    I had been looking for an affordable home warranty for awhile. They sure do not make appliances and things for your home like they used to. I have replaced most of the appliances in this home at least twice in the 22 years we live here. The last time, we replaced all the kitchen appliances when we remodeled. That was in 2020. So we hope not to bother you with appliances. But there are things you cannot fix before they break and they are on your list. Mike ** was very nice and helpful.     Please take my advice and treat this company like the plague. I switched from American Home Shield because Choice was cheaper. Worst mistake. The people that answered the phone in customer service are very respectful and as helpful as they are allowed to be. When you beyond that when trying to get resolution you meet the real Choice! My A/C went out when temperatures were staying above 95 in Louisiana. They set my evaluation up for 3 weeks following my calling and complaining they allowed me to find someone for sooner. That person came and I paid callout fee. When I sent the info to choice I was told to get a breakdown and resubmit, which I did. The evaporator coil had leak underneath so then I was told to fill out form and show proof that the unit was maintained and not rust damages. My coil is aluminum so it can’t rust. At about the fourth week and suffering in this hot house I was then told to have the tech send proof of the leak.

    Mind you this is another callout fee that is coming out of my pocket. He does come out and we video using some kind instrument and I send them individual frames and explanations. It is now a Friday and being sure that this had to be the end and knowing that I'd have to live in this heat for another week or two because the technician was leaving town for vacation I had him install the new one since he had the unit open and the attic is a furnace. I’m a 73 year old woman and before he got here I was the one to go up there and remove the panels so he wouldn’t have to endure that heat longer than he had to in order to prove that the unit was leaking. I sent everything they asked for and then on Saturday morning I get a call tell me that they didn’t like the price quotes and they wanted to send their people out. My God, these people are ruthless. Since I’d had it repaired they refused because They didn’t approve the repair.

    At least they could have paid something since they never questioned that the damage was not covered. They wait you out until your back is against the wall and then they break you. I feel terrible because I had talked my son in law and my brother into signing with this company. I am an idiot because in looking for another company I chose American Home warranty. Once paid I find out that they are the same company!!! Now I’m making it my mission to tell everyone I know and meet to never deal with this group. I refuse to dignify them by calling them a company.

    I filed a claim for a leak under my kitchen sink. A technician was sent after after more than a week of no water. He determined that the problem was due to normal wear and tear and I was denied the claim by you. I had a second plumber come out prior to your technician arrival and he made the same determination. I have filed an appeal and still have not heard from anyone, even though I was told someone would respond to me within 24 hours.

    The disposal was leaking water, the process of reporting was seem less and in a timely manner. The technician was very knowledgeable and diagnosed the problem. He determined that the disposal needed replacement. Got to it and in no time the new garbage disposal was removed and a new one was installed.     I purchased this contract to protect all the appliances in the house. I ask the representative specific questions of what was covered and they said I was purchasing the best plan. I had the plan for several months never missing a payment, I had an issue with my ice maker, they sent a tech out and I received an email later that day from Choice saying the ice maker is not covered. I am not only out all the monthly payments I spend, but additionally the $75.00 service fee. If my ice maker was not covered as alleged, they should have denied the service request. Sound to me more like a way for Choice to make money.

    CHW refused to cover my well pump which is listed as covered on my contract. There was something in the fine print which gave CHW an out. CHW said that the pump was running constantly. I do not believe it was because whenever I was using the hose or the sprinkler the pressure would routinely drop the resume a short time later. The system worked fine for 15 years. It seems unlikely that the pump would run for 15 years without failing.

Each time we were told to make the check out to ***CHOICE which I did however, the plumber this time was very insistent that we make it out to his company.     I have had bad experiences with Choice so felt it only appropriate to share an excellent experience with a recent clothes washer issue. All Star Appliance (Charley) responded to our need and did an excellent job - called before arriving (ON TIME!), quick diagnosis, very professional, courteous, and efficient. Submitted diagnosis to CHW and acceptable resolution was quickly reached.

    Compare that to earlier HVAC issue where I got hosed out of any compensation for new AC unit (thousands of $$$) because repair guy/me supposedly did not follow procedures even though no CHW resource from claims or other departments would get involved. CHW actually threatened to cancel my policy because I was making an issue of the situation - one of the worst service-related experiences I have ever had. It all depends on the repair company who responds to your claim and CHW has done a very poor job of vetting these companies. This was an excellent experience - next time could be a disaster... HONEST ASSESSMENT.

    I first must mention that I don't have any confidence that this is actually THE consumer affairs' survey. It more than coincident you list Choice first, and HVAC featured in the comment area. I joined Choice in July, and made two claims about my HVAC system, which is supposedly covered. I have the premium lol plan. Communication is miserable/AI mess, an undefined guess as to who is emailing or texting, so that responses that used to be a simple 5 minute phone call are not possible. No one could confirm the appointment, so I sought repair out of pocket. The repair was simple, nothing wrong with my AC at all.

