    I was an ADT customer and had been for many years. However when I moved out of our main house, I ended up going through another vendor that ADT contracts with named Defender and didn't realize it. When my contract with them finally expired, I called ADT direct since I wanted to make sure that I was only dealing directly with ADT. I explained that I would be moving in approximately 2 months depending on how long it took my place to sell but I didn't want to wait and not have any security alarm protection.

    When the sales guy came to my place, I explained this and he stated it wouldn't be a problem. I would get a movers credit, etc. What he didn't tell me and now I have come to find out is that the pricing that I signed a two year contract for just back in November 2016 would not be honored. ADT now wants to break my contract and start with a new contract and new pricing! I can't break my contract without getting gauges with penalties but ADT can in order to increase my monthly rate!

    I have made numerous attempts to contact the sales guys manager; he never returned any calls. I called customer service and spent over an hour in the phone with a lady that stated she would take notes and have a manager call me. I completed an online survey and stated for ADT to call me. I have not heard from anyone!

    To top it all off, ADT is still billing me for service and I have NO service. I sold my place and have moved. They never contacted me but now that I am not paying a monthly fee for a service that I'm not getting and cannot get because no one is responding to my calls, they are trying to contact me to get their monthly fee. This is absurd! I plan on taking this to an expert that can help me and hundreds of other consumers that have dealt with this same scam! I cannot believe that this company is still in business! They have so many bad reviews it's unbelievable!

    We were with ADT years ago. We quit them and went to Brink's but they bought out Brink's. So far, the services are okay, but we have to have a certificate in order to receive the deduction for our insurance billing. On that certificate it needs to say that we have wireless which we do. However that is not provided by ADT and they have something else that's on there. And every year it gets to be an issue. Every year I write ADT and every year I put it on a questionnaire but nothing ever gets resolved.

    We got Brinks a long time ago. Then they said I'm now with ADT and we have stayed that way. The installers were good people and knew what they were doing. Also, they have good reaction time and are very attentive. I've made mistakes on getting out of the house and they call right back to let me know that the alarm went off.

    After over 10 years of being a customer with ADT, I called to cancel service because I am moving. They mailed me the last bill and charged me for an additional month of service after I had cancelled & moved. I called ADT & they said this is their "company policy" to charge for one month after cancellation date. What a rip off!! I will never use them again.

    ADT customer for many years. At the beginning of February I called ADT to get 3 more sensors installed due to my house's renovation. While on the phone they quoted me $ 400 for the installation which, in my opinion it was outrageous. So I decided to cancel their service (I do not have a contract with them) and to contact a different alarm company.

    From that moment they started calling me -even twice a day- asking to please reconsider my decision to cancel and give them another chance. After many phone calls they made me an offer: $ 50 to install the 3 sensors, monthly service fees for $ 19.99 and No contract... So I accepted and I made the appointment for a technician to come to my house and install the devices. On 2/11/2017, Saturday, the technician showed up in my house, installed the devices and after that he told me that the total cost for his service was $ 196.00, that I had to sign a 3 years contract, and that there was NOT a monthly fees of $ 19.99!!!!

    At my request he called ADT to try to get to the bottom of what the sales department told me compared to what they had told him. After half hour on the phone he left apologizing with me for the situation and telling me that it was NOT the first time that he had found himself in the same situation because "they" always promise something different compared to what they really do.

    Monday morning 2/13/2017 I called ADT customer service to ask for an explanation and after transferred from one department to another I was finally able to talk with a manager who apologize with me for the inconvenience, told me that I was right and that he was going to call me back as soon as everything was clear. Didn't hear from anybody on Tuesday so I called again on Wednesday to make sure that they were not going to charge me the wrong amount because, unfortunately, they have my bank account information on file.

    Same story... From one representative to another... And then the last person I spoke to told me very clearly that: "NO, they DO NOT offer a monthly fees of $19.99, NO they DO NOT offer service without contract, and NO nowhere in my file there was a note for the special price of $ 50 to install the new sensors. I told him to cancel IMMEDIATELY my service because their actions are fraudulent and they promise things already knowing that it was a lie. At that point the person informed me that, even without a contract, there is a 30 days cancellation notice and that they will bill me again... Which forced me to call my bank and put a stop payment for every charge coming from ADP (which will cost me $ 30 for each time they will try!!). Shame on you ADT!!

    I have been an ADT customer for many years and have had some issues with them but remained a customer of theirs. Recently, I contacted them to update my control panel. I was interested in the mobile touch pad. Upon speaking with Jonathan, he set up and order an installation for me which was suppose to take place tomorrow 2/17. I had some easy question and called today to speak with a representative. Well the first representative could not answer my question (I asked if my new panel will have the remote key fobs with it) he transferred me to another rep. Upon speaking with that rep, I come to find out that the control panel I was supposed to have installed was not the one I wanted. In addition, I was being charged $50.00 for a bracket I didn't even need and $59.00 install fee.

    After spending a half hour on the phone with the representative, he told me the panel I have on order was not guaranteed to work with the system I have now. I said the rep who set up the order told me that it would work. How does ADT representatives not know about the equipment they sell? And why is a consumer being charged for something that is not needed? This very upsetting and frustrating. I guess it's time to break away from ADT.

    Bottom line: I was lied to from the beginning, and at every turn of this debacle, by every ADT employee I spoke with, bar none. I would never have started service if I knew ADT would not let me move the $1400 in equipment that I was promised would move with me, nor would I have started service if I knew ADT would force a new, extended contract when we moved.

    Here is the longer version, but this is still just the tip of the iceberg: Last year, we moved into a rental home that was marketed as having an alarm system; we just needed to call an alarm company to start monitoring service. We had received the usual moving coupons, among them ADT, and there was an ADT label on the keypad, so we called the coupon number. I was told a number of lovely lies and because of those lies scheduled an appointment to have my alarm switched on. A "tech" (really a salesman, I only realized later) came into our home and told me that all the equipment was out of order - literally every sensor - and all would have to be replaced. But good news! I get a big fat credit for equipment because of that great coupon, so it will only cost me $1200 today, plus the $99 installation fee, of course, and service would cost $35 a month.

    I did not want the three year contract that the tech insisted was non-negotiable (remember, he is actually a salesman). I explained that we would only live in the home for one year because it was just a rental and we were planning to buy a home once the lease was up. Lucky me, I could move all of the $1200 in equipment I installed today and even the $700 in "free" equipment ADT so generously provided thanks to that amazing coupon! I could move everything to my new house and "no, of course not, Ma'am, we will NOT restart your contract."

    I told the tech (salesman) that I absolutely would not sign any three year contract. He told me he would ask his boss, and left my house and walked out to his car and "called" his boss, who, miracle of miracles, said we COULD do a two year contract, after all. I was very upset by now, because the tech (salesman) had overheard my kids talking about our vacation plans, and honestly felt like if I didn't have the alarm installed right then, he'd be back to rob me the next day when we left.

