I notice when cleaning the inside of the microwave that the coating on the top (ceiling) of the microwave has bubbled and cracked and there is a hole in the interior top coating. This unit is about 9 years old, and is a dual unit as the bottom is a convection oven with very little use. I'm told I need to replace the microwave. I have never seen bubbled and cracked interior in many years of owning and using this type of appliance. The photo shows the defects in the lining coating. I'm really upset about this.

Model WES1130 GE Microwave - The entire interior of the microwave just started peeling off the coating/finish around 3 years after purchase. The turntable wheel guide path totally disintegrated the finish of the path. It still worked but was so unsightly and disgusting to look into the interior and possibly dangerous to eat anything that had been put inside to cook. I just got rid of it. I purchased another GE Model JES1460DSBB and it started malfunctioning after 3 weeks. I returned it and will not buy another GE product.

Sometime in the 1970s, my mother bought all new GE appliances; a refrigerator, a kitchen range-microwave combo and a dishwasher. After her death my husband and I moved into her house and continued to use these appliances until 2007. The refrigerator and dishwasher are still going strong as of now... October 2014. The refrigerator only needed the drainage line cleaned. The range began to have some electrical shortage problems and rather than try to repair (which is what we should have done with both appliances), we decided to replace the refrigerator and range/microwave.
We bought new GE appliances; a GE refrigerator (my brother put the old one in his shop), GE microwave and GE range. The new refrigerator's icemaker would not work property when we got it and the microwave (Model #JVM2070SK02) quit early this year (big difference in the old microwave at 30 some years use and my new one at only 7 years use). Because my husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor and I was the only caretaker, I was not able to address the malfunctioning icemaker immediately. In fact, because of my husband's hospitalization, I wasn't even at home during that year enough to use the icemaker.
WOW! What a ripoff GE is selling to consumers. My complaints won't solve my problems nor the problems experienced by other people who bought these defective appliances but it helps to vent my anger. Just recently a small leak in the waste-water drain hose (easy to replace) sent me scurrying to find a new dishwasher but when considering the replacement of my 1970s dishwasher and the reliability of my newer appliances, I decided that my 1970s dishwasher will outlast anything I could replace it with. So I decided to replace the waste-water drain hose myself.
What a sad appliance market we have in the US when buyers have to replace newly purchased appliances anywhere from a few days to a few short years after purchase. I think appliance companies intentionally produce inferior, unfixable products so consumers will replace their inferior ones with new inferior models thus keeping up sales. Do we have a choice? I lived before dishwashers and microwaves and I can live without either now. I would prefer not to go back to wood cook-stove and an icebox but I may not have a choice (I actually have an icebox if needed).
Is there any way to hold companies responsible for the products they produce? If anyone out there has had longevity of 10 years or more use from a newer appliance line, that is appliances made since 2000... Please share the producer's name with rest of us. GE isn't what it used to be and neither are many other US brand name appliances.

We built our house and purchased a "NEW" close out Advantium Microwave. Due to delays we were not able to get into the house and use the appliance until literally 1 month after the WTY expired. The KEYPAD is shorted. There are a number of these complaints for this microwave - so we arranged for service. $375 dollars later - it was ALMOST working and the repair service determined that a new keyboard would be needed. 5 mos later we are kindly asked to take a refund of our repair bill and forget the whole thing - the part is not available! REALLY?! $2000 for a microwave, and you don't even support it?! Last - LAST time I put trust in GE. SCB2000FBB 03

We have a GE Profile Microwave (PNM1871SM3SS) that is only 3 years old and is reporting "KEYPAD SHORTED - SERVICE MAY BE REQUIRED". We called GE service repair and told them the exact message. The service guy shows up and says all he has in his order is "General other service needed" and that he doesn't have the keypad panel. Gives us an estimate of $501 to repair it. Tells us a new one costs $400 and with a coupon he can give us it will be $100 less. We were charged $99 for this visit which basically lasted 10 minutes (way to go GE on making money off faulty devices you sell). The service-person also told us that the average life was 10 years for these, but this one crapped out in 3. He said if we get another GE microwave, it will fit right in there and that I can do it myself if I am handy but after reading all the reviews online, I am skeptical whether I should get a GE microwave again or not!

I purchased a GE Microwave oven, model #JVM1540DP1BB and, in seven months, the interior paint started peeling. I contacted the company and they said, "go ahead and use it. It won't hurt anything." (Well, actually, it doesn't heat as well now.) They offered me a discount on another GE Microwave. I advised them that the oven was manufactured three months prior to my purchase and so the Microwave was only ten months from birth to "death" - it was also made in Malaysia and so was purchased practically straight off the boat - and should have been covered under warranty. The response to that was, "I'm sorry. I'm only authorized..." "Fine. Let me talk to your boss," I said.
I was connected to another company mouthpiece who promised to send a serviceman out to look at it. The next week, said serviceman did come to the house. He told me they could take it in and "...see if they could fix it" or they could give me a discount on another one. Again I iterated that the microwave should be replaced at no cost. He flat out told me, "They won't do that."
My next fiasco with this danger trap was several months later when it started turning on of its own accord. So, we had to keep the oven unplugged at all times unless actively in use. I again contacted GE and was again advised that they would "be happy to offer me a discount on another..." blah, blah, blah. After a couple of years of using this machine, I called GE one last time. I spoke to the regional vice-president, Gary **. The response this time was truly mind-boggling. They had no record of my having called previously!!! But, after telling them I felt their product was inherently defective by design and, not only would I never purchase another GE product EVER, I have emptied my house of any and all GE products right down to the light bulbs, have purged my mother's house, and advise everyone I know of my experience, recommending they, too, do not patronize GE.
He began repeatedly screaming at me, "What do you want me to do?" I told him that, two or three years previous, I wanted them to replace a defective microwave. Now, and following their abhorrent customer service, I wouldn't want anything from them and, if they were to tell me the sky was blue and water was wet, I would not believe them. I was not inclined to pay six hundred dollars yearly for a new microwave oven, so there was nothing they had I would ever want. I then pointed out that I purchased a Sony microwave for my mother when my grandson was six years old. He's twenty-four now and both the id and the oven are still going strong. Then HE hung up on ME! I have noticed others here who have had similar experience with GE Microwaves so my recommendation to anyone considering a new microwave oven is to steer clear of GE at all costs. I only gave them a one star rating because I couldn't give them a negative star rating.

