I consider myself a pretty savvy consumer. I pay attention to my credit card statements, pay my bills on time and even pay my credit card in full each month. A few years ago I signed up for what was then PayPal's Bill Me Later. I used it several times and always paid it on time and during the 6 month promotion. Eventually my Bill me Later became Paypal Credit. I have funds deposited into my PayPal account on occasion from Ebates and items I've sold on eBay. In early December I made a small purchase on eBay for $20.70. I decided to use my PayPal balance to pay for it since I knew I had funds available. On January 16, I got an email saying my PayPal statement was ready to be reviewed.
The next morning, I opened the email expecting to see that I didn't owe anything and I was surprised to see I owed $27.70. I had no idea why. I asked my husband if he used PayPal Credit to make an eBay purchase or anything. He didn't. I logged in, looked through my account and realized it was the purchase from early December for $20.70. Somehow instead of my PayPal balance, it was charged to PayPal Credit. Could have been operator error on my end, but I was pretty sure I had selected to use my PayPal Balance to pay for this. I went through my old emails and could not find a bill from PayPal for December. Why the first bill I got was a late payment bill with $2.00 interest and a $5.00 late payment fee is beyond me.
I paid it immediately and called/emailed PayPal to see if they could waive these charges since I do not have a habit of late payments - ever. Didn't get any help from anyone. The fees were not atrocious, but it's just the principal of the thing. I don't really have a need for my PayPal Account or PayPal Credit, so I'm probably just going to close out both accounts so this doesn't happen again with a larger purchase. It's too bad PayPal doesn't have good customer service and isn't consumer friendly.

Every month I receive an e-mail from PayPal that says my statement is available and I log in using the icon on the e-mail. It shows my balance is 0.00. I think "great". I got another e-mail that said I had a balance, but when I looked at the statements, I couldn't find a charge, so I sent a message via the web portal to see if there was some membership charge that I was being billed for. No response. I look at all my statements and try to find if I inadvertently checked Bill Me Later. I couldn't find anything. I looked real hard at the web page and found a balance amount in a tiny size print relative to very large available credit and 0.00 PayPal balance. Figured out a 12.95 transaction has been getting a $5 charge added every month. Called customer service and he said since I had paid the balance online there would be no refund of the service charges. The poor ratings on this site are well deserved.

2015/11/02 On phone with HP to buy laptop, offered 1 year no interest via PayPal Credit. I said yes but after providing information was told I was rejected. Attempt to discover failed. 2015/11/14 received letter from Comenity Capital Bank C/O PayPal Credit. Rejection suggested I did not initiate the app. Sent letter back to PayPal and received 1/9, "unable to verify." Apply online. 1/10 apply online and rejected. Calling 1/11 told to wait for rejection letter (never arrived). 1/20 called today, same no information response, spoke with a manager who will manually enter info, more in 2 weeks. Bottom line is after speaking with Equifax and receiving the 28 page report, there is nothing wrong. Paypal Credit is NOT responsive to potential customers. Even if opened, will never use.

Seems to be a real pattern here with these folks. I thought my eBay purchases were being charged to other credit cards I had linked (and selected) on my PayPal account. They were put on PayPal credit from which I did not receive any statements of charges, from August 2015, until January 2016. $60 in late fees and interest were added. This was the 3rd time this has happened... The second time, in 2014, I called and asked them to close the account... They never did. Yes, I'm the fool for not following up that the account was never closed. Worst credit account experience we have ever experienced!!! Stay away!!!

I bought a few speakers for $1600+ at eBay in May 2015 and paid with Paypal. I did not pay attention to the fact that eBay automatically connected me to Paypal credit, which gave me a "generous" "6 months no pay option". I normally pay Paypal using a credit card, so I took it for granted that I did it the same way this time. Later on, I did receive a few emails from Paypal credit stating my "due amount" was zero. So I was totally in the dark and discarded the last a couple of emails thinking they were the same. Until 2 days ago (1/4/2016) I accidentally opened an email from Paypal credit and found I had a balance of $1860+ which included $230 interest. I called Paypal and the guy was very rude and refused to do anything to my account. I wanted to talk to his manager and he just left me there holding the phone for 30 minutes. He never tried to find a manager. I feel Paypal credit is nothing but a scam!

I just realized that charges were being made to my PayPal Credit vs. PayPal that takes out of my checking account. Then I found out that I was past due and had no telling how many fees! I paid and deleted my account, not realizing that apparently I cannot email them or see my invoice without having my account active. The balance was $180, I only knew of $80 I had put on there. I won't even use their free account anymore. If there is any past due, they should always use multiple ways of communication. Emails get lost! I guess I have to go back to paper billing on all my accounts.

I bought a saddle on eBay that offer the easy payment plan but when I checked out, the item wasn't under the easy payments. Called PayPal, followed their instructions and still did not receive the offer even after I told them I had a print screen of the offer. This is a scam to get you to purchase the higher priced item thinking you can easily make the payments over 18 months but then they put the transaction through for only 6 mths leaving you with the high interest rates if you can't pay off within the 6 months. I asked to talk to someone else and was put on hold only to be transferred to an ** message.

I recently was approved for PayPal Credit. I was under the impression that I was approved for $2500 to use for purchases. Well here's the scam; you can only PayPal Credit when "they" want you to use it!! I made a purchase using "PayPal Credit" with a merchant that was under a biller's agreement (which means if PayPal is your default form of payment with the merchant there's no need to leave the merchant site to finalize the payment) and being that I made "PayPal Credit" my preferred payment; I had no way of knowing that PayPal Credit determines whether or not they feel like paying for the transaction, instead they decided to use my bank account. Of course with my bills and this unexpected charged my account was in the negative.
PayPal couldn't explain to me why this occurred. They told me it was a security issue in which they wouldn't be able to tell me what that issue is. I talked to a supervisor to assist me with determining how this occurred. In nice words he basically called me a liar saying that no way does a biller's agreement not allow me to go back to the PayPal screen to verify the form of payment. So with him on the phone (and me emailing him screenshots) I showed him that once you hit place order it was finalized.
Once I proved my case, I received a slight apology and the immediate return of my funds (after I was told it was not possible) and given assurance that it wouldn't happen again; well guess what happened again. PayPal Credit determined that they weren't going to approve my transaction and was forcing me to choose my bank account!! So, why do I have access to a credit line that I can only use when the issuer says I can use it?? Paid and closed!!

Bought an item on Ebay, selected to pay by Paypal. During the transaction, it seemed different. Thought I was having this charged to my bank account. A month or so later started getting credit statements. Thought this was a false charge and ignored until I kept getting them. Tried several times to call, but wait was beyond 30 min. Finally got through, requested what was bought, and indeed it was something I purchased off ebay. I indicated I never wanted the account, wanted it closed. Lady said I would have to call another department. Fed up with what I call run around, paid the original cost of the item, then ignored. Finally got a creditor statement, I called and they answered soon. Still wanted me to pay twice what the original cost was, at this time I have refused.

When I open credit card it was showing promotion that you will have 6 month to pay by PayPal and I opened account and purchase for 1200. I start paying for 200 sometime 300 every month and I was happy there was no interest charges but when I try to make a payment 4th month I saw interest charges there and also when I click previous month they surprise me. They put interest charges for previous month too. I called customer service and they said the charges was there in first place. It is big lie.
I check every transaction before I pay. There is no way I ignore it. And bad thing is they deny and they were very rude with me and not giving me back interest money charges. Now for everyone please be careful they can mess up with your account any time and do not care about it. That is another bad thing. They put money on my credit. My credit is maxed up because of them because I do not want to pay interest because I feel it’s against my principle and I always stand for right thing. Please be careful everyone. PayPal credit do not care about customers just care about money by hook or crook.

I have always used PayPal when purchasing from Ebay. My payment method has ALWAYS been set to default to my saved bank account through PayPal. Today, I noticed my default method had been changed to PayPal credit without my consent or authorization. While I did catch most of the charges and changed it back to my prior default, several small charges slipped through. I called PayPal to complain about being tricked into using credit I neither needed or requested. They tried to say it was a mistake, "because I had probably used PayPal Credit in the past." (Way, way back in the past!!!) If I had not noticed, and since PayPal Credit does not send statements, I may have ended up with late fees and interest, which I assume was their intent in changing my set default without my knowledge in the first place.
This is the type of unfair and deceptive trade practice (see "sleazy" in the dictionary) that gives credit card companies like this a very bad name. I can't even pay the two small charges I was tricked into making because, according to the representative "they will be pending for 2 to 3 days." What a slimy way to do business. If you use Ebay, be vigilant in making sure your default method of payment was not changed to Credit without your knowledge. With compound interest for default and high late charges, it does not take long for that ten dollar charge to change to a one hundred dollar charge.

I have used PayPal for a number of years to send and receive money. Last month, as I was RECEIVING a payment, something occurred that has never happened before: a screen came up that I feel bullied me--without my realizing it--into applying for PayPal Credit, in order to accept the payment. Not only was a percentage (a "service fee") of the payment amount deducted from my account (this has never happened in the past), I was suddenly "awarded" a credit line with a "payment due."
I have called to have PayPal Credit cancelled and, because of "my" error, I am stuck paying these initial charges. So I bit the bullet and paid the damn thing. With any luck, I will have no more problems with this. For now, I am keeping my regular PayPal account and will keep my eyes wide open for further scams. I have always appreciated PayPal, but this is unforgivable. SHAME ON YOU, PAYPAL. How embarrassing.

I used PayPal to pay for an item online and was under the assumption that giving them my bank card information at the time, that the transaction would be automatically deducted from my bank account, (with no fees or late charges assessed the way it was in the past). I did not know this was formerly "Bill me later". Much to my surprise, not only did they not take the opportunity to deduct the payment out of my account, but they had the audacity to charge me an exorbitant amount of interest and late fees due to PayPal not taking the opportunity at the time to use my bank card I provided them. I did not want to pay this later, or I would have chosen to do so. Now I am getting bills from them with an abusive amount of interest accrued along with late fees. Keep in mind that I paid the original charge months ago. I have even called and asked them to Cease and Desist sending me bills and I am still receiving them. Help?

Corruption is running rampant in this once great country and PayPal is further proof of that. I'm going to put this into a nutshell. As of tomorrow, once l have cancelled my newly opened PayPal credit account, l will be dropping both PayPal and eBay accounts of which l have been a member/buyer/seller since 1993. When a credit company defaults my ready cash into ITS/my credit balance from a settlement from a bad seller that l had to open a case against, that's when it's time for me, AND YOU, to go. I cannot transfer that settlement amount into my bank because PayPal Credit automatically holds it as a credit, rather than MY OWN ready cash in hand.
Dear American readers: as far as l am concerned, that is flat out theft. OH YES, I'm sure it's in the fine print somewhere before you sign up, BUT IT'S SNEAKY. The way a hacker would come in through the back door of your firewall. I don't know about any of you, but I'm sick and tired of being spit in the eyes and told it's just bad weather. And, folks that's just part of my story. It's worse, but just as bad, and enough for me to do my shopping elsewhere and in a tried and TRUE manner.

And still got charged on my account! I was not counting on spending that money, it really set me back! A huge inconvenience!!! Another thing, you call them and they don't care nothing about you! They just say "sorry, but we can't do anything about it!" And now you're stuck with the problem. I will cancel my account this month with them! I hope they don't have anymore tricks up their sleeves when cancelling. I would give them ZERO stars but it's not possible... PAYPAL CREDIT! YOU ARE THE WORST!!!

The statement report is not clear. I thought I had a positive balance of $6 and change. It turns out that when I attempted to make a purchase, I was denied because instead, I was overdue by $150. I just paid it off. So buyer beware. Their reporting platform is convoluted. I've used it before without issues but things just got confusing the more I frequented the services. I think I may have used it about a total of 15 times between Uber, bday card, and paying friends and family.

I didn't even know I "owed" money on a trip I purchased through Paypal December, 2014, until I started getting outrageous bills, penalties, and phone calls + emails! I contacted them, NO, they were NOT nice. I thought my trip for approx $900 had been paid by my credit card. Many phone calls, letters later, I paid the frigging bill to stop the harassment, more letters from them.
They are nothing but SCAMMERS, putting your item into THEIR outrageous CREDIT (COMPANY???). I have written to PayPal a number of times, also wrote to Comenity Bank, with the address on their website. Letters to Comenity Bank, certified by me, were returned saying there was no such address. No kidding, the whole thing is a scam.
I reported them to the Better Business Bureau, and PayPal answered by claiming I had signed up for their Credit. TOTAL BS...why would I have use their credit when my credit card was linked to my account. I am done with Paypal and I think everyone should know how underhanded they are. Where is this "Comenity Bank" anyway???
Updated on 12/21/2015: I paid the $871.50 that I owed PayPal, after PayPal Credit paid for my purchase and started charging me late fees and interest that I did NOT have any idea of.I mailed my check on 9/28/15. On 10/06/15 they claimed that they had NOT received it, therefore charging me more "late fees". I closed my account with PayPal on Oct 5, 2015 for obvious reasons, they are THIEVES and SCAMMERS.
PayPal Credit CLAIMED that my check mailed on 9/28/15 FINALLY was posted on 10/17/15, THEREFORE making my payment LATE and I had to pay $15.29 by 11/06/15. I mailed a check + letters to PayPal, PayPal Credit, and Comenity Bank (their supposed LENDER) who I do not think exists, for $15.29. This was in PLENTY of time to meet their ridiculous deadline of 12/06/15. I just received another bill for $5.00. This time their claim is that I mailed it to the wrong address which made my payment late.
I have spent many hours and a bit of money mailing letters, CERTIFIED letters to all three: PayPal, PayPal Credit, and COMENITY BANK. Two certified letters to Comenity Bank were returned to me saying "no such address". Finally one WAS RECEIVED at P.O. Box 182273, Gols Ohio, 43218-2273, but I never got a reply from them. I also wrote to some idiot named Charles ** executive ??? at PayPal credit who told me, again, that I owed them $15.29 late fees. Then I received a letter along with a bill, due on 1/06/16, for $5.00 claiming that because I mailed my check for $15.29 to the wrong address, it wasn't posted in time and I now owe $5.00.
DO NOT EVER GET INVOLVED WITH THESE CROOKS! I am an honest consumer who believed that PayPal was a SAFE way to pay my bills. I had a credit card linked to this account which I thought was taking care of the payment, not this scammer Comenity Capital Bank (the lender, they call themselves) who doesn't seem to exist. Just try to find Comenity Bank somewhere. I would love to have these people thrown in jail, they just keep lying to me about my payments, so they can make some money off of me and you!

