    Batteries of two ADT remote garage door openers required replacement due to continuous indication. The contractor who installed the system was called who asked to contact ADT. ADT customer service representative set-up the appointment by a technician the next day. It was my understanding that no service fee will be charged for the visit as in an earlier main control panel battery replacement. The representative also did not mention of any fee at the time of setting-up the appointment. The work by the technician was satisfactory. It was not until I received the bill that a service fee of $25 was charged in addition to monthly bill. An email was sent waiver of this amount but was denied. This experience was not to my satisfaction.

    I never received my $100 gift card that they promoted. I called got the runaround and still never received my free $100 gift card. Then they withdrew a payment a month earlier than they were supposed to which disrupted my monthly bills. Still wait for my refund which I never received after calling and speaking with three different people on three different occasion...     I've had ADT for 47 years. We have all the features they have on the doors and windows. The reps who work there were all fantastic, always courteous and helpful. The installation team was also good. There was one who wasn’t from ADT, and they had a service where he screwed it up. But when the ADT serviceman came, he straightened things out right away and did a good job. Everything I had with ADT itself was exemplary. They did everything they’re supposed to and they went out of their way to make sure everything goes well. When I had a little problem, they came over quickly and fixed it. I'm completely satisfied.

    Gotten a call from Protect Your Home, informing me they received several alarm warnings from my back door to my dining room and living room windows. I told the representative everything was fine and no warnings from the keypad and the system was disarmed. They were prompt and checking my status to make sure there were no force entries into my home. After checking my call was forward to technical support to see if there was any problems of my system and the representative walked me thru the steps to check my system and the door and windows sensor. They were very courteous and helpful.

    Easy, peasy. During initial conversations regarding home security, with different agencies & equipment, I found that the combination of Protect Your Home and ADT had the best combination of services. Ease of understanding initial questions leading to the home site visit and concluded with instructions and completion was exactly what I expected, and received. The installer (initials J.C.) was extremely professional even when we were interrupted by an overseas phone call. All questions were answered, again professionally without hidden agendas.

    I called ADT and they set up somebody to come out, survey the territory and give me a bid. All the people I've dealt with have been excellent. The salesperson was very thorough, courteous and nice. He asked all the right questions and was very extensive. He tried to find ways around it and gave me different options to make the thing work. It was not a hustle type thing. I had an existing built-in system. So, expensive wiring wouldn't be necessary.

    The only glitch while they were there was not their fault, it was corporate policy that bothers me. To sign up, they wanted a credit check, which I have no problems with at all. Suffice it to say my credit is about as high as it can get. The first thing they wanted was my Social Security Number, which I will not give to anybody. We went back and forth on that. I'm not happy with that policy because I had to pay a full year ahead rather than on a monthly basis in order to avoid giving them my Social Security Number. I gave them an 11-month loan, in essence, of 12 months’ worth of service payments. You don't need a Social Security Number to do a credit check. So, that ticked me off then and now. It wound up costing me but we went ahead.

    One other thing which is major is hindsight on the part of the salesman. The initial quote was $650. After he left, the person who came to install recommended and explained, "You're going to need this, this and this." I wound up paying at least 50% more. It was $1,050 instead of $650. I recognize that because some of the wires were broken and they didn't know that 'til they got into the system. But the salesman should have recognized at least half those things and written it in the initial specs.

    The installer was very good, competent, cooperative and efficient. It wasn’t easy. The cellular signals here aren't great and I have a cable phone so they had to do cell communication to ADT. We had a lot of moving around to do to get things to work right. My complaints with the installer were two things. One, it took a long time to install, which is fine. But because it took a little longer than he thought, we didn't have a lot of time at the end of the day to show me how to work the system. He did, he sat down. But to me, this just wasn't enough of education time on how to work the things. So, I had to call a couple of times.

    He also left wire clippings and other trash right there on the floor, under those three control boxes. It was the same thing in the basement, at the main control box that they swapped. It seemed to me that a company as careful as ADT would have the site cleaned up by the installer. And it could have been because he just ran out of time. But that's bad practice.

    After a week, my whole system went offline. And it was offline for a week because I had faint cell signal. It completely lost the signal. It turned out the installer should have put it in the rafters in the basement. It was an ADT box and the signal is even worse. They also had a Verizon box shipped to my house. The guy came to put the Verizon box in and he was outstanding. He tested moving up into a closet to get it on the main floor instead of the basement. And there was marginal but enough signal with the old AT&T cellular box. So he left that one and didn't install the Verizon and that saved them some money but said, "I'll keep it in the truck. If there's any problems, let me know. We'll come back and put the Verizon in."

    And subsequent to that, the system is still connected but the lights in that box are showing a little worse than when he left. I wish they put that Verizon box in. To this day, I still haven’t got complete signal. They called me to say it showed that it wasn't connected the first time. Signal had gone away.

    I've called on a couple of occasions their help desk. The people in the general number that you call for any assistance were outstanding people and they're available. I had a cable issue last Sunday. Somebody was there on the other side, they took the call and they did everything they can to get the problem solved. And that's been impressive. They’re knowledgeable and knew the answers. The cable call I made last night, I came up with the solution, as it turned out. I had a couple of thoughts, called them back and said, "Couldn't it be this because of this?" And they said, "Well, we could try that." We did and it worked. I'm no genius on cable but I solved the problem. I cancelled the service call. It would have been for nothing. I don't take for granted that the person on the other end of the phone and the ADT people, so far, were that good.

    I was interested in upgrading my alarm system. With all the cool new tech out why not. I have been an ADT alarm system customer for a while. At my prior house and now at my current house. My contract was expired so I went online to see what was offered. It looks like they have a system that doesn't need a phone line (finally I can cancel my phone line) and a system that works with your garage door opener from your smartphone (cool). So I call them up and they say they are going to send a sales person (great). I remember 10 years back at my 1st house when the first representative came by. He showed me brochures, did a walk of the house, talked about the system and talked about the protection. After he left I looked forward to the install date and felt good about my decision.

