How does Cove security work?

Cove, a home security business founded in 2018, provides a DIY security system that takes about 30 minutes to install. It offers a 60-day trial for its products. Cove doesn't lock customers into long-term contracts like some other companies; you can cancel at any time. Its Basic plan costs just $19.99 per month, making it one of the cheapest monitoring plans available. Cove ships within two business days, so you receive your new home security system within 10 days after ordering.

Cove security cost

Cove's security monitoring costs $19.99 per month for Cove Basic and $29.99 per month for Cove Plus at the time of publishing. Cove does require automatic payments for monitoring services. Equipment can be purchased individually, with prices varying from $15 to $129 per product. Additionally, the Cove Plus plan comes with a $5 per month equipment reward, which rolls over. This accumulates money that can be used to buy new equipment. You can cancel at any time.

Cove security plans

Cove has two plans, the Basic plan and the Plus plan.

The Basic plan includes:

  • 24/7 live monitoring
  • Alarm verification via app, InstaText or direct phone call
  • Dual connection (wired Ethernet and 4G cellular backup)
  • One-year equipment warranty
  • 24-hour battery backup
  • Smartphone control

The Plus plan includes everything in the Basic plan, as well as:

  • Lifetime equipment warranty (cameras not included)
  • Camera support (self-monitoring and access to recordings through Cove’s phone app)
  • Alexa and Google Home voice control
  • $5/month equipment award to use toward purchasing new equipment

Cove security equipment

Cove's Plus plan equipment comes with a lifetime warranty. Each Cove package includes a touch-screen panel that serves as the brains of the system. You can also have up to 20 user codes if you have multiple users. Additional equipment you can purchase from Cove includes:

  • Indoor camera ($59.99)
  • Outdoor camera ($129.99)
  • Doorbell camera ($99.99)
  • Flood sensor ($50)
  • Door sensors ($15)
  • Motion sensors ($50)
  • Smoke Detector ($95)

  • Glass break detector ($50)
  • Panic button ($30)
  • Key fob remote ($30)

I’ve used Cove for about four years, but unfortunately, they failed where it matters most: protecting their customers. I contacted customer service and followed their process to transfer my service to my new address. Despite doing everything they instructed me to do, the change was never properly completed. I only discovered this when my alarm was accidentally triggered and emergency services were sent to my old address. For a home security company, this is an extremely serious failure. If it had been a real emergency, the consequences could have been much worse. On top of that, my experiences with their customer service have often been disappointing. Representatives tend to be rude, impatient.

If I could, I would not give them a star at all. Their cameras are a fluke, as well as their follow-the-script support. I previously had an ADT system with several hard-wired cameras around my house and garage (shop), and I had the bright idea to switch to Cove. Wrong, wrong, wrong. I am very technical and familiar with networking. With that in mind, setup was a breeze. However, the doorbell was overriding the two cameras on the opposite side of it. The doorbell was continuously picking up anything that entered its path, leaves, etc. But you could stand or walk in front of either of the other two cameras all day; you may get ONE capture, if any.

The indoor cameras that were set up in the garage worked flawlessly at first. I spent days and hours on the phone with their various supposed to be technical support. All of them had me repeat the same redundant steps and contradicted what the last support staff had told me. I would ask them to escalate and that was a joke. No one would get back to me and I'd call again to what was supposed to be customer service. Evidently, they don't document, and I would have to repeat the same redundant steps. Finally, I was told there was an issue with the outdoor cameras, and they sent me new ones. I installed them and got the same issues. I documented my installation, showing feet from the router, doorbell, and garage off the ground, the dimensions of the house, and speed tests from AT&T.

We even created a 2.4 GHz group for the camera. I even had AT&T come out and add internet extenders. I was told the escalation team needed time to look at the issue. That was two months ago, and no one from Cove Escalation has contacted me yet. Now the doorbell camera has stopped working after trying to reset, test, etc. I called them. They had no progress for me on the main issues, and after refusing to do the redundant testing, they are sending me a new doorbell. While I'm waiting on it, the indoor cameras that had been working flawlessly have started triggering and sending me false alarms every 3 to 6 minutes. Frustration? I am way past that! I dread calling them and talking to them; they are incompetent. And there does not seem to be any recourse.

