Cord blood banking is like an insurance policy for my kids. I don't wanna ever think that anything bad is gonna happen, but I have peace of mind now that in case something does, I've done everything I can to be prepared. A lot of the process was through email, and all the questions I had were answered. The kit was good too. I gave it to the doctors at the hospital, then they took everything from there. The only thing that I had an issue with was I referred somebody to Cord Blood Registry, so I got the free year for the second year, but I kept getting calls that I owed money. However, the last time I spoke to somebody, they resolved that.

Cord Blood Registry gives you a little incentive if you refer someone. I had my sister do it too with them. However, I thought my contract was 150, but I noticed that the fee had been going up slightly. If it goes up however they feel for the course of however long my son is alive and I'm paying on it, that's not fair because then I'm already stuck. I called and asked them why this year it was 190. When I told them that I didn't like that, they went ahead and lowered it back to the 150. They had said it would stay at the 150. But we'll deal with it year by year.

Cord Blood Registry’s service is good. I gave them a call and it went very well. They sent me a packet through FedEx and I read through it. It had everything that you needed in the box. I purchased what I needed for the collection and then, I brought that entire package to my nurse midwife. The return FedEx information was in that box. So, you just collect the blood, and then you stick it in that return package and it goes straight back to them.
I wanted to bank the cord blood with my first child but the hospital refused. Being a young mom, I just gave up. The second time, I shopped around and made sure it was okay. If the hospital was not gonna let me collect the cord blood, I was not gonna give birth there. My nurse midwife said she would take care of it and told me not to worry. Yet, on the day of my delivery, I showed it to the nurse staff and they said they don’t do that there. I took it back from her and said we’ll see about that. The hospitals were still not very good about it. But that was 24 years ago. Now, they're a little more open to it.
So glad you were able to have the chance to do this for your family.

I absolutely recommend CBR to others if it is something that they are interested to do as far as storing the stem cells. I like that the cord blood stem cells could possibly benefit my children or another family member in the future. I make my annual payment once a year and they've reached out when my credit card expired to upload a new card.
Yes! While your baby's newborn stem cells are a 100% match to their own stem cells, siblings, parents, and other family members have a chance at being a partial match. Yay, science!

The whole process with Cord Blood Registry does take work. It takes some organizational skills on the parents' part to remember to do it at a very emotionally stressful time, but the way that the company has it done is easy. The couple just have to make sure they keep a mental note to take the necessary steps, but I would consider it as uncomplicated. There was no problem with the courier pickup. It was easy. I called and the man came quickly and we didn't have to tell him where to find the OB ward. He knew where to go. It's an overall smooth experience. It's expensive, but the quality of service has been good.
Thanks for trusting in us and the science! We have your (and your family's) back!

I called Cord Blood Registry when the cord blood was collected for it to be picked up at delivery. The experience was good. It's easy and simple. I didn't have to do much other than have the specimen there for the driver to pick up and just call Cord Blood Registry and tell them it was there. My doctor did it all with the selection. They went through the rundown of what cord blood can do and that they would keep me informed as new technologies presented themselves. I've been updated and I get emails with different things. So, it's been a benefit

I work in the healthcare industry and I knew that cord blood was very good. It helps kids and later adults with chronic illnesses that they would need a bone marrow transfusion, in cases like that. We weighed the risk to the reward and said, “Hey, we're gonna go with this.” When I shopped around, Cord Blood Registry was comparable with everybody else. Their website was also very informative. This was right around the turn of 2000, and they had videos. The website explained everything to us, and I found that very helpful and confirmed my choice. I haven't used their website lately, but when I did, it was very good. This was about 20 years ago and technology has improved.
The hospital collected the cord blood and then the company picked it up from the hospital. I called them to make sure they received everything, and everything was going good. A couple of times when I needed to renew my subscription, I call them up and the customer service reps were usually good in doing it quickly. Usually, I just give them a credit card, and it automatically renews. Every three to five years, my credit card expires, so they let me know that there's a charge that needs to be done. I've recommended Cord Blood Registry a couple of times.
We love hearing from our families, so thanks for sharing with us, Joel. We love having you part of our CBR family.