    To make a long story longer, let's recap: ADT offered me a 2-yr contract that I could take to my new home without extending the contract length AND I could take every piece of equipment with me when I moved. I would only pay $35 a month for the service, and it was a wired system, not a cellular system. The tech (salesman) "convinced" his boss that not only could we do a 2-yr contract, but that we should only have to pay $700 for the new equipment instead of the $1200 he quoted me because I had "misunderstood" the mailed coupon. Gee, thanks. OK, so surprise, surprise, right away, ADT starts charging me about double the monitoring fee I was quoted.

    I struggled with ADT on the phone for many hours over many days, and they finally "found" the recorded message of the ADT phone rep telling me that I would pay only $35 a month, among many other promises that lined up with the lies the tech (salesman) told me. Eventually a higher up "gave" me a $45 per month fee. That's $10 more per month than I was quoted by a coupon and two ADT representatives.

    So, fast forward one and a half years. We purchased a home and called ADT right before we moved to transfer the service to our new home. Because I was lied to so badly in the beginning, I thankfully thought to ask many questions to verify this would be a simple transfer. Nope. Big shocker: I could NOT transfer my contract without starting another three year contract - oh, that's right, they said I had a 3-year contract when I had been promised it had been changed to 2. I also could not move ANY of that equipment I had purchased - that was $700 worth of equipment I paid for, plus the equipment ADT threw in with the coupon deal that I had been told I could take with me. I was livid, to say the least. Since the new home was already wired with ADT equipment, I told him to schedule the salesman (now I know not to believe they are technicians of any sort) to come switch on the service.

    I explained that I would not sign anything until the salesman confirmed that the current system was in working order (it looks new), and I would not be told by the salesman that it was all broken and I'd have to buy all new equipment, like last time. The salesman shows up at the new house, and tells me he can't start work, not even to look over the equipment that is right in front of his face, until I sign an 8-page contract. Hahahahahaha. I told him I was told he actually COULD look over the equipment before starting work. He went outside to "call" his boss. "So sorry, Ma'am, my boss said I have to have the contract signed before I do anything." I told him that he wasn't needed after all, and that I would never do business with ADT again.

    I don't believe he had ever had someone actually refuse to sign the contract before. He looked shocked. I have blocked ADT on my credit card, and I will never pay them a dime in unfulfilled contract fees. I pay what I owe, however, I don't owe ADT anything: I was lied to from the beginning and at every turn of this debacle, by every ADT employee I spoke with, bar none. I would never have started service if I knew I would leave $700 of my own money behind, nor would I have started service if I knew ADT would force a new, extended contract on me when I was promised that the contract would not be extended if I moved. There are tons of new and inexpensive security solutions nowadays; nobody should use ADT, an outdated mafia-inspired system that uses "protection" as an inroad for extortion. I hope this review protects at least one person from ever using ADT.

    PS, ADT, if you're reading this, your radio commercials are asinine: "Draw a line in the sand" means to dare someone to cross the line. I really don't want my home security system to be perceived by criminals as a dare, thanks.

    ADT is excellent and we're very happy with them as our security system. We've had them for so long. Anytime we've had a problem, they've been very helpful. I've screwed up turning it on a couple of times and they call and get me squared away. We used to go to Arkansas and that was the only time we would put it on. But then we had break-ins in Brookfield, our very nice suburban area, so we put it on every time we leave and even at night. ADT is a sense of security for us. We've not had any problems with people breaking in.

    ADT assigned Technical Support with Defenders, Inc. DBA Protect and scheduled an installation of their alarm security system in our business, which is a church. The installation was never installed correctly & our telephones are not workable due to incorrect installation of the alarm systems lines. Per our phone provider. Manny came out immediately and doubled check the phone lines & stated, have we had an alarm system installed recently. The answer was yes on 11/16/16. He stated, that it appears the alarm system lines are interfering with our phone lines. He suggested to call ADT and request a monitoring Service Tests to check their lines to see if they are ran correctly, which we did on 1/26/17. The results were the alarm system is not working at all.

    I have been on the telephone since that date trying to get our services back up and running. I have received nothing but promises to come but no date & time. After more calls gave me a date of 2/21/17, which is unacceptable due to we have no phone service, neither is the facility protected. I call on 2/14/17, spoke with Bob, said he was from the Corporate office. I requested cancellation of your service immediately so we can move on.

    On today, 2/15/17, I received a call from Emly stating that since we requested a cancellation we would be charged 75% of total monitoring bill due. The contract stated we were to allow them at least three chances to correct the problem & we only made a request on 2/1/17. I stated we have not had any service from ADT or Defenders since installation for one attempt, and I have called at least 10 times, and also written letters to ADT & Defenders regarding others issues we had with them. I stated "you do what you need to do, and I will do what I need to do." The only respond we have received from Defenders is from a collection agency trying to collect a permit debt which we already had on file & paid for. This is unacceptable, and poor service for a positive Customer Service.

    December 2016, I upgraded my current ADT service to include an outdoor camera after a few packages was stolen at my front door. I paid over $200 for the upgrade. A technician comes the following week and installs a "Ring" video doorbell. I was surprised to see that they were installing a proprietary product. The sales department did not mention that when I placed the order. The installer told me that ADT would have access to recorded video if it should ever be needed by law enforcement. They NEVER said I had to pay Ring after the first 30 days $30 a year or $3 a month for video recording! To keep my bill affordable the sales rep up-sold me (while doing the install) on a hub and dimmer switch and an additional indoor camera. None of which work consistently. Ring disconnected my video recording after 30 days.

    I called ADT customer service in January and was told that ADT has an agreement with Ring for video recording and that I should not have to pay Ring a monthly fee. I call Ring back and they said they knew nothing of an agreement with ADT. So, here I am again... the hub and indoor video camera is not working and the dimmer is not automatically turning on the lights. Also, Ring has turned off video recording from the doorbell camera again. I called ADT and was told they are not going to do anything about the $30 or $3 a month fee to Ring. I spoke with D.D. who said she was a supervisor and she said all they will do is give me a $15 credit! That is not acceptable when I was told 2x that video recording was included with the Ring doorbell. Without the recording feature it is useless if a crime is committed at or near your door! There has been constant billing errors ever since I upgraded. I have been a loyal customer of ADT since 2009.

    I find it appalling that for $30 and a mistake that they made they would rather lose me as a customer! Twice, I was told by an ADT representative that the video recording with Ring is included in my ADT monthly rate. Now, that I signed a 3-year contract they don't want to own up to the mistake. My home was previously wired for the Vivint security system. I don't want to deal with ADT anymore. I have been lied to 2x in the past on a install/upgrade. They act like they're doing me a favor by offering me $15? That's NOT owning up to their mistake!! I could have gone to Lowe's or Walmart and bought the Ring video doorbell myself and not have my rate increase for ADT devices that don't work consistently! I feel inconvenienced and mislead! I can and will take my business elsewhere! Disappointing!

