Would like to upgrade to wireless system without increase in monthly payments. Our system is very old. We have had it for many years. Getting up in age and can't afford any increases. I have seen some deals but for new customers. Also don't know how to go about getting away from home phone.
Hello. Thank you for your review. At your convenience, please call us at 1-800-238-2727 so we can discuss upgrade options, which can include a cell unit that allows the system to communicate without the need for a landline. -Andrew

ADT is always there for me when I need them. Recently - I had left the house after setting the alarm - and had not shut the door tightly which didn't trigger the sensor in the door. This caused ADT to call my cell and let me know this information. Since I was within a block of my house - I was able to return and set the alarm properly with the door firmly closed to engage the door frame sensor. Excellent Service!!

We have ADT services at both our homes and couldn't be happier. Any time we've had a problem, from a failing battery in a sensor unit to a tripped alarm, ADT has responded in a prompt, professional manner. They've even helped me when I had one of those "brain fades" and couldn't remember my login password. Both my family and I feel safer in homes displaying the ADT shield.

I am pleased with ADT. I called them and they came out and hooked the system up with a landline. The installers also showed me how to use it and they cleaned up after they completed the job. Since then, I've got an upgrade to a satellite and it's supposed to work if it gets disconnected or if somebody cuts the phone wire. I also have a motion detector. Then when I had a problem with the battery, their customer service reps talked me through it and I got everything straightened. I would recommend ADT and I already got my cousin to do his house.

I’ve had ADT for about 17 years. I had a problem about two weeks ago. The smoke alarm went off in the middle of the night and I called ADT. Wes, their tech, went out the next day and he was absolutely wonderful. He was very professional and he looked at the smoke detector, and he said, “This is an old one. I’m gonna give you the new one with the Lithium battery, and it’ll last seven to 10 years.”
Also, my alarm went off one time and I called ADT and they walked me through how to reset it. However, when I called ADT and requested them for a tech to come out, because I couldn’t reset it this time, one of the reps said, “Well, if he comes out he’s gonna charge you $85 and every half hour after that is gonna be $20.” He was very abrupt. Then I called back to complain about it and the girl I got the second time said, “Don’t worry about it. It’s our equipment, there will be no charge.” But overall, it’s been fine. I’m very satisfied with ADT and I will tell others to go for them. They’re reliable.

I have used ADT's service for 20 years now. Their service and my dealings with them have been all satisfactory that I just haven't had any need to look at anything else. ADT's reps have always been excellent and our service package suits us. My wife and I are getting older and sometimes groggy in the morning, we would set off the alarm ourselves. They've always called promptly and they would take care of it. I always appreciate that. We communicated with them so we didn't have the police involved.
In February, when we were out of town, there was a CO2 alarm at the house and they contacted us. We were able to deal with the situation from out of town so that the police and the fire department didn't break into our house and run around. ADT connected us with the fire department and we were able to work it all out and dealt with it after we got home. We've recommended ADT to our neighbors and family members.

I am writing this review to reflect false advertisement and skillful dishonesty of many ADT billing/account related representatives. This is not about the service or the system. Both operate very well and seem to be performing up to the level advertised. I am writing about account related false claims and direct lying. First, when I initially had gotten the service (from a certified dealer), I specifically asked about the process of moving the system when moving. I was told that if moving, I would keep the same equipment, same account and same contract and get the move at no additional cost.
Now I called ADT directly and the certified dealer and both sides are asking for a fee and more importantly a new contract. When I objected to such fee while calling the certified dealer side, I was connected to a manager. The manager said that she would offer some type of reimbursement for the fee and we reached a tentative agreement. I asked her to not run my credit yet and to wait because I wanted to check something else with ADT itself. When I called ADT itself, they said that a cancellation has already been ordered and I also noticed a charge on my card.
I really was surprised that they would present that much false claims and hoped that they wouldn't. Again, this review isn't about the wonderful representatives I reach for system/technical issues but more about the billing/account management side. So overall, they presented initial misleading claims about the service when moving and then directly lied about not charging my card so I can call back and confirm that I agree with what was offered.

We have a wireless system on doors and motion sensors inside our house, and it is doing well. Over a period of time, we have had three or four sensors go bad that ADT had to replace. We went to customer service, went through a series of unnecessary questions and they sent the technician. A couple of years ago, there was a tech that kept saying the system wasn't working but it was. The issue turned out to be a bum battery and he fixed it. ADT responds and I would recommend them.

ADT salesman led me to believe I was purchasing the Nest/Ring/Alexa devices. He quoted me a price for each piece of equipment. I didn't read the fine print and this equipment is leased. Then why was I paying money up front for them? Nest for AC will not work if system goes down. Wife has MS and cannot tolerate heat. That was never explained to me or I would never have purchased. System went to "offline" while we were on trip, no notification (no email, text, or phone call). If system goes offline AC will not work (along with all other equipment). Customer service just told me solution would be to have a neighbor come over and reset system. Yeah, IF I got notification that system was down which I did not get while on a trip. Door lock goes thru batteries about every 5 or 6 weeks. No notice when batteries are dead, lock just won't work. TERRIBLE system! TOTALLY DISSATISFIED!

I'm completely satisfied with ADT's service. At the time of the installation I was working in Virginia. But my husband was here when they installed the original system and it went well. Since then, they have come and added some more sensors and it has always gone well. They're very professional and did the work quickly as far as what they had to do. And the workers are always courteous. I have sensors for the doors, glass break-in sensors, carbon monoxide detector and some smoke detectors.
Every time I call them about a problem, they answer very quickly. I've also had my alarm go off a couple of times in the past and either the sheriff or police department got here within a reasonable length of time. And I've had them call me when something appeared to be wrong. They're diligent about that. Also, when I've called them to come and do some kind of service, they've always come. They set an appointment in a reasonable length of time and they always show up within the timeframe they give me. When I've asked for more signs, they've provided them. They're just a real good company. The monthly service fee is very reasonable and I'm happy enough with it. ADT is a company I would recommend to other people.

