Bought house with over the range GE microwave, dated June ‘21. It’s barely been used because the house was empty a year & we only live here part time. After 3 years it just stops working. Then it starts again for a random time & stops whenever. I called GE repair/warranty and they said there is only a one year warranty and gave me numbers of people that will fix it. They won’t offer to pay anything or do anything to help with their complete trash product. It’s incredible when I compare it to the other appliance companies I have called that stand behind their product. I will never buy a GE and will make sure that anyone I know will hear about my problems with that company and their product.

Do not buy. The microwave that I purchased (over the range) has a maximum cook time of 8 minutes before it shuts down. Then I have to climb up on a chair, unplug it and resume cooking. I'll never buy another GE appliance again!

We purchased a GE over the stove microwave model JVM3160RF5SS in February 2020. In January 2024, it started having issues that seem to be arising from the door. Sometimes, we would close the door and the fan and the light would come on even before we had entered any cook times. At other times, we would enter cook times, and the fan and light would come on, but no cooking would happen. We had the door switches replaced, and the microwave worked for a month, and the problem has recurred.

I have a brand new house and the GE microwave over the stove was included. It is by far the worst microwave I’ve ever had. The turntable is always coming off the axis and it is very difficult to get it back on track because there are just a couple of bumps in the base that the turntable is supposed to clip to. If it wasn’t built-in already, I would definitely purchase a different brand and I wouldn’t be surprised if I didn’t actually do that in the near future because I hate it that much.

Bought model Jvm6175bl1ts April 2021 for my new house and it worked beautifully. Chose it because I always had them in my apartments and never a problem. That should have been a warning. Now the thing is smoking. Took it down and removed cover. It’s the transformer. I’m not spending more money to fix.

I Purchased General Electric microwave about 2 1/2 years ago from Home Depot. Ever since I have this product the carousel never stays in place. I’ve gotten burned on it taking hot sauce and the plate airborne out of the microwave causing the hot tomato sauce to burn my hand. When I contacted the company they referred me right away to Cedric Company and they just shuffled me through all their hypothesis and never help me, never claimed, never did anything to rectify my complaint. However, I was burned badly by the sauce because the spindle on the microwave never stay locked down.

I purchased an over the range GE microwave on 6/24/21 to replace the one already there (same model). I replaced it with a new GE (same model) in 1/10/23 when it stopped working. On 5/7/24 the GE microwave I purchased in 2023 has stopped working. I have a countertop Sharp microwave that I used in my office that is 28 years old and it still works, so I know it can be done, that is, make a microwave that lasts. I called GE for help, but the best deal they would offer is replacement parts, but I would have to pay for a service call. I have no interest in giving GE any more of my money. I would like a full refund for both of the GE microwaves I purchased that only lasted for about 1 1/2 years. There should also be a recall of all of these faulty microwaves.

I believe GE is perpetuating theft by fraud on American consumers at large and promoting a mindset that "they just don't make them the way they used to" to help snowball their theft by grabbing additional money for service calls and more replacement microwaves. This constitutes, at the very least, Grand Larceny. As you can see from this website, I am not alone: Top 1,230 Reviews From Legit GE Microwave Ovens Buyers | Page 3 (consumeraffairs.com). Over 1200 reviews of GE microwaves on this consumer site, and 94% are 1 star, negative reviews with stories like mine. Class action lawsuit is also mentioned.

GE customer service reps themselves told me appliances are "no longer made to last". They seem almost proud of it when in reality they should be ashamed. GE is defrauding the public and we should not just accept it. These days, many ** are doing well to afford the food that goes in their microwave and should not be compelled to continually replace the appliance. I would like to see reforms mandated for this industry. For example, if a consumer purchases a new microwave and it stops working before it is 5 years old, the manufacturer should either A). quickly repair free of charge (within a week) or B). Replace the appliance free of charge within a week. They should also have to submit to a watchdog agency.

The million dollar question is this: Is it intent or incompetency? If it is intent, in other words, making equipment that will barely get by for a year and a half to sell more microwaves, they should be brought to justice and be made an example of. If it is incompetency, that should be brought to light and dealt with as well. The ** consumer deserves protection from monster sized corporations like GE who beat up on them by draining their wallet.

I purchased a GE microwave that had to be returned due to electrical problems and received the same model. One year later, the same model basically caught fire internally. GE sent out a repair technician that confirmed that it was a manufacturing defect. GE then claims that it was beyond warranty and would only give me a $75 Good Will Certificate to purchase another GE microwave. What a joke! The original microwave price was $247. It took a month to get to the point of the Good Will Certificate.

I purchased a GE Profile™ 2.1 Cu. Ft. Over-The-Range Sensor Microwave Oven and paid over $500. I have had it 3 years and in the first 6 months it broke. It was under warranty and the $400 fee (door replacement) was covered. Then it broke 1 1/2 years later and I received a quote for $200 in labor plus the cost of parts (no longer under warranty). When the repaid guy walked in the house he said, "Oh, one of these. Is it the door?" I said no, we already had the door replaced, but his comment was very telling that I purchased garbage. I fixed it myself for $10 - it was a fuse. Then it broke 2 weeks later and I believe it is the fuse again. I contacted GE because I believe I received a lemon and they are willing to give me parts at 50% and nothing more. This was the worst investment decision I ever made and I caution others to not purchase this microwave.

We have a GE built-in combination oven and microwave. The oven gets up to heat very quickly and bakes in less time than recipes call for baking. The microwave is an 1100 watt unit and performs equally well, and has for 29 years, Our cook top is a GE glass top unit, installed 11 years ago in a kitchen upgrade, performs equally well, though not quite as fast heating as our old gas unit but much cleaner and attractive. I recently replaced a Maytag Micro hood microwave with a GE JVM3160DF5CC. First off I am amazed at the price because I sold items like this in the 70's for so much more money back when microwave ovens were very new to consumers. The unit is quite large in inside capacity. Quiet and heats up very evenly. I was also happy I could replace the unit in Bisque as our other kitchen appliances are that color.
