After waiting for multiple people promising me they would get me help, the best they could do was 8 days away. So I found someone that came out in 2 hours. Then after I'm told the stoppage wouldn't be covered. Your phone staff interrupt and your policies are not clear. I am calling my attorney general, the Better Business Bureau and anyone else I can think of. I want out of my contract. My parents have a warranty with another company and I am signing up with them.

I went online as asked for home warranty quotes from 4-5 companies. I chose one and purchased said warranty. In the meantime, I have received at least 1 call a day (today I was called 5 times) from representatives from Choice Home Warranty regarding my quote request and selling a home warranty. I asked to be removed from their call list on no less than 4 occasions - I am hoping that my 2nd request today will be effective. Additionally, I have received no fewer than 2 emails from Choice Home Warranty EVERY DAY since I requested the quote. I have a call log full of ignored calls and an inbox full of emails. Even if they were the best option for a home warranty, I would not choose them - Why would anyone choose to be harassed? Don't give them any of your contact information, or you will never be able to get them to leave you alone!

Do NOT and I repeat do NOT buy a warranty from this company. It's a scam!! Long story short, I had my furnace break and they refused to cover it. Save your money and go with any other company! I went through the appeal process and case manager could never be reached, barely called back from left messages and never answered emails. Canceled policy and now have to pay $3600 for new furnace.

They will not repair a air conditioning unit for more than $375.00. If you fight they will offer $700. -- That's it! And replace a water heater, forget it. No matter what the service tech who actually looks at the unit tells them they say 1) you didn't properly maintain the unit and or 2) they say the unit shows signs of restriction. How here is the scam. If the compressor is not working you can't tell if the coils are restricted. They know that that why they say show signs. Stay clear, pay the extra money and go to American Home Shield.

Updated on 10/21/2019: So read previous review "Abysmal and we got scammed" for context. After weeks of being treated pretty poorly by Choice warranty, they see my review here and offer to pay us 272.10 for the board. But they still won't talk to the technician who is advising that the board replacement if a temporary fix and the right thing to do is to have furnace replaced. Choice continued to stay adamant and I was left with no choice is to begin to the process of refuting credit card charges for the purchase of the warranty on the grounds of not delivering what they promised in the sales cycle. Also after reaching out to me with a paltry offer, they have gone awol again.
I have further proof from literally every heating and cooling company I spoke to in the process of getting 2nd, 3rd opinion on my heater that Choice Home warranty is by far the worst of the lot. Being a national company they don't care for doing right by their customer since they have volume that makes up for their deplorable service. I was asked to choose local companies that do a much much much better job. I write this review in the hopes that more are warned and this company is forced to mend their ways.
Original review: Based on the reviews here we bought our home warranty with Choice Warranty. They spoke big game during the sales part of our relationship and were pushing us hard on getting warranty with for 3-5 years. I am so thankful we stuck to our guns and said we will try with a year first. We bought the warranty in July and called them couple of weeks ago because our furnace was not starting up. They send a technician after a few follow ups and a few days. The technician assessed the situation that it needs a new control board because it is a 30 year old furnace. The warranty claims department denies the claim saying something super lame about dust on the control board when I have proof in the pictures the technician took that it was pretty clean!!!
We have been services the furnace every year since we moved into the house. Choice Warranty was incredibly stubborn and refused to change their assessment and better still they did this even without talking to the technician; solely on their conclusion from the pictures. Further the technician itself told us that Choice is known for this sorta scamming behavior and not doing right by the customer. Please be warned never to use them. Their company doesn't have ethics and makes no qualms about being so.

My GE dishwasher stopped working, contacted Choice Home Warranty, they arranged for a repair tech immediately. He came out and assessed the problem. Then Choice sent me an email stated they were replacing the unit, then the fun began. I was assigned a case manager because they offered me $179.99 as a pay out and I refused. My dishwasher was a higher end model costing minimum $400 to $500 plus tax plus installation. Case manager was rude with a superior attitude in our phone conversation. She offered $250 total stating the repair would cost $252. I said repair the unit, she said, "We aren't offering that."
I said, "What about taxes and installation," she stated, "We don't cover that." She rudely repeated, "we have increased our offer from $179.99, that's all we're going to give you." I said, "The repair is $252, you're only GIVING me $250." Keep in mind I paid $1050 for this policy. This experience with their case manager was a total nightmare. Would not recommend Choice Home Warranty.

My first experience with someone with your company last Friday was HORRIBLE. He was pushy and kept talking over me so I hung up on him. Our a/c stopped working and Choice sent out their expert to check it out. He was confident that the repair was covered. I reviewed our policy and the condenser IS covered. They denied the claim saying it had overheated due to a blockage in airflow. Nothing ever blocked the airflow. I maintained the system and kept everything in good shape. On the worksheet from the mechanic they sent out, he wrote: "In good condition" when describing the system. When we challenged their decision, the rep said the decision was made by their "committee" and that there was no chance of a change in their decision.
The rep checked to see if he could do anything for us and he said he couldn't because we had a claim earlier in the year for our range. It was covered, but they don't cover the replacement cost. They depreciate covered items, so if you want to have something replaced, plan on paying. Regarding the a/c, we spoke with a manager and got nowhere. We now have a new a/c WE paid $6,200 for. This company has been a real disappointment.

Terrible service and coverage. Choice provides a false sense of security when providing insurance. I had a water heater go out on me. They sent out a technician who came out for 5 minutes or less and determine the issue was sediment damage by just taking a picture. I was informed this void out the warranty and I would be liable for 100% of the cost. Of course the contact who I could barley understand and was driving an unmarked white van offered to do it for "cheap" and give me a good deal. Whole thing felt like a scam from the get go and this has been the worst Home Warranty I have dealt with.

I purchased this home warranty after I received a phone call and looked at some reviews. Agent told me that they covered exactly the same thing as my other warranty company but they charged less. WRONG. They hardly cover anything. Plus I have had to literally fight on every claim they did pay for. They also never have techs to be able to come repair anything. They tried sending techs from states long ways away from me. Then they told me I should get my own person to repair and then they would reimburse me. It took a month to reimburse and that was if we didn't have a dispute over what they were going to pay. Also their website says they fix or replace. Wrong. They don't give you enough to replace. My other warranty company fixed or replaced on a fair price and all the things I had wrong last year would have been covered. Most this company disputed or denied. Run as fast as you can away from this company.

Then you found someone else and made another appointment, which the same happened, but you called them and it took one month or more to get a plumber out to my house, then when they call you to see if your company will go further you tell them you do not cover septic, but I payed extra for my septic, roof and appliances to be covered in my contract. Choice Home Warranty said they would send a check to reimburse me for the average price of this part even though we are no longer able to get the part. Not a good value. I signed up for a 6-year warranty to avoid a catastrophic loss. However, after reading through the details of the contract I found there are numerous exclusions and limits of coverage. Air conditioning units above 12 seer are not covered. Heating and air conditioning units seem to require professional maintenance twice a year to maintain coverage. Water heaters over 75 gallons are not covered, 80 gallons is a very common size.
Electrical does not cover sub-panels, broken wires or running new wires and has a $500 limit for a 6-year contract term. Plumbing excludes damage from frozen pipes, and toilets and also has a $500 limit her contract term. Repair of fans excludes fans, blades and belts. Ductwork repairs exclude most every problem that could possibly occur and also has a $500 limit per contract term. Additional septic coverage for an extra $500 includes only one pump out her contract term. Maximum coverage for ANY claim is $1,500. In conclusion, this policy does not protect against catastrophic losses. I will cancel my policy and just pay for things directly. It will likely be much cheaper in the long run.

