I have a disabled 31-yr-old son and in the past 3 years have sent 1st Xbox back many times, then gave up, bought a new one within a year (2007). That one broke down (When they break down, his game also break - at $60 each) so in July bought Xbox Elite and lasted 2-3 months - just long enough, by 1 week, so couldn't get a refund. My son is very intelligent, has been into gaming since he was 9 and he saves hard to get these things. I have several e-mails I saved to prove how many times I have dealt with these people and they told me if I file a complaint, they then can't help me!!!! My son just got out of hospital today from bleeding ulcer, comes home after a week in hospital and bam - his NEW Xbox ate his John Madden!!! Is there a class action lawsuit or anything we can do, as my son is physically disabled and this stress just aggravates him and then he worries how to save up for new one and money to replace the game!!! Is this fair??

We have an XBox360 that we were experiencing problems with, AGAIN!!! The hard drive keeps going out. They have replaced it twice... and here we go again. Only this time, they want to charge $99.00 plus taxes to fix it. This would give us a year's warranty... but why should I have to pay when it KEEPS GOING BAD??? I ask why they keep having problems when ALL my other game systems have NEVER gone bad right down to my GameCube that I have had for ages. They had no answer.

Received Xbox December 2007, by July 2008 the bottom right red light on xbox live console lit up. Called customer service and found that the hard drive was corrupted. Sent old HD to customer repair service in TX for a refurbished HD. The problem; we had an XBOX live account. We understood, with a new HD we would lose any accomplishments on game play. Which in retrospect seems wrong from the start. The big problem... cannot access xbox live account. We've put in literally days of calling customer service, and have sent countless emails to live. All we keep getting are the same replies on how to reset the live account. Wonderful if that were the whole problem. None of the email, password we have tried works! Xbox live doesn't get it. We cannot retrieve anything on the console. Another call to the live help desk. Again and again to be told to reset the live account. I've spent hours calling game retailers, even Geek squad trying to find answers, to no avail.

I received a new copy of Mass Effect for the 360 as a gift. The copy was defective out of the box. I called Xbox customer support to have it replaced/repaired, where I was instructed by an agent to send it to the following address: Repair Center, 5700 S. International Park Way, Door #18, McAllen, TX 78503. I sent the disc via USPS through their standard mail option (i.e. stamps) on August 18th, 2008. I was never instructed by the agent that I would need a tracking number or that I would need a specific shipping option.
In early September, I called Xbox support to inquire about the status of the repair. I was informed by the agent that the repair center never received the disc, and I should check with my chosen carrier to verify delivery of the disc. I called USPS and over the course of a week they returned my phone call, informing me that the time for an errant mailing to return to my address had elapsed and the disc was most assuredly delivered to the McAllen location.
I called Xbox support to inform them of this development, and it was here that I was told the agent I initially spoke with gave me the wrong address. The agent told me he was escalating my case to his supervisor, but I would need to provide a tracking number to prove I sent the disc. As I had not been instructed to pursue a delivery method requiring a tracking number, this was not possible. A week later, I received a call from Xbox support reiterating the above position of Microsoft, which is that I would need a tracking number.
Upon learning this I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. After the BBB validated my claim and sent a letter to Microsoft, I received another call from customer support. The agent told me that Microsoft's stance would remain the same, and that if she attempted to resolve the situation without a tracking number or receipt, her supervisors would laugh in her face. This occurred on September 28th.

We have purchased several XBox 360 consoles which are defective. One was replaced through the insurance we took out. Two units were replaced by myself purchasing them. This last unit they want to repair which the repairs still do not work. The customer service reps and tech support people are no help in giving answers. They have not operator numbers to identify them. They refuse to give out addresses of where they are located to write complaints. I am told to go to websites for information which I did only to tell me to call the 800 number above.
They will not give out anyone who has higher authority name and they tell you that person is not there. I have called 5 times on the same issue only to tell me to send the unit in for repairs. I ask if a recall was issued and they said repairs is consider a recall. These units are very expensive. I have paid 400.00 per unit with the exception of this last unit which my son paid $200.00 for. Loss of approximately $900.00 for units and insurance on the units. Mental anguish, the units continue to breakdown with the same problems which is a solid 3 red ring which does not allow you to play the unit. Must be replaced or repaired.

I bought my Xbox 360 Christmas 2007. The games have constantly frozen up including a race car game (the name of the game escapes me) that never worked from the day I purchased it. I have been hung up on my managers in customer support and been insulted by the staff. My Xbox, when sent in for repairs, would play, for example, Madden 2008 for exactly 1/2 of football and then read Unplayable Disc.
After sending the Xbox in for repairs on this issue I received a console with 3 flashing red lights and the tray would not even open. They sent me an Xbox in worse shape than the one I sent them. I get online this morning to find this website and now my nightmare is getting worse after reading all of these complaints from other consumers having the same problems I am having. Yet, nothing is being done. What can we do? I want my money back!

My son's xbox 360 just stopped working one day so I went online to start a repair order. I was told online that a box would be sent to me. I waited two weeks, no box. I called the xbox number, and spoke to a guy. He stated that they stopped sending boxes and that I would have to mail the console in. Okay, no big deal, so I waited to be emailed the instructions. A week later, nothing, I went online to check my status and was told my status was cancelled. I called xbox back. I was told my address was not showing up in their systems, so they could not repair my xbox. I have lived in this house for 10 years. I live in the middle of town and get ups and fedex deliveries all the time. I asked to speak to a sup, was put on hold for 45 minutes, hung up and called back. This time spoke to another kid. He stated that I needed to be more civil when I called, and then he hung up on me after promising I was going to speak to a supervisor.
I called back again, this time got an India based agent. He said he could do nothing for me and transferred me again to a supervisor. No joke, I have been on hold for 35 minutes again. I finally get a supervisor, and all he does is talk over me, and then hangs up on me, so I call back (4th time!!) and again am told my address is not valid. They stated that they can do nothing for me. I finally had to give them an address in an entirely different town to get them to process the repairs. It took me 4 hours to get this resolved. The agent could not answer basic questions, such as, "do I need to insure the box when I send it? how do I take out the hard drive?" Waste of 3 hours and a lot of emotional toll.

My Xbox came down with what Microsoft calls the 3-rings of death. I sent them my box in its original container. I received my Xbox back in a used box. After plugging it in I discovered that it had not been repaired. I contacted Xbox/Microsoft via mail, phone and email to get this problem resolved. After paying for shipping the first time, I refused to pay for shipping the second time. Considering their repair center never repaired my Xbox, they should be held accountable for the shipping this time. I've gotten nothing but a runaround from Microsoft. All I want is for Microsoft to pay for my Xbox to be shipped back since they didn't fix it the first time.

This unit died after 9 months of use. What a wonderful way for my family to spend time together in an evening, playing Guitar Hero 3, or I and my son, playing any one of the Halo games. When the machine quit functioning, I dutifully sent it to Microsoft and they shipped it back within two weeks (what they shipped back was a refurbished unit, even though they state that they will replace it if it's less than a year old). No hard drive. I called customer support and they claimed that it never had a hard drive with it. They closed the case and now, I am having to wait for them to call me back after my third call to them. I've looked into replacing the hard drive and it may cost me $100 to $140. My son cried after I told him that we would not be buying any more Xbox 360 games. We have a Sony PS3 that we are very happy with so far that we bought for Blu-Ray. It has built in Wi-Fi and I haven't heard nearly as many nightmare stories about it.

The year before last I purchased a Xbox 360. Shortly after purchasing the Xbox, it would constantly freeze on my with new games then eventually it started flashing three red lights. I tried to return it to Walmart because it wasn't even 3 months after purchasing it that it happen. I called 1-800-4my-xbox and had a repair order created and had it repaired. Eventually it started doing the same thing again, freezing. I called Xbox again but they gave me some steps to take as far as the corrupted memory on the hard drive. It seemed to work at the time but was assured that if it happened again they would just give me a new Xbox.
Maybe the agent shouldn't have told me false statements because eventually it happen again!!!! Yet when I call fed up about my Xbox 360, I'm told that the warranty has expired by 3 weeks and if I wanted it repaired again for the same issues that I thought I got it fixed for the last time, I would have to pay another $70. This is ridiculous.... How can I be 100% sure that it will really get fixed this time?!?