I purchased a GE monogram microwave along with all the other brand new appliances when I remodeled my kitchen. Let me be clear when I say I will never buy another GE product again in my life. Not only is the product inferior but the customer service department is run by a group of very inept people that lack basic communication skills. The microwave I purchased needed two repairs within the first five years of purchase. I have a microwave in my office at work that I purchased over 10 years ago and I've never had an issue with it. Needless to say, it isn't a GE product.
Last April the microwave started acting up again and kept turning itself off. We didn't even bother calling GE because like everything else their repairmen are also incompetent. 1-800-Appliance came out and found that the "magnetron" needed to be replaced and we should just purchase a new appliance. Because our microwave had been installed in a custom made cabinet and the trim kit was still good, we made the mistake of purchasing the same exact microwave from GE for convenience. This was in April of 2014. Right now I am waiting for a GE repairman to come and take a look at it because it is already not working. This is after I spent an hour on the phone with consumer relations. I will never purchase a GE product again.

I have all GE appliances in my kitchen and have to say that I'll never buy GE again. Electric stove is a problem, dishwasher a problem. Refrigerator was a problem (when it was new! it was fixed and thankfully is still running well).

You remember the so called TOO BIG TO FAIL? It means, they can do whatever they want at whatever time or day they want. I don't have a vent in my house and that means I can't use the stove. Is this ridiculous or I am missing something here? Is it TOO BIG TO FAIL? Yes, I forgot that.
I will be staying in a house with a new GE APPLIANCE that has not been working for the last one week and have to wait for another week. Mind you, this Appliance has been used only for barely a month. Is there anybody out there who is facing the same problem or it's just me. If there is nobody going through the same experience, an excuse like there are no Technicians available to come to your place and do the job.
If there is anybody out there who has trust in GE appliances like I did or even thinking of getting one. Be aware that you will be through what I am going through and there will be no technician available for another two weeks. Be ready to wait for they will reschedule your appointment without letting you know, why? Because they're TOO BIG TO FAIL. What will you do? We bought this microwave (GE DE68-00307A) brand new 2 years ago and the paint is peeling off everywhere!!!! I keep my microwaves extremely clean, and this was not due to wear and tear by any means. I would say it started after about a year and a half of having it. I have showed multiple people and I cannot believe this is not on a recall list. The GE microwave oven that was installed by the owners of my 130-something unit apartment complex caught fire in June 2014. The manufacture date is listed as December 2012. I moved into the unit in June 2013 and the microwave was brand new still and had never been used by anyone else. I myself rarely use the microwave and only use it for heating up cold food that I previously cooked on the stove top. After heating up rice using the 2 minute express option and removing the food from the microwave, I had gone to the restroom for 30 seconds only to return and find the microwave on fire. The fire ignited from the ceiling of the microwave.
I had initially intended on going to the bathroom to take a shower but needed to open a new bar of soap, so I had only returned to the kitchen to throw the soap packaging in the trash. Had I not done the latter, my entire apartment could have caught fire and it would have been difficult if not impossible for me to escape from my third floor apartment.
Reading all of these complaints it is really hard to believe that a government agency has not stepped in and forced GE to STOP MAKING MICROWAVES! From the complaints on this board it is clear to see that every year GE continues to make appliances that put consumers' safety and lives at risk. You would think that after so many recalls that they would have perfected their product by now, but that is not the case. It almost seems as though they are just slapping new model and serial numbers on the same BAD product.
The management in my building contacted GE and my microwave was replaced with another GE microwave manufactured in 2014. I did not want another GE microwave, but I only rent so I didn't have a choice. I used the microwave once so far and the fan automatically came on after 2 minutes of use. It does state inside the microwave that the fan may come on automatically, but I just don't trust this brand anymore. I have a countertop microwave that works perfectly fine that I've owned for over 15 years that I will be using. I will unplug the GE microwave and just keep it for aesthetic purposes, since that's all it's good for.

I had just placed a microwave safe glass dish inside. I removed that and tested again with nothing inside. Same thing happened. I next thoroughly cleaned the unit. Tried again. Same thing happened. 6/11/2014. My microwave of 5 years the GE Adora starting to act strange. It would start to hum and the panel light would light up. The humming would only stop if I opened the door. The microwave glass turntable had exploded from intense heat inside the microwave. It was bizarre. Immediately I ran over and unplugged the microwave hood.

Our GE Microwave Oven/Convection Oven Combo (Model: PT970SRSS) is a little over 2 years old. The interior paint on the ceiling of the microwave oven is chipping and bare metal is exposed. In addition, the microwave's glass turntable frequently slips off its plastic tripod base. Circular scratch marks, which also expose the underlying metal are evident in the area which is located directly below the glass turntable. The circular scratches are a direct result of the glass turntable scraping against the paint.
The GE repairman said chipped paint is not repairable and that paint should not ever chip in a microwave, let alone a relatively new microwave. After many calls back and forth to the GE Consumer Relations person, we were offered a new combo at a "discounted" rate of approximately $1,000. (We paid around $2,000 originally.) I'm not satisfied with this offer. I strongly feel that consumers should NOT have to pay to replace a defective item. GE needs to pull these defective and dangerous products off the market! GE told me they would do nothing to help me fix the problem and I need to stop using it because it is a safety hazard. I purchased a GE microwave, model LVM1750DPWW, in 2012. It was delivered approximately 12/6/2012 and was installed in July 2013 after our kitchen remodel was complete. In March 2014, my daughter was warming something on the rack when the back upper rear hook started sparking and caught fire. I am thankful the only damage was to the microwave and to the smell in the house for a few days. When I called Lowe's and GE, they act like they've never heard of this issue. Yet, I see many other complaints of the hooks catching fire. Just to be sure, I turned on the microwave again. The hook started sparking immediately.
GE sent a repairman to the house who told me that GE ought to let people know not to leave the racks in the oven. Since she was cooking on the rack, it would be difficult not to have the rack in the oven. He said the oven was a safety concern, could not be repaired and that GE would bring out a new microwave and install it for me. Great! I was pleased - yet concerned. A couple days later, I received an email from GE customer service saying that we had put the rack in the oven incorrectly. There is NO way to have put it in incorrectly. Besides that, he couldn't have seen if this was true since the hook was burnt and melted. I am pretty angry.

