I needed security because we had trouble with people breaking in our home. I called ADT then because their name was probably the biggest. I saw an advertisement in the paper, something about for a basic price, you would get the system. So, I called them first and the lady in the line gave me a super deal, so I took it. However, I was very unhappy with them. They sent a subcontractor who would not honor the deal that I was given over the phone. I did not have anything in writing. They just talked in kind of a double talk. And the way they presented the deal, it was not straightforward at all. So, I initially put in a lot of sensors on each window in the house. Then when I was talking to some friends, they said, “No, you really do not need that much.”
So, I tried to call them back to take out some of the sensors because it was too expensive for my budget. And the subcontracting company was very busy, and it took a long time to get them back. But he finally came back. But I still felt like I did not get the deal that I was told I would get. This was a bad experience. I’m probably going to cancel their service in the near future. Some people, nevertheless, have good experience with ADT. But, this subcontractor is notorious for being bad. They are unscrupulous business people. I have since heard of other companies that are better. You should check the reviews better. Do your research. Other companies are just ruthless to meet their quotas and their sales quotas. They will do anything. It is incredible.

The representative was nice. However, she was very misleading. The initial contact was over the phone. I called and said I was interested. She set up an appointment for me and I had asked her what the appointment would entail. She said a representative was gonna come out and explain the options and what would be best suited for our home. She couldn't give me any pricing, which I understood all depends on the system you get so that was kind of post-decision. But I had specifically asked her whether I would need to have a decision that day or if we could sit and think about it. She said that the rep would come out, do the estimate and give us the numbers, and then they will set up a second appointment to come out for installation after we decide to move forward.
When the guy came out to show us the product and the systems that he was recommending, we weren't fully moved in the house yet. We were still in the moving process. So I told him I wasn't trying to be rude but since I had a million and one things going on, I was gonna work and talk to him. He showed me some stuff and I liked what I saw. I told him to let my wife and I sit down, talk about it and go over numbers then I would get back with him for installation date. He looked at me like I had said something surprising. He said, "Well, today is the installation date. You need to pick your package today and I install it today." I told him that's not what the lady on the phone said.
I talked to him and apologized for the hassle and the miscommunication but I told him I would just need him to come back out. He got his supervisor on the phone and they started kinda finagling with numbers. Ultimately, it turned into high pressure sales tactic. Basically, if I didn't buy that day, I was not gonna get the equipment discount or credit and I was gonna have to pay all these extra fees if they come back out. Having that dropped on me that day was unexpected and unappreciated. Ultimately, just to save the equipment credit, I went ahead and got some of the essentials for the system. I like the system and the options. I do like being able to bring it up on the phone. But I would have postponed moving forward of getting it. The sales guy who came out was very polite and professional. He was just doing his job.
But looking back, I really wish I hadn't done it just because my mind wasn't where I wanted it to be. I don't feel like I got the system that I really wanted just because of how quick it all happened. I'm gonna end up paying a monthly bill for something that I'm not even utilizing. The system is here and it's all plugged in on the garage. But it's not installed yet because I told him I would call him back when I had time to deal with an installation. Also, after running numbers, just trying to catch up from all the front money buying the home, I actually can't afford the system. But on that day, I didn't have time or the mental capacity to sit down and run through all the numbers to make sure I was doing the right thing.

We had to go back and forth with the manager during the purchase because we were on a bad line. It was a little bit of a pain in the neck but it all worked out in the end. The installation was seamless so we were good to go. They kind of put an onus on the installer to show me what made sense for our home. He was great, very thorough, responsible, respectful and personable. Since having my ADT system installed, I like the peace of mind the most. It’s a big thing and everything is good.

I sold my house but had signed a 3-year deal with ADT. When I asked them could I stop, I had to pay $500. I’m supposed to get that back when I redid it with them. When I first called them, the sales rep gave me this great deal with this whole box but I wound up spending another $500 or $600 trying to get sensors in my house. I still don’t have all my windows done like I was wanting. With me having a $500 credit, I should’ve gotten every window and door in the house on the system. So, it was way more expensive. I wanted something to protect my house, but it cost me way more than I thought it was gonna cost me. If I would’ve done it right, I would’ve just paid for myself and got all my windows done.

I like ADT very much. However, I'm pretty upset because I ordered certain things over the phone with the ADT salesperson and when this installer came, he upsold a bunch of stuff to my wife. My wife cannot make certain decisions as she's on medication. What she signed up for, we neither needed it nor want it. While the installer was there, he never called me to get my authorization granted. He was talking to my wife. The salesperson also did not call me at any moment during the installation. I'm very upset about it as well. I've been intending to call ADT to complain about this. Unfortunately, I work very long hours.and I'm the only working person of a family of five. I've made the call before and I just haven't had time. Overall, I’m very dissatisfied. If they've done something for me that I do not want, that makes me very upset. Plus, the keypad is so loud. When I leave in the morning at five, it wakes everybody up.

There was ADT here before we moved in. We called up because we really needed it to keep our grandson from falling because we have a pool in the back. I was putting alarms on the doors so we'd know when he went in and out. Our grandson is getting older now that we kind of watch him. But we don't set the system often because we don't have a lot of problems here compared to some areas. My husband's been turning it on but we don't do that a lot. He has trouble getting the thing to work right. It's just one more too many things.
Switching over, I pretty much had to change it all because it was a very old system. When the wireless one was done, I told the guy I had a problem with that. But I already said that and he did not tell me the cost of doing it wirelessly. I already had it set up here with wires and I didn't need to go wireless. There wasn't any reason to do that other than the fact that the guy made a lot more commission on it. I then had a bigger charge every month after it started running. I had the guy take it and go back to the wired system which is fine. It’s through the phone lines because we still have them. That's how the system is still working. I figured most thieves today don't even what the phone lines are. It may have been a problem in the past. But wireless is more of a problem like getting interference and getting blocked.
Thieves understand to go to your router. It's easier than they understand, “I gotta cut the wires.” Today, young thieves don't know anything about old phones. I didn't worry too much about it and we weren't doing it because we had any break-ins. We were doing it initially to make sure we could tell when my grandson would leave the house and go into the backyard. We were trying to keep track of it.
We go to Florida once in a while but I haven’t gotten our watcher, John, to turn the system on even when we’re down there. We’re gone a lot and we have a lot of neighbors close by. They're here all winter and they keep an eye on things. Also, John comes in here and brings our mail in. The system is something he has to turn off. He would have to change the code once in a while but he didn’t do it. He didn’t wanna mess with it although I think he should. We can do it but I’ve got too many things on my mind to be able to keep track of this right now. I keep telling John that he really needs to keep remembering how to do it. He has to look it up to remember how to set it up again, make sure the code’s in there, and make sure he knows the code. I said, “We need to change the codes when we go to Florida and have the guy that comes in, so he knows what the code is.” I didn’t get him to do it last year.
Other than that, our system should work just fine. We haven't had any issues. If we have some break-ins in the neighborhood, my husband would start using it because he can do it. He didn't set it up but it’s there. We will set it up if we have to and make sure it’s working well. We set it up the other night when we went to a funeral. My husband said it was the time we really needed to put the system on. The system is a little more than I wanna figure out to do right now. But I don't think it's that complicated. It just is for me right at the moment.

A family member had ADT 28 years ago and when I called the company, I got three different prices every time I was on the phone with somebody. They sucked and I never received any stickers or yard signs as well, but the installer was good. He was knowledgeable and he showed me how to use everything. It works good even though sometimes it won’t let me arm my security system from my phone. I just get out of the app then I go back to it and it works. I have a wife and our three kids and I need protection. If somebody comes to my house, we’ll see how it works.

The sales rep was nice. But at that time, I was trying to get back to work and I already had ADT before so I knew how it would work, but the rep talked a little bit more than what I expected somebody to come in the house to do. But he did a great job. He explained everything to me and then he finally went in and did what he had to do. Overall, it was great. But now, I need somebody else to come out because my window one is not activated 'cause when I open my kitchen window, it doesn't chime or make any noise.

We were just looking for a company that could use our current built-in system. And ADT is the one that matched up and so it just worked out. The ADT sales rep was helpful and just gave us what we needed. Installation went great. The installer just had to install a few things 'cause I said our home was a new build and a security system installed. But it went fairly smoothly. It's great and it has been really easy to use especially with the phone. We almost only use it.

We have another brand in California and we weren't really happy with it. ADT is the industry standard so we went with it. The installers, Kendrick and Anthony, were both very professional and did a fantastic job. I could not have asked for nicer guys. Initially, we were not going to be able to get our daughter's alarm system installed that day. They had to wait until this next month or so. They made a phone call with the supervisor then they went to my daughter's house and were there for another four hours. Their attitude was great.
I've set the alarm off a couple of times accidentally in our house and then I had to go back and figure out how to fix that, which was no big deal. It was easy enough to do it and I didn't have to call the cops. But in my daughter's house, the doorbell started going off for no apparent reason. I went over there and disconnected it in the home and that fixed that. Then I thought it was the battery that might have gone bad or the doorbell was bad when they put it in. I looked at it and I didn't have any idea how to put a battery there. I'm not gonna mess with it because that probably would void the warranty that was why I called Kendrick and told him about it. He said that there was no battery in that doorbell and that I needed to do an internet speed check. I had to download the app to do that and I told him the result was very low. He said that it was not getting a strong internet signal to make the doorbell work.
I called AT&T then I got somebody on the line that knew what they were doing and spoke English and I could understand them. They said that they were gonna boost my daughter's internet speed and we should have no problem. Well, it's still not working and that's probably an AT&T thing. That has nothing to do with ADT. But the system at my daughter's house still is not working properly. My wife told me to call ADT and tell them either to get out there and fix it or give us our money back and take the equipment back in both houses. We spent $9,000 that day and it's not on credit. It needs to work. My daughter lives by herself in a nice neighborhood. I'm not as concerned, but I want her to be protected as well.

