We have a lot of genetic issues. My husband and I are both carriers of cystic fibrosis, and he's had leukemia when he was little. So, we wanted to play it safe and do the cord blood banking. His mom and dad did ViaCord with his sister, so he was familiar with it and wanted to do the same. The specialists who helped us were really good. They were very informative, super caring, sweet, and patient. We haven't had issues so far and we're super comfortable recommending them to our friends and family.

ViaCord was very good and I have no complaints about them. We are banking our baby's cord blood to have the ease of mind and the ability to do something with it if we ever need to in the future. I did a lot of research online and ended up choosing ViaCord. They sent the kit to us and we used it when I had a home birth. My midwife gathered the sample for me and so far, ViaCord's service and their price are all great.

My mom had banked my siblings' and my cord blood, and I did some research and thought that it would be a beneficial idea. It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. I had looked into three companies based on my OB's recommendations. ViaCord offered the best paying rates. They were more expensive but they didn't offer all those interest rates that the cheaper companies had. My cord blood specialist was very responsive.

We liked that ViaCord had different payment plans for the length of how long we can store the blood for and we liked their pricing. Our rep was wonderful, very helpful, and answered any questions. The communication once we got the kit, where they wanted to make sure that we understood what to do, was really great.

The only thing was my husband said the hospital staff did not want to touch any part of the kit. There was paperwork inside that was supposed to be filled out. His recommendation would be to make a section that is for the part that the Dad is safely able to touch that so he can fill out ahead of time, and then keep all the sterile stuff separate in the kit so the hospital staff could do their thing. My husband he was like, “Right after she's born, we have to try to figure this kit out, and we didn't wanna touch anything to keep it all sterile” If we had known ahead of time, we could have already had it filled out and ready to go. That aside, I would definitely recommend ViaCord.

He respected the distance, and I truly appreciated that. So far, I haven't received the test results, but the information is clear. The fact that they offer financing is also a perk.

Also, since it was recommended by my doctor, it's something that gives trust and confidence to customers. They mentioned that there are a lot of research for potential cancer, diseases, and even autism like in test trials, not only for a newborn, but also potential siblings, so we wanted to keep the odds high. Hopefully we'll never need them, but it's a good opportunity for the newborn in the future.

I did a little bit of research on which companies I thought were the best, and I picked ViaCord as they were closest to me. I had struggled with infertility for 10 years. My baby's an IVF and I know that there is a bit of a greater risk of childhood cancer. Since she's not ever gonna have any siblings, banking her cord blood stem cells would be a good thing for her just in case she ever needed it.

They mailed the kit to me, and I had it way in advance. When it was ready to be picked up, it was locked. The courier came to my room and picked it up for me. I didn't have to do anything. We have an account online that I can look at. They sent me emails and stuff saying they had received it. They also sent me an email saying that it was enough to freeze. It was great with ViaCord.

The doctor gave us two different companies that could store the stem cells for us. We did our own research and asked around. And turned out that ViaCord would be the best so we decided to get them.

They were amazing. They're above and beyond because we were doing the research and we decided last minute to go with them. They are requiring a little bit longer time just to do all the procedures and send everything in the mail. So we should be calling them even a few months in advance. But we called them two weeks in advance prior to my giving birth. We told them it was urgent, and the next day we received the kit. do that. The next day, we already had the kit.

We received the kit via mail and we took it with us to the hospital. And the hospital is very happy that we have a ViaCord because they are the most familiar with that company. The courier showed up on the exact same day to collect the samples.

Overall ViaCord is pretty good. They have great plans. And when we were comparing to the other plans, this one was in the middle. So it's fair.

That was a relatively quick process with no pressure to sign up. It was just agreeing to do everything, signing off on some electronic disclosures, and then making the payment. I got the box the next day. The carrier called in the hospital, they came, and picked it up. It was no problem. I used to work for a competitor of ViaCord. I was a stem cell specialist. I know the process that ViaCord uses, so I felt fairly sure about using them instead of any other company.

