I’ve had TotalProtect for years and never had a problem submitting a claim. Although I can do it online, I’m kind of still old-fashioned and would like to talk to somebody, so I usually call personally and they’ve always been helpful. Technicians have always been great. This last experience, it was freezing cold when my furnace was acting up and I called them that night. They got me connected to the company and they called me the next day, and came right out. I know they probably get a lot of furnace calls around this time of the year, but that didn’t cause any delay in my service.

I've heard about TotalProtect years ago from a co-worker. It had a better deductible and they covered more appliances than others so I went with them. They had good people too. The customer service rep was really nice; walked me through everything I needed to do. Also, their technicians were very professional. They called me when they were on their way so I didn't have to sit there and wait for hours and when they got here, they didn't drag off the work. I'm happy to note that their work on my recent claim look like it was a way better job than what was done for my sink before.

They say HMS Home Warranty is supposed to be pretty good so I went with the experts. There was one situation though where they didn't tell me or explain things to me until the technician came out and said, "They should have asked you: Was it inside the home or outside the home?" Because he said it would save him a trip and I wouldn't have to pay $50 for him just to tell me the problem was inside as opposed to outside, because if it was outside, they said they weren't responsible for it. They never asked that question. Everything else has been fine other than that. All the technicians that have been out so far have been actually great. I would say it was a very good job. I felt it was completed properly.

When I submit a claim, no one ever calls me back. I always have to call them. One incident, I was out of hot water for almost two weeks and another week right behind that. Their customer service is terrible. The technicians that came out, though, were excellent. They knew exactly what they were doing. I got hot water and I got heat. So everything is working fine.

I would recommend TotalProtect Home Warranty. I had a problem with my furnace and called TotalProtect. They gave me another number, somebody to call. I called that number. They came out, sized up the problem and took care of the situation. They're reasonably on time and knew what they were doing.

I've had HMS Home Warranty since I bought my house in '96. The owner that sold us the house paid for the first year, and we've just been renewing it every year. The last claim I've submitted was faster than ever. I called and talked to the courteous claims lady rep, and she filled out all the forms to make the claim. Three days later they had a technician from Sears out here who quickly fixed the problem - he was a nice guy who knew what he was doing. I feel like the repair was done well and that it will last. I like it.

I have a recirculating pump on the water heater and they installed against the drywall and the whole house vibrates when it's running. I'm not too happy with the way it was installed. I'm not sure that it was correct. In other words, there's no water in it until there is a back flow, a back flush, but they installed mine hanging down so it stands to reason it's already filled up with water as far as I can see. It looks jerry-rigged to me. Also, I got charged for an expansion tank and I'm checking with the Massachusetts and southern other states that require an expansion tank, they show it pointing up. They set it outside and called a friend of theirs who specialize in selling water tanks.
I called the plumber at Sin City, the receptionist was on home leave, we missed it. I got to think if they missed me, they must have missed everybody else. On top of that, they're charging me $6 to haul the water tank away, which I assumed they would but no so I'm working on it right now. I'm not sure whether I'm going to go to the state inspector. I was recommended. It's been over a month now and I think $140 for an inspection from the City. I called the City yesterday, they have no word on it but they promised me that they would have an inspector out here shortly so I'm going to give them another week before calling the inspector again. According to the City, they should've applied for a permit when they put the water heater in and they didn't. It has usually been very good until this moment. I won't let them come in again, that's for sure.

When I bought my house, the seller provided a year of HMS. He bought it for a year for me and I liked HMS so I renewed for the last five years. The kind of businesses they hire are a little sketchy though. The first company they contacted didn't respond in about six hours. So I called HMS back and they got another company. HMS took care of me but the company that they were working with did not. The problem eventually got fixed the next day -- we got through it and it was okay.

Submitting a claim is not hard. You just dial in and either use the automation part of it or you may get a live person. The claims rep has always been professional. Their technicians were excellent. I'm satisfied but I really wish that TotalProtect offers something that covers everything. There are exemptions and that's kind of frustrating. I'd rather pay a little bit more but have a package that covers everything.