I'm a first-time homebuyer. My dad happened to pass when the ADT specialist sat here while I went to the hospital to go say goodbye to my dad. And he was here when I got back and he stayed and he talked to me. He didn't pressure me or anything. He was very professional. And so, I appreciate him. ADT was great as well because I was supposed to close on March 30th, but due to COVID I had to keep calling and rescheduling and they were really great with that. They have definitely been awesome.

I don’t have that much experience because I have it only for a couple of weeks and I’m still trying to find a way I can put in if I’m walking out. And today, I’m still worried that if I put the code and then next day, I feel that the alarm would start if I walk to the bathroom because I turned it on. But the man said, “No, no, no. Just go ahead. And really, you have security that if somebody else can break in, then you can hear it also. The alarm system will go on.” But other than that, so far, I’m happy.
The only thing I’m not happy is that I usually have AT&T Life for the big house. And I’m having problems because I get bills, getting paying if I draw from the bank. That’s another 55-plus. I had that service for a long, long time. Before ADT and installed this alarm, the tech said, “I’m trying to help you.” He did as much as he could, but they didn’t listen to me. So, I’m scared that I would go to the bank and cancel the AT&T Life, then it would affect my phone. For whatever reason, it affects my phone when that has nothing to do with my phone with the alarm system. I haven’t had the alarm system for a long, long time. So, I’m trying to see if they would reimburse that.
I have tried then but they said, “No. You need to do it online.” I said, “Well, it’s not fair what I’m going through because now I have two payments, the one from the new security plus the old security, that it was already shut down.” They already cut it but they sure did not cut it from the bank. But other than that, I’m happy so far with what I have right now in the cottage. I feel secure. I’m living there while I sell my big home and get out of there. But before selling it, I need my protection.

My husband and I had been talking about getting an alarm system for safety purposes. So, we just decided we’d go ahead and give ADT a try. I liked some of the offers that ADT gave, and the things that they provided for your home. One thing I like about the system is that when you open the door to come out, you got that little buzzer sound that lets me know that’s not open because I don't know if my husband and I forgot it for this house. My husband called one time about the battery and they were able to resolve the issue. I like ADT.

I'm a returning ADT customer. I did a lot of research online and selected everything for myself prior to a technician arriving. They should offer more than one option for an exterior home camera. However, the installation was very simple and went smoothly. It was done and explained rather well.

I wanted a loud, audible alarm. It takes 7 to 30 minutes for the police to get there so I knew that a silent alarm is a waste of money and most alarm companies are silent. I have ADT and it's a good system. I got a system that I can tweak but the stuff I wanted was more expensive than what I wanted to pay. They showed me a $4,000 system and then it was 50 bucks a month. I was originally told that it was gonna be 39 a month. It was almost as high as I was expecting.
The system is easy to use. In my experience, alarms aren't complicated. But I wanted something very specific and one that would actually call the police. But it's a little overpriced for what it is. I'll just create my own system and add my own stuff on my own. Other than that, the installers were good. They explained everything clearly and if I had questions, they did a good job trying to get my answer. I'd recommend ADT as a company but I would definitely advise people to look around 'cause I know everybody's needs are different.

We’re in a rental home, but when we move, we can take ADT with us. We also like the 24-hour monitoring, not just having one side or one place that’s monitoring it. There’s more than one location. It was a really easy process. I’m glad that I could get it. The installation went fairly well. The installer came in. It seemed like he was fairly newer, though, but he did the job. Everything is good right now. I haven’t really used it or no one has broken in. So, everything is good. The only thing, the positioning of the back camera is not exactly where I wanted. I tried to move it with my hand, but the way that it’s mounted up there, it’s just not the best angle. The night vision isn’t really catching anything.

ADT has a clause in their contract that allows them to increase the price of service randomly. It says that if I don't agree with the increase, I could give them a call. Every time I've done that, they've eliminated the increase. Still, it's annoying that they have that clause. There was a time when I didn't catch that and I couldn't get my rate back to where it originally was. If people don't catch it, they end up paying more for a contract that they thought was a fixed price. At this point, I think their service is fine and their security system works. But there could be a point when I decided not to go with ADT in the future.
Hello Javier- Thank you for choosing ADT to protect your home. Thank you also for taking the time to reach out to us to provide your feedback. We do have in the agreement that the rate may increase annually and that you do have the right to dispute the increase and we will remove it. We do also offer rates that are locked in, once you are outside of your original agreement. I moved into a house that already had ADT. There was a panel and behind it is a big hole. So I thought I would keep the hole and the panel. I didn't want to take the panel down and have to put a picture over the hole because I rent this house. I'm not gonna fix the hole. The sales guys came out to my house to talk to me and they were younger than myself and kind of green. One guy really knew a lot but the other guy didn’t know a whole lot. However, when I had initially called and said I wanted ADT, they said they would get somebody out here the next day and I was pleased with that.
The sales guys pretty much gave me the best they could do but when they told me the price, I was like, "Holy crap! I can't afford that." So we knocked it down a bit to where I could afford it. The installation took a little while, a couple of hours, but they did a lot of stuff and they did a really good job. They also explained the equipment that I got and how it works and they showed me how to navigate through the panel.
But I called on the third day of my contract with the full intention of canceling it because my wife hates setting the system. She says it's dumb and I really got it for my mother-in-law who is at the house a lot and she’s home alone. If she falls, it’s just to make sure she’s safe. I talked to a guy and he asked me what the deal was. I told him my wife didn't want to pay for the service and I, being an idiot, listened to his sweet talk and accepted it. He said he would give me three months of the service for free, which is 170-something dollars.
Also, I was under the impression that there was a 30-day thing and I guess through ADT, that is correct. But I was not told that ADT owns this Defender company and 13 months of my thee-year contract is with Defender, and Defender wouldn’t honor the 30 days. The guys who came out didn’t even have Defender shirts on. They had ADT shirts on. So I was under the full understanding that I was dealing with ADT and that my contract was with ADT. That aside, they were super nice and cool. They explained everything really well. They didn’t really explain the contract very well but nobody really ever does.
In fact, I got no issues with Defender. Every time I call and talk to people, all those people are awesome. The guy I talked to said that if there was a 30-day policy, he would honor it but they don’t have that in their contract. On the other hand, everyone I talked to from ADT was rude. I didn’t like them. I got transferred to people that won’t even help me. I got hung up on and was left on hold for three hours. It was horrible. I was only a 10-day customer and they were treating me that way because I told them I wanted to cancel the service because I was dissatisfied. So ADT really did me wrong and I’m kinda upset that I couldn’t get out of the contract. I’m kinda stuck with it for now. I would tell others to look elsewhere first – places that don’t have sneaky contracts and third party companies installing equipment in your house.

Some magazine was sent to my house and I saw ADT on it. Then, I saw all of the houses that had the ADT sign on the front yard. I connected with ADT and their sales reps were good. Then, I received a phone call, but I didn’t know where they were calling from. Maybe they were a third-party company. Then I got transferred to ADT's guy.
The installation was good but the first time I made an appointment, I received ADT's call and they said they needed to reschedule the installation to the following week. Since I had to work and I had something to do, I just canceled the thing and I had to make another appointment, which was on Thursday. But that day, nobody showed up. Then after that week, the ADT guy just came out. So, they were not coming on time. Other than that, the system right now is working good. But I got a front camera on my garage on which the guy set an extension, and sometimes I lose the connection with that front yard camera. The ADT salesperson promised some stuff that didn’t deliver. I was told on the phone that they were gonna use the existing equipment we had in the house and when the installer came, he didn’t use any of the equipment. He put all new stuff in so, that was $1,200 worth that I had to pay for that I wasn’t really prepared for. Now, I have two sets of sensors on all my windows and all my doors because all the old stuff are still there.
When the girl was selling me the system, she told me they were gonna throw in an extra key fob so my wife could keep it on her nightstand. She didn’t tell me that to get the key fob service, there was an extra fee that was not included in the 27.99 a month monitoring. The customer service after the fact has been fine as well as the installers. It was just that initial sales contact. I’m under contract now and I have no choice so I’m gonna keep the alarm system but if I can go back and do it again, I probably wouldn’t have gone with ADT knowing all this upfront.

