Microsoft are a bunch of idiots. The Xbox 360 is a ** product from a ** company with ** support. Sony PlayStation rules forever. The PS3 buttons are easier to control and the console looks far better and has a blue-ray player. The best part about the PS3 is that it doesn't ** out after 3 months of use. Microsoft, please give me my money back so that I can buy a real gaming console - the PS3! I received the red ring of death on my Xbox 360 and it took over 4 months to replace. Really poor service.

Please be aware that I am sending this email to as many agencies, media outlets and consumer advocates as I can find (thank goodness for Google and its wealth of assistance in this area).
I recently purchased an XBox Live Gold membership for my son at a cost of $99 and spent $100 for a wireless adapter all as a present for my son. When he attempted to activate his membership, he inadvertently typed his birth date incorrectly. As a result, he is unable to log onto any of the games of his choice despite their rating. The next day I attempted to contact XBox Live customer support only to find out they were closed.
The following business day I attempted to contact them again. This was where the real fun began. I explained what happened and that I needed either to: 1) fix the account so that my son can play some games, or 2) transfer my membership to a new gamer tag so that we can set it up properly to play the games online that he has been playing, or 3) refund the subscription so that we can purchase a new one
I spoke with John, Chris, Richard, Mariam, Ben, Alfred (none of these folks were actually in the United States and there was a substantial language barrier), Tiffany and many others. All of them apologized profusely, but explain that there was absolutely nothing they could do to help us. We tried for 8 frustrating hours to get this resolved to no avail. It is unbelievable to me that Microsoft, one of the largest companies in the world, is either not competent enough to solve this issue or cares so little for its customer that they choose not to. Either way, I am in the process of selling the Xbox and all games and accessories so that I can buy my son a PS3. And as much as I love Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint etc., I am absolutely looking into alternatives.
How sad. Shame on you, Microsoft.

I have purchased 2 Xbox 360 video game systems from Future Shop, which are Microsoft products. They both have 1 red light errors. 1 of them sometimes displays 3 red lights and most of the time just gives me 1 and a error code. My oldest system is about 15 months; the other one is around 11. I have tried working with their phone support and email support to resolve this issue. They would like me to pay them for the repairs (which I don’t believe I should have to pay for). Many, many, many users of this product are having this issue and it needs to be fixed. It is an error on their part with faulty hardware.
Their phone support is also a joke. It’s operated outside of North America and these guys try to tell you anything. The issue is the cooling system (I know this because I was able to successfully get one working for a month or so, which in the long run completely voided any warranty with them). I have owned many systems in my day and guess what? They all still work. My PS3 and Wii are fine (over a year old). I do not believe I should be stiffed and only get a year out of their product (which not to mention I barely used, the thing was on for maybe 5 hours a week).

I bought an Xbox 360. The item broke and I sent in for repairs. They repaired and sent it back. Problem was, my personal information including debit card was in the memory. When I received it back, I was unable to log on to my account. Someone had changed my password. I immediately contacted them and they refused to reset password even when I provided all information. Two weeks later, I got a bank statement with charges from Microsoft totaling $142.25. I called them again and they still refused to close the account and told me that my account was compromised and no other charges would occur. Meanwhile, they would issue a refund to the bank for the fraudulent charges within 72 hours. That was 2 weeks ago. I called again today and was told that they did not know how long it would take and refuse to let me speak to a supervisor. This was done internally as the only persons who had access would have been their tech people in the Repair dept. The reference number they gave me is **. Is there anything you can do to help me?

My Xbox 360 console has had hardware troubles three times, two of those times being the Red Ring of Death problem that required me to send my console out for repair. This third problem is two red quadrants lighting up, which means a problem with the cooling system. My console had this problem not two weeks after I got it back from its last repair.