I find it hard to believe that Microsoft is still selling the Xbox 360, and for that matter, that people are still buying it. I will be sending out my Xbox 360 for repair for the THIRD time. The first time was the infamous 3 red lights, the second time the CD loader broke and would not load discs, and the third time the video and audio just died.
The real fun part about this time is that they sent me a 'refurbished' console registered to another user. So, when I called them this time and gave them the serial number, they said that I would have to pay $99 bucks to get it fixed because it is out of warranty. Then they asked me if I bought the console on eBay because it was registered to someone else. I said no, I bought it brand spankin' new and I have the receipt in my hand to prove it.
Next, they said that a supervisor would contact me the next day between 8-10PM. At 11:30AM, a supervisor called and left a message that he would be out of the office for the next 2 days and to leave a message on his voicemail describing the issue(s). It has now been 5 days since that call and I have not heard a thing. There is something REALLY, REALLY wrong with the way that Microsoft is handling this. It is not the consumer’s fault that they produced a product and released it fully aware of the many faults and possible failures. They need to pony up, admit they are idiots and thieves and do a FULL recall on ALL units.

I purchased an Xbox 360 that Microsoft produces. They released the Xbox 360 for the public to purchase at $450.00 per console and they knew it had a design flaw. I have purchased LOTS of games and accessories for this console and I have what most Xbox 360 users have Red Ring of Death. A known defect that Microsoft is aware of. I called Microsoft to get a shipping tag so I can send the Xbox 360 in for repair. I’m still waiting on the packaging that Microsoft is suppose to send me.
I have invested a lot of money into this product and I cannot use the product. I also did some research and a lot of people have the same issue. I even signed a petition that Microsoft should give every person that purchased the Xbox 360 their money back and the money that was spent on games and accessories. Microsoft knew that the Xbox 360 has a design flaw and still released it for purchase and that in itself is fraud. I want my money back for the Xbox 360 and all the games and accessories I have purchased, and Microsoft should give me my money back so I can purchase a new video game system that really works.

I bought an xbox for my son not even a year ago and already he has experienced the three rings of death. I contacted xbox and was told that sure, they all break, and that they try and fix them. I questioned why they would sell something that isn't perfected and i was told because its awesome.
I asked why they continue to sell it when I was told about 80% of consumers have to send and resend their system back and was told again because its awesome. I received no explanation and was just told to send it back. I was told it may be refurbished or it may be new but you will never know. He also told me I will probably have to send it back more times because it will break again.
I have wasted $350 that I spent on something that is continuously breaking, that is being still sold as we speak with glitches in it, and is expected to be returned at least 3 or four times. That is consumer robbery and there should be someone out there to protect us.

i have purchased 2 xbox 360 for may family and both of these systems have failed. The first one was out of warranty so I paid xbox $50 to send me a refurbished system. It lasted a few months and is not working. We bought another 360 elite fro $499.99 from xbox in Feb 2008 and purchased a replacement plan. However, we just called xbox directly and they sent us a box and said they would fix it. We got it back and it worked for 1 day. We then realized we had paid the for the replacement plan at Best Buy $80 and took it there. They said sorry, the serial numbers do not match because you sent it in to Xbox and they sent you a refurbished 360.
I just got off the phone with xbox and I have to send it back to them and they will monitor this repair and MAY send me a new one. Regardless, why is microsoft allowed to sell systems that do not work? Also, if the system doesn't break that does not mean you don't have problems. the discs are also easily scratched and quit working. The system makes some kind of grinding noise and then the disc has these rings on them and they eventually quit working. These games are 50 to 60 dollars a piece. We have spent so much money on these games.
This must be one of the biggest scams going on today. When you call customer service you are on the phone for over an hour I guess because there are so many of us complaining and getting systems supposedly repaired. Consequences are mainly monetary. Also, upset children and parents. I am so irritated! Please stop microsoft or make them give you a new system when they break.

I have owned and still own many video game systems that have worked flawlessly for years. In fact, my original atari 2600 still works after 20+ years of service.

I realize now that XBOX is not willing to honor the warranty on my console and is just delaying the process so my warranty expires or I give up, well I won't. I have documented and recorded every conversation with Mike, Angelo,... and everyone else and I will initiate a formal complaint with the BBB. I spent a lot of money on this console and I have read online that this situation has happened to many others!

I received my Xbox as a Christmas Gift from my parents in 2006. I since have purchased well over 20 games, became an Xbox Live Gold Member and stayed loyal to the company as competition tried to ****** Microsoft's customer base away by releasing other systems (Wii, PS3). In September of 2008 my Xbox stopped working and scratched a game I had just purchase..I felt that not only did I loose my machine, but my 60 Dollars I just spent for a new game has gone to waste. I called Xbox and after a phone directed diagnostic test, I was told that they would provide extended Warranty coverage and pay for the shipping for me send the system in for repair. I was told that they would take my damaged Xbox and send me back a new one.
After some research, I discovered that I had what they call the 3 Rings of Death. I paid a package store 20 dollars to properly pack the xbox and send it in using the shipping label microsoft provided. I was sending the Xbox down to Texas in the wake of Hurricane Ike concerned that it could be damage along the way. Well to my surprise I received the Xbox back fairly quickly, with a note saying that they were excluding my warranty. I called the Customer Service center very angered at this and asked why this was done. I was told that this was done because they beleived I tampered with the Xbox. I never did anything of such nature. I am furious..all I did was what they asked me to do...I unhooked the cables, removed my hard drive and sent the xbox in for repair and for this I am falsley accused of tampering with the system. I never touched it, tried to open it, dropped it, etc..
Microsoft knows that they have put a defective product out into the market and this is the way they avoid absorbing the liability for that. I have been robbed of my $400 and a Fortune 500 company is saying Tough Luck! I really feel like this is an injustice and that Microsoft has a corrupted view on its handling of their defective product. I will never purchase a microsoft product again. I will make it a pont to let everyone know about my loss
I have lost not only the 400 dollars spent on the system I have lost my Xbox live membership...and with the useless games...thousands of bucks.

The XBox 360 that we bought our 12 year old son crashed. 3 red lights. After a lot of hassle we returned it to Microsoft who said they would repair it and give us a further warranty because it was a known problem. They sent it back and within 3 hours it had crashed again. We returned it a second time. They sent it back unrepaired because my 12 year old had peeled a sticker off and Microsoft said it voided the warranty!
I phoned the customer services number and after listening to elevator music for most of the night and repeating my information to the very polite representative (almost too polite!!), I asked to be put through to a supervisor. I got cut off! I phoned again and finally got through to a supervisor who told me the same thing. Your warranty is void because you removed the sticker. I asked to speak to her superior. She said she didn't have one that she could put me through to, or even a name that I could write to.
By now I understood that Microsoft doesn't want to solve this problem and doesn't care about it's customers. I will be writing to the address I was given, where I'm sure my letter will read by some admin assistant who will promptly file it in the rubbish bin, which is where the XBox is!

My Xbox 360 is displaying the far too common Red Ring of Death or in other words the 3 blinking red lights and an inoperable Xbox 360 console. I called to report need for a warranty repair on Thursday August 21, 2008. I was told in 24-48 hours I would receive an email with a shipping label attached which I never received. On August 26, 2008 I called XBOX again to report that I did not receive the email.
The repair ticket was closed in order to be reopened since the telephone operator did not know how to resend an email, as simple as it sounds that's all there was to it, resend me the email that I never received. I was told I would definitely receive a new email within the next 24-48 hours. Today August 27, 2008 approximately 24 hours after the most recent phone call, I called to check the status of the second email that I haven't received. None of my questions could be answered and the telephone operator was hesitant to redirect my call to his supervisor.
On my third call 6 days later than the initial call I had to request a box be mailed to my home address in order to mail my Xbox 360 to the Microsoft Service Center. I cannot depend on Microsoft to electronically mail me a shipping slip to my Microsoft hosted email account. I was notified by the telephone operator's supervisor Ryan that I would receive the box in 3 to 5 days. 3 to 5 business days from today when the initial call was made 6 days ago is completely unreasonable and unacceptable. 17 days later I haven't received the e-label or the physical box. Microsoft is completely ignoring my attempts to send the defective product into their service center.

My Xbox is one of the ones with the blank screen fault, another very common problem caused by dry solder joints and/or video card fault. This fault however has not been covered by the 3 year extended warranty even though it is as common!
My daughter is left without her main toy and with Christmas just around the corner and the UK credit crunch, i just cannot afford to get this repaired. I have been an owner of many consoles throughout the year and the Xbox and Xbox360 are an absolute disgrace!

My Xbox 360 has no video output, just audio. it is out of warranty by about 10 months. Microsoft wants $99 to fix it and they know it is a problem with many Xbox 360 consoles. Since it is an obvious defect with the 360 console Microsoft needs to repair their product free of charge.
I want Microsoft to either Repair or Replace my Xbox 360 console free of charge and to extend the warranty in case of same future problems.