    In December of 2015 I started a small tax preparation business that's only open from December until April. Knowing there would be sensitive information in the office, I decided to get a security system for the office. I ended up calling the first company that came up on the search engine which was ADT Security. Within a couple of days they sent a sales rep out to our office to go over their different plans. The rep made me feel so comfortable, not knowing it was a set up to later be lied to. I was told by the sales rep that I was only agreeing to a 36 month price lock but I could cancel at any time without an penalties.

    A few months after the office closed in 2016, I spoke with someone from ADT and explained to them that the office was closed and that I no longer needed the services as there were not files or client information that needed to be protected. For several months I continued to be billed by ADT. At the end of December of 2016 I spoke with another rep from ADT and explained to them that we were back in the office and the system was not working. I explained to the rep that I didn't have a problem continuing to use their service as long as someone came out to fix the system. The rep ensured me that they would get someone out to come fix the issue. It's not February of 2017 and no one has come back out. ADT has continued to bill my account.

    This morning I spoke with ADT rep, Randy (**) who initially was rude with me. She informed that my account was never cancelled and it has to be in writing. I was never informed by the first five or six reps that my cancellation needed to be in writing. I'm now being told that I can't cancel because I'm in a 36 month agreement. I explained to Randy that I would have never agreed to a 36 month agreement for a first time business. Plus, I was told by the sales rep that business accounts didn't have contract commitments.

    Now after over a month, ADT is telling me they can send someone out to fix the system for two hours at no cost. I informed Randy that my trust in the ADT company had been lost. I had been lied to too many times to the point I refused to use their company for any of my future needs. When I asked Randy to escalate my issue, in an offensive tone, I was told that there is no one else that I can speak with and that any issue needed to be sent in writing. At this point I've lost trust in the ADT company and am disappointed how they conducted business.

    I was given misleading information when I called. This was verified by a manager who listened to the recorded messages. Repeated calls to the company have resulted in runarounds by several different people. I still have not had resolution 6 weeks later. My calls are not returned. I thought I was contracting with ADT and then was told Defenders was the company on record for the first 3 months. Several newspaper and flyer ads gave different phone numbers and different information about equipment. I left a good alarm company for a very bad one.

    I have had ADT for around 12 years and have been ok with the service except customer service people and a incident a little while ago. First any time I have spoken to CS every one have has been unfriendly and I had to beg for help. Anybody can say whatever they want. The most recent thing is my DVR crapped out so they replaced with a very cheap and no remote and very loud fan with no remote. No instruction manual or any documentation. I asked and got a appointment for the cheap DVR and problems of using my security system to go back and view things. They called ahead of time and said the DVR I got is it. Asked for a manager, said that is the DVR and that's it... I also have warranty. Not satisfied.

    I've lived in one house for six years and in another house for over 20, and sometime during that period I decided I needed a security system and I selected ADT. I had the house built wired with the security system so six years ago when I first moved in, I had the main ADT program installed and activated. It's working and ADT does a check once a month. It's silent but efficient. There's nothing that has caused me to make me want to change, although other security systems are advertising quite a bit and some of their features sound very interesting as well as considering that I would have to increase my monthly payment if I were to add some of the similar systems with ADT.

    We moved to the country "where you don't even have to lock your doors" but we did anyway. We were broken into the first year. That's when we had ADT installed. We joked that we were like Fort Knox now. We are both retired now and home all the time so we don't set the alarm but we lock the doors!

    Do not even call them if you receive a gift card in your mail box! You will never meet the condition for the gift card offer. This is the only one company that charges you ($105.19) for a quote and charges you a second time when you decide to not sign a contract with them. They don't leave any room for thinking about the offer, comparing with other providers or even reading the contract.

    First they will rip you off by sending a bunch of college sales kids to come and convince you need all this equipment, then their crappy system malfunctions and I get stuck with $800 worth of false alarm bills. Then send out incompetent techs that accidentally break your stuff (they dropped my window AC unit out the door). Now one of the tickets I couldn't pay just went to collections screwing up my credit. Thanks ADT. Now to make things worse instead of helping me and following up with corrective measures they are only concerned about when you are going to pay them. I wouldn't recommend ADT to my worst enemy.

    I saw ADT next door so I got one too. However, I got a little annoyed because I wanted to add two more windows and they want to give me two cameras. I told them I can do the windows but I'll get the cameras when I can afford it or, I can get one camera at a time. I know it's about $100 for a window and I got two windows that I wanted done. I thought I’d have a camera on two corners of the house, northwest and the southeast. But they want to do it all at one time and I don't need that then and I couldn't afford everything at one time. It's not good because it doesn't speak good for the company. I still have the old system because their system came in after I had another system. And that did the windows and they put the little hickeys on it. I had that for about 10 years with an alarm on it, but they don't use that now.

    Generally, during the day I don't bother to use the system because I'm here and I carry my key that I can punch at any time and that brings the police. Even when I get out the car at night, I carry it in my hand. So, if somebody gets in my back, I can always punch it. So far, I'm satisfied with them. When I make a mistake or turn the wrong button, I can clear it right up and I let them know. But sometimes, my children come in and if they don't remember, I just tell them. Overall, they're good, but I think they could accommodate me a little better now that I'm in the age bracket where I can't afford everything at one time. I'm 90 years old and I can take care of my business as long as I can and when I can. If they want to come and do one at a time or give me some leniency on that, I do pay it up but sometimes it takes me a little time.

    I called ADT on August 5, 2016 to terminate service at my office. I was told by the agent representing ADT that I would need to write a letter on letterhead, and that it would take 10 days for the company to process the letter. I wrote and sent a letter that same day. I received no response the entire month of August. In September I got a bill. I returned the bill with a copy of the Aug 5, 2016 letter explaining that service had been terminated. In October I received a bill. I got back on the phone, and on Oct 28 the company replied that they'd received my correspondence and that I had to send a letter on company letterhead. I mailed AND faxed my August 5 letter.

    In November I received a bill and a letter saying that the company wanted to talk to me, but if I wanted to proceed with the cancellation there was nothing else I needed to do. In December I received another bill. I returned it with copies of all correspondence. In January I received a bill that I returned to sender. Now I have a debt collector making threatening noises about my credit rating and how ADT deserves to have my payment. From the initial promise of 10 processing days, I'm still dealing with this unwanted nuisance.

    I hate this company! They use very deceptive practices to get a sale. They advertise you will get $1500 worth of equipment with 15 window and door sensors. This is a lie! The guy came out and accessed our house with 3 exterior doors and 22 windows. The advertised 15 sensors was a good start. However the salesman was so cunning that he had everyone worn out and confused. We ended up getting 3 door sensors 0 window sensors and a glass break detector. Somehow we only got $800 worth of equipment.

    I had to leave early and did not get to stay and authorize the deal. My daughter finalized the deal. This is against company policy. I called ADT right away to complain. They did nothing to make things right. I was lied to about why I didn't get $1500 equipment then hung up on. I have had nothing but problems with the alarm not working right. Seriously considering talking to an attorney to file a class action lawsuit against this company. I would never recommend this company!

