    I've have Choice Warranty for the past 3.5 years and they have been great. They have fixed my refrigerator, washing machine, air conditioner. One time the technician didn't fix my heat and said it was our fault (which it was not but) but that's the only time I had a problem.     I had a very disappointing experience with Choice Home Warranty regarding an HVAC issue. Here’s what happened:

    I do regular yearly maintenance on my HVAC system through a local company. During the latest inspection, they identified a problem due to the system’s age and prolonged use — in other words, typical wear and tear.

    I filed a claim with Choice. They first sent a technician from Sears, who confirmed the same diagnosis: the issue was due to age and long-term usage.

    Then, Choice sent a second technician from another local company. He also confirmed that it was a wear-and-tear issue resulting from the system’s age.

    Despite multiple professional assessments stating this is a wear-and-tear problem, Choice denied my claim, stating it was not due to wear and tear.

    This is completely contradictory and unfair. If two independent technicians agree on the cause, how can the warranty provider still deny it? I am extremely dissatisfied with how this claim was handled and feel the service provided does not meet the standards promised in the policy.

    Choice Home Warranty has been a great choice for us. We have called on them a few times for our home needs. They always respond quickly and the companies they use to resolve our issues have been excellent. Most recent was an air duct in a bedroom that was not cooling.     As long as you continue to pay your monthly fee. You don't have any claims. They are a good company. I have had them for two years. As soon as I had my first claim, they did everything to avoid paying for the repairs. My AC went out, and they sent me a company to repair it. However, first they want me to pay $ 4,598 and $8,500 after the repair is completed. And they would pay $1,200 for any additional costs. Without this scam, I would have paid $9,000 for a new AC. Stay away from this scam. And when you try to cancel, they tell you the cancellation would call but they never do. And they keep taking your fee.

We’ve made two claims since purchase and both times we’ve made arrangements for the contractor to perform service and both times the contractors were no shows which lead to rescheduling.     When we bought the house, I searched the internet, looked at the other different home warranties, and decided Choice was the way to go. We ended up getting a break and got a five-year plan. It’s been good. Based on my experience, it’s an acceptable warranty plan. Usually, I request service online.

    The only complaint I’ve got is a recent problem with our dishwasher. It took about a week and a half for the contractor to get here. I think two or three days is an adequate waiting period. Other than that, I don’t think I had any complaints.

    Choice Home’s customer service has been great. The contractors usually respond within a couple of days or three days. They sent a repairman once for our dishwasher who got the part, came back, got it done very quickly, and now we have a working dishwasher.

    The monthly cost is really high. I’m always a little bit uncertain about whether I want to spend that much money each month on it, because we have appliances of different ages that might be covered or not. We had experiences with them where they’ll repair the appliance and others that are too old and they won’t repair them. In those cases, they’ll just give us a Lowe’s gift card or $300 or $400 to replace the appliance. It’s worth it if people can afford it.

    I have been a customer of CHW for over 10 yrs. They do not pay for service repairs or replacements easily. My AC was over 30 yrs old & they only paid a fraction of the replacement cost, CHW searches nationwide for parts for my 30+ yr old furnace instead of replacing & the parts are not always covered by CHW. The AC less than 3 yrs old had to have a capacitor replaced - CHW only paid part of the cost. I will not continue business after the contract is up.

    This company is a scam. They pay out the contractors that they send out without verifying if the work has been done or not. After confirming that the work wasn't done, they then refuse to claim that payment back from the fraudulent contractor. Both the company and the contractors that they work with are thieves.     I am not satisfied with the way my AC claim was handled by case manager Mr. **. When I asked case manager certain questions on the current claim diagnosis and similar diagnosis during prior claim, he could neither give supporting answers nor did he share diagnosis documentation submitted by contracting company. I was told that it’s not Choice’s responsibility to share contractor’s diagnosis documentation with customer instead, customer should contract contracting company that Choice sent. I was denied connecting to supervisor as case manager mentioned he is the final authority on the claim.

