    Updated on 07/08/2025: Choice Home Warranty (CHW) has a very tricky-treat policy of reimbursement of AC fixed during summer hit. CHW has been very slow to respond and fix the AC that broke down during summer heat, especially for families with small children. CHW refused to reimburse despite actual records of receipts and other proof documents. Below is our story with CHW:

    My wife and I have signed a home warranty with Choice Home Warranty (CHW) from 08/22/2022, to 03/01/2026, for our home. On 05/15/2025, I filed for claim for our AC running constantly with the possibility of freon leaking. On 05/21/2025, CHW sent out an AC technician to diagnose our AC with the coil which was leaking freon and our 15 years old condenser running weak and might be breaking down anytime soon. CHW agreed to pay us for the new coil ONLY. However, CHW forced us to pay out of pocket of our own money, around almost $4000, for a new condenser. We did not have money to replace a new condenser to get CHW to fix our AC coil. Our family members helped us to put on more freon so that we could temporarily have cool air for our 3 children.

    On 6/26/2025, our AC condenser broke down because it was constantly running due to the AC coil leaking. Thus, we filed a new with CHW. CHW delayed sending out an AC technician to repair our AC during the very hot weather in summer 2025 in Texas. Thus, due to safety and health issues of our 3 children: 3, 5 and 8 years old, also due to the fact we have nowhere else to stay for many days, we borrowed money from our relatives and friends to fix our AC immediately. We keep all copies of our records including invoice/receipts and pictures to prove that our AC coil and condenser broke down and we already and truly paid for materials costs and AC technician to replace them on 6/27/2025.

    CHW’s managers, whose names are Erick G and Ciara G, have refused to reimburse us for material costs and labor costs for our condenser. CHW agreed to pay only $570 for the new AC coil that they already agreed to pay on the previous claim on 05/21/2025. These two managers: Erick G and Ciara G also refused or lied to me in providing me a process to file a complaint and an appeal request for a hearing with higher management or appeal team than them in CHW.

    Fairly, justly and ethically, CHW must consider the actual/authentic records including receipt and pictures of ours to reimburse us appropriately and accordingly OR CHW needs to revise CHW’s reimbursement policies, especially for the family with little children whose AC system broke down during the summer heat in Texas.

    Original Review: My AC has kept running constantly since the beginning of this summer in May of 2025. I called Choice Home Warranty CHW. CHW sent out AC technician from Sear to diagnose an issue of my AC. CHW received the diagnostic report and informed me that my AC needs to replace the coil and condenser. CHW pays only for the new coil with its material cost and labor cost with the condition that I have to pay for materials and labor costs of condenser around $4,800.

    CHW refused to give me the copy of diagnostic report so that CHW can lie to me that my AC condenser is still working although it is too old and not compatible with the new coil. Finally, CHW has ignored and got rib of me without paying me the new coil because I don’t have 4,800 to pay for condenser. In case that you out there considering to contract with CHW, consider my terrible experience with CHW.

    I had a leak in a line on my enclosed bathtub. I did not see any indication until mold appeared in the cabinet against the tub. The plumber that was sent by Choice Home told me that the warranty company would cover 50$ to fix the pipe but would not do anything about the mold covering the enclosed tub or the enclosed cabinet and wall.

    This is the second time I have had service denied when the problem is clearly wear and tear. The process is so stringent that is allows no flexibility for change when the technician arrives. Your process to open a claim is also limiting which impacts how the service is viewed. The process is skewed to deny payment.     Hot water from dishwasher came to the sink. Sent LG tech. No problem with dishwasher, then sent plumber. He said had to snake and change garbage disposal too which he could fix too. Choice Warranty could not approve it while plumber was there? Had to put a separate claim? So I have another plumber coming to fix the garbage disposal?     Technician was wonderful, great person, very knowledgeable, explained everything in detail. Unfortunately, our dryer was not able to be repaired. Due to parts were not being made anymore for that particular dryer, he had told us the Choice would contact us to let us know what the next step is which Choice warranty did they did not give us the amount that we expected but we understand that it was an old dryer.

    I think the only part that’s so aggravating at this moment is trying to get a hold of customer, supposedly they are going to email me a card with the amount and it’s only for Lowe’s and I won’t receive that for 30 days so now I’m out of a dryer for 30 days. I’ve had Choice warranty for five years. I had things repaired with them. I had my heating and my condenser replaced through them. I understand we have to pay a deductible and we have to pay a little bit for the equipment, but the fact that I have to wait 30 days for a dryer is ridiculous.

