    Some of the companies hassle you a little bit, but Americord didn’t hassle me too much. Working with their rep was great. They were very nice, easy to work with and very straightforward. They called and talked to me about everything. Then everything was sent in the mail, and it was very easy to read and my dad just knew how to do it. The courier came when he said he was gonna come, and it was simple. Americord was recommended to me by a friend and using it has high value. It's good to have the stem cells in case I might need it.

    I've used Americord before for my twins. They did a pretty good job. A lot of it was to do the with the storage fee. Storage fee is included versus other companies, you pay a lifetime yearly storage fee. With my most recent experience I called and emailed their customer service, and then they put me in touch with a rep. And the representative was in New York. She called and listed the options available, including the cost. She said she could give a discount if we decided to pay upfront, meaning the whole fee versus a payment plan. We emailed back and forth. She wasn't too pushy, but she called me about once every 10 days to check in if I need any more information and if I have made a decision between placenta cord blood and umbilical cord, because I can do combinations.

    It was very plainly laid out what the cost options were. And then I decided on going with cord blood and umbilical cord tissue after I talked to my doctor about it. They sent me the kit and it didn't cost me anything. I just held on to it. They did take a deposit, but the deposit was refundable if I went to a delivery, and they couldn't harvest anything. She also said that if they made a mistake, like if their courier couldn't get the blood to the bank in time, and there was no cells, then it was also refundable. So I didn't really see a lot of risks.

    I gave her my credit card for the deposit, and that was also gonna be used for the payment as well. They ran the deposit and it was $230. I gave birth. They harvested the blood on the kit, then they called the number on it. When we called the number, they put me in touch with the courier service. But then, they had trouble looking up both twins' information. A few days before my scheduled C-section, I filled out everything online, registering my child and they also had trouble looking that information up to match it and trying to figure out Twin A versus Twin B. But that all got worked out. It just took a couple of hours over the phone. I just told them what the issues were, and they figured it out behind the scenes.

    The courier, which was an independent contractor came. He took the samples and drove it straight to LAX. He gave me a receipt of taking it. And then 10 days later, I got an email saying that there were viable cells, and that they would be charging my card the full amount, which was like 10,700. After I paid, they gave me an official certificate of storage for the amount of cells in the blood. They did a pretty good job. Except maybe having the courier's information might be good because I didn't know he was coming. But they did the follow-up phone calls, which was great, to see how everything went in the experience.

    I investigated Americord online and then I kept getting emails. I like that the fee wasn’t billed yearly. After the initial, it was paid all upfront. However, I’ve gotten a lot of phone calls without much customer service. They’ve called a lot after the fact just to get feedback even though they know that I have an infant. If I had to do it over again, I wouldn’t use Americord. The person that came to fix this up didn’t have forms and had to come back, and was there for hours. Overall, the process was not great.

    I’m a huge believer in stem cell research and the help that it could possibly provide my little one in the future if they end up with any kind of disease.     We did not go with the cord blood storage with my first kid. With this second one and my last one too, we thought this is the last chance that we can do it. If it is not done this time, then we cannot do it anytime. I did a research online and Americord was a little less expensive compared to other providers.     I liked the upfront price of Americord for the 20 years and not having to worry about making an annual payment. When I called since I had questions about getting in the online system, the rep was able to get me my discount for being a return client.     Americord seemed to be the most popular option through our doctor and we went off the recommendation. We saw it as an insurance policy for the future. Our doctor warned us that a lot of it is science that isn’t quite here yet. It's potential science and it’s a chance we would be taking that may or may not come to fruition. But the potential benefit seemed to outweigh the cost for us and that was really why we ended up going to do it. But we had waited until the last minute to decide that we were actually gonna do it. It was two weeks before we went to the hospital and at that point, I was a little nervous because I had heard or read somewhere that we would need to go ahead and get paperwork and stuff done 8 to 10 weeks in advance.

    But the experience was wonderful. Everything went very smoothly. We got the box the day after I purchased it online and that was great because I ended up being induced earlier than our due date. I was glad it was able to still be done. The courier was great too. He showed up not long after we had made the call and he did a great job. It seemed to work nicely. Americord has definitely met my expectations so far. It’s one of those things that's like an investment. You put the money in and don’t think about it until you have to use it. And as long as it’s working for me, I’m fine. We were pleased with the way everything went and I definitely had good things to say to friends of ours.

    I wanted to bank my baby’s cord blood and we did it with my older son. My husband has used the cord for his hips and we thought that if he ever does it again, we already have what we needed so we are definitely relieved. We did not know very much about it when we had it with our first bank and it was expensive for us. But I was impressed with Americord’s customer service which is big for me. Also, I liked the way they priced their plans and it made more sense.

