    I’m highly disappointed with the fact that my policy does not cover my repair. I was told that my contract does not cover repairs that still have some manufacturer warranty. My Freon was leaking in my air conditioning and the air conditioner. Service guy checked and the manufacturer will send the part. The repair cost me $675 and the company. WARRANTY is not willing to pay one penny of it.

    I’m very disappointed as this is the first claim I’ve ever had. So I guess for those who have any appliances that still have any coverage from manufacturer warranty you should not purchase a policy here because your repair will not be covered. However, for those whose Appliances is on their last leg, this will probably be a great plan for you. I hope this review is helpful. As for myself. I’m very disappointed that I’ve paid into a policy and can’t even get the labor cover for repair. I did put in a claim rejecting the findings and the company said I was not covered for a second time. Extremely disappointed!

    I wish I had reviewed the complaints and procedures before purchasing a plan from Choice Home Warranty. I purchased a plan in March of 2021. It was supposed to cover 4 years, plus an additional 4 months for immediate purchase. My purchase coincided with my income taxes (which also coincides with my yearly insurance reviews). Thus, in my mind, at income tax time of the following year, the coverage had lapsed. I had completely forgotten that I had purchased a multi-year plan at that point. If there had been email traffic reminding me of my coverage or promoting referrals to increase or extend my service, the fact that I had coverage would have been at the top of my mind. Time passes on.

    In February 2024, my electricity bill increased from an average of roughly $350/month to $900 that month. I contacted the service provider, who came to my home and discovered that my HVAC was running constantly. My financial situation was not looking good, as I am a disabled veteran living on a fixed income. Thus, I scoured the internet for an inexpensive HVAC repair person.

    I found one, and he discovered that the heater coils were caked with what appeared to be drywall dust. He said that, most likely, the AC was running while the bathroom received the tile upgrade, and the dust particles had been swept up into the heat pump coils. He attempted to clean them, removing buckets of debris from the coils, and then checked for any leaks. Upon further evaluation, no leaks were found, but the refrigerant was low. He refilled the refrigerant to no avail. After 48 hours of operation, the system still wouldn’t cool, and the refrigerant levels remained stable.

    I was upset that I had been having my Heat pump / HVAC system checked yearly by Casteel Heating and Plumbing, and they had never opened the side of the heat pump to notice the buildup. I called them anyway to get a baseline price for replacement. I also had a Costco-affiliated HVAC technician evaluate the system. They both said that my current system was beyond repair. Estimates from each were approximately the following: Casteel: ~$18,000.00. Costco: ~$20,000.00.

    I was advised by a neighbor who maintained rental property within his family that he knew an HVAC technician who had access to purchase heat pumps at wholesale prices and settled for a Goodman 2 ton. The total cost for budget replacement was around ~$9000.00. I was contacted by Choice Home Warranty on 3 April, 2025, requesting that I renew my policy. I had inquired as to whether they would reimburse me for the heat pump that I had replaced out of my pocket. They replied “No” and then proceeded to ask me to renew a policy with them. They did not ask about any specifics regarding my loss. They had no intention of supporting me and my home. Their only goal was to get me to give them money and hope that when I encountered a problem in the future, I would forget about the policy and pay out of pocket again.     My coverage has paid for my hot water tank to be replaced. I paid the $100 deductible. I called Choice today and they said I had to pay a $471 charge for connection to the new hot water tank. The plumber informed me that it’s 2 wires and 2 water connections. Nothing else is needed. He has not asked for any additional charges. Choice is not able to explain why they are charging me for something that hasn’t been installed yet. It has escalated to another party. I understand it doesn’t cover consequential damage also but my bamboo floors in my formal living room and kitchen are warped from the water leak of the tank. Do I include you in the suit as well?

    I am extremely dissatisfied with my experience with Choice Warranty and would give them a 0 out of 10 if I could. On Thursday, March 27th, I called to report that my refrigerator was no longer working. I received an email on the evening of March 28th informing me that a technician appointment was scheduled for Wednesday, April 2nd. The lack of urgency from Choice Warranty regarding my situation was appalling, especially considering the significant amount of food ($$$) that was wasted while waiting for a technician to arrive.

    In an attempt to resolve the issue more quickly, I contacted A&I Repair LLC directly. They were extremely accommodating and managed to move up the appointment to Monday, March 31st. The technician from A&I Repair LLC was punctual, kind, and thorough. After completing the inspection, he submitted his findings to Choice Warranty, who then informed me that they would be offering $986 for a replacement of my refrigerator.

