I am on my 2nd Xbox 360. The first one was a refurbished pro system, and started freezing within a year. I ended up getting another (used) Xbox 360 elite. I have had it for a year or maybe a year and a half and it is now freezing too, way more often than my old one did. Microsoft creates faulty systems so they can charge you to fix it. It's not right. Once this 360 goes, I will never buy another 360 ever again, and unless Microsoft changes the way they are doing things, I'll boycott the business entirely. It's complete ** to create a system and charge hundreds of dollars for it when it won't last but a year or two. I know that games are demanding, much more intense processors, and what not, but you can figure out how to properly cool your systems to avoid overheating, red rings of death, and freezing. Nintendos will work decades later.

I brought an Xbox 360 three months ago. In one month and it was broken. I don't know why or how. I live by myself. I work nights and I don't play it as much as I should. Now, I was loyal enough to buy one. Will I get what I paid for or am I to never trust Microsoft again?

Since it was new, our XBox360 console has repeatedly overheated and stopped working. Now we get an E74 error and the lower right red ring glows red. Console is dead. The only way we can get the console going again is to pay Microsoft or a repair person to "fix" the problems with no warranty or guarantee that it will continue to work in the future. This is a defective product and Microsoft is well aware of it.

I have had my XBox for several years and have recently received the red lights on the front to indicate that the system has overheated. It has gotten to the point that after 8-10 minutes, the system will power off and flash 2 red lights at me. It's ridiculous that Microsoft knows about this issue and still refuses to recall the systems or at least repair them for free. Even when you do send it in for repair, there is still a chance that the refurbished one they send you will go out after they "fixed" it.

I had a brand new XBox, had it for 2 weeks, scratched a new disk. I called customer service and they claim it is world class service. They asked me to send in the console for 2-3 weeks for repair, however, it is their policy not to replace the disk which costs $60. I highly suggest anyone considering purchase of the XBox 360 to be warned about the low class customer service and lack of replacement costs associated with the damage the box causes. I've had a Wii system for 3 years with absolutely no problems. I'm sticking with Wii and suggest you all do too...much better product!

My son's Xbox gaming system broke, just like the countless others that have swamped the Internet with complaints. I paid $300 and within 14 months have been quoted a repair (by Microsoft) for $120. They are well aware of the design deficiencies with this system, yet they continue to market this console and also make millions from said repairs. Is this company too big to be made to do the right thing? I needed to voice my displeasure, and I'm so thankful that you, guys, are here to lend an ear. Thank you for your time.

I downloaded a free trial of a game, Fable 2, and the free trial of the 2 expansions. I liked it, so decided to buy the full version. I was able to get a copy of the "Platinum Hits" edition, which comes with the two add-ons free. However, when I tried to play the add-ons, it only let me have access to the free content. I was unable to progress any further. I concluded that maybe I was wrong, and the 2 add-ons were not free on my version, so paid Microsoft Points to buy and download them. The game even took the time to download the content, which was supposed to be on the disk already. Afterwards I could access the content fine, so it fixed the problem.
A few days later I was talking to a friend, and decided to dig a little deeper into the issue, and found that every retailer selling my version of the game agreed that it did come with the extra content. On closer inspection, it even said in detail on the box, and on an insert in the box what content I should have received. I called XBox support, was passed around several people, and after repeating my story many times and waiting a very long time on hold, was asked to fax my proof. I faxed the cover of the game box, the receipt from Microsoft Expertzone where I had purchased the game, and the insert from the box.
Several days later I was left a garbled message, badly worded, and very static. I called back and again was handed from department to department before I was talking to someone that was going to explain what the call was about. Apparently the case went up to upper management (Microsoft) and was deemed that despite being caused by a glitch in my game console, I purchased the items and could not receive a refund. I explained how the game was glitching, most likely caused by previously downloading the free content, and that the system even showed two identical copies of the game on my games list. The rep merely repeated the decision over and over no matter how I tried to plead my case.
When asked who I could appeal to, I was told the case was already appealed, and this was the decision. Finally I gave up, and tried to find a customer service contact, phone number or email, and all I am able to find was technical support. The email form on the website only lists hardware failures as options to send emails. I am very upset. The game console glitched, I was tricked into paying for something I already paid for. I am out a total of 1350 Microsoft points, at a cost of $.125 per point. These are points I could have used for other content, other games...now wasted on a game I already paid for. I am not asking for the money back, as I purchased the points free and clear. But I would like to be credited the points, since I should not have had to spend them, so that I can use them for other purchases.

I have now purchased 2 Microsoft point cards for X-box live. I purchased the cards, took them home, my son put in the code, and it says the code has already been used and can't be used again. At both times I had my receipt and the card. I called X-box live customer service and was told there was nothing they could do. The second time they said they "investigated", but didn't even ask for a copy of my receipt or the card. I am wondering how often this is happening to others?
I realize this is only $40, but for me, a single working mom, it's a lot. And for a multi-million dollar organization like X-box and considering what they charge for game systems, games, accessories, it seems the least they could do is honor an honest request for a refund for something purchased but unusable. And if it happened to one person twice, I wonder how many other people are being cheated. I am only out $40, but it's the principle of it. How can a company making millions and millions of dollars off of kids on video games turn around and cheat those same kids and their parents?

On 8/03/09 I purchased an Xbox 360 Elite from Toys R Us in Elizabeth, NJ. I purchased the Xbox service contract, I have yet as of this date to receive my service contract despite calling and getting an automated system, sending letters including my paperwork and receipts, and emailing Microsoft. My Xbox just stopped playing my discs 3 months ago and I haven't been able to play so I'd like my service contract starting from the date I received it and a new Xbox for Microsoft's failure to honor it and avoiding me all together.
I haven't been able to play my Xbox 360 Elite for 3 months now. I have been given the runaround by Microsoft by not getting a real life rep, no responses to my emails, letters or the like. Now, I'm out almost $400 including the service contract which I have yet to receive. I'm very upset and want my money back for both, including the taxes and any other compensatory damages I can get because they are wrong for how they treat people! This is my 4th Xbox!

My Xbox 360 stopped reading discs. It was under warranty, so I had it repaired. A refurbished Xbox was sent back instead of a fixed one, and two months later the Xbox they sent me stopped turning on. I called tech support to see if they would cut me some slack on the repair cost (because now my warranty is up) and they would not budge. They appear to be used to these failures. I have no Xbox. As a college student, I cannot pay the hundred dollar repair cost right away.

Bought Xbox was told about warranty and that other than the red rings, which are suppose to be covered under a three year warranty, everything else is a year. Well in about 2 years, the Xbox went from the normal green to red and then shut down. They told me it will be close to $200 for repair. I tried to explain to the rep who I could barley understand that It should be covered under the red ring warranty. He gave me a run around and tried to tell me because this happened with this and that. So basically my red ring issue is not covered. That is not stated in the warranty. Xbox is a rip off. You buy their product and granted with a warranty, then when you need them, they weasel out of their promise making you pay ridiculous fees for repair when you can get a new one for a few dollars more.

I bought the Xbox 360 Pro (60 GB) for my kids for a Christmas gift in 2008. Shortly after we had it, my boys started complaining that it wasn't always reading the disc. It would say "open tray". I just thought maybe the disc was dirty or scratched, but it started to happen more frequently and even to brand new games. Most recently, my boys rented Madden 2010 and it played fine the first weekend we had it. When they went to play it the following weekend, it would not play at all. It just kept saying "open tray". Since that point, it will not read any games.
I called Microsoft and talked to customer support and they told me that my warranty just expired in December of 2009 and that they would have to charge me $100 to fix what they said is the reader that went bad. From what I've read online, there has been plenty of the same issues. I spent over $300 when I got it, I don't see why I should have to pay to have it fixed when it is obviously an on-going problem.

