said a technician would, but he never did. Then a lady called me from customer service and said they were going to come today from 10:00 to 12:00 and explain about the whole phase of the system to me since their installer didn’t really explain much to me. For example, one little button that says “house” has been flickering since yesterday and I don’t know how to turn it off. I tried but couldn't. All these things seem to be just one issue but I don’t understand it. I need someone to say that they're coming.
Also, I want to have an exchange of the button that Guardian gave me because it's huge and it looks like a big watch. I’m a small, little girl and my wrist is very small. I did tell their staff that I wasn’t happy with it and he gave me the chain in case I could wear the chain. But I thought it was going to be at least another smaller face.
Guardian's services are not right because we don’t know how to make that thing function. On the third day, I knew that if I could cancel it, I would. But Austin kept telling me someone would come and that stopped me from cancelling. I told another company that I wanted to cancel with them because I have Guardian. They convinced me I should stay with them, too. I did, but theirs is only the 911 for my medical necessities. I would not recommend Guardian Protection Services.

In the beginning, the guys from Guardian Protection were really nice. The sales representatives were friendly and pretty good. The installation team showed me how to use the app and everything. The workers were really decent people and I like them because they answered any question. But when I tried to use the application, there was a big X on it and they told me maybe because it's a holiday. They said to wait for a day or two.
I felt that it's halfway done because the application doesn't work. And even the outside bell doesn't work properly. We got the same problem with the different applications. The remote doesn't work also and I already told the installer. He said he's gonna call Guardian to see what they can do. If not, he's gonna go over, however, I don't have much of a chance to be home. Then I thought too that it was an agreement for three years and when I signed everything in the end, they told me it’s 60 months. It's a long time, but there's nothing I can do now. To me, it's the same thing for any alarm system.

One of Guardian Protection Services reps came in the neighborhood. I purchased a service package that includes the basics and the fire detector. The sales rep was very knowledgeable and informative. He was able to answer all the questions I had. The installation team was good as well. They cleaned up after themselves, vacuumed behind wherever they worked, showed me everything I needed to know about it and helped me install it on my phone. It was very simple, easy and fast. Everything was same day and I didn't have to move anything.
The first couple of days, I had to keep getting used to it going in and out but I like it because now, just knowing that I have it, makes me feel a little better as far as safety. I posted that I have Guardian. I put the little sticky signs up showing the word in the back and the sign in the front. It might be more of a deterrent which is good. And a lot of times I can go away for weeks at a time. I recommended them to my sister and she switched from ADT just the other day.

My Guardian system is working to the degree that I know and understand it. At this point in time, I just had the normal in and out and so far, I enjoy that I have the voice reception when I come in and when I open the door. The sales reps didn’t necessarily explain the service levels. They gave me the option of deciding whether or not I want to go to another step and deal with the phone situation where I can go online and check, close and open the door. I told them I’m not really interested in that right now. I’m not that trustworthy of the smartphone. The system may be good but I’m not ready to go there just yet. I like the basic security and that’s as far as I will go for the time being. The installer showed me how to use the product, cleaned up after himself and gave me the booklet and the manual. I didn't remember all the things he said but I have my monitoring key and that’s what I’m using.
I just hope the company is legit because I didn’t go online to check it. At this point in time, I am satisfied with the services that I’ve received. Until there is an emergency, then I'll find out the validity and the sincerity of the employees that deal with this particular security service. Because with the previous company, I had a very bad problem. The quality of the employee knowledge of what they were supposed to do was very poor. This was one reason why I was eager to change from one security service to another. Once I am confident of the validity of Guardian, I will let others know. I will pass the word in town that they are a qualified security company.

I've been having issues with the people that were doing the installation of the alarm and the pricing of the services. I'm a little bit confused because the sales rep said that one company was doing the installation and the monitoring was a different company and gave me two different phone numbers. However, everything seems to be with the installer, so I don't know if it is the same person or if there are two different companies indeed. Aside from that, I'm going to be linked to them for five years which will cost me a lot of money since I rushed into doing it and I could've gotten the same thing for less somewhere else. So overall, I'm frustrated with the experience and I think changing to Guardian was a mistake.
Adelina,
I'm sorry for your confusion. There are two companies that are partnered to deal with your alarm system. Your system was installed by AMP Security which is a company more local to you but they are partners with Guardian and use our award winning monitoring center. I had some other kind of security before then they switched me over to Guardian Protection Services and I'm very pleased with everything. When I open the door, it buzzes there that a door is open and if there's a tornado in the area, it will go off. However, there are a few things that I'd like to get straightened up like when somebody is supposed to come here, they don't come, and I got a camera that shows my driveway which doesn't work.
Also, I got two more years on it and I'm paying $59.99. Why can't we get it lower than that? I know some other people who have talked to me that their service is lower than that and I've been a good person who hasn't called or caused big problems on them. They even get my money every month because it's automatically taken out of my checking account. So I wish we could come to better terms on the price. If we did I won't ever think about switching. Moreover, nobody's ever called or talked to me since they came around and put the system in. That's been three years ago and they were friendly then but nobody has come to check my stuff and make sure everything is up-to-date and working right. I'm disappointed in that. A guy from Guardian Protection Services came to my door and was really nice, very personable and knowledgeable. I went ahead and signed up before I found out how much the service cost. An installer came and then a little while later, another person joined him. Eventually, a third person came as well, but he was just maybe on standby because he just sat down in my living room and played with my dog while the other two were doing things. I had all these people in my house for six hours, from afternoon until the evening, and the system still wasn't installed right. It was frustrating. I also wasn't shown how to use the system until the next day when another person came in to complete the installation because it wasn't working.
When I called to speak to my previous security system and told them what the Guardian Protection system was going to do and that it was more up-to-date, they said they can do the exact same thing and they were only going to charge me a third of the cost. So I canceled Guardian's service.

Our neighbor was getting their Guardian Protection Services hooked up and so we asked him a bit about it to see if Guardian can give us a better deal, and they did so we cancelled Monitronics. We purchased the doorbell camera in and there’s a camera inside. We also have a help button for my mom because she has a major health problem--two percent lungs. There were times that I am not here and she’s fallen before. So they gave us one that she wears around her neck where she can press the button if she falls.
The satisfaction with the service was absolutely wonderful so far. The sales representative was very friendly and polite. Also, Ace is a great gentleman. He came over and installed the alarm. He was quick, professional, courteous and clean. We had Verizon when he went to install it. But Verizon's internet screwed up so he couldn’t hook up the doorbell camera. He told us to call Guardian and tell them to send him back after switching and hooking the internet, so he'll finish the job. We then switched over to Time Warner this time and I wanted no one else but Ace to come out and finish it. Guardian needs more workers like him and if they got those, then they got a damn good company because he’s a good guy.
Keep up the good work Guardian and keep up sending out people like you did. I believe word of mouth is the best advertisement you can get. You can spend all the money in the world putting it on TV, putting it in books and all that but the best is the word of mouth. And that will get you business, I guarantee you. However, the sales representative was courteous. Also, the installation team was very nice. He did everything he could, except that he forgot the sensor on the door that we always come in through, which is through the garage and that's the one we're having a bit of an issue with. And since there was already a system in, the installation guy just changed the box on the wall and put in the batteries around on all of the doors so there were no problems with him. My satisfaction with their services so far is all good. I hear when a door has opened and it's with each door. Their rep was easy to contact, took the extra time to answer my questions, and had patience with me because we were doing a lot of things that time. Both my sales and the technician were great young men, but I’m having trouble with my camera right now.