Our AC went out- due to blower wheel malfunction. The warranty company sent someone out who said it was failure due to added stress resulting from debris and/or improper balance of the manufacture’s setting. Like a homeowner would have any control over that. Our unit is enclosed and pictures show there was not excessive debris. We got a second opinion in which they determined it to be normal age/wear/tear type thing. (The CHW case manager even admitted they didn’t know the age of our unit) Besides the fact the wheel was removed/cleaned under a maintenance plan less than 2 years ago, plus other services since that never indicated the blower wheel being close to failing. I appealed the decision on a Monday. I tried contacting the case manager assigned to it for 2 1/2 days.
Finally, she called me back on Thursday after my sending another email to CHW Wednesday. The outcome of our phone call was I could have the 2nd opinion company call the auth department and we MIGHT get it overturned (highly unlikely per the case mgr)- which we'd be reimbursed their (CHW) rate of repair, which is "much, much less" than what we actually paid. Or, we could take the case manager's offer of $250 IF we commit to renewing our contract, which expires within 2 weeks. Feels like a shady deal to me.
Here's $250 towards something that should have not been denied in the first place (we were out $45 service fee + $300 repairs). I've read several reviews here regarding the same piece of equipment being denied coverage over and over. This is the only reason I decided to write a review, since there seems to be a pattern with this part being denied. We’re not sure what we’re going to do from here, but thought it relevant to others considering a home warranty. We’ve kept the home warranty for peace of mind on those more expensive repairs, but seems like they won’t be approved for coverage regardless.

July 2019 one of my toilet was not flushing, small amount water was back up in my bathtub, I called for the services with Choice Home Warranty which I have with them for 2 years. The contractor came and said it was the outside pipe leaking and home warranty would not cover the repair, he quote me $2400 to repair the damaged pipe. I requested picture or proof for the busted pipe, locations of the leak etc...I told him if he did not use a camera sneak to go in the drainage, how did he find out the pipe was busted. No water found on the ground. He said it will cost $350 to use the camera sneak and home warranty would not cover it. I called a license plumbing company, the tech came with a larger sneak and clear the toilet blockage in 45 min. I paid $175 and he did not need the camera sneak.
2nd event happened in my other property. The 2nd floor bathtub faucet handle was leaking tiny drip water. I called Choice Home warranty for the service repair. I insisted NOT to use the same lousy contractor. This time the tech said it cannot find the same brand of plumbing. It was an older kind, need to replace the whole unit, however, it need to break the tile wall, open a hole from back of the wall to install the new faucet, and closed the wall back that required different contractor. He is just a plumber. Home warranty do not cover the opening and closing of the wall. He quoted $700 out of the pocket to do the whole thing.
I called a regular plumber, he found the part at Home depot, changed the part and fixed the leak. I paid for his time to Home depot and cost me $150. Why on earth I am paying annual fee plus services call that did nothing but tried to rip off home owner?? Can they find license legit professional people for repair? It is time to change to another home warranty.

After passing the buck by Choice for over four days, choice tells me the freon is not covered and therefore I am stuck with a broken fridge. This is unacceptable to me because why did it take me calling them over and over again to find out this information. Choice says if they can not fix the problem they replace it and in my case not only do I have to buy another fridge but I also am out of money for all of my food that went bad due to a fix by their contractor that did not last two weeks. Very disappointed with Choice. Not sure if I want to continue to be a customer of this company.

Choice Home Warranty is a SCAM!! These crooks have no instructions when you sign up and they agree to cover your home systems, leaving you to their fine print when you actually file a claim. I filed a claim on my AC, which was the same condition it was in when I signed up for my warranty and had no work done by anyone, and the tech they sent out said the system was old and the compressor was shot and I needed a new upgraded system due to my high ceilings, all if which I knew and was why I paid over $1,000 for my policy. They called him an hour after he left, stating to him that the compressor was a 1.5 ton and my unit was a 2 ton, so they wouldn't pay anything because of "improper parts installed", going against what their own tech was telling them.
Again, they had no pre-inspection, didn't ask me to get an inspection, and never asked for pictures to show/verify what my systems were like when they agreed to cover them, all of which I would have complied with. The tech from Metro Heating and Cooling replaced my compressor with an old used but correct 2 ton compressor to get me by with 2 dogs in the 88* house, but the compressor he put in kept tripping the breaker, requiring me to go reset it daily. After about a week, I went to reset it and sparks shot out of the breaker box and so I left it off, filing another claim for my electrical breaker box with Choice. The technician came out and inspected the system, sent pictures and his findings to his supervisor, who sent a diagnosis to Choice saying the wiring in the breaker box was bad due to normal wear & tear and normal use.
Before the tech got it put back together, I got an email from Choice, quoting the contract that they don't cover "any damage due to freezing, fire or power surges" and the breaker box was "on fire due to an arcing AC disconnect" - NONE OF THAT WAS IN THE ELECTRICIANS DIAGNOSIS!! THE PROFESSIONALS THEY SENT OUT!! I filed a dispute, and while waiting the electricians manager called me. She told me they sent her a text almost immediately saying they weren't paying out the claim due to contract circumstances or something very vague like that without warrant or detail, and she asked what Choice had told me. I read the email to her and could hear her jaw drop over the phone.
She said nothing in their email was in the report they sent, read me their diagnosis report and she was correct. She was just as baffled as I was, saying they were just blatantly not going to pay for this claim for no logical reason. The "case manager" for my claim called shortly after (within 2hrs of my original claim), asking what the electricians had said. I told her it was nothing to do with what their email said, and she told me "our claims review team looked at it and we don't think breaker fires are caused by regular use", telling me she knows I'm a firefighter and asked if I thought it was. I told her exactly, that I'm a firefighter, not an electrician, so whatever the professionals tell me is what I go with, and it was confusing to me and them why they weren't doing so.
Take that in for a second - THEY called professional electricians to come diagnose my system, they get THEIR OWN people's diagnosis, and their team just says "that's not our opinion" and they COMPLETELY DISREGARD WHAT THEIR OWN PROFESSIONAL ELECTRICIANS TOLD THEM!!! How these contract breaching criminals are still in business is beyond me, but if you look at any of the "top 10 home warranty" lists that they're on, they're on almost all as a "sponsored partner" of the website, meaning they paid to be on that list!
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH CHOICE HOME WARRANTY SCAMMERS! They don't even take the advice of the professionals they themselves send out, and if you ask to speak to a supervisor, you're told "I'm the highest ranking customer face rep we have. My supervisor is the CEO and he doesn't deal with customers." WHAT A CROCK!!! When I asked for a contact to put down on the docket for small claims, they give you their NJ based home address, their Choice Home Warranty as the contact name, and their 1-800 number to contact them. I was told they have an email to their legal department, but they won't email you back UNLESS YOU'RE AN ATTORNEY! If that doesn't scream shady company scammers, I don't know what does.. Again, stay clear of these criminals, and wish me luck on my small claims pursuit. I'm going to need it with these scam artist cons...