I bought an X-Box 360 in good faith, and within 1 hour the poorly designed $550 console broke. I believe the flaw was called the red ring of death. I went in to EB games, it was replaced and all was well. A year later the same thing happened. So not only had I been sold 1 but 2 flawed consoles. My warranty with EB games had expired, however It was still covered by Microsoft's supposed extended 3 year warranty for the red ring.
I patiently called customer service and they verified that my X-Box had the red ring, and that If I sent it in according to the instructions it would be replaced. I followed the instructions perfectly. It was sent back without specific explanation. I was sent an piece of paper simply saying I had voided warranty (and did not say how). I have read the warranty many times and to the best of my knowledge I had NOT voided it in any way. That X-box had been perfectly cared for and when I sent it in to be fixed I made sure it had a sufficient amount of bubble wrap to protect it during transit.
I spend $550 on my xbox, and $1350 worth of accessories that are useless without the console. I have all receipts. However I am doubtful of a legal remedy as I threw the broken console in the bin and it cannot be used as evidence.

I once again refused this generous offer and once again stated my case of this being an overheating issue similar to the ring of death. We have returned our Xbox 360 twice since Aug of 2007 for service repairs both times it was gone for a month or more and now for the third time (less than a year in my opinion) it needs repaired yet again. Xbox (Microsoft) say we must pay the repair because the warranty (1yr) ran out on 8/1/08. They had it for 2 of the months that we should have warranty but ran it out taking thier time to get our console back to us in a timely manner.
Now all they will do is 25% off the bill but we feel that Microsoft (Xbox) is treating their customers unfairly. There should be NO charge the warranty is out by 25 days and they kept it for more than 60 on 2 differnt occasions for repairs already. The Xbox 360's are very expensive and it wasn't easy to part with that much money for a game system when we have 6 children to take care of but we did based on the assumption Microsoft was a reputable company that had great products. This console if 1 year and 25 days old and has been out of commission 3 times.
They want $100 to fix something that shouldn't be broke again.

We purchased an xbox 360 and also purchased the extended warranty for it. Along with thousands of other consumers that purchased the system ours had the "red rings", "rings of death", "RROD" problem. We contacted the company for where to return it. Was told to remove the face plate, the hard drive and where to ship it. That is exactly what we did. We packed it, shipped it and 7 days later it was returned to us with the silver microsoft label/sticker half pulled off and crinkled up with a letter from the company stating that "we" had tampered with the console and thus we voided our warranty. I was and am so angry over this.
WE DID NOT SHIP IT WITH THE SILVER STICKER TAMPERED WITH, AT ALL! WE NEVER, TOUCHED THAT LITTLE STICKER. I REPEAT WE DID NOT SHIP IT TO THE SERVICE CENTER IN THAT CONDITION BUT THEY CERTAINLY RETURNED IT TO US TAMPERED WITH. WHAT DID MICROSOFT HAVE THEIR SHARE OF CONSUMERS SYSTEMS THAT THEY HAVE HAD TO REPLACE SO NOW "THEIR" EMPLOYEES ARE VOIDING WARRANTIES THAT CONSUMERS HAVE PURCHASED AND PAID EXTRA FOR?
I have contacted the "call center" as this is the only # we seem to be able to obtain to deal with this issue, but they do nothing but continue to tell us that the service center is upholding their decision that we tampered with the product before we shipped it. How ludicrous is that, why in the sam hel/ would we purchase an extended warranty and then sabotage it. That's absurd, insulting, and totally ticks me off. Supposedly they, the service center has pictures of the product showing we tampered with it.
Well what they don't have I'm sure is a picture showing the system with the sticker in tact the way we shipped it, the way they received it, BEFORE, they tampered with it, then had the nerve to return it to us with a rejection letter. WELL I WANT SOMETHING DONE. I WANT TO KNOW HOW MANY OTHER CONSUMERS HAVE HAD THIS TERRIBLE, INEXCUSABLE EXPERIENCE AND WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT. I am going to continue to visit complaint websites and post my complaint in hopes of getting something resolved.
Warning to all purchasers of xbox 360, don't be shocked if you receive your xbox 360 in "tampered condition" back from Microsoft warranty service center, as apparently their employees are dishonest and worse microsoft evidently seems to think that's o.k. Well let me be fair, they have at least 1 dishonest employee who doesn't have a problem voiding warranties for customers.
You know I'd love to see a video from the second our system was received at the warranty center and then every stop of what happened next. A video of the the box being received, opened, the console examined with the sticker in place. I'm sure they didn't take pictures of that. Then they'd have to be responsible and worse....HONEST. Of course they have pictures of the sticker half removed, "tampered with" we do to, NOW. How convenient for Microsoft.
We threw money away. In good faith we purchased an extended warranty and could have just flushed our cash as easily. I made phone calls to the call center just to go from frustrated to angry at their lack of willingness to stand behind their product and our warranty. I bet my high blood pressure was off the charts. What a way to treat consumers.

First, I had a bought an Xbox 360 off ebay which is perfectly legal in every way and even paid for it like any other Xbox customer has. A few months later my Xbox experienced a hardware malfunction and required me to send it to repair. So I called the xbox customer support number, the only the number available and they filed a case number and gave all of my information. I was informed that I would be sent the necessary shipping labels.
After a week had passed with no results, I called them back and found that my repair order had all my information misspelled so I ended up opening a new order, and made sure all my information was correct. I was notified that my warranty was about to expire as well, but since I had just opened this new case, they would extended by 90 days. They also said I would have my Xbox 360 back in full repair 2-3 weeks after I ship it out. I received my shipping labels within 5 minutes via email and sent it out the next day.
Four weeks had passed until i finally called them back, fed up with waiting due to the fact that the package had arrived at the repair center 5 days after I shipped it according to the tracking number, and I spoke to an agent who finally connected me to a supervisor who told me that my Xbox 360 is in the warehouse and that they must have not scanned it in and that I would get a call back within 2 days confirming the status of my product. Of course, 4 days passed until I finally received a call in which a lady named Tiffany from the support center asked me my tracking number and that she would call me back the next day with more information. She called back 2 days later, only to tell me that I have to wait another 4 days.
And so that day finally came, and she called me back asking where I purchased this product and if I had proof of purchase. I gladly told her and she notified me that Ebay was not an authorized dealer and that I have to pay for COD to receive my Xbox back UNREPAIRED! This shocked me of course, and I asked for more information, to which she replied she would call me back in 2 days on Tuesday Aug 26. I said fine because obviously she couldn't further assist me, so she hung up. I proceeded to call the the Xbox customer support hotline which provided no further assistance and countless hours of holding and requesting supervisors only to be notified that my Xbox is still in the warehouse and that there is a special team of supervisors working on my case which are unaccessible.
It has been 5 weeks already and I am receiving the same old information, I was already outraged at how long it is taking and now I am finding out that it can't even be repaired and i have TO PAY TO GET IT BACK? I don't understand it. Why did they even accept my warranty and the serial number on the XBOX 360 and verified that they will repair it free of charge. And now, I have to PAY? And I'm not even getting it repaired?
I feel as if I am in a hostage situation and feel like Xbox is extorting me. Theres seems to be no reasonable way out. I also have to work on their schedule since I cannot get an adequate phone number to call to know what is really going on with my console. This is purely unacceptable. I have felt second class citizen or less then human. the way I have treated with emirates airline crew as well as there customer affair office.

I got an XBOX 360 in February 2007. It has been a constant problem since I got it. The first problem was the RED RING OF DEATH, the system was repaired free of charge. Next it started scratching my games until they are unreadable, it freezes up while playing and it is constantly overheating, now to top it off I have SOUND BUT ABSOLUTELY NO PICTURE. I did my homework to see if this was a common problem or if I was the only one having it and of course just like the RED RING OF DEATH it is a problem lots of people are having. I did all the troubleshooting and even replaced the cord before calling the 800 # for assistance.
While researching the problem I found out that this is a general hardware failure and they are aware of the problem because countless other people are having it. I was very unhappy with the service I recieved because the rep made me go through all the troubleshooting again, and it still didn't work. I let her know ahead of time it wasn't going to because I had already done it all. She then told me that I would have to pay $100 to have my system repaired because I had no proof that this was not a problem I caused. I think when you can go online and type in the problem and pull up other people with it then that should be enough proof.
I called back and spoke with a supervisor and explained again and he said all he could do is ofer me 50% off the repair bill. I told him consumers should not be responsible for a repair bill on a fauly system. It is there fault it is happening so why in the world should we have to pay to fix it. I continued to try and resolve this problem with them but they still offered only the 50% off and told me that is all they can do. They took no responsiblity for this at all they blamed it on the fact that the warranty they extended for the RED RING OF DEATH had expired.
No one told me when the warranty would expire. Then they told me if I was not gonna send my system in for repair that they were gonna close my case and I haven't heard a word since. This is unacceptable. I paid entirely to much money for this system to be treated like this. They are ripping people off and that is not right. They know their system has these problems because they get numerous complaints. They should have to fix these problems.