Defenders DBA Protect Your Home are complete scam artists preying on the people who don't know any better. Their representative Cody **, came to the house of my elderly parents and promised them the wireless plan with ADT Pulse for the same price as a landline plan. He installed the Pulse apps on their phones for them and everything worked, for exactly the three days it took for the contract to become binding. He then turned off the Pulse service and pointed to the fact that he hadn't ever checked that box on the contract. As such, the company had refused to make it right by saying it's not in the contract, a contract that he had my elderly, trusting parents sign on his cellphone with incredibly small font by ensuring them that it was on the up and up.
Do not use this company unless you want to be ripped off. They do not care that their salespeople blatantly lie to customers about what they are getting and have very clearly demonstrated no interest in making things right. They simply say that you can cancel, but that there is a 75% cancellation penalty. The fact that these charlatans are still in business is absurd. Do yourself a favor and don't throw your money away, go with someone who actually cares about their customers.

I called an ADT dealer (which I did not know at the time from the flier) - Defender and had the worst experience in terms of their service - the technician they sent took 5 hours to complete (taking smoke breaks). I signed up for the & promotion plan $28.00 that is connected through the hardwired-landline plan. When the technician arrived he asked if I wanted the wireless and explained the difference and I said I signed up for the promotion, he said that the Hardwire plan does not guarantee safety and anyone could tamper it from outside and the wireless is safer and better. I did not want that as it was beyond my budget. HE was nice enough to bring the wiring through my basement, but then later on said that my landline was wireless and it did not work so had to sign up for wireless.
I told him in that case I have to think about it. He said, “We cannot come back another time.” Having put all this in place and taking so much effort and to sign up now and I could cancel later. So I was forced to do it right away. I was not provided correct information when I signed up. Then I figured that App on my phone kept showing an error and I called them to check and they said they would have to send the technician again. Later I called ADT directly and was given an option that was similar in price but less value, but I wanted to sign up for peace of mind. Later on realized they are equally bad reps and service. They had the wrong address. They had a salesperson call even though I had requested for installation and paid for the service.
The sales guy tried to tell me how I should call 800 number again and ask for installation and how he was saving me time by calling me and letting me know whereas he could have just not showed up (really?!) but he was doing me a favor saving me time. He would not let me tell him that I had asked for installation and not a salesperson and that I did call that number to request the technician to install. I eventually had to hang up since he wouldn't let me say a word. After which he left me voicemail saying that "If I was looking for cheaper price this is what happens and things get messed up and this is what happens". I'm appalled.