From the standpoint of my dealing with ADT, through advertising, television, internet, the whole bit, they're pretty good at marketing themselves. The initial sales experience seemed fine. When I talked to the salesman on the telephone, we talked about the system, a price, everything got set up. They were responsive. I asked for the system the next day and they gave me a very early date for install, which was the next day. So, the initial interaction with ADT on the phone in getting a time set up and everything worked well. The problems really started the next day with the installation.
The next day they set the appointment, and it was at a condominium I’m renovating. They showed up and my wife was there to meet them. The installer was there with the equipment, and he had one of those e-pads for the contract to go through it. And then, he was going through it and the price that was quoted to me was 27.99 per month. And as you go through it, you initial a page and he flips it. And you go to the next page because it’s on an E-Pad. And then when he was getting to the bottom, he said, “The cost is gonna be 57.99,” or some number considerably higher than the 27. She said, “Wait a minute. That’s not the number that my husband told me that y’all agreed to on the call yesterday.” And he said, “Well, this, that, and the other.” And she said, “Let’s get my husband on the line because I know that’s a pretty big difference and we’re gonna need to talk about it.”
So, they got me on the line, and he gave some explanation to why it was going to be higher. And I said, “Yeah. But I can’t afford that here. This is a rental unit.” And 27 was already a stretch, but 53 or whatever number is just out of my price range. And so, that’s not the agreement that I had with the fellow yesterday. And he said, “I can’t do anything about that.” So, we said, “Don’t install it then. That’s a big change.”
My wife walked off and was doing some other stuff with some contractors that were there. And he installed the system, which my wife came back and went, “Why is the equipment here?” We told him we didn't want it." So, he said when he was walking out, “Look. There’ll be our rescission. You’ll get a contract in the mail within three days. And when you do, you have three days to rescind.” And then he walked off. She said, “Well, okay. If that’s what is supposed to happen, that’s the way we’ll do it.” So, we waited.
By the second day, I haven't gotten anything and I was looking for it so I called. It was installed on a Saturday, so I called on a Tuesday. And the person I spoke to said, “Yeah. There is no contract. It’s been terminated.” And I’m like, “Oh. So, there's nothing I have to do?” They said, “Yeah. That’s right. There's nothing you have to do. It’s been terminated.” So, about two weeks later, I went back to the condo and I assumed that they were going call me to come back to get their equipment.
And at this point in time, by the way, I didn't know there was a difference between ADT and Defenders. And apparently, the way this works, I’ve now learned this is ADT and then ADT contacts whoever their regional representative is in a territory, and they install it. And they take it for the first 30 or 60 days, and then they turn it over to ADT. But again, I didn't know that at the time, so I was only dealing with ADT. So, I called ADT and said, “I never got this contract that I was supposed to get. And I called and they said that it was terminated. No one has ever come to get this equipment, and it’s kind of in the way. It’s on the wall and stuff.” And they said, “Let us switch you to this other person.” So, they switched me to this other person. I’ve been assuming that was Defenders.
And Defenders looked at it and said, “The contract’s in place and you owe us money. You gotta pay for this. There's no way to terminate it.” I said, “Wait a minute.” I told them the story, went back and forth with them, and they were, quite honestly, not particularly helpful about the circumstances. And so, I asked to speak to a supervisor, which I did. And when I got the supervisor, she looked at the policy, went, “Huh. Yeah. It doesn’t look like we ever sent you your contract. It looks like we’ve got a bad email address.” I said, “Okay.” I didn't ask whose email it went to, but she just said it was bad. She said, “Give me your email address again. I’m also gonna mail it to you.” And I said, “Look. You mail it to me, make sure you mail it to my house,” because it’s during the COVID stuff. And she said, “Okay. Just be looking for it.” So, seemed like we were back on track.
I waited and waited and nothing showed up. So, I called back and said, “Hey, I never got anything.” And I was talking to the ADT people, and the ADT people said, “You need to take that up with Defenders.” And when I talked to Defenders, again, not very helpful, and basically said, “Sorry, nothing we can do.” And so, I called back to ADT.
And every time I made these phone calls, I don’t know how to reach Defenders, so I’m calling a number and it’s ADT, and ADT switching me to them. I’m literally on the phone sometimes for an hour, maybe an hour and a half, on hold, then transferred between people. It almost feels like by design, it’s very difficult. They make it very difficult on you to solve a problem. So, I get shifted to the ADT person who reads all my records and goes, “Yeah. You called like within three days. I don’t know what the deal is. And so, let us shift you back to Defenders.” And that’s when I figured out this difference. And Defenders got on the phone, said, “You'd have to give us something in writing in three days.” I said, “Yeah. I know, but I was told that it would be coming and it never did.” And they said, “You don’t have to wait. You can just send us something.” I said, “Yeah. But no one told me that. I didn’t get a contract. There's nothing, all right?”
And they said, “You didn't send anything. And so, sorry, there's nothing we can do.” And so, “Let me talk to your supervisor.” I talked with the supervisor, and the supervisor said, “Look. You should’ve just sent us something in writing. And by the way, did you get the person’s name you spoke to on that Tuesday when you first called?” I said, “No. They told me there wasn’t a contract." I didn't know that I needed to take their name, rank, and serial number when they gave me the answers that I thought was consistent with the behavior that we all discussed this Saturday.
And it kinda deteriorated from there until my last phone call with ADT and Defenders last week. I had them both on the phone. They were pointing a finger at each other. Basically, ADT is saying, “We can’t do anything. Defenders has to…” And Defenders are saying, “We didn't get the three-day notice, so we can’t do anything. You’re gonna have to take it up with ADT.” And I said, “Okay. I want you both on the phone.” So, when I was talking to Defenders, I got the ADT person on the phone. And both of them kinda said, “We can’t help you. You’re just gonna have to send in a complaint,” which was like, “Okay.”
I’ve literally spent hours at this point on the telephone. I’ve done everything that was required of me at every step of the way. I’ve taken every instruction. And to this day, the system is still here. They're charging me for it. They haven't given me my money back. I didn't want it. I told them I didn't want it the moment it showed up because the price changed. They installed it anyway, and no one is willing to solve this problem. So, I wrote a letter that outlined all this. Someone called from ADT the day I wrote the letter and said, “Look, I’m gonna get back to you in 24 to 48 hours and we’re gonna get this straightened out.” I was very appreciative of that. Although so far, every time I’ve talked to ADT, they have been willing to solve the problem, but they keep sending it back to Defenders. And I can tell Defenders is not willing to solve the problem.
I don’t know whether this is by design, that it’s a black hat/white hat thing going on, where ADT says, “Hey, we’re gonna hire you guys, Defenders. You’ll take all the slings and arrows so we can keep our image clean,” or if there genuinely is this level of disconnection in the system. But either way, I’m not a satisfied customer. ADT has been very pleasant. They have taken my phone calls. While they put me on hold for a long time every time we’ve gone through it, they sound as though they're trying to fix the problem. It’s just that it’s not fixed.

I had my payments lowered some months ago and I keep them for the convenience. I don't feel like going through another contract and hearing another person's sales pitch. It's cheaper than the other services and it's a well-known name as well. Sometimes though, I have to turn off the sound on the unit because it beeps throughout the entire night. My best friend also has a more upgraded wall mount and I wanted to upgrade mine because it's ugly. They were going to charge me too much and that was silly, so we just kept the ugly white one.

setting up our account with them went okay. There was a bit of a sales pitch but we knew about that. Still, we could've done without it since we knew what we wanted and I explained to their reps that we had ADT before. Other than that, we got our account through the promo and they left without giving me the remote control which I was told we would get. As soon as they left, I noticed it wasn't here and I called them about it that same day. They said that they were gonna drop it off or come by, but it hasn't occurred yet. So, I'm still waiting for that and it has been a month and a half.
They told us that we don't need the remote control because we can use our phone. But I explained to them why we use it. We don't give everybody our code and we don't wanna be bothered in changing the code because somebody came and visit. So, when our children come to visit, we just give them the remote and they have to leave it when they leave.

The quality, in relation to its cost, is adequate and fair.

I thought what ADT was offering for the equipment and everything was less than everyone else. But when they came to install it, it turned out to be a whole another story. I'm not too happy with that part of it. The service is good, but it's rather expensive. When I talked to them on the phone, I had been told that everything was gonna be covered. I had an $850 credit for equipment and I ended up paying $1200 worth of equipment. It's like I need it. But the customer service was good ‘cause I called them today and I had some questions.
The installation was great although the installers took a bit long. They did it on a Friday. The guy was supposed to come back on Monday to install the fire switch and the smoke detectors and he hasn't come back yet. Then I almost think that they kinda trick you into getting the system with the whole, “Oh, you've got this credit.” And then, when you get there, they would say that your home really needs a lot more. They need to be upfront on the cost and that’s what needs improvement.

We had ADT at our house that we had before this one. I looked at reviews to see if anything else was better and ADT was still coming up as the best. Their rep was great and he knew what he was doing. He gave us all of the options and then we reviewed things and went from there. We already knew what we wanted, so everything went good. So far, the system is good. But I don't like that the camera doesn't record all time. You only get a certain amount of storage on your cameras and it only records when you have a motion. I've gotten one in my office with another company and theirs do record all the time. So I'm worried that if something happens and we don't have it recorded in our ADT system.