My experience with ViaCord was pretty good. The only thing I didn’t like was the customer service can be a little bit impersonal. They’re such a big company that it’s very generic.

The salesperson that I got could have been better. I don’t think they knew as much about the process as I would like them to know. They didn’t know how to respond to a very knowledgeable consumer asking questions. I had to do my own research, and that threw me off. They’re supposed to give me information and make it easy for me to buy.

The kit was fine. It’s easy and very self-explanatory. The doctors knew exactly what to do. It was great. I actually had my sister bank with them. I think as a company, in general, ViaCord has a fairly decent process. Maybe not the best but pretty good.

The fact that they’re backed by big companies, it puts you at ease because it makes them more stable when it comes to the market. I know that they were bought out recently in the last three years. So far, so good.

I tried to do the cord banking with my first pregnancy, but it was a C-section emergency and we didn't have the time. I grabbed one of the ViaCord pamphlets from one of the doctors’ offices.

I did a little research online because there's two or three different companies that do the same thing – collecting and storing.

Then I decided to use ViaCord. Signing up took only one call. They explained to me. They sent me an email with documents. They said that they were going to send me the kit. But I had called my doctor's office and they said they had one. I got it from them because I called really late in the pregnancy. I felt more comfortable just physically getting it instead of waiting, even though they offered to send it super quickly. I just got the one from my doctors.

And then they explained I needed to send them a picture with some number that had a code or something from the box that I got from the doctors. They called me again a couple times to follow up and see how things were. They sent me labels by mail to replace the ones on the box that I got from my doctors. They called me to follow up just to see and to let me know. They sent me an email when they received it and that’s it.

So far, so good. I hope it's like insurance. You pay for it and you hope you never use it.

The cord blood specialist was great. I dropped the ball on getting us signed up and stuff, and then I didn't prepare for our kit in time. The free offering was, we got that. And then someone called me the next day and said that we provided another piece and would I like the other part of storage. I can't remember what it was. And then we made the payment, so now we have both types of storage with you guys.

I would describe ViaCord as peace of mind, and I don't remember exactly. I think it was $700 for both types of storage. Peace of mind in the event, whether you know something is wrong with your children or not, it is just a safety blanket in the event that something comes up unexpected.

My husband had to talk to them and they were informative on the phone. They mentioned the different health benefits and the different research that they continue to do with the cord blood. I've also told people about all of the benefits of actually doing the cord blood banking. Most of the time, ViaCord is running some discount deal. So it's usually worth it for the first year.

After I delivered my baby, they were in the hospital. They got the cord and everything went smoothly. And with this pregnancy, we decided to do it again. They're really helpful. Any time I call them, they always answer. One-time, I had issues with the billing and they helped me.

ViaCord came up on the top Google search and we were already aware that this should be done. It was for the first pregnancy that we had three years ago. We had chosen ViaCord again for our second pregnancy and we are yet to witness the second one. But the first one was great. The interactions with the specialist were seamless and smooth and the kit was delivered really timely. We used to get proper text messages and emails as to what's going on with the kit and when it arrived at the facility.

If you think about the long term, it has many benefits. It can come in really handy if there is somebody in your family who really needs those stem cells. You never know when an event like that may happen. It's better to be safe than sorry and it impacts your life in a really big way Even if you are having to spend that kind of money, it's completely worth it.

It's a difficult time when the birth of the baby happens and you're busy with so many things. But ViaCord makes sure that at least one thing gets checked off your list and we don't have to worry about it at all.

I do remember them explaining that the cord blood could be used for the baby or the siblings. The tissue could be used for saving the baby’s siblings or the parents or grandparents. But the chances of it being effective get less and less as it goes up the line.

It was good and very straightforward. The kit had easy instructions to follow to get it all situated and used during delivery. Any time we had questions, someone had answered the phone. I had no hiccups at all.

My interest in preserving these stem cells stems from the potential health benefits and their ability to tackle certain diseases, making it a kind of health investment.

However, once the hospital was involved, things didn't go quite as planned. Although the doctors in our area did an excellent job of receiving the sample, communication was a bit problematic when coordinating with the pickup person. After having the baby, the transition was particularly challenging because it took around 3 to 4 hours before someone could pick up the sample, leaving us weary and trying to get some rest late at night.