I have made 9 calls to ADT regarding this situation. I was treated rudely by at least one account closing specialist who would not listen to my story.
I have been assured by every person I have spoken with that our account has been closed, we would receive a copy of the confirmation of the closing of our account and that we would be refunded the money that was stolen from our bank account by ADT. I have had to call my bank this morning to place a stop payment order against ADT to prevent any further charges. I sit down to write this after one of the most frustrating and embarrassing interactions my wife and I have ever had with a professional company before. This encounter drove the final nail into the coffin of our household ever using ADT for any service ever again. We are extremely brand loyal, my wife more than myself, and we tried to the very last breath to give ADT a second, a third and countless more chances for you to redeem yourself as a company worth keeping for our family. Allow me to start from the beginning.
Eight years ago my wife and I bought our first home after our apartment had been broken into. Having home security was not a question and using ADT was equally a guarantee after my wife's parents have used your service for much longer than I have known them. After five years in our first home with ADT, we were about to expand our family to four and had to find a larger home. When we called ADT to inform you that we were moving and wished to have our service transferred, we were pleasantly informed that we would have the "Exact same service as our last home with zero installation charges!" We were extremely pleased with this arrangement and more than happy to maintain our service with ADT.
The weekend of the move was far from stress-free and crazy, as most moves are, and ADT was at our new house before our bed was. My wife handled the ADT installation as I moved the heavy stuff and she was informed at the time of installation that the serviceman could only install three door sensors, the alarm panel, and a motion sensor.
The window sensors, that we had on all of windows at our last house (a component of the "exact same service" that we were promised at our new home), could not be installed at this time because it wasn't a part of the package that we were receiving. But the ADT serviceman offered my wife the installation of a few sensors for a couple hundred dollars which was promptly declined because we were promised "the exact same service", which included all windows at our last house, to be sensored at no charge. In the middle of moving chaos the serviceman completed the work he had an order for and a three-year contract was signed with grand illusions of fixing the issue later.
After the dust settled we began the journey of getting the simple mistake of the missing sensors taken care of. We discovered over the next weeks of going back and forth with ADT that ADT would not make good on their promise for "the same exact service that we had in our last house." The lady we were working with on the issue went as far as to calling my wife a liar and that she "listened to the phone call and no such promises were made." When we asked if we could please listen to the phone call with them to ensure that we were mistaken, we were told that no such thing would happen.
It was at that moment that I lost all faith in ADT as a company, but I was in a contract for three years. Over those three years our service, which is cellular based, would lose antenna connectivity every month or so that would leave our alarm inoperative for a week at a time while we waited for the serviceman to come "fix" the problem. Their solution was to unplug the AC supply and unplug the backup battery for a few minutes and plug it all back in. I believe this happened two to three times before we stopped calling to wait a week for someone to come fix the problem. I started doing it myself to ensure our alarm was working. Every time that I had to do this, I thought about how much longer was on the contract I had with ADT.
After two years and ten months, I called to cancel. The lady on the other line first pulled up my brother's account and was working off of that before I caught the mistake and I was told to call back in a month because there was a 30 day grace period and to cancel one month before the end of my contract to avoid any penalties. 30 days later, on April 20th, I called back and was pleased with how quick and easy it was for me to cancel. I was asked why I was cancelling and told them to look back at their notes from three years ago when I told them that I would be cancelling at the end of this contract. I already ordered Simplisafe and had it charging waiting for this day!
After I requested the cancellation I kept getting calls from a random number. On April 25th at 7:19 pm, during our family dinner, my wife decided to answer the number. It was ADT, a gentleman from the "Win Back Department", who wanted to discuss the reasons for cancellation and to offer a way to maintain our service. My wife, being more brand loyal than I, explained the situation and expressed why we were leaving ADT, even though I kept telling her to hang up and not to waste her time. The gentleman then "won" her back by promising to install sensors for all the windows, replacing the alarm panel, and offering all this for $14.99 a month for the first six months and then $24.99 a month afterward with no contract.
She was sold and pleased, I was surprised but skeptical. My wife put the gentleman on speaker and blatantly repeated herself back to him over and over to confirm the deal that he just promised so that I could hear it directly from the horse's mouth. He kept saying 11 window sensors because any windows with two windows in the same frame could be sensored with one sensor. My wife said that she would confirm this all with me and the gentleman explained that he was setting up for a serviceman to come out for free on Tuesday, May 1st between 8 and 12. We were told that someone would call 24 hours in advance to confirm and it would be at that time we could inform them if we wished to stay with ADT or not. He informed us that we could "disregard the latest bill from ADT and that a new bill will be issued when everything was finalized.
The afternoon of Tuesday, May 1st, my wife decided to give ADT a call since she had not heard anything and was informed that the service appointment had been "declined" because no one called to confirm the appointment but that they saw all the notes and everything promised to us from the win back team and that someone would call her that day to figure out where things went wrong. Surprise, no one called Tuesday, or Wednesday, but Thursday morning a Curtiss ** with ADT called to say that he was on his way to our home as my wife was headed out the door. We rescheduled the appointment for 9:30am on Friday, May 4th. I cannot recall when, but well before May 4th I noticed a new bill on MyAdt.com for the new service including the remainder of the contract we were on.
Friday, May 4th at 9:30 am Curtiss ** walks into my home and asks my wife, "So what may I do for you?" My wife explains everything, again, and was quickly told that Mr. ** is from Sales and has no idea why he was sent. Curtis spent the next thirty to forty minutes on the phone setting up for a serviceman to come and complete the work and every person he spoke with on the phone could "see the deal that was promised to us", including the local Service Manager, John **.
After a number of phone calls and back and forth, Curtis confirmed "Rick the serviceman would be here this afternoon (May 4th) to complete the work." He assured my wife that this would be handled and even went so far as to exclaim that it was "an amazing deal that we were offered!" I finally got an email at 3:44 pm on May 4th that my technician, David **, was on his way. When David walked into my home, we explained to him the WHOLE situation AGAIN and he explained that he only had a work order to fix the service panel. Within 5 minutes he was able to determine that he needed to replace the wireless modem from a Cox card to a Verizon card to maybe keep the alarm panel from failing again.
I explained that if he could not do everything that was promised to us on the April 25th phone call by the end of the day, that we were finished with ADT and the stress it was causing our family. At this point I was so extremely frustrated with the situation that I can't remember if I called ADT first or if David, the Technician, stepped out to call John ** his manager. I do know that the first time I called ADT while David was in our home, someone from the loyalty department expressed that they aren't sure why there was any confusion because it was so clearly stated in the notes online what was suppose to happen (the service panel was to be replaced, all windows were to have sensors added, and our monthly rate would go to $14.99 for six months and then $24.99 a month after without a contract).
The lady from the loyalty department then asked if the technician was still there and if she could speak with him. She asked if he had 13 window sensors (I'm not sure why the first guy from the win back team decided it was only 11 sensors, but everyone else decided it was 13) on his truck. David checked and did have the sensors and the lady told him to go ahead and install the window sensors along with fixing the service panel. She told David she was updated the ticket and would notify his manager of the order.
After we hung up with ADT, David was very hesitant because his order wasn't updating or changing and he understandably didn't want to get in trouble. So he spoke with his manager, John **, and was told NOT to install any sensors. We were fuming at this point, and David trying to help any way he could without getting himself in trouble, decided to call the loyalty department himself to see if they could change his work order in a way that he could do the work wished. I called ADT again while he was on the phone and finally got a hold of someone and was placed on hold while she elevated the call to a manager.
While I was on hold with ADT, the lady on the phone from the loyalty department with David, the tech, seemed to all of a sudden decide that there was no promise of window sensors noted anywhere and in fact there is no evidence that we spoke with anyone about anything other than a newly promised rate. She would authorize window sensors to be installed at a cost of hundreds of dollars. Amazingly, every other person we had spoken to up to this point during this whole ordeal over the course of two weeks had notes on window sensors and the service panel and not one person mentioned an issue or that it'd cost any money.
Then just like three years ago, when it came time to complete the work, there is no evidence and we'd have to pay hundreds of dollars out of pocket. David got off the phone and the lady I was on hold with came back and started stating the same garbage that there is no evidence of the deal we keep mentioning. My wife then told her to listen to the conversation she had with the man from the win back department that all of a sudden doesn't exist and she snapped back that they already did and he didn't mention the window sensors. Apparently they listened to a 14 minute conversation in the few minutes while we were on hold. I asked my wife to please get David off our property and I then told the lady I was finished with ADT. She explained that I would have to call to cancel our service.
I informed her that I have already cancelled my service, I got an email that says my service was canceled and a final bill stating the same. She then told me that when my wife spoke with the gentleman that they have no record of for the service call on May 1st that was "denied because no one confirmed it" that it automatically restarted our service. I told her that I was done with ADT immediately and expected my cancellation from April to be valid.
I requested the information from my final bill, one that hadn't been adjusted based on unfulfilled promises and she finally told me, "OK, your service has ended and you will get a reimbursement of 20 some dollars" and I'd get a statement in the mail in 5 to 10 days. I am fully expecting that this will not go as planned. I keep checking MyAdt.com and while the current statement hasn't updated, I do see that it says that we have a service appointment scheduled for May 11th. I do not know why we have a service scheduled, nor do I have any desire for anyone from ADT to come to my home.
After wasting a huge chunk of our time, I waste even more of my time to rehash this entire story for several reasons. One is, I am tired of starting this story over from the beginning again every time I speak with someone new at ADT. We had to do this many times over during this whole event and as we became more and more upset, it became harder to convey what we were trying to say. Another reason why I took the time to write this up is because I can only hope that this finds someone somewhere in ADT that truly cares how their company is being run and what their field offices are doing to their customers. I beg you to please listen to conversations and expand upon your training among managers and the loyalty department.
I could fully understand if the gentleman from the win back team overstepped his authority and made promises that ADT couldn't keep, but own up to that and explain that you are unable to do EXACTLY what he promised but will do what you can. I have never felt so abused by a company before, especially from someone that we were so willing to do business with for as long as we have owned a home. Please feel free to reach out to myself or my wife if you have any questions about what happened. I truly hope this story finds its way into the hands of someone who can make the changes necessary in the training and operation of ADT to ensure that something like this never happens to another customer again.