Said he'd write up his findings and forward them to CHW without making any promises or giving any insight to how this case would be settled. As this is a single unit washer/dryer combo with shared electric, motherboard, safety features, its an all or nothing. Disappointed with the initial cash settlement. Offering 1/3rd replacement value on a $1500- $1900 unit was unacceptable. Your initial settlement was rejected. Spoke to Lori concerning the cash settlement offer. Lori was professional in her handling of the negotiation and the final offer of $800.00 was more acceptable. The unknown part of this evaluation is whether the settlement check arrives in a timely manner. I have been a customer with Choice Home Warranty for 2 years. The first year they failed to cover a plumbing clog because the plumber that they sent could not locate the main to clear the clog. $300 later, with no help from Choice, we thought the issue was fixed. It was not. Second visit from plumber and this plumber found the main and cleared it. Choice had not covered the claim because the first plumber could not locate the main. I called to see if they would reimburse us because their plumber could not find the main initially but the second visit did. Nope. Not covering the claim. Ok. Got it. The warranty came up for renewal and I was not going to renew but they offered $45 service call and 2 additional months at no charge.
Folks, there is a reason for that... They don’t cover a lot of things so you never just pay $45. You will pay for the full repair, with their contracted trade, and Choice will cover nothing. It is never just $45 and it doesn’t matter how long they extend it because they do not cover things anyway. On to our second year of coverage. I will give credit where it is due, they did replace our garbage disposal and repair our a/c thermostat, both of which would have cost less than $45 to fix on our own. However, we had a push valve malfunction and I placed the call. It was a part of the plumbing system. However, because it was a valve that supplied water to the refrigerator, alas, it was not covered. It was not the valve for the water or ice dispenser within the appliance.
It was the valve that supplied water. I escalated the call to resolutions and they reviewed it and they said they would send A plumber out. And they did. I received a message that a plumber would be coming out between 11-3 and that I would need to pay the $45 service fee. That is all the message said. So, I waited for THEIR contracted plumber to come out. While the plumber was here he logged the issue and was here for over an hour without word from Choice. Nothing. The work needed to be done so I told him to go ahead. In the meantime I called customer service to be told it was declined. I asked why and they said it was an ice maker valve.
So, when they say that plumbing and valves are covered... BEWARE... It depends on the day because as far as I am aware, ALL of the plumbing valves supply water to something in the house. When speaking with my “case manager”, who I called 4 times without a returned call and emailed twice with no response (death in the family but no one handling his cases) finally called me and said that it would not be covered. Nothing that he could do. He offered a free service call ($45) for the next call, but I am not falling for that again. This resolution, even after I had spoken with the resolutions department and received an email indicating when the plumber would be here and how much I would be responsible for ($45). Just beware.
I always check the warranty before logging a claim and this particular claim has left me scratching my chin and understanding that $170, the cost for replacing the valve, is the cost of education. Education that will prevent me from using Choice Home Warranty in the future. Rather than pay $400 a year for nothing, I will simply save it for the day that it is needed.

In the past few years, I was a customer, but then CHW did not fulfill claims I presented. Especially look out for their water & heating & water storage. It may seem as though they cover items pertaining hot water heaters, but they don’t. Claim inconsistencies were troublesome too say the least. Their claims to being able too have technicians come out were terrible. I would have to call them directly to find out why haven’t I received any notice for a technician to come out for an evaluation. I’m assuming that nobody wants to deal with them.
I once had a refrigerator main mother board go bad. Wrong diagnosis, over charged to even show up. Trying to blame me for the technician's expertise. And from start to finish this took 3 1/2 months to be fixed. And also pretty much the same issue with my stove which took 3 months. I ended up having to fix it myself with no re-re-reimbursement of over $500. This is why I figured I would have a warranty company to take care of issues instead of doing it myself. Like most homeowners value their family time. Pretty much the same issues with the heating systems and hot water systems, lack of in-action. ”BOTTOM LINE ON THIS COMPANY, THEY ARE A NIGHTMARE TO DEAL WITH/UNRELIABLE”

I called Choice for a water leak coming from my AC, then they promptly setup an appointment for me with a technician, which in turn called and set the time for the appointment. I will say the above step is easy but when it comes for Choice to approve a request they go through all the reasons in the world not to pay. This time I was punished due to previous owner didn’t service the AC, but as a new homeowner how would I know that. I thought the purpose of having a home warranty is to protect a new owner. In turn, the technician offered his service his ac cleaning service at a set price of $1195 to clean the ac, which I declined.
I will say they do have great customer skills, but so far I think they are a great referral service for businesses i.e plumbers, ac technicians etc. but not new owners. I have used other home warranties which are specialized in new homeowners service, but Choice looks good on paper so I chose them, but I couldn’t disagree more with my decision. Updated on 10/10/2019: I have tried working with these folks over the past couple of weeks, only to be misled and very disappointed. I responded to their denial of my claim and was assigned a case manager to resolve the issue, but all I get is a voice mail and no return calls. I attached a video of the leak detection I paid for, and other professional statements as to the probable cause. Their ASSUMPTION that the Evaporator coils that leaked had been exposed to corrosive or acidic materials that have infiltrated the air stream and air flow throughout the home, damaging the integrity of the coil, and was not completely true in my case. This system and the home was less than 5 years old and they did NOT see it. I also provided them with other written information showing how these leaks can be caused by constant vibration, cracking the copper tubing.
I finally reiterated to them the fact that I was totally mislead and sold a policy that never covered my unit in the first place, and then was totally mislead again by their resolution people over the phone, who admitted the error by their salesman, and promised to take care of it if I just submitted a bill for the repairs, which I did. (Over $2,000.) Because the unit was less than 5 years old, it was still under factory warranty for parts only, saving them a lot of money. I will admit, that I did not read the fine print in their policy. (At my age, a man’s word is his word.) Had I done so, I would have cancelled it immediately because it does not even cover my newer unit as their salesman promised me it would. If he had asked about the age and size of the unit, this never would have happened. I hope to someday get a relative response back from them.
Original Review: I was told that my air conditioner was fully covered and if they could not fix it it would be replaced. When I had them come out they said it had a leak and they do not cover leak detection. The fine print in the contract says they would repair or replace a unit that was UNDER 13 seer and replace it with a 13. My unit is 14 and the sales person NEVER asked me the railing of the unit, but insisted it would be fully covered. You can’t even buy a 13 anymore. The fine print in their contract does NOT match what the sale person tells you. My bad for not reading the fine print before making payments. As a Senior Citizen I grew up believing a man’s word was his word.

