We love DirectBuy. We have bought a lot of stuff from them including a patio set, a washer and dryer, and a bedroom set for two babies. I've ordered online and I've also called a lot of times and ordered over the phone. Product quality has been great and I've told a lot of people I got my things from DirectBuy. It's a great place to shop from but it takes a while to get things. DirectBuy is very good but if delivery was faster, it would make it a lot easier to buy stuff.

The delivery company called and gave me a date after I would be home from the hospital.

Dealing with warranty issues often present as frustrating challenges. My experience at DirectBuy Toronto NE however, was the complete opposite. Informed, prompt and courteous Romel solved my problem seamlessly and I was awarded a new mattress in no time at all. Thank you Romel - you are the best!

I’ve been a DirectBuy member for about eight years now. My membership lapsed at one point and so I didn’t use them for quite some time. And then it’s only in the last year that I’ve started using them again. I bought primarily appliances but I want to extend that to flooring. I’ve gotten high quality stuff from them and their concierge phone service has been incredibly helpful. It’s been a great experience. And I’d recommend DirectBuy to friends. I’d also let them know that they got to get online to do a bunch of extra work and they can’t go to the show suite. Even so, I would definitely use them.

Back when I was getting ready to purchase a home, I knew that I was going to need lots of stuff. I've been with DirectBuy for 13 years and they used to do a lot of advertising when I first bought it. I have purchased appliances, flooring, window coverings and some jewelry. They've all been of excellent quality. The system of purchasing is very different now though. Back then, it used to be the showroom and now it's all online. The showroom was challenging because it was overwhelming but with the new system, I find what I need, I talk to the concierge people and make sure that we're all on the same page. And it's been really easy. I was about to cancel but decided to re-up for some reason. Then my wife decided we needed a new house, so it was a good decision again. DirectBuy makes sense if you are rehabbing or moving into a new house. I'd recommend them.

We began a huge remodel project years back and DirectBuy promised to save us a lot of money so we became members. We purchased furniture, appliances, tile, granite and cabinets from them, and their cost was less than what we would pay retail in the store. Ordering through DirectBuy sometimes took a little longer if there's a problem, but overall, everything has been excellent. We've been members for years and DirectBuy's well worth our membership.

So far, the online buying experience, the quality of the products I got and their cost have been very good. But sometimes, the shipping fees are over the top. When they added it, I found that I could've bought the appliance package I bought from them at the store when they're having a sale. But I would tell friends and family about them. One of my friends went with DirectBuy a long time ago, and I got the membership too, more than 12 years ago. I moved to work in another town and I got most of my furniture and appliances from them and then I renewed my appliances in my house when I moved from one house to another. Every now and then, I'd get some gifts from them to give to my daughters and friends. My only concern is that sometimes the shipping takes so long. I ordered stuff in July, and it's in back order. When I asked about it, they told me it will be shipped by September. So, two months is too much.
Other than that, I feel comfortable when I see products that I buy from DirectBuy. They're a trustable company to deal with. I prefer online shopping and we're about an hour and a bit away from the closest DirectBuy. My brother-in-law and his wife were in it years before and they tried to get us into it but it wasn’t feasible for us at that time. I joined DirectBuy five years ago and I never had an opportunity to use it then. When I moved to Pittsburgh, I needed to get some work done so, I tried to find a DirectBuy dealer. I found the DB Designs but they said DirectBuy had stopped contracts with everyone. So, I called up the DirectBuy number I had and I dealt with the people by phone to purchase the hardwood floors I wanted.
I did a lot of shopping. The woman that had worked for DirectBuy showed me different floors and gave me prices. She helped me out quite a bit and she told me she'd get back to me which she did. It was fast and it was well done. On the other hand, I thought that it's not the best price that I could get. So, I called all around different places and did all kinds of searching. Without a doubt, DirectBuy was the best price, the same materials and it's very nice. I have purchased 2,500 square feet of hardwood floor for my downstairs remodeling project. The quality is outstanding and everybody who sees the floors says it's the most beautiful floor they've ever seen. I'm also waiting to get a quote from them on some other things.
DirectBuy also went into that membership with a travel partner and that seems to be pretty good. I plan to take advantage of that in the future. Overall, I like the ease of purchase, they met the requirements of the material I wanted, and the service and the treatment I received were very professional and courteous. I'd tell others to go through DirectBuy.

Just 18 months from moving into the new home and over 70 percent of the fixtures don't work. The best DirectBuy could do? Send us a bolded statement that their warranty only covers 12 months. We signed up when they still had showrooms. A year later the showroom closed and now they're an online shopping club. As a member I was never told about the bankruptcy or that they lost our local delivery warehouse, I was also never told our local club was closing. Having a local warehouse meant local pick-up and no $90 home delivery fee. Here's the run down on DB. They offer the most expensive items at a discount, most of which normal people don't buy. Unless you're buying a club exclusive, don't bother shopping here. Most things you want you can find online cheaper or the same price without paying a yearly or monthly club fee.
They say that you will save up to 30% off, but with all of their fees and delivery fees you save nothing. It's becoming a bit of a scam in some respects. Their Fees will destroy Any savings. It's just not what it used to be and frankly I don't think they'll be around much longer. They seem to be trying to get what they can before they collapse. Join At Your Own Risk.

I have been a customer of DirectBuy for 10 years. My experiences years 1-5 in Rochester and Albany, NY, were stellar. When we moved to SC, we had a costly and horrible experience with kitchen design, cabinets and recommended contractor. Then DirectBuy closed the showroom. My closest showroom is now 4 hours away in Atlanta. We were told not to worry, that concierge services would be available free of charge.
In the last 3 months we have moved and tried diligently to utilize DirectBuy to purchase items. After 2 experiences of doing extensive research and being ready to place an order We were told that they no longer were able to access those manufacturers that remain CURRENTLY LISTED ON THEIR WEBSITE, we tried to use the concierge service, only to be told that is an extra $100 fee. Yesterday, I Requested a quote on a mirror and (with all added fees) was quoted $480. I can buy it locally for $465. They say that their base price was less (which it was), but the TOTAL price was more. Sadly, In my opinion, DB has become a bait and switch rip off.

I joined many years ago for around $2,000. The whole process of finding anything was labor intensive and tiring. At that time, most of the shopping had to be done in their showroom. I was told by the staff on more than one occasion that they were order takers only... Any savings you derive comes from YOUR OWN RESEARCH. The shipping costs are outrageous and they wait until they have a truck full of items coming from a particular company or manufacturer in order to ship your product. Remember - if you purchase something you do not like, you can not return it. They may offer to let you set it on the showroom floor to see if another member wants to buy it. So, not only is the shipping high but it takes a LONG time to get anything.
Between the shipping, the upcharge of 8% on every purchase plus your membership fee, how does anyone save anything? Watch their ad that claims by being a member you can beat retail pricing. Wow... What idiot pays retail with all the online resources. There is no way DirectBuy can hold a candle to comparing products online and paying the price shown. You will have more customer service than DB ever thought of plus you most likely can return an item if you are unhappy. DirectBuy is one of two major financial mistakes of my life. It's a scam.

First of all, right off the bat, if you are thinking of joining DB well, BUYER BEWARE. I recommend you not do so. This is a business on a downward spiral no matter what pitch they give you. It is just striving to be online shopping and you don't save nearly enough to warrant paying to join. Saving enough used to be the case but not now, with showrooms having closed etc. I agree with all of the ONE STAR reviews and have had similar experiences. We've been long time members and even had our children join. SO regret that because shortly after they did so, the showroom closed, what seemed like 'overnight' and while they attempted to keep it secret, it came out that DB had gone into bankruptcy. I feel we got 'conned' since we'd joined the travel portion and it's not at all what we'd been led to believe it would be. And we are not mindless consumers but rather asked good questions and well, simply got duped.
For the over 12 years we've been members, the business model was to NEVER go shopping for things local and then come back for the purchase through DB. The showroom had samples, great customer service, people who knew the products etc. Now, it's just a call center. I've repeatedly questioned how I could look at samples for furniture without going to some local store and 'using them' since there are no sample books. I get a run around that I can ask for fabric and they'll send. Really? The whole sample book. Also, so many of the fine manufacturers that used to be available to DB members aren't anymore. And the travel is A JOKE. A JOKE.
In comparing the EXACT cruise, right down to the EXACT room, the cost and the 'bonuses' with Norwegian were ALL the same. And yet we'd gotten duped to pay 1500$ to upgrade to the travel section because 'supposedly' we could go ANYWHERE we wanted, ANY TIME. Not so. Instead, it's some flunky places with VERY restricted dates. So don't be swayed. I would love to have my entire fee back and don't plan to renew. Businesses like this don't deserve to stay in business and can only do so by getting people to join. Again, anything I've checked into I've found to be within a pittance of the same price from other sources. So it's not worth the thousands you pay to join.
Yes, it was 12 years ago when we did a kitchen, major remodels, bought various properties. But over the years I could find very similar pricing other places. So, don't be swayed that you'd get the best price, product availability and service ever. After all, do you want to pay thousands to join because you want carpet, then shop for said carpet looking at a website and having them send a sample? That's NOT the way to make those decisions. But of course, it isn't right to go to a local retail store, bring their sample book home and then buy through DB. That is the model they encourage although they'd deny that. No sensible consumer should ever purchase major items from a website.

We have been members for over 10 years. We did save a lot of money during our first home remodel, mostly on cabinets. This time around the hassle of dealing with the online only service has been horrendous. The designer we are required to go through is too busy (Her words) to call us back, her knowledge of the product leaves a lot to be desired, cabinets keep showing up broken and we're still waiting for some parts to show up 3 weeks after the first delivery.
As for DirectBuy customer service, they don't return phone calls and no one there seems to be the person responsible for taking a complaint and finding a resolution. Besides cabinets, everything else we look for at DirectBuy is more expensive than sites like Overstock or Wayfair. The selection has also gone downhill - there are not as many vendors to choose from and the products they do over are limited. They also charge 10-20% on top of the price for handling and fees - Pretty high when you do all the work yourself on the internet now. We will not be renewing our membership anymore - there are no cost savings and the customer service is horrible.

We signed up for a DirectBuy account when we started doing our renovations almost 2 years ago. First off most items we wanted were the same price or cheaper than outside directbuy prices. There was the odd thing that was lower in price. When the store was open here in town going in was a couple hour affair as the way things were organized were by brand, not cupboards, or toliets or tires etc. So you would be going through book after book to get to the specific item in that catalogue. And trust me there were hundreds of catalogues! Then it got even worse. They decided to shut the store down and we do everything over the internet.
Now it wouldn't be so bad if they had every item on the website. But they don't. So they make consumers email the "concierge" and ask questions. 80% of the time they would message back saying they don't sell anything like that. Or if you sent them certain specs they would email you something with specs that were nothing like the ones you asked for! In total in the 2 years we have spent less than $1000.00. Not because we didn't want to buy things. But that having the directbuy account was an overpriced ripoff! Please don't waste your money. All they will do is offer you $150.00 credit for your complaints.

Eight years ago I joined and broke even with the large (don't remember, $5K? membership fee) with the first purchase of window coverings for my new home. They were amazing. I have purchased furniture, fake grass, kitchen supplies etc. and saved thousands. In previous years there was great savings on many other things needed. I am not sure what happened over the years, whether it was DirectBuy that changed or the vendors that did not like their concept, but now I do not even use it. I try, and always find that if I put the model number into the search engine I will find a better price.
DirectBuy has some guarantee % (15-20 or so) if you submit the lower price via screenshot. But honestly, with their wait time for delivery, it is not worth it. I would have to buy thousands of dollars to make up for the few hundred renewal fee each year. Do not buy a new membership. I will be dropping my renewal this year.

I ordered a Riverside Entertainment Center from DirectBuy on August 24th 2016. Estimated ship date for the order was early September 2016. The order was then bumped out to the end of October, and then to the end of November. I called DirectBuy to get an honest ship date and was unable to get the information. They told me they would have a merchandise specialist call me and that never happened. They also failed to provide a reason for the delay. On December the 9th I contacted them again and began calling daily and asking for an update. Finally on December the 21st 2016 they told me the order had been delayed and was not expected to ship until January, with a new delivery date of Jan 19th, 2017. I ask them to cancel my order and was told it would be canceled.
Two days later I received an email telling me the order could not be canceled and had already shipped... but the delivery date was still January 19th, 2017. I called DirectBuy back and ask how it would take a month to ship the product if it was already on the truck? I told them I no longer needed the furniture as I had bought a replacement from a local store two days earlier when they told me it would be canceled. I was told they could do nothing to help and that I could always try to sell it on eBay.
Yesterday was January the 19th and I still do not have my furniture. It has been 6 months and DirectBuy still refuses to cancel my order. They left me a voicemail last night telling me it has been in a warehouse since January the 9th and I needed to call the warehouse to setup the delivery (which I paid extra for them to handle). Direct Buy lied about my order on multiple occasions and failed to provide adequate customer service. I will never purchase from Direct Buy again and will never buy Riverside Furniture again. Both companies are responsible for this situation and neither has done anything to help. Direct Buy is one of the most unprofessional companies I have ever worked with.

I have been a member for over 10 years, but the changes that DirectBuy has made recently have been at the expense of their members. They have closed all of their local showrooms and are now an online shopping club only. In October I placed an order for a Flexsteel sofa and chair. It was supposed to be delivered before Christmas, but I got an email on the delivery date that stated that they have severed their relationship with Flexsteel and were cancelling my order. I argued that I should still be able to receive the furniture that I ordered and paid for 2 months ago, but they refused to do anything but cancel my order and refund my money!! The customer service is AWFUL and even their vendors don't want to do business with them anymore!

Very disappointed with DirectBuy. Do not buy membership. Very expensive. We have bought a bunch of items and have gotten good deals but paying handling fees? My complaint is I needed to get our Levelor blind repaired and contacted Cherise in the mountain view California office. I had to pay 25 dollars. She said that I had to send it back and find a box big enough to send it off. Months and months went by because I could not get one. I went to carpet one and they said they would give me tube for free. I contacted DirectBuy and asked if all still ok etc. The mountain view office was closed and Cherise said call DirectBuy she no longer has anything to do with it. I did and they showed that I paid the money to get them repaired. I packaged the blinds put paperwork the actual email that I had received and asked to send to my address etc.
I have been waiting and received a call from a person that bought our commercial building a year and a half ago and said that Levelor returned the blinds there and threw them over a large rod iron gates. The box was damaged. I called DirectBuy and asked why did this happen. The person spoke with someone there and said this is not DirectBuy's responsibility that I gave the wrong info? What? Why would I give an incorrect address? They asked that can FedEx come and pick up package. First of all the person did not have to call us and tells us what happened. Directbuy said leave it outside gate? It would get stolen. Not the best neighborhood. Well can someone go get it? I now live three hours away one way. Directbuy said they will replace it with a new one and will call me next day. That did not happen.
I called again and he said they need package to examine it? This is at least a 500 shade. After reading all the lies and what they have done to people no wonder they are out of business. Customer service very terrible. I would get a call back maybe two weeks later after calling over and over again. I do not know what to do now. I was called pretty much a liar and asked for the repair shade to be sent to my old address from a year and a half ago. Directbuy deserves everything they are getting.