Had an incident at my home last night. Could not access my alarm system/cameras online... Wondering what was wrong, I called ADT and found out that someone had canceled my account. A company that is suppose to specialize in security, allowed a stranger (they gave me her name) I never heard of before, stop my protection. What hurts so much is I've been with them for 10 years, automatic pay, and they never verified it with me. So, be aware ADT customers, your home protection can be canceled by anyone, anytime. When I needed you (ADT) the most, after 10 years of being your customer, you left me without the service I paid for. NO PROCESS IN PLACE TO PROTECT YOUR CLIENTS... SHAME ON YOU!!!
They could not tell me how this happened. I spoke to 2 different representatives, was on hold for 30 minute. Still nothing. Without having a conclusion as to why this happened, they wanted to proceed to set my account back up and continue to charge me as if nothing happened. In this high climate of identity theft, I'm boggled as to how this could happened... I felt no sense of sensitivity as to what happened to me. They just wanted the money, after they left me vulnerable... SHAME ON YOU ADT!!! My account is officially closed... ADT customers, be informed.

Almost a year a year ago we got our security system. It was set up as far as we knew. Mind you we are in our early fifties and did not grow up in school learning this new technology. The sales person and the set up tech did not walk us through on how to set our video camera and we believed that all the steps had been taken for full setup. Three times we have had things stolen off our property in that year. We did not get any video feed. With us not really knowing what we needed to know because we were not schooled by the tech we assumed that things were being stolen while we were at home and the system was not on.
I finally called ADT to ask why we were not catching the thieves and well lo and behold the video camera was not online. So just to make this story short I am really mad and well ADT keeps passing the buck to Safe Tree USA. If a company outsources to someone else then they better make damn sure that the company who they are outsourcing be trained in the manner that ADT expects and ADT should be checking and rechecking on occasion with random customers. It is the ADT name, nowhere on my signs or decals does it say Safe Tree. They keep passing the buck onto Safe Tree.
My complaint is not with Safe Tree because never once did I know that Safe Tree had anything to do with my system. The app that I use is Alarm.com. When I pay my monthly bill it goes to ADT not to Safe Tree or Alarm.com so who will I hold responsible? ADT that is who. There is no manual that they give to know what should be working and how. In order to set up the video camera the tech that was here should have done it with Alarm.com. We as the consumer cannot contact Alarm.com on our own to change anything. An agent or tech person must do that. Do not get ADT for home security. You will have nothing but headaches.

I agreed on a package with the online rep and he told me everything is included. He even added a $350 bonus because of my credit. After the installer wasted 2.5 hours of my time (he only installed the keypad). He tells me, "The alarm system will be $3500. You have a $2000 credit therefore your balance is $1500." He told me before he started, everything is included. The sensors are either $129 or $149 for the glass break. Every piece of equipment is deducted from the $2000. I wanted the basic plan. Discuss everything before you allow the installer to begin. Now I have to fix the wall where he drilled the hole. Thank a lot Nadir **.

I signed a three year contract with ADT. About 9 months into my contract, I had the same individual attempt to break into my apartment, peep into my apartment, and stalk me. I have the police reports to prove it. This was beyond my control and I felt unsafe. I needed to live in a high security building, of which do not allow security systems. I was not allowed to cancel my ADT contract even due to these extreme circumstances. I would think a security system company would understand that I had to leave my place for my own safety. Sadly, they just wanted my money. I just made the final payment of $621. Last year I made a payment of $594 FOR A SYSTEM I CANNOT USE AND IS NOT IN USE. I hired ADT to take over the security system in my new house and add 4 cameras. I had their system at my old house and strongly considered using someone else as they couldn't even keep track of the fact that I had their service, calling multiple times a week to get me to sign up while the system was armed at my house. Against my better judgement I stuck with them at my new house. This took a turn when ADT ran my credit when I hadn't authorized them to do so or agreed to hire them yet. They did give me a small discount to "cover" for this mistake. During the installation the crews needed to borrow my ladder as they didn't bring a tall enough ladder with them, not only did they leave my ladder where they used it and not put it away but they also didn't clean up after themselves.
Back to the install. At some point a mistake was made and a wire was shorted out in a wall from what I understand. After multiple conversations with the techs and others at ADT trying to tell me that it wasn't their fault that the circuit breaker had tripped and would not reset they finished the install using extension cords. Unfortunately, this created an issue where there was no permanent power to the head end. Thus, the security system was not able to be connected and the crews left. (Please note that when ADT arrived at my house there was a security system that functioned although it was not monitored and all the power to my house was working. When they left this was not the case.) Finally, after midnight the electrician had found the issue and had it corrected.
ADT showed up the next evening to finish the install and connect the system. Lo and behold they could not as one of the cameras was no longer working and therefore they could not connect the system because they could not "Close out" the job. The following week I took yet another day off work so that they could come fix the camera. They did and finally closed out the job. During this time I had been talking to the salesman and his boss and identified to both of them that I didn't feel that charging me full price for having to deal with this was fair. Apparently they thought differently and again tried to convince me that it wasn't their fault.
Sadly there is much more to this encounter but this review is already long so I'll skip the rest. Long story short. I have a laundry list of items to fix at my house due to this install, paint scuffs, siding damagem etc. All in all the product seems to be good but the install, sales and service is terrible. I hope if you decide to use ADT that you aren't fond of the finishes at your home and don't mind being in the dark. Literally.