I am shocked to see the number of complaints related to the Xbox 360. My son had his Xbox repaired/replaced and the hard drive was lost in the process. After numerous calls, I am getting the same bad answers. They are continually trying to refer me to an "escalation Specialist" who does nothing but make arguments without logic. The end result of all my calls are the escalation specialist saying they will check into searching for the hard drive and say they will call within 24 to 48 hours.
And, of course, they don't return the call within that time period. I even called today and the customer service rep claims they called me twice and left messages. Hmm. There are no messages on my answering machine. How does it happen that my answering machine only messes up on Microsoft calls? I don't think so. This is truly the worst customer service I have experienced. No more Xbox for my son or my other children.

Don’t they earn enough money? Why spoil what was a good game? Microsoft disgusts me and I recommend to everyone to not buy or use their products. Fight back against this horrid machine that is Microsoft and do not buy any of their goods, only then will they realize they can’t rip people off like they do.

We bought an X-Box 360 for our son last Christmas of 2007. We paid almost $400 dollars for this product. The X-box is no longer working I complained about the product. They did not want to help me with the situation. They wanted me to pay $120.00 to get if fixed. I feel the X-Box should last a lot longer than that. I also contacted KCRA to help me with the X-Box problem. I spoke to Margaret at KCRA she got a hold of Microsoft. The only thing they offered was a $20.00 discount. I feel it should be free since the item is only 2yrs old.

My son's Xbox 360 received the red ring of death. After extended time trying to figure out Xbox website I was able to make a repair order. I sent in the console. I received it back two weeks later. My son plugged it in to find out they had done nothing. All along my repair status had shown system fixed and mailed back to me. So I called the 800 number to get switched around numerous times and have them tell me in fact it was repaired.
After explaining the system had not been repaired the gentleman said to me "oh wait it looks as though your system had been tampered with". I of course asked how and they had no answers except that someone would have to get back to me with that information, I will hear from someone within 24-48 hours. Six days later they called and left a message that the back of the system had been removed. So therefore they will not be standing behind the red ring of death warranty. I of course called again waiting forever and being switched around to inform them that the only person who took the back cover off was their service department. After sitting on hold for over 30 minutes while he checked out this claim he came back to inform me that the case is closed and I am out of luck. He refused to give me an employee number or ID number or even the letter of his last name.

Over the past few years, my son's Xbox has been suspended out of the blue. Each time this happened, I called the Xbox Customer Service line and got the runaround about how they do not have to disclose what the issue is. I know for a fact the profile online is not inappropriate, because I set it up with my son. However, they stated they simply can shut down service whenever they feel appropriate. When the suspension is released (usually 1 week), it is supposed to delete the profile area that was in violation. Each time he logged back in, there is no deleted/erased area of the profile. He changed nothing and went back to gaming.
Today was the last straw. Again, there's an email stating his account is suspended. I called Customer Service and talked to Randy who can hardly speak a lick of English. He told me it's a bad credit card. There is no credit card on the account. Then he said it's a bad email address. I reminded him that I received the email of suspension. Then he said it's the gamer tag. I reminded Randy what the gamer tag was, and he said it's not that. So then what? He doesn't know.
Then I talked to a supervisor by the name of Ulysses **. At this time, I realized I am speaking to people out of the Philippines. Ulysses was useless! He can't tell me anything either and stated the people who can don't have telephones. I demanded the number to corporate. At this point, it's ridiculous. Then Ulysses told me they have no corporate office and he's the top supervisor. Now he's straight up lying! I called him out and hung up the phone.
I found the number to Xbox/Microsoft Northwest District in Sacramento, CA. The gal I spoke to there gave me the runaround as well. She told me to call Customer Service; I refused that number. Now I'm getting pissed. I freaked out on her, and she finally gave me the corporate number in Redmond, WA. Then I called the Redmond office. Guess what? They told me they can't help me either.
This is a joke! How can a worldwide multibillion dollar corporation not have 1 person who is competent? After I blew my gasket at her, she finally broke down and gave me an email address for the Advocate team. I emailed this Advocate team and got a call from Derek, who was very nice. But guess what? Derek can't tell me anything either! He stated he has to look into it, and he argued with me, stating it is Microsoft's policy to suspend service without cause or disclosure to the consumer. He then stated this policy comes from their top executive team.
So I have spent over 4 hours today on the phone and email, trying to find out what the issue is. All the while, they get their annual membership fees paid in full upfront, along with all the other gadgets we buy for this console and they provide absolutely no service to consumers while their tummy gets fat from our proceeds. They take our money with their silver spoons in their mouths then disappear. They have taken away our service for no apparent reason, as no one there has a clue what has happened nor can explain or resolve it. It's a scam! They collect 12 months of service in advance and only give maybe 10 months of service.

I have bought three Xbox 360's in the last year and a half. The first one I owned was bought brand new, and was permanently banned from Xbox live right after the year warranty expired. I complained with the BBB, and contacted Microsoft many times about this. I have never broken the Xbox live Terms of Use rules, but they said that I did and refused to tell me what I did or why I was banned. I then bought a used Xbox; it broke within 3 weeks after Microsoft had "fixed" it. The third Xbox I bought again was brand new, but I did not register it online with the serial number. This Xbox was banned about 2 months after buying it, and again they would not tell me why. I tried to register the Xbox online to have it sent in, but they said that the Xbox had already been registered, which is untrue. Xbox and Microsoft are high-class scam artists. My husband and I stood in line for hours in the freezing weather all night for the launch of the Xbox 360. We purchased the extended warranty and registered the machine. Shortly after he got the RROD. We sent it back and finally after 4 weeks he received a refurbished console, all seemed to be going well then once again another RROD. Once again we called the Xbox support and sent it back. This system seemed to last a little longer, he was happy. Then again the RROD.
Now we are on our 3rd machine but he is a loyal Xbox gamer so we contacted the support center and again sent it back. So now we are on our 4th console and our 3 year extension that Microsoft gave us is running out so we then pay the additional money to renew the contract. One year later the console goes and we sent it back and wait. Now we come to the present 1/4/10, the game freezes and console #5 has to go back and we called the support center.
Of course the people do not understand a word of English and begin reading from a script. I ask to be transferred to a supervisor which I am and am told that we no longer have the warranty and there was nothing that they can do. We hung up and called the accounts department and spoke to another Service Rep. Low and behold they find our warranty info and yes we were still covered and they would send out a shipping label and that since we had sent back so many systems that he would make sure we would get a brand new system.
So another 4 weeks go by and we finally get console #6 back. Meanwhile all the new games that were purchased for the holidays are collecting dust and our live membership was renewed and there was nothing to use them with. So here we are and its 2/7/10, just 2 weeks after we got the console back and my husband is playing the game and it starts making this horrible noise. So I pick up the phone and called our friendly tech at the Xbox support center. I am furious and needless to say not very nice, I push the correct buttons and finally get to a tech support person who I can barely understand. I told her that I do not want to speak to her but her supervisor.
He told me that there was nothing that they can do. I told them that they need to replace this with a new system and i was not sending this one back. He told me that they can't do that and just kept reading from his script. I hung up and called back to get another supervisor I told her the same story and I told her that they are going to send me a brand new system and that I am not sending this one back, she told me to hold on that she needed to discuss that with another rep but she needed to see what she can do. After being on hold for 30 more minutes she came back on the line and told me that it was okayed and that they will be sending me a brand new system. She took my contact info and told me that I would be getting a confirmation call the next morning between 7 and 9 am.
Well that time came and went and we heard nothing. My husband checked his email and there was a shipping label sent to him. I call the support center once again only to be transferred to another set of support techs. I give them my reference number and they tell me that they only have a service repair ticket in the computer and there is no record of what was told to me the night before. I was finally transferred to yet another supervisor who told me that it is not Microsoft's policy to send out new systems. So I was lied to twice.
When i asked them what was going to happen to the person who lied to me they said they would look in to it and the only thing they could do was expedite the repair and they would send me some accessories to make up for our trouble. I politely told them what they could do with their system and little goodies, that what good were they if their console sucked, plus we already had the items. Then the icing on the cake was that I had to choose only 1 of the items. Plus I told them that i wanted a credit to my Xbox live account which she said she couldn't do but we could use the free subscription cards that they sent us.
I told them that I would be contacting the media and an attorney to file a class action suit against them and that my husband would be telling all his Xbox live friends to go with the Sony Playstation. I am extremely frustrated and disappointed with Microsoft and this piece of crap console. My husband has a very stressful job and this is one of the only way he relaxes and now he can't even do that. I will never recommend this product to another person. My daughter was saving her Christmas money to but her own system and now I will not let her she is now saving up for either a Playstation or the Wii.I wonder if Bill Gates lets his kids play with the 360 or do they have the Playstation?
Something needs to be done! There customer support center is a joke, they have people that barely speak English and who basically lie to you to get you off the phone. I think Microsoft needs to be held accountable for what they have done to people. All they seem to do is take our money and nothing else. Shame on your Bill Gates! Besides the amount of money we have shelled out for the warranty which is $30.00 a year since we have had the system, the $50.00 a year for the Xbox live membership. It has become an issue on my husband health which I know sounds strange but he has a very stressful job and he use this as a stress reliever and a way to relax after a hard day at work and now he can't because it doesn't work. Ideally I would love to go out and buy him another system that works but in this economy it is just not feasible, not to mention doesn't seem fair that we should have to do so since we have invested so much with company.