Everybody has a different system so I researched between people that already have a service and ADT came out to be the best one. I remembered my friend had said he liked his system so I called and asked what system he had. He told me it was ADT and that's why I put them on the list. I called ADT late at night and then the next morning, instantly, somebody called me. That's when we talked about everything and the sales representative was good. She was very smart. She gave me insight on everything and told me that it would be explained better when the technician came out. She also told me some things I didn't know about the company. So that made it even better.
Then the technician came out and he was awesome. I've never seen anything like that. He was great at his job. He was able to explain everything. It was like a class first to tell you what everything can do and what you need. I've had a home for a long time and different security systems but I've never had anybody sit down and go over each portion of the house and why you need certain things. That was incredible. I don't know if I was just special but hopefully, that's what they do with everyone. The whole experience was pretty good. We went through with it and saw what best suits me. We focused on everything that I told them I wanted secured. There were a couple of things that I didn't really need – the little cute stuff like the door locks. So instead of getting things like that, I just got other things like the smoke detectors. I've even already told my other kids – to go with ADT when their Vivint contract runs out.

My parents had ADT so I’m pretty familiar with them. Getting my first home, first thing is safety and ADT was the first company that popped in my head. The installation guy was really cool and down to earth. It was definitely all about giving me the best protection. He wasn’t necessarily selling me the product or the most expensive package. He was more so letting me know what I needed. He tailored everything for me and it made me feel important. I plan on potentially getting some outdoor cameras.
I’m pretty much satisfactory with everything. I’m always remotely locking my home, turning lights on with a click of a button. I really love that. When I was younger, everything had to be done manually or via a certain few feet from the home. I was in Georgia a few weeks back and I was checking my home, I turned the light on and tried to let people know I was home, but I really wasn’t but I was constantly checking it. I always felt protected with it. Overall, ADT is a very professional service.

I could tell she was reading from something though. Her knowledge was mostly about the process, more than anything. The installation team did a great job. They were very professional. I've had some issues with things being disconnecting. One of the things that I would like to be better would be the access to manage my devices. In the app, it doesn't work. ADT has been around for a longer time as opposed to some other companies. The sale seemed to go okay. I kind of assumed that the most I would be spending based on the package that I was getting was gonna be like I would get a maximum of $850 worth of equipment, and then they would look and see if I needed anything additional. The person online did a decent job, for the most part, explaining things. But then when the installation occurred and the gentleman came out, it was kind of a different ballgame.
They interrogate you in a way where they make you feel insecure. They go through your house and they say, “Well, this is where the burglar can get you here, and this is where the burglar can get you there.” Beforehand, I was not really too concerned about that, but then all of a sudden, it was like, “Wow, I really don’t feel safe in my home.” It felt like an intimidation factor to purchase more things. At that point, I felt that there was a gentleman in my home that I don’t know pinpointing all these places, that if I don’t buy him, I don’t get the security system that he’s referring to, that I’m vulnerable and he knows how to get in. He was a nice gentleman. He stayed in my house a lot longer than I expected. We ended up spending an additional $1,000 more in equipment from that reason alone because, “Oh, you need this, this, and you need that.” We got the premium package, which was $60 a month, and I had to spend $1,000 additional to get it.
We did have some challenges with the system trying to install the video camera doorbells. My home was not wired correctly for it. So, then we had to revamp it again, and that cost me having to get an electrician to come out, wire it the right away, and for them to come back. We tried reaching ADT’s customer service line, and it was somewhat confirmed by the supervisor after the fact that there is nobody there to help us, that they’re all working from home, and nobody could escalate someone with a decision-making factor to help us with my concerns.
My concerns were on the day they were coming back, the supervisor brought five people with him, did not ask me for permission, walked to my house up to my door with no masks on, entered my home and said, “Can we come in?” I’m said, “Why do we have so many people for this job?” “Well, these are trainees, and there’s a supervisor too. And you have a unique system, an older system in your home, so we wanna show them how to do it.” I had five men in my house, I was by myself, and it made me extremely uncomfortable. They’re all walks of life. I don’t know what their background is. I don’t know what their name is. I see badges, but I don’t know any details on these people, and they’re in my house. The supervisor and the gentleman who installed my initial install had to run to Home Depot to get a part.
The supervisor left them in my home and asked them to do an audit on my home for training purposes. So, there were three men in my house walking through my home going through my house a second time and pinpointing areas and saying that I probably should have more security on this window and a glass break on that window. I was really pissed, and my anxiety was really high. I was kind of in a mindset of just, “Get back here so these guys can leave so that I have this whole experience over with.” They all came in different cars. They didn’t come in marked ADT cars. They came in their own personal vehicles. It just is not a secure way to handle business, as far as I’m concerned. From a national company that’s nationally recognized, it just didn’t feel right.
After they left, the job was still not complete because they noticed I had to hire this electrician. My husband was livid that happened. He went as far as to go up the corporate ladder and try and get someone on the phone and file complaints. There was absolutely nobody that would actually help us. They, at one point, put me on hold for 45 minutes while they called the supervisor to get an explanation as to what the installer did wrong in my home because the customer was upset. I was pretty unhappy. At this point, ADT's in my house and the contract’s been signed. At one point, I was like, “Cancel this. And I’m gonna file a complaint,” because it was handled so inappropriately, especially in the middle of a pandemic. There needs to be some form of a protocol. There needs to be ethics that the company adheres to with everything going on because security is what they do for a living.
In a nutshell, ADT does not have the level of compensation that I want. I would really have appreciated if someone could have said to me, “Ma’am, we’re gonna give you credit for that equipment that we just did because of what we put you through for the past two weeks” or “Here’s a couple of free months of your bill.” l lost two hours on a phone call and my husband lost another hour on a phone call trying to get someone to help us out.

The sales part was not good. I spent a lot of time on the call, initially, with two different people. The first one was from when I called the 800 number and they pitched me a bunch of stuff. Then they talked to their manager and the manager came in with a special deal just for me. It’s frustrating that I spent so much time on the phone with them and then when the installer came out here, he had no idea what that conversation was. So it didn’t matter because there was no communication between the technician and the salesperson. It was all out the window. I was moving so I had a lot of other stuff going on and I couldn’t find the piece of paper I had taken the notes with during my initial sales call. So it wasn’t what I expected at all. But I’m sure that happens all the time because it seems like it was pretty routine from the way the guy was talking about it.
The service is okay and the equipment is decent. But there is probably better stuff. For example, I know there are smaller window alarm things that are more modern looking and not as bulky. I got the older version and for what I’m paying, it’s not satisfying. The price is kind of average as far as every other place but it's more than what I wanted and expected to pay, especially from the initial sales call.

However, compared to some of the other companies in terms of product, they could be a little bit more updated in terms of their panels, options, and the camera. When we wanted to do the upgrade, it took us about four calls to get our order done and to have somebody come in and install. We had three different quotes done and by three different people and every time we had to start over again. There was a lack of communication but you also have to take into consideration the pandemic and everybody working at home. Everything else was perfect.
We had an issue with our new install and we weren't able to resolve the issue over the phone. We’ve spent more than an hour on the phone with the techs trying to make sure everything was okay, but we weren’t able to do so. But then, they didn't tell me that in the beginning. Also, they told my wife they would give us $100 but she didn't receive it.

I used to have ADT back prior to this house and the package back then was good so when I switched back to ADT, I got a starter. But once I was with the company, the service was not up to what you’re supposed to have. Other than that, the sales rep was more than what I was expecting. I was expecting a nice person, but he was more than that. He was all kind, he explained to me details and he helped out in so many ways. The installer did a great job as well.

When we first went to ADT, I didn't have a problem because I've seen their advertisement for the whole price. But I wouldn't go to them again. For one thing, every time I turn around, I had to call them. Right now, I don't need to deal with their crap. They kept saying my bill would be 53. I said that I signed the papers and it was 27.99. I wanted to hear their boss. I ended up paying it and I thought somebody would call me back. Then they said 27. They also took 100 and some dollars out of my checking account in which they weren't supposed to. I talked with Debbie, the supervisor, and she got it straightened out. She said she'll credit my account.
The credit should be over every time I get a bill or when it comes out of account, it's not supposed to come out. I wish I could drop the contract because of what they put me through. I don't have the patience to do this but mine’s already got messed up. I ended up breaking a TV cabinet over it and I couldn't do it anymore. So nothing's going right. I would like to have it shut off, I don't have the money for the contract fee. I'm not satisfied with them at all. I would like them to keep my price where it was supposed to be. They told me a different price.

The system is okay, but I’m not happy right now because I have a couple of windows that have to be repaired.