We purchased a very expensive membership in Albuquerque after being very impressed with the local club and the supposed customer service. We were somewhat satisfied until the club closed and suddenly the customer service tanked. I would add that in the seminar, we were assured the club was staying for a long time - with their recent remodel effort. False. Fast forward three years. We have been pleased with the small purchases we have made but have yet to recover our membership costs.
We ordered a sectional and a table back in May and early July and they still have not been delivered. We have ordered other items only to be told they are discontinued. I have made numerous phone calls and the corporate office has ignored me. This is beyond unreasonable. I found this to be a very poor decision on my part and we do not have a lot of extra money - we viewed this as an investment. The information provided at the seminar was very misleading and inaccurate. We were not appraised of the annual fee until we were ready to sign the contract. I do not recommend this company to anyone.

Several years ago my husband and I joined DirectBuy for a fee of $5,000.00. I have had nothing but bad experiences since then. I have contacted DirectBuy numerous times and discussed my dissatisfaction with them. I have repeatedly requested a refund. I have only saved money on carpeting and that is it. I had granite counters installed. I used DirectBuy to purchase my granite and have it installed. The people at the granite place treated me like scum once I told them I was a DirectBuy member. They did not give me a discount on my granite or the installation. And I was made to pay in full upfront. I asked why I had to pay in full when the customer before me only had to pay half now and half after installation.
She said because I was a DirectBuy member and that was their policy. I told her that as a member of DirectBuy I was suppose to get special pricing and should be treated like any other customer. She said they were giving me a free kitchen sink with my purchase. They do that with every purchase. After installation of my granite was completed they determined that they had overcharged me $1,300.00. It took me over 3 months to get that money back. This would not have happened if I had been treated like a normal customer and only paid half down and the rest after installation. I would have been better off if I had never mentioned that I was a DirectBuy member.
Then I decided I would try to purchase a hot tub through DirectBuy. I found they offered Hot Springs hot tubs and we have a local dealer. So I wanted to do a wet test before purchasing. I called DirectBuy to ask them how this could be done. They said they would set it up with the local dealer. Well, the dealer said that I could not do a wet test because I was a DirectBuy member. Again I would have been better off if I had never mentioned that I was a DirectBuy member. I do not purchase a hot tub through DirectBuy. I also did not purchase one from the local dealer who treated me differently than a regular customer just because I was a member of DirectBuy. I instead purchased a hot tub from another dealer in another town.
I purchased an Ashley sectional through DirectBuy which did save me some money. I was told I would have the regular 5 year manufacturer warranty. Well, that was a lie. Ashley informed me that they would not honor the manufacturer warranty because I did not purchase the sectional from them. I have had so many bad experiences with the sectional and Ashley says call DirectBuy and DirectBuy says call Ashley's. Well I will never do business with or purchase another Ashley product, from them or through DirectBuy or any other dealer that sells Ashley furniture. So how much money have I saved for my $5,000.00 club fee? Roughly $2,000.00. So, If I had never joined, I would be $3,000.00 ahead and my sectional would still be under warranty. I have tried really hard to at least break even with my DirectBuy membership. But it seems to be an impossible task.

We purchased a VERY EXPENSIVE membership to DirectBuy of Silicon Valley in March 2016 after going to a home show where they had a booth. We toured the club, where they had hundreds (or thousands) of displays of items for remodeling. We are planning a remodel and from what reviews said and examples they gave it would be a good buy, so we fell for it. We just got a letter telling us that the club closed (10 days ago) and that we can continue using online services with samples sent to us via mail. How are we supposed to do a remodel this way?? They also are not returning calls regarding a refund based on their closure. What a waste of money.

So a long time ago my wife and I got a membership with DirectBuy. It cost us around $2,000 to join and $200 a year. The other thing I have purchased there for ourselves was some stuff for my Master Bathroom. I was able to save my mom on some cabinets and my in-laws but other than that NOTHING. I went to Lowe's for a refrigerator for prices and then compared it to DirectBuy. DirectBuy was only $200 cheaper but I would have to wait 2 months to get the product. Well then several years later we were convinced to buy their Vacation Plan for an extra $2,000.00 plus an extra $200 a month, so now we are paying $400.00 a year for Membership.
The Vacation plan does not save you any money. It is cheaper just to call the hotel and book a room. They told us they were better than the RCI Resorts and they are NOT. I read someone else's review and they said they only carry high end and they are right. If you want a $10,000 bedroom set and save $500 and wait between a month to a month and a half then this place is for you. They do not carry any products that normal Middle Class person would want or need. So, please do not waste your money. To finalize this up I have spent around $7,500.00 in Membership Fees in these past years and save maybe a $1,000.00 in 12 years.

I received the postcard from DirectBuy promising a Android tablet and $100 dining card. I bit the hook and stopped in to see what the excitement was about. It looked so good, beautifully appointed showroom with endless opportunities for top of the line appliances and lighting. Four of us were led into a private room to watch the amazing videos about how incredible the deep discounts are for top of the line appliances. As I watched the others in the room, they were mesmerized by the options. Then the sales [expert] guy came back to the room to show us how other stores can't meet the pricing that DirectBuy offers and they are very proud of the fact they have contracts with all of the companies.
Now the fun begins... membership pricing! I sat there amazed. He did point out right away that the reason they charge what they do is so you can get the lowest price on any appliances, sinks and mirrors. $7000 was the top tier membership and that includes deep travel discounts, $1500 was the lowest fee, stripped down of course to the bare bones. It does not include the design and travel. We were then allowed to go and look around, look at prices as well. We were then paired up with a designer who was there to answer any questions that came up while watching the presentation. My intuition was on high alert and walked out with the following, Android Tablet and $100 Dining Card. I was exhausted after the 2 hour visit and was told that I could never come back again if I didn't purchase the membership.Awesome!!!
Note to DirectBuy: Never send me another card and lose my email, please. Note to victims of this scam: They told us that we couldn't share what we saw with the manufacturer for fear of losing their precious contracts. Seeing how all of you have been denied a refund, I would call all of the manufacturers contracted and share with them what you know. Call the competitors and share what you know and let them know how you were treated and share with the competitors what prices were disclosed to you. Maybe they will lose these contracts and begin to refund your money. Maybe. So glad I walked out. Best decision ever.

While my experience with DirectBuy has been a good one, there are things to know before you decide to join. This is NOT a bargain discount center. They carry high quality items at good prices. If you are looking for a great deal on something that is carried in every local appliance or hardware store, you might be disappointed. I can often find those things at clearance, open box and other sales. What they excel in is carrying high quality items at a discounted price.
I do not buy everything from them. I am getting a vent hood for my kitchen elsewhere, and I bought my double ovens elsewhere. I did buy my induction cooktop through them, my cabinets from them, and my countertop through them. The cabinets are a manufacturer that Home Depot also carries, and we saved enough to use the extra savings to get built-ins in the living room. Home Depot quoted me around $21,000 for the cabinets, but we got them for much less than that at DirectBuy. I have gotten quotes from other companies for countertops, and I am getting a better deal through DirectBuy. Flooring is about the same as the box stores for some, but better pricing for the higher end flooring.
What sold us on the membership to start with was the fact that a kitchen designer is on staff and will give you a new kitchen design based on your needs and wants, and that is included in the membership. That feature has given us the ability to get a beautiful, functional kitchen in plywood construction, not pressed wood, and we saved enough to get the pull-outs I wanted. We wanted a new front door, and two different back doors, and were able to get them all through DirectBuy. The front door is ThermaTru, and the back doors (one sliding door off the kitchen to the deck and one off the living room) are Andersen. We priced them elsewhere and found that the Andersen doors were cheaper elsewhere due to a once a year sale. We took that quote to DirectBuy who worked with the vendor to beat that pricing for us. It saved us a few hundred dollars.
Our items are coming in as I write this. The cooktop is ready for delivery, as well as the doors. The cabinets are under construction now, and delivery will be in about 3 weeks. As you can see, unless you have more money than time, it pays to shop around and buy wherever you find the deals. There will be leg work involved to find the best prices, and compare them to DirectBuy. Our DirectBuy's policy is to take anything they sell and work with the vendor to give you a better deal than what you were quoted from an outside source. It works if you do it right. The amount we paid for the membership, which we paid in cash, no financing, has already been recovered in savings. My kitchen design is beautiful and I can't wait to make holiday dinners in it.
Are there things I got elsewhere? Absolutely! Still, I love our local showroom, I enjoy the selection of products there, and like being able to work with the same people time and again. Some downsides are the price of the membership if you are not buying a lot of high quality items, the showroom hours, and the website. Its search engine leaves soo much to be desired. Advise if you are thinking of joining- go in with your eyes open. Ask questions, get pricing, try to pay cash for the membership, not financing, and expect to still have to do some legwork on your own. Each one of these stores is a franchise, and not all of them are alike. My experience here might not be the same as someone's from another area, so check out your own location. If they aren't willing to show you around, answer questions or tell you their policies, don't join. My location so far has been above board with everything.

I am Canadian and recently purchased a vacation home in Florida. I needed to buy new appliances for the home and was not in a hurry so decided to order them from DirectBuy which ended up being a huge mistake. It took several weeks for the appliances to arrive and after they finally did arrive I learned that they do not offer installation in the Florida area and simply 'DROP' them in your driveway. I use the word DROP because that is exactly what they did. There was so much damage on the units (washer, dryer and dishwasher), that it was ridiculous. Of course I did not see the damage as I simply had a friend receive the delivery and put the items in the garage until I could get someone to install them.
A friend of mine then went down to the house for me a little while later to specifically install the units. He reported the damage to me, took several pictures and I called DirectBuy. The dishwasher leg was so badly broken that the unit could not even be installed. The washer and dryer's were dented on the front and sides like someone had taken a hammer to them. It was principal for me that I had just paid for new units and yet were receiving ones that looked used.
I quickly called them to get the items returned to learned that it is not quite that easy. In fact it is impossible. I was asked for several pictures of the items, which I already had as my friend had sent me several. I thought this would suffice. A couple of days later they contacted me for more pictures, the ones I had sent were not 'good' enough. By this time my friend had already left back for Canada so I had to call someone in the area to go to the house and take more pictures. They still were not sufficient. A few days later I received an email from DirectBuy apologizing and stating that they were looking at the images incorrectly and that they were good enough. I thought it would be fine after that.
Nope. A while later I received yet another email requesting more pictures. I informed DirectBuy that I would be returning to Florida the next week and would take them when I arrived. Before I arrived I got a nasty email from DirectBuy stating that too much time had passed since the receipt of the units and they no longer could help me. I would then have to deal directly with the MFG and was given their phone numbers.
What a scam. I am now stuck with units that look years old. This is not what I paid for and they clearly do not care. I would never buy from them again. I have since cancelled my membership and warn anyone to shop around. You can find the same price, if not better at a local store that would guarantee their products. DirectBuy is nothing but a headache and at the end of the day they do not care about customer service and customer satisfaction. A huge disappointment as I would have ordered many more items from them as I am redoing the house. Not any longer.

We fell for the sales pitch a couple of years ago. "Brand name items at huge discounts. We carry all major brands. Save lots of money. PLUS, here's a $1,000 travel gift card!" First off, the $1,000 travel gift card is only good to pay the difference between "wholesale" and "retail" prices on hotels. And the only hotels included in their program the times that we attempted to use the meager savings, were all 4 star or higher, so if you're traveling on any kind of a budget, forget it. They don't carry computers or laptops, so no savings there. The furniture they carry does not include all major manufacturers (no La-Z-Boy at all). And after paying the delivery and service charges, the savings are minimal.
We had carpet installed through Direct Buy, and we saved a few hundred dollars on the carpet, but that was more than eaten up with labor because you're limited to the companies that they contract with. And the appliances are all high end, so if you're an average, median income family that would be looking at models that you could get at your local big box hardware or appliance store, forget that too. And when you complain, you're told that you should've worked more closely with their representatives to find the right products for you. That they're sorry to hear that you're not satisfied, but you're on the hook for the entire enrollment fee because remember, it's a loan from a finance company. So if you stop payment, it's defaulting on a loan. But when you get notified that your membership is up for renewal, you're under no obligation to renew. So, when they put the pressure on, WALK AWAY!!!

During that time, I purchased 2 new homes and had a major renovation in one of the homes. The membership was so worth it because I always made big purchases. I joined DirectBuy to get home improvement products cheaper. Here's the deal though, if you are bargain hunter, you know how to shop sales, wait for things to go on sale, check the clearance section of stores and are willing to compromise certain things for a cheaper price. DirectBuy is not meant for that type of shopper. They are meant for the shopper that says, "I want this Rowe Furniture couch, no matter what it costs". If you are THAT shopper, then great....DB may be for you. If you know how to really shop for a deal and expect DB to help with that, forget it. DB is for high-end stuff. I bought a washer that was $400 cheaper than I could get it at Home Depot, but it was top of the line. If you want bottom of the line stuff, or even mid-grade, you are better going to the other retailers. Also, their online shopping sucks and they closed the location near me. So, I need carpet and have no idea how I'm going to figure out how to buy it thru DB to get it cheaper.