We had a gentleman from Guardian Protection Services stop by a couple of weeks ago to discuss their services with us. We got their package with the fire alarm and the medical alert. Their installers came within about a half-hour afterward. Our system is relatively new and so far, it seems to be working fine. We haven’t had any problems. The only thing was I didn't like the swiftness and the pushiness of the sales people. I didn't like the idea that they used this house here as a promotion house. I told the man that we should have more time to discuss it among ourselves, but we couldn't and I had to make up my mind right then. I’m always hesitant when something like that happens because it's very leery. That’s not good business.

I had ADT and I needed an upgrade. Guardian Protection Services decided to do it for free. I have the "help by phone" and "can’t get up button" and also the fire alarm monitoring and the smoke detector. The rep was very nice, however, the rep indicated that they were going to cancel my ADT service and I don’t know whether they have or not. The rep also indicated that the price was not going to change, but in the contract it says that it can change at any time. Their installation guy was over two hours late and was a little less than extremely prepared. It took him a lot longer to do the install than I thought it should have. Nevertheless, the service has been fine so far.

People said that the property that we moved into has a lot of break-ins. So we wanted to make sure we have protection all around our house especially in a new home. A Guardian Protection agent came to my door and explained their service. The sales reps were good. The installer put things up improperly so the reps took it upon themselves to make sure they resolved the issue. They came into the house and fixed the problem. They went beyond to make sure that everything was good on our end and the system is working fine now. However, someone tried to call my credit when I didn’t authorize anybody because I know I didn’t give anybody my social security number. I’m not even sure why that was even necessary. They never explained that my credit will be called in order to get the service activated. That was the only disturbing part to me.
Hello Lashay,

Never had a problem in the home we set up the systems in mainly because we never used. When we moved, however, it all went downhill. I was told to sign paperwork in my husband's name, which I would not do without his permission. Then they never forwarded our information to the people installing the system. Then, when we didn't receive a call from the install company, they wouldn't give me the number for them - Top Secret stuff! You expect me to allow people in my house and you won't give me their number? Really?
As if the illegal practice of signing my husband's name to the forms wasn't enough and this mix-up, their customer service refused to communicate with me via email since I worked 3rd shift. Then they blamed me for not keeping up communication. Now I'm watching a tennis match of the blame game between them and the install company. I just want out, but they insist on making me give reports to social media and filing complaints with the BBB. That's fine. I'm young, strong and my endurance is good for fighting for what's right. I just want out! Shady place. Stay away!

I had a really bad experience when Guardian Protection Services started us on the program. They had the price down so we gave them the okay. We have a big house and my elderly mother falls in her bedroom a lot. Hence we ran a test - I yelled for help after I pushed a button, but there was no possible way it can be heard from the bedroom. So Jordan, the manager, said that we have to have two panels on the doors. The installer, Steven, however only installed one so I told him about the test we did. He agreed to put in two panels. Jordan told me though that another panel would cost almost $140, which is not what he promised when he sold me on the idea. I'm pretty upset about that and I'm very dissatisfied with Guardian.
Jordan also said that an installer named Kevin will call within 15 minutes. However, he didn't call until quarter to 8 last night, when my mom and I were already in bed. Now I can't get hold of him - I've left messages but he's not calling back. Steven also showed us how to turn it on at night and showed us the button to turn the alarms on. We found out later however that it's only for doors and not for the motion sensors. He was also standing right in front of me while a lady from Guardian was asking me how the installation went, so I didn't have the chance to think about the questions. I taped the whole thing and they could definitely hear Steven telling me to say yes, even before the young lady had a chance to finish the question.

We had it scheduled and they kept rescheduling us on the day that we originally were supposed to be scheduled. And then they never told us that we needed to bring the old equipment. There was a lot of back and forth and a lot of calling. We were here for almost four days before we were able to get the system installed. It was supposed to be installed the same week that we moved. Guardian Protection Services was just fabulous. I decided to get the alarm system just to have the peace of mind with security and surround sound for the basement for the games and movies I bought. I thought it was a good thing to go with them versus always going with the big brands like CPR and ADT. Guardian's sales rep was great. He went through everything that was offered and it was pretty interesting. It made the overall experience great. My brother was here during installation and he told me everything went well. They explained everything, showed him how to use the alarm, and answered all of the questions he had. So, when my brother reiterated that information to me, it was just easy.
The attention to detail and communication would be the best that I took from with this. They were always in constant communication and everyone was detailed about everything every step of the way. We just felt that they really explained how everything would work. They showed me where the speakers were going to be, and where the wiring would be in the home as far as for the data and the telephone wire. Everything was right where I selected it to be.

The installation guy came back to put a cell booster and I didn’t even realize that they were going to do that. It's good that the security system they installed is connected to my cell phone where I don't have to have a home phone. It also came with a remote control where you could arm and disarm the system without having to get on the control panel. I haven't had any problems and we've been very happy. The transition from our old security system provider was easy and it's great for the money.

They will take all the time in the world to sell you on the product and then wham bam they're gone and you're left hoping you remember it all. Using the unit leaves you very anxious!!

It's only been recently that I had Guardian Protection so it's been positive so far. The installer of my original system, who was linked to Guardian, called to tell me that my system needed to be updated because my current carrier was not going to update their system right away. It was complicated for me. I had them before and I've experienced a burglary, which I don't want that to happen again. The package I got includes door and window monitors, a couple of motion sensors, an image sensor, and a smoke alarm. Initially, my experience with them describing the system and installing it went very well. The installation guy was very good, positive and knowledgeable. He knew what he was doing which was a comfort and relief, given my past experience with other technicians. The sales representative, on the other hand, was very thorough in describing the system.
However, I still have an issue with my image system not being able to upload. I was waiting for a call back from them after leaving a message yesterday. And I also have one Z-Wave sensor that may be a problem as well. I'm getting a little bit of a sinking feeling because my experience with the other company before is I couldn't ever get a hold of anybody and it's very frustrating. So, I hope that Guardian is more responsive.