I've had it with Microsoft. I cannot keep getting new Xbox 360's; I'm already on my 4th console - $299.00 times 4 is approximately $1,200.00. I believe it's time to do something legally about this highway robbery Microsoft is so blatantly getting away with. The serial numbers for the systems if needed are as follows: 404402760725, 409961661205, 511299134306, and 055000480507. The problem with these systems and others that I have seen are: 1) poor case design (vent holes); 2) two fans on back (a fan on top would solve this); 3) systems overheats due to improper thermal grease installation; and 4) X-clamps underneath the mainboard become loose because of the overheating which also makes it overheat to the point of damage.
I could add more to this list, but I would be satisfied to see Microsoft resolve those 4; and I’m sure everyone who owns an Xbox 360 would also. Thank you for listening. Consequences: spending approximately $1,200.00 for 4 Xbox 360's; I only wanted one good one. I spent much time being frustrated and upset about the fact Microsoft takes over a month to fix a console, when it only takes 30 minutes to fix (if the mainboard hasn't died because of overheating all 4 of my consoles are).

In 2005, I purchased an Xbox 360 console as well as all the peripherals. After about a year, the console died and had to be repaired. The first time, Microsoft was very happy to take care of the problem and responded quickly. I then received a refurbished Xbox 360 that was not my own. Another year passed by and again I got the RROD and an error message. Well, on this occasion, I was told I had to pay $140 to fix the console because it was out of warranty, which I did. Upon receiving yet another Xbox 360 that was not the one I sent in but a refurbished, I was sent a letter to tell me that the warranty had been extended to three years and I was to receive a refund of the repair cost.
Another year went by with several phone calls to customer service and still no refund, and the console died again. I called up Customer Service and was told I would have to pay $120 for the repair this time. I explained to the service rep that I was supposed to receive a refund and that it had been so long without receiving it. I didn't care about it, just apply it to the repair of this console. He then proceeded to tell me that they would escalate the status of my issue in regards to the refund owed (which they told me before and nothing happened) and the best way to get a repair quickly was to go ahead and pay for the repair and the refund would be handled separately.
So basically, they would have $260 of my money and since I had never received the original refund, I had no indication that I would receive one in the future other than the rep telling me the same line they told me when I called a year ago. So finally, what it boils down to is, if this one gets replaced, it will be my fourth Xbox 360 in five years, which is totally unacceptable. My original PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube have all worked flawlessly for years. This product is defective and they know it, yet expect us to pay for it. I have thousands invested in the console including my Xbox live subscription that is ticking away. This is the worst experience with an electronics item and customer service I have ever received.

I bought an Xbox 360 almost two years ago. At that time, I was only playing it once a month or so until the beginning of this year. Yesterday, my Xbox 360 freezes up. I recycled the power and tried again. The problem persisted and became more frequent within a few minute interval. I called up Microsoft. They told me that it was a hard drive failure and I have to send it in. They then told me that the standard warranty is 1 year and that I would have to pay $99.99 and the extended 3-year warranty only covers the 3 rings of death.
I have followed their rules of positioning it in a clean open space, making sure there's no dust build up and I even tried to trouble shoot it using their website. I performed the maintenance and wiped the external hard drive that came with the unit. I tried running the unit without the external hard drive and was met with the same results. Why should I have to pay another $100 for their faulty hardware? My original Xbox lasted longer than this piece of crap and it's still going. I paid a total of $700 for the Xbox elite, 2 games, 1 year live and extra controller and for them to tell me that all of these were worth 2 years is crap.

After spending $1,000 on a replacement Xbox console due to the three red rings of death on the original console; and a further $180 on Xbox Live membership; wireless adapter; and FIFA 09, we cannot play the one Xbox game we have online. I thought I was doing the right thing as a parent and set up the account as a child account with parent control. However, Microsoft does not allow the parent to control content access and provides no way for the account to be changed. The only solution Microsoft offered was for us to spend more money buying another membership and to set it up as an adult account and authorize my children to use it.
Clearly, Microsoft is happy to take money whether the consumer realizes any value or not, and is willing for adults to masquerade as children on Xbox Live. With all the concern about cyber safety, not sure this is likely to instill confidence in parents; and not sure if I even want my children in this kind of environment knowing what I now know. This situation arose due largely to a lack on instructions and disclosure on the part of Microsoft. We exhausted all avenues to remedy what was obviously an honest mistake within hours of setting up the 12-month membership. To rub salt into the wound, we suffered through the most frustrating customer service experience filled with empty apologies that seem typical of large companies these days.

