I had an Amana gas stove/oven, and replaced approximately 4 thermostats over 5 years. I decided to get rid of it and get a new stove oven. When I went to buy the new oven, I thought maybe my Amana oven was somehow a lemon. Knowing that Amana used to mean quality, I stupidly bought another Amana gas stove/oven, which is a better model, and now more digital, and have had it since last fall.
I used it the other day, and the same thing happened as it did with the other one I had, when the temperature reaches 400. All of a sudden, it ignores the 400 and keeps rising. I only knew it was happening, because my food started to smell too hot, and when I looked at the oven thermometer I have inside, it said 600 degrees. I hate that I cannot trust Amana anymore, and would really like to return this product and buy anything other than Amana.

I purchased an Amana refrigerator on 3/22/2010, model # ABB2222FEB3, serial #K00561248. Purchase price of the unit is $1,225.10. Less than two years later, 3/6/2012, the circuit board that monitors when to defrost the cooling system failed. Service call price is $68, labor and replacement parts $432, tax $35. Total repair bill is $530. I called Amana customer service dept to learn while they stand behind their product, they will not pay for repair. So product's shoddy workmanship, lack of quality control are the customers' problem. Never buy another Amana product in this lifetime.

In September of 2009, I purchased an Amana refrigerator, model # AFD2535DEB Serial # KY287062. In September of 2011, the crisper draw center rail broke. The draws were not overloaded. We are a two-person adult home with perhaps a daily draw usage. I replaced it with the appropriate part on September 11, 2011. On November 5, 2011, the replacement rail broke in less than two months. The draws were not overloaded. I purchased my first replacement from Appliance Parts Pros. The current one was ordered from a link directly from the Amana web page. On 3/3/12, it has broken again. Each time, this has to be replaced, it cost $25. According to other reports, Amana is not covering the replacement. Are we to believe we must spend $100 a year for the life of the fridge?

Amana Refrigerator, Not Good After 6 Years: We purchased an Amana bottom freezer refrigerator, model#ABB2227DES, serial#10253964EP at Sears approximately 6 years ago. We have had numerous issues with the refrigerator starting just after the 12-month warranty ran out. At one point, I paid $300 for an extended warranty. I had to have more repairs on it and was told by several technicians that the compressor would be going and it won’t be worth paying for the repair (roughly 50% of the $1300 that we paid for the fridge). At this point, including the purchase and repairs of the refrigerator, we are over the $2000 mark. Again, the fridge just died and we have been told that the compressor is gone and it would not be worth it to fix unless Whirlpool agrees to pay the repairs. I would like Whirlpool to pay for the repairs of this refrigerator or provide a comparable refrigerator, or I will contact my own attorney in regard to this.

We purchased this washer on 11/11/10 because my washer finally let go after 18 years of wonderful service. I have had A&E at my house 6 times to fix this washer the main problem was it was chewing up and shredding my clothes and leaking then the seal around the door would come off that has been replaced multiple times. The mother board and transmission also have been replaced.
Now 15 months after I purchased this machine and 6 visits later, it has happened again. The machine has ruined my daughter’s brand new coat along with my postal uniform. I have finally become angry so I call up my extended warranty (thought it was a good idea to get an extra 4 years of coverage just in case). The woman I spoke to was very nice and actually tried to get me a brand new washer but because I only used the extended warranty once, I have to give them another chance to fix it before she can do that. So she scheduled me an appointment with electronic services.
The gentleman calls me and asked me what was going on with the washer. I give him all the details and he tells me it is an ongoing problem with that model and they made a replacement part for the one that has been broken so he went and ordered it. The next morning, he called me just a surprised as I am to tell me that the warranty department has denied the claim. Wow!
So I call back Home Depot warranty dept and tell her what is happening now. So as of right now, it’s a waiting game. She is calling corporate to see what they can do for me. So hopefully Home Depot does the right thing and stands by their sale since Amana was nothing but nasty to me and very unhelpful through this whole thing. My next step is contacting an attorney and finding other who has received the same outcome because then we can go after Amana full force.

We purchased the Amana refrigerator 8 years ago from Alabama Power Company and we have multiple problems over the years. For example, the ice maker sometimes dispenses the ice and sometimes it will not. Also, we have not the water valve intake gone bad and saturated our carpets. We had replaced it at the tune of approximately $300 and time off work having to wait on the repairman. Now, once again it has gone bad and we are again waiting on a repairman. I am very disgruntled with this since we did pay good money and continue with practically a new refrigerator which should last many years.

I purchased this fridge 9/2010, and the compressor is already shot. I see from other complaints that compressors have been a problem, but Amana Whirlpool has done nothing to help out customers (unless they agreed to the extortion of the extended warranty). I guess Amana Whirlpool is only for people who can afford to buy major appliances every year or pay huge repair bills as soon as the product is out of warranty, or pay for protection (does this remind anyone else of bribing cops to do their job?). My previous fridge was an Amana. my next will not be.
I've lost work time, food, and money.
It's odd when the automated recording asks if you've had the product for longer than 12 months, and then asks if you purchased the extended warrant. And you said yes to the first and no to the second, why don't they just disconnect you? They won't do a thing to stand behind their products, even when they know that a less-than-two-year-old fridge should not need a new compressor.
They have no pride in their product (I see why now), and they surely have no concern with customer service or satisfaction.

We have an Amana 30" slide-in gas range (model # ACS3350AS) that is about 6 years old. The top burners are out of adjustment and are burning yellow. I went to the Amana website to find out how to adjust the air/fuel ratio and they wanted payment for answering a question. I spent 35 years in the gas customer service department of a large utility company, 20 of which were spent as a service technician for gas heating/hot water heating systems. After reading some of the complaints and evaluating their level of customer service and overall customer sensitivity, this company, Amana, is failing miserably. The upshot is that their executive management should probably seek positions that require a more parochial approach to business.

I purchased the Amana 25.1 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator in Stainless Steel, Model# ASD2522WRS from Home Depot 15 months ago, in September 2010. Two weeks ago, all my food in my fridge spoiled. I noticed while I was pouring milk in my son's cup, something told me to taste it because it didn't smell fresh even though it had over three weeks until expiration. It tasted like sour cream. I am so glad my child didn't drink that. I almost threw up. Also, I had four-day old ice tray in my freezer that was still liquid, my ice cream softened and all my son's popsicles crumbled to my touch. I had to throw away majority of our food and we've been eating carry outs since.
I contacted Amana and they told me the warranty was only good for 12 months. They scheduled for a technician to come to my house for repairs. I was suppose to be priority since I was stuck at home without food. I waited all day for technicians to come and/or call. I even tried to call and couldn't get through since their lines were busy. I left a message and received a return call the next day. Amana gave them the wrong phone number. I wasn't given a quote so I asked the technicians directly for a estimate and they said they were going to charge me $129 just to come to my house + charges. Say what now? That is ridiculous.

I can't stress enough how disappointed and upset I am, not only with the brand new refrigerator (model A9RXNMSWS01) breaking after 16 months, but nonsense communication, attitude, and difficulties Amana customer service just displayed! Warning: Do not purchase the top freezer, 2-door, stainless steel Amana refrigerator. The compressor will die soon after 12 months. The contracted repair person mentioned this is not uncommon with this brand. So, after spending $866 on this junk, we had to shell out another $300 in repair costs. Then the repair failed to work! Two Amana compressors defective! No, we did not have the extended warranty but how often does a fridge die? Not after 1.4 years! Amana CS was awful, combative and couldn't communicate a clear sentence. These are lemons!

New Amana fridge in June of '08: The ice-maker broke in November and was fixed under warranty. 6 months later (still in warranty), it stops working, but only occasionally. Stupid me should have gotten it fixed again, but it wasn't that bad. When it broke for good, the flimsy 1-year warranty (really, people?) had just ended, though it was less than a year since the first problem. I called Amana - they refused to help. I decided this was just wrong, and called to complain. After 35 minutes on hold, I got an agent who was so rude I decided to complain about her. The problem was, she refused to even give her name!
I submitted this entire story on the web-based customer service portal. Weeks went by and I received no response, except I did get a solicitation in the mail to buy an extended warranty! So, my miserable customer experience is viewed by Amana as a marketing opportunity! I have read many others say the same thing. It’s shocking how American customer service values have eroded. Finally, I got their social media person over Twitter. He looked into it and refused to help. I could tell it was because he has no power to deviate from their script. Amana has it baked into their corporate culture to treat customer misery as an opportunity to make money.