I have had Guardian Protective Services since 2003 and have paid every month since that time without thinking much of it. Lately my account went off for several minutes without callback from Guardian. Few weeks ago, I hired a handyman who worked in the house and erroneously set off the alarm. It rang for several minutes with no callback from Guardian. I set off the alarm and left it for several minutes - again with no callback from Guardian.
On March 30, 2016, I called Guardian to report their lack of response and a customer service told me everything was good at their end. I told him if things were good at their end but not at mine, it does me no good. He said he could send a technician to my house with co-pay. I refused saying I have been a customer since 2003 and he could send a technician without cost to me. He refused. I told him he would not send a technician to check why they were not responding to alarm going off, I would disconnect the service. He did not care if I disconnected the service and he insisted that I must co-pay. Another thing I found out is Guardian changed their customer service number (877-705-3399) I have always had without notifying me. I had to search the websites to find their number to call them.
Today April 8, I called Guardian and asked to cancel. The agent said they came to my house August 2014 to install a new chip in my house that permits me to communicate with their central office, which locked me in for five years. Really? Where is the chip in my house? Why were we not told about it? How come the chip didn't communicate with the central office several times the alarm went off without a callback from Guardian? I told him I was never aware of that and I have been a customer since 2003. She said she would not cancel my service. I told her I was not aware of any communication device in my house that permits me to communicate with them. There is nothing in the house other than regular keypads. She said my keypads were changed in 2014. If my keypads were changed because I have had it since 2003, that is not my problem. The chip thing was new to me.
I asked that my service be cancelled since they are not providing effective monitoring but the agent refused and said she was not trying to give me hard time. However, that was exactly what she did. After almost 13 years of my association with Guardian, I will no longer use their service since they cannot provide effective services and start digging up things they never provide. I cannot go back due to these bad experiences.

I decided to get Guardian after my best friend highly recommended them. My experience with James the sales was really good. He wasn't at all pushy, very informative and nice. The tech came out for installation. The home already had a security system so he was just connecting the system I guess. He spent 4 hours running up and down and in and out of the house. He failed to notice that there was a keypad on the second floor and almost installed one. He never left any yard signs or stickers. One keypad only gave me 10 seconds to exit and after trying to change it he said there was no way it could be changed. A few days later I noticed that the main box was in the garage. The garage does not have sensors and in my opinion not safe nor secure.
I called James my salesman and explained my concerns. It was Easter weekend and he told me that right after the weekend he'd get someone out. He was able to schedule a tech to come out. I called to speak to a manager. The same day the tech was coming to voice my concerns and my experience so far. I have never spoken to a manager so indifferent to my complaints. Very unapologetic and dry. He told me if I didn't feel safe enough to purchase more equipment. I explained to him that the main box was in a unsecured area with wires exposed. My concern was someone breaking into the garage and cutting those wires. He said that it wouldn't affect anything because there's a backup battery.
I thought changing the spot of the main box was probably the best thing to do. He said that that is impossible as everything is already hard wired. I was very unhappy with his response. Two hours later Richard came to my house and in 45 minutes changed the exit time, the main box to a secures area and gave me signs and stickers. When I asked Richard what would happen if I cut those exposed wires in the garage coming out of the main box he said it would cut the communication to the control center. Thank you Richard and James. No thank you to the rude lying manager. I will not ever recommend this company.

One thing that was explained very well to us was the actual keypad, but as far as the remote and the app, which we would probably be using majority of the time, we have no knowledge about. He just went briefly over the remote and I don't think he showed the app. We can't use the system because it is very sensitive. The salesperson said that the $39.95 monthly rate will be locked in for 5 years (yahoo!), but he didn't point out the fine print in the contract that says we are also locked into this contract for 5 years. When we tried to cancel the service this month (March, 2016), we were told that we would have to pay $1,400 cancellation fee. We have no choice but to keep it for another 11 months since it's cheaper to do that than pay $1,400 cancellation fee. Furthermore, the contract says that after the initial term of 5 years, it will automatically renew for successive 5 year terms unless we cancel the contract in writing 30 days prior to the initial expiration date! Buyer beware! Take time to read everything before you sign.

I thought that was nice but I didn’t need one. With Guardian, I’m getting more for less money. We’re older so we have less money because we’re retired. They are also very fast and efficient. Then the younger gentleman that was putting a new thing up for us on the wall, he was explaining it to my husband while I was on the phone talking to someone verifying that everything was done. My husband’s very happy.
Guardian Protection also gave me a medical alert necklace. I don’t wear it to bed because I’m afraid I might turn-over and set it off. I recently fulfilled my five-year contract with Guardian Protection Services to provide a physical alarm system in my home and the monitoring of that system. After finding significantly less expensive monitoring options I cancelled my monitoring service with Guardian. When I did so I very specifically asked the representative if my alarm had any kind of lock out code that would prevent me from using a different monitoring company, I was told there was no lock out code. Fast forward a month when I actually attempt to reprogram my alarm to work with a new monitoring company to find that the default installer code for my system had been changed. Upon calling Guardian to have them a) reset the code or b) give me the code, I was informed that they do not do either of these things, claiming they own the programming in the alarm system.
To date they have refused to provide that installer code. So Guardian is essentially holding the alarm system I purchased hostage. The alarm still works at a basic level, in that it will sound an alert locally, but it will not be monitored or engage local police, fire, or emergency services. I very very much liken this to cellular phone providers who refused to unlock cellphones to be used on a different provider that had met the original contract obligations. In 2014 President Obama signed H.R.1123- Unlocking Consumer Choice and Wireless Competition Act into law to stop this practice. I would very much like to see a similar law enacted for home alarm systems. It is my understanding this is a common practice in the alarm business, I have found many of the same complaints on other companies like ADT for example.

My experience with Guardian Security is very similar to other reviewers, in that I was solicited for Guardian Security alarm services, administered by AHS (or AMP Security), and signed up for a 5 year contract. The 5-yr contract stipulation is written quite plainly on the contract. The young man who came over to my home explained it fully and since I plan to live in my home for at least that long, it was a good deal.
If you did not read the contract before you signed up, THAT IS YOUR FAULT. Unless you are mentally incompetent, you are responsible for understanding any contract into which you enter. There is no excuse. No one has taken advantage of you. And you should have made a more informed decision, considering how stable your life situation is, your income, etc... Before entering into a contract. This service works as advertised. It is a monitored alarm system. They call me, and my family when the alarm system is tripped (so far accidentally). This is peace of mind, and my loved ones are worth the $55.99/month I pay. Contract buyouts are not exclusive to this company, and the company is not cheating you for enforcing a contract you willingly signed.