The plastic around the lid to our washing machine broke. The technician who came out read my contract and agreed the claim should be covered. I received a denial via email this morning. I was initially told that our contract excluded doors. The contract reads that it excludes door seals, but not the doors themselves. They repeatedly said on the phone that it excludes "doors and door seals." When I called their attention to the actual wording, they then said that it could not have broken due to "normal wear and tear" and therefore would not be covered. I told them it was not possible to slam this lid and break it, as they were suggesting.
They then said that in that case it must be defective, and defective parts are not covered by the contract. I then threatened to sue for breach of contract and they offered to pay me $200 rather than paying the claim. Looks like we are heading for court under contract law. I am stunned at the total dishonesty displayed by this company.

I had the worst experience with Choice Home Warranty. Had three claims and little if anything was covered. The first claim was a leak for my dishwasher. They sent a tech which cost $60 for just a site visit then come to find out it was a door gasket that wasn't covered. Then I had a washing machine leak. They sent a tech for $60 and come to find out it was initially thought to be a broken cold water valve and door gasket. Of course again the door gasket wasn't covered which was $150 but they replaced the water valve. Although after the "fix" I tried to use it and it overflowed again. Then the tech said I just needed a new washer but they declined my claim as a result of "water damage". Although the water damage was as a result of the washer itself overflowing. In the end I was forced to buy a new washer myself. So I question, why pay $550/year for a warranty that covers little if anything in the end?
We are committed to providing a positive customer experience and we take all feedback very seriously.

After several months of being repeatedly called (unsolicited) by Choice Home Warranty (CHW) salespersons, I finally decided to purchase their contract to cover my home systems & appliances in July 2015. The salesman never asked the square footage of my home nor did he ask how many air conditioners (A/C) were at my home. I did ask him if all four of my A/Cs were covered under the contract and he said only two would be covered.
On 8/26/15, I called CHW and told them my living room A/C was not cooling. They assigned a claim number ** and dispatch "Good Quality Heating & Air" to our home. The technician arrived at 3 pm and replaced "contacts" on the outside unit, which did start the unit; however, several hours later, the system was still not cooling. The technician returned at 9:30 pm and diagnosed that the compressor was bad and could not be replaced, hence he was going to recommend to CHW the unit be replace. On 8/27/15, a customer service agent for CHW informed me that my claim was being denied due to "pre-existing conditions" and added that my home was over 5000 square feet and should have been rated at a higher premium.
I have resided in my home in San Antonio, TX, since Nov 2012 and the A/C in question has functioned in the TX heat from Mar to Oct in '13, '14, and Mar to late Aug '15; hence, I can't comprehend the denial based upon "pre-existing conditions". The technician who CHW selected told me that he has seen CWA often times deny claims when it will cost CHW big money!
I terminated my contract with CHW on 8/27/15, inasmuch as they seem to be charlatans. As for the square footage of my home, had the salesman asked initially, I would have told him. Obviously, CHW has access to public records reflecting this kind of information and could have contacted me about any additional premium prior to my requesting service. CHW is NOT recommended by me!

Update 10/10/19: I have tried everything possible to give Choice Home Warranty a chance to resolve this issue but they refuse. I am seeking reimbursement for a fan motor that was part of the original system installed in 2003. NOT the piston that will eventually fail due to a restriction. According to the actual technician that visited my home, “It was my understanding, that the home warranty company is saying that the restriction CAUSED the fan motor to break, and therefore refusing to even cover that portion of the claim. It seemed they were refusing to cover anything related to the refrigerant system.... but the fan motor is separate from that.” They explain further that "the fan motor broke from years of use, normal wear and tear. It was the original fan motor, and parts get worn out and can break.."
I have explained this several times and quoted the actual service technical as seen above yet she remains in denial of the facts In the last correspondence I received from their representative, she states: "I explained that, at this time, we are unable to move forward as as per our terms and conditions. Restriction found in the refrigerant line does not occur under normal wear and tear conditions.” She suggests we speak to come to a reasonable resolution but offers nothing but a denial. That’s not a resolution. I googled “Choice Home Warranty” again today to read their company guidelines and learned an interesting thing that probably explains the situation they are having and why they are working so hard to save the $350 or so dollars they should reimburse me. This game clearly isn’t new to them.
I have a met some truly wonderful people in the housing related industry during my 32 year long engineering career. I am in the Military and move every 2-3 years, so the network of these great people spans many states. I have definitely learned from this experience and I will share my disappointment. I have a history of honesty and fairness that people respect as well. Many seek me out for advice on their home issues and here is my advice. DON’T TRUST CHOICE HOME WARRANTY! GOOGLE “ARIZONA, CHOICE HOME WARRANTY” THEIR BUSINESS PRACTICES ARE UNETHICAL! Put your money in a savings account and if the need arises, fix what breaks on your own terms. Please feel free to reach out to me if I can share anything.
Original review: Recently in southern Mississippi my AC stopped functioning. As seems typical, the breakdown occurred on a Sunday morning. I immediately submitted a claim and was informed that within 6 hours I would be contacted by a technician. Six hours passed and I called again. My house was 90 degrees and rising. On this call I was informed that Tuesday afternoon a contractor could visit. I informed the agent that I had a service contract with a different carrier. She informed me I could have that contractor come out and I could request reimbursement. SO that’s what I did.
My service contractor visited the home and determined that the outside fan motor needed to be replaced. He conducted that work and I was charged $400.20. I received a discount as a service customer. Early the next week I went through the necessary steps to request reimbursement. The first response they sent denying the claim had the wrong HVAC Company listed as performing the work. When I sent a detailed email about my situation assuming they had the wrong customer, I again received a note that my claim was denied since the fault was a restricted coolant line. This time I was advised that if the technician wanted to call their representative that may clarify things.
I have just been informed again that the claim is denied. When I contacted the HVAC contractor I was told that the technician attempted to clarify the issue but the company seemed determined to deny the claim. If you use this unethical company, you are wasting your money. They will warrant your items as long as they fail due ONLY to “normal wear and tear” yet THEY alone determine what that is. They pay no courtesy to the actual professionals who conduct the work.

