Americord has a technology in which they are able to get more live cells compared to other banks and one of the associates explained this to me well. Setting up with Americord was pretty easy as the associate was able to provide me all the options. We were able to talk about what things would work and what kind of plan would work for us. It was very simple to understand and set it up. Also, the person who picked up the kit showed up on time and he checked out everything. Americord has met my expectations but I haven't followed up with them since then and they haven’t followed up with me after the package was delivered. The only time I received a call was when they said that they received the package.

My sister spoke to me about Americord and said that they did more testing than the other ones I've used. The person that I spoke with on the phone set everything up. He was very sweet, and he even gave me his track number which was really nice with any questions. I felt like I can call him with any questions, and they took care of everything. Someone from Americord came and picked it up. Overall, I had a fine experience and I would recommend them.

Americord was responsive to my questions, and it was easy to get a hold of them. They were always available and they were always checking on me. The kit was easy to follow. Then my husband called them and they picked it up right away. We were kept on the loop with my son’s cord blood processing. I want to make sure that in the event that my son needs it, then it is there available for him. We had a good experience overall. I was lucky enough to get a discount being a health care worker and the cost was quite reasonable for us.
This is Marty, the CEO of Americord. I would like to first thank you for your kind words regarding your positive experience with our team here at Americord. We are committed to providing the best experience at all times to our clients.
We are pleased you chose Americord to bank your baby’s cord blood stem cells. When considering your cord blood, cord tissue, and placenta tissue banking options, we believe it’s important to be transparent about our costs and services, but also how other companies measure up in comparison to us. In this regard, I am so happy you took notice of our efforts to provide competitively priced, high-quality products, and excellent client service.
In comparison to our competitors, we do not pay doctors a referral fee. We do not employ a large pharma-rep type sales staff, and we do not have the excessive budgets that go along with supporting that. We simply pass the savings on directly to the client. We feel it is important to offer the option of cord blood banking to every family.
Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback, we are so happy to have you as part of our Americord family!

I banked my kids' cord blood a year ago to protect their future. It can be used if there was any issue with the blood or any type of a disease. And in the future, there might be a new medicine or a cure using it. I subscribed with Americord and I had a good experience with them. The courier was timely and the package was easy to read and understand.

We are happy to have an option to take some measure of protection for our daughter against serious illnesses that she might end up having and decided to bank her cord blood. Americord's price made us pick them over other cord blood banks and it met our expectations. My husband coordinated everything with them but there was a little bit of confusion with their courier and I think he was a third party. He seems to not fully understand the protocol when came to the hospital to pick the cord blood up. Otherwise, everybody that we worked with directly through Americord seemed very good and helpful. Our experience was seamless and it seems worth our time and money if we run into the circumstances where it would be beneficial for us.

Americord offered us to pay them a lump sum for all of the 20 years and not have to pay a fee. Banking the baby's cord blood is a preventive precaution. It may not be super useful today, but I don't know what's going to come up after three or five years. People are going to find out newer ways to use this and I would not want to be in a place where there is treatment available but I just don’t have the resource.
The specialist who did the extraction was from the hospital and the medical courier who picked up the samples was there within four hours of the delivery, which was in the middle of the night. So that was good. However, while the kit was easy, they could have educated me on what to do as far as it goes because we found out after opening the kit that we needed to take a sample before the delivery and it was already too late. I would suggest that they give instructions and not just hand the kit.
Also, one of the things that I’m not quite satisfied with the Americord experience is their follow up. They collected the samples but I don’t know what happened after. I don’t know how it is tracked. They'll store the cord, and it will be good for all the 20 years it gets stored. But there’s a lot of processes that happens before it goes into storage. I would like to be involved in every single part of that process, but I was not. I haven’t called them and see what is the status but I would expect something like this to be done by Americord. This can definitely be improved if Americord actually followed-up. Still, I’m satisfied with the way it was and I would recommend them.

We started researching about cord blood banking before we even got pregnant so we knew the benefits and the possibilities of having this tool could open in the future. If something goes wrong with the baby, we wanted to be safe and the benefits in the future are tremendous. The cost at Americord was better, plus the reviews and the experience other people have put online were much different. When we signed up, they were really on the ball and they followed up with us. The cord specialist was very attentive. He gave us our space when we wanted to look at other companies. He was also always available to answer questions all throughout the day that we got our kit and he was great throughout the way.
The paperwork was easy but the initial kit was a little bit confusing as to what was to be sent back and what we would have to do with that. I wish I would have had more details but I guess the first time was overwhelming. The doctor was also able to figure it out so it worked out in the end. We came in with very limited expectations, not knowing what cord blood banking was. The experience has been great so far. Everything is moving smoothly. We haven't had to use anything, we haven't had to contact the company. And hopefully we never have to but if we do, I'm sure everything will work out fine. So I love them. I'll recommend them to anybody who asks me.

It can be daunting, as there are numerous resources that explain the benefits, options, and the process of cord blood banking. I hope you found our Topic Center full of valuable information for your research.
I am sorry to hear that you experienced any confusion with our instruction steps. We strive to make the process as simple as possible. I will take your feedback back to the team for review in the hope of simplifying the collection process.

Americord offered more than other cord banks and also seemed the most appealing out of all of them. Their cord blood specialist was wonderful, very helpful and got everything resolved very quickly. I was on the fence if I should bank my baby's cord blood but I figured it was like a life insurance policy. Then it was unknown when I was going to go the hospital since I was on bed rest, yet within 24-48 hours I got the package on my doorstep. Overall, Americord has met all my expectations and everything has been positive so far.

I had my last child’s cord blood banked since there could be health benefits for the child, for the siblings, and for myself. Also, since it was already our last child and my other children were not banked. I did some research and found that Americord was the most reasonable. It was a one-time fee for 18 years and they would bank all three pieces, the placenta, baby's cord, and tissue. And, the kit would be shipped international for free going back to them. Even more, the person I spoke with was really informative, knowledgeable, positive, accommodating, and has timely response. But the pick up for the kit did not go as planned. The carrier came to the hospital and he needed a sticker or label. The label was missing from the original box and even though Americord made it right, it took a lot longer than anticipated. Other than that, I had a great experience with them.

