    My experience with Choice Home Warranty has been very good. The two times I have had to use the service (once for a washer, once for an A/C unit) I received a very, very quick response from Choice. The service technicians in both cases were professional, friendly and full of helpful advice. The process has been very smooth and I've been quite surprised by the ease. Choice is the second home warranty company I have dealt with in my 5 years of home ownership and so far the only one I would recommend or do use myself.

    On June 10th, we had a sewer back up at our house in Tarpon Springs. I called CHW and was given Florida Plumbing Service as the vendor to fix my issue.     Our air conditioning went out on Memorial Day. Authorization for repair was not available. We contacted Quality Air who had been maintaining the unit under a service contract. They determined that the condenser coil needed to be replaced. The following day, called authorization and was instructed by Will to e-mail copies of the service call record and repair estimate. I did this and reviewed blind copies of the transmission to make sure it had gone through. No response. On 5/28, I called authorization again (LONG wait on hold) and was told that not received. Resent x2 with blind copies received to confirm transmission. This time told could not open attachment. (Although I had no trouble doing it) Faxed documents. Had to call again to confirm receipt, but told not "uploaded" into system.

    I was told this would be expedited and to expect authorization # shortly. No call, no e-mail no update on choice website "account center" through 6/6. Reached "David" in authorization after 20+ minute wait. He stated that the information was "incomplete" and asked for information already on documents that he had received. He stated that he could only authorize repairs up to $300. The repair estimate provided on 5/27 was $1207 and David stated that there was a limit of $1500 for any single claim. David also stated that the authorization department had placed "7" calls to Quality Air. He stated that once they could talk with Quality Air, authorization would be completed in an hour. Spoke with Laura at Quality Air. She stated that NO calls have been received.

    She passed information on the claim to the technician, but he was unsuccessful in contacting authorization. On 6/9 Brian ** of Quality Air was able to contact authorization and answered their diagnostic and maintenance questions. He was told to expect a response in one hour. No response. On 6/10, ** and I again contacted the authorization department. This time we were told that because there was some rust on the external unit, the claim had been denied for "failure to maintain". ** explained that the unit has been serviced under a maintenance agreement since we purchased the home in 2011, that some rusting of the external cabinet is normal in units of this age and type and that corrosion was not responsible for the failure of the unit to cool since there was no leak of refrigerant.

    We were told that denial of the claim was "final" and transferred to "customer service". Lisa now requested maintenance records be faxed to her, although she admitted that she had no ability to re-evaluate denial of the claim. We were then transferred to Jody who demonstrated minimal knowledge of the technical issues involved and was not at all interested in addressing our concerns. She quickly became hostile and hung up on us. To date (6/11) we have not received a written decision documenting the reason for denial. The advertising that I had to listen to multiple times while on hold stated that Choice Home Warranty would insure equipment regardless of age as long as manufacturer's maintenance requirements were met.

    My complaints include failure to provide timely claim service, attempts to avoid coverage as stated in the contract, failure to provide claim evaluators with decision making authority appropriate to the claim and AWFUL customer service- interminable phone holds, contradictory responses, failure to provide timely and promised responses, unverifiable reports of attempts of customer contact, unavailability of a procedure for appeal of adverse claim decisions and unprofessional RUDE behavior by customer service supervisory personnel.

    This is a pitiful company and should not even be allowed to be in business. First of all, they find a way not to pay for anything! And they are really good at that. On top of that, their customer service sucks. You will never get the same person on the phone who is already familiar with your situation. And when I called to cancel the rest of my contract, which according to them will be prorated, they said that they can't because they paid a claim once for a very small amount and that there is a cancellation fee and between that, there would be no refund. Now I think I know how insurance works and when you cancel a policy, there is no relevance to what was paid during the time you had the policy in force. I don't think I have ever worked with a company this bad who just doesn't give a crap about their customers. Even the companies that came out told me that they are a terrible company. Do not use this company unless you like getting ripped off and love aggravation!

    I have been a customer with CHW since 2011 and had just one claim since then until now. They state that they will insure regardless of age of a item within your home. My air central air conditioning system of course has been insured under my plan. Last year they came out to add additional freon since the system was not cooling the way it should, and this year the system fail again not to cool. When the service company came out, they found the lines to the condenser frozen and covered with ice. They waited to thaw and then added Freon but through their looking at my system, told me that the condenser coil had to be replaced. They also told me that the reason why I need freon was that the service tech who came out in April to give the system a tune up didn't screw the caps on.

