I had an Emerson microwave that was bought in 1998 or 1999. Up until today, it has been an excellent microwave, but it came on all by itself and burned to a crisp. If I had not been home, I would have lost everything. My suggestion is if you have a microwave of any kind in your home, unplug it unless you are using it.

I bought this Emerson microwave model MW9339SB one month ago from Walmart. It now gets red hot & does not even pop popcorn. It works off & on, but I am fearful that it will catch fire as it gets so hot you can't touch it. I had to use gloves to move it to unplug & get it off counter. Emerson will repair if I pack & ship the unit to them prepaid & insured via UPS. Plus, they want a $15.00 check. It's the worst microwave I have ever owned. I will never buy anything Emerson again.

I purchased an Emerson Microwave model #MWG9115SL in 2009 from Walmart. In September 2012, it started to continuously run even when the time was at zero. It arced and sparked continuously. The microwave was very hot to the touch and I had to unplug it from the electrical outlet to get it to stop. If this had happened when I was not at home, it would have been disastrous. I am putting in a complaint to Emerson in regards to this issue. I can no longer use this microwave safely.

1100-watt Emerson microwave with browning unit - After about 6 months of use, the ceramic pieces held on by one screw each in the browning unit began to smell and burn. After looking at the browning units, the screws had burned into the ceramic and made them burn sending smoke and sparks through the microwave. One of the pieces of ceramic fell off into our food. When I touched it, it fell into pieces in my hand so I took out the screw that was to hold it in. Then about a month later, the other one started to do the same thing so I took it out too. I have not used the browning unit since as I am afraid to use it. Almost afraid to use the microwave itself but since it's the only one I have and I live on a small disability check, I can't afford another microwave. Has this happened to others?

Let me give you a little history. I purchased an Emerson microwave 32 years ago, back when things were made to last. It did last until about a month ago. Since I had such a great experience with my first microwave ever, I decided to stick with Emerson and purchased a 1000W model number MW1161SB 3 weeks ago. The touch pad for settings has already started wearing out and I can't read a couple of them. After 3 weeks, are you kidding me? Anyway, I'm pissed off.

My husband bought this Emerson Microwave #MW9325SL in 12/09 as a Christmas gift. We barely use it and the paint inside the cavity is peeling. The other day, it also would not shut off and made a weird buzzing noise. Of course the warranty is expired, but for over $100 I would have thought it would last longer than this. I could buy microwave paint for $20 but might as well another microwave, and this time not from Walmart. All their electronics seem to have problems.

On July 23, 2012, I bought an Emerson microwave model # MW8121SL. After 3 weeks, it stopped working. However, the inside light would not shut off. I contacted Emerson through their website. This is the return email from Emerson: "Please unplug your unit and cut off the electrical cord and forward the cord, the owner's manual, a copy of the receipt (if available), the serial number, the label from the back of the unit with the model number, the glass tray, the roller guide, a note explaining the problem, and a $15 check or money order payable to Emerson Radio, to the address below. Upon receipt of these items, the paperwork will be processed and we will forward a new unit to you."

I understand they need to validate I actually have this unit. Yes, I still have the receipt. The part that I find upsetting is they want me to pay $15 plus pay for the shipping of all the items listed. The microwave cost $100 to begin with. I think they should take care of the cost. My reply to them was I will toss the microwave out on the curb, then go buy a new and different brand while telling others how poorly the Emerson brand customer service and product is.

While I was trying a new 15-minute recipe in the microwave (Emerson microwave Model #MW9339SA Suffix A), it just completely stopped working. I unplugged it, waited a few minutes for it to cool down and restarted it. It has not worked the same since. The 30-second button does not work at all and the other options work sporadically. Sometimes I can trick it by using the popcorn button to just heat something but most of the time it just tricks me by not working at all. I just bought it in December at Walmart. What a waste of money. I will not buy this brand of anything ever again especially after seeing all the complaints and the company's utter lack of customer service in resolving anyone's issues.

About a month ago, I was sitting in my home and began to smell a "burnt electronics" type of odor. Upon investigating the source, I found that our almost new Emerson microwave was running, even though all indications were that the unit was off! I attempted to pull the microwave out from the counter, but the outside of the unit was literally too hot to touch. After securing some gloves, I was able to pull out the unit and unplug it from the wall. Checking with other family members, the unit was last used the evening before. How long was it running continuously? I have no idea. I'm just glad I had the day off work that day or I might have lost my house and perhaps my two teenagers who were sleeping in that morning.

Even after a month, Emerson has not contacted me despite providing them with all information and my personal contact information. This type of inaction after a clear electronics failure so alarmed me, I finally filed a complaint with the CPSC. After receiving confirmation of the acceptance and the publication of my complaint there, I was amazed to find literally hundreds of reports on the internet of near catastrophic events due to the failure of this unit. Emerson - do the right thing. Recall the MWG9115SL Suffix D before someone loses their life or their property due to the well documented failure of this unit.

