Need to use better vendors. Looked up the vendor that was sent to repair my AC on the Better Business Bureau and they were rated a D+. Everyone I have spoken to from Choice gives me a different story. Very hot and frustrated! Going on 7 days and AC not been fixed. The vendor has been to my house twice!

My A/C condenser fanned stopped. I called on a Saturday morning and was told it could take 24 hours for a response. I was told I could possibly receive reimbursement if I called my own rep. I called to set it up. Meanwhile, your contractor called and said he could be right out. He was wonderful. This review is not negative against your contractor at all. Being told that I would have to wait all weekend for a response in Florida at 95 degrees is totally unacceptable. I want an immediate response. Thanks to Island Breeze. No thanks to you.

It seems the tank is not covered. Only the mechanical parts. Well there is any just the pilot light starter. The tech did come out. Took my money. Never heard from him. Called him. He said call Choice because they won't tell him anything. So I did and that's when I found out it wasn't covered. Never got my money back which sucks.

After three years and 5 months, my house started have some issues. I called in regards to an a/c defect, and even though the company (Lennox) is responsible to replace all parts, they denied to cover the labor. Let's put as simple as that: you pay, but when you need it you don't get it. You just to a total home warranty because you want peace of mind when issues happen, and what you get? NOTHING! They are on the market to make money... It's that simple. To me a learned experience: Choice Home Warranty... NEVER AGAIN!!!

The tech didn’t return any of my phone calls the day we had the appointment on. I am sure the Choice Representative ps noted the calls they made and couldn’t get him to answer. When they did get him he told them he was going to call as soon as he got off the phone with them. He didn’t call. I lost an entire days pay. He told someone on your end it was raining and that was not true. I cannot spend the time it would take to detail this entire nightmare. He told me he had to come back today and no call no show. AC is still broken. It’s Satu and I’m out of luck until Monday. This company was a joke. A bad joke.

I am not happy with your company. We needed to have our electrical box replaced which was listed on what was covered. Because there was a small amt of dust/dirt in the bottom of the box you refused. I sent a letter which we have never heard from. Your co is the first time our electrician had heard that homeowners were supposed to clean the electrical box.

The technician called and let us know with enough time his ETA. After a chat with him, my tenant agreed a convenient time for her and he arrived when agreed. He explained my tenant what was the problem, fixed it and gave her some instructions to follow after his departure. He said if the problem persists, we needed to call back and let Choice know. Their customer services hung up the phone frequently. Technicians don't bother to call and confirm the appointment. Had horrible experience twice. This company is a scam. Will refuse almost all claims stating "pre-existing" condition. Looks at their reviews online on facebook. They have a very negative rating with BBB due to the above reasons. Class action suit will follow soon if this rip off continues.

This is now the 3rd time I have contacted CHW for an AC issue. Poor customer service to start with. I live in TX and having no ac in the summer is unacceptable. So when it takes them two days to get someone out to look at the AC, that’s ridiculous. Not to mention all the contractors they use do not have stocked trucks with parts. Someone shows us in their personal car with a tool bag and that’s it. How is that supposed to fix anything. They do not like to cover anything on what is being fixed. So needless to say each time I have had to pay out of my own pocket for the repairs. I have had CHW for 3 years now and it’s been 3 years too long. Save your money and do not waste it on this company. CHW; you’re fired!

Dryer will not start. When the technician arrived I explained what had happened and all he had to do was use a little more force on the start dial and that fixed my problem. I understand about your policy of the $45 fee but I have been an understanding policyholder but I think this visit charge was overboard!

My air-conditioning went out on a Wednesday, and it looks like it won’t be working until next Tuesday or Wednesday, due to very slow response time of the warranty claims, and the requirement for more additional information, including pictures. And then long delays between the workmen uploading the information and the company responding. When you call for information about your claim, nobody knows anything.

Was convinced to change home warranty companies last month. Spoke with Phil who convinced me that we would have better coverage at a lower rate. Was told that did not have to wait for the 30 day grace period because I had documentation showing that my home was covered. 2 weeks into the policy, my sewer backs up. Spent hours trying to get a response from the case manager, Jasmine. Finally got an email response (didn’t even have the courtesy to call as I was told she would).
She denied the claim stating that it was a pre- existing condition. If we had issues, we would have filed a claim with our original home warranty company. So basically, sat around in a house with no way to shower or use a toilet waiting for my home warranty company to send help and then told nope, not our problem. Poor service and lied about the coverage. Phil told me that my home was covered on day 1 since I had a prior home warranty policy. Have already signed up with Select Home Warranty. They cover all the same things, rates are better and the deductible is lower. They were up front and said nothing will be covered until after 30 days. Will be canceling Choice Home Warranty as soon as Select policy is in place. I give them 0 stars.

I have had home owner warranty for my house with Choice since 2015. The warranty agreement covers all appliance in the house including AC and Heating. In June 2018, one of the AC unit stopped working. Choice Warranty has refused to cover the repair even though I paid $300 for leak detection. So isn't Choice Home Warranty misrepresenting itself by putting up the ad 'if we can't fix it we replace it'. It is very frustrating with these companies like Choice to pay for home warranty and just when you need their help, they refuse to help. I would appreciate Consumer Affairs to not promote such companies. Thank you.