    I ordered service over the phone and then decided to go with Vivint instead. When the ADT technician came for his appointment, I informed him that I decided to go with Vivint in order to receive the service I desired. The ADT person asked me what I was going to be getting and I told him. He said that he would give me all the same items for the same price. I said... hey.. why not. He told me the items I wanted would have to be ordered and would be installed in two weeks. Three weeks later, I called ADT and was told they do not offer the items at all. On top of it, the guy had me sign a contract for the increased priced which I thought included the items and ADT will do nothing to help me. I was told they would not decrease my charge to the original agreed upon fee when I set up the appointment. This is a very deceptive company. The customer service employees are horrible... they will not listen to any complaints.

    The installer arrived pretty much when he said and was very nice. I did the wireless system so only a couple of holes in the wall. From there downhill. I was supposed to get my special at $27.99 with 15 window connections and a panel box and door contacts was included in the 15. I only received 2 of the contacts because he said I didn't any more than that. I received one door alarm and until I read the reviews I don't know if it's been installed correctly. He put a couple of window contacts on because he said I didn't need any more than that.

    I didn't get a contract to read because he had an Ipad and told me to sign to give him permission to put in it in. He also sold me a blue light for $44.00 which I gave him permission to put on my Credit card. So he had permission to charge the $99.00 fee and the $44.00 for the blue light. When I received my c/c bill I was charged all the previous and they charged my first month and a half for $73.49 which they did not have permission to do. Now if my monthly bill is $27.99 how can a month and a half be $73.49?

    I immediately called my credit card company and they stopped payment on that amount. I told the C/C people to not let any more charges from these people to go through. The next bill they tried to send $110.00 through and I have no idea what that was for but the C/C didn't accept it. I talked to some man at the Defender (which I didn't even know this company was involved) he said I had no protection on my equipment. I could buy it for $9.00 more a month which it came to $36.99. I told him I had not planned on that kind of money. He preceded to give me several debit cards to make up the difference and it came close. I then find out that I was not told they had to buy a permit to install the system in my house. I didn't believe him so I called my city and they had bought one. The only truth so far. I went online to pay my bill and I figured after all the problems I had had I read the terms and conditions.

    After I read what they had in them there was no way I was making a payment online and agreeing to their terms. So I waited until I received a call and then she said my payment was $93.49 and I told her no way. It was $73.49 and what was $20.00 for? She looked again and said I looked at it wrong. I have never in my life dealt with more dishonest people. I still owe the $50.00 and I will send it in a check as soon as I get a paper bill. My FOB only works when it wants to but even with the protection plan it will cost $60.00 to replace it. Can't win for losing with this company and I don't even know if I can count on their protection. Like I said when contract is finished so am I.

    I had another company before and ADT bought them out, and I stayed with ADT. I pay for it by the year, which has been great for me. They gave me a 5% discount for doing it and I've had no problem with it. It's something I set up to do to begin with and I've stuck with it over the years. When my alarm goes off, all the salespeople call immediately. The batteries went out one time and they put in a new battery for me and they did it very quickly. Another time I thought that the alarm system was set and when we left the house, it went out. Then the police came, they called and sent in my daughter. Everything worked great and ADT did a good job. I would recommend them to anybody.

    Three months ago I responded to a brochure from ADT. The company came to install the system. The technician was here from 9-5 when I asked him to leave. He was rude, belligerent and refused to leave. I threatened to call the police. The second technician spent five hours trying to reprogram the system. I had service for one month. After that I have had a yellow triangle telling me the system is not connecting with ADT. ADT now tells me that the keypad installed is not adequate for my house.

    I asked Defenders to install a booster. The third technician came out and told me they did not supply him with a booster and that the system is really connected without any interruption. When I told him that ADT headquarters told me they do not have a signal from my house he just shrugged his shoulders. The technicians with Defenders are not qualified to install and service the equipment. You have to go direct to ADT. Do not be led into an agreement with Defenders.

    My experience is that ADT charged me for installing new equipment even after I turned equipment in from previous location. Secondly, ADT did not regard the time put in the contract period, which was over 18 months. Instead, they began and extended a new contract period of 3 years. They charged me over $800 to have system put in at new location, which also already had a system in place. In addition the new system malfunctioned, causing disconnect in monitoring and inability to use remote pulse to set or disable alarm, forcing me to go to a hotel due to feeling unsafe, over 65, living alone. Refused to let me out of contract and/or adjust charges.

    I've had service from ADT when I was living in Santa Cruz. I went on the yellow pages and at that time I didn't have any reviews on the services because I didn't pay too much attention to it. Here in Los Banos where I live right now, since I have had service with ADT before, I didn't see any reason not to go back to them because they provided good service. I called them and I said I wanted to install the system here in this other house and there was no haggling, no discussion of anything that I could get a better system for this money. What I was getting was what I had in mind and we didn't discuss prices. There was no sales pitch on their part and I wasn't expecting one. They just sent a technician home and then that was it.

    The only thing I have is a system that does not depend on my house phone to communicate with the control center at ADT. It's just a normal system with motion sensors. I had a little scare sometime ago and they were prompt to call and they gave me the reason why the incident happened which was a problem with one of the motion sensors. It decided to go off in the middle of the night and I never expected that. I was positive at that time that somebody was in the house, but that was not the case. They calmed me down and everything worked out and since then I've not had any incidents. Overall they are trustworthy, very helpful and they know their job. They did a good job installing the equipment, they provided what I wanted and I'm happy with it.

    My experience with ADT lately has not been very good because the alarm goes off for no apparent reason. I don't know why but it only happens at night because that's when I turn it on prior to going to bed. There's a recording that says there's a movement but there is no movement because I have all the doors shut and nothing is going on. And then sometimes it's very hard to turn off. Or the minute I turn it back on within a minute or so, it goes off again. They were going to send some batteries but I haven't received them yet. So that's what I've been waiting for.

    Not long ago, a man came out and had switched out the old batteries and put in a new set. And it has been less than a year. So, I'm guessing they're trying to figure out why this has happened so soon and so frequently. Also, a recording comes on to inform me that the alarm is going off but I don't need to be told the alarm has gone off. It's annoying because that's what woke me up and I know nothing is wrong. I wonder if it happens during the day and someone is trying to attempt to call me and I'm not at home, or if they call somebody on my emergency list, it's going to disrupt them because they're at work. Fortunately, nothing has happened during the day which I'm thankful.

    Other than that, I've had no problem with the service or the company itself. I'm not dissatisfied with ADT. I'm dissatisfied with the malfunction of the unit which doesn't have anything to do with ADT. Sometimes it'll go a week or two and then all of a sudden, it hits again. And then it does it for two or three days and then it doesn't do it anymore. I even went ahead and checked the contacts to see maybe there was dust on them that may have caused it to go off but I don't even find any dust or anything. So I really don't know.