I purchased a Choice Home Warranty approx. 9 months back. I had researched the company/reviews online first. Going forward I will also check Consumer Affairs as well as the BBB before purchasing a new warranty. I live in the South. It's hot and humid. Two weeks back I notice my AC was not cooling. Slowly over a couple of days the temp in my home climbed to 90 degrees. On/around 7/27-7/28 I contacted CHW and filed a claim. I got the infamous email they send out as well as the robo call to my phone telling me a contract had been dispatched and they would be in touch.
I never heard from anyone so 2 days later I call back to CHW to report that my home temp was now staying around 90 during the day and 88 at night. I had by this time turned the thermostat down 60 degrees trying to cool off. I had also had a handy man come and install a window unit in my bedroom window so me and my dog could at least sleep there at night. During the days I was having to pack up me and dogs and stay at my daughters home.
Finally, after the second call the AC Company call stating the would be out the following day. The AC tech shows up, spends maybe five mins outside (never checked anything on the unit part in the attic) and reports to me that he could find nothing wrong, clogged, leaking nor not low on Freon. Only recommendation was to change my filter to a cheaper thinner brand so the unit did not have to work so hard to return air. (huh???) Wrote him is check and off he goes. Did what was recommended and struggled along for another few days now running the Central AC and the installed Window Unit and added five floor fans throughout the house to help move air.
On 8/5/19 I called CHW again to report that the AC was still not cooling and barely any air moving out of the room vents. Again, my house temp was averaging 88-90 degrees. Claim reopened and the same AC company/Tech dispatched out, surprisingly by the next day. Again, the Tech is outside for a very short time, but this time does go into the attic to look at the unit part there. To no Surprise, he again states that there is nothing he could find outside or inside wrong. He did say the inside coils needed a little cleaning..but not bad and for me to try this and see if it helped. He leaves, I'm excited! YEAH, I gonna be cool. NOT.
9/17/19 I'm back on the phone with CHW again telling them that something has to be done. Temp is still running around 80 degrees in the house and the only reason it was this LOW was because I was still also running the small Window Unit/Fans to move some air. I was told that my same above claim would be re-opened and a Company dispatched to help. CHW stated there would not be the usual Copay charge to the company because this would be a "Recall back".Two days go by and not a word from CHW or an AC company.
9/20/19 I contact CHW again and went through the whole spill about my AC. This time I'm told that she would have to NOW open a new claim because I was now over the 30 days period and it was now no longer a "Recall Back" but a new claim. Imagine this, no contact for two days and it just so happens that 30 days fell within those two days. Once again, and with a new claim number a totally different company/tech is sent out to my home the next day. This technician spends a good amount of time working outside and testing several things. GUESS WHAT! My AC Compressor is barely pumping and when it get hot, he stated the it was shutting down completely. It would only start back up after it cooled down. In other words all this time I have a bad Compressor.
Finally, I get a straight answer to what has been going on. Very nice guy and seemed honest and straight-forward. The Tech makes all his notes via email to CHW along with two pictures of the AC that CHW requested. All was sent immediately. Approx. 4 hours later, I get a call back from the Technician stating that CHW want several other photos sent to them. He wanted my permission to run back by and get them. I had no problem with that and told him sure.
I swear to you, he had not been gone from my house (this 2nd time) for an hour and I get this Email from CHW denying to cover the issue. There reason "failure to maintain outside unit causing dust to clog something on the compressor causing it to overheat and burn up". You know, one of those squeeze out of our responsibility paragraphs written into contract. This was complete BULL and I knew it. I took it upon myself to call all the contractors back myself and question them about the statement CHW made for denial. Neither said they saw any clogging and definitely not enough to burn up the Compressor. Both stated the malfunction was just simply do to the age of the unit (15 yrs.) Other than a little dusty and a few small spider webs, the Compressor just died from age.
So here I go again by email (because email is about the only way you can communicate with this company) and I file an APPEAL to CHW on their denial of my claim. Based on all documentation I kept and conversations with Techs. Within 24 hours I get assigned (via email) to a Case Manager, that going forward would be my direct contact for my APPEAL. The email instructed me that I had to call her. About 30 mins. later I call as instructed and did get a human voice, but to only be read from a script that my APPEAL was still being denied and then she goes on the read that little hid paragraph in the contract.
I just cut her off in mid sentence, told her that I knew what my contract stated because I had read it myself, front to back! I asked her what other process or APPEAL options I had or how could I push this further up the chain for review again. This young lady, simply states, "NO, this is now at highest Management status allowed," and there was no other options. Only other thing I could do would be fight it out in Arbitration and in the state of New Jersey. CHOICE HOME WARRANTY IS BASED IN NEW JERSEY. Imagine that!
To close, I had three independent, reputable companies to come out, check the unit again, each on separate days. All did concur that the Compressor was done, gone, out. Guess what else each one separately stated: The internal damage and the Compressor did not burn up do to non-care, cleaning, nor any other clogging. It simply DIED FROM AGE!!!
After all most 3 months of crap from CHW, the heat and no AC guess who's trying to pull together the funds to replace the Compressor or whole unit... ME, widowed, older, and living on a fixed income. Even so, I have always squeeze out enough yearly to keep a Home Warranty on my house. A lot of good it did! RUN. Run as fast as possible and find you a new Home Warranty Company because CHW has the worst Reputation, Customer service and must do nothing all day along but train their Reps on denying claims. I'm dropping CHW, ASAP and moving on. Good Luck if you're one of their victims.
About 4 months ago. The home came with the balance of a prepaid 5 year contract (about 2 years remaining). On 9/15 we noticed the house was warm and after I double checked the temp I confirmed the home was 82 inside. So the home was clearly not cooling correctly. I placed a call to my home warranty company to open a claim. The claim was opened quickly and I got a confirmation of a person coming out Wednesday 9/18 after 3pm. So we were ready for a few warm days. On Monday 9/16 we got a call that our window had moved to 9/17 8am. We were happy because we assumed the AC would be fixed quickly.
The AC Service tech shows up and starts looking. He immediately says the Freon is low and he isn’t allowed to do tests. He then says the claim is going to be denied for rust on the copper lines bc 100% of all Choice claims on Freon is denied. He was right we got a denied email about a hour later. I called to start the appeal process. I was quickly given a call for the appeal and they denied the appeal in about 5mins saying 100% of leaks AC claims are from rust on copper and they don’t cover rust. I asked how copper can rust and he said it’s a closed system and it has to be rust.
So I didn’t like this answer so I called a local HVAC company and they say they don’t see much rust on the coils and that copper can’t rust. They recommend a pressure test to validate where the leak is and they also said most of the leaks are due to welds failing. I went back to Choice with the info to see how I can proceed. I was told I could go to arbitration in N.J. I was told that welds only fail due to rust and 100% of AC leaks aren’t covered bc they are covered with the clause that says no rust repair.
So here I am with a hot house, a worthless warranty, an AC tech from choice telling me it’s gonna be denied bc all claims are, a appeal person reading from a script, and a well rated HVAC company that says it’s due to welds in the coil.. so no working AC. So I can’t recommend Choice to anyone as long as I have a broken AC. They are so well known on denied claims that techs know the claim will be denied before its officially denied. View less.

I had what I thought was an issue with my air conditioning and notified CHW by the internet service which was quick and easy to navigate. The response on a service company arriving was very quick and way quicker than I thought a person would be found. Overall the CHW to find someone was great. The company of choice to see about my problem was great and got my air conditioning up and running back in no time. For the service fee of someone coming out is very reasonable for major problems.

We've been customers of Choice Home Warranty for 4 Years+ and recently had our first larger claim to which they denied it. They sent a nice email saying they'd work to resolve it, but when my wife got on the phone with them, they were extremely rude. When my wife asked to speak with a supervisor, she was advised there was none. Eventually she got the name & extension of the supervisor but was told the supervisor would reach out before EOD. That didn't happen.
I personally called & tried to leave a message but the supervisors VM is not set up. I then left a message for the original case manager assigned to my case & that has led nowhere. I then used their online dashboard & the case manager keeps saying she emailed the supervisor to call us, but he hasn't reached out yet. When you call their general line for this, if no agents are in the queue, the call drops. Just terrible customer service all around. They are happy to take the premium, make you pay the deductible, but the second there's a large claim, they deny it.