How ironic, their slogan is "Never Pay for Covered Home Repair", I paid them $35.00-40.00 a month for over two years. Never needed anything from them, my AC went out in July (I live in Florida, I once saw the devil on the corner drinking iced tea). For three days straight I tried contacting their so-call service line... At times I sat the phone on the table...watched all of The Sinner first season with no answer... So I pretended I wanted new service and called that number, not to my surprise, they took the bait, when I explained my real situation the dude got mad and said, he couldn't help me or connect me to the service call.
Here's the other kicker, I also have American Home Shield Warranty, trust me they are just a half of a star better only because they answer the phone. You can see my review on them...still no AC; anyway, I called a number that allowed me to cancel my contract, they seemed happy, who wouldn't, you got almost $1000.00 dollars of my money and didn't have to do nothing, absolutely nothing! Their slogan is right, I never paid for covered home repair, I paid for...nothing.

First, Choice Home Warranty came highly recommended. I will say that their customer service when filing a claim was excellent and fast. However, when it came time for Choice to cover the repair for my A/C, they were not so excellent. You see, we have only owned our house for three months. Our A/C was in perfect working condition and is only a year old. In the past week it hasn't been cooling as it should and we called Choice to get a repair. In the top of the line package that we have it states that a condenser IS covered for repair. Well, guess what was the problem, you guessed it! The repairman said the condenser in my unit was faulty. Now, knowing that a condenser was covered, you would think that there would be no issue with getting a repair or replacement. No such luck. Choice was kind enough to deny our claim stating that the condenser must have been exposed to the elements outside and that was the cause of the condenser short.
Well, dear Choice, it is the outdoors that the unit is sitting in. I bet there actually are "elements" out there like dirt, grass or *gasp*, bugs! OR, they continued, that it could have been a power surge that affected NOTHING else in the entire house, including my second A/C unit, but only fried this one condenser. It didn't fry the whole unit mind you, just the condenser itself. "That must have been what happened," they said. We are filing an appeal and are having our attorney look at their denial and a copy of our agreement with Choice. Hopefully, there will be some sort of an agreement that we can come to. Fingers crossed!

First, let me lead with a disclaimer: I have a policy with Choice Home Warranty, but have never entered a claim with them, so I cannot speak to the quality of claim service. However, I have had the worst experience with this company's sales team, call center and managers of any company I have ever dealt with. Here is my story:
My policy is due to expire within the next month, so I began receiving calls from their sales team trying to get me to renew my policy. Fair enough, as that is their job. However, The calls were coming in the morning during the work week and I (as a United States Marine) could not spend the time to go over options of renewing my policy during the hours they were calling. I politely asked the sales team members to call me in the afternoon after 4 PM so I could discuss it with them. Each one agreed, but the calls continued to come in multiple times EVERY MORNING.
This week, I received 16 sales calls from them between the hours of 8-10 AM. Yesterday, I finally had a few minutes to return one of the phone calls and was connected with an extremely rude sales person who ultimately hung up on me. It was at this point that I tried to contact the company via their website to discuss the rudeness of the previous call. I received an email back stating that they were sorry and that I was removed from the call list.
This morning, wouldn't you guess it, more calls started pouring in! I attempted to contact a supervisor via the telephone number listed on their website with the following results: I was hung up on, transferred to sales instead of a supervisor, hung up on again, told by the call center rep that he hates his job and he cant help me, and then finally on the last call was connected with a supervisor. After explaining this whole story to the supervisor, her resolution to me was that she would let the sales supervisor know, and would remove me from the call list. Thats it. I asked if Choice Home Warranty was wiping their hands clean of me as a customer to which the supervisor replied "No, I'm just doing what you asked".
I find it very surprising that after the good experience I had working with the sales team to get my policy set up initially last year, that the agents I dealt with over the last two weeks were so rude, condescending, and hateful. Although I initially intended to renew my policy for another year, I doubt very seriously I will do that after this experience. Buyer beware.

It was a bit bothersome that we were told that the work would be scheduled between 7:00 am and 11:00 am; we are not yet living at the property, so we had to get up early, and make a special trip to be there. After waiting 4 hours, no repair person had arrived. Upon calling, I was told that he was delayed, but would be there as soon as possible. He eventually arrived at 1:30 pm, meaning that we waited 6 1/2 hours. The repair was made satisfactorily, so I have no concerns in that regard.

We have had Choice for a few years now with no terrible issues, but we have also only had easy petty problems... sink not draining, toilet running etc. However, it seems that something has drastically changed within the company here recently. So, on to the problem now... We filed July 1st that our washer was not working. It took them 2 weeks to find a service tech to come to our area. Since then they have been out THREE times now and still no working washer! The last repairman they sent from SEARS (after replacing the control board and it not fixing the problem) told us that it was not fixable and we needed to replace the machine. What does Choice do? They try to send out yet ANOTHER tech!
So that would mean another '8-5' work day to have to take off and probably another 7-10 days for a part to be ordered that probably still won't fix the issue! We are now 47 DAYS into this nightmare! They must not trust who they send to service your home in the first place. We simply cannot take off for the 4th time to wait for a tech to come out anytime from '8-5'. So today, I have just spent 51 min with Sears trying to get in touch with the tech who came to our home and spoke to Choice about the issue with our washer.
He verbally told us and Choice (my husband and myself both heard the conversation he had with a Choice rep) that he recommended replacement. Choice did not document this nor did Sears. Apparently no one wants to take responsibility for their conversation. Sears won't let me speak to my service tech and Choice has not reached out to them to speak to him either. So I am up to my ears in dirty laundry (literally) and no resolve. I call Choice and wait for at least 15-20 min for a rep and get nowhere, and I have been disconnected from Sears twice after almost an hour trying to speak to a manager! Good grief. I know a couple of people who use American Home Shield and do not have this problem. Go elsewhere. Anywhere but Choice! I hope this saves someone a lot of trouble and time!
Oh and P.S... We had an A/C issue this summer and had to have the capacitor replaced AGAIN (every year!). Apparently I found out from a friend who is an AC repairman in a different location, that you should always ask for a capacitor made in the USA! The ones made in China are not well made and do not last a year at best. Yep... The one put in the past two years and this year is made in China. They use these for home warranty customers because they are cheaper. Good to know... not good to have. Ugh. Our service man said that is all he had on his truck. True? I am not sure. Just a heads up for anyone reading this... ask for USA made capacitor!