ADT was the first provider I saw and it had a pretty high rating, so I went with it. The very first person I talked to in customer service when they were setting up the thing told me everything I needed to know. I said I just wanted the basics and she said they have a promotion where there's a free setup and installation if you just get the very basic. I also wanted it for the home insurance discount and she answered, “Okay. Well, if that’s all you’ll get, it won’t cost you anything out-of-pocket, just the whatever, setup, or installation, or whatever service call, whatever fee it was.” It was 89 bucks or something like that. I had no issue with that. But then when we get to the service part, that’s where it went downhill really quickly.
The technician was an hour late. I called ADT, and nobody could find out where he was. He finally called me back after about an hour and a half. Then he wanted me to come back to where we were supposed to meet. And he said, “I’m really good at what I do. It won’t take me long.” And so, I was like, “All right. I’ll meet you back over there.” He came back and was here for two hours trying to sell me stuff. When he walked in the door I said, “Hey, she said it won’t cost me anything except for the fee I’ve already paid. And all I need is the basic stuff and the discount on the home insurance.” He said, “I understand that.”
But then he walks around the house, looks at everything and then he starts trying to sell me glass break stuff for all my windows. He started out at $1,400 and I said, “I told you I just needed the basic.” So, then he cut it in half. I said, “I can’t come out-of-pocket with anything right now.” So, then he brings some more stuff off, 300 bucks. I said, “The lady said it will not cost me anything out-of-pocket when you come here today.” He said, “Well, I don’t know who told you that, but they’re crazy because that’s now how it’s gonna be.” So I answered, “Well, then I don’t need anything.”
He did some more stuff on that iPad and said, "Magically, nothing out-of-pocket today." He got the system in and showed me how it worked, and it’s very simple. I understand it. But that technician made this experience where I wouldn’t recommend ADT to anybody else. They also didn’t leave any signs in the yard saying it’s protected by ADT either. But when it comes to the system I had no problems with it. I use my apps on it. The kids can even use the app on it to turn off the system. It’s very easy to navigate. Also sales and everybody I’ve talked to on the phone has been great and easy to understand.

The salesperson transferred me to a manager to give me some additional credits which was nice. The person who installed the system was a family friend that we haven’t seen in a long time. We probably spent more of his time than he was expecting. Ultimately, it all worked out pretty easily. It took a little bit longer than expected, but it still wasn’t bad. The system is good. My only complaint is the price. I got something in the mail two days after I installed that was a much better deal than what I’m paying. I have it on my to-do list to call in and figure out why I’m paying so much more than what was being advertised to me.

When I moved in, there was equipment from AT&T, and when I called, it automatically sent me to ADT. They took over the AT&T accounts and when a tech came, he said they couldn’t use any of the equipment that was already here. It was all wasted and I had to buy all new stuff. I feel like somehow they could use the cameras here and it’s frustrating. It’d be nice to use some mounted cameras that are already hardwired all through. Still, my salesman and the installer were great. Installation took a couple hours. The guy put in all the sensors (including the one for glass), the camera, the two-door key code thing and then two panels because I have one from my room. He went through everything with me as well.

The sales representative explained everything. It was just more of the installation where I had problems with and people were not showing up for the appointment. They kept on rescheduling it out and they canceled on me three times. The whole package deal could have been improved. I felt like it was a laugh from the beginning because I moved into my home when I received through the mail saying I could get $800 package deal, and when ADT came out, it came up to $1,900. It was like a fraudulent advertisement.

I’ve had ADT for years. I’ve had a couple issues and they have taken care of them. The sensor was not working properly and they came out and replaced the battery. Just the other day, we added the camera to the system and the gentleman came out and did a nice job getting the camera installed and set up for us. The only thing I wish is they have a newer model of the control panel and the newer camera works off of Wi-Fi instead of off of RF signals, and I’d like to get that free. But other than that, everything seems to be fine. All of the sensors are wireless so they don’t have to run wires or do anything. The actual system itself is pretty easy to arm and disarm.

I got the system of ADT because we’ve had a lot of attempts of break-ins in my neighbors’ houses. What was going on was that whenever they have the police come, they don’t wanna file a report. They won’t do it. So, I figured if I get the ADT system, then that’s gonna send an alert to the police station. They're gonna have to come out and they're gonna have to take a report. Everybody’s been great at ADT. The installation was nice. The gentleman was very nice, polite and very pleasant to talk to. He explained everything as he went through doing everything step-by-step. It was a really great experience.
However, the way they have the system set up, they would have to crack the door before the system goes off. I have my own detectors, monitors that I put on my doors and my windows. What I did was I moved one, about a half-inch behind the one that I placed on the door. ‘Cause we got two. We got one that has the battery in it, then we had the other one that’s supposed to line up with it. The reason why I set it back a half-inch, not a whole half-inch, was that if that door moves, that system goes off.
It’s not sensitive enough. It’s supposed to be penetration, but the penetration that ADT has set on people’s houses, we don’t have time to get to that room with our gun. That person is in the house. If he raises the window up, breaks the window frame, he’s gonna be in there by the time I get there. They need to move that monitor back, move the bottom one forward so that as soon as that door starts coming open a half-inch, that system goes off. They need to move it forward instead of waiting on the person to get into the house versus just alert us as soon as they're attempting to get in the house. I wouldn’t recommend ADT. If they can make that adjustment on my sensors, I’d be very happy ‘cause that’s my only problem.

Hopefully, my dogs will be safe. The reason I wanted the system and this all started was for the fire. The call goes on right to the police station and having the animals, I want them saved. That’s my number one priority. It’s always been something nagging me in the back of my mind. I tell all the neighbors to break the windows and that I don’t care what they would have to do but to get the animals out. That’s all I care about. As long as the dogs are out, I don’t care about the house. Everything else is replaceable. I initially filled out the questionnaire thing and I called the company then I set up the appointment. They came here and talked with the installer guy. But I asked them to hold on and I got the answers to my questions before we did anything.
The installation also went well. We went through the different options and what would work best, what I wanted and what I didn't. I had to change it up for the dogs, as far as the motion cameras although I really wish to have the camera inside the home. In case the alarm does go off, I can see it. But it's just wishful thinking. Having bigger dogs, I understand why. I think it's almost impossible but the technology keeps getting better. There may be a way someday. For this installation, we went with a glass break instead. The guy installed the system and was on his way. It was easy to set up everything. The biggest thing is to remember when you're coming in the door. Yesterday, I left my phone in the car and the system started beeping. I ran back to my car, grabbed the phone and disarmed the system, and it was fine.

I wanted a live stream on my phone with cameras or something I could access. When I'm not home, I make sure everything's safe. I called and I instantly explained to the first person why I was calling. I have a creepy neighbor and he’s been talked to about stalking. I need more security. The guy said that they had an $850 promotion going on. I tried to get it done as quickly as possible. The day they had available wasn't working so he put me on the phone with a manager, and the manager was great. I told him my situation that I was mostly interested in cameras and he said that he'd put a credit on my account for equipment for $1100. However, when the tech came out on a Saturday, he went over the $850 promotion, which I figured may not include cameras. He also said that the credit doesn't even include any camera kind of purchase.
That Thursday before, I called to make sure I had everything on my end squared away and I understood things. I double-checked when I had called that the 27.99 a month included the live stream on the phone. The tech said no, and that instantly puts it at the 59.99. I should have never been told that. So, it wasn’t the best, to be quite honest. But we worked everything out. The tech ended up calling his manager. He was able to use the credit towards the cameras because I wanted to get more cameras and more smoke detectors and stuff. Also, my house is an older home so it was not easy to set up because I don't have vinyl, so they couldn't put the wiring under my house’s wood. Luckily, it's white and it was worked out.
It was just miscommunication. I felt like the people I talked to on the phone really said to me a whole bunch of stuff and then the tech kinda got stuck in a moment where he was like, “Oh my gosh, what?” So, he did everything he could. But I wasn't expecting the 59 a month. It was, from what I understood, 27.99. And just from the very beginning, I was very clear about my main goal is cameras. If I would have known prior, I might have rethought it. Everything else is great. It's something I want but that's like the extra. The cameras were the main thing. Everybody was super-friendly.
Hello Holli. Thank you for sharing your experience with us and we are very sorry for the frustrating concerns. We will review this with the installation company so we can assure your concerns with that phone call are addressed and any coaching opportunities are taken care of as well. So, a different technician came out once we were able to make the decision a little bit later that day. My husband ended up being in the house during that. The technician did a fairly basic, like how to work the system. But because I wasn’t there and my husband wasn’t able to communicate, I called the manager in the area and asked if he could come out. We had an issue with one of the sensors. It was a little far from our modem. He came out and explained the whole system. He answered any questions we had so it was very well done. ADT sent someone to my house to talk to me. They showed me all of my options and installed everything. Since then, the best part has been when their team guesses that my alarm has gone off because of something I've done. They don't automatically call the police. For instance, when I put air conditioners in, I had to move one of their sensors. I set the alarm, went to bed and was fast asleep. I did not even hear it go off nor did I have my phone with me. They tried to call but they never sent the police for that. Plus, ADT's price has been reasonable at 52-something a month. They raised it one time and I called them. Then, the reps moved my price back down to where it was at on my original plan which was the same amount I've been paying for three years. I feel really secure in having ADT.