    A month back a guy showed up in jogging pants and smelled as though he hadn't showered in a month. He had an iPad with him and I thought that was kind of cool (I thought he would show me some options on it). I asked him if he wanted to look around to see the current system, he said he didn't and just stood in the kitchen. I offered him a seat at the table (thinking he might want to sit down and show me some options) he declined and stood there and asked me what I wanted. I said I want to upgrade my system and have wifi access and have garage door access with my phone. We talked for a bit, discussed pricing. He finally pulled his iPad out, got me to sign and was on his way. I was thinking in my head "what's the rush" but felt like ADT is a big company and the install will probably go okay.

    He texted me later and let me know when the install date was. Then later cancelled the install date. I tried to contact him a few times to reschedule but could not get through. Finally he got back to me via text and said he was on vacation but had an install date scheduled. Ok. Finally. House is under renovation and a contractor is on site, I think this is okay for the installation but get a call the day off and I am told an "owner needs to be on site". Okay. My wife heads back to the house. The installation guy is in a huff with her because he is not happy with waiting. My wife apologizes and says she is sorry that we were not aware an owner had to be on site and thought the contractor would suffice.

    Installer installs the system quickly, gives my wife some papers and leaves. Renovation gets complete, we finally have time to look at alarm system. There is no garage door component to it, it is not wireless, we don't even know the code to the system? Apparently there is an app we can use but we don't know how to get onto that. Basically we have the same system we had before, but we have the pleasure of paying $30 more per month and a $500 installation bill arrives. I text the sales guy and ask him for his supervisor's name and phone number. He refuses and tells me I never told him I wanted wireless access and garage door access. He then tells me someone will call me. I believe he could of used that iPad of his to take some notes, rather than just come in, quick sell me and get my signature.

    Look I get it. I have been in sales my entire life. But I was a willing customer who was okay with spending money. All that had to take place was a little care on the initial sales guys part. Now I am stuck with a system that does the same as my old system. I get to pay 55 a month (opposed to the 25 I was paying before) and I get a $500 fee. I am interested if ADT will try to resolve this issue.

We weren't living here in the winter and it was really cold. The thermostat battery wasn't working, apparently, and the pipes froze.     My experience with ADT has been the worst I've ever had with a business. When our system was installed over a year ago, the installer said it might not work too well because our wifi isn't very strong. He didn't try to sell us another camera because he said it wouldn't work, due to wifi. But he installed our system anyway with just one camera. About 3 months later, we had them come back because our system wasn't working properly. A friend parked in our driveway claimed a rifle was stolen from his truck, parked directly in front of the camera. But we couldn't find a pic of it because our system wasn't working. This caused a huge problem!

    The installer came back and installed a wifi booster, hoping that would help. But no! He came back again in January 2017 and said the system would not work because of our weak wifi and said he'd write it in his report and said we could use it to get out of the contract. We called ADT, and after days or being transferred all around the world, a supervisor said we could get out of our contract in January 2017. So they came back and got all of the equipment in March. I noticed we were still getting debited in March, so I changed my debit card. On May 6, 2017, I got a call from ADT asking me if I wanted to catch up on my last due bill, over $100. I said no! I think ADT owes us a rebate, We paid over a year for something that never worked! I want this fixed NOW!

    ADT is awesome. We've had them for over 30 years. We first heard about them when we lived in Florida, even before they were ADT. Two people that rented our apartment or condo asked if they could put in a security system. We asked them to leave it there after and we had it put in our next place and the next. We've just had ADT every time since. When we talk to their sales reps, they've been very helpful. We were the ones who contacted them first every time we move. They would ask what we were interested in and we'd say exactly what we wanted.

    The features were pretty much the same but the monitoring, fire, emergency, phone calls when something happened, and maintenance. So we have the whole package. Their installation team was perfect. They did their thing, trained me and cleaned up after themselves. They even left phone numbers. So I never have to worry about them. My husband and I were 100% satisfied with their service. ADT has served us well. All in all, our experience has been fantastic. They are the best ever. We didn't even look anywhere else each time we moved like in Florida, New Hampshire, New York, and Idaho. We've recommended ADT highly to many.

    We were Brink's customers before. We got switched to ADT when they bought Brink's and we've been very, very happy with ADT. One time, we had a failure in our box and someone came out and everything got fixed.     ADT has been my only home security service provider. Overall, the security system is good in functionality and performance, and I've felt okay and had a good sense of security since I used it. The security equipment has a fine quality, and the system's features suit my needs at the moment. I once needed to reset my panel information and replace the back-up battery, and their customer service representatives were very helpful. I also had to have a technician come out to service my system once a few years ago, and that interaction went fine as well. I would recommend ADT as the first choice in home security.

    The guys that came to our house to talk/install were great. They played by the book, but also listened to what I had to say. They told me that the first thing they do is install the keypad on a wall. I asked that we discuss things before they start installing. They had to call it in as a deviation from protocol, but did so at my request. The people on the phone were pretty pushy and did their best (successfully in this case) to keep me on the phone until a time was set up and my credit was checked. Not too wild about that, but I get it since there's a fear of losing the customer.

    SUPER unhappy. This company does NOT follow up with their clients or know what they are doing. Their installer punched holes in the walls of my new house, then never got the alarm installed properly. So I have holes in my walls in my new house. I had to chase them down after a week of phone tag to come and install it properly. I still have holes in my walls. No one is following up on getting this repaired, even after I complained about it to corporate and the local office. So I'm just going to have to fix it myself at this point. DEFINITELY, go with another company. To add insult to injury, the alarm went off the other night and no one in the house heard it. Amazing! It wasn't until they called our phone that we woke up.

    Now I'm supposed to pay another $100 for an upstairs alarm as well? Why didn't the installer mention this might be an issue? ADT doesn't give a ** about you or your house. If they did, they would have knowledgeable staff that can recommend and advise you on the best way to outfit a home. They messed up my walls, they installed an alarm no one can hear, they never followed up on the damage they did and they need more money so I can actually hear the alarm when it goes off. The second worst company I've ever dealt with after Empire carpets.