Just moved in to my house. Spoke to a Cove representative multiple times and they told us all we had to do was sign up for services and get a new “home base”. Well we did that and after two days of talking to them trying to connect cameras that came with the house they informed us on by the way you can’t transfer those just like the rest of their over inflated products. The only way to connect cameras is to purchase new cameras. Absolute trash and pyramid scheme. Ripping all of it out of the house this weekend and going with a more user friendly and helpful security system. If anyone asks me I’d never recommend this product and if yo are buying a home that has it and they say security system is staying tell them to rip it out. Leaving it is not a value add to the home. Surprised a company like this can even be in business still.

I had Cove less than two weeks. I did the install the way they said, the cameras gave me a lot of trouble and app kept crashing. When everything finally connected, the cameras continued going off all night. The batteries died within hours. The solar would not charge. I called in for help. I was hung up on the first time. The second time the agent was very good and gave me some troubleshooting ideas. However, the cameras continued behaving in the same fashion. I called in a third time and was berated with excuses about why it was my fault. The person kept having to talk to a supervisor, and then wanted my personal login and personal password to view the pictures allegedly taken by the cameras. The person then transferred me to cancel the service.

The person at cancellations was even worse. He gave me the same script excuses about why this was my problem and how they were the best. I had to raise my voice just to get the cancellation done and tell them to get out of my house. It only took them two weeks to show. They cannot be trusted, and don't care about anything except what their script tells them to say. This service is dishonest and with the amount of trouble I had, how do I know if an alarm goes off that they will even waste their time calling? I suspect they probably won't call. At least they sent me a shipping label for all of their equipment, hopefully that one is honest, and I don't have to pay for it. I recommend everybody think twice about the service and their attitude. It only took me two weeks to lose trust in this company, it may only take two seconds for someone to create trouble at my home and Cove most likely won't care.

I purchased $1,600 worth of equipment and initially was satisfied with the helpful set up provided by their customer service. I noticed that my bill quickly jumped from 19.99 + tax to their 29.99 plan without my consent. Well I assumed they had a price change. Then it jumped an additional $3/month apparently because I was using a debit card, which I had been using since signing up...what?? they just decided to add a convenience fee without notifying customers.

Well now comes the "fun" part. My debit card was compromised on Thursday. I called my bank and canceled the card Friday morning first thing. On Saturday, ONE DAY after the bill was due to be paid and did not go through (on the compromised card) Cove texted me, great I will take care of that Monday after I pick up my new card. Oh wait they also emailed me and throughout the day on Saturday (again ONE DAY after the bill was not paid) they called me FOUR times!! Even debt collectors for actual debts cannot call 4 times in a day. I was busy and ignored the first 2 calls from Cove. I talked to the third saying I would take care of it Monday when I got my new card but when they called me yet AGAIN, well the last caller got my entire wrath.

So now after spending 30+ minutes with a "supervisor" they said they would credit me for a month and gave me a LESS than $3 credit. So I called back to the billing department and 14 minutes later it was "fixed" and I did get a full months credit. I also would like to ask when their call center was outsourced to outside of the US? IYKYK.

I bought a $700+ system earlier this year. I had multiple issues:
      1) The video doorbell was not compatible with my current chimes. The cove doorbell was hooked up by the “hello tech” person they recommend, and it “fried” my existing chimes.
      2) Door sensors broke after less than 1 month.
      3) Security cameras which were supposed to be solar did not charge from the sunlight appropriate. Cameras were foggy most of the time unless I wiped them off frequently.
      4) After I had enough of this frustration, I contacted Cove and asked them to take the system back. They assigned a person to help me. I tried the various requests they put forth to improve my systems. It didn’t significantly improve functionality.

      5) I took all the cameras and sensors down, repackaged them and sent them back to Cove. 2 months later, still no reimbursement. Hence, be very skeptical of the satisfaction or money-back guarantee.

      Overall, very disappointing!

We moved from Vivint because of the absurd cost, but this wasn't the answer. The doorbell cam has instructions and hardware for a mechanical chime, but isn't supported per cs (requires a firmware update tbd); side note, the camera is chunky with average resolution. You have to use their chime and run on battery. I ate that after two rounds with support; not the end of the world. Now let's talk about the outdoor cameras. They appear to be old refurbished eufy cams that work 5% of the time. I repositioned them several times to get ONE of 3 to work effectively (motion detection is the same as a Blink cam - sensor break). I spoke to cs and they are replacing one cam because the motion sensor (confirmed on their end) that doesn't work. That's fine, but now when using the touch pad, the cameras don't load and look like a pixel mess.