I wish my husband and I had read these reviews and relevant information about DirectBuy before we attended their "seminar" in May 2013. My husband saw some DirectBuy ads on tv. Long ago there had been a showroom in Des Moines. We never paid much attention to it. We didn't know anyone who had fallen victim to their sales pitch. We were getting ready to do a huge remodel on our home so decided to attend a seminar in Lenexa, KS, not far from our daughter's home. We were curious about what DirectBuy is and hoping it might save us money in our remodel project.
I can not believe we fell victim to this scam. We are very careful with our money. I have no idea why we handed over $4,000 to join. The gentleman was so smooth. If we walked out the door, the price would go up to $5,000, "you are 'saving' a thousand dollars if you just sign here." We looked around the showroom and saw cabinets, garage door openers, doors, etc. All things we would be purchasing. Posted were all testimonials of how much people were saving with DB. So, we fell victim and signed. We got in our truck, looked at each other, and said, "What the heck did we just do?" And, we didn't have the 3-day reconsider rule as KS does not have that. I can see why DB left Iowa as it enacted that rule. DB doesn't want to be in a state which has that. People would walk out the door and promptly cancel. We would have. I can't believe we were so gullible.
In trying to navigate the DB method of buying things, we discovered most is done through email. We did drive to KS (3 1/2 hour drive) several times to get help with trying to navigate the "system." It became clear, we were pretty much on our own. We purchased a washer and dryer which ended up saving us a couple hundred dollars. (Wow on our way to making $4000 worth it?) When it came to most of the items for our remodel, we purchased locally from big box stores. It was easier as some of the items we would have had to drive to KS, no shipping to home available. We did purchase our cabinets from DB. We did not have to pay extra to deal with the cabinet lady. She proved to be a valuable resource as she knew her stuff. We did save a little by going through DB. We like the cabinets so far -- only been in a couple months.
I ordered a barn/farm sink on Feb. 23, 2016. It did not arrive until the middle of April. I made several calls to DB in KS. I became the person I do not like to be, but I needed to get the sink. The delay in delivery caused over a month's delay in completing my kitchen. I was so frustrated. Supposedly, it was delivered to the moving company in DM, but they said they didn't have it. I wanted to cancel the order and get it somewhere else. Well, that was not a possibility. So, I had to wait for them to order me another one. I ordered my fridge, microwave, dishwasher, and stove through DB. I did save some when comparing to big box stores. But, again, I will never save $4,000.
On the stove and fridge, I paid $20.00 each for "white glove" delivery. That was a joke. The men who delivered the fridge didn't know how to get the doors off the fridge to get it into the house and put it in place per the description of "white glove" delivery. They said we could get our money back. From whom??? The movers did put my stove in place after chipping some of my woodwork. So much for ever using that again. Don't even try that.
Also, on two of the appliances, I was charged $100 and $45 for "club handling" fees. What, $4000 isn't enough? Now, I get a letter, email, and voice message the showroom in KS is closing. You have got to be kidding me. But, DB will have the same quality of service through their "Concierge Shopping." We will see how that works out. I hope nothing goes wrong with our cabinets. I am not sure where I will start if something does happen. I felt fairly secure in knowing the cabinet lady was on speed dial, but she won't be available for me anymore. So, my message is don't buy in to DB. You will never save that much money. I still kick myself for having signed. I could have done so much more with that $4,000.

The overall experience in ordering a desk for our new home has be very poor from the beginning and is still awaiting full resolution. To begin the delivery date for our product pushed out by over four weeks from the original promise date however the online tracking system did not reflect the changes. In fact it showed the order as cancelled after the original delivery date had come and gone. When the product was delivered it was to be unloaded and assembled by the delivery company. However, the product was damaged and they did not have the tools to assemble the product. When my wife tried to refuse the delivery due to the damage they would not remove the product from our house. She noted the damage on the delivery receipt and immediately took pictures not only of the damage but also of the way the delivery team left the product in our house.
All of the pictures and correspondence was sent to the DirectBuy staff within 24 hrs of the delivery occurring and asked them for resolution. Initially they stated that they were going to replace the damaged sections, three in total, and that they would be shipped to us. Unfortunately when the replacements arrived there was only one section replaced and the most heavily damaged sections were left. Upon contacting DirectBuy they have stated that they replace the one out of courtesy and that if I wanted the others replaced I would need to purchase the new sections. Having been a paying member of this group for over ten years I can definitely say that that has been a tremendous waste of money and I would not recommend DirectBuy to anyone.

When attempting to get updates as to where our furniture order was, the website offered no assistance, so we attempted to contact Chelsea who refused to call us back after multiple requests to do so. We finally received an update via email that it should arrive on 4/1. When we received no communication by 4/6, we called only to find out that only half of our order had arrived and that the rest should arrive by the next week. Again, received no proactive communication and had to chase it down ourselves.
Finally got a call on 4/8 that our furniture had arrived but that one of the pieces was damaged. Had to again call Chelsea multiple times without a return call until eventually we spoke with her manager who assured us that our final piece would be delivered as soon as possible. Finally received an email from Chelsea telling us that our piece would arrive by 5/2. This is 8 weeks which is outside of the 4-6 weeks 'max' delivery time and we have received no compensation to date for this horrible experience. However, EVERY single delivery person has been amazing!!! THEY know customer service... DirectBuy does not.

At least that is what we're told by DirectBuy agent whose card I still have. True, we bought a pair of shoes online which we paid for out of pocket but the shoes turned out to be of very poor quality. The leather inside had a rough finish and hurt so much.
Now that we want to use the money, they first gave me the runaround and then told me that the entire amount paid to them was a three-year membership fee and that if I wanted to buy anything, I have to pay for it out of pocket. The agent had told us something different and we trusted her; however, we later found a disclaimer that read that any verbal representation not written on the contract would not be honored. I give them credit for being a genius in shortchanging so many people but I wish there could be a way to warn people to beware of this unfortunate snare.
Now I have to tough it up and explain to my wife that I was stupid for once. Check out club membership at Walmart, Sam's and Costco. Each day, each month, every year you see the benefit of the relationship. Not so DirectBuy! They take your money for three years and then turn around to remind you that you were another one of their losers. I wish aggrieved members can band together and find a way to get some of their money back.

Buyer beware. We purchased our membership three years ago in Illinois. We were told that a DirectBuy location was being built in Wisconsin closer to our home. This never happened. I called and spoke to the manager several times pleading to let us out of our membership. We were denied. 3,600.00 including interest I spent on this membership and never once used it. Don't get me wrong, I did attempt to make purchases but the product was either out of stock or the savings weren't as expected. DirectBuy and everything they represent is fraudulent.

One of the WORST money decisions I've made! It sounds good, but it's for very high end products. Then if the price is good, they get you with the shipping cost. For example I was looking for a Jacuzzi tub. Found one exact same as Lowe's. You know DirectBuy beat all prices. Well it was exact, except the product # and name. This is how they get around comparison shopping. I'm so disappointed in myself, but it a lesson learned. If this review helps one person from wasting their money. I'll feel vindicated.

We joined 25 yrs ago back in Detroit, MI. Moved to MO, FL, and GA continuing our membership. During the past two decades, and up until the recent shift of DirectBuy's business model, we saved over $130k. We purchased everything from flooring, high-end furniture, gifts, dishes, toys, bikes, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, blinds, granite... on and on... It was an amazing experience of selections, and savings. They didn't have the internet when we first joined. We had to peruse catalogs and samples, but it was all worth it.
The new focus is to go online, and shutdown all the Brick and Mortar Clubs. BIG MISTAKE! I don't have a knowledgeable customer service rep to assist in my ordering, and now we are dependent on the poorly designed, not state-of-the-art website. It's now so slow and antiquated that I get frustrated every time I shop. I have done pricing requests with already knowing what the pricing should be only to find out the pricing is higher than what had been previously quoted at a local club (now closed). Yes, they have Pricing Integrity, but I don't have time to watch whether or not the price is fair.
I joined for one-stop shopping, high quality products at a price I could afford. I believe DirectBuy's new management will drive the corporation into the ground due to their lack of ability to compete online with better online business experience. I am strongly considering not renewing my membership after 25 yrs due to poor service. I wouldn't recommend joining any longer... what a shame!

One of the worst money choices/purchases I have ever made and I am a grown adult. Please, please be smarter than I was, it IS too good to be true. So I joined DirectBuy in 2015, thinking as everyone wrote it was a great deal. I was so wrong. DirectBuy is more suited for people with a lot of money who want to buy expensive things for maybe a little less. Because everything I looked at, I found for lower on the internet. But if you find the same exact they will meet the price. You will not find the same item because they make sure of that one, especially on the furniture and with shipping it ends up more. Went to Nebraska Furniture Mart to look at dining tables, we found one and I said to my husband, we have not been able to use our DirectBuy, so let's see what we can do.
I found a table that was similar, but with shipping it cost 300 more. Where are my savings, lies, lies and more lies. So the furniture might not work for me, so I thought the vacation package would be great! We had bonus points, which WE COULD NOT USE ALL AT ONCE! What is that, so I have enough bonus points but can only use a certain amount and the rest comes out of my pocket! So I booked a trip on Carnival Cruises with DirectBuy, using their travel agents, thinking somehow I would get my money worth out of this, but oh no. My sister and brother also booked directly through Carnival and got the same price. What a ripoff and waste of money. Sure wish we could get a class action lawsuit going and put these people out of business. Not too sure how they live with their lies.
I am in Florida, the Davie Store, the owner sure made you think he was such a Christian man and for the underdog, to help out families. Too bad for hard working families who get sucked into this hardcore pressure tactic. Please don't be fooled like I was, this is a ripoff, scam, take your money place. Run from them as fast as you can, the rewards they offer are not what they advertise.

My husband, and myself went to a DirectBuy intro. We were to get 2 roundtrip air tickets. We sent the voucher in the next day but didn't hear anything right away. As life goes, we would remember and forget it. We pulled it out a couple of months ago, it had been 6 months since we had received it. We called the company and asked if we could make reservations. We were told, after 2 months of searching for it, that the vouchers were expired when DirectBuy gave them to us. They had never been any good!
We called their, I guess, Corporate Office and were told by Andrea in Customer Relations that there was nothing they could do about it, that the DirectBuy we went through did the promotion. Since they all get paid out of the same basket, you would think they would be terribly sorry and try to make something right. After all, we did our part. I would not use DirectBuy and will encourage people I know not to renew theirs. They do not honor theirs or their employee's word. After all, it was the manager of the DirectBuy in Rocklin, CA that issued them to us.

Five years ago we lived in California & belonged to the Bakersfield Club (90 miles away). High pressure sign today & stupidly we did. Within a year the club closed. Just because the club closed we can't refund any portion of your membership fee, we were told. Fast forward 2 years, we moved to North Carolina with a club 90 miles away. So we visited. Again a few months later that club closed. Shopping online for major purchases without the ability to return the product unless you pay shipping & a restocking fee which is half the cost of the item isn't my idea of a positive shopping experience! That could be avoided by simply by getting to go to a club & see the product. What a waste of money! We did purchase kitchen appliances only because we could go to the local big box store & see the items. Never came close to saving the amount of the membership fee.

After seeing commercials on TV, on 12/12/15 my wife and I signed onto the DirectBuy service to purchase new kitchen cabinets as well as other household items. The cost of membership was $7,601.63. The salesman told us we could buy virtually any household item at or below wholesale costs. He said we would save enough money on our kitchen remodel to pay for our membership. Before we signed the contract, he told us we had 72 hours to cancel. At the conclusion of the conversation, Tony told us we would be getting a membership card in 2 or 3 days and we could then make an appointment to talk with a representative to order what we wanted.
Our membership cards arrive about a week after signing the contract. We called to make an appointment to pick out and order kitchen cabinets, flooring, a drop fan, faucet, etc. The representative told us we would be charged an additional $300.00 to speak with a kitchen designer. I questioned why we would have to pay the additional cost when we had just paid for the membership. She said we could come in the following day and she would give us a ball park figure if we brought in our kitchen cabinet measurements.
We went to the store in Mountain View and spoke with her. She said DirectBuy could not provide cabinets that fit our measurements. They did not have a drop fan that was powerful enough for our stove. They did not have the type of kitchen faucet we needed (although it are available in most hardware stores). They had only two samples of laminate flooring, neither of those were the color, thickness, and texture that we were looking for and the book she showed us did not have the laminate either, although the flooring we wanted is readily available in many flooring stores. They did not have the carpet we were looking for either. After this disappointing experience, we went to our bank to attempt cancelling the credit card purchase of the membership. The bank sent notice to DirectBuy saying that we felt we had been defrauded and demanded a full refund.
On 01/13/16, I received a call from a DirectBuy customer service representative who told us she would help us if we sent our measurements and a list of the items we wanted and she would work up a price list for us. I told her we had been defrauded and were not interested in doing business with DirectBuy. I told her we wanted our money back. She said we had signed a contract and they would not refund our money. I told her that a contract based on fraudulent representations is not a valid contract. She still refused to refund our money. So I told her I would seek a remedy by other legal means. DirectBuy has hundreds of customer complaints. I have filled out a complaint form for the California State Attorney General's consumer affairs. I recommend others who have like complaints make their circumstances known to their respective State Attorney General's Office.

I will get it taken care of, but understand that this is a SCAM of gigantic proportions! I did speak to an actual member, and he confirmed that he saved about $200 on one small product over a 3 year period. Well we went to another business to look for carpet before we went to try and use our Direct Buy membership. We have not looked into the showroom before this but it was very sloppy looking with the carpet samples. They told us that they were waiting on the cabinets. The samples should go on. They did not have many samples for a showroom. They did not have the kind we were looking for. The workers there were not helpful at all. This should not happen if the company really cares at all. Very unprofessional.
Then again, they got our money so why do they need to care what their showroom looks like or how unhelpful the workers are. One said he was mainly for that direct buy travel. We also were told when we signed up a year ago that would be included but it is not. You have to pay a lot more money for that membership. The way you have to do it is too easy for there to be a problem especially when you have to find someone to install everything. First and foremost... I am Gold member who paid for the complete service upfront! So... the initial approach to lure us in with a cheap tablet and a discount dining card and $500 DirectBuy currency, should've been the warning flare! We didn't take heed because we had a older model house that could use a few upgrades and with DirectBuy's discount it would eventually become a great rental property. So we thought... The wife and I were going back and forth on what to buy first with the $500. I made the final decision while she was out of town one weekend. I went to the storefront, Tulsa, OK (which closed down their business the very next week) and ordered some Ashley furniture (3 pieces with some of my own cash to complete the order). The process was smooth, I was like "This the best thing since sliced cheese." They told me it would take about a month. The warehouse would call me when it came in.
The month came and went. So... I called the warehouse, the guy was like "Yeah... your furniture sitting right here." I was like "Is it possible to get it delivered to me? I am a Funeral Director and my schedule and the warehouse hours conflict." He says, "Great, I'll call you back to set up a delivery time, and your charges." After 3-4 calls with the warehouse manager he tells me DB won't let him deliver the furniture, I should call the HD service. I did, several times. "We will send you a email link for the payment. Once the finances are met, the warehouse will give you a call to set up delivery." Frustrated, I made the payment and kept ALL emails concerning my furniture. 2 weeks after the payment was made... still no furniture.
I've called EVERYONE from customer service (Jackie, Norma, Jan, Mike), to the Home Coordinator, (LaSett, multiple times), Team Leader, (Ken, left 3 voice messages with no return call) and finally, "Corporate" who turns out to be customer service all over again, who has me leave voice messages to the same people I've been leaving messages with in the first place. Now venting my frustrations to whoever is reading this. TRUST ME... DON'T DO IT. $5,000 I can't get back, and I wish I could.