I opened a Paypal Credit account, and they gave me a starting limit of $1100. I was using this to buy goods from Home Depot, for remodeling a bathroom. Well, every time I try to use PP Credit online, or in the Home Depot store, it declines it! I called and was transferred around and finally ended up in the PP Security department. They asked a bunch of questions to verify that I am who I say I am, then told me that since I'm new to PP Credit, they will not approve my purchases.
This makes no sense!! They did a credit check, gave me $1100 to spend, and then tell me that I can't use it because I'm too new?? What did they give me the credit for in the first place, if not to use it? This is so frustrating!! The agent told me that all credit companies work that way. I've never heard of this!! When you open any credit account you get a limit that you can use immediately. So, now I'm stuck with a hit on my credit bureau record, and my bathroom is half done.:-(

I've been using PayPal Credit (formerly Bill Me Later) as a business owner and am extremely satisfied with my experience with them. Our day to day expenditures are charged to our regular business credit card, but while we were still in start-up mode, I used PayPal Credit to finance bulk purchases of materials/supplies for 6 months with no interest (when paid in full before the end of six months).
I've always treated my PayPal Credit account like a credit card, meaning I try to pay as much as possible each month, regardless of the finance promotion. Because of that, we've never paid late fees or interest charges. After 2 years, we're now at a point where we can cash-flow those bulk purchases with our regular business credit card (which earns cash back for all purchases) or even just pay with the business debit card, so we will no longer need to use PayPal Credit's 6 month financing offers. We have one last charge on PayPal Credit to pay off (about $100, due at the end of Feb. 2016), and when that is paid sometime in Nov., our business will be 100% debt-free!
As a business owner, I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to have used PayPal Credit. Over the past 2 years, they have provided me short-term loans when I needed them with no interest or origination fees - try finding that at a regular bank when you're just a start-up! With all 6 months no interest promotions, you have to be careful and budget to pay it off before the end of the promotion period. I would not recommend any of these kinds of offers to a regular consumer, but for a small business owner, using it as a short-term no interest loan can be a great advantage.

When I returned to my residency in NYC I made an effort to withdraw late fee that was charged on promotional amount (150$ charged on the amount of 310$) because of natural disaster zone. I was refused to remove the late fee. I provided travel documents along with images of the flood and documented my pregnancy (7th month) as a reason for me to fly to Charleston where natural disaster occurred. Apparently not having electricity and internet was not strong enough reason for the bank to withdraw the fee that was overdue for 2 days only.

I tried to checkout with PayPal Credit at rondomusic.com. I have >$2500 of credit and $0.00 balance which I have just paid off fully. Click the pay with PayPal button, but only my bank account or debit card are available for funding. Rondomusic customer service were unable to help and referred me to PayPal. Email PP and got a canned computerized response which was not even close to helping, so I called on the phone. The first representative confirmed that PPC was not available on Rondomusic but inferred it might be that their account is not setup to accept PPC. Emailed rondomusic back and they had already contacted PPC. "... It's hard to understand what they are saying - but it sounds like they [PPC] are denying the transaction for you."
When I called PayPal and tried to pin down the reason for this denial, I was told monotonously that "even if I knew, for security reasons, I cannot tell you." In frustration I clicked off the call while the rep was talking. They concluded that yes, I have enough credit, yes I can purchase from everywhere else, but no I cannot purchase from Rondomusic.com, and they cannot tell me why. In short PPC is denied for use as a payment option for reasons unknown, ONLY at Rondomusic.com. The purchase amount would be only $279 vs a $2580 credit line and would have qualified for promotional "6 month no interest, no payments" credit. I've used this option for three different transactions over the last year. All for under $500 and in all cases I've paid them off within 6 months incurring zero interest or penalties.
It also seems that the small business is not being supported by PPC. Rondomusic is a small business and everywhere else I've tried to use PPC is a big store. So PPC is denying my use at a small business for a small amount but letting me use it at a larger store for far greater amount. It still makes no sense. Thank you PayPal Credit for nothing.

I think that Paypal would have been a great success. They made me feel like I was given the opportunity to establish credit and required me to link bank account under the impression that I would only use what was available in my Bank. I did link banks and thought nothing of it because they told me and within 2 day I was still unsure so I contacted PayPal again and was given whatever type of explanation. So I didn't want to screw anything up and I made a payment for $125.00 and it was only minimum $25.00 due so I then asked if I could pay the following payment. They said yes and of course accepted $30.00 payment on same call. Okay I’m satisfied right? Wrong.
I tried to tell someone about this and they were denied opening account so I went into my account so I could help figure out the issue with this individual and I noticed my payment due. I took into consideration that the process of the payment was the issue and they would update shortly. I made purchases and didn’t receive items and they said I had to take it up with the seller. Well I paid for some shoes my kid needed and he never received and I could not afford another pair. I assumed again. Oh yeah my bad. It’s not PayPal’s issue cause I used my linked bank.
All in all they never used the linked bank and apparently I was using a credit line I was unaware of. I tried to take responsibility and fix the issue and apparently failed. I sent them payments by mail that were sent back to me by mail 2 months later or so, the money order receipts I uploaded. They said they were unaware of why it came back to me but send it out again and I had 10 days to send it and they would go in and as long as they were post-dated they would go ahead and adjust any issues as far as late payments etc.
I mailed it the next morning. Made another payment cause they said if I didn't make payment they would have to close the account so I called my mom and she loaned me the money cause she knows how hard I was working to Grow up and help myself. I know I’m almost 40 but it is what it is. I made the payment and I was grateful my mom helped me take care of this. I thought everything was fine and I even just made a $50.00 payment just as I was to do minimum now $35.00.
Until this last payment I just paid of$50.00 and then it would drop back to $25.00. COOL right back on track. No, apparently when I notified them of the payment of the money orders being sent back to me they had no clue why and said to send it again and they would adjust and correct the mistake. Instead they closed this account and I accepted 3 payments before telling me they closed my account and they could not answer any more questions for me and told me if I had any issues to dispute with my bank.
I am sure I left out a whole lot but they pretty much gave me credit and I didn’t know and by the time I realized I was screwed out of my money and credit. My kid without shoes. Thank God for grandma who believed me when I told all about this and bought her grandson some shoes. Paypal I thought was good but they suck.

Well sites like Macy’s, Fragrance.net and many other sites allow to use Paypal as a paying method but however when I try to use it, it does not show Paypal credit as an option. I thought there might be something wrong with the site but when my husband and son and all his friends use their account it all works fine. So why only my account has this issue and why give me credit if you don’t want me to use it.
Also no I am not gonna call you to sort this out. I emailed Paypal which is convenient to me plus they know all my transactions are being denied and it’s their fault. They have some sort of hold placed on my account. They can do it over the net. I am not gonna waste my time and call you. They will not send you paper statements, so check the statement's bottom line hidden behind the PayPal Credit link on your PayPal account summary page. Mainly, PayPal Credit allows PayPal to charge you interest, which is fine for any lender, but they get to gain an edge over banks. They've made sure they're not regarded as a bank so they can legally manipulate cash flow of money that is not theirs. When you try to pay your PayPal Credit bill, it is not instant. When you make a purchase and add things to your bill, it's instant. When you pay down your bill, even if paying directly from your PayPal balance, there is a SIGNIFICANT delay.
In fact, the money will still show in your PayPal balance as if it's still available to spend. (This by itself is misleading; even banks show you your real available balance from pending transactions in addition to your current balance.) Nothing in your PayPal account tells you your payment is pending, only the PayPal Credit payment history. So watch out for spending the money you earmarked for payment. PayPal will hold that money as long as possible in their greedy little hands and earn interest on it before applying it to your bill. This is why it takes days longer for PayPal to get money from your bank than it does to transfer from one bank to another. PayPal pretends it's in "electronic transfer limbo" longer than it really is so they can earn extra money on it.

I wanted to order a figurine on eBay using the $1500.00 credit that PayPal told me I had. After several times of trying to order the product using my PayPal credit account, I contacted customer service. I ended up speaking to five people who could not tell me why my credit could not be used. Even a supervisor could not tell me. I went back and tried again to order the product and it went through. I was delighted until I found out that they had charged it to my Visa card. I called up again only to be told that it was nothing they could do about it. Now my Visa card balance that I am trying so hard to get down is back up again. I am very disappointed with PayPal since they are the ones that pursue you constantly to apply for their credit. Buyer beware. Do not deal with PayPal credit because they do not honor their credit line and getting satisfaction is unattainable. Thank you.

Become less incompetent!!! I have called several times and no one was able to help me. My problem is still not resolved. I have talked to managers and supervisor and everyone who works at this horrible place and still no one has resolved my issue. The information that was given to me doesn't make sense. You have given me a credit line of $1700 and then told me I can't use it because I am new to the company. Also to make matters worse one of your employees told me this is how credit card companies work that you can't use the credit given at any company until you have been with them for a long time. Which is just the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard in my life, because I have a credit card with Chase and when they gave me a 1000 dollar credit I was able to use that full credit.
I understand I am new to PayPal credit and I might not be as trusted as the old users but if I am not trusted then do not give me such a high credit that I can't use. What I don't understand is why do you take my social security information and look up my credit score and give me a approved credit amount that I should be able to use since you have checked into my credit history, and then you tell me I can't use it since I am new to your company.
This is the worst company I have ever had to deal with. Even one of your own workers told me you guys are incompetent in the PayPal credit department and have no idea what you are doing. I spoke to a guy in the fraud department, I was irritated and frustrated since I was talking to your company for over than an hour already and he told me he didn't see a problem and nothing else he can do and he started to yell at me and said "what do you want me to do!!!!". This is the worst customer service I have ever received. All I wanted was my issue to be resolved, something that should have been simple turned into a nightmare.

I have had an account with Bill Me Later for several years no problem. Since merging with PayPal Later it is impossible to pay my bill online. After calling for help and 4 service reps later all I have is additional late charges which should not have been added when the problem lies with the billing system of this company. I finally talked to a rep who said they would waive the late charges so we shall see. They tried to say the problem lies in my Apple iPad, iPhone and android tablet but I find it hard to believe when I pay bills on them all the time. They said if I had a windows based computer it would work so I tried my laptop with same results.
I requested to set up auto payments and they said to make sure to check my bill to see if it was set up properly. Before making changes you would think they would have an user friendly system in place for their customers to use. They acted like I was the only one having this problem but I advised them to google it and they will see thousands of complaints for this same problem.

Well they gave me some twisted answer why I did not qualify for the 10 dollar discount which was ok, they can have it. When I got my statement online it showed no way of paying. I called them and they offered no help. My guess is they make it hard for you to pay so that you get nailed with a late fee and interest. Well I had to call several times and go through a complicated process just to simply pay my bill!! What a huuuge mistake it was using PayPal credit. Save yourself the aggravation and just pay with your own credit card. It's more secure and they will actually help you when you have a problem unlike PayPal which is trying its hardest to nail you into paying unnecessary fees.

I didn't pay attention and ended up paying $40 interest this month. I called customer service to explain the situation and they firmly refused to waive the interest. I have had PayPal line of credit for quite some even when it was Bill me Later I have a credit limit of 1,960.00 with a balance of 1,800.00 plus. Well, I recently made a purchase on eBay and at checkout I chose to use my PayPal credit. After doing the transaction I noticed that the funds had been taken from my bank account and not my PayPal credit. After realizing what had happened I called PayPal to see why the money was not taken from my PayPal credit but directly from my bank account. They said that at checkout that the way that it works is the system must have declined my PayPal credit and that the money would come from the available source which could be either my PayPal balance or my bank account. Well, guess what since I didn't have enough money in my account so the system decided to take the money from my bank account that I only had enough money budgeted to pay bills.
After realizing what had happen I called to see why the money was not taken from my PayPal credit. After explaining what had happen the representative and that I needed the funds that was in my bank account and that I wanted to use the PayPal line of credit they said that they could not reverse the payment and that I would have to contact the vendor that I purchased the item from so that they could refund the money and try and repay with the PayPal line of credit. After calling eBay and explaining what had happen, guess what they said that there was nothing that they could and that I would have to deal with this matter with PayPal credit.
Okay, so I called PayPal back. Guess what? After losing about an hour and a half they said that the only way I could get my money back is to wait until I receive the item and send it back is the only way I could be refunded the money. Keep in mind I needed this money for bills so what good is PayPal credit if you can't use it when you need. Bottom line their method of dealing with customers in my opinion is very poor not to mention I closed the account with PayPal and eBay. Thanks for giving me a chance to express my frustration with both companies.