    When the courier picked up the kit, my mom took care all of it. However, there was a bit of miscommunication. When I had the consultation, they told me that the doctor had to sign but my doctor did not have to sign it and they would not take it. But when they were here the next time, they told me that it was okay if the doctor did not sign and as long as the everything was filled out, then they will get it shipped off.     We have really good technology now, but in the future, we may have better technology to work with cells. I decided that banking our baby's cord blood was a good idea. I did some research and read that Americord had longer periods they would be able to keep the blood. The courier who came to the hospital picked up the kit and I didn’t have to worry about anything. I received a call some time ago and I was that I can get all the papers online, but I wish to receive all the papers by mail, that I could physically store. It’d be better for me. All in all, Americord met my expectations and I would recommend them. If there’s a treatment that becomes available in the future, then changing cells is a good option to have.

    I like that Americord does not charge before the stem cells are collected. I also compared with a couple of other companies and I thought Americord is better. They are cost-efficient. My experience with the cord blood specialist was also very clear and concise. The answers were very much relevant to my questions and they cleared all my doubts. It was excellent. On the other hand, people in the hospital and even the doctor who delivered my baby did not know about Americord. He was surprised to know the name and about the collection kit that we had. So Americord should do some advertisement or promotions to make themselves familiar. That aside, the courier was prompt and overall, I'm very much happy with the experience. I hope the cord blood won't be used but it's there in case my son needs it in the future.

    I work in healthcare and I know the benefits of stem cells. Also, one of my best friends from my school passed away from leukemia because she needed a bone marrow transplant and she couldn't find a match. So I did a lot of research going to stem cells. If she would have had her blood banked when we were little, then she may not have been in that situation. The woman we dealt with at Americord communicated well and I liked the fact that we could pay all upfront and not pay an annual fee. I delivered early in the morning and my husband called for the kit to be picked up. Then the hospital front desk called us and told us that the courier was there to pick it up so my husband took it out. The only thing Americord can improve improve on is the communication after the retrieval and the processing of the blood.

    Clients are spending a lot of money and then Americord would just come and send you an email that they processed it and they charged your card. They do not communicate what the volume was and how many stem cells they were able to get. I know you can go on the website and find that. But in a busy time after having a baby, it would be nice for them to communicate that and give you an idea if that's a good amount or if it is on the low end but is still a match should you ever need to use it. But overall, it was a good experience and I was happy with it. Americord has met my expectations and it's nice that we have the cord blood there should we need it.

It’s something that can save them or help them in the future if they need to use it. I used Americord for my first child two years ago. If there were some follow-up calls with me, and if my phone hung up on him, he called me back, so I appreciate his help.     We have some history of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in the family, and there is research that shows that stem cells can be used to treat some forms of cancer.

    Banking my baby's cord blood is kind of an insurance policy. I went with Americord for the amount of stem cells that they are able to collect and their payment structure. The cord blood specialists were prompt in providing feedback via questions, and they were very thorough with their follow up. Everything from the collections and the processing went as expected. So far, we feel happy with the services we have received.

    As far as researching other companies, Americord seems to have some of the advanced technology when it comes to the collection of the stem cells so they are able to collect more which is a benefit if that is what you are ultimately paying to do and you are extremely easy to work with. They have made the process pretty simple. I also had to call the hospital with questions and they were able to get all the information they needed.     We have a family history of certain diseases that the cord blood can help with. And we originally decided to do cord blood banking because my cousin had done it with his baby back in Europe.     When I first called Americord, I had been doing some research online and I wasn't sure if it was something that I wanted to do, but they didn't pressure me to choose their service.     I’m a pediatric PT and I was taking precautions, so I decided to bank my baby’s cord blood. The guy from Americord contacted me and I went into labor. It was a great experience with the specialist but the courier had no idea what they were doing or what they were taking, and neither did I since it was my husband who dealt with them. I had to have the nurse answer the questions that I had, then she took it and it made it to its destination.     My husband did the research and he was looking at Americord and another company when I went into premature labor. My husband called them since it was the one that he remembered. They immediately had someone come to the hospital with the box. We’re in Chicago which is a big city so that helped. People in smaller places probably don’t have that type of access.     I’m 44 and a half years old. I’m working in a hospital so I did a lot of research. Cord blood banking is not 100% useful for my baby in the future, but it’s just in case. I only have one child. I have one opportunity, so I don’t want to lose it. My OB doctor recommended two other banks to me. I asked both the guys there and they were crude. Then I searched online and I got Americord. I put my personal information to Michael who called and emailed me. That guy was really nice and professional. He did a great job. After my OB doctor did a C-section on me, the anesthesia was too strong for me so my friend I have with me contacted the organization Americord and then they came. She told me they were nice.

    If possible, it would be very helpful if Americord had Chinese in the printer. I’m a foreigner and even though I work in the medical field, a lot of medical terminologies are still strange to me.     In case there will be any issues down the road, my baby's cord blood can be used for multiple ailments and it can also be used for my other children. I like Americord's payment options better, and they offered a very good discount through my employer. I also have ViaCord for my other child and after weighing the pros and cons of both, Americord seemed like a better option. Also, from what I was able to find, Americord would banked more cord blood. So, the cord blood would be usable longer. As my understanding, the amount of cord blood ViaCord is able to bank can only be used on up to somebody who’s 60 pounds. My daughter is almost 45 pounds. Americord goes up to 180 pounds. So, I have a better chance of using that for my children than what I’d be able to use the ViaCord for.     In my 20 week ultrasound, we found out that my daughter has multiple congenital heart defects. We used Americord to bank our child's cord blood in the hopes that throughout her lifetime there's something that's usable to help her health condition. My husband did a lot of the setup and unfortunately, I still think it's really expensive. It was a hard purchase and hard decision. It was still painful but it was okay. The process was simple. It didn't require much work on our part and they were the best price as far as cost of the value that we can find.