After sitting through a presentation that guaranteed the best price on just about everything and discussing with the rep the specific items we were looking to purchase, we purchased the membership at almost $5000. We went to the showroom several times and looked through almost all of the books and never found the items that we discussed with the rep prior purchasing the membership. The rep guaranteed us that he would be able to find either the same or very similar items however that never happened. After multiple calls he stopped responding.
We were never able to purchase anything through DirectBuy. My previous complaints to DirectBuy went unanswered but that was expected from a shady company. I have been a member of DirectBuy for 14 years. I was locked into the $99 renewal until this year and based on the savings it was well worth it. I saved on appliances, furniture, cabinets, carpet, kitchen stuff, lighting and some lawn and garden. Not so much on electronics. The problem is the people that benefit the most are young just starting out, but are least able to afford the 'initiation fee'.
I have read many of the reviews here and must say, they are NOT a scam. Yes, they use high pressure sales tactics that isn't necessary. A significant number of bad reviews stem from wanting to cancel. Yes, the law allows 72 hour to rescind and they do fight you. So does buying a car and just try to do that. It depends on the dealer whether they fight you or allow you to return the car, but very few are successful. Some complaints are from store closings.
While understandable, if you bought a new car and the dealership closed, you would go to another for warranty work without batting an eye yet they refuse to drive to another location to shop. It's not like you go there every day or every week, so you could do it if you realized your savings. And you wouldn't berate the car company, you would be mad at the dealership. So be mad at the jerk that closed your close location, not the company. But out of consideration, they company could easily work something out with you. It's not like you are trying to get your money back on a car you used for a year.
I do not like the high pressure cr@p. I do not like that they won't talk about cost openly. I was in the store last month and asked what the cost was now and they wouldn't even tell me, a current member who has gone through it. I think if the people knew they were buying membership into a wholesale buying club they would be much more willing to join and have far fewer complaints. As far as savings, some of the pricing sheets are like jobber rates, some are employee pricing, and some are just negotiated rates. Some are fantastic savings, some not so much esp if you have to pay shipping and the markup(not all do). And you need to plan. Sometimes it takes 6-8 weeks, sometimes I get my stuff in a few days. Making people aware of how it works would also prevent a lot of complaints.
This house is full of stuff I got from DirectBuy and have little else I will be buying in the foreseeable future. Comparing it to Amazon Prime for $99, the $99 rate was nothing and I was willing to maintain my membership indefinitely just in case I needed something. Now that my renewal has shot up to $299 and I don't see myself making any more big purchases, it isn't likely I will renew again. I sort of wanted to so I could buy stuff for my kids when they get a house or get married, but it's just a big gamble for so little anymore. With the internet, you can get everything except the furniture and big appliances. BTW, I got my initiation fee back the first year in the savings I got on appliances alone for our new house.
You also have to realize that most of the people that write reviews are unhappy and want to vent, so it is natural that most of the reviews here are negative. And really, 300 reviews here while there are literally 100,000+ members isn't an accurate reflection of customer satisfaction. Sometimes I wish I had the time to stand in front of the place and tell people coming in for their demonstration what to expect. That way they wouldn't waste their time and if they stayed they wouldn't feel pressured at the end since they would know it was coming. But I would much rather they change their business model so that people don't get angry. Not a single person I've met in my location was unhappy. All of us talked about how much money we saved on our last purchase and what we are looking for this time. Really pretty cool when you think about it since it gives you ideas.

I contacted Armstrong again and this representative told me that the flooring I had order couldn't be glued and if it was bowing, return it, which I did to DirectBuy.
The representative at DirectBuy stated they couldn't find anything wrong with the flooring and tried to get me to take it back. I informed her no, and I ordered new flooring, which came and was installed. I had to pay shipping $187.75 to return the flooring. I paid $1,929.84 for the flooring. I requested a refund of my money, I'm still waiting and it's October 2015. My membership is up for renewal, I think this has done it for me. Potential membership buyers beware! From the very beginning, and pressured sales, including the infamous, "If you don't sign up today, you'll never have another chance in your entire lifetime... this is a once in a lifetime, per-person offer." So, a $690 down payment... and a $6,724 contract for a 3-year membership, it immediately felt like a huge mistake!
We began refurnishing a new residence (relocated to Albuquerque from Michigan) so we had several large items to purchase. Each time we ordered something, it came damaged, often not noticed until we were unloading it at home or setting it up. Each time we spoke with the warehouse, they were defiant and apathetic, as if it was our fault. One time, they agreed to "split" the repair costs - ON A NEW HEADBOARD! The dresser came damaged, too... but after so much grief trying to barter for repairs on the headboard, we just sucked it up and counted it a valuable lesson.
The real problems only got worse 16 months into the contract when a payment wasn't posted, yet they did not allow us to use our prepaid/purchased membership which was COMPLETELY financed through another company. The long-short is, for $7,414 later we have absolutely nothing to show for, we could have done some incredible decorating. If it feels too good to be true, it probably is.

The 3rd try, the price was higher than Amazon. I did go through DB process and saved $5, wow. I told them I wanted to cancel, and of course was told it was past the 3 day period. First off I have been a member since 1998 when I was renting an apt and making middle class money. It wasn't until I bought a two-family house 2 years later that I used the membership. At the time my wife was a kitchen designer for Home Depot and we got an employee discount of 10%. The house was in need of a complete makeover, we needed everything. Flooring, appliances, paint, sinks, cabinets, etc. I have found my shopping experience very rewarding and the savings have been awesome. We got solid wood cabinets for both kitchens (17x12) cheaper than the quote from Home Depot with the discount. The laminate 30 yr warranty product we got was almost 50% less than Home Depot again with the employee discount applied.
The appliances were not that big of a saving but what we did get through the club for free was a 3 year parts and labor contract for them, that made the purchase a no brainer in our book. We most recently purchased a memory foam bed with an adjustable base and saved over $1900 versus the local mattress dealer in our city. Have we saved on every purchase we have made? NO and our club salesperson told us that. I would not be a member for 17 years if it didn't make sense, hands down one of the best investments I have made.

Just like all the other complaints out there, our experience is the exact same. We bought into this scam a little over 2 yrs ago with the same high pressure as everyone else. We BEGGED the salesman to be honest with us about the savings. He assured us they had all price points and that the average blue collar worker would save lots of money. CRAP!! They offer high end product and do have decent discounts, but if you are on a budget of any sort, you will not be able to afford anything. Example: We had 2 t.v.s we needed to purchase when moving into our house. Easy, right? Wrong!!! All they offer is 3D or 4D t.v.s. And even though that sounds great, we are NOT that family. We just want your typical flat screen regular old HD tv! No big bells and whistles. So we had to go elsewhere. And that has held true for all other purchases since.
I am having the hardest time trying to figure out how this company continues to get away with this scam and there doesn't seem to be any recourse we can take against them. Is there not an attorney out there that wouldn't be willing to take on a bunch of cases as a huge law suit? You read all of the complaints and they are all the same. How does something like this stop. And now that all the clubs are shut down, where do you go from here?
Yes, they took my $5000.00 and ran with it. And I am a stay at home mom on one income. How do people live with themselves? I will never understand where the justice is in something like this. How is it that we are not protected from things like this, yet they can turn people over to collections and still get their money. As soon as we started getting billed from their creditor, we transferred it over to one of our credit cards that didn't have any interest so I have since paid for it, no collections for me, but that just means that took hard earned money out of our hands and placed it directly into theirs.
I wonder if my credit card company could help find recourse? I don't know. I just know that at this point we are up for renewal for the 3rd year, which is $198.00 and I don't want to give them another dime, but I guess I am like others who don't want to lose the $5000.00 investment in hopes that one day I can get a deal out of this... What to do??

On Sunday, July 19, 2015, we hand delivered a handwritten letter and our contract to DirectBuy at 9454 Philips Hwy Ste. 1, Jacksonville, Fl. 32256 at 11:00 A.M. and handed it to ** the receptionist at the front desk. At the time we asked for ** or ** but she said neither were available. On Friday 24, 2015, I received a letter from Beta Finance Welcome Letter - I called them and they confirmed that my contract was canceled on Thursday July 23, 2015. My 10 days for my full refund was up back on Tuesday, July 28, 2015.
My husband (Gerald) called on Wednesday July 29, 2015. ** was very rude to him and ask him what made him think he was getting a refund. And again ** and ** was not available and she would have them call him. Still waiting. On Thursday, July 30, 2015, both my husband and I called and only ** would talk to us. Friday, July 31, 2015, my husband finally got thru to ** and he apologize and said the check was processed and we should receive it by Tuesday August 4, 2015 and he will call just to make sure we have received it. No call, No Check.
Monday, August 3, 2015, I called DirectBuy's corporate headquarters and they have tried to get the owner of the franchise to resolve this matter. But all they have done is responded their email is with an email apologizing to them and saying it's being processed. My problem is nobody will call us. And they are not honoring their contract. It has been one lie after another. Starting from the first phone stating that we were getting at least a free 2 night vacation. That was not true because you have to pay $12.00 just to be able to get the paper to make the reservation and then another $30.00 -$50.00 when you make reservations.

After attending a presentation I signed up thinking it was going to be an awesome opportunity. Well, the very first time I went in to order appliances for the rehab of my home it was DISASTER!!! I walked up to a representative of the company and asked for help. He proceeded to guide me to a computer and sit me down. As I repeated myself telling him I needed his help, he saw an African American couple walk in, he turned away from me, addressed them and left me sitting there. Like I was a nobody. I am Caucasian and he is of color. It is the WORST prejudice experience I have ever experienced!!!
In NEEDING to order my appliances I ran up to the front desk looking for HELP!!! They did find someone to help me and she was helpful but I was still VERY SHAKEN by the experience!!! Then after spending almost $5,000, the major part of my order was lost and it took two months to get it!!! After all this I requested the owner to just stop the auto deducts coming out of my account for the membership. That I want my membership canceled. I do not think I can ever walk back into that place again. They think very highly of that person who degraded me and I am not important to them. Now I getting the run around. WELL THE $5,000 DOLLARS IT COSTS TO BE A MEMBER WHEN YOU ARE TREATED THIS WAY IS DEPLORABLE!!!

In the 1800's these folks would have been called "snake oil salesmen". Their whole spiel was one big lie from start to finish. Not only did we not save $ 5,000.-- during our membership term, we didn't even spend that much money there, as we found almost everything cheaper elsewhere. We were building a new home and specifically wanted Tommy Bahama Furniture, and Fanimation fans for the home. We SHOULD have been able to save the membership on those items alone, BUT when we were ready to order they said they no longer did business with either Lexington Furniture or Fanimation. We were also give a "certificate" for our third year "free". Our two years are up AND THE SHOWROOM IS CLOSED (Sarasota Florida). RUN don't walk as fast as you can from DirectBuy.

Some time in April my boyfriend and I went to a presentation at the local DirectBuy. Before we walked in I told him "no matter what they say we are not buying it." Well as you can imagine that didn't work. After the really REALLY good presentation, he fell for it and I follow. They sold us a dream! You will save money on everything you buy. You will find everything but clothes in the club. Prices are guaranteed.
Sorry to say all are lies. We went in on Saturday. Monday I sent an email that was never responded to. Following week we stopped at the club to find out they don't carry the "grill" we wanted and the ones they had go for 1000.00 and up. Now tell me, why would I buy a grill for 1k when I can get one for 400 and it's guaranteed for life? Still, I gave the benefit of the doubt.
Because we are always working, the best way for me to shop is online. Well guess what! Their online inventory is only 25% off the things they carry LOL... Ok then let's go to the club. When we get there, it's CLOSED!!! When I called they said they sent me a letter... Funny I didn't get it! But I did get the bills for the monthly membership payment. They explained all is online now. Concierge team will help. OK... let's call them. I need xyz item.
Takes 2 days for an email to tell me they don't carry it. Then I sent a list of appliances I planned on buying from HHGregg to compare prices. Well guess what, I got them $350.00 cheaper with delivery included. DirectBuy had not even quoted the taxes and delivery. DON'T fall for it! We are now seeking legal advice to see if this is a membership we can cancel and not pay as it appears we will never really use it.

I asked management in the finance department if I could get an extension on my account because I was unemployed and I was not able to pay on the account at that particular time. They stated that they couldn't honor me an extension on the account. I feel that they should have given me an extension on the account of my situation. They did honor a payment plan, but there was a lot of miscommunication between management and the finance department. I got harassed by the finance departments several times after speaking with management and I had already made a payment on the account.

DON'T DO IT! I have been a member for quite some time and I have had it with DirectBuy. Call me cheap but apparently I was willing to put up with anything to save a buck. And that's about all you save after they hit you with all their additional costs. Yeah, the price may look good, but after they add their 8% handling fee, delivery charges, and tax to all of those items together, well it's not a good deal. Most of the times you can find identical items cheaper on the internet with free shipping and no tax.
The only way to recoup your initial membership fees is if you are building a house. An everyday shopper will never buy enough items through DirectBuy to justify the enormous membership fees. Especially when you learn that more times than not they are more expensive than other retailers or internet store. But even if you are building a house I am warning you, it is an enormous hassle.
And let me tell you about their customer service. IT IS THE WORST! I have never dealt with a company that is across the board, condescending, aloof, and arrogant, as I have with DirectBuy. Every person I deal with at DirectBuy is horrible. They act as if they are doing you a favor by taking your money. You can never get ahold of anyone directly and it takes 2-3 days minimum for anyone to get back with you.
No matter how much money you spend or how long you have been a customer, the customer experience is the same; atrocious. I would never let anyone close to me make the same mistake I did. Please take my experience and learn from it. I hope by writing this letter that I can save one person from making the same mistake as me.

We had read all of the DirectBuy reviews and thought to ourselves that the negative reviews were just because those people weren't gonna use the membership to its fullest potential and that is why they felt scammed. Our initial presentation was high pressure but we resisted and said we wanted to test some items first and they agreed. We sent in our list and we were able to save money so we decided to sign up.
When we went to purchase our cabinets the price was totally different than what we were quoted earlier to sign up. So it was better for us to buy our cabinets elsewhere. So we were planning on saving a bundle vs going to RC Willey but at other specialty stores had prices compared. So our membership gave us bargaining power. And for the most part that is all it is good for. However they say you are not supposed to do that. Funny because why would they care if they pass on the "wholesale savings" to you. The answer is they charge a 8% processing fee to each order that I don't remember them ever disclosing. Which makes it better to go elsewhere.