There was a significant communication gap on ViaCord's part regarding how the sample would be handed off, especially since the hospital staff is not authorized to deliver the kit to the pickup person. The person tasked with picking up the sample didn't contact us when present, and when we followed up with the main number, they seemed confused about the correspondence done. It turns out the delivery person was in the emergency room for an hour but miscommunication led to her almost getting one of my blood samples instead of the correct one.

Regarding the follow-up, ViaCord assured me pre-delivery they would let me know if the sample quality wasn't adequate and offered a refund in such cases. However, I've not heard back from them, leaving me unsure of whether they successfully received the sample.

Given these unresolved communication issues, I'd rate my experience with ViaCord at about a 4. Improvements are needed, particularly for families delivering at odd hours, to ensure smoother transitions and clear instructions for transferring samples to the designated pickup person.

We just had to call him. We have all three of the children banked.

ViaCord’s customer service is very good. It was very easy, simple, and convenient with them. They also called ahead of time after I ordered the kit, after we sent the kit to see if we had any questions, and a third time after receiving the kit. With the price, it seems like a lot, but it's not in today's medical times. They sent us an estimate since we don't have my wife under our insurance officially yet. They're waiting, so they sent us a good-faith estimate of her first baby appointment. It was $961 bucks to see a pediatrician to just check her vitals and do a checkup at one-week old. When you think of it that way, it's well worth the investment. It’s $1,200 bucks for the kit, and a couple $100 bucks a year for storage. It’s definitely worth it, so it didn't stop me.

I first heard about ViaCord when I was pregnant with my son. I was intrigued by the idea that stem cells could be used to solve long-term health conditions that might develop over time. This was my first and only child, so if there was a way to anticipate and protect his health, I wanted to do that.
My experience with the cord blood representative was great. I went to a seminar, kind of a brunch meeting at a hotel near the hospital where I was doing prenatal training a few years ago. They did a whole presentation about how it worked and the benefits of it, and I was impressed. It was awesome. It was all women, so it was mostly focused on women at the time.
My husband didn’t go, so I described to him the potential long-term benefits for our son. If there was even a small chance that one of us developed cancer or another difficult disease later in life, those cells could potentially work for us.
The collection process went incredibly well. It was very easy at the time of birth. The doctor collected the sample and it was sent off. It has been trouble-free. My son is now 12. Every year, the viability of the cells and tissues remains positive as they gather more data, so the useful life of that material continues to extend over time.

It’s kind of a press-and-forget situation. They handle everything and I get my bill every year on auto pay. I get once or twice a year updates from them on the state of the technology and new applications. I read those and find them very interesting. They don’t over-communicate, and the level of communication is perfect for me.

    Response from ViaCord

    Dear Mark,

We’re sincerely sorry for any frustration or miscommunication you experienced during this process. We understand how important a smooth cancellation experience is, and we regret that this wasn’t as clear as it should have been.

For compliance reasons, we do require a signed authorization form to process cancellations. Just as paperwork is required when registering for our service, we also require it upon cancellation. While we understand that email confirmation might seem sufficient, this additional step helps us protect both our customers and their stored samples as cancelling an account could have serious implications, should a family ever need their stem cells in the future.

We do apologize if this requirement wasn’t communicated clearly from the start. We appreciate your honest feedback and will use it to improve how we communicate these steps moving forward. If you have any additional questions, our customer care team is available at (866) 668-4895.

I knew a lot about it already, so the rep just said we'd get that kit sent home, explained the options and the price. Just things I had questions about. But I was aware of the whole process and everything. Since it hasn't happened yet, I don't know if we'll get enough stem cells, but so far, the process has been very smooth and nice.

Our only worry about this whole thing is if the yearly fee increases, we would be pretty bummed about that. So far, the price is good and it's doable for us. But if they're gonna increase the storage fees in the future, it would be bad for us. Because we signed up for something with a certain price and amount of money, and if it gets way more expensive, we don't know if it's a good deal anymore. But we knew this was an investment that we were willing to make and it was okay.