I liked the attention that Americord gave me. They were very kind, really down to earth and very approachable. I liked the accessibility to pay in part as well. It also helped me too. It was an amazing and fantastic experience. Everything was done very smoothly that I didn't even have to worry about anything. The explanation of when did we have to call, when they came and pick up the stuff was just simple. So far, I'm using just the banking and it is a great benefit. We did this to protect my daughter, to make sure I have a possible way to help her and assist her. I was trying to make a decision that could change her future somehow. If other people are wondering something about Americord, they should just do it. And hopefully, they can even do the whole package because I had to do a partial package. But if I could do all of it, I will.

I spoke to lengths with different companies and a lot of them pulled the strings and tried to make emotional blackmail so I was a bit put off. But with Americord, the gentleman who I dealt with wasn't pushy. He left me to make up my mind and let me come back to him rather than kept calling me, and he was also knowledgeable. My wife was really keen to bank our baby's cord blood but I was ignorant about it and didn't want to be heavily sold to it as well, so Americord was a nice balance. They gave me all the information I needed. Also, they have a unique way to store and they’re really well priced in the market. Everything was stored fine, and we would be paying for 15 months. I had a good experience with them overall.

Among the nationally recognized cord blood banks, Americord gave me the best offer. We also researched online and the online reviews were good for them. We got a very good response when we called to inquire about their services. There was also a discount if we made a full payment and it came with a 20-year prepaid plan. The specialists were really good. Whoever provided the on-call service was really prompt. We contacted a couple of days in advance, but we got the kit quickly and we were able to turn it over. The information inside the kit was also very detailed.
After the cord blood was delivered, we had a couple of questions and we were interacting with one of the customer service representatives. She was very responsive. She gave us an online portal where we can look at our records, but it didn't have all the details. It didn't specifically say until what date was it valid. I knew it was 20 years, but I didn't know the exact date. I expected the portal to give me a complete information, but the information was more on scientific terms. It was a little bit vague and I expected the information to be in layman's term.
After the cord blood reaches you and the touch points after that, those are the places where the improvement is required. The 20-year term is a very long time. I don't have to be searching for the contract 10 years down the line. If there's an online portal which gives me all the details, that would be very helpful. There should also be a referral benefit available for both the parties or even one party. Nevertheless, the experience with Americord was good and the expectations were met. I would suggest it.

The delivery guy, though, cross-checked if everything is intact and he found that it was not zipped, so he zipped it. The courier who picked it up came on time like what they promised and we got a notification when they would come. It went as planned and whatever I wanted, I got. Everything went smoothly from getting the cord until cutting and confirming and including payments. All is good with Americord.

So we were trying to figure out exactly how we needed to do this thing. They were very responsive and answered all of my questions. They knew what they were doing which helped relieve a lot of stress at that point in the process.
The kit was very simple. It was very clear and easy for the hospital to understand exactly what they needed to do. It has made something that was very important to us very easy to do. Americord was offering a $1,000 off for the Black Friday sale. The hard part at the beginning was I did an inquiry through the website. My husband and I shared an email address and I have another email address. The one that we chose to go with wasn't synced up between the person who was trying to sell me from the other email address. I was getting contacted by multiple people so that was kind of frustrating, but that was of my own doing. Once we got things moving though, I had no problems whatsoever. We were sitting on the fence about the cost for a while and I decided to pull the trigger. I have multiple sclerosis so purchasing this was pretty important to me. I might pass it to my son, and there might be some sort of miracle cure out there the time he or I would potentially need it.
The whole process was pretty seamless and it was completely easy to get done. We gave them a call first thing in the morning because they delivered the kit at about midnight, and somebody was there pretty quick. The kit and everything that we got was very easy to use. The nursing staff who was trying to put everything together after I delivered had some questions, but they figured it out. I remember looking over at them at the counter where they were reading through all the instructions where they had some questions. I tried to prep them and we told them that we have the kit and everything. And they were, "Oh, yeah. We do this all the time." But maybe they have never experienced this one before. It would help if there's something that Americord can provide the hospitals before a patient even comes in.
For a potential new mom, it seems like a financial barrier and hassle upfront. But using Americord is extremely valuable and they've been transparent with the process. However, I'm not real sure about how the process would work if I would need to use Americord. It would be really nice if I had something that I could just file away in our fire safe. That would be a guarantee of a thing that we could just go to that direct place if we ever needed it because I kind of imagine that if we ever need it, there's going to be some stress around needing that. Also, I felt like I was told different stories when I was going after this $1,000 off thing. It didn't feel like one person knew what was going on from another and that just felt a little disjointed. There should be some way for them to consolidate.

My experience with Americord was mostly positive. We had done it with our first baby and we figured that if there was a possibility that it’d be used, we might as well do it. And we could afford it. I liked how Americord offered the pay upfront option rather than the monthly option. However, we ended up being charged by our doctor to collect it. When I spoke to Americord, they said that they would reimburse that, and that was a bit of a process. I had to follow up probably three times in order for them to do it. So that was the main issue. But everyone I spoke to was nice.

Americord had the best information about the cord blood banking, stem cell banking for baby as well as stem cell banking for mom. That provides a better exact match to mom. They also had a great online presence and how they did their information than all of the other companies, so I felt comforted and confident. When I signed up, I got a message from them congratulating me. As I got closer to the due date, I received positive encouragement from them. They also sent me a message to keep the kit at room temperature. I was pregnant throughout the winter and if they hadn’t sent that additional text message, we were going to keep the kit in the car, which would have made the whole kit void.
However, the labels were confusing and tough to understand. I wanted to bank part of my placenta, my cord blood and the cord tissue, as well as to encapsulate part of my placenta to make pills for myself. When my husband and my OB were going through the kit and a couple of other assistants were helping, they ended up sending the cord tissue still attached to the placenta. They didn’t know that it needed to be cut from the placenta, and we were really disappointed that the cord tissue had gone to the bin discarded.
My OB-Gyn was very protective and she cut my placenta into two pieces. This is not something that we had checked with Americord previously, but they had no issue with it when we sent it in. We were nervous and we contacted them and they were supportive of our decision to do that. We found out that some of the other places wouldn’t have accepted the placenta if it wasn’t whole. We also had questions about how many cells they got or how much blood and things like that and when we called them, they were really positive. Also, the guy who picked up the kit was sweet.