    Now, with the information the techs from CHW stated about the condenser coil, I request it to be changed by their coverage. They refused to replace the coil stating that because the cap were not screwed on. One thing doesn't have anything to do with the other, I told them, and that their own techs wrote down in the order invoice about replacement of the condenser need to be done. They request proof of the maintenance I had done to the system yet, this time stating that the invoice just mentioned tune-up and nothing further other than a statement the coil was damaged. The April techs chose the wrong wording since damage wasn't the case, since it was hit by anyone or anything, he meant not in proper working order due to wear and tear.

    CHW refused to pay even though their techs told me verbally that it was in that shape through age, because of wear and tear. Because of their refusal, I cancelled my insurance with them and demanded a refund for the use months of the plan... I will not recommend this company. They will hang their hat on anything not to pay. You can deal with facts with them and still they will find a way out..... Save your money by not going with them....

    I purchased the home warranty from Choice Home Warranty in December 2013 with some skepticism, but I was assured that the warranty would cover most problems with appliances, including A/C units, so I purchased the coverage. I did not have a claim until the last of May, 2014. I called the service department and turned a claim on my A/C which was running constantly and not cooling sufficiently. They referred me to a company that they work with, and the technician came out to inspect the unit and found that the freon was way low. I paid the $45 service charge and was told that he would come back the next day to do a "leak detection" which would not be covered under the contract, which I understood.

    When he came back the next day, he did the leak detection and discovered that it was leaking through a reverse valve and he would turn in the claim with Choice Home Warranty. When he turned in the claim, it was denied by Choice Home Warranty. I called and spoke with them and was told that it was denied because my A/C unit was actually a "Heat Pump" which included my A/C and Heating and so the "reverse valve" would not be covered and neither would the cost of the Freon, so actually the "Warranty" that I purchased from Choice Home Warranty was a rip-off to me. I would highly advise that anyone wanting a Home Warranty would stay well clear of Choice Home Warranty. They seem to be looking for ways not to pay a claim.

    I had water leaking from my fridge. CHW had a tech come out and take a look, unfortunately he had no idea what was wrong. CHW then sent another tech from a different company as a second opinion and he knew exactly what happened and fixed the drain hole which was frozen and clogged and it's fine now. It has been only a month since I've had this warranty and I'm totally satisfied and would recommend this to anyone whose home is 5 yrs or older. It gives you the peace of mind that there is a back-up.

    I purchased a policy in October 2013. I put a claim in for my A/C in May 2014 because the unit was running continuously and did not seem to be cooling the house. The technician came and stated that he would be putting in for a replacement of the unit. Choice denied the claim because they stated that it was a pre existing condition.     I placed 5 claims since I signed up with them. They honored the first claim after giving me a hard time for weeks. They did not want to honor an oven ignitor claim indicating that the ignitor was in the process of going bad for a while. CAN YOU IMAGINE? they denied a second claim for a leaky pipe in my garage. Then they denied a third claim for a heat exchanger on my boiler because the circulating pump had some surface rust on it. I never seen a 12 year old boiler in a basement without some surface rust. What does that have to do with the internal heat exchanger? Nothing, but they simply will not fix it.

    They also denied the 4th claim for a keypad on the fridge that always sticks when changing temperature. They claimed since it does not mechanically affect the fridge, they will not fix it. They finally denied the 5th claim for a whirlpool pump which intermittently freezes. They will not fix it because it is not always frozen. UNBELIEVABLE. They are really good at collecting the annual fee and the per visit fee but they fix nothing. They claim high customer satisfaction but they are the worst at it. When I asked them to cancel my contract and refund me the money, their answer was "if we cancel it, I will owe them money". You try to call them, and they give you the spin cycle. One transfer after another, forever on hold, the attitude, and at the end of the day they leave you stranded.

    If you are planning to subscribe to a home warranty, DON'T use Choice Home Warranty (CHW), it is the biggest SCAM on the internet. I am stating the following because of I was scammed by CHW.

    I am a retired (24 years of military service) US Army veteran with numerous awards for valor. One of which was awarded after 30 years of secrecy. That unit was titled SOG. On 4 April 2001, I and other survivors of that Vietnam operational unit were awarded, by the President of the United States, the Presidential Unit Citation for Valor. With that in mind, I am also 100% disabled with Agent Orange that I contracted on the battlefields of Vietnam and am unable to physically keep up with home repairs when they occur.

    Even with my military pension and my wife still working, while closing in on to her 70s, we must hire outside help to continue maintaining property and home. Knowing that is to be expected, we have budget our incomes so as to be able to pay for this help. Unfortunately, we didn't read enough of the fine print when we contracted with Choice Home Warranty. They have a way to weasel out of providing any repairs after their sending a technician (that is if they are able to contract out the work since, as one firm informed me flat out, since they too had failed to be reimbursed by CHW and are now refusing to work for them ever again).