    They refuse to cover a 18 month old dishwasher saying it was due to water damage. It was not damaged due to water. It was condensation that got into the user interface board. They said my claim exceeded the amount of my policy. ??? Isn't that's what insurance is for. I didn't even get a denial letter. I had to keep calling them. Their claim portal said it was APPROVED, when I called they Said it was denied. Their customer service is non existence. I am contacting BBB and consumer report.

    I’m writing to express my deep frustration with the service I’ve received from Choice Home Warranty. As a long-time customer, I was led to believe that my plan included full coverage and full replacement of appliances when necessary. Recently, when my GE Profile appliance broke down, I was shocked to be told it was “too old” (18 years, which is incorrect), and that only a few hundred dollars would be offered toward a replacement—not even close to a like-for-like replacement. This goes completely against what I was promised when I signed up.

    When I asked to speak to customer service to file a complaint, I was told that no such option was available and that they were not allowed to provide that information. The representative I spoke with was dismissive, unhelpful, and clearly just trying to rush through the call rather than listen to a concerned customer. This experience has completely eroded my trust in your company, and I will not be recommending Choice Home Warranty to anyone. This is not how a responsible and ethical business should operate.

    I wish I could leave 0 star review! This is the worst company. When you submit a claim it often takes a week or more for them to send a technician. Then they usually find a way to decline the repair. When asked to cancel my policy, they tell me it will cost me money to do so. Because on top of a $50 cancelation fee, they will deduct what their costs have been since 2022 until now since I prepaid for 6 years! When I called another company and told them what was happening they were shocked.

    I absolutely do not recommend this company. I honestly have no idea where they got all these stars from. It’s been three weeks now that I’ve been waiting for a water heater replacement, and having no hot water for three weeks is a disaster. I follow up every single day, and every day they give me a different excuse: “We’ve coordinated with the technician,” or “They will contact you soon,” — but not even one call came through.

    Today, they finally called and scheduled a time, but no one showed up. This company is completely irresponsible. Also, just to replace the water heater, they charged me $100 upfront for the service call, then told me I would need to pay an additional $730 out of pocket because they only cover the cost of the water heater itself — all necessary parts and installation are my responsibility. I reluctantly agreed just to get hot water restored as soon as possible, but still, after three weeks, I have no hot water. Honestly, where did you get these stars from? This is an irresponsible company.

    Guided by the online reviews that painted Choice Home Warranty as a great service provider, I signed a contract with them. Unfortunately, my recent claims experience has made it clear that I cannot recommend them at all in terms of customer service. I requested a service call and the vendor they sent was inept and unable to correctly diagnose the problem. Choice listed a free service call on my account, yet I was charged a fee by the vendor. When I attempted to get this corrected with Choice, they were not helpful.

    In addition, I asked for a supervisor after the claims reps kept giving me the runaround. They never called me, so I tried multiple times through their sales department which was the only live person I could reach without going into an automated queue. These reps were wonderful when they wanted me to sign a contract, but super rude and kept cutting me off when I asked for their assistance reaching a supervisor. I am left with a repair that has not been done, out of a $85 service fee that was supposed to be free, and unable to reach anyone at this company to help.

    I looked to see how home warranties were rated and Choice was rated highly so I chose them. I've had good and bad experiences. I wasn't happy with my last experience where I had no heat. The temperature outside was in the 40s, felt like 30-something, and they did immediately set an appointment and advised me to confirm it with the company, but it was a whole week from the day I was calling. Also, the company was in Tennessee and I'm in Massachusetts. They cited the fact that they had people scheduled in New Hampshire.

    Then, they denied the claim. The first thing they wanted to say was that the reason for the air bubble in the oil thing was negligence and lack of servicing. I sent them proof that I had this furnace serviced as late as December 2024. I sent them a copy of the card that my servicer leaves every year that showed the furnace was serviced every year for 20 years and I never had an air bubble in my oil line ever before. But they do allow me to challenge the claim, in which case, I only got approximately half of the cost of turning my heat on.