We had the kit sent to our home and we took it with us on my day of delivery because I had a planned delivery. There's paperwork that you fill out to put back in the container, but the hospital handles everything else once you get there. Cord Blood did a follow up with my husband around 24 hours later to let us know that it had arrived at the facility.
The packet that they leave you has all the contact information so that if you wanted to contact them directly to make any arrangements. But they also send periodic emails. So, there's always a way to find them in case. With the other company that I first used, it had slipped me who they were because I don't get email updates like I do with CBR. So, they actually stayed at the forefront, but the other company didn't. We had a little issue with the first year. We are on a yearly payment and they contacted us to say that we didn't pay the bill for that year. I appreciated that. Because of their communication and customer service, I would recommend them over the other company.

Cord Blood Registry seemed a safe and cheap insurance to have. So, we did it as a preventive measure. They were the more "expensive option." But they seemed to be the most established, longest tenure that I could find. And the vision/history of the company gave me reassurance that they would be around for a long time. I spent three hours on the phone with the gentleman that I worked with. He was very pleasant to work with. It was very easy.
I understand that if there were certain conditions that could appear later in life or with birth that stem cells from cord blood could be used to treat or help, and it's not just submitted to that child. Sometimes that cord blood isn't compatible. In other words, stem cells. It was an investment for the future in case something happened. Hopefully, we never have to use it.

The process at CBR was easy. They gave us the instructions and explained how to do everything and broke it down easily. The instructions on the box helped too and the doctors were receptive. As soon as we called, everything was handled. The cost was rough initially, but it was still reasonable, which is why we did it with our baby number two. Any time I've ever called, they've been helpful. I don't get the runaround with them.

I saved my son's cord blood through Cord Blood Registry, and I had a very pleasant experience. Initially, I was worried but the process was very smooth. The courier was there, and there was nothing to worry about. It was very good. After that, I referred a couple of my friends, and they're also happy. One of them is from New York and she said, "I had a really good experience. It was no issues. They just showed up and everything was so easy." There are lots of illnesses, and I hope my son and I will never use his cord blood in the future, but it also gives us some chance for possible cures.

Rather than pay the fee to have a courier come and get it, my husband decided he would just take it down to wherever it needed to go. It was an option back then. When he went to drop it off, I went code blue and ended up in emergency surgery. I wish they made it mandatory back then that the courier get it. But our experience overall since then has been fine. Also, my daughter is turning 24 and I'd be interested to know if there's any documentation on how viable it is after that period of time.

I saw Cord Blood Registry's name a lot so I gained trustworthiness with them that way. Their reps were a little bit pushy in really wanting me to make a decision and sign up, but since it was the service I wanted to use, it wasn't too off-putting. It just felt a lot more car salesman-isque than I was anticipating, but in a truly terrible way. There was a lot of sales techniques. The price was a lot higher than I anticipated. Luckily, we got our first year of storage free because we recommended them to a friend who had a baby. Our next year will come out of our pocket, so I'm not looking forward to that bill because I do think it is a pretty expensive service. Other than that, the kit came quickly once we signed up. It got to us within a week or two in the mail. Then it got picked up from the hospital quickly as well. I had C-section and they picked it up within a couple hours right after the surgery.