    A month ago I filed claim for heater, part of the same system. My chief and only complaint was that the inside fan wouldn't cut off, after heat reached thermostat temp. The vendor tech didn't correct this issue. He didn't recommend a new system or part. Nothing changed, so I contacted him again, he came out and said he'd look at "heat strips". He eventually said the AC is fine but I'd need new heating equipment/parts so therefore a new system. I know about the coolant issue, and I also know it clearly is not a problem for my AC, which runs very well with low electric bills 9 months as I live near Austin TX. I know there are a number of HVAC scams being reported on Spectrum local news, regarding this very issue. THe problem is I have this home warranty system that's supposed to fix systems, and they are attempting to charge me for a sizeable (over 3K) number of parts. I was given no opportunity for a second assessment.

    The case worker provided a bunch of gibberish about why the cost, of course tying it to the coolant R22 which my system uses. I still have no evidence of what is wrong with the fan operation. No one suggested a thermostat change or something related to the fan, but they were quick to point out how high my bill will be. Ultimately the case worker would not accommodate any customer service or alternatives, so I canceled immediately. Do not bother getting the warranty is best advice I can give, because they are simply a waste of time, money, and dignity.

    Dealing with Choice Home Warranty was a disaster that ended in my cancellation of all 6 policies I had with them which were replacement of existing AHS policies. They’re good in talks but poor in delivery. On 5/29/24, CHW sales rep Jeff & Acct Ex Kurt ** expressly assured me that CHW could repair defective appliances within 2 days as required by Nevada State Law requiring owners to respond & repair essential services like A/C & water heater. They gave me phone 888/503-6847 ext. ** if problem arises. I paid $450 for each contract totaling $2,700.

    Problem started when my LV tenant complained about AC not working properly summertime. CHW assigned technician with earliest response after 3 days of service request. Consequently my property mgr had to call AC company to do repair. Initially CHW refused reimbursement, but reconsidered after back & forth calls. I phoned Kurt but that phone # keeps on ringing without being picked up.

    Next service call was for a water heater, and again CHW tech couldn’t respond within 2 days. My PM got it repaired within 2 days costing $1,500+. Again, CHW refused to refund due to not following procedure which would entail at least 3+ days in violation of Nevada State Law. After back & forth calls, CHW offered to settle claim for $300 which was unacceptable. Again repeated calls to Kurt W remained continuous ringing without being picked up. That incident resulted to the cancellation of all 6 policies on 9/30/2024.

    Follow up calls to Resolution Dept for refund for unexpired portion of all policies (2 of which were not even effective as AHS policies are still active) were very frustrating. I finally got 11 refund credits on my credit card totaling $1,680.50 on 9/27 & 9/30. On my 11/16 & 12/8 (copy attached) follow up emails to Resolution Manager R. **, I requested him to identify for what particular property each credit purports to but no reply or phone call received. At least I wanted to know what cancellation charge etc. was imposed on each policy. Despite their questionable 5-Star rating CHW advertised, I’m now searching if there’s any class action going on against Choice Home Warranty.

    I made an initial claim for the repair on my refrigerator as it was not making ice and water was leaking and freezing on the platform inside the refrigerator and under the bottom tray of the freezer. The assigned contractor came out on four occasions in an attempt to fix the problem to no avail. I contacted a Choice Home Warranty Agent to report two weeks and the fourth visit to report that my refrigerator was yet not making ice and water was continuing to freeze in the refrigerator and under the freezer section. The agent contacted the contractor and informed him that the repair was not complete and placed another order for him to return and complete the repair.

    The contractor refused to show up on the date that he was assigned to do so. Again I contacted a Choice Home Warranty Agent to report that the contractor did not show up only to be told that I needed to file a new claim as it has been over 30 days....Mind you, 30 day of my refrigerator not being repaired!! So, I was required to file a new claim and pay another $85 or the new contractor to come out. The new contractor came out on 1/2/25 and repaired my refrigerator by removing ice build up in a few places on the appliance and now the refrigerator is making ice and water is not leaking and freezing inside the refrigerator. Quite frankly, I am of the opinion that the first contractor was not skilled enough to identify the underlying problem in order to repair the refrigerator. I had to file two claims and pay $85 twice which I think is totally unfair!!

    I had an emergency plumbing issue which required the use of a vise grip/ pliers to stop the water from continuously running. Upon the repair person coming to repair the matter, it was determined that a valve would need to be replaced. Choice denied the claim based on the use of the vise grips to turn off the water. Appeal was filed and again was told because the vise grips were used to stop the water from running from the leaking valve it was not normal wear and tear. Now any entity with common sense would know that the water continually running would not be an acceptable option until a technician was available. Also the valve is leaking internally and would have needed to be replaced at any rate regardless of the use of the pliers.