The technician who installed the system (Jonathan) was absolutely fantastic! I’ve known about ADT for many years. I live alone with my dog. I got ADT and the packages that I have are fine with me. They serve my purposes quite well. My dog is with me most of time so I don’t want the motion detector being set off by her moving around in the house. I’d go off and I’ll set it on stay. I’m an old man and I have to get up in the night. I put it on armed with the other so if there was a motion at home, it would’ve set it off. But it has been good and I’ve had no problems at all.
About a week, I left to go someplace. I have different glasses for when I’m on the computer than my normal bifocals. I had been on the computer and when I left, I had those glasses on. I got about five or six blocks away and it dawned on me, I had the wrong glasses and I was going to a meeting where I’d have to do some reading. So I turned around and came back home. I usually go out the back door to the carport. In this instance, I pulled up to the front of the house and let myself in the front door not thinking to turn the alarm off first. And of course, I set it off.
I was hardly inside the door and the guy was on the phone and I told him it was my bad and that I did it. It’s funny because he asked me for my password and I couldn’t remember it. I remembered it after I got off the phone with him. The guy who I spoke to was very pleasant. He didn’t tell me that I was a nitwit for forgetting to turn it off. Also one time, I called ADT to check the system and they're really helpful in doing that. I also like the thing where if I forget to turn the alarm on when I leave, I can turn it on with my phone. I use that occasionally because sometimes I’m in a hurry to go someplace and when I get in the car and I get halfway where I’m going, I feel I didn’t turn on the alarm. Overall, I’m very happy and satisfied with ADT.

He gave me an idea on video systems when I get some more remodeling work in the future, and we discussed that. He was very helpful. During the installation, the rep showed me the first time around how everything worked and then I did it. Then, down the line when we changed one of the features, he explained it and then I had to read the manual too. We had a system installed the night before leaving for a vacation. It took them 6 hours to install and the tech didn't leave my house until 10:00 pm. Before leaving, he handed me his iPad and told me to initial in several places. After having this man in my house from 4pm to 10pm, I'll admit, I just initialed the iPad places and sent him on his way. Little did I know that I just signed 36 months of my life and money away to ADT! After returning from vacation and actually starting to use the keypad in the bedroom and elsewhere, we noticed that one didn't work right. So, 6 days into having this alarm, I called the company and told them we weren't happy and wanted to cancel. It took an entire hour for me to actually get a customer service rep on the phone that would talk and hear my story. I was hung up on twice and talked down to by a typical collections guy named Jeff.
I was then told that so sad- too bad, I was stuck with them for 3 years or I could pay $1400 to get out of the contract!! In the first 6 days they have already billed me $853.93!! They are ruthless and my husband and I are looking into ways to rid ourselves of having anything to do with them. First off - how can you trust a company that can't even transfer your call without hanging up on you... twice? Second, if they have to bully customers into staying through extortion, then how good can they really be? I will never recommend ADT to anyone! They were supposed to come out and redo everything, but when they came out, they didn't redo it like they said they were going to. Instead, they put in two pulse cameras that I can't record on, when what I wanted was two cameras that I can record on, like the ones I already had. So, the service wasn't so good and I didn't like it.
Also, the guy told me what the price was gonna be, but he put down another price. He said that once they had done the installation, they were taking everything off, but I didn't go for that because it's not right to tell me that I'm gonna pay one thing and then when everybody comes out to install everything, they're telling me another thing. If they say one thing, that's what the homeowner would be looking for. But what he had said was gonna happen hasn't happened yet and it has been over two weeks.

Normal service has been great. However when I called to relocate the service from ** in Palm Bay to ** in Palm Bay I was concerned how the interaction took place. Originally I called to find out if my system was owned by me or leased (a question asked by the buyer of my house). The rep seemed to not know the answer and indicated that the equipment should be left in the house when we closed. We then went through the requested date for installing service at 1811 and canceling service at ** (different dates).
At that time I was told that a different rep would call to verify our discussion. I then receive a call, which was blocked by my system. Expecting a call per the rep, I made a call back to the blocked number. Upon reaching the "relocation" department, the new rep indicated that at that moment there was no info about my previous call. I than went through the whole request process again including having to start the clock for a new contract period. The rep explained the policy which is not made clear in the documents from ADT I received. I currently have two accounts with the organization, ** Road., Palm Bay Fl. and ** St., Mt. Holly NJ.
If I'am suppose to have the ability to move my coverage to a new location, why does the contract period start over? I can understand some cost, my original document says cost will be $99.00, but by having a new contract says each time I move the service for whatever reason, I am locked in to ADT. God forbid I have to move again and want to continue using ADT. In that I have a few weeks before the install date, I have time to consider another service provider or option.

Hello Julieth- We appreciate you reaching out and voicing your concerns.
We are not familiar with the advertisements you are referring to. Less than $7.00 a day would amount to approximately $210.00 a month.
ADT's traditional services with landline communication start at $27.99 a month. Any upgrades, such as Pulse or cellular communication would be a different security package and higher cost.