I bought an Xbox 360, had it one month and the red ring hit the system. The system was returned, I got a new system and now it doesn't read disks. They say the warranty has expired so now I can't use the system and it seems by internet talk that I am not the only one with this problem. I spent a total of $650 on games, controllers and live accounts and only got to use it for less than a year on two different systems. It's uncalled for and they tell me, "Too bad and buy another system." Yeah, right.

I had bought an Xbox 360 on Christmas 2007. The first two quit working within a week so I returned them. The third one, the HDMI quit working and was in warranty so I sent it to Microsoft. They said they fixed it and sent it back. This one lasted three months then overheats constantly which was three months out of the one-year warranty of course. To recap, 4 detrimental Xbox 360 problems in one year and three months. Not much time to play with those odds.

We've purchased three Xbox 360 units. I just found out about two months ago that Microsoft had extended the warranty on these units, but it was too late for one of the units as I pitched it. The 2nd unit is broken with the three red rings showing hardware failure, etc., but now they have rescinded their extended warranty. After reading other people's comments, it sounds like Microsoft is running quite a lucrative business charging $100 to get the units repaired, over and over again! This, as far as I am concerned, is fraud. If I sell something I know is going to break, I am liable. Microsoft is liable and should take responsibility to repair/replace their products with trustworthy merchandise or quit selling it. It’s money down the drain. We've spent around $1,000 on these units.

I bought an Xbox 360 just over 1 year ago. Since buying the product, I have had nothing but problems. I have had to return it to them 3 times for apparent technical problems, twice for the vaunted red eye, and once for it not being able to read discs. The last time it malfunctioned, I had only had it back for just under 3 months. I have repeatedly asked the operators at their customer support number for information on what they are doing to resolve the problem only to be told each time that they could not speak about that. This is becoming increasingly annoying as I not only paid 400+ dollars for the system but then had to shell out an additional 100 dollars the second time I sent it back as they told me the warranty had expired. It was then that I had to pay to get an extended warranty as I feared the same problem may arise, which it has and again I was told in polite terms basically, "we won't answer questions, just send it back." It occurs to me that not only am I being sold bad merchandise but I am also being handcuffed to it by this thug of a company. Please, if you have advice, I would be eager to hear it.

I am very disappointed in the Xbox 360. I got the dreaded three rings before last Christmas, so I sent in my console. I got it back the first week in January and within three days I got three rings again. I sent my console back in again and I got it back on February tenth. Once again I got three rings on February 14th and I have to send it again. I'm very frustrated with this situation. I've talked to other Xbox 360 owners that have gone through this problem before, and they have suggested to me that I buy another Xbox 360 console. My response to that suggestion is that is crazy! You mean to tell me that I have to buy two Xbox 360 consoles to do the work of one?
I have a friend that I recommended that he buy a Xbox 360 for his family for Christmas. He bought an elite brand new one from Best Buy and it had three rings. He took it back and got another new elite, and it had three rings as well. Now I'm sorry for suggesting it to my friend, so that is example of why buying a new Xbox 360 will not get me out of this situation. I was lifelong PlayStation owner. I switched over a year ago because I thought that Microsoft was the future of gaming.
Now I believe that I will switch back to PlayStation due to Microsoft's inability to build and sell a quality product to its consumers, and I will tell everyone I know online and in real life to do the same. This is a very sad day for me because investing in your product was a waste of my time and money, which I'm in short supply of both of these commodities in my life right now.