Purchased custom cabinets. The company sent their specialist. When the cabinets finally arrived a week later that was promised, 3 of the wall cabinets were the height of the old cabinets and 2 were the new length. In addition 1 of the new length cabinets was 4" short. The base spice rack came without a face or base. Lastly I ordered crown molding and received what she termed as flat stock. When I called the specialist, she said she would be responsible for the 4" error cabinet but I was responsible for the other 3 because she sent me the drawings and I signed off.
Since I had hired a contractor for a month I asked her to place the rush order. The result: the price she provided in writing tripled when I got the invoice. I got her manager involved and not only did it take days of calls and emails but when she finally responded they pretty much screwed me. After a month of remodeling I just gave in, paid the price and had to hire another contractor because mine had another commitment. The headache dealing with this company is not worth any savings. If you order furniture and there's an issue, it takes an act of congress to get help. Good luck if you want to return something.

Also, they didn't tell me about the 72hr period to cancel or the seminar was on a Friday!!) It was partly my fault since I was too optimistic on the scale of renovation or purchases I would make in the next few years. My advice is join ONLY AND ONLY IF you have planned to do a BIG renovation project. You should go with an ESTIMATE of the items you WANT to buy and DEMAND to do a comparison of the prices. Also, you should know that most items are top of the line so you could end up over budget. All in all, it was a VERY COSTLY lesson that I have not repeated ever since.
P.S. Recently, we were invited to a "cooking seminar" that was a pretext to have us buy a line of high quality cooking items. We ate the meal that was cooked and then said NO to everything they offered (free items like a vacuum cleaner, free interest, etc.). I WAS PREPARED!!!!

I have been a member of Direct Buy since 2006; I paid $3,100.00 for an 8 year membership and $150.00 a year after that in Maryland. I made my money back in my first project renovating my 2 bedroom+ Den 1 baths condo in 2007. In 2008 I redeveloped a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom duplex in Washington D.C. into a 2 bedroom 2 full bathroom triplex. To do this under budget I used a combination of Direct Buy, eBay and other online whole seller/retailer. During this time no one was better than Direct Buy with quality kitchen cabinets and appliances for great just at little over MRSP. I purchased 3 whirlpool tubs discontinue model, that was $200.00 per unit less than any other competitive model out.
I have notice a change in the last two years. I could never reach anyone and would never receive a return call when I leave a message. When I go online I found that their prices was no better than the big box store, Costco/ Sam's Club this was not always the case. When I call the main office Indiana I asked one of the customer service people did they change their model. I was told they will match anyone's price. I stated to her "that is the question I am asking you." Direct Buy never had before to match someone else's price, for the quality of merchandise you were receiving. Earlier this week I learned that my local showroom in Southern Maryland has closed. Now that they are in the travel business, they are definitely going thru a transition in their original business model. Unless their product prices stabilize to be wholesale/a little above MSRP, this will be my last year of membership.

They sell memberships that supposedly allow you to buy items directly from the manufacturer. But when you go to buy items the selection is small and the prices are either no better or higher than what you could get if you look around. Most items have a long lead time and are not able to be returned. The long lead time is due to the fact that there is no distribution center. Remember that they do not sell anything, they are just taking your money and allowing you to contact their group of manufacturers.
I went to their group sales presentation and we were promised a $100 dining card. And a vacation package. Both of these really have no value. The dining club card lets you use the $100 to buy discounts at different restaurants, but you can get the same or better deals by just finding a coupon. Some of the deal that you buy with the card are the same that are available for just going to the restaurant. The vacation card is also a scam. You must pay fees upfront to even start the arraignment process. Don't waste your money, just go online and buy from someone that you can get a refund from if things don't work out.
Anyway, I bought a very overpriced membership. Knowing that I have 3 days to cancel the contract. I charged it on my credit card, knowing that I could dispute it if need be. I went home and started to look at things I could buy through their club website. Most things I looked at were cheaper and available immediately somewhere else. Remember that some of their items you must pay shipping for. I can do better than that on my own.
The next day I canceled my membership in person. I was uncomfortable with the way they had no forms to cancel, just write on this blank paper that you wish to cancel your membership. This sounded too easy for them to say that they never got any paperwork from me. So I had the employee write void across my contract and sign and date it and give me a copy. 16 days later I'm still waiting for the refund on my credit card. The owner tells me that their credit card machine is broken and they are waiting for a new one. I just put a hold on the charge with my credit card company. Then they tell me that they have credited my card, but I did not see a credit on my account. When I went back and looked at the receipt they e-mailed to me. There was no merchant info and they were offline when they printed my receipt. They can't even operate the credit card equipment.
What a joke of a company. Don't even waste your time at this place.

Either you pay the membership fee of almost $7,000 or leave; there may be a 3 day trial period after you commit yourself but that's not enough to determine if this Direct Buy works for you. We left and went to brunch happily not handing over almost $7,000 to this buyer be aware scheme. You can always tell how a company is run by the employees they hire. Reception/check in - this should be top priority. The lady at check-in was a total idiot; so in reading the negative customer service reviews on the internet and meeting this idiot, so far the negative reviews are correct. Do your homework. My fiance and I were invited to a presentation in March 2002. It was a bit expensive for us, we were a tad skeptical during the presentation, and they put on a fair amount of pressure. Started to seem unpleasant, but we were getting married the following month and had just started building a house, so I could see the potential. I wanted to join but my fiance wanted to think about it. He told them as much and we left.
After a few days, we called back and said that we were interested in joining and they were happy to assist us. In the years that followed, we built two houses using DB for the majority of it and saved well over $80,000. We have ordered everything from tile, carpet, appliances, whirlpool bathtubs, windows, to bread machines, organic baby mattresses, furniture and dishes. I did not use them for my cabinetry because I wanted those built on site. Our experience has been wonderful and it has definitely been worth the money spent. Just one quick example, I have a huge Five Star double fuel range that I never could have afforded without DB. It was worth the sign-up fee alone. But there are two things that I would like to mention that really stand out.
First, we lost everything we owned in a fire in 2013. I had to compile a list of all of our possessions for the insurance company and the first thing I did was call DB and tell them what happened. They immediately printed out a list of every single purchase that I had ever made, which included the purchase price. It was so incredibly helpful, you cannot even imagine having to write down everything you have ever owned from memory and they made my job incredibly easier during such a difficult time.
Secondly, I will share a story about the house that I currently live in, which was still under construction at the time of the fire. We had just had the stainless steel Frigidaire Professional side by side refrigerator and freezer unit with trim kit delivered and waiting to be installed, when the fire took place. We lost it in the fire and immediately ordered another set. It is a beautiful addition to my kitchen and worked very well until one year and five days after we moved into our house. The refrigerator just died one afternoon. We called a Frigidaire repairman who looked it over and said that it was most like a factory defect. Frigidaire said that the warranty period was only one year but they would send a free part, however the labor was on me and that was going to be about $500.
I was quite upset, being that we were not even a week past the warranty expiring, the repairman saying that this was Frigidaire's fault and that this was the second set we had purchased in less than a year. Now, I realize that it isn't Frigidaire's fault that I had to buy another set after my fire, but at that moment, I was just frustrated with the whole situation and called ** with DB. He worked with corporate and they convinced Frigidaire to fully repair it with no cost to me. I have read the other reviews and I am so sorry that all of you were unable to be associated with the Tulsa location. They are fantastic and we are incredibly pleased and grateful.

We bought a lot of things for our new home but only came across a couple that would save us 100-150. It wasn't even worth the trouble to order it from them and wait for it and if it's not what you want you're stuck with it. After you give them your money they turn into different people, not helpful at all! We gave them 3500.00 and never saved a dime. Even if I saved 200 dollars on 16 things I would only break even and go through all the hassle. They only give you 72 hours to cancel...what does that tell you, especially if you purchase their contract on a Friday, you are basically screwed!!?
I am writing this to warn others. I only wish I wouldn't have bought in to the B.S.!!! We were instructed to tell them if that decide they don't want to do it they had to leave the showroom because it’s a private club and they wouldn't be allowed back later. Everything they say to you is scripted. As a customer service rep I thought I'd be helping people. I wasn't comfortable talking people into committing this to their credit cards if they expressed it would be hard on their budget. I know I had a few days to cancel after we joined, but I was unable to do my research as I had to go out of town. I have offered many friends the opportunity to buy from them through me, but they have always found a better price elsewhere!! I am surprised they are still in business. They rip off a lot of people, that is how.

I was attracted to the offer of a free Android device and restaurant gift card and actually scheduled a visit to the local Direct Buy show room to listen to their presentation. Then, on the day of the presentation, I read the criticisms online, including this site, and did not go to the presentation. In further research I found that Direct Buy is not technically a scam - you do get a product and/or service for your money. However, it's marketed in ways and has features that make me uncomfortable with joining, including the high sign-up fee ($5000), the 8% maintenance fee and the no return policy.
To be fair to Direct Buy, you may be able to save money on expensive home renovation projects, wedding needs, baby room furnishings and expensive vacations. In fact, the Direct Buy website does not advertise any other product such as electronics or small appliances. If you're looking for those items, go elsewhere. At best, Direct Buy is niche marketer. At worst, it's a company that tries to market to everyone, even if they don't need what they sell, and uses questionable tactics to do so.

I was invited to a "Town Hall Meeting" from DirectBuy by mail. I have a DirectBuy Merchandise membership already. This letter from DB stated that I would be able to attend this meeting and discuss the new member program and how improvements were now occurring to the member benefits. The meeting took over 2 hours and during the 2nd half of the meeting the presenter ** offered and presented a DB travel membership upgrade. The presentation posted that average discounts on accommodations for members to be roughly averaging 30% + below all the big travel sites such as Hotels.com and Orbitz.com, pretty much across the board on his slide show.
I just tried my first booking with DB Travel, which I purchased at the meeting at the Residence Inn, in Roseville, CA. on February 26, 2015. However, I just tried to book a nice hotel in Monterey with DB Travel. I found out the hard way that these savings were quite exaggerated and incorrect. I had the Hyatt Regency in Monterey, CA on Hotels.com posted on my screen for around 190/night. DB Travels price was about 10% less, even with my discount points figured in. The presentation portrayed about 2 1/2 times that discount pretty much across the board on the slide show.
They also pressured me by stating that if I signed up for this upgraded membership that day, I would receive an additional 1500 points. I have not been credited those points yet. This $2000+ initial cost and extra yearly costs are exorbitant and ridiculous to charge member who will only get a pitiful percentage of discount on accommodations. AAA or AARP will routinely get me the same percentage discounts on travel. This program is a scam and his presentation was hyperbolic and false.

The franchise owner won't even call me back to discuss my problem. Terrible customer service! I purchased a membership from the Atlanta franchise because I was remodeling my kitchen. The staff overbooks and didn't remember what I told her so all the plans were off and if there are any mistakes, it's all on you. They don't have a design program so they email to the cabinet maker for them to create the plan...a lot of room for error. After going back and forth, bunches of emails and meetings, I finally gave them my money and waited for my cabinets.
Three weeks later, I'm told the cabinets are out of stock and that it would be 5 months until we could get them. I was able to get my money back for the cabinets AFTER multiple phone calls, emails and calling the corporate office. I went to another custom cabinet maker and got my cabinets for the same price and the contractor fee was lower since he didn't have to assemble the cabinets. I tried to order a sink from DirectBuy and there was a 6-week delivery time. I ordered one on the internet from another company for less and free shipping that arrived within 4 days.
DIRECTBUY IS A SCAM!!! They get their profit upfront from you when you pay the membership so they don't really care about customer service and the price and delivery time isn't what they claim. I'd never do this again. I've tried and tried to order items on their website to get some benefit but always end up with some problem, either delivery time, price isn't competitive or can't find the same product. Much of what they want to sell you is out of date.

A representative got our number from our business listing on Craigslist. He was extremely pushy and condescending. He said they were opening a new DirectBuy in Bothell, WA and that they were looking for good business minds like me to take a tour of their new site in Bothell. We would be under no obligation to buy anything. They would not ask us to sign anything. They just wanted our feedback. In exchange, they would gift us a 7-day, 6-night cruise to the Bahamas. All expenses paid. It sounded too good to be true and I said so. He said they just really wanted us to feel like our time was respected.
I let him know that I had looked up the business reviews for DirectBuy and that all the posts complained about being bilked out of thousands of dollars and that their promised vacations never came to fruition. His response to this was that "no company is perfect" and I should trust in this new site as they improve their company. I told him to take me off his call list. He argued back as I hung up.

After signing the contract and getting myself into debt thinking that the end result would be beneficial, I found out the product in question was NOT even on the list. I have been a member of direct buy for 7 years now and I have to say if you're building a house you will save money if you have the time and put in the effort to save. So when I heard they opened a travel division I thought GREAT! Not so much!!! I got the call from the travel consultant who explained to me I would get a free 7 day cruise a free 4 day cruise and a free resort 7 day certificate. I thought wow that sounds great. I told ** the consultant that I had the week of school spring off and he said, "No problem. There are so many options to take that week."
Well that was a lie cause when I went to book my "free cruise" it wasn't free! They only offered carnival for the cruise line that was "free" and all the nicer cruise lines weren't free. Oh and they wanted to charge my 4 year old son $1500 to take on the cruise with us. They promised me a free cruise out of NY but of course when I went to book it that "free" cruise turned into $2800. Not so free!
I then tried to book a resort in the summer but the resorts looked old and dingy. They are "free" for a reason! No thank you! If you can travel last minute and you don't have children this program may be good for you but otherwise I feel taken advantage of and lied to! I lost $500 of my hard earned money that I could have used towards a vacation! But at least I didn't loose the full $2500 that they wanted. Lesson learned.

My wife and I joined DirectBuy about 1.5 yrs ago here in San Antonio. We were informed at the time, that if we moved to a location that didn't have a showroom, we would be able to get out of our membership. Well, we didn't move, but they did. We received a letter in the middle of January letting us know that the showroom in San Antonio was closing within the week. My wife is pregnant and we had ordered a crib which we had already paid more than $50 in shipping and handling on.
The crib had already taken too long to come in, so we were very upset to hear that our package would be delivered to a place 40 minutes away instead of the DirectBuy showroom. Since that time we have been trying to cancel our membership due to not receiving the service (product) which we signed up for. It took from January until today to get a hold of the person that customer care told us could handle cancellation of our membership. His name is Kris and he works out of the Dallas showroom. When we finally got him on the phone today, he was rude and refused to cancel our membership even though we are not getting what we signed up or continue to pay for.
He claims to be one of the former owners, which is sad. We had been trying to get a hold of him for about a month. I don't see how it's legal to charge people for a service (product) they don't receive And didn't sign up for. Don't waste your money on DirectBuy. Amazon Prime is a better deal with more options and better customer service. It also costs 1/12th of what DirectBuy membership costs per year.