I have one more scheduled in May, to pick up equipment. In the meantime, NO ONE can authorize my refund until the equipment is picked up.
I called ADT Corporate Offices and they say there is nothing they can do because the installation was done by an outside contractor not ADT. In the meantime the vendor-Defender, has my money $1,000 and will not refund until they get their equipment. This is horrible service on both parts. I will definitely tell people not to trust ADT!! I understand I'm only one person in their multi-million dollar company and I don't mean anything to them. CONSUMER BEWARE!! You are dealing with sub-contracted vendors not ADT and from my experience ADT doesn't care what their subcontractors are doing or in this case not doing. DO NOT PURCHASE SECURITY SYSTEM FROM ADT!!!

My wife and I just purchased our second home. We had ADT in our last home and didn't like the experience of getting everything installed, but this isn't about that. We had decided to switch to another company here in NC, and I got a phone call from Shelly letting me know that I still have an additional year left on my contract with ADT, so there would be cancellation fees unless I was moving for a military purpose. My wife and I then decided to stay with ADT because of the moving discounts we would get.
We agreed to purchase a Ring doorbell, door lock, Nest Thermostat, automated garage door opener, and a keypad package that would include all of the necessary things to make our home safe. During the install, my wife and I were on vacation outside the country and my mother in law, who lives with us, handled the actual install. When the technician got there he set a lot of the items up, like the Nest, the Ring, and the new keypad. Unfortunately, our garage door was too old for the automated opener. So, Shelly, without my permission, decided to sell us other equipment that would equal the same value as the garage door opener, a value of over $100. She 'sold' us an additional key fob, a lamp module, and a lightbulb.
I want to note here that she did not add anything practical, like a smoke detector. I thought that was already included in the 'package' because I am fairly certain that I told Shelly that I wanted that in my house, I didn't learn until much later that my house isn't monitored. The installer decided to put the smart lightbulb in a dual socket, so to use it, the non-ADT bulb would have to always be on. When I told Shelly that it would have been better to not give us anything additional, she offered to check and see if we were allowed to return the additional items that we 'purchased'. She then told us that we could put the smart lightbulb on the porch, but when an additional installer came out to put in our door lock, he said that those bulbs are for interior use only and it would not work outside. He then said that for our trouble he would give us another lightbulb free.
Additionally, we had an old Brinks system in our home. The Brinks keypad is in a desirable place that would make it very convenient to disarm our system when we came in the house. This was the first time I had been told that none of the old Brinks system would be removed. We have a 'wireless' pad that has to be connected to our internet modem in our living room. Not until after the installation did I realize that I would either have an old system in my laundry room and closet, but that if I didn't want them, I would have big holes in the walls of my laundry room and closet.
After I told Shelly that now that we have this additional stuff it doesn't make sense to return it, she said that she would look to give us a credit on our bill. Since then, she has been silent and not returned text messages. We then had to have a third person, Eric, come out to reinstall the lightbulbs in our home. He got them installed quickly and efficiently. If all of our interactions were with someone like Eric, then we may stay with ADT when our contract is up. We have given ADT two chances, and both times they messed with the installation of our systems and what they said that they would install. I hate being thoroughly surprised, in a bad way, when it comes to installation of items in my home, especially the equipment that is meant to protect my home.

When My 84 y/o mother moved from her home to mine she and I called ADT to stop her service when the property was sold (August of 2016). She could not remember her passcode that her late husband had set so ADT refused to stop service, When I invoked the Power of Attorney (ADT was faxed a copy in August of 2016) and ordered a stop to the service they continued to withdraw funds from one of credit card accounts without her understanding the account was still open. When I took over all of my mother's financial responsibilities (about a year later) I found where ADT had continued to withdraw funds from her credit card. I called to complain and they said that their computer showed that we had never contacted them in August of 2016 but they could not explain how they got her new address. It took more than 16 months to stop service and close the account. ADT has no reasonable customer service and fewer ethics.

The installer came and upsold us to the ADT Pulse and promised us one more $100 gift card if we go with the upgrade so we upgraded and the installer never told us how to get the now $200 gift card so we assumed it will come in mail as most other companies do.
We waited for more than 1 month before calling the 800 number just to find out we have to fill out a form and send the first page of the contract and $4.95 in Cashier's check or money order in order to receive the gift card and that we are only getting one of the gift card. Also, I never received copy of my contract so I cannot even fill the first $100 form. I called the 800 number again and their ** system does not allow them to send the contract again (or that's what I was told). So to summarize, we are now getting only $95.05 ($100 - $4.95) if somehow I figure out how to file for gift card. ADT advertises Alarm Systems with free installation and the system "becomes yours" after you've had it for three years with monthly monitoring. Once the three years are up and "you own the system", if you choose to stop paying or can't afford the monthly monitor fee, the system will beep continuously and is very disturbing until you either disconnect the system or pay the monitor fee. I feel it's a set up to get the Alarm System installed into your property and once that happens, you are forced to continue to pay if you want to keep it. So you never really own the system because you are forced to pay monthly as long as you have the system unless you can tolerate the beeping noise. Because the installation was free, ADT will not come back to remove the system.
Don't be fooled with the free installation and after three years you own the system and have a choice to pay the monthly monitor fee. You don't have a choice, once you stop paying the system becomes useless. Yes you still have the system but it's only good for driving you crazy with the beeping noise. The Battery and the Transformer has to be disconnected if you can't afford the monthly fee to stop the beeping noise; what do you have after that, NOTHING! In addition, it's not easy to disconnect the Transformer. The service is okay as long as your're paying. The catch is to get the system in your house and then, THEY GOT YOU!