This GE CVM2072SM1SS Microwave (over-range model) worked fine for five years. Then, we discovered the plastic film over the touchscreen starting to peel. After a bit of wrangling with Consumer Relations, they sent me a replacement touchscreen. The LCD didn't display properly, so they sent me another one. It worked for three months, then in the middle of programming to reheat some food, we got the following error message: Control Fault, Shorted touchscreen - F10. The control has detected a shorted touchscreen and has shut off the oven. It may still be possible to use the oven. However, if this message continues to appear, your oven will require service.
The only way to clear the message was to unplug the unit. No amount of replugging in cleared the message. I called GE and they said they would replace the entire unit with a new model under some program they had. Sounded fine to me. I left the house. When I returned, I received a message that their representative called back to say they would not replace the unit, since the program had expired. Huh? I called again, and after a bunch more wrangling, they agreed to send a service tech out and replace whatever needed replacing or fixing at no charge. Of course, they never really made a notation of that, so when he got here, he had to get on the phone and sort it out. Finally, he replaced the touchscreen. Let's see how long it lasts this time.

I was very impressed by the look of the GE over-the-range microwave oven but my impressed state faded not too long after I began using the oven. My typical usage ranges from heating something for 20 seconds to soups for three to four minutes. Within the first month of purchase, the paint on the floor of the oven was peeling off, exposing the metal color. I was only wiping/drying out the oven with a soft cloth, never using an abrasive product or cloth, so the peeling paint was only due to moisture. I have now owned the oven for just over 14 months and not only is the floor nearly completely devoid of the white painted surface but I just had a quick fire when thawing frozen onion chips for 10 seconds. My previous, much less expensive microwave lasted nearly 7 years, so it's a shame that a supposedly better model cannot match the longevity of the GE model. Looks aside, I would not recommend a GE microwave oven to anyone looking for a new or replacement microwave.

GE Microwave was making intermittent buzzing noise 1 month after purchase. Called GE & they said they could send a tech out to check it but if they didn't find anything I would be charged a service call. I stated it would only do it once in a while so was concerned it wouldn't do it when tech was here & I would be charged so I passed on the tech. Microwave continued to make noise periodically but seemed to get less as time went on.
1 year & 10 months later it started to sound like it was arcing & shut off. Again it was periodic. Called GE. They sent a tech out & it only shut off but no arcing sound or intermittent starting & stopping. Tech stated it probably was door micro switch, but when GE called me back they said he stated it probably was circuit board. Whatever the cause it is still what I would call arcing & going off & on.GE stated They could give me a discount on a new microwave which amounted to cost of $100.00 more than I paid for it in the first place.

We purchased our new GE Over-the-Range Microwave (model HVM1750DPWW, 1.7 cu. ft.) for $269.00 in February of 2012 and in August of 2013 it started to malfunction. Specifically the microwave would start on its own whenever we would OPEN the door. Now the microwave does not work at all (with the door closed or open). Based on the feedback that I have read in some of the posts on this site, I will replace the microwave since the maker can no longer be trusted to manufacture units that are robust and safe. But what manufacturer can be trusted at this point? It is my understanding that all microwaves (from all major companies) are currently made overseas with poor materials and highly suspect safety and quality standards. We moved into our new manufactured home in May of 2013. That is the month our above range built-in GE microwave was installed. In October of 2013, one of my sons heated a frozen chicken cordon bleu serving for 3 minutes, 45 seconds, according to packaging directions. He said that some of the inside of his food was cool, so my other son put in his serving for four minutes, zero seconds. All of the packaging was removed and each serving was placed on a separate Corelle plate and covered with Glad microwave-safe plastic wrap. While heating the second serving, the microwave started on fire. Fortunately, my son extinguished the fire before it spread. The food did not combust.
The fire seems to have started from the ceiling behind the fan. The entire inside of our microwave is clean except for the soot that billowed out from the center of the ceiling. When the service tech came, he scrubbed the soot off of the ceiling with some paper napkins (which he left inside of the unit) and said that the microwave was a total loss. He also said the fire was caused by misuse, because plastic wrap is not meant to be used in the microwave, therefore even though the fire happened within a year of purchase and installation, our warranty was void. I asked GE to get a second opinion and they agreed to send a third party servicer (A&E) who stood me up three times!
I finally got to schedule a GE tech to come at the end of December and they sent the same guy who said the fire was our fault! He told me that he never said plastic wrap is not meant for the microwave, but that we are being dishonest because fires only start when the food is left in the microwave for too long. He accidentally let it slip that he is seeing the same problem with GE microwaves in a lot of new construction for student housing in Tallahassee. (We live 20 minutes south of there.) He attempted to recover GE's reputation afterward by saying that of course it was the students' faults, too, for misusing the microwave units. Anyway, GE has graciously offered to sell us a new microwave at slight discount. Haha, no thank you!

When the handle on my expensive replacement (GE Profile for GE Profile) microwave/convection oven peeled, we called our retailer (PC Richards is really good about service). A new door showed up and it, too, has a plastic handle. The difference is, this time it's solid grey plastic as opposed to white plastic with silver paint. Seems to me that an expensive SS appliance should have an SS handle. Too heavy? Just use a tube of SS - not solid. Too hot if above burners? Didn't my last GE Profile micro/convection have a SS handle?
I spoke with "customer relations". The person was well trained not to say anything that might suggest she agreed with me. Since the issue is "cosmetic" and not functional, I have to consider the issue dealt with now that the door has been replaced. I told them I will do my best to publicize this issue and that I will never again purchase a GE appliance. I also called CEO Jeff Immelt's office in Connecticut. I made it clear that my dissatisfaction has cost them a long time, loyal customer and that I would spread the word. Less than three years ago, I purchased a microwave oven wall unit to replace an existing unit. Due to the size of the built-in cabinet, I was limited in choices. The cost of the unit was $2400. A few months ago, the interior wall of the unit began rusting and the enamel is peeling. I contacted the customer service dept via e-mail on their site. I was asked to send pictures and then informed that I should stop using the unit immediately due to the danger of arcing. I was also told that because I did not purchase the extended warranty, the best that GE could offer me was a new unit for $800.
I asked for names of warranty companies and was given one name and number but told there were others that also offered the same service. I called this company and they clearly told me that the peeling and chipping was a manufacturer’s defect and would not have been covered by an extended warranty had I purchased one from any company. Then I contacted the GE repair service center and spoke with them. The man who answered explained that this is a cosmetic problem and that there was no danger of the microwave arcing unless there was less food in the microwave than the size of the area that was chipping.
I am very disappointed in the response of GE, the pressure placed on me to make a decision in 7 days or the offer would be withdrawn, and the fact that the service department and the consumer service (complaint) department gave me entirely different responses to the same information and problem. I will probably have my cabinet rebuilt to avoid having to replace this unit with another GE appliance. Who would pay $$1600 for the use of a microwave/oven unit for less than three years? Unfortunately, GE seems to be the only company that makes a unit that fits the existing cabinet in my kitchen. Disappointing to say the least.

