Horrible customer service. Trying to get paperwork back I left With Liberty Tax Fallbrook is turned into nightmare. Stopped by and she said come back in twenty minutes, she could have simply grabbed my items and given them to me. Called next day and she said come by in few hours. I was out of area by then. Call today and now she says she is out of town two weeks!!! Her partner who helps ill, so no one available to give me my pertinent paperwork for two weeks delaying now my tax filing with a different vendor who was less costly. And delaying our much needed refund. Who owns a business with no backup plan to have someone to cover them if they are out of town? The fallout is she is jeopardizing our tax filing causing duress. Very unprofessional and seems vindictive to me to treat someone like this. I do not recommend this business. Very unprofessional.

Liberty Tax was the first and last "professional " I will ever use! They charged me $300 to prepare my 2021 Tax return. The only thing we had was our W2s no other forms. They lady told us we were getting almost $2400 back, and then said it would be $300 for her "hard work". Well, the IRS held up our return for 8 months, and then we found out that the return was actually only $700. I think they purposely jacked up the return to get you to pay the ridiculous fees! I wouldn't recommend this place to even my most annoying neighbor.

I have never hired anyone to do my taxes but, last year (2022) I decided to use Liberty Tax to complete my taxes because I had retired and there were a few complicated financial funds that I wanted to be properly filed with CRA. In short they did not complete the proper required forms or include the full amount of my income from my T4 slip. After I had multiple reassessments, emails and hours upon hours of time on the phone with CRA, I had to payout over $10 000 in taxes along with arrears and interest. This process lasted for 6 months and Liberty Tax (75 Main St., Milton, Ontario) was of no help whatsoever. After speaking to CRA I learned that I still needed to complete all of the required forms after the fact. Liberty Tax is extremely incompetent and obviously lack the knowledge/understanding to properly file your taxes.
I did contact Liberty and explained all of the errors and additional fees I now had to pay. I also requested to have my fee they charged me to be refunded. After several emails to the company they have chosen to ignore my emails. So in the end, I had to paid over $10 000 in back taxes, more $300 in arrears/interest (because of their error) and $160 to have my taxes completed. Do yourself a favour. Do not use this company. If I could give a minus star rating I would have because they don't deserve the one star I had to select.

I did my taxes on Liberty Tax this year, and they failed to supply a copy of my return. I am now unable to log in to retrieve it because there does not seem to be a place to log in. Customer support is only by email, and so far they have failed to respond. No one on the phone knows how I can find the log-in page. I have received conflicting information from "support" people. I filed my taxes at this office (Salerno) Stuart, FL and I was waiting for my rebate check from the state of Maine for $850.00 and I found out that Liberty Tax preparer never filed my Maine taxes and I paid over $400.00 for her service and signed all my tax documents in the proper timing and now I can't get my tax rebate from Maine because she never filed my taxes and there was a cut off date for the rebate.
Liberty tax claims that they have Satisfaction Guaranteed, if they make a mistake that they pay for the taxes, back taxes and service fees are paid back to you, well that is a big scam, seriously!!!! I reported this to the main headquarters and they just said to me that Liberty Tax will only pay for the back taxes. Be careful if you use them, but I wouldn't recommended to use them.

First and foremost I tried doing it myself and I had did most the paperwork online but went in to see if I was wrong and was told doesn’t matter I have to start over. I was only going to receive 809.00 I was charged 400.00 for my return cause I owe 600.00 for my federal CA had charged me for old debts so from 800$ I was only going to receive 409.75 I got a call to pick up my check and my check was 4.75 and the best part I was given a 109.00 discount for doing my return with them I “HIGHLY RECOMMENDED A DIFFERENT TAX FIRM CAUSE APPARENTLY THAT'S THERE AVERAGE”.
I understand money isn’t an issue sometimes but 120$ is a lot different for 400$ people have being getting charged 750$ and somehow they were able to only have to pay 120$ cause they talked to the right people so on that note customer service was the worst I have ever seen just as I feel like professional you should carry yourself especially in an industry like this. I had ask for an explanation and simply was told I DONT KNOW BUT THAT 4.00$ check is all I’m getting.
I look over my paperwork and there’s different numbers in different places and I was not even given all my paperwork they shredded one right before giving me my check. So I’m guessing I had to choice to see what was made out for me but they can make a copy of my license and put me on a paper with stuff already already on there. With all due respect if not by yourself THEN GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