    However, the $986 offered will NOT replace my refrigerator. The cost of a new refrigerator with the same specifications is more than double that amount, meaning I would have to cover the substantial difference out of pocket. I found this offer insufficient and decided to discuss it further with a Claims Manager. I attempted to expedite the process by calling Choice Warranty’s claims department on April 1st, but the representative I spoke with repeatedly insisted that $986 was the only amount available for a replacement. When I explained that this amount wouldn’t even cover half of the cost to replace my refrigerator, I was told I could instead receive $1199, but only in the form of a Lowe’s electronic gift card. If I wanted a check, the payout would remain at the original $986.

    What made this offer even more frustrating is that the prices I found at Lowe’s for the same model were higher than what other retailers were offering. Therefore, I couldn't understand why I was being forced to accept their gift card when Lowe’s was more expensive, and I could purchase a replacement for a better price elsewhere. Neither offer was acceptable, so I decided to keep my phone appointment for April 2nd.

    When the scheduled call arrived, I was not connected with the case manager I was originally assigned. Instead, I spoke with someone who questioned why I kept the appointment, as the details of my previous conversation were available in the notes. I reiterated that I was entitled to $1199, and again, I was told it was only available as a Lowe’s gift card. When I explained that I had found less expensive options elsewhere, the representative once again stated that a check would only be issued for the lower amount and failed to provide any explanation for the differing amounts.

    After everything was said and done, I agreed to accept the $986 check, but I was told it would take 30 days for the check to be issued. This entire process has been frustrating, confusing, and unreasonably slow. How is it acceptable for a warranty company, after being paid for a policy, to take over a month to resolve a claim for a household refrigerator—an essential appliance? The lack of communication, poor customer service, and prolonged timeline make this an entirely unacceptable experience. I will not be renewing my policy, and I strongly advise others to avoid Choice Warranty.

    Was not getting enough heat or air down in the basement off of the system. Even had the original installer come by who said I needed a mini split system for about $10,000.     Choice is a rip off. They say when you sign up they will repair or replace however every time there is something additional that they don’t cover. The copay has gone up. Our technician was great but the warranty company is horrible. I will be switching companies hopefully and finding one that actually does what they say they're going to do.

    Overall, the technician completed what was requested; however, instead of replacing a potentially flawed faucet head, he cleaned it out, pushing the true maintenance to a future date that I will have to deal with. I had to clean up after him as he left dirt and black markings on my white cabinets. He did replace the u-hose, which broke during him tightening the screws. This was helpful as it deteriorated over time and with regular use. Something he couldn't address what increasing my water pressure, as he indicated it was mandated by the city. However, I talked with the city, and they said that is incorrect. They are coming to check my pressure and I will need another plumber to come and address this issue which is not corrected.

    Rutledge Refrigeration promptly contacted me setting up an appointment. He did a thorough inspection of the air handler and the outside condenser. This was on a Friday afternoon. They quickly sent their recommendations to Choice. Choice responded to me on that Tuesday telling me they denied my whole claim.     I’ve had Choice for a number of years and they did pay two claims a couple of years ago. But I’m not happy with them for my recent claims. We found some mold in the refrigerator and we thought it was because Coke had leaked.

    My tech came out and checked it, and indeed, the Coke had leaked and there was some mold growing in the drain pipe. It was a minor repair for a couple of hundred dollars. They paid that, but my contract says that I’ll only have a $75 deduction for the initial visit. They deducted 100. So I had to contact them about that and tell them they owe me another 25.

    But then after the repair was made, we continued to find mold in the refrigerator. I bought a thermometer and put it in there and it’s not cooling. It’s supposed to be between 32 and 37 and it’s 43. It could need something as minor as just a shot of coolant or the whole compressor could be going out. They refused to let my authorized person come back and fix that even though it was related to the previous claim.

    The first person they assigned the case to and the company he claims to work for doesn’t exist. He must be in the protective services because I can’t find anything about this man. When I talked to him on the phone, I asked if he has a gate pass to come into my restricted community. He said no and that I’ll have to call me in a guest pass. He also said that he’s coming in an unmarked car. I thought this was a dishonest person and I didn’t want him in my house.