GE microwaves are crap. In fact it's not restricted to microwaves. It's their ENTIRE line of appliances. They team up with other grade e or f manufacturers for appliances (ie: LG, Samsung) and ANY GE appliance is almost guaranteed to fail prematurely. I see all these comments bucking Malaysia and in all reality the fact remains that Malaysia makes damn good stuff (think SONY). But it is the COMPANIES that build the products and how much they're getting paid that factors quality. No doubt that GE is using the bottom dweller rejected off the assembly line parts to build their units. Most are Chinese garbage. China also builds some very reliable products but as the saying goes "dumb American will buy anything." They save the best for them and sell us the crap.
It is the lowest grade of those already should have been scrapped at the factory parts that GE passes off as quality and they do a good job at showing it. A cheap 30 dollar China made Emerson microwave made by Daewoo (Korean company that actually is decent) lasts longer and takes a hell of a beating compared to the overpriced rejected junk we call GE. The GE ac units are another classic example of pure garbage. Sadly the older GE works forever. That should sum it up. "Why didn't the GE executives while visiting Thomas Edison's grave make every effort to step away from his grave and not stand upon it? Because Thomas Edison would pull them under."

A service tech is coming out next week to replace the in warranty handle however this cost will be our responsible next year when this happens again. We bought the countertop stainless steel microwave model JES1142SJ the end of 2010. Noticed a rust ring under the revolving paint about a month ago. The paint was chipped off and when I washed it with a dish cloth, more came off. It is getting worse. We didn't stop using it since it seems it is only coming off under the plate but is it safe to continue using? Could it catch fire? Is it putting bad things in the food we heat in it? Even though it is not an expensive microwave ($100-$125) it should not be rusting inside. It should last longer than 3 years!
Sounds like GE will not back up their products since so many microwaves owners are complaining about the paint being inferior and flaking off. There should be a recall for this problem on all microwaves sold by GE. Complaints have been from countertop to the most expensive dual stoves! This is not acceptable and GE needs to step up and deal with the problem with their microwaves that they sell. I usually buy GE; but this is making me have 2nd thoughts and think that my ones I bought in 2010 will be the last purchased from GE.
They did come out twice for my range when the oven stopped working at 2 years and one of the eye knobs to turn on and off needed to be replaced when it would not turn off. My husband and I replaced all the appliances in our new home 4 years ago with GE Profile double oven, cooktop and built in microwave. All the appliances are of poor quality and do not cook the way we are accustomed to. But the microwave has had a particularly bad history. Within one year, it completely quit working and we had to replace several fuses and a board.
Over the past couple of months, the keypad continually quits working and we have to climb up on a stool, unplug the microwave to reset it. Only then will it work for us to heat something. However, the keypad does not accurately reflect the task we are trying to use. I have had many microwaves over the years and I have NEVER had to repair one before. This particular brand of microwave was produced in Malaysia in July 2008. Very, very poor quality. No resolve from GE or from Sears where we bought it. I am done with GE and with SEARS.

I just remodeled my kitchen back in May of 2012. My wife and I started looking for the appliances and we decided to get the GE Cafe series set (dishwasher, cooktop, electric oven and microwave). Our microwave oven, model CVM1790SS1SS, developed a humming noise as soon as you closed the door. It does sound like the magnetron is on. To verify that, I filled a cup with cold water and I put it inside and closed the door without setting any cooking time. After three minutes, the water was too hot to touch. I called GE and told them that it was a fire hazard.
They sent one of their technicians and he determined that it was not a fire hazard and if I wanted it fixed, I have to pay for it. How could he say it's not? If I close the door, the oven is going to continue heating up until it burns itself and everything else around it. I am pissed at GE because this unit is barely one year old and expensive. This is a safety hazard and GE failed to acknowledge. Bottom line, I'll never buy GE again and will not recommend it to anyone.

I purchased a new construction home on which we closed in April 2012. It included the premium GE suite of appliances. The microwave was the JTP90S model that was integrated with the oven beneath it. We actually moved into the home in the middle of June 2012 and started using the appliances. Now roughly a year later, the microwave appears to have overheated and completely failed. The microwave has no lights on at all and is completely non-functional. Considering the price paid for this appliance, I would expect it to be of better quality, durability, and to last much longer than just a year.

GE Spacemaker 2.0 Microwave Oven - We purchased 3 GE Profile appliances when we renovated our kitchen in 2005. I have always thought that GE was a reputable company and thought that we were purchasing quality products. We haven't had any problems with the gas powered stove/oven/range. We have had some problems with the dishwasher but may have nearly solved those problems by watching some troubleshooting tutorials. I am not sure what could solve the problem of this POS microwave.
Let me begin by saying that we decided on this over-the-oven microwave to save precious counter space and this model obviously comes with a ventilation fan. Secondly, there are only two of us in the house (always has been this way) and neither of us use the microwave as a primary cooking source. We joked when we first bought it that the microwave would be a $500 popcorn maker. Occasionally, we defrost bread or meat and sometimes we reheat coffee, melt butter or ice cream, or reheat rice. That is almost the entire extent of our usage.
Not long after we purchased the microwave, the door handle broke. Remember that we have hardly used the thing and this was within the first year we owned it. It was a jagged break near where the handle meets the door. My husband has since glued the handle back together instead of replacing the door. Intermittently for at least the past few years, the microwave shorts out within a few seconds of use. The clock then resets itself to some unusual time. Then the microwave will work fine for awhile before it acts up again.
After reading some of the complaints on this page, we are thankful the microwave hasn't burst into flames yet. We just are not sure of what to do. We don't want to pay someone a lot of money to fix it and we don't want to buy a new one. If we plan farther ahead, we can defrost our bread and meat in the fridge but it would be nice to have a working microwave.