    My next door neighbor had an ADT system, and most of the systems where I live were ADT so I went with it and I've been happy. I've had an upgrade since I first purchased it. I got the fire and carbon monoxide detector, and put two cameras outside my back door. Somebody tried to break into my house and the alarm went off. The response time was quick, the deputy came out, but nobody actually got in. I've set a camera on my deck by the back door and I got one on the inside by that door. So if somebody does get in through that door, I can tell who it is because the camera takes pictures. I haven't had any trouble since I put the cameras up.

    The guy who came and hooked up the system was nice. He gave me his number and told me to call him if I had any trouble. He also set up my phone for me, where the cameras will show up on my cellphone so I could tell who was trying to come in my house. When the alarm goes off it's tied to my cellphone and I could tell who it was even if I wasn't home. I recommended ADT to my parents and they said they're going to switch when their contract with their current provider is up. I also recommended ADT to my mother-in-law and she placed the system in her house. ADT sent me a check for referring her.

    We've been using ADT for three years, and haven’t had any problems with it. We get ready to leave, turn it on, come back, and cut it off. There were a couple of times when we came in and forgot to cut the alarm off or the dogs were out. It went off and we were gone, and the people at ADT canceled it. The only thing that concerned me after the fact was that if somebody wants to break in while we're gone, they could come in. Although the alarm system is going to go off and tell them that it's armed, they could still run through here for ten minutes and pick up something if it was lying around. I called ADT up and asked them about a siren or something because noise is more of a deterrent than the little sound system that goes off inside the house. They came up with some amount of money that I had to pay to get the speakers or the megaphone outside installed but that was out of the question. So far, the system is helping.

    I have been an ADT customer for years, seven to be exact. I recently wanted to upgrade my ADT to include smoke detectors. The installation company did not come within the scheduled time. I had to phone them (ADT) to see what the problem was. After conflicting stories from a worker, then a manager of ADT, I was assured that the installation company would contact me within the next business day for some sort of resolution. Fast forward a week and nobody contacted me. So I phoned ADT back and talked to the same manager. After apologies, I was asked to continue the communication by email. It has been ANOTHER week and neither the manager or the installation company has contacted me. I guess this is how ADT treats customers after continued patronage: neglect and complacency.     We were having break-ins in the neighborhood so I called our realtor and she recommended ADT. The sales rep was very helpful and was able to get somebody to come out and set up the whole system within three days. They came from Tucson which we are about an hour and a half away from. They provided very prompt service.

    We've had a few problems where we've had a lot of high winds and the alarms would go off but they've told us how to bypass the alarm until someone can come out here and fix it.     I was gonna install ADT in my house so when technician came first think he disconnect my entire alarm system without my consent and not in professional way just pull out from mainboard and keypads. I did not question technician first because I assume they are well trained. When come to price I was given crazy number over $5000 so I did not go for that. When technician was leaving he say that my system is reconnected but it will take about 15 min to reset and he left. Next day nothing working so I call ADT customer service and they say that they can't help me and I should call my existing company so I say, "It's fine but who will pick up the bill for reconnecting my system?" Answer was, "Not us. You will have to pay for it." Very disappointed and surprise that they are still in business.

    Not worth the hassle. We've been an ADT customer for over 7 years and during the course of our time with the company at our previous residence we've never experienced the kind of service or lack thereof since recently. It began when we moved to another home. The agent who processed the transfer did her song and dance about receiving the following for free: 2 key fobs, 1 carbon monoxide detector, motion sensor and a $100 free gift card, all for $99 + the first month so a total of $139! Great! We set up new service for not only $139 but $539 and no gift card! Not only did the tech spend 3 of the 6 hours in the closet sleeping he installed a system we were never told about nor did we want (which cost more) he incorrectly installed the garage sensor therefore, any small gust of wind would set the alarm off! He also never installed 5 of the window sensors and kept one of the key fobs.

    During this entire ordeal my family and I became more and more disgusted with the service. 4 technicians came out to the property at 4 different times. Still, the problem was not fixed. The alarm would go off 3, 4 o'clock in the morning. Did ADT call us? Haha. No! It took us over 45 seconds to disarm the thing and I called to find out the reason why no one did. The agent on the other end had an attitude and her response was, "Yea, we did get a signal coming from your garage uh, huh." When asked why they never called us. She didn't request the passcode to the account just went off saying, "If the alarm sounds for more than 2 minutes, then we will attempt to call the numbers you have listed before we sent the authorities to your residence." You've got to be joking!

    After that hogwash excuse we gave it one more chance. They sent out another tech to fix the sensor in the garage. Same issue. So by this time we were through. No more excuses, no more paying money for a service we're not getting. Then on 12/15 I called to cancel. The agent routed me to the loyalty dept. and I was reassured the services would be canceled or turned off effective 1/14/2017. We received a return item box for, get this, the WiFi box the 2nd technician took with him when he switched systems. 1/1/2017 our keypads display window has an FC code. 1/30/2017 ADT withdrew $83.57 from my account! When I called them they told me my services were never canceled. Why then did I receive a return label, box, instruction page on what to return and bubble wrap?

    I called customer service. The first agent told me I was set up on auto draft. She then routed me to billing. That agent answered the phone with food in her mouth, placed me on a 7 minute hold while she finished her meal then told me cancellations would have to help me. I kid you not. Every conversation I've had with this company I record because they lie. All they do is apologize and do nothing to rectify the problem. The very last agent I spoke to asked me if I was told that if I canceled service I would then be hit with a bill for almost $1,000. I told him I was NEVER told that. He said my situation is a mess and he cannot believe what we've been put through. That too is on tape. They still have my money, my service has not been canceled and they refuse to remedy this problem in an attempt to at least try to convince us that they are customer service driven.

    We have had the ADT home security system for about a year now and it has not performed very well. The smoke/heat detectors have gone off repeatedly many times and have had the fire department at the house since they have went off when no one was home. They have been replaced more than once and relocated as well since the first technician that installed them placed them almost directly over the heater in the kitchen. The police have showed up when the system malfunctioned with no warning to us.

    When we had a real medical emergency and hit the medical panic button we received a call from ADT and I said "yes my dad needs an ambulance." So after about ten minutes they called back to ask what county I was in because they were not sure who to send. We live in the country but have 2 different towns with emergency services within 6 miles. So I told them and they said Waynesfield was closer but was out on a call and would it be ok for them to send the squad from Roundhead. I said yes and went out to wait to direct them because my dad was in medical distress and I was worried.

    While I was out there I got a call from the sheriff asking that I verify which county I lived in and which squad to send. After 40 minutes an ambulance finally arrived. Their (ADT's) false alert response time averaged ten minutes or less and for a real emergency it was 40 minutes, next time I will just dial 911. Thankfully it was not a heart attack as on a previous call or my father would have died because of the incompetence of ADT.

