We purchased a side-by-side Amana refrigerator in 2003. We used it for less than one year as our everyday refridgerator. Due to a move to another city, this refridgerator then became our spare for the last 5 years. Therefore, it has been used only sparingly.

Even so, the compressor broke and now the refridgerator is nothing but spare parts. The repairman said that there has been major trouble with Amana compressors and that we would be better off buying a new refridgerator than repairing. Even without repairs, it will cost money to dispose the unit due to environmental regulations, etc.

I called Amana Cust Service on 8-15-08 with regard to the warranty on my Amana Washing Machine. I had a pump replaced today at a cost of $208.65. I have used this machine for 3 1/2 years so I believe that I am within the time frame of 3-10 years for the warranty, stated in my manual. I was told by the representative that because the company who rendered the service was not registered as an authorized technician, that Amana could do nothing for me.

Whether or not this technician is registered with Amana should not be an issue for me. I feel that Amana should give me some relief financially. If need be I can provide documentation for the repair. I put out $208.65 today to replace a defective part that I feel should be covered under warranty.

We purchase an Amana Brand Air Conditioning Unit and they installen a Janitrol condenser but we made them replace ir with an Amana brand condenser, but the Maching Unit Air Flow was substituded for a Janitrol Brand witch we told Rick Larrison we did not wanted. His response has been that the Janitrol is the same as Amana because Goodman owns Amana. A Lincoln is own by Ford Motor Company and if you pay for a Lincoln you do not accept a Pinto just because Ford Motor Co. owns them. The Proposal reads "Installation of a 3 1/2 ton 14 seer Amana with matching upflow 15 KW blower coil unit heatpump $3,980.00"

Second complaint is that a city permit was promised and inspection, yet no city permit was taken. Inspector Ernest Filippone verified it plus said that their license with Irving had expired. No inspection was done. Sign warranty was promised by Rick from Amana in a month with the warranty special of 10 years parts and labor but Amana never sent the papers because they never got the sign paper Assure from FasTrac therefore the 10 year parts and labor will not be honored by Amana.

Rick L. told us that Amana was a better quality brand unit and a better buy because it had this 10 years warranty on parts and labor, this was written on the proposal that Rick signed and gave us. The work was done in March and today I talked to personally with Goodman warehouse and they said if it was not sent to them back in April or May, the warranty is not in effect. Amana told me if is not a matching unit the warranty does not apply. Rick says that the Goodman/Janitrol is a matching unit because Goodman owns Amana and Janitrol.

FasTrac was suppose to replace all the air ducks with new 6 R rating ducks with 12 Insulated drops. The ducks were replaced but they used my old metal drops which are not insulated, we were charged for them. He charged $100 per drop. We paid $1,200 for the ducks and insulated drops replacements. I complain about them blocking the breaker door to turn the electricity off and on in the AC closet, but they left it like that, it will not pass inspection. I cannot tell if the electricity is on or off. Why does the unit outside says Amana with their logo but the unit inside has no name? If it is the same because Goodman owns Amana, why when I cross refference the components parts it came under the Janitrol Brand not Goodman or Amana?

When I have called Rick all I get is Janitrol is the same as Amana, Goodman owns Amana. We have sent 3 certified latters complaining about it and two were rejected. At the bottom of the proposal it says "All material is guarranteed to be as specified." Goodman brand or Janitrol brand is not mention. Amana has its own air flow with their brand name just like Goodman does, but Janitrol does mot.

We are requesting an Amana brand maching unit for the airflow which is what we paid for not a substitution for a lower brand Janitrol. Goodman told me that Amana was a better quality Brand AC. We want the warranty papers signed so Amana can honor their warranty, we paid for a warranty of 10 years parts a labor. We want the 11 drops replaced with the insulated one or our money back. Lowes sells them for $11.93 each plus tax. We were charged for 12 drops but one drop, there is no access to it, but they still have the $100 for it. If they are not willing to replace it, another company I contacted said they can changed it for about $3,000 to $3,500 but did not give me a price yet for replacing the drops.

