I called the Home Depot Store where we bought it and I am awaiting a response. I am not hopeful that they will do anything about it as others have said they got no help form HD. The company should do something before someone gets seriously injured. The pieces were so tiny it took an hour and a half to clean it all up with a shop vac.

Now, getting to our third year, the whole side of the table has fallen off in huge pieces and most of the clear finish on the top of the table is chipped off. This table is junk. The umbrella that we purchased with this set wouldn't stay up beginning in the second year we owned it, so we used a clamp to hold it up and lastly, the umbrella pole broke in half at the end of last summer.
I found this website completely by accident, and am now concerned with the swivel chairs we have after reading some of the other complaints. Something needs to be done about the poor quality of these products. I know I will never purchase another Hampton Bay product again.
The finish has chipped off the top of the table, huge pieces of the stone have fallen off of the table and cannot be repaired, the umbrella wouldn't stay up so we had to use a clamp to hold it up and the umbrella pole broke in half. As a result, we are forced to go out and purchase a new patio set. We are fortunate that no one was injured by any of the broken pieces of stone or by the broken umbrella. I am upset because we paid approximately $1100.00 for this set and expected it to last more than a few years.

We also purchased a patio set with a glass table top and the top shattered into a million pieces after only 2 months! I do not recall what the name of the set was, but I don't see any way to fix it so that the table is useable again except to replace the glass and that was quite expensive. I think we paid $750 for the set last year. It doesn't look like they sell the set anymore either. Very upsetting. I have 4 kids that want to eat on the deck and I have nowhere except the floor for them to eat right now.

We purchased a really nice patio set from Home Depot last Summer. And yes, it HAD a glass table top insert - for which I see by many other complaints this is a LARGE issue that I am just becoming aware. In our case the wind did happen to surprise us and we assumed (since we were in the house at the time) that the umbrella had popped it just so. As like has been described over and over by other consumers, this glass shattered in minute pieces all over the place.
After reading these other complaints we are very thankful that this event happened when it did, and not when the family was gathered with our small grand babies/toddlers all around. I certainly have a complaint regarding the fact that it seems near impossible to find a replacement for our lose of this table top, but an increased rage hoovers around the fact that even tho these products are noted to be highly dangerous they are continuing to be sold! Please! Please! Get these items off the market! The furniture is gorgeous, but at what expense? The possible loss of sight, or worse a LIFE of a child?

I purchased a 7 piece patio set called Lasserre by Hampton Bay at Home Depot a little less than two years ago. Recently my husband and I were having a barbeque on a calm, sunny day and had gone into the house to eat our meal when we heard a loud crash. We went out to our back patio to find that the top to our smoked-glass patio table had shattered into thousands of pieces all over our patio. There was no apparent cause for this - it was totally unexplainable. I was going to call the manufacturer listed in my owner's manual, but the warranty specified that it did NOT cover glass so I was looking on the internet to find replacement parts for the table when I discovered that numerous other people had experienced the same situation with the exact same brand of patio furniture. I only wish now that I had the forethought to take pictures of the situation before we cleaned up the mess.
Obviously we are out the $700.00 dollars we paid for the table because it is now useless unless we want to have a top custom made for it at $400-$500. Also our patio is stamped concrete, and even though we have vacuumed it thoroughly there are still millions of teeny glass shards all over it and possibly in the grass that edges it. I often go into the backyard in bare feet but I guess I won't be doing that for quite some time to come. We have three small granddaughters that play on the patio and in the back yard and I worry how far the glass has spread onto the lawn where they play. We also have a purebred Golden Retriever and two cats that I worry about getting shards in their paws and getting cuts or ingesting glass from licking their feet. I am truly disgusted that after reading so many complaints of an obviously faulty product that nothing can be done to get some kind of reimbursement for at least the cost of the table top (all I actually want is a new table top - one that won't shatter for no reason).

Well the first problem I had with my hampton bay patio set was the smokey brown glass from a $1200 set just shatter into a million pieces..The manufacturer refused to replace it and home depot wanted me to bring in this glass that had shattered into tiny pieces that I already cleaned up and thrown away in order to replace it..
So it was never replaced...I bought the rectagular umbrella and the seperate base for that particular umbrella and it doesnt hold it up..it flys all over the place..I have had $100 patio sets that were better quality then this set..DO NOT BUY HAMPTON BAY PATIO FURNITURE..I wasted all this money and no one cared it was a piece of crap..
I have no glass for my table and the umbrella and base dont stand up without falling over if a tiny breeze blows..One day it almost killed my 8 month old neice in her walker on my deck...I charged it on a home depot credit card and I refuse t pay for a set that was malfunctioning from day one..