I saw a lot of good things with the cord blood research. It was one of those things that I'd rather have it than not need it, than need it and not have it one day down the road. When I talked to Cord Blood Registry about it, they did a really good job explaining the different illnesses and things that they were working on in the future, which even the things that were going on during that time period. We've been banking now for almost 13 years with them. So, they went over anything and everything. They had me sold on it. With the kit, our experience was really easy. I made the phone call that it was time. The kit was delivered to us. It was very simple. They gave it to us. We were able to discuss with our doctor who delivered the baby. Two of our children are banked with Cord Blood Registry. We used a different bank for our fourth child because the rate was much higher with CBR by then. But in retrospect, I wish we had not done that. We find it easier to deal with CBR. But CBR now owns the other company and I find it frustrating that we can't converge the account. We still have to deal with the other company even though I believe it is owned by CBR. I wish I understood a little bit more about why it would be separate at this point. Other than that, I would recommend them for anyone who's interested in banking cord blood. Our experience has generally been positive. We have had rate increases but they haven't been terrible. If you can afford to do it, it is a wonderful peace of mind.

On the delivery day, there was a lot going on so the last thing I wanted to do was deal with extra headaches. But we handed the kit to the doctor and they filled it up. I then called the number and Cord Blood Registry took the kit. There's a part of me that feels like it's a scam. But I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I ended up getting a report back from them telling me they got more stem cells from the umbilical cord than they needed. So, it was a good collection.
CBR had the ability to stay in contact with me. We've moved several times throughout 19 years. We faced financial challenges and they've always seemed to work with us. They've extended a lot of time, effort and grace to work with us in challenging times as well as other times that have been fine. They also offered at the time a nice lifetime package deal that we could've taken if we had the money. Periodically through the 19 years, they've thrown that back out to people, offering them like, "From here on out, you could pay this much and you're essentially a done deal." It's worth the very minimal fee that I pay annually. I'm a huge advocate of the procedure. It would take something as extreme as I find out CBR is doing something they shouldn't with my stem cells for me to change my mind about them.

We chose CBR over other companies because of the location of their storage facility. Some of the other larger companies are in locations where there tends to be natural disaster. Also, the price was a little bit of a factor. We used them with our first daughter and again with our twins and we got a little bit of a discount having twins for the next round. And I never felt like it was salesy or pitchy or anything like that. Any of the questions we had were very easily answered by everyone.
The process was really smooth to get the collection kit and understand what to do with it. It was easy for my husband to get it handled at the hospital and they were able to do it quickly and efficiently. My daughter was born late at night and they came first thing the next morning and with the twins, they were there within a couple hours because it was during the middle of the day. In case there ever was a future disease or issue, I was told that the cord blood could be used between siblings or for that child. For the maintenance fee, it's only 150 bucks a year to store it. That's a small price to pay for a potential future benefit. The process was easy and it's a small price to pay for peace of mind.

Cord Blood Registry has been very cordial. They helped us do it. It was easy to do. They worked with us and answered our questions. It would take me a while to pay my invoices sometimes. They would send me a reminder but it's not like they would harass me. They let me know, "You forgot to pay your invoice and didn't get it paid." And I got it all paid, but they gave us time to do it.

I initially called Cord Blood Registry five years ago, and they were usually easy to talk to and easy to work with. I've also been on the website recently to make a payment, but I wound up just making it over the phone with them. It seemed easier. I wish the cost was cheaper though. Still, we were thinking about our kids' future. If they get certain illnesses, they could use the stem cells. I've recommended it in the past, but I don't think the people did it.

Cord Blood Registry is a service that not a lot of people know about unless they are referred to it or they see something in the doctor's office. They were helpful with sending the kit and telling us how things could be picked up and packed. I went with them since my sister did. We figured at least our children are related and perhaps if we need it, they could help each other. Most of my friends are past the baby time now. We're in our 40s. But when I talk to people, I definitely refer CBR. It's easy to renew yearly. And I appreciate that Cord Blood Registry sends the reminder. Because otherwise, I wouldn't remember.

I was not awake when Cord Blood Registry came to pick up the package. When I woke up, my husband said they had tried not to do what I told him so he made them wait until they got it right. I try to pay the premium that's due a month in advance. When I go to make the payment, it doesn't automatically update it. I understand 24 to 48 hours. But weeks later, it's still not updated. It gives me anxiety because I never know if they got the payment. Even this last time, it was due on a certain day and it was a week later before it showed that I had made a payment.