After talking to support AGAIN, they needed a firmware update. The app bugs out and force closes when you try to update the cameras!!!! There is NO way to update the firmware other than Cove pushing it, which STILL didn't work. Their reps are super nice, but this company has some issues to work out, a lot of them (feels like a college student running used equipment of a garage). I could put something together from Amazon without the touchpad for way less and have it work. To note, internet connectivity is not the issue. We have a strong mesh network and even Cove confirmed the signals were fine.

Where I am today; 1 of 3 outdoor cams working, a smoke alarm that came with dead batteries and can't register, 4hrs of customer support, and half of this nonsense still in the box ready to ship back. Also forgot to mention the touchpad didn't work out of the box. I spent 2hrs with cs (who are awesome) hard resetting it several times to connect. We had high hopes based on reviews, but this feels like we got someone's used system.

We have had Cove for about 4 or 5 years. We like the cost and not having a contract, but we have had issues with poor quality equipment that has caused multiple false alarms. We paid extra for the professional install, so it has nothing to do with how it was installed. The big issue however is that we have the Plus Program which provides lifetime warranties on equipment. This summer our CO2 sensor failed. It took two months but Cove sent us a new one. It was deficient out of the box. We had the fire department break down our fence trying to get into our home. So we waited another four months for another. Eventually we were told that the new equipment they were replacing with would not work with our panel. We asked for the panel replacement and the new CO2 sensors that would work together - were offered a just a discount.

We reminded Cove that we had the plan that provided lifetime warranties on everything but the cameras. It was like they wouldn't even listen - kept offering a discount instead. Our equipment is deficient, you replaced with equipment that won't work with the panel, so we need the panel. This should be covered as the plan states. While dealing with this a glass break alarm failed and sent the cops to our home. It is never ending and Cove doesn't abide by their own plan. This is serious stuff - when you think you have fire, CO2, and water protection, but Cove has provided a deficient product - lives are at stake and personal property is at stake. Cove acts like it is no big deal - of course we are dealing with agents halfway across the world. Next stop is the Better Business Bureau.

After moving into my new shop, I decided it was necessary to install a security system to protect my property. After watching several reviews and doing my research, I chose Cove and signed up in November 2025, purchasing a package along with additional fobs for quick access since multiple people use the building. Unfortunately, as of March 2026, the fobs still do not work. Since installation, I’ve experienced ongoing issues with the system and have made multiple attempts to resolve them, only to be repeatedly disappointed.

The doorbell camera requires a separate base in order to record, which was not clearly communicated upfront. The cameras require SD cards with limited storage capacity, and several of the cameras purchased directly from Cove work intermittently. For a security system, reliability should not be optional. Today, when I attempted to cancel my membership, I was met with repeated attempts to persuade me to stay rather than a straightforward cancellation process. I made it clear multiple times that I was dissatisfied and had already replaced the system with another provider. Despite that, I continued to receive resistance rather than assistance.

To make matters worse, cancellation is not automatic. There is a cancellation fee that will be charged within a few days, and the language used during the process felt ambiguous and unnecessarily confusing. Overall, I am extremely unhappy with my experience. There is much more I could share, but the ongoing technical issues, poor customer service, and complicated cancellation process speak for themselves. I would strongly recommend choosing a more established and proven security provider.

Called several times the company stubbornly refused to overnight shipment of the cable. Waited about 15 days and when part arrived I was ready for setup but.... I needed to exchange parts due technical limitations. The company offered technical coverage at a $129 fee. I accepted but it turned that the fee was a basic fee plus all additional totaling $600.

Calling again, the representative was mumbling and gave a general impression of not be knowledgeable. Calling several times all the reps have something missing.... in translation. The boss Nick tried to obviate but a 4 weeks parcel still partial opened and lying in the living room was not looking good. The supervisor offered none then to return the equipment and again she showed lack of knowledge and poor quality sales skills.