We're the kind of people who probably should get into banking our baby's cord blood, just in case. We learned about it and we called the folks but we were too close to the actual pregnancy and we couldn’t find any public banks in the area that would accept us on such short notice. I had chosen out of all the possible banks and I couldn’t work with them. That’s why we went with a private bank and chose Americord.
I’ve tried to research cord blood banking as best as I possibly could and do everything I could in a short amount of time and they answered all the questions that I could possibly throw at them though I'm sure everyone had already answered all those questions a thousand times before. Everyone I’ve talked to there had been very professional, flexible, communicative and understanding. We felt more comfortable with Americord and what they were offering. It was easier with them too. We have a mixed race child and it would be hard to find a Polish-Kenyan match so we decided to bank his cord blood. We went with Americord because of the placental and tissue preservation for the actual cord. The week before we decided to pull the trigger on it, there was a study that was published that talked about cloning an entire embryo from two sources. The sources were the placenta and actual cord tissue. So, between those two structures, you have all the building blocks you need to make an entire embryo.
I was very impressed with the specialist. Also, the service was seamless and worked as advertised. Whatever hiccups we did have, they were solvable problems in a very reasonable timeframe. The courier showed up and took the kit. It's been fantastic with Americord. My wife and I are both registered nurses working in oncology so we understand a bit of science. We have preserved all the building blocks for our son and this is important together with regenerative medicine. So in terms of like marketing promotion, or how that may or may not be used in the future, I think that that information would be really helpful for laypeople or other folks to know about.

We thought to keep our baby’s cord blood because nowadays anything can happen to anyone at any time. I told the Americord representative that I’ll give the cord tissue and cord blood and the doctor tagged it and put it inside the kit. When the person came I gave the kit to that person so I believe that both of cord tissue and blood are inside. When I called them I was told that they only found cord blood and not cord tissue. At that point it has been a week so even if I talked to my doctor it would be no help. But their cost is good compared to others. The cord blood specialist was very knowledgeable and the courier did his job to pick the kit up. Americord was very polite and super helpful when I needed them.

I have diabetes so I wanted to bank my baby's cord blood in case we needed it. We went with Americord since they were reviewed well on the internet. All they had to do was make sure that we were able to get everything to them and we did that. Their reps were easy to work with. They were there the day of the birth and were very responsive. The courier picked up the kit within an hour or two and I haven't had to follow up with them. Their people over the phone were very helpful, too. The real test would be if we ever needed the cord blood, and hopefully, it'll be there. But as of now, I'm perfectly satisfied with Americord.

We used Americord on our first daughter and there weren't as many choices back then. We found them user-friendly and easy to use. We also wanted to pay the entire sum in one time rather than having a monthly payment, and they were one of the only ones at that time that offered that. Our experience with their rep was excellent. My husband first spoke to her over the computer and she was great. Dealing with their courier also went off without a hitch. When you're having a baby, the last thing you want to have to worry about is all the logistics of something else. It's worth every penny and more to have the opportunity to save your child’s life, so for us, banking our baby's core blood was a no-brainer. We would use Americord again.

I've used Americord twice for my children. What they do is as soon as you call them from the hospital that the stem cells have been extracted they immediately show up to come and pick it up. And then they call you back to tell you if it was successful and if they have enough to store. My biggest concern is if they have the proper safeguards so that they can prevent any unexpected loss of the stem cells. My eldest is three and a half so it's still a new experience and I worry about putting two different children at the same bank. But the actual experience is great and when more people start doing it maybe the prices will come down a little bit. I'm satisfied and as far as the service or the product I haven't had any issues.

Banking the baby's cord blood was a service that was offered to us when my sister and I were born. It would be helpful as there are some people in my family that had some of the ailments that cord blood could have helped them with and if anything comes up in the future, I'd like to be ready for it. When I did my research, I found that Americord had all I was looking for in a cord blood bank in terms of pricing, how long the cord blood could be held, and how much the cord blood could be used. They cover the basics in being able to circumvent illnesses in the future. There was one sales rep in particular that I dealt with. I had two quick conversations with her and she was knowledgeable and able to answer all of my questions. So far, it has been pleasurable with Americord and I haven't had any issues with them. I know that stem cell research is getting far and that it has many benefits especially if my baby ends up with any kind of cancer, I wanted him to have a chance on it. Americord is working on other conditions as well so there’s a potential treatment in the future and I want to give my child that opportunity. Americord said that if the cord blood wasn’t proper and they couldn’t retrieve it, they weren’t going to charge me. I also felt there were no hidden fees in anything which was really nice and they were going to do the cord blood, the tissue, and the placenta. That was definitely something that I thought was a good thing. The whole process was seamless and I was happy with it. The cord blood specialist was great. Everything was good and easy and I’m glad I did it.

I chose Americord with my first daughter so I wanted to go ahead and keep everything the same. Their website was very informative and I liked what I read. They had good pricing and when I called, I received excellent customer service. Their specialist Jazz was great and amazing as well. She went through different options when I called trying to figure out if we could afford it at the time. I was able to think about it and she followed up with me. When I decided against it but changed my mind, she was very helpful and she said, “I’m so glad you’re going to do it now.” She literally answered me from home when she said, “Don't worry about it. I’ll take care of it”. My daughter was a planned C-section and we did this literally a week before she was born. So she went above and beyond.
Also, the courier was fast and straight to the point. I’m very pleased with everything about Americord and I've already recommended them to three different people. On the other hand, we hope it’s something we never have to use but we did it for peace of mind that it can help if we needed it. In terms of what I read, I also feel confident that if we have to use it, we made the right choice with Americord.

I was really not happy with the courier who was sent to pick up the cord blood. He showed up covered in dirt like he had been working construction for the day. They didn’t look like a courier service. They were filthy and I almost didn’t even give it to them because I was so uncomfortable thinking that they're who I’ve trusted with something so precious and then that's how they showed up. That was awful. My husband ended up on the phone with Americord and taking pictures of it, and it was really sketchy. I also wish we would have gotten a package in the mail afterwards to make the process feel complete rather than just an email.

