What is AlphaCord?
AlphaCord is a cord blood banking company that has processed and stored over 30,000 samples in nearly two decades in business. The company provides cord blood, cord tissue and placental tissue collection, processing and storage services. AlphaCord uses a NextGen collection bag that allows hospital staff to see in real time the amount of blood being collected, which the company says allows collection of up to 250 milliliters.
AlphaCord offers an $85,000 quality guarantee toward finding an alternative source of matching stem cells if your cord blood stem cells are stored with the company and fail to engraft. The company says it has a 100% success rate of providing viable cells for infusion and engraftment. AlphaCord is registered with the FDA and has worked with over 28,000 families. How does AlphaCord work?
You can choose to store cord blood only; cord tissue and cord blood; or cord blood, cord tissue and placental tissue with AlphaCord. You can also opt either to pay for storage annually or for 20 years of storage upfront. The company recommends deciding at least 30 days before your expected due date so you can coordinate with your health care provider (though it may be able to accommodate last-minute orders).
To order a kit, go online or call. AlphaCord ships you a collection kit with instructions to take with you to the hospital. Shortly after birth, your health care provider will collect the blood and tissue and put them in the kit, which you send to AlphaCord’s lab overnight.
At the AlphaCord lab the sample is tested for viability. You’ll be notified by email within 72 hours that the samples have been processed, and you’ll receive a storage certificate with a unique ID number and processing results in about six to eight weeks.
In the event your family needs to access the cells for medical treatment, you can call AlphaCord, and it will send you and the treating physician the release forms. AlphaCord doesn’t charge to send your baby’s stem cells to an accredited medical treatment facility in the continental U.S.
AlphaCord packages
AlphaCord offers three options for customers: cord blood storage; cord blood and cord tissue storage; and cord blood, cord tissue and placental tissue storage.
Each package includes a collection kit that’s shipped to you and back to the lab and all processing and testing. When signing up, you can choose to pay for storage (starting the second year) yearly or purchase 20 years of storage upfront. AlphaCord also includes its $85,000 guarantee and access to support 24/7.
AlphaCord pricing
With AlphaCord, you pay a fee for collection, processing and one year of storage, then an annual storage fee. You can choose to pay upfront and save or pay monthly. Alternatively, you can prepay for 20 years of storage. You also have the choice of upgrading to a five-chamber storage bag (from two chambers) for $59. Cord blood only
The regular price is $995, which includes the first year of storage. Annual storage costs $150 per year. If you choose to pay for 20 years of storage upfront, the cost is $2,495 total.

The regular price with one year of storage is $1,495. After the first year, annual storage costs $250 per year. The 20-year package costs $3,695.
Cord blood, cord tissue and placental tissue
The regular price with a year of storage is $1,995, with a $350 annual storage fee after the first year. The 20-year option costs $5,995.

If you decide to cancel at least 15 days before your due date, you can send an unopened kit back for a full refund (shipping not included). Otherwise, you need to fill out an account cancellation form, have it notarized, send it in and pay a $150 termination fee.

We used Alphacord to store our son’s stem cells, and the entire process was easy and seamless. Worst experience with a company. I was one of those moms that thought I would use AlphaCord for some reason and wanted to protect my children. For 18 years I paid money into this for NOThing! I would have been better starting an account for my child. When I tried to cancel it I was stonewalled hit with why I can’t cancel, that I owe a years' worth of money, that I need to notarize this or that. This company is a scam! The chances that you will use the cord blood are so low but they prey on that fear. They will screw you. Do not start with this or at the end of it you will have nothing to show. They take and own your kids' blood. Do not give them money! There are many class action lawsuits against these people and the reviews on their website are FAKE.

Invested in stem cell storage almost 20 years ago and at the time AlphaCord seemed just fine. I just learnt today that they will not process a cancellation without the 60 day notification, which is fine, I should have reviewed the contract. BUT in order to terminate the contract will have to notarize a term form AND pay $150 for termination. Literally no communication from them apart from billing. I'd choose differently.

In my opinion Alpha Cord's advertising preys on expectant mother's worst fears. Modern medicine suggests that sample sizes collected from umbilical cord are ineffective in treatment past toddlerhood.

Shipped in a controlled temperature cooler at 39 degrees. Very secure, locked and safe. Very satisfied with this method of shipment. Extreme care taken with packing. Cooler very safe and secure and double packed into an inner compartment. Extreme care taken with the storage and the transportation. Sales rep accompanied the shipment via car. Extremely valuable method of packing and shipment. Double compartment was air and water tight. Extremely professional and thorough. Very satisfied with this method. The process is very intense, so it helped to feel supported by most of the people I spoke with. There is genuine care and concern for their clients, and it shows. It really makes the entire process much easier, and I think the positive atmosphere improved my odds. I know they take care of any samples and they use only one courier service, so there is no need to worry about mishandling or samples getting lost in transit because of a transfer from one delivery service or courier to another. It is safe. The value of the service they provide is priceless. It saves us from so many worries in the future and the service could also be more helpful than we know. New research may lead to many more benefits of core blood banking. They have the lowest prices of the known providers of core blood banking, and the level of service exceeds that of any competitors in my opinion. I am so thankful to have found them.

They hold it for my sister and I just organized it for her while she was out of commission after her second kid. They seem to be the most helpful. They are holding cord blood for my sister just in case something ever goes wrong and they are holding it beautifully and give update occasionally for peace of mind. If you are looking for a relatively inexpensive way to store cord blood, I would recommend these guys because the service is well value for the pricing. Solid payment options, which make it very easy to handle things. It was a life save in regards to this because my sister really wanted to do this but was on a pretty tight budget.
