I've always enjoyed GE products for a number of reasons. They are dependable and with care will last many, many years. My refrigerator lasted just over 20 years! My microwave is easy to clean and has never let me down over the years I've had it. GE products just last longer than other brands.

This GE Model JNM1541 is a 1500 watt, under counter microwave with quite a few features. It has plenty of cooking power and has not failed in its nearly 5 years of use. I have never used the included metal shelf.

Very heavy to mount above a stove, not enough watts. The model I have is 900 watts, too many options for cooking different foods, not many parts are available to make a repair on any of the GE microwaves, I would not recommend purchasing a GE.

We have an under the cabinet microwave oven. I like the size of it and it works well. It is white so it gets dirty from cooking on the stove. It has a light on it for 2 different lighting needs. It has a brighter one and one for night time also. The buttons are really easy to use. Not hard to program it at all.

It works well, heats up well but makes a lot more noise compared to some others I have used. If it were quieter it would be best. Also to adjust clock and date even when I don’t need it is cumbersome, making me lose time when I am in hurry. I should be able to use it without setting clock and date if I don’t want to.

Our microwave is a staple in our home. We use it several time a day, from warming coffee in the morning to popcorn morning snack or bottle warming. The timer is great so is the popcorn button. Easy to clean daily from melted butter or spills made by not using the correct time setting.

Microwave (over the stove model) is also supposed to be conventional oven, but does not do that well. Just use as microwave. As microwave, easy to use. Now 14 years old and still going strong, although a little dated in appearance. Grill cover looks like chrome, but made of plastic, and when I tried to remove it recently to change the filter, it broke and now has to be replaced. $180, but still cheaper than a new appliance. Wish we could get away from using plastic parts.

It's a over the range model & came with a house purchase. It’s worked flawlessly for over 5 years now - even after being left with no air conditioning in FL for months on end. The only thing I could think to make it better is making it easier to choose longer length cook times. Button for half min & dial for all the rest can be irritating for your 16 min food.

I like the look of the oven but it took 3 shots to get it right. I had some bad luck with 2 out of 3. It seems the first 2 were damaged. I know many people would have given up but I owned one before this one and the only reason I gave it up was remodeling. The oven worked fine after 5 years. I guess I gambled on past performance and it still paid off. But I am really not sure about the door sometimes because it is a big door and it can seem tinnee and cheap at times. The overall performance is good and the looks are what I was looking for.

I moved into our house about 27 years ago, and have had to replace every single appliance except the microwave. The oven, fridge, washer, dryer, dishwasher—all replaced at least one time over. But this 90s GE microwave keeps humming along. I really should replace it just because it is this awful off-white color and everything else in our kitchen is part of a beautiful stainless steel/black/white scheme, but it is actually built right into a cabinet and I fear I will not be able to get another microwave in there. The only gripe I have about its performance is the fan comes on and roars full-blast anytime the stove or oven is on. It is so loud it's difficult to talk over.

The jvm3160 series has a known defect in the door interlock electrical system that blows the unit fuse if the door is opened while the mw oven is operating. This usually occurs after the warranty expires. Cost to repair can exceed the original cost of the unit. Mine failed in warranty but it took them 10 weeks to fix it. The reason it took so long is that GEs repair protocol calls replacing the whole door (which has NO electrical parts in it) instead of replacing just the latch assembly because the labor cost to replace the latch itself exceeds the cost of a complete door assembly. Door assemblies were on back-order because of the high failure rate.

We have called GE several times only to get extremely rude and dismissive customer service reps (“Audrey” if that was even her real name). They refuse to replace a brand new unit that never worked and insist on trying to repair it, but we are also being told that this will take several trips as the technician will only first come to inspect it then a second trip will be needed to bring out the necessary parts (they don’t carry them in the truck because they are “fragile”). It does not conform to Repair Guy’s published schematics. Repair Tech could not upload new data to it. Repair guy did order three new parts including a main board. GE told Repair Guy that mainboard delivery ETA UNKNOWN. After three hours here repair tech left and told me to call GE customer care. Believe it or not, two hours on telephone with GE. First you need to talk to a customer service rep that cannot help you. They then determine you need a Customer Advocate. Then they need to input data on your file for the Customer Advocate.
Then they need to transfer you to that department. Then you have to get a case number assigned. Then you give someone all the serial numbers and model numbers again. Then the Customer Advocate (CA) takes the call. The CA does not speak English as you and I speak English. After the CA puts me on hold to verify the purchase, then the appointment, then the tech and then the order they actually speak to me. In my case, the mainboard part is not available on CA’s computer. The CA has to electronically contact the parts department to find out if the part is in this universe. If the part can be delivered to my Repair Guy in Jackson, GA within 14 BUSINESS days from the date of the inquiry I have to take the part and wait for repair.
In the event the part cannot be delivered in 14 days CA will start a process to get me a new microwave. The parts department has up to 48 hours to respond to the CA. When asked what happens if no response occurs in 48 hours, I was told, That never happens. It is the Christmas Holiday and I anticipated guests. My husband is disabled and his meals are pre-made frozen so I will have to decompose them and heat them on the cooktop. GE could care less about those issues. So after waiting five days for repair I have no working microwave. Someone told me not to replace my GE with a GE, but I did not listen. It is December, holidays, no microwave is an aggravation that I thought paying for a GE product would alleviate. So, on January 2nd I might get an answer. It would intermittently freeze mid cycle, with the timer still going and the inside light flashing off and on. I contacted the company through their website email to complain about this strange malfunction in this practically new microwave. It took three days to receive a reply. Apparently I had used the wrong model number and it took THAT LONG for GE to figure it out.
After providing Teresa, the case manager, supposedly helping me, with the correct model no., it took another three days for Teresa the case manager to reply. This time, instead of offering me repair options, she immediately tried to get me to buy another GE microwave and offered me a $75 rebate to use towards one. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? My microwave is barely 1 1/2 years old and SHOULD NOT have these operating issues.
I replied to Teresa with my keen dissatisfaction of how GE was handling my case and I NEVER heard back from her. Until 8 days later, a Shelly followed up to see if Teresa helped me. I immediately replied to Shelly and gave her an update on my dilemma and that I NEVER received a reply from Teresa. I NEVER heard back from Shelly again.

If you try to set the kitchen timer when the microwave is running, the cook-time changes and overcooks what's in the microwave. If you try to set the microwave to cook while the timer is timing a food cooking on the range, it simply refuses to work.
The instructions are very hard to both find and then understand, having been written in China to cover many different models. Apparently I can ask my phone to turn it on.