So now every single time I have to manually switch it at check out even though it shows PayPal, not PayPal Credit as the default check out method.
I missed a payment because they never sent a statement. So I got charged $25 on July 3rd. But I paid double the minimum July 31st and noticed they already charged me another $35 late fee even though my statement doesn't happen until August 3rd. I tried to call them and got ad after ad. After six ads where I had to press the pound sign to stay on hold, it said the number had changed from my area. I called the number and it was just the number for Free 411. So I emailed. But they are ridiculous. I've dealt with a lot of companies and this one is the worst I've ever seen. Will I get my $35 back, $35 that was charged before my statement even came out? I doubt it. I am a piano teacher and a client had a series of unfortunate events and paid me late for one month. She very kindly went ahead and paid me for part of the next month as a sort of compensation. So I had $260 in my PayPal account. I made a $43 payment to my PayPal credit first thing and received a confirmation email. The next day, I went to get $45 worth of gas in my car. The pump didn't work so the teller cancelled that transaction and then I put $45 on another pump and headed to the cash machine. I withdrew a $100 cash and was charged $4 in fees. Whatever. That day my website manager took out a fee of $24.95.
Today I found out that instead of taking out the $43 from my PayPal accounts, they took it out of my bank which didn't have the funds and caused me to incur a $25 NSF fee. I figure it's a glitch so I call them to straighten it out. Nope; the $45 payment that was cancelled is still "pending" so that meant essentially $90 was taken out of my account FOR GAS. That alone should have caused red flags for this company. Two separate charges of the same amount for gas?!? Since there wasn't enough money then in the PayPal account for the PayPal Credit payment ($41.50 was left in the account) they arbitrarily decided to take it out of my bank account instead.
How can they not just say, "insufficient funds in the account; please choose another method of payment." They can arbitrarily decide to just take the money out of wherever they please? The payment wasn't even due yet! I was paying it early so I wouldn't forget. Customer service was absolutely no help and just kept blaming me for what is an obvious horrible, horrible policy. The person I spoke with assured me that he would "send a note up to corporate about possible policy changes." Don't use PayPal!

Like a few others on this review board, I apparently accidentally signed up for this "line of credit" after trying to pay with my credit card. When I was paying, they asked for my birthday and last four digits of my social (which I probably just assumed were generic security questions websites use to verify identity) and then took all my other info to make a hard credit request which dinged my credit score - apparently this is what happened anyway. This is what PayPal explained to me afterwards. I only knew I opened the account after being contacted by Equifax. When I called them and said I didn't authorize opening this account, PayPal first told me to file with Equifax, then Equifax told me to file with PayPal, then PayPal told me to send a written request which they forwarded to Equifax and it was rejected.
By the time I spoke with someone from PayPal again, they basically explained that they have an option on their website when paying to use "PayPal Credit" instead of "PayPal" which I apparently assumed was my credit card but was instead a new account request. I said this is very evidently not clear. They basically used my stored info and my stored electronic signature to authorize the request (I said this would be akin to buying a mattress and when the salesman asks if you want to buy on credit, just going and running a credit check because he already knew my credit info because I'd bought something before - I certainly don't want that.) Personally, I consider this intentionally ambiguous website design to trick customers into signing up for the line of credit.

I complained about this as no retailer or online seller has never asked for this information when using their gift cards. My complaints fell on deaf ears. I didn't want to lose the gift card, so I sent them copies of the information that was required (driver's license, social security card and utility bill). In April of this year I noticed I was being charged late fees on my PayPal Credit account. I always make my payments 29 days early on all my accounts however PayPal stated these payments were late because they fell into some billing cycle loop. I have been charged over $105.00 in late fees and interest for making early payments for the months of Dec 2014 through May 2015. I called PayPal Credit in April and was told they could give me a partial credit for the fees but that was their monetary limit in that customer service department. I was told if I wanted the rest of the money I had to contact another higher level service department in writing.
On April 14th, 2015 I wrote a letter explaining the above and also detailed when and how my payments were made. In response I got an email stating that the issue had been resolved and if I was to receive a credit it would show up on my account in the next 24-48 hours. When no credit appeared on my account I wrote another letter and again faxed it (to 1-443/921-1996). This time I received a letter in the mail (addressed to the wrong address and forwarded to me by the post office I have changed my address several times with no avail) stating that my payments cannot be made on days 4-7 of any given month due to statement cycling.

I started using this service on 9/06/14 as I have made my first purchase. I do shop on online a lot and was what I thought following fair credit act logic. PayPal Credit: does not credit returns to original transaction! In the old version site it is shown return has been received against the original transaction ** however PayPal credit applied the funds against completely irrelevant transaction. I ended with full interest rate charges still growing against the transaction ** that should have been credited.
Does not have written complete policy stating the funds allocation process. Credits returns to wrong transactions - they credited 2 returns that had "deferred" type to completely different "deferred" 1 transaction - mind you not the oldest one either which doesn't make sense as this credit didn't pay off the credited transaction & exposed the older transaction to subject of interests charges sooner where it could be paid off.
The funds allocation process makes it impossible to pay the deferred purchases first (or at least some portion of the purchase). Out of all payments I have made between first statement of 10/2014 until 5/2015 only couple of times they applied small portion of payments to few deferred transactions & not in particular order definitely not based on the age of the deferred purchases. Basically 90% of my payments did not go towards paying off deferred purchases, which is equivalent for creditor not allocating consumers payments to higher interest rate transaction first as it supposed to be done per CFPB! I spent a lot of time on their website making sense of everything & made detailed Excel sheet that shows clearly the way they used my payments & returns.
PayPal credit avoided paying off deferred purchases. I'm in deep financial trouble because of it! When I dug deeper and got to paper statements I found: online statements missing critical information. Paper statements are not even close to what you see on the website. "Classic" version of the site does not match the statements neither on version of the site consumer sees logging in & does not match the paper statements. If you use this service demand paper statements otherwise you will know that you have an issue when you see finance charges piling up! The online statements not detailed as they must be. Paper statement is the only document will show true standing & status of all transactions.
PayPal credit website does not show full information on the account & transactions status. It is impossible to know deferred purchases & actual funds allocation unless you get paper statement which they do not provide when you sign up. You have to ask I guess when you end up like me. The bottom line their system of funds processing does not allow to pay off consumer deferred purchases in 6 months unless you pay off everything as soon as you use the option which defeats the purpose of this service. PayPal credit does not allow consumer to pay off the damaging portion of the credit as they do not have a clear system or lack of funds processing standard system based on actual evidence of my account status.
PayPal credit has lack of the critical piece of information on their listed policy that I reread on the statements & their site. They do not provide instructions on all possible funds allocation scenarios, nowhere. Consumer will not even know when to be aware of issues that can be damaging to their account. Not providing consumer with clear, true information on the account in the tool they promote which is their current website (conservative won't match the statement and it's not accurate). Consumer has no ability to see the damaging factors which are only shown on the paper statement where PayPal promotes to go paperless! I have more details if needed. I will be calling them tomorrow to discuss & close this service with option to pay it off on whatever bases there might be but I will never use it again and most definitely will not recommend.

I was not at my computer to be able to check the transaction and I did not recognize the name, so I said, "no." I was advised that the account had been hacked and that I should call and alert the credit bureaus. I did this immediately. When I got to my computer about 30 minutes later I accessed my PayPal account and saw that the full name of the merchant was "America's Gardening Supply. The charge was valid. I immediately called PayPal and told them of their error and that the charge was valid. Since then, I have called in 10 times trying to get this straightened out. They are totally unresponsive and told me that since the account had a fraud charge, which they knew it did not, that I would have to respond to the affidavit when it arrived. It took 3 weeks to arrive.
In the meantime, I actually had my regular PayPal account frozen and couldn't even buy postage to be able to ship to my eBay customer. After a long animated phone call, I was able to get the account unfrozen, but my PayPal credit account remains inaccessible. I can't even look at the account myself to see if payments have posted or any transactions have occurred. These policies are outrageous. They actually have hidden my account from me and they have no policy or procedure that would allow them to reverse their course of action. My prayer is that when they separate from eBay, that we have another choice for transactions.
No credit card company has policies in place that operate like this. I am vigilant about my credit accounts and monitor them at least twice a week. When I have had a suspicious charge, I report it to the card company and they close that number down and send me a new card. It is simple and effective. I know this works because I have cards from Visa, MasterCard, Amex, and Discover. They are consistent in how they handle suspicious activity and disputed charges. I totally understand now why they can't even be rated by the Better Business Bureau because they have so many complaints against them.

I've used PayPal for years as the payment source for my business. Over the years I've had problems with them, but have to say, they have improved greatly over the years. I had a Bill Me Later account with them that I rarely used but did once in a great while. Now it's been renamed PayPal Credit. Okay, same thing, I only use it occasionally, usually this time of year when my sales are slow and companies I buy products from have great sales going on because they are experiencing the same thing with the slow buying season.
So a week ago, I decided to buy some doll supplies from a company going out of business that had really low prices. I changed the funding to PayPal credit. Two days later I realized they took the payment from my PayPal balance rather than charge it to PayPal credit. I normally wait till my balance reaches $500 before transferring money to my checking account and the money in my PayPal account was money I knew I'd be using for a bill coming due. I contacted them and they said they always take the payment from the PayPal balance before applying it to PayPal credit.
I asked why they would do that. If I put a charge on discover, they wouldn't check my checking account balance and take the money from there first. And besides, I have used PayPal credit before when I had money in my PayPal account, and they haven't taken the payment from my PayPal account instead of applying it to PayPal credit. The girl insisted they always do, although, looking through my account, she couldn't find where this had ever happened! Upshot of the whole thing, they will not return my payment to my PayPal balance and apply this charge to my PayPal credit, despite the fact that I have over $3000 available balance...
This isn't a credit card like you expect it to be apparently. It charges you high interest rates, expects a minimum monthly payment on the due date, gives you an available balance, yet, it's not a real credit card company??? I'm now short the money I need for this particular bill and the lesson learned is, never leave any balance in your PayPal account, and never use PayPal credit again... From now on, I will be transferring funds to my checking account no matter how small the amount, which will just mean more work for them, but hey, I'm not going to leave money in my account for them to use for free, and to make these financial decisions for me.. If you are going to use PayPal credit, beware that you will need to transfer all funds from your PayPal account before doing so, or they will take that money as your payment... Better yet, just don't use PayPal credit. Use a real charge card.

I have had my account formerly Bill Me Later for several years. I first used it so I could finance the purchase of an expensive camera. I had 12 months no interest/payments. I made monthly payments 1/12 paid each month until I was paid off. I opened to receive paper statements because it's easier to keep track of and I mail a check in each month. At first I thought it is odd that they don't report to the credit bureaus monthly as it's an open credit line but I have grown to like that fact because while I pay my credit cards in full each month to keep my credit utilization on my credit report low. I can carry a balance if I choose to make a purchase and spread the payments out with a no interest plan.
Most of the time now I just use the account to pay for any online purchases and I pay the account off every month. It seems most of the people that have issues are not organized and don't keep track of what they buy, how they paid for it and balance all of their accounts each month. And if you pay attention to what you're clicking there is no confusion as to what you are charging to which payment method. Everytime I make a purchase I clearly see how the payment is being applied. Not to mention I immediately get an email confirmation of the purchase being applied to my Paypal Credit account.
In the PayPal app under wallet I can see my account balance for PayPal Credit, due date, minimum due, and remaining balance. I always verify the balance matches what I have in Quicken for this account. They have increased my credit line several times for being a good customer, even though I have never made a purchase as large as my initial account opening purchase.

Another month went by, still no bill. I sort do research and figure out that I used Bill Me Later. At this time I saw that my balance had increased from $208 to $450. I called immediately and discovered they had been sending my mail to the wrong address. I explained to them that I had never received a bill and they agreed to waive the extra fees. I made a payment for the balance and forgot about it, assuming it was taken care of.
Today, I checked my junk mail on my email and discovered a bill for $255. I verified with my bank that I had already paid the bill and then I called customer service. The woman told me that I had never spoken to anyone at their company and that I was irresponsible. She told me my account has been sent to collections, however I cannot speak with them because they are closed. I cannot believe that this $208 purchase has turned into such a nightmare. Do not trust this company!!! It is a scam to charge you with interest and fees. You are better off paying cash, which is what I will do next time. I will be closing my PayPal account today.

But in actuality, the Comenity Capital Bank holds the money until the next billing cycle, so I cannot use any of the money I have paid them indefinitely. I have called the company asking them why I have no access to my funds, they said they can hold the funds up to 8 days. I told them that they are committing fraud then by telling me that my payments have been applied to my account... They have nothing else to say!

I have a PayPal account with available funds to use. I have used PayPal for eBay purchases for years and occasionally for a purchase from a company and have always used my PayPal balance of funds or credit card on file. In this case I have had available funds in the account for over a year. The last 3 purchases I made from what I thought were available PayPal funds were Mar 27, 28 and Apr 15.
Apparently PayPal credit was magically charged even though I had a PayPal funds to use. I received an e-mail that I owed a PayPal credit balance with a late pay and interest. After 90 minutes on the phone I finally got this mess straighten out. PayPal and PayPal credit activity statements are not customer or user friendly. I had PayPal credit option cancelled. I see that during this same time frame that many people are having their purchases being charged to PayPal credit when they thought they were using their available funds or other credit. Seeing this I would think it was paid in full and that I did not owe a balance. I received a telephone call this morning from a PayPal representative informing me that my balance is 124.00 I explained to her and two others (in subsequent phone calls) that the account showed a 0.00 balance due. It was explained to me that I was looking at the wrong information and that I had missed a total of 3 payments (which I do not dispute). I expressed my frustration over the fact that the page that shows the balance is deceptive in that in BOLD type,on the top line, a 0.00 balance and directly below that, again, in BOLD type, my available credit and 537.00. THEN, immediately below that, in a font 3 times small than the figures above it, was the true balance (credit) showing what I actually owed on the account.
While I have absolutely admitted that I owe 28.24 balance due, because of the difficulty I had with finding my current balance due easily, I didn't feel that I owed the 95.00 in late fees. I spoke with 3 operators and a supervisor and they rigidly refused to take off all of the late fees on my account. Another credit card company just taking advantage of the consumer in any way they can.

I don't use Paypal payment much - I usually leave it to my husband But this time I ordered and paid for an item using my paypal account. I thought I was signing in and paying for my purchase - just by following the on-screen prompts. What I didn't realize was that I was signing up for a Paypal Credit account. I did not find this out until I received a bill in the mail about 2 weeks later. It was only for $7.00 but I thought the transaction was complete. I then noticed the $7.00 was for a monthly reoccurring fee for the Credit account I had unknowingly opened.
I called customer service and talked to a representative. I asked for the credit account to be cancelled immediately and told her I will not be paying the $7.00 as it was not something I would have knowingly signed up for and I did not need a line of credit. After much back and forth discussion/insisting and arguing, I was firmly told that as I had agreed to their terms, been given a $10.00 credit (???) and that PayPal themselves had financed the credit (???) I had to pay.
Bottom line: The way PayPal's payment website is designed, it makes it extremely easy for a casual user to sign up for a credit account without the user's knowledge. In my opinion it is a deceptive and misleading business practice and should be looked into by some kind of consumer protection agency. I always thought Paypal was reliable and an asset to internet merchandising but I will try to avoid PayPal in the future.

