    AC Service after Hurricane Irma - As you can imagine being in the middle of a record setting hurricane is certainly unnerving. We lost power (and many other things) and 48 hours later when it was restored there were issues with our AC not working. Called CHW and they opened a service ticket and there was someone onsite the following day. Repairs were made and our AC was operational again.     I am writing a fair review based in my experience with my dishwasher. I am a new customer and my dishwasher is not working. I called Choice Warranty and sent someone out... The tech told me he was ordering a starter panel to close and start the dishwasher. And I paid him 60 bucks. 8 days went by and M@M appliance ignored my calls... I called Choice Warranty and they had denied the claim based on the info from the Technician. He had given Choice Warranty a totally different diagnosis than he gave me. He left me with the impression he would be back to fix it... But he told Choice Warranty it had burnt wires which he never even looked at the wires.

    M@M to me is a dishonest company. Ignoring calls instead of just telling me they could not fix it. And taking my 60 bucks and cashing the check the same day... All seems sketchy at best to me... I was angry at both Choice Warranty and M@M appliance. But it was solved when Choice Warranty offered me 100 dollars toward a dishwasher. So I was pleased with the outcome.

    Choice Home Warranty sucks! I purchased warranty in January for a five year term and paid them upfront and in July my account went out. I contacted Choice for my very first claim repair. The technician they sent did not fully diagnose the problem and only informed them of the motor was burned out and needed replacing. They honored the motor repair, took them time to replace it and then the tech says the compressor failed when installing motor. Choice did not want to cover repair and claimed it was non covered. The tech later informs me that he realized something may have been wrong with compressor but never states in original claim!

    I went back and forth with Choice reps and technician regarding my claim, tech miss diagnosis, coverage and Choice still would not honor my claim and said I had to pay for compressor repair it out of pocket. I paid for repair with my own money, then the company and tech came back trying to get more money from me. No, I'm not paying anymore. Now it's September and my water heater is leaking. I called Choice to file a claim on Friday and did not hear from anyone until I called again on this past Tuesday to find out what's going on. The rep tells me from jump the claim is not covered and they won't pay! What?!? Says I would be responsible for replacing water heater myself!

    The policy states water heaters are covered, so how can my claim be denied from start. They send the same technician company out again from first claim and they did not do a complete diagnosis again, claims he can see the problem by looking. I had someone look at my water heater and they found the problem different place than where the tech said the problem was. I paid for home warranty services and I'm not receiving them. The customer service reps are nonchalant and non-helpful.

    I have spoken with several people including managers on both claims. I get excuses, no to mediocre service and still have to pay out of pocket for what their plan says is a covered item. I have cancelled my service with Choice on 9/13/17 and the manager tells me it would take 15-30 days to receive refund. On top of the bad service I received with both claims, lack of repair, Choice deducts fees and repair cost from my refund so I am getting back only a small portion back of all the money I paid them. I would not recommend them to anyone!!

    Was fast to set up and get tech out to look at a/c. They even called and showed up early. He looked unit over and cleaned and recharged the refrigerant. It works a little better but I wouldn't say it's fixed. If it gets into the upper 80's a/c has trouble getting condo below 77 degrees. If temps outside get into the 90's and above a/c unit runs constantly and it doesn't get below 80. Pretty miserable. Upstairs is even hotter. Will probably call again next spring to get it looked at again.

    This is my first experience with Choice. I called to get a Plumber to fix my drain. I never expected to be treated so professional and have this issue taken care of on the same day.     The service and coverage is good and customer support is friendly. SUGGESTION: It would be helpful to have some kind of plan B for immediate Services required over the weekend for example air conditioning failure in summer etc. I had to wait 3 days to get service because my air conditioning broke on a Friday evening. I understand it was unfortunate that it happened on a Friday but I feel this should be a mitigation plan from Choice.