The wall outlet is fine. There were no storms around here when it went out. It just seemed to fry itself! The repair/troubleshooting instructions tell you to get a licensed technician to "check this" and "check that" because of the voltage. They give you a flowchart to troubleshoot it yourself, but no pictures to go with the diagram. Sure I can check the fuses, if I knew where they are!

I moved in to a newly-built home in Nov. 2010. Shortly after, my GE Profile microwave seemingly caught fire. We called for service and were offered a repair free of charge. We declined a repair and did receive a brand new appliance of the same model. Around June 2012, the exact same fire happened to the new one. I must admit that it took me about 9 months to report the problem because my family had been devastated with a lengthy illness and passing of my mother. While going through our trial, I shut down my mother's apartment and just started to use her countertop microwave.
Realizing that I needed to address the problem with my microwave, I called and explained this to GE service. I guess that the representative was just doing her job and stated the year warranty spiel and had no concern of this being my second microwave within a two and a half year span and also the length of time that it had not been working. I was immediately given the cost for a serviceman to come out plus I was told that I would have to pay for any parts. When I went to Home Depot to price the microwave; the cost for my model was $278. I therefore decided. Why bother to have a defected model repaired? Who needs the aggravation? I will just eat my loss and buy another microwave. Be assured that it will not be a GE. I will never again buy a General Electric product.

This makes me not want to try another GE product. The fridge shelves all broke because they were plastic. The washer fell apart shortly after a year. It is just myself and my husband using them, so they should last for years. When you buy large item, you would like them to last a long while.

We purchased a new General Electric (GE) Adora microwave model DVM1850SM4SS from Home Depot for approximately $355.00 in 2010. It was manufactured in Malaysia and had been in use for 2 years and 9 months before the magnetron failed. I spoke with a GE Customer Care representative on two occasions, and she said that the best that GE could do was split the cost of parts and labor since the 1 year warranty had expired. We had not purchased the extended warranty believing at the time that a microwave generally lasts for many years, and GE had always made quality products and would stand behind them.
I indicated that I wanted to have the problem properly diagnosed by the service rep recommended by GE before proceeding further. The 10-minute service call bill set us back approx. $100.00. It would cost at least another $170 to replace the magnetron if we used the service tech contracted by GE. For $270, I believe we could find a fairly nice new microwave. I looked at alternative options for repair or replacement, since I am rather partial to the looks of the over the range stainless steel Adora. The model we have is no longer manufactured, but GE now offers the 1.9 cu. ft. Adora that Home Depot sells for around $400.00.
In my internet research, I noted several postings that indicated that due to the high voltage danger of the magnetron, only trained technicians should attempt repairs. After half a dozen calls, I fortunately learned of a Microwave Service Center close to our residence that could replace the magnetron. After taking it down from above the range, hauling it in for repair and paying the approx. $104.00 bill and hauling it back to our residence to mount on the wall, we have a microwave that should work for a while! Total cost including service call for diagnosis - $204.00. Considering that GE does not wish to stand behind the quality of their products, I would not be likely to purchase a GE product again.

I purchased a GE microwave from PC Richard and Son in 2011. The microwave is mounted above the oven. On March 13, 2013, the microwave (model JVM1750DP1WW) sparked a fire inside while my daughter cooked a waffle. After I contacted GE via email, the case manager (Misty) sent a technician to my home to inspect the microwave. This was free of charge. The technician claimed the microwave was able to be repaired and he needed to order touch up paint and a few parts. I was shocked that the tech claimed this was a simple repair and able to be fixed. I said, "You need touch up paint? This is going to look horrible. How safe can this be after having a fire inside?" He claimed it will look good and I would not notice the paint.
I spent $411.00 on this microwave less than 2 years ago. I don't think I should have it fixed and touched up with paint to cover burn marks. The microwave went on fire. I don't want it fixed. It's not safe and should be scraped for safety regulations, not repaired and touched up inside with paint. The tech ordered a few parts and I immediately called the case manager Misty to stress to her my numerous concerns on the actions of the technician. I made clear that I was not satisfied with my microwave being fixed and painted when it went on fire, but would like a replacement. I told her I could understand fixing it if it was a broken part or electronic device, but not a fire. She agreed that she also would not like to have a fixed microwave in her home, but that GE can sell me one at a lower price of $150.00.
Really, do they need the money that bad that they can't stand behind a dissatisfied consumer when their product went on fire? This could have been so much worse. Lucky my daughter was in the next room. She smelled, heard the fire and stopped the microwave. I paid the $150 just so I can have a working, new, safer microwave in my kitchen. But this is crazy and not good business ethic on GE's behalf. This should be set as a recall, not a repair. I contacted the service manager again stressing my complaint and feelings about paying this fee for a new microwave. She said again that if the technician says the microwave can be fixed, then they'll listen to the technician and fix the item. Well this seems a little one sided since the technician works for GE. No brainier. What do you think he is going to say?

I live in a condominium building with approximately 105 units. We all had the same GE microwave installed in our units approximately five years ago (contractor-installed). I sent out a mass email to all of the owners to ask if they were having the same problems I was having my microwave, which was the touch panel will not accept commands. I received approximately 15 complaints from various homeowners with the same complaint.
When I called GE to tell them the problem I was having with my microwave, they told me a technician would have to come out and diagnose the problem. The service call would be $99.95, and at that time the technician would let me know what the problem was and tell me the charge for the replacement part and labor cost. I told GE Customer Service that there were many people in my condo building who were having the same problem and I wanted to know why each homeowner should have to pay the initial $99.95 service call fee? The response was, "That is our policy." To placate me, GE customer service said they would charge me the initial fee but I would receive a 25% discount for parts and labor.
In the meantime, two or three other homeowners made service call appointments for their microwave oven with GE. One homeowner was given a fee for parts and labor, which would have been only slightly less than buying a new microwave and another homeowner was not given a labor cost. In both cases, the homeowners did not go forth with their repairs, because buying a new microwave was more cost effective.
I want Consumer Affairs to know GE grossly mishandled this malfunction issue amongst a group of homeowners who own the same microwave. Secondly, I realize the microwave ovens are five years old, but GE should have some record regarding failing parts along with the life cycle of this product. Lastly, I want GE to be held accountable for not telling consumers a repair cost for certain issues. There should be a cost per hour, not cost per broken item.
I kept records of all correspondence amongst the homeowners of my condominium building, so I will be of great assistance if you need further help from me. Product malfunction is a GE Profile Spacemaker 2.0 Model # JVM2070SK02.