Question: Can PayPal Credit take money from my linked bank account for overdue payments? Here is part of the update I received via email today. "5.4 Setoff of Past Due Amounts. If you have a past due amount owed to PayPal, an Affiliate or eBay, Inc., PayPal may debit your Account to pay any amounts that are more than 180 Days past due." Is PayPal Credit "an Affiliate?"
I always intended to pay in full my Bill Me Later/PayPal Credit bills, and I've made payments for quite some time. However, this year I had many unexpected expenses and I find that I must stop making these payments/file bankruptcy. Actually, an attorney informed me that I do not have to file bankruptcy since my income comes from Social Security disability only and is so very low. Also I have no assets, no property, no car, etc. Only my medical equipment.
Does anyone know the answer to this question? I'm quite concerned after reading all the reviews! I wrote to PayPal Credit about my decision to stop payments a month ago, and have had no response as yet. They did NOT take out a payment last month. Thanks to anyone who can offer advice/support. I have learned my lesson and if I could pay my bills, I would. I guess I got overconfident. My purchases are all cash-only from now on.

I don't even remember how that happened. The first time I saw anything about the credit was when I was trying to get an Uber with my phone and I was walking. I saw something about credit when I ordered the car but didn't really had a chance to read it, which I should. I am so mad that they are being sneaky. I called the PP to sort it out and stop the credit just to find out that I could not pay it by Credit card I had in my account. That is the credit card I use all the time for all my payments with PayPal. They are just about to lose a customer that was using the account a lot. Once upon a time I had a PayPal Account. I also had a PayPal credit account, which I believe at the time was called PayPal Buyer Credit. Quite separately I had a Bill Me Later account. I was able to log into the PayPal website to handle PayPal Buyer Credit, and I was able to log into the Bill Me Later website to handle that bill. Some time after that, PayPal Buyer Credit rebranded as PayPal Smart Connect and Bill Me Later rebranded as PayPal Credit. At the time I was receiving emails notifying me that I had statements to read. At that time in my life, I was busy planning a wedding, and I was just paying bills as the notifications came up. I was receiving telephone calls from PayPal Smart Connect explaining that I was past due. I would log into the PayPal website (the way I used to check my account), and the only PayPal credit account I had was in good standing. Time passed and the calls continued until finally I realized what had happened.
There was much confusion at that time. I spoke to people at PayPal Smart Connect who indicated to me that I could view my account statements on paypal.com. I was equally informed by PayPal Credit reps that I could also view this account and statements on paypal.com. Both indicated it was as simple as just adding the account to be viewable. I spent many hours over the course of several days trying to sort this out. Even speaking to PayPal reps directly half of them indicated I could add both accounts to my paypal.com screen, half of them indicated this was not possible. In that process PayPal Smart Connect opted to forgive one of my late fees.
I eventually gave up and demanded that PayPal Smart Connect begin mailing me paper statements. They mailed me one bundle, which I made a payment on. I received no statements after that. Quite confusingly I started getting paper statements from PayPal Credit which I paid every month. I only just realized my mistake that I'm 4 months behind in my payments to PayPal Smart Connect. The payment I am required to make just to get the account in good standing is far beyond what I can really afford at this point.
The rep offered to let me make a smaller payment but was unable or unwilling to indicate what impact this would have on next month's payment. He could only say that I'd still owe 60% of the large payment due this month and I would accrue another late payment next month if I wasn't able to pay it in full. We reached an impasse and I opted to not continue that circular argument any further. I am in no way attempting to not pay what I owe. In fact my goal was to pay off the account within the next 6 months (and never do business with Synchrony Bank (who is the actual bank behind PayPal Smart Connect) again).
The core of my frustrations is that two formerly separate credit products both used online merged and rebranded to be very similar in name, and in this modern age of technology, I am relegated to paper statements and telephone calls in order to square my account. This merger, joining, rebranding of whatever you want to call it, was very poorly handled. I can't claim that this was mishandled on purpose, but I work in customer service and I am unable to believe that some level of management was unaware that this might happened prior to the joining.
I certainly can't believe that I'm the first person to complain repeatedly on their customer service telephone line about it. They have designed an unnecessarily complicated way of doing business and are unable or unwilling to fix it. The only solution anyone was able to give me at PayPal Credit OR PayPal Smart Connect was 'Well you could close the other account and join our account to your paypal.com account', which is great advice once I pay one of them off entirely.

On March 17, 2015, I logged into my PayPal credit account to look at their weekly offers. I found an offer for HP for 18 months financing. However, when I was checking out on the HP website it only offered 6 months financing. I called customer service and was told that the system just automatically chooses 6 months financing, but I should go ahead and make the purchase anyway and I can call again to have the 18 month financing applied. A day after I made the purchase, I called PayPal credit again to request the 18 month financing. A different customer service rep told me that the payment hadn't posted on the account yet, but not worry, as they can easily apply the financing offer once the payment posted on my account. She said she would make a note on my account re: this.
On March 20, I called again and spoke with a rep named **. This time I received a vague response: he will submit the request, and they will send an email once the request is completed. I received one email confirming they received my request, and another email saying the request was completed, and that if any changes are applied, they will be posted in 24-48 hours. It didn't say whether or not the financing option was applied. On March 28, I called again, as my account still indicated only 6 months financing. I spoke with **, who said I should fax a screenshot of where I clicked on the deal. I faxed the information on March 30, 2015. Once again I received the 2 vague emails, so I called them later in the afternoon and spoke with a rep named **.
I was told the financing offer could not be applied because the checkout I used was PayPal, not PayPal Credit. She said if I had "natively" used Paypal Credit then the 18 month financing option would have applied. However, I am not qualified because I didn't check out at the correct checkout. I am confused, because the HP shopping link was on the PayPal Credit website which I accessed while logged into my account. The bottom line: they cannot apply the 18 month financing option that a week-and-a-half ago was going to be easily applied as soon as the transaction posted on my account. So now I am stuck with a $1,400 bill that I need to pay off in 6 months.
I feel that I've been tricked by Paypal credit into making a purchase that will start earning interest after 6 months instead of 18. The first two reps made it seem like as long as I contacted them I would receive the 18 month financing option. All of a sudden, a week and a half later, I am no longer qualified. Had I not been advised and assured by the customer service reps I spoke with on March 17 and 18 that I would receive this financing offer, I never would have made this purchase. Also, the vague emails they sent were not helpful at all and instead I wasted all this time contacting them over the phone. Consumers shouldn't be deceived this way. I am a responsible person; I pay my bills on time and I feel betrayed by their customer service's irresponsible comments. I have learned my lesson, and will never use PayPal Credit to make purchases again. Who knows what kind of hoax I might fall for again?

About nine months ago I took advantage of an offer by Bill Me Later which has since changed to doing business as Paypal Credit. As a consequence of my account being "automatically" paperless all correspondence with Bill Me Later and Paypal Credit was emailed to me. Apparently, as these companies were aware of and both representatives I spoke with confirmed, emails from Bill Me Later and Paypal Credit are known by the companies to go into spam email. Paypal Credit was aware their email notices would likely go unseen by a large percentage of customers. Paypal Credit was aware that customers were likely to forget due dates without receiving any upcoming notice, especially after six months. As Paypal Credit was aware of the email glitch, Paypal Credit should have mailed a paper notice to all customers with attention to this matter...instead they choose to use the glitch to their monetary benefit.
I finally received a mailed paper bill in March for my original payment due sometime in January. As I am a Paypal Credit Card customer in good standing, at first I believed the letter to be a promotion. Paypal Credit, while sounding the same as Paypal Credit Card, is a different entity. I opened the letter to see I had accrued late fees and interest charges. The timing of the notice is suspect. As I pay all my Paypal Credit Card charges in full and in a timely manner I am considerably upset by the seemingly obvious effort by Bill Me Later and Paypal Credit to ignore this issue and increase chances their customers will incur charges. It would have been a simple matter for Paypal to take steps to insure all customers are aware of glitches they are well aware of.
As a lender, Paypal Credit has an obligation to encourage positive credit practices. Advising their customers of communication issues they are aware of falls under these obligations. Choosing to ignore a known communication issue and benefit monetarily from it is predatory. This issue was and is likely to result in millions of dollars in increased revenue to Paypal. Paypal Credit is crossing the line of its fiduciary responsibility as a consumer lender. Paypal lending practices purposely orchestrated to increase revenue by disadvantaging consumers through omission deserves the attention of the regulatory commission.

I have been paying my balances to PayPal Buyer Credit rather than PayPal Credit by mistake. I do not have an account with PP Buyer Credit, but they never notified me I was sending them money OR offer me a refund. BUT PP Credit which is through a different bank, but (in their customer service's words) under the same umbrella was not getting my payments. Same umbrella, different banks, no common form of communication. AND under this "umbrella" are a plethora, probably a dozen different products, all going by the name of PayPal.
A presumed advantage marketed to the consumer with an end game of consumer confusion creating user fees of every nature. Therefore this is my complaint. Paying my account electronically my payment goes to an old PP (closed years ago). I'm unwittingly not paying the account with a balance on it and I'm getting late notice notifications. At $35 per late fee, this adds up to a tidy revenue stream for PP. Each time I received the text notification I immediately called customer service and made a payment over the phone. Aside from keeping my account current this action convince PP I am not missing payments with malice, but because of a banking problem. They don't want to hear of it, because it confusion they have created to build a revenue stream of user fees. They are purposely purporting on the marketplace multiple products with only a slight difference in name while under the PayPal brand to ultimately raise user fee revenues.
This happened to me for 3 months. No customer service representative offered assistance until the last one who actually researched the problem of why my payments were not going to PayPal Credit. It's because they were going to PayPal Buyer Credit (the account closed years earlier), rather than with the one I had a small open balance. I didn't even apply for these accounts.
I bought something on eBay and think I'm using my original account which was merely a debit card running off my checking account and the next thing I find out, I've defaulted into a revolving credit account, without agreeing to it or its terms. That IS a vital component of a legal contract! This is loan sharking with the United States legislative branch acknowledgement. I'd rather deal with a "loan shark". At the very least, they are honest about their intentions and don't pretend to be righteous in their motives. That's my grievance. I've said my piece. Next call is the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

Walmart told me to dispute it with my PayPal credit which, since the change of the name, I've been on the phone with PayPal Credit at least 7 times compared to the 0 times I had to call before. In order to dispute, you have to fill out some PDF, be descriptive, and fax it to them. Once that was accomplished, I get a letter a month later stating my dispute has been closed based on some information they didn't receive that was never asked for from me. Earlier in the time frame before this letter was in my possession, I attempted to utilize my PayPal Credit option on Uber and was denied every time it was attempted, and it was my only available option at the time.
Luckily I was able to get the cab through Uber although several days afterwards, I receive an email from Uber stating that my payment did not go through. I call PayPal Credit. After the 45-minute wait and the information of my account suspension, he was nice enough to transfer me to the department that handles such affairs and after waiting 10 minutes for them to respond, I get a lovely dial tone, and I refused to call back considering I had wasted an hour and had business to attend to.
I called back earlier today and this guy wasn't too bad but not as nice as the prior guy and was relatively eager to get me off the phone. It turns out that I now have to fax them a copy of my ID and a utility bill, which I find ridiculous given the fact I've had this account for more than 2 years now, not to mention I will also have to refile my dispute and waste more time out of one of my very busy days. They have great offers, work with many great companies, and overall I may still continue using it, but I would suggest using a regular credit card more often than not because let's say (higher power in the sky forbid) you have to dispute or worse, run into a fraud issue, a regular credit card bank will be able to help you a heck of a lot better, faster and more efficiently.

So I have had a Bill Me later account for some time now and everything has been fine until they switched to PayPal credit. On the 25th of February 2015 I called and made my payment like I always do and noticed that nothing was being taken out of my account. I called PayPal and they said the payment was returned by bank. I called bank and looked at my account and no such thing.
Called back to PayPal credit and was told the same thing but they did add that by paying with savings that the bank only lets you do so many transaction. I told them my bank representative told me that nothing from PayPal ever came through. Yes got mad and yelled at the PayPal credit person and told them I could get a letter from bank stating that this was not so but was told that it wouldn't matter. Now I am stuck paying the original payment and the 35.00 dollar late fee. This is so not fair. Something needs to be done with this company. They are really stealing people’s money.

They scammed me out of my money. It was a lie that the two accounts, BillMeLater and Paypal would seamlessly merge, and that my PayPal account would show whatever I owed on BillmeLater. When I logged onto PayPal, it showed a 0 balance and credits. After finally getting a phone from them call about some late payments, I went to the bottom of this, found out that even though on PayPal it showed 0 balance, I owed 135 $ more or less to the PayPal Credit Account (formerly BillMeLater), which became $198 after they added two large late payment fees. I finally called customer service and told them my balance never showed up, and they removed only ONE of the late fee charges! I am really mad about this and cancelled the PayPal Credit Account, l will not use it anymore. Too bad, I really liked BillMeLater.

I try to link my new bank account to pay my bill and the website doesn't respond. It doesn't tell me there's an error. It doesn't tell me there is a problem. It just sits on the page with how to enter the information from a check. MULTIPLE contacts to PayPal for 2 months now and no resolution and they don't even seem to care. Not to mention their account interface is horrible. Once my account is paid off it's getting closed.

First log into the new PayPal site, then click on "Wallet". Scroll down to the bottom of your screen and click on "Classic Site". Then click on "My Money". You should now see the PayPal Credit section and a little Bill Me Later icon with your balance info. Now click on "Update". You should be able to see your Bill Me Later balance and payment due amounts. Click "Schedule Payment" and enter your payment info. You should be good to go. Good Luck!