    This is by far the most ridiculous reason for a denial. Out of the 4 years we have had this provider we have attempted to utilize it a total of 3 times, they were unable to fix the my microwave, they did repair the AC issue (connection problem mot the entire unit replaced) and now denial for shower valve repair because the outside of a valve that was leaking internally had marks on it. Mind you they charge a monthly fee of approximately $80 and a service fee that has increased yearly to the point of now being $100 per call. This is by far the worst excuse for a service company. Had I known of the BBB rating of this provider. DO NOT RECOMMEND!! Only reason for the 1-star rating I had to rate them and negative rating was not an option. Also the appeal agent told me what she would have did at her home like that helps me.

    I experienced a plumbing stoppage and reported the issue to CHW on 12/29. They advised that I would have a technician out within 24 hours since the matter was urgent and I did not live in a remote area. After 24 hours, I had not received any kind of update from them, so I called. While waiting to speak with someone, I received an update that they could not locate a technician yet, but were working on it. I was unable to run any water in my home without risking the shower flooding. I finally got in contact with someone and explained the urgency, that I needed someone to come out that day, as I was flying out that night. They advised that they were still looking for a technician. I asked for them to provide a list of affiliate technicians so that I could contact them myself. The agent was unable to provide any information and recommended that I call all plumbers in the area and ask. I called 42 plumbers, all of which refuse to work with CHW because of how “difficult” they are. I called CHW back and asked about reimbursement since some of the companies recommended this method. CHW advised that this process would take 24 hours to get approved as well. I again advised of the urgency of the situation, which still didn’t change anything. I then spoke with a supervisor who was equally as unhelpful. I ended up leaving town with the stoppage still there and hoped that my house wouldn’t be flooded when I returned, which CHW also advised they would not be responsible for if this occurred, even though the issue hadn’t been remedied in a timely manner. While on my vacation, they finally located a technician willing to do the work a week and a half later. I called the technician myself, who was fantastic and willing to move things around. I ended up having to come back from the vacation early to get the issue fixed, but the issue was resolved. I find it a little ridiculous that my non urgent issues have been resolved more quickly than this extremely urgent situation and hope that CHW does better next time. Many plumbers commented that they don’t make enough on these calls to be worth it, so hopefully CHW creates a little more incentive for companies to get these issues resolved more quickly in the future.

    I have wasted another $180 in service fees with CHW, in addition to the hundreds of other wasted dollars on previous service fees. This time, I am reporting my last three experiences. I had my leaky faucet diagnosed three times, one was denied, and two were approved, costing me $120 in service call fees. The two technicians with approvals never showed up to repair the leaky faucet; thus, more money wasted. Choice did not offer to pay me a check to cover the repair. They offered to reassign the claim to another technician (for the third time). Meanwhile, my leaky sink is out of use for months.

    Last night I paid another $60 to a technician who had an arrival window of 11-3, but showed up after 6:00 pm. This morning, the claim was denied, which according to my contract, should have been covered. It was denied because it wasn't considered "normal wear and tear." This is the second time I was denied a pipe break for the same reason. With 1/2 diameter PVC pipes, it is certainly regular wear and tear for them to break. They are very small pipes. All in all, I will continue to report my denied claims, for I want to encourage and beseech other customers not to renew with or sign up for CHW, and make the same mistake I made.

    Lastly, all of the technicians that come only take cash, Zelle, or CashApp, some take Checks. The Zelle accounts are registered to personal accounts and not business accounts. And, same with the CashApp accounts. I complained to CHW about this and also asked why the technicians weren't registered in my state as licensed technicians. CHW responded that they do not have to share any information about the technicians and that they do not have to be licensed with the state.

    I had Choice for one year. One horrible year. They fought me on a claim for repair or replacement of a 28 year old refrigerator. I had no fridge for weeks while they took their time deciding if they should replace the dinosaur fridge. They - begrudgingly- replaced it. Barely giving me enough to cover the cost of a lesser quality, basic unit.

    My second and thankfully final claim was 2 months before my renewal date. The 14 year old ac system died. Summer was one month away. They sent a technician who stole a credit card from my home, who stole a small carbon monoxide tester box and proceeded to tell me Choice would not approve the ac repair. Choice did not approve it - that was the only thing the technician did not lie about - and would not give me a reason. The ac system was covered in my plan. I canceled the warranty the next day. Suffered through 2 months of heat abd humidity- that almost ruined the ducts in the house - until I was eligible to file a claim with a better, reputable, honest home warranty company. Every worker who came to my home the year I had Choice told me the same thing "Oh no, you have Choice? They are the worst." Yes --- yes, they are. Run far and run fast from this company.