I purchased Amana fridge (model AFD2535DEQ) on 12-4-2008. Excellent looks, cooling, and energy conservation. Loved the bottom freezer. On December 2011, the fridge’s cooling lost efficiency. The repair tech says top compressor is not working. The cost to repair is half the cost of the fridge. To date the top fridge is keeping at 39 degrees while set on coldest setting. Freezer works fine. For the forty years of my marriage I have purchased and used Maytag and Amana products. Never again! A refrigerator that costs over a thousand dollars and lasts only three years is not a good investment. As a side note, my daughter had the same problem with her Amana at only five years old. When I purchased this refrigerator, I expected it to last a lot longer than it has and from reading other complaints, I see that it is an ongoing problem with Amana. I bought an Amana fridge with our tax money just over a year ago. Its was a hard decision to spend over $1,000 on a fridge, but here we are just over a year later and the crisper drawer has crumbled and disintegrated on the slider edge. Bad design and bad choice of materials. Amana, of course, says the drawer is not covered under any warranty. They want well over $100 for a new drawer. That’s 10% of the original price. To hell with Amana. I won’t make that mistake again. Pass the word: Don’t buy Amana! I’m stacking fruit/veggies on top of the bottom drawer for now. I’m searching the web in vain to find a cheaper drawer. I’m really, really pissed off!

Our 7 year old Amana Bottom mount fridge started making the 'sound of death'-- the start overload /relay clicking every 3 minutes and the compressor not running. I tried replacing the start overload/relay just in case that would fix it. It did for a week and now the fridge is dead. Testing the compressor leads shows the compressor is dead. Replacement cost of a compressor here is $500 parts plus $350 labor. I am told by service technicians that the compressors in not just Amana but most all current 'energy efficient' fridges are conking out on average between year 7 and 10.
So those of you wanting to 'save money and save the planet' should rethink scrapping your older fridge to 'be green and save energy' because you are going to end up paying less in electricity costs but lots more in financing costs on $1,000 fridges that last 7-10 years. Plus you will be filling up the pockets of appliance salespeople with your money while filling up the scrap yards with all those dead but 'energy efficient' fridges. Maybe they can recycle the metal into toys to sell offshore?
I saved an estimated $50 a year in electricity by using a new energy efficient fridge. I paid $1,000 in 2004 buying the first fridge and now 7 years later, I pay another $1,000 for fridge #2. Repeat as required every 7 to 10 years. Fortunately, I was home when the fridge conked out so I could move, beginning to thaw, frozen food to my 1960 vintage chest freezer which continues to hum along. Just think what fun it would have been if the fridge conked out while I was away on a 2 week holiday? Conclusion, bend over and take it as no current manufacturer makes a fridge that lasts like the 'old ones' did.

We bought an Amana refrigerator #ABD2533DEB in Dec 2004. We have had it for 7 years. It's just 2 adults in our house, so the fridge is like new. We just paid $95 to find out the compressor is shot. The cost to repair will be $800, $300 for the compressor and $500 labor. We were told that the compressor that failed had been made in China and that there have been many issues with these compressors! We were assured that all new "after market" compressors are now made in Korea with far fewer issues.
We lost everything in the freezer and most of the fresh food in the fridge. Amana & Maytag need to do a much better job standing behind their products! Based on what I've read, we will never buy another Amana! We will also advise any friend looking to buy a new appliance.

We had a brand new house built two years ago. The builder installed Amana appliances, except the fridge and washer and dryer, which we furnished. Our dishwasher gave out after only a year and a half. It was more effective to buy a new one than to have the part replaced. 6 months later, our oven just gave out as well. Garbage in and here is your garbage out Amana/Whirlpool. At first when I called, I was told they don't even make the model even after I repeated several times off their own sticker. Then all of a sudden, they do make it once I mentioned that Home Depot may be selling "knockoffs" of their products. All of a sudden, "oh yes, here it is". What a joke. I purchased an Amana refrigerator 3 years ago and so soon the compressor went out. I had a 4-year warrant from Home Depot. Some guy, he was not with Home Depot but from an appliance repair store, they hired came out and he was very rude. I would ask him a question about the freon and he would shrug his shoulders. I think this was because he is white and I'm Spanish. Lately, since the apartments next door have been empty for a year, roaches have come to my home from there. Because I keep up on roach control, we did not have them before. He found two roaches on the floor and put down we were infested, which we are not. Now Home Depot says they will not fix it. But another repair person says that’s absurd. Even if you have them roaches, they can not get in the compressor.
I blame Amana for making cheap refrigerators. Did you know they put cardboard to cover the back of the refrigerator? And I blame Home Depot for not delivering what they agreed. We are going to have to put another tent over our house to get rid of the roaches.

On November 23, 2011, my 2007 Amana French door, bottom freezer refrigerator model # AFI2538AES began making a loud popping noise, touch pad panel lights flashing, and cooling stopped. The popping noise was from the ice maker flap opening and closing. The HV board needs replaced, Whirlpool Manufacturer #12920710.
I contacted Amana to order the part. The service rep said it is on backorder until February because they have been pulled from the shelf and are being "revamped." When I asked if the part would be covered by Amana, since a part needing "revamped" was essentially defective, I was told no. Requested to speak with supervisor, who states she didn't know where I had heard that the part is being "revamped" but occasionally, they have difficulty finding manufacturers to produce parts and was certain this was the circumstance. I was told there were no other complaints like mine documented.
Amazingly, however, the supervisor was able to locate the backordered part, which the service rep, the parts department and two independent repair shops were unable to find. I expressed my concern that the part found, only three in stock, may be leftover from the stock requiring revamping, rather from the previous manufacturer and not of the same quality of the part which may be produced and available in February.
I suggested they reimburse for the part. They declined. I suggested they reimburse should the replacement part need replaced. They declined. I thought of more suggestions but didn't feel they were appropriate to express. Whirlpool/Maytag/Amana should recall the bottom freezer refrigerators with the HV board #12920710 due to defective or faulty part or incompatibility with these refrigerator models.

Amana now wants $65 for a house call, plus labor and parts or $312 for a one year warranty which would include this repair. How disgusting is this to pay that much for an appliance and have it work for approximately 18 months, and then have the manufacturer want additional money it repair this lemon. On Sept 26, 2011, when the fridge part of my Amana Refrigerator, Model # ABL192ZFES, Serial # 10379497JX, was not cooling properly, I phoned Trail Appliance where I purchased the fridge. They gave me the number of W3 solutions, a contract service company at 1-866-913-1350, and I was given the Extended Warranty Order # G09264, claim # 95199095. The freezer was working fine at this time. A week later, a technician came and told me he needed to order parts to correct the problem.
On Nov 7, 2011, a technician came and told me that he would replace the compressor and relay and that the fridge would work fine for many years to come. On Nov 8, 2011, I awoke to find my fridge and freezer not working at all and all the food in the freezer melted. I phoned the technician all day and left messages, on his answering machine, but there was no reply. On Nov 9, 2011 at 10am, I phoned W3 solutions at 1-866-913-1350 and let them know what was happening. The representative then issued a new work order and told me it would be10 days before anyone got back to me. I lost around $200 worth of food and phoned Trail Appliance to complain and try to recover the cost of the food I lost. They told me they could not cover the food cost and I should contact W3 Solutions. I am now without a fridge and not scheduled for an appointment with a technician until Nov 16, 2011.
I stayed home all day on Tuesday Nov 15, 2011 but there was no phone call. On Wednesday Nov 16, 2011, at 11 am, I received a phone call from the technician. He told me he had been on a vacation to Hawaii for a week and had received a dispatch for service on my fridge the day before. He told me that the brand new compressor that he had installed on Nov 7, had completely seized up, and he would have to order a new one. I asked him how long that would take and he replied "a few days"
I am living on canned food at the moment, being without a working fridge or freezer. I made this clear to the technician and he said that this was the best he could do. It's not good enough!
It is now 2 months since I initiated the service call and have struggled without a working fridge. There seems to be no accountability for the technicians doing the work, since the technician who installed the compressor and relay would not return my calls. If there is a problem after a technician leaves, the only option is to phone W3 Solutions to book another appointment with a technician to start the process all over again. Then if a technician has to order parts, you wait for the parts to come by snail mail to the technician and service can take months. It would seem that they are trying hard to wear the customer down so as to purchase a new appliance, and skip the service calls. This is ridiculous and I am not happy with Trail Appliance, Whirlpool or W3 Solutions who do contract service for Whirlpool. It's unacceptable!

I called for the Amana technician. A & E couldn't make it over until the following week, so we called a local repairman. $182 later, new fan, the refrigerator is fixed. It's only 15 months old! Our old Amana is still running since 1997.
We have never had troubles with a refrigerator in our 35 years of buying appliances. Now I see on reviews of compressors going bad. Appliances are not made well and we will be lucky to get 8 years out of this Amana with cheap parts. There go our landfills. What can we buy that won't cost hundreds to fix? We have never had to buy extended warranty. This is a money maker for Amana (Maytag, Whirlpool). It’s a lesson learned. I’m very dissatisfied. From reading other complaints it seems that it is not limited to that year. From researching different refrigerators last night, it appears that the Amana, Maytag and Whirlpool are all exactly the same refrigerator with just a different nameplate on them. Whirlpool bought Maytag in 2006 and Maytag had already bought Amana prior to that. So much for Amish people in Iowa making a decent appliance. We are disappointed in Amana. We had my grandmother's refrigerator when I was in high school. It must have been 35 years old and ran fine.