Mine was working perfect untill What they call the (Red light of Death) started flashing around the power button. My sytem is only 9 months old and is luckily under warranty.
But microsoft needs to be responsible if known problems exist and recall them and then fix them! With whatever upgrades need to be done heat sinks on the processors or extra fans or whatever makes these problems go away. Companies like microsoft that make that much money should stand up and fix what is broke and maintain the customer base they have so people will continue to buy! These systems Rock until they crash.

I bought my Xbox 360 around Christmas 2006. I have at least 7 friends that have ALL sent their Xboxes back for a variety of reasons, so listening to their advice I didnt want to register my console until my mine broke. The first day I had it the red lights came on and said please contact Xbox customer support (so I had to call and they asked for my serial # and registered it against my wishes), but it started working minutes later, so I just played.
Now, 18 months later my Xbox has 1 red light (controller 4 slot) with Error 74 displaying on the TV. I wish it was the red ring of death, because that is the only problem that is covered by the 3 year warranty. Apparently, if the machine gets too hot and causes hardware damages that is my fault. So, Im waiting for my shipping label and after literally cussing out the rep and 2 supervisors I got my repair for $50 instead of $100 (great deal huh?).
My console is always well ventilated and I take care of it like its a child. They are sending me back a fixed console with a new 1 year warranty and I plan to do everything short of using it as a bath toy to ensure it breaks before the 1 year expires. I have never had a system completely stop working like this. Even though the original Nintendo required crazy tricks to make it work (everyone had their own secret way), it still works and its around 20 years old.
This console was $300. I have about 15 games at $60, so $900(not including the ones I've traded in). Accessories Rock Band kits, guitar hero, controllers, rechargeable batteries, charger, etc. $???

On April 8, 2008 $125.00 was charged to my bankcard. I received an alert from my bank that activity had occurred. I knew that these charges had to be fraudulent because I hadn't purchased anything using my bankcard that day. I went on line and noticed that the charges were from Microsoft. As soon as Microsoft's Xbox support line opened I phoned them to report the fraudulent charges and to report that my gamer tag had been hacked and stolen.
I spoke to several different supervisors and was told my case had been elevated to the highest level (due to the fraudulent charges) and I would receive a call from their legal department within two weeks. I was not able to speak to the legal department directly to check the status of my claim. It seems the Microsoft is aware that a problem exists, but they are unwilling to do much about it. The next day, April 9, 2008 I received a call from a friend of mine; his gamer tag had just been stolen also.
With the information that my friend gave me, I was able to find out what my personal information had been changed to. I called Microsoft's Xbox support line to provide them with this information. They found my profile. The hacker had paid to have the name of my gamer tag changed using my bank card. Because of this, Microsoft told me that they could not yet give my profile back because they had to confirm that it was mine.
On April 22, 2008 (two weeks later) I phoned Microsoft Xbox support line again because I had not received a call back from them as promised. I again spoke to several supervisors and was told I would definitely receive a call within one week. One week later on April 29, 2008 I called Microsoft Xbox support line because once again I had not received a phone call as promised. I spoke to supervisors again; their solution was to give me a credit for 3 months of Xbox Live and was told to start over. This was not a solution to my problem. My original gamer tag had hundreds of dollars worth of downloaded content and thousands and thousands of hours of playtime, saved games and achievements (along with the status that I had worked hard to achieve and maintain.) When I brought this information to the supervisor's attention I was told that I would receive my achievements and downloaded content credited to my new gamer tag. Once again I was told I would receive a call within a week.
On May 6, 2008 I called Microsoft Xbox support line again because as usual I had not received a call as promised. The supervisor this time told me that they could not refund my achievements, status, access to my game saves, or my downloaded content. The most conservative estimate of the value for the lost downloaded content is $225. Although you can not put a value on the time I spent playing on my original gamer tag that I no longer have access to due to Microsoft's inability or unwillingness to reimburse my achievements, status, game saves and downloaded content, I feel that I should be compensated for the money I spent on downloading, also I should be compensated for my lost playing time as will as the aggravation and time spent dealing with Microsoft and not getting a satisfactory solution. Hundreds of dollars worth of downloaded content and thousands and thousands of hours of playtime, saved games and achievements along with the status that I had worked hard to achieve and maintain.

Last Spring we were burglarized. Luckily no one was home but my 12 year old son was devastated. The burglar took all his game systems. He was left without the various ones he had collected through the years from Christmas and Birthdays. My heart sank for him but I kept telling him that the insurance was going to replace what he lost and that made him feel a little better. Well needless to say, the insurance did not give the full value of the systems due do deductibles and depreciation, therefore, in the end there was not enough to replace what he had lost.
In August he decided to get with the money the XBOX 360. He was delighted even though in the first week we had to go back to Target and return it because it had stopped working. I reminded him that his friends had mentioned that XBOXES have problems of breaking down. We had never experience this with the previous NINTENDO systems. We got it replaced and now it is broken again. I've tried to see how we can repair it. I see many options on line but I'm afraid to get ripped off. I could send it back to Microsoft and have it repaired by them at the price of over $100.00 but it seems unfair considering the price of the system to begin with.
I was telling my son yesterday that if Microsoft had all these systems coming in for repair soon after the warranty ran out they would be making millions in repair fees. It seem unfair to the consumer. Is there anything that can be done. Who knows? I'm just trying to air my frustration. Thanks for listening. Mean while I feel that my son was also cheated.

I purchased an xbox 360 in March/April 2006. I had a problem with the Power Brick. I purchased a warranty plan with the system...so I sent it back to Microsoft (Xbox 360). They sent me another Power Brick. Now, back in June of 2008...my console got the 3 red rings of death. Again, I called support...they sent a box for me to ship the console back to them for repair. Took about 3 weeks. I got the console back...and THE DAY I got the console back...I started it up once...got onto xbox live to check friends e-mails...shut the system down, and re-started it about an hour later and my POWER BRICK went Red. (Malfunctioning)
I,again, called customer support...they told me to send the power brick back to them for repair/replacement. I did so. About 2 weeks later I got the power brick back...but it was USED! It had no power cord going from the brick itself to the wall outlet...(they told me to ship the wall outlet cord with the power brick). And it was covered in dust...had ,what looked like dust particles from a smokers house in the vents for the power brick, and a frayed/sliced cord leading to the power brick! I couldn't believe they would send a customer, being a multi billion dollar company,a repair/replacement in this terrible shape. My original broken power brick looked better than this!
So...I called xbox customer support again...they told me to ship it back. I told them I had already paid $12 plus dollars to 2-3 day priority mail the last one i sent them...and that I didn't want to incur ANOTHER shipping expense for something that wasn't my fault. I talked to a so-called supervisor...(Alex)...who said he would ship me a NEW power brick AND power cord to the wall outlet...back to me...and see what he could do to expedite the shipping. That was 3 weeks ago!
On approximately July 21st I called support AGAIN to tell them i did not yet receive my power brick/cord replacement. The woman on the other end said I should get it Thursday the 24th. The 24th came and went...no new power brick and cord. I AGAIN called customer support on July 26th, 2008 and complained I didn't yet receive the replacement. She told me to wait to midweek of the following week!
As I write this, it is July30th 2008...and I still have seen no power brick/cord replacement from them. I have been dealing with this for about 6 weeks now...and still have not got my xbox 360 up and running. I feel that their customer support leaves a lot to be desired...and have about got ready to give up on them...and ever getting satisfaction.
Money spent on shipping...starting to lose out on xbox live (i pay a yearly fee for access....although they gave a 1 month pass for it...but it's going on six weeks now.) I still do not know how long my REPAIRED console will last...(they didn't ship a new console like they had done for others). They sent me my original console back.

after all of this frustration i went online to do shop shopping and my credit card was declined for my purchase. why you ask? because the same person who hacked my daughters xbox had charged games and microsoft points on my credit card 42 days after my first complaint to xbox and after they told me they froze that account and after they told me there was only one card attached to that account. but that was not true. my husbands credit card was used to set up the account initially. so after spending 1 hour and five minutes arguing with xbox about how this could happen my daughter was online playing her 360 with a prepaid account we set up from the suggestion from xbox. guess what? the person who stole her info was online playing with her account. you have got to be kidding me
again i called xbox demanding answers. finally i was told they were trying to track this person. so you see the thief is online playing on my daughters account with all of my pwersonal info and all of her games she paid for. Still hjave not been refunded anything and it is almost two months later.