Last Christmas, my 9-yr-old son got an Xbox 360. He was overjoyed, all he asked for! 3 months later, ring of death! Call up Xbox. YES, they're gonna fix it! I have the 1-year warranty which really isn't 1 year. It's 10 months. You have to call them and send copy of receipt! So their fix time is nearly a month! I felt like Microsoft could use more money and bought another piece of junk that would break as well within 2 months and this one was the Halo special edition Xbox 360... I bought an Xbox 360 that was bad. I sent it in to Microsoft. They sent me another one that was bad. I called them and now they want to charge me one hundred dollars to repair the defective Xbox360 they sent me after I originally spent 500 dollars purchasing the first one. It's a damn rip off and I'm fed up with this getting over people who spend their hard-earned money for this product and don't get their money's worth.

I bought this XBox 360 system a little over a year ago for my son for Christmas. I paid $400 for it new. This weekend, he was playing it and it just shut down and will not power back on. A friend brought over his power cord and it still won't power on. There is no sign of any physical damage. Microsoft needs to replace these defective items. They are too expensive just to run to the store to replace.

I had my Xbox 360 broken 3 times, and had it sent back to get fixed and every time, they promise it won't break down but it did. I talked to about five different supervisors. They couldn't help me about this pesky problem. I paid too much money for this system. I know that Microsoft came out with a new motherboard so the system won't have frequent breakdown. I believe that after the third time of having to send the system back for repair (3 weeks) that I should be obligated to receive a new Xbox 360 with the new motherboard called Java. I'm very tired of calling their support team for getting no help at all, just getting runarounds, waiting on hold for 30 minutes long and sometimes longer. I'm really losing my patience with Microsoft. I'm pretty sure I'm not the first to complain about this. Would someone please help me? Thank you.

This unit scratches a ring around the CD! We had thought that it was because of something we had done (move or jolted). But to our surprise, it has happened over 10 times to brand new CD games when the unit was placed on a level place and not moved at all. I bought the special addition Halo version unit and do not understand why this keeps happening! I read a few articles today that this has been happening & they (Microsoft) were aware of the problem. Can I get them to fix this problem?

I purchased a brand new Xbox 360 from our local Walmart store here in Prattville, Alabama. My children purchased several hundred dollars worth of games for this machine. They then purchased a Guitar Hero World Tour game after Christmas this year 2008. The game failed to last two nights before the cymbals began to fail, $189.99, during regular use of the game so we returned the Guitar Hero World Tour to the store and they gave us a full refund for the Guitar Hero, but then when the kids tried to play a different game in the Xbox 360, they said the game then had the red ring of death.
Well, I looked at the machine and sure as they had said, the ring had a red ring around the round start button. Little did I know that this was a popular name for the problem after calling the Game Stop store here in Prattville. I then noticed a dark brownish smoke stain on the air holes in the back of the machine that covered the back of the Xbox, letting me know the machine had come very close to starting a fire that could have cost us our lives in our mobile home. We know are stuck with several thousand dollars worth of games and a broken Xbox 360 that cost $399.99 last Christmas when I had purchased it from Walmart last year. The drum set was defective as well the right cymbal was not working either. After about an hour's worth of playing time, the yellow color quit first, then the green drum quit as well. Now I'm out a pile of money because each game cost me 60 & 70 dollars but I also live 20 miles from Walmart and I've made numerous trips and have numerous witnesses to that fact. Two of them work there at Walmart, not to speak of the many receipts for the games and machine. I just want my money or the merchandise replaced costing lord only knows how much money we have spent on games and fuel to buy this stuff. What makes this even worse is the amount of people that are complaining and Microsoft has made no attempt to recall the products.