Americord answered every question I had and sent me all the information I asked for before I went with them. They were easy to contact and if I left a message, they called me right back. They made things easy so we went with them. Also, I asked them about the whole process, how they pick up and how the blood is stored and everything went exactly as they said it would. Nothing was left out of the process and I didn’t feel like I was blindsided by anything. I also had a brief exchange with the courier and he was very pleasant, polite and he even congratulated me on my daughter.
Overall, Americord was a very professional and courteous company. After doing the research and speaking with the doctor, several family members and our friends who used the same thing and the way technology is revolutionized and changing so fast, I decided I'd rather have the cord blood and not need it than need it and not have it. I would definitely do business with them again.

Very few banks have a cord tissue saving along with the blood and Americord is one of them. There’s a couple more banks that we know of but Americord is more affordable so we went with them. This is our first baby and we aren’t sure exactly what the cord blood is for and though we are spending a few thousand dollars up front, the specialist explained everything in detail why and what can be done with it. He’s knowledgeable and followed up with us on a timely fashion.
Americord sent the kit and right after the baby was born, the doctor’s office collected the tissue and the blood cord then sent it over. It was a self-explanatory kit that the nurse and the physician were able to use. Once Americord got it, they called and told us that they wouldn’t be able to harvest enough cells from the cord blood and the tissue. We got another call telling us they were able to get enough cells from the cord tissue and the cord blood. They said that it got stored and we did the certificate of the storage and got a copy. Americord's track record for having a higher cell count in the cord blood was attractive. It's also interesting that they store blood tissue and placenta, too. In addition, the guy that started the company was one of the principals that started the ViaCord and their technology is now 10 years old. He wanted to start a new entity that has all the latest and greatest so, we went with them to store my son's blood. He's now six and it gives us a peace of mind knowing that his blood is stored out there. Everything was packed by my doctor so, there were no issues with anything being spoiled and the courier came the next morning.
The Americord rep that I dealt with was very informative, laid out all the facts and not pushy. It was easy to determine the financial side of it too. It was more expensive going into it, but we don’t have the recurring annual fee for banking than I had with Cord Blood Registry - their competitor. With the other cord blood companies – ViaCord, Cord Blood Registry, LifeCell, CryoLife – they require that you pay an annual fee for however long you'd store the blood. For my CBR, it's 50 bucks a year. With Americord, it's a one-time fee of $6,000 for all three items, but you're covered for the next 26 years.
They're only going out for 26 years, but when that time comes, there will be so many companies getting into the market that'll be much more competitive but the benefits have yet to catch up to the cost. The Americord folks also feel that once the benefits are realized, the insurance companies are going to be stepping up and covering the expense for the storage fees because the benefits are going to minimize their long term exposure to cost for serious illnesses. Americord has totally met my expectations. I'm confident that they’ll be around and I'd recommend them.

We looked into those other banks and Americord was the one that said, "If you pay us once, we'll never charge you again." We like that because we didn't want to be billed every year, though it also makes it a little more expensive than some of the other banks. But we're happy so far. The process was also easy. The cord blood specialist was very respectful and she answered all our questions.
This is Martin Smithmyer, the CEO of Americord. Let me first thank you for your thoughtful words regarding your experience with Americord. I commend you on your research process. It can be daunting, as there are numerous resources that explain the benefits, options, and the process of cord blood banking. I hope you found our Topic Center full of valuable information for your research. We work hard to make the research process as easy as possible on our website because we understand that having a baby is a stressful time and we want to do whatever we can to ease the burden.
Americord prides itself on our ability to provide convenient one-time payments for our affordable, high-quality product for a number of reasons. We do not pay doctors a referral fee we, do not employ a large pharma-rep type sales staff and do not have the excessive budgets that go along with supporting that. We simply pass the savings on directly to the client. We feel it is important to offer the option of cord blood banking to every family.
Thank you for taking the time to provide this valuable feedback.Sincerely,

We are in the medical field and we think that our baby's cord blood might be helpful in the future for certain diseases. The pickup was quick and the courier was right on time. And then we tried to reach out to see if there is anybody from Americord to come and take blood for us even if it's not part of the treatment because the nurse at the hospital refused to do that. But Americord didn't have anybody to come out. My husband is a physician so he was able to draw blood for me. Other than the blood drawing problem, everything was great.
This is Martin Smithmyer, the CEO of Americord. Let me first thank you for your kind words regarding the quality of the service you received from the courier. We work hard to make sure that our teams make things as easy as possible. I have passed along your comments to the courier team and they are very thankful of your feedback.
Americord’s 3-in-1 Collection Kit provides all the tools for physicians and nurses to perform a complete collection, including the maternal blood draw. We are sorry that you experienced difficulty with the collection process while at the hospital.
Americord continues to work with physicians and other industry professionals on the benefits to collecting stem cells for future use and common practices associated with our services. We do not currently aid in the process, but appreciate your feedback and will work towards a smoother series of processes for performing the maternal health draw and cord blood collection.
Thank you for taking the time to provide this valuable feedback.

I did it for the first one, and usually whatever I have for the first one is for the sibling, so I decided to go ahead and do my second child as well for the older sibling to be protected. Ultimately we wanted our babies to have an option if they have an illness. And if we found out that it’s anything that’s blood-borne type of illness then it’s the sibling’s blood that can help. We banked our first daughter’s so we wanted to bank our second baby’s as well. So if it’s something that comes to that, we hope that it could help. A friend of mine recommended Americord to us. The cord blood specialist was friendly and knowledgeable. When we decided very late to do it for our second child, the specialist was really good at getting the kit to us. It was good before and after collecting the blood however, I had a bit of trouble afterwards with the followup. I got an email saying that the maternal blood was not a viable sample, and then they were going to send me another kit. They said they did but I never got it and nobody ever followed up on it. I’m assuming right now that that is not necessary, so I just let it be because I was busy.
This is Martin Smithmyer, the CEO of Americord. Firstly, I’d like to thank you for your kind word and valuable feedback. We work hard to make sure that our cord blood specialists and customer service representatives make things as easy as possible for expectant families.
I am, however, sorry and disappointed that you experienced difficulty with the viability of your maternal blood sample. This can happen when a blood sample is collected upon arrival at the hospital and labor continues for an extended period of time and then transit time to the lab. The sample is tested upon arrival at our lab for viability. If the sample is deemed to be not viable for testing, we do send a second kit within 7 days. This would allow you to collect a new blood sample at your next doctor’s appointment. That kit is sent to and from via FedEx overnight for expedited delivery on both ends. If you don not receive your maternal blood draw kit soon, please reach out to a client service associate and we can take care of it right away.
Once again thank you for your feedback. We seek to offer excellent customer service in every interaction with our clients!Sincerely,