    The only thing that caught us off guard is in all the paperwork. We were under the impression that there would be a heads up to let us know if the sample taken was a good sample and viable before they charged our credit card. And then everything was said and done and we just found out that the credit card's been charged. So from our perspective, there was a little piece of communication that was missing.     The cord blood technology is improving and I wanted to make sure of the future. I don't want to miss if there are a little bit of chances of curing anything with the cord blood because I can't get it back.     We decided to bank our baby's cord blood because we didn't want to take any chances if something goes bad because he's a high-risk baby. We chose Americord because they had placenta tissue storage which others did not have. The cord specialists helped us a lot in choosing and explained everything. But the courier couldn't find us properly, so we had to guide them to reach us to the hospital room.

    Nowhere on Americord's kit it was it mentioned how much cord blood should be collected. When the doctors collected the blood and we sent it, Americord replied saying the amount of blood collected was less than the standard. And this is a one-time thing. We can't go back and collect it. Even the doctors were not aware of that. They had given us the parent sheet, doctor's sheet and nurse's sheet but it wasn’t mentioned anywhere. And we had to call them and they said that there was no use of storing a lesser amount. They said something like only a particular amount of blood is stored and something can be done on that. So everything was initially good but later on we had to face all the problems because that was the time when I should have attended on my baby. Instead of that, I had to answer the call from Americord why they were not storing and the policies and everything. That was not what I was supposed to do on that whole day.

And a guy came and picked up what was needed four hours later. And it was easy to sign and process everything.     My husband is in the medical field and he told me that banking our baby's cord blood was a very good thing to do. We wanted to do it with our first child but we couldn't afford it back then. I forgot about it when we had our second child and then for our third child, we were in Okinawa and they didn't have that option over there.     Americord offer varied services and had additional services, placenta tissue collection, and something else which the others did not. And the combined price was good. The cord blood specialist explained the details well enough. Americord took care of everything. The courier came on time as much as he could. We had around six to eight inches of snow at that time, and he still managed to come in and do the pickup. So, I can’t complain about him being late by 40 minutes especially with having tough driving conditions. The crew sent all the packages.

    Banking my baby's cord blood is some kind of an insurance and peace of mind. A friend of mine had used Americord and he recommended it. And also, the prices were competitive and I got a referral kind of discount. Somebody came and picked up the samples, and the transaction was straightforward. They called to let me know that they were coming and then they just took it from me. They didn't explain anything about what they're going to do with it. Americord should follow up with people once everything is banked with them. There should be an update if the child's tissue is safe and secure, or if there's anything else that they're doing or needed. An annual or semi-annual update on what's happening might be good.     There are 90+ diseases that can be cured with stem cells now. And that’s something we wanted to make sure we could give to our daughter so we had her cord blood banked. I had seen online reviews for Americord and found them to be professional. And when I was reading, it seemed like their technology was able to harvest twice as much of the stem cells. So it looked like they were the better option. I reached out to them to inquire about pricing and I had a great customer service experience. They were able to give me a very aggressive price on the phone, followed by payment options and all fell into place.

    Americord seemed like they were very legit, and they had everything I wanted. They were also able to harvest my wife's stem cells from the placenta, which was really impressive. So now both my wife and my daughter have stem cells, which nobody else that I've seen has that ability. It was the right decision. Plus, they were personable. Jazz, my sales rep, was phenomenal the entire time and very easy to get a hold of.

    When we had our daughter, I was living in North West Arkansas for work, and they were able to have the courier out there about eight hours after she was born. She was born at 10 at night, and they picked the cord blood up and put it on a flight. They sent it straight to Boston where they removed everything. So, it's pretty interesting. Americord did a great job and everything seemed to work really well. Overall, the process itself was good, and should we ever need to use the stem cells, I’d have access to them very expeditiously.

    Banking the baby‘s cord blood is as good as an insurance policy. From what I understand, it’s rare for something like that to come up but better to have it just in case. We used Americord for our first son in 2011 so we used them again with our more recent son. Everything went smoothly. Coordinating the pick-up was straightforward. I have three kids and we were only able to bank two of the three. Apparently, the second child's sample wasn’t large enough. They notified me that it was an insufficient sample and that they were sorry they couldn’t store it.     I was referred to Americord by a friend after choosing a couple of companies. We called all of them and Americord was the first to ship out the kit. Also, they offered the latest storage methods at that time and had the placenta in addition to the cord. They told us we can ship the kit back if we didn’t use it and there was a return tag. I asked if I can have a second kit sent to the hospital should I need it and they said it would be fine too. And just use the return tag for whatever we didn't use. They made it really convenient for us. So, if I was in a jam and I didn’t have the kit because they gave it to us early, they said that they would ship it within 24 hours to the hospital. They have really good service. Their reps were also very knowledgeable and were willing to escort us to an actual tech if we wanted to know more about it. They had good monthly plan options as well that were more affordable.