    Took months to repair 1st claim. Sears technicians cancel on 3 different occasions the day of service. Once the technician arrived took over 8hr to repair refrigerator. Refrigerator wasn't repaired correctly, absolutely horrible soldering work. Refrigerator didn't work, had to set up a second claim. Choice warranty charged me another service fee and I had to cover additional charges they stated wasn't covered under contract. I purchased their best plan. This charge was due to the first technician horrendous work. I have only filed one claim with Choice warranty in 3 years, and it has been a horrible experience. I will not be renewing my contract with the company.

I would recommend this company and their warranty for appliances. However, I must note that I’ve never had much success with air conditioning warranties, whether with this company or others.     This plan doesn't cover much and seems to be a waste of time at this point. It is difficult to connect with a live person and the automated system rarely understands what exactly I am asking to be done. The reasons for denial in some of my claims literally do not make sense. For example, my garbage disposal was not fixed, stating the reason is it isn't hooked up to the dishwasher correctly.... Well I don't even have a dishwasher so how does that make any sense?

Out of the three times, I had one plumbing emergency and I waited three days for service and was told they could not find a plumber in my area and was instructed to call my own plumber and I would be reimbursed.     Choice HW claims it works with licensed contractors. But they DO NOT TELL you that these contractors are verified and have SUSPENDED license. They sent me a contractor for pool pump replacement. The contractor name is THE DRAIN DUDE INC from Riverbank Ca. The contractor charged me with $500 out of pocket and he never showed up. When I called the Choice customer service they said I have to open another claim and pay $85 deductible as well. The contractor license was SUSPENDED from California since 2019 and yet Choice sent him to my house. I cancelled my contract with Choice and will take them to court for damages. DO NOT DEAL WITH CHOICE. THEY ARE SCAMS ARTISTS.

    My LED refrigerator light started blinking. All connections were checked and I knew I could not replace light on my own.     I have had this warranty for about 10 years or so, Overall they are a good company. I have found lately that the response time to calls is longer than it has been in the past. I understand that sometimes it cannot be avoided, such as around holidays, etc. I don't know if more people are choosing to have home warranties or what, but I have been without my washer for over 3 weeks. First to wait for a repairman to contact me, and then the time for an appointment. When parts are ordered, and holidays fall into the mix, I understand.

    A washer is not a "priority" to most, and I understand that, however, I am a senior citizen with health problems living with my daughter and her 2 sons who play multiple sports.     I've had Choice now for 2 plus years, I've filed 2 claims total. The first was on my HAVAC system, it took 3.5 weeks for contractor to contact me, when the agreement states 48 hrs. I finally paid for the repairs out of my own pocket because of the constant run around by Choice. I now have a claim for a plumbing issue, it's now going on 12 days with zero contact by a contractor. I live in a town of 50K, and I believe that choice was not honest when they told me they had local agreements with companies, because the HVAC problem was assigned to a company 100 miles away. I'm sure that most of the good reviews are from people who live in high populated areas. So, in my opinion stay away from this company, especially if you live in a small town, because they will mislead you. I've called at least 75 percent of the local plumbing companies, and none have an agreement with Choice.

    I firmly believe Choice Home Warranty is basically a scam. My HVAC started smoking when I turned it on, and when I removed the cover everything was scorched inside. I immediately call CHW and started a claim, my first after owning the policy for almost two years. The next day I was informed that CHW was seeking a technician, but that I could opt to find my own technician and CHW would reimburse him for repairs or replacement.

    I live next door to a highly respected technician with a leading heating, AC, HVAC repair and installation company, and he agreed to take a look at my HVAC. He said the motor was fried and the entire unit must be replaced. He laughed when I asked if he would be interested in doing the job and getting a reimbursement from CHW. He told me CHW never keeps its promise of reimbursement and no legitimate technician would work with CHW. He then said CHW would not honor its contract with me, either. "You will wind up paying yourself," he said. "You will probably get nothing from them."

    The next day CHW informed me they had a technician--Blum Management. This company appears to be a shill company associated with CHW. Every review on Yelp was a scathing indictment of Blum, calling it every imaginable vile name. Just as interesting, every Yelp reviewer stated that Blum had been selected by CHW to perform repairs. Hence, the connection. I immediately called CHW to complain. "Just give them a chance," I was told. Reluctantly, I agreed, a terrible mistake. The" technician" arrived on time, looked at the HVAC and said his "boss will call," the few English words he seemed to know.

    That night I was informed by email my claim was "denied" because "the fan wiring has been physically damaged and cut off from the fan." This description is a complete fabrication, a total lie. I had used the HVAC every day until it began smoking when I turned it on. The unit worked perfectly. This why I describe CHW a lying, dishonest scam.