    This was a strange experience for me as this is the first time, I came across in service Industry that I can’t talk to supervisors, or I can’t be given any diagnosis documentation submitted by authoring company (in this case Choice) sending contractors, instead, I have to get it from contracting company. I was even told that if any damage happens to system by Choice’s contracting companies; it is customer’s responsibility to contact Choice’s contractors to trace who caused it and get it fixed from contractors as Choice is not liable to it.

    When I mentioned that I have signed a contract with Choice, I have no idea as well as say into selecting contractors as Choice sends them, shouldn’t Choice be responsible for contractor’s work, I was told it is Choice’s policy that they are not responsible for Choice’s contractors’ work. Strange Policy though!!! (I asked the question to myself then why I am making exorbitant insurance policy premiums to Choice then?) From this overall experience it was evident that Choice was running away from their responsibility by putting customer in frontline to work directly with their contractors. I think it's time for me to move on finding another provider who can serve better and provide peace of mind.

    I cannot remember the last time I worked with a company that wasted so much of my time or left me so frustrated with their process. Every interaction I’ve had with Choice Home Warranty has turned into a logistical nightmare, and my most recent experience with a plumbing backup in the master bathroom is a perfect example.

    According to Choice’s own policy (from their website, “User Agreement,” point 13 under PLUMBING SYSTEM/STOPPAGE), coverage includes: Clearing of sink, bathtub, shower, and toilet stoppages. Clearing of mainline drain and sewer stoppages through an accessible cleanout up to 100 feet. Clearing of lateral drain line stoppages up to 100 feet from an access point including accessible cleanout, p-trap, drain, or overflow access points.

    The technician they sent suggested removing a toilet to access the line. Because of this, my claim was denied — on the grounds that it did not involve an “accessible ground-level clean out.” The plumber then suggested an alternative: going through the shower sink drain, which would provide proper access without removing anything. He even contacted the company directly, and I followed up by phone. Unfortunately, no one at Choice gave us timely feedback, so the plumber had to leave and I was forced to reschedule.

    When I finally received a call back, I was told I had to go through the online appeals process, which I completed. A representative later informed me that the claim was still denied, this time claiming that accessibility must come from a mainline which had to be ground level. There is mainline accessibility from my basement but apparently this doesn’t qualify as “ground level”. So I said to them what you're suggesting to me is that the only remedy for a backed up master bathroom is for the technician to go outside find the sewer access hole and then run 100 feet worth of snake to get my main bathroom unplugged. In other words, despite several clear access options that fit the contract language, they found reasons to refuse coverage.

    This policy actually belongs to my 91-year-old mother whom I am helping, and the whole process has been incredibly inconvenient and stressful for both of us. I suggested my mother stop paying their policy until we get resolution but she informed me she paid for the entire three years up front which would certainly make denying claims more profitable. From my perspective, it feels like the company is deliberately using semantics to avoid paying legitimate claims. I cannot recommend Choice Home Warranty to anyone. Their customer service, claim handling, and overall process have caused nothing but wasted time, frustration, and disappointment

    I would never recommend Choice home warranty. They wanted me to wait six days for them to have someone come out to look at my AC. I canceled the work order and created another another one and the technician that picked that one up became the same day. Choice home warranty needs to make their contractors have availability before accepting a work order. They make it almost impossible to talk to a real person.

    Had a pretty simple issue, the refrigerator wasn't working 6 months after we moved in. CHOICE HOME WARRANTY had a technician there $75 charge and 3 days later. The Tech said that the refrigerator was not in warranty and it would be cheaper to buy a new one. Based on that crazy feedback CHW closed my ticket and they said I needed to open another ticket! Why would I buy a contract with CHW if they only repair appliances under warranty? It's day 5 and my refrigerator is now too warm to make ice, have not heard if another tech is coming out. Biggest Issue: No way to escalate out of the Call Center for help!