My home has been in this neighborhood for close to 100 years. I was literally born in this home. I'll be 66 this year. We could be with our doors open. And just within the past, maybe a bit before I put the system on, like, two weeks prior to that, we saw a lot of activity going on from 12:15 to about 2:30 in the morning. And of course, we would go out. The next door neighbors would go out. The front door neighbors would go out, just to let them know that we're watching them. But the thing is that I told my husband, "We go outside, we don't know they're gonna have a gun, they're gonna shoot us."
I just finished calling the officers right now. And I said, "There's two guys walking down the street. There's a lot of activity going on. They're passing by with compressors or weed eaters." So, one is looking on one side, the other one is looking at the other side. And they're hoping to see what they will hit or when they will hit or what they will do. It just doesn't feel good. That is when I said, "That's it."
I noticed a couple of things missing. The side from the front and the front from the front towards where the house again are wide open. I have privacy fence all the way to the back. And then on the other side, my nextdoor neighbor has a chainlink. So, I've never felt like I needed a fence because I could be sitting here with my doors open. I felt safe. But now, I don't. So, every time I left the house, I was worried.
My daughter was telling me, "Why don't you do the cameras, mom, like that you can take a pic?" I said, "Well, I can barely afford this." She said, "Mom, they have specials. Just call them. Maybe they can help you to set you up with a camera." Because it so happened that my front door neighbor, somebody passed. There's a lot of activity going on that we never had before. They broke her window from the passenger side and the passenger side window and the mirror. They passed by, and they hit it with a BB gun. I said, "If I had a camera, we would have gotten the vehicle and everything." This is all new to me. I'm not used to this. We always had little things happen, but we all keep an eye on each other. If anything, I would have to buy a camera and install Brinks or whatever that you just put them on yourself and be on the phone and look at what is going on.
I was sitting outside and I kept seeing people passing by and then you could tell they're on all those drugs and stuff. So, I said no. That's when I saw Protect My Home's Ad on Facebook and I called. I know they're top-of-the-line. And then, it so happened that it was perfect timing because there was a special because of COVID. It was godsent. I'm really satisfied with the gentleman's explanation who came with the installing. It took me a bit to get to understand it, but I'm almost where I need to be as far as disarming, arming, and staying. Customer service have been very patient and very detailed. So, I really appreciate that.
The only thing that happened was, a couple of days ago, I was trying to get something from the top of the refrigerator. We're seniors, and my hands are weak. I have a fractured rib that has been a permanent thing. So, when I was going to grab that thing, it fell, and the little casing fell off, and the alarm went off. Of course, I came and disarmed it right away, and I called in. They were able to walk me except that I said, "You know what, I don't know if this is gonna work. I have to get up the ladder to climb to take off the battery, restart it. And then I didn't know how to put the lid back on." I have to go up and down the ladder because the alarm would go off. But we've been it long time. I live in Bath. As far as customer service, right away. I'm very satisfied with everything except that.
My daughters all have the systems as well. I said, it's not something that we can really afford but it's something that I feel that we need. It's more a necessity than a luxury because of the situation that's going on right now. Even though we're all neighbors, but sometimes some of us wanna travel and I go to the store and we go and work, like, "Okay, is somebody going to break in?" The system gives me peace of mind.

I chose ADT based on their reputation in the marketplace and although there is definitely a handful of things that I wish the system did, at least it does what it's supposed to do. I also got a good education while the salesperson was here. Austin was the one who came to our house and he was great. I had a good experience over the phone as well. But they were a bit limited in what they could tell me and questions they could answer. I understand part of that is by design. Until someone gets to my house, they can't really know exactly what I'm gonna need. I've had a great experience but I have to imagine there's a way to get more information over the phone before the salesperson comes out to the house. That could have been helpful. I would have been more prepared.
After the salesperson walked into my house and told me all the stuff that he recommended, my jaw hit the floor when he told me how much it was gonna cost. It was a total surprise. I was not at all expecting that based on the phone conversation I had. They told me they're gonna give me all these hundreds of dollars’ worth of credit to equipment. They didn't tell me that every single little device cost hundreds of dollars. That could have been a little more transparent. I understand why they might not wanna do that. They would wait until the sales rep in the house can actually show all the benefits and everything of what everything does. But while they were here, my wife and I had to go off and have a little financial meeting to see if this was gonna make sense at all. It very closely could have resulted into the salesperson wasting three hours of his time.

When the tech came in, he said that was gonna be about three grand. I said that that was not what I was told. All I have is the control box itself and seven window breaks for if the window opens. I was lied to and didn’t get what I was told that I was going to get for 850 bucks. They need to do what they say they’re going to do, instead of lying about it. Someone had to try to come back and fix that. While the system is better than it was, it's still not programmed properly.

The ADT sales rep was excellent. He explained everything and was very helpful. The installation was great. The installer was very awesome and I will recommend him to anybody. It's just me and Kelvin here. The neighborhood that we stay in is not all that bad, but it's not all that great either. We sleep better at night knowing that if somebody tries to come in that the alarm would go off and send help in case we can't make it to our phone in time. I was told my cousins about ADT and they're gonna sign up.

The previous owner of the home that I own now had ADT and a few of my family members have ADT and suggested it. So I looked into it and ended up getting their system. When I was working with the guy who came to install it, he was able to work with me on what I wanted and it didn't seem to be a big issue in any way. He was really making sure that the things I wanted and what he thought as far as protection-wise is what would work best for the situation for the house. He did what he needed to do and I was able to focus on my work.

Somebody sent me an email. It sounded like a good deal, so I called ADT. They set up an appointment and the sales rep was very nice, very patient and very helpful in explaining how to use stuff. I was happy with him. The system is doing everything that I needed it to do. I use the app more than I do the remote. It's just easier.

I had ADT and I was going to get rid of it, but the sales rep talked me into it over the phone. He was very knowledgeable, knew what he was talking about and told me exactly what I was going to be getting. A very nice guy did the installation. He went around and checked everything. He also gave me few extra batteries just in case -- the batteries are expensive to buy. I like the system and it does a nice job. I like the doorbell cameras. I like to be able to see who is out there and scare the heck out of somebody when I can get to talk to them. I also use the smartphone app. Overall, ADT is working out fine. I wish it was a little bit cheaper though. When you get retired and you don't have the money, you have to save anything.

ADT was inaccurate. It didn't say that it was the wireless service. That was what the technician was telling me that the price was based on a landline which wasn't the wireless service. But ADT has the quickest response time and I talked with the technician over the phone. Ackerman has one facility in Georgia and ADT has eight facilities in Georgia. There's no comparison with the customer service between these two companies. You can't even get a hold of Ackerman's customer service representative. It's pretty much impossible.
I knew ADT was gonna be a little bit more expensive, but last year, Ackerman updated something with their system, and they double debited my account twice, a month from each other. I called them up and I told them that I wanted to go to manual billing, then they still have me on automatic debit. I ended up having to cancel that card and just go to manual billing. Also, I couldn't talk to anybody. With ADT, you call on the phone and you can pretty much get someone in under 10 minutes.

My sister had ADT. I have it too and it's probably been two years. The installation was good and there were no issues. I like the security. I like the fact that if anything happens, I get a phone call telling me something. It’s showing up something and it could tell me exactly where. I really like the phone app too. It's pretty easy to use. The system is fine but it's not activated. I have renovations being done and I had water damage. Until that is finished, they’re not gonna reach out back to ADT and have them come back in.

With every little thing that happens, ADT contacts me right away and the police is here right away. Their reps work great with me. Right now, I’m not working and I talked to them about how I can stay with ADT. My contract was over this month and they gave me a good price. When the guy put in the system, he gave me a controller. I love it. I go to work early and my door in the house is on the side, not in the front. If anything happens, I know I can press the button. My son got ADT for his business and his house. He always kept it and me, “Don’t jump to another company because you know what you have.”

I had ADT at my previous location. This time, I got it again and the installation went okay although there were some programming and some delays in getting it set up. It’s just with compatibility or something in terms of the existing system in the home and the system that was being put in. It wasn’t from scratch kinda situation. It was just come in and dump all of ADT stuff in there. It was adapting it with other existing technology and elements.
We’ve had security systems before so all elements are pretty much the same. This is the first time we’ve had the door camera. That would be the thing that’s different and most helpful at this point. With the app, we’re probably sub-optimizing it at this point. But if someone comes to the door, we can see them and talk to them.

Once I called Protect Your Home and let them know I was interested, they had some very knowledgeable people call me back and they answered all my questions. The functionality is fine and there were only a couple of things that I wasn't really pleased with. They came through the back wall to wire the camera in the back. It wasn't a very pretty job. However, we covered it up with some furniture and it was fine. I had an issue interacting with my device. I called the young man who did the installation and he talked me through it. I said, "Duh, I should have been able to figure that one out." We got it taken care of and haven't had a problem since.

Our ADT system has been working pretty well. In the afternoon we take the dogs for a little ride around town. We have an RV and we used to take off for five days in the weekends. That’s one reason we wanted the ADT, so we could put the alarm on our house and be gone and not have to worry about it. If the alarm did go off, my neighbors would hear it and they had keys if it was a false alarm. We’ve got the wires connected to electricals to all the windows. If somebody opens one of the windows, the alarm goes off. If the back door gets opened, the alarm will go off. If somebody is walking up to the patio in the back, the alarm will go off ‘cause there’s an eye out in the front and there’s also one in the back.
We upgraded and put this camera. It’s an alarm on our front door. We get the app on our phone and it’s called Ring. We'll hear ding-aling-aling, like a high, shrill wave. We look at our phone and we see somebody walking up to the front door. Sometimes, they’re just bringing us mail or a package, or it might be one of my kids dropping off something.