I will never buy an Amana product again. We purchased an Amana gas stove three years ago. I cleaned it one year after we got it and the glass in the door looked like something leaked inside. I called about it and they stated that the seal came loose and there was nothing they could do about it. We could replace it for some ridiculous price. Now, we are having trouble with the glass because it gets moisture in there and there is mold growing. Again, we have to pay to have it fixed.
When you pay over $500.00 for an appliance, I expect to have some type of warranty. Needless to say, we need to get a new door, instead, we are getting a new stove and not an Amana. Another complaint I have is that the burners do not clean up nice like they say they do. I hate this stove! I would not have even given it 1 star but you had to. It would have no stars marked if it was up to me.

I currently own an Amana French door refrigerator, stove, microwave and dishwasher. I have had these products for a little over a year and the warranty on these products is a year.
Recently, my Amana dishwasher model # ADB1500AWS3 panel went out. I have used this product about 20 times. I contacted Amana customer service and they said that even though the warranty expired, they would cover the part and I would have to pay for service and labor. With that understanding, I arranged service on the dishwasher. The repair guy replaced the part for $150.00 and I got a total bill for $243.00 for service, labor, and part. I contacted Amana to ask them what the next step was to get reimbursed for the $150.00. Well long story short, Amana backed out of their word and said that they were not going to cover the part now, even though a supervisor orally agreed to cover the cost of the part.
I lost a lot of trust and respect for Amana and their products today. I will never purchase another Amana product again.

We bought an Amana oven from Home Depot in July 2010. We did not purchase the extended warranty package. You would think when you buy an appliance that you would get, at least, five plus years out of it. Well, in September 2011, our oven stopped working. We had the gas company come to check out the gas that we smelled. He said that the fire ignition is no good. So, we are two months past the warranty and this oven needs to be repaired. Needless to say, we are not happy and the gas representative said that he would never get an Amana oven.
The consequences are that we have to pay someone to fix this and it will probably cost about $250. Does Amana make these to break down on purpose after the warranty period ends? Seems like an incredible coincidence to me. We may just get a new oven at this point and it will not be an Amana. When you purchase an item like this, you should have the confidence that it will give you a decent amount of time and 14 months is not acceptable.

When I called to check up on my part order, they say I didn't pay the $15 shipping and handling. But I gave the agent my credit card info and he said I would be billed when they ship. But then the other agent is saying I have been waiting because they haven't billed my credit card and on top of that they are not going to send the flavor grids! I am so disappointed in Amana!! I thought I'd done adequate research through Consumer Reports, etc. My Amana French door refrigerator model # AFD2535FES worked fine for the first year. Then, the food compartment wasn't as cold as it should be and food began to spoil, although the food in the freezer drawer was rock solid and snow started forming on the inside. I'd purchased an extended warranty, so I thought having it repaired would be a non-issue. The repairman said it was due to too much food in the freezer, so air couldn't circulate into the food compartment. He said to defrost the freezer, which I did. It seemed to work OK for two weeks and the same thing happened again--all the food spoiled again, even with minimal food in the freezer. The second repairman came out, this time he said it needed a new 'heating element'. I waited another week for the part to arrive (more time off work) and then he returned and replaced it. Two weeks later, the same problem happened. Spoiled food again, and time off work. I am expecting the repairman later today.
This fancy stainless steel behemoth is a lemon and needs to be recalled. The temp inside is 65F and makes storing food impossible. It has been a huge expense and a great inconvenience. I will never buy another Amana appliance and I will advise everyone I know to boycott their products.

We were very happy with the refrigerator, but on Easter Sunday (4/24/11) morning, we discovered that all of our frozen foods were defrosted and melted causing us to quickly rebuy all new foods for our Easter dinner we were hosting later that day.
The following day, Monday 4/25/11, I called the store where we purchased it (Don Dewitt's) and explained the issue. I was told "they could not do anything because we were out of warranty", but "they would be happy to make us a deal on another." (When we purchased this refrigerator, the warranty was bought up and we were told it had "the standard warranty". We took that to be 5 years). They said the refrigerator only had a 1 year warranty! I then called Amana Consumer Center and was also told the same, "There is nothing we can do." We contacted a repairman which diagnosed the problem as "Failed Compressor".
We noticed on the Consumer Affairs site that this is an ongoing complaint with these Amana refrigerators, and feel it is very dishonest of Amana to take advantage of the consumer in this way. We actually have a neighbor across the street from us that purchased the exact same refrigerator from the same dealership before we did, and they received a 5-year warranty. At the end of November 2009, I bought a cooking range from Amana. Since we purchased it, the coil elements and drip bowls need to be replaced 4 times. The door handle broke in June and it took 3 months to replace it. It was finally replaced at the end of September along with the broken elements. The elements and door handle were both back-ordered. The drip bowls also needed to be replaced, but those were only replaced mid October, 4 months after informing Amana. Last week the door handle cracked again at the exact same spot less than a month after it being replaced.
I called Amana to complain and told them that there is something definitively wrong with the cooking range since the elements, the drip bowls and door handle needed to be replaced often. I was informed that a door handle on an oven is a cosmetic element and it is not needed for the proper functioning of the cooking range. I wrote a formal complaint letter to Amana and their customer service representative calls me. After speaking to what was supposed to be the head of customer service at Amana Canada, I learned that the problem with the coil elements that constantly needs to be replaced is not a manufacturing problem or a design problem on Amanas part, but rather my fault. Aline explained to me that the reason the elements need changing is because I probably simmer for a long period of time at high heat.
When I asked to define "long period of time", I was told that it means simmering overnight. When I explained to Aline that I did not simmer overnight and therefore it could not be the problem, she still kept insisting that it was the behavior to correct. She also informed me that I shouldn't place heavy pots on the burners. What is considered a heavy pot, and what is considered too heavy for my reliable Amana oven? For some strange reason Amana does not see having to change your element every 2-3 months as being problematic. That is probably because my warranty is running out and each element is around $55. Should we do the math? They are sorry yet unwilling to do much about it. They insisted that the door handles are cosmetic and unnecessary on an oven, and that the coil elements that constantly break is really the customers fault because Amana is not responsible for it.
This is a reminder that Amana, Whirlpool, Maytag, Jen air, Kitchen aid, etc. are companies that do not stand behind their product and I do believe this is the worst example of customer service I have ever witnessed. Apart from the constant aggravation of having to deal with Amana, I did not need to invest more money since it still is under warranty for 23 more days. After that, I guess I will need to purchase a new oven since really only an insane person would spend 200 every two-three months on parts for their oven. It's a shame that they can build stuff that are under par and get away with it. That isn't capitalism, it's just robbery.

We remodeled and bought all new appliances because I was retiring in a few years and we thought these appliances would last a long time. After all, our only washing machines lasted 20+ years each. There is no reason why a good range shouldn't last 20 years.
Below is a brief chronological history of this range: In 01/2002, the range was installed by professionals. In 05/2004, there were intermittent F1 & F3 alarms indicating membrane failure leading to eventual total membrane failure causing the oven to be inoperable. The parts and repair were covered under Amana (Whirlpool) labor authorization # ** and parts authorization # **. We paid the $60 service charge.
While the service tech was here for the repair, he discovered a small fan located at the back of the range just under to stove top. He set the oven to self cleaning for 30 minutes expecting the fan to turn on. It never did. He replaced the fan controller and that didn't solve the fan problem. He called Amana Service Center asking for technical help as to when the fan should come on. He was told no one knew. He replaced the following parts to get the range and oven working.:membrane p/n 316189B again, p/n Y0316079 relay board, p/n 31949201 clock module, p/n R0706010 oven hinge left hand, p/n R0706011 assy, hinge right hand.
Amana refuses to acknowledge that either the membranes are defective or the general design of the range is faulty. I offered to send all the defective membranes and all other parts replaced to Amana so they could be analyzed and inspected but Amana refused again saying there are no known problems with that model range.
On 09/12/2010 there were intermittent F1 & F3 alarms indicating membrane failed again. I sent an email to Amana requesting assistance. On 09/20/2010, Amana called me on the telephone to ask about the troubles with the range. Again, I was told there were no known problems with that model range. I explained that 4 failures of the same part in 8 years was a good indication that there was, in fact, a history of failures of this part. They said they were sorry but the range was out of warranty. However, they would be glad to sell me the part at 50% of cost plus shipping and handling. It would cost me $98 which is actually 71% of the cost if I buy it locally. I am buying the part locally and replacing it myself.
I paid $1400 for the range in 2001 and $556 in repairs since then plus several ruined meals. I have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission ( for all the good it will do me) in hopes that someone will make Amana take responsibility for producing parts and/or appliances that are defective in design. I read many complaints about the membranes (front panel digital controls) used in both Amana gas and electric ranges and ovens. I just wish there was an agency that could help those of us who pay premium prices for appliances that nickel and dime us to death. I have been retired for over 6 years. Like many of you, I have not had an increase in social security or my pension and my investments have earned nothing for the last three years. I really can't afford to buy a new range for several years.