Being a female I was scared to live on my own so the sales rep came out and at first was sweet. Said that because I am new they can guarantee me a rate for 5 years! I thought "Wow how nice." HOW NOT NICE! I ended up being moved around for my job and when I went to cancel the buyout was $2,700 because when I signed the line for the install I signed a 5-year contract!! On top of that they couldn't even find a spot to conveniently hang on the wall so it sat on my kitchen counter, nowhere near my front door. Really helpful!
The stupid thing now just sits in my garage somewhere. What is even more awesome is that they sent me to collections after a year of arguing and I get the call the DAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS EVE!!! Wow Happy Holidays to the WORST company ever. This is going to go straight to my lawyer now because this shady company clearly has done this to way too many people. BUYER BEWARE!!! I signed up with Guardian after seeing some good reviews and being told I had qualified for a 'free' installation and payments of $42.99/mo. The technician came out, was friendly, and installed everything and left. We sold the house 6 months later and moved into a home with an existing security system. I called and spoke to a representative named Chris who informed me that I had signed a 5 year agreement. He sent me a copy of the document which they are now doing through docusign. I looked through the document and realized that while I had signed one part of the document to verify that installation was complete, that my initials all over the rest of the document had been forged.
I have sent emails, spoken to Chris and another representative named Matt and thought that the contract was being canceled. However, I continue to get calls from the company. I called again today and spoke to a representative named William. I was told that in order to cancel service that I needed to contact the police, but that even after I do that, that Guardian are not 'signature comparers' and that I am still responsible for a contract that I did not agree to. At this point I would never do business with this shady company. It shouldn't have taken this much time and energy to cancel a contract that was clearly forged by someone in their employees. Beware... DO NOT do business with Guardian Protection Services!

I feel violated! They originally signed me up for a 36-month agreement. After a year under the contract, we sold our house and moved. My new house had a fully functional security system, however, in order for Guardian to transfer my remaining service contract to this house they said they had to change the control board and the keypads. In order to do this, they said my previous contract was now void, and I would have to sign up for a new contract of 39 months (they no longer do 36-month contracts)!!! My new community provides free security monitoring as part of our HOA dues. I know I had to decide whether to pay out my old Guardian contract with nothing to show for it and use my community service, or have them take over my new house and increase my contract to 39 months. Be careful what you sign up for! The rules of the game may change on you!

I wish I read all those reviews before I signed up for the service a year and half ago. I just tried to cancel it due to several reasons, and was told since I signed a 5-yr contract with them, my cancellation fee is over $1,300. I signed a what?? The only time I heard about this "5-yr" phrase from them before today, was when the salesman telling me they were able to keep the same cell provider rate for up to 5-yr at the time when he was selling the security service to me, because their security system uses cell service. To me, that did not mean the contract he was selling me was a 5-yr contract. Was I wrong??
Their relationship with the cell provider is really none of my business. And now that I see I wasn't the only one who was tricked into a 5-yr contract, I sort of feel better, but not really. Wish I did better research on them. I usually do my homework well, but they managed to sneak in shortly before my due date, so I was too busy planning all the baby stuff to do much else. And they sure got me good!

We signed on with Guardian when we built a new home in December 2012. We used their service (it was fine) for 2 years, and then my wife lost her job. We had to sell our house and move to KS for a new job. We called Guardian and asked to cancel the service because the new homeowners didn't want the service. They told us we had signed a 36 month contract and even if we turned off the service, we would have to pay out through the end of the contract. So I asked them to show me where it states that in the contract. They can't... because it doesn't. The only reference to term is that it's a 3 year deal, however there is no mention about what happens if you need to cancel early or if you move out of state. In fact, the only mention at all to anything relating to 36 months is one field that says "length of service" and the sales rep wrote in 36 months. We escalated multiple times but continued to get the runaround.
My request? Show me in the contract where it says I have to pay out the end of the contract if we move, and I'll pay it. Finally, a supervisor told me it's "implies" that there is no getting out of the contract. And that it "implies" you have to pay it out if you move out of the state. Granted, I did not go to law school, but I'm pretty sure a legal document cannot "imply" something – doesn't it need to be in writing to be enforceable? They have now turned us over to Collections and we're getting harassed on that side. I would understand them enforcing it if we still lived in that house and just decided to switch to a new company early. But we didn't – we moved half-way across the country.
Oh, they did volunteer to waive the fee ONLY if we signed a new 36 month contract on our home in KS. Nice of them, eh? Sorry, but I'm a lot safer in Kansas than I was in Florida. I don't need an alarm here. I would be careful signing on with Guardian unless you are absolutely positively positive that you will be in your house the length of whatever term they try to lock you into.

First off, the guy who came to install did not tell me there was going to be a hole in my wall. He did not tell me the contract was sent by email, he did not tell me that I could get out of the contract. They will not cancel the contract due to it being past the three days, however I was not aware that it was three days as I never received the paperwork. They use intimidation to get you to answer all the good things on the surveys as well. He was standing right there when the call was made! Called because fire alarm went off, fire truck came, never got a call to confirm to dispatch, so I call in to the Guardian Services, I tell him we never got a call and my call log was empty, he changed his answer to, “Oh, we have the wrong number” even though at first he swore up and down he called me on the number I called in from.
The second day I got the alarm, I called to cancel and the lady says I have to call sfi, so I did. Then they didn't have my information correct either. Please tell me why is it that I get the runaround, then they say they will give me the rate and exact thing that my brother had and then I didn't get it then they say they will have a service call, but no one ever called me back. Then I finally call them again, they agree it was wrong, and say the guy pressured me and that I needed to know this and that, and then say they will send someone with a new contract and a new rate and it will be fine. The same guy comes to give a new contract and new window alarms that was supposed to be done in the first place!!! So please tell me if I am confused and complaining about services why send the same guy???
I call and talk to Sonny at guardian and he acts like he cares but really they just are all playing a game, they are all like HR people there for the company not there really for your needs, the customer does not truly matter, they do no care if your family is safe, just as long as you have a pay day for them. I call back to check with Sonny and someone else gives me the runaround and the guy states that they reviewed the recordings and it was all done correctly and that I have to pay the fee to cancel. Of course right, then I explain did you review where the guy says he was wrong and where I tried to cancel and have to tell them to send me the agreement in the mail and where the guy said I get a new contract? Of course not, then I ask for a higher up supervisor and guess what? No, it will be two more days until they can deal with me again! So KEEP YOUR MONEY, FIND A DIFFERENT COMPANY!!!

I was injured in a terrible auto accident. The other driver was cited. I had to have 3 level fusion in my neck due to the accident. I was unable to work and lost my home to foreclosure. As if this all was not bad enough, I am still being billed a year after the foreclosure by Guardian. The house wasn't even occupied for about 6 months and the alarm was off. Per Guardian's contract I must continue to pay $50+ month until my contract expires. (Unless I pawn this horrible contract to a friend or family member!) I am a senior citizen, and was a Guardian client for over 10 yrs. This is a greedy company with very unfair practices. This type of contract and extended billing should be illegal.

