How does Cove security work?

Cove, a home security business founded in 2018, provides a DIY security system that takes about 30 minutes to install. It offers a 60-day trial for its products. Cove doesn't lock customers into long-term contracts like some other companies; you can cancel at any time. Its Basic plan costs just $19.99 per month, making it one of the cheapest monitoring plans available. Cove ships within two business days, so you receive your new home security system within 10 days after ordering.

Cove security cost

Cove's security monitoring costs $19.99 per month for Cove Basic and $29.99 per month for Cove Plus at the time of publishing. Cove does require automatic payments for monitoring services. Equipment can be purchased individually, with prices varying from $15 to $129 per product. Additionally, the Cove Plus plan comes with a $5 per month equipment reward, which rolls over. This accumulates money that can be used to buy new equipment. You can cancel at any time.

Just moved in to my house. Spoke to a Cove representative multiple times and they told us all we had to do was sign up for services and get a new “home base”. Well we did that and after two days of talking to them trying to connect cameras that came with the house they informed us on by the way you can’t transfer those just like the rest of their over inflated products. The only way to connect cameras is to purchase new cameras. Absolute trash and pyramid scheme. Ripping all of it out of the house this weekend and going with a more user friendly and helpful security system. If anyone asks me I’d never recommend this product and if yo are buying a home that has it and they say security system is staying tell them to rip it out. Leaving it is not a value add to the home. Surprised a company like this can even be in business still.

I had Cove less than two weeks. I did the install the way they said, the cameras gave me a lot of trouble and app kept crashing. When everything finally connected, the cameras continued going off all night. The batteries died within hours. The solar would not charge. I called in for help. I was hung up on the first time. The second time the agent was very good and gave me some troubleshooting ideas. However, the cameras continued behaving in the same fashion. I called in a third time and was berated with excuses about why it was my fault. The person kept having to talk to a supervisor, and then wanted my personal login and personal password to view the pictures allegedly taken by the cameras. The person then transferred me to cancel the service.

The person at cancellations was even worse. He gave me the same script excuses about why this was my problem and how they were the best. I had to raise my voice just to get the cancellation done and tell them to get out of my house. It only took them two weeks to show. They cannot be trusted, and don't care about anything except what their script tells them to say. This service is dishonest and with the amount of trouble I had, how do I know if an alarm goes off that they will even waste their time calling? I suspect they probably won't call. At least they sent me a shipping label for all of their equipment, hopefully that one is honest, and I don't have to pay for it. I recommend everybody think twice about the service and their attitude. It only took me two weeks to lose trust in this company, it may only take two seconds for someone to create trouble at my home and Cove most likely won't care.

I purchased $1,600 worth of equipment and initially was satisfied with the helpful set up provided by their customer service. I noticed that my bill quickly jumped from 19.99 + tax to their 29.99 plan without my consent. Well I assumed they had a price change. Then it jumped an additional $3/month apparently because I was using a debit card, which I had been using since signing up...what?? they just decided to add a convenience fee without notifying customers.

Well now comes the "fun" part. My debit card was compromised on Thursday. I called my bank and canceled the card Friday morning first thing. On Saturday, ONE DAY after the bill was due to be paid and did not go through (on the compromised card) Cove texted me, great I will take care of that Monday after I pick up my new card. Oh wait they also emailed me and throughout the day on Saturday (again ONE DAY after the bill was not paid) they called me FOUR times!! Even debt collectors for actual debts cannot call 4 times in a day. I was busy and ignored the first 2 calls from Cove. I talked to the third saying I would take care of it Monday when I got my new card but when they called me yet AGAIN, well the last caller got my entire wrath.

So now after spending 30+ minutes with a "supervisor" they said they would credit me for a month and gave me a LESS than $3 credit. So I called back to the billing department and 14 minutes later it was "fixed" and I did get a full months credit. I also would like to ask when their call center was outsourced to outside of the US? IYKYK.

I bought a $700+ system earlier this year. I had multiple issues:
      1) The video doorbell was not compatible with my current chimes. The cove doorbell was hooked up by the “hello tech” person they recommend, and it “fried” my existing chimes.
      2) Door sensors broke after less than 1 month.
      3) Security cameras which were supposed to be solar did not charge from the sunlight appropriate. Cameras were foggy most of the time unless I wiped them off frequently.
      4) After I had enough of this frustration, I contacted Cove and asked them to take the system back. They assigned a person to help me. I tried the various requests they put forth to improve my systems. It didn’t significantly improve functionality.

      5) I took all the cameras and sensors down, repackaged them and sent them back to Cove. 2 months later, still no reimbursement. Hence, be very skeptical of the satisfaction or money-back guarantee.

      Overall, very disappointing!

We moved from Vivint because of the absurd cost, but this wasn't the answer. The doorbell cam has instructions and hardware for a mechanical chime, but isn't supported per cs (requires a firmware update tbd); side note, the camera is chunky with average resolution. You have to use their chime and run on battery. I ate that after two rounds with support; not the end of the world. Now let's talk about the outdoor cameras. They appear to be old refurbished eufy cams that work 5% of the time. I repositioned them several times to get ONE of 3 to work effectively (motion detection is the same as a Blink cam - sensor break). I spoke to cs and they are replacing one cam because the motion sensor (confirmed on their end) that doesn't work. That's fine, but now when using the touch pad, the cameras don't load and look like a pixel mess.

After talking to support AGAIN, they needed a firmware update. The app bugs out and force closes when you try to update the cameras!!!! There is NO way to update the firmware other than Cove pushing it, which STILL didn't work. Their reps are super nice, but this company has some issues to work out, a lot of them (feels like a college student running used equipment of a garage). I could put something together from Amazon without the touchpad for way less and have it work. To note, internet connectivity is not the issue. We have a strong mesh network and even Cove confirmed the signals were fine.

Where I am today; 1 of 3 outdoor cams working, a smoke alarm that came with dead batteries and can't register, 4hrs of customer support, and half of this nonsense still in the box ready to ship back. Also forgot to mention the touchpad didn't work out of the box. I spent 2hrs with cs (who are awesome) hard resetting it several times to connect. We had high hopes based on reviews, but this feels like we got someone's used system.

The equipment itself was decent enough, but the customer service experience completely ruined it for me. Trying to get help was frustrating, and when I finally decided to cancel, the process was even worse. The representative handling my cancellation call was extremely difficult to understand and could not clearly communicate basic information. It made an already frustrating experience feel even more unprofessional. Customer support should not be this hard to deal with, especially when you’re trying to close out your account. I would not recommend based on the poor service experience alone.

Canceled service in December 2025 and provided written notice. Despite this, the company continued charging my card in March and April after authorization was revoked. Both charges were reversed by my credit card issuer as billing errors after multiple disputes. Service was unreliable with repeated false alarms. Following cancellation, I experienced a significant increase in phishing/spam emails to the address used for this account, which raises additional concerns.

After the first six months of use our front door stopped connecting to our base station due to distance. We repositioned multiple times, but it would never arm the front door. Eventually, the same thing happened with the back door. We switched monitoring companies and attempted to cancel our account with Cove. Every time you call in and select the phone option of cancellation it ends the call automatically just saying “goodbye”. You then have to call back in and speak to a customer representative. After calling today on April 21, I was told that I have to do a scheduled cancellation which will charge my card for May and it will cancel 30 days after that. So now I am being charged for two months that I am not using the system. Absolutely no customer service kindness due to this policy.