Trying to mitigate again, and trying to save the deal I offered few options promptly rejected by the supervisor. At week 4 and 1/2 the system was still in the package! Giving a last try and seeming that the reps were barricading instead to offer solutions and trying to save for one more time the deal I finally gave up and ask for refund. I do not recommend Cove. It gave me the impression to be a junior company in the Industry and my concern was if they are so "primitive" in sales what do you expect when they have to deliver services such as monitoring or product replacement and support? 29$ a month could be appealing however, on the other hand could be very dangerous.

I’ve used Cove’s DIY system for years, with a Simple Panel and multiple sensors: 5 door sensors, 4 glass break sensors, 8 flood sensors, 2 carbon monoxide sensors, and a fire sensor. The system historically provided supervision and low battery warnings reliably. Over time, after replacing some batteries, the panel stopped recognizing some sensors. After multiple conversations, Cove finally confirmed the Simple Panel had reached the end of its life and shipped a replacement. Setting up the new panel requires reconnecting every sensor after multiple calls.

About six months later, I returned from a two-week vacation to find that the alarm did not sound, even though the panel still displayed “Alarm Away.” Testing confirmed that doors could be opened with the alarm active and no alerts were triggered. The panel never indicated any loss of supervision or low battery issues.

When I contacted Cove, initial explanations blamed metal doors or sensor installation issues, despite the system working for years. Eventually, they told me the sensors had reached their end of life — a fact I had never been informed about in prior communications. I requested the panel and sensors be checked, but they indicated that as a DIY system, they cannot do so. I no longer have confidence in this system. Users should be aware that both panels and sensors have end-of-life issues that may prevent alarms from functioning, and these risks may not be clearly communicated by Cove.

March 2025 I stopped having Xfinity Home Security. I switched to Cove with the Deluxe Monitoring plan. I have been pleased with the system and installed it myself. I have a technical background so the install was very easy. However I have a major complaint. It does not work with Google Home and Alexa. They are totally aware of this issue, yet they still advertise that it does work. To make matters worse they even publish troubleshooting tips that do not work. If it did as advertised i would give it 5 stars. I am overall happy with the alarm system but it should work as advertised. Still much better than Xfinity.

Lots of false alarms. Very difficult to get them to help with fixing the equipment and if you want to cancel, you can never get a hold of anyone. Took me several phone calls to reach anyone to be cancel and when I thought it was cancelled, there were months of charges they refused to refund. Terrible company.

Crooks. Called last year to cancel one of my accounts. Was assured "services had been terminated" and recently discovered a year later that they were still charging for my service. Of course, they won't let me cancel without paying off the balance. They've been sending me text messages that if I call in they'll offer a 50% off discount my balance. I tried to use that, and the support team acted like they had never even heard of it. Tried sending screenshots of it, they said they can't see it in their email. I ask to cancel all my remaining services and they have to send me to their "account services team" who then try to sweet talk me into not cancelling and offer $3 off my current service. Don't use them.

I order equipment on 9/3 and called many times asking when I would receive my order. I was promised they would expedite the order and would receive by 9/19. I finally gave up and cancelled my order on 9/21 and received confirmation email that I would receive my refund in 3-5 business days. Instead, I received the package on 9/25 and I had to return package. I returned it and they received it on 10/3. I then call the 10/7 to check on the status of my refund and the rep said she would process the refund. So, if I didn’t call they were not going to process my refund?? They then stated it would be 5-10 business days before I see my money, but a previous email states it takes 3-5 business days. I have probably made a total of 20 calls to this company and have been told lies upon lies. Save yourself time and money and DO NOT do business with Cove!!

When we purchased our system, we had the professional install it. I feel he did a terrible job. He did not share anything with me. He put our system on the Eufy app and the Alua app. Our cameras were always dropping. I contacted Cove support five times in the last four weeks. They told me the person who installed it should have put it on the Cove app. Cove support instructed me to delete the Eufy app and the Alua app and put our system on the Cove app. I did that and ever since we have had nothing but problems. On the Cove app, we never receive any notifications of any event. Most of the time, we can't even see the cameras. Tonight I contacted support and did a chat, I waited over thirty minutes, I got tired of waiting and disconnected from the chat. Our system has been trying to connect to our internet for over four hours. I reset both devices with no results.

I again contacted Cove support. I was in the process of doing a couple things the support instructed me to do. She told me to take my time, I was only gone about three minutes and she disconnected me and sent instructions to do several things, which none were what I was having problems with. Of all the support staff I have dealt with, nobody could tell me why I wasn't getting notifications from the Cove app. I reinstalled the Eufy app and we started receiving notifications when events happened, but today the system went offline and have not been able to get back online. I do not recommend Cove.