I haven’t delivered my baby yet, but I do have the product. I got it within the week. So, I am gonna be taking it with me to the hospital. But setting it up was easy. And their website was easy to navigate and very informative.

I decided to bank my baby’s cord blood and stem cells because I was reading up about it, and I really liked everything I was reading, and I thought it was important, just in case. You never know what the future holds. So, just knowing that I made that decision for my baby makes me feel comfortable and happy about it because if something were to ever happen and I didn’t make the decision to do it, I would have been very disappointed that I didn’t.

Talking with the representative at ViaCord was very comfortable and reassuring. She was patient with the whole process of me making the decision whether I wanted to do it or not. It wasn’t overwhelming. And she was very pleasant to speak with. And she just kind of gave me a little bit of information and feedback about it. And after doing my research as well, I decided this is a great decision for my little one coming in the future.

I did a bit of research, and most of the brands that I checked, including ViaCord, were quite well-known. Since ViaCord was the one that my clinic was partnering with, I went ahead with them. I did everything online and it was quite simple. They sent me a link and I created an account. It took me five minutes, then yesterday, I completed the questionnaire about the health of the mother. It was very quick to set up, and they offered a $20 amazon gift card to go into a webinar.

I just started the process, and I haven't had my baby yet, but in the webinar, they gave a lot of examples of potential uses for the cord blood stem cells. It's a bit uncertain in the sense of people not knowing if the baby has some condition that they will be able to use their own tissues, but maybe it can be used for a brother. I'm always about prevention and taking precautions, so I'd rather have it there in case I need it than need it later and not have it. It was something that I had to decide on. The moment the baby is born, they have to take the sample. I don't have that many options to think about it later, so I just went ahead with it.

You can change your mind even later if you don't wanna do that anymore. It's not that you have to commit for 10 years or so. Also, they provide all the instrument that you and the hospital need. If our child were to fall sick later on or if someone in our family would be sick, then banking our child's cord blood is something that we can benefit from later on in life. I thought that this would be important, and I didn't wanna do it with just one child. I wanted to do it with both my children. However, I didn't have a great experience with Cooper Surgical CBR, so I wanted to switch and bank with a different company. I found ViaCord and they had great reviews and I thought I'd try them this time. The rep was wonderful. She was very informative, nice and very easy to talk to, so I felt good about the process. I've worked in the health care field for 20 years and it's worth it to have stem cells banked in the case of emergency, whether it's my child or a family member that can use them. So I banked it with my son two years ago and now I'm banking with my daughter. Hopefully, here in the next couple weeks. ViaCord has been fantastic. They're very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. They have no issue laying out all of the different options and they've made it a very easy experience so far.

I checked into another banking company with this recent pregnancy and with the other one, you have to pay everything all upfront, which was between $8,000 and $15,000, just to go ahead and do the services to bank. Whereas with ViaCord, you get whatever package you pick then you pay annually for storage. Also, the other company said it's a lifetime storage fee, but it's for 25 years. So, God willing, my children and I will still be alive in 25 years. Also, ViaCord was very transparent. I asked them, because they're in Ohio, where they bank everything, about generators, facility, all of the information, and how to make sure that it's actually my kids’ cord blood that we're getting. And they had answer after answer for everything.

I said, “I've been calling and the kit hasn't been picked up.” I called back again two times, and they said that they were gonna pick up the kit at 12 a.m. I delivered in the afternoon. But nobody came and we were waiting. I called back again and they arrived at 6 a.m. That part was not that good. It took too long for them to pick up the kit. I also had a concern that when they sold the kit, they told me that I only had two hours after delivery for the kit to be picked up. But the whole time that I was calling, they told me that I had 40 hours. I didn't know who was telling the truth. They didn't come in two hours so I'm hoping that the kit is okay. But overall, it's a very good thing to do. If you can do it, do it.

