Purchased a Martha Stewart patio set. The set is kept in the house. It was never exposed to the outside. Last month the glass top spontaneously shattered into a million pieces. Contacted Kmart & they were of no help at all. The patio set was expensive. I cannot afford to replace the glass, or buy a new set, so I now have a patio set that I cannot use.

My Martha Stewart glass top table spontaneously exploded after I had just set it out on my patio. It was purchased at K-mart in the mid-summer 2006. I used the table for half of last summer and now I will not be able to use it this year. K-mart said that I should contact you because they are not willing to replace or repair my top. We purchased a Martha Stewart patio set from Kmart and are very disappointed. The tables glass shattered all over the place in tiny little pieces. We have had to purchase a shop-vac and do some major cleaning of our yard where the glass sprayed. We have a toddler and dog. This was a very dangerous product flaw and these tables should have been taken off the market a long time ago!!!

Three years ago I purchased the Victoria Patio set which included the 5 chairs w/cushions,and the table w/lazy susan. Separately I purchased the umbrella. Total cost was approximately $800.00. Last summer,my husband and I were in the house preparing for a BBQ when we heard a loud noise. We went out by the in-ground pool, and the glass to the patio table was in a million pieces. The lazy susan was intact. The glass was in between the cement around the pool and to make matters worse, the glass was also in the pool. We both had to get into the pool - 9ft depth and keep diving down for the shattered glass. This took hours.

My husband and I were still finding pieces of the glass here and there even though we had spent the rest of the weekend cleaning up glass. I went to KMart to discuss the glass breaking for no apparent reason and was told there was nothing that they could do. They also stated that the set was 1 1/2 old and that the umbrella could have made the glass break if it was not in the stand correctly. I explained that the umbrella had not been in the stand at the time. I also explained that I stored my furniture every winter and even removed the cushions when it rained. I explained that I removed the umbrella from the stand after every use and do not use the umbrella if it is windy. Again I was told there is nothing they can do.

We purchased a martha stewart glass table with 6 chairs with the lazy susan. Design was nice on the table with the leaf pattern. This past winter, the glass on the table shattered for no apparent reason. Luckily, no one was hurt. Today, I went online to try to buy a replacement table and I am amazed at the number of people reporting this problem. OBVIOUSLY, this is a manufacturing problem and I am disappointed they are still selling the table. How many people have gotten injured by this problem? There must be 300 posts about this table shattering- indoors and outside, stored, etc.

I buy Martha's magazine, I thought she got a raw deal going to jail, how many of the old boy network did exactly the same thing and didn't go to jail? I thought she stood by her products and there was some quality there? Guess not. My husband and I will be looking for a new patio set and it won't be martha stewart. With a two year old, I can't have another table shattering. The $800. spent on this set, to have it used only one summer, is a rip off. Thanks Martha. I hope no one gets really hurt.

We purchased the Martha Stewart Garden Victoria collection outdoor furniture 7pcs for 428.72 on June 29, 2002. We protect the furniture each winter season, but this past year in December before Christmas our 54 inch glass table exploded in a million pieces all over our patio. Luckily our 3 year old and 14 month old were not around during the explosion. No one was home.

My complaint is that replacement glass for the table is $200. Why would a table shatter into many small pcs without cause.....unless it was defective. If the glass was defective I expect the manufacturer to warrant the product and replace the glass free of charge.

I will never purchase a Martha Stewart product again. I will spread the word. Kmart should also have some consideration to their loyal customers and offer replacement glass at no charge. This is a dangerous situation and should be sent to the CPSC, which I intend to do.

The glass in this Martha Stewart patio table, purchased at Kmart, spontaneously shattered last night. My wife and I discovered it this morning- shards of glass all over the porch floor. I understand you've received many complaints about this already (I read your article from a couple months ago), I just wanted to add to the list so this problem receives wider attention. It is absolutely absurd that Kmart and other stores continue to sell this furniture when these problems have been going on for years. This table was purchased some time in 1998, so it lasted a good while, but that doesn't excuse the negligence of the manufacturer and retailers of this product.