    I had another one with a dishwasher. They say if they can't fix it, they'll replace it and they couldn't fix it and they gave me 200-some dollars and told me that would buy me a new one. You couldn't buy a dishwasher of the cheapest kind for $299. I think the cheapest I could find from Lowe's or Home Depot or any of the electrical appliance shops was 599. I was just thinking I should be looking to see if there's a better warranty. If they can't provide a technician or service person to do the job for a week or even locally and I have to find my own, it defeats the purpose, and then I only get paid half as much.

    I was a customer with Choice Home Warranty for about three years with not just one contract but I was paying for my kids home warranty as well that is how much I like their busy up until they denied my request to repair or purchase my air conditioner. They told me it didn’t fall under normal wear and tear. My house was built in 2003. I purchase my home in 2009. I had never had a work order submitted to have anything done to my air conditioner. I submitted a work order because my system was not cooling. They sent out a tech and looked at one of the coils and then check the Freon level, said it was low and he proceeded to fill my system. And told me if something else comes up to give them a call.

    A week later my system started icing over so I call choice home warranty and they scheduled the same company to come out and fix it again. I was told that there was a restriction in the system. So the paperwork was submitted by the tech and I was told the next day the request was denied because it was a in closed system and the restrictions was not cause normal wear and tear. I asked how does it not. I stated how do you not know that the Freon that the tech use wasn’t contaminated and due to over time that a particle from the system since it was so old from the wear and tear didn’t build up in a valve and stop the Freon from circulating through the system. I was told that was impossible and by request was denied. I stated, "Cool you just lost my business." I would recommend to go elsewhere until they train their employees better that after time thing do wear out.

    I was not happy with the denial of payment to repair the electrical outage in my house which was caused by a short in an outlet. While this outlet was not being used, I plugged in a vacuum in a different outlet on the same breaker. This was deemed to be an overload of the circuit. I don't accept that diagnosis. I see it as being a diagnosis rational which allowed Choice the ability of denying my claim for lack of coverage. The cost to me for this repair was equivalent to 20% of my premium. That is not why I purchased this policy.

    I turned on my ceiling fan and immediately smelled something burning. Then I looked up and saw fire sparks. I immediately turned the fan off and called CHW. At first I was told that that the fan is not covered under my warranty as it was not ‘normal wear and tear’. However, when I mentioned that under my warranty’all electrical issues’ are covered, the service manager proceed. I had 3 different companies attempting to remedy my very serious issues. When the electrician came yesterday he told me that the fan has to be replaced and that he would need to check the electrical wiring to make sure it is safe. However, much to my disappointment, CHW denied this request. Now I am waiting to speak with a supervisor to make sure of my safety. I don’t want my house to burn up.

    If you expect to use your own quality contractor, this is a HORRIBLE company to work with. My AC went out and they initially told me I couldn't use my own contractor. After complaining, they sent me a list of what they needed from my technician. By the way, you have to call in to talk to anyone, and it's always a "callback" situation. The customer service people are all ** with thick accents. When my tech finally sent in their requirements, they moved the goalpost. I had to send a tech back out to take more photos and provide more detail on the diagnosis and the repair costs.

    Again, they moved the goalpost on the requirements to get you to give up. (My contractor said they don't like to work with home warranty companies becuase "...They screw the customer!") So my AC is out four days after going out and they are requiring more pictures (beyond what they initially required) and more detail of the diagnosis and cost breakdown. I literally have spent hours dealing with these people. DO NOT GET A HOME WARRANTY FROM CHOICE!

    My air conditioning has been messing up for a while now. I've had 3 issues, the same thing each time, within a year's time; freezing on the unit. Each time a technician was sent out, they diagnosed the unit of having a leak, and needed a new unit. They basically "bandaged" it and the issue kept recurring. I put a claim in on May 16, 2025, and didn't get a technician, through Choice Home Warranty, until a week later. On Sunday, May 25, 2025, a technician finally came out to diagnose the problem. It's basically the same issue, a leak. Yesterday, May 28, 2025, the technician came out, just to do a test! I thought that he was coming to repair the unit, but it wasn't to be. Last night, I got an email stating that the technician was authorized to repair the unit, with a charge of $156.54, supposedly for other charges.

    I live in a mobile home, and I haven't been sleeping well ever since this issue began, and last night was really miserable. I think I might've slept approximately 1 hour, due to how hot it was. The fan was running and I had another fan, but that didn't do any good! I was hoping that today I would hear from the technician, saying that he was coming out to repair the unit, but I haven't heard from him. I'm thinking about choosing another home warranty company, because this is taking too long, and I'm very dissatisfied with the service.