Here is the letter I sent to their customer service with no reply: I just wanted to voice my extreme displeasure with the quality of the Xbox360 and Microsoft's customer service. I purchased my original Xbox360 just over 2 years ago, and it promptly stopped working about 6 months after that. I returned it to the retailer (I had purchased an extended warranty) and was given a new one (and purchased another extended warranty), which again stopped working after less than a year.
I returned it for a third Xbox360 and purchased a third extended warranty (each extended warranty was $50), and this one again stopped working after about 6 months (the second general hardware failure). I brought it back to the retailer and they said to send it to Microsoft.
I sent the Xbox360 to Microsoft and was sent back a refurbished one which has now stopped working roughly 6 months after I received it. When I contacted Microsoft about the issue, I was told that I would have to pay a service fee of $99 which I think is outrageous after what I have had to deal with.
I have purchased more than $500 in Xbox360 accessories, more than $1500 in games, and wasted countless hours dealing with the faulty systems. The game system sits on a shelf in an air conditioned room and the only physical contact with it is when changing controllers and changing games. It is not moved, abused, or treated poorly in any way shape or form. At the moment, I am on hold with customer service waiting to speak to a supervisor and have been on hold for 33 minutes. This is unacceptable and I will never buy another Microsoft game system again.
Many hours wasted dealing with problem $150 in wasted extended warranties $99 additional to repair a faulty replacement sent to me from Microsoft

On the 19th June I bought a Xbox 360 Elite console in UK. It was a present to my visiting nephew who took it back to Israel the same day. On 21st June my nephew unpacked, connected and played with the Xbox. On 22nd June the Xbox stopped working indicating the Ring of Death, i.e. a hardware problem. On 25th June I called UK Xbox support centre and talked to a supervisor, Ms Christie Lake, who told me that in order to serve the console I will have to ship it from and back to Israel on my expense.
This contradicts what I as told in the shop originally; and, in my opinion more importantly, contradicts the Enhanced Warranty Program statement and FAQ as published on 5th July 2007 by a Microsoft Corporate Vice President Mr. Peter Moore. The full statement clearly stated: If a customer has an issue indicated by the three flashing red lights, Microsoft will repair the console free of chargeincluding shippingfor three years from the console's purchase date. Moreover in the FAQ section it also says: Q: Is this effective worldwide? A: Yes, these policies are global. The new policies are now being instituted in our customer service centers around the world, which may take a few days to fully implement.
So far Microsoft Xbox support centre in UK refuse to agree to ship (or bear the potential shipping costs) the console from Israel. Microsoft Israel office keeps on stating that they do not deal with hardware products at all.

They also sent a list of reasons why they refused to fix it, which were so varied it really seems like they're just ducking away from fixing their own problem.
I opened up my console last night, to find a piece from the circuit board just taped down, the same piece which caused the rattling. As a result, I'm having a hard time trusting their repair center.

Guess what? Microsoft billed me for 2 years on the renewal. When I called their support line the 2nd time (the 1st time their phone system hung up on me) I was told that the one charge of $49.99 was for the renewal for a new year, which I accepted. But the 2nd charge of $49.99 was for the 4 months of INACTIVITY on the account because I didn't call Microsoft to tell them what I was doing with their XBox. The support gentleman also accused me of lying about using the XBox during the February to June timeframe and I asked him How could I use the XBox if the credit card information was not valid and the account was suspended? Mr. Support didn't have an answer and told me that their billing rules were in their Terms and that they could do what ever those Terms said!
I am moving all of my computer products from Microsoft to Open Source vendors. When this next year's XBox renewal period is over I am shipping it to Microsoft with Microsoft as the return address!

It did the same thing to my other games, and, this week, it finally crashed completely. I'm so upset that I paid so much for a year and a half's worth of game play... I bought my son a nice new xbox 360 consule the so called next gen of gaming in december 2006. On the 18/06/08 it was collected by UPS due to the rrod three lights only having six months of use being a christmas present. Three weeks later i was still without a console and no news so i phoned microsoft to find out what was happening and was told they had 25 working days to repair the console and that they were very busy but it was in the system. I waited the 25 working days and phoned again to be told that they still haven't repaired it and would be sending me a brand new console instead. 30 working days went by and still no console so i phoned again and was told it was on its way and i would also be sent a free game in compensation. My nice new console arrived and worked well. In the new year of 2008 the console now only six months old starts eating games.
First to go was my Saints Row which cracked from the centre out and was unreadable then a couple of months later my Fifa 08 goes the same way but also with a nice scratch around the disc and then tonight i tried to play Grand Theft Auto 4 only to find that it ad a big scatch around the surface so i tried to watch a dvd and it just says open tray so i try a game same problem so i try another game same again and i could hear that the dvd drive was not spinning final conclusion yet another dead console.
So i phone microsoft again and explain the problem and we both decide that the dvd drive has failed and the console will need to be sent back to be repaired only this time they want 65 to do it. They said that the warranty had expired so i would have to pay but i felt that as the console was still less than 12 months old being a new console sent in july 2007 why should i have to pay to get it repaired as the new console had not lasted 12 months and nor did the old one and as xbox360's had such a poor reliability issue and the were aware of the dvd drive issue's (they do a disc replacemant program for damaged discs) and they run a 3 year warranty for the rrod because they have so many failures (which ithink is really bad i mean how can half the console have a 3 year warranty and the other half only have a 1 year warranty thats just crazy) and have updated the console twice in 12 months with the falcon update and now the jasper in august due to all the problems they have been having i dont see why i should be charged 65 to repair a console which has not lasted twelve months and would cost them no more than 10 to repair (replace the dvd drive) I feel really let down and by looking at the other complaints on this site i'm sure i'm not the only one or even the worst case (the whole situation is made worse by the fact that it my lads birthday on saturday 21/06 when he will be 13 and it will be the second birthday that he has had without his console and i'm sure he will be getting games as presents).
Microsoft do not deserve the large loyal fan base they have built by launching the xbox360 early with obvious design flaws and faults. I am fully aware of the warranty procedure that the repaired or replaced item carry's the warranty of the original but you would expect a replacement item to last more than 12 months i mean surely they have a legal obligation to supply a useable and reliable product when you part with your money if they had said in the advert be warned this product may not last more than 12 months and you still parted with your money i'd understand but when you buy something regardless of how much you expect it to work and for longer than the warranty period ie 12 months which it does appear that the xbox 360 does not do this on alot more than one occasion. But then i guess microsoft must be running low on money having to repair or replace more than 40 percent of xbox360's sold so i guess it's us that have to suffer again usual story of the mighty organisation stiffing the consumer. will have to buy a Sony Playstation 3 instead at least i'll get to play that and it's free to play online too.