I am reading everyone's comments about their experience with the Hampton Bay outdoor table, and I have had a similar experience. Unfortunately I have no idea what happened. It wasn't raining, or windy outside when I heard a 'crash' in my backyard. I went outside to find my 2 year old glass table top shattered into a million pieces. No one was in my yard, the table had not been moved, and the umbrella base was tightened (I only knwo this b/c I needed somone to untighten it to remove the fallen umbrella) I contacted Home Depot and got the run around, they told me to call Hampton Bay. Same company I thought, but ok...I will take their suggestion. I called Hampton Bay to get a replacement top, no luck. I was even willing to pay for it myself. NOthing.
I paid about $700-800 for the set when I purchased it 2005, and I Have not used it that often. This happened in the summer of 2007, now a year after the incident, I still have nothing and no resolution from the company. A replacement glass will cost over $200 (to custom fit the umbrella hole and get the same color glass that I had previously). Otherwise the set is in good condition (frame and chairs), so I don't want to replace the entire set. Apparently it's not just me, b/c there seem to be plenty of people on this site that have had the same problem (and I am sure many more who haven't found this site).

We purchased an 8 piece patio set from Hampton Bay through Home Depot in the summer of 2006. Today I was sitting out back having lunch there and went into the house with my dishes. Moments later I heard a huge crash, and a million little pieces of shattered glass are strewn across my patio. No weather, no wind, no harsh conditions.
I'm more than upset, as I am 5 months pregnant and what if that would have happened just a few moments earlier while I was sitting there? The umbrella was laying across the chair I had been sitting in. We paid over $800 for this set and I can't believe the company has this many complaints and isn't being held accountable. It is fraudulant to know there is a problem and still sell a flawed product.
Damages are we now have a useless patio set, with no glass top for a table. It cost over $800 dollars and I am left with a huge mess to clean up that could have been avoided. Thank goodness I was not sitting there when it shattered.

I found this website while searching for a company that makes replacement glass tops for patio furniture. I was even more shocked to see another person naming the same type of furniture I have and the same loud shattering that occurred with my brown smoked glass table top. One minute it was fine the next I heard a weird noise of something shattering. I ran to my back door to see the top of my table in a zillion pieces.
To make matters worse even the clean up was difficult to say the least. I am appalled that the manufacturer has received so many reports of the same situation and has done nothing to resolve the issue. My set was purchased in March of 2006. Already last year the brown paint was peeling from the table and chairs even though it was covered and stored for the winter in a garage. The ultimate was the $300 price tag a local glass company quoted me to replace the glass top that shattered for no reason last July. I am angry that my $800 patio set is not being used by no fault of my own fater only having it for two years.

I purchased a Lasserre Bar Table set that came with a smoked glass high top table you can open to make a bar with 4 high top chairs. I maybe had the set for a year & like others heard a loud boom. My boyfriend & I looked at each other and ran out back & 1/2 of the top pane of glass was shattered into a million pieces on the deck. Nothing touched it, no inclemental weather at all. I couldn't believe it.
I called Home Depot and they said the manufacturer was BJI. I called & Spoke to a Dustin who said there was no warranty on any glass which completely stinks especially after seeing all the other people that have the same issue. He told me to replace 1/2 the pane of glass on top would be $112 without S/H. Home Depot told us we could not order a replacement piece from them. The next spring I saw that they were selling the set again. I called a new Home Depot that opened and told them what happened. They told me to come pick up the glass top for free!!I was thrilled. We replaced it and a few months later it shattered again. It still sits in my backyard.

I have just started my chain of complaints because now I am out $932.00, and I refuse to settle for anything except a replacement or a refund.