If the unit breaks down in the next ten years, we will have to pay for parts and labor. There is a difference in the price of installing an Amana verses a Janitrol. I'am on Dissability and cannot afford replacing the AC unit every once in a while, that is why we accepted his proposal over 5 others.

I purchased an Amana range ACS7270 from a local dealer(household appliances) in March of 2006. Six months later the electronic control panel started flashing F1 and beeping. The repairman came out and replaced the timer board and it has worked for the past two years. Again the beeping and F1 has started again and I have been told it will run approx $300 to have the board replaced again.

I did a little web search on epinions and found others have had the same experience. Most of them replacing the panel 4 or 5 times in a 3 year period. This is a $1800 range with a 300 repair bill each year. I have spoke with a manager at Amana and was told she was not aware of a problem and I should have purchased the extended warranty. She was not willing to help me at all. I now have a $1800 range that is 3 years old, I need to replace.

My Amana refridgerator has done me very well over the last 9 years. I've only had to have it repaired twice. Model #SCD25TW. It's in perfect working condition. BUT one of the shelves/bucket in the refrigerator door cracked and fell apart. Part #251. I wanted to replace the part. It is no longer available. I've looked at websites that feature discontinued parts and even they can't find one. I've never been given a reason why. They have ALL the other parts for this model available. Why not this one? They didn't even develop a substitute for this part, which it is my understanding is common practice to remedy this type of situation.

My refrigerator is now a food storage nightmare. All the little bottles and cans that normally go to that shelf are now where the milk and large drink containers go, and the shuffling around of everything has caused numerous broken bottles, spills and aggravation. If I can't buy a replacement part for my appliance, what type of customer service is that? You can't even explain why? I'm now very ready to dump this appliance and buy a new one even though I don't really need it. You can bet it WILL NOT be another Amana! Extra expense to replace the refrigerator to one that meets my needs. Aggravation. Repeated broken bottles and spills from having to shift everything around in the refrigerator every time I need something.

My 3 year old Amana refrigerator compressor broke. I have the service contract and I had to wait 6 days for a service person to tell me the compressor broke. When I called the next business day to make sure the part was ordered, I was told my mechanic was out and the paper work to order the part could not be ordered until his return.

The part takes 3 to 4 business days to get not to mention I have to wait to make another appointment to have it installed. I will be without refrigeration for about 3 weeks. I can buy a new one in 1 day. I am very disappointed with Amana because I had only bought Amana refrigerators due to their past reliability. I will never buy another. SHAME ON AMANA that they can no longer make a reliable product or provide quality service when a product breaks.

After reading Consumer Reports, we decided to use our stimulus check to by a new refrigerator, Amana AFF2534FES French door. The first unit was a close out model and refused to cool at all. It was replaced, two weeks later, with the above mentioned model number. This unit is also not functional. A fan runs but the temp inside the unit reads 82 degrees F. An electrician has checked my home wiring, just in case, and it is correct.

This fiasco has gone on for weeks. Fortunately, we kept our old GE top freezer in the garage so we have had that as a resource, but my husband is handicapped and long walks to the garage have made this time stressful for both of us. I want my money back and this Amana refrigerator gone from my house. I will never trust a Consumer Reports rating again. The old GE is coming back in the kitchen and I don't care what it looks like. Very unhappy about Amana range bought in 2007. First time oven cleaned, left brown stain on white enamel on edge of door. When the oven is on, oven door makes a terrible noise when opening. Now the refrigerator I bought at the same time, has developed a a ticking sound as if the fan is not working properly. This seems to start when moter begins, last only for about 30 seconds. Should anyone ask about Amana products I would give a definite NO, DO NOT BUY. Am sorry I got rid of my old appliances.