I have 2 separate accounts with Choice Home Warranty and have been with them for a number of years. They try to find every reason to not pay a claim especially when it’s a big item like air conditioner. They also hire dishonest technicians who try to cover for them by giving a diagnosis that they know will not be covered under the policy, and then tried to sell me a replacement. DO NOT buy a policy with Choice Home Warranty, they don’t like to honor claims. I was told by their previous customer before but didn’t take heed!

I left three messages for the claims manager I was told to contact over five days and never received a response. Customer support is unprofessional and worthless. I have spent hours trying to get my problems resolved to no avail. I signed up for a five year contract for $2250 and wanted to cancel but am told there is NO refund to which I am entitled if I cancel.
Updated on 10/04/2018: I have spent multiple hours trying to resolve my issue with Choice Home Warranty. I have had calls disconnected after more than 30 minutes on hold, many calls not returned and emails not returned. I was also given insolent answers such as "our pockets are deeper than yours" when I stated I would go to court. An offer of $1500 of the $7200 claim was proposed but I would have to forfeit the remaining almost three years of my contract at a cost to me of over $1300, sign a release of liability and agree not to post any negative comments on social media or any other media. This is unacceptable. After consulting attorneys, I have found that CHW is well known for not honoring their contracts and that there have been many legal proceedings against them.

They will find reasons to deny your claim. Once you file a claim, it is impossible to get in touch with anyone (+90 minute wait times with no answer). My air conditioner stopped cooling my house 7/20. I called Choice to file a claim for repair 7/23/2018 as temperatures here in Texas were in the 100's. A technician was scheduled to come out the next day. I was given the company's name, so I Googled them to see their ratings and check for any customer service reviews. I saw that the technician (Beau from Geaux-Pro Air) had lots of negative reviews. Sure enough, the day that he was scheduled to arrive between 11 am and 3 pm, he failed to show up.
At 3:20 pm we called him to figure out what's going on. He was upset because we interrupted him while he was "eating his lunch." He finally showed up at the house around 3:45 pm. He walks in, sets the downstairs thermostat to 60 and goes to check the outside unit. After about 2 minutes of being onsite he says "you have a refrigerant leak somewhere. You just need a new HVAC system" and leaves. Mind you he never checked refrigerant pressure or even went upstairs to check the attic unit. The next day, CHOICE denies the claim, saying that in order to diagnose the problem, a "leak search" is needed and that is not covered under the home warranty contract. After emailing back and forth with the case manager, I said that I'd pay for the leak test. She said that's fine. "Just send me the invoice, and pictures of the coils and plates."
The technician (ARS/Rescue) took the pictures required and we sent everything to the case manager. Several more days pass with no communication from CHOICE. I posted a few comments asking for status updates and on 7/29 the case manager acknowledges that she received the documents that I submitted and the claim is being reviewed. She said that she would reach out to me once a determination has been made. Their site says appeal can take up to 5 days.
Another week passes and no communication from CHOICE. I attempted to contact them by phone many times, unsuccessfully. During one attempt, I waited on hold for 94 minutes before I finally hung up. I called back and followed the prompts to place a new claim and surprisingly I didn't have to wait before I was able to speak to a representative. Of course he couldn't answer my questions, but he gave me the phone number for the claims department. Needless to say, nobody picked up. After posting a complaint about the service, I received an email from what I assume is the corporate office offering to cover the cost of my leak test as a gesture of good faith. That sounded like I might get someone involved to help move this thing along.
Note: We've had 100 degree temperatures throughout this experience. After I developed a heat rash, I moved my family into a hotel until this could get resolved. With no additional communication, I reached out to CHOICE once again to figure out what's happening with my claim. This morning (8/16/2018) I receive a message denying my claim. Here's the text of their denial: "It has determined the cause of failure of your system is with the evaporator coil, which is leaking refrigerant and must be replaced. Evaporator coils that leak have been exposed to corrosion or acidic materials that have infiltrated the air stream and air flow throughout the house and have damaged the integrity of the coil.
"The acidic agents cause sections of the coil to become corroded and/or rusted which are weakened and develop tiny pinhole or microscopic leak. Please refer to your terms and conditions section F number 1; CHW is not responsible for malfunction or improper operation due to rust or corrosion of all systems and appliances."
The coil is only 3 years old. As is evidenced by the pictures that I sent to them it still looks shiny and new. No corrosion or rust ANYWHERE! Also, I have not received the reimbursement for the leak test that they offered. So for those of you considering purchasing a policy from CHW, look elsewhere. Everything is great when they're taking your money, but when you really need them, they will leave your family hot and bothered in 107 degree weather in Texas for 3 weeks straight and make up bs to deny your repair claim.

I filed a claim on 8/7/18 for my A/C. It stopped working. I live in the deep south and it is HOT. CHW tells me someone will be out on 8/9/18. I can't believe such a huge company can't even find someone to come out the next day. Last year CHW let me sit in a sweltering house (90+ degrees) for days before their incompetent repair people came out to tell me that my unit could not be fixed and that CHW would not replace it. They took payment for the deductible after doing absolutely NOTHING & left no paperwork whatsoever for my records. I had someone else come out & they found the problem and repaired it right away at my own expense. Why in the world did I pay $1,700 for a contract with this worthless company? I'm sure CHW laughed all the way to the bank!