    My experience with CHW has generally been good. Response to my last issue was exceptional. My dryer had stopped. I submitted a claim and had a repairman here the next day. He was quick and efficient. In the past, not all claims were handled so quickly; however, eventually got taken care of. There were times CHW had difficulty finding a technician for the problem. Generally, a technician had to come and assess the problem, get approval, then return to do the repair. If they could not find a technician, I was given the option of finding my own and getting reimbursed. Those still had to get approval and return to complete the job. In some of those situations, it took a long time and frequent communication with CHW to get the problem resolved. Overall, I am grateful that I contracted with CHW.

    My latest claim with Choice was for the ceiling fan in the bathroom. It took a long time for someone to come out. They would say they'd be here the next day. The next day came and nobody showed up. Then the next day, it was the same thing. They didn't show up. We had a very bad communication. When they did come, which really wasn't fast, they did do their thing. The only problem was they did not speak English. He would call the office and then somebody would come on the phone, and he was telling me what was going on. As far as the ceiling fan, it looks very nice and it works beautifully, but they have to put a little thing around the outside because the fan wasn't as large as the old fan, so there's a gap. They said that they would bring it back and put it there so that it's gonna be nice.

Their contract is written vaguely so they can accept or deny claims with no good rationale. My AC broke and needed a new motor fan. The company that Choice outsourced to replaced the motor fan and Choice covered this repair because it wasn't an expensive part. The company put in the wrong type of motor fan, though and caused a bracket to snap and the unit to completely break. Of course, Choice denied everything at this point and took no blame or responsibility. I didn't even get my $75 back from either time the HVAC company came to my house. Please do not give these people your business.

    When I started off two years ago, Choice Home Warranty was 50 bucks a month. Now, it's almost 85. They keep going up their prices every six months. They're charging more and giving you less service.

    Recently, I needed an electrician for a light switch. Choice will get a local technician to do it, and they'll do what they can to fix it. They're not gonna give you any new parts unless it really needs one. They charged me $100 as the fee for the person to come out. I could have done it myself, or I could have paid the electrician cash just to do it. Plus, I pay them monthly for the service. It's overpriced.

    I recommend Choice but with reservations. It's not always the best, but you have some peace of mind because you know that someone's going to be hopefully coming sometime soon. But like you got air conditioning out, you can't live for five weeks without the air conditioning working. It happened a couple of times to me. They wouldn't replace it. They did some kind of band-aid. Then the next year, there was a problem, and the next year, there was a problem. And finally, this year, my husband said, "Don't call them, we'll replace it." We had to replace it with our own money. We went to someone that we trusted.

    We had a microwave problem. They finally got here, and the guy said, "We can't replace it, we're gonna fix it." Three weeks later, they still haven't got all the parts, and said, "Well, it's not possible to get the parts." They offered me less than $200 to replace the microwave. I said to them, "Can't we get one from your stock?" And they said, "We don't have it." Some of the warranty companies have their own stock. They may be 100 years old, but they've got it. So, Choice gave us a couple of hundred dollars, which only paid for the delivery and installation fee, and not even the microwave.

    Also, we had the garage door fixed, but they only did one side with the chain or whatever broke. And so, what's gonna happen is the other one's gonna break. A different company, when we had it on the other side, replaced them both. We had to pay extra for the second one, but it was not that bad. When you're 74 years old, it's not fun to have all these things break.

    Once I chose my own technician, and they ended up not paying him at all. They told him that they wanted him to put Freon into the air conditioner, and he said, "Why should we waste it? We know it's just gonna leak out." And they said, "I agree with you, but we have to do it." And he wouldn't do it, so they wouldn't pay him. However, we had a problem with the hot water heater. There was water everywhere and the contractor was able to switch it out that day. When I had it replaced, that paid for that year's warranty.

