What is PayPal Credit?

PayPal Credit is a digital, reusable credit line that can be used to shop online. Known for offering customers the ability to “buy now, pay later,” PayPal helps customers budget in a straightforward way. Because it obscures all personal information when you shop, PayPal is widely considered to be more safe than using a traditional credit card.

How does PayPal Credit work?

With PayPal Credit, customers simply connect their bank account to their PayPal account for secure shopping. While shops must accept PayPal in order to get payment, it’s becoming more ubiquitous across the nation, with millions of stores already accepting it online.

PayPal also offers a few additional benefits when shopping online, like reimbursements for return shipping on certain purchases and purchase protection programs.

PayPal Credit card fee

PayPal Credit does not charge an annual fee for service. All purchases over $99 receive six months of no-interest financing. After six months, interest rates apply. For new accounts, the variable-purchase APR is 23.99% at the time of publishing. No interest will be charged if you buy and pay off your account within a month.

PayPal Credit FAQ

What credit score do you need for PayPal Credit?

PayPal does not indicate what credit score is required on its website.

Does PayPal Credit affect your credit score?

Yes. Because PayPal is considered a line of credit, your credit score will be impacted. Your credit will also be checked for approval.

How do I access my PayPal Credit account?

For management, you can access it via app or on the website. If you’re trying to pay for something using PayPal Credit, you will simply check out using PayPal (if applicable) and select PayPal Credit as your payment method.

Who qualifies for PayPal Credit?

PayPal doesn’t offer information about minimum requirements for approval.

Still have questions?

Is PayPal Credit good?

PayPal Credit is a good option for people who have good credit and who shop online a lot. Because it doesn’t give you a credit card number, it won’t replace your credit card, but it provides additional benefits, like security and financing, for shopping online. Most will find that PayPal Credit is a good addition to their current financial situation, but it does require a credit check and will report to credit bureaus.

Their customer service is awful. I was hung up on by two different reps. Their verification requires video and your physical driver's license. I will not use this card, and frankly I wish I never applied.

Terrible. Such an antiquated way to handle billing and payments. Let's first start by acknowledging the 30% interest rate. You can use special financing for purchases over a certain amount for ONLINE purchases only. This is fine, but when you attempt to pay off your special financing purchases, it's nearly impossible. You have to call the automated line, go through a series of prompts, get disconnected, wait on hold, try to explain to the associate what you want to do, wait 2-3 billing cycles, and hope and pray that what you requested actually pans out. On top of that, what is shown in the portal and what is shown to the associates are two different things. Good luck. My suggestion would be to NEVER use the credit card.

I wouldn't suggest getting this card to build credit. They gave me a 1500.00 limit. And was using and paying it down. Then one day I paid it down under a 1000. Then they lowered my limit to 990. And hit me with interest that went and made balance above 1010. So on credit report it looks like I went over the limit. Couple more months on I paid it down to 230. And they dropped the limit again to 230 and reported I was over limit.

I was tricked by their credit card they sent me in the mail unrequested. It said "Enjoy the same benefits as the PayPal credit you’ve been using for 25 years." It has always been 6 months no interest. They started charging me interest on a $5200 charge I made. I called them and I was told the supervisor authorized a one time only no interest period and it would take 30/60 days to show up on bill. It hasn’t so I called again and now they say, "So sorry. It was declined. Nothing we can do. We don’t care that you’ve been a customer for 25 years." On top of that I found out it’s at 30% interest rate. Are they insane. I have an 820 credit score.

There are so many things in the fine print of the "terms and conditions" that using the credit card is like walking through a mine field. If you make one misstep one does not get the 6 month zero interest like they promise. First, I used the card in a retail store. BLAM. When talking to the agent they said, Oh you have to make the purchase on-line. On-line transactions count, in store do not. Ok I can abide by that. BUT I used the card on-line (a store that is only on-line so no chance it was a mistake of retail. BLAM just talked to an agent, OH you have to go through the whole pay-pal check out process to get the financing deal. Apparently PayPal Credit is totally different from actual PayPal.!? Since some web-sites use the quick check out I am now gun shy (mine shy) of using this thing. What will be the next BLAM?

PayPal credit card would be a cool feature if it was 6 months interest free. Any way you check out and use your card - DO NOT use this card without checking out with special feature or else you will get killed on interest.

I bought a phone on October 10th, 2025 using PayPal credit, which is funded by Synchrony Bank. I have been paying every month, yet they are still charging me late fees as I had set the payment date inadvertently a few days after the due date. The phone was bought for $351.17 and to date I have now paid this full amount.

Yet, I still have a large balance of because of late fees that have been added to my account. These late fees are charges of $30 on 11/15/25, $41 on 12/15/25, $41 on 1/15/26, $41 on 2/15/26, and $41 on 3/15/26. This is in addition to interest charges of $2 on 12/23/25, 1/23/26, and 2/20/26. I did not notice the mistake until now.

However, PayPal credit has been receiving my payments every month, and should have alerted me more clearly that the payment date I set was after the due date. This was an innocent mistake I made as I was simply adjusted the auto pay into manual payments to make sure the phone was paid off in time. I spoke to customer service and they refused to waive anymore than 2 of these 5 late fees, giving $82 back of the $200. They even told me I made my first payment before a balance had ever been posted - meaning that should have counted towards the first payment due date, and every payment after would cover the next billing due date. Instead, I was slapped with late charges and interest fees I never should have had.

I am not willing to pay anymore on this account at this time, as I have paid the balance and full and within less than 6 months. The credit was given with the terms that no interest would be collected if paid in full within 6 months, and that is what I have done. I am looking for an adjustment on the remaining amount of money on my account. I believe the account should be paid in full based on my history of paying every month and that all late fees and interest charges should be waived.

Do not use PayPal's credit system. Their bank Synchronicity charges usury fees. I paid over 100% in late fee and interest charges for a payment less than 30 days late. Outrageous. An honest mistake as I did not see any reminders of payment date. DO NOT USE OR BE AWARE PREDATORY PRACTICES BY PAYPAL CREDIT!!!!