I did everything required when they could not provide a technician. I acquired a technician for an estimate, when he tried to call for approval, CHW representative laughed at him. I appealed their decision and she called today and said if it was covered, they would only pay $500.00. I ask about what they advertise, if they can’t repair it, they will replace it. She said they only cover $500.00. They had convinced me to cover 5 years of maintenance for $1700. Now one year later they want to give me $500 to cancel. I have had it with the delays and run around from this company.

My dishwasher needed servicing. Choice responded with a technician within 1 day, which was great. Within another day, Choice offered a payout as repairs would exceed the cost for a new dishwasher. This is where I'm bothered, the cost for a new dishwasher with similar options and installation, was at least 3x more than what Choice offered. Choice raised the payout to little less than half of what a new dishwasher and installation cost and stated that was the most I could receive and repairing the dishwasher was definitely not an option. When I signed my contract with Choice, I was under the assumption that if an item could not be repaired, it would be replaced with an item similar to what I had. This was the case when I had a home warranty with another company.

Hi, I have been a member with Choice Home Warranty service for two years now. This year I had an issue with my a/c unit in which they sent out a tech from a company with horrible reviews. The company ripped me off by charging me outrageous fees ($800+) for a cleaning. The tech stated my unit needed to be cleaned and threatened to report information to deny my claim if I didn't comply. I explained to him that I had it serviced in December but he cared less of hearing it. The company falsely wrote in the receipt that they performed a leak check but never provided data to support the supposedly test. I called Choice and informed them my unit was still having issues and stressed the fact that I have a sick toddler, elderly mother and a teen living in 100+ degree heat.
The rep advised me to call another company out pay them for leak test data and they're review it. However, I paid another $165 to another company they sent out to my home and they responded by saying the claim is denied for wear and tear along with poor maintenance. Well, I provided proof of over $800 maintenance fee I paid to the first company they sent out. In December of 2017 which was less than six months from the date of my last service in May. Per the contract, service should be provided to your unit twice a year. My family and I are still in heat because they try every way not to pay for claims and repair/replace equipment. Choice is a rip-off and their reps are very rude and argumentative. I made a statement of reporting them to the BBB, the rep’s response was, "Well that's a great place to start because they're under investigation". They definitely need customer service training.

I recently switched to Choice Home Warranty. I switched because they were one of the top rated companies according to my research. This was the first occasion to use the service. Our water heater began leaking and we filed a claim. It took 2 days to get someone out to evaluate the problem. The plumber they sent then had to file a second claim to find out if the repair was covered. I was not pleased to find out that it would be another 4 days before he could actually replace the water heater if it was covered. Naturally the problem was not a covered repair.
On closer examination of my policy it does indicate that the water heater is a covered item, but virtually anything might actually go wrong with a water heater is excluded from coverage. I am disappointed, that the water heater was not covered, but I was not surprised. I had high expectations for this warranty company but based on my first experience, I am highly unimpressed. Filing a claim by phone is challenging. It is nearly impossible to talk with a representative. Filing a claim online is much easier and more efficient. However, although requests for when last serviced, etc. if you know them are not required, it is impossible to continue the online claim process with putting a date in the boxes of these requests. Response to a claim with vendor information is rapid and helpful. Being able to discuss the claim with a representative at Choice Home Warranty is a challenge. Again the most efficient method seems to be via email through the claim form. Too often my phone conversations with CHW representatives have been curt and unhelpful.
Follow up to an incorrect service fee charge was handled the day I raised the issue and the CHW representative was very professional. One negative is that any refund requires 30 days. That seems excessive when any payment that I must make is required immediately. I have experienced the sales people from CHW to be aggressive and at times abrasive. There is a lot of fine print in the warranty, especially related to air conditioning units. This is frustrating because it doesn't feel like what is provided lives up to what is implied through the advertisement and the representation by the sales representatives.

The reason for this review is to help others from experiencing the same frustration as I have experienced as a result of interacting with CHW. From the very beginning I was lied to by omission by the sales person. Having had past experience with another home warranty company and being dissatisfied I had one specific concern. I asked if I could contract my own technicians and was told I could. With that and some other assurances I not only signed my home up but, 5 other rental homes as well. The truth about choosing my own contractor was I could only do it if CHW did not find their own contractor within 24 hours. CHW always found a contractor within 24 hours however, that did not require that the contractor had to show up in a timely manner. There were numerous times that CHW would send me an email setting up an appointment time and date and no one would show up or call ahead to let us know.
After the “no shows”, I asked about getting my own contractor and found out the truth about CHW’s policy. Not only did they have the 24 hour rule but if I met that criteria, any contractor I found would have to agree to their rules and payment policies. Any charge over what CHW would pay I would be responsible for. The extra payment was not the problem. The problem was, it is next to impossible to find reputable contractors willing to agree to CHW’s terms and payment schedule. Because of CHW’s payment schedule, some of their contractors are sub-standard. One showed up to clear out a clogged drain with a hand drill and cheap flimsy snake and of course couldn’t do the job and just left leaving with the problem unresolved.
I had an A/C unit that the CHW contracted technician said needed to be replaced and CHW refused to pay for it. So I had to get my own contractor and he said the reason for CHW’s reason for refusing to pay for a new unit was not the cause for the A/C failing. He included a description of why the A/C failed in his bill. One way you can tell when you’re dealing with an unscrupulous company is how easy it is to cancel a contract when you are dissatisfied. The first CHW representative I talked to to cancel would not cancel my contracts after numerous requests to do so. I finally had to hang up and call back. After convincing the second representative that I had had way too many examples of poor service and threatened to sue CHW and it was impossible to change my mind she cancelled my contract.