Some of the process was a little confusing and weird. It doesn't seem they're completely buttoned up. Our son is gonna be born later this month and we're using a surrogate. A woman from ViaCord was specifically assigned to me as my coordinator, and she gave me the information for the process via email. We had a couple of phone calls as well. She was very responsive and let me know what the cost was (I was told it was 700 something a year for storage, which is a lot of money, but compared to everything else that I paid for, it doesn't seem crazy), what the service does, how it works, that I would have to fill out a questionnaire, and that the kit would be mailed to our surrogate, who would have to bring it to the hospital.

But when I got the questionnaire, it didn't seem directed towards my situation. It was insensitive, talking about being a genetic mother, which I was clear that that wasn't the case. I had filled out what I could, went back to the coordinator and told her that that was bizarre. She apologized profusely and found out that there was something internally that was not working properly. Then I had someone from the customer service department call me and also apologize. But recently I've been getting phone calls saying that I didn't fill out all the paperwork or that they didn't get all the paperwork so they couldn't complete the process. I went back to the coordinator and told her my husband, the surrogate and I filled everything out. I asked her what was missing and she said nothing. But I got the message again, so I called customer service. They said there was an error in their system but it was fixed and I was all set.

The process was made easy when I went to sign up. The box with the instructions was clearly labeled. At one point during the last couple of years, the card I had on file expired. They were good about following up to get another payment method. It was effective without being irritating. They handled that well in a way that wasn't at all an off-putting experience, and that could have been with some other companies because I had a couple of similar auto-pay situations where the card changed and the follow up was less pleasant. I just signed up for my second child who is expected to be born in June and the experience was positive both times though there was a pretty substantial increase to my first daughter and my second in terms of the pricing.

But when I talked to her on the phone, she was quite nice. Every time I spoke with her, she was very friendly and professional. But I told her I was waiting on a tax return to come in before I could purchase it, or I was gonna talk to my husband about it, and it just ended up being a lot of phone calls and emails and I wanted her to leave me alone.

ViaCord has the best price and the rep was very helpful. When I spoke to her, she was able to explain to me all the different aspects of what the cord blood stem cells could help. She also explained to me the genetic testing.

We attended a presentation ViaCord gave and after the presentation, we had a relationship established with them. They were fast in responding and their cost was reasonable compared to other options.

The cord blood specialist at ViaCord was amazing. I love her. She's great. She emailed me all the information. She checked in on me and answered any questions that I had. She gave me her information and made the whole process very simple and easy to understand. Our specialist was really personable and took a real interest in our situation. We also used their online tools to look up some information. And the rep sent us a lot of links that could help us make our decision. We never felt pressured. She just left it to us. Our experience was really good.

We signed up with ViaCord through a form and it was good and easy. The rep had a great attitude and was very accessible. She explained a lot. She was someone that looked like you'd wanna work with her. ViaCord is a little pricey, but so is everything else. So, for what it's supposed to do, it is what it is.

ViaCord has done a perfectly fine job of staying in touch. We're having another baby in about a month, and we're gonna bank his blood and the tissue from the umbilical cord with them as well. Our rep has been very helpful when I called her and had questions. She let me know about discounts and when prices were scheduled to go up. However, they had stuff for me to fill out that they sent me, and some of the questions were a little confusing. They would ask about multiple things in the same question.

ViaCord was recommended to me by my doctor and it was a very easy experience. It's expensive, but the quality is worth it as well as the service.

Teresa, the representative from ViaCord who worked with me, was very reachable, knowledgeable and friendly. She addressed me by name and remembered things that we spoke about from the last time. So, it was great. It felt very personal for something so important. The customer support was fantastic and I didn't feel like I was just like another sale.

Both my doctor and Teresa went into detail on the different types of things that you could use cord blood banking for. Hopefully, it's something that you'll never have to use. But it's better to have and not use it than need it and not have it. It's not as unattainable or unreachable or something that you can do as you think. People should reach out and get details on it because it's important. The only concern I had at the beginning before doing more research was pricing. I thought it was something that I wouldn't be able to afford. But after I spoke to my doctor along with the representative, I saw that it was pricey but not nothing that would break the bank too much.