I've always been pleased with HMS, from claims submission to the technicians that come to service our appliance. But there's a couple of contractors that I used that I had trouble with. I reported and explained it to HMS and they never came back and we never used them again. I would definitely recommend HMS because I felt like they resolved the issue and it moved on. When I said, "It's not working. It never was resolved regarding this issue," HMS took my feedback and gave me someone else. We've been very happy with the quality of the work that was performed. Everything has been good and fine so I would certainly recommend HMS, especially if you have older appliances or things that need repair. We stuck with HMS because one of the contractors said, "You're going to have some issues with the house later on." So we kept renewing with HMS and it's paid off every year.

We've only had the house for four months and have submitted claims with HMS around three times now. The warranty came with the contract when I bought my house, we just kind of inherited it, but because they’re doing a great job when our year’s up we’re thinking about getting it on our own. We’re going to re-up it ourselves to another eight months. That’s how much we liked it. My wife likes it too which is even incredible! It’s been great. In fact I’ve had the contractor I hired to fix the ceiling come back and paint part of my house too just on my own.
I’ve had no problem at all with them. Every time we submit a claim, they appear right on time. The people they send out were very courteous too. One guy that came out to look at our air conditioner found there was actually nothing wrong with it so he just charged me $60 for the service call rather than charging it to the contract.

On one of my claims to HMS, the process was a little shaky. I had an issue with my heat. The repairman came out to work on it but I had to call back the next day since it was not working. The repairman said I didn’t need to pay so I called and asked the agent for a new claim number and was told I had to pay for another claim. We went back and forth for two days because they say it was a different issue but it wasn’t. Finally, the supervisor called and I was told by the repair guy that I didn’t have to pay again. I think the repairman called HMS to clear things up for me because I haven’t heard anything else about it. TotalProtect has been excellent and I’ve always had immediate service. Usually the technicians have been good although on rare occasions, one or two were sloppy in their work. I don’t have to have any call backs and have been very satisfied with it. The only thing that TotalProtect was not able to do was to get itself put on my new mortgage. In the past, I had always paid them monthly premium through my escrow account on my mortgages but for whatever reason, when I refinanced, TotalProtect and the bank couldn’t talk to each other. TotalProtect was recommended by Wells Fargo. I trust my them so I went with it. I've used them from plumbing to microwave repair to electrical. Once you call them for an issue, they will give you a person who is going to resolve it, and give you the claim number. You then pay the $75 minimum payment. Technicians are responsive, timely, courteous, and professional. Any work I haven't had to do I would just call them to return and/or to redo the job. If the job is done right the first time, they explain to you the issue once it is identified. They take the problematic item apart, brief you on what the problems are, and tell you what it would take to fix it. If they don't have the needed part with them, they'll go pick it up and come back to finish the repair. Then I give them a check and away they go, and they leave me a happy, happy customer.

Since I bought the house I've always had a home warranty. I went with TotalProtect as it came through Bank of America. I have called the representatives a couple of times to place claims or change things and they're cordial when they answer the phone. Most of the times they are able to take care of placing the claim or making appointments for me during the call.
The technicians have also been good. The only problem is in making appointments with them. Sometimes it takes weeks before they can give me an appointment. If you need something taken care of within the next day and you call the people that are supposed to do the service, they say they can't come until a week later. If I have a problem with my A/C, there's a lot of other providers who can do 24 hours service and I can get it fixed within a day. But to go through a home insurance company, the choices are so limited and many of them do not offer that 24/7 service. Nevertheless, I’ve been happy with the service they are providing so far.

The technicians have been very good except for one plumbing issue. We needed some plumbing done for a problem with the drain and the plumber was unable to show up for three to four days, and that doesn’t work too long with drains. I don't have any problems with HMS. It's just the technicians that they sent out. They don't like to listen to what the customer is telling them. I know my unit. I've been in my house for 13 years and I had prime example. Before I called HMS, I had my unit serviced and cleaned before the winter came in. Prior to that, I had the people that gave the service to come back out and they described to me that I need certain parts. They wanted to take an extremely a lot of money. So I said I'll pay for the extra service that I had to pay to have them to come back out.
I called HMS and they sent someone out. I was explaining to the guy what I had done. He tells me, "Well, no, that's not the issue. This is the issue." I said," Sir, I just had service done and they pointed to me exactly what the problem was, okay?" He didn't fix that but fixed the motor instead. He said "The motor was going bad, okay?"
Apparently not only the motor is working but I'm still having the same problems that I told them prior to the other service people I had. It had a loud noise without even comparing my noise on my unit with my neighbor next to me and it takes a long time for my unit to cut off. It goes into auxiliary which makes my bill go extremely high. I know we had cold weather but I never seen this happened long as I've been in my house.