    I replied to an offer that was in the newspaper, gave them a call and they sent an agent out when I first moved in to my home. The customer service representatives are spot on. They stayed with me until they're sure that I had all my questions answered. As a matter of fact, they'll ask me a few questions to be sure that I understand their answers, which sometimes, I didn't, so that really helped. Their website monitors my system and if I don't do a test that will run through their system once a month then they send me an email. They keep reminding me until I do it. And I'm actually pretty delinquent right now, because I haven't had a chance to do it. They also do an automatic payment from my Visa which gives me a little bit of a reduction on my monthly service amount. It's always right and they send me a link to the statement so that I can verify that it went to the right place. I've never had trouble with ADT.

    We were notified that the alarm went off when we were away. We were sure that everything was secured and set properly and had left just a short time before the alarm went off. We scheduled an ADT visit to check out the system. It was found that two of the three door sensors were faulty.     I have been with ADT for 9 years. I even moved and brought my ADT service with me. I recently purchased a new home, and the home builder has pre-wired my home with another security system. Once I told ADT of this concern, their response was either to continue to pay my ADT charges until the end of my contract along with the security plan that I have in my new or to pay an unbelievable early termination fee. I will never associate or refer anyone I know to ADT. In my opinion, they lack the ethical business customer service model of a successful company.

    I am disappointed in the ADT customer service. My mother is a senior who pays for ADT services. She has a key fob as part of her home security system. I recently discovered that the key ring part of the fob is broken. She says it broke several weeks ago. Now she has trouble keeping track of the device as it is not on her keychain. She says when she called for a replacement she was told they only replace if the device is completely broken. When I called ADT on her behalf I was told the same thing. When I asked to speak to a manager the rep said she could only transfer me to sales where I could buy a replacement, which is not what I asked nor wanted.

    The construction of the device is not the best and I can see how easy it would be for the key ring part to break off. When I compared the ADT fob to my vehicle fob, I see a big difference in the quality. I am disappointed that considering the money my mother pays monthly for services, ADT would not replace her device at no charge. I am considering encouraging her to seek other service providers that take better care of their customers, especially their seniors.

    We moved into home and ADT installed after 8 years in last home. We noticed 4 months in that our keypad doesn't light up like other people's. When calling you was told I was outside 90 day warranty and had to pay. When I asked why it wasn't set up to work correctly they said I had 90 days to change. I was offered $100 off service call but would still have to pay. I feel this is done on purpose to generate service call and was not denied such from operator. Disappointing I now have to pay and take half a day from work/family to have something correctly installed that wasn't the first time done so. Will definitely consider another company since ADT doesn't care to fix a mistake they made.

    I looked at various security systems after our home was rebuilt after a fire. I had known of ADT from other people in the neighborhood, and they were by far, the larger group and reasonable priced among other competitors. So, I went with them, and I'm very satisfied with the service, both the communication when an alarm system goes off and most importantly, what the alarm sensor is -- whether it's a motion detector, a door, a window or a battery that needs to be replaced. It seems those things tend to happen at a much higher percentage when I am out of town than when I'm in town, which is the only time I alarm the house. So, I don't know whether that's what's triggering the increase in sensitivity or not.

    The sales reps were very good and helpful. They explained what I needed to do in order to monitor and continue to work with the system. I needed to know what's going on, and be able to troubleshoot in some cases. For example, a low battery signal will tell me where the sensor is but not necessarily which one if I have several sensors in that same area. There were also a couple of times when the installation team had to route wires through closets. But they did a very good job in making small drill holes when they needed to and not making them visually apparent.

    I am also aware that they have contacted the police when they haven't been able to get in touch with me or I haven't been able to return the call in a timely manner since I followed up with the police on their visit to the house after I returned. And I appreciate that. It really gives me the protection and peace of mind when I leave home for a weekend or an extended period. I am satisfied with it and I would certainly recommend ADT.

    I took off of work to have security cameras installed only to find out that they would not record 24 hours a day so I was told to call ATT to schedule someone to come to my house to give me a quote. I called the very same day and was told that somebody from the local office by my house would be giving me a call to schedule an appointment either that day or the following Monday. I never got a call on either day so I called back and was placed on a 15 minute hold then got disconnected and never received a call back so I waited another 20 minutes and called ATT again. Was also placed on the whole. There seem to be some confusion as to whether or not they could give me a quote over the phone or if they had to send someone out again. Was placed on hold for 15 minutes. Phone got disconnected. Never got a call back.

    I then called the following day and ask for a manager who kindly told me that they would get it fixed and that somebody would call me. He even said that he put extensive notes in the system... AGAIN NO ONE HAS CALLED ME TO SCHEDULE APPOINTMENT. So now I am debating on switching my alarm system to someone who can better serve and who actually cares about me as a customer. I would expect more from an alarm security company. Very disappointed!

    They refuse to give service you pay for. ADT installed our monitoring service which has to have 13 hardwired smoke, heat and CO detectors 9 years ago and we have had no less that 40 false alarms - sometimes the fire dept has had to respond. ADT is supposed to fix the problem but only gives lip service. We have tried to stop paying for the service and terminate it but they turn us over to a collection agency so we are now going to the state attorney general to sue them.

    Last evening when we were asleep, the system malfunctioned again at 1 AM. We called ADT and the Dolt only said, "Duh, is your system going off?" Dolt did not know how to turn the alarms off. Took us 45 minutes of unplugging stuff to turn it off ourselves. At 9 AM, 8 hours after the malfunction, we got a recorded message from ADT telling us to call 911 if we see fire, smell smoke or gas. This is the only type of monitoring you get when you pay their large service fees. Do not ever do business with ADT.

    I had Monitronics for years and spent around $39 a month. I got a flyer in my mailbox that said with ADT, I could get two remotes and a bit more than what I was paying for. It was really something I was interested in because I was going to get more. I had the alarm on the house, but didn't have the Stay alarm, the fire, and the police protection that I have now with ADT, so we stopped Monitronics and put ADT, which we're very happy with. The reps are all very polite. They'd call up and ask if everything is okay, tell me which alarm is going off, and then ask if I need any further assistance. I wish it was not as high in price, but I can't complain about it.

    ADT is the most fabulous thing in the whole world, and I love it. If I accidentally open the door and the alarm goes off, they call me right away just to see if I'm okay. One day, we had a pan on the stove and I was talking to my husband not paying attention to it. The next thing I knew the fire alarm went off. Two seconds later, they were on the phone. Four seconds later, it seemed like the fire department was at the front door, and I was really shocked to see the fire chief come to the house, which I thought was super because if there had been a fire, I wouldn't want to have waited 20 minutes for the fire trucks to arrive. They respond immediately.

    I also have the outside alarm and it probably went off and I didn't realize it. Three of my neighbors were over as well, asking if we were okay because they heard the alarm going off. That was a good thing too, knowing that somebody was alerted that there was somebody in this house that wasn't doing what they were supposed to do.