Absolutely the worst home warranty coverage & “customer service” I’ve ever experienced in my life. I filed a claim for my HVAC unit in August. I was told a vendor was scheduled the next day between 11-3 pm. The vendor then called & said “it’s more like 8-8 but will call 45 mins ahead of the appointment”. I thought that was fine & with heads up it was reasonable.
The next day, no call. I called the vendor and they said they have to “prioritize their customers & occupied homes”. They rescheduled me for the next day. I live in AZ & in August we are easily hitting triple digit heat. I called a vendor who I work with on a daily basis and he was at my home within 25 minutes of my call. I cancelled the home warranty’s vendor to save myself the $60 service call fee. I submitted my invoice for my HVAC service for $330 asking for reimbursement. The person I spoke to at CHW said “we don’t do that unless it’s preapproved” I asked to speak with a supervisor and they told me they were in a meeting and I would get a callback. I never received a call. The unit was working so I let it go.
9/17 - Unfortunately it has stopped cooling a second time & I stupidly filed another claim with CHW.. A vendor was scheduled the next day, 11-3 pm. I received a phone call from the vendor to schedule & as expected the appointment was set for sometime between 8 am-8 pm. At least for this 2nd claim the vendor showed up. He diagnosed the issue as a failed evaporator coil. The technician provided me with notes, photos & his write up for the submission to replace coil due to NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND AGE.
I then receive an email 2 hours after the technicians departure that CHW was denying my claim. Their email stated that the coil was rusted & they are not responsible for rust/corrosion. If I had any questions I could refer to my contract terms & file an appeal. I immediately filed an appeal & called the customer service line to make sure it was submitted correctly. I spoke with a representative on 9/19 & he said that it would be assigned to a case manager within 4 hours of receipt & I would be Notified via email but it wasn’t his department so he could not help me any further.
On 9/20 I received an email stating I have a case manager assigned to my appeal. I called the case manager immediately & of course got a voicemail. The message read “you have reached Constance **, today is Tuesday 9/10, I am on the other line...”, etc. It was 9/20. I should have known at this point what a nightmare I would be dealing with.
Called Constance a 2nd time on Friday 9/20 at 1 pm. No answer. Left a 2nd voicemail. Sent 1st email follow up. Called Constance a 3rd time at 4 pm. No answer, left 3rd voicemail. Sent 2nd email. Called Constance a 4th time before 8 pm EST. No answer, left 4th voicemail. Sent 3rd email. I called the main customer service line to see if ANYONE at this company could assist. I spoke to a man who said there were no supervisors available and that I would have to wait for the case manager to move forward. No call back was ever received. I did not attempt to contact Choice Home Warranty on 9/21.
9/22 - called Constance at 10:50 am. No answer. Left voicemail. Called CHW customer service line at 11 am on 9/22. Spoke with Jennifer. She sent email escalating the claim to the supervisor of the department. Unable to copy me on the email so who knows if that ever happened. She said it will take 24 hours for a supervisor to contact me. 24 hours later. 9/23 - called & LVM for Constance. No answer. Sent email. Called customer service line. Spoke with Jennifer again. She apologized but still no resolution. 9/23 11:21 am - called customer service number. Pressed 0 to speak with someone. “No available agents in the cue” and was hung up on/disconnected. I never had a chance to leave a voicemail.
I finally received a call at 1:19pm on 9/23 from my case manager who repeated (word for word) the email I received on 9/19 claiming there was rust & they were not covering the Evap coil. She would not let me speak and would not allow me to speak with a supervisor or have the case reassigned to a different case manager. She was rude which cause me to get rude. I asked for a supervisor to call me which is laughable because I’m still waiting on the supervisor to call me that Jennifer escalated my appeal to a day prior.
When I purchased this plan in March I specifically asked their representative about coverage of the HVAC unit. I was completely transparent of the age & condition of the unit. I even offered to share my home inspection report to guarantee coverage should any parts of the system fail & require repair/replacement. I was told that a home inspection report was not necessary & that the unit would be covered since it was working when I purchased the property.
During normal, healthy operation, refrigerant is contained within the evaporator coil. Over time, it is common that the coil can spring small leaks due to normal wear and tear. The unit is from 1983 and was operating fine up until the evening of Tuesday, 9/17. A claim was filed on Wednesday, 9/18 and a vendor was scheduled/dispatched on Thursday, 9/19. It was determined that the evaporator coil was no longer working as efficiently as it should, & was not cooling the home.
Since I’ve taken possession of the home on 03/12/2019, I have changed the filter regularly, all vents in the home are kept open and the unit has received regular maintenance. I am familiar with the terms and conditions of the contract as outlined in section F number 1. The current issue is not a result of malfunction or improper operation due to rust or corrosion. The evap coil has failed due to normal wear and tear & now choice home warranty is denying coverage.
The representatives at this company operate on false pretenses in order to make a commission on the number of contracts they can deliver. This company’s negligence and dishonestly is truly unbelievable. Health and safety should be a top concern, but this company is causing emotional distress & suffering to me & my family. It’s in my best interest to terminate my contract & they want to charge me $200+ in order to do so. It’s laughable at this point for anyone to contact me for an attempt to smooth things over. I will never work with this company, I will never refer anyone to this company, I will make it a point to steer customers and clients away from choice home warranty.

I contacted Choice AGAIN and the representative stated they want a second opinion. I was puzzled but I took another day off to meet the 2nd technician, he showed up 2 days after the schedule appointment. I contacted Choice Home Warranty a 3rd time and they said they wanted another opinion before replacing my unit. I requested off of work a 3rd time.
It's now September... The technician stated my unit needs replaced so I contacted Choice Home Warranty AGAIN. They stated they HADN'T receive a report so the rep stated she will place me on hold to contact the technician and we can move forward with a verbal opinion. I waited 15 minutes. She return to MY call and stated, "We have to wait on the form. He needs to send in." So she told me she wants to send a 3rd technician out. SMH. I said no I'm not taking another day off. My 13 year old son and myself have asthma and is suffering in this hot house waiting for what??? A third opinion.
This is unheard of and unjustifiable. I'm complaining and crying out for help but every rep is reading from the same scrip stating, "We have to send a 3rd technician out." SMH. I can't believe this. They are not trustworthy and helpless. Their job is not to protect you saving big expenses when something happen to your household item. Their job is how to fool you around and try to not to cover you the best ways they can. I have refrigerator problem so I called Choice home warranty and claim issues. Few days later some third party company sent me a very unprofessional technician to my home and try to resolve issues. He told me that refrigerator is end of life and there is nothing he can do to fix the issues that I have right now. Issue was refrigerator died on us few times and melt food and also has water busted issue.
Currently, I shut off the water line to refrigerator so water issue has temporary stopped. Anyhow, technician told me that it is too old to remove part and he does not want to damage while he is trying to remove part and diagnoses. Basically, I paid for service fee of $45 dollars for nothing and he left without fixing anything. He told me this refrigerator is end of life to fix anything and not worth to fix at this age with this many issues. Then he said they will contact me soon and left my home.
After a day, I get an email actually from warranty company saying that they will fix it for me and will have to reschedule for technician so I called and they said refrigerator is partially covered and partially not covered. And anything with water related will not cover so I have to pay them to get it fix and they said I have a balance of close to $400 dollar. I am pretty sure that amount is unrealistically expensive if I had to fix with local technician anyway. So I asked them what kind of appliance has not related to water at all??
When I sign the policy, representative told me that all appliance will 100% cover and hassle free with any kinds of issues. I am sure somewhere in the fine print may contains include / exclude items and kind of vague ways for them to protect themselves to not to cover customers for sure!! Very front of policy page shows include all appliances with list of appliances. Pretty much all of appliances without describe exclusion items on benefits. When warranty company made exclude items with itemized, they can make any vague excuses to not to cover customers. Please do not trust them! Bottom line is technician said it is end of life and not worth to fix it and he’d replace to new refrigerator. I don’t know why Choice home warranty try to fix it and then they can make excuses to not to cover issues and problem. What a bad company they are??