They offered me a discounted rate of $39.95 a month but took me by surprise when they told me my contract was for 3 years. I told the employee that I was going to review my contract and consider my options, I also told him to have a good evening and we ended the phone call. I reviewed my contract, they were right...my contract was for three years so I called back to accept the rate change and was told that I had hung up on their employee and had declined the offer.
I have paid my bill on time, they have never had to lift a finger in relation to my coverage and this is the way they roll? Had ADT for over 20+ years. Highly recommend them. If I were to have a complaint, it would be I hate that the security cameras only take 30 second clips and can take on average 5 minutes to reset; in doing so, if someone pulls in front of house, by the time they get out of their vehicle, there is no footage of it. If they pulled off within that 5 minutes, again, there is no footage. I've missed some pertinent things I needed as proof; HOWEVER, on the flip side, the camera has captured some footage I needed. If you happen to actively watch the live footage, you are able to capture video/still pictures yourself, prior to the 5 minute reset. This only helps if again, you decide to watch live footage of it. Who has that kind of time 24/7 (smile).

Working for a customer oriented corporation for nearly 13 yrs, I would guess Corporations like ADT will go above and beyond to provide great customer experience. But unfortunately it was opposite. Been ADT clientele for nearly 10 or more years in California and New York and have always advocated their services. Cancelled their subscription last year due to some reason. Had everything installed, from wireless Sensors to switch to pulse (Smartphone support). Spend lot of $$ initially for all this.
To make things brief, called them yesterday, after going through their advertisement, of $19.99 per month mailer send to me, if you have already have system in place. For which they said I can’t as I don’t have wireline and second I had pulse installed (Smartphone support) and still have to sign 2 yrs contract, which didn’t make sense to me, as why I do have to sign a contract, when I have everything previous installed ADT system. I agreed to all their strange policies. Also asked them to install 3 cameras at my house. Which they said they will give one free and 2 they will charge $400+ for both, which I agreed, as they said they were top of the line camera’s in the industry, but I found out later they are not, and the pixel quality is not that good. I would have liked if they would have given any options but not.
And the monthly subscription of $49.00, as they discounted $10.00 from $59.99, learned they do for all customers, just making me think, that they are doing something for me. Still agreed to everything they asked and offered, as I believe what they said. Today when they came for install, things were different from what they have said, no free camera and also explained the duration of camera was only 30 seconds and clarity was not good. I choose not to go through with installation, as I feel they have are not the same company I dealt with years back. Looks like their motto is to sell everything (which they should) but with no customer experience behind it. Even though they would have generated revenue from me, but looks like they are care more about policies. I have been in customer experience industry for last 15 years, but this is the first time I wrote a Negative feedback, as I feel their brand had failed me today. Thanks.

I have had ADT for over 15 years. The last year I have found out some real truths about the character and reliability of this company. First, after a long Chicago winter I noticed a wire attached to a box on my front lawn. It turns out this is the only power source to my alarm system. I remember the day it must have got caught in my snowblower because it fried the belt and had to bring it in for repair (that was December by the way).
Unbeknown to me ADT didn't even know my system was disconnected and then lied that they were monitoring me the whole time up to my service phone call to gave them out to fix it. At that point between the lies and the treatment on the phone I cancelled ADT. They told me at that time I would need to pay for this month because of the 30 day out agreement (that was March). I paid even though they haven't been monitoring anything since December. Now fast forward to April and lo and behold I was billed on April 7 and they say it was not 30 days LMAO. This company is a sham. Be careful if you have a break in because I dont believe they really know.

I agreed to this. Then they suggested I do it at the other location of West 13th. Once more I agreed. Since then my husband who was using the second residence has died. In clearing up his estate and selling the apartment it has become necessary to end the agreement with ADT.
When I notified ADT of this, a very rude person (I believe his name was Jeff, not sure) became quite aggressive and shouted a number of times to say that I had to pay a penalty of $1500. Now I do not have a copy of the contract that he told me I had signed. If I did sign such an agreement I would like a copy of it, please. I asked to speak to the Supervisor. He told me the Supervisor was busy but that he, the Supervisor, would call me back within 48 hours. He has not. I have had no communication from ADT since then. I have asked the buyers of the apartment whether they would take over the system but they declined as they have their own alarm company. Considering how long I have been a customer and that I will still be a customer at my other address going forward would you consider some alleviation of the penalty that I have been told I must pay.

The young lady wanted us to turn around and go back home. We explained our situation. We asked her if she had called the Police, which she hadn't. When the Police got there they retrieved our key and shut the system down. Good thinking on.

If you're looking for a security system, I suggest ADT. I have been with them for 10-plus years and so far, I'm very pleased with their service. I have the wireless, the way you can set it once you leave. I also have the keypad, the signs, as well as the motion detectors. The sales team was wonderful. They were very knowledgeable about what they were selling and what they were installing. If I had questions, they were able to answer them. Additionally, the installer was very precise. It didn't take him very long to do what he had to do. He also had a pleasant personality. Furthermore, they should just continue being able to explain and sell the product and make sure the consumer feels secure with the system.

I fixed my package and ADT lowered my price. As a retiree, it got a little steep there for a while but we're good for a couple of years. The features are okay but they still have to charge me another $30 a month for the fire alarm. And for what I pay, ADT should put the fire alarm in there because that's something I need. But so far, the service overall is good. Recently, I couldn't remember how to run my system, and I turned it on but I couldn't turn it off. An ADT technician came out and he was good. I would tell my friends that ADT would be okay. I've been with ADT for about 18 years and I'm fine with them.