    But I think the best feature is the hostage feature, as people in this area have been bound up, beaten, and robbed in the middle of the afternoon. If someone forces themselves into my house and I can get to the hostage alarm, it sends a silent alarm to the police department to inform them that some activity is going on that should not be. Now I come into my house, put on the "Stay" button, and with all the robberies and home invasions in our area, I feel very safe. I tried to tell everybody ADT is the best way to go because I get the police right at my door when anything goes wrong.

    We moved into this house about two years ago and we saw ADT was advertised. We also asked around before going with them. When we called, two men came in and told us about the different programs. When we agreed to everything, the rep called up his office to see if there was a man who could come and install it and there was someone who was available that afternoon so he came in that time.

    The people who had this house previous to us also had ADT and they had the keypad installed where they wanted it. Now I wanted it by the front door, but the guy said that it's only a 20-second walk to where they had installed it. Well my husband has a problem walking at the time as I did. And he said that we'll be able to get to the pad on time. We can get there on time but my husband can't get in at all in that short amount of time.

    So I called ADT and asked someone about moving it because of our handicap as far as not being able to walk quickly enough. She said that they can do it, but it's an extra charge. I said, "Maybe I'll have to go to another company." And she said that my contract is 'till November of this year and it would be a $300 something cancellation fee. I explained to her that even if you clean your feet on the outside then walk in, you don't wanna walk on a clean floor with wet boots to get to the keypad on time. That's why I wanted to have it changed. She said sorry but it's $115 plus overtime if the installer has to be there longer than an hour.

    That's ridiculous. So, I'm really stuck between a rock and a hard place. I was gonna ask for a supervisor but I felt that we have the contract 'till November. So, I figured, when it comes to maybe September, I'll call them back again and if they still refuse to do it as a courtesy, then I'll have to change companies. As for the way the system works, that's fine. I put the alarm on every time we go out and we're satisfied with it. I'd recommend them to a friend as long as they make sure that they get the keypad where they want it.

    It is somewhat aggravating to change our password every 30 days. Wish it could be maybe every 60 to 90 days.     We have had ADT for about 2 years, and have been trying to terminate the contract on account of breach of contract. A 3rd party ADT representative visited the house and offered 'free' installation with a 3 year contract. The 3rd party installed the system that week. During the installation, they rarely returned calls after we had issues with the sound detectors. We had to call ADT corporate to get the 3rd party to respond. The 3rd party also failed to inform us that our 1959 Florida house with roll-out windows, 3 panel sliding glass doors, weren't conducive to the proper window protection ADT is contractually obligated to. In addition to failing sensors, failing sound detector (we have dogs and concrete floors), and overall system that is still 'off' on account of ADT technicians failing to keep their promised times, we have never been delivered the Medical Alert device we were promised via contract.

    Several ADT technicians have been to the house, replaced sensors, and have cited internal screens as some of the sensor problems. All referenced that our house shouldn't have had the system installed. All seems like proper grounds to politely remove us from contract, however after dozens of phone calls, and a 3 month hiatus of have to pay the monthly fee, a still disabled system, they still won't delete the contract. So buyer beware for 3rd party installers and beware of ADT stiff arming you for any reason to be end the contract. We currently have opened another BBB case open against them, and we are working on a small class law suite, and trying to invoke the Florida Lemon Law. Attorney advised last ditch is to keep paying and recoup lost monies once contract is done. But before that, we are desperately trying to cancel the contract.

    A young lady from ADT came to the door and it sounded like a good deal since I live alone so I've had them ever since. The sales rep was a lovely young woman and a typical door-to-door salesperson. The installation was free, which was a big factor, and I had other friends who had ADT so I figured I'd try it. The system goes to the police and fire departments and I'm 99.9% satisfied with their service. I've been approached by other companies that charge considerably less and I preferred to stay with someone I'm comfortable with.

    I've had a couple of times where the alarm has gone off accidentally and they've called me immediately. Then one time, my contractor was looking for a manual and he thought it might be in the house so he came in. The alarm went off, he didn't know the code and sure enough, the police came out and really interrogated him. Also, when my neighbor was gone, their cat was running around a balloon that caught the motion detector and their alarm went off. Since I'm the first one that ADT calls if they can't get a hold of my neighbor, they rousted me up in the middle of the night and I had to go over there to see what it was. But I've been very happy with them.

    However, every five or six years, the main battery for the system goes out and it might take four days for them to send somebody out here to replace the battery. But I'm aware of that and despite that, the system will still work. It's just that it will keep beeping to tell me that the battery is low and the two times that that happened, I called the office and they told me how to go in and program the thing to stop doing it. Overall, I've had a great experience with ADT so far and I highly recommend them because they've been really good and the stuff worked.     I moved into my newly built home, in 2015. I had a ADT Security Specialist show up at my new home, to sale me Home security system and services. I was told by the ADT Security Home specialist, that the contract was for 1 year at a time, and it would cost about $54.00 monthly to service my home for security services. Well be very careful of ADT Security representatives selling you ADT series. They will falsely lie to you to buy their services, and once they have you sign the contract, it is. It what was initially told by the representatives selling you the services.

    The corporate headquarters knows this is going on, and has no desire to control it or remedy the situation. So my advice to you, is not use a security company that will use false advertisement just to get customers locked in. I later tried to discontinue my service with ADT after the initial year was up, and they told me I could not, because I was in a 3 year contract. So initially I was lied to by the sales representative, and the company knows this is going on.

    I am a long term customer of ADT. My home was broken into, while the alarm was activated. ADT called when the alarm went off and I told them call the police. The police came and the butler answered the door. The police never questioned the butler because he said the alarm wasn't going off. Nevertheless, I came home 7 hours later to find my door unlocked and my alarm still activated. Somehow ADT blame me for incorrectly arming my system. At this point I had the system for 10 years. They fought tooth and nail trying to blame for the break even though I disarmed the system in front of the police now 9 hours later. They refuse to pay the $500.

    I wrote to say, I'm moving into a new home and I'm researching all security companies. ADT sales guy swore me up and down that someone would reimbursement in case of a actual break in and the alarm failed. I'm living proof that I did and they didn't pay anything.     My neighbor across the street was selling ADT so we knew about ADT. I called in for questions about the system and the reps were real informative and gave me answers I needed to know, but it was my wife who managed the purchase herself over the phone. We had full description including the advantages of the system upon signing up and it helped that we had somebody we know telling us about the system. So, we got a good basic package that we're satisfied with.

    When the installation team came in, I had to leave then come back but the only problem I had was the little wiring in the attic that they laid out a little litter and cleaner. So when they came back for some little service item, I mentioned it to the tech and they took care of it right there that day. It was very much courtesy so I appreciated that. Generally, it was good installation and I didn't notice that stuff until I went up in the attic and saw it. Most folks probably didn't care about it but it's something I looked at because I didn't wanna snag a wire and not know it. They're honest and friendly at ADT and we're happy with our experience with them.

