I was mistakenly given a "neighborhood" subscription versus a "neighborhood plus" subscription. Later I found out that each visit to a location that wasn't my home gym was $15. I tried to correct this, I even offered to upgrade my subscription to correct the issue. They weren't interested. I spoke to managers at a few locations, as well as Latisha in the corp office. I was stuck paying for the visits somewhere in the range of $500. They weren't willing to work with me to correct the issue and refund my money. I'm going back to New York Health and Racquet, I never had a problem with them. Hopefully my bank will understand this and refund my money.

I only wish I could give ZERO stars. Terrible customer service, completely incompetent management and just a terrible facility. I stopped going after a few months and had to keep paying because I was under contract. MISTAKE. When I and others complained about the shower heads always being broken Manager Derick blamed US. He actually said "well you ** guys keep breaking them." Place should be shut down and Derick ** should never be able to work again. Rip off artists to the Nth degree. I want my money back.

I had a horrible experience here with the daycare services that are offered. I will try to make this brief whilst trying to explain the whole outline of what transpired for me and my family. I saw that NYSC offered child care services and thought, great! Being a new dad this will work out perfectly. When I signed up for my membership, the associate told me at the time the first time I come in to let the front desk know that I wanted to add on child care and I would be all set. The day came and I brought my son in and said that I wanted to add the child care package on and the associate said no problem. I continued to bring my son there 15-20 times, giving them my checkin and them giving me the child care pass, no questions asked.
One day my son came back and had thrown up some crayon bits. My girlfriend was extremely upset but I chalked it up to kids being kids and he must have gotten his hands on them while they were trying to juggle several infants. Mind you, nor my home nor his normal daycare have crayons. I brought this up to one of the associates and there was no apologies but they said they do not have crayons, when I saw a crayon in plain view! A couple of weeks passed before my girlfriend was over the trauma of my son being ill and I started bringing him back.
The second time I brought him back, one of the childcare attendants came rushing out to me to tell me something. She spoke broken English and her sign language made me think he had just had enough and was cranky and wanted to go home. She was able to get out that he was choking. I ran to the nursery to find my son's face beat red and a pile of vomit on the floor with a small plastic piece amongst it. Once again I confronted the caretakers and they displaced blame and took no ownership to what had happened, stating that he did not eat that plastic there and he regurgitated it. THE PLASTIC WAS SO BIG THAT THERE WAS NO WAY HE WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SWALLOW IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Once again, myself and my girlfriend were in disbelief and traumatized from the whole event. I was no longer allowed to bring my son there. Days later I received a call from NYSC asking if everything was okay and continued on with the story that it was not their fault and there was no apologies. The manager then had the audacity to call me up and say I was being charged $10 for that day because I had never signed up for child care and I could be billed for every time backdated I brought my son there. Why is this being picked up now? Why did no one say something every time I swiped my card and they gave me a day care pass? There was no apologies, no sympathy, no courtesy and no customer service. I do not write reviews but felt compelled to do so here as I had never felt so disrespected as a customer or human and would not recommend this service to anyone.
Sincerely,Chad

Be very very careful about personal sessions with trainers. I was trying to downgrade my sessions. Guess what? They never did even I have talked in person and send an email on time and I was paying a lot of money. If I can give them 0 for customer service I will do that. This is advice to all members to be very careful. And there is no customer service. There nobody over the gym to talk to.!!!

I was a member here years ago, cancelled and then rejoined a year ago. I was charged for 2 memberships in 2 different clubs. They made me feel like an idiot so I put my membership on hold until I calmed down and could muster up courage to return. I didn't so cancelled my membership, they kept it open charging so for over a year I have paid. I tried to cancel again as I suddenly had over $200 taken from my account, it has taken months to speak to anyone as they can't hold on to staff, and now they do not care and want to charge more to cancel for a month to month membership. How ridiculous. They also try and say that you have to pay yearly fees to stay a member. The showers etc don't work and the equipment is ancient. Be warned of this daylight ROBBERY.