I initially inquired about a home security system back in September of 2014. My home already had Guardian equipment installed by the previous owner so naturally I contacted Guardian. I was verbally offered a 36 month agreement, three months of which were "free" if I signed up for service using autopay. When January 2015 rolled around I called Guardian to inquire why I had never been charged a monthly fee on my Amex, the card I told Guardian to use for automatically processing payments. Guardian informed me that due to an initial credit I was issued when service was started and the three months free promotion that I would be charged until February.
Shortly after, I became victim to fraudulent activity on my credit card. I attempted to login to Guardian Protection to update my payment method because my Amex had to be cancelled due to the aforementioned fraud. The Guardian system wouldn't allow me to access the part of their systems where payment methods are entered. So, I called. The customer care representative tried a couple times to "reset" my account without success. The proposed resolution method was for me to read my credit card number to them so they could input into their system. I was told to monitor my email for a reset option soon to come. This email never arrived. I tried again today (July 2015) to login to update my payment information. The Guardian system kept cycling me back and forth. When I tried to access the customer login page, it stated that my account was locked out due to too many access attempts.
So, I called Guardian. I was told that they would reset my account, to wait 10 minutes and try again. I hung up. I waited three hours and tried again. I was able to create a new login for the main Guardian Protection site; however, when I tried to access the payment system via the link to "make a payment" it stated that I was already an "autopay customer". I called Guardian again. This time, I stated that I initially tried to gain access to their site a few months back without success and that I was experiencing the same troubles again. Additionally, I told them that I have NEVER been able to gain access and that each time I try to change my payment method, a band aid is placed on the situation and I'm told I have to just read them my credit card number. I told her that due to recent fraudulent issues I wasn't going to give her my card information.
She assured me that she would "reset" my account to resolve the problem. I explained that the reset option was already done. She put me on hold, returned some time later and said to wait for an email indicating that my account password was reset; this email was to include a temporary password. I hung up. I did receive the email with the temporary password, but this time, the Guardian system wouldn't allow me to re-register. I called customer care again. She assured me that my account could be fixed by "resetting". I told her I've already been through that, twice today plus once back in March. I explained to this agent that I also asked for access to the system back in March without success. She put me back on hold. She told me that I should just read her my credit card numbers and I explained my recent fraudulent charge issues and that I wasn't comfortable giving her my card number... back on hold.
While on hold I continued to try to register. Criteria for password as follows... 8-32 characters, first or last character can't be numeric. Also, I was directed to change my challenge question, which I did. I tried entering all of the information, multiple times without success. When I say multiple times, I literally mean SEVERAL different options for passwords, all of which met the required criteria. The agent returned to the line and I asked to speak with a supervisor who did take over the call. She apologized and told me she could resolve the issue. I explained that I've never had access to their payment system despite multiple calls back in March and now again in July. I was fed up at this point and explained that I was fed up and just wanted to cancel. Here comes the fun part... contract.
Sandy stated there was a termination fee to cover equipment cost. I responded with the fact that I didn't receive new equipment. Rather, it was already installed in the home. It was at that point that Sandy changed her answer to me owing 30 more monthly payments at $31.95 per month. I asked her why she changed her answer from "equipment cost" to "monthly payments". She didn't have a response. I asked Sandy to read to the verbiage in the contract which covers how many times a customer should have to call about an issue before it's actually resolved. She stated she was reviewing the contract and said that she couldn't find anything covering problem resolution. She, AGAIN, asked me for my credit card information verbally over the phone. I explained my identity theft issue. I escalated the issue to Sonny, another level supervisor.
I explained the entire landscape of the situation. He explained that the termination fee applies similarly to wireless technology companies such as AT&T. I explained that AT&T termination fees apply to cover subsidy in equipment costs, not service. He then stated that unfortunately I was locked in to 30 more months of payments. I asked him to do the math... service started in September of 2014. It is now July 2015. On a 36 month contract I should owe 30 more payments. He stated that the three month free offer means that the three free months don't count towards the 36 months. (lied to by initial sales rep).
We went around for about 45 minutes. I requested the issue to be escalated higher. He did, and called me back 30 minutes later. He stated that his senior leadership team acknowledged their lack of ability to resolve the account access issues, but they firmly believe their service has been acceptable. He stated he could do something to help me get access to their online system... but at this point, I have zero faith. Here I sit in a contract that, per Sonny, doesn't now end until "March of 2018"??? How is this possible. This doesn't even make any sense! When I asked how many attempts a customer should have to make to resolve an issue before the problem is resolved, he said "one". Terrible company. I'm left with no option to have payments processed except to read them my credit card numbers and risk another fraud issue. That, or pay their $958 termination fee.

My builder for a new home required use of Guardian to have electrical outlets, phone outlets, and cable outlets installed. No other option. I used them, accepted the "free" security system, added a few extra cable outlets and moved on. I cancelled that home purchase. Bought another house. They automatically transferred their "contract" to the new house with no new paperwork and no notice to me. I specifically told the Salesman that I may not be able to afford a monthly security system and could I cancel at any time with the system installed in my home? He said "absolutely." He stated I would not be responsible for any charges if I canceled. He also said I would get a keypad doorknob and light bulb controlled by app for free after I moved in. He said they would bring it at the install appt.
Fast forward to last month. I said I don't need the alarm as they will only allow delay on one door and my family uses two doors and the app never worked so we have to leave it off. They tell me I signed a contract. I was shocked. I said what contract. Apparently a clause that states that the monthly price is fixed for 5 years is actually a clause meaning you have to pay this. It does not say that. The sales rep stated this clause meant that they could not raise your fees only. I was also told that the equipment for the door and light was a lie.
I could not believe it. I asked what they would do about their lying salesman. They said nothing. I asked where it says that you have to pay the 5 year monthly rate at cancel. They admitted it is not there in my contract. I only wonder if anyone has sued them? I am considering it as the only paperwork I have is not for my address. I have never lived at that address. Then in 2014 my battery died and someone come out to fix it but when he was done the system did not talk anymore and wanted to charge me to fix it. The sensor for the back door keeps falling off and I have to put sealer on it. This year a representative came to my door offering all this stuff do Guardian and a sign that would look nice in the yard and didn't even recognize that the sign I have is for Guardian. I told them I was unleaded with their services and they turned it as if it was my fault. I am so tired of businesses - promising a person one thing then not honoring what they said. It is all about who can screw over the average consumer and get the most money out of them instead of helping and being the best company. The government wants to know why people are not saving money and even the government is in debt. If the world had more honest people and businesses who cared input their product then the average person would not have to be paying more then they need to for things that do not work. In approximately Oct 2013, I became a new homeowner and was introduced to a man who offered security for homes by Guardian Protection. At the time my husband and I was on Furlough and I told the representative/sales agent that I could not afford anything new at this moment because I am on furlough and do not know what the outcome will be. The agent said that was fine he will waive payments for 3 months. I thought that was great. The agent provided some of the product and recommended to start from the highest package and indicated we can always change packages. In addition, he explained the awesome features. One feature that we were educated about was regarding the lights, the door locks and TV's. That I can turn off and on away from home. I could buy the product from Home depot and when we were ready he would come and install them and no additional cost. My husband said "ok."
At the time the agent never mentioned glass breaking sensors or window sensors as a possibility and never stated if I wanted these products later that I will have to pay additional and installation. Other things this agent failed to mention was that we were on a 3 year contract and that relocation comes at a cost. I was educated that this was a 2 year contact and that relocation was free. I called several time regarding the contract. I discovered I was lied to regarding the contract. Customer service stated that they would contact their 3rd party "Protection Service." I never knew I was dealing with a 3rd party. I never received follow-up calls regarding the sales agent's misleading sale. I called several times complaining about this issue regarding the contract. Finally my contract was lowered to 2 years.
I called about the services and asked, "Why is my payment so high, when other security system companies offer the same product and services and pay less?" Customer service did not entertain that nor care. I called today as 04/21/2015 and I finally received a true break down on how Guardian Protection Service company, product, and services work and realize that not only am I paying too much for the little service I have. I cannot upgrade to a different package. In order for me to get more product and services I have to pay, and this is a discounted rate an extra $465.00 and that is for the product only and waive installation. Initially I was told I would have to pay installation but, after calling the third time, the representative offered to waive the installation. I told the customer service "on your website you have better packages can I start all over since the sales representative from protection services misrepresented your company?"
No, I would have to finish out this contract then I will be offered a better deal or package. What? So, I have to stay and unsatisfied mislead customer and then be offered something better? And, I have to cancel one month ahead or else my contract will extend. Which, I was never educated until today and I was never educated I was buying or leasing this product until after I made my first complaint. I recommend not using a this party if you are going to blame the mistakes on the third party and still do a dissatisfaction to the customer who wants your services but, just wants to be treated fair and have the correct information. A binding legal document should not be sold by a third party if Guardian Protection is the one that we have deal with regarding the relay of information.
Because the information was not provided correctly regarding services and product. I am a very unsatisfied customer. Seeking a better package, better comparable prices, with more product but, I can't do that until my contract ends. I do not understand this system. I would like to have the opportunity for better service and product as a new customer comparable with other services now, that I see what all my options are and understand how things work with Guardian Protection. Or, cancel my service with no further charges.