I hope that my Xbox will be replaced as it is a disgrace to find that each time I have bought a new Xbox, it has failed. I think that you should put more effort into making the console more durable to game playing.
The Xbox has also scratched games and as a result I have had to buy the same game, mw2, at least 4 times which have cost me 54.99 euro each time. if I do not hear from the company, I will be highly disgusted as I am a huge fan of playing Xbox and I am an even bigger fan of the modern warfare game. I would hope that you would replace or repair my Xbox asap as my membership is going to waste or therefore I will be left with no choice but to go higher with my complaint by taking it to the papers and radio stations and whoever else can give me some sort of satisfaction with my complaint. Bought an Xbox 360 in December 2006. I had a problem a few months after purchasing the system. It was scratching all my games. Unfortunately, I don't read manuals and I knew nothing about the 1800 Xbox number until after a year was up. My system after about a year and a half would get a white error screen stating in 10 to 15 different languages that I'd need to put my game in an XBOX 360 console. I guess my system forgot what it was.
I called 800 Xbox after a rep at Game Stop told me about it. Way to safe money Microsoft. Employ a staff that can't speak English and have no authority to make judgement calls with each given situation. That includes the "supervisors" you can request to speak to. After an hour of haggling, I was offered 20% off my repair fee. 80.00 it would total. I paid 400 for this system less than two years ago and I said that's not good enough. I told him if he didn't waive the repair fee, I was going to go out and buy a PlayStation 3. Of course nobody at Xbox Customer Support cares about the customer, so that did nothing. So, I did just that.
A few months later, a game came out only for the Xbox Gears of War 2. All this time, my Xbox was in a dresser drawer. I decided it wasn't worth keeping a useless console, so I called back and paid the 80.00 upon packaging the system up to be shipped out. I plugged it in to see if there was a game in it. There wasn't but I saw what looked like three red flashing lights. I told the person on the phone and he said just throw it in the box and they'd take care of it.Months later, I read an article in Game Informer about how worthless the early Xbox 360's were and that they extended the warranty from one to three years.
So, I began calling and arguing about why I paid to have this console fixed. I was told I needed to provide a receipt for the console. Three years later? I envy someone that organized to still know where a receipt is.
I continued to argue and demanded to speak to someone not in this department. They could not do that, is what I was told. A couple of weeks later, I track down an email address to lodge complaints right to the Microsoft corporate office. Advocate at Microsoft.com, I received a phone call about an hour or two after an automated email stating to expect a call.
After all was said and done, I was told I couldn't prove I had three red flashing lights so they would not refund 80.19. I told this person from the corporate office that I would not be purchasing any further Microsoft products in the future. This will cost them far more than 80 dollars. Microsoft, where is your concern and empathy for your customers who received faulty product?

Months later, they upped the warranty from a paltry 90 days to a year in response to overwhelming problems with their product. The 2nd one failed outside the year warranty then I purchased a third. This one too is failing, with only a month and a half outside the year warranty. The year warranty is $129 and repair is $100. The base console is only $149! In addition, they do not offer any authorized repair centers that I know of. The problem they fix could be free yet they do not offer to look at the console first. To date, I have spent well over $10,000 on console peripherals and software with them yet and have received very little way of customer support!

Seeing as there is an extended warranty to three years for this, I shipped it in and was told three weeks. Okay, three weeks came and I had not received an Xbox 360. I called and was told that they have it and that it is "just sitting there." At this moment, I decided to tell them that this is causing me too much time and that my Xbox live is about to run out. They told me that they would send with my Xbox a one month card and after that the conversation ended.
Two weeks later, my Xbox arrives at my home and I could not hook it up. Something seemed different. There was no plug/port for the video cords, the disk eject button was missing and the power cord did not hook in. Was this Xbox 360 refurbished? I called Xbox and asked them what had happened to my Xbox 360. They told me it was tampered with and that it was void of warranty. I understand that it was tampered with because I now have an Xbox that was worth less than the one that I sent them. I have never opened the Xbox or as a matter of fact bugged it in any way they would seem to classify it as what they considered "tampered." They also said something interesting. They said they sent my Xbox back when it arrived at the repair center.
If you have read this whole thing, you would understand that they told me it was just sitting there and I have come to think that no one up there has any clue as to what they should be doing. It was clearly evident that this was not my Xbox 360 Elite as they said they had sent back "my" Xbox. I bought an Xbox 360 from Gamestop for $150 used and I'm currently playing with it seeing how I also had to buy more Xbox live. In total ,this has cost a little more than $400 not considering the fact that I also bought games and Xbox live for my little brother.
I do not wish to be contacted by an attorney because I do not feel that anything will be done to a company that wishes to intentionally screw over its customers. Xbox 360 is not the way to go! Instead, go Sony PS3! I am saving up for one right now.

This is regarding the defective products called XBox 360 made by Microsoft. I've paid for 3 of these the last few years and each one has broken down the same way. About 13 months after purchasing these consoles, they've gotten a red ring and stopped working. From what I've seen this is happening to almost everyone who has brought one. Microsoft should make a recall or they should either stop selling them until they fix this persistent defect or they should reimburse everyone who has bought one of these defective consoles. Please do something as they're getting away with selling faulty consoles to the paying public.