I was reluctant to purchase a membership but we did. First experience was I was looking for a built in electric fireplace. I found the one I wanted for a reasonable price. I called DirectBuy to compare prices as their prices weren’t listed on the web. A few days later I received my reply (after the one I was going to purchase was already gone). I thought I would give this a try as I paid a ton for the membership under pressure at the store. We made the purchase from the store and after three or so weeks I received a call that the item was in. My wife picked it up. She double-checked the paper work and the paper work was correct. The item was the wrong item. They did send the item back for the correct one and gave a $30 gift card for DirectBuy that expired in 30 days (joy) for my troubles. This takes too much time and isn’t worth doing so I requested a refund as I was NOT HAPPY! NO JOY!
I tried again after we had a town hall meeting in Memphis TN. I was notified our store was closing the day it closed (SCAMMED AGAIN). The town hall meeting I requested a refund again and presented an example of APPLES to APPLE COMPARISON of a product purchase from purchase to delivery. I was informed that DirectBuy would beat that by 10% (electronics). I said really?
I found an item on sale that if I purchased it would be delivered to my home white glove delivery for a grand total of $1769.00. I emailed DirectBuy to see what they could do and they didn’t price match the price I found as it wasn’t a factory authorized retailer. I found the same item at a factory certified authorized dealer for $1799.00 including white glove delivery.
DirectBuy responded after the sale was over and did match the price of the item but wanted to charge handling, shipping and tax bring the item to approx. $1996.00. Only after several emails did they offer to lower the price of the item by 10% but the person I spoke with told me 15% and even after all of this the price of the item plus other charges shipping, handling and tax was greater that the price I had intended on paying. I am not happy and still requesting a refund as I feel this is a SCAM.
The lady during our conversations said they would not give a refund as they do their price match. WRONG this is not a good value as they try to make you believe under pressure. I have tried to contact the folks that made the assurances at the town hall meeting and they will not return my emails either. I am not happy and I am angry about DirectBuy. I was also supposed to be given a key that if it should unlock the safe I would win a car and the 25k would be in the car.
I should expect however to spend 90 minutes in the store to receive their spill. I told the lady it was a 120 mile round trip drive for us and that I would be very upset if this was a hoax. Well I am very upset. We drive 120 miles and spent 90 minutes listening to their spill, paid someone to let our dog out while we were gone. The dinner card they gave us we are supposed to register on our computer says null.... the vacation or airline voucher says it has already been registered. There was never any mention of any key for us to try in their safe and trust me the only money talked about was the money we would pay them and how it was going to save us money.
We had informed the woman on the phone that we had no interest whatsoever on purchasing any product or membership and were only interested in what we supposedly had won or were eligible to win. My wife and I visited a few times prior to Christmas but had decided to put off buying till after the new year. But I needed some tile to finish part of my project and DB has told us they have local merchant agreements where you can go to their showroom, pick out your products and then order through DB.
We visited the tile merchant on December 18th, picked the tile we wanted and called the local DB showroom. They told us that the store was closing that day for good. And that we would now have to do all our shopping on line. This is just three months after the sales guy told us that DB had been in business for 43 years and that they would always be right there in Birmingham when we needed them! That their nice showroom and helpful staff would always be available for us to come in and shop at our leisure when we were ready to buy all that nice new furniture. My wife likes to shop fabrics when buying furniture and the show room had a lot to choose from.
They said that they had sent out notices that the store was closing but I didn't get it till after I called them to complain about the closing. I called membership services and complained that they were in breach of our contract . The lady was nice and submitted a request for refund of my membership payment. I later received an e-mail from them stating that my request had been denied. (Now there's a shocker! )

I paid over $4000.00 in membership fees, I am willing to sell it for $200.00, if I find a buyer that is. I truly feel ashamed that I let some sales person fool me at a cost of $4000.00.

First things first, they have the worst customer service in town. Their agents are mainly incompetent. You get 3 different responses from 3 different people and you need to struggle to get any help from them when you are trying to find or read to understand their outdated and in many cases catalogs containing merchandise that is discontinued. Next, you need to wait much longer than the date set by Direct Buy before you receive your items. Lastly, the price they quote you is about 20% cheaper than any retail price and then you buy the item and receive a whopping shipping and handling cost that increases the price beyond retail. You may think..... "Then why the hell did you ever join"? The first couple of years were decent but then everything became super expensive including their annual membership fee. Imagine last year I paid $220 tax included and this year the new fee is $299 before tax. Why the increase for a company that gives you absolutely nothing? Stay away and pay retail. I have bought many things in stores while a Direct Buy customer because I found I got a better rate by just negotiating with the establishments.

To see that 19 out of 20 reviews about DirectBuy are negative is nothing more than a confirmation as to why I no longer work there, or a member there. I worked in sales for over 2 years for DirectBuy, I cannot tell you how many different occasions that I experienced where potential members wanted to do a price comparison and I was told by management to make a number up to get the sale complete, and obviously the reason I had to make the number up is because DirectBuy's number was always higher with the exception of some high end furniture, manufacturer's high end outdoor furniture, some lighting, and most of the time, cabinets. The problem is people going through these open house tours are told they can buy everything through the club with the exception of food and other perishable items. Another blatant lie is people are told not only do they carry "that manufacturer's products", but they carry everything that that manufacturer has. In fact a coworker of mine purchased a membership to buy high end furniture. He was told by management go to the local retail store and select what fabric he would like.
That local store offered over 300 different fabrics, DirectBuy only had access to about 30 to 40 different fabrics for that manufacturer. As for my personal potential purchases that I wanted to make when I had my membership, never worked out because I was able to find everything cheaper online. Including leather recliners, dress shoes, Bulova watches, and flat screen televisions. As an employee in the sales department when you are not doing an open house tour, you are required to go through newspapers, online ads and create the sales ads that the directors show you. When you go through the open house tour, of course showing those with a flattering third person story followed with a closing question, "Now if that were you, could you see how the club would benefit you?" At least 7 out of 10 people that I would sign up immediately had concerns and were unhappy. I often went to my manager struggling with my beliefs and what we offer. His response was always if they do not get screwed here they will get screwed in retail anyways, so who cares. After hearing that for the hundredth time I made the move to walk away and find a morally sound job elsewhere.
Again now that DirectBuy can no longer afford national advertisement in commercials, they are limited to this third party mail drops where they offer free incentive to come in. DirectBuy for the most part was designed to help families save money on high-end items. Begging people to come in for a refurbished tablet is not their clientele. But they do not mind telling you whatever it is you need to hear to close the deal. I have personal experience and personal access to know for a fact over the last 3 months the DirectBuy club located close to me have been out of tablets over that period of time. But yet they still continue to make those mail drops and bring people in. I don't understand from a franchise owner's point of view how that can possibly be good for their brand. If they are willing to lie to your face in the process of their first impression...... you have a lot to look forward to.

I read so many complaints and I cannot believe it. I have belonged to the Long Island location since 2001. We paid $3100 for a 10-year membership. There were no annual fees. Saved $20,000 just in kitchen cabinets! After 10 years, we did not continue as we redid every room in the house. In 2013 they offered a price of $299 per year. Great! Bought new mattresses, new leather recliners, and saved over $1000 after delivery. The Long Island owners want to retire and are looking for their own replacements. If you do your own research getting make, model, color, for items you wish to buy, you will get them at cost.

So they "temporarily" closed the only store in my area and decided it would be an acceptable solution to just upgrade my online access to a higher grade. It's acceptable to DirectBuy, but not to me. I'm furious. I want to cancel my membership. I signed up at the store in my area because of the store in my area. They closed it and even though they say it's temporary, I see this as a breach of our original agreement. They don't. I called and complained and told them I want my darn account CLOSED and my account CANCELLED. They emailed their response.... because my contract was with the franchise owner, Direct Buy can't offer any cancellation or refund options. I wish I'd never heard of these people. They are horrible and it is impossible to cancel the contract even if they screw you out of a store location. It's like they are a cult, not a business.

I have to say that shopping from DirectBuy has been a great hassle all along. These are the reasons not to get membership in DirectBuy:
2. The services in the club are slow and inefficient.
3. Once when we were picking our order, the person who wanted to deliver our grill was very disrespectful and yelled at us.
4. The number of mistakes they make in their orders is unbelievably high. Apart from wrong orders, the delivery is often wrong as well. Once we ordered hardwood and they gave me wrong material which delayed our home improvement.
5. They claim less expensive goods. Most of the items after adding service fee and shipping fee are more expensive than any other retailer.
6. If you order any goods online, you usually receive it within few days. The average time to receive orders from DirectBuy is more than 4-6 weeks (as they claim) and most of the times more than 4-6 months.
7. If you decide to cancel your order, it takes one or two full business days of phone calls and emails to cancel it. When you receive your cancellation notice, it takes more than a month to receive your money back.
8. The customer service is the worst. I called their customer service. The lady who responded was eating when talked to me. Then I called their customer advocacy number. They answer each of my questions with "hi, I understand your question" and when I mentioned I want my refunds to be processed ASAP (after almost one month delay), they said they have done their part and the club should do it. Instead of addressing my concern she was trying to defend the company and what they did right, while a simple apology could calm the situation.
9. The clubs are not related. So despite what is advertised, the services cannot be easily done in other branches. We bought some appliances for our vacation home. Although home delivery was an option, the destination club denied it and mentioned we have to place our orders in their club to be able to process the order for home delivery. This means more cost for delivery from the club to our home.
We have significantly regretted our decision to pay for the membership (a huge lump sum and annual fee) as the service has been not even close to what we were promised.

I have seen some reviews from people over the years about free gifts and not saving thousands right away. I have been a member for 5 years now. Even as a renter I have been able to save a tremendous amount of money through the DirectBuy program vs traditional sale shopping. If you get into directbuy to save your membership in 2 years well that's just ridiculous. It's a reason it is a lifetime membership, because it is a lifetime of savings. Now when it comes to prices on some things during Black Friday on electronics, the savings is marginal. But when the price is the same or lower than directbuy they have ALWAYS adjusted their price to beat the retailers price by a minimum of 20%. But then again if you don't let know that their price was beat how can they adjust it.

Me and my husband went to the showroom and sat through the presentation. The way they got us there was a scam, let's just get that out of the way first. They offered us a "$200 gift card" that turned out to be "savings vouchers, not a gift card" as promised. In order for us to gain the $200 in savings, we would've had to buy 28 $100 pre-paid gift cards of our OWN! What they do is every time you buy a $100 prepaid card, you only pay $93.... hence why it would take us 28 to gain the savings. Furthermore, don't buy into the "free cruise," or the "free airfares." What they DON'T tell you is the airfare only covers up to $400 of a ticket, whereas they tell you on the phone the entire ticket (x2) are for free.
There ARE also black-out dates, whereas the salesmen will tell you there are not. They ALSO told us that for the cruise, all we would have to do was pay the taxes. After getting home, we looked into it. Not only do you have to pay UPFRONT when you choose either the cruise or the airfare, you have to pay your taxes, port fees, AND what they call a "processing fee" anywhere from $200-$350 per person! That, my friends, is another ticket right there and a B.S. charge! Last thing... in the presentation, we were told we had 18 months to use these benefits, but when you get online and actually look, it's 14 months.
So, let's move along to the presentation itself. Very experienced, and friendly lady who did an excellent job. However, there were inconsistencies there as well. First, you have a membership fee that most people would probably break into payments... over 3 years it would equal $5490. After that, we were told that the yearly renewal fee would be $299. Period. Well, that's not entirely true either. From years 4-10, that IS the fee. When you reach year 11, that fee becomes open to whatever they may choose to make it.
They also charge you an interest fee if you make payments, which they don't review with you. After I'd signed, I saw it was nearly 18%. That was no one’s fault but my own, which is WHY I'm trying to stop someone/anyone else from making the same mistake. Last thing, I purchase very specific name brand purses, which I was told they have available through them direct to us. NOT TRUE. Anyhow, buyer beware. They want you to make a major decision in 90 minutes for a reason. They will also use a sales tactic on you called the "takeaway." Which basically is when they tell you what a wonderful offer they are giving you, but it's only good for that one night. That is B.S. and I guarantee if you are truly interested those salesmen will be blowing your phone up trying to gain your business.
I don't doubt that they probably have some good deals, but after sitting through it, unless you are going to be doing some major renovations, or purchasing all new furniture for your home, it would take you several years just to regain your investment money. Good luck! You have 3 business days to cancel, and remember to get it in writing! When I went in, they tried to take ALL my paperwork back, contract included. I had to ask them for a copy of the contract, and have the manager sign and date that she received the cancellation request. Otherwise, I'd have had NO PROOF that I cancelled within the allotted time frame.

Make sure you compare equally. We bought lights, dining table, custom living room furniture, game room stuff, home theatre, appliances, patio furniture, cabinet hardware, doors, door handles, glassware, art, decor. Saved from 25-55% after including shipping and I compared to lowest online price. I really don't understand the dislike unless you buy your furniture at Walmart. We got a Direct Buy Membership around 2012. lt was a difficult decision for us, because I am on Disability and with my Wife's job, we are on a very fixed income. After telling them we would have to think about it, they said "You need to make a decision today, you can't get this deal after today!" We hesitated, got pushed more and eventually signed!! Now, we can't seem to access the online catalog very easily!! We haven't been in the showroom since 2012! We have only communicated by phone, for products that WE have found OUTSIDE the store!!
I'll try to make a long story short, I inquired about a riding lawnmower, after ours was stolen, along with a trailer, spreader, canopy and cover. I had Direct Buy see if they could get a better price on a package I had found at Sears. Direct Buy told us they can beat it by 10%. They DID have a lower price, however, that was before a 6% "maintenance fee", that I was NOT told about!! After Direct Buy's fees, tax and delivery charge, the Sears mower and accessories was about 560.00 LOWER than DB's.
2nd, We looked into a Amana washer & dryer and my Wife wanted a stove. The Washer & Dryer could NOT be priced matched, because they had different model numbers, even though they were the identical Brand and features. We ended up buying the Washer & Dryer from a LOCAL store, that only has ONE location. Direct Buy couldn't even beat them!! My wife's item, the stove, was better priced, with delivery and setup from Best Buy!
To this day, we have never bought ANYTHING from Direct Buy!! We have now given to their damn finance company over $2400.00!! We cannot cancel the contract!! We recently had to get a second car because our other one died. We HAD to stop paying Beta Finance and it's going to go into collections!! They have started calling us an average of twice a day!! The only thing I can think of doing besides Consumer Affairs, is going to our local News Consumer Channel and filing a complaint, or seeking Arbitration with Direct Buy, (according to their contract).
The ONLY thing folks, that Direct Buy is good for (that I have read), is helping those who want to do some serious home improvement, that HAVE the money or can get a $25,000 or more bank loan!! You then would be able to do, let's say, a full kitchen remodel, with floors, cupboards, countertops, appliances etc.. or to buy a whole house of furniture and whatever else they need!!
In the catalog, for example, there is a Weber-type, round, charcoal grill for around $1000.00!! Seriously!! An outdoor patio furniture suite (pictured out of something like George Clooney's or other multi-million dollar house), for $6000.00!! Where's their budget stuff?? Don't tell me Walmart either!! I would like to be able to stop Beta Finance from their collections, lowering our credit scores and to be able to seek restitution for being lied to by DB and not just the Class Action Lawsuit amount of $500! Hope this helps anyone thinking about Direct Buy!