After hearing from Guardian about my inquiry, I can appreciate and understand their reasoning in not providing the codes to secure their proprietary information from being altered thus helping this customer and many others the company serves from having unneeded and detrimental events happen from their system not behaving properly as installed by the installation service.
Original Review: April 10, 2015
I have been a customer of Guardian Protection Services since May of 2012 and all I can say is I scratch my head on the way they do business with customers. After reading many of the posts left in the past on this site, I see I am not the only one being treated like "an incompetent individual." My journey began in early March 2012 with a home meeting to discuss what system I would like and what needed protected. I was presented with a GE Concord 4 system which would handle my needs perfectly. I paid a lot of money for this system and it is not leased; I own it lock, stock and barrel paying in full for each and every piece of it. Plus, I paid for the system installation as well.
When the installer came to my house, they had the WRONG system picked; I had paid for a Concord 4, NOT a SimonXT. I was told then I would have to reschedule the installation but I stood my ground and said there is no other date; it needs to be completed today. After an hour of waiting, the correct system was delivered and installed. The system was programmed to meet my needs covered in the home meeting, but there was a significant issue which occurred afterwards.
Before the installer left, both the default dealer and installer codes were apparently changed leaving me unable to make changes to arming modes (i.e. arm to stay or away without a code; just hit the appropriate button), change sensor groups (i.e. instant, delayed, timed, etc), learning new sensors to the system and or removing unused devices from the system board so the system is not looking for them (i.e. keypad, remotes, etc.) and beeping every few minutes in fault. Another way to put it would be, I have paid off a car and was denied the title of ownership; the vehicle would be mine for keeps in this case.
I had complained to Guardian about the codes being changed to ones they only knew and was given the explanation the codes are "proprietary information" and will not be disclosed in any way; reason being to prevent "false" alarms and to keep the company stable. That is absolute garbage; when you pay for something in full, it is yours with EVERYTHING included. I was told if I wanted to make changes, a tech would have come out (which costs an arm and a leg; no surprise) to make the changes and probably the codes will be changed again to something different to prevent the OWNER from making changes should they see the code being entered.
It is absolute garbage to be treated like a child and being told in other words "hands off." If you currently have an inactive system in your home and are wondering if Guardian should be the monitoring company, buyer beware! Just to have Guardian take over an inactive system is the same as buying a total new system (boxed and bar-coded in the same way as getting it from Guardian) piece by piece from a retailer or online.
Plus, if you use Guardian as your monitoring service, you will be required to purchase a contract (for 2 years; wait try again; 5+ years) and be penalized with paying off the rest of the contract and an early termination fee as well if you want to leave before the contract is up no matter if you have paid for the system in full. Stay away from this company; all they want is money, money, money and total control of their customers. When my contract is done, it is more than likely "see you later Guardian" unless they wish to give me the rest of the system (the installer and dealer codes) I have paid completely in full for.

I would never recommend Guardian Protection. I signed a five year contract to help out the person we bought our house from. He was selling his house due to his wife's tragic death. Three years later I moved and transfer the remaining two years on my contract to my new address. I told Guardian that I did not want to renew or add on to the original contract. I was told this would be a relocation only and had it put into the contract that the term of my contract was the initial five years and no longer.
My five years are over and when I tried to cancel my service I was told I would have to pay $1336.60 early out fee and when I explained that I had fulfilled my contract they told me that I still had five years on my contract from the time I moved. I again told them to cancel my service and was told they would not cancel my service until I pay the $1336.60. This company has terrible customer service and is a ripoff.

After reading the previous reviews from others, what happened to me totally makes sense... pretty much everyone complains about their deceiving ways of making you believe it's only a 2 year contract when in reality is 5. I have tried to talk them into sense since their sales rep totally lied. I told him that this was a rental and that I had no way to guarantee I was going to be there for 2 years (ended up moving a year and 9 months afterwards) but he said "don't you worry, we'll work with you if it comes to cancel service..." NOTHING BUT LIES!!!
The options they're giving me are a joke (new tenant to take over, they don't want to/take service with you to new place, landlord won't allow it/transfer remaining time on the contract to existing Guardian customer, don't know any). I will file as many complaints as I can against this company. There is got to be a way someone puts an end to this madness!!! Unscrupulous businesses like Guardian need to stop ripping people off!

I was with them for 3 years. During this time I never had any real or false burglary alarms, but had few malfunctioning sensors, and few water detections, and their monitoring and fast response calls definitely worked well every time. That is why this review has more than 1 star. Recently I had some house reconstruction, which resulted in additional windows, and basically I have to modify all zones and their names. This is not a complicated task, yet it seems the dealer or installer code I used in the past no longer works, or maybe I misplaced it. I contacted Guardian and they refused to provide those to me.
First they were explaining their policy does not allow it. Then when I spoke to another person a day later, I was told they don't have those codes, but they can send a technician. Explaining to them that I don't want anyone coming in so I'd have to stand over them and dictate how I want everything recoded, seemed like talking to a dead wall. Also, if a tech has to recode it, he has to have the installer code to get into the system. They told me that yes, the tech will have the code, but they don't have it.
Clearly, they're treating their customers not as individuals, but as masses of irresponsible stupid kids. News flash Guardian: This is MY security system, I OWN it and am free to modify it anyway I want it. Your work is technical support WHEN I need it, and monitoring it, for which I was paying you a lot of money. Needless to say, I easily found another service provider with much more suitable policies and a lesser price.