I applied for PayPal credit while making a purchase on eBay. It promised a $10 credit if approved. It did not mention anywhere that if you are already a Bill Me Later client, you would not qualify for this offer. I didn't even know PayPal Credit and Bill Me Later was the same thing at that point, it was not specified anywhere nor did I receive the e-mail they claimed was sent to all customers of Bill me Later. So I never received that credit and made several phone calls regarding it when it was promised they would look into it.
Finally, I was explained that because I already had Bill Me Later, they will not give me this offer. It was misleading, they should have specified in the Terms & Conditions that Bill Me Later clients do not qualify. That was not done and the offer was not honored. Poor customer service and misleading promo offer, very unhappy with PayPal Credit and already closed the account, since the only reason I applied and wasted my time was for that credit.

This service was able to charge me more than 100% of the one charge I did not knowingly make! Beware. Here are the details. I signed up for this service because they were offering me some initial incentive. I knew I would never utilize it. Last month though I received a statement saying I owed them money. When I clicked on the "statement," it came up to the PayPal page where it said I had no credits or debits so I just figured they sent a generic statement and that in fact I owed no money, especially since I knew I did not make any purchases. But this I got another "statement," and again when I opened it it said $0 balance.
Uncomfortable with this situation I spent an hour digging into the site and finally came upon a page stating I owed them $17 and change. I could not find what this was for so I called them. They say they do not list charges due to my security (yeah, right, glad my real credit card company doesn't do this). They told me it was for something I really did purchase, but as far as I knew, I had done so through my credit card. But if you know how Paypal works, it is very easy to have a charge taken from your banking account unless you know how to change that. I'm thinking this charge occurred similarly.
When I spoke to the representative and told him I thought he should remove all fees since a clear statement of charges was and is not available and I had thought I didn't have a balance. He took some charges off but still charged interest which was more than 100% of the item purchased. No wonder the top 1% has 99% of our money. Beware!

If I go to the Bill Me Later account, I'm directed to PayPal Credit and cannot FIND where I can pay my bill online. I've read many reviews already for this and everyone is having issues that were former Bill Me Later accounts. If I could afford to, I would pay my account in full and be done with Paypal. I recently received a voice mail saying I needed to contact PayPal Credit. I called them and found out that I was two months past due. For some reason, I had stopped receiving my paper statements and my email messages. The woman I was speaking to asked me to hold while she checked records. She said that two late fees had been added. Naturally, I was unhappy about this. She also told me that they only sent out paper statements if the account was past due. "News to me," I said. I stated I wanted to bring my account current. She said, "of course," and then volunteered to take off the late fees.
Considering all of the negative comments, I was surprised and pleased that they did this without my asking. She said that there had been a problem during some kind of switch-over back in the middle of last year and would be happy to fix it. They 4 stars because while this was good, the miscue and then the confusion over using the PayPal debit card contributed to this issue. Otherwise, I would have to say that the problem was resolved quickly and easily. Additionally, I was pleased that they had a customer service representative who spoke non-regional American English.

As I have done for years, I thought I made a quick gift purchase through eBay on my mobile phone. Below is a description as to my horrible interactions as filed on a report to the BBB. Sadly after reading reviews here there are other people like me who's payments just disappeared - leaving them also with huge interest and fees. I will never recommend anyone to open an account with PayPal Credit/Bill Me Later; in fact I will warn them to stay away. This is the first time I have used your service to purchase a computer for myself for Christmas. I divided the balance up into equal payments to be able to have it paid off by the promotion end date. When you look at my account from Dec '13 – 7 '14 you will see the same equal payment amount coming out. That SHOULD have been a clue that something was wrong for AUG. I went online July 26th and scheduled the last $49 to be paid to pay off this promotion. I went online "early" to pay my bill as I was going out of town for a couple weeks and the bill was due while I was gone.
As soon as I returned from my trip I was laid off. So I was very busy filing with Unemployment, SNAP, etc. As I was finishing that I noticed an email from your company saying I owed MUCH more money. When I called the first time around Aug 7th it was supposedly because "I didn’t pay the promotion off in time". I explained ALL of this and my situation to the agent who could not give a flip about my account. I explained that I had went online to request a payment of $49 be sent BEFORE my trip and BEFORE the due date and on top of that now I am jobless. I had to pay off this bill instead of food and gas.
The prior phone agent refused to see the logical evidence before him. (Why would I have paid the SAME EQUAL payment every month since the beginning and then not pay it off???) Plus I gave him specific dates and times as to when I applied for payment to be sent and when I saw the interest added to my account. I cried for days as I felt totally helpless and violated on top of being scared and hungry. To make matters worse, I had to keep paying a small amount just to stay current paying the stupid interest back I never should have had to.
I became very, very ill and no one else knew that I had a payment to make to your company. I was finally able to crawl out of bed Oct 3rd. The payment was due only the DAY BEFORE, Oct 2nd. ALL of my other companies I deal with have a grace period of longer than ONE DAY. Sure enough your company slapped me with another fine of $25 making the payment I just made basically useless. I also want to also say that if your company offered an EFT/automatic payment I would have signed up for it in THE BEGINNING and NONE of this drama would have happened.
I believe that your company did not offer this option ON PURPOSE to trick and trap other poor souls into paying for interest and fees they should NOT have to pay all so you can make more money while the rest of us struggle. That being said, after crying and wondering what to do I did some things to get just enough to pay your account off and CLOSE IT. I NEVER want ANYTHING to do with your company again. Even if I can prevent one person from going through what I did, that would make me happy :) I'd love a refund too on the interest but sadly I don't see that happening.

The statement balance was $2442.09! I have no idea how that happened since the Billing Statement is, like I said, my first one. Then buried in the middle of the message, it says that "we have already emailed a notice to **." Wow, I never knew I have had such an email account! It must be someone else's email account, or worse, a criminal who fraudulently used my mailing address with a fake email address and opened a Bill Me Later Account!
Then the letter says that "If this is not the correct email address or you prefer to receive paper statements, please register your account at paypalcredit.com to update your account." I am just amazed how could a financial institution such as PayPal Credit rely on a fake email account to open a credit account for a U.S. citizen?? Then ask the unfortunate U.S. citizen to "provide the correct email address!" After reading this, I was speechless.
Furthermore, there was not a single word explaining any purchase I supposedly have made to reach the $2442.09 charge on the billing statement. What's worse, if I do not respond, they will stop the paper bill and go paperless, presumably sending future monthly bills to the fake email account instead. How convenient to jack up interest later on by doing so?!
I will fight against this charge using all my powers. And I will let other consumers know how greedy PayPal Credit is and how shameless PayPal are by allowing this type of financial scam running under its wings. Shame one both PayPal Credit and PayPal!

Bill Me Later is a perfect example of how banks contrive to cleverly confuse and throw off consumers so that they find themselves trapped with outrageous interest charges. While it is everyone's responsibility to carefully review any offer from a credit card company, Bill Me Later deliberately omits certain language (as do its customer service agents) to make it appear they have answered your questions, when, in fact, unless pressed further, they have not. This 6 months No Interest is a convoluted mess. I thought with the collapse of the finance markets several years ago, that this sort of trickery was being dealt with. With each statement there was a note (not easily seen) that aside from the minimum payment due of $25, that if I wished to avoid interest, I needed to pay a minimum of $105.00 (which I did). The second statement came and said the exact same thing. So I pay $105 again. The third statement came and said my offer was up and that I needed to now pay $353 to avoid interest. Shocked and dismayed I cancelled my account. But paid the higher amount.
Today I received a statement saying I did not have to make a payment until October. I asked what that payment amount would be and all I remember was an answer that made no sense. So I very clearly repeated my question and asked what the minimum payment will be on my next statement, on the remaining balance of $595 and I was told "the entire amount." I was then lectured on how I made the decision to accept the offer of Bill Me Later so, of course it is all my fault. That was the innuendo. In any case, while I am not disputing the balance, I do feel (as so many others have said here) that I was duped into a situation where Bill Me Later lured me, by being vague and evasive in its statements and with its Customer Service, into a trap where I either have to pay $595 by my next statement or begin to incur 19%+ Interest. Sleazy to say the least.

I have been using Bill Me Later for about four years. I made several deferred interest purchases, which sometimes overlapped in their interest-free pay-off dates. I paid these loans off on time to avoid the balloon interest payments on the full purchase amounts. Bill Me Later would apply my payments to the loan that was due first, so there were no issues until recently.
I had an 18-month deferred interest purchase for about $3600 that I was paying-off on a regular basis by making electronic payments to Bill Me Later through my credit union. By May 2014, I paid the full amount of the $3600 loan within the 18-month window, which ended in July 2014. I also made two much smaller purchases in December 2013 and March 2014, which didn't have Bill Me Later's zero percent promotional rate. I had no reason to believe that Bill Me Later would change its practice of applying my payments to the $3600 loan to meet the 18-month window. A different payment allocation practice was not mentioned in the consumer information on the billing statement, which I have carefully scrutinized.
In July 2014, I received a bill for $906 in interest. I called Bill Me Later's Customer Care. I was told that the amount was charged because I did not pay-off the full $3600 amount within the 18-month window. I was informed that federal law required that the two (much smaller) interest-bearing loans be paid first. I asked for detail on the federal law, but none was provided. The federal requirement is not disclosed on the consumer information on the Bill Me Later billing statement. On this consumer affairs website, another person writes that she was informed by Bill Me Later that federal law requires that the deferred interest loans be paid-off first. Which is it? It can't be both. Or can it be, if one or the other situation is to the benefit of Bill Me Later?
I then asked to speak to a Bill Me Later Customer Care supervisor. I tried to explain the situation, but the response was to the effect of tough luck, you should pay more attention to your statements (in so many words). I asked why would I want to pay-off the much smaller interest-bearing loans first when I would be paying considerably more interest on the deferred ($3600) loan? The response was, we don't know your motivations. I replied that it made no rationale sense to end-up with a much larger interest charge. The supervisor would only repeat his statement about motivations.
I was reminded by the supervisor, as if this needed to be mentioned, that it was my responsibility to pay Bill Me Later for the purchases I make. I found that beyond the pale since I have a stellar payment history with Bill Me Later. I also tried to explain that the billing statements are not a model of clarity since like purchases are lumped together (I also have other zero-recent deferrals which mask the balance on the large purchase). I asked to speak to his manager since all the supervisor would do was quote (apparently) unwritten policy. I was told the manager rarely interacted with the public. It was clearly evident in his lack of people skills. I was told to pay up and that there was nothing to more to discuss.
Bill Me Later's Customer Care staff said that disputes need to be sent via U.S. Mail to Bill Me Later's post office box address in Timonium, Maryland. I was informed there were no other options for communicating my concerns for resolution. I mailed a letter, and received an e-mail three days later that my inquiry was being reviewed by Bill Me Later. I was informed to check the Bill Me Later website in 24 to 48 hours to find out its resolution. (However, I don't have access to the website because I will not provide my banking information to Bill Me Later.) I called Bill Me Later's Customer Care five days after the e-mail to inquire about the resolution. I was told by Bill Me Later's Customer Care representative that the $906 in interest charges is valid and would not be waived. No explanation was given. No avenues for appeals were offered.
I paid the full interest ($906) on the $3600 purchase although I fully paid-off of the loan within its 18-month interest-free term. Bill Me Later will admit, that even with their (unwritten) payment allocation practices, I paid-off $3200 during the 18-month term. This also seems to be an issue of usury although that is not my complaint here. I understand that a federal judge denied a class action lawsuit filed with the State of California because it should be under federal jurisdiction.
Needless to say, I won't be using Bill Me Later again. This week (in August 2014), I will have paid-off the Bill Me Later balance in full and closed my Bill Me Later account. I will also contact Bill Me Later's new parent company, PayPal. I learned a lesson the hard way. Bill Me Later does not operate according to standard banking and credit card rules. In reading other complaints on this and other consumer websites, Bill Me Later appears to be flying more-or-less under the radar with federal regulatory agencies. I can surmise from my experience and other complaints posted on this website that at least part of Bill Me Later's financial model is based on tripping-up its customers.
There are, to my knowledge, no real remedial mechanisms for consumer protection in addressing issues with Bill Me Later's billing and dispute resolution practices. My wife and I will contact the FTC and AARP, however. I would be interested in joining a class action lawsuit filed in a federal court. I would consider my $906 well spent if it leads to needed changes in Bill Me Later's practices so that other consumers don't fall into the same or similar situations. Should you use Bill Me Later or what is now called PayPal Credit as they are becoming ubiquitous in offering enticing, interest-free deals? That's not for me to tell you, but you might want to consider the complaints posted on this website.

I have been paying my Tiger Direct Preferred account through Bill Me Later as the Tiger Direct no longer handled and discontinued their Tiger Direct Preferred account and pushed those customers to pay their bill through Bill Me Later. Right before I was done making ALL of my payments, Bill Me Later dropped one of my payments from their system!! I scheduled all my payments (as many as Bill Me Later) would allow me to schedule in advanced since they DO NOT OFFER the automatic payment options AND only allow you to make a few payments through their auto setup system. They tacked on a year's interest, charged me for late payment fees and raised my interest rates. Mind you I am a responsible citizen that ALWAYS pay ALL of my bills on time with excellent credit history.
I called to discuss the issue with customer service and honestly it was the WORST customer service I have ever received by phone. The representative was not only under trained or trained to act dumb as she refused to answer my questions and had not answers for me as to why the system dropped one of my payments and why am I being charged over $800 dollars in back interest fees. Furthermore, Bill Me Later claims to work with their customers during hardship which I have not had monetary wise, but suffered from a car accident. Once I regained my conscious and able to speak I called Bill Me Later again to find out why AGAIN the system dropped one of my payments? Of course the representative blamed me for not scheduling the payment even though I clearly had a good tracking record for my payments always being on time and pre-scheduled way in advanced all my payments.
Not only has Bill Me Later withheld information from me as a customer, but refused to work with me on the late fees they came up with for the mysteriously missing payment. I am once again dealing with this same issue as I travel a lot and that's why I set my payments ahead of the due dates. After I just logged in to my account which mind you it took me a while to do as their system is in the habit of locking me out and my passwords suddenly not working forcing me to reset my password almost every time I've tried to log-in to my account. Furthermore, the late fee on top of my payment which is ALWAYS above the minimum payment required, DO NOT add up. Yet still trying to double charge me on a late fee this time and raising my minimum payment a ridiculous amount which again does not add up and its incredibly high for only owing less than $900 dollars.
I am convinced that their system is set up to RIP OFF customers making it merely impossible to get out of debt with them. I will be consulting with my attorney in regards to the 4 times they have scammed me and not able to explain to me where those extra amounts are coming from, why the system keeps dropping an auto-payment and locking me out of my account. NOTE: AVOID USING BILL ME LATER!!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY AS I NEVER APPLIED TO MAKE MY PAYMENTS THROUGH THEM BUT WAS FORCED IN TO IT THROUGH TIGERDIRECT.COM. Way to go TigerDirect.com you just lost a valuable customer and will never do business with them either for pushing me in to this horrible company.