When I notified Amana about stains, got a curt reply, nothing could be done. this was within the first year of purchase. Why bother about other complaints as not treated fairly when complained the first time. Ony told what it would cost me to have someone come and look at the applaince. Not what I expected of Amana.

Since purchasing an Amana Bottom Freezer refrigerator in 2004, I have had the defrost compressor replaced 4 times, and the whole electric panel replaced last September. Today again the defrost cycle has failed. I just hope that I still have a warranty on the part. (I vaguely remember something about a 6 month warranty) which figures.

I have until now spent over $800 to repair this item. It seems that this will be a recurring event. I keep being told by the technicians that the item was built poorly and that they don't make things like they used to...a lot of help that brings me. I am sure that others are also having problems.

I have had to totally empty my whole refrigerator 4 times-with the 5th to come next week. I have at times been without a working refrigerator for two weeks at a time.

Bought a $1500 Amana side x side refrigerator. Very efficient and worked great right up until the compressor died @ exactly 2 years. Amana will only cover the parts, not the labor or service call. When I called to complain they offered me 25% off a replacement refrigerator!

I guess it is my fault that I did not read the warranty before I decided to buy. Always thought Amana meant it was a quality product. Should I really have expected this type of problem after 2 years?

My recommendation....search the internet for problems related to Amana, Whirlpool, Maytag before you make your decision. Get the extended warranty if offered, because the manufacturer knows they have compressor problems and have minimalized the warranty coverage because they are losing money. Another typical American corporate response. Make a poor quality product and turn your back on the consumer when it fails.

Purchased an Amana French door refrigerator ADF2535 for $2000 in November 2006 because it was a recommendation from Consumer Reports. The compressor will not cycle off, which causes the freezer to ice up and does not allow the cool air to enter the refrigerator compartment. Called Sears but they say that it only has a one year warranty. They will, however sell me an additional year at $256 (which would start in November of 2007 and give me this repair and anything else that might happen in the next 6 months. When did manufacturers stop guaranteeing the reliability of their products for at least a couple of years? I have a refrigerator in the garage that is 16 years old and has only had one minor repair (last year). I think the best thing to do is to buy used appliances cheap and discard them when they break.

We bought an Amana side-by-side refridgerator/freezer in Feb. 2002. Paid $1200 cold cash. The compressor had a five year warranty. Compressor just quit June 2008. The repairman listened to the sound and said the compressor is shot, and it'll cost 500 bucks to fix. Did I mention you have to take the refridgerator back to the dealer too. They can do it for you, but that will cost extra. What a nightmare.

First you spend a large amount of money to buy a modern convenience then it becomes a headache, and then you get to keep paying for it until the next time it happens. I think this is Whirlpool-Amana's plan. It keeps the service people out of trouble. They're busy all the time. The compressor cost is 180 dollars and the labor is 320 dollars. The original compressor was made in Brazil and so is the current replacement. I'm not hopeful about it's life expectancy either.

The Whirlpool orginazation has done a great job of insulating themselves from the heat of unhappy conumers. If you call the 1-800 consumer hotline number and want to speak with an Amana representative you will be told that no name or phone numbers are given to consumers. I am told that the dealers do not even have person they can talk with or lean on for support. You will be on your own when you buy Amana.

The Amana refridgerator factory is about 60 miles from our home. I wonder how those hard-working people feel about sending out a product to fellow Americans that is of low quality in terms of reliability? The product quality is unacceptable. We are finished with the Whirlpool-Amana brand. Thank you for listening.

This summer it needed a new motor. It was ordered, after two weeks, it finally arrived. When the service man came to install it, he discovered the part was defective, so they had to order another. It has been a week and a half and the part has not come. In January 2002 my wife and I bought an Amana side by side refrigerator from Sears here in Hartsville.
In September 2007 the refrigerator stopped cooling. A circulation fan had burned out and the channel between the freezer and the refrigerator was iced solid. A Sears repairman came to the house a few days later and fixed the problem

    It cost us $244.25.