    I paid ADT every month for almost 20 years before being wiped out in a burglary. When I called to find out why they hadn't sent the police they didn't even know we had been broken into. Then they acted like it was my fault for not having a cellular backup! Why had they not reached out to tell me one was available and recommended!! I'm shocked at the number of positive reviews. Most sites have them at 1-2 stars. I would give them negative stars if I could. By all means use ADT if you only want the ILLUSION of security instead of ACTUAL security. I'm now working with a local firm that is responsive, proactive and ACCOUNTABLE

    I am very disappointed with my ADT experience. I purchased services a little under a year ago for a property that I was renting. I purchased $1000 in product and have always paid my bill on time. A couple of weeks ago I found out that our landlord was going to be selling the property once our lease was up at the end of the month. My husband and I had to make temporary living arrangements until we are able to purchase a home towards the end of the year.

    I explained this to ADT/Defenders to see if something could be done to put our account on hold since we want to continue service once we have a new home because we will be unable to use it where we will be living in the meantime. They very bluntly said no and that we would either have to keep paying the fee of $60/month for services we can't even use or pay the early cancellation fee of 75% which came to over $1000! There is no way we can pay that. And I'm not sure why they are even saying 75% considering 2/3 of the remaining contract would be 66%.

Again she said no - no further explanation, just "no". Finally I said that I WANT TO SPEAK TO A MANAGER. To which she said, "I can have one call you within 3 business days." How I'm supposed to know that they'll actually call, I have no idea. But I am incredibly pissed that a company would provide such poor customer service with no flexibility whatsoever. They just want your money, plain and simple. Sure, the service is fine as long as you're giving them money, but the moment you need to walk away they turn on you. I'm also pretty sure that I read on another forum that when we do find a place and move, the 3-year contract STARTS OVER!! I would not recommend them at all. Total scam.

    I've been with ADT for close to 30 years and it’s been effective and efficient. I kept them for that long because if the mouse trap works, you keep using it. But there was a time when I was thinking about changing because they were switching over to a WiFi-based system and I still had the old wired system. They had never sent me any information saying that I could upgrade. Then when I called them up and started telling them that I was thinking about moving, all of a sudden I was able to get the new upgrade. They had never told me I was eligible for it.

    But everything worked out fine. I got it and everything’s okay. The guy who came out to put in the WiFi to be a wireless system knew what he was doing. He put in the equipment and tested it all the way it was supposed to be tested. But I would like it best if they offered a camera with it instead of making it an option where people had to buy it. Having some type of camera that can see out front would be great. But so far everything’s okay and the security is great.

    I have been with ADT for two years now and have been a great paying customer. I recently moved from a rent house into a new construction home. The new home came equipped with the Honeywell tuxedo touch keypad, camera on the front door, z wave thermostat, z wave light switches, and an integrated automatic dead bolt in the front door. I called ADT and told them to relocate my service from the rent house to my new house. They set up a date for a tech to come out. I took off work to meet with a tech and he begins to tell me that the smart home technology is not compatible with ADT's out of date service. He proceeds to tell me that the only way ADT can service my house is if he pulls out all of my smart home equipment and installs ADT's proprietary equipment. I told him that if ADT cannot take over my smart home equipment that I payed a lot of money for then ADT and I cannot do business.

    I call loyalty and they tell me that there has been a mistake and that they want to send out a sales representative in order to review my smart home equipment one more time. I agree to take off work to meet with a sales representative. When she shows up she tells me that the tech was right and they can not take over my smart home devices. The solution is to either remove my smart home devices or bypass them completely which in return would make me waste all of my money that I spent on my smart home technology which isn't going to work. In the meantime I received a bill for the cancellation at the rent house for the remainder of the contract.

    I am not paying this bill, ADT needs to let me out of the termination fees because I gave them two opportunities to relocate my service and their service is out of date. I am not removing anything from my brand new house just for them to give me an out of date system. I am prepared to fight this in court. Or whatever it takes. They can pick the easy way or the hard way. That simple.

    I had ADT and I love them. They're always there to answer your call. If they needed to come do anything, which wasn't very often, they did come. And if it was something covered, they wouldn't charge for it. Because they had come, we had to change the door, have it made and put in. They had to come and redo that, but they didn't charge anything. I'm very well pleased with ADT. The only reason I left them was that I moved. With age, I downsized from a house to an apartment with a 24-hour doorman and a garage walk right into the building, so we no longer have security systems in individual apartments. Otherwise, I would have still been with ADT.

    Do not sign up with this company! They don't stand with their clients and will hide behind a clause in the contract. We were not told, even though we asked, that we need to get a permit with the city. Turns out we do and we were fined $300 for failure to have a permit which only ADT can provide. ADT's response was "Sorry it's your responsibility to know and we are not required to tell you." We would break our contract for this alarm system that may not work due to it not being permitted, but they want $600 to do that!

    We’ve had ADT installed more than 10 years ago. The problem is it's an outdated system and doesn't have any of the advantages that the new alarm system offers. You can’t even have the alarm working with a wireless phone, like to the internet, and you have to have a ground line to be able to work with the alarm system. Other than that, whenever there is a problem or for some reason the alarm goes off, they always call and problems are taken care of.

    It would take some time to go into all the details of my experience with getting an ADT Home Security system installed so I will just highlight the major events. My installation was scheduled for Sat 4/29/17. The technician arrived at 8am but didn't leave until around 8:45pm! My entire day gone! The technician was very nice but may have lacked experience. He asked where I wanted the main panel, drilled a hole and placed the panel in its position on the wall. He later asked if I had a landline installation or cellular. I was surprised he didn't know.