    So, they stored both items. They had a better extraction method and their storage lifetime, 25 years, was longer than the others. And, they had a higher insurance if the cord blood was damaged, if my daughter or family needed it for medical use. Americord works really well with the hospitals too. They coordinated, so it wasn’t very frustrating while a lot was going on. And whenever the nurse had a question how to store, they answered the call within minutes. There was a carrier issue, as they wanted to make sure where it was going, but they were able to get that sorted out very quickly with their dispatch team. It's really time sensitive so after extraction, they have a window of a couple of hours to properly store it and then 24 hours to deliver it. So, they got the courier to go straight to our room and pick up the kit to be stored in a refrigerated room, and it all went well.

    We wanted to preserve the cord as well as the placenta blood. We have read a lot of research with stem cell research and we wanted an option that if our child ever needs it, that it's available to him and eventually if it never gets used, then it gets donated to science, which would help somebody. So that was the biggest reason we did it. My husband and I did a research too on the different things that were out there, including the cost. Americord was one of the few that did both for a reasonable price, whereas other blood banks are charging more money to do the same services. However, we weren’t happy with their service. They have been informed ahead of time and confirmed to us through email that they were aware we were wanting to save both. We received the kit that they sent us ahead of time. The doctor said everything was fine, the preserved items were just there.

    Apparently, there was a disconnect between the Americord and the courier because the courier wasn't aware that he's doing both the placenta and the cord preservation. When preserving the placenta, you’re in a time crunch but he said that he couldn't make it that day and that he was somewhere else. It was a horrible experience. They messed up and they didn’t do anything about it. The courier came and we have no idea if it was preserved correctly and we have no way of finding out but Americord still charged us for that. Eventually what they ended up doing was that the hospital saved it until the next day.

    When I chose Americord over another bank, it had to do with the pricing. I thought it was really fair, and while it wasn't the least expensive, I was impressed with their service. And so I inquired when I was pregnant and I filled out a form online indicating that I was interested in getting one-on-one information. Then a representative reached out to me and I didn't feel like it was a sales call. It feels like if there's anything I might need, they're right there to answer any questions. I was concerned about what happens if the sample that we got aren't viable. I don't want to spend all my money not knowing if it's going to be able to be doable. That was my main question and they gave me peace of mind knowing that everything is refundable if they're not able to get what they need.

    And I was really impressed that they reached out. I was new to the whole process and I don't know what it entails and the people at Americord were helpful, which I appreciated. Lastly, in a lot of companies out there, the pricing is very steep, especially for the storage. The initial price may not be that much for the storage whereas Americord was very straightforward - storage was included. It made it really easy to know what was included and what we were going to get. It's because, for us, the decision to bank my baby's cord blood rests on the budget and weighing the cost against the possibility of needing to use it. My husband deals a lot with the stock market and finances, and so he deals with risks a lot. It was a form of insurance for us until he was able to weigh that risk and compare it to the cost.

    So far, everything was great. The only thing that I was unsure about was after they sent me a follow-up kit because I had to get my maternal blood sample redrawn. And for whatever reason, I wasn't sure what happened to it. But they made it very easy for me and I was very happy that we found them. I did some research and they say that in the future, autism can be cured by using the cord blood. I don't know if it's true or not, but I'm going to save it because I know more and more children are diagnosed with autism in America.     I would recommend Americord. We banked our baby's blood cord mainly because my husband was adopted. Americord tests what you send before they freeze it to make sure that it's good, unlike other providers which freezes whatever you send them and start charging you right away. You don't know if it's collected properly or if there is enough of it to actually make a difference in the future. The rep from Americord was knowledgeable about the competition and pointed out a few things about other providers. The guy who picked up the kit was also quick. The doctors and nurses, however, don't like it. I wish that there's another person from Americord to do it at the hospital, or if the nurses and doctors will get some incentive to do it. They all do it at the end of the day, but it's a pain for them. They're overwhelmed with everything going on.

    We are happy to have an option to take some measure of protection for our daughter against serious illnesses that she might end up having and decided to bank her cord blood. Americord's price made us pick them over other cord blood banks and it met our expectations. My husband coordinated everything with them but there was a little bit of confusion with their courier and I think he was a third party. He seems to not fully understand the protocol when came to the hospital to pick the cord blood up. Otherwise, everybody that we worked with directly through Americord seemed very good and helpful. Our experience was seamless and it seems worth our time and money if we run into the circumstances where it would be beneficial for us.

    Americord offered us to pay them a lump sum for all of the 20 years and not have to pay a fee. Banking the baby's cord blood is a preventive precaution. It may not be super useful today, but I don't know what's going to come up after three or five years. People are going to find out newer ways to use this and I would not want to be in a place where there is treatment available but I just don’t have the resource.