My first experience with this company was back in 2007 was absolutely Great! All employees had seniority in the company and knew their stuff and were a pleasure to work with. We recently purchased a new home through an affiliated builder and the company had changed so much. So we looked into it a little further because we were honestly shocked as to why such an accredited company had taken a turn for the worse so quickly.
This is what we found, turns out their turnover rate is a year to year and a half (this explain why the rep did not know many answers and was clearly not that familiar with the company). We found out from a very creditable source the company had taken all benefits away from their reps and made a pay scale extremely unbeneficial to the rep (instead of moving up in the company their employees move down).
I'm saying all that to say this. Maybe the company needs to take a step back and revisit their business plan and how they are running this company. NO company can ever grow or become more accredited with a turnover rate this high nor can you treat your employees like they are another number. How you treat your employees is how they will perform and this has really shown in this company. So sad to see once a great company go down the drain. Matter of time and they will get bought out or close up shop!

Like many other opinions on this site, their customer service department are rude, bullies, aggressive, lie and have zero regard for their "customers". We originally signed a contract in Pittsburgh to have an alarm system and intercom system installed. The lazy and arrogant sales person never returned calls to have the intercom and alarm installed WHILE the home was being restored. Easily done while the home was in framing. He didn't call us back until months after the house was done and complained about how hard and expensive (for us!!!!) it would be to now install with the drywall done. Finally had it done, after reaming out his boss about his incompetence and lack of follow up. We had the phone bills to back us up.
The system never worked. Constantly went on for no reason. Calling customer service was always a screaming match by their low brow minimum wage staff. Like other people here, trying to get out of a contract due to relocation was met with threats of lawsuits, court and garnishment of wages???!!! DO NOT EVER engage Guardian Protection anywhere in the Country. Sure there are probably great employees for this company throughout the US. But they don't deserve the courtesy and trust given to them to protect your home. This is one company that really deserves to be driven out of business.

In June of 2011, Guardian was working the neighborhood. I explained to the salesman that I was not interested in signing a long-term contract due to the fact that I was planning to retire in a few years and would be moving to another state. He told me that when I move, Guardian would work with me and that my contract would be terminated. I recently sold my house and the new owners do not want to take over the contract as they heard negative things about Guardian. I called Guardian and explained the situation and asked that my contract be terminated.
The customer service person told me that I had 19 months yet on my contract and cannot be terminated. I have to continue paying even though I do not have the service. They refuse to work with their customers and all I get from them is "Too bad, you signed a 5 year contract". They have such poor customer service. Before I signed this contract, I had service with ADT and they worked with me to terminate my contract. Guardian refuses to work with me. I can't continue paying $41.99 every month for service I do not have. I do not recommend Guardian to anyone.

This is in spite of the fact that we had complained to them previously that their monitoring service was ineffective. My husband and I BOTH were refused service because we can't recall the password that we set up FOUR years ago. I even called them with my account number and that was not good enough. How is confirming my name, address, AND account number not good enough in a case where someone may be potentially robbing our home? We were told they could mail us the password, HA! Because that really helps us TODAY if somebody broke in. So I certainly hope this is another false alarm, and if it is we will certainly be cancelling our services. I requested from numerous agents to have them replace them to be told that techs don't have the type of batteries needed and they have to contact corporate co. to see what to do about it. Then all the zones are messing up with no alarm. That's just the tip of the iceberg. Lots of problems. Never had any problems with ADT so I'm so sorry I left them. I want out of this. Sometime in September 2013, installers contracted by Guardian Protection Services were going door to door selling home alarm systems and they gave me a sales pitch. I am a 62 yr old male ready to retire early next year God willing. I told them that I was not that interested since I was retiring soon and that I would be selling the house. They made me an offer that was hard to refuse and I fell for it. I was informed that I was entering into a 2 year contract (for California only) and that I would be getting an excellent product and service that the market could offer. Six months after, the alarm that they installed started to beep loudly in the middle of the night and every two hours thereafter. I would get up from bed at least 3 times each night to reset the thing and to respond to recorded messages over the phone informing me that my system was indicating a low battery alert.
The very first day (a Tuesday) I was able to talk to a representative who informed me that they would schedule a technician to check it out and they would be able to shut down the alerts remotely and I would stop getting the calls. To accommodate my schedule and theirs as well, the servicing was schedule 5 to 6 days later. I did not arm the system from this point on. This resulted in more sleepless nights and more complaint calls, receiving the same assurances from them, since the beeping continued and so did the recorded messages telling me of a low battery. I finally got a hold of a real person on the phone and asked them to terminate the service because I had enough. I did not want to continue with a company that had a poor service record.
The lady who I spoke with informed me that I had a 5 year contract and I would have to pay $39.95 for the five years or pay in full to terminate the services or I could pass it over to the person who buys my house. I went back and read the service contract again and there it was 5 yrs in small print (written in a small blank space in between words). This was such a big blow but then I accepted my mistake trusting the representatives of a company that is supposed to provide protection and peace of mind. They knew I was moving in 2 yrs or less so they did not point this out to me. Anyway I was going to swallow it and deal with it when I sell the house which will be in 4 months. They changed a part in the unit and offset the service charges after a long not so friendly argument over the phone. I thought that would be the end of it.
In August 2014, I experienced the same thing all over again and this has been a nightmare since. More sleepless nights until they finally after a week the person who I was talking with over the phone gave me instructions on how to stop the beeping sound from the system permanently. I have not armed the alarm months prior to August 2014 but they continue to deduct the monthly fees directly from my bank account. I have tried to negotiate a reasonable penalty for early termination; however, the persons (several of them already) do not want to negotiate a just and amicable settlement. I feel that they failed to verbally disclose in full the terms and conditions of the contract, that I am victim of misrepresentation and most of all they did not deliver the quality of service that I was promised. I have read complaints filed against this company with the Consumer Affairs and other web sites and I was angry to learn of the number of persons who have had the same exact experience as me. I hope that you can be of assistance in this matter. Thank you.

I've been a Guardian customer for several years. Aside from not having very good hours to send someone out for a service repair in the home, it's been an ok experience, until lately. I've tried 3 times to cancel my services it's been ridiculous. The first time I called, "no one was available to help" me TO CANCEL MY SERVICES and they were going to call me back within 24 hours.... didn't work.. The second time, the rep confirmed my services were cancelled. Four days later, I get a phone call about a check on my system and a charge on my charge card. I call for a third time to ask why I'm getting calls and being charged if my services are cancelled, and the rep gets smart with me. After demanding to speak to someone other than her.... anyone other than her (the janitor would have done a better job at helping me), she transfers me to someone else.
Now I'm actually sitting here HOPING that my services are cancelled. That is a joke. This is my first and last time I will ever use Guardian. You guys seriously need to work on your customer service. I work long hours some weeks. The last time I called you to have a service at my house because your system wasn't working right, I was told that you would not come out and fix the system unless it was mon-fri between 8 am-6 pm. Seriously?? That's convenient considering it's the hours of the day that most of YOUR CUSTOMERS FREAKING WORK! What kind of service is that? So I was billed for several months while my system wasn't even working entirely because you couldn't send someone out on my time. If you have any kind of integrity, you'll let this post and you'll figure out a way to solve these problems for the next guy that comes along. Goodbye (I'm hoping...we'll see).