Choice Home Warranty (CHW) works harder to deny a claim instead of helping the consumer. When I first called to start my claim, CHW could not get a contractor out to check my system. The one company they hired was unreliable. I rushed home to meet him then he said he could not make it. I left work early to meet him for nothing. He told me to call the company and get someone else to come out.
Then they told me they will reimburse me for the technician I had come out when the A/C first went down. I just needed to have him call them to speak to one of their techs. He said something about rusted coils and a leak. CHW said they won’t cover that because there has to be something corrosive in my system and it isn’t covered in the policy. I then spoke to a case manager (who was very rude) who told me that she would put me back in the system to have someone come out and get a second opinion.
Once again, CHW could not get a tech out to my house for a second opinion. I got an email again for the option to get my own local tech to come out and check the system for reimbursement. After two days they still didn't have a tech. When I called them, I was told that they were calling every hour to find someone. All day they could not find a company but when I tried to call on a Friday at 2pm in the afternoon, I got someone to come out before the end of the same day. It didn't take me long at all to find a company to come out.
The new tech from a larger more known company did his evaluation and said that the first person couldn’t have checked pressure on my system because the compressor isn’t working. If the compressor isn't working, you can't check for leaks. He said there is no rust on the coils and there is no way he could have gotten to the assessment he told the company. He believed it to be the compressor. He said the compressor is down from normal wear and tear. In fact, he said that a lot of air conditioning units in my area were all starting to go down from the normal aging.
CHW touts the policy covers things down for normal wear and tear. My claim, however was still denied because they say that the condition had to have been preexisting. The A/C worked when I got on the policy and then it stopped working. How is that preexisting outside of normal wear and tear? If that is the case anything can be considered normal wear and tear. They could make the same argument now or six months later. They should have a year of operation required in the policy.
The company is a for-profit organization and I understand it is a business. I simply does not concern itself with trying to assist the customer. Two times they were supposed to have a tech coming out to my house. Both times they could not get anyone but offered to reimburse me if I had a tech come out. The first tech was $185, and the second was $120 for a total of $305. A service call fee for them is $85. So had they sent someone out I would have ended up paying only $170. CHW decides to offer me only $144.00 in reimbursement. What is that supposed to cover? Definitely not what I would have paid had they met the requirement to send out a technician.
One case manager supervisor told me the estimate for the new A/C the technician says I need is far too expensive. Okay that may be true. But if a new A/C unit is needed then take the time to find a better estimate. It doesn't have to be that company but it should be in their best interest to have someone who does good work install. Instead they just say it is not covered. The bottom line is that my system was up and running at the start of my policy. To now say that my system had to have already been going down is not fair. They can't make that claim with any creditable statistics. They just don't want to pay for a new system.
Their advertisement says “never pay for covered repairs again, can you afford a new A/C, fast appointments.” None of that is true; not for me. The policy says normal wear and tear. The tech says my A/C is out because of normal wear and tear but they refuse to fix my system. This is not resolved and I will continue to fight this. I don't want to have my money refunded because that does not get me what I deserved: a repaired A/C.

This is by far the worst Home Warranty that I’ve ever encountered. My A/C unit was first having issues with the duct system. They came out, had a tech review he saw the same issues as we did and reported them. Guess what?! Claim denied! Appealed and it was denied again. So we had to pay for the issues w/ our own money. Not happy! Now the unit has gone completely out. It’s leaking Freon... Freon stays in for about a few days and then it’s gone. They sent a guy out who said it needed to be cleaned that’s why it was leaking and had stopped working. Really dude?! We got a second opinion and as we suspected the unit needs to be replaced entirely. So guess what?! Another denied claim. Appealed that one, it was denied again saying that the unit needed to be cleaned. That’s straight BS.
We are elderly and now stuck with a unit that does not work, it’s super old so it’s not made anymore and finding parts are a no go. We haven’t even been in the home a year yet! Worse, worse, worse experience ever. So we’ve paid for a warranty that seems to not want to cover nothing at all. I see the good reviews and think hmmm they must be with a separate part of the company because this is not the service that my husband and I have received. We are very very disappointed in this company. Total rip off. I would never recommend this company for a Home Warranty option. I would definitely tell you to run!!!!

I have experienced multiple issues with Choice Home Warranty. One is that the company states they will fix or replace a broken appliance and the fact of the matter is they will not replace a broken appliance, however they will offer funds to replace which are way lower than the actual cost. When my washer broke, CHW stated the national average for a clothes washer is $350 which was not even half the cost of a washer and refused to replace even after I told them I was fine with whatever their replacement item was as long as it worked.
Recently, I made a claim for my air conditioner and the compressor was found to have a mechanical failure and the claim was denied despite the company acknowledging the AC unit was well maintained. The reason for denial was generic and outlined what could have caused the failure and not exactly what the failure was. The company uses deceptive measures to deny claims which is why the NJ Consumer Protection reached an over 800K settlement with the company due to deceptive business practices. I have also posted factual information on their social media advising consumers of the scam the company is and have been blocked. Be aware and do not do business with this company as they are taking advantage of hard working Americans.

I was informed they’ll give me $499.00 replacement or a single door refrigerator (I have a side by side). I was given a different claims person and was offered $599.00. I called the sale representative and was told I would get comparable to what I have. I told claims agent what salesperson told me, wherein I was rudely informed that it was basically a take it or leave it deal. Ok I’ll have to take it. Then I’m told it’ll take 30 days, yes, 30 days for the check to clear to get to me. I said I’m going to cancel and was informed if I canceled I wouldn’t get any money even though I had already put in a claim. Don’t buy this warranty!!!