The worst appliance I have ever bought, ACS3350 slide in gas range, is supposed to be a class action lawsuit in Florida about this product. After numerous repairs and just crappy quality of plastic parts falling apart, suddenly the oven door fell open and the metal is buckled and warped. No way I am going to pay to get a new door after all the money I already spent on it. It would probably fall apart again. The appliance is 7 years old but I had problems with it after just 2 years. I haven't had an oven all summer or a broiler for well over a year.

Now 6 years out, the compressor is gone because of the cooling tubes corroding. The estimated repair bill is over $1200 including parts and labor. I called the CEO's office (Jeff ** at Whirlpool) and expressed my displeasure. It seems all they can do is offer "sorry". The situation seems to be a design fault, built in failure. I'll not buy another without some satisfaction. I have lost all products in the fridge and freezer.

We purchased an Amana oven about 4 years ago and have had the same ongoing problem with it since the purchase. Within the first year, we had to have the touch plate replaced and the same problem has happened 3 more times. We had to purchase an extended warranty to keep from having to pay for this expense. The warranty is with Asure Extended Service. We were told that after 3 of the same problems, Amana would replace the faulty oven. Now we can't get them to release the information to us showing that they have fixed the same problem going on 4 times. It's torn up right now and they are supposed to come fix it next week. This makes the 4th time of the same problem. We are very upset and feel like we own a lemon.
They say that the information is in archives, so they can't release the information to us showing where it had been fixed. What can we do to get some satisfaction in getting a replacement for this oven? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It is sore to the eyes. My visitors think that I just spilled orange color food without cleaning. I suspect that the implication is that there are not-seen places where rust grows and endanger our health and life.

Well, this is embarrassing, but right is right, and I need to ask that my submission of yesterday or the day before be pulled, or at least apologize for my inaccurate comments about Amana. I told my whole story of how this terrible smell had permeated my refrigerator and house, and there was no way to access the drip pan to clean it out. Yesterday afternoon I just couldn't stand it anymore and we put the refrigerator out in the sun room. When I got up this morning, the (enclosed) sun room smelled just fine and the kitchen still stunk. It's the darn stove! My husband's theory is that the fan for the compressor in the refrigerator somehow was pulling the rancid smell over from the nearby stove, making it appear to come from there.
Something had apparently somehow gotten into an inaccessible place, and we had some difficulty taking the stove apart to clean it. We called John from Manage My Life through Sears and he was terrific. He walked us through removing the top, gave us some suggestions, and after a thorough cleaning and filling the oven with wadded-up newspaper, of all things, to take out any residual smell that might have gotten in the insulation, our kitchen is smelling fine. And our perfectly working Amana can come back in the house.

January 13, 2006 purchased Amana top freezer refrigerator Model ATB1836ARB, Serial #12803066GN. This was to replace a similar Amana that had had for over 10 years and loved! Last week, food compartment became warm, freezer still worked. Called local appliance company where I purchased all of my appliances and they provided excellent repair service. Technician came, advised needed a Defrost Heater and would order and be back today.
Today, got call from appliance store that they were unable to get the part, that it was no longer available. Gave me # of Whirlpool and I called, talked to at least 3 people, was told part no longer available and no replacement part. Asked why not available for a fridge not quite 5 years old. No satisfactory answer. Just not available and they could do nothing.
I would like to know why part is no longer available for this new of appliance? Is this going to be the same for other Amana appliances I own? I have an Amana upright freezer that I put $1000 worth of beef into every fall. It was purchased in 2003. I would appreciate it if someone from the company can get in touch with me and explain why this part is not available. I was told on the phone that I would just have to "junk" it and buy a new one. Has the Amana product line declined since being taken over by Whirlpool? It certainly seems to be so. Since I will be purchasing a new refrigerator, I certainly do not intend to buy an Amana or in the future any appliances with the Whirlpool name. The appliance store where I purchased has given me excellent service and I feel that they are trying to make this right, but have no support or responsibility from Whirlpool. That seems to be a poor way to treat the dealers who sell your products.

Service repairmen all say the same thing the door & hinges are defective and cause the touch panel to melt therefore the stove & oven will not operate. 3 years for a new stove to have problems is rather crazy. We purchased an Amana refrigerator model #BC21VW in 2000 for almost $1,000. Several weeks ago, the refrigerator started to not get cold enough, the freezer still worked fine. A slight smell of rotten food also started (the refrigerator was impeccably clean then as it has been since). We called Amana and got a repairman out. He fixed the thermostatic control for the refrigerator section for $280. As for the smell, he said he couldn't access the drip pan on this model and to try putting baking soda in the refrigerator. We have tried this and other applications in the intervening weeks at the advice of 3 different people at the Amana customer service.
We have poured chlorine into the drip pan deep in the bottom of the freezer several times. The house will smell like chlorine for a few days and then go back to the rotten food smell. We have poured aquarium filter charcoal in and the smell was better for a day or two and now is back full force. I can't even stand to be in the house with it. Granted 9 years old is not the greatest loss for a refrigerator, but our one at work is twice as old and works great and we did just spend $280 on the 2000 model.
So we will be trashing a working refrigerator and freezer because of a ** smell. We can't donate it to someone who needs one. I have washed many drip pan in my life. Does Amana think this is progress, to make it inaccessible? I will never buy an Amana appliance again. We will have to look for a new refrigerator this weekend, but if anyone knows of a remedy, please let us know soonest.

It too was covered by warranty. About 2 weeks ago, our ice maker started leaking. Then, the total unit suddenly died. Repair cost will be about $100 less than we paid for it. The repairman said that he sees this issue quite often in the Amana refrigerators. It is a flaw in the compressor design that, apparently, Amana refuses to acknowledge. My impression is that they just don't care. A big corporation like them cares about the bottom line, not the customers who purchase the products. Any refrigerator should last more than 5 years!

I bought this dryer in October 2008. Before the warranty expired, a circuit board overheated and the insulation and the circuit breaker in the electrical panel tripped. The circuit panel in the dryer was replaced for free, but now (July 2010), the dryer has the same problem, and the repairman says that the dryer is drawing too many amps--27.5 on a 30 amp breaker. Again, the insulation on the aluminum wiring is melted. I called Amana and they were totally uninterested in a problem that has obviously existed since the dryer was new.
My repairman says that they don't do Amana warranty work anymore, which tells me a lot between the lines. He has suggested that I kick the dryer down the stairs and buy a Whirlpool, because dismantling the dryer to find what is causing this problem will result in charges, which will nearly equal the cost of a new dryer. And there is no guarantee that they will actually find and fix the basic problem that causes the insulation in the circuit box to "fry." Again, Amana is not interested in helping me solve this problem. I paid about $600-$700 for this dryer in 2008, and now, it is a very expensive piece of junk.

Additionally, the indoor unit was affected causing my finished/carpeted basement to become soaked and gave a mildew/mold smell. I suffered economically with four service calls to equal $1200.00 and a professional carpet cleaning bill of $232.12. In additional, I had to relocate for the three weeks I had no AC because the average temperature in my house was 93 degrees and I have a pet. My living conditions were extremely unbearable.

According to him, the warranty is only 1 year so to fix it, I have to pay for parts and labor. The new compressor is around $300 plus labor of $300-$350 for a grand total of $700-$750, on top of the $110 I already paid.
I cannot believe that the warranty on a sealed component is only one year for an appliance that cost almost $2000. At this price range, Amana should build quality appliances that should last more than 1 year. I called the Amana customer service and they were not helpful at all; their response was that I should have purchased the extended warranty when I purchased the fridge. I could not believe it, $2000 should get one a pretty good quality appliance, not a piece of junk that breaks in 3 years (that's around $571.00 a year for this junk). My 3-year old French door Amana model AFD2535DEB died Sunday, June 27, 2010. The problem was the compressor would not turn on, but the motor kept running. So, no cold air is being made and freezer started melting. The repairman came out as soon as he could, Wednesday, June 30, took out the relay, replaced it with a new one, and the refrigerator is working again. He showed me the relay and it was a pile of melted plastic.
The thing I am worried about is this refrigerator has the same issue as the ones that Amana made their recall on, but my model number is not on the list. I would assume Amana gets most of its parts from the same suppliers for all their products, so maybe this model should be added? The result is a melted relay, which is the same problem as in the 1.6 million refrigerators recalled. Model number is not included in recall. Current issue resulted in a couple of hundred dollars in food and a bill for the repair of $175 parts and service call. My model number is AFD2535DEB. It’s a French door bottom freezer.