We had a few claims in the first year and I was satisfied with HMS Home Warranty's service. Everything has been great except for one situation where they weren't able to get anybody out that night, so then I had to contact my own provider, and then I had to submit receipts but that seemed to be a little bit of a hassle, and it took a while to finally get my money back because they lost the receipts I submitted. But other than that, whenever I've had to use the ones that they have provided, it's been great. The technicians that came to service our appliance were really friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable and got done what needed to get done. I'm keeping them going forward.

When I bought the house, I was given a choice between keeping the appliances or they would buy the house warranty for the first year. My friend who is in real estate advised me to get the warranty instead. In the last nine years that I've had them, I used HMS Home warranty a couple of times and never had a problem. There was one time that the technician did not show up on an emergency plumbing repair but other than that they've always shown up, always got the top gun and have been pleasant. I've had a good experience with TotalProtect. Although the last time that we filed a claim, our stove was broken and they sent out a GE guy and he didn't even look at the stove. I just told him what it was doing and he says "Oh, okay." He looked at the stove long enough to get the model number and he left. He said we have to order the part so I said okay. It was a week or a week and a half. The part came in, he changed the part and left. Within 10-15 minutes, the stove was doing the same thing it was doing before. So I called back and then they sent somebody, then they called GE and GE couldn't come back for another week and I said "I've already been out without my stove for two weeks now and that will be like a whole month."
So they sent out somebody else from another company and he came out. He looked at the stove and he says "Well, it's not what the first guy says. It's this," and it was just an element that he could replace right then. He had to order the right part because he didn't have it, but that only took a day or two and he had me up and running in four days from the time he came and got it. So I was very happy with the second guy, but I was not happy with the first one. TotalProtect was really good to come right back and help and send me somebody else out that could help, which was nice. It's just the first guy that I was not happy with.

Our house is 135 years old so it's got some other problems with it but the HMS has taken care of it so far. I've submitted three claims so far. One time they didn't think that it fell into the realm of what was being covered, and I said it's part of the heating system. They finally said that they'll have a contractor call us from a company that's in our area. The contractor came out and I had to pay him $100 deductible and they took care of it. And this happened on a couple of occasions.
Two out of the three claims we submitted were good. One of the claims, they took out a zone valve in my heating system so it's broken and if we replaced it, it's gonna be timed down and it's cold out that time. So I told them to circumvent it or go around it. They took it out and now my heating in that section of the house is screwed up. They shouldn't have done that and should have just replaced it. Partially, it was my fault but some people said these are particularly touchy and if they're not versed in them, they shouldn't be screwing around with them. I don't want to take the time to go through qualifying them and ask if they have been versed in the different types of zone heating that's available, and the aquastat measurements for your thermostat, or figuring it so that it goes on right and goes off. But overall, they've lived up to what I was told. With any warranty system, there's always bottom lines that are hard to reach.

We had HMS for a year written into the contract when we bought our home and it's been great so far. When we moved in we had several different things that we had to get fixed within the first month. They were breaking one after another so we've used it three times now. I like filing the claims online because I think it makes it faster and was more streamlined compared to doing it over the phone. Their claims representatives are always informative and get back to us in a timely manner, which is good.
Every contractor that's been sent out here has been great. However one time, I had my dryer fixed and it took about a week to get somebody out here. And it was in the middle of the winter, with a lot of kids in the house. We don't have a laundromat nearby so it was a little crazy that I was already thinking about buying a dryer because it's taking so long. But the work's been high quality and the technicians were efficient and courteous so I couldn't ask for a better quality of people.