    So I called Choice and told them that. I asked if they wouldn’t let my original guy come back and they said they’re going to assign their top-notch person, a gold star repairman. So tomorrow, the guy is supposed to come out. He lives 45 miles away from Savannah. I checked out his website and there is one photograph of him repairing a stove. He’s authorized to repair GE appliances. Everything else on his entire website is fire safety. He is apparently highly rated by his community because he vacuums out dryer vents.

    So in total frustration, I called my Sub-Zero guy. He said he’ll come out and look at it. If it needs a shot of Freon, he could do that. If it’s a just a simple thing, he can fix it. But if it was a compressor, that’s a little bit of a bigger job but there’s not much difference between how he put it in a Sub-Zero machine and a different machine. He’s coming out now to consult with me about whether somebody who can repair a GE refrigerator could do this.

    My first experience with them several years ago was so positive, I contracted for a long term contract to get a low rate. I’m paid up through 2030 because of this 30 year old Sub-Zero that has no freezer compartment in it. Beside it, I have the same size Sub-Zero Deep Freeze, which is a free-standing unit.

    My whole kitchen is configured around these machines. As a matter of fact, the whole first floor of the house has hardwood flooring that would have to be replaced if I replace these machines. Sub-Zero never makes their machines obsolete. They keep producing parts for them forever so there’s no reason why they can’t be repaired forever. This is the only reason I have a home warranty at all. If this machine needs a major repair and they won’t let my Sub-Zero guy do it, I’m going to terminate the warranty and ask for a pro rata return.

However, the warranty’s definition of replacement and my definition are two different things. When I signed up, I understood that they would either fix it or replace it.

    I had a stovetop go out, and since they can’t fix it, they say they’re going to replace it. But they don’t actually replace it. They do what they call a buyout. They give you money as an e‑gift card to replace it, but the amount is based on wholesale, not retail. You’re the one who has to do the shopping, and you’re limited to Lowe’s.

    I’ve had Choice Home Warranty for years. So far, it’s been good, but I had a lot of problems with them at the start. Apparently, after you have them for a certain period of time, they start raising the rates periodically to include the amount you have to pay when you have work done.

    I canceled with them for a while and then started again. However, they started doing the same thing. They said, “This is our policy. This is what all home warranties do.” I told them that was a problem because if they raised premiums every 18 months, I’d need to switch to a different carrier. So, what I ended up doing was paying for a longer term as a one-time payment, and that guaranteed me a little better rate and a better co-pay when I have to have work done.

    It's kind of a scam the way they do it with their payments, because they promise you a price, and then they already have a scheduled plan to periodically up that price. If they tell you the price, they should stick with the price.

    I like having the service. It is good for most appliances, but my other issue was that there are loopholes for the most expensive ones. For example, with air conditioners, they put undersized wiring on them so the wiring will burn up before the compressor. If you don’t change that wiring, anytime your air conditioner goes out, the first thing that burns up as the compressors get old is the wiring. This causes a short. When that happens, Choice has a clause in their policy that says they don’t cover electrical shorts. They have an automatic out for the most expensive home repair that you could have.

    I am aware of those problems, which I think are consistent across the home warranty industry, but I think Choice is better than most.

    While I got somewhat lucky with the minimized damages based on timeframe, I still essentially lost money with them. I had reviewed their policy regarding AC unit coverage which was my main concern living in a desert, while I understand that every policy has its limitations, this one had a lot of excluded parts of the unit. However, these all seemed minimal and not major repairs if needed to do them on my own. After encountering an issue coming into spring, we called for AC repair/diag, they came out and told us it was a leaking service port, which I had serviced in the past 6 months. With how much had ended up leaking, it's impossible to claim it on a brand new port.

    After going up on the roof and reviewing everything myself, the port looked to be tampered with. With how small the leak is at the port, it's impossible to lose that much freon in such a short amount of time. I understand that my unit may be older, so it may have other components that need to be serviced but it was dumped on a service port which is the easiest to blame. After reviewing the AC and learning more about HVAC systems, going back into the covered/excluded items, they do not really cover anything regarding your HVAC. The wording for loopholes provides absolutely 0 support to the consumer.

    Buckle up, it’s gonna be a roller coaster. Recently my freezer became inoperable. I requested service via the company's web application on March 18, 2025. On March 19, 2025 I received the email that a CHW technician has been ‘assigned’ to my claim. They provided a service date of March 24, 2025 between 1100 am – 300 pm. Ok, my food in the freezer was already lost, I will wait the SIX days.