Americord was the first company I called and the lady who I spoke to was so helpful and wasn’t pushy. I was undecided then but she answered my questions, gave me some additional information and let me get off the phone. I found out that I needed to have a C-section earlier than my due date. So I called Wednesday and I was due to have the C-section on Monday. She was so helpful. I had tons of questions and she answered all of them. And whenever I was confused by that information she clarified it for me. I told her that I had to talk to my husband and I’d give her a call back. She took my credit card number then, that way we could just call and if we wanted it, everything was there.
I called Friday and told her yes and we had the package the next day. So it was real nice. My doctor said she doesn’t usually do the Americord ones so she had to read the direction to make sure she’s got everything right. And she said that everything was thought out wonderfully. Even after everything was banked, there was a question that they had regarding the history that I had filled out. They had called me and they were really understanding with that. So I had to call them back with more information. I would recommend Americord.

It wasn’t as clearly communicated as I would have liked when our credit card was charged and what the next steps were when they received the blood and that everything was okay. Dear Maria,
This is Martin Smithmyer, the CEO of Americord. I am sorry that you were dissatisfied with the service that you received; we strive to provide five star customer service from the moment you consider banking stem cells all the way through to the time that you might access them. Clearly, we did not live up to our own high standards in this case. I have looked into your situation and would be happy to discuss why only two products were banked. Out of respect for your privacy, I cannot do so in this response but I would encourage you to call me at (888) 652-5631 and I can provide you with a full explanation.
As for the failure to spell your daughter's name correctly, that is completely unacceptable and I have spoken with my customer service team to make sure it is rectified. The baby's name is input into our computer system from a handwritten form that is completed at the time of birth and human error can occur during the transcription. I have emphasized to my team that errors in the child's name, while they occur for the most innocent of reasons, can appear to be particularly insensitive. In light of your comments, my team are now implementing a procedure where additional checks on spellings of names are made before certificates of storage are issued.
Thank you for banking with Americord.

She explained very well to me so that I understood exactly how their process worked and that made all the difference. The courier who picked up the collection kit seemed very confused so the whole process became a little cumbersome. He didn't know where the hospital was and he kept calling all the time. It was really annoying when you're postpartum. But I'm sure it worked out because they sent the confirmation email and let me know what was collected and how much they got out of it. We researched for the cord banks and found that there were more options with Americord. When we compared it with other banks, the difference was they extracted twice the number. One thing that we had a little bit of problem was when our baby was born, they were really late in picking up the package. It was in the evening and we had talked to them about that beforehand and they had assured us that someone would come and pick it up in the evening, but no one showed up. So we had to follow up a couple of times as it was a deadline. Eventually, they did send someone but it was after a lot of calls. We were dealing with so many other things, and it would have been really good if someone would have taken care of it without us following up four times.
We made some changes before the collection, and they were very quick in doing that. Since I had registered, I would get quick response and emails with the follow-up. So that was really good. When I had a question and called them, they were really nice and explained to me the detail. They took care of it. That's what stood out for me. The representatives were really good and they always talk in a nice manner. Overall, I’m really confident and hopeful that the decision that I took is good.
Hi Priyanka,
This is Martin Smithmyer, the CEO of Americord. Let me first thank you for your kind words regarding the quality of the service you received prior to the collection. We work hard to make sure that our cord blood specialists and customer service representatives make things as easy as possible because we understand that having a baby is a stressful time and we want to do whatever we can to ease the burden. I have passed along your comments to the cord blood specialists and they are very appreciative of your feedback.
I am, however, sorry and disappointed that the pickup service did not rise to the same level of excellence. As a general matter, there is a window of about forty-eight hours within which the cord blood collection kit has to arrive at our laboratory. Nonetheless, we strive to pick up the kit as soon as possible after birth both to maximize the amount of time we have to transport the kit and also to make sure that our customers have one less thing to worry about when they are supposed to be enjoying the precious first moments with their newborn. Our procedure also anticipates that parents will only have to make one call to arrange the pick up at which point an estimate of when the pickup will occur is given. The fact that this procedure failed in your case is entirely unacceptable to me. Our courier is actually a third party with whom we contract to ensure that we can provide service nationwide. I have communicated with them regarding the importance of providing accurate estimates to parents as to when kits will be collected and to update parents if those estimates turn out to be inaccurate. It should never be necessary for a parent to make more than one telephone call to us; if there are any changes to estimates, the burden is on us to communicate that to our customers, not the other way around. Again, I sincerely apologize and I hope that I have assured you that we are working to make sure that such problems do not occur again. If you would like to discuss this matter further, please do not hesitate to contact me at (888) 652-5631.
Thank you for choosing to bank with Americord.

Dear Sruth,
This is Martin Smithmyer, the CEO of Americord. Thank you very much for your kind words and I am thrilled to hear that you would recommend us to your friends and family. Unlike other cord blood banks, which pay doctors to recommend their services, at Americord we believe that we can win customers and their trust in the ethical, honest way: by providing the best product, the best service, and the best price. Recommendations and referrals from existing customers just goes to prove that our straightforward, transparent approach is working. Also, please note that we have a new referral program that gives customers who refer new clients to us with a gift card and gives the new customer a discount! I very much hope that you can take advantage of this new opportunity.
I am, however, sorry that there were problems with the courier. We contract with a third party to provide our courier services so that we can provide our products nationwide. Nonetheless, because they are our vendor, I take full responsibility for any problems that you experienced with them. I am a little unsure precisely what the problem you experienced was. If you could contact me at (888) 652-5631 and provide me with more details, I will instruct my client services department to launch an investigation to make sure that the difficulties you experienced are not repeated. Also, it is worth noting that, since you had your baby, we have actually changed the courier with which we work. We did so because, in part, we are committed at Americord to using only the very best possible third party contractors as part of our overarching commitment to providing the very best possible service from the moment you begin considering cord blood banking, through the collection process, the stem cell extraction process, and for the remaining twenty years that we store those cells. I apologize again that we failed you in this respect but I assure you that, after we speak, I will personally do my best to remedy the problem going forward.
Thank you for choosing to bank with Americord.