According to UPS records they received the console on 5/15/08. We were told it would take 2-3 weeks to fix and return. It has been almost 5 weeks. When we call they have told us many different things for including: it never got there, it has been fixed and returned, it is lost, it is still being fixed, it is done being fixed and is being tested, it is being processed to ship back and they will call in 3-5 business days to give us a new tracking number.
Now it is 10 days later and no phone call. I have called them and they keep promising to call back. Yesterday 6/16/08 I talked with a supervisor named Andreas and he told me the xbox was deemed missing in the service center on 5/26/08 and that he would send us another refurbished xbox that was in new condition the next day and for us to call back and get a tracking number on 6/17.
We called today and the first person told us it was still being fixed, a supervisor finally admitted after I told them I knew it was lost that it was indeed lost and they are looking for it. When I asked when we would receive an xbox back they told us when they found ours. I asked what if they couldn't find ours and they told us that they would send us another one. When I asked when they would stop looking since it was officially deemed missing 3 weeks ago and send us another one he told us he didn't know. I told him I was not going to hang up until I got an answer so he hung up on me. Everyone there seems completely incompetent.
We expected to get our xbox back by my son's birthday so we bought him a new $70 game. June 6th came and went. He was very upset which gets me very upset. I purchased an xbox360 for my sons birthday, at no fault to anyone but myself, three days after buying it I fell off a chair taking it out of the closet and it smashed. I had no choice but to return to wal-mart first thing in the morning. I then purchased the xbox360 elite. The same day we took it out of the box, within twenty minutes it froze up. Unsure of the history of the xbox360 I returned to wal-mart where I was told to buy another cooling fan and use both (the bottom fan as well as the back fans) because they tend to heat up. I returned home and once again, less than an hour later it froze up. I went back to wal-mart and was told to buy a laser cleaner which had to be microsofts. I tried this, it worked for one night!
The next morning my kids put their game in the machine only to have a horrible sound come from it and the game cut in a perfect circle. The E71error came on the screen, so I called 1800-4myxbox support, only to be told it was against microsoft policy to give out names of the customer service reps who take calls but was however told it was a common error that had to do with updates, and all it required was to have the sequence button held, and well holding it down push power and wait until the dashboard comes up and it would be okay. Well, I did just that, and yes it did work, for a bit!
After thinking all was well my son and I went back out and repurchased guitar hero three, because the first one was no longer a readable disc (unreadable came on the screen.) While we were purchasing the new game (that cost alot more than the first, because it came with the guitar) we were told of microsofts machine that cleans and repairs all their discs, understanding it works wonders and we should probaly never have issues with xbox games again, and it would easily fix the first game I purchased it. Not such a good idea, because of course we got home tried it on the game, and no it doesn't work!
I called my support number once again this time I spoke to Mark. I was told their was no way to get refunded for the game, and because I opened and used the disc cleaner/repair machine their was nothing they could do because it did in fact turn on. I was already fed up and left well enough alone since my son and his friends were coming on 1 and 1/2 hours and the xbox was still working. Day three, we turn on the xbox and three red lights came on right away. We turned it off then back on and one red light was on and E79error was on my screen.
Of course I called again, but this time the response (from no name!) was were very sorry but we don't refund back money, but if you would like, for $200.00 you can send it to us and we can look at it for you, and if needed because of manufacture defect we can replace it. This is by all means the craziest thing I have ever been told, let alone from a customer service rep!
In turn, because of this total lack of care, and complete greed of this massive company, my son had a horrible birthday plus his birthday money because he spent it on the guitar for his xbox that doesn't work. I'm out not only the $500.00 for the system, but also 4 games (two guitar hero three games) $40.00 in cooling fans, $30.00 for a cleaning/repair machine, $50.00 for gaming points (never used), and I am out of money, with a completely heart broken child! After spending over $800.00 in less than one week (lets not forget the $400.00 on the fist one, in the same week) so actualy over $1200.00, they want me to send them $200.00 more and I just can't! I already have to work alot of extra too make up for the added mishap.

My son's x-box stopped working and had three red lights on the front. I looked up on the internet to see what the problem might be. I read that it was a common problem and I called the x-box repair line and they took the information and said that they would send a box to ship it to a repair center. The box arrived and I followed all the instruction they had given me and that were posted on their site. Except one! they said to remove the face plate but we couldn't get it off and I assumed that they meant any extra ones that may have been purchased separetly. So we shipped it. It took 5 days for them to receive it. It was shipped May 22/08 they received it May 27/08.
We received it back on May 30. Three days after they received it. On the outside of the box in brown marker was the word (Tamper). Inside the box was my sons console and a form letter stating it was not repaired. I called the 1-800 number to enquire why because the form letter said it could be several different reasons. The person I spoke with said they had no record of them even receiving it and to call back in 3-5 days. I called back on June 5/08 and a gentleman said someone would be calling me the next day between 1-4 in the afternoon.
In the mean time he said that they had probably opened it and found tampering. I told him that we had not opened it and that we could't even get the face plate off like they instructed. All the stickers on the back were still in tact. He said maybe when they took the face plate off the one inside was broken. I couldn't verify that because at the time I couldn't get the face plate off. He also suggested that illegal software might have been used. My son didn't have any illegal software and I ask him if his friend might have brought any to our house but he said he didn't even have an x-box. So I waited until today for my call (that didn't happen!)So I called them again and got a female. She put me through to her supervisor. He said that there was a sticker under the face plate that had been removed. I told him for a fact that no one here had opened or remved the face plate. He asked me to remove the face plate and look inside. Both my son and I tried but it din't want to come off. He said don't worry if it feels like it is going to break, it won't.
We managed to get it off and sure enough it looked like there had been a small sticker removed. I asked my son if he had removed it and he said no and that he didn't even know how to get the face plate off. The supervisor then asked where we had purchased the console and I told him Future Shop. He said maybe someone had previously purchased the console, removed what they wanted and returned it and we purchased it. It was in a brand new box and that theory seemed far fetched. So I suggested my theory which was whoever received the console to repair, removed the sticker so they wouln't have to repair the console. He said why would they go to the expense of shipping if they were going to do that. I said to save the time and expense of the repair job or the person that received it was sick of repairing them or was behind in the number of consoles they had to repair.
Needless to say I got nowhere. I am extremely confident that we did nothing wrong and there is nowhere to turn. The expense of the console is a very minor factor. I feel I got the run around for a common problem that they are having with these consoles. They didn't even check to see if that was the problem at all. It is the principle of the matter and I wonder who else they are doing this to.

we have spent hours on the phone with employees that hardly spoke english, we had to pay $100.00 twice for them to fix it (wich they did not). It has been alot of stress and waisted time for the whole process to go through every time we get it back. We are extremely frustrated.

We are now three weeks into the process of shipping the unit back and fourth again. I called Microsoft and asked to just have my son's money refunded and was told that was not Microsoft's policy. When I asked Jerry why there were no refunds - he didn't know. He would not give me his supervisor's name or number only an adress for the Microsoft XBox 360 Legal Group so that I could file a complaint with them.
Since my son's problem with this, I have read about and heard nothing but complaints of the same nature about the XBox 360 from many, many people. This is not only very poor business practice, but frustrating to the kids (or adults) that enjoy playing this kind of electronic game. Isn't there any law concerning this? Shouldn't there be a recall? Class Action law suit anybody?

I took my console and my receipt showing I had bought the 2 year plan to the store and I was told that there was nothing Walmart could do and that I needed to contact Microsoft because they would handle it. Keep in mind that I was already told the day before to bring in the console with the receipt and they would take care of it.
I contacted Microsoft and they told me that I had to get a new xbox from the place I had recieved the 2 year service plan and that there was nothing they could do about it either beacuse if I was to send it in to them it would cost me over a hundred dollars. Since then I have talked to both Walmart and Microsoft numerous times and they both keep pointing the blame at the other comapny. I am now at a dead end and not sure what to do. Walmart blames Microsoft and Microsoft tells me that it is Walmart. In the end it comes down to I purchased a 2 year service plan and no one wants to take responsibilty for it.

I sent my XBOX 360 unit in for a second repair. The first repair resulted in a debacle that required me to ship the hard drive, then the console--A process that required me two trips to the FEDEX store, and by my account, 3 hours of phone time with support.
The second issue, the dreaded RRoD, required me to again ship the unit to support. They mailed the unit back to me via fedex, and without ever notifying me the unit was shipped, only for me to call after 3 weeks of no unit and realize that the unit never made it out of the local fedex center. The unit cannot be found by fedex.
After speaking with 5 customer support reps and two supervisors, I was told to take my issue with fedex, even thought it was MS that shipped the unit. I have been without my unit for over a month, for the second time, and MS acts like this is my fault. This is the worst customer experience I have ever encountered. Meanwhile, I am paying for their XBOX Live service. At this time, my unit cannot be located and I have no clear resolution.

DVD drive failure. This is the 3rd time I had to send my Xbox 360 in. This time Microsoft asks for $99 to repair. 1st time Microsoft sent me a refurbished unit as replacement. It was dead upon arrival. Microsoft then sent me a 2nd refurbished unit which broke now.
Microsoft failed to make a record of my previous Xbox 360 history. When I called today they insisted that I had purchased the Xbox I own on Oct. 17, 2006 from a retail store. I argued that this unit is actually a refurbished unit they sent me a few months ago after my original unit had failed and the customer agent wouldn't believe me.
Luckily I found my old repair reference numbers from the bottom of my drawers, but the customer service agent still refused to admit their mistake and offer me free repair. Instead, he first tried to pressure me to pay $99, then decreased it to $75, then decreased it to $50... and I refused the offers each time. After another 30 minutes of haggling on the phone I hung up. What a waste of time. Xbox 360 is still sitting here, dead.
Invested $400 into the Xbox 360 Premium and another $1,500 into games and accessories. Previous 2 repairs took about 2 months to complete. Right now Xbox 360 is dead and sitting in my living room. I can easily afford the $50 or $100 to repair this, but it's the principle. The customer agent repeatedly made false claims only to get caught, and still he tries to extort money from me to repair a refurbished unit they sent me only a few months ago. This is ridiculous.