I have read several of the negative statements made about BML here, and I just have to say I have been using them and PayPal for a good many years with never a problem or complaint. I found the information I was given straightforward and totally above board. Several times, I have used the promotional financing offers, paid the balance off within the required time and paid no interest. I find it convenient that the BML balance and payment due amounts are shown on PayPal's site, with an option to schedule a payment (linked to BML) from there. In fact, BML is becoming PayPal credit, so it is and since November 7, 2008 has been a part of PayPal, which has since 2002 been owned by eBay. I find that researching a company before doing business with them, carefully studying any documents I am asked to sign (even electronically), and making sure I understand what I am getting into before I make a purchase saves me a lot of trouble. Unfortunately, there are always unexpected issues and changes in a company's practices to contend with - neither of which have I personally experienced with Bill Me Later, PayPal, or eBay.

Filed against: Bill Me Later, Inc. - 9690 Deereco Rd Ste 705, Timonium, MD 21093-6936
Complaint Description: In dealing with customer service of BillMeLater, I was appalled by their unethical tactics that were blatantly deceptive and undoubtedly illegal. After having had a misleading "pay later" prompt during a PayPal purchase for an eBay item, I was not notified that the purchase had in fact opened a line of credit that was not only gaining late fees, but damaging my credit. During one of my multiple phone correspondence with BillMeLater, one of which I was not directly hung up on for attempting to cancel my account. I was misled directly and verbatim told that "Cancelling my account was not necessary, and could not be done." I of course told him that I had a 0 balance on my line of credit and wished to close my account immediately and seize any further credit reporting, or activity, or purchase authority associated with my account.
He once again claimed "it was beyond their capability of closing my account" and that instead he could just notate my account as being inactive and the credit reporting and activity was unavoidable." To this I threatened legal action and asked for escalation. Once speaking to a "manager" I was misinformed that "legally they were not obligated to close my account per their EULA and TOS." To which I rebutted I hadn't signed any contracts for an agreed upon duration of our relationship and demand an immediate closure of my account and that any future attempts at charging me service fees for which I hadn't asked for would result in legal action. At this the manager suddenly had a solution and managed to "pull some strings" and get my account closed. This type of illegal misquotation of their own binding contracts and unwillingness to terminate relations is beyond unethical. An elderly wouldn't know any better and would buy into this.
Desired Resolution: I demand BillMeLater seize any future contact with me outside of their accounts department confirming on the record that my personal information to include but not limited to my name, phone number, address, social security number, credit card numbers, pin numbers, email addresses, and any and all other information associating my online purchasing identity to my physical person be deleted immediately and permanently. I request the BBB pursue an investigation into BillMeLater's outright deceptive and illegal tactics to trap customers in a credit line. "This case will be reviewed by a complaint specialist at the Better Business Bureau, and then forwarded to the business for their response. It is our policy to allow the business 30 working days to respond to your complaint. You will be notified when the business has responded."

Not only could I not access funds in the manner advertised but the funds sent to me were unavailable. But account tied up and preferred method of payment switched online statement altered to fit their benefit - three times in a hour. And to top it all off set up to have not only interest applied but fined as well - all due to their actions. The final insult is my netSpend prepay debit card (the only way I have paid PayPal - WHO THE OFFER CAME FROM AND THE ONE OF TWO WAYS TO PAY BILL ME LATER. I have no bank account) not good enough for PayPal to access money sent to me or a way to pay BILL ME LATER bill but ok for any other purchase and has been for two years. But when connected to PayPal prepay debit card not netSpend, but PayPal prepay debit card automated system not only accepts my NETSPEND card number but THE PIN AS well and has complete access to transaction history.
I verified it was PayPal prepay debit card following prompts to speak to a agent and having that agent answer hello my name is... PayPal prepay debit card which no one will comment on and the whole Bill Me Later is a separate entity makes me sick as the offer came from PayPal and who is the only way aside from connecting a bank account to pay Bill Me Later (honestly thought it was a sort of reward for my history with PayPal and repair or establish good credit HOW WRONG I WAS). I really want others to avoid the huge problem I just went through with Pay Pal. Without realizing it, I inadvertently opened a Bill Me Later account. When you apply for an account, one of the first options is to fill out a form. It appears as though you are setting up your account. But actually, you are setting up a Bill Me Later account. I tested this by setting up a bogus account and realized that this initial form is indeed applying for credit. Which was not my intention. The form does not mention Bill Me Later and you really have to read what it is really setting up. I wanted to be specific and add the verbiage to this note but when trying to recreate by setting up a new account again, this time I was sent to the Link Bank account/credit card page. Odd. But which is what you would expect.
Please be aware of this practice. Read carefully before you set something up your account. I had a huge hassle with transactions that were paid by Bill Me Later not by credit card as I had wanted. It's impossible to reverse the transaction, the customer service (located in the Philippines) were not helpful and I was told to redo the transaction which turned into a nightmare. Customer Service people were inconsistent with the policy and what they can do. Beware!
Finally, after entering 3 separate transactions as per the customer service representative "Ronald" **, asking for supervisor help and then finally making another call to the bill me later center (Maryland) I called the merchant and have them credit back to Pay Pal the transactions. This took about 2hrs and waving through a lot of inconsistencies and contradictory information. After canceling the transactions, I was able to continue directly with the merchant with not problems.

Not only will they leave a hard inquiry on your credit report, when you use it again after not using it for a while, they will leave ANOTHER hard inquiry! And according to my credit report analysis by Equifax and TransUnion, BML's hard inquiry is under the NEGATIVE factor in the analysis; quote "this is the inquiry that has impact on your credit score". Both Equifax and TransUnion even say that some auto loans or mortgages will not even impact your score. So consider how poisonous BML's inquiry does to you!
ALSO, their website is confusing to navigate. I believe I enrolled in auto pay for BML's balance of $400 out of $500 credit limit they gave me. Maybe I did not figure out their website right. I thought I did so I left it like that. However, they did not give me any reminder when the auto pay didn't go through for my first statement. I filled out the information, was approved for a line of credit, but after checking numerous times, my account never reflected the $10.00 promotional credit. I submitted a request online, asking for the discount to be applied. I received a response a couple days later saying that "the request was complete" but still did not get the promised discount.
I called the toll-free number and was told that a new case would be opened and I would receive an email with the results. Again, the response indicated the completion of the investigation but did not indicate that the request was approved nor denied. I contacted the company a 3rd time via the website and did not receive a response. The only reason I opened an account was to get the $10.00 discount and they failed to give it to me. I paid the balance in full because I didn't want a late payment on my credit report, but I feel they conned me into opening an account by offering a discount they never intended to provide.

This was a problem that never happened before when Web Bank managed the accounts. In my opinion a much better company. I HATE the new manager. I believe it may be Community but I am not sure. On January 14, 2014 a $15 transaction was paid via PayPal using my credit card on file with PayPal. About a month later, I received a statement from BillMeLater showing the same charge. I don't have (and don't want) a BillMeLater account, so I contacted their customer service and they assured me they would remove the erroneous charge and close the account. However, I have been receiving statements ever since then and now the $15 balance is up to $82 as a result of their service charges. When I finally received enough information from BML to file a dispute, I was told it had been more than 60 days - of course it had - they merely stalled me on my original complaint so the item was age past 60 days. Throughout this period, I have contacted BillMeLater and PayPal to resolve this unauthorized use of an unauthorized account, and despite several assurances it would be taken care of, I'm still being billed.
I involved PayPal because the only way BillMeLater could have gotten my information was by tapping into PayPal's records. I even tried to post a dispute on PayPal's site with strange results - the dispute would appear on my account that day, then disappear with no further contact with me. One of the most disturbing encounters was with BML customer service when the agent repeatedly insisted I provide my social security number. I didn't of course, because I know that is a common scam practice. I have never had a problem with PayPal before this one, but I do think they have a responsibility because they own BML. I don't know whether this is intention fraud or if the misdirected transaction was a simple mistake but I do not intend to pay something I don't owe. If anyone is planning a formal legal action or complaint through a Federal agency, count me in. I can't believe it's legal to 'create' false charges like this.

I used the company for the first time back in late October for Christmas shopping. I promptly paid for my charge on 10/27/13. I had the money. I only used them in the first place because of the $10 promotion off your first purchase, and then I went back to paying for everything else out of my bank account. I thought I was done with them, and after the holiday season I had no reason to log back onto ebay or paypal. I have found out months later that I owed money on my account, but the company neglected to inform me until months later after I'd incurred months of late fees. I had the money and would have paid it up if I'd have known, but when I paid my initial charge apparently the full balance was not up.
For months I received no notice of a delinquent account, no bills in the mail, no email notifications, no phone calls. When I did start getting phone calls in January and February there would be no answer, no voicemail, I'd even pick up and it'd be a dead line. I'd get calls several times a day, which wouldn't say anything, and then next week there would be a different phone number calling me. I thought this was either a prank or a scam. More likely a scam because my bank had to deactivate my card around this time and issue me a new one.
This is not how I'd expect a legitimate business to operate, calling three to five times a day, leaving no message, it screams a scam. Then in March I started getting voicemails, which actually identified the calls as bill me later. I knew I'd used the company once, but that was months ago and never since, and I thought I had paid up, and I would have if I'd have known. Eventually, at the end of March I got a bill in the mail which prompted me to check the account, but I'd have done so a lot sooner if their harassing phone calls actually left a message, or if someone spoke to me when I picked up. I feel that Bill Me Later was lax in contacting me, specifically so that they could charge me hundreds of dollars in late fees for a bill which was only $53, which I had every intention of paying in full as soon as I ordered my product. Instead, Bill Me Later decided to put the bill online much later, just so they could assess their late fees.
I don't believe in spending money that I don't have, and didn't need to borrow money. I only used them the one time because ebay was advertising $10 off my purchase if I paid through Bill Me Later, and that came back to haunt me in a way I never anticipated. Not only am I unhappy about the late fees, but I am shocked by the way they harass their clients with repeated phone calls, but never say a word. If I run the phone number through a search engine it says it is Bill Me Later, but an equal number of people state that the number is a scam and advise recipients not to answer. When this is how the company operates, it's easy to believe that the phone calls are fraudsters posing as a legitimate company.

I pay attention to bills I get via mail and email but I do not actively pursue them. I didn't find out that I owed the $22 until I got a call from a collector, upon which I paid it promptly and closed my Bill Me Later account with the agent on the phone. Or so I thought. 2 months later I log in and I still have the bill, with a new fee slapped on top. I called again and they said my bank had declined it. Strange, because I use that debit account everyday. I closed it again today - she assured me on the phone that yes, indeed, it is closed, but I have to keep my eye on it. Called customer service several time asking why, not much explanation, just asked for my bank info. Well my payment still didn't go through for like 3 to 4 times and I end up getting charge for late fee. I asked my bank to see what was the problem, teller told me that they do no see any debit from Bill Me Later. Bill Me Later customer service rep. could not waive my fee and asked me to write a letter to the headquarter. So I did and I got an email stating that my fee wavier was completed.
I got a statement email from Bill Me Later, and I thought my fee was waived. I called the customer service rep. and he told me that there was no such note saying my fee was waived. I told him I got an email. He said there might be a confusion, "my note state that it was denied." He said, "did you not receive a letter from us?" I told him, "no, I been sitting at home for past couple of months and I did not receive any letter from you." If it was sent out on 4/30/14, I would have gotten that letter, but it's been 2 weeks and I do not see a letter from your company. He told me that, "well I do not see any return mail from you." Well then I wouldn't know if it was denied or not.
I got really angry, because they still refuse to waive my late fee, which it was not my fault . If there was a problem, which several attempt was made to pay off my balance, why did they not give me another option to pay off my balance instead of putting me through all this trouble and end up with this late fee on my account. I'm still pretty upset about this whole situation, and they did not handle it well. I closed my account, paid off whatever I need to pay, and do not want to deal with them anymore. If anyone read my post be warn that this company are not reliable. They seem nice at first and when billing issues arise, that's when the problem begins.

From the start, I had trouble with BML. I could not get the system to work and spent a good number of hours on hold over the next 3 days, waiting for someone to help me. When I did get advice, it was wrong. We finally got it to work and I paid the contractor who asked me to use BML. The contracting job went wrong, and I fired the man. He refused to refund the balance of my money, so I filed a dispute with BML. I provided a good deal of evidence - emails and photos, etc - which the contractor refute, but he did not provide one shred of evidence - not a proposal or contract, no receipts, photos, nothing. Yet BML sided with him, saying 'he had completed... part of the work.'
I appealed. They again sided with him, giving the same reason. I said that if this contractor deserves to get paid the full amount for doing part of the work, then I should have the option of paying BML only part of the money, but they did not see it that way. I have to say that their phone reps who helped with this issue were extremely helpful and professional, but the outcome has left a bad taste in my mouth, as they are clearly protecting their financial interests and do not want the money refunded, as it would cost them $1200. Thus they support the kind of sleazy contractor most homeowners dread.
THEN BML charged me interest on what was supposed to an interest-free transaction, providing I paid them in full within 6 months. I asked why I was being charged interest, and they said it was because I sent the contractor money, rather than paying for a service. I argued that I did pay him for his services, but they said the transaction would have to be made from the contractor's website to qualify, but of course that transaction would not go through, which brings me full circle, to the fact that we had trouble getting the BML payment to go through at all. This service stinks. I am cancelling my account today, as well as my PayPal account, as they are out of their minds associating themselves with such a poorly run operation. STAY AWAY!!