I signed up for a three month free promotion which New York Sports Club advertised on its official website! It turned out to be false advertising. Three weeks after signing up, they went into my account and stole $100. I went to their location on West 41 Street and their manager initially refused to come out of his office. When he did, he falsely accused me of trying to fleece him! Can you imagine? They are so brazen! I asked them to cancel my membership immediately. They told me not before they draw some more money. These guys are thieves. Their gym is probably one of the filthiest in New York. They have worn out equipment. Consider other options. Updated on 04/09/2020: Guys, please, I implore you, to NOT JOIN NYSC, nor give them leeway to any of your account number or credit/debit card numbers. This gym runs a fraudulent practise. I have left a review on them 2 months back, and have submitted a claim of fraud to my bank as they were constantly been charging me membership fees, and even extra fees that are more than my monthly membership fees since the month of September 2019 I have cancelled my membership at. I only found out months later that exorbitant fees were being stolen from my account. I lost about $200. I know many out there that have lost more. My NYSC gym was at (2311 Frederick Douglass Blvd, New York, NY 10027), and ** was the one whom refused to answer my calls, and eventually when I got to her, she refused to refund me my membership fees, even when admitting that i have cancelled my membership in September.
I made a claim with my bank Santander, and recently got a letter from them stating that the claims were rebutted by documents from NYSC stating that my membership wasn't cancelled until the month of January which they tried to steal more money from my account from which I have had my bank block them from my account. NYSC - FORGED FAKE DOCUMENTS,changing my membership cancellation date from September 2019, to JANUARY 2020, so that they did NOT HAVE to REFUND ME. This gym is trashy. PLEASE DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM.
Original review: UNSCRUPULOUS DIRTY THIEVING BUSINESS. 11/01/2020. This unscrupulous/dirty THIEVING of a gym continued to charge me even though I cancelled my membership on the 17th of September of 2019! Just checked my bank statements and realized that they made a bunch of ludicrous charges exceeding the amount of my membership price in late September, TWICE, and then continued to charge me the membership costs every month till now, January 2020.
CONTACTED them about it and they tried to connect me to the billing manager, named Maria, but I got disconnected thrice, before they told me to leave my number so that she can get back to me. BEHOLD, NO CALLS from this damned manager for two days, but of course, I have already predicted that, so I had to call back and was told she will only be available on Monday.
Read many nasty reviews online about this garbage NYSC billing problems, and here I am, one of the many victims, as such. I do NOT recommend NYSC memberships, to anyone, nor my friends. I will do plenty to DISSUADE them from joining NYSC. What a nasty gym and business you are running, NYSC. I have never encountered such problems from Planet Fitness nor Blink Fitness. Trashy gyms will just have trashy management staff, no surprise there.
UPDATE 1/15/2020. Did not receive any calls from Maria on Monday, as confirmed by NYSC front desk on Saturday that she will get back to me. Hence I called back regarding this matter on Tuesday, and was being told MARIA was very BUSY and TOO busy to deal with this, LMFAO! I eventually managed to speak to MARIA regarding the over-charges, and she confirmed that my membership was cancelled in September, and acknowledged that the gym was still continuously charging me after. She brought the issue up with her boss, and gave me a call back.
Maria STATED that they will NOT REFUND me the $160, and instead proceeded to provide a ridiculous suggestion involving me recommending any friends and family to THIS GYM. I was beyond furious and started to raise my voice, and this unscrupulous thieving low-IQ of a manager (lololol). HUNG UP on me. NYSC overcharged $19.99 TWICE, $29.99 ONCE, and TWO CHARGES OF $35 during the month of September 2019, totaling $160, since the day of which my membership was cancelled on the 17th of September 2019. Unbelievable. Hence, I had to contact my bank to intervene and dispute on this matter.

I have been at this club for over 8 years and it has always been an issue. Either they take babysitting away or they increase membership. Keep in mind I pay a yearly "maintenance fee" for upkeeping. I either have to leave and come back or the manager has to try and get my membership decreased to original price. So far this year 2019-2020, 110$ of over charge later.. and if you call corporate they don't care they blame it on current increase in cost and maintenance. Well, weights are missing, more machines do not work. And the sauna well last year it took the whole year to get it back working. Staff at the facility are great. But NYC sports corporate just takes your money and tells you to ** off.