Shards of glass splayed across the porch floor. Luckily, no one was hurt (other than pricked by glass while cleaning up). But we did have one of our cats out on the porch when it happened, and she could have easily gotten hurt or even killed had she been sleeping under the table at the time (as she often does).

I replaced all cushions within the first 10 months of ownership and complained to the Kmart manager. His response was that this was a common problem and that he wasn't surprised at the condition at all. He gave me phone numbers to call to file complaints.

After contacting JRA Industries, I was instructed to send in photos of the damage. After about a month of waiting I was told that I was entitled to replacements if I agreed to pay the est. $170 in shipping fees. I agreed. I was then told to call back at the first of August 06 because all cushions and replacement paint were on backorder...I'm not surprised!

I called today, 8-02-06, as instructed by Percy, only to be told by Brittany that I was no longer entitled to said replacements...that I was no longer under warranty...we had already established that fact in May, which I was told was not an issue considering the rapidly deteriorating conditions and the fact that I had already absorbed total replacement costs once. I was hung up on and then after calling back told that I would have to wait for a return call from Percy. So far nothing... I read on this site about the shattering glass and now have that to worry about as well. If it shatters, I will have certain damage to my pool liner and if my children are present, they could be injured as well. I worry because I have noticed stress lines or cracks in the glass for some months now and wondered if that was warning of something getting ready to let go, so to speak.

We purchased a Martha Stewart patio set in the summer of 2004. Our purchase was a glasstop six seat patio table with umbrella. Within the first summer we came home and the glass was shattered into tiny pieces. Since there were no trees or hazards around the table we assumed the glass was not tempered properly and called Kmart. They were nice and checked to see if there was another table in stock. They gave us another table with no question. I presented some of the glass for proof.

Within the next six months I was at home and heard a huge crash and went outside. The second table had shattered into tiny pieces as the first one did. We knew that the time limited had expired and at that point the furniture was out of season and gave up trying to get another table. At this point we do not have any of the glass but do have both empty table frames. We have had other problems other than the glass on the furniture including enamel pealing to expose rust and the umbrella metal framing breaking in a way that left the umbrella un-usable. It was our intention to have a new piece of glass cut but could not due to the cost and construction of the table.

Since we could not replace the first table we decided to rebuild and tile a new table top using the existing frame. We knew this would be safter in the long run. We spent multiple hours cleaning and disposing of the million small pieces in our yard and deck from both tables. We also spent 25+ hours creating a new table top so that we would not lose the total set. This included purchasing, creating, and cleanup of the materials used on the set.

Of course we will have to replace the table, but based on what we have been reading , we won't be purchasing a Martha Stewart Patio table from K-Mart. However, we contacted K-Mart and a customer support number K-Mart gave us for Martha Stewart and they were uncooperative.

I thought that I possibly assembled it wrong & after a week of cleaning up glass on, in and under my deck I bought a replacement top. I just came across the complaints about this happening to numerous people & am convinced it was not my assembly, but a manufacturers defect in the table itself.

I did sustain minor cuts & scratches around my feet, shins & ankles and the replacement top cost me nearly $100.

In 2000 I had purchased the Martha Stewart Victoria Collection patio set at Kmart in which most of the stores in Illinois are closed now. I have had this set in my sunroom for 6 years and just last week I heard this unbelievable noise and when I looked the table had shattered in a miilion pieces. Thank goodness no kids were in there at the time but I couldn't figure out what would have caused it to shatter that way. There was nothing on the table.

I decided to go online to find a replacement top when I found your site and all of the similar complaints. I can't believe that this company that is making this product is still selling these patio sets. I've been lucky that no one has gotten seriously hurt but now I have no table and it sure seems unfair that when you purchase something you would hope that it would last. Now what?

The consequence is that I now have to go out and spend a significant amount of money to get a new table set that I am certainly not ready to do. Thank you Martha Stewart for an unbelievable product.