We've had our new over the stove microwave (GE Profile Microwave Oven PVM2170SR1SS) just over one year and the oven light went out. The owner's manual has no information about how to replace the light. I called GE customer assistance office and they said it requires a technician to come to the house to replace the bulb. A service call would cost around $95 minimum. This is a ridiculous requirement to make consumers do a service call for an oven light. The owner's manual does show how to replace the charcoal air filter, if you use one, by removing the plastic cover across the top of the oven with the door open. Guess what? I removed the two screws holding the plastic cover and sure enough, there was also the access to the cover to access the oven light. You just remove the one screw and the small cover plate can be removed! Be sure to turn off the power to the oven before removing the small 50w Halogen G8 light bulb (Home Depot $5.00).
My complaint about GE is that they do not give the homeowner information about replacing this oven light, but instead require you to pay for a service call. The irony is that the owner's manual tells you how to access the filter by removing the plastic grill and that's how you also access the panel to replace the oven light bulb. They also tell you how to replace the light bulb that provides light to your range, so it can't be a "safety issue" about replacing light bulbs. Requiring the consumer to request a service call for $95 just to replace the oven light, when GE could have easily put the procedure in the owner's manual, is a real consumer ripoff!

I feel fortunate in one sense of only having one GE appliance in my home. I had to replace all appliances in my home when I purchased over 3 years ago. I originally purchased a GE microwave and range, but I exchanged the range for another brand after finding the range double oven was a bad design and did not heat efficiently. The microwave (GE Profile Cafe CVM2072SM2SS) never impressed me with the power, but all seemed to work to my satisfaction until a month before the extended warranty was to expire.
I had a technician come to check out the issue via Sears. The repairman could not reproduce a couple of concerns I had and told me it was fine with just a test of heating water. The tech advised me that it was not worth repairing if the control panel goes out. The control panel stopped detecting touch just shy of 2 months after the warranty expired. I got a quick response from GE customer service via email and have been offered a 50% discount on a new microwave or they will pay for replacement part. Their discounted fee does include shipping, labor and removal of old "new" unit.
I have heard bad reviews on GE service, and it would cost at least $200 for diagnoses and labor, either way. They would have to dismount the unit which was a real pain to install to begin with. I can get a new microwave for the cost of repairs, but the problem with this is: 1) It will be another GE. 2) It will be a unit a lot less than the $800 spent on the old "new" one I already have. 3) They will give me a one year warranty which will be worthless, unless I have the same issues as other reviews on the models I can feasibly purchase at a discounted rate. 4) Any of their microwaves have bad ratings with the same issues which means I will need to replace again in the very near future. I am damned all around given the price of the new GE is less expensive than all other brands available for replacement.

A week came and no parts showed up. I have called up customer advocate and they assured me the said part will be delivered in time for the service appointment.
Unfortunately, when they came, the said parts have not been delivered and I was given the lame excuse of systems failure; the request has not gone through their system. So the technician assured me that he will put in an overnight request for the said parts and the oven could be fixed within the week. He even gave me his work and cell number for me to call if I have any inquiries. But he never picks up or even returns my calls. So another service appointment was scheduled and parts were delivered, only to find out that it was the wrong parts, supposedly for another customer and for a different microwave model.

We bought a new GE Profile Wall Oven in 2002. First time I used it, I noticed that it was very hot and would not cool down. We have had to replace the controls about four times, I think - it may have been more. The first time I think that we paid for the service call, but GE has paid for all the repairs since then - and there have been many calls. Now the fan does not seem to be working correctly, and I am concerned about fire hazard. Also it is really frustrating to cook something and then have the oven go out. We replaced a twenty-year-old GE wall oven that was still working with the Profile oven. We thought the new one would be just as good as the old one - no way! We would not get another GE.

We have purchased this GE Profile PP970FR2SS microwave with oven combo a year ago. In less than a year, we have experienced these problems on the microwave that still keeps on heating even if it's not in use and a buzzing sound can be heard. We called for repair and the repairmen replaced the door switch mechanism. In less than a month, same issues persist. Again repaired but after some months, same problem. The technician said that the door mechanism is not the original parts and ordered the original GE Profile parts. But after replacing it, the same problems exist and the technician said that it's now the panel board.
It's been almost two weeks now that we don't have any microwave and still waiting for GE technician to repair it. I wouldn't buy this brand anymore and wouldn't recommend a combo for microwave and oven. This is a poor design and quality on GE. Hopefully, this equipment will not cause any fire. We now turn off the circuit breaker for this device every time we go on a long trip/vacation.

The microwave has now stopped working and just makes an odd noise like groan or "urrrrr". It’s just over 2 years old. It's a piece of **. It should last 10 years or more, like my last 2 have. Our microwave was manufactured in September 2010 and we purchased it in October 2010. It has been used a few times a week for reheating leftovers. I have owned secondhand microwaves and unknown brand microwaves, and they have been more reliable than the GE Profile. My husband and I invested in the Profile series when we remodeled our kitchen. After a lifetime of moving and living in homes with much to be desired kitchens, we decided to spend money to provide ourselves with a functional kitchen. If I had to do it all over again, I would have saved myself the trouble and purchased my appliances from another company.
After having to call GE to send out a repair person 5 different times to work in our microwave oven, we are left with a nonworking microwave oven. It seems that a company that has made record profits from their faithful American fans could do the right thing and replace the microwave oven with something that works. Perhaps they do not have such a product. They have offered to let us buy a new one at a big discount, but they have not clarified what the percentage will be. The problem I have with this is that spending one more dollar on a product with no backing from the company it came from would be asking for more let down. I believe I'll have this lemon removed and quit before I take on any more consumer letdowns.