They sent a tech out to my house who informed me what the problem was, told me that it would cost $3600 to fix (would not break down cost by parts and labor), took $45 service fee even though services were not performed, told me that Choice would likely deny because they "never pay for expensive repairs even though it states that parts are covered" and then told me Choice would be calling me with a claim decision shortly and left. Choice never called me. I did find an email stating that they are denying my claim because the duct work in my system had been "modified and they do not cover modification".
I have lived in this house since it was built in 2018, NOTHING in this house has ever been modified. I called them, and they told me that a claim counselor would be in contact with me within 5 days. It's August in Texas with temps over 100. Since my experience I have read countless reviews of similar things happening to their customers. Choice defrauds their customers by collecting a monthly payment or bulk year payment for a warranty that they never intend to repair anything. It is false advertising, fraud and theft. They advertise on everything and promise you that they do the same that until they get your money and your personal information. I was thinking I had a warranty with the company which is going to help me out in time of crisis such as spilling water, plumbing, leak, electrical system and you name it. As a homeowner, you wanna avoid stress and extra unexpected cost during time of crisis and as a careful person you buy a home warranty. When that happened you call them and they will tell you a technician will contact you.
There was a leak which cause it electrical short on my break night portrait that in a 4 days the so-called technician showed up after I made a phone call to him. Very unprofessional but anyways I wanted my problem to be solved and was able to obtain a callback time from that technician. Waited for that technician were about three hours eventually showed up. He went around the house and looked and then said, “Your contract would not cover all these but I'll give you a deal to help you out.” I refused his side deal because I had confidence that my home warranty was reliable. That technician charged me $45 for he showed up. Very unfair, the working Americans know how hard or how many hours they work to gate that much money but a person whom sent out from the company who is charging you money every month promising you are covered in time of crises does nothing but tell you that he cannot do anything except taking money.
Choice Home Warranty said denied coverage for the mere reason that it was not within contract. I was very disappointed by myself not by fake company which promising homeowners things that does not do accept charging money out of their account merely sending out another people called technicians. When the reality comes you face frustration because they're not doing anything for you except charging you more money for doing nothing. The woman whom I spoke to over the phone to complain about the situation said she was the only one who can accept or deny any claim and she was the only rule and beside her there was nobody else to make any decision at all. CHOICE HOME WARRANTY is a one person show and it is possible to imagine to be under one person mercy in time of crisis. I was cheated, ripped and disrespected by this CHOICE HOME WARRANTY (CHW), and I am writing this so that nobody else be in the same situation.

The service representatives gave little or no service to me that was helpful. They claimed that they could not find a service provider (plumber) to assist me. Then they told me to find my own provider, and Choice Home Warranty would reimburse me. When I called three different plumbers, each of them told me they do not do business with Choice Home Warranty because of the company's refusal to reimburse. Finally, I located a plumber who would do the work if I were to pay him directly. Choice Home Warranty was notified that such an arrangement had been made, but they refused to give permission for the plumber to proceed. I paid the plumber, but I also cancelled my contract with Choice Home Warranty, which has a "C" rating with Better Business Bureau.

I just purchased a new home and right away went for a warranty program. I researched and read reviews and Choice was the first one that appealed to me as having the most coverage included in their packages. When I signed up they couldn't do enough to get my business! Even gave me a sweet deal for being over 55 and taking multiple years!
We moved in and my fridge died after two weeks of living there - naturally I called them to send a technician over. The technician came and told me that Choice won't cover it - he said this was the worst warranty company they ever had because they never cover anything!!! True to his word - they told me it was a previous issue that they wouldn't cover even though the fridge worked when I moved in and the inspector I hired to review the appliances gave it the thumbs up - the fridge was only 9 years old. Needless to say I fought the good fight and nothing! I'm done with them - run the other way - btw, the technician they sent did nothing! He gave a bunch of bogus advice and was ready to have me call him on the side to fix the fridge for $700! Niiice!

This is the second claim I needed to do and it's also the second time I had to find my own technician and use the reimbursement process. Both times the technicians who were assigned were not available, or not reliable, which delayed my repair, then CHW had to look for a new technician, then I'd get an email stating that they couldn't find one and offered me the reimbursement option. I don't understand why I can't seem to get service from the persons assigned to the job and I end up having to find someone on my own, pay out of pocket, and then get reimbursed.

Choice Home Warranty is the worst possible excuse for a home warranty. I sent them two claims one for a water heater and then for a refrigerator. The water heater they denied because it had rust, yes it was 15 years old, and rust occurs, their job is to replace, that is the whole idea of a warranty. They made a similar excuse for the fridge, bottom line they will not replace anything, I should have stuck with Old Republic. I add another post after I try to get a refund, so if you want a company that will do nothing but send out repairmen to your home and then say: our claim was submitted on 06/25/18 and was assigned to A to Z Appliance and Plumbing Services on 06/25/18.
"On 07/03/18 the technician submitted details pertaining to your system failure. It has been determined that the water heater elements have failed. These elements are not able to be replaced as they are rusted to the unit. Unable to replace the elements without damaging the tank. Please refer to your terms and conditions section F number 1; we are not responsible for malfunction or improper operation due to rust or corrosion of all systems and appliances." Again water heater was 15 years old... A sad company, on to the Better Business Bureau.