    The specialist who did the extraction was from the hospital and the medical courier who picked up the samples was there within four hours of the delivery, which was in the middle of the night. So that was good. However, while the kit was easy, they could have educated me on what to do as far as it goes because we found out after opening the kit that we needed to take a sample before the delivery and it was already too late. I would suggest that they give instructions and not just hand the kit.

    Also, one of the things that I’m not quite satisfied with the Americord experience is their follow up. They collected the samples but I don’t know what happened after. I don’t know how it is tracked. They'll store the cord, and it will be good for all the 20 years it gets stored. But there’s a lot of processes that happens before it goes into storage. I would like to be involved in every single part of that process, but I was not. I haven’t called them and see what is the status but I would expect something like this to be done by Americord. This can definitely be improved if Americord actually followed-up. Still, I’m satisfied with the way it was and I would recommend them.

    We started researching about cord blood banking before we even got pregnant so we knew the benefits and the possibilities of having this tool could open in the future. If something goes wrong with the baby, we wanted to be safe and the benefits in the future are tremendous. The cost at Americord was better, plus the reviews and the experience other people have put online were much different. When we signed up, they were really on the ball and they followed up with us. The cord specialist was very attentive. He gave us our space when we wanted to look at other companies. He was also always available to answer questions all throughout the day that we got our kit and he was great throughout the way.

    The paperwork was easy but the initial kit was a little bit confusing as to what was to be sent back and what we would have to do with that. I wish I would have had more details but I guess the first time was overwhelming. The doctor was also able to figure it out so it worked out in the end. We came in with very limited expectations, not knowing what cord blood banking was. The experience has been great so far. Everything is moving smoothly. We haven't had to use anything, we haven't had to contact the company. And hopefully we never have to but if we do, I'm sure everything will work out fine. So I love them. I'll recommend them to anybody who asks me.

    Americord offered more than other cord banks and also seemed the most appealing out of all of them. Their cord blood specialist was wonderful, very helpful and got everything resolved very quickly.     I had my last child’s cord blood banked since there could be health benefits for the child, for the siblings, and for myself. Also, since it was already our last child and my other children were not banked. I did some research and found that Americord was the most reasonable. It was a one-time fee for 18 years and they would bank all three pieces, the placenta, baby's cord, and tissue. And, the kit would be shipped international for free going back to them. Even more, the person I spoke with was really informative, knowledgeable, positive, accommodating, and has timely response. But the pick up for the kit did not go as planned. The carrier came to the hospital and he needed a sticker or label. The label was missing from the original box and even though Americord made it right, it took a lot longer than anticipated. Other than that, I had a great experience with them.

    I liked the attention that Americord gave me. They were very kind, really down to earth and very approachable. I liked the accessibility to pay in part as well. It also helped me too.     I spoke to lengths with different companies and a lot of them pulled the strings and tried to make emotional blackmail so I was a bit put off. But with Americord, the gentleman who I dealt with wasn't pushy. He left me to make up my mind and let me come back to him rather than kept calling me, and he was also knowledgeable. My wife was really keen to bank our baby's cord blood but I was ignorant about it and didn't want to be heavily sold to it as well, so Americord was a nice balance.     Among the nationally recognized cord blood banks, Americord gave me the best offer. We also researched online and the online reviews were good for them. We got a very good response when we called to inquire about their services. There was also a discount if we made a full payment and it came with a 20-year prepaid plan. The specialists were really good. Whoever provided the on-call service was really prompt. We contacted a couple of days in advance, but we got the kit quickly and we were able to turn it over. The information inside the kit was also very detailed.

    After the cord blood was delivered, we had a couple of questions and we were interacting with one of the customer service representatives. She was very responsive. She gave us an online portal where we can look at our records, but it didn't have all the details. It didn't specifically say until what date was it valid. I knew it was 20 years, but I didn't know the exact date. I expected the portal to give me a complete information, but the information was more on scientific terms. It was a little bit vague and I expected the information to be in layman's term.

    After the cord blood reaches you and the touch points after that, those are the places where the improvement is required. The 20-year term is a very long time. I don't have to be searching for the contract 10 years down the line. If there's an online portal which gives me all the details, that would be very helpful. There should also be a referral benefit available for both the parties or even one party. Nevertheless, the experience with Americord was good and the expectations were met. I would suggest it.

    I spoke with someone from Americord and they had a good plan with good payment options. Plus, it was a simple and easy process. The rep I talked to was great. She was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Eight months ago, when my daughter was born, we didn't want the placenta but we wanted the cord blood.     Americord was offering a $1,000 off for the Black Friday sale. The hard part at the beginning was I did an inquiry through the website. My husband and I shared an email address and I have another email address. The one that we chose to go with wasn't synced up between the person who was trying to sell me from the other email address. I was getting contacted by multiple people so that was kind of frustrating, but that was of my own doing. Once we got things moving though, I had no problems whatsoever. We were sitting on the fence about the cost for a while and I decided to pull the trigger. I have multiple sclerosis so purchasing this was pretty important to me. I might pass it to my son, and there might be some sort of miracle cure out there the time he or I would potentially need it.