In the one year I've had it, it has broken 4 times. One time, it was the magnetron (seems like a common problem). Another time it was the motherboard. Another time, it was a bad wiring problem. Each time, I called the GE repair service, and it takes 1-2 weeks to get an appointment. Twice, they cancelled my appointment on the day because they overbooked. Given that I had to take time off work for the appointments, this is a huge inconvenience. I have been waiting over this last time for an appointment, after they again cancelled my scheduled appointment. GE makes a terrible product, and their repair service is a joke. Our GE microwave stopped working after about 7 months of use. I've never had a microwave break down on me before. I've owned other brands which I've used for years, actually lasted over 10 years. The only reason we purchased the GE microwave was because our old microwave was too big in size. I called GE for warranty service and it was very much of a hassle just to make the appointment. I had to call several times because a customer service representative misinformed me. It took a couple days just to set up a service appointment.
I've told the representative that the microwave stopped working and will not power back on again. The representative told me that the fuse probably went out. Something must have blown out. Finally, the appointment was made for about a week later, which was the earliest time available. It is so inconvenient not to have a working microwave even just for a day. Anyhow, the service tech came about two hours late. The scheduled time was for 8am-12 pm. He showed up close to 2pm. A family member was waiting at home all day because of this. Then the service tech told us that he needs to order a part for the microwave and that he will return a week later to repair the microwave.
A week later, he didn't show up. No one even called. So I called back GE and found out that the appointment has been postponed! So now, we have been without a microwave for about three weeks. I think this is ridiculous. I'm pretty sure that this is a common problem with GE microwaves and they already had an idea why the microwave wasn't working. It doesn't power-up! Now they are telling me that they don't have the part/s in stock? If I had known that we had to invest so much time and go through so much hassle from the get-go, I would have just purchased a new microwave three weeks ago. After ignoring me for quite some time, I got this reply. In the notice, they told me to get Sam's club to replace the defective and apparently unusable product they are selling knowing it is defective. I love the part where you can't cook something with too much liquid in it. Who does that when they microwave?
Here's what they said: "Thank you for contacting GE regarding your microwaves and the paint peeling issue. I did some research on it and found that it a common issue among all brands. Excessive heating of un-covered liquids can create a high amount of condensation that the inside paint is not meant to withstand. Minor chips to the coating on the microwave's interior cavity will not affect the product's performance. However, if the coating is actively flaking or peeling anywhere inside the oven cavity (including under the turntable), discontinue the use of the microwave and replace it. GE does not have an approved method of repair, and the microwave is not repairable. Please return to Sam's club for an exchange, if you are still within the one year warranty. If Sam's is refusing to accept the return, contact the Sam's Club Support Team at 1-877-885-2787. GE will then reimburse Sam's club."

We purchased a GE over-the-range microwave oven last November 2010 and it was installed in February 2011 when our addition was finished. Last week, it decided to stop responding to instructions. When the door is closed, it just continues to run--the turntable turns, the light stays on and the fan keeps running. It will respond to instructions, but when we want to shut it off if the door is shut, we have to unplug it--which is a real pain because it is over the range.
We have an old microwave that was my wife's parents and it still works fine even though it is about 20 years old. The new one stops working in a little more than a year which is not acceptable. We contacted GE and were told that we would have to pay over $100.00 to get the thing fixed. I don't think so. We will not purchase anything GE again.

I bought this JVM1540SN1SS microwave just two years ago. From past five months, certain keys stopped working. Then today, it gives me error "service may be required - keyboard shorted." Microwave is unusable at this point and out of warranty. But my previous microwaves worked for decade without any issues. This one broke in about 1.5 years. These microwaves are of bad quality. I think GE should recall these microwaves and get it fixed free of cost for consumers.

I bought a brand new house and it came with the set of GE profile appliances in 10/2009. In November of this year, it came on for one minute on its own and then popped and indicated a circuit board failure. The inside of the microwave was extremely hot and there was obviously an electrical short. This could have burned down my house! My fiance replaced the circuit board at a cost of $125. I negotiated from the service department that supplied all my builders appliances. This week it happened again. This time, there was a cup of coffee in the microwave and it boiled in the minute before the microwave fried itself! I can't believe that GE still has this product on the market! Any product on the market! I have to replace this because I can't sleep thinking it's going to catch my house on fire. Are there no ethics anywhere?

GE Profile Died in 21 months! We paid $250 for a GE Profile S/S Microwave, Model JES2251SJ02, and serial # LT917413U. It was manufactured in June of 2010. On March 12, 2012, we experienced a light show coming from the area containing the light bulb. We brought it to the place of purchase, they called the GE man and he said yes, you have a 5 year warranty on your magnetron tube but you cannot replace it yourself. It will cost you $244 for the repair! That is a no-brainer.
I called GE support, if you pay a service man $79.95 to verify your unit is in need of a magnetron tube and decide you don't want to fix it, we will give you $100. Wow, I could have made $25. I made the stupid mistake of not buying a service contract, shame on me. No more GE products will ever live in this house!

Within a year and a half of buying a new construction condo, the GE microwave fan stopped working (used the condo for no more than 30 days). I read all these complaints and am not surprised. My experience with Kitchen Aid appliances (refrigerator, microwave all junk) is no different than this. If I were to replace any of my appliances, I will not buy an American brand because they are all made in some other country with very poor quality control for very high profit and low quality goals. No choice for now, other than to get it repaired. At least, it provides employment, but what a way to create employment. I would never work for such companies.

I received a recall on my original wall oven with microwave unit, and was only going to receive financial help from GE, if I replaced it with the same unit model JTP90. The unit was only 3 years old at the time. I purchased the new model, which cost $1,200.00, and received a check from GE for $600.00 for the recall, which is already a rip off in my opinion. I had the new unit for 14 months, when the microwave stopped working completely, with no power whatsoever.
I thought it had blown a fuse. I took it to the repair center, and they tell me the diode, capacitor, and fuse have all failed. $200 later, it can be fixed, but they have no idea why all three went out at the same time. I, however, do know, GE just makes junk! I will never purchase another GE appliance. Just a side note, my 3 year old dishwasher was also recalled, and it was $600 to replace it with the same model. They sent me a check for $300. It sounds like GE has a good thing going. Make a piece of junk and recall it a few years later, and only give the customer half of the cost to replace it, and only if they buy another GE product! Wow!