I have a son with autism and there's ongoing research on attempts to use the umbilical cord to remove or to ease out autism issues with the kids. So, we decided to bank our baby's cord blood because it's a hope against hope, and I'm just hoping this could help my son. We went with Americord because of the cheapness of the service and the availability of the kit on short notice. When we went to the hospital, I didn't know that they will have the kit available. Americord was the only one that was providing it right away. Other providers were taking 48 hours to deliver the kit.
We had a fairly good experience with Americord. They provided us with the kit right away with all the necessary documents and requirements, and the handling was good, too. I delivered the kit to Americord because, as per the hospital's rules, the kit needs to be delivered by the person requiring the service, and it was fine.
The only problem I have with them right now is that they haven't provided me with the certificate yet, which is quite a worry to me, and I have followed up with them twice this month. The baby was delivered in the second week of September. There was some delay from my side, too, since there was some document that needed to be signed by my wife, which I provided to them after a month. So, by the end of October, everything was sorted out. But now it's the start of December and I haven't received the certificate from them yet, and they've been charging me for the past three or four months now. Nevertheless, despite the delay, I would still recommend them, due to the availability of the kit and the fast delivery option without charging extra money for it. Overall, it was nice, easy, convenient, and cost-effective with Americord.

Americord gave me a discount for single pay and there was no monthly or annual charge. They also seemed to be the more reliable one when I looked up cord blood banks. However, when I first talked to them to get information, it was a very large sum of money to pay upfront. After that, I felt like they were calling almost every couple of days to see if I had decided, and I was getting annoyed. I finally told them that I would call when I was ready to go. When we finally made the decision to do that, they asked for a credit card number to verify funds. Then I asked them if I could change the card number for the charge when the cord blood was actually done, and they said yes.
When our baby was born, the cord tissue and cord blood were taken and everything was fine. Although iit's a very large amount of money, so I had wanted to talk to somebody about a payment plan. But then all of a sudden, the credit card that I had given them was charged when I didn't want that card charged. I called and talked to somebody with Americord who was very nice and sweet, saying he can "delete it off this", but I said no. I ended up calling my other credit card, where I wanted it put on. They gave me a different deal, so we ended up paying it off and I got charged a $40 transfer fee.
I also got an email that said it's been paid to my card. It was two days after the baby was born and we were still in the hospital so we got a lot of stuff going on. It would've been nice to be told that my card was going to be charged at the time. If somebody wanted to change their card, or if that card has been compromised for any reason, the charge would have gone haywire and Americord would have gotten rid of the cord blood. There should be an email that says the card is going to be charged this much on this date, and that they should be contacted within 48 hours if I need to make any changes.
The other thing was that there was such a time-sensitive thing. We had to call Americord within an hour of the baby being born. I understand that, but it was funny because I had my husband call since he had more access to a phone and I wasn’t about to get on the phone. He got a hold of them and we had to go through the whole thing. I set up the account so it was under my name, so he was asking me questions when it probably would have been easier for me to call. But this was easily done and we got it all set up, and the lady who came and picked it up was real nice.
There were also two vials of my blood taken, which was fine. But the doctor said it seemed more complicated than the other packages, which means that other packages that they’d taken care of were not as thorough as Americord. It seemed like there was a lot of stuff that my doctor and the nurses had to do to get everything in. They’ve never had a package that asked for the mother’s blood to be taken, but as long as it’s done right and the lady definitely got enough cells and cord tissues, we’re set, and I’m totally happy with that.
Dear Hayden
This is Martin Smithmyer, the CEO of Americord. First, let me thank you for taking the time to provide such detailed and thoughtful feedback. We take our customer's thoughts, praise, and, most importantly, criticisms, very seriously and we work hard to find ways to incorporate our customer's comments into our ongoing efforts to perfect our systems and products. To that end, let me address each of your points in turn and I apologize in advance that this means my response will be rather lengthy.
First, I apologize that you felt we followed up with you too often. Our cord blood specialists are passionate about the service that we offer and also ensuring that people are fully informed about the benefits of cord blood banking, even if they ultimately decide to work with another company. Sometimes, when a customer's due date is fast approaching, our specialists reach out more frequently to ensure that there is enough time to get a collection kit to the customer in advance of the birth. In this instance, however, it sounds like we went way too far. I have spoken with the cord blood specialist with whom you dealt and counseled them regarding the need to balance the desire to help a customer with the need to respect the fact that cord blood banking is an important decision that customers rightly need time to consider.
Second, I am also sorry regarding the problems you experienced with paying for the product. II understand completely that cord blood banking can be expensive. At Americord, we strive to make it as affordable as possible in two ways: first, unlike other cord blood bank companies, we do not charge an annual storage fee. The amount you pay covers twenty years of storage and there are no hidden fees. Transparency and honesty is very important to us. Second, we offer a twenty-four month payment plan that allows our clients to spread the cost over a two year period with only a small financing charge. In your case, however, it seems that we misunderstood how you wanted to pay and did not explain our payment policy to you properly. What we should have told you is that customers elect at the time of enrollment if they want to pay in one lump sum or over twenty-four months. We also take a credit card number, but we do not charge it until approximately three days after the baby is born and we know that the stem cells are suitable for storage. At anytime up until the charge is made, customers can change the card number or how they wish to pay. It seems that we believed that you wanted to pay in one lump sum and proceeded on that basis when we charged your card. I am sorry if that is not what you wanted. I am, however, reassured that we did offer to reverse the charge for you but I understand that you did not want to do that. I would like, however, to offer to reimburse you for the $40 transfer fee you incurred when you transferred the amount to your preferred credit card. If you contact me at 888) 652-5631 I can arrange for that to happen.
Third, relatedly, I am sorry that we did not fully explain when your credit card would be charged. I understand how upsetting it must have been to see a charge that you did not want or expect, particularly when you should have been enjoying your time with your newborn. I have spoken with my cord blood specialists and reiterated to them the importance of explaining our payment policy. I have also instructed my client services department to investigate the possibility of sending emails to parents either shortly before or just after birth reminding them of the payment option they have selected and how payment will be charged. Rest assured, however, that we would not have discarded your cord blood had there been a problem with the credit card. We do not charge until the stem cells are frozen at which point we do not discard cells except in very limited situations, such as where there has been an extended history of non-payment after repeated attempts to recover sums owed. We certainly would not discard cells jus because a credit card was declined. Our commitment to our customers and our knowledge that the stem cells have the potential to treat numerous serious diseases means that we would think long and hard before ever simply discarding them.
Fourth, I'm sorry that you felt that the pickup arrangement process was unduly burdensome. I completely agree that the moments after birth are precious, stressful, and exciting all at the same time and the last thing you want to do is deal with bureaucracy. We do strive to make things simple but there is some information that we are required to obtain in order to get the stem cells collected and processed. If your husband's name was not included on the account for some reason we would have to get the information from you for privacy reasons. In this case, however, it seems that we were too heavy handed and I'm sorry that we caused you stress at such a special time. I have counseled my client services department about the importance of being sensitive and balance the need to obtain information with respect for the pressures on new parents.
Finally, I am happy and disappointed about the doctors feedback regarding our kit. On the one hand, I am glad that the doctor found it to be comprehensive because we have worked to make sure that the kit comes complete with everything that the doctor might possibly require to get the cord blood collection done properly and in a manner that ensures that the maximum number of stem cells can be collected. That is a core part of Cord Blood 2.0 and I would much rather make the kit a little more complicated so long as it gets the best possible result for our clients. Other companies might want to make life easy for doctors in the belief that it will encourage the doctor to recommend their products but, at Americord, we believe that the interests of parents and babies come first. That being said, we are currently revising our kit and I have passed along your feedback to the team responsible for that redesign so that they can take into account your comments, particularly regarding the number of items that the doctors had to include. One thing that does surprise me, however, is the medical staff's surprise that your blood had to be taken. This is actually a regulatory requirement to ensure that there are no infectious diseases that might prevent the stem cells from being used in the future. Even if that were not the case, it is our philosophy at Americord that customers should be aware right at the start of any limitations that there might be on the use of stem cells in the future so that they can make a properly informed decision about whether to proceed with cord blood banking and the associated cost; we think it is much better for people to know as soon as possible if there are any problems rather than charging them for storing something that might otherwise be unusable. This is a critical part of our commitment to ensuring that we put our customers and their health first. I appreciate, therefore, your understanding in having your blood drawn.
Thank you once again for your feedback and thank you for choosing to bank with Americord.