The plumber who did our water heater was great. I'm very happy. As for the stove, it works fine now but the first two people either didn't show up, didn't call or they had showed up but didn't know what they were doing. My wife called back and finally got Sears to come out. They saw the problem immediately. It was just a simple element and they were able to repair it. It's been easy to file a claim with HMS. I've talked to their representative over the phone once or twice and they were knowledgeable and friendly, and it was relatively painless. The technicians they sent out were good. They were courteous, explained thoroughly and cleaned up after themselves. There was one that I wasn't super excited with the results I got. It was for the plumbing but other than that, they all fixed what they said they were going to fix.
The only thing I would complain about was when my heat went out last year when it was really cold and it took a long time to get it fixed. It's no fault of the person fixing it, but they didn't just replace the unit. They thought "Well, it could be this so let's try that. It could be this, let's try that." And so I ended up without heat for about a week. That was not really good. Luckily, I had gas logs and was able to use that. Fortunately it is fixed now. TotalProtect was good once we got on the same sheet. I have a home and things do fail, and they were recommended by the mortgage company. Once I got them on the understanding that my hot water heater is not working and I can't take a lot of time for them to research when the plumber (who is, by the way, on their list of approved plumbers) says he can provide something, the cycle time to get this done went from seven to ten business days to a day and a half. Which is good because...have you ever tried to take a cold shower or cold bath? It's not fun, right? So finally when we got on the same sheet in understanding the urgency, it got elevated to a faster pace which is what has to happen.
I understand the hierarchy...I understand the paperwork. But when people are down and out, they can't wait that many days for solutions. They are there to react, but are sometimes slow to react...meaning, they are there for me to call, but the response time has got to be improved. I live in a house that was built in 1988 and there are some parts that have been replaced and some not, so TotalProtect may hear from me again at some point. The technician who came to service our water heater was great though.

I like them enough that I signed an agreement, an annual inspection for them to come out and do the maintenance on my air conditioning and heating unit. Two of the technicians were friendly, they were customer-oriented and they encouraged me to get the maintenance agreement through the company.
But when I filed a claim for my heater, my problem wasn't solved until the third technician came out. It took almost two months to get the heat established again in my house. The first technician came in and spent some time here and thought the problem was analyzed correctly. Somehow the model and serial numbers were transposed, so it took a week or so. I had to call them back to know what was going on. Another technician came out and replaced the part that the first technician said was defective but that wasn't the problem. Then the third technician came out, analyzed the problem, knew what the part was that had to be replaced, replaced it, and the problem was resolved.

The contractor said he couldn't fix the problem and something was broken. It was confusing as it does not qualify for any kind of replacement because it’s just loud and is still working. It was just a very old unit but they did what they could. The technician was prompt and and he made some suggestions, and told me how much a replacement of the unit would be installed. I'm just frustrated that it can't be fixed without me actually replacing the unit myself at my own expense. But since it was an unusual situation I understand. The technician that came over was knowledgeable and courteous but we were surprised that he was able to fix our unit with just a part.
I’m not fully satisfied that the part was gonna fix the problem because the dryer is an older unit. I also think he felt obligated to fix the dryer, even though he couldn’t really say the repair was gonna be a long-term fix. If it was not a long-term fix and we continue to have problems three months down the road, we’re gonna have to call again, say that it’s not working adequately, and then pay another $100 deductible. I don’t think that should be right and I wouldn’t be very happy about it. I am concerned about the service quality being adequate because there’s no real warranty for the item used for an extended period of time.