Red ring of death. First one, I bought for my teenage son when they first came out. Was fine for a while (don't know exactly how long it lasted, doesn't matter anyway). Had a bunch of games purchased within that time frame of course. Was convinced by online forums that this problem was fixed now. Bought a latest and greatest with a newer year stamped on it that was later than the year of the first one and was supposed to be a post-problem model.
Worked for a month and a half, got the ring of death syndrome again. I think that this is underhanded and criminal that a large company such as Microsoft can't and won't bite the bullet on this matter and do the right thing and announce a total recall on a product which is fully documented of having performance issues. Of all the billions of dollars of business that this monster conglomerate (the whole world uses Microsoft programs) has received, I find this to be absolutely irreconcilable and hard to believe that they aren't made to fix this blatant manufacturing screw-up. Why is it that company's aren't accountable for their errors? But the general public is!

I have spent 3 days on the phone to attempt to solve the issue only to be told that my call will be escalated and I will receive a call in 24 hours. Still waiting. I have bought five 360 brand new. On the first 2 CD players stopped working. I tried to send one back to Microsoft. They argued with us on the warranty. The first one was out of warranty but second was still under it. No matter what we said they didn’t believe. Finally, they said they would send us a box and they would repair it but the box never came. On the third Xbox 360 thought three red lights. We took it back to the store we got it from. Also had bought a warranty from store and they replaced it. No questions asked. Now the last two system have thrown e74; one of them is the replacement from the store that just the system the controller aren't much better brand new.
One lasted about 6 months, then the button starts sticking. I never had buttons that did not work the same day I bought it. And the CD--I have had about 2000 CDs that I owned or had in my life but only 360 video games have broken in the center of the disc. This has happened to at least 10 of my games. All these problems and they wont' replace any of them. They just make you buy a warranty which cost you more money which they get. In the mean time, they do nothing to improve their product.

We are a military family stationed in South Korea. Our Xbox 360 got the ring of death. It is no longer working, so we called in to have it repaired since it is still under warranty. They told us that their system does not recognize a military APO address and that they could not return the fixed Xbox 360 to that address. They in turn asked us to give a family member's address stateside and they will ship it to them and then they could pay to have it shipped to us. We have done this return with them before and they emailed us a shipping label that already had the postage paid and then you just take it to a UPS store.
We advised them that we do not have a UPS store here in Korea. I don't understand when you know many military have Xboxs and many of us are stationed overseas why they would not have APO AP address in their systems? We are at a loss. We either send money to our family member with the Xbox so they can ship it for us and then when they get the returned product, they can ship it back to us or we don't get the repair until we get back stateside which will be 3 years and by that time, our warranty will be expired and they won't fix it.

Just this week, I contacted my bank and found that they have been charging me $7.99 every month since then. When I asked for a refund, they denied me. I was on the phone with one representative and canceled my subscription. At that time, she told me that my account was canceled. As I further inquired about my possible refund, I spoke with her supervisor and it was revealed that they were going to charge me again in February.
None of this information was made available to me while speaking with the first representative. At first, I was looking for just a refund for the seven months that I was charged $7.99. After this experience, I would like to file an official complaint against them and look for a refund for all charges and overdraft fees that I have occurred because of their negligence. Between the two representatives, I was given two different confirmation numbers and two different stories so it is clear to me that they are staffing unqualified people to deal with customer accounts and billing. I purchased an Xbox 360 back in December of 2007. I had it for roughly 1 year and then the console would not load and showed an error message and weird characters everywhere on the screen. Luckily it was under warranty. Unfortunately, Microsoft could not fix the problem so instead of sending me a new one, they sent me a refurbished Xbox 360 console. After receiving it, I noticed that there was something loose inside, moving freely as I turned the console around and around. I figured it wasn't anything.
So I played my first game on the refurbished one, and the fan and disc just didn't sound right. Something was weird. So this morning, my Xbox will not read any discs. "OPEN TRAY" is displayed and I cannot play any games. It costs 1/3 the price of a new one to get my refurbished Xbox fixed, or to receive another refurbished Xbox 360. $99! Really!? I can get the Xbox Elite for $299 and that comes with a warranty.
Why does Xbox refuse to find the solution? Class action suit, someone? They must be stopped from making faulty, terrible products. I bought the Xbox 360 console when it first came out, but there was a lot of problems with the console like "disc is dirty, please clean disc" when the game was brand new. But I learned to save the games as frequently as possible and do scenarios over again. It was inconvenient but not enough to get all crazy about. Then I got the 3 rings of death. I obviously called Xbox and told them the situation. They informed me that my Xbox was out of warranty and that I had to pay $120 for repairs over the phone and advised me to do it online because the price for the same repair would cost me only $99.99.
I was suddenly very angry with Xbox. I don't understand why the customer has to pay for repairs when it is Microsoft that makes defective consoles. I paid $500 for that console and they expect me to pay $120 for repairs when I can purchase a brand new one for $199.99. It just didn't make any sense. I was on the phone with them for over an hour and they basically told me that it was just protocol and nothing can be done. I was just so turned off that Xbox 360 will get no more business from me. I purchased my XBox360 console before they lowered the price. At the time of purchase it cost me over $300, now they are only $199.99. i had an Xbox 360 bought for me, which after 11 months, showed an E74 code. So I went online, booked a pick-up, and a service repair, which went smoothly. Then I received a brand-new console 2 weeks later, as they couldn't repair the old one. When I opened the new one and plugged it in and tried to go online, bearing in mind this was within the space of 5 minutes of opening it, it showed up that my console was banned for Violations Of Terms of Use?
I have no idea why it was banned--obviously, a duff Xbox. I'm not a cheater or a dishonest person. So I wouldn't do anything to put my self in a position to have this happen to me. So I tried numerous times to phone them and got nowhere. I kept getting ''We are still investigating the matter.'' This was nearly 2 months ago.
But when they rang me on my mobile phone, they kept cutting the call off when I answered. Whether this is due to bad phone lines which they have or Mr. Gates didn't want a hefty phone bill at the end of the month, I don't know. Then I received a call on the 6/1/10 at 19.58 on my mobile phone. The same thing happened; I got cut off again. Within 2 minutes, I returned the call to a number I got off the internet, and they said I would get a call tomorrow at the same time.
I explained the same thing will happen tomorrow as it did today, and I will be bumped along the line again until Friday and then Monday, etc. So I got put through to a supervisor who basically said the same thing that investigations take time and I will receive a call tomorrow with answers relating to the matter.
I feel I am being made an idiot out of. Xbox don't want to know and keep fobbing me off. I understand that they have 100,000,000 of customers to deal with, but my $299 Xbox is $299 out of my pocket which I spent with them as I heard they were a respected company and well-worth the money. So we click on the game, it says 560 points, and it says to buy it you need to buy marketplace points and to click here to buy points, so under the game we click to buy points. We bought the points via debit card and the payment is processed; we had to buy 1000 points even though the game is only 560. So then we had to go back to the game and when we went to buy, it everything looked the same. It still said 560 points and that we had 1000 available, but it wouldn't let us buy it. It said it cannot connect to X-box live, so we tried 3 more times because live was working on everything else.
So we thought maybe we would try later, it might be overloaded. We try a couple hours later and the price was increased to 1200 points. I called X-Box to find out what was going on. After speaking with several people for over an hour and getting hung up on by a supervisor, we reached Ivan in Resolution Dept. He told us that the prices we saw were yesterday's prices, that it happens all the time, the system is about a day behind and that the game was only a promotional price. He admitted that they know the prices are wrong. They take your money and then up the prices to more than double. They would not resolve the situation. It is not about the money. He said their contract states the prices may change, which would be fine. I don't mind if the price changes, but it should not be wrong for half a day and then they do not honor it after they take your money. My choices now are, pay more to get the game or let my money sit there.
They know that millions of people are looking at incorrect prices and they are not fixing that issue. It needs to be fixed or the prices honored.