After billing incorrectly a few times I had had enough and asked to cancel which literally took three months of them robbing my account. Then when I called corporate those idiots told me, "Well we can't help you with a refund, you have to get the manager from your local club to do it.." You mean the same ** that forgot to cancel me for three months!!

This is the most unprofessional gym I have ever experienced. The facilities and staff are 3rd rate. They wouldn't stop charging me after my membership was over. I tried to anticipate and stop the charges, but they would change their name every time. NYSC INC, NYSC, NYSC LLC, etc, etc, etc. Finally, I had to cancel my credit card of 10 years to stop the relentless onslaught of charges. My wife has a NYSC membership at a gym in NYC. Completely different!! If you are looking to join a gym in Bay Ridge, there are many other professional alternatives. Please do yourself a favor! Further, I gave them a one star review because they wouldn't allow negative stars.

About 5 weeks ago, I went to the NYSC in White Plains to inquire about memberships. Kevin, who seems to be the main person to talk to new/potential members, offered a reduced monthly membership for the White Plains club which was just perfect for me and also "no annual dues" for the first year (69.99), as I was a returning member. Guess what, the annual fee was charged to my credit card. Called NYSC WP and spoke to Tara, who seemed very familiar with the issue that NYSC charges "returning members" even though they should not. She said that she cannot reverse the charge (even though they should have never charged and it is clearly intentional on their part). The only offer is for them to apply this to my account as credit, which would then be applied to the monthly dues going forward. I do not have a good feeling about this as I just don't trust them, hence posting it here to see if the honor what they say.

I signed up for month to month to give the gym a try. The young man who signed me up said that after the first month the gym would cost $49 per month. Before my first month was up, I cancelled my membership because the gym at the Huntington location was lousy. However, the gym continued to charge me after I cancelled. They stole $150 from me, and refused to return my money. They mentioned a contract that states they will charge you for 45 days following the cancellation. They showed me the contract, which I never signed because my signature wasn't on it. Also even if it applies they charged me $80 more than what the 45 days would have cost. When I complained to the manager, he laughed in my face. There are plenty of better gyms out there, no one needs to be taken advantage like I was.

About a year ago everything changed. The local manager a young lady who is only 2 or 3 hours in the office and never available. The personnel is very very rude. Nobody wants to work. Half of the exercise equipment is either out of order or make such a loud noise that makes me uncomfortable. Facilities such as steam room and sauna are very filthy and stinky. Actually the whole gym does not have a cleaning personnel. So men's locker room wasn't cleaned for months literally. Nobody cares. Any stop-by gyms have a much lower membership fees but also much cleaner and nicer. I have been going to this gym for 8 years, but finally I gave up. So if you are looking for a new gym, by all means stay away from Princeton NYSC. Not worth it.

My partner and I signed up at the Cobble Hill Brooklyn location in person, in late Sept 2019. We signed up for the $24.99 monthly no-contract membership for me, and a $19.99 _add-on_ membership for my partner. The sales associate, Darnell ** repeatedly told us that we would only be paying those monthly fees, and that there was an annual fee of $69.99, but we would only start paying it a year later (in Oct 2020). This was a big reason why we signed up because we were in temp housing in the area and didn't know whether we could remain members for long. However an annual fee charge of $69.99 showed up on my card earlier this week.
I went back to the gym and asked Darnell what was up with that. He told me only my fee was waived not that of my partner. This is even though we signed up in-person, at the same time, AND hers was an add-on membership to mine. At no point did Darnell tell that his claims about the waived annual fee only applied to my primary membership and not to the add-on. I in-fact even asked him about it again before I gave him my credit card while signing up and he had again clarified that the annual fee would not apply until the following year.
Secondly, when we signed up, Darnell told us about the 45-day cancellation policy. We told him that we were in temp housing in the area and there was a chance we may move to another neighborhood in about 5 weeks. I offered to serve immediate notice to cancel on case we moved out. Darnell assured us that this was not needed because "a manager can process a cancellation with immediate effect, as an exception, and since you've told me about the possibility you'll be fine". A few days later, when it turned out we were indeed moving out of the area and I went in to cancel, Darnell flat out denied ever having said any of the above. And then claimed that such an exception is only possible in the first 10 days after sign-up. The 10-day limitation was another thing he neglected to mention when we signed up.
So Darnell essentially lied repeatedly to our faces on both counts above, just to get us to sign up. As a result of which an incorrect annual fee amount was charged and we were asked to pay for the 45-day cancellation period, even though we were told it would be waived. The sales manager Darrell then stepped in and told me he canceled my membership effective Oct 31 and processed a credit for the month of November. He repeatedly assured me that I would not be charged for November.
When I sought to get this in writing in an email later, he changed his story and told me he had only put in a request for the credit but it was not approved yet. Thankfully I had recorded proof of Darrell telling me that he had already processed the credit and no further charges would apply. Deceitful, dishonest sales practices from multiple people on the sales team. I'm sure I'm not the first person they have done this to. I will be telling everyone I can find to stay far away from NYSC.