The TotalProtect covered all of the systems and appliances within the house. Other home warranties, you had to buy separate warranties for your heating system, your cooling system, etc. So it just seemed like TotalProtect had a broader span of coverage and a good price.
We have had an issue or two in the past with some of the service reps. In one case, it was a hot water heater that was draining all over the floor. The service rep indicated that they will send someone within 24 hours and I said, "Hey, I got water all over my floor. What do you mean by 24 hours to get somebody out?" In order to get that emergency situation taken care of, we used our own plumber and then it wasn't covered because we didn't use their plumber. In that case, when you got a water heater that's draining water all over your floor, there is no way to stop this. This is not just a basement -- we're on a slab here, all the floors are finished, etc. We needed help in a hurry. So in that sense we weren't really happy.
For the latest one, our furnace was making a very loud grinding noise, and so I called TotalProtect and the service rep said, "Here's the number. Call these people. They'll come out but if it is not a failure of the unit then it's not covered." It's kind of that warning that if it's not a failure, then it's not covered when I thought it seemed to be perfectly obvious that something was failing. Otherwise, I wouldn't be getting this very loud grinding sound. I wasn't real happy with the attitude of the claims rep. That proviso could have been explained a little more gently. Then they called the rep. This was about 9 o'clock in the morning. We got an appointment with the rep for some time after 12 o'clock noon. It was same day service so that was fine.
I then got a callback from the rep's office saying he was finishing up his job and could he come early and I said, "Sure, that's great." An hour after I called, he was knocking on the door and this guy walks in the house, totally professional with some little booties over his shoes because it was snowing outside, and diagnosed the problem, located the part, went and got the part and the furnace was back up and running by 12:30. So I was extremely happy with the service rep. That has not been the case with all of their service reps in the past. If it's an appliance issue, we specifically ask for Sears Repair because we know they deal with Sears and they have a very prompt, professional service group, but some of the small, independent companies are real sketchy. Thankfully that's in the past. This latest guy was fantastic.

The last time a technician came, he reset the thermostat that was off in my dryer. This time, the guy replaced it, which needed to be done the last time. Everything was fine on my end, but it would have saved TotalProtect money and time if the guy replaced it the first time. But everything was excellent with everybody. They were wonderful to me.

We bought a house that had HMS Home Warranty on it. I liked the way they handled the problems we had. They’re usually very expensive but it’s actually worth the risk. When I had a claim for my garage door, the guy that they sent from West Virginia Door was very knowledgeable and knew exactly what he was doing and what was wrong. He had it fixed within a couple of hours and did an excellent job. The claims representative was very good and got right on it. She got them notified, called me and made an appointment. I thought it was pretty decent that I only had to pay $50 and they take care of the rest, so I’m very satisfied with it.

To make sure all the maintenance of my appliances, plumbing, everything in the household is taken care of, I decided to get TotalProtect. My sister gave me their number and I have used them for 3 years. My recent claim was real fast because I know I had one already that I had issued. The first one was my garbage disposal, which they came right away. Then I had my last maintenance for my plumbing last month and they found a couple of things here that needed to be repaired. They came right away so I'm very pleased. They're excellent and I've been trying to recommend them.

I don't have a problem with TotalProtect, not per se; I've been with them for about five or six years and everybody's usually nice and polite and right on point. But I have a problem with the people that they have contracts with. I had a garbage disposal situation. I needed a new one. TotalProtect found somebody and made the appointment but after that, I don't know if they have any control over what happens once they make the appointment and the person is supposed to come out, and they give you the phone number.
I was very, very disappointed with the company they sent, Alliance Plumbing. The man was supposed to do my garbage disposal. We set a time. He never came. That was in January. I told them that I was out of school that day, so could they come? This man never showed up, never called. The next day which was a regular day, I called the company, and I told the secretary that the person never showed up, and she said, "We'll make sure." So later on that week, they did come. I might have been last on the list cause it was at night when he came. But that was the most unpleasant experience that I've had. I guess if they get enough complaints, they'll stop using those companies.
Still, I'm happy that I have TotalProtect because my husband is in a nursing home with a terminal illness, my son lives in California, I don't have a man here to do certain things. Like Saturday morning, I turn the jets on in my Whirlpool just to clean out the lines, and then I turned it off and I didn't have any hot water. But I found out since then and I called TotalProtect. They hooked me up with someone that was supposed to get back with me today. But as it turned out, I continued to call around and talk to people. And someone told me that I probably had an air pocket in the line, and just wait a while. And it worked. Later, my water became hot so I guess that bubble had to dissolve itself. So I called TotalProtect this morning and cancelled the claim, and that was that.
I'm pleased with TotalProtect. When you're in a home, things break down all the time so I have to have somebody that I can rely on that knows what they're doing, to come out and help me with the different things. I would definitely recommend TotalProtect to someone, especially in my position.

The work they did was a little bit questionable because I called regarding an issue with my HVAC and water heater and they assigned a technician that basically works on appliances to come out but then can't fix both. The attempt was unsuccessful for both. I had to call back to ask for a plumber and then ask for an HVAC specialist who both then fixed the problems. They were reasonably incompetent but for a home warranty carrier, I've been satisfied.

