    Updated on 04/04/2023: I am still waiting after 5 1/2 months or buying ice with me on a walker while dragging an ice chest one step at a time...Why, because Choice Home Warranty lied on their TV commercial: "We have techs in every part of the lower 48 states", NOT SO, ZERO TECHS IN THE GREATER NEW ORLEANS AREA!!! CHW, you got my money all nearly $1800, so please hire techs or put them under contract with that money! I looked up 12 refrigerator/freezer tech within 10 miles of my home whose ads state that they all can come out today and solve your refrigerator/freezer problem in a maximum of 48 hours guaranteed. So, 12 techs willing to work for me BUT NOT CHW???! Does that tell both me and the readers of this review something about CHW? Scam company...Takes your money and runs.

    I have filed complaints with the BBB and with the FTC and FCC for advertisement lying/exaggerations unto an unsuspecting public. I really need to ask my Congressman to launch an IRS investigation against CHW as they take our money and do not hire the necessary techs to complete the work. Nor do they communicate to the consumer on any actions on their part to correct their faux pas. These types of pop up, no intention companies should be banned from operation by at least our state legislature, if not nationally. I was told to use American Max Home Warranty which seems to have a lot better business ethic; so I may as well cancel this policy and call it a loss under "theft" on my IRS tax form; because they are nothing but a bunch of thieves.

    Original Review: I purchased CHW's best Home Warranty about 6 months ago. After about a 5 week period, my refrigerator/freezer side by side started not cooling and the freezer on held the frozen products at 32 degrees F to keep them barely frozen. This was just before Thanksgiving. So, I called CHW and after a good 12 minute hold, I got a person on the line. Told them everything that they needed including the model number of brand of the unit. They said no problem we will contact a technician and they will contact you. That part was true, the tech called me that same evening after he got home from his calls. He scheduled me for 2 weeks later...so I agreed on the date. I emptied my freezer and put all frozen product into a 40 year old upright freezer in my garage, and used the freezer part of the side-by-side as a half sized refrigerator.

    The tech came as appointed, which was unusual in this line of work; but, hey, if he fixes my freezer I do not mind as good work and cash have no barriers. The tech stated that my ice maker was not level and was causing the ice pusher auger to freeze up and to interfere with the thermostat. He did not follow protocol and call this in and wait for approval; but went ahead and repaired it by putting a shim under the ice maker to level it. This worked good for about 2 weeks; then the same thing repeated itself. I called this in to CHW and was told that they will contact the tech. However after 5 days of waiting for an answer, I called CHW and was told that the tech would not answer nor return the phone calls from CHW. So, I called the tech and got an answer: the tech got a doctor's diagnosis that he had stage 4 cancer and would not be doing any further work.

    However, on an information sharing call back to CHW, I was told that the tech "MUST" fill out his diagnosis of the unit before they could call another tech. So, I called the tech and reached his wife, sister, or daughter and told them that I was stuck between a rock and a hard place as per getting a tech without his diagnosis. They said that they would "try" to get him to do so. CHW said no one called them and along with it he ghosted me and would not answer the telephone any further. So, finally after an appeal, I got CHW to call another tech. After another 5 days nothing from CHW. Then, I recalled CHW and was told that they were having difficulties finding a tech within a 50 mile radius.

    I told the guy from CHW, that I did not care how far out he extended their radius and if they had to fly a tech in from Hawaii, I did not care!! So, they found another tech 90 miles away!!! Who called me, showed up, done his diagnosis stating that I needed a new timer and a new ice bin and that should fix the problem and that he would be in touch with me and left his telephone number and the number of his associate. After another 5 days, no return calls, the telephone number which he gave me was disconnected and the number for his associate had no answer after multiple phone calls. So, I called CHW after the weekend was over and wanted another tech. They emailed me about 3 days later with the name of another tech.

    They came and I told them what the other tech had diagnosed and they agreed and said they would file the diagnosis with CHW and be back with a timer; but, was going to hold off on the ice bin until it was approved by CHW as they keep timers on their truck. That was the last I ever heard from them. And still no tech and this is March. From November until March this Home Warranty is not worth the paper which it is written upon. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS COMPANY'S PRODUCT!!! Plus if you decide to hire your own tech, then you are in for another big surprise, they want the tech to photograph the problem with 3 pictures and his diagnosis and send it in to CHW for their committee to approve or disapprove before any reimbursal is approved. Now, I ask, what reputable repair company tech would jump through that many hoops before they got money reimbursal for the customer...all they want is cash, check, or credit card for what they did and will give you a written receipt of what they did and the cost; but, not wait 2 to 5 days for CHW's approval?