    Samsung/Choice washer/dryer review: We purchased a brand new Samsung washer/dryer set from Lowes February of 2016. It was later that year that we received notice of the recall on the washing machine. Samsung was receptive and provided required information on how to go about addressing this issue, but when we were speaking with them about our washing machine, we began having problems with our dryer. Clothes would come out with countless scorch marks, even on a low heat setting.

    I addressed this with Samsung (since we were already communicating about problems with our washer), and their response was less than satisfactory. They basically told us that we had no options because the one year limited warranty was no longer valid. The dryer was LITERALLY a year and half old. They offered to provide us with a technician to look at it, but he informed us that it would be an expensive fix, so we may as well look at other options. Basically, the drum disconnected from the dryer, so the gap created was burning my clothing every time it turned. Needless to say, I will never purchase another Samsung appliance again.

    We then decided to contact our home warranty company- Choice Home Warranty. I would like to state here that I would not advise ANYONE to go with this company under ANY circumstances. There are much better options (look at Home Warranty of America for one). When they sent out the technician to look at it, he asked which company we went through. When I told him it was Choice Home Warranty, he shook his head and said, "That's unfortunate." I can already tell you they will not fix this. How is that for building clientele? Even the repair guy had a negative opinion this company- and they are paying him.

    As loyal customers for the last 2 years, they proceeded to DENY our claim. What that means is this: they refused to fix it. The representative we spoke with said they would be willing to pay us $200 toward a new dryer (1/3 the cost of our BASICALLY NEW SAMSUNG DRYER). Their reason for denying? They told me that they only cover standard wear and tear. So pretty much if anything besides old age of your appliance is an issue, you can consider it NOT covered. The representative I spoke with was nice, and felt bad for having to deny me, which is pretty terrible if you think about it. Even the people that work there feel bad for the people paying the company for their services. As far as companies go, refusing to provide the services your clients pay for is NOT good business or ethics. Apparently our need was not worth the cost to the company. My advice? Stay away from Samsung Appliances and Choice Home Warranty.

    I took out this home warranty in Aug 2016. My air conditioner stopped cooling on August 11, 2017. I called Choice Home Warranty (CHW) and tried to talk to someone to make a claim, but never could reach anyone after being on hold for over an hour. Completed online claim. Was assigned a tech and he came out (owner of Mastercraft Heating Cooling). Was an hour late to the appt. Had to call him to find out where he was and if he was still coming. He did an inspection and said that the evaporator coil needed to be replaced and the duct work was too small for the unit and needed to be replaced.

    He wrote up the paperwork, gave me a copy and scheduled a time the next afternoon to come back and replace the evap coil. He said he would submit the paperwork and photos for CHW. I asked him, "What does that mean for me?" and he said, "Nothing, they'll take care of everything”. I paid him $60 for service call and he left. I never heard from him and called Mastercraft after an hour after the scheduled appointment and he said that he never received approval from CHW. I then called CHW (after being on the phone for over an hour again) and was told "It was covered due to rust". What? That's the first time I'd heard that word used. Mastercraft didn't say anything to me (the homeowner). CHW also told me the tech had never sent any photos.

    So, how can you deny the claim when you haven't even seen photos of the "rust”? They told me I could get a 2nd opinion (at my cost, of course) and they would re-evaluate. I got off the phone, called Mastercraft back and told him what they said, which he was surprised. He said he had filled out the paperwork and uploaded the photos online (like they are supposed to do) and asked me "Who are you going to believe, me or them??”. WOW!!! I don't like this at all!!! I asked him to send me the photos he had taken and he texted them to. I also asked him about the "rust" and he said, "All units have rust on them and some are worse than others”.

    I called back and again, was on hold for over an hour, and was transferred four different times before I was connected with Doug, Claims Supervisor, Badge # **. He told me that my claim wouldn't be covered based on the evap coil being "rusted out”. I explained to him that was not communicated to me and that when I took out this home warranty contract, the rep told me that they accepted appliances in my home "as is" and did not need an inspection. Even their on-hold recording states that appliances are covered no matter how old they are. He said I could get a second opinion and they could re-evaluate. He even said he called Mastercraft again, after he put me on hold for 20 minutes.