    I told him land and he said, "Well we're going to have to move it closer to the phone line." I asked why that wasn't confirmed before putting a hole in my wall? He explained how they don't always get the correct information. All the more reason to ask certain questions up front. Just going to summarize the main items: Almost 13 hours to install, my drywall got damaged, sloppy installation of small cut jagged edges of conduit pieces to cover wires instead of smooth cuts of bigger pieces cut to fit the wall and I ended up helping to cut the conduit pieces. Didn't have proper tools. I provided tools I had for use. Voice panel announcing zones not working, motion sensor not installed.

    Rescheduled to comeback to finish installation, appointment canceled and rescheduled again, more damage to drywall, small pieces of conduit still in place, and motion sensor appears to not be working. I called ADT Mon to explain my installation experienced. Very nice manager named Michael assisted me and even offered compensation in the form of second pad for my inconvenience. I was hopeful. The second attempt resulted in what I listed above after "appointment canceled and rescheduling." Also couple of the reps when you call customer service are a bit nonchalant about issues you bring. After all of this and the amount of time wasted, I'm ready to cancel.

    Our home alarm system hasn't worked right in 3 years!! We have requested multiple times for a new system. They come out and fiddle with it. Refuse to put in a new one. 2 days later it goes off every 3 hours until we unplug it. There is no comfort or safety in that!!     The motion detector is useless because I have cats and a dog. I was ASSURED by ADT reps that our pets wouldn't be a problem for the motion detector. That turned out to be a complete lie. Every time we use the "Away" setting the pets set the motion detector off. It took about the 8th representative of yours I spoke with to tell me that the motion sensor starts picking up around 4', maybe even less. If I had been told that up front I would have never signed up for this faulty, useless system.

    So now only two doors and one window of my house are consistently armed for $45.43 a month. That is nearly double the cost the mail in offers I'm receiving now for the exact same setup. And it's nearly double the cost of the "new customer" promos I see online. Additionally we even saw advertisements for the lesser costs on TV the same week I was ripped off by ADT.

    Why am I paying $45+ a month for a home that can be broken into via all but one window and your system won't detect it because I can't use my motion detector and the "Armed Away" setting? We can only ever is "Arm stay" (which doesn't secure most of our windows/home) when we leave the house to keep the alarm from going off due to the pets. (I went out and bought a camera app just to feel more secure.)

    ADT lied repeatedly AND ripped me off. When I spoke with the one finally honest rep who told me the motion detector was essentially useless due to the pets I saw no need to have another technician come out. I filled out a customer survey detailing my experience and an ADT Corporate Customer Relations Consultant responded via email to my complaints by sending me another ADT sign and asking if I had a technician out - that was it. Incredibly unacceptable.

    And I've not even gotten into how both ADT and their 2nd party security company pointed fingers at one another during the entire debacle. It's pathetic, they can't even work together. The customer service experience is appalling. We're canceling ADT. I can't imagine that anyone with pets can use their motion detector properly. I know my coworker is having the same issue but isn't willing to pay the high fee to cancel ADT. Why aren't people speaking up?

    Several houses got broken into all at the same time on my street. I was with Brink's for a good while and they merged with ADT. I went through some adjustment periods in the beginning with how to use the alarm and the pet movement tripped at one time where I had to adjust the motion sensor. I also had several accidental trips and when I talked to them, the reps seemed to be very courteous, very prompt and professional.

    Then we had some window replacements where they had to come out and rewire that back up. And we had some additional window sensors added upstairs so they put the battery operated window sensors because they weren't pre-wired. The techs who came were very good and I like that they wore a uniform because I wanted to know that they worked for ADT or Brink's. They also showed identification and I let them do their work. They cleaned up real good which was nice too. I'm happy with the system that I've got. ADT discussed a few things I could add on to it like putting security cameras but I've kind of left it as it is. It works and I don't see anything to be wrong with it. I need a new yard sign though.

I called ADT for installation and they were out here in a pin drop. Later when I was living alone and now in my upper 60s, I got the health alert as well. I'm safe with ADT. It's a good company. There are all these new companies advertising this and that in radio feed. But all these radio stuff going over tells everybody in the whole wide world one's business and I like to keep my business private. Only within a WiFi protected area of my house do I do anything and none of it is on my phone. And when we had a big power outage once and my health system broke and needed a new battery, even when my system is an older one, it didn't take but a heartbeat for them to get me a new one. And then I needed help figuring out how to install it and they helped me do that. They're an excellent company.

    Seriously worse company and I took hardly a week to realize. I was not given complete details of their packages and now the lady says they disclose all the information after the installation through paperworks that their flood of emails. And if you by any means don't get a chance to look into the so-called emails in 3 days, you are in soup. The guy who came to address my concerns told me how the system works and I immediately decided to cancel the service in a week after the installation, and they said I should pay 75% of the contract (i.e. about $1050) to cancel the service any time after 3 days. That's just ridiculous. Never saw any other American company work like this. What is most strange is, they even e-signed themselves on my behalf and claim that I signed the contract - and no escape without paying the termination fee of 75% now. Ridiculous!!

    We have been customers of ADT for about a year now. Their alarm system service is awesome but recently we fell upon hardship and missed 3 payments. I called yesterday to see if we could get caught up on our payments but we were told we breached the contract and couldn't pay the past due balance. There was nothing we could do about it. I asked if they had any "loopholes" for military families who fall upon hardship. They told us NO. We had to pay $1500 in order to even restore our service. Bummer!

    I have a large house with almost 40 contact points, so I bought a security system from ADT and the system package included inside camera, motion detector, and outside speakers. And all work very well. I’m also with United Services Automobile Association that’s affiliated with ADT so I got a discount from ADT. I've had ADT for close to 20 years and I'm extremely satisfied with it. Anytime I have a problem, their service department handles it for me extremely well. I have to call in if I'm having a problem and need something checked out here and make an appointment. But they usually get someone out here almost immediately if it affects my security. But it may take them a while longer if it's not something that's affecting my security like just a low battery. For the most part, their people are professional and friendly, although I've had a couple who didn't do what they were supposed to do, but it was corrected immediately.

    I have had ADT systems in two of my homes. My first experience included multiple attempts to get them to correct the address where the alarm was, as my billing address was different from the location where the alarm was. For some reason, this seemed incredibly difficult for them to fix. On one occasion when the alarm went off, the police were advised to go to the wrong house.