I bought a whole set of Amana appliances when I moved in to take care of my elderly mother: washer and dryer, refrigerator, and stove. Luckily, I haven't had any performance problems with any of them. But the quality of the exterior is not good. The handles and hinge covers on the double door frigde have yellowed to the color of butter and cracked. According to the manual, which I just looked up, you should only use baking powder.
Why would they make something that is doomed to fail? No way can you clean gunk and black fingerprints off white plastic with baking powder. The plastic corner covers on all appliances turned yellow and cracked and/or melted. I guess they used plastic instead of metal to save money. Also, the grates on the stove are rusted, because the enamel cracked and broke off. That happened pretty quickly.
The sealed oven window got gummy stuff inside and is uncleanable, so it always looks dirty. I am not much of a cook, so I don't use my stove or oven as much as a regular household. So it makes it harder to bear that there has been so much failure. Amana did not have great ratings in Consumer Reports when I bought it, but I guess I liked the features. I have always managed to have appliances for very long times, but in these instances, I have been very dissatisfied with the quality. I'm just lucky I haven't had to spend money on working repairs.

The range oven has had replaced all the cast iron grates, burner caps and burner plates on the range top due to paint chipping, had the broiler and oven igniter replaced. (broiler had never been used, not even once!), had hinges on oven door replaced. Latest issue with the oven is the digital display shuts the oven off at about 350 degrees.
After the oven cools down, we can restart it, Handy eh! The door does not close tight on the oven which causes the face where the burner knobs are, to get so hot it would blister your skin. (we have a 3 year old) Imagine the danger! The Amana freezer/fridge's door hinges dropped and the door does not shut properly. It freezes veggies in the crisper. Amana microwave that mounts above the range has plastic door handle cover melted, that's right, plastic handle on a microwave that mounts directly above the stove. We had it replaced; it's melting again(?) most likely caused by the failure of the oven door to close properly.
You can imagine how disgusted we are with all of theses appliances. I wish there were a lemon law for appliances, These are all overpriced junk.

We asked about a new one and no one will talk about that. So now, we have a pile of junk that we can not use. And to top that off, I get a form in the mail to buy extended warranty. What a joke? Why buy a warranty that they want back?

We have an Amana AC222. fridge freezer. The first was replaced as it sounded like an old Russian tractor. The second broke down and food lost and supposedly repaired but broke down again just after the warranty and food obviously lost as we were away. The cost of repair was given as approximately 450 and then any insurance about 335 pa. The call out was 75. Our neighbor has had 3 ie 2 replacements. The message is clear. Do not buy this product. We have ordered a Samsung, half the cost and a very high reliability rating. We will see.

We moved into a house with an old refrigerator, which died one day. My husband and I looked carefully and decided to buy an Amana brand refrigerator with top fridge and bottom freezer. This was a big decision for us because it was such an expensive refrigerator, but we thought it would be an investment and it will last for many years. We have had it since Dec. 2004 and have had constant issues with it, freezing the food in the different compartments. Frozen milk, vegetable, fruits, etc. I would turn it down and then the refrigerator would defrost, when set at half the maximum temperature.
We have lost three refrigerators full of food over the past five and 1/2 years. It finally decided, this past month, to stop working completely (to not cool at all). We called Maytag and the repairman comes and says it will be $700.00 to repair our $2,000 refrigerator! It needs a new compressor. I will never, repeat, never buy another Maytag appliance! They brag on TV how great they are and need few repairs. Do not expect them to last because they will not! I have lost three refrigerators worth of food and had to buy a small refrigerator each time it went out over the last few years. A stand up refrigerator/freezer $400.00 and a small basic fridge $350.00. We have lost at least $700.00 worth of food.

Ten months ago, we had to replace the jazz control board because the back of the freezer was iced up. Today we had to replace the exact part because of the repeating failure of the control board. We were told the warranty on this part is 90 days.
To date we have spent $557.14 on service and parts and have no guarantee that it won't happen again and soon. Needless to say, we are very unhappy as this appliance was presented to us as a reliable one from Hillmon Appliance Company in Pittsburgh.

On June 28th 2007, we purchased a refrigerator Amana model AB2225PEKS made in USA. We paid for it about $1,700 (according currency exchange rate on that time). We choose to buy this specific refrigerator in order that we will have, as the salesman that sold us at Crystal (the Israeli importer) Sales Center, a good and reliable refrigerator for many years ahead. To our surprise, about 4 months ago, the refrigerator became out of order, about two and a half years after we purchased it. First, it seemed as an electronic fault.
We turned to service department and we have been told that the refrigerator is no longer under warranty, because the warranty was only for one year. We turned to the salesman who sold us the refrigerator and he said that if the fault caused by the compressor we will not be responsible for the payment, as warranty for the compressor should be five years.
When the service technician arrived, he found out that also after replacing the electrical circuit the refrigerator still didn't chill. He said it is required to check the gas. I paid him for his visit about $65 and he said that he will send someone else to check the gas. Two technicians arrived the day after. After a few minutes, they decided that the fault combines electronic, gas pipe and compressor and ask a price of $570 (in addition to the $62 we already paid for the technician visit), in order to fix the refrigerator.
It is not only that I was surprised that such an expensive refrigerator is breaking down in a way that all the essential systems dysfunction, but also was surprised that it is not under warranty. The Israeli chamber of commerce obliged the importers to give 5 years long warranty, for the compressor and cooling system just since. Unfortunately we purchased the refrigerator on the end of June 2007. On May 2008, the chamber of commerce obliged the importers to extend the warranty up to five years, and there is a reason for it as it is not reasonable that such an expensive product will be a short warranty period for one year. Despite that we were unlucky to buy the product prior to May 2008, we expect that a company that represent herself as a company with reputation, that sell a reliable products and provide her customers the best service, will take responsible on the fault and will not hide behind a claim that the warranty is no longer available.
We are desperately disappointed that all the essential systems are fault in such unreasonable period, without any reason but a faulty and unreliable product. It doesn't make sense, that after such a short period all the refrigerator's systems will become out of order. We expect that the importer will give the best service and in this case to replace the refrigerator! Even the importer would take full responsible at first and take upon itself the full cost of repair, considering the experience we had with this refrigerator we can't be quiet about its function and we afraid from further problems in the future.
Instead of that, the importer asking me to pay, after discount $460 -- this amount is as a result of many phone conversation with several representative of the importer. From the responds that I received by now, the importer use the situation when he shirk one's responsibility by that the law was applied just after I bought the refrigerator. A quote from the answer that we received is: "As you probably know nature of technological system to required maintenance, it get spoiled and it requires sometimes to change spare parts from time to time".
My question is: should it happen after two and a half years? When I bought the refrigerator the sales man recommended me to buy this specific refrigerator "a good and reliable refrigerator for many years ahead!" Is it reasonable that a refrigerator that should work properly for many years breaks down in such a way, in a short period? Without a doubt, at least, this specific refrigerator is filthy. It doesn't make any sense that we need to expend considerable amount for repairing a refrigerator that is equal to value off two standard refrigerators!
Since the refrigerator got out of order we use a Mini Bar, we don't believe that if we will spend the high cost for repair it, we can rely that it will keep working for many years ahead as it should, also we are not getting and warranty maybe just for a few month. In our despair, we tried to sell for fixing and second hand but no one would buy it. We were offered for this expensive Amana refrigerator US$27! Yes, it is not a intake--twenty seven American dollars! And last thing--my neighbor bought five years ago a Beko refrigerator, the same size and function made in Turkey, paid less than 40% got warranty for five years and it is still working. As it should!