On 7/31/14 I placed an order for furniture. I was charged the very same day & it is now 10/6/14 & I have still not received my furniture. I paid $6,000 for the membership to the Fairfield CA club. Since that time the club has gone out of business & my home club is now in Mountain View CA. I have never placed an order before 7/31/14. At the time I joined, my husband & I were planning on renovating our home. Then my daughter went off to college & we thought we would wait until she finished to undertake such an expensive project.
This year I was billed a renewal fee of $224 from Direct Buy. I thought I would place an order to see if the prices were really that much better before renewing the membership. After I placed the order, the shipping estimate was 8/29/14. I thought that was a little long but since we already paid the $6,000 I thought I should follow through. So I placed the order & noticed that on the same day, my credit card was charged 7/31/14. The furniture had a decent price - not as good as they had led us to believe, but better than the local store could do. However the shipping charges were $496.01. I have never paid this kind of delivery charge for anything I have ordered, ever.
Well it is now 10/6/14 & I still have not received my furniture. The delivery company says they called me on 9/11 but I was out of state. Then I spoke to them on 9/30 & they said the furniture would be delivered 10/5/14. I told them I needed it sooner & was told they would call me back within the next 48 hrs. That was on 9/30/14. I still have not received a call back. DO NOT EVER JOIN DIRECT BUY. They are unresponsive and a total ripoff. Their "customer advocates" are a joke. They do nothing to advocate for the member, they just refer you away. I am filing a complaint with the internet fraud complaint center.

I have been a member for over ten years and joined when the membership fee was lower than I understand it is now. My original membership was in New York State and I joined because we were going to do a major kitchen remodel. DirectBuy claims to have lower prices than retail stores. It depends on the type of product. As I was in retail management with a national chain at the time, during our initial visit I looked through some of their catalogs and zeroed in on some of the products I sold and knew the cost. I had to say that, with products having high markups, I could actually purchase something at DirectBuy for a little less than I could at work using my employee discount (which was not negligible) but on other products the discount was not that great. We did join and proceeded to plan our kitchen remodel. What I have always told people about DirectBuy is, if you're a Walmart shopper who buys low end products, DirectBuy is not for you. However, if you go high end on products that are not heavily discounted, you can save money.
DB had a kitchen planning service provided by the cabinet distributor that involved a home visit to measure before having the kitchen designed for us. We even took them up on an offer to visit their showroom in New Jersey which obviously dealt with people building those "mcmansions" of the time. We saw a variety of cabinets and made a choice, then sat down with their designer to work out final plans. The materials were delivered to our home and we had the a high-end kitchen with top-of-the-line cabinets installed for thousands of dollars less than we could find at local dealers, even with "sale" prices.
After moving to Tennessee, we started going to the Knoxville showroom and did a gut job on a bathroom using a planner they had in-house (not unlike the planners at major home centers) and had the job done by a local contractor. Though we had not used our membership in recent years, we more than paid for the annual membership dues with our savings on cabinets, hardware, accessories, etc.
Now, here's where our complaint comes in. When we moved to Tennessee, there were two showrooms in the eastern end of the state, Knoxville, about an hour away, and Chattanooga, about 90 minutes. Not long after we arrived, Chattanooga closed. After a year or two we were told the Knoxville showroom was no longer a franchise but was now being run by corporate until a new franchisee was found. They also stopped selling memberships for a while, but that operation started up again. It should have been a red flag. Earlier this year the renewal cost went up and we didn't really want to pay that much so dropped the membership. We no longer got their magazine and were unable to log on to the website.
Recently they started contacting us offering a free year if we reactivated our membership. For two years the cost was OK and we had decided to renovate our kitchen and another bathroom. So we renewed by phone which got us a new issue of the magazine and access to the website. That is when we found they had closed the Knoxville location. When I contacted them about that, their response was to happily inform me I had access to their "convenient" showrooms in Nashville (about a two hour drive) and Memphis (5 hours). And, of course, I could shop online. So now I am in the same situation as so many other members across the country as the company continues to close showrooms (our original showroom in NY closed shortly after we left) and tells members they can use their multi-thousand-dollar membership to drive two or three hours (if they're lucky) or shop online.

We have belonged to DirectBuy for over 20 yrs. Since we bought our membership so long ago it was much cheaper than today's price. Over the years, I have hardly used the service because my style is more contemporary than the club initially offered. Since the advent of the internet, I have only found a few items that have been cheaper at DB. Also, whenever there is a sale on furniture, it is almost even with the DB price. I bought a couch & chair at a local store which was only $100 more than DB's price but I didn't have to arrange delivery. I also felt if there were problems, the local store would be more apt to cover the warranty without any hassles. I actually came out even before the increase of the 8% service charge that is now policy. Also the renewal has increased to $299 per year.
I came out even last year because of an entertainment set I bought. Although I really only saved $100 with that purchase because it was available on Overstock with white glove delivery and no shipping charge. I had to pay extra to have it delivered, along with their 8% upcharge and their shipping charge--there went the savings. I must say in the past I paid for the membership with the discounts received for window shades for our home & some Mikasa dinnerware but that was before this 8% upcharge. We put in a new kitchen last year with granite countertops. I was able to have a carpenter make custom cupboards cheaper than even Home Depot. They were better quality than those offered through DB. I tried to buy the backsplash tiles from DB, but found a place online that had the tiles much cheaper and without tax. The same with the sink, faucet, & range hood. Also -- they didn't have the style I wanted.
This year they offered more incentives--I could have a whole family membership for $900 for the year. My family is not interested. They are bargain hunters & seem to find good local deals. I will not be renewing my membership this year.

After watching the paid actors give testimonials, you are taken to the showroom floor where you are not allowed to look at pricing nor investigate to see how you could benefit. Once they know you are not buying, they become rude.
I was told it was rude to whisper during the boring, monotone 1.5 hour presentation after a full day of work. If you want my money, show me the benefit to me and not just have some paid actors tell me why my hard earned money should be handed over. The second one didn't even identify them by name - there was simply a return mailing address, which I figured out was for them. I've written 2 letters to the Texas Attorney General's Office complaining about their mailings. Since I'm a DIYer and buy all of my home-improvement products at Home Depot, I've never felt the need to attend one of their presentations or buy a membership. However, I can tell you that reading all of these complaints confirmed my suspicions - they have a business model based on deceit and high-pressure sales tactics. It's amazing to me that they're still in business. I absolutely refuse to spend my $ with ANY company that promises me anything that they can't explain clearly, calmly, and in writing! So, over the weekend, the DW and I attended one of their open house presentations. Originally, we went there because of the free Android Tablet they were willing to give you if you sit through their sales pitch, but I'll get to that in a bit.
The sales pitch was the typically dog and pony show. They showed a presentation, giving the history of the company and so forth. The presentation was supposed to include "real price" comparisons of their products versus leading retailers. When they first mentioned they'd be doing that I imagined that they'd have a laptop connected to the internet and they'd do actual real-time price comparisons from retail sites and their site. Not even close. They had pre-selected screen captures of products, showing the "highly marked up" retail price, and then they showed their insider DB price. The same thing was done when we walked around to see the few items they had in the showroom. None of it was real-time price comparison. Don't get me wrong, what they showed was nice, but any person with some sense could see something was not right.
They touted this whole "no hidden fees" thing throughout the entire speech. It wasn't until I left and went home that I realized that for every order, DB charges a fee, upwards of 8% of the total, that goes straight to their pockets. This was after being told that the ONLY way DB makes money is through membership fees. I guess they forgot that other fees that they charge you when you actually order.
As far as actually ordering merchandise, everything you order is done via catalogue. They're organized to an extent, but I can easily see one having to set aside an entire afternoon to get some worthwhile shopping done, seeing as you'd have to comb through pages and pages of massive catalogues.
The membership fees... I was completely shocked to see the costs. They have two types of membership fees, the Gold and the Platinum, which were $5k and $6k, respectively, for the first 3 years, with the option of renewing each year through "year 10" for $299/year. Of course they offer financing, with a hefty interest rate, if you can't afford to pay the entire membership fee up front.
The sales person did seem somewhat truthful in saying that their club didn't offer certain items (e.g., clothing, shoes, computers, etc.) because those things change too often, and the mark-up at retail stores isn't major so there would be no benefit of having those products offered at DB. They also mentioned that the savings margins were highly dependent on the products, with appliances offering the smallest margin of savings (less than 17%) versus other things, such as "high end" furniture. I explained to her that I know our family's spending patterns, and the stuff that she mentioned that they didn't carry is mainly what we spend our money on.
(Already) Long story short, we declined the membership. We went to the front (all the while having to endure cheap shots from the sales lady) to get our free Android Tablet, which turned out to be this crappy, cheap plastic, generic, tablet which won't even stay on for more than a couple of hours, even with a full 100% charge. We got the Restaurant.com $100 card, which to us is pretty useless because we don't even go to the restaurants that are offered. We got a $500 travel card, which I'm sure will turn out to be useless in some way.
All in all, it was a lousy experience. The free "goodies" they give you for going are worthless and it was a waste of two hours on an otherwise pleasant Saturday afternoon. As others have said, they don't let you think about it, or even reconsider if you want to come back a few months later willing to spend several thousand dollars that very day.

Not only that it took standing for about 45 minutes while people just walked by me not even asking if I needed help. I had to finally ask to be helped even though I had an appointment. Waste of my time!!!!!!!!

A contract was signed on the 22nd of August 2014, Friday for a Direct Buy membership. On the 27th of August, Wednesday, I attempted to utilize my 3 day cancellation rule granted by Texas law written into your contract as to what is known the cooling off period. You refused my cancellation and denied my cancellation due to saying your store was open on Saturday, making Saturday a business day, and that I was a day late to cancel. Normal business days recognized are Monday-Friday 9 A.M-5 P.M. The contract does not specify business days. Furthermore, your location is not open to do business other than to receiving on Mondays, as your members only showroom is closed Sunday and Monday. I have been advised by my attorney at Riley and Riley, Attorney at law that it indeed was a valid cancellation and I will pay no further dues and I hereby demand a full refund and cancellation of the contract. If this cannot be resolved we may enter proceedings with the American Arbitration Association (AAA) or my attorney. Any further questions can be directed to myself and my attorney.

I read with interest many of the comments about DirectBuy and must say I have not had any of those experiences. I have been a member of DirectBuy for 19 years. I joined in Portland, OR and transferred my membership to the Houston, TX location. Of course, the membership was quite a bit less expensive in 1995, however, I saved enough on my very first order of window treatments for my new home to cover the membership costs. Yes, I researched three other "discount" type companies and they could not compete with DirectBuy.
You must be an informed consumer. Not all products at DirectBuy will be as low as what you can buy elsewhere - especially electronics (due to the small margins). Many, many times I order products online because I can get the same or a similar deal and I don't have to wait for a delivery. I guess you can find dishonest sales people everywhere but our DirectBuy salesperson readily admitted that not all of the products had the best prices. She encouraged us to shop around before buying.
I am about 3/4 way through remodeling my home. Many of the products were ordered from DirectBuy and many more were ordered elsewhere. I used countertop, tile and wood flooring contractors that are on the DirectBuy contractor list. I was not required to use them but I used them because the discounts I received offered me better prices than the other bids I received. I could have ordered the countertops, tile and wood and selected my own contractors as well. Thus far I have saved over $20,000 on products and labor using DirectBuy than I would have otherwise.
With proper planning I purchase Christmas and Birthday gifts for friends and family. I just make sure I order in plenty of time. The owners and customer service staff at the Houston location are exceptional. Over the years I have had to inquire about a few things. If I don't have a response that day it is always by the next day. I have had many, many opportunities to shop in the Houston location and I hear the sales counselors explain the program to prospective customers. I have never overheard them being deceitful to a prospective customer. Quite the contrary. Many times I've heard them say that DirectBuy is not for everyone.
The bottom line is you have to be a smart consumer. First of all, do you have plans to make a lot of purchases during your membership? If the answer is no then DirectBuy may not be for you due to the membership costs. Secondly, once you become a member be a smart shopper. Shop online and compare.

We compared truck tire prices with a local tire shop/exact match with DirectBuy’s prices, i.e. Size, brand, style. The local shops price was about 20% cheaper. We paid cash to be a gold member with DirectBuy and don't make a lot of purchases, but also tried to comp metal roof prices and local company's prices were less also. Have been extremely dissatisfied with their service also. When I confronted them about it, they asked if I had proof. I told them I paid too much money to be a gold member, to have to do all the footwork myself. Very poor customer service after sale. :(

We were told as platinum we could use the $2000 for travel the first year, then $1500 each the 2nd and 3rd years. I set up the travel account, was told, "You could not use it for air travel." Our salesman Wayne had even looked up a flight for us and said we could use it for travel. It was a lie. I still don't understand what the $2000 is about. Don't even go near Direct Buy. We finally got the regional manager trying to cancel and he said "you only had 3 days." First we had heard that. They have pawned it off to Versa Finance. I am angry.