Every single time he talks to anyone, whether it is on the phone, or in person, he always states the term called ‘Reasonable Accommodation’ which in the US government is known as Title 111 of the ADA, which is a federal law called the Americans with Disabilities ACT. The DOJ (Department of Justice) is responsible for any Title 111 violation. No matter how minor or severe any company who violates a person’s civil rights while disabled is subjected to either sanctions or criminal penalties by the DOJ. You would not believe the amount of people he comes in contact with, that either think he is trash or unintelligent when he tells people what his US Social Security Federal Disability is, when he has outbursts intermittently on real or perceived provocation. Those very same people violate his civil rights when they state that they do not have to put up with his language as that is his disability.
Now that brings me to the people at Angie’s list, most likely you have not heard of such a thing. So check it out, as I am copying this review. If it does not get posted that Guardian Protection Services violated my husband’s civil rights, at least with ten calls and with the letter he sent Guardian with his Reasonable Accommodation statement, which by law he must say to everyone, before he can continue talking and legally, (there is only a few ways that anyone can respond back to that statement which has to be legally something to this effect "What is your reasonable Accommodation?), then I have other avenues where I can post this very same review. There is zero tolerance for disability discrimination when it concerns my husband.

I also re-asked the question many times to make sure that I completely understood him and he continued to say that my contract was up and said that I needed to renew it to benefit from other promotions.
I called in because I wanted to switch providers. After verifying that my contract was over, I had another company come in to install a new system. After they installed the new system, I called Guardian to cancel my services. It's then I found out that I was misled by Guardians rep. They told me that I was still in contract and that it didn't matter what the other rep had told me because the agreement over ruled the verbal conversation previously with the rep who stated to me that my contract at Guardian was up. So, after spending 4 hours with the new providers, I had to have them remove the new system. In my opinion, the Guardian rep was either trying to trick me into extending current agreement or either he was not fully capable of the position he was hired for, which I find to be highly unlikely. I just wrote a review about Guardian service and the problems my wife and I have endured over the last two years. I am writing another about theft. I did not want to include this is my original complaint because that was about their service and the harassment that we had to live with. This is a separate matter. My wife normally pays all the bills every month. She paid Guardian their $48.10 for the month. I will also say it is a payment for nothing since we cannot use our system. She was doing a monthly check of our bank accounts and noticed that two payments were made to Guardian for that month.
I immediately called my bank and asked why they deducted two payments when I authorized one. Their response was that they did not do this and did not make a mistake. They said they will have to do a three-way conversation with them to clear this matter up. They called Guardian and asked why the two payments. Guardian's answer was since it will be December in a couple of weeks, they just took the other payment out of our account a little sooner because of the holidays. I have never signed up for auto pay and this was a one-time payment. My wife told them that this was not an authorized payment. She paid one payment and that was it. The bank officer said that he would have to put a stop payment on this account and I would have to pay them via a check since they had retrieved all of my personal information and stole the funds out of my bank account. I think this would be called theft?
How can a company steal your information and take funds out of your bank account without permission? I have always paid my bills online since the start of this service. I have never had one problem like this. I was appalled at the idea that this man could think he had the right into my personal funds and take out what he wanted? How is this called a business? What type of business steals your money? You are trusting that they will not steal your personal information and yet they have? I cannot say how all of these problems have left us. And to think there is no way to eradicate them from our lives!
To date, we have not received a refund from them for the second payment. I just want to say that we do not know these people and have no grievances with these people. Why are they doing this? I would really like an explanation. I have paid $48.10 a month for over 2 years now for a system that I cannot use and a system that is slowly draining the life out of us!

We signed with Guardian when we were building our dream home. We were told it was a 2-year contract that turned into 5! From the first time we moved into our home until now (2.2 years) the alarm system has failed to operate properly. We thought we were getting peace of mind instead we have been harassed from the time our warranty was up! At first, the two windows in the master bedroom would trigger the beeps. I called since it was under warranty and they came out. A service tech looked at the system on the wall, walked into the master bedroom, looked at the windows and said there was nothing wrong! This went on until the warranty was up.
Then I got the old "I'll send someone out there but it will be $100.00 trip charge plus". I said no thank you. I called back repeatedly and finally got someone (woman) who had a little more knowledge in the field to help me stop the beeps and let me know what the problem was. She said the batteries in the two windows were bad and needed to be replaced. No problem, since I'm handy around the house. I replaced three batteries in the master bedroom. Got an all clear on the panel and thought everything was fine, NOT. A couple days after the replacement of the batteries, the chimes started in again. Okay, I could live with it, I thought!
I called and told them my problem and asked why the board is still chiming. Of course, they said the same thing! I asked Ryland Homes about my dilemma since they were the builders. They checked on this and stated that the batteries should last around 4 years. After less than two years and I'm replacing batteries??? I called and complained about this and the chimes being an issue. I was told they could shut down the chime until I get the matter resolved. Before I could find what the problem was, the chimes were back! I called and was told by the owner that they could not be shut off or muted!!!! My wife and I have listened to these chimes morning, evening, and in the very early morning hours. NONSTOP. Their only solution to stop the noise was to have someone come out and take a look at the system, starting at $100.00 trip charge, etc. They did not want to hear anything else. Only wanted money.
My wife works at night and goes to bed around 6/6:30 am. This chime will go off at 8am. Always waking her up and she has not had a decent night's sleep in over a year! Made her a nervous wreck and to top it off, our cat of 13 years was diagnosed with stomach cancer and given about 10-15 days to live. We called and begged them to stop the chimes at least for his sake. They did for two days and right back into those chimes! He can no longer sleep in the comfort of the dining room because the chimes are right there. I have called and complained numerous times about this. Now the chimes are going at: 8am, 6pm, between 8/9pm and little beeps and whatnot throughout the day!
I cannot tell you how this has affected our lives! We are slaves to this system. The alarm will do all kinds of noises throughout the day. It never ends! We sacrificed a lot for this home and now we feel like it has defeated us. Our dream home has turned into a nightmare! My wife is sick and has not gotten more than a couple hours' sleep since the chimes started. Thanks to her, I can sleep through the night because she will shut the chimes down if they start in the middle of the night. I have a very demanding job and had a major heart attack 3 years ago. I don't think I could handle not getting any sleep. We feel like this company just wants our money and nothing else and will do anything and everything possible to get it. I don't know much about alarms but I would think there would be a way to shut this down until we can resolve the problem?
How much more can we take? We are being driven out of our dream home because of Guardian! If anyone has any ideas on how to stop this, please let me know. Desperate in Florida and being driven out of our dream home! I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT NO ONE GET A GUARDIAN ALARM SYSTEM. THEY ONLY WANT YOUR MONEY. I pay $48.10 a month for a service I cannot use.