He went outside to discover that the glass top shattered into a million little pieces, leaving tiny glass shards in a ten foot radius on our patio, and depositing pieces into the crevices of our deck.
We talked to Home Depot about replacing the glass top with no luck. We have just now started researching replacement tops and learned of this happening to many consumers. We purchased a Hampton Bay Mission Bay II Dining Table in 2006. We had a wind storm go through the area in 2007 and when we came home the table top (glass) was in a million pieces on our patio. We cleaned it up and assumed it was the storm that damaged the table. So I went online to Home Depot and they had a table that I could purchase to match the 8 chairs, umbrella, 2 side tables and the umbrella holder that we had purchased in 2006.
I was thrilled to have my set complete again. We put up the new table and life was good. One day last summer, about 2 weeks after we received our new table, I was out in the front of the house, sweeping the driveway when I heard a bang and immediately knew what had happened. Yes, you guessed it, the table top was in a million pieces for no apparent reason. There was no wind storm, nothing, just a beautiful day. We put the second table frame out for the garbage people. Now I have 8 chairs, 2 side tables, an umbrella with no table and a matching umbrella stand with no table. The first time in my life I've had a matched set. Not any more. I have both of my receipts for the tables, and I think Hampton Bay owes everyone a refund!
I now have a bunch of bad furniture with no table. I'd like to get rid of this, get a refund and go buy some good quality furniture. Home Depot shouldn't be allowed to sell this stuff anymore.

Beautiful day today. Sunny, high 60's. SMASH. My Hampton Bay patio set from Home Depot just exploded ALL over the grass and sandbox. Millions of pieces. Everywhere. How do you pick glass up out of the grass and the sandbox? I went on line to google this question and I was AMAZED to discover how many people had the same issue. There are five kids in this house. How can they EVER go outside to play on the lawn. This is a fiasco, and a huge monetary loss.
A huge portion of my lawn is covered in millions of pieces of glass. My fingers are cut from glass fragments and I had on gloves. This will take forever to get cleaned up, and I'm sure it is a matter of time before one of the five kids is hurt badly. I WILL not take my business to Home Depot again after reading all of the complaints. Luckily we were not outside when it happened, but I fear the after effects will be just as dangerous. Someone needs to step up and take responsibility, ESPECIALLY since they are still selling the EXACT product at the store.

Initial problem was that we were sent the Hampton Bay patio furniture we ordered online from Home Depot in October of 2006, but two duplicate sets arrived with it. We refused the duplicates, but were never credited for the returns. After repeated contacts with Home Depot's customer support in Atlanta, the problem was supposed to be resolved and the returns credited to our MasterCard, but they never were. To add possible injury to insult, about four weeks ago, on an uncharacteristically warm and breezy Sunday in early Feb. 2008, I was sitting at my computer when I heard a loud crash. I looked out on our deck, and discovered the glass top of our patio table had shattered into a million small fragments. It looked as if someone had strewn crushed ice across the deck. While searching online for information about replacement tops, I discovered that this is a common problem with Martha Stewart and Hampton Bay patio furniture. Hence my report.
Altogether, I calculate that our transaction with Home Depot will have cost us approximately $1,000 in duplicate charges, and another $200 plus shipping to replace the shattered glass table top with an acrylic one. Fortunately, no one was injured. We will never again purchase anything from Home Depot, either online, or in store.

Prior to knowing what I know now, I went back to Home Depot a few weeks ago to see if maybe I could just buy a new table; and they said they no longer sold this product and never said why. I think they should have taken some responsibility to at least try to help, but lots of empty answers....This was a waste of $600.00 for us as well. Purchased Folin High Top Bar Table with four chairs, 3 lounges, umbrella , base for umbrella and two end tables Hampton Bay Folin Collection from Home Depot late March. This weekend, Table flipped over and glass top smashed into a gazzillion little pieces. The table flipped from a gust of wind--hard to believe but true. Thankfully, no one was by the pool deck and no one got hurt.
Called Home Depot customer service first thing Monday morning, they gave me the number to JRA furniture. Call them and they tell me the co is bankrupt and they can't replace any pieces. Not even if you are willing to pay for them. They informed me that the glass top is not under warranty, and that unfortunately, since the co. is bankrupt, they can't even order a replacement part since everything is discountinued. So I have $1300.00 of matching brand new furniture and can't use the table.
So, I called Home Depot, since my receipt is dated within 90 days and would like to exchange or return for the same item. They tell me no, since the co. is bankrupt and they lose out on the money .

Upon enjoying a lovely dinner with friends, the Hampton Bay glass top exploded all over 4 adults and 1 baby. The baby freaked of course!! The glass shot at least 6 feet, and was in tiny pieces. The glass continued to crackle once on the floor. We had cuts on ourselves, and of course dinnerwear was also destroyed as well as the food itself. As you can imagine the meticulous clean-up was on the way -- including our bloody cuts. The table was located in the kitchen with the living room, and den on either side. those too had shards of glass.