My husband and I had an appointment with Liberty Tax today at 3:00pm and there was one women there and it was pretty dead. She said she didn't have anyone scheduled for 3:00pm and said we were scheduled for earlier in the day. She asked us what we needed done so we explained that this was our first year filing jointly and we had also started a business in 2020. She was quiet then said she was going to busy but she could take a look at them and said to come back at 4:30pm and they would be done. She said to leave all our tax documents and she would call us if she had any questions.
When we went back at 4:30pm she said she was working on filling out all our information and asked us to sign some paperwork verifying the payment to liberty tax. We waited for her to go over the information she entered and said it was already done and printed out an signature authorization and a refund transfer disclosure. I really didn't like how she didn't go over anything with us and wanted to talk to someone else but she was the only one in the store. I don't think she filed our taxes correctly and have no idea what she even entered in the computer. The paper she printed has $0 for business income and loss.
I'm very upset on how she didn't go over anything with us and then says it's all done and hurried us out the store. The receipt that was in the paperwork she gave us back says liberty tax charged $734.38 amount paid to tax preparer. This is ridiculous and a scam, very unprofessional and she likely put who knows what on our tax return. This is my first year I'm filing business taxes and I'm likely going to have a bunch of issues with the IRS. Liberty tax is a scam.

Checked several websites for prices and called a number from website. Cost are supposed to be in 3 levels between just under $40 with highest level (platinum-says "covers everything") just under $90 for Federal return and state return was listed just under $40. The preparer was nice and completed both my federal and state taxes in 30 minutes BUT I was charged $289. When I asked why so high it was because of the number of incomes I had....two different jobs (1 in Ohio and 1 in WV), two very small amount of royalties I received, two gambling winnings, and pension. I know that is several items but the website stated $89 covers EVERYTHING in federal return and state returns cost $39 regardless...I will go back to Turbotax next year even though I am charged each year at a much lower cost....

I used Liberty when I filed my 2020 taxes and had to file a recovery rebate for my 2nd stimulus check. I filed early and still have not gotten anything but the runaround. Due to COVID-19 and working full-time, it's next to impossible to get the IRS on the line. I do not recommend Liberty Tax Services and will NEVER use them again. Two tax preparers there KEPT asking if I had ANYONE I could claim as dependents so I can get more money, I replied not legally. I was told I'd get $684! WHAT??? The stimulus and my return was only $84?! I was charged $349! The tax preparer obviously didn't know what she was doing because the next day she texted me a revised version of my tax preparation and needed e-signatures.
When asking about the missing stimulus check, how it would be delivered and the reason an update was needed, she was short and was unable to provide me with satisfactory answers to any of my questions. I saw a bank account number that was not mine and I let her know, asked why but she seemed more lost than I was. I already knew I'd never go back to them again. I finally got a letter from the IRS that still doesn't make any sense other than the calculations were incorrect. Where is all the withheld taxes that I was supposed to get? Liberty is no good at all!

They made a mistake and never called to tell us. I found out about it because I realized they never gave us back our W2's, etc. When I called to find out where they were, I was informed that they made a mistake on our return and had to come back in. We are now getting less back and they never bothered to call us. Just plain inept service and way overpriced. We won't be returning.

I have used Liberty Tax Service for the last 3 years. First time was for refiling my taxes. I was charged about $350.00. No issue there. Last year I used them again, and my bill was over $400.00. I had a few things, but not worthy of being charged over $400.00. I let it go, but probably shouldn't have. I had my 2020 taxes done a few days ago. Went in to drop my taxes off, but he looked at everything and just did them on the spot. Took roughly 10 minutes. Just boom, boom, boom, done. Filing as Single. Quick and easy filing. He charged me an insane $508.00, which comes out to $50.00 per minute. I am stunned to say the least.
Ironically, I could have filed with Turbo Tax through the company I work for, and would have paid $89.00 max. I could have E-filed directly via the IRS, and only paid the state fee, which is like $39.95, or went with H&R Block and paid between $89.00 - $129.00. It is incredulous that Liberty Tax charged me a staggering $508.00 fee for a quick and easy single status filing that took literally 10 minutes. Needless to say, I will never use Liberty Tax Service ever again.