    Fast forward to 300 pm, March 24, 2025. No technician, no phone call, no email, no text, no communication that the technician was en route, delayed, or cancelled. I called the number provided and left 4 messages, no response. I called your customer service around 3, at which time the representative also tried to call the number. He reported to me that he also received voicemail. I agreed that the technician could be running late and would wait it out. I called the ‘partner’ at 600 pm and straight to voicemail. I called your service center and got the runaround from the initial representative (and he was difficult to understand) and asked that the incident be elevated. Why elevate it? I took the entire day off from work because the appointment time was in the middle of the day. I had to take the entire day off losing $450.

    The original contractor was cancelled and the job was put out for other contractors. Apparently it was picked up right away. What apparently, because I never received the email that it was reassigned. It wasn’t until Thursday morning when I checked my claim on the Choice website that it had been accepted and the appointment was the next day. Frustrating as I was told that the company uses email and does not do phone calls.

    Anyway, new company, I tightened my seatbelt. Was I surprised! I got a confirmation call from the company Thursday afternoon. Wow! Friday morning, the technician called and gave me an eta, which was spot on. Technician arrived and freezer was repaired in about 30 minutes. Kudos to the technician and company. In the end, 1st contractor totally unreliable Choice customer service is a joke. Choice CEO, who I emailed, is totally non-responsive. 2nd contractor was extremely professional and exemplified awesome customer service and compassion and care for the customer.

    I first received an email from Choice on feb 4,0225. And I began researching choice's offering. Along the way I received a few more emails, still not sure what I wanted to do. I continued to research. Then the calls started coming in and if there's no caller id displayed, I would not answer the call. But for some reason I answer the call this morning and I was greeted by a pleasant voice whose name was Mathew. He explained the reason for his call was he saw me online and called. After Mat explaining the home warranty in detail, we discussed cost, terms, what is covered. He did so in a very understanding manner for me to understand. The more Mat talked the more I felt I could trust him. After a short talk with my wife, Cheryl we agreed this is what we could.

    Some questions followed and the answers from Mathew were acceptable and I told him he won. He gave us the price and he then stated that we lived in a zip code that qualified for a program. He explained the 6 year option and the cost and benefits of the program. He gave me the price and I asked did I have to commit today to it and he responded by saying the stood for 30 days and there is no pressure to sign now. I forget the price he said for the 6 years, and asked was there an issue with having to pay all that now, I told not really, he then asked if either me or my wife were over 55 and I said we were, or either of us veterans and I said we both were, he put me on a short hold to ask his supervisor something and when he came back there was a much better offer then the original. At that point it was a no brainer and we committed to getting the home warranty. The last thing I will say and I'm sorry for the extended review, but Mathew was well worth it.

    When they called 4 years back and they said some cost and when I said No, they reduced drastically to 60% off and asked me to take for 3 to 4 years coverage.. They initially said everything will be covered and even if one appliance goes bad you will get this money back, so no loss.. But when I raise any service call they will decline the coverage with some excuse.. 

    1. During Texas winter weather I called them when my water heater broke and they said its due to "Acts of God" and they won't cover it. 2. My Microwave stopped heating and I raised a service call with a fee of 65$. They came and fixed it and it stopped working after 6 months. 3. One of my rooms had no electricity, so I raised another service call. Service call company came and first they asked me to pay the service call fee of 65$, after that only he started inspecting it by turning off and unplugging all the electrical appliances; still it didn't work.

    Service representative said he will come with another person to check the interior wire which might have gone bad and have to check fully. He left within 5 min. Even that check I itself done initially and then only raised service. I trusted him that they would come again. Then I got an email from the home warranty company saying the electrical wiring system is not under the coverage but it says it is covered. Supervisor who called me for my appeal is so rude and she keeps telling the same story that it is not covered. She recommended having another 3rd party service licensed electrician to come and inspect if that is not correct then they will come and fix it. But they won't refund you that amount.

    Finally the issue was the exhaust fan which went bad and caused a short circuit. After that again I called them to tell that is the issue then they won't cover it because I said the issue was in the bedroom but the exhaust fan was in the bathroom. It is an attached bathroom and both come in the same electrical circuit breaker. But they said it won't cover and they won't come and replace the exhaust fan. To replace the exhaust fan I need to pay another 65$ service call fee. 