    My most recent experience involved trying to get an existing ADT system expanded and reactivated. I was told by the first team that they were unable to expand the hardwired system I have and would need to redo the whole system as wireless. I declined. A few months later, a salesperson named Brian convinced me to meet to reevaluate the system, stating that they were having problems with some of their other contractors and he saw no problem with what we were requesting, stating that he does what we wanted "all the time" and that the initial salesperson and tech we met with were incorrect.

    After meeting with Brian in our home, he was quite sure the job as requested was possible, and he happily took our deposit and had the installation scheduled for that same afternoon. Unfortunately, when the tech showed up, he stated that the equipment as requested was not even available, and the installation as requested was not possible. In speaking on the phone with Brian that afternoon, he apologized and stated "All I can say is I wish I was better trained." He assured us that our deposit would be refunded in full. After eight days, the credit still was not issued on the credit card, and our credit card company did not even have this as a pending transaction as the credit was never sent by ADT.

    When we emailed Brian, he stated that we would receive the credit within seven more business days. After seven more business days passed and still no credit, I called Brian. He basically said he has no control over banks or billing departments and offered no assistance whatsoever to correct this issue. Funny, ADT has no difficulty processing a charge, but can't seem to handle a credit for a job they were unable to complete. I do not recommend ADT given my own personal negative experiences. There needs to be a high level of trust with those you depend on for home security. Unfortunately, that level of trust isn't there as they demonstrated difficulty understanding their own systems and correcting simple issues in the past. And I do agree with Brian that there needs to be better training, and I'd also suggest stronger customer service skills.

    My monitoring service stopped due to ADT's fault in August 2016. But because I was behind in my payment, they could not send a tech. out to service my ADT system. They say that they have no record of me telling them that I need service, even though they were not monitoring my system due to no electricity going to system. I let the collections department know that my system was not working, but again, I was told of their policy: no payment, no tech.

    In January 2017, I paid up-to-date for a tech. to service their system. He did not get the system in operation. I stopped paying again (my policy: no service, no payment). In April 2017, I received a bill and called, therefore they sent a tech. out to service system. He got the system in operation and charged me $25.00. I again received an email threatening that I would lose my monitoring service due to nonpayments. I called again and because they do not have it in their records (their claim) that I did not call until January, they will only give me credit from January. She would not let me talk to anyone else that could help me with this situation. Why would I have to pay for service that I did not receive which is monitoring my system?

    Local ADT office, but have encountered their staunch resistance to our request. We have been ADT clients for 9 years. This year, we chose to upgrade our system to have cell phone access for our home and garage doors. We paid for the upgrade and the installer came to complete the work. After he finished, I went to look and was HORRIFIED to see this monstrosity in my daughter's closet!! We previously had a small, unassuming box that plugged in. Now we have boxes, cords, wires and it looks absolutely awful!

    When we built our home, we asked the contractor to hide our cable wires behind an easy access panel that would blend seamlessly with our closet. To have ADT disregard our desire to have minimal impact on our closet is infuriating! On the opposite side of the wall is an unfinished basement with electric outlets. I told the ADT rep that I would prefer it to be there. He said it HAD to be in the closet. After getting another consultant from ADT, I learned that we never needed this larger box and system, AND that it could have been placed in the unfinished basement or in our garage. Neither option was provided me. ADT in our area (Greeley, CO) said that they would move the box but it would cost us several hundred dollars.

    I am seeking resolution. We are long-term customers who have paid faithfully every month -- even after our contract was up several years ago. This is our very first equipment upgrade. The final kicker is that when the installer was done with the work, he went to the garage to connect the overhead doors to the remote that would allow us to operate this from our phones, and he learned our doors are incompatible. So, we now only have cell phone access to arm or disarm our system. COMPLETELY WORTHLESS! We were able to do the exact same thing from our phones before, using a code. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP US FIND RESOLUTION!!!

    In July of 2014 I purchased my house, I was almost immediately contacted by an ADT representative; I have never had any need for home security since I have lived on military installations. She informed me that I would be eligible for a $250 rebate if I signed up. She made an appointment for me with a local installer and I was also told that the installer would sit and discuss the best options for me with my house and I could still decide not to get an ADT system.

    On the day of my appointment the installer arrived and almost immediately began to look for a place for the keypad, he was more interested in getting me to upgrade and move on than discussing anything with me. I was still on the fence about getting home security and hoped to be enlightened. However, the installer began to drill a hole in my wall and place the keypad. The location of the keypad is in the furthest point from my front door. I have a 4000 sq ft home and the front door is on the first floor, I would have to come in my front door and sprint up 13 stairs and across another room to disarm the system. This is not an easy feat since my house is located at 9600 feet above sea level. I was not happy about the placement but it was too late.

    He next installed a motion sensor; I informed him that once my furniture arrived there would be a large piece of furniture in the spot where HE decided to place the motion detector. He was unmoved and continued to place the sensor. I also informed him that I had 4 large dogs and asked if they would set off the sensor, he said they would and continued to install. My growing concern for this system to even be usable continued. He next moved downstairs and informed me that I needed to buy more sensors; I was really dissatisfied at this point and told him that I would prefer not to do any upgrades. He became annoyed with me and told me that if he had to come back to my house to do any upgrades it would be $100 charge. I inquired about the rebate and he said I needed to contact the person who set up the appointment, even though she told me that the installer would help me with that. I felt I had been scammed at this point.

    Fast forward to 2016, my purse was stolen, including the debit card that was used to pay my monthly bill for my ADT service that had never been used. I was issued a new card; before I could update my record with ADT I received a very threatening letter. I was appalled at the tone of the letter. Up to this point my account was always paid on time. I decided to let my account lapse and inquire about the rebate again. I mailed a letter to your company and received no response, so I called and talked to a customer service rep and was horrified as to how I was talked to.