The Xbox 360's are going up in smoke, again! Within a month of falling out of warranty, my son's Xbox failed. Red circles of death (E74). When we started researching what to do, we found that, so far, there is a return rate for the units between 53-58%. The computer industry prides itself in keeping the rate below 13% -15%. The unit overheats when the games designed to run on it uses extensive graphics. The motherboard begins to flex and the internal cooling fan which uses a pressure bracket to hold it on to the motherboard fibrates and flexs. The motherboard causes a system failure which sets off a chain of events that causes the fatal red ring of death, which means the unit is dead in the water until repaired; a failure that Microsoft will repair out of warranty for another $199. Basically, they resell you a refurbished unit that costs the same as a new one.
When I went to local dealers, Gamestop sells new, re-manufactured and used Xbox units. The sales people don't recommend used or re-manufactured ones because they are typically units that were rebuilt for red ring error. One customer bought 5 units and all 5 were returned within 5 - 10 days. At least with new units have a warranty although if you do experience the error and return the unit, you will receive another faulty machine when you send it back in. They believe that once the boards start to flex causing the error the first time, it is only a matter of time for that board, no matter what component is replaced, will fail again.
Best Buy salespeople have canned responses when you ask about the return rate and their Geek Squad wants $35 just to send it for repair. When asked, they won't guarantee the repair because of the issues with the returns of repaired Xbox units. The web is full of repair reports, nightmares and suggestions. These units built in 2007 are barely 2 years old! Rather than purchase a new unit, we have purchased a 3rd party repair kit (Redringrepair) from Amazon. We will try to fix it, but shouldn't have to break the case on a unit that’s barely 2 years old that breaks due to faulty design. This is crazier (worse) than the Apple iPods with batteries that die after 18 months. It’s crazier (worse) than the Toshiba floppy drives that lost a byte every 10-20 times it was used to make a disk copy.
In addition, Microsoft is still selling a unit that they advertised as having a HD-DVD video capability even though the Blue-Ray drive was chosen as the industry standard nearly a year ago. Instead, they still sell the units fixing the prices charged by the dealers for new units - $199 for arcade units with 256mb drive, and $299 for the elite with a larger drive; a drive that any other manufacturer would sell for less than $40 after a month or two. This is also not typical of the computer industry where products are have warranty for 2 years, but designed to function for minimum of 5 years. The reason I know? I worked for Toshiba for 12 years.
Imagine the DVD in your car or your TV going out every 2 years due to heat or vibration of a cooling fan. By the way, if Microsoft's solution to resolve a lack of bandwidth (another current class action) on their online gaming boards is by reducing working units, it has worked I suppose - 58% failure of their systems and no class action yet. One game costs $60. We have several of them purchased over the course of 2 years that are now unusable due to failure of the Microsoft unit; not because of new technology, but because the unit fails due to bad design and is basically something that cannot be repaired and replaced due to Microsoft's warranty policies. It's buy a new one, then because of the poor warranty policy, be forced to buy an extended warranty to play our games beyond the initial warranty period.

We purchased an XBox 360. It got the red ring error after two years (the length of the warranty). We contacted Microsoft and they said they could not fix it because it was outside of the warranty. We sent it to get looked at to see if it could be fixed but no electronics specialist could. Then we heard that Microsoft was allowing people to send their product back to get it fixed. We sent it back and after 2 weeks, they sent it back to us and said they wouldn't fix it because we voided the warranty.
Truthfully, the warranty was voided after two years. You can't hold consumers responsible for trying to get a product fixed when the manufacturer refuses to fix it. It is a known software problem with the product. It is not right that they will not repair the device. There is nothing more wrong with it other than the red ring issue.

I bought my son the Xbox 360 4 years ago. Last year, the machine developed the red circle and would freeze. When I call, they quoted a price of $129 to fix. That's when I told them that I knew that they were fixing it for free. They agreed and did repair the equipment. Now a year later when the warranty on the works expires, the machines broke down again and they told me they could and would not help unless I paid the $120.00 because it was out of warranty again. What's the sense in paying all that money if every year we will have the same problem. I don't have that kind of money, and if they know that the machine is no good, why not issue a recall. I don't know where else to go with this problem.

I purchased a PlayStation 1 and 2 and I was never disappointed. When the original Xbox was released, I still was not impressed. However, when they released the 360, the graphics and the game selection both seemed very intriguing to me. I purchased a used one out of a second hand pawn shop, my mistake, expecting it to eventually break down. It was used; you can never expect refurbished or used equipment to work like it is new. We should all know this. Well maybe 3 or 4 months down the road, it stopped reading the disks like I expected. Obviously, I can't go get it replaced as I didn't get a warranty, understandable.
I went to my local game stop and purchased a used 360 in hopes that it would run good as new considering it was packaged by Microsoft. Once again the same exact issue. I would put in a game and the console would do one of two things, either say reading and then open tray as if I never put a game in, or it would go to a white screen that said if you would like to play this disc put it in an Xbox 360 console. Then it said something (assuming the same thing) in about 15 other languages. I started to wonder at this point but I am not one to give up on a company easy, at least when I’m happy with the service or products. Therefore I went to the game stop in my local area, different from where I purchased it, and they told me that it was not under warranty, which I had asked for by the retailer that originally sold me the system.
I asked what it is going to take to get another Xbox. They retailer I’m at now says he can sell me a used one for about 150 bucks. This is what has now happened 9 times. That is not including the times I actually used a warranty. This means I have purchased 7 used Xbox 360's and 2 brand new ones. After purchasing about 7 of them, well at this point, I have spent nearly $2,000 between equipment and consoles and games; on replacing the console alone, over $1,000.
I called the Xbox team, customer support (that doesn't support their customers), and they were very rude. I couldn't understand them half of the time, and they constantly told me that they would not, not could not, send me a new console unless I pay them out of warranty fees. I was told this would cost me $200. Why would I spend $200 to get something fixed when I can spend $150 to get the same thing? I just got off the phone with the same people, the ones that you cannot understand and sound like Microsoft put a chip in there, brain programming them to do nothing but say "Well unfortunately, our policy says no, but you can speak to a manager if you want."
After calling numerous times, once of which being accused of stealing a console because I didn't have it "registered to me?” whatever that means. I became irate to say the least. I explained to 3 supervisors what my problem is. I talked to at least 5 agents. Nobody was willing to even try to help me. My biggest issue is that even though they can see that I have purchased this many Xbox 360's, and there are remarks on my calls showing that I have called numerous times, they still say that their policy says no. I had asked the last supervisor why I should have to pay for the company’s defaulted equipment. He said well our policy, and then I interrupted and asked to be able to speak with someone that is willing to make an echo throughout the company so that this doesn't happen to future customers. He gave me the address at 1 Microsoft Way, which doesn't even sound like a real address. If it is, then obviously Microsoft has ripped off enough people or become a monopoly in some way that they can afford to have a street named after them.
The main conclusion here is that I have replaced my Xbox 360 over 10 times in the short 2 years I've owned one. And they refuse to believe that even though it was the same problem every time, it is not a manufacturer defect, and they refuse to fix it without me paying them $200. Because of this, I refuse to ever purchase another Microsoft. I will spread the word as far as I can and as often as I can the Xbox 360 is the worst game console. It is far from durable, and the customer service is horrible, and they are very rude, and very, very unhelpful. I had worked for Verizon Wireless for over two years, and I know how easy it really is for a major corporation to steal money from customers. I had seen it done every day. More so once promoted to management. And no, I was not a supervisor. I was a trainer, leaving me with a lot more knowledge and power than just a supervisor.
I had dealt with customers on a regular basis that say one thing and I know they're telling the truth when I still have to tell them there is nothing that can be done. Verizon Wireless is the biggest wireless company because their service however is great; they treat their customers as humans. Perhaps Microsoft should start laying in place some of these policies that make Verizon Wireless the top of the line in the communication industry, second rarely and only to AT&T in customer base and revenue. This is done by taking action and resolving the issue the first time the customer calls in, not the 10th like Microsoft has done to me.
Retention of customer base is very important as well, Microsoft just cares about getting someone in, which since they have made millions off just the broken systems and plan to spend 1 billion on in the next while, and they're the only system that is available this close to the holidays, I would assume that losing a customer or 2 really has no effect on such a major company. Hopefully, the company will learn the hard way by losing major amounts of money and customer base that they cannot rip people off like this and profit from it, since they refuse to listen to people that actually call. I spent over $1,000 on replacing an Xbox and cannot afford it any more. I will be switching to PlayStation again.