I was so angry I told them to just get all the charges back to my card and that I wasnt getting another repair order until they were. With this I investigated all of the complaints and I decided to try to fix it myself. With a little searching I found out how and did.
Now there are so many players on xbox live that there are constant server issues because the servers cannot handle the demand. Microsoft has sold so many of these defective consoles that they cant keep up with the online player count. If more consoles break at the same time maybe they think it will balance the demand. Now after 6 months of playing the same game online now I keep getting dropped every time I play online. They even asked me to play at a different time of day. I could not believe it. I asked them to send me a playtime schedule. They should add time limits to the disclaimer on the 360 box along with xbox being subject to constant errors.

This whole ordeal started at the end of March, I located on a forum that I visit an Xbox 360 for sale with the red rings of death. I understood that there was a chance that the sticker would be removed and Microsoft would be unwilling to repair it, but I looked into it and the warranty had never been voided and everything was good. I received my 360 from the person that I purchased it from, and all seemed to be well.
I called Microsoft's Xbox Repair line the moment that I received the console, I spoke with a gentlemen there and was informed that despite that I had bought it second-hand everything would be alright and the console could be repaired no problem. I was overjoyed, my purchase of $65 seemed to be a godsend. After that, I received the box to ship the console back to Microsoft and sent it away immediately. The service center received the console on April 5th, again, everything seemed to be flowing smoothly.
I noticed something weird when on Apr 10th, I received an email from the service center saying that I had never sent the console, I double checked the UPS tracking number from the box and saw that it did indeed arrive and wondered what was going on. I checked their website, service.xbox.com and found the status had not been updated; I was concerned, no information had changed and everything seemed like it didn't happen and so I called their service department.
The first time that I called Microsoft, they told me that they had indeed received the Xbox and it was under repairs. Feeling elated, I dismissed it as just techno-wizardry not working the way in which it was supposed to and went along. I waited until 4/18 to call again, not having heard anything back from Microsoft and not seeing the website ever updating was cause for concern. I spoke with a representative there, whom this time could not find any information about the console. I gave him my reference #, and nothing had ever been updated in the system despite what the first agent had told me.
I started to get a bit upset at this point, things were starting to get kind of sketchy. The agent ended the conversation by telling me that he knew nothing about anything that was going on, and they would have to contact the actual service center. The agent then informed me that there would be a 3-5 business day wait until the service center replied and then they would know more. I asked the agent why there would be such a long wait to which he gave the eloquent answer of, "I don't know." He seriously said, "I don't know."
I pushed further, to which his only response was that he honestly had no idea how the system worked. After speaking to a supervisor and receiving the exact same answer, I was frustrated. It appeared that in some strange twist of feline quantum mechanics, I had been sold Schrodinger's Xbox.
I called the service center again on 4/23, figuring that would be plenty of time for them to locate the console and figure out what's going on. The agent whom I spoke with that day was kind enough, she never gave me an answer of I don't know but instead was never even able to locate the order in the system. I gave her the repair number, which she could not find and I gave her the UPS tracking number (which as of right now, still works).
The order was again escalated to the repair center and I was told that it would be taken care of. She informed me that I was likely to receive my console this week and nothing would be wrong, they had just not yet determined whether to send me a new console or repair the old one. Again, Microsoft lead me to believe that everything was okay. During this entire time, I had made no mystery of the fact that the console was purchased second hand.
Yesterday, on 5/02, I had not received my console. I had received no word from Microsoft, and no contact. Again, I contacted the repair center. I spoke with a gentlemen there, and was informed that they had again received no information as to the whereabouts of the console. He informed me that it had been "esclated to the highest level" and that a supervisor would be calling me within the next 24 hours. Despite being angry, I agreed that this would be okay. 24 hours later, I had received no call. I called them.
I originally spoke with an agent at the center with the pseudonym of Louise, he found that the service center had finally responded but escalated the call to a supervisor. The supervisor, Jose, proceeded to inform me that the Service center was now requesting a proof of purchase from me and if they did not receive it they would be returning the console unrepaired. I was livid. I had made no secret that the console was purchased second hand, being so far as to be outright about it at the first call. I told Jose about what his original agent had told me, but he remained unpersuaded, I would be shafted and given a broken console in return.
It took this department 28 days from the date of reception to go so far as to merely request a proof of purchase, I offered them the proof of purchase of secondhand but obviously, they would not accept this. I asked to speak to Jose's supervisor and was told that despite that they were indeed there, they did not accept calls and I would not be allowed to speak with them. I asked Jose if there was anybody else whom I could contact for an alternate opinion who would be above him, and was told that my only option was to call the service center again and hope to speak to another supervisor.
I asked Jose for a list of information regarding the console and was denied. Jose made absolutely no effort to help, their entire company strung me around with absolutely no help. It took me 28 days just to get an answer from them. Expenditure of roughly $350 that would not have been spent had I known they would not honor the repair.
28 days of being told that everything was okay, being told that repairs were underway. Because of this call center's approach, and their assurance that it was indeed being repaired, I went ahead and purchased games and accessories for the console none of which I will be able to use. As of right now, everything that I have purchased for the console is a total loss. Microsoft's complete lack of customer service is a flagrant disregard for the responsibility which they hold as a large corporation. As for me, their products will not be being recommended to anyone. Thanks for reading.

It would not read video game disc, dvd disc or music disc. I called to file another repair order and let them know the problem, and I was told they would ship me a box to return it over night and that it would be repaired in up to 2 buisness days. It also states on the web site at service that once they receive the system it will take up to 2 buisness days to repair or replace the console.
However I am being told now that it will take 2-3 weeks to do so, and that I was both misinformed by Microsoft customer support as well as the Service website. I called and asked why, and was told the terms say I needed to call if I wanted to cancell. I asked what purpose the feature to auto renew or not was, and he said How do I know you chose that feature? I was furious, I said, Because I told you I did, and i asked HIM if he was calling me a liar I asked how I could get onto the page where my credit card info was, so I could delete my credit card information, and he said you can't. Just like that!
I said in no uncertain terms were they allowed to use my credit card information anymore. I wanted a refund, but was told the terms say NO REFUND....EVER! I let it go, and vowed to be more careful next time. 2 weeks later I noticed I was charged AGAIN on my credit card for another month. I called and spoke to a lady and she said my son must have re-activated. I said, how can that be when I did not give Microsoft permission? She said my credit card info is there on his console for anyone to use. Again I asked how I could delete my info and she said I cannot. I asked to speak to a supervisor, and she hung up on me! I called AGAIN, and this time supposedly spoke to a supervisor. I asked what is the point of having an auto renewal feature if it is not useable? He said he didn't think there was such a feature, that I was mistaken!
He said he would send in the paper work to have my subscription cancelled, but that it would take 30 to 60 days, and I should phone my credit card company and put a stop to the charges that would sure post before cancellation. I had to file a dispute with MasterCard, as blocking them can only be done by having a new credit card issued, and destroying the existing one! Is this a scam or what.
Extreme emotional consequenses knowing I could not delete my information. Anxiety knowing they could bill me regardless of my insisting they NOT! The strained relationship between my son and I as a result of this scam. The financial burden of paying for 2 more months than we had money for.

This means that we have got to use the gaming system less than a month in the last three. This product should be recalled.
We have invested about $1500.00 in this game system and games for it. Each time it has to be repaired we have to take it to an authorized shipper so that we can get a receipt of shipment. Or we can pay 10-15 dollars to have them come pick it up. It cost that much in gas to take it to the ups store.

My original console (after 1 1/2 years or so) was subjected to the red ring of death. I contacted Microsoft and they had me send the console in for repair. After about 4 weeks I received a replacement console with a different serial number thinking it was a new replacement. It was noisy, hot, and loaded games loudly. I again contacted Microsoft, explaining the issue, they immediately aknowledged the problem and again had me send it in for repairs. It took only two weeks to receive another console with yet another serial number. When I received this one I noticed a crack on the top of the machine that I briefly overlooked due to children not wanting to send yet another console out for repairs, but after a couple month the noise began again. Some coming from the drive loading the game.
My son had a game that played on the console, loaned it to a friend, attempted to play it on our console and received a UNPLAYABLE DISK error. I thought the disk was scratched but he took it back to his friend and it played. He again tried to play it on our console with same results. Then other games that worked before started having this error and my son had to push on the drive for it to read the disk but that was short lived for it would no longer work to read any more disks. For the third time I contacted Microsoft and again sent the console it with the power supply as requested.
Received, yet another refurbished console, no power supply. I contacted Microsoft, livid that I sent in a newer console originally (by the way, on the third console I requested a new replacement but did not get it)and continued to receive refurbished consoles that because they did not suffer from the red ring problem were not subject to the continue 3 year warranty but a 90 day, which means the console I received on 29 April 2008 will no longer have a warranty after July 23 2008 and if another problem occurs because the console is a refurbished and not a new console, I will have to pay Microsoft more money to repair it after dishing out $500.00 for my first console. The honest U.S. consumer is royally getting mistreated by a major company that could care less about its customer.
Loss of time. Disappointed children and frustration over the lack of concern and quality to take care of a consumer by replacing defective machinery with more defective machines that no longer have a lengthy warranty, just waiting for an issue to happen after expiration so that the consumer pays more money out of pocket to repair a console that should be free of defects. This company should have another class action suit against it for mistreating the consumer with less than quality products in order to make a buck. I hear the canadians have a three strike rule and they get a brand new console but the U.S. consumer has to suffer. Is this fair?