    The whole process was pretty seamless and it was completely easy to get done. We gave them a call first thing in the morning because they delivered the kit at about midnight, and somebody was there pretty quick. The kit and everything that we got was very easy to use. The nursing staff who was trying to put everything together after I delivered had some questions, but they figured it out. I remember looking over at them at the counter where they were reading through all the instructions where they had some questions. I tried to prep them and we told them that we have the kit and everything. And they were, "Oh, yeah. We do this all the time." But maybe they have never experienced this one before. It would help if there's something that Americord can provide the hospitals before a patient even comes in.

    For a potential new mom, it seems like a financial barrier and hassle upfront. But using Americord is extremely valuable and they've been transparent with the process. However, I'm not real sure about how the process would work if I would need to use Americord. It would be really nice if I had something that I could just file away in our fire safe. That would be a guarantee of a thing that we could just go to that direct place if we ever needed it because I kind of imagine that if we ever need it, there's going to be some stress around needing that. Also, I felt like I was told different stories when I was going after this $1,000 off thing. It didn't feel like one person knew what was going on from another and that just felt a little disjointed. There should be some way for them to consolidate.

    My experience with Americord was mostly positive. We had done it with our first baby and we figured that if there was a possibility that it’d be used, we might as well do it. And we could afford it. I liked how Americord offered the pay upfront option rather than the monthly option. However, we ended up being charged by our doctor to collect it. When I spoke to Americord, they said that they would reimburse that, and that was a bit of a process. I had to follow up probably three times in order for them to do it. So that was the main issue.     Americord had the best information about the cord blood banking, stem cell banking for baby as well as stem cell banking for mom. That provides a better exact match to mom. They also had a great online presence and how they did their information than all of the other companies, so I felt comforted and confident. When I signed up, I got a message from them congratulating me. As I got closer to the due date, I received positive encouragement from them. They also sent me a message to keep the kit at room temperature. I was pregnant throughout the winter and if they hadn’t sent that additional text message, we were going to keep the kit in the car, which would have made the whole kit void.

    However, the labels were confusing and tough to understand. I wanted to bank part of my placenta, my cord blood and the cord tissue, as well as to encapsulate part of my placenta to make pills for myself. When my husband and my OB were going through the kit and a couple of other assistants were helping, they ended up sending the cord tissue still attached to the placenta. They didn’t know that it needed to be cut from the placenta, and we were really disappointed that the cord tissue had gone to the bin discarded.

    My OB-Gyn was very protective and she cut my placenta into two pieces. This is not something that we had checked with Americord previously, but they had no issue with it when we sent it in. We were nervous and we contacted them and they were supportive of our decision to do that. We found out that some of the other places wouldn’t have accepted the placenta if it wasn’t whole. We also had questions about how many cells they got or how much blood and things like that and when we called them, they were really positive. Also, the guy who picked up the kit was sweet.

    We're the kind of people who probably should get into banking our baby's cord blood, just in case. We learned about it and we called the folks but we were too close to the actual pregnancy and we couldn’t find any public banks in the area that would accept us on such short notice. I had chosen out of all the possible banks and I couldn’t work with them. That’s why we went with a private bank and chose Americord.

    We have a mixed race child and it would be hard to find a Polish-Kenyan match so we decided to bank his cord blood. We went with Americord because of the placental and tissue preservation for the actual cord. The week before we decided to pull the trigger on it, there was a study that was published that talked about cloning an entire embryo from two sources. The sources were the placenta and actual cord tissue. So, between those two structures, you have all the building blocks you need to make an entire embryo.

    I was very impressed with the specialist. Also, the service was seamless and worked as advertised. Whatever hiccups we did have, they were solvable problems in a very reasonable timeframe. The courier showed up and took the kit. It's been fantastic with Americord. My wife and I are both registered nurses working in oncology so we understand a bit of science.     We thought to keep our baby’s cord blood because nowadays anything can happen to anyone at any time. I told the Americord representative that I’ll give the cord tissue and cord blood and the doctor tagged it and put it inside the kit. When the person came I gave the kit to that person so I believe that both of cord tissue and blood are inside. When I called them I was told that they only found cord blood and not cord tissue. At that point it has been a week so even if I talked to my doctor it would be no help. But their cost is good compared to others. The cord blood specialist is very supportive and whenever I called he has helped me and I will give Americord a good recommendation. We're in the initial stage now and hopefully it will work for us if needed.

    This was our second child and we did not bank the cord blood for the first one so we thought of going ahead with it. I asked some of my friends and my doctor which companies are good and they suggested some names and then among them, Americord was the one who gave us a good price to go with.     I have diabetes so I wanted to bank my baby's cord blood in case we needed it. We went with Americord since they were reviewed well on the internet. All they had to do was make sure that we were able to get everything to them and we did that. Their reps were easy to work with. They were there the day of the birth and were very responsive.     I've used Americord twice for my children. What they do is as soon as you call them from the hospital that the stem cells have been extracted they immediately show up to come and pick it up. And then they call you back to tell you if it was successful and if they have enough to store. My biggest concern is if they have the proper safeguards so that they can prevent any unexpected loss of the stem cells. My eldest is three and a half so it's still a new experience and I worry about putting two different children at the same bank. But the actual experience is great and when more people start doing it maybe the prices will come down a little bit. I'm satisfied and as far as the service or the product I haven't had any issues.