    I did call another company that has done my service for years and I have personal knowledge of their quality of work. They did say the evap coil needed to be replaced, but that the duct work was fine. However, they stated they would not work with CHW because they have been asked to lie and not be honest with customers. They also said it took over six months to get paid by CHW. So, I've now paid for another service call with another company, yet they won't work with CHW due to their past problems with them.

    I have not heard from anyone at the company again, even though I have sent several emails to the "contact us" information. I just sent another one yesterday to cancel my contract and not to charge my credit card any further. I feel like CHW has loopholes in their advertising making false claims on items that are under warranty and customer contracts. At this point, I want them to either stand behind their warranty when I took out this policy or refund my money I've paid to them. You can stay on the phone for hours trying to reach someone live and in person!! Horrible customer service!!

    When the gas control valve went out on my water heater, Choice dispatched a tech. They claim the part is not available. So I must purchase a new water heater. Choice is only paying me the cost of that single part and not for the water heater. They are also a net 30 company, so I don't receive the check for 30 days. And this is after I paid $60 in a service fee. So, $315 (the cost of what Choice claims would have been parts and labor) minus $60 leaves me with $255.00 to apply to a new water heater - and this is after dealing with this for over a week with no hot water in my house.     I have had Choice Home Warranty for 2 years. 1st time I tried to use them I had a hot water tank go out. They told me they don't cover if it could be the tank. Really? A hot water tank is a tank and a heater. OK. I looked on my warranty and it does say that they don't cover the tank. The CHW sent someone to look at the hot water heater for 2mins and they asked for a check to cover their visit. Then, CHW said they won't cover because it was the tank. Well, I called a real plumber and found out that it was what they claimed it was. Long story short they covered a piece of it after all the trouble. 2nd time used, was the dishwasher. The service person took almost a week to show up. He told me it was the pump, and he would have it fixed in a few days. Wrong! He text me for a week telling me he was behind.

    After a week of that I called CHW and they said they would have someone else out after they call him. CHW called me back and said they spoke with the service person and he told them that my dishwasher had been tampered with and broken plastic and glass all inside. They told me they don't cover that. Do I have to tell you what happened between the conversations. I got screwed again. O.K. fine I called the service person to see what was going on. He said "Don't ** with me because I ** you!" and hung up. Hmmm.

    So I called CHW and told them what happen and some guy offered 240.00 for a 650.00 machine. But they would not send out for 30 days. Sounds OK? Not really. Here's why. They take the month of 55 dollars + next months + 55 + service charge 50 + 55 until it gets to you. 240-215=25. So you get 25.00 for a pain and a dishwasher that still doesn't work. I cancelled anyways. And CHW told me they are not going to send me the check. EVEN though I paid for the service and it was covered at the time. Conclusion: they were willing to pay me with my own money. These 5 stars are mostly paid individual. I did have Home Protect. They all are slow about repairs but Home Protect will at least get it fixed. Oh. By the way, I had to argue with CHW just to cancel the policy. He told me they only cover 60% that's the only way they could stay in business. LOL.

    I am in Texas and I had Choice Home Warranty. I made a service call over a month ago for my ac and 2 Air Conditioning guys later and money out of my pocket for them to say they don't cover the AC coil if there is as much as a dot of corrosion. I mean the coil by the nature of what it is will always be wet and will over time corrode from normal wear and tear. I just canceled then and the lady canceling was also the rudest person I have ever talked to on the planet.     The Letter I wrote on their Facebook Page: "I'm not entirely sure what to do at this point since calling your Customer Service Department has yielded nothing but the runaround and the same robotic answer of The vendor needs to supply the pictures. Since it's obvious calling your phone number AND going to your website was a huge waste of time, I thought I might get an answer by posting this to your Facebook Page. On Tuesday, I called Choice Home to file a claim to fix our Air Conditioner for the 5th time this summer, for the same issue. I was only able to obtain a Vendor Phone Number to call after I went to the website to file a claim that way. This was after waiting for your CSR to call me back with this information, which never happened. I called the Vendor myself and scheduled an appointment.