This is not something new the xbox Is poorly made and the warranty is not long enough and once the xbox breaks and the warranty runs out microsoft is charging $129 to fix the console when microsoft should be sending the consumers a new xbox considering this is an overall problem. i have spent well over a thousand dollars on everything i have purchased to go with this xbox and now it is all useless. i cant believe that they would accuse me of tampering with an xbox that the repair factory sent back to me. i knew that these mac hines were unreliable so there is no way i would jepordize my warranty with them being that it is still under warranty.
if you youwere to request my records from microsoft you would see that i have sent back 3 consoles for repair, within a year of eachother and everytime they give me a new warranty so why would i be stupid and mess with that. the answer is easy. i wouldnt. so i believe that microsft was tired of dealing with my broken consoles and said it was tampered with. how am i to know the signs of tampering. its my word against theres however the warranty seal that voids the warranty if broken is still indeed intact.

I call the customer service number that it is telling me to call (in India) and I am told that my system is out of warranty. I'm told that they only have the 3 year warranty for a certain error message. Not the one that I am having and they would be more than happy to fix my XBOX for 100 dollars. After going around and around with Shirr, I hung up and called the Game Stop that I purchased the system from. They told me, "Well that's what XBOX told us." And they would buy the broken 360 back for 50 dollars. Am I the only one that thinks that this is a bad deal? If I would have been told that the warranty was for only one year then odds are I would have purchased the extra coverage. So what do I do now? I have an Xbox 360, and my son has one at my ex's house. His failed about six months ago, and I called and had a box shipped to us for repairs. Two weeks went by, and I hadn't seen anything. I called and asked for the tracking number and checked UPS on-line while I was talking to the service rep. The UPS web site said the box arrived in another city over 100 miles away. When I asked why it had the wrong address, she explained that UPS must have switched the labels. I tried to get this process expedited, but they won't help. I even tried to pay for the shipping, and that's not allowed. I asked for a manager and was told they don't have any. The Service rep then sent out another box; I sent it back, and in a total of 2 months finally received a refurbished one back.
Now my Xbox is broken. It was 8 days to get the box for shipping. While I was waiting, Xbox sent me an email that said if I didn't send my box soon they would cancel the repair. It took 6 days for them to receive it. On the repair web site it states that they will have your Xbox repaired or replaced within TWO days of being received. It has been down there for 7 days now. I have called to find out the status, and the rep can only tell me it has been received. I asked about the two day statement on the web site, and he explained that was two days to receive, then two days to diagnose, followed by two days to repair. If they can't repair it there is an additional two days to test the replacement. Do they make this up as they go? I am so severely disappointed with Xbox. I love the system, but their support is dismal. I also received an email saying they are having problems charging my credit card for Xbox live. In early February, my son's XBOX360 was returned to the repair center for a warranty repair. It was replaced with refurbished unit which immediately had problems, included a loose piece in the console and bent connectors on a controller port. We called the service center the next day; we were told not to worry. Four days later the unit would not even start. We returned the second unit for repair. It has been returned with the determination that the unit was tampered with and therefore no longer repairable. Two calls to the service center have resulted in the determination that we have no recourse, the determination of the service center is final. WE DID NOT TAMPER WITH THIS UNIT. The alleged tampering was the result of Microsoft's refurbishing of the unit. Additionally, we have not received all of the materials sent to the repair center (the power brick). I am not even sure we were sent the same unit we had returned.
This product was purchased by a 13 year old from money he had earned himself. All of his Christmas money was spent on software. He (and I, his father) have essentially been called liars by Microsoft. The product has - we have since discovered - a history of high defect rates. They have not even offered a paid repair option - although the tampering was not done by the end user.

I purchased a new Xbox 360 in the summer of 2006 and joined Xbox Live. In just over a year, the drive failed. I called Microsoft who informed me that although it was beyond the warranty period, I could pay $99 to have it repaired. My credit card was immediately (Oct. 27, 20007) billed for $99 even though the shipping box and instructions didn't arrive for several weeks. After the box finally arrived, I packaged and shipped it off to be repaired. A month later, I received the equipment back with notification that they would not fix it because the sticker had been taken off -- even though they advised me to do so. I was resigned to the fact that I would have to find another repair option or just realize that I now owned $1000 in unusable hardware and games. In a subsequent phone conversation with customer service, I was assured, however, that I would receive a refund of my $99 within 8-10 business days.
In early January 2008, I called their service department yet again and after being passed between multiple customer service agents and was told that the previous agent must have made a mistake as my refund would not arrive until 8-10 weeks. Moreover, it would not be directly credited back to my credit card, but rather be sent as a check. It is now February 23, and I have yet to be refunded the $99 charged for services not rendered. Over 17 weeks has passed since I was originally charged for the repairs that were never provided and have now been on hold with various customer service agents again for over 40 minutes--only to be told that I should have a check within another 8 to 10 weeks.

With having little money for Christmas in 2006, all our 2 sons had asked for was an Xbox 360, which we bought, along with 2 games. In September of 2007, the console stopped all at once from reading games. Frustrating call to Xbox call center (in India) took about an hour. They sent the shipping materials, and off it went without knowing that it would see yet another trip to the repair facility. (They actually have a REPAIR facility stacked to the ceiling I was told!) After 4 weeks, it comes back from repair. It worked for about a week, then back to the repair facility it went, this time with the 3 red lights, after several more frustrating phone calls with thick language barriers. They said that they were replacing it this time with a brand new unit. It came back, I verified the different serial number, and my son was now able to play Halo 3, which had been sitting on his dresser for 3 weeks unopened. For Christmas 2007, they wanted an Xbox Live account, which required the purchase of the USB adaptor as well, which was also not cheap. Request granted.
Last night, 2/10/08, the console is down again, not reading disks. A lengthy, complicated phone conversation ensued, ending with disappointment, anxiety, and more than likely a bleeding ulcer. I was informed that since this time the problem was not the red lights, the repair is not covered under warranty, and it is going to cost $99.00 for repairs. I am absolutely outraged to know that these consoles are still being manufactured, shipped, and sold with the identical defects that were first encountered when the console was first released! Is this a scam or what? You'd think that of all companies, Microsoft would have nipped this in the bud when they first learned of a defect, in order to maintain their image and confidence of their consumers. And now there is yet another possible revenue-generating angle: repairs being paid for by the consumers themselves on consistently-defective software! If they really want to see profit, they might want to create a product that fixes all of these internal defects! My guess is that sales of this would top any other to date!

The bottom right quadrant of the Ring of Light flashes red, and the error code E74 are displayed on the screen. Xbox support says my unit isn't under warranty, and they want to charge me $99 to repair it.
I feel that since my Xbox 360 has had hardware failure twice in a seven month span, Microsoft should stand behind their product and repair it free of charge. Upon searching the internet for history on this issue, I found numerous other Xbox 360 owners with this same problem. I feel this problem is an inherent design flaw in the Xbox 360, and Microsoft should include it in the announced three-year warranty that has been extended to the three blinking lights, hardware error, known commonly as the Red Ring of Death. I feel that potentially having to pay Microsoft $99 annually to repair my Xbox 360 is ludicrous.

Now after they received my console I was told to call back in 3-5 days, and that is exactly what I did. I was given the run around by a woman who barely spoke English. I told her the problem that I was having, and she repeated everything back to me like it was the answer. They made an appointment for a manager to call me between the hours of 4 PM - 6 PM on Thursday 2-7-08, and no one called. So I called them and was put on hold for 1 hour and 13 minutes; then a supervisor got on the phone, and I asked to speak to someone else in management and was told that was not possible. They supervisor from the service center would call me on my cell phone on Friday 2-8-08 between 4PM - 6PM (we went over my cell phone number 3 times because I wanted to make sure they had it right. On 2-8-08 a supervisor did call--the wrong number. They called my house phone and left a message that said the system was still in repair, and that's all they know.
I spent $400.00 on a game system that doesn't work. I have spent about $700.00 on games that can't be used because Xbox won't send me a working system.