I've had bad experiences with other places but with them, I've not had a bad experience. They are trustworthy, reliable, and friendly. We have many diseases in our family that I wanted to break the cycle by breastfeeding, but also have that peace of mind of backup. I did a lot of research on all the companies before I did this and the government for free government storage. And by the time I got to Cord Blood Registry, I was highly impressed because nobody does all the research that they're doing. I'm sure there's more on board now, but back then there wasn't. They were the leaders of the industry. They're doing everything they can.
Matthew is always my representative. He gets my thumbs up. I like the way that he always called, made reminders way ahead of time like, "You know, this payment is about ready to be due." So, he doesn't sneak up on me. And he was always educational and formal. He expedited a few things for me. He sent me clinical data and interviews. He would always encourage different things. If I had any questions, I could always call him and I had his extension. It was easy to go.
He was the one that called me because the first OB-GYN that took my son's stem cells forgot even though I kept saying while I'm on the table during my C-section, "You gotta get the umbilical. It's right there. CBR is right there. Get it before it clots." They didn't clamp it off in time. So, they got lower than the threshold. For my daughter, they got triple the threshold.
There's one year that Cord Blood Registry paid for my storage free because I referred my friends to them. They stored their daughter's cord blood because of her Filipino bloodline and his bloodline from America. He had some bad health issues going on. So, they wanted to also do the same thing. It was supposed to be for a peace of mind.

But it was an investment. It was almost like health insurance for my whole family. I had a midwife, and I expressed that this was my want beforehand. So I got the kit. They were familiar with it. They talked to me about what would happen, and then once my daughter was born, they collected the cord blood and put it in the vials. So, at that time, my daughter was born, that was 22 years ago. Looking back now, I'm not sure I would do it again because the sample was so small that I'm not even sure it's viable. Now you can do FreSR-S to gather stem cells. But at the time, it seemed like a good decision. The reps were also very professional. But I would like to see a little bit more in terms of the quality control in terms of reports. Do they experience failures with the freezing of the specimens? I liked where Cord Blood Registry's banking facilities are located, which is in one of the lower likelihoods to be impacted by possible environmental disasters like earthquakes and tornadoes. I was also impressed with the responsiveness that I got from them. I asked a bunch of different questions and they were able to go through all of that. My initial question was about what happens if they're acquired, which oddly enough, happened six months later. The answer I received was a little bit too broad, so I had to drill down a little bit more into that question one or two times. Then I was satisfied with the answer. I also asked about what would happen in case of non-payment or the pros and cons of paying everything upfront. I also felt like their pricing was at least in line with or not too high or too low from competitors.
For the actual process, they send the kit ahead of time. Then once you deliver, there's a number that you call and they have a courier that comes to the hospital and picks up the collection. And then there's some sort of confirmation when they received it. They do an initial processing of the sample and give a confirmation that everything looks good. I remember there being a couple of confirmations that gave me some peace of mind. For my annual payment, I had a credit card that was expiring and they let me know ahead of time to change my payment method. All in all, I have recommended CBR to my friends. It was pretty easy when I initially talked to the Cord Blood Registry rep. It wasn't too strenuous of a process. The hospital itself had never really done it before, so they were a little lost with how to do everything. The instructions weren't as clear to them as possible. I had moved from Florida to New Mexico in the time that I purchased the kit and then actually gave birth. When I called the courier service for pick-up, I was very clear that I needed it picked up at the hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. But nobody told the courier and nobody communicated that. So they made the pick-up for Florida in Clearwater.
When the courier called me and said, “We're here to pick it up,” I said, “Well, you're fresh out of luck right there because you're not in the right state.” So, we had to wait. We had to call back again. It took another couple of hours before they could come to get the kit. The only thing that’s hard on me is the price. But hopefully, the peace of mind is worth it.