    The rep asked my information and his exact words were, "Ok, let's take a look at your account and see if there are any nasty surprises". I have never been so insulted by a company as I was with that. He was very curt, unfriendly and after this comment I knew I had been throwing my money away for almost 2 years to a company who had such shoddy customer service.

    I was an ADT customer for many years both at home and at my business. About 3 years ago I relocated my office. I called ADT, said I was relocating. They asked, "Cancel service or relocate?" I said, "Relocate" "Then we will send you to sales dept." I set up the new address with sales, started the ADT monitoring service there and thought that was it. I found out that ADT continued to charge me for security service at the building I had vacated... for about 2 YEARS. They were auto-deducting from my account and my bookkeeper didn't catch it.

    When I went to cancel the office I had moved to, as I was closing up the business, I called them to cancel and found out about the double charging. I explained I wasn't in the other location, that it was leased by another company and they had their own (not ADT) security. ADT couldn't have cared less, just kept telling me "You should've cancelled that service on your former office." I told them I called, that I was asked "cancel or relocate?" And I was sent to sales department, not cancellation department.

    All fell on deaf ears. I was so upset and yelling that they finally said, "If you will send us proof that there was another business in your old location, that they had their own security, we will refund the over $600 we owe you." Well, I did that, I sent them a 28 page document with all the proof, even an email from the owner of the business occupying my old office stating they were IN THAT SPACE, THAT THEY HAD THEIR OWN SECURITY, etc., that was 2 months ago. ADT, NO RESPONSE. I followed up, NO RESPONSE. What a terrible company, terrible customer relations. I would NEVER use them again. I recommend NO ONE use them. They are also OVERPRICED. I can get the same service I had with them for 1/3 the price. DON'T BE RIPPED OFF, KEEP AWAY FROM ADT.

    Our original ADT window stickers are starting to crack and fall off of the windows and I was making a trip to our vacation home April 20-24 and wanted to replace them. The lady that sold me the service made a statement at the time that if I was going to change my windows and stuff like that out, there’d be no problem, they’d come and take them off and put them back on once I had the windows changed at no charge. When I was about to have that done, they told me there would be a charge. But once I explained to them the lady told me there wouldn’t be, they didn’t charge me for it. The installers were great.     I have the wireless system from ADT but it's an older type system that's not controlled by the smartphone. They called me not too long ago because the storm blew one of my doors open and the alarm was going off. They were very helpful and very considerate. They woke me up so it took me a minute to get conscious of what was happening but I'm very satisfied with them.     I received a robocall for a service I was interested in hearing more about. When I spoke to a lady she insisted that I called her first. I in fact was returning a robo call. She wouldn't give me a word in edgewise and rather frustrating. I asked for a manager and was hung up on. I called back to speak to a manager and once again the same thing happens. This company likes to dominate the conversations and railroad you into service. They are nice until you say no. I was considering service, no I will advocate to never contact this company. They bait you in with "free" then explain in the first sentence it isn't going to be free. Afterwards you deal with aggression and pressure. I will plan to disconnect my companies business account in the wake of this conversation. The bulky antiquated "new" equipment is outdated and not worth the effort. Then to be suckered into a 3-year contract. Terrible.

    It's a shame that you live in a country where you can't even be secure in your own home. I used to think a lot of Alabama and was happy when we retired here. But I'm not quite the same after we got robbed. We were not home when it happened. So my son who has ADT recommended it to us. We then got the basic security package from them and am glad we haven't needed it yet.

    Everybody was really nice but I was sorry that I had to pay for installation when I got a call so many times in which it was mentioned they will install it for free. And I had one just eight days before I got it. I told a friend of mine when it was on TV the other day that they'll install it free. Then she talked to them and said to me that they could not get it free. Also, it's a shame that we have to pay $50 a month to be secure in our own home. And it was a little high because my daughter who's got ADT in Tennessee only pays $35 a month. But my husband said, "In our age, we just don't care." He's 88 and I'm gonna be 87.

    They are a third party service, they use intimidation tactics against their customers and are bullies!! I unfortunately signed with them and it's been downhill ever since. The tech who installed, didn't know what he was doing, was at my house till 11 pm! He hit on me, left unnecessary holes in my wall (still not fixed), he left trash for me to clean up, found a keypad and window sensor in it, hope I'm not getting charged for that! Called a week later because my equipment was not working. Another tech had to come out. He was frustrated because he had spent his day fixing installations and was even more frustrated when he found out he was not at my house to upsell me on equipment. Nobody took the time to explain how to use any of the equipment. I called three months later to see how much it would be to break the contract and that's when the real problems began.

    I spent SEVEN HOURS getting hung up on, placed on hold or sent to voicemail. One of the times on hold the ladies in the call center forgot I was there, and were talking about their "wild night out". Five minutes later when they realized I was still there and could hear them, she quickly hung up on me. I had to send an email to Defender's corporate office to get a phone call back. Anglelica said they would give me three months' credit for my mistreatment. A month later still don't have the credit. This week I started getting phone calls from Defender's collection agency at all hours of the day and night.

    I finally got a rep on the phone this morning, her name was Sarah. She informed me I need to pay her $1200 right now because they're canceling my service. You can't imagine my confusion considering the last contact I had with both companies was me calling asking why I still haven't received my three month credit? I told her that and she became very abrasive. I wanted to know where she got the $1200 number, because a month ago when ADT/Defender looked at my account and how much it would be to break the contract both companies agreed it would be $700. Every month I've paid for half of the equipment the amount goes down, not up?!! Sarah snaps back at me saying "Well they must have given you a 50% off coupon to break your contract".

    2 problems, first that math doesn't add up, second I didn't cancel my account? So she raised her voice and told me she couldn't help me. I need to call ADT loyalty and hung up. I emailed corporate again to let them know. I don't expect a response. Get a nest. This company can't be trusted with protecting your family. They only want your money!