    Banking the baby's cord blood was a service that was offered to us when my sister and I were born. It would be helpful as there are some people in my family that had some of the ailments that cord blood could have helped them with and if anything comes up in the future, I'd like to be ready for it. When I did my research, I found that Americord had all I was looking for in a cord blood bank in terms of pricing, how long the cord blood could be held, and how much the cord blood could be used.     I know that stem cell research is getting far and that it has many benefits especially if my baby ends up with any kind of cancer, I wanted him to have a chance on it. Americord is working on other conditions as well so there’s a potential treatment in the future and I want to give my child that opportunity. Americord said that if the cord blood wasn’t proper and they couldn’t retrieve it, they weren’t going to charge me.     I chose Americord with my first daughter so I wanted to go ahead and keep everything the same. Their website was very informative and I liked what I read. They had good pricing and when I called, I received excellent customer service. Their specialist Jazz was great and amazing as well. She went through different options when I called trying to figure out if we could afford it at the time. I was able to think about it and she followed up with me.     I was really not happy with the courier who was sent to pick up the cord blood. He showed up covered in dirt like he had been working construction for the day. They didn’t look like a courier service. They were filthy and I almost didn’t even give it to them because I was so uncomfortable thinking that they're who I’ve trusted with something so precious and then that's how they showed up. That was awful. My husband ended up on the phone with Americord and taking pictures of it, and it was really sketchy. I also wish we would have gotten a package in the mail afterwards to make the process feel complete rather than just an email.

    Very few banks have a cord tissue saving along with the blood and Americord is one of them. There’s a couple more banks that we know of but Americord is more affordable so we went with them. This is our first baby and we aren’t sure exactly what the cord blood is for and though we are spending a few thousand dollars up front, the specialist explained everything in detail why and what can be done with it. He’s knowledgeable and followed up with us on a timely fashion.

    Americord sent the kit and right after the baby was born, the doctor’s office collected the tissue and the blood cord then sent it over. It was a self-explanatory kit that the nurse and the physician were able to use. Once Americord got it, they called and told us that they wouldn’t be able to harvest enough cells from the cord blood and the tissue. We got another call telling us they were able to get enough cells from the cord tissue and the cord blood. They said that it got stored and we did the certificate of the storage and got a copy. Overall, it was an easy process and everything went smooth.

    Americord's track record for having a higher cell count in the cord blood was attractive. It's also interesting that they store blood tissue and placenta, too. In addition, the guy that started the company was one of the principals that started the ViaCord and their technology is now 10 years old. He wanted to start a new entity that has all the latest and greatest so, we went with them to store my son's blood. He's now six and it gives us a peace of mind knowing that his blood is stored out there. Everything was packed by my doctor so, there were no issues with anything being spoiled and the courier came the next morning.

    The Americord rep that I dealt with was very informative, laid out all the facts and not pushy. It was easy to determine the financial side of it too. It was more expensive going into it, but we don’t have the recurring annual fee for banking than I had with Cord Blood Registry - their competitor. With the other cord blood companies – ViaCord, Cord Blood Registry, LifeCell, CryoLife – they require that you pay an annual fee for however long you'd store the blood. For my CBR, it's 50 bucks a year. With Americord, it's a one-time fee of $6,000 for all three items, but you're covered for the next 26 years.

    They're only going out for 26 years, but when that time comes, there will be so many companies getting into the market that'll be much more competitive but the benefits have yet to catch up to the cost. The Americord folks also feel that once the benefits are realized, the insurance companies are going to be stepping up and covering the expense for the storage fees because the benefits are going to minimize their long term exposure to cost for serious illnesses. Americord has totally met my expectations. I'm confident that they’ll be around and I'd recommend them.

    We had done our research but hadn't decided on if we would store but we reached out the day before we were supposed to check in to have our little girl and Americord overnighted us the collection package along with everything we needed and clear instructions. We decided to go ahead and do it so we went over everything with the nurse when we arrived in the hospital and thankfully they had done it before so it was a pretty easy process. After our girl was born the doctor and nurses collected everything and we packaged it up and called to have it picked up. Shortly after a courier picked everything up and it was off to be stored.

    Our OB did charge us for the collection however Americord gave us back $200 of that which was almost the whole cost! Americord's process was very easy to follow and we didn't have any issues which was nice because the day was really all about mom and baby. We are very happy with how everything went and although we hope to never need the samples it's very reassuring to know that they are there and available should a need arise!