We bought an Amana/Maytag "Trio" refrigerator or better know as the French door series for around $3000 in 11/04. It was damaged upon delivery, and it took Home Depot almost 2 months to get a suitable replacement. We have had our share of problems with the unit of the years that mainly unplugging them for a few hours seemed to resolve. Now we called, because it's making a loud buzz and click and we had to pay $109 for a service man to come out. He did nothing on hands and told us it was the compressor.
The unit was working fine while he was there, so it was impossible for him to see or hear the issue. He never looked at anything and gave me a bill. What he did tell me is that this a known problem and that Amana/Maytag knows the compressors are not strong enough for this model. But instead of making a stronger/better unit, they replace the compressors with the same part. So now, our $3000 ref is dying, and they want $800 to replace a known deficient part.
We had a 5-year warranty on the compressor, and it just ran out of warranty three months ago. We bought an extended warranty which ran out in 2007, about two months later we called for service and we handed off to A&E appliance services. Now the compressor is going out, and the tech who came out said that it is a known defect in this model but that Amana/Maytag chose to ignore it and merely replace the bad units as needed with the same crappy units. We ordered an Amana very much like the one we were replacing, but the contortions that have to be gone through to light the pilot in the oven are nearly impossible. I have emailed the company and gotten no help. I would like the management personnel at Amana to try lighting the pilot on the oven on the stove, by themselves. I am unable to light the pilot by myself and sometimes my wife and I have trouble getting it to light together.
If one of us is at work, we cannot light it. We have to turn the dial past the pilot on the knob, which is very unsafe and one of our heads is in the oven to do this because the light is at the back and bottom under the shelf. I cannot believe they would sell a product like this. If we could have had our old stove repaired, we would have. I had to get the repairman to replace the motor. Two of the drawers are broken where we have to hold up when we pull drawers out to keep them from falling in the floor. The lower shelf on door has broken, too.
The microwave had to be replaced just this week with another brand, I might ask because I have no faith in Amana appliances now. I was lucky to find a microwave with the same dimensions since it is built over stove. The oven glass on the front is already cracked. My husband and I are empty nesters and take care of our home. We do not have children around, so there is no disregard for home furnishings like it would be for a growing family. I chose to use all Amana appliances because they had met my criteria. This is not a complaint; it's a compliment. I purchase a home four years ago that had all Amana appliances, which I loved. Within the first year, I replaced the electric stove top with a five-burner gas stove. Loved it. However, the microwave oven had an issue with the safety film on the glass door, and the refrigerator started to make a noise. Amana replaced the microwave, no questions asked, and sent a technician to check on the fridge. He was unable to find anything wrong, saying that sometimes fridges make noises. In addition to the growling noise, the fridge made a louder-than-usual noise whenever it kicked on or off.
This past summer, not quite four years after we purchased the home, the fridge stopped working. Believing the fridge to be out of warranty, we called a local appliance tech who replaced the relay for $200. The fridge worked until December when it again stopped working. The same appliance tech came out and said the adaptive defrost board had short-circuited, so he replaced the board.
However, as soon as he turned on the power, it blew again. So he said he thought the compressor had gone out and referred us to Amana to exercise our warranty. Amana sent a factory authorized rep who told me the compressor, as well as the adaptive board, needed to be replaced and charged me $355.00.I was not happy about having had to spend over $500 to repair a fridge that I had complained about in the first year, but I paid it anyway.
To the credit of A & E Factory Service, their techs seem knowledgeable, and the fridge has never run better (quieter than before the repair). After several unsuccessful attempts to address the issue with one Amana representative, I was finally put in touch with Andy. Within one day, both Andy and Amana (now Maytag) were able to resolve my issue to my satisfaction. I found Andy and Amana to be sensitive to my concerns and genuinely interested in resolving the issue.
In fact, I have been so impressed with the way they handled the situation that I purchased a new Maytag 5000 series washer and dryer. Thanks for your efforts to retain a loyal customer.

After evaluating the range, the service technician was visibly shaken and told us that we were very fortunate the range did not cause a fire in our house. He said that the oven burner had come loose and burned the insulation from the nearby wires (I think that these were the wires to the ignition). The now bare wires were coming in contact with the copper gas supply line leading to the burner.
If the arcing had caused a hole to form in the gas line, there would have been an uncontrollable gas fire in our house (it could have been shut off only at the gas main). The service technician told us never to use the range again. Since it was out of warranty, we purchased a different brand gas range to replace it. For anyone considering an Amana freezer-on-bottom refrigerator, check this before you back the unit into place. From time to time, we used see some water near our refrigerator. With four children, we always thought it was because someone had dropped an ice cube. Well, it turns out that wasn't the case. I recently backed out our unit to clean off the fan grill. I found a lot of water underneath. There were clear signs of water damage as we had black marks on the hardwood floor.
I took off that cardboard back panel to determine if there was other water to dry up inside and to determine where the water was coming from. You're probably aware of how a fridge automatically runs a defrost cycle. The water from the cycle is collected in a pan under the fridge where it naturally evaporates (with the heat from the condenser and the fan). It appears that our fridge went through quality control on a Friday afternoon. It didn't take a technician to see the defrost tube wasn't connected. When I tried to reconnect, I found the tube is secured in this position. It didn't just come loose in shipment.
The drain tube cannot be attached to the drip outlet until I remove a bracket holding the tube in place. The opposite end of this tube correctly terminates right over the evaporation pan. The quality control label on the back of the refrigerator was completely blank in the check boxes next to each item (electrical, condenser, etc.). Nothing was stamped or checked off. Why is it there if it isn't used? I called Amana today. I explained all of this and told them the unit is probably out of warranty. I then expressed my deep disappointment at this kind of workmanship, as well as noting my next refrigerator will be another brand (and not one of the many other brand names actually manufactured by Amana).
Their response: "Well, the unit is out of warranty. I could give you the names of some local repair companies.” I told her I would fix it myself. "Ok, then. Thanks for calling Amana today.” Their customer support was about on part with the production line that made our refrigerator.

I purchased an Amana slide-in range in 2005. I wanted stainless, as my husband and I have radicular nerve damage so we can unexpectedly drop things. It was $1800 for this range. In 2006, the panel started throwing F-3s. I emailed Amana, and they sent back directions to shut off circuit breaker for 15 seconds. Then it should be ok. We've been doing this since then. Why? Well, we called factory service and they refused to come out to where we live (30 min-45min) as it was too far away. No, I wish I were making this up. About 18 months ago, it started throwing F-2s. I am clueless, but I do notice that when the heating season is in full swing, I can't get the stove to stay on. It's gas. We had gas heat but switched to oil. But we had troubles before we switched.
Another thing I am thinking may be a problem are the safety features, like the switch that automatically shuts off the oven after 12 hours may be disabled. Also, I was reading in CPSC's site, and the one thing that resonated with me was the fact that sometimes the gas valve is too far from igniter. I'd always noticed that it took a very long time for the oven to come on from day one. We had it installed by a plumber. Also, there was a fan that would turn on when the oven was on the clean cycle. That stopped working. The door never closes right, either. A very expensive piece of junk. And no, we did not get an extended warranty. We had one on our GE gas stove, and towards the end, they would come out and fix something and break something. I felt abused. And that stove caught on fire! We need something done here. Nothing works, not the stove, not the warranty, not the manufacturer, or the gov't.

He said he couldn't do anything about that since I hadn't mentioned it when I called for the service. $150 later, the thermostat was fixed but the water dispenser was still broken. Last year, it stopped freezing in the freezer. I paid $80 for a repairman to come out and tell me the compressor was broken, and it would be around $800 to fix.
This thing is a crappy lemon. I've gone without a freezer for about a year now. I need to replace it, but the cabinets were built around that particular fridge, which I expected to last 15-20 years like the old reliable one the Amana replaced (not Amana). I haven't been able to find one that fits in the space, fridges are taller now. I will never purchase Amana again. Why did fridges use to last 20-30 years and now they break after one year? By the way, I bought this from RC Willey's. They did nothing when I told them about the fridge.

This stove was purchased in 2000 at a cost of $822. It has never worked properly and I consider it a lemon from day one. First, we had problems with the cleaning cycle. It burned the inside of the door and melted the plastic around it. They came out and replaced the parts twice. Then when that didn't work, they sent us the parts and said to fix it ourselves. After that, we had to call repairmen several times at our own cost, since they said our warranty had run out. A serviceman came and went over the whole thing, and fixed something and it worked well for a short time.
Now the oven won't work at all. My husband has pulled it out and is taking the igniters out and trying to exchange the broiler igniter for the oven one, since the broiler one works. We just want Amana, (or whatever company has Amana) I believe it is Maytag, to know that these appliances are junk. They should have replaced that stove after the first 3 or 4 call-outs for repair. Now they're home free and we're left with a piece of junk. We will get a new stove, but we will never get an Amana product or one that is sold by any company that has purchased Amana. Their guarantee and warranty is useless and they just don't make a good product nor do they back them up. I'm a very disgusted consumer and I will also advise any of my friends, acquaintances, or relatives to never buy an Amana product!

In 2000, I purchased an Amana side-by-side refrigerator after extensive research. I loved this unit. At the time, it was one of only a few to have the filtered ice in the door with crush options. Needless to say, I was elated. Within two years of owning the fridge, it died for the first time. All told, including yesterday, it has died a total of 4 times. My mom still has an Amana fridge in her garage that is almost 30 years old, and it still works! They sent out recall notices on certain units, and of course, when I called, my unit is not one of them.

I purchased my Amana refrigerator on 3/16/07. It had a small fire on 9/17/09. We unplugged it immediately and called the number on our extended service coverage. They would send someone in two days. I called Maytag. They said they could have someone there in four days. (They both use the same authorized service center!) I checked you web and saw there was a recall on 1.6 million refrigerators. I called Maytag again, but since mine was a newer model and a bottom freezer, it was not part of the recall. I again explained that the unit went on fire. It was a waste of time. The tech arrived on Saturday to check the fridge and confirms it's the relay (reason for previous recalls). He needs to order the part and it can take up to 7-10 days!
I called Maytag again to see if they could get it repaired faster. Since this is now considered a safety issue, it has to be handled through safety. No one is there on the weekend and I have to wait until Monday. I asked to speak to a supervisor to try to get some assistance, but I am connected to a voicemail box. I left a message, but no one ever called back. I received a call Monday morning from the repair service. They located a new relay and would be over today to fix it. I finally called Maytag safety again (since she didn't return my call) and the rep. acted annoyed with me for calling. I asked what was done for other people whose fridge was recalled. Maytag will only repair the unit. This refrigerator is a fire hazard. They should be replaced, not repaired. Are they waiting for someone to be severely burned or killed before they correct this?