In the middle of the night, my husband and I heard a mini explosion on our backyard deck. To our surprise, we saw our Hampton Bay patio table with shattered glass all over the deck. We purchased the patio set a year ago and there was no reason why the glass on the table would break. Nothing dropped on the table to shatter the glass. Luckily our children weren't on the deck playing when it occurred - they usually play on the deck with their toys throughout the day. However, the glass did explode onto their toys (scooters, table, cars) and the rest of the deck.
My husband spent the next morning cleaning up the mess and ensuring there wasn't any residual glass to prevent any future injuries.
We are now left with just a frame of a patio table which renders it useless. We use our patio set to entertain during the spring, summer and fall. Since the table is useless, we are out $599.

Yesterday (April 23,2007) I was staining my deck in my backyard when my patio table exploded. Nothing fell on it. There were no cracks in it. We purchased the set thinking it would last for years. It was 3 years old. We now have 5 out of 6 chairs left. One swivel rocker broke apart not at the weld but the metal itself. The table is unusable without the glass. A new piece of glass will cost between $275.00 -$350.00. I would not ever want a glass table again.
We have 4 grandchildren who might have been sitting at the table. The glass broke into a million pieces which took me over an hour to clean up.
I then was curious to see if anyone else had that problem. I went on the consumer complaint website and found out that tables have been exploding all over the country.Martha Stewart, Home Depot, K Mart and other co's, who bought their glass from a company who imported it from Asia. I don't want to get into a political rant, but the Asian Co.s' standards of glass making are not up to ours.

I purchased a Disney Princess lamp, made by Hampton Bay, which I purchased at home depot in 2003. On 1/30/07 the lamp caught fire it was plugged in but not turned on, it had a 40-watt bulb in it (which it required as the box said) well it started sparking and making popping sounds as it was in flames, my 7 year old daughter came running out of her room screaming Mommy my room is on fire!. My 7 year old shares a room with my 4 month old daughter which I grabbed her out of her crib, I put the fire out myself, and thank god my oldest stayed home that day due to not feeling well. If she had went to school I don't know how much of the room would have went up in flames with my 4 month old sleeping in the crib just 4-5 feet away from the lamp.
After I put the fire out I called the fire department and they came out and looked at it, I filed a report with the fire department. I then called home depot to see if I could get a customer service number for the lamp, they gave me one and when I called I explained to the lady what had happened and she told me to bring it back to home depot and get a new lamp and they will send Hampton Bay mine!!! I was not too pleased due to the fact that god forbid my oldest daughter wasn't home my 4 month old could have gotten smoke inhalation or worse the fire could have spread to her crib!

Hampton Bay, Sydney Collection, glass top table shattered spontaneously.
We spent several thousand dollars just three months ago for a complete patio furniture collection. This consisted of the table, (now useless as it has no top), 6 chairs, large oblong umbrella, two lounge chairs and the swing. Were told that furniture lines may not be available in the future so if we wanted things to match, better buy it now. Understandable, so we did. However, came home from work to find the glass top table in thousands of pieces on the deck floor. Umbrella (was down & in calm weather)leaning against the wrought iron frame.
Called Home Depot (where we bought it in June) and were told that they had it happened three other times and to just replace the entire set as it would cost more to replace the glass! I don't need another 6 chairs or another table! I just want the glass top to be replaced and am willing to pay a fair price to do so, but have been provided no avenue in which to do so.

I ask if he had heard of this and he said no, they have had no problems like this.
I pressed him further asking are you sure? He then admitted that extreme windstorms could cause this. I told him it happened to us on a clear sunny day. Check the weather where I live, we are in a drought!
I then expressed my concern that had anyone been closer to this when this happened they could have been seriously injured! It could have been quite serious if a child had been seated at the table at the time. I believe it could have resulted in serious eye injuries. I told him these tables should be recalled before someone is seriously injured. Ervin just said there was nothing he could do. I did not even get a we are sorry this happened. I was watching tv two nights ago and all of a sudden the light started to flicker and the hall light was making an awful noise when I got up and looked there was smoke billowing from the light fixture.
I then turned the light off and called my dad to come over and look at it since they could get there sooner than any fire dept. I was sure it was going to catch on fire, but when my dad got there and looked at it we seen that it wasn't the wiring in the house. It was the wiring in the fixture burning. It took forever for it to stop smoking and I still haven't got the smell out as well as it burning my ceiling. I just wanted to tell someone about this because I have left on lights for as long as I can remember and some of them are over 23 yrs old. I think that this could have ended up with my house burning down if I happened to not have been there.