The microwave (model MWG9115SL) that was purchased at Walmart in 2011 has been shooting sparks during cooking times on most occasions of usage. Also, the paint around inside the door frame has been peeling off. I contacted Emerson by email on Saturday, June 15, 2012. I received an email from their customer service department today, Tuesday, June 18, 2012, telling me that their tests on this microwave have shown that the peeling of the paint is due to the use of harsh detergents and because owners are not cleaning up after spills. I informed them that my husband and I are both retired senior citizens and have never used harsh detergents nor allowed spills or splatters of any kind to set without immediately cleaning up. I also stated that I cannot believe that Emerson is not accepting any responsibility for this major defect in their microwave product.

The letter stated that they suggest I do not further use this microwave. I am totally ticked off by their response. I agree with others that this product is dangerous and customers/consumers who purchased these products should receive a full refund of the purchase price and a letter of apology from this company, if not more. Apparently, the shelf life for the Emerson microwave (MW8784SB) interior paint is only as long as the warranty. Because these small units don't vent properly, the steam turns to moisture and collects under the glass plate of the oven causing the failure of the painted surface - which then causes the paint to fracture/crack, then moisture seeps under good paint and rusts causing additional fracturing/bubbling and peeling. Carefully monitor (in the first three months during warranty period) for this issue and get your money back if you notice this issue. After this period, it will be necessary to remove the plate and wipe out the whole oven daily with a dry cloth. You are just a profit to Emerson Corporation after the 90-day warranty and another dissatisfied number to their customer service department.

I started the microwave (Emerson Microwave Model MW7300W) and in under 2 minutes, it got extremely hot on the outside. Then it began making crackling, sparking-like noises on the inside. I touched the side and top and they were so hot, it burned my hand (for a minute, I was afraid it might be from microwave radiation, but it was just heat). I am horrified! It's been just under a year since I bought the thing (but since I didn't keep the receipt, or register it online, warranty options are nonexistent).

Needless to say, I am frustrated as hell and will never buy any Emerson product ever again! Maybe I should feel lucky that I didn't have a fire like most on this board, as I was simply heating a glass of water, and there was nothing to "burn" except my hand (and it is bad, I have blisters forming and it is bright red, maybe 2nd degree; if I had health care, I would be in urgent care right now!). I explained the problem and she assured me that there was nothing they can do because it was out of warranty. I asked her if it was Emerson's policy to manufacture inferior products that have a short life span, to take people's hard earned money and then expect them to buy another product when the original one becomes a problem. She proudly stated, "Yes, it is. We appreciate you buying Emerson products." I don't know what is scarier, the fact that Emerson operates that way or that Donna agreed with that statement. I have an Emerson MW8999SB that was manufactured in 2008 and it has failed. I work on all types of electronics to include microwaves for the company that I work for. Found a bad door switch was the cause of the no power failure. Replaced the switch and now the turntable and the fan run constantly when the door is closed. No power from the magnetron unless I press time in on the timer then the magnetron heats the water I have in the microwave. No arching and no sparking or burning smells. I tried to find a replacement control circuit board but was unable to find one.

I am currently eliminating this microwave from our inventory and replacing it with a Kenmore brand microwave. I have read a lot of the posts on this web site and from the experience, I have with microwaves it sounds like the magnetron are causing the loud buzzing noise and the arching. Possible faulty waveguide and waveguide covers causing the arching and the bursting into flames. All in all sounds like Emerson has made a bad product and needs to do the right thing and recall all the microwaves and issue full refunds to people.

They may not want to due to the cost but it will be cheaper than the lawsuits that could arise when someone gets hurt, killed, or left homeless when their house burns down. Kenmore microwave cost a little more than the ones you buy on sale at Walmart or target, etc but, hey last longer and Sears has parts available when you need to repair them.

Now that another plate has exploded and weird smells are coming from it, I am discontinuing use of this product. After seeing all the problems with this model and company, I am surprised that there is no recall. This appliance is unsafe to use, and may very well burn your house down! They ask that the part be mailed (my cost) before a new one is shipped (2-3 weeks). That's ridiculous. They need to ship the new one first and pay for shipping cost for parts or refund me my money so I can go buy some other non-Emerson microwave. I will be without microware for minimum 2-3 weeks. I’ll pay for shipping of parts and deal with Emerson's customer rep's attitude. I paid for bad product and there’s no guarantee of product reliability in the future. Prefer to get money back.

They say it’s because of the way I am cleaning it and so forth and not to use it. Well, who has money to buy a new one every other year? They should last awhile. Now, the oven simply will not turn off after the cycle has timed out. This is by far the worst appliance I have ever owned. Needless to say, I didn't get my answer. I think there is a defect in the microwave. I won't be buying anymore Emerson anything. I guess you get what you pay for. I bought this Emerson Microwave Model no. MWG9111GL just over two years ago. Shortly after the purchase, the microwave stopped working after my mother had used it to reheat some food. The microwave has barely been used at all. After some time had gone by, the microwave worked again. Still ever barely used. I spent a good amount of money purchasing this oven. I believe It was about $250. I assumed that the most expensive oven the store had would be the best one. I was obviously wrong.