A couple years ago we decided to redo our kitchen, and went thru Direct Buy, deciding to give them a chance, buying into the commercials of getting 'the best deals'. I was skeptical because their sales pitch was so vague, and I hate the idea of buying a membership w/o getting any kind of quote for what it would cost us to redo our kitchen thru them, but they said that we had to buy a membership THAT DAY and wouldn't let us go home to think about it then come back to buy. (Weird, right? First red flag.) So, we took a chance.
After getting our kitchen planned out, everything had to be ordered in, a minimum of 2 weeks because they've nothing in stock in their stores (understandable). Second red flag - the couple who owned this location (in Mississauga) had zero design experience, and were working with a generic computer program for a floor plan. 2-3 weeks later, we found out that THEY ordered about a half dozen parts that were wrong, so we had to wait another 2-3 weeks for the right ones to come in.
Third red flag, which we found out only at this time, we had to use THEIR contractor who was charging 3x more for labour than one that was recommended to us by a friend. Had we known we had to use their contractors, w/o knowing price, we wouldn't have gone. They don't guarantee work of course going thru our own contractor. We went with ours anyway.
A kitchen remodel should (SHOULD) take no more than 3 months. Maybe 4. With them, because of all their delays and unprofessionalism and mistakes, our single kitchen remodel took nearly a YEAR. That's a year with having to wash dishes in the bathroom tub, no access to a stove, and a partially finished kitchen. Yet another red flag: their 'warehouse pricing' deals are for the highest end items only. It would've cost us just as much, if not less, to renovate our kitchen thru Home Depot or Ikea, and it would've been done in less than half the time. To even finish our kitchen, for things like knobs and a lazy susan type cabinet for our corner, we ended up going thru Ikea and Home Depot anyway, because their full price regular retail items to finish our kitchen cost half of what Direct Buy was charging for their deluxe designer high end 'cheapest' items.
BIGGEST RED FLAG: their customer service is **. We'd often call to find out where our items are, where the status of our order is because we'd wait a month at a time, and we'd be put on hold and left there with no one answering. We'd have to take time out of our schedule to physically go down to our Direct Buy office to deal with someone, and even then we'd be told that it was our fault that there were delays, even though it was all delays based on their misordered parts.
There isn't a fiber of my being that doesn't despise Direct Buy, and neither DH nor I would ever recommend even considering Direct Buy for anything. Their service is **, and I'm having a hard time believing that they're anything but incompetent scammers.

I have been a member of DirectBuy for over 10 years. I've tried to at least save enough money to warrant the fee of membership. But every time I try to make a purchase through DirectBuy, I run into road blocks. For example, I'm looking to purchase a hot tub. DirectBuy has some HotSprings spa marked at very good prices. However, I wanted to do a wet test before purchasing. HotSprings does wet test but if I go in for a wet test, I can no longer purchase through DirectBuy.
The DirectBuy website states that you must call Watkins Manufacturing before going to a HotSprings retailer. Watkins is the manufacturer of HotSprings spas. Well, I called Watkins to schedule a wet test and he said that as a DirectBuy member, I can not do that. All I'm allowed to do is add the spa to my cart and check out and pay, without ever seeing the hot tub in person or being allowed to sit in one. So, I will be going to my Jacuzzi dealer for a wet test tomorrow and I will be purchasing a Jacuzzi hot tub for the same price as the DirectBuy one.
Here is another instance. I wanted to purchase granite countertops for my house, so I went to DirectBuy. They told me which retailer to go to. I went to the retailer and let them know I was a DirectBuy member. She quoted me a price on granite, which turned out to be the same price they were selling to everyone for, absolutely no discount. Then when it came time to pay, I had to pay in full upfront, instead of the normal half down, half when the job is completed .
So I said to her, 'Let me get this straight, because I'm a DirectBuy member, I have to pay on full upfront. I get absolutely no discount on the price. So, I'm actually being punished for being a DirectBuy member.' She said, 'We gave you the bathroom sinks at a $20.00 discount.' Really??? I would rather pay the extra $20.00 dollars and have the privilege of paying half upfront and the balance when the job is completed. Especially since they couldn't give me exact amount of the completed and they did end up owing me money in the end. It took me 3 months to get the money they owed me.
I could go on and on with stories like these. Warranties don't mean anything when you purchase from DircectBuy since most companies aren't willing to honor them because you didn't buy from them. I have not even saved enough money in 10 years to equal the price I paid for the membership. Don't join.

First, their website says over 1 million products for you. FALSE. I have not seen close to a million products for me, nor in our price range! You have to sign up the day you visit the club or your banned for seven years. They entice you by telling you how good and great the products are and how they can save you money, but they never told us about the hidden cost that they say there is none, NOT TRUE! THEN, try getting out of the contract that you were roped into by the a high, high pressure pitch that if you don't sign up today, you can't join for 7 years because we don't want you telling retailers you can get a better price with Direct Buy.

We were invited. It was an "exclusive" invite. It would not be offered again. We were "selected" and would be fools to ignore such an offer. We were offered free gifts just for attending. So we did. And we were alone save for one other couple, who were dismissed immediately due to the fact that both of them were in between jobs. So my wife and I got a private showing. Lucky us. It was a hard sell - a very hard sell; after which we were told that we'd have to make a decision, a decision that cost us nearly $5000 on the spot with no time to consider the "offer". But we needed things, things like new living room furniture, and a new roof on the house, things that would save us big were we to purchase them through Direct Buy. So against our better judgment, we joined.
People, when that voice inside of you speaks, you'd do well to listen. We didn't, and we regret it. The free tablet turned out to be this crummy little off-brand tablet sized PDA that barely worked. It was substandard and difficult to use, and not worth the effort, much like Direct Buy's entire business model. After all, who buys furniture without at least sitting in it first? We looked for furniture, a new dishwasher, flooring, a water heater, and several other important household items, including roofing material. Yes, Direct Buy was in bed with a local building materials firm, and we could save big there, too. It turns out that the place they were in business with was a small outfit that catered to contractors, had little to choose from without having to place orders, and had no one who cared to actually talk to me about my needs. And any purchases we'd be making from Direct Buy such as furniture, would come with enough shipping costs to easily offset any savings we might derive from using them as a buying source.
Then, a few months ago, we received a letter in the mail stating that our local Direct Buy had lost its lease, and would be "temporarily" closing its doors. We're not sure if they're open or not at this point. In short, we have derived absolutely nothing but a large debt from joining Direct Buy, and we have no plans on using them in the future. It was an expensive lesson to learn. Were anyone to ask us if Direct Buy was a good idea (which, of course, they cannot, since they'll be forced to make a decision on the spot), we'd tell them to keep their money, and forget about Direct Buy completely. They are a total ripoff.

I purchased a membership because the presentation sounded great because I was planning on doing work on my house. A few later days, my son loses his job and I knew we were not going to be doing any work since he helps me out. I contacted DB directly at the place I bought the membership and he told me at first he could not help me because you cannot cancel contracts. I explained my situation again and then he came back and said he would work on it. I only heard from him twice that he was stilling working on it but in the end nothing got done.
I didn't make a payment and I got harass from Beta. Then I contact the main office and their customer service is horrible. They told me it was nothing they could do and I had to contact the location I purchased from. I tried calling back and no one returned my calls. I tried to purchase things to somehow justify my membership, but every time I research items, I can find the same price locally and most of the time the price was cheaper due to the outrage delivery fees they charge. The one thing I did buy was a mattress and I was shocked how bad the warehouse people are. They make up delivery prices and takes forever to get you your items.
Please save your money and buy locally. I am struggling with paying this membership. I know contracts can be broken. I also asked them if they wouldn't cancel my membership if there was something they could do to help. Nothing. It is a shame they are ripping people off. Very poor customer service and horrible place to do business with.

Expensive chairs purchased. Delivered at Gaithersburg store with nicks the manager described as looking like "insect burrowing" and which I (+ a mover I brought into review chairs independently) said were from transportation damage. DB sent email to mfg saying customer refusing delivery. Are these characteristic of the wood or defects (suggesting mfg wouldn't get paid). Warehouse employer indicated with this type of "damage" mfg always claims characteristic. I contact Company selling chairs and retailers all of whom agree no chairs are sold with these nicks/indentations/ insect burrowing. DB won't put in a claim for transportation damage.
I am looking for a law firm to handle a class action claim against this franchise as I understand it happens repeatedly. I would never waste my money again on an annual fee much less a membership fee + should have purchased it directly from the Company (Michael Thomas) which is high quality. This process of getting an email back not addressing that there were nicks indentations not variations in color (which are characteristic of wood) is a scam IMO and giving the Company (Michael Thomas) a bad reputation. DB then tried to create a "storage fee" threat to induce me to accept furniture that was damaged. Beware!

While we were listening to the sales pitch we explained that we lived in a trailer that needed a lot of fixing up... bathroom, bedrooms, floors..etc... he said "sure you can get a tub to fit your trailer.. no problem... " BULL.. nothing in the book fits our trailer. We would have to do a complete renovation and make the bathroom fit the tub. Not what he said... cannot locate anything that I can afford to put into a "trailer" without sinking many thousands of dollars. My husband and I purchased a DIRECT BUY membership this past January from the Greenville SC location. We listened to the sales presentation closely. Most things sounded too good to be true but we have previously had a Uniway membership so we knew the wonderful possibilities a club like this could deliver. Our next purchase was going to be a computer. The salesman told us in our presentation we could save ONLY 20-30% on these items. Even APPLE computers. We were shocked.
We also clarified with him during this one on one meeting about things he had brought up during his presentation such as Tempur-Pedic mattresses and Keurig coffee makers. YES! Substantial savings on those so we purchased a membership. My husband went there to get a computer and we were told we can't get those items and no one discounts APPLE! So I then pick out my Tempur-Pedic mattress and go to DB to order it. Guess what! Can't get those either. Nor can you get Keurigs. I was furious. I specifically cornered the sales rep on these products because I wanted to make sure I didn't misunderstand him in his presentation. He was actually here from Charleston SC to TRAIN other reps.
While I was at the store, I spoke with the owner's mom. She helps out there sometimes. She said her son would make it right for us. Most likely give us DB dollars. No one ever followed up with us. They did say they would give us 20% off a computer if we brought in a receipt. When we go back to the location and everyone is always GOING to talk to the owner and get back with us. It never happens. Then I filled out a DB survey and received a phone call from Amy. This was the first she has heard of anything and she was going to get with the owner and call me back the next Tuesday. Promised she would.
Well about another month goes by and no word from Amy despite me leaving voicemails for her. She finally calls back this week and explains she has had issues with her voicemail and didn't know I was calling and what could she help me with! Seriously!!!! So I bring her back on board and guess what? She is going to get with the owner and call me right back. She didn't call that day but did the next and said there was nothing they could do since I had purchased my membership in January. WHAT!!! I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING SINCE I GOT THE MEMBERSHIP.
Needless to say, I am furious and have absolutely ZERO plans of dropping this. I want a full refund for my membership. We were lied to about products offered by DB and it doesn't make a difference to me if the sales rep was from Charleston or Mars. He represented this location. The customer service here has been anything but service. I can only imagine what would be going on if I ever had an issue with something I ordered.
I do not appreciate the way this location has taken my hard earned money based on lies. It is as if he had to lie to get us to purchase. Then the way this situation has been ignored despite repeated attempts by us to get this resolved by this store has made me never want to deal with DB. It is 2014 and I didn't know businesses still operated this way. It has been like a time share operation for the 80s. Make no mistake, I am done with DB. I want a full refund and I will NOT drop this matter. The only reason it has taken soooooo long is because I have finally gotten a response from the owner.

We have only been customers of Direct Buy for less than 6 months and I would be remiss to say its been a great experience. We joined because we are building a new house and were promised deals upon deals. Well, the deals have been there.....what hasn't been is the customer service. Order dates have gone unaddressed, orders have been lost, items have come in wrong and when done so, the agents seem not willing to work on "making it right." I just ordered $3,000 worth of Whirlpool appliances. I got a call from the trucking company to confirm the delivery address. It was wrong. When I tried to rectify the problem with the trucking company, they advised only the "order placing center" can change that. When I called Direct Buy back - I was informed the "vendor" wouldn't allow changes to the order. It had to be delivered to the address of record for our account. Well, I looking back, when my wife placed the order, she noted the wrong address and asked to have it changed. The email we received back from the sales rep @ Direct Buy was "we can change that once we know the order is in route."
This is not the first time this has happened with them. Placing orders with a representative has been horrendous. When ordered from online.....it comes in just fine. Comes in as advertised and as requested. The ONLY issues have been delivery dates. DO NOT TRUST WHAT YOU READ about when you get your stuff. If you want it early......order it REALLY EARLY. Don't order something a week from someone's birthday or a big party you are having or any other major occasions. We have been told it would be 8 -10 weeks and we got it in 1. We also have been told 3 days and it is still 5 weeks.
Direct Buy offers a HUGE selection of items. The items are quality items and as advertised.....but when dealing with Direct Buy.....it's been nothing but hell. We have had to, on occasion, deal with the manufacturers directly and they in turn have been GREAT to work with. Many don't know of the issues with Direct Buy, but make it right anyways.
So if you want to gamble....Direct Buy would be a great place to venture into. If I wasn't building a new house, I probably ....no, I wouldn't have ventured into the investment. They are all nice and smiles when you go through the "tour" but now that we are in.....they don't smile as much. Good Luck and BUYER BEWARE.

I have been a DirectBuy member since 2009, first in Newtown, then Norristown. Although I have had some good experiences with the franchise, my patience has grown slim with the poor customer service I continually receive. The staff is not helpful or knowledgeable on product information and the only time things go well is if there are no issues with pricing, defective products, refunds, etc. They ignore your phone calls, e-mails, etc. and they do not advocate for you with their vendors should there be an issue.
Lately I have experienced inaccurate pricing quotes, or that the deep discounts they supposedly get, do not apply to certain items. They also charge a handling fee for every purchase made, so your bottom line cost is significantly higher than their advertised DirectBuy price. It has been very disappointing and it appears to be getting worse the longer I maintain my membership. I will most likely not renew and I would not recommend any newcomers to the program.

On the afternoon of Friday, Jan 17th, my husband and I spoke with Mr. ** with the DirectBuy sales team. He lead us to believe that we would get a 10 year offer for $3900. We both were skeptical from the beginning, but with much pressure Mr. ** claimed to go into a back office and get approval from a manager for us to get the initial $4990 3 year deal for $3900 for 10 years. Neither of us were interested until he claimed to offer $11,000 off vehicle purchases with this program. He then said my husband must bring photo ID within next 72 hrs so that he can complete contract.
The very next day I called several car dealerships to ask about “DB” discounts but all said they thought it sounds fishy because they don’t make up used cars 11K. I walked into DB facility, Monday Jan 20th on 3780 Riverchase Village, Suite 800 Bham, AL 35244 to cancel in person and was told ** was not available to speak with me because he was with clients. I left my name, email, Hm #, cell number, as well as all my husband contact info with the receptionist ** - no one called. I then called the DB office and spoke with office manager **, who claims cancellation may take up to two weeks. I informed her of all that transpired and she said, “Yes Mrs. **. You were given the wrong information. We cannot offer a 10 year plan for 3900.” I did advised her that I have already placed a dispute with my cc company **.
I disputed this matter with CC company Chase in January 2014. I received a letter (April 30th) stating DirectBuy will not accept dispute because contract signed even though false information given. Mr. ** should be reprimanded for defrauding DirectBuy's customers, falsely selling a service when there was no intent on delivering in the truthful manner sold. His commission should be taken away and he should also apologize to my husband and me for the frustration and aggravation caused.