    If a technician does come to your home there is a reasonable fee but apparently that fee is for a consultation only NO REPAIRS. My most recent repair (I have requested 3 in two-years) had to do with a Heat Pump while another prior was for an inoperable O-ring on a kitchen faucet. Those two items alone cost me, out of pocket, $2,900+ US dollars!

    Prior to that, a third that occurred during my first year contract, in 2013, I had a water line that was plugged up. I was sent a young man whose plumbing skills did not extend past flushing a toilet. That boy, I paid $45.00 and soon after had to send him off to wherever he had originally originated from and call in a local plumber who completed the job in half the time the boy was at my home while duly trying to impress me with his ineptness. Only after pleading, threatening, etc. was I and a local plumber able to convince CHW to repay me for the work the local plumber had accomplished; which (again) I had paid out of pocket (that amount was $200.00+)

    Regardless, I have since informed CHW that I want to cancel my contract and have what monies not used be refunded. I have not heard hide or hair from them since. After giving this some thought I believe the following organizations and state representatives of the scam since there are most likely thousands of veterans and citizens CHW is continuing to scam daily.

    Organizations that I will be informing: The Vietnam Veterans of America; The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW); The US Army Special Forces Association; The Special Operations Association (I am a Life member of all those fraternal organizations). Also, the following organizations will also be informed: The American Legion and the Masonic Lodge (I am a 32nd Degree Mason). State Representatives: My state senator: John McCain, Arizona State Attorney General and the Arizona State Better Business Bureau.

    I have had Choice Home Warranty for almost 2 years. I called on them once last year to repair my 12 year old refrigerator and twice in the last week to fix my garage door opener and my air conditioner. The repair men were all prompt and fixed everything in a short amount of time. I would highly recommend them. I also had reason to call the office regarding my payment and they were so helpful in straightening out the problem. I feel they went above and beyond what is expected.     Choice Home Warranty was dishonest with me about my A/C coverage. My air was completely out on or about May 9, 2014. CHW sent out a repair service the next day. Work was done but it turned out my compressor was bad. The repair guy called Saturday to tell me CHW's authorization dept was closed for the weekend so I had to wait till Monday. On Monday I was told that CHW declined my claim due to my blower going bad while the compressor still ran. That allegedly caused "secondary" damage to the compressor to which they will not repair. I called and had to demand a 2nd opinion and while that technician stated that the way "secondary" was being used by CHW was very suspicious the claim was once again declined.

    This company had an agreement to fix broken appliances and I included my air conditioning in outside plumbing, etc to this plan. While they did take 2.5 half weeks to fix a dishwasher I claimed them declining disrepair because they felt a blower or stay compressor to cease from working is very dishonest because I was never told that this would cause my claim to be denied. I have since left CHW and only received about a third of my payment back even though I have only been with this company for a little under a year. In my opinion and the opinion at technician that did service for them this company is very dishonest and does not honor a contract that they want you to honor. I recommend everyone stay away from this company because they will not honor a claim that they feel will be too much to repair or replace because it is over a certain dollar amount.

    I have concerns with the way my claim was handled and the technician that was referred to my home. Bett's heating and air came out and did not resolve my A/C issue and put no effort into trying to resolve the problem. The technician noted on my invoice that he found a bad filter and he charged the Freon. When I contacted Choice to check the status of the claim, I am told by a supervisor that the warranty would not cover the cost of repairs due to lack of maintenance because per Bett's, the unit is not working properly, there is no disconnect, there were nuts everywhere, the filter was the wrong size and clogged, the unit is overcharged, the coils are in bad shape and the unit is irreparable.

    I contacted North Georgia Equipment (NGE) Heating and Air to get a second opinion. A technician came out at 10:05 and had my A/C working by 10:45. NGE's diagnosis was nothing of the sort as Bett's had outlined for Choice, but did not outline in the same manner for me. NGE's diagnosis was that he found an air handler wired wrong; found the E wire on Y-which is cooling so the heater will come on in A/C. If Choice had checked their records back to December when I submitted a claim for my heat, they would have found where the technician from Artic Cool Inc. documented that he found the electric heaters disconnected (all three) and he rewired the furnace to make it work.

    Therefore, the issue that was causing my A/C to blow out heat instead of blowing cool was not due to lack of maintenance, but due to improper wiring. I'm noticing that when the warranty company does not want to cover cost, the reason behind it is due to "lack of maintenance." This is very disappointing, unethical and I am very displeased!