My god-sister uses Americord and recommended it to me. The representatives from the company explained everything, but I wasn't happy about how the hospital where I delivered my baby, didn't know how to save the placenta and keep it fresh, and so we couldn't get the placenta delivered on time. It had to be shipped within 24 hours, but the hospital could not release the placenta within a certain period of time. They couldn't use the placenta, and I was really looking forward to saving it, as well as my cord blood. It was supposed to help me in the future if I ever need it, but it went to waste. Also, Americord never informed me that there might be other hospitals that do not know, or wouldn't be able to release the placenta. If they had informed me, I would have made sure that I wouldn't go to certain hospitals to give birth.
Dear Theresa:
This is Martin Smithmyer, CEO of Americord. I very much appreciate your feedback and I'm sorry to hear that you had this experience with your hospital. It is our aim at Americord to help parents to bank as much of their cord blood, cord tissue, and placenta tissue as possible. Unfortunately, some hospitals still have out-of-date policies that make it difficult for parents to have their wishes fulfilled and it is often impossible for us to know in advance which hospitals they are. Our advocacy group here at Americord is working hard to educate policy makers, healthcare institutions, and health care professionals about the important uses and research involving stem cells and why it is critical that they partner with us and parents.
In light of your feedback, I have asked our staff at Americord to conduct a review of state law governing placenta tissue and we will, in the next few weeks, make available on our website materials that prospective parents can share with their hospitals and health care providers to make clear the benefits of placenta banking and also the rules that permit parents to take their placentas with them from the hospital. While I appreciate that this will not solve the problem in your case, I hope that it will help future parents avoid the difficulties that you experienced.
Congratulations to you and your family on your new addition. If you have any further need for help or would like to discuss this more, please feel free to contact us and mention this response.

I did some research on the technology and we decided to bank our baby's cord blood. The lady at Americord was really helpful. I compared their prices to other ones and Americord's were good. The courier came right away to pick up the kit. Everything was easy, painless and good.

Americord didn't charge a banking fee. It was only one time for up to 18 years. I'm very happy with them. We have a history of POL in our family so we wanted to bank our baby's cord blood just in case. I called a week before my due date and they got the kit to me in time. They're very fast. Also, their courier was very prompt in picking up the kit. In addition, I had a very good experience with the blood cord specialist.

Although I don't have any family history of anything or any concern, banking my baby's cord blood might be a good gift for my baby. Compared to other companies, Americord's price is reasonable. The specialist collected the cord blood. However, the courier who picked up the kit didn't come on the same day, but the next day, and I was concerned that the blood has been spoiled.

I received an email with a coupon for Americord from WhatToExpect. I decided to bank my baby’s cord blood for medical reasons and I wanted to have some type of insurance for the long-term. The person who answered my call was amazing and really nice. I liked that it was a one-time payment for the whole thing, including the 18-year storage. And it was easy. The only thing is that when we called to have it picked up at the hospital, it took a while for them to get there. We had to call again because it was almost past the two-hour mark and we were worried that it might affect in some way. But other than, it was great.

We have diabetes and ALS that run in our family. And right now with research and technology moving forward, I felt like it's a good thing to have Americord for our future. My mother-in-law purchased it for us as a gift. It's something I definitely wanna have for my child and for our family. We're very satisfied and we love it. It was quick, easy, and a great experience overall. I would definitely recommend it.

My doctor had a few list of companies with my first child, so I went online and did some research. I ended up choosing Americord because it's cheaper, and I read good reviews about them. So when I had my second child, I also used them. I like that they have the discount for the sibling. Because I wasn't sure if we're gonna go for the same company with our second child, the discount helped us decide. Everything went well when I dealt with their rep. And the carrier came in very fast to pick up the kit. Overall, I'd recommend them.
Hi Melada,

I'm paranoid about all these crazy things that could go wrong, so I did a little bit of research on the different things that are being done with cord blood these days. There are really astounding things that can be treated using that and I'm hoping that we continue to do amazing things with it. Americord was less expensive compared to other blood banks and I liked the fact that I could do the whole 20 years instead of having to pay something every single year. I waited until the last moment to pull the trigger on it. It was really easy to sign up and to set up. I was really pleased with the whole process and it was really fast too. It was also great with the rep.
They were able to ship it to me and I got it the next day or maybe one day later, so it's good. My husband took the kit down to a different area of the hospital to drop it off. Once it was given to the staff at the hospital, I didn't have to think another thing of it. Scheduling the pickup was painless, too, and they came the next morning. It was one of the things that you buy and you hope you never have to use. It was a good experience, that's why I've recommended Americord.