When I first signed up for Choice because their low rate of $45 per visit, but soon I realize that it is not worth it because Choice DO NOT cover the cost of the repair if it requires a new part. I own three houses within 20 miles, and I use three different home warranty companies to see the difference. Choice Home Warranty by far is the worst in both customer service and do not compensate on parts, but it is a simple repair of leaks, then that is done after you paid the $45 service call. Now, after using 2/3 companies for more than 10 years. We only switched to Choice for about 3 years now. We are going to switch it back when the end of the year term is complete. Because if you tried to switch earlier, the way they calculate how much to give back to you is so confusing.
This happened because I mistakenly recommended my sisters' families and my parents to Choice about several years ago, they all have switched back to their original home warranty companies to avoid headaches even they have to pay a bit more per visit. In the end, it is still cheaper to go with the other companies because they cover 100% of the cost of the repair and the PARTS. Choice seems to find excuses every time NOT to cover any of the parts cost even if it is very little. This review has nothing to do with the companies/technicians that come out to fix the repairs, most are wonderful and helpful people.
It is always when they phoned/explained the issue to Choice representative, then they come back and tell me that Choice won't cover it the parts. I even had a technician told me that Choice had never covered the parts when he worked on a job, so he was not surprised. When I called back to Choice, I had to speak to 3 different representatives and when I told them that I was going to change the company, the woman on the phone said that she will pay for the parts this one time which was only $105. I cannot imagine if the parts were over a thousand.
Again, I recently had a drainage issue that backed up BOTH of my kitchen sinks. I have two sinks in my kitchen, one small on the left side of the stove and one large on the right side of the stove with a garbage disposal. So, I called Choice to explained that my garbage disposal and sinks are not working properly. The plumber came out a week later and unplugged sinks and tried to call home warranty about fixing the parts for the garbage disposal because it was not working. They told him that he can only fix one thing. I will have to call Choice again to create a new claim in order for him to repair the garbage disposal even though I mentioned that on the phone when I made the original phone call. The plumber said Choice wants me to pay $45 service fee twice.
This sounded unreasonable even to him. The plumber did not want to charge me $45 twice so he left and said Choice representative will contact me about the issue. Needless to say, they have not. I am not going to call them again for the garbage disposal issue, it will just be another waste of time and money. I will just need to switch to another company that is more understanding. The reason we pay for Home Warranty/Insurance company is to cover our worries and the reasonable costs that associate with repairs. If I have to pay the monthly fee and the service cost and all the parts, why do I need a HOME WARRANTY?

That doesn't exactly give me peace of mind when my appliances are on the line. The most recent experience was having a garage door motor replaced with the CHEAPEST one on the market. I purchased a 3 year Total Plan from Choice Home Warranty when I purchased my home in October 2016. In June 2017 the air conditioner stopped cooling. I called Choice Home Warranty, they arranged for a service technician of their choice to examine the unit. Upon his arrival, the technician had no uniform, no state license posted on his truck, and his only tools were a set of gauges and a tank of freon. He had no other tools or ability to determine why it was low on freon or where a leak might be.
The air conditioner worked during the Spring of 2018, in May it again quit cooling. I called Choice Home Warranty, they could not provide a technician for 5 days. They authorized me to obtain a service on my own and to be reimbursed for repairs. I have a service connected disability making breathing difficult in extreme heat, so I opted for the reimbursement program. The technician determined that the air conditioning unit was not repairable due to extensive damage from a leak. With much difficulty over 2 days he was finally able to submit his findings, which were subsequently denied by Choice Home Warranty. I received an email justifying their decision:
1. Are located inside the confines of the main foundation of the home or attached or detached garage (with the exception of the exterior pool/spa, well pump, septic tank pumping and air conditioner); and2. Become inoperative due to normal wear and tear; and
3. Are in place and in proper working order on the effective date of this home warranty contract. This contract does not cover any known or unknown pre-existing conditions. Coverage is for occupied, owned or rented residential property.
Having breathing issues present, I had the unit replaced, while I attempted to resolve the issue with Choice Home Warranty. Trying to reach the appeals person [Ashley **] was very difficult game of phone tag, however when accomplished, her decision was that the best she could do was obligate Choice Home Warranty to a settlement of $150.00 on a $4000.00 repair, with no indication of how she justified that figure. This is a company that consumers should avoid like the plague as their only skill is to say no, and should you be successful in getting someone there to accept some responsibility, they do not possess the ability to inform consumers on how or where they obtained the figure. UPDATE: after posting this article on a website they offered to buy me out of my warranty at a depreciated value hoping I will go away.

They said they would get someone out there and would send us an email with when the tech was coming. We said, "Well we can't stop the water very well." We turned off our unit. Today we came home from work and noticed that the water continued to run through the walls into our living room underneath the walls. We called AGAIN since we didn't have a response from them. They stated there was nothing they could do, that no techs would respond to them. After saying this was doing more damage by the minute we asked what they would do about it. They said we could outsource the service and HOPE that it's covered or wait. Which mind you we have to pay upfront.
They also said that they don't cover water damage at all even if it comes from the unit, which we told them was leaking. Which just did thousands of dollars of damage. This came from the unit that WE reported was actively leaking. This is so incredibly disappointing. Not only were they rude on the phone. They said they wouldn't release a list of people that we could possibly contract out to do the work!!!
Update: We just got contacted to have an agent come tomorrow at 11-3, which is 2 1/2 days of the water leaking, and more damage being done. They also said they have no emergency contacts or people who would help. If you're considering working with this company, reconsider. The next day I waited for him and ended up calling him at 5:30, no answer. I then text him asking was he coming to complete the repair. He texted back 15 mins later, apologizing saying that the vendor he used didn't have the part and it would be another two days with another vendor. He also asked me to send him the serial number for the refrigerator. Which lets me know he never put in the approval request.
We then call Choice, they informed us that if we went with another servicer that it would take two extra days, which we did. Choice also stated that Slaughter Appliance never submitted a repair approval. So they assigned another servicer whom showed up on time (6 Aug 2018), with his tools and multimeters. He found that the motherboard was inoperable, called it in, got the approval but we are still waiting to hear back from him for a repair time and date. This basically means that if you have an appliance out of a manufactures' warranty period and over 5 years old, it is not covered by Choice Home Warranty. Despite what they say when they sell you the warranty, they use this excuse to avoid paying for any large repairs on older equipment. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