    It's 50:50 with Choice. When I tell them that I need help with something, they're quick to say, "We're on it," but they're not quick to get a vendor here. When a contractor comes, then the contractor has to look around, take pictures, and submit answers to Choice, and then it takes time before any work can be done. There's some good feeling that if you have a problem, they'll band-aid it, which is usually what they do. They can get someone can respond. It takes longer than you want it to, but they're finding the contractor instead of me running around trying to find one.

    I have joined Choice Home Warranty due to their attractive monthly rate and a decent review; however, I found out quickly this home warranty insurance vendor is a scam. Few months into my contract, my 8 years old washer start to make noises and doesn't spin as fast. I scheduled an appointment with the tech and he came in and stated there are some parts which he will need to replace. The same day, Choice e-mail me and told me the washer was not covered due to excess wear and tear. We are a family of 4 and unit was used normally from our point of view.

    I call and spoke with case manager, Cameo, she stated the washer is not covered due to excess wear and tear and its not covered regardless of the age for this unit (since this is a 8 years old unit). I asked her to send in a 2nd opinion since it doesn't make sense to me but she refused.     This company doesn't pay their the contractors they hire. If you live in a small town good luck. The monthly plans are great but getting service when something goes wrong is a different story. Our AC went out the beginning of August and it took 15 days for them to assign. I live in AZ and the temps were 115-120 degrees. After 10 days I just had to paid the service call. When I called to cancel my policy they said, "Oh send in your receipt and we will reimburse 1/2 the cost." Sounded like a great idea. Now it is the end of September and no payment.     This is the worse warranty company. They left my family and I without air the entire summer and it’s now September and the AC unit is still not functioning. Choice sent Sears out to fix my air, they failed to do so on 3 different times. They then sent another company out who recommended replacement, they got rid of this contractor. They then sent another company out on where it was to cool to get accurate readings from the machine and marker the machine as functioning. I have pictures and videos of the machine leaking water all over my garage and they refuse to fix the machine. I filed a complaint with the BBB.     If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would. I’ve been a customer with Choice for quite some time, but this experience was beyond unacceptable. When my AC unit needed replacement, Choice charged me $695 out-of-pocket, calling it a “coil fee”—yet they refused to provide a receipt despite multiple requests. Then came Sears, who charged me an additional $2,044 plus an $85 service call. Sears subcontracted the work out, and that subcontractor ended up burning the side of my home.     This is the worst home warranty company on the face of the earth. Buyer beware, they don't pay their service providers (so they quit before job is complete), they can't fix anything in a timely manner (each claim I had took more than 60 days), they don't approve or provide enough replacement funds for the warranty to make sense. Lastly, when you cancel, they won't provide a refund even though their contract clearly states one will be provided on a pro-rated bases. I do not see this company lasting long with extremely poor service practices in every corner of their business. This review will go on every website I can possibly post it on....good luck

    The electrician that came was excellent. That is the only reason why I gave the 5 stars He went the extra mile to do the work and was willing to do the rest of the work, but apparently Choice warranty did not approved part of the work. Choice has not contact it me to let me know why, it was all electric related. Wall switches and two lamps were not working. I have been trying several times to get a hold of someone in choice over the phone and they told me they would have someone call me back from the approval department and nothing no phone call.

    I used to be with American Home Shield before and you were at least able to talk to the people that made the decisions right on the spot. This thing with Choice that you have to wait for a call back is ridiculous. Unless the call back would be done within an hour. But no it takes days and that is if they call you back at all. In the meantime you have to be subject to answer every call that comes in. And with all the spam calls we get nowadays that is torture. I believe now that is what Choice wants so the customer gets tired and gives up or forgets about it.

    Well I am going to give up alright if I am not able to talk to someone. And just look for another company. THIS CALL BACK TACTIC HAS TO STOP. CHOICE NEEDS TO CHANGE THAT IMMEDIATELY OR ELSE. I am going to call one more time and if I don’t get to talk to someone that has the authority to resolve this problem. Then I’ll be looking for another company.