We have had to get 5 new Xbox consoles in the past year, twice due to rings of death and 3 times because the Ethernet port didn't work. We just yesterday exchanged our Xbox for the 5th time and when we got it home and tried Xbox Live, it didn't work. No one at Xbox customer support could or would help. We are tired of taking our time to repair their problems and when we asked for 2 months of LIVE credited to our account, they refused. Even a supervisor refused any sort of compensation. One rep even hung up on us. We are truly disappointed in their product and even more so with the utter lack of respect and customer service. I am sure Bill Gates wouldn't appreciate knowing his company was so unbelievably rude and disrespectful.

When we started fighting over who could play it, I bought a 360 Elite and handed down the second one to my ten-year-old. The Elite stopped working in 21 days and is now being shipped off for warranty repairs. I will be without the unit for four to six weeks. I own PS2, WII, PS3, Game Cube, and Nintendo 64. I purchased an XBOX 360. After returning it to Microsoft two times for the same faulty issue, on the third time they returned to me a refurbished console (which I protested). The refurbished console has the same faulty issue. After contacting "customer" service, fourth time, I spoke with Sam and asked very politely and professionally about receiving a new console, which I don’t think is absurd (fourth time! same issue, even with a refurbished console). My intelligence was insulted when "Sam" asked several questions like "can you plug your console into a friend’s outlet?" I then asked If could speak with the head of customer service or at least have my information given to them for a call back. The answer was they do not accept calls and I was finally "hung up" on! If my circumstance of 4 faulty Xbox 360 consoles does not warrant an audience with the head of customer service, then I assume faulty electronics is everyday business for XBOX/MICROSOFT.

I purchased my Xbox 2 years ago. Within months it had to be sent back because of faults. The product was purchased in November and just months later when I phoned Xbox (infamous) customer support, I was informed that I had an older model that was likely to have faults. "So when did this new model get released with no faults?" I asked. 6 months ago was the reply. So why on earth had I been able to buy an Xbox, that knowingly had faults by the manufacturer, 3 months after the issue of new consoles? Now to cut a long story short, my box has been for repair 3 times since I owned it. Why should I have to pay to have a product repaired that never functioned properly in the first place? BILL GATES, sort your house out or there will be an exodus to PLAYSTATION - Call Of Duty 4 kept millions hooked but you don't have a game like that anymore and will struggle to emulate it. Oh! and 1 last thing, Mister GATES. I would like to refresh your memory with a quote from your own lips, "PlayStation could sell a box of bricks and people would still buy it." Now that sounds like the pot calling the kettle black!
I have spent well in excess of 2000 pounds on Xbox products(and I have a game reward card to prove it) and feel ripped off that I only have 2 choices about my faulty console: 1. pay 60 pounds to have it repaired (the same repair I've had 3 times for free that never worked) and if it is unrepairable I will get a replacement console; or 2. purchase a new updated console (the 1 I thought and should have been given for my money) for 129.99.

I asked about the game that was stuck in the old one and told me that their policy is they do not ship the console with the game. The game will come separately.
They confirmed that the game was there after waiting weeks for our game. I called again to see what's taking so long and to my surprise they told me that there was no game in the console. Imagine my anger. One of the many supervisors that I spoke to pretty much said that there is nothing they can do. They told me that they would send me some other game for my troubles. They mentioned that we could have refund points which we don't want. This has taken up so much more time than is necessary. There should be a representative that you can speak to with some immediate resolution. THIS HAS BEEN and unreasonable waste of my time. It is the principle that when an honest error has been made, by a disabled person that we can not get a refund without having to go through hoops.

My father bought me an Elite one when I wanted a PS3 because I was damn sure it was going to fail too. Sure as ** this one only 5 weeks old with a recent production date has a new flashing red light with an E74 code. What does Xbox tell me even though the kid knows I have 4 previous failures with the other system prompting this new system? He says I have to pay for my own shipping box and instead of it being 1 week like last time, it's 3-4 weeks. After I just bought Gears of War 2 and Call of Duty both collectors. Needless to say I'm stuck with a broken system and five games only about 5 weeks old, $850 worth of Microsoft junk.