The call was about an overdue payment that supposedly happened 6 months ago. I do not recall the purchase so I ignored the automated calls, chalking it up to some robo-scam. After two months of robo calls, I received a call from a person at BML. They stated I had made a purchase some eight months ago with paypal bill me later service. (come to find out BML is only a service and is in bed with paypal but not owned by paypal).
They told me I made a $238.00 purchase from "TOYO ASA". I asked them what it was that I purchased. They could not tell me. I told them, my whole experience with BML smells of a scam. I told them, if they can tell me what it was I supposedly purchased, it may remind me of the original transaction. They could not tell me. They also told me my owed balance was $378.00 because of late fees. They told me to contact paypal for details of the transaction. When I go to paypal they refer me to BML for the invoice details. I asked them, if I supposedly made this purchase, why have they not sent my email reminders of payment. They said they do that. I have never received any emails from BML.
If they cannot provide with information about what I supposedly purchased, I don't see how they expect me to pay them. Anyone could have made that purchase and I still do not understand why BML cannot supply with information on what was purchased. I do not believe this service is in business for the right reasons. I don't think it is a service to people but rather a vehicle to collect late fees. If any lawyer out there is interested in a class action lawsuit, sign me up. I am astounded about how many complaints BML has on just this site.

I inadvertently open a BILL ME LATER browser while making a purchase on PayPal. The first charge went thru my bank card. The second charge in the amount of $9.96 went to Bill Me Later. Three months later I received a bill for $22. I believe it was an error and send them a message to cancel the "account". They forward it to a collection agency, and a month later to a second collection agency. It resulted in a negative report to my credit and I was denied any options or explanations. I never intended to register on Bill Me Later. I demanded to see my signature. $172 dollars later and felt trapped. I did not solicit to make business with the company. Do you regulate minimum charges? How do I fix the negative reporting?

Beware! I tried to make a payment via PayPal and wound up (sadly and unfortunately) using BillMeLater. When I had a problem with accessing the account, they tried to force me to give up additional personal information and ultimately told me that I had to deal with PayPal or the vendor directly, basically washing their hands of the confusion they caused. The customer "service" reps rely on internal hardcore marketing policy through statements whereby they attempt to absolve themselves of any painful hardcore marketing tactics. Just avoid these people if you can. Surprised a great company like PayPal has partnered with these people.

Do not use this service! This is a scam.....I booked a hotel through Bill Me later at Bookit.com. My husband and I had a family emergency and had to cancel it. We called Bookit.com and we were told we would be charged 19.95 for the cancellation and would receive credit for the remaining 1546.00 in 7 to 10 business days. I also had them send me a cancellation notice to my email. 30 days later I was still being charged on my Bill me Later account, so I called Bookit.com back and was told they sent the credit to Bill me Later and to call them to find out why my account did not receive the credit. I called bill me later and they said to send in a dispute form along with the cancellation notice, so I did. The next day I received an email from bill me later saying that it would take them up to 90 days to notify me if....I would be credited! I have called both companies at least six times and both are blaming the other company for the dispute. I will never use this service again...at this point I may end up paying for a service I never received.

I ordered a piece of music equipment from BH Photo, using Bill Me Later as my payment method. After a couple weeks, I checked the vendor's website and the item still had not shipped. I promptly cancelled my order, and ordered from another vendor (ZZZounds). A month later, I got a bill from Bill Me Later for the original amount. I called and discussed the issue, and was told to provide documentation. I mailed a copy of the email cancelling the order, and a copy of the tracking invoice showing that the item had not shipped at that time. A couple weeks later I got a letter saying that my dispute was approved, and my balance was $0. I called to confirm and was told that the case was officially closed, and I owed nothing.
Two months later I got a letter saying additional investigations had taken place, and the original charges were back on my account. I stated that not only had I cancelled the order, but I had never received the package. These facts did nothing to dissuade Bill Me Later from charging me the full amount. The vendor won't deal with me, and UPS has a 30 day limit on filing claims. The reason I used Bill Me Later in the first place was to put a level of protection for an expensive purchase. I'm livid that a company would make a decision with both verbal and documented guarantees, then reverse itself.

I did not know that was a finance company, I thought that they meant that they would send my meds. and bill me later. I got the total and immediately sent CVS a check. The I got a invoice from this company called, "Bill Me Later". I called them and told them that I had paid CVS and that I never entered into any contract with them. They promptly and rudely advised me that CVS set up an account for me. I told them that I had not signed up for anything and that they should close the account. They refuse and now I get monthly late fees for a zero balance account that exceed $100.00 a month.
I tried to call them and was advised that I should pay or be sent for enforced collection. I keep trying to explain that I have never signed any agreement, opened any account or agreed to any financing. I paid my bill directly to CVS with no delay. They only reply with rude customer service people. I called CVS and they advise me not to pay them anything and that they would clear it all up. To date, Bill Me Later claims that they don't care and that they will report me to the credit rating service if I do not pay my bill to them. I don't know what to do and will most likely get a black eye on my credit report for nothing. Sounds like the old Mob days to me.

They say I can't even open a NEW account. My credit is immaculate, and I've never missed nor been late with payment. I AM VERY ANGRY... and I feel BML is depending on people to carry a balance until the 6-month mark so they can roll up the interest. When BML realized I was not going to do that, they cancelled me. This is how they handle a single, failed attempt at fraud? No way! They'd be shutting out THOUSANDS of BML account holders daily! Good luck doing business like that! Bill Me Later is great for the first few months, then the interest rate skyrockets, the billing cycle is short and the online payment system is awful. I've had 4 payments that were scheduled to post just not post for no reason, thus resulting in late fee of $35 each time and added interest from the late fee. Their customer service could never explain why the payments (that had no issues going through for nearly a year) suddenly just didn't post. They did waive one of the 4 late fees, even though it was their system's fault they could not waive the others. Avoid if you can.

I'm noticing a trend here... & my experience is no different. I stupidly wanted to make a purchase during the holidays & thought using this Bill Me Later service was a good option. I know I did NOT opt to allow BML as the priority method of payment with PayPal. And yet, for the next several purchases my husband or I made, they charged to BML. On two of the purchases I know I selected my bank account or debit card, and STILL the items wound up appearing as charged to BML.
Every time I go to PayPal, even though I select another payment as my primary payment method, it defaults to BML. The latest in this trend - I sent $100 for services. I selected my bank account specifically. I saw it reflected in the account history. I should have taken a screen shot. I went to pay my BML, so thrilled I was FINALLY going to pay that damned thing off.... and I see an extra $100 in my balance. I see no reflection of why there was a charge of $100. The last transaction was one I already noted, again a BS charge that I thought was to my debit card but because PayPal defaulted again to BML, the charge went there instead of where I wanted it to go. That was several weeks ago. I was utterly dumbfounded at this new discrepancy.
I emailed BML & asked why there was a difference and what the charge was. They just got back to say that I sent $100 using BML. I got back demanding to know why it was charged there when I specifically selected my bank account. I'm waiting for their reply. I know they'll blame me for clicking BML. I know I didn't. Next time I use PayPal. I should take a screen shot of the transaction. I don't trust PayPal any longer and I wish I NEVER signed onto using Bill Me Later.

I recently received a call from a Bill-Me-Later (Comenity Capital Bank) fraud specialists. I was asked if I had made any purchases on eBay that morning. I had not. I was informed that someone had allegedly attempted to make two purchases on EeBay from my account. Apparently they either made a mistake or did not have sufficient information to access my account and the transactions did not succeed. Immediately I checked all my accounts and found no evidence of any monkey-business anywhere, including eBay. There were no records of any bids in my account. Nevertheless, I did change all my passwords.
About ten days later I received a letter from the Bill-Me-Later Fraud Operations asking me to fill out a lengthy affidavit validating every transaction in the last 5 years. It was four pages of data. They also included a form regarding the police report that I was supposed to fill out. I was also informed that my account had been cancelled. I called, because I do not have any information to file a police report other than two dollar amounts that someone allegedly tried to charge. The young lady was pleasant, but unhelpful. I filled out the affidavit, but I am waiting for my daughter to return home from a business trip. She works for a very large international company and is knowledgeable about these sorts of affairs. I do not know if I have a legitimate complaint yet.
I have ordered my free annual credit reports from the three main bureaus. If there is anything there, then perhaps I can proceed with a formal complaint. So far there is not a shred of evidence to demonstrate that there ever was an attempt at identity theft. Coincidentally, I started receiving mail from Life Lock. Has anyone else had a similar experience with Bill-Me-Later (Comenity Capital Bank)? The whole thing seems straight out of a Kafka novel.

I made a legitimate purchase using my established PayPal account. I received the item ordered and although I wasn't satisfied with what I got, it was my fault that I didn't ask the seller enough questions before making the purchase. Then I received the Bill Me Later bill in the mail. AT NO TIME did I authorize PayPal to make the switch to Bill Me Later. They had the billing information to make an automatic payment to the seller, which is what I had set up. If I somehow made a tacit agreement, I was completely unaware of it.
When I disputed the bill, I was asked if I had proof of payment made at my bank. It took a while to track it down and no, they had not done what I had expected and because of this, I became liable for the purchase price and late fees. I paid the bill off with additional late fees, today. I asked for confirmation that the payment was made, which I received and I was TOLD that the account was closed and that confirmation would be emailed that it was closed, and I have yet to receive confirmation that the account is closed.

Well, they took it upon themselves to change my settings back to making BML my default method and I didn't realize it and ordered that bag, and then in my email it told me it had used BML! Now I'm worried that when I try to pay it it's going to cause problems because I've heard nothing but bad stuff about BML, and I try my best to avoid things like this, but as I said I was never notified that it changed my stuff. I've been buying and selling on eBay for over ten years and have never had an issue like this. I purchased a high-ticket item (over 1,000 dollars) on eBay. I normally use my credit cards but Bill Me Later offered me 0 percent for six months. After going about ten days without receiving my item, I tracked the item with the USPS tracking number provided by the seller. It came back with a status as delivered. On further inspection, I noticed that someone had forged my name and it was delivered to an incorrect address. So, it was delivered to someone else's address and someone had forged my signature.
I filed a dispute with Bill Me Later and they ruled against me stating that the seller provided them with "proof of delivery." Yes, the seller did provide proof of delivery but to an incorrect address and to a signature other than mine. I did point all of this out in my dispute. That the item was delivered to an incorrect address and that someone had forged my signature. Bill Me Later is not debating this. What they are doing is telling me the issue is between me and the post office. I then contacted the post office and was told I could file a claim but that their liability is only 50 dollars as this is how much the seller insured the item for. I've sold on eBay for almost ten years and I have always been required to insure my packages for the full selling price whether it be a Buy it now or auction.
So, Bill Me Later is saying the seller did meet his burden by providing proof of delivery even though the item was shipped to an incorrect address, signed for by someone else, and under-insured. Bill Me Later is passing me on to the post office but their liability ends at 50 dollars because the seller under-insured the item. I asked to speak with Bill Me Later's dispute department and they told me they don't allow calls from customers. I then asked to speak with the lending bank and again, was told they don't take calls from customers. I'm not going to take no for an answer as this is over a 1,000 dollar loss for me.
This is the holiday season and I'm going to put it out of my head and be following up with the AG's office in my home state at the beginning of the year. Something does not seem right when I can purchase something on eBay that claims to be so safe but when something is lost or misdelivered, they wipe their hands free and send me to the postal service.

I am writing to warn all about Bill Me Later. I have an account with them and have been a loyal customer. My account has been inactive as of late but has remained on my electronic list of payees in my checking account online. I accidentally paid them $850 instead of the intended payee of Capital One, my next payee after them in my list. What transpired after is almost unbelievable and was stated by Bill Me Later Representative, Scott, verified and recorded by my bank in a 3-way call. A previous call had been made to Bill Me Later in which they stated that the fastest way to retrieve my money was to stop payment because electronic payments takes 8 days to clear on their end. I called my bank. They stated that was incorrect. The stasis is paid since the 3rd (5 days ago).
My bank agreed to stay on the line to verify this information. We quickly got the 8-day response from a regular CRS and was then transferred to Scott, a supervisor. He stated that the electronic transfer was received via check and because of that, they have an 8-day holding policy (this stated by now 2 CRS persons previously at Bill Me Later, which is why I contacted my bank and requested they stay on the line to clear this up). Ryan, my bank representative, stated that was incorrect. That the money left my account on the 2nd as an electronic transfer and was posted to them by the 3rd. That being said, he added, Ms. ** is unable to stop payment as suggested by a previous CRS at Bill Me Later.
Scott quickly confirmed electronic payment and restated the 8-day holding policy minus now the reasoning of check payment stasis. I asked that this be waived. Scott stated he cannot, it is not their policy. I told him that was unacceptable and outside of a policy for check stasis. They have my money and should be able to return my money ASAP. He kept repeating the company line with no firm reason for not returning my money. I then asked for overnight delivery rather than wait the 7-14 business days for it to be sent regular mail. He said he could do that and I asked him to verify the dates. He stated that the check would be overnighted on the 13th. I explained to him that would be 9 days and not 8 business days.
He told me that my math was incorrect and 8 business days was the 13th. I told to break out a calendar and follow along with me, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12. The 12th being the 8th business day and he then tried to explain it takes a day to process an overnight delivery. I explained that if I go to FedEx now and ask them to overnight a check that it would be received by his company the next day and that he/they should be able to process and send the check back to me on the 12th, the 8th business day per his company's policy. He stated that is not how overnighting works at Bill Me Later and that my check will be overnighted on the 13th to be delivered on the 16th. I requested Saturday delivery; again not their policy and I told him that was unacceptable.
This is a company that does not understand electronic payment vs. check or how to overnight a check? HELLO, what century are they planning to do business? I ended with a reminder that Scott's explanations were being recorded and in the end if I were to file this in a small claims court, they would lose because the actions and policies are inconsistent and stacked in the favor of Bill Me Later. I vowed to complain online so here I am. My only hope now is that this never happens to anyone else and that people think twice before doing business with a company that does not value its customers, lies about stasis of customers' money, cannot do simple math concerning business days, cannot admit to a mistake and be so terrifyingly unyielding in returning money that is not theirs. I hope this stone casts a ripple effect of concern for customers and a change in Bill Me Later's policies in the future.