    We’ve been hearing about the new thing that once we save cord blood, it’ll change a lot of things in the future.     I liked Americord's reputation and that they take double the amount of the blood. We also got recommendations for them from other people.     We decided to take our baby's cord blood as were concerned about the risk of leukemia in the family since my wife's sister had leukemia. Americord had more collection options available, besides the standard umbilical cord blood, than other companies. They also had a good pricing option and were able to deliver the kit very fast because our son was born a month early. We didn’t have a kit then but they were able to get it to us within an hour. The woman who I talked to on the phone was very good and helpful and was able to give us a good discount and payment terms. She sent the collection kit in an Uber from New York City to make it in time, so the experience was really good.

    One thing Americord can improve on would be having a user portal. I pay the bill but there’s nothing else after that to confirm everything was collected. I was a high-risk patient and our doctor recommended that I bank my baby's cord blood. It was due to my family history and me having Crohn's disease.     Americord was one of the cheaper ones when I signed up. They gave me $500 off and I like the fact that I can never pay a yearly storage fee. My oldest son is on the autism spectrum and Americord had done recent autism research. Because of some of the positive results they have gotten, I went with the cord tissue too instead of just the cord blood. I don’t worry about my youngest son now, but you just never know.     The research in cord blood and the possibilities in the future of using it for different things that our son might encounter are so vast. We felt we would lose the opportunity to try it. One only gets one chance to do it and our son can't do it when he's 14 so we felt that was a worthy insurance policy. There are a lot of banks out there. We looked into those other banks and Americord was the one that said, "If you pay us once, we'll never charge you again." We like that because we didn't want to be billed every year, though it also makes it a little more expensive than some of the other banks. But we're happy so far. The process was also easy. The cord blood specialist was very respectful and she answered all our questions.

    We are in the medical field and we think that our baby's cord blood might be helpful in the future for certain diseases. The pickup was quick and the courier was right on time. And then we tried to reach out to see if there is anybody from Americord to come and take blood for us even if it's not part of the treatment because the nurse at the hospital refused to do that. But Americord didn't have anybody to come out. My husband is a physician so he was able to draw blood for me. Other than the blood drawing problem, everything was great.

    Ultimately we wanted our babies to have an option if they have an illness. And if we found out that it’s anything that’s blood-borne type of illness then it’s the sibling’s blood that can help. We banked our first daughter’s so we wanted to bank our second baby’s as well. So if it’s something that comes to that, we hope that it could help. A friend of mine recommended Americord to us. The cord blood specialist was friendly and knowledgeable. When we decided very late to do it for our second child, the specialist was really good at getting the kit to us. It was good before and after collecting the blood however, I had a bit of trouble afterwards with the followup. I got an email saying that the maternal blood was not a viable sample, and then they were going to send me another kit. They said they did but I never got it and nobody ever followed up on it. I’m assuming right now that that is not necessary, so I just let it be because I was busy.

    I am, however, sorry and disappointed that you experienced difficulty with the viability of your maternal blood sample. This can happen when a blood sample is collected upon arrival at the hospital and labor continues for an extended period of time and then transit time to the lab. The sample is tested upon arrival at our lab for viability. If the sample is deemed to be not viable for testing, we do send a second kit within 7 days. This would allow you to collect a new blood sample at your next doctor’s appointment. That kit is sent to and from via FedEx overnight for expedited delivery on both ends. If you don not receive your maternal blood draw kit soon, please reach out to a client service associate and we can take care of it right away.

    Americord was the first company I called and the lady who I spoke to was so helpful and wasn’t pushy. I was undecided then but she answered my questions, gave me some additional information and let me get off the phone. I found out that I needed to have a C-section earlier than my due date. So I called Wednesday and I was due to have the C-section on Monday. She was so helpful. I had tons of questions and she answered all of them. And whenever I was confused by that information she clarified it for me. I told her that I had to talk to my husband and I’d give her a call back. She took my credit card number then, that way we could just call and if we wanted it, everything was there.

    I called Friday and told her yes and we had the package the next day. So it was real nice. My doctor said she doesn’t usually do the Americord ones so she had to read the direction to make sure she’s got everything right. And she said that everything was thought out wonderfully. Even after everything was banked, there was a question that they had regarding the history that I had filled out. They had called me and they were really understanding with that.     The Americord rep we've spoken to made our experience easy, really straightforward and we only spoke a couple of times. They answered all our questions and we felt confident moving forward. We're comfortable knowing that that blood is in storage if we need it and that we have the access to it. The only slightly negative experience I had during the process was the follow-up. It wasn’t as clearly communicated as I would have liked when our credit card was charged and what the next steps were when they received the blood and that everything was okay.     My husband and I read as many reviews as we could and decided on Americord based on those we read online. At the very beginning, they had called several times and kept wanting information then when they sent the agreement, it wasn't full agreement and there was a misspelling on the name. We had to send it back then they resent it. There were a few snags and that prolonged the process making me feel tired dealing with it. But I was also very pertinent at that time and I was very happy with them, overall. They sent the kit in a timely fashion. As far as from that end, everything went smooth.     Americord was featured on my Ovia app and I decided to use them because it’s good to have some insurance in life. Their specialist was superb. I had my baby at 6:00 at night and I followed their instructions. My sister called and they said when they’d be coming so we kept the kit with us at our bedside.