ADT promised so many things that they did not complete. When I talk to their reps on the phone, they explain things and promise this and that. When they send my order in to the guy who is gonna install my service, things were totally different. The tech came and he installed little things in my doors. But then he didn't have the right equipment. When I talked to him, I got a feeling that he didn't know much. He only does whatever his training was and only follows instructions. He did his best but he didn't have experience. Now, my doors are still making noise improperly so I need to call him back.
I came to pay double the price that they promised. I asked their rep how we were gonna do my payment. He didn't care and just did whatever he wanted. I told him I don't want them putting my money somewhere every month without telling me. I'm paying too much for the service. Still, ADT's service is fine. The issue is not with the company but the subcontractors that they have. If I recommend them, I would tell others to make sure of what they're signing.

I got lots of extra benefits such as being able to use their remote. ADT has provided excellent customer service thus far.

Below is the complaint I put in to ADT: There has been dishonesty and horrible customer service since the start of having your service. The initial technician misstated the capabilities of the cameras that were installed which were a big factor in me signing with you guys. He came on many occasions; a few times that weren’t registered with the company because he told me to text him personally if I had any issues which I learned after was against company policy.
I wanted to return the camera for the living room and get a credit for what I paid for it because it didn’t constantly record (which is what the technician told me it did) they said they can’t give me a credit on the camera because I got a package promotional deal however on the initial pricing layout (that he showed me before I signed the contract) the camera had a cost next to it of $299.99. I wasn’t happy that the technician mislead me and wanted to cancel my contract because I wasn’t satisfied however that’s when they told me the money back guarantee was only if adt couldnt “have their own equipment working properly” and said it would cost me over $1000 to cancel the contract. This was one of the most horrible experiences that I’ve had with a company and was lied to throughout the whole process.
For a majority is the time customer service has been rude, unhelpful and ill informed. I always hear something different from each representative. The most recent example was today when I had called to get a service call fee waived. I wanted it waived because the initial technician didn’t install a sensor on a window that he was supposed to and put a sensor in a bad spot on my sliding door which broke off after I would open the door a certain distance. The First Lady that I Called to set up the appointment to fix these issues said waiving the fee would be no problem and that the technician would have to waive it.
Once the technician finished his work he said he couldn’t waive the fee and I would have to call customer service. When I called customer service today they said that she asked who told me that it could be waived because these service fees cannot be waived and are a co-pay for everytime a technician comes out even if the equipment is faulty which is not what I was initially told; I was told they maintain the equipment for free. She said she would waive it as a one time courtesy. I’ve been lied to from the start and signed a contract for three years based on those lies. In addition I’ve had horrible customer service and am going to continue to post negative reviews and tell people my horrible experience with your company.

I found ADT on the mail flyer that went out and when I spoke with their rep, she said they were part of ADT South, which was why there was a difference in pricing. She said they were giving $1,800 in free credits and that we got the USAA discount which was 10%. They gave us 10% off of the products but not 10% off of the monthly bill like ADT directly does. So, it’s only $5 a month. It’s still $180 the life of our contract. We were supposed to be spending $1,000 in putting the equipment in with regular ADT and it would’ve been the exact same price if we would’ve kept it with ADT direct. We had actually set up to go directly with them and they were supposed to come out last week. I wouldn’t recommend the person I spoke with again because a lot of stuff was very deceiving after I had time to think about it. Once our 36-month contract is done, I’m gonna call ADT directly and just work through them.

We have kids going through the neighborhood grabbing door handles on vehicles and I've gotten them on video. Plus, I'm gone overnight sometimes. I talked to an ADT rep and it went good. But I was told a certain price and when the technician came out, it was completely a different price. They told me that the only thing I had to pay is the installation which was $99 and that I had to get $100 for equipment. Everything that I talked with the salespeople about, to when I talked to the technician, was coming out to $1,000.
The tech talked to his supervisor and we came into the price, which was 300 bucks. I said it was okay and it still wound up to about a little more than 400. I was misled. If one tells me a price, I expect that price. If there's any additional, he should have told me about it. But I would've paid the additional just for the fact that the tech had it installed. But it is what it is and that's the only issue I had. It could have been just miscommunication of words. Other than that, everything else was fine. The technician was really good. Plus, we wanted to get the system anyway so we still paid more than what we were told. We're also happy with the system.

So, Protect Your Home couldn't do it because I already had a deal with ADT, but I couldn't get ADT to come out and do it. They're scheduling every day and they never show, and it took two weeks. I finally got ADT and the unfortunate part was every day, someone was breaking into my parents’ house. They initially broke into my house and they got my wife’s keys. It’s somebody that we know. Since we got Protect Your Home, they quit breaking into our house but last week, someone started trying to get into my email. The technician came out, looked at everything, and got ready to do the paperwork. We explained that my wife would be signing everything and the next day, they were calling me instead of her. I explained all of this to them. It's been the biggest fiasco since we started out with them. We were told one thing then when we got ready to do it, they couldn't do that. She had to call them. They finally got that straightened out but the bill comes in my name, which it shouldn't have. We were about fed up already. They still haven't got it right. They had done none of what they said they were gonna do. But the rep was great. He was very professional, courteous, and had a very pleasant personality. The installation was also flawless.
I'm not used to this alarm system and I've been social distancing myself but I do occasionally have to go out. When I came back, I botched up the alarm code. The alarm did go off. I called my wife and she told me what to do. I disarmed the system but I've yet to receive a phone call. I thought wasn't someone supposed to call and make sure that everything was okay. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe it's because I entered the right word in and disarmed it.

I was like, "Nah, that's not even worth it."
So I changed back to my other provider because I got a good deal and my ADT started working again. Now, I've had a yellow triangle. I got a thing in the mail from Protect Your Home for my father and I pursued that for myself. I found it to be okay but the customer service experience was awful. The girl hollered at me on the phone. She was talking over me and wasn't trying to hear what I had to say. She wouldn’t let me vent. The offer did say a free camera. However, when they came out, it wasn't a free camera after all and I had to pay $299. They gave me a credit for that but I ended up having to pay $84 for the camera. Overall, the cost is very okay. It’s 53.99 a month so you can't beat that. I have Vivint and my neighbor told me her car has been broken in five times so, I feel good about the decision I made.
Zach, the young guy who came the first time didn't put things back where he got them from. It was a mess and when I went downstairs, the blinds were still up. He left and didn't give me my sign. I had to call in to get it. There was something else he did and I didn't like him. Then, this other gentleman came and installed my camera and made sure everything was done. He made sure I got my sign and he brought me a sign too. So, I ended up with three signs. He told me what he was doing. Zach did his job and he upgraded me also and then, I upgraded again. I got the doorbell camera. I was told that it would be recording people walking up to your door. But people literally have to press the doorbell in order for it to work. It’s not a good thing because I've been watching the news and they showed people stealing their packages on the door. Mine didn't even record anything.
I come up to my door every day but there's no recording of it. So, I wonder why that is. I would like to see me coming. I know I can't see around that corner but when I get in front of the camera, I would like to see somebody is at the door. But the other day, I know this gentleman came to my door and he stuck his head and peeked. Then, he rang the doorbell but I couldn't even talk to him while he was at my door. He put the mail on my door and covered up my camera. If I had been able to talk to him, I might have been able to tell him not to do that and to move out of the way. I wasn't able to do that because the talk button didn't work properly.
I'm not impressed with it at all and it's no good especially when it doesn't tell you that you can talk. The option to talk did nothing and the guy was at the door. He rung it twice and I wasn't able to say anything. I'm kinda dissatisfied because I went through a lot to get the ring and then, it was not what I thought it was gonna be. The cost is good but that part could be better.

I liked some things that ADT offered. I didn't like the first rep that I talked to though. He was explaining everything to me and maybe I asked a question that he didn't understand what I was saying, so he said, "Well, you don't expect for us to pay for that, do you?" I said, "No. But I don't even know why you said that to me," so I hung up. I didn't want it. I went down the line, and for some reason, I was thinking I was calling another company and it rung back to ADT. The rep said, "Oh, thanks for calling back." I said, "Calling back? I didn't call back. Some reason, I just pushed a button and it got you."
I talked to the rep and she explained everything to me, but there are some things I'm not liking about it. One thing, the box is at my kitchen door, so a lot of times I don't use the kitchen door. I go out the front door. If I have it on, I can't hear it. It doesn't ring loud enough at the front door. I've had Comcast and I hear it. I asked ADT if they can make it any louder. The rep said no and I'm wondering why. It gotta be louder than that for me to go out my front door. I don't use my back. I don't like that. Also, the price was different. They quoted a different price initially. I was supposed to pay 198, and after this, I paid almost $400. I did get a extra camera, but that threw me off. I'm supposed to get $200 back but then when I called in, he said $100, but he was willing to give me the 200. They said I had to go online to get it. I don't know all about that. I haven't gotten it yet. As far as the system itself being put in, I can see the camera in the front yard and back. That part is good.