    Our Garage-Door Opener stopped working. The repairman said that it only needed 4 clips, which were inexpensive, however, our GD Opener was 25 years old and they stopped making parts years ago, so we needed a completely NEW one.     I’ll waiting since October for resolution of claims, difficulties finding contractors to provide services in rural area or any willing to work with Choice being bad experiences and many clauses to exceptions in fine print.. Far different than what was sold to me and distinctly fraudulent even with my in depth questions. I really feel mislead. Reading customer and contractors comments I am not alone.     We called this in on Saturday morning, that our A/C compressor wasn't turning on. A tech was assigned on Sunday, and arrived Monday afternoon. They found the system was low on Freon, and did some checking, but weren't able to find a leak. they also said that the warranty only allows some leak investigation, so hopefully the system holds the charge for a while, or runs out soon, so we can find the deeper issue.     My AC unit is covered under parts warranty but not labor warranty. It makes common sense that your company would cover the labor portion of the repair since the labor portion is no longer under warranty. The associate on the phone was rude and showed little to no empathy for their customer. A $200 refund was offered on a $1800 repair that should have been covered.

    After signing up and reviewing the contract, I saw several ways that CHW could ease around paying on a claim and if they did ways they could minimize the amount they would pay you. I guess most people don't read all the contract until they make a claim and get the short end of the stick due to clauses in the contract. Put the money in the bank, buy the extended warranty, and keep your equipment serviced.

    We have had Choice Home Warranty for several years now, since we purchased our home in 2018. We have used our home warranty for 4 appliances in our home. Until recently, I thought having this home warranty was very valuable even though we have only used it once per year. However, with our reset service request I have been less than pleased. It was decided our appliance needed to be replaced. In the past, we have had one other appliance completely replaced (out of our 4 total claims) and they had a service tech take care of everything. For our most recent appliance, we were offered funds in the form of eGiftCards to purchase our own appliance. This has created several issues.

    First of all, after speaking with a representative about the amount being $150 LESS than I’d need to buy the cheapest washer, I was told they only give the wholesale amount not the retail amount. This is on top of having to pay the service fee, and the membership fee. Second of all, I have to hire someone to uninstall my old appliance, and haul off. As well as get the new appliance delivered and installed myself. Third, it will take up to 30 days to get the eGift Card to be able to start this whole process. Overall, I’m just disappointed to spend over $400 a year on a warranty that won’t cover the full replacement and still have so much to pay out of pocket unexpectedly. Regular consumers have to pay the retail price, not the wholesale price. This isn’t even taking into account color, make, model, or capacity of the appliance. This is something to consider before purchasing or renewing Choice Home Warranty

    It takes too long between filing a problem and receiving a tech, and the tech actually arriving (currently, it will be 3 weeks between filing & receiving a repair on this current hot water heater problem that started in February and will not be fixed until the second week of March 2023). Also, the one time I mentioned I had reservations about a tech I was basically told they had no issues before and I seemingly had to accept him. And to no surprise, the tech ended up replacing a motor in my HVAC but didn't reconnect the heating unit.     The time frame from the call to the service is too long.     I reached out to Choice Home Warranty prior to the closing of my house on January 23, 2023, in Myrtle Beach, SC and was advised that I could cancel the policy on that date or do so on the day of my closing and I would receive a refund for the month of February. I called and cancelled the policy on January 23rd and was told again that I would receive a refund for February in 15-30 days. I called today (February 24th) and was told that I would not receive a refund and that they had a $50 cancellation fee with administrative fees and that I would not get one based on that. He then told me that they prorate the fees, so I asked, "How come I don't get any money back" and was told that I wouldn't because the accounting office said that I don't.

    I asked to speak with a manager and spoke with someone (Resolution Department) that said I have a contract and, "You are not entitled to a refund." I got a different answer each time I spoke to someone about a refund. They clearly don't know what they are doing. I then asked to speak to someone higher or how to contact the CEO and was told that the CEO doesn't speak with customers, and she (Resolution Department) was hired to do that for the CEO. She would not provide any contact information for the corporate office or the CEO. This company doesn't train their representatives on how things work before speaking with customers. I just want a refund for a month of service at a location that I no longer own.

    I submitted a claim to repair a loose joint on the discharge pipe of my sump pump. In the request I stated that the discharge was spraying into the yard. The technician came to my house, collected the service fee, agreed that the pipe needed to be recemented, but Choice Home Warranty would not approve the repair because the PVC pipe was outside the home.     Choice has not been able to find a technician to assist with our plumbing problem several days after initiation of our claim. I informed them that we did not feel comfortable vetting and engaging a plumber on our own. And then he ordered a part without coming to our house to look at the dryer. Of course, the part was wrong and another had to be ordered. The second technician correctly ordered the needed part and was very good at installing it. But all of this took almost a month. I was without a dryer that whole time.     It is an easy process to start a claim. Leak under the sink turned out to be the garbage disposal. Plumber had me submit another claim because it was the disposal leaking and then charged me for 2 service calls even though it was taken care of when they did show up. Which was 3 days late. I don’t believe I should have been charged for both. A leak is a leak.

    I was disappointed with the time it took for Choice to get someone to my home to take a look at my heat pump problem. That is the reason for the three stars. As for the technician that responded they were wonderful, professional and figured the problem out in a timely manner. My only cost was the service charge of $65.00 and the heat pump works great now.

    I would give the technician 5 stars. He diagnosed and treated the problem in good time. Was pleasant. I would have liked to hear back a little faster and I believe this is Choice Home Warranty issue. This problem was reported Saturday morning and repaired on Monday afternoon. This might be okay for a clothes dryer but not for a furnace in winter.