I was scheduled to have video cameras installed outside my home on 3/31/18 from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. I was called later in the morning by ADT to tell me that the technician was running late and that the technician would be able to come to my home after 12:30 p.m. that day. Since, I was waiting for the technician to arrive since 7:30 a.m. I therefore did not want to waste my whole Saturday waiting for the arrival of the technician and the installation of the video cameras. I therefore re-scheduled on that Saturday for installation of the video cameras for that Wednesday since I knew it would be sunny in the morning and mild in the 60's. I had an appointment on April 4th with a schedule window from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
On Wednesday morning, I received a phone call from ADT stating that they had to cancel the appointment that day. I was told by ADT that it was going to thunderstorm that day and the technician would not be able to install the cameras in the rain. However, from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. it was sunny and mild and the rain did not begin until 12:30 p.m. that day. ADT offered to re-schedule again but I was very agitated and told them that if I do call back, I will make sure it is sunny and mild. I do not understand if I have a 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. window, aren't I the first customer to be service. If the technician is delayed, how come ADT does not send another technician to conduct the installation? Other professionals do the same, if one technician is delayed the company will send another technician to the home.

"I am very satisfied with my cameras and the service. The technician was very professional, courteous and very knowledgeable. He was very thorough and upon arrival, he walked me through the locations around my house on how the cameras were going to be set up and the best way for me to feel and be secure. After the cameras were set up, he showed me how to access, view, record, etc. on my laptop and also on my smart phone. He assured me that if I had any questions, for me to feel free and contact ADT and they would help me. I am THRILLED on my service and my cameras. Thank you ADT!"

My parents had a house in New Jersey which was alone and got broken into no less than eight times. So, we have an appreciation of what really needs to be done for security and when we built the house, we were very interested in being secure because it was alone for a long time. When their installation team came out, they did a quick breakdown of everything, showed up when they were supposed to and how they were supposed to show up. They put in a good system and behaved the way they were supposed to.
However, the most recent events were a little disconcerting because we’ve had a couple of false alarms there. But we’d rather have false alarms than non-actual alarms. So, if the system is overly sensitive, that’s fine with us. One of their guys said that it might be a battery problem in the tub room. But that was replaced within the year and they were supposed to last more than a year. Our real concern here, though, is that this could be a ploy on the part of the not-so-nice people who are actually smarter than they ought to be. What they do is they have the alarms triggered off a whole bunch of times then the people and the cops get tired of going to check it out, and we’ll get a break-in for real.
We will be up there in June and we would really like to have a visit from ADT by then so we'd give them a call before we get up there. We don’t want the local police to get tired of hearing about us so we got to get to the bottom of what’s going on. Other than that, we've been ADT customers for three years now and we like them.

We had my husband's home broken into so we called ADT. They knew the house was on the market to be sold. My Husband signed a 3 year contract with them. The rep knew we had the house on the market but still signed us up for 3 years. We moved in August to our temporary home. We could not bring our system with us due to us renting. I understood we had to buy out our contract. We received a notice on October 13, 2017. I called and documented all the calls and logged in all the CSRs I spoke with. I set up payment arrangements. I spoke with the original rep for ADT and he assured me when we get to our permanent home we could be refunded the $1000.00 for our buy out if we signed up with ADT.
I paid $500.00 the month of November and set up auto pay for $250.00 each month until balance was paid in full which would have been February. In January we received a statement from a collection agency and ADT dropped the ball and sent it by mistake and I was told they could not get the account back from collections once it has been turned over. I would rather hire an armed guard to watch my home than ever used this company again. Just know word of mouth travels fast!!!! I would not recommend this company to anyone!!!! Not mad but real disappointed with this company. Honesty and integrity are not their strong points.

I’ve had ADT for at least nine years and I’ve been very satisfied. A few times, their reps responded to me when I fell in the house and their response time was very good. I had the hardware all done over recently because there were some problems with the box, the alarm, and the ceiling. They came over and readjusted everything. Also, they put a new battery in.
However, I always felt that if I were really having a heart attack, it took them a long time, almost a minute to get back to me, and I could’ve died before then. They weren’t that rapid because it’s such a big company, and it’s global so it takes a long time for them to respond right away. But fortunately, I have not had those incidents. On the other hand, a couple of times when I thought I closed the doors and I got into my car, I heard from them immediately, saying, “Your alarm is going.” And I realized that I might not have closed the door tightly enough.
I go off to New York or other places, and the only place it’s good for is in my home and around the grounds, and I really need coverage elsewhere. I don’t know how it's going to be when I move. The place I’m going to is an assisted living place and they may have their own system over there. Other than that, I’ve already recommended ADT.

I can follow this up with a 4 star for the second representative (Allen) who helped me, but this is about Sarah, a customer representative who claims she has worked as a CSR for over 10 years with the company. I recently called to cancel my account and it should be a pretty easy process, I sent a written letter to the provided email over 1 month ago (amscresicancels@adt.com) and still my account was not canceled. So I was unfortunate to receive Sarah (who knows if that's her real name) to help me, she was very pushy and wouldn't let me speak.
When I asked her name so I can refer back to whom I spoke with if this continues (billing me) to happen, I could hear her giggling in the background. I think she was thinking I would report her, but in my experiences, I need a paper and contact trail. Very unprofessional, especially when your job is to help us. At the end of the day, she hung up on me, I didn't even think that was even possible since most CSRs cannot hang up unless the customer does.
That upset me so much, I decided to create this account and tell this story. I called right back and Allen was able to assist me exactly how a CSR should. He was helpful, insightful and empathetic to my situation. I would give that guy a bonus. I would just want someone in ADT's customer experience and strategy department to use my recorded conversation for this case and a staple of what and what not to do when dealing with customers. I can provide a case number if needed. Sarah = 0 Stars. Allen = 10 Stars.

After a break-in, I had ADT installed. I feel more secure when I'm home alone even with my dog. With children visiting, I can tell when they are going in and out of the house. I also know my home is protected when I'm away visiting friends.

Great service. Great experience. The repairman was intelligent, helpful and explained what the problem was and what caused it and what he did to correct it. He left his card and told us to call him directly with any further concerns.