    4. Now today Microwave again stopped working so when I raised the service call fee (65$) and then the whirlpool warranty team said there are no replacement parts and recommended replacing the whole unit. So after more than a week they declined my claim saying it is not built in microwave, which is not covered. They will cover only Built in microwave and not countertop. Then how come they came and fixed it 6 months back? It is a countertop model but comes with Trim kit and is installed inside the wall unit.

    Service call team didn't even come in person to check and they charged me 65$ & not refunding me even that. In short they will find some excuse and if it is a huge cost to replace then they will not cover you. Only small DIY work they will cover and even if you are good at DIY then you can do it yourself instead of paying 65$ service call fee..

    Disappointing Experience with Temporary Fixes and Lack of Accountability. I’ve been a customer of Choice Warranty for awhile, and I’m extremely frustrated with their service. My fridge started leaking, and after filing a claim, they sent a technician to fix it. However, this was only a temporary fix, and the issue came back shortly after. Now, I’m paying a second technician to repair the same issue because Choice Warranty refuses to take responsibility for providing a permanent solution.

    I’ve been given excuse after excuse for why they won’t replace my appliance, despite the repeated issues. Instead of offering a lasting solution, they seem content with quick fixes that don’t resolve the underlying problem. It’s been incredibly disappointing to deal with a company that doesn’t seem interested in standing by their warranty and fixing the issue for good. I would not recommend Choice Warranty based on this experience. They are quick to take your money, but when it comes to resolving issues with faulty appliances, they fall short.

    The technician was great. Polite, efficient and quick at resolving the issue with my garage door. My only issue was with the text message I had received, prior to his arrival, providing me with a tracking system, to see how long was my wait until his arrival. At first it said he was arriving at 340, then 4:10, then 4:30, then 4:45, then 5:15.... My waiting window was from 2 to 6. At 6:10 there was still no tech at my house. I called the company at 6:20, only to be told that he was on his way.

    What is the sense to have a tracking system, if the arrival time changes every 15 minutes. It defeated the purpose; something can be done to improve their service. Don't give customers a tracking system if it doesn't work.

    VERY DISAPPOINTED that Choice refused to replace my 3/4hp garage door opener with another 3/4hp, which is the common and correct opener for a double garage door. Instead the installer said that Choice would only pay for the 1/2hp. Which is for a single garage door. The manufacturer of the opener told me that the warranty on the opener that you had installed would be invalid because the 1/2hp opener isn’t compatible with a double garage door. After which I called customer service which was no help at all. This is my second year with Choice and unfortunately probably my last.

    Choice Warranty has denied coverage for a necessary service on our heating and AC pump, specifically for the replacement of a fan and motor. The fan detached from the motor, yet the company determined that the issue resulted from “abnormal use” and, therefore, would not be covered under the warranty. When asked for clarification on what constituted abnormal use compared to normal use, Choice was unable to provide a clear explanation. After paying a $75 claim fee, I am now facing $500 in out-of-pocket repair costs, despite having paid $650 for the original warranty. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend their service.

    In a recent claim I was extremely disappointed. My appliance, an ice machine, had stopped making ice. CHW sent out a service representative who diagnosed the problem, which was a broken wire in the cutter grid. The claim was assigned to a case manager, who advised that the claim was not covered, because "this does not constitute a normal wear and tear failure." This particular part is part of the mechanical operation of the machine and is subject to wear and tear. In spite of this the case manager could give no other reason for the failure of this part, but insisted that it was covered. It would seem that the company's position is to find any means to deny a claim rather than accept it.

    Filing a claim is easy but getting reimbursed is a nightmare. 3-26-2025 I had a microwave that should be covered by Choice Warranty and if they can't fix it then they replace it. I paid $100 for the visit and they told me they couldn't fix my microwave so they would give me $191 gift card towards a new microwave but went up to $249 which still won't cover the cost of a new microwave I need for the trim kit installed with my microwave. The problem is the retail price towards a microwave with my specs is $459.

    This is a special microwave that's even built in with a trim kit and my claims guy said well just go to WalMart and get a new one. He was totally unprofessional and this company doesn't stand behind what they promise. We fix it or will replace it at 100% of the cost. They lie and I believe are predators. I am sorry I ever got a warranty with Choice Home Warranty and wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Once I get a receipt for the new microwave I will post it, but may not get the $249 for 30 days.