The previous owner of my condo had the HMS, so I just picked it up. When submitting a claim on my heater, I called the 800 number and they took care of it. had some questions and the service technician came out and shared a few things with me. He said I didn't have a heat exchanger which I didn't know if I had it or not. He gave me some pointers -- what I should do, when to change filters. So it was a pretty good experience. He told me that the furnace was like a year and a half old...he said I shouldn't have any problems with that. So, I was pretty pleased with it. He was friendly and on time. Apparently, the technician called and said that this address was out of his jurisdiction. I called the office and told them. And I guess they gave me extra service delivery charge. But he went ahead and came to the address even though it was out of his location...which was good. It was kind of gratifying because he took care of what I needed to hear.

Submitting my claim to TotalProtect was easy to take care of. The problem was getting the plumber to come out and fix my plumbing. I called the plumbers, set up an appointment and they didn't show up. Called them again, they didn't show up, and they said, "Well we didn't confirm it." I said, "Well, you said this time and I said fine." I had to go out of town so I just put a bucket underneath the leak, and waited until I got back. The third time, I waited two weeks. I finally called them again and got them to come out. They did the job fine once they got there. I was busy and didn't call TotalProtect regarding this issue. I'm not angry with them as I should have called them back. But the last two times I've used it have been very good.

I have encountered several occasions of dissatisfaction with the service providers and made them all k own to customer service. I purchased a policy that was supposed to cover all products offered and also including any unknown preexisting conditions. This not only was more expensive but the service fee was higher than I was accustomed to. I was happy and comfortable with the previous home warranty company I was with. It was upon the recommendation of a dear friend who had this provider that convinced me to switch when my other policy was up for renewal. From that day to this I have been disappointed with the service providers. They appear to be second handed companies or small privately owned companies I never heard of or seen around town which is fine if they were excellent. I had complaints about service with each one and had to request them not send a particular company again. Then I called to have services stopped due to hardship event in my life and they all tried to pacify me and not be straight forward with me that I was locked into a contract. I was lead to believe that I was getting a free month to help me and then I would be let out of the contract if I still saw I could not recover from my loss of income. Today I called to let them know I was not going to be able to financially continue now I'm told I am locked into this and I was supposed to have received two $25.00 gift cards that I never received. I will say to others do your home work, always read the fine print for yourself and not what they say or even a friend tells you. The customer service person told me if I was to cancel today I would still be billed for the service and not be covered for any conditions! I'm sorry but I will not be recommending Total Protect for as home warranty service. When my contract is up I will not be renewing.

I have been a Total Protect Client since 2005, I have not had any problem, as far as I can recall, I've had only minor claims, all I believe were covered by the $75 deductible. That is until Tuesday Fe 10, 2015.That morning while getting ready to be at work at 4:00am, my water heater died. when I got to work, I called Total Protect to file a claim. The representative was helpful and got the info, she called the3 plumbing company and left a message since the weren't open yet and called me back to let me know what was happening. She told me they would call as soon as the got the message and arrange to take care of my problem, she gave me the name of the company and reminded me that I needed to pay them the $75 deductible for the repair or replacement. Well anyway the company called promptly when the open, and arranged to go to my home and take care of the problem. The repairman stopped my job and picked up the check, and called after having to replace the water heater and said every thing was done and good to go. Well, several hours later when I got home the plumbing company called and said that Total Protect had called and told them, that there was a $500 limit, I said no, that since originally purchasing the plan , I was told there was a $75 deductible change for any covered repair. Well anyway the plumbing company said, that was not what Total Protect said, and that they would have to bill me for $300 and some dollars. I called Total Protect to see what was going on. They told me that there was a $500 dollar limit,I became very angry and said that was not the contract I purchase, the snippy rep. said well you should have upgraded you contract, well I told her, I had never known there was an upgrade and they never tried to inform me of such an option, which since I was already steaming, just made me angrier, she said she would connect to the president's office. Where another person told me that there was $500 limit, I repeated that was not what I had purchased in 2005, and basically told that was the way it was, and still I became angrier. It seems they must have a bounty program , to screw people out of their money. I told them they were unethical, unprofessional and crooks. I then proceed to call the plumbing company and asked them if the had similar things like this in the past. They said no, the said they deal with quite a few warranty companies , including this one, and this was the first time it had come up. I called another company, they said the same thing, that they hadn't heard of anything like this. So I figured, I was being ripped off. So I called a couple of other home warranty companies, asked them what their practices entailed, they said the client paid the deductible on a covered service and they took care of the rest. So anyway I called Total Protect back , and said I wished to cancel the shady, shifty and crooked service. I was told that I couldn't cancel my contract until August, or pay them $291, to cover their services. I asked that the 10 years that I had their service , paid the premiums every month, and got virtually no service from them, counted for nothing, they could repay all the money they stole, scammed and did nothing for and they could take the $291 out of that and return the rest, since they hadn't done anything. I have contracted with AHS, which unlike Total Protect is an honest, ethical and reputable company, the best thing that Total Protect, can do is go bankrupt and go out of business, and clear the way for companies that honor their commitments . I plan to file complaints with The Consumer Protection Agency, Iowa Consumer Protection Agency, The BBB, The Iowa Attorney General Fraud Commission, as well as the Iowa State Insurance Commission, about the crooked , unethical business practices of Total Protect. I'm sure a large sleazy company like them don't care about the common person , who gives them their hard earned money for the fictitious services, but I hope enough of the people they ripoff complain and someday they get justice they deserve.