    We live in an older neighborhood and one of our neighbors, the one whose side yard is touched by our back fence, was broken into and had a very unfortunate experience with the burglar and ended up at our back door bleeding. So we looked into getting a security system. I called ADT and they sent out a young salesperson and we were impressed with him. He explained everything and he was personable and gave us confidence in the company. We got the wireless alarm box and we have one fob. We have alarms on a couple of our windows. And then, we have two glass breaks. We have a two-storey house and it's all on the first floor. We have the automatic doors on the garage but we also have an alarm on the man-door. The battery on my fob has bit the dust so I have to change that.

    The installation team was polite and careful in installing the alarm. They did not make a mess, or messed up anything they had to mess up. They were all put into place and where the power box is, was relatively concealed. It's on one of our family room walls, and they went through the wall, and on the other side is the kitchen. Our whole neighborhood had an extensive power outage a year ago and I wondered how that would affect the security system. Our internet was dead and I know that it's linked to our wireless. I called ADT and they assured me that it would go to an LTE service so that we did not lose our connectivity. I was pleased with that.

    We're very satisfied with the services and it has given us the feeling of more security. Fortunately, there has not been anything like the incident with our neighbor again in the neighborhood but we feel better about having the security system. However, I was never too sure about the glass break. I doubted if it worked well. One night, the phone rang and they said there had been broken glass. What has happened was we had a sliding glass door and Jerry had propped a golf umbrella on the side of it. One of our cats knocked it over. It did not break the glass but it must have pinged off the glass and set off the alarm. So, we're very pleased that it does work. Luckily, we've never had an incident that wasn't by us forgetting to do something.

    There was a young lady going around selling and trying to get orders for ADT. That was in 1998 and we ended up getting it. The installers came and did very well what they had to do. We have an old system compared to what’s going on now and it's the regular whatever it was back then. We don’t have the one where you could be outside somewhere and start it or stop it. We have the security and the feature that alerts the cops and firemen. We also have the chimes on the doors. The main thing, however, is we have to physically touch it in order for it to work.

    I called their customer service because I thought I would be able to upgrade and get the more digital one. They had someone come out and they realized it was one of the older versions and they could not update it like that. They would have to pull out everything that’s old and reinstall a whole new system. But I'm not going for that so we’ll keep what we have. A lot of times I also called to find out why our bill went up and brought to their attention how we have been a customer for 20 years and how I did not feel like we should pay any more than what we're paying. They agreed with me and they lowered the monthly payments. During those times, customer service was excellent and they very respectful. And even though we can’t get an upgrade, I’m still satisfied with what we do have. All in all, they’ve been very understanding and have been there to help. If we have a problem and if there’s anything they could do on their end, they will do it.

    On 5/6/2016, I bought an upgrade system (ADT Pulse) from ADT for $1000. And I pay $52.99 per month to ADT. On 10/?/2016, I called ADT to cancel my service, the rep checked my account and told me I paid my equipment and I can cancel any time I want. So I told her to cancel the account for me. I thought that's it. But they kept charging me. On 1/7/2017, so I let my credit card company to deal with them. I got my refund back. Boys, little do I know about ADT. On 4/8/2017, I received a collection letter from Hillcrest Davidson. On 4/10/2017, According to them I owe "Protect Your Home" $648. I said, "Who?!?!" First time I heard... We had a confrontation, I hung up on him. On 4/11/2017, a gentleman voice left a message. When I called back, I hung up the phone as soon as I knew it was the rudeness rep.

    From 4/12/2017 to current. Hillcrest (he called himself Mr. **) use imitation tactic to make me pay him including threaten phone call. He used at least 2 different phones to sent me nasty text, call me name, sent a photo of a woman?!?! 4/18/17, Defender called, we are playing phone tag. After I did a lot of research, this is what I found out behind the scam. Once after you sign the paper, they can take your money in two ways, either you keep paying them until your 2 years (California residents) or 3 years contract (non-California) end. OR they tricked you to cancel the contract.

    In my case, one of my doors was opened by the wind. It triggered the alarm, usually ADT called me and then they sent me an email. I felt weird I only got the email but they didnt call me this time. I guessed police came and fine me $30 (I paid $19 addition for late payment) because I didnt have the permit to operate it. I found out I need to pay $325 for the permit when I tried to sign up online. I was pissed ADT didnt tell me to do that. I only need to pay $50 per two years if they told me to do it from the beginning. See how they trapped me.

    Here is what I understand after I put the pieces of info together... ADT hire Protect Your Home to install system for ADT. They have a contract between themselves that if a customer cancel the contract, Protect Your Home will get 42.71% (in my case) of remain balance. If they cant get the money, Hillcrest Davidson comes in to use law to make you pay. If you dont pay them, they threaten you..your credit score, will..25% add on top of what you owe. Now I know why ADT didnt give me a copy of the contract. I didnt get an itemize price for each item neither. They showed me on a piece of paper of the item devices prices but they took it with them. BUYER BEWARE!!!

    The smoke alarm works fine but it was just smoke. We were call by ADT. ADT said the fire station was notified. We ask would they give us a number to call to indicate everything was ok.     I had ADT for approximately three years in my home. Due to unforeseen events I had to reluctantly cancel my service. I called customer service to let them know that although my service was cancelled my alarm continued to go off twice a day. I was instructed to disconnect one of the boxes ADT installed in my home. I did that. Then I was told to find the second box that was responsible for the alarm going off. Three different customer service people have told me that the box I need to find is "somewhere" in my basement. Yet, myself as well as friends and family have not been able to locate this box. Since I no longer have ADT they refuse to come out to my home to find and disconnect the device. We are stuck with an alarm system that goes off twice daily even though we have no alarm. And this has gone on for over a year. Priceless. ADT had terrible customer service as far as I am concerned.

    We had Brinks at first and ADT picked up Brinks. The door contact with the home was already prewired for everything, so the only thing ADT did was change the box where the controls are and put in new keypads. It was fine when they came out to do it and they've been efficient whenever the alarm goes off, so I'm satisfied with the service. But I will be happier if the rates were lower. It bothers me that so many other companies are offering reduced rates and they're not. We're getting monitoring from them and the equipment was already here. They sent us a couple of stickers and then there was nothing else that they needed to do. It amazes me that with the same service that every other monitoring company is offering, ADT's rates aren't coming down.