Our Amana range was purchased in November 2000. We've replaced the keypad unit three times and it is out again. It costs over $100 every time we replace it and that’s doing the labor ourselves. They will only offer 25% off of a new Amana range. They are depreciating it 8-9 years. I find that unfair since it is a faulty unit. It was not dependable from the first time the unit went bad. Maybe depreciating 2-3 years would be fairer. My husband has heart disease and is diabetic. Therefore, fast food isn't very healthy for us. Also, I have MS and we purchased this unit because the knobs are on the front and it has a flat cooktop for ease of cleaning. We have had the unit go out twice when we have had company, once was Thanksgiving. It is so frustrating!

I have an Amana slide-in smoothtop range which was purchased in March 2002. The stove was purchased from Dunnett Inc. in Bangor, Maine. I had a few repairs done since the stove was installed, the oven thermostat and the control pad. The control pad starting beeping on August 22, 2009. My husband opened the stove top to get the numbers to order the new part and much to our surprise, the counter top in the back of the stove where the vent pipe from the oven comes out was burnt and one side on the stove itself was melting. Also, the underside of the glass top itself is blackened.
I went on the internet to see if there has been a recall on this stove and found nothing. So on August 23, 2009, I emailed Amana customer service. On the 26th, I called Customer Service, spoke with Jim ** and asked for his email address to forward him some photos of the damage. I also told him I was calling my homeowner's insurance to let them know what was going on and if the house burnt down because of the stove that Amana would pay the replacement cost. I also explained to Jim that we live in a geodesic dome and the counter tops had to be custom made to fit and would be expensive to replace. Mr. ** told me to have my insurance pay the cost for replacement.
Excuse me, this is not happening. I am not having my homeowner's going up because of this. Now, Dunnett will not come look at my stove because the repair guy they sent to fix the problems in the past is a name they do not recognize. All I want is a replacement stove and the cost to replace my counter top. Is this too much to ask? Now, I am in a wait and see game with the two companies.

I'm now told by a qualified Amana tech that not only do I need a new latch assembly but also a new front control panel since the flimsy plastic housing for both are broken. The cost of the replacement parts as well as labor would be more than the original unit cost. This is a scam! Amana is supposed to be a quality brand but is lousy. From browsing the web, there are many other people with the same issue. The tech even told me that he replaces at least one of these per week for Amana, Whirlpool, Maytag and Jenn-Air products (all owned by the same company). We found out that the track was made out of the same materials as the rest of the unit (foam covered over by a thin plastic) and had no reinforcement. In June 2009, the thermostat went out causing the automatic defrost not to work, which caused the refrigerator not to work, which in turn caused the food in the refrigerator to spoil. Just this week (July 29, 2009), the center track for the vegetable drawers broke off where it connects in the front. It seems that this refrigerator was very poorly made and unless Amana proves to have appliance made with better materials, I will not buy another Amana product.

Since purchasing a stainless steel counter depth Amana Refrigerator, model #ABC2037DES, in 2004, I have had nothing but trouble. It seemed that the problems were elusive because it would take several visits by the technicians to diagnose, get parts and repair the problems. All in all, we have had 12 visits from A&E.
I have experienced many days lost from work. It has been extremely inconvenient due to the uncertainty of the time of the factory authorized service technician arrival from A&E Repair. It has been very inconvenient having to transfer food to and use our 10-year-old Kenmore, $350 back-up basement refrigerator. For the first year of problems, Amana said there was nothing they could do and that some parts were under warranty, some were not. I called 877-342-1446. Frantic that I was going to lose a freezer of food, I was advised by Kim that a repairman would arrive at 7/15 between 8am-12n. I called 800-628-5782, which was another number I had for Amana and spoke with Jamila. After explaining the problem, Jamila advised me that there was no service call request in the computer, so she initiated and advised that a repairman would be here on Wednesday, 7/15/09. I did tell Jamila that a second freezer failure in less than a year is totally unacceptable.
7/15/09, a repairman arrived right around 8am, discovered some problem with paperwork; I called 877-342-1446 and spoke with Mark, who was able to advise me that I had called the manufacturer and the extended warranty numbers advised are separate and do not have shared computer programs. Mark said that he could take care of it, gave me a confirmation number to the repairman and was going to Fax sheets to the local office.
On 7/16/2009, the local repair business called me to say that Maytag Dependability Plus was refusing to pay the bill because they authorized another company for the repair and that company called after the first repairman had left. Amana Dependability Plus will not change the work order from A&E Factory Service (who did not come or perform any service) to Convenient Appliance Service, who came and rendered service. Jim, at the 877-3542-1446, would not give me the names of any supervisor nor would he transfer me to anyone else. He said no one there has any more authority than he had. I then called the 800-628-5782 and asked for the name of the president of company. Lisa did not know the name of the Amana president, and said all she could do was to transfer me to Dependability Plus, because I have an extended warranty, endless, repetitive cycle.
I advised all parties that I had not realized I was speaking with two different departments, but since the service was Ok’d, I do not understand the big deal to cancel the work order to A&E Factory Service and transfer it to Convenient Appliance Service. Oh no, this can’t possibly be done!
Not only do I apparently have a faulty piece of equipment, this is a company dedicated to providing customer frustration. This could have been so easily solved, but agents have dug their heels in, and will be damned if they will help the customer. This is the very last Whirlpool/Amana product I will purchase. Remember, this is the second time the freezer stopped freezing in less than 1-1/2years. Customer service is a joke and we wonder why jobs go overseas? I am stuck with a $97 bill, my freezer problem is still unresolved and I have wasted an entire day. My B/P is soaring. I regret ever purchasing an Amana product and certainly an extended warranty.

I purchased an Amana French-door refrigerator, model AFD2535DES, in August 2004 as part of a kitchen remodel. I paid $2400 for it. I've had 3 repair calls on it in less than 5 years and when I opened it this morning, everything was warm.
Of course, there's no repair person available on Sunday. The first call was to replace something involving the fan; the part had a 1-year warranty and failed 3 months after the warranty expired. The repair bill was about $150, plus loss of all the food in the refrigerator and freezer. A year later, something else went bad -- this time it was a $260 service call, plus the loss of all the frozen and refrigerated food.
In March 2009, the thing died again. I again lost all the food and this time, the compressor had burned up. It was under warranty until August 2009, so I only had to pay for the service call, which was $64. However the service man warned me that Amana would not cover another motor replacement. Guess what? This morning, June 2009, I opened the refrigerator and it was warm inside. Everything in the freezer has thawed. The motor is not running. So now it's service call #4 -- and likely a new compressor.

We bought this washer in June of 2005. We decided on an Amana because it was a well known brand and the price was decent since we were getting a bit of a break buying all new appliances for the kitchen as well (not Amanas by the way). Now, we know why the salesman gave us a break—to get rid of a piece of junk! This washer went belly up after exactly 4 years. I went to wash a load of laundry and it filled up fine, but then when it got to the agitate cycle it just started grinding and vibrating and the agitator was not turning. We called in a repairman that told us that it was the transmission. The transmission has a ten-year warranty, so it was still covered; however, in order to change the transmission, a seal kit must be changed. That is not covered and costs around $100 plus you have to pay for labor. The estimate for repair was $286, which is almost only $100 less than we paid for the machine new 4 years ago! What a rip off!
Now, we still have to pay a $50 service charge even though we're not getting it repaired. We called customer service at Amana and after being put on hold for almost 30 minutes (the entire call took 45), my husband detailed the situation to the representative and pointed out to her that the "warranty" on the transmission was essentially worthless since the seal kit was not being covered, making the repair cost compared to the price new 4 years ago not worth it. All they would offer us was 15% off a new Amana appliance. No way! First of all, 15% is a crap offer when you have to replace a major appliance after only 4 years; second, why would we buy another Amana when we got a piece of junk from them before with a worthless warranty? The ironic thing is that a 15% discount would probably be about the same price out of their pocket as the seal kit, so why not just cover the seal kit and keep your customers happy? It doesn't make sense to me.
When they would not offer anything else, my husband asked them if what they wanted was for us to go away and never buy another Amana (or Maytag since they are both owned by the same company now) appliance ever again and tell everyone we know to stay away from them. The, answer, essentially, was yes. Stay away from Amana. After this, I have read reviews on other sites on not just their washers but other appliances. They seem to get very low reviews and are junk. So now our family of 5, including a 6-month old baby, is out a washing machine after only 4 years of service from this one. We have to somewhere find the money for a new one when we live on a strict budget and one income so that I can be a stay-at-home mom.
We had a washing machine before this one that was a hand-me-down from a friend that was already 17 years old when we got it. We had it an additional 4 years and never had a problem with it. I believe it was a Whirlpool. The only reason we bought a new one was that we were moving and decided not to take our appliances with us since it was a long distance move. I wish we had brought that old washer with us. It would probably still be working today! Only getting 4 years out of a washing machine is **.