I have had the Xbox 360 for 2 years - no problems - almost made it to 3 years but in October, had the 3 rings of death. I contacted Xbox, printed the label and sent it back. I received the new one in 3 weeks as promised - there were things rattling around on the inside of the console - and the fan did not sound normal when it ran. Next, it ate one of my son's games, and he stupidly ruined another game by using it to pry the 1st game out of the tray (he is 10). The console now shows 1 red ring and says e 6 something ... For three days, I have been trying to print out a new shipping label to send this back. I've been on the phone too many times to count, also in the same time period to no avail. I asked them, "Why can't I go to UPS and send it back on my own and pay for shipping?"
"Nope, you can't do it." I want this over before Christmas but it doesn't look like this it's going to happen. Now, he is going to have all these games under the tree with nothing to play them on. Shame on you, Microsoft/Xbox.

I would like to complain about the terrible customer service with regard to the Xbox 360. Our Xbox 360 broke on the Canadian Thanksgiving and all seemed well as they said it would be returned in 2-3 weeks. We patiently waited for the time that was given and before you know it, 2 weeks is upon us. We continued to wait, but 3 weeks also came and went. We decided to give the repair a little longer as we thought they may just be slightly behind, but it still never came. After 5 weeks, we decided to call and see what the hold up is. Nobody could give us an answer. They said they needed to wait for a response from the repair station.
We continued to call as it has now been over double the time period it would take and it wasn't until 6 weeks in that they told us it had been shipped back. Well since we didn't have it and the delivery company said they never received it either, this was not true. They said that they would look into it and call us back. They never did. On the 7th week, we called again and finally a staff member was helpful and agreed that there is a problem, and said they would get it fixed right away. Sure enough, in one week, we got our Xbox 360 back. It took 8 weeks when it should have only taken 2-3. During this time, we had kept our Xbox Live subscription running as we were expecting it to be returned much sooner than it did.
We tried to get time added on and what do they give us? Only 1 month. It took 6 weeks longer than it should have because of a fault from Microsoft, so this is clearly unacceptable. I had to call and wait on the phone for over an hour just to get 3 more months. Microsoft, you are lucky that we were a customer in the past because now we realize how terrible your customer service is. No longer will we ever buy Microsoft products.

I am completely appalled by this whole issue. I was there for both the launch of the original Xbox and the 360, waiting in line in the freezing cold overnight for 14 hours on both launch days. I have been a pretty loyal customer to Microsoft throughout their little venture into the gaming market, which I can now see has been a mistake.
I purchased my 360 as I said on launch day (11/2005). I even purchased the extended warranty on the 360 for $100. In 5/2008, I got the RROD, contacted Microsoft, got sent a coffin to ship it back and about 2 weeks later, I receive my refurb replacement as luckily I was still under the "Oops, we ** up" 3-year extension. Now, this RROD issue is widely known to be a manufacturing issue with consoles that were manufactured before 2008. Yet this wonderful company sent me a console that was manufactured in 10/2005. So I knew that this was going to happen again...and it did.
Today, I called 800-4MYXBOX and spent 40 min. on the phone with someone who could barely speak English to tell me that I now have to pay $140 to have my console repaired. Really?! Forget it! Why should I have to pay for your manufacturing defects? You are still not owning up to your mistakes Microsoft, and this is certainly not taking care of your customers! I can now say that I will again be waiting in line on launch day for the next hot console that comes out. However, it won't be a Microsoft console. I will now be reserving that space in my entertainment center for a Sony or Nintendo product.
You better find a better way to make things right with your customers, Gates & co. I am not alone in my situation with your $300 paperweight you call a game console. I have several friends that also have 360s, and guess what? All have had to have their consoles replaced! So perhaps your competitors would better appreciate the business of all those who have had their systems replaced with yet another faulty console as from now on, your competitors will be getting mine. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this complete waste of money.

I called Customer Support yesterday and explained to them the situation. I packaged the console the way Microsoft told me to do, and then some! Not a scratch or flaw on the console whatsoever when it left my residence. Guess what? After I received the console back after 2 weeks, I opened the box - nothing but pieces laying inside! I tried speaking to them by phone. That was a joke! Blew me off. Also, I fail to mention that the "tampering tape" was also pulled loose. They tried to blame this on UPS. Anyway, the console was broken by pulling the console apart, not by being crushed. I know there's nothing I can do about this situation. I'm hoping to see this problem on my local news someday. I wish I knew where Bill Gates lived. I would throw this piece of ** in his front yard or at his single wide trailer he lives in. Anyone want to buy some Xbox games? Cheap! Next time I see someone with an Xbox console at Walmart, I will have a talk with them.

I am writing to complain about the Microsoft product, Xbox 360. I am writing because I am angry. I am so tired of this inferior product. This is the second Xbox in two years. The first one got the ring of death and the company was wonderful about it because it was a manufacturer defect. They sent a replacement and now in less than a year, this one has quit working also. I am sick of this. We called tech support and they say there is nothing I can do because I did not buy the extended warranty. I was not offered an extended warranty.
I assumed that the warranty would start new because this was a new Xbox. They are now telling me that the warranty was good for only one year and started with the one that got the ring of death. How can I warranty a product when I was not told this purchase was necessary? As of right now, my son probably, or I should say I bought all the accessories and games with a grand total of about $1900. That is $1900 for a system that will not work more than 8 months. What is an average person supposed to do?
People cannot keep buying these items, it was not supposed to be a disposable item. I could see if he took it with him from place to place as I have seen some kids do but this system stays in a dry, climate-controlled room, dusted, never moved, new TV and taken care. It works one day and then the next, it quits. Tech support says we cannot do anything for you. You must send it back and we will charge you a repair fee of at least $100 to repair it and we could give you an extended warranty of the repair. Why did I not get the warranty on the new unit replacing the one that went bad due to a product defect?
Tell me what should I do. I think because this is a new unit and replacing one that was defective, I should not have to pay for a repair on a unit that is less than one year old. If they can give me a year warranty on the repair of this unit, why could they have not put a new warranty on this unit that replaced the one that quit because they did not build it right? I was never told that the warranty began and ended with the original unit. That is a load of **. The replacement was new and the warranty should have begun again.
I know this a terrible letter but I am tired of being taken for a ride by this company. I think they are building bad products that do not last so people will have to keep putting money into them. We are now in a situation. We have all these expensive games and accessories and no system once again. My son still has his Nintendo 64, GameCube, first Game Boy and they all still work. But Microsoft does not seem to get it right. I think I need to chuck all this ** and buy a Nintendo Wii. At least I know they will keep working. To all that own Microsoft, beware.