As an agreement to the purchase of our new home, the seller agreed to purchase us a home warranty. My husband selected Choice Home Warranty's and we were comfortable with what we read. Within a month of moving into our home, we noticed our dishwasher was not functioning as it should. We called Choice who sent a tech out. The tech stated the control panel was shot and he would report it back to Choice. My husband received a call promptly from Choice advising the cost was not worth the replacement and would offer us 150.00 to clear this up. My husband explained that we would not be able to even replace that dishwasher for that amount and we wanted our appliances to match in color and name brand. The case was then assigned to a case manager. The case manager called my husband - he explained our position and was then offered $300.00 - AGAIN NOT an amount which could replace our dishwasher.
The cheapest one we could find of the same color and brand was $480.00. Again was told by the case manager the claim would be assigned to the manager. He was not provided with a phone number or name and still has not received a callback. He calls every day and sits on hold for 35-50 min to get someone on the phone and then hangs up. For almost a month now, we have been without a dishwasher - which didnt have to be a big deal IF WE DIDNT HAVE THE WARRANTY coverage. My husband picked up the best plan so now I worry if a more expensive appliance or system is damaged we will have to deal with this again. What if this was our heating/ac system - are we going to be offered 300 and think that the claim is settled... So here he again on HOLD again waiting to get someone on the phone... Disappointing to say the least with all the positive reviews we had read.

Our realtor purchased this warranty for our new home. When we had a AC leak we called CW. What a nightmare. They do not send someone immediately. A barrage of back & forth calls & emails. Finally days later we got someone out & the condenser pump he replaced was not covered. Another $275. He wanted to do another test for $300 & that wasn’t covered either. The part he replaced didn’t need replacing & a flood happened again after installation. When called back He said the AC was at the end of its life & would cost $4,500-5,000 to replace. They would not cover it under the warranty though we paid for the coverage.
We paid out of pocket for a local company to come out & it cost us $5,000 to replace AC & Furnace. They did a great job. I contacted people at least 20-25 times. A different person each time, no continuity: recreating the story each time. Finally I got the Supervisor & they said they didn’t want us as a customer & refunded our $650 we paid. This company & service is a sham. They look to make money for their contractors & do not honor their contracts. Their customer service is both frustrating & unprofessional. They try to dissuade using their service by their poor customer service.
We since have gotten American Home Shield & they have been fantastic. One conversation with a rep, no long hold times Choice Warranty hold times were 25-50 minutes) & a contractor is on its way. Full coverage for what we paid for; we have saved thousands. We liked them so much we purchased a second contract for our 2nd home. Top of the line replacement & no aggravation with American Home Shield! Don’t throw your time, money & breath away with Home Choice Warranty. If I could rate them “0” I would.

Choice Home Warranty convinced me to change home warranty companies by offering services they CANNOT provide. I live way out in the Country of East Texas & currently our temps have consistently been 100 degrees plus. I have paid Choice Home Warranty IN FULL for the entire year of 2018 which is a MAJOR MISTAKE on my part. I also have coverage for my Water Well, etc. and unfortunately have developed a leak in some of the plumbing pipes. Filed a claim Today and was told a vendor would be contacting me within 4 hours. DID NOT HAPPEN!!! Instead I received an email from Choice stating they could not locate a vendor to make the necessary repairs. Instead Choice offered me what they call a "buyout" meaning I could find someone myself, pay for the repairs myself and PRAY Choice would reimburse me.
So much for them doing what I paid them to do. Choice Home Warranty DOES NOT CARE about me and my family being without water and in the current extreme temps. They just don't care. But, they do care about the almighty dollar and this is what I mean by me paying them in full being a Major Mistake. "They got my money and I got the Shaft". Exact same thing happened to my Daughter from Choice Home Warranty. Bottom line is, if you're looking for a Home Warranty and Choice calls or contacts you, change your email, phones; everything and run like hell away from Choice Home Warranty. NEVER give them your email because you will get upwards to 15-20 emails daily (of course using names that DO NOT identify themselves as being Choice Home Warranty).
I WILL BE CHANGING HOME WARRANTY COMPANIES MOST LIKELY SOONER THAN LATER. But, let me clarify the buy out BS. I find a repairman, he or she comes out and determines the problem, then they must contact Choice and then Choice tells them what they will pay to make the repairs which in most cases would not be enough to pay for their gasoline. And of course I selected the "buy out" and the repairman's fee I normally more than Choice will pay, therefore I am stuck with paying the balance. What a racket. In closing my STRONG suggestion when considering a home warranty company, DO NOT give Choice Home Warranty the time of day.

Bought this earlier in the year then our air conditioner went out. They sent someone out then I got an email that was a canned message about why compressors are not covered. It looked like it was written by a lawyer and an engineer and said the compressor could have gone out due to several different causes and was not due to normal wear and tear. One of the reasons was excessive heat. This is Florida - it is hot! I talked to some people at work and didn’t find a single person who had a home warranty and got something paid for. Also, my regular a/c person is signed up with Choice but won’t accept their jobs because they don’t pay the provider. He said he was stuck for an expensive part so he won’t deal with them anymore. I am cancelling and requesting a refund. Of course, it has to be in writing!

I am unsure of my rating at this time. I was given inaccurate information when agreeing to this contract. I was told it would be immediate response or no longer than 24 hours. Now. I am told it will be about 5 days wait for one and 7 days wait for the other. I was rejected originally for my first request because they say I wasn't covered even though it was. After reading the contract there are too many exceptions on what's covered. The verdict is out until the two claims are completed.