I was washing my clothes today in my model #NFW7200TW, serial #11885288LV Amana front loading washing machine. I went to change the load and noticed water all over the floor and the door was foggy. But I thought something had come unhooked and didn't pay attention. I reached in my washer and started pulling out clothes and as I was almost done, I noticed rattling and knew I hadn't had anything that would rattle in the load. I looked closer and there was a huge chunk of glass (7-10 sq. inches) laying in amongst my clothes and as I looked even closer, there were shreds and chunks of glass all through my clothes. I looked at the door and to my dismay, the inside of the door was missing a huge chunk of glass and there were cracks going all over.
I called the Maytag dealership where we purchased it from and they said due to the fact we purchased it in March of ‘08 that it was no longer under warranty and they couldn't get anyone out until Monday to look at it. I've been so upset I had a lot of laundry to catch up on this weekend. Now I will be heading to the Laundromat and I will have to check my complete load carefully to make sure that all the glass is picked out of it and hopefully I won't get cut and hopefully none of our clothes are ripped from the glass. I’m not happy at all.
This is very dangerous and the glass is obviously defective if it would break and crack like that when we have owned it for a little over a year and it was manufactured in November of ’07. So from its birth, it is not even two years old. I'm just wondering if there has been a recall or if this problem has happened anywhere else. I'm very glad I didn't have a trip to the ER out of this.
The inner glass of door was broken and shattered. It was cracked during wash cycle. There is possible loss of clothes and near physical injury. I am hoping I can even find all the glass and make sure my little girls are not cut by any of the clothes. I hate to throw them all away because I had done a new clothing load and so it would be an even bigger loss than what it already is.

My 3-1/2 yr. old Amana refrigerator (actually Whirlpool) part (not freezer) stopped working the week of 03/08/09. I called Whirlpool, since the fridge was under warranty. Whirlpool contracts service with Metro Factory Service and set up an appointment for 03/17/09. I called MFS first to ask if there was a service charge and was told 3x no. I took the day off and the service person came at 2 pm on 03/17/09. As soon as he entered the house, he told me that I would have to sign an agreement for a $134.95 service charge.
After speaking to his manager, I felt I had no choice or he would leave without repair. He looked at the refrigerator and took apart the freezer section. When he put it back, he told me that I needed a part that cost $135 and they would have to order it. I gave him a check for $229.43 (leaving a balance of $62 or $67). A few hours after the service man left, I noticed that the refrigerator section was cold. By Friday, 03/20/09, I still had not received a follow-up appointment. Since the refrigerator section was still cold, I placed my food from the cooler back into the refrigerator and called MFS about the part.
They gave me an appointment for Monday, 03/23/09, and by the end of Friday, they called to cancel stating the part was not in. Although the refrigerator was still working, I was nervous that it was only temporary. I set up an appointment for Friday, 03/27/09 morning, as I was off from work then. A different service person from MFS came at 11 am, and when he saw that the refrigerator was working and had been working for over a week, he checked it over and told me that it did not appear to need the part that was ordered. He said that he would let the MFS office know that I hadn't used the part and ask that I be refunded.
I called MFS, that Friday afternoon, the 30th and 31st, leaving messages about being reimbursed. I started to threaten them with calling Consumer Affairs. On Wed. there were 3 messages on my answering machine at home stating that I would be reimbursed but it would take 2-1/2 weeks. There was also a voice mail message on my phone at work, from Stella, a manager, indicating that I would be reimbursed less a 20% stocking fee - a total of $62.13. I called her back to argue about the stocking fee, explaining that I didn't order the part and her serviceman determined it was not needed. She also informed me that there was tax on the original service call of $134.95 bringing that cost up to $148. I argued about that with her also. I feel that I am owed full reimbursement of $94.48, after subtracting out the service charge of $134.95.

It has not been cool for the last several days and we placed a refrigerator thermometer and the temp is 60 degrees should be between 34 and 40 degrees. It was a nightmare trying to get in touch with anyone who could give me a straight answer. In fact I never did. I had to schedule a service call which will take two days of waiting for a call to confirm and the actual service call of course between the hours of 8am to 5pm. After reading all of these horror stories I am wondering if we would be better off just to buy a different refrigerator from someone else. Of course all the food....... This is horrible that so many could be taken advantage of with no recourse. I, too, thought Amana was a standup brand! Thanks for the venting opportunity!

In 2004, I purchased an Amana slide in electric top range with touchpad. I had to have touchpad replaced in Nov. 2006. Now, I will have to have touchpad replaced again in Jan. 2009. It seems to be that the touchpad is not insulated from the oven heat and causes the touchpad to fail with an F-1 code and beep tone. We do not use the oven all that much but now, we are replacing the touchpad every two years? I saw many other complaints about this same product. Class action, anyone?

We purchased an Amana stove in December 2005 (serial number ACS7270AS). Since we have purchased this stove, we are now replacing the touch pad for the 2nd time in the last two years. I called Amana tonight to ask them questions about the stove. They reassured me that the stove was man-made and that if I'm having a problem with the stove, they couldn't explain why because they have no reports of anyone else having the same problems. The supervisor did offer me 15% off of a new stove made by their company. Both times the F-1 problem has happened, it was during the Christmas holidays - except this last time it was on Christmas morning. We had to cook our turkey outside because the oven wouldn't stay on.
It was a total disaster for me and my family. We still haven't gotten the problem fixed, but hopefully the part will be in by the first of next week. For now we are eating out or cereal or stuff that can be cooked on a grill because my stove is a lemon.

I have had my dryer about 2 yrs. and the same part keeps failing. I just had it replaced a month ago and it's broken again! I believe the part is the thermo fuse. I am so tired of waiting for and paying repairmen, I'm about to go nuts! I should get a new dryer from Amana for all my trouble!

First, let me just say that we had a windstorm like no other that had ever gone through our area and we lost power for 3 days. During that time, we lost everything in our refrigerator and freezer and our deep freeze. Very happy when the power came back on but upset that everything had to be replaced in the refrigerator and freezer. So here it is, about two weeks later and several hundred dollars later. This morning I get up to find everything in the frig is room temperature. All the refrigeratable groceries I have are ruined for the second time in about 3 weeks. I call the 800 number listed in my Model AFD2535DEB frig. I had to have the serial number and model number. This was purchased new Jan 23, 2006 but I was informed, of course, the warranty is expired.
I was on the phone for an extremely long time only to get transferred and told that they don't deal with Amana, only Maytag, and I would have to call some other 800 number (not the one in my frig). Anyway, I call this number and am given a list of 4 service companies and their phone numbers that I can call to get service. The first one I called said they could be out in 14 days! I ended up calling someone local who said he will come out and check on it tomorrow and that it is probably the compressor, since the light comes on and such. Very sad to have spent $1600 on a refrigerator that did not last 3 years:(

In 1991, we bought an Amana stove model arh660hr ser # 9106042866 from Sears. We never thought that we would be having ongoing problems with the hinges for the oven door. I never heard of oven door hinges breaking and causing the oven door to fall from the range. So far, 3 hinges have broken and we have had to repair them at our expense. But last night, it was a different story as my wife had baked a cake and as she opened the oven door, the hinge broke and the burning oven door fell almost causing her severe burns. I have called Amana and they really could care less but this is a problem where a person could be hurt or maimed. Seems to me that the manufacturer should either recall the stove or replace the defective hinges at no cost to the original consumer. If my wife had been burned, I would have looked for recourse from Amana. So tomorrow, I have to call a repairman to come to replace the defective hinge with another manufactured one exactly the same as the 3 that broke. I hope that you can help us.

We bought a new Amana washer in 2004 and within the 1st year needed the main bearings replaced under warranty. These same main bearings need replacing again at an estimated cost to us of several hundred dollars. We owned Maytag/Amana products in the past because of their quality products but it seems their new products are lacking in quality design and materials.

I bought an $1,800 Amana refrigerator in 2002. In the first three years we had three services calls because of excessive moisture inside unit and icing inside of the refrigerator side as well as freezing of vegetables/fruit in the bins. On the last of the three service calls the technician identified a sagging hinge as the problem and was able to repair the hinge to improve the seal on the doors.
The hinge broke this year again. While waiting for a part the compressor failed. When the technician returned a week later with the hinge part we were told it would cost $700 to replace the compressor, in addition to the $150 we had just spent on hinge replacement. Since I am unwilling to throw more good money after bad, here we are tossing $1,800 into a landfill along with the the cost of 5 service calls. I'm livid! A refrigerator should last 15-20 years, not 6!
Loss of food; loss of investment in appliance, service call costs

We purchased October of 2001 an Amana Distinctions commercial quality washer. Model# DLW 330RAW. Not long after we had it conveniently just out or warranty,it began leaking all over the floor. The motor would shake all the time. It never seemed to rinse clothes completely, many times I had to re-rinse the load, would never fully spin out the clothes always had to run it through the spin cycle twice. The final problem was when I smelled burning rubber and went downstairs to find the entire basement filled with smoke. The belt melted all over the motor and started melting the plastic parts.
No washer have to purchase a new washer.