    My grandmother who lives alone was not sleeping due to not feeling safe. I decided to add security service. My only option in a section of Gainesville, Fl was ADT. My previous experience with ADT was poor. I vowed to NEVER use ADT again. My grandmother needed to feel secure and I had no choice. For the past 3+ years I paid ADT, she was happy, sleeping. The problem as of April 2017... she lost her key fob for security system. I called ADT to replace. After back and forth the total was $78; I agreed and it was scheduled. Tech went out next day. I called ADT about another problem and discovered the installation was done incorrectly and no signal for the monitoring service was received until today (tech brought new key fob and programmed). I'm like WHAT... for the past 3+years I have paid for something that was not working.

    The technical support rep reached-out to billing advising of refund due to me. After a total of hour plus on phone I was advised a manager from billing will call in 24 hours to discuss and allow them to research further what happen and due to large refund I may be due. It's past 24 hours and I have yet to receive a call. You would think a company such as ADT would care enough to resolve or discuss... I'm so disappointed and angry... Note: I live in Atlanta, GA. All I wanted to do was give my grandmother peace in her home. ADT I'm waiting for a call to resolve.

    Due to a burglary, I had ADT install an alarm system in my home. Since then I have been burglarized 3 additional times. Why does ADT call my daughter who is 6 hours away to tell them to call the police. I live in rural Coos Bay County, there are only 4 sheriff's deputies on duty night shift in the entire county. By the time they are informed of entry the burglar has already taken whatever he wants and has already left. Also, the audible alarm is not loud enough to be heard by neighbors. I am now installing my own video camera system so I will at least be able to identify the burglar.

    I have maintained contracts with ADT for 20+ years at my residence in Burbank, California, and at my residence in Spokane Washington. I have been generally satisfied with the quality of service, although there have been some difficulties with equipment failure. In Burbank I've had difficulty with one motion sensor which sporadically sets off the alarm for no known reason and I have had to bypass that station to avoid false alarms. In Spokane one of my motion sensors lost an electric contact while batteries were being replaced, also requiring bypassing that station each time the alarm is set. Because service calls are unreasonably expensive and warranty periods are unreasonably short, I have opted to live with the failed items. Additionally the monthly monitoring fees have more than doubled such that I am having to re-evaluate the necessity of maintaining the service.

    We're having an excellent experience with ADT. Luckily, we've never had any attempted break-ins for us to be called. So in that regard, it's been great, because we have had numerous break-ins in the neighborhood. The only time we've ever been called about the alarm was about four years ago when it went off. We were on our way out of state. As it turned out, the alarm only went off because the severe thunderstorm set off the motion detector. But the police came out, they checked, and the doors weren't open. Then ADT reset it. And then last year, we changed over from a landline to the cell phone service so it's no longer connected to a landline. Their rep explained what our options were and we were happy to go with the new setup that we got.

    The only thing that concerns me is that we never have gotten a new ADT sign and somebody might think that we just have the sign stuck up out there, that it's not really a real service because we don’t have a current ADT sign. So I would like to have a current sign but the last guy that came out from ADT didn’t have it on his truck even though we asked that he bring one. It didn’t happen. It's not their top priority because they haven't done anything else about it. But apart from that, we're glad we have ADT. We feel fairly confident that when we leave our house, should something happen, we would get a rapid response as opposed to coming home and finding our home trashed. We would recommend them.

    My alarm system had a low battery. I called ADT and followed their instructions by purchasing a new battery and my husband installed it. We were told it would take 24 to 48 hours for it to charge. During that time period I had to silence my door opening chimes because every 4 hours the system beeped and I had to manually silence it. I was not happy. To add to this issue my smoke detector battery needed changing so again I called ADT and they advised me to change the battery and then it would probably take another 24 to 48 hours for my system to recharge. Well 4 days later system still reporting low battery and I also received daily calls from ADT saying the same thing.

    Finally ADT agreed to send a technician to my home. He was very good informed me that the system would not reset until the power was completely turned off and turned back in. He also said my battery was a difficult one to replace and it was replaced properly except for the power issue. My feeling on this whole experience is that a tech should have been my first option not do it yourself. Let it be known the technician was great. It was the hassle with customer service to get him here. Next time I will not change my own battery and will request a tech.

I sometimes forget to shut it off when we leave the house, or in the mornings when I get up, and then my husband will go out and the alarm goes off and I have to rush to shut it off.     We have five grown children with families and we travel to visit with them a fair amount, and we wanted our house to be protected from people getting in that we didn't want to while we're gone. We've used the ADT security system for a year and a half or so, and it works. We have the remotes to set the alarm when we leave and turn it off when we come home. We also have motion and door detectors. In addition, some sliding glass doors and breaking glass detectors. The ADT reps have been very responsive to my request. And once in a while, I accidentally set the alarm off and so I end up talking to the ADT team on the phone. They call to check and make sure everything's okay, and they've always been very friendly. They did a good job and their charges were reasonable. I'm totally satisfied with ADT and have recommended them to several friends already.

    I got motion detectors and door protectors from ADT and I’ve had very good service from the company. Their people came in, set up my system, were professional and I appreciated that. They were on time and it didn't take them long to do what they had to do. They cleaned up after and showed me how to use all the particulars. With the system installed, I feel safer at night or when I'm gone, and I know the house is locked down and that if something happens, I'll get a notification that'll let me know. He informed me of some of the limitations of the equipment so my expectations were met after installation was complete. I appreciated his honesty. I hate to be let down when my expectations are not met and the sale rep doesn't inform me that I'm expecting too much from the equipment. Austin also offered what I thought was a gracious cost savings due to my over 12 years of business with ADT. Ultimately, the system install cost much more than I had anticipated but not the fault of anyone, it is because of the number of entries to the house and adding video to our plan is what drove the price.