Despite them saying they cover "wear and tear", they refused to cover a broken garage door spring and a leaking faucet. So, I'm paying $400 a year for what? I'm a disabled vet and no longer capable of doing these kinds of repairs. They sent a "technician" who was insulting, unprepared, and only took a photo, then left, after taking the $45 dollar co=pay check. Choice Home Warranty then called to tell us they would not cover these wear and tear items. I asked the technician to tear up the check, and he laughed and said he'd cashed it. -He hadn't. So, I put a stop payment on the check which still cost $21. I have cancelled the policy and will do what I should have been doing: Establish an account strictly for home repairs. -Thus far, I have paid over $600 for them to replace a dimmer switch and a wax toilet seal. That is a bad return on the investment. Avoid these cheating liars.

I have had 2 terrible experiences with Choice Warranty in 2019. I waited an entire week in the summer heat to have somebody come look at my AC unit that wasn’t working and say that it needed a new mother board and that he needed to get clearance from Choice. ANOTHER week went by and he never turned in his paperwork so I called Choice and asked for them to send a new technician out to my house. Then the new guy comes out and barely looks at it before saying that it’s “due to a pest problem” which I knew was bull crap because he had no evidence to support that claim, he had barely looked around.
After he sent in his paperwork Choice denied my claim. I emailed Choice saying that I strongly disagreed with the Tech. And that I would like another opinion. So I was given the contact information of a special claim agent. I called her daily for a week leaving messages and never got a return call. So I said “screw this” and called a local AC technician out and he fixed it in less than an hour for $150. Oh, and by the way, it wasn’t the motherboard OR a pest problem. Then I called Choice back for about the 60th time in this whole ordeal and asked that since all of the technicians that they sent out were incompetent and so was my claim agent and because Choice was unable to provide proper service I wanted a refund for the $150 I spent to have it fixed plus another $120 for the 2 service fees that you have to pay the actual tech. That comes out for a total reimbursement of $270.
I was told that “Unfortunately, because you already had the work done outside of Choice then we cannot give you a reimbursement.” To which I literally laughed out loud and said “of course you can’t” and hung up. That is only THE FIRST story, the second one is almost as bad. I would literally go to HVAC school and get my license JUST to fix my own AC before attempting to get Choice to do anything because that would honestly probably be faster and cheaper in the long run. I really believe that if my sewer line was clogged up I could could literally dig up the entire main line using a spoon and then clean out all of the feces clogging it up with my bare hands and that would be faster and easier than using Choice warranty. It seems to me from my experiences that Choice will do whatever it takes to avoid helping customers.

Overall very bad customer service and poor communication. We submitted a claim for our dishwasher shortly after moving into our new home. They insisted that I send them the entire home inspection report in order to prove the dishwasher worked when we moved in. We had someone out to look at it in a week. They ordered a new control panel that had to ship from California so that took another week. They put that in and said they got a bad control panel, so another week to get a new one. They put in another control panel that didn’t work so they had to order a water valve. All of their attempts to fix the dishwasher did not work and the repairman suggested a new dishwasher. Choice decided to have another repairman come look and he could not fix it and also recommended replacement. They finally agree and we are so excited to have a working dishwasher after two months without one
Today GE delivers the replacement but Choice did not order the install kit so there is nothing they can do to install the new dishwasher. After calling our rep, the general service number and talking to a supervisor, they agree that yes they do cover install but not by that company. They failed to tell us until the dishwasher was delivered (after multiple phone calls) that we have to schedule our own install. We have to have the first repairman come install it. We are two months in with a broken Bosch dishwasher, had to take off from work 10 times to come meet repairmen and we will be taking off at least one more time to get this installed by whoever they approve. Pick a different home warranty company.

I purchased a home about 4 months ago.

I would not recommend this company ever. On the surface level, salespeople will try to get you to sign up for services- once your service date is effective and you start calling- they will tell you nothing is covered. For example, my a/c evaporator coil broke down- customer service told me it was not covered... One recommendation would be salespeople must go over what is not covered before having someone to sign up for this types of services. They should stay away from short term gain by pocketing some money and in long term getting bad reviews. I am not sure how these fortune 500 companies rating work- this company is a joke!

On Thursday 9/5/19 our A/C stopped working. I filed a claim with Choice that evening. I was advised a tech would come out on Monday, 9/9/19 but since we were experiencing record heat I called the tech and he came Friday morning. The tech discovered a bad capacitor and received approval to replace it. After replacing the capacitor the tech discovered failed compressor valves as the unit was pulling locked rotor amps. The tech advised Choice of the failure and provided the year, make, model, tonnage and refrigerant of the entire condensing unit and the compressor. The only information I could get from Choice over the entire weekend was the request was being reviewed. On Monday, 9/9/19 we were told the tech needed to provide a picture of the manufacturers label on the compressor. The tech came out and did so Monday morning.
I was unable to get an update on the request until Tuesday morning when I was told the tech needed to resubmit his charges to Choice. Tuesday afternoon we received a conditional approval if I paid $300 of "uncovered charges". The charges in question were usual and customary for replacing a compressor - cutting/welding torch, refrigerant and a wire harness. Because my family had been suffering through record heat for 5 days and Choice was dragging this out at every opportunity I agreed to pay for the charges. Following up on Wednesday morning, Choice told me authorization for the compressor would take 24 to 48 hours. Through their appeal process a case manager help get the authorization approved Wednesday morning and the unit was finally repaired the afternoon, 5 days after Choice knew a bad compressor needed to be repaired.

I've had a number of home warranties and this is by far the poorest. They hide behind obscure combinations of exclusions and unintuitive interpretations of the contract to keep you from using their service for just about anything. The appeal process is a farce. Not only is the contract a waste of money, but you won't find out you have no real coverage until it's too late. Stay away!

There is always a fine line on systems maintenance. They also give you a false timeline without consulting with actual repair company.

Updated review: Sept. 30, 2019
Just wanted to provide an update. Today I received the $100 check from choice home warranty. I have updated my review from 1 to 3 stars. The reason because the issue was resolved, but due to the time elapsed and the resolution did not become a priority until my review was posted. In the future to garner more favorable customer reviews I suggest to be more proactive in engaging and working with the customer before it reaches this type of escalation.
Original Review: Sept. 16, 2019
We purchased a home in June 2019. After being in the home approximately 2 weeks we noticed water leaking around the toilet in the master bathroom. Called Choice. They sent a guy out who said the toilet had a hairline crack and he recommended replacing it. Choice told us they don't cover cracks (remember we just moved into the home). After days of back and forth with various reps being hung up on and transferred to areas of dead air we spoke to a rep in escalations who said they would send us a check for $100.00 to help in the repair cost which came to be $350.00. Here's the problem we NEVER got the check. I called and told them and asked to cancel the original check and reissue another one. They told me it would be a $30 fee so my $100 check would go to $70 due to no fault of my own.
I have called several times since then and was given the name of a claims manager whose number always goes to voicemail and who never calls back when I tried to reach someone else in that the department. The automated voice said "no one in the queue is available" and hung up. I have left several messages on the website in my claims area and still no response. At this point my only recourse is to steer as many potential customers away from this nightmare as possible. The warranty came with the home when we purchased and I can guarantee I will not renew this service. It's worthless and the lack of customer service and accountability is mind boggling. At this point I am taking to all my social media platforms to inform everyone of my experience so they will not have to endure the same horrific experience.