Then, it's gonna cost us for them to come out and fix something that they didn't do correctly in the first place and it's still not right. That kinda makes me mad when people do that. The ADT system is good. The person that got me set up was through Protect Your Home, and they were fine. But the person that came and did the work was horrible. I know that they're supposed to offer the highest-priced equipment first, which is understandable because that’s sales, but I kept telling him that was not what I was looking for. He kept having to call his supervisor for every little thing.
I don’t know if he wasn’t trained well, but he didn’t know what he was doing. Since I had an alarm system before, I felt that. But I didn’t wanna say anything. He kept making excuses every time I would ask a question versus telling him, “Well, I don’t see why you can’t do that.” He was telling me things like he couldn’t put the panel where it was supposed to go because he couldn’t find anywhere in the house that the panel would have to go. Where the back of your chair sits, it would have to be that low. He couldn’t put the camera on the outside. At first, I knew right away that he must be new. He kept trying to make it seem like he knew what he was talking about but didn’t.
They told me it would only take 4 to 5 hours to do setup. It took 2 days. I missed 3 hours of work the first day. The second day was my off day. He was here till 6 o’clock. I literally had to tell him, “It’s time for you to go. You wasted my whole day off.” It was such an inconvenience. His manager eventually had to come out and help him. Everything that I wanted, the manager did right away.

We have ADT at two locations, our business and our home. When we had to have something replaced that was not working at the one in our business, ADT's rep came out and our experience wasn’t good at first. It was a new system and I was telling him to pay for everything because we have metal framing around our doors and our wait area is black. And he was bringing ladders and he kept hitting them. He cut them all up but nobody ever did anything about it. He was a very not nice person and we were not happy with him.
Then, my husband called ADT and told them that the system still wasn’t working. They finally sent somebody out who was really nice. He knew exactly what was wrong and fixed it. Other than that, we really like the security system. We feel secure with it and it calls the sheriff's office. When the one at our business went off a few times from weird stuff like when a door was open for some reason, the system called the police station, so that's nice.

Everything with ADT has been good. My doorbell camera doesn’t work though. I let ADT know, and they gave me a different number to call but I haven’t called them yet. Other than that, I use the mobile app and it’s pretty good. And during the purchase, ADT's rep was fine. The installer set up the panel on everything, and then two days later, he came back and put all the contacts and put the lock in the door and the camera on the front.

We had just moved in the neighborhood and most of the people out here have ADT's signs. That's why we went with them. We rarely put the system on, but I'm satisfied.

My friend who lives in the same complex used a similar system and said she liked it. So, I looked for different options because she had Ring and I’ve seen a lot of stuff about Ring getting hacked and whatnot. I didn’t want to do that. When we lived back in Maine, I know my family and our neighbors used ADT. So, based on the research I did, it was the best option. The salesperson was really nice. He got me the best deal that he could, was really helpful installing it, made sure I understood how to use it, what was going on, and what it was doing. The system is very user-friendly and has a nice GUI interface.

I was unhappy when I called and talked to the representative because he was telling me things that the technician said as untrue and that they have to charge me. So I talked to the technician about that and he said there was nothing he could do about it and the representative had misspoke. I was a little perturbed on that. But the technician was great. Great customer service from the technician’s standpoint. He explained everything that even I could understand. I had the system for the last 15 years in California before moving to Washington State. It was easy to operate and there was quick response if anything happened. Functionality was nice so I did it again when I moved. There was no reason to go anywhere else because I was familiar with the system and the service.

I owned a home. I had ADT come out, but we decided not to get it. We have a new home and someone had come and vandalized my flower garden that I spent three weeks on. I was like, I'm getting one. So, I called ADT and just bit the bullet. I had them come out and quote me and got it. The sales rep was good, very professional and very helpful. When the contractor came out to do the install, it went great. He was very knowledgeable as well and generally comforting, ‘cause I knew what they were talking about. It was a great experience.

During the initial sales call that I took, the rep told me about the package that I was going to get. He even went to his manager to make sure that I was gonna get three door sensors, a camera, the doorbell camera, and the motion thing that's on the outside. But he wanted to swap out the motion thing for a glass break detector based on weight and height. So all the equipment was set up so it would be free. Then he said that after the installation was done, I would get the option of what type of plan I wanted and for the system I was gonna get, he said it would be 30-something a month.
But when the guy came for the installation, he said that the motion thing would be fine. Then, I ended having to pay $800 for equipment. On top of that, the lower plan said that it did not include any of the video monitoring, so the doorbell and the video camera wouldn't have been included. So, I was bumped up to the 59.99 a month plan which was a huge change. The installer threw in two smoke detectors for me but it didn't make up for $800 worth of equipment that I had to buy. So, I was pretty disappointed in that. And by the time we were going through all that, I could've said no. But we wanted to make sure that we were protected. The guy that installed the system also said that he was the manager for their local office and that he was gonna find out who the guy was that talked to me on the phone call because that phone call should've been recorded.
Other than that, at the time that I signed up with ADT, they were rated one of the better companies. Plus, their rep was already here and time is important to me, especially when I'm working and people are coming during the day. But since then, I've gotten some better offers from SimpliSafe or other places. Still, we're already set up and running up for years, so that will not change anything at this point.

I saw an ad and I liked the special that ADT had. The salesperson that sold the system was great, very helpful and down to earth. I enjoyed talking to him. The installer was really good too. We ended up knowing a few people so that was really nice. I wish the cameras were cheaper so I could have gotten another camera. But so far, I'm happy with it. The one camera that I have is pretty good. I check it often.

ADT is well known and they got their services. The appointment was made the week before. The tech came out and he was only there for an hour and a half. He was clever with explaining everything and making sure I understood everything with the alarm parts. He was very knowledgeable. I like the system. It's better and more secured. I use the app more than the keypad.

I knew about Protect Your Home through a mail in the office and I felt I was lied to, conned and pressured into taking the system. There were things that weren’t on the ad and every single thing that they promoted on the ad turned out to be something different. The installer was already in my home and he had already drilled holes in my wall, and then told me what it was gonna be. He insisted that things were gonna be more expensive and he went from $700 to just asking me to give him $100 and we would get this done. It was ridiculous and very uncomfortable. At that point, this was during the corona epidemic and he came from New Orleans, and I just wanted him to get out of my house. I had a bunch of people that I was gonna suggest to that but after that experience, I will never refer that.

I know other people that have ADT and my parents have it. Everything is good except the speaker for our doorbell isn't working properly. They wanted me to do something to try to make it work even though I was told that if anything broke, especially the day after installation, that somebody would be out to fix it. They needed to fix it but I'm not home half the time so I don't know if I would be able to do that. We have had a good experience. It's just that just the doorbell did not work.

Currently, I'm trying to get a hold of Protect Your Home so I can get my doorbell squared away.

The ADT sales rep was very knowledgeable and very helpful. It was pretty easy and concise and he answered all of my questions. It was a really brief, but informative phone call. The installation was a little bit rocky. When the tech got there, he laid out all the devices that came with the package. They were having a special of some sort. And then, he went the first time to tell me which ones he recommends that I do not use in my home and how he thinks that they're not really worth it. And I felt like I didn’t really have a choice. By the end, I was very confused and we weren’t seeing eye to eye on some things.
It's my first apartment and it wasn’t like a big home, but I wanted to feel safe with this being my first purchase and I felt like my concerns weren’t heard. It didn’t really suit me to have so many sensors when I just have one way of entry. It didn’t fit and he was like, “Are you sure you wanna do that? Okay. It's your decision.” It was too much pressure and I was already very willing, I signed up with ADT. It wasn’t gonna be a trial basis. I grew up with ADT, so I was, for sure, going to be a customer. I feel like he was trying to upsell me on everything and it didn’t sit right with me. Also, he seemed like he was gonna rush anyway and it was a little iffy for me. He didn’t even take the time to explain all of the things that I was getting with the package before trying to upgrade me to something else. His recommendations were fine, but I don’t wanna be coerced or have my arm twisted into what he thinks is the best situation if I'm choosing otherwise.
Other than that, I feel very safe and protected in my home. I'm very happy with what I had installed, the sensors and stuff. The keypad, unfortunately, because my apartment is pretty old, couldn't be set up as a panel onto the wall. I just have it out in my room right now. But other than that, everything else is fine. The app is super convenient

We decided what we wanted after they showed me the different options and when they did the install in our house, it ended up being a four-day process. The technician was going in the attic to do the cameras for the outside, and he stepped through the ceiling. I’ve gotten it fixed, and they told me that I would just need to send in pictures and the invoice, and they would get back with me. I don’t know who I need to send that to though.
Anyway, the technician did some work, but he left and came back the next day to finish it with another guy. When they left, they left a bunch of wires hanging out of my siding and a couple of holes. My husband ended up going in the attic and he found out that they ran all of the cameras with extension cords. Their manager couldn’t come back till the day after the next, but he came, rewired everything and tried to fix some of the stuff that the two had messed up. Now, the AC power keeps flickering and I don’t know what to do about that. It’ll happen in the middle of the night and start beeping.

The guy set everything up according to the existing package that was already in the house. He just switched out a couple of items. It was faster and easier than I thought it was gonna be. Then, he came back out and checked again and we finally kinda tweaked it. It looks like it’s doing very well right now. I feel pretty secure.