Oh man back when I got with Cove it was great, you selected your options (number of sensors, panels, cameras) ordered it and it came with easy to use instructions to set up yourself. The price was also competitive and they would accrue dollars for equipment upgrades that you could use over time. The things that really pissed me off though is that they never called you when their system was down or power was out to your devices - they only ever called you about billing. Additionally they shifted their customer support from US based to offshore. This overall represents a significant risk profile increase as offshore organizations pay less (which is good for a company's labor costs) but makes them far more susceptible to insider threats and external actor penetration. Overall I really just can't recommend this company and its significant slide from its original great product.

The person who installed the system did a poor job and used completely wrong apps. He did not instruct me on how to use. After installation, I have had to re-add the cameras four different times. I was told once the cameras were installed I would not have to add to my wife's phone. Once she signed in the cameras would be there. Wrong, that is not true. I have contacted Cove support four times and each time I get a different answer. I do not recommend.

Ordered a home security system from Cove, and it would not work at all. After several tech support tries, they sent me their new “upgraded” system. I was never able to activate the system. However, I discovered that I have been paying for monthly billing for over 1.5 years on a system that has never been activated. (partially our fault since we did have another Cove system for our business – didn’t notice that we were getting billed twice until it was too late). The response from Cove’s cancellation department was - sorry, we are keeping your money since we sent you the new system. Regardless of the fact it had never been activated. The best they would do is lower my monthly bill to $19/month. I don’t think so! Cancelled both business and this account today - STAY AWAY FROM COVE!

STAY AWAY!!!! With the limited space here to write this review, there isn't nearly the amount to space to tell you all the shortcomings, ineptitude, inadequacies, and downright sophomoric character of this company. At every turn, I have been surprised, at best, and, frustrated as hell, at worst, with Cove. I only wish I hadn't sunk so much money into this stupid, wonky, janky, childish system run by and manned with people who, for the very most part, have no idea what they're doing. It's just a garbage show all around. If there was a way to speak to each and every person considering getting this service, I would implore all of you to run... Run away fast!

I rarely leave reviews, but my experience with Cove has been nothing short of a nightmare. When I first spoke to their team, I was told I could use the system without monitoring, but that I wouldn’t be able to connect cameras to the touchpad. Fine. I decided to buy the system online anyway — only to be automatically put on their most expensive monitoring plan without my consent.

When I called to downgrade to the basic plan, I was assured I would still have camera access through the app. Meanwhile, my equipment arrived missing a critical cable for the touchpad. I was told the cable would take 10 days to arrive, but not to worry because “everything would work through the app.” Two weeks later, the cable arrived. After drilling holes throughout my house and attempting to connect the cameras, I found out the truth: camera integration only works on their $50/month plan. This was never disclosed upfront. Their website is vague, and even the side-by-side comparison chart only says “camera support,” which is misleading at best.

Over the course of this ordeal, I spoke with multiple support reps and got completely different answers. Their customer service is a joke. It felt like nobody knew what was going on — as if everyone was on their first day of training and reading from a script. I talked to multiple reps (half of them seemed to be named Maria) and not one could give me a straight answer.

Do not trust the glowing reviews from YouTubers and influencers — those are paid promotions and don’t reflect the reality. The truth is: Cove misleads customers, hides key details, and their support team is completely unprepared to help. I am now cancelling everything. This has been frustrating, misleading, and expensive. If you value your time, money, and sanity, stay far away from this company.

Cove or not to Cove? Not for me, again. The system worked fine for about two years, but when it started to fail, so did customer service. I received over 100 email notifications about malfunction. After trying to fix it with their non-U.S. Based non-English speaking support and no calls as requested from domestic support, I gave up and closed the account. I recycled the components, and the best thing about my experience was sharing the magnets from the contacts with my grandson. I write this after reading a text begging me to come back. Shameful

It was a decent home security option for me however, after about 2 years, my control panel doesn’t operate as intended. There are no options to update so it continues to malfunction. I’ve reached out to the company on several instances and no solutions or help. My alarm will randomly go off on stay mode despite no sensors being tampered with. I feel there are better security options available with similar pricing.