My bank, OBGYN, was talking about different options for blood cords. The only reason that Americord caught my attention was that they are collecting not only blood cords, but also amniotic tissue. There are three different specimen that they pick up but there is not too much use besides the blood cord itself. But I thought that in the future, scientist may find a need. I personally believe that the stem cells are the only solution in so many medical problems in the very close future. I really wanted to have mine banked for any upcoming use. The person that we dealt with over the phone was an old lady, but she was so sweet, very understanding, and knowledgeable.
We didn't have so much done with Americord. We just received the kit and gave it to the doctor who collected the samples, then Americord's staff came and picked it up. That's the whole experience we have with them. I like Americord. I hope there is never ever a need medically to pull them out for treatment on my children. Until that happens, I cannot tell how organized and excellent Americord is. But just for the collection part so far, I think it was good. Nothing extra special, but I couldn't expect anything more or less than what I saw.

We thought it would be best to bank our baby's cord blood as an extra insurance policy because she's an IVS baby and it's possible that whenever we’ll have any other children we have only one or even an embryo left. We went with Americord because it had better customer service and price than other companies. I also felt more comfortable with the person that I talked to at Americord. She was extremely helpful in answering my questions and made herself very available to me if I had any additional ones. There was a company that was cheaper, but the person on the phone was not very engaged and they didn’t seem to care.
Americord's courier came the next day and my husband just met them downstairs at the hospital. I was happy with the discount coupons. There was an app that I used to track my pregnancies and because of that I was able to have a $300 discount. That was a great deal, and I'm very appreciative of that. Americord has met my expectations and I'd recommend it to anyone who’s going to have a child.

I don’t like the idea of uncertainties, so if banking my baby's cord blood could potentially save his life, it didn’t make sense for me to pass up on it. It gives me peace of mind. Every person that I’ve spoken to was so helpful and kind that I didn’t feel pressured at any point into having to choose them. I felt a sense of comfort and that I was genuinely cared about. When I spoke to a representative I felt I got more information and the pricing was much better than any other banking options. The cord blood specialist was very informative and answered my questions at any time. I emailed him on a Sunday, it was five o'clock and I did not expect a response at all, but he called me back within five minutes.
Our whole experience was very professional. Everything went very smoothly. We contacted them as soon as we had the baby and the courier service came right away. My husband dealt with them because I was breastfeeding at the time, but they came right to our room at the hospital and they were quick. They came and collected the content. When I was doing my research, I found that Americord was more affordable and they store the cord blood longer than some of the other banks that I was looking at. I wanted to offer the cord blood to my little girls in case they'd need it for anything. Since there was so much benefit, I took advantage of banking it. I talked to my husband and we decided to go ahead and move forward with it. Their rep was great and it was very easy working with them. Everything that she described was exactly what I experienced. The packages came in the mail very quickly and I also received follow-up emails in case I got rushed to the hospital and had forgotten about it.
They definitely made sure I had the package. Everything was labeled correctly. The hospital didn’t have any issues with getting all the material together. Americord came and picked up everything at the hospital. They even contacted me to let me know the stats of my two baby girls. Everyone I have encountered was very nice and they gave me good information. Our overall experience was great and everybody has been very helpful in making the process very seamless and easy, especially during that time when there’s a lot of things going on in regards to having children.

Hi Darcy.
This is Martin Smithmyer, CEO of Americord. I'm sorry to hear that you had this experience. It is our aim to provide the absolute best client service and so we take this feedback very seriously. In reviewing your feedback, we noticed that your baby was born very close to the 6 pm cut-off time to make the last flight to the lab for the day. In these instances, we typically schedule the courier pick-up for the next available flight, which can be the next day at times. The other option would be to pick up the kit right away and hold it at the airport, but we feel that it is better to have the parents hold onto it in this case. I would like to also reassure you that our collection kits are designed to safely store stem cells for up to 72 hours and that your newborn’s stem cells were thoroughly tested and safely processed and stored without any incident.
We sincerely thank you for your review and as a result of your feedback, our customer service team will now review courier scheduling with parents as part of our new client onboarding process.
We also completely understand that every new parent has a preferred contact method and try to use it whenever possible. As you can imagine, many parents prefer to not be bothered with phone calls soon after the birth, but I can completely see how this would also be preferred. We typically reach out by both phone and email to give parents the option of responding at their convenience, but will review our processes on this as well.
Congratulations to you and your family on your newborn. If you have any further need for help, please feel free to contact us and reference this feedback.
Best,Martin

For future proofing in case anything should happen in the future to our first child or any other children we may have, we decided to bank our baby’s cord blood. We wanted the optionality of having the blood there to help assist in any procedures or different medical aspects that may help solve any issues. Americord has a better overall value price-wise with the included 20 years of cord blood banking. Also, they were able to store more blood than the other banks since their storage bags and mechanisms allow a larger volume. Additionally, their reps were great to work with. She was very friendly and knowledgeable. She gave me good examples of what could be done with the cord blood and the tissue. My husband helped me pick up the kit. I went with Americord mainly for the placenta banking since I can't find any other place that does that. Also, their ratings and reviews online compared to the others were way beyond in comparison. The cord blood rep answered any questions that I had. He gave me a number or email if I needed to contact back about any information I might want to ask about later.
I used the bank for our fourth child. It's our last. I wanted to do it with all of my kids and I work in the medical field. I deal with ultrasound and I know how important it is to have something like that if you can have access to it. There are so many diseases that it's already helping and so many diseases that have the potential of being cured by it in the years to come. It's worth making the extra money to have it because 20 years down the road I'm sure there’ll be a lot more things that it can help with. I loved it. Additionally, the nurse staff at the hospital had never seen or use that one before and she loved how efficient they were. She complimented it. The only thing is that I haven’t heard back about any information about what was collected, but other than that, everything has been great.