None of the TV's that were hooked up to the treadmills, bikes, ellipticals, etc worked, and they never bothered to fix them. Watching TV while using the treadmill makes the time go by so much faster, but they were too cheap and lazy to fix it. And for some reason, all classes throughout the summer had been cancelled. This allowed them to falsely promote that they had classes when, in fact, they never had classes to begin with. Such a joke. Charging $35 a month for this is absolute theft. Anyone who has a membership to NYSC needs to stay on top of their credit card statements because they will try anything and everything to steal your money! My contract was only for one year and then after that, I continued. Therefore, I was within my right to cancel. Once I cancelled, they charged me for the next month and a half. This conveniently brought me into my 3rd-4th year of membership and the time that they would charge the annual $60 fee for the upcoming year. They charged me the $60 fee, for a year of gym services that they very well know I won't be using, as well as a month and a half of membership fees, again for a gym that I am NOT using. I called the gym to quit in November after an incident involving a towel and human feces, and they didn’t capture in their records that I quit until February - so they think I should have paid for 4 more months (~$207) until they cancelled me correctly. I called around 6-7 times and spoke to different people at the gym month over month to explain that I had quit and each time I was assured that they would note it and I would be all set and that they were making notes in my account. I've now gone to their Collections Agency and have since tried talking to both the corporation (Town Sports International) and the club themselves and I’ve now been told that they don’t take cancellations over the phone.
Essentially they’re saying there’s no way I could have cancelled over the phone, and that I would have been required to send certified mail to cancel which they said is all in my documentation. No documentation/contract was ever given to me once the gym switched me from my corporate membership to a individual one. I've hired an attorney and am still unable to make any progress with the club or corporate. Obviously impossible if they do not bill till August 3. But told it is all automated so nothing could be done. I am now trying to cancel my membership but told I cannot do so until I pay another late fee and a $10 cancellation. Even then I have to pay for another 45 days.
When I was transferred from Silver Sneakers to paying, they did not mention an annual fee as well as a monthly fee. So now in addition they have just added a monthly fee. A month ago, NYSC Sunnyside gym increased my monthly membership fee without any notification or heads up. When I called the manager at the gym he just can't do much - he said he could put in a request to bring back my fee to original amount (per my agreement), but it's up to the billing department. He has no control over that team. Of course, the fee didn't go down this month. I called back the manager again and guess what he said - there's nothing he can do about it. I've been a member of this gym for a long time (since 2013) but lately everything has been going down - equipment, cleanliness and fees issue.
This is the 2nd time the fee went without any heads up! You have to fight so hard with these people to get the fee signed up per the agreement you signed. First time, I stuck around given its proximity to my apartment. This time, I'm out!!! I just want to give heads up to other people about it. The manager sounded like the billing team lives on a different planet – isn’t this 21st Century? Even if the billing team is in different universe, I’m sure they can be reached by so-called phone or email or even may be good ‘ol snail mail. Jeez!