    The Vendor came out the next morning and assessed the problem: The condenser needs to be replaced and said that it would just be easier to replace the entire outside unit since it is an older unit. He took all the information he would need (including the pictures required) and submitted everything to Choice Home. Yesterday, I had to do the job of your Customer Service Department since all I ever got from any rep I called was, "The Vendor needs to submit the pictures." I started calling in the morning to both Choice Home and the Vendor. I had placed several phone calls to both. The Vendor's owner assured me that everything that was needed had been sent MULTIPLE times to both the general box AND the supervisor's email that was given.

    At 6 pm yesterday evening, the final phone call was placed for the day to your Customer Service department to find out the status and yet again, the same excuse was given. Vendor had not supplied the pictures. I told the CSR that I had just gotten off the phone with the Vendor Owner and said that he sent them AGAIN while I was on the phone with him. Your CSR placed me on hold to find out from your Help Desk. She came back ten minutes later and said that it had been sent over to the Approval Department awaiting approval. I asked what time the Approval Department left for the day and she said 7 pm. I then told her, "So I should expect either a phone call OR an email by 7 pm, correct?" I was assured this would occur. It did not.

    When I started calling 10 am this morning, I get the same robotic reply of, "The Vendor still has not supplied the pictures" from various CSRs I've talked to throughout the day. I don't appreciate being lied to, especially since I paid for your service contract. This is Day 4 that our AC unit remains unfixed. I have two special needs children. Both of them were getting sick because of the high temperature in the house. Before I went to bed last night, the inside temp read 83 degrees. My 84-year old grandmother is set to come home next week. It's the Friday before Labor Day and the longer this remains open, the less likely I am going to get my AC fixed before the weekend starts.

    THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! I should not have to do the work of your Customer Service Department by making phone calls for two days straight. I am extremely frustrated and angry that I was lied to and that my children got sick as a result of your company's incompetence and lack of action to handle my claim. When the time comes up for me to renew our contract, I WILL be looking elsewhere and I will make it a point to deter ANYONE from doing the same. The time now is 2:15 pm on day 4 and I STILL am waiting to find out if your Approval Department is in the office to do their jobs today. If this claim is not handled by Tuesday of next week (9/5/17) I will be engaging a lawyer and moving forward with them. I am sending this message to your FB Page as well as via email and private message Facebook provides. Everything stated in this message has been documented should the need arise on Tuesday."

    UPDATE since this letter: Yes, there's a lot to read here. Bear with me. So... No, Choice Home Warranty hasn't fixed it. AND, after ALL that work I did FOR THEM (whatever phone calls that were made really should have been handled by THEIR customer service, but I digress.) they had the NERVE to tell me that "I was at fault since the unit should still be in decent condition given its age." It's a unit that's 15+ years old and survived 2 HURRICANES (one being Hurricane Sandy) and an EARTHQUAKE. (The 4.1 earthquake that happened in NJ about 8 years ago.) So... quick recap: Choice Home Warranty denied my claim saying that the condenser should be in better condition if it was maintained properly.

    I called up PSE&G because we still have that Worry Free insurance should anything break. Their technician came out TODAY (on a holiday, no less #RealCustomerService) and assessed the problem coming up with the same conclusion Piper Systems (the vendor assigned by Choice Home to fix it.) came to. He said that it's 15+ years old and it's had it. He ALSO said that when the fuses had to be replaced, he said, "That should have been the first tipoff to the technician that replaced the fuses in the first place. Repeated blown fuses is a symptom that your condenser is dying."