The finish on the metal chairs had started to peel, and I replaced the umbrella earlier this summer, but otherwise, I thought the set was in good shape. Today, 7/24/06, I came home from work and found that the glass table top had smashed into thousands of tiny pieces. The glass lazy susan part of the table was still intact, with my daughters sidewalk chalk still resting on it.

I have tiny glass particles embedded in the spaces between the wood decking on my porch, on the adjoining patio, and in the surrounding grass. Not sure how long we'll be cleaning up after this one!

Later that day while I was about to put the umbrella in the hole, the glass table top shattered into a million pieces onto my feet, cauising me to suffer multiple cuts. My wife, her cousin and myself also suffered many cuts from the sharp glass as we attemped to clean the glass from my deck. The pieces flew all over my deck which is approx 15'x30'. After using a couple of brooms and small house shovels to pick up all the pieces of glass, we found much of the glass had gotten caught between the decking materials. I had to get a butter knife to slide in between the decking and pop them up. Then when the sunlighthit my deck, I saw countless embedded slivers into the decking material which I am now afraid to let myself, wife and two children walk on without shoes. I cannot beleive all the reports I read last night going back a couple of years of not only my particular named set, the Santa Barbara, but other sets from the Martha Stewart collections such as the Cape May and Victorian.

As I explainned above my wife, her cousin and myself suffered many small cuts from the broken glass while trying to clean up. Later on at the end of the evening my wife's cousin and myself were still picking out small pieces of glass from our feet. Even now, the following morning as I sit at my desk typing this, I rub my feet, ankles and face, and I still feel small pieces of pulverized glass.

At approximately 12:30 PM, my Martha Stewart glass tabletop exploded. I and my cousin Linda from Baltimore, Maryland were sitting in the living room at my cottage at the lake, when the glass top table exploded and I saw the whole incident from the picture window. I surmised that the result was some type of molecular action. The glass top came from the center and formed like a mushroom blast from a bomb and then came down and crashed after it exploded. It did not lift like a smooth flat piece of glass on a plain. I have never seen such a sight before. The patio deck where the table sits is not directly exposed to sunlight as our deck has a roof and in no way is exposed to direct sunlight. Linda thought someone was shooting and was ready to grab my arm to hit the deck or floor. Remember she is from Baltimore!!

If someone were seated anywhere on our deck, you would have been hit by the shrapnal of flying glass. The glass even hit the picture window of our cottage. There were glass fragments all over and was very difficult to sweep up as my husband also used a shovel besides a broom. It was embedded in the cushions of the chairs in small slivers. We hosed the deck down with water and it keeps coming out of the wood. Then he proceeded to scrub it with a brush and water and of course had glass twice in his hand. there are still fragments of shatterred glass. I was shocked to find this being such a problem already in existence and yet posing such a threat and danger to people. Something NEEDS to be done!

We had purchased a Martha Stewart patio table (6 sided with a leaf pattern in it), 6 chairs and umbrells in the spring of 2001. We left the table and chairs outside all year round. It has seen very hot temperatures, snow, an inch sheet of ice on top for more than a week, high winds, etc. It has been in the same spot on our brick patio for the past 5 years and is used all the time. It held up very well.

The evening after leaving for vacation, my mother called me (who was watching over the house for us) to say that the glass had crashed straight down into thousands of pieces -- none more than an inch square but mostly the size of a tiny pea. She could not see anything that would have landed on it to break it. After returning home it is exactly as she described. There has been some rust on the mesh chairs only where the metal connecting parts are but it is not very noticeable. We have just started to clean up and it is taking awhile as some of the shards are in and in between the pavers in the patio. Hope that the shop-vac helps with this.

Thought I would check online for a replacement top or table- WOW am I ever surprised at how many problems there were with these tables. Suppose it makes me feel better knowing that we did get 5 years of use out of it compared to some others who have had their glass break very quickly. I have ridded myself of guilt for leaving it outside and uncovered through the elements for all these seasons- it doesn't seem to have mattered based on what I've read in others complaints. We have enjoyed the set. Don't think I will purchase another Martha Stewart set until the problems with these can be rectified.