The representative, Hunter, was excellent. He set up an appointment for 2 days earlier than that. But the next thing I know, I'm getting a call from a company that would be there tomorrow. So, he kept working and I really appreciated it. I had no problems with the technicians that came. They were very pleasant as well.
The dryer is working for now. I'll know the quality of their repair after I dried quite a few loads of clothes. I think they have to put a new belt on it and the belt to me looked thinner and not as sturdy as the one that came off. But if it works, it works. I've always had good result with them and so I don't have any problems. The only thing I was concerned, was one time when my icemaker went out and they don't cover icemakers. But in this age, icemakers are a part of the refrigerator, and they don't consider it part of a refrigerator. You don't find a refrigerator hardly ever that doesn't have an icemaker on it. But I've had my policy with TotalProtect for at least 10 years and I am very satisfied overall and would recommend them to a friend.

The second claim that we did was for a microwave that melted. The other one was one of those real high-end G.E. and the insurance didn't cover that. So they gave us the option of one of a couple that they picked out or cash. When I looked at the ones they had picked out to put in, they were very good and matched the color and the trim. The only thing they didn't have on them was the high-profile name which was fine. They gave me a couple of days to figure it out and do some research online and look around locally at the one they were going to put in because I wanted to make sure it was going to be what we really would want. When we purchased our house, the previous owners had the HMS Home Warranty so we decided to keep it on. In general, we have had good service from most of the technicians who have come to service our appliances, with the exception of one technician. When this technician came, he messed up the claim. There was a problem with the oven. It did not indicate if the oven was on or off. So it was dangerous if you have kids and you don't know if the oven is on or off. We had a technician come and the technician, instead of writing that there was a problem with the on/off indicator and that this had to be changed, said instead that the oven clock was not working. That was what he submitted and, of course, the claim was denied.
When we called, I said, "I don't understand why the claim has been denied when the oven is not working...I don't know if it's on or off." The guy said, "Well, I'm sorry but that's what the technician wrote." I said, "Well, could I please speak with the manager because this is dangerous and we have kids in the house." The guy was rude. He started yelling at me and I said, "Wait a second, I'm the client here." He was just horrible.
So at the end of the day, I talked to HMS. They ended up changing the representative. They used another company and eventually, the problem was fixed. However, I had to pay deductible two times. I think that was the only instance where the service was not what I expected but I understand that it was a service provider of HMS and not HMS directly.
Other than that, I have had nothing but positive things, like the other repairmen that have come have been extremely nice. We have had the warranty since 2006 so from 2006 to date, some time has gone by and, of course, things need repairs here and there, and in general, they have been positive. I think HMS has been a good investment. Other than that instance where the repair company was not up to the standards that it should have been, I think it worked really well.