Choice sent someone out to look at it, he found a leak and sent in his recommendation and we were denied because of "lack of maintenance". The house is 40 years old.     Called choice warranty when I noticed the house was not getting to temperature. They had some technician come out three days later. AT first they denied the claim saying it was never serviced, so I sent them proof. Then they said because it didn't have a low pressure shut off valve. Did research, never came with one, and nowhere did it say I needed to have one installed. Then they said the technician said it was dirty unit and it was not and technician said he never said that and he said, "let's do a three way conference call." They refused. They didn't even know it was a heat pump unit that runs all year around. They tried saying damaged occurred last year was their next excuse. I wouldn't recommended this sorry excuse for a warranty to nobody.

    We signed up for Choice Home Warranty around March end 2014 and while signing up for the coverage, we specifically mentioned that we purchased the home around a year back, and we do not know how the previous owners have maintained various appliances. So wanted a home coverage to make sure when we are using Attic Fans, Ceiling Fans, Jacuzzi etc. during the summer we do not get any unexpected expenses. We even discussed about the swimming pool that we have and asked if I need to carry the swimming pool coverage the whole year, or can I add the pool to the contract and remove it once the pool is opened/closed for the season. The representative mentioned that as long as we are adding the pool a month before the pool opening month should be ok. Until we signed up, they were prompt on responding to our calls and helping us.

    During the initial discussions we even asked if they would do a home inspection to make sure that everything is in order and mentioned that they do not do the inspection, all they do is to ask the customer to wait for a month after signing up before making any claims. Last week we ended up using our Jacuzzi and first day it was ok, but two days after when we tried switching on, suddenly we heard a tick-sound and motor stopped. We called CHW and specifically mentioned about the motor not working after a tick sound. They assigned a technician for the job.

    Technician did not show-up on day 1 within the give time frame on 2-4PM, and when we called them around 5:00PM to ask about the appointment, they said they will not come that day. When we asked, at-least they should have called us and told that the appointment was rescheduled. They gave lame reason that any work done after 6PM of a day will not be covered by CHW, so will not be coming.

    The next day when the technician came, he claimed that it is a plumber job not electrical. When my wife asked how a motor not working can be plumber job, all that he did was to test the power and said "Yes the power is on and it is motor issue" which we already had told CHW. He then mentioned that he will talk to CHW and later came back and said the work is not covered by CHW, so will not do anything but need $45 service fee. My wife and I called CHW to see why this is not covered. Only answer they had was "This is a pre-existing condition" so will not cover. We asked how is this pre-existing. Only answer they gave is a "pre-existing condition can be known or unknown to the customer" and in this case their technician "somehow" diagnosed the situation as a pre-existing condition. Even after repetitive questioning they never told us how it was categorized as pre-existing.

    Beware of the ads in their website which says "We do not even do home inspection", that is actually a trap for the customer where they get to put a blanket statement on any expensive fix as a "unknown pre-existing" condition. Instead they should do the home inspection in the beginning to make sure that everything is in working order rather than cheating customers with statements like "unknown pre-existing" condition.

    In last 2 months, I had recommended CHW to 2 of my colleagues and I have told them both already not to continue with their sign-up process. Avoid this company at all cost, don't fall on their tricky ads.Their final statement was the motor problem. I have will not be fixed/covered and cannot do anything with it.

    On recommendation from a friend I bought Choice Home Warranty after the purchase of our new home. I thought I had received a good deal having paid $750 for a 2 year contract, $45 co pay on claims and a free 4 months at the end of term. It's now warming up in AZ and we turned on the AC which wasn't working. Turns out blown compressor. Choice Warranty refused to cover stating we didn't keep proper maintenance. We have been living in our home for 6 months. Only ran the AC unit for 3 before winter hit. We have the previous owner's maintenance records and our home inspection showing the unit was clean and maintained. Someone in their team staff area actually called our maintenance technician who serviced the unit for years prior to our purchase and argued with him over the phone!

    Bottom line they refused to cover an $1800 expense or even come up with half the money. I obviously cancelled this policy and would not recommend them to anyone. Apparently they only want to cover minor claims and aren't really concerned with helping you when an expensive one hits. Know you're not really covered when you warranty with them...

    Placed a claim for nonworking heat pump that was blowing warm air after 30 minutes of operation in the cool mode. Diagnosed as a bad fan in the air handler even though I could hear the fan running. Claim denied by Choice Home Warranty because technician told them the fan was turning backward. Very simply incorrectly diagnosed but the claims representative denied the claim anyway. A fan does not start turning backward after ten years of operation. Stay away from this company they are bad news.