Two weeks later we had the same problem, ie. no cooling on the refrigerator side. We got the same nice repairman several days later. He had to defrost the channel between the refrigerator and freezer again, but all the motors were intact this time. He offered me a Sears one year warranty for $105.99.

Today, 6/3/08 my refrigerator is 65 degrees. I put a thermometer in it last night because the milk felt warm. Needless to say each time the cooling mechanism quit we lost a quantity of food.

The earliest service date Sears could give us was 6/12/08. That's nine days from today with no refrigerator.

I have an Amana French Door (Model AFD2535) fridge that was listed as the top pick in consumer reports and is a piece of junk. I have had service here 3 times for it. First the handles immediately got loose, and the entire doors had to be replaced. Now after less then 2 years, the fridge stopped chilling, freezer still worked. So I called the Maytag 800 number, and they scheduled a visit from their authorized repair company. I called first thing Monday morning as the fridge went out on Saturday; they hence had a service person come Tuesday. I thought not bad. He orders the part. Of course, does not have an evaporator motor on hand, and, of course, it's not part of the 2-5 year motor warranty. He charges me $80 down payment for a service of approx $271. Wed. they call and say the part is on backorder so they needed to cancel the Thurs. appt. The part does in fact come Thursday; I call them back, and they say they won't have anyone in my area until Tuesday.

I work in Corp America, and if I told someone you will have to wait 5 days, I would be fired for their inability to have the part in stock. Then I decided I am going to put the thing in myself. I take off the cover to do so, and it's the wrong part. I call Maytag, and they say, "Oh no, that's the right part; oh, and you can't do it yourself. A&E the repair company owns that part, and that's not legal." I say, "I'm sorry--what was that $80 charge I had to pay in advance for the purchase of this part that is actually the wrong one?" My warranty covered the cost of fixing the refrigerator, but it took them close to a month to come and fix it--not to mention all the food that I had to throw out because it had spoiled. Then 6 months later, the refrigerator broke down again. I called the Amana and complained that I had a defective refrigerator and that they should replace my refrigerator with a new one. Of course they did NOT. It just took another couple weeks for them to come out and fix my refrigerator. The worse part was that I had to wait for 3 weeks for the compressor part to arrive! Once again, all the food in my refrigerator needed to be thrown out.

Lo and behold, 6 months after the refrigerator was fixed again, I noticed that items in my freezer were not frozen and that my juices and drinks were not cold. So now this would be the third time this refrigerator has broken in a year and a half. I just wanted to say that Amana refrigerators are of very poor quality and their customer service was as disappointing as their products. I will NEVER ever purchase a Amana/Maytag product, and I will inform others of how terrible their products are. It has just been one disappointment after another.

My mother bought an Amana dishwasher Model ADB1500AWW in August of '07. This is not a bottom model, but rather a mid to upper price model. From the very first, after each wash, the inside top, sides, door and bottom remain wet for over 24 hours, and the flatware in the door has to be dried because of the water from the door gets on it when the door is opened. A customer service supervisor said that this was the design -- that the dishwasher is not vented so that the steam is held in to better clean the dishes and that the door must be opened as soon as the cycle is finished so it will dry. This is unreasonable. It means that one must be at home watching for the cycle to end to open the door. We are very unhappy with this dishwasher, but Amana refuses to do anything. The customer service supervisor even basically said tough when I told her we were unhappy.

We will never again buy a Mattag or Amana dishwasher and probably not any appliance from them and are warning as many people as we can in order to save them the frustration and problems. I have checked many dishwashers since and have found NONE whose insides stay wet. No plastic or dishes that hold water are used, and the insides of the dishwasher are still very wet.