I paid $600 for this system when it first came out and now I have to pay another $120 for them to fix.
I see why they call it the Xbox 360 now. I'm right back where I started paying them more money. I purchased the Xbox 360 because I thought Microsoft was a trusted brand. I am outraged over this and have invested over $2,000 on console and games. What do I do now? I'm forced to submit to Microsoft's evil, monopolistic ways. It's very frustrating when you enjoy video games like I do and your system just stops working though no fault of my own. You pay big money and a company should stand behind their product. Of course, the warranty expired some months ago. Their suggestion was to purchase a new warranty for $119.00 and they would fix it. As I see on other complaints, they always want around $100.00 to fix any issue. How interesting. My son saved for so long to be able to purchase this system. They cost a lot of money and then you have to pay through the nose for games and Xbox Live. Someone really needs to check them out. My feelings are that you should not be allowed to take someone's hard-earned money in exchange for an inferior product, especially one that you do not obviously stand behind. Like I said, it's rather funny that all 360 "issues" can be fixed for $100 to $125. Actually, it's not funny at all - it's just robbery.

I bought an Xbox 360. It took 6 months to save the money to buy one. I have a wife and 3 kids and extra money is few and far between. One year and a week later my Xbox got the 3 RROD. I have 5 other friends who have also received the red ring of death. They sent it in to get fixed, and when it came back the longest, any of those worked was 3 months. So, I opted for the self-repair of the x-clamps and thermal paste, and I got another 6 months out of my Xbox. Now it is failing for the scaler chip and also RFU. I'm not even going to bring up all the problems I have off of their Vista software. All I want is for Microsoft to make this right with all their customers.
I’m out $300 for a piece of equipment I only had time to use around once or twice per week. Now the economy is even worse than when I was able to scrimp and save to buy my 360 and I can't even put back enough to get a new Xbox within the next 6 months. I also spent roughly $300 or more on games that are now useless, two of which I bought brand new 1 week before my Xbox broke.

I got an Xbox 360 Elite last year for my 18th birthday, and now, my warranty has run out. My Xbox decided to die on me, and I feel that I shouldn't have to pay for something that's over $250 and the amount of money I have spent on accessories and games to be fixed. I understand that you have changed the rule about the three rings, but mine has 1 ring, and I believe that it's either a power fault or an AV cable fault. But I have tried them on another Xbox Elite, and both power lead and AV lead worked? I don't care how long it takes for my Xbox to come back to me, but I also don't expect to have to pay for the repair. My Xbox has very sentimental value to me, as my mother bought it for me and it's the only thing that reminds me of her, as I don't get to see her as much as I'd like to. Please get back to me. Thank you very much, and I hope to hear from you.

Furthermore, if Xbox would look at my name, they would have numerous conversations documented with me trying to get my steering wheel fixed. First, they sent me the wrong cord, then the right cord but the system still did not work. Then, they advised me to place my steering wheel in a box and UPS it back for repairs. I did that over 3 months ago and still have not heard anything! I have called numerous times, provided tracking numbers and still nothing heard back. So basically, they stole $200.00 from me.

They sent me a defective product and should be held accountable for unfair business practices. It is bad enough that they make a product that is deceiving consumers, but when you call Microsoft, they send you to India where they are outsourcing employment and making it highly difficult to understand the employees, much less get a response from them that makes you think they stand behind their product.
I was rerouted so many times to so many representatives that after 2 hours I was completely frustrated. So, I wrote the company and to date I have not received a response from them. Every one had the same problem. This time, 7-30-09, they tell me that it is not under warranty and are trying to charge me $100 to fix it. They had just sent me this 360 in October and are telling me that this is the only one I ever called about. The lady, May, refused to let me talk to her supervisor and kept using the current unit’s serial number to go by. I tried to tell her numerous times that each time I sent my 360 in for repair, they sent me a new one with a new serial number. She just insisted on telling me over and over that the unit’s serial number only came up with no history. It’s obvious she was not listening to anything I had to say. I was furious. She gave me a reference number and no other info. She stated the info would be in the computer. I informed her about the past incidents where I sent the previous five 360s weren’t there, so why would this one be? It’s not my fault they kept sending me a defective product, so I should not have to pay to get it fixed.
I paid $500 for the 360. I paid for the shipping the first two times and the packaging every time. My Madden 09 football game was destroyed in the last one and they refused to replace it. Now, I cannot play any of the other games that I bought for the system. I’m out around $800 or so. And that’s not to include the 30 games I have that I can no longer play that cost around $60 a piece. That would be another $1,800.

I recently purchased the Xbox 360 Elite Game of the year bundle $399. This bundle was recently announced and placed for sale in May 2009. The problem is Microsoft has placed old systems known to have problems inside the new bundles. The system that came with my bundle was 13 months old manufactured in June 2008. Microsoft is repackaging and selling hardware that they know will fail. Because of this, I returned the bundle with the old hardware and was forced to purchase all the components separately at an additional cost of more than $100.
I have contacted Microsoft about this issue and they refused to give compensation or offer an explanation as to why a new bundle announced only 3 months ago contain problem systems that are well over one year old. Microsoft is obviously looking to take advantage of less informed people in order to sell off the problem components. The Xbox 360 Arcade system is the only system available with new components but this is a bare bones system, and in order to get all the items that came with the Elite Game of the year bundle, I was forced to spend an additional $128.00.

I just think it is unfortunate that a $350 system does not last for a year and a half. We have many other and many older game systems that work just fine and have had no issues. This system is the newest one broken and the company is not standing behind the product. Our family own two Xbox 360 consoles which were bought at Christmas the same year. One console belongs to me and the other to my son. My son’s console started to overheat only after 5 months, the console overheated only after 30 minutes of use. We visited the Xbox website to see what was wrong and how to fix it. Microsoft suggested to make sure the console was placed in a well ventilated area. This console has never been right.
After 11 months, my Xbox suffered three red rings (the ring of death). Microsoft replaced the console under the three year warranty. Only after discovering that so many people have had problems with their Xbox 360 with overheating, I decided to request a repair or replacement of my son’s Xbox 360. So, I contacted Microsoft repair center using the online phone number. They suggested that in order to have my console repaired I would have to pay £78. I think this is unfair as our family has invested so much of our disposable income in games and consoles. The Xbox 360 is a very poorly manufactured console. This is not what you expect from a company such as Microsoft who make billions of dollars producing software each year.
I have spent approx £800 on consoles and games. It’s not money well spent if we can’t enjoy the experience. I don’t feel I should spend £78 on repairs when the problem is caused with the manufacture of the console.