I purchased the GE Caf Advantium Oven Model No. CSA1201RSS. This is supposed to be one of their top of the line Microwave/Speedcookers and at $699.00 it should be. Within the first few months with little use, it made a loud buzzing sound and it went dead as if the breaker tripped. It was under warranty and a GE tech came out and repaired it free.
The problem was the Magnetron, a key component inside the unit. I was shocked to see that the Magnetron was made by LG. I bought a GE because I did not want an LG, but I ended up with a GE with LG parts. The unit worked for several months and now it will not heat anything. I have only had this unit for 13 or 14 months and it is broken for the second time. I called the 1-800-GE-CARES to learn that they do anything but care. They told me it was out of warranty, but the parts are covered.
It will cost me $99.99 for the tech to come out plus the cost of labor to repair the unit, which varies based on what needs to be repaired. This is unacceptable. There is clearly something wrong with this unit. I have had microwaves last 10+ years with no issues, and one of them was a GE! I thought GE would stand behind their products better, especially since they can see I had prior problems with this unit. This is a $699.00 tin can.

We moved into a new home in June of 2011 with the appliances already included. Ours came equipped with a GE, over-the-range microwave, model JVM1540DP1WW, manufactured in Malaysia, in April of 2010. Within several months, the revolving platter began to make a bumping noise while turning and then it eventually quit turning altogether. Five service calls later, we had the platter motor replaced, circuit board and four fan motors (apparently the platter has voltage supplied from that fan to make it run) and it still didn't work.
It was taken back to the shop and eventually the problem was traced to a loose wire on a terminal connector. After a month of operation, it is again beginning to make the bumping noise while the platter turns. To top it off, Consumer Reports (the March issue) deals with problematic microwaves, especially the GE model and the unexpected fires that can occur. In addition, they can be susceptible to (not always however and only on certain models) wireless transmissions which could potentially cause them to start on their own. I know for a fact that it knocks off my XM Satellite Radio when it is running. Bottom line...it's history and will be replaced with a check rated appliance before I too have a major problem.

My two year old microwave, GE 1750 over the range, started running on it's own. I disconnected it and called GE and asked if they had experienced any problems with their product and if this was a fire hazard, the nice young lady put me on hold and did "research" and stated that no reports of a fire hazard or running on it's own. My husband encouraged me to do my own research and guess what? shocking, I was lied to! There are reported fires on the news and a law firm has a class action lawsuit against GE!
I guess because this appliance wasn't in the nice young lady's mom's house it wasn't of importance to inform me of the fire hazard? GE is off of my list of products I would buy!

I bought a replacement and installed it on 1/1/2010. Now 14 months later it no longer works. I was going to warm up a vegetable for dinner cooking on the range and everything on the microwave went out. About 1/2 hour, all lights came back, I reset the clock (no error signal occurred), and now every function on the microwave works except it does not heat anything!
I unplugged the plug for a little and replugged. I also tried unplugging and turning the circuit breaker off. When plugged and turned back on, after resetting the clock again, everything works except not heating anything at all. This M/W cost right at $400 and there’s no excuse for it not to work after slightly over one year. Same with the first one, as 4 years is also way too soon for them to go out. Beware of GE's scam! My new house came with a GE microwave oven model JVM1630. It no longer heats food so I called GE repair. Here's basically what they told me: It is likely the magnetron tube and it is still under warranty, so no charge to replace it but I would have to pay $99.95 for the repairman to come to my home to diagnose the problem. If I decided I didn't want to repair the microwave, I was offered a $100 coupon toward a new one but it had to be a GE and it had to be bought on their website only. If I decided to go ahead with the repairs, the $99.95 would be deducted from the bill and I would only have to pay for additional parts and labor.
I repeatedly asked for a ball-park labor charge so I could make an informed decision as to whether it was cost effective to have the repairman come out or just get a brand new one elsewhere. The person on the repair line hung up on me! I called back and I was told the same thing; that no one could tell me what the labor cost estimate might be. I asked to talk to a supervisor and same story. I didn't schedule a repair because I was taking a long trip and wouldn't be using the microwave anyway. When I returned from my trip, I called GE repair and again they wouldn't give me a ball park figure. Frustrated, I decided to have the repairman just come out and repair the darn thing and an appointment was scheduled for the next Monday. I had to rearrange a Monday day trip to Wednesday and set the repair appointment.
On Monday, it was starting to get late in the afternoon, so I called to find out if the guy was on his way. A recording said my call was noted and I would be receiving a follow-up call. About 10 minutes later, Kim in dispatch called to tell me she had to reschedule the repairman to Wednesday. I explained I already had an appointment on Wednesday. which was already changed because it conflicted with the repairman coming to my home. She told me the repairman couldn't come because his truck wasn't safe to drive so that whole day was shot. The appointment was rescheduled for Wednesday and I had to again reschedule my other trip.
When the guy finally showed up on Wednesday, he told me to put a glass of water in the microwave and start it. Ten seconds later, he declared it to be the magnetron tube. He was at my house about 10 minutes, just long enough to take my $99.95 credit card payment and to give me an estimate of $246.90 to repair the microwave which included the free magnetron tube, a $20 part plus tax and labor. The estimate had instructions on how to get the $100 coupon if I decided to buy a new GE microwave, which he said is what most people do. He didn't seem like he came prepared to repair the microwave at all. I was so frustrated and already out the $99.95, so I told him to go ahead and repair it. He said I should call repair to schedule him to come back to repair it! I told him to just repair it now and he said he didn't think he had a magnetron tube in his truck. I asked him if he would go to the truck and check! He did, and nope, no tube and he left.
I think this is a great scam GE and maybe others have going. It's entrapment. They get you to accept a repairman to come to your home and charge you nearly $100 for it, but give you a coupon for $100 for a new one but it has to be a GE and can only be bought from their website where they can go as high as $500 or $600. By the way, I got on the website to find a replacement. My model had been discontinued and the only one in my price range was also a discontinued model. They charge $75 to come out to install it and another $30 to take away your old one. I called local appliance stores to see if I could unload my old microwave for parts and they all said the same thing: stay away from GE products.

There's even specific mention of an extended warranty in my owners manual for the magnetron, however, it requires me to pay a technician for a service call and the repair ($150+). GE Customer service agree to sell me a replacement magnetron for $79 which is about half the suggested retail price, although I found the same part (wb27x10017) on the web for $59 from Martin Microwave.