On May 15, 2005, we purchased an Amana French door refrigerator with bottom freezer. We paid $1600 for this appliance. Five days ago the refrigerator started making unusual buzzing sounds. The owners manual stated these sounds were normal, but they were different the other sounds we were use to hearing. At first we thought that our ice maker had broken down or needed a new water filter. So we purchases a $43.00 water filter. Yesterday 01/05/08 we discovered that our freezer was no longer cooling. Thank goodness we had a back up freezer in our basement. We moved all frozen items out of the unit. Today, 01/06/08 we now discovered our refrigertor was no longer working too. We had lots of food left over from a party on 01/05/08 so we scrambled to put food in coolers with ice. Now we have to call the repairman and have a service call on it.

When we had made this purchase we had done our research and Consumer Reports highly recommended this model. This is not the first time we have had problems with Amana products. We had owned a Amana washer and dryer and had nothing but problems. So we assumed that if Consumer Reports were endorsing this product that this was one thing Amana produced that did not have problems. After reading on this website all the problems others have had with Amana refrigerators, I will never buy an Amana product again. I want to ditch this refrigerator, but my husband wants to try to repair it first. I am afraid we are just dumping more money into a product that will again fail in the near future.

On my next trip the fridge was not working, so I called again. I lost all my food and again they said they were sorry and came out but charged me $160 this time. That got it going for another year, but after that it quit again and this time the repair man said it can't be repaired. I asked why and he said it has a bacterial growth on the inside and it never should have left the factory. They claimed they will remove it and give me a brand new fridge but I am still waiting.

I called Maytag, complained and got them to pay for the latest problem. On to the refrigerator: compressor problems. That was replaced this last July; now it's making weird noises again. I'm told that the part is only warranted for 30 days. I'm glad I found this site to share problems with, but is it doing us any good other then misery loves company?

I was on a trip when the compressor failed and came home to melted ice cream over hardwood kitchen floor that had hardened. Also, spending time on the phone waiting to get in touch with service departments, scheduling, etc. is quite a nuisance.

We purchased an Amana side by side refrigerator on June 10, 2003 for $799 + tax. Then on May 2, 2005, we had the relay overload replaced because of constant clicking, costing us with labor a total of $98.59. This did not solve the problem. On May 9, 2005, the compressor had to be replaced which meant we lost all of our food in the fridge and freezer. Then on November 16, 2007, the constant clicking started again and the serviceman was called, he said that the compressor went again and he'd have to order another. All food was lost AGAIN! The compressor was replaced on November 21, 2007, at a cost of $63.30 for the service call.

When I e-mailed Amana, Amanda S. responded by saying We regret that due to the age of the product, we will be unable to assist with any repair costs or compensation for previous failures. But in the Amana Owner's Manual it said on page 28 that Amana will replace, on the second through the fifth year, free of charge, any sealed system component(compressor, condenser, evaporator, drier and interconnecting tubing) and repair any food compartment liner (exclusive of door liner)which is defective due to workmanship or materials.

This lady then told me on the phone that no in fact we were not covered and the warranty had expired. When I complained about the 2 compressors failing, she said that the warranty on them goes back to the original date of purchase of the refrigerator not the date the compressors were replaced.

So now the refrigerator we purchased May of 2003 is now on it's third compressor and has cost us $1305.84. This is not counting the days we have been without a working refrigerator and the clean up of all the mess left by rotting food. We will never buy an Amana product again.

The company supplies a credit card-like plastic card with the use and care guide, the purpose of which, is to aid in the removal of the refrigerator's handles. The handles slide onto metal clips mounted with metal screws to the refrigerator's sheet metal. From use, the screws threads eventually pull through the sheet metal and the drawer handle comes loose, usually on one side.

To remove the handle, the plastic card is slid under the inside of the handle on the right side. The handle is then slid to the left to release it from the clips The first several times the the handle was removed and returned rather easily. The last time I had difficulty replacing the handle, but eventually got it on. I called the local dealer and the person who answered the phone suggested I replace the metal screws with larger screws. You and I know what would happen next. I think he did too. Since I had it back on I didn't think about it until it recently came loose again.