There was one more expensive and a tad larger, but this one had the grilling option. As I'm a chef by trade, this oven doesn't get much use as I cook fresh with the stove. The oven was mostly ever used for the children to heat a snack up after school, being that the stove was assumed to be more dangerous. Well, recently, my mother had tried to cook rice in the microwave oven when it failed. Now this is what's scary. The microwave digital panel isn't working, but when you open the door, the microwave turns on. The turn table spins and light comes on as if cooking. This is definitely a serious issue. The door interlocking system is supposed to prevent dangerous issues such as this. I can only hope that there has been no serious radiation harming my family.

I cannot express how I feel concerning the danger that my children have been exposed to, due to this company's lack of responsibility with their products. Another note, the paint inside is cheap as many others has mentioned. After my mother warmed a cup of coffee, the paint under the turn table was eaten away (prior to this failure). My mother is barely ever over, and all three issues happened when she used the microwave under normal operating circumstances. Emerson is surely open to law suit.

I too purchased an Emerson microwave (model # MWG9115SL). I have had it over a year. It was purchased from Walmart. It has worked ok until a month ago. I was heating up a food item and walked away for a second when I heard a lot of popping. I turned around and saw a lot of sparks coming from inside the microwave. I thought it was having a firework display.

When I opened the door there was a flame in the top of the microwave. I feel like everyone else. Emerson should recall this product before someone gets hurt. Because sometimes my 9-year old niece uses it to heat items also and she might not have known to open the door. Shame on you, Emerson. Now I have to purchase a new microwave but it will not be an Emerson. You just lost a customer. Economic damage is that I have to purchase a new one, which will be a strain on my household because I am unemployed.

Emerson microwave model MWG9115SL Suffix C. This microwave has a clip that holds a heating element inside. I believe that the screws used to hold the clip were probably coated with some sort of coating to protect it from the effects of the microwave. After less than a year of use, this screw has begun to cause the microwave to spark and there is a substantial burn inside the microwave as a result. Use of the microwave in a prolonged period of time runs the risk of fire or explosion. This is being reported by many people and should be recalled.

There were sparks and smoke in the microwave. By the time I figured this out, I stopped the microwave on 21 seconds. That means in a matter of 9 seconds microwave started with problems. I unplugged the microwave. I purchased the oven approx 2008 from Target. I never had any problems until now. Just for the record, I only plug in oven for use. Emerson Microwave Oven and Grill MWG911SL. I am going to add my voice to the chorus here concerning this product. This microwave was bought as a replacement secondhand microwave/convection oven that I took over from my dad after my very first microwave -- first-generation Sharp that lasted a well over 10 years -- died. The hand-me-down oven had not been taken care of that well when I got it and it still lasted for about seven years -- so it was well over 14 years when it died. So my son's father bought this at BJ's based on price. He did not consult any kind of reviews online, which is what I normally do. Well, the oven looked nice and lasted a little over one year. Two weeks before it stopped working completely, it started to smell when I used it. That burnt-paper smell others have complained about and then it turned but stopped cooking, and that was the end of the oven.

Is it the magnetron, which has a 7-year warranty? Maybe. But labor is not included and neither is shipping. Attempting to get this repaired is probably close, or more, than what we paid for it, so it is now a piece of garbage. Based on what I've read here, it sounds like I, too, was lucky that all it did was smell and stop working. I will never buy another Emerson product. I've done extensive research on replacements and I think I've found what I'm looking for. It will cost me approximately $50 more than the Emerson which cost $69 plus tax -- but the reviews are glowing (majority the highest rating and literally 2 or 3 that were less than four stars) and a large portion based on multiple-year use.

Check out the Emerson reviews on Amazon. Predominantly less than 5 stars. In fact, I found virtually no 5 or 4 stars that weren't people who had just purchased the oven and liked it's appearance and feature. Fortunately, people like myself are following up on their initial reviews. Same complaints as here. People need appliances that last and and are not dangerous when they do finally wear out.

I would unplug it when it was not in use, which is probably a wise decision on my part after reading all the complaints on this unit. Several days ago, it would mysteriously start and stop, then trip a circuit breaker.

I contacted Emerson this morning, followed the instructions of mailing them the cord, turn table, etc.; it ran $21.73 to ship their 'pieces' back to them. When I called them back to question who was going to reimburse me for shelling out 1/4 of the price of the faulty microwave (purchase price was $85.19), I was basically told 'tough luck'. And now, I'm supposed to 'wait' for 2-3 weeks (if I'm lucky) to receive a replacement unit.

I only wish that I had read all the consumer complaints on this product prior to shipping it back to them. I can't believe Emerson has not issued a recall on this faulty item as of yet. I do know this much: I will never purchase another Emerson product as long as I live, & will encourage my friends to follow suit. No physical damage; merely the inconvenience of owning a product & being stuck in limbo, waiting for a replacement which will probably be faulty also.

With the coating gone, the oven is now headed to the trash heap as of July 5, 2010. This is sad because it looks new on the outside, but the damage inside is awful. Don't use this oven to microwave rice or boil eggs or anything to do with water because the steam doesn't escape. And also beware of the popcorn button unless you like it burnt. Well, it worked for over a year and that is the shortest time I've ever had a microwave to last. It should last 3 or more years so I'm out of what she paid for. And I don't want her to know it died.