March 2008, my two children spent their entire savings to purchase an Xbox 360 and a few games. November 2008, it had the 3 red lights ring of death. I called Microsoft Xbox and sent the machine in to be repaired. It wasn't repaired but replaced. May 2009 and this replaced machine continuously gives the message “unreadable disc” or “unrecognized disc” and will not allow any game to be played. We have taken all our games in to be cleaned, without success. I then purchased a brand new game, and that too will not work.
Today, I called Xbox support and went through the trouble shooting tips, with no success. I was told by the support person that it would cost me $99 to have the machine repaired as it was beyond the 1yr warranty. I refused and asked to speak to a supervisor, and was hung up on. I called back, got a different support agent, briefly explained the situation and was put through to Jasper, a supervisor. Again, I explained that my children have paid over $400 for this machine and games, and within one year it does not work.
He said it’s not within one year because the original purchase date was March 2008, even though the machine I have is a refurbished one, and we have had it for only 6months. He was then kind enough to explain that the previous agent I spoke to was incorrect in advising it would cost $99, that actually it will cost $423 for the machine to be repaired! Jasper was also kind enough to explain that there is no further level of management for me to speak to, except for the “offline team” and while he would forward my details to them, there was no guarantee anyone would call me back. Jasper refused to provide me with a name or phone number for his boss or any other level of management.
I would expect a company of the size and financial status of Microsoft to take better care of its customers. This product is obviously faulty, and simply waiting for a so-called limited warranty to be expired is no way to treat the young people who spend their hard earned dollars on products. In my view, it is not unreasonable to expect one year of use for each $100 spent. In this situation it was one year of use for $400 spent. Not a good value! Thanks Microsoft for ripping off my kids! Makes me want to ditch all my other Microsoft products, computer, hardware, software, games, and switch to Mac. I bet they wouldn't rip off my kid like this!

I've had my newer Xbox 360 for a few years now. The old Xbox 360 I owned has, I believe, the motor that span the disk burned out. Well, as most of you know, Xbox charges your credit card every month if you pay that way. I canceled my card. I never called to tell them. I didn't know you figure when a credit card is canceled, the service will be canceled. Does that sound right? Well, knowing that was my Xbox Live was shut off, I went and grabbed a 3-month prepaid. I went to enter the code in, and it read that my account was suspended.
I gave them a call and figured out what was going on. Well, Microsoft is saying that I owe them for 2 months, so I went to my bank statements. They showed I paid those months. So after 3 hours on the phone with a supervisor, he finally got smart and said to fax them. I was ready for that, so I did. He gave me the wrong number. I called them up again. They gave the wrong number. And finally after I called Xbox again, I got the right number finally.
They received the bank statements showing I paid. I've been on the phone with countless reps and a number of supervisors (By the way, I hate outsourcing. You want more jobs, Obama, stop companies from outsourcing). So I finally got on the phone with another resolutions specialist, and as most of you know, they run you in circles and do whatever they can to make you wrong. Well, that wasn't happening with me. I stayed on course, stating this is for the months of... and that's what we were talking about.
After 5 days of calling them to get this resolved, one gentleman (resolution specialist) told me that this will be looked at by his superior and that they would give me a call. They called me the next day. I was unable to get the phone, because I was at work. I called them back when I got home. I had to go through everything again, even with my reference number. I told them I was called about this issue. This guy put me on the phone with his supervisor, who lied to me by saying that the payments were behind, not ahead (i.e., April 26 pays for the month of March). So I said, "Well in that case, I don't owe you for this month (because for me it was 2 months in a row)." What company lets you go 2 months without a payment? Well, that shut her up.
When you sign up to Live, you don't get a month of it and then pay; you pay and get a month. It just shows you how sneaky they try to be. Also, the day before that, that jerk who gave me the wrong number, I caught him in a lie. My rep said his name was Ryan. Then as he handed me over to the supervisor, the supervisor said, ''Thanks, Charlie.'' I'm not happy with the customer reps at Xbox. They have the proof I paid, and 7 days later, nothing.
The last lady I talked to said that this dispute was over a refund. I stated, "No, it's not." (Xbox doesn't give refunds. It's another way of them trying to get out of it). After some talk, she claimed she would take it to upper management and gave a new reference number. I told her I had the same conversation yesterday but with a resolution specialist and that he didn't give me a new number. I asked why I was getting a new reference number. And of course, she was unclear in what she was saying.
This has been a hassle. I just purchased a game on Live before it was shut off solely to play on live, and some of the game content I have downloaded won't play because I need to be on the internet. I mean, come on. I have Call of Duty 4. That's all about online. They took all my access away. I don't even have Live Silver. I will be contacting a lawyer soon for this, because it has been exhausting. And whatever this situation is, it just isn't right. Worse comes to worst. Let Microsoft send their big fancy lawyer to my town over $17, because you can't deny the truth that I paid; and I'm being punished for their mistake.

On Thursday June 14th, I spoke to Francisco in Xbox repair center and he quoted me that it would be repaired and is covered under warranty. This was at 1pm central time should you want to pull up the phone conversation. My children were happy to possibly have their console back and play the games that I work very hard for. This system did not come easy. Today, I received the console back, unrepaired, saying it was tampered with. Upon my inspection of the unit the seal Gamestop put on there was not even broken. I am lucky I know how to change the batteries in the remote and my kids are too young to be taking it apart.

I had the notorious “3 lights of death” on my Xbox 360. This happened once before and was repaired after much stress and arguing that the 360s were not faulty and was assured it was a one off! This was not the case. Eventually, Microsoft were good enough (very sarcastic tone) to acknowledge the problem and give their consoles 3 years warranty from the date you purchased it not the date it was last repaired! This effectively means that a console could break continuously until the warranty runs out, so Microsoft can wash their hands of this problem and still maintain face in the public as they were generous enough to given the extended warranty.
There is no way of complaining to Microsoft directly in Europe. I spoke to a supervisor in Germany who assured me that he was as high up as you can go in Europe and even if he wanted to, there was no way for him to give out free repairs--they have "a strong policy" on this. Surely, they are sending out defective equipment and denying the existence of a problem. Then anyone who had a fix still have had the 3 death lights again, many of them over and over. It is wrong and illegal (I’m not familiar on US law). Examples of these are not hard to find if you google "3 lights of death 360." What can I do to get justice or at least infinite repairs for the 3 lights of death? If this were any other fault, I’d gladly pay or buy a new 360 but this is not wear and tear. Now, it will cost me over $100.00 for repair on an Xbox that was working perfectly until an "update". This will be my last Xbox that I will have repaired. If it happens again, I will have to accept my losses and the thousands of dollars I have spent on systems and games, and move on to a more reliable gaming system.

I got an Xbox gold membership for my son, understanding the first month was free and my card would not be billed. It was billed so I cancelled it. My son bought a prepaid card instead and registered it. I found out today my card was charged again. I called customer service to tell them that charge was a mistake. They said if I cancel the credit card, it would also cancel the prepaid card. They refused to honor the card my son already paid for since I cancelled the credit card purchase. So they have $49.95 that my son bought this prepaid card with and he has no Xbox live. I spoke with several people who refused to refund the prepaid card as well. I asked why they couldn't just reenter his prepaid number and give his subscription back (which was 13 months) and they refused. I was on the phone almost 2 hours and no resolution. I would like my son to have his money reimbursed for the prepaid card or credit him with the 13 month subscription he has already paid for. My 15-year old son who worked hard and saved his money was just robbed of it by a multibillion dollar corporation.

I purchased an XBox 360 console less than two years ago and since that time it has broken down 5 times, requiring repair in order for it to function again. Now on the 5th time it has broken with an E74 error message, Microsoft will not return my calls on getting the repair set up and is giving me the runaround. Microsoft agreed to repair the console for 3 years for this problem but they are trying to avoid honoring this warranty.
The XBox 360 is well known to have major design defects which causes it to fail due to no fault of the consumer. I am seeking my $400 back or a new XBox back. I have spent several thousand dollars on software and hardware for the XBox 360 including games and Microsoft HD-DVD movies. All of this is rendered useless if the XBox is broken with no other means to use them.