I have had Choice Home Warranty coverage for about a year before I needed to use it. I opted for the optional coverage of my saltwater pool, because when something on it breaks it is very expensive. I made sure to ask the salesman, very explicitly, to make sure my salt cell, and all the other parts of my saltwater pool would be covered under Choice Home Warranty with the pool coverage. He assured me that it was all covered. I asked again to make sure that when my salt cell stopped working, they would cover it. He again told me that it would.
Fast forward a year. The salt cell goes out and I put in my claim. They write back and tell me that they don't cover saltwater pools. WHAT? I appealed this decision and they said they couldn't and wouldn't cover the salt cell on my pool, but they would schedule a service technician to come out and see what was wrong. It was a problem with the salt cell and sensor. Choice told me they would not cover it.
I again called, this time, to cancel the coverage. See, the whole point of the Home Warranty is to cover the cost when things break, and they didn't hold up to what their salesman told me on the phone. I talked to Jasmine from Choice Home Warranty. She was not helpful at all. She told me that it didn't matter if the salesman from their company LIED to me on the phone, or that I had them recorded, stating that they would cover a saltwater cell replacement. She would not honor their word-of-mouth contract and fix my pool.
I then told her I wanted to cancel the policy because they are liars and won't stand behind what their salesman verbally tell people on the phone when they sign up. I had the contact in front of me and it clearly stated that the contract was for $1,642.50, and then listed all my covered* items (though they apparently refuse to actually cover anything when it breaks). It also listed the optional coverage that I had, including the pool coverage, but it does not state that there is additional financial cost. This, to me, appears that they have rolled the cost of the additional coverages into the price they clearly list as the contract price, since it is listed in column format with the coverage price at the top, followed by all the coverages. Jasmine tells me that I will get refunded $862.42. I told her, "NO, you owe me $1,123.18." My contract price was $1642.50 for 42 months of coverage. That is $39.11/month.
I had the contract in place for 12 months, so I should be refunded $1,173.18 minus a $50 cancellation fee. She told me that the optional coverages were about $19/month, so my calculations were wrong. I told her that the contract showed that my price was $1,642.50, and it didn't show any additional charges beyond that, but it did list my optional coverages under it. She told me, "Too bad, this is the amount that we will refund."
I asked for her supervisor, and she told me that there was no one higher than her to transfer me to. I told her that I would be letting everyone I could how terribly they treat customers at Choice Home Warranty and how unhelpful and not courteous she had been. She didn't care, told me I would get my check in the mail soon and goodbye. Choice Home Warranty is a rip-off. Don't use them. Ever. I have audio recordings of both the salesman telling me that I was covered, and Jasmine telling me that they wouldn't cover it. I am considering legal action against them for false advertising, breach of contract (the verbal one from the salesman).

I have a policy with Choice Home Warranty. I prepaid for 6 years for three houses. My complaint is not with regards to their ripoff practices of claiming they cover something but then exclude everything related to it in their user agreement so they get to deny claims. My complaint is with regards to a new issue that is fundamentally wrong and unacceptable.
On 07/27/2018, I filed a claim for a heating system that was not working properly. There was no pressure and the furnace was not working. First, Choice made an appointment with a vendor that did not show up. I called countless times and they did not show up. Then they redirected me to a contractor that first did not respond but then Choice kept redirecting me to him and finally came to my house, claimed that I have multiple broken valves that need to be replaced. My claim was immediately denied because Choice doesn't cover anything related to valves.
This so-called contractor blasted Choice and said he would be willing to fix all my problems. I paid him first 45 dollars which is the Choice fee and then he took 200$ to buy all the parts needed. I then called multiple times and there was no response. I attempted to look for his business and I didn't see his business anywhere online or over the phone. He of course never picked up and literally stole my money through Choice.
False advertising and denying claims is one thing but to send thieves into people's homes who are not real contractors that claim the system is broken and steal money from people is simply unacceptable. I contacted Choice multiple times and of course they claimed it's not their fault. They are allowing thieves to rip people off through their system. They don't seem to vet their contractors and this is scary.
This person knowingly made false claims that would be denied so he can steal money from me and Choice claims no responsibility whatsoever which is abhorrent and unacceptable. The system was fine and the water was just turned off, this person made false claims just to steal money through Choice and they want to take no responsibility whatsoever, they blamed me for all of this and refuse to give me a refund for what's remaining on my term.

Don't waste your money on this company! One year home warranty was provided by seller. 2 months after purchasing house, AC goes out. They sent an AC company over that told me the AC has a stem similar to a bicycle. The cap was loose and Freon leaked out. However, repairman certainly wanted to sell me a new unit through his company and even offered financing! He even had his office call me. They refilled Freon, tested pressures and all was fine (according to them). All was not fine and a few days later, it's out again. I did not trust them and had to pay thousands to replace AC unit.
One month later, over the stove microwave stopped venting and couldn't cook without smoking up the house. They sent someone out who said it was broken and they would replace in one week. Their repairman took my 65.00 copay and never saw or heard from him again! 2 weeks later they sent someone else out who agreed it needed to be replaced. However, Choice Warranty denied my claim! No happy with them at all!

Using what I (and other Air Conditioning knowledgeable advisors I discussed this with) believed to be inconsequential and expected due to this being outdoor for 11 years “rust” issues to deny this claim was unreasonable, therefore I cannot say I have been pleased with your company. Using this criteria I believe you must never pay for any a/c unit and they all must have some spec of rust somewhere if they have been outdoors! Highly disappointed.