    I should also note that PSE&G's "Worry Free" doesn't cover replacing that part, BTW. Now here's the heart of the matter: Choice Home Warranty has it on file that the fuses have been replaced twice in a year's time span (I went through our claims and we've been dealing with this for over a year FOR THE SAME ISSUE.) This unit is still going on the old refrigeration system. By 2019, NO ONE will be manufacturing anything on the old system and if that unit needs to be replaced, it would have to go on the new system. (Which means that EVERYTHING in the house would have to be redone, not just the unit in the back of the house.) Parts and labor for JUST the condenser is $1700. The entire new unit is $2k.

    Choice Home Warranty's approval department dragged their feet in coming to a decision because they either don't want to pay for a new unit, didn't want to pay a tech to replace it on a holiday weekend, and knows that this unit (and the system it's on) will have to be replaced if something breaks on it come 2019. I don't have proof of them making the decision based on that information (that the new system would have to be eventually replaced.) Common sense dictates that's the case... but if I'm going to court over this, common sense isn't evidence. I need to be able to prove it. It's not what you know, it's what you can prove.

    So... where does that leave me and my family? The AC STILL isn't fixed. It's supposed to reach 86 degrees tomorrow. Kids start school tomorrow, so for most of the sunlight hours, they'll be in a building that has AC. My first concern is their health, obviously. So I'll probably just put in window AC units for the time being while I gather everything and talk to a lawyer. One of my saving graces in this, is that it's late in the summer season so for now, tomorrow is the only hot day this week. (So far... weather is always subject to change.)

    I need to find a lawyer, a GOOD lawyer that deals with this kind of thing. I also need information about how I go to contact local news stations about my plight. The more attention this brings, the better my chances of them actually doing their job. That's about where I'm at right now. Choice Home Warranty shouldn't be able to get away with crap like this. I'm mad as hell and I'm not backing down.

    I only been with the CHW for 2 months and I've had a really bad experience with this company. My AC went out in my home and the technician came out and determined that the Circuit board and the motor needs to be replaced. I contacted the CHW to find out what they will cover and was told that the warranty will not cover my unit at all. The reason was the system had been misused and abused and for that it will not be covered. Not sure what they mean about misused and abused. I was told that we was still running the system while it was on.

    If a motor goes out how can you still run the system and why would we if it is blowing hot air. Don't make sense. The representative that I spoke with was very rude. He was more mad that we was asking question about the diagnosis than we was about the unit. When I first signed up with this company I was told if it's something they can't fix it will be replaced but now that I am having this big issue then it's not their problem. Please be aware of this company. They have poor customer service. If customer service is not good your company will not thrive. I will not be renewing my contract.

    Reported air conditioner not cooling on 8/21/17. Shortly thereafter, operator from Choice Home called, gave us a claim number and said that we would be hearing from a heating and air company in our vicinity to make an appointment to get the problem taken care of. The company did come the same day to check it out but had to come back at a later date because he didn't have the right part with him. After returning a few days later, he discovered he didn't need the part that he thought he needed and said that the freon that he added to the unit was too much and had to remove some of it.     The last 5 things I've had break. They have something in their fine print which allows them to not cover it. For example yesterday my ice maker broke in my refrigerator and they told me they don't cover ice maker problems. It's in the fine print. Last year my refrigerator in my laundry room broke and they wouldn't cover it because they only cover the refrigerator in your kitchen. Last year my air conditioning system quit working. It was a rusty coil. They said they wouldn't fix it because they won't cover rust. Various other things they wouldn't cover either for small print reasons. This is a very sub par warranty.