Don't use Bill Me Later. After I changed to my married name, I tried logging into my account when making a purchase. It made a duplicate account for me. When they merged them finally, my payments skyrocketed an additional $60 a month (and still are) more than I had been paying, even though we paid off the balance of the new purchase that same month. My husband recently lost his job and started somewhere else. I had to make a payment in two installments. I asked them AHEAD OF TIME if we could lower payments or if I could have more time with no penalty. They hit me with a LATE FEE immediately even though I paid partial balance, even though I have a flawless on time payment history with every company SINCE THE DAY I HAD CREDIT and resumed making HARASSING PHONE CALLS minimum 5 times a day. No exaggeration. Literally 5 times every day.
They never left a voicemail so I used reverse phone lookup. I called it and the rep's response was she couldn't explain the higher payments and it is what it is. They kept asking me for a payment and I said I advised them in advance my husband lost his job, I needed an extra week. I said it's extremely rude to call me several times a day and not leave a voicemail. How am I supposed to know what they are calling for? I work for the collection office of a hospital; I know they use these call logs as "ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT" in case they send you to a collection agency or file a lawsuit against you. The rep said they are not allowed to leave voicemails. I told her she was right full of it, my name is on the voicemail. They can legally say who they are calling for and where from and a callback number. The harassing calls got so bad I added a number blocker to my phone. I made the rest of that payment on time and I am in the process of closing all my accounts related to PAYPAL.
I do not appreciate BEING TREATED LIKE A DEADBEAT when I have been a FANTASTIC CUSTOMER for over 7 years. If it was worth my time I would like call customer service 5 times a day to see how it makes you feel, but it would be wrong to subject your employees to the harassment that is your policy. I'm thankful our organization treats the customers better than yours.

PS: This ain't over yet for I am waiting on a call after they discuss this case. I will let you all know how it panned out.

I have bought several things from Bill Me Later both through eBay and other merchants including Walmart. I have always paid my bill on time and online as a debit from my checking account, including paying them off once and am fixing to do so again. I have never had the first problem with them. If they charge some interest if you haven't paid off an item by the deadline given, well they have a right to do so. It tells you that in their agreement. So I can't seem to understand why so many are having a problem with it.

I submitted the cancelled check for under $15 which fully paid for the item. BILL ME LATER began charging finance charges over 30%. I called them and the woman on the phone said the payment arrived 3 days late which entitled them to charge finance charges. My response was that payment was received in a timely manner, within 2 weeks of the bill having been received and, that I had no control over US Mail delivery system. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was put on terminal hold. Eventually, they disconnected the call. Finance Charges are now at $112 and they are threatening to send this bogus bill to collections!
My next step is to send a complaint to the BBB, and Fed Trade Commission. I agree that a class action suit is the way to go and would be willing to get on board. I am also writing the CEO of BILL ME LATER and will likely have to take them to small claims court to protect my credit rating. Correctly anything purchased on Amazon, Ebay or the like should never involve PayPal or BILL ME LATER. Use only trusted bank credit cards.

I bought something from eBay and used Billmelater.com to pay for it, but after that, my Billmelater account has no balance, and I keep sending them messages telling them to fix their problem. After a month, eventually they replied:
"It appears that you have more than one account. We've found 2 accounts linked to you. We understand this may not have been your intent. Multiple accounts can sometimes be created when information entered for a transaction does not match your existing account profile. You have the ability to consolidate the accounts ending in: ** and **. The consolidation of your accounts can take 1-2 billing cycles to complete. If you'd like these accounts consolidated please call us at 866-528-3733 Monday through Sunday, 7 a.m. to midnight Eastern, and one of our Customer Service teammates will be happy to help you."
I called them, they said they will fix it, they need a week, and charge nothing, but after 3 days they put a late fee into the balance. I send them a message asking why they charged me because of their mistake, and they sent a message: "After carefully reviewing your account details, a late fee of $25.00 was applied to the account on 09/21/2013 as a result of not receiving a minimum payment due of $56.98 by the payment due date of 09/18/2013. A detailed explanation of the terms, including fees and finance charges can be found in your Account Agreement." I wish I can help you see what Billmelater is really, and please, if you know how to fight them, please leave a comment.

I tried to log in to pay my bill online. I keep getting the runaround. I never get the email the site says they sent for log in help. I have forgotten my user name. I send a payment and they haven't given me credit for it. I got an email today with a new balance. So they can email me and ask for money but they can't go to their PO BOX and check it. Find my payment and cash the check?? I am not happy and if I can figure out how to cancel this account I will. I guess I will have to mail a form to yet another PO BOX. The customer support number never gives you a live person. Just hoops to jump through!!!

Bill Me Later has added over 100.00 to account because of PayPal trying to get money from an account that had been closed for almost a year. Bill Me Later was aware of correct account number and I had been paying them from current account. When I called to try and explain what I was talked to in a condescending manner and kept shifting between PayPal and Bill Me Later operators, with no one trying to understanding my concern or problem. I have paid off bill me later and I know...shame on me for ** with them in the first place. This is just to warn anyone that is thinking about using Bill Me Later...DON'T!!!!! Hidden fees attached to bill, cannot get person to talk to if you call, operators unfriendly and inept, cannot receive or explain charges on statements. Really low class company!!! DO NOT USE!!!!!!

Charged late fee twice. Canceled this stupid service. This is the worst service I've used. PayPal account is linked directly to Bill Me Later, so is my bank account. They can easily set up an automatic payment for upcoming payment due but after a year they still didn't for the purpose to charge late fee and interest rate. Are they insane? No business should set up like this. Call after the first late fee. The representative told me that I can have the option to receive payment invoice in the mail. Yeah, for a while I was receiving it until when bill is about to be due. Then I was not receiving it. The following month I received it. It's already late payment and interest. Ridiculous. So I call them and cancel it immediately.

I made the transaction on 06/02/2013; PayPal paid $ 25.90 to FATBOYTOOLS. Since that day I didn't received any bill, any note, any mail to pay . On 07/27/2013, I received the email from Bill Me Later asking me to pay $ 53.80 including fee and late payment???? I complained to PayPal and Bill Me Later. They did not respond. Then on 08/25/2013, they emailed to me asking me to pay $ 90.80. This is a trick from Bill Me Later. I call Bill Me Later to complain. She asks me to pay $ 29.99 and give her my Visa number. Of course I refused. I said I will pay only $ 25.90, exactly as original price .Then I sent the personal check to Bill Me Later, PO Box 105658, Atlanta, GA 30348-5658. I search on internet. I found over thousands of people complaining about Bill Me Later. I will not to use PayPal and Bill Me Later any more, but there are thousands of Bill Me later victims still being cheated. I hope you do some action to stop their cheating.

I ordered a $35 item from eBay, and paid (I thought) via PayPal. Somehow, the transaction was shifted to Bill Me Later. The item was defective, and returned to the seller, who refunded the money to the provider. Despite the fact that ultimately, no money changed hands, Bill Me Later not only continues to send bills and make harassing phone calls, but they are now trying to bill me $260 for this $35 item for which the purchase price was fully refunded. I believe a class action suit is the only thing that will stop them. I live in the state where Bill Me Later has their bank, and several of our state laws (as well as Federal laws) are being violated by Bill Me Later. In addition, there are enough complaints just on this site to prove that there is a wronged "class".
If anyone is interested in joining a class action suit, I will seek an attorney to start the ball rolling. I don't want to publicly give out my email address, but I will check back on this site to see if any would join a class action suit, and if so, I will contact legal representation and and then let all of us who have been ripped off by this very dubious company know where to sign up for the suit.

I have been a BML customer for about 9 months; joining around the holidays. The first 6 months were great; bought some nice gifts for my family & made regular payments. Then in July, the interest rate doubled my payment overnight! I continued to make those high payments for a few months; now the rate has almost doubled again!! There is no way I can pay this crazy high interest rate. Don't bother emailing them or calling; the representatives are just paid clones who will not help at all, just reinforce their policies to you.

In September I purchased water lilies from a pond company for $60.05. This was paid via PayPal. In December I received an email from Bill Me Later that my statement was ready(?) I went to their site and saw the charge of $92.05. When I called and questioned them they told me it was from the same pond company. I called the pond company and they said they did not bill me or charge me for $92.05 and the charge of $60.05 had been paid. I told Bill Me Later I will NOT pay from statements that are not itemized. I have been doing this since that date and now they tell me with late charges, penalties, etc. my balance is $277! I have called, faxed them, and written them letters to no avail. I just received a letter that shows, according to their figures (which are indecipherable) and THEY OWE ME $154.05!! But my balance is still $277. Go figure!

My Wife bought a computer using Bill Me Later and I made all payments within the time-frame required except the last payment, which they scheduled on a weekend and I paid on the next business day. About 10 days later, they called demanding additional interest for the entire 6 month payment period. I explained the situation but they insisted that I pay the full amount (about $45-$50). I then told them that their practice was unfair and deceptive and I would not pay. They followed up with harassing phone calls (two or three, morning and night, every day of the week) to our home phone, plus daily multiple texts and calls to my wife's cell phone.
We made multiple oral and written requests for them to contact us only in writing, but the harassing calls and texts continued for at least 6 weeks. We even had a lawyer write a Cease and Desist letter, and the calls continue for two or three week after the Cease and Desist letter was received by them. AND THIS WAS ALL OVER A DECEPTIVE CHARGE OF LESS THAN $50!!
The calls have now stopped but they continue to send us an invoice every month adding interest plus a $35 late charge each month. Their bill is now up to $270! It would be hard to describe our experience with Bill Me Later as anything other than a scam. We would like to look into filing a class action against them as there are likely others who are suffering the same treatment.

I was told because the bill me later was not working for one of my transactions to send the money to a friend and have them send it back to me so I could use my PayPal MasterCard. After I did this and my friend sent the money back to me I was able to get the bill through. Then I got an email a few hours later telling me they think I was doing a cash advance on my account, even though they told me to. That my PayPal account, which I use to get paid for my writing from that my account may be closed or a temporary hold placed on all funds and transactions in my account. This would really hurt my income as my writing I do pays into PayPal with no other options available. Hopefully when I proactively called PayPal to ask them about the email and told them what the rep at BML told me to do it would clear up the issue.

I made a purchase of $7.99 on May 23, 2013 through PayPal only. Three weeks later, I received a statement from BillMeLater: (1) the charge had been wrongly transferred from PayPal to BillMeLater, which I had not authorized; (2) An interest charge of $2 had been added; (3) A late fee of $10 had been added. The result was an APR of over 2000% for those three weeks! My e-mail and two telephone conversations have gotten the same round of gobbledygook that other folks have experienced. I am sharply displeased with the financial practices of BillMeLater, which is a subdivision of PayPal, and will close my account as soon as this dispute is resolved. My PayPal account is set up to be paid from my Visa card. It should have been paid that way.

I started using BML in October 2012. My first charge was for Toys R US and was a deferred payment until May of 2013. During that time, I used BML for some smaller charges. I made another deferred payment charge with Toys R Us in January 2013 and one more from eBay in May 2013. I noticed my balance of current charges wasn't getting paid off so I went back and looked over all of my statements. Well, I noticed that my DEFERRED payments were being paid on every month! The first deferred payment (not due until May 2013) was paid OFF before I received my March/April statement. My second deferred payment (not due until August 2013) was paid OFF before May. My third deferred payment (not due until December) is also having payments applied. I emailed them and received a response that basically told me I had to call.
They told me they were applying my payments according to some credit card act, blah, blah, blah. They also said that payments will start being made on a deferred payment if it is within 1-2 billing cycles of when the payment is due. I called this morning and the gentleman I spoke with started rambling on about my payments. He told me I had to call and allocate how I wanted my payments made. WHAT?! Apparently, a DEFERRED payment takes on another meaning with BML. I told him I wanted the money that was applied to my December payment removed and applied to my CURRENT charges. I also told him how upset I was that I had to CALL before making a payment to make sure the money gets applied to my current charges. He told me I didn't have to do that since my deferred payment wasn't due until December and it didn't fall into the "1-2 billing cycle rule" and that all payments would be applied to current charges.
I had to reiterate that the purpose of my call was due to the fact that payments ARE being applied to the December deferred payment so that "1-2 billing cycle" rule doesn't apply here. He told me he would have to call me back. I feel this company is very deceptive. If a payment is to be deferred, then payments being made should be applied to current charges and not deferred charges until the DUE DATE that is listed. I had been making extra payments so I could pay off my current charges. I am very frustrated and irritated as I now have to make EXTRA payments to pay off current charges that should have already been paid off but were instead applied to deferred payments. I will never use this company again.

When using PayPal to make a purchase, it winds up in Bill Me Later. Three different balances when I went to BML to pay off. One said $218.00, one said $0.00, and one said $13.00. I could not call BML on the weekend, so I called PayPal. Guess what? They transferred me to BML immediately. I asked for my current balance - $13.00. I said I wanted to close my BML account and pay off the balance with PayPal. I was told that I couldn't use PayPal! That I couldn't use a credit card! That I had to send a check or wire money from my bank! This is an internet business, right? It's a subsidiary of PayPal. And I can't use my PayPal account to pay off the balance.
When I asked for an email confirmation that my account was closed, I was told I would GET A LETTER! This is an internet-based business. When I said snail mail was not acceptable, the service rep put me on hold to talk to her supervisor, came back and said he would "make an exception" and send me an email confirmation. So far, no email confirmation. Very suspicious behavior and inconsistency in business policy/philosophy.