    We have had ADT for 27 years. I received a keypad in February 2016. The #1 button on the keypad is not working properly and I called to schedule someone to come check it. I was told that they wanted to charge me $90.00 because I do not have a "maintenance agreement." First of all - I was NEVER offered a maintenance agreement EVER from ADT. Second of all - I have been with ADT for 27 years (my first system installed in 1990). Third of all - now your supervisor representative tells me that my keypad is only covered for 90 days?! Your supervisor representative did waive the $90.00 fee (for someone to come to my house), but in her quest to do this she portrayed herself over the phone to be a hero.

    I have a problem with someone treating me like they are doing me a huge favor when I have been with ADT and paying ADT for 27 years. I am very tired and upset every single time I call ADT that I am always nickeled and dimed to death for charge for this and a charge for that. What about a loyalty towards me for being so loyal to ADT? I did accept the maintenance agreement which I am now having to pay $7.00/month for - but I most certainly will be looking towards leaving ADT after 27 years and finding a security company that will appreciate my loyalty.     Your older customers like my husband and I could likely benefit more from some help in learning how to use the website and Pulse on the phone. Some of us are not as computer savvy as your younger customers. When our system was installed the guys were very nice but they went over the website rather fast. I can understand they were ready to leave after all the installation. I tried to call their supervisor at a later date. Even though he left his card, I receive no answer or call back. It was as if once we had paid for the installation we were on our own with the website. I think it is a lot to get use to in a brief one quick visit. A follow up visit would be very helpful.

    We just bought our first house. It should have been a very positive experience but because of ADT, this is becoming a nightmare. My biggest mistake was to google ADT number online. I ended up with a third party provider, Defender Security (without knowing). I got an initial quote for monthly service without a landline. I decided it was too much and said no thanks. Then, they transferred me to the sale department. I mentioned we were customer of USAA and I heard about a discount. So they gave me the "USAA" discount, which now, I know, they can't give because they are not ADT. SO I was told a certain price, which was reasonable for us, so we went ahead with it.

    It was discussed this was for a 3 years contract. BUT, it was never mentioned that: - The price given was only for 12 months, then would go back to $9 more per month for year 2 and 3 (LIE #1). - The difference of $9 would be sent to me upfront, as a check (?!? - Isn't it weird?) (OMISSION #1). They said I would get all this info by email (LIE #2, never received any email!). Then, when transfer back to the initial agent, I asked about Pulse and he said, "Yes, possible, only $4 more a month, talk to the installer (LIE #3 - see below)."

    The installer came, spent 5 hours in my house installing everything and hand me a contract showing a monthly price $13 more than we initially agreed. I refused to sign, she then said she would have to remove everything she just installed in the last 5 hours. I suggest we call ADT (still not knowing I am not dealing with ADT), and she suggests we call her supervisor. The supervisor initially tells me that there is no such thing as the amount I was initially told, he never saw that, etc. Then, after 5 minutes of research, comes back to me and said: "Oh I see it now, we will send you a check for the different between the promised amount and the current amount on the contract."

    Then I ask, "Ok please confirm the reimbursement will cover 3 years and not just 1 year." He said yes (LIE #4 - See below, everyone is telling me now that this was only for 1 year). Then, hanging up, the installer said that anyways, I would have couple weeks of trying the system and decide if I wanted to keep it so that would let me some time to figure out the billing (LIE #5 - it's only 3 days!). I signed the contract - biggest mistake in this whole story, I should have told her to go back with all her stuff and called it a day with ADT!

    Now, I contacted 4 people at Defender. One hang up on me when I told her I wanted to wait to speak with a manager. She told me she couldn't have me waiting, she had to take other calls - This never ever happened to me in my whole life of dealing with customer service. Then, I called back and spoke to a much nicer person who told me that a manager was reviewing my file, would listen to the initial sale call to see what was said, and get back to me in 2-3 business days (LIE #6). 11 business days later, still no answer. I called again and was told that they should have never told me that, they should have transferred me to the Account Services. Then, waited, spoke to Account Services, who said they would review the call and complaint within 2-3 business days.

    HOWEVER she already said that IF the sales person never mentioned 3 years promotion during the call, I would NOT get the price over 3 years. That means If the original sales lady said: this promotion is only for one year, then you will get to the original price after = I don't get a check for more than one year. I am fine with that, but they never said that. If the original sales lady said: I have this great price for you, $**. With a 3 years contract = I don't get a check for more than one year - THIS IS WHAT IS COMPLETELY CRAZY TO ME!!! How am I suppose to know that what she is telling me only applies to one year out of 3?

    I already contacted ADT (the real company this time) to make a complaint. A very nice agent, Edward, took notes on my situation and submitted it to Corporate ADT. They are supposed to contact Defender and Defender will have to get back to me within couple days. But regardless of all this, how many times a company can LIE to get your business??

    Now, I just wish I could get out of this and go directly with ADT. However, to do so, I have to pay the full price for 3 years to get out of the contract. Not happening. Other than that, actual protection service (provided by ADT) is great. Everyone I spoke to at ADT were extremely nice, making it almost worst to realize I haven't got the right number to begin with. :(

    I recently sold my house so I called to cancel my service. I still had over a year left on my contract but I sold my house; can't help that. I was told I had to buy out my contract in order to cancel. They don't care why you have to cancel, they just want your money. I can see having to pay if you want to cancel your service because you just don't want it anymore, but I sold the house. IT IS NO LONGER MINE!! You need to change your policies in order to accommodate people who sell their house.

    It is absolutely ridiculous that you make them pay 75% of the remaining months just to cancel. I would gladly submit paperwork showing that I sold the house to prove that that is the reason I am canceling. People shouldn't be punished because they had to sell their house. I was told I could transfer my service to my new address, which I am renting, by signing a new 3-year contract and paying double what my current bill is. Moronic. This company is just a money maker. That's all they care about. Look for a system that doesn't have the ridiculous cancellation rules. You never know what life might bring, and they will make you pay no matter what it is.

    I have had an ADT alarm for 3 years and recently we experienced a false alarm from a defective glass breakage sensor. ADT came out to repair it at no cost but the police charged us $75 for the false alarm because they came out to investigate. No one was in the house when the alarm went off and no glass was broken. We tried to get ADT to have the charge reversed or pay for it themselves, but I was just advised that they won't do that. So, after 3 years, I am looking for another monitoring station. I am paying $456 (Cdn) a year to them and they have lost my business over $75! I even told them they were going to lose my business and they didn't care.

    Window sensors are too sensitive. Birds and thunderstorms set them off. Independent contractor installed them but ADT said they have better ones now. They should have been installed. I'd have to pay for an upgrade. That would be too much additional.

    You should implement a system where you should forward calls to the fire dept. due to a smoke alarm only if the customer warrants it. Three times so far the fire engines have come to my house due to the smoke alarm going off due to some burning toast or something minor like that. Or at least, you should have the ability to cancel fire dept service upon verifying from the affected customer that there is no need.

While we may always update them after, it is their discretion whether or not they will cancel the alarm. As a countermeasure, whenever you intend to cook or fear setting off the smoke detectors, you may call us or login to your MyADT.com account to place the system in a state of "test" or disregard.