    The contract states that it covers systems that (2.) become inoperative due to normal wear and tear and (3.) are in place and in proper working order on the effective date. My AC meets all other conditions listed in contract. The technician came out and determined that the coolant was leaking. A dye test was needed and not covered, so I paid the $225 for it. Before the technician even spoke to anyone, I had Leilani state to me that it was not covered due to rust and corrosion on my unit from 1989, and when I pointed out that my house was built in 2004 and the technician had not given a report, she stated that she could tell from the UV pictures and that it was not covered. Your company will not take any calls or info from the technician. A decision is being made without the full picture. I have been attempting to speak with Jose, but he will not take my calls. The company will not take a report from the technician.

    This decision to not cover the unit is made without full review, and I feel it is being made prior to even getting the pictures, which are taken under UV light and a supervisor, not an expert, is apparently making the decision. I feel a decision was made to not cover it as soon as the claim was filed. The 4 pictures submitted are UV and do not show "rust and corrosion" that directly led to the failure of the coil. The pictures show that it is leaking under the coil and there is not a single picture that shows rust under the coil that is a direct cause of the leak. I bought the warranty as a layer of protection to cover a large repair, but the warranty company does not want to pay out on a big ticket item like they would on $99 disposal. I am asking for this claim to be reviewed and the decision reversed to cover the replacement of the coil and make this system fully operational as stated in the contract.

    I do not feel that the company is considering anything other than a way to exclude it and jumped to that conclusion before they ever talked to the technician and refuse to talk to him or take any other written reports- Leilani clearly stated that it was based on a unit from 1989. It is a shame that the warranty company advertises that it is there to cover such repairs and then when it is really needed, they make the determination to not cover without any of the report to make a good determination or speaking to the technician that saw it, but rather "Leilani" a customer service manager and not the technician that saw it is able to determine the cause of the failure. I see the 99 reviews on the BBB all reflect this same scenario, leading me to believe that CHW does not cover big ticket items, just collects the big premiums.

    After having a written agreement that we charged $105 per hour with a one hour minimum for each work order we accepted, they refused to pay if they denied the claim. We don't go out for free and that was made clear. They basically said we misconstrued their contract and it was our fault for not setting it up on the portal correctly. We have multiple people walk us through it and it was about 2 months in before we figured out they weren't gonna pay about 50% of our invoices.

    We canceled our contract with them and they said they didn't have to pay any outstanding invoices for 1 year that it was in the fine print. We waited a year to collect on the invoices they had agreed they owed us. Then we called to collect. Were told they were too old and were no longer in the system. I've spent countless hours on the phone with these jokers and still got stiffed $1744.56. They are rude and could care less about anything but cheating their vendors and or customers. We work for several warranty companies but this one is a snake.

    The first time I called Choice Home Warranty, I stated that I had a leak in my garage. The agent asked me where was it coming from. I told her I did not know it was the hot water tank or the air conditioner. The agent on the phone told me to get someone to come look at the leak then call her back. My response was, I'm not a plumber or an air conditioner tech I don't know where it is coming from. They did send someone out. He did call the problem in and stated that the AC needed to be flushed. Choice denied the claim. I called them to ask why the claim was denied, they stated It was a Maintenance problem. However for some reason they did fix it. I called them about 2 months later with the air conditioner not getting cool. They sent out a young man to look at the AC. When he arrived at my house, the young man had an minor accident in front of my house with another car.

    The police were called. He looked at the AC on the outside of the house only stating it was the coils. Surely he was preoccupied with the accident. He called Choice to get authorization which took forever. They denied the claim. Stated that it's a Maintenance problem. The worker never looked in any other area and left my house without saying anything. I called him to see what was going on and that is when he told me it was denied. On August 24 I called Choice, stating that the AC was leaking again. She stated did I take care of the coils. I said no and, "How can you be sure it is the coils." She stated that the worker stated that it was the coils on his paperwork. I explained that he only looked outside and he was upset about the accident. She said there is Nothing else to do about the situation. She put me on hold for some reason and I hung up to stop being so frustrated with this company. I have made the wrong CHOICE with this company.