I filed my taxes on 02/27/2020 with Liberty Tax. I had been chronically ill, and for the first time in my my almost 40 years of working, I had not been filed a tax return since 2013. My sister had claimed my son and I, as she was our provider. I was in a position where I was expecting and needing a rapid refund. I did not ask the fee up front, as I have used H&R block in my previous years, and was aware there were extra fees. We sit and go through the questions and information required, in order to file my return. When all said and done, I was floored, when she informed me, that by filling in the blanks on a simple 1040, I was out $300.00..for preparation only. I was not required to pay for the rapid refund, apparently I was turned down for it and receive a letter within X amount of days that I never received.
On to next issue... I had mistakenly written down my 17 year old son's social incorrectly, and the first number was incorrect. I had no phone service and have given my sister's cell # for any correspondence. Apparently within minutes of me leaving the office, she contacted my sister to get the correct information, of which she did within a couple minutes, yet the preparer still entered the wrong social security number to the IRS????
Approximately a month after receiving my disappointing 1000.00 refund, I receive a letter in the mail from the IRS, informing me, they believed I was due more money. Filled out the worksheet.. Mailed back 03/29/2020.. And then, there was covid -19???? They received my paperwork 04/13/2020 per red stamp. I received my information back regarding the amendment they are doing to get my 3,500.00, I am due, because of my earned income credit I was eligible for yet never even mentioned or questioned about from these tax "professionals". I just received this about the first week of November???? Just a signature and a correct social and.. hoping to have asap. I left a message with my number for Liberty to return my call, as they are helping other clients.??? Heed my advice and don't even consider choosing this company.. Thank you for listening.... I checked online to see how much it costs for basic tax filing and it stated online the most basic tax filing is just $19.95 from Liberty Tax. So I visited Liberty Tax to do the tax filing from them thinking it would be a total breeze with no hassle of any sort. Boy, was I wrong. I have been unemployed the entire year of 2019, I had the latest income statement from welfare for the month of April with $957.40 being the amount I receive from Social Services each month and that is the same amount I get each month so for 12 months it equals to just $11,488.88 the entire year. And I also brought the statement with me that I got from TCH (Toronto Community Housing) confirming the rental payments for the year 2019 being $1,668.00 with the Statement of Assistance I receive each month also stating and confirming the rent I pay each month that being $139.00 x 12 months = $1,668 annual total.
I said to the female who was going to do the tax filing at Liberty Tax that I was unemployed for the entire year of 2019 and I did not make any extra income from anywhere so the tax filing is very, very basic. The T5007 Statement of Benefits I have received in the mail from C.R.A. which basically states the total amount of Social Assistance Payments I received and this one for the year 2019 states the amount as $11,488.88 which is the same as what the Monthly Income Statement I receive from Social Services each month indicates and confirms from Social Services that I get $957.40 each month and that means the total of that is 12 months x $957.40 = $11,488.88 for the entire year of 2019 which is the same information on the T5007 Statement of Benefits Slip.
HOWEVER I did not have the T5007 slip with me and I explained to the female from Liberty Tax that when I have been using free tax clinics they had not kept any portion of the T5007 Statement of Benefits that I brought with me and gave to them. They just took a look at it and returned the whole statement back to me to keep, or they stapled it the entire thing together on my UFILE Summary Statement after tax filing has been completed and so because of the other statements that I did bring with me I said to her it would not make a difference with proof regarding the information that I have given to her.
It would, I was aware be false information if I did not receive the same amount from welfare each month for the entire year but I said to her the rent total statement from TCH for the year would contradict the information though because if what I receive each month from welfare is less or more, the rent price each month also changes with it, and if I were to lie to her and give false information I would be held responsible and I don't have any interest to risk the price I would have to pay if I were to give false information. I also told her I can schedule an appointment with her to visit Liberty Tax again if she wants to show her the T5007 Statement of Benefits Slip, it is just that I did not bring it with me at this visit like I thought I have.
She went ahead with the tax filing and it took her just 5 minutes to do it but much to my surprise she said that the 5 minutes it took her to tax file (with no tax return involved) she said I will have to pay $55.00 for the service I received! I said, "I am sorry, online it states that Liberty Tax only charges $19.95 for basic tax filing". She not only firmly denied that $19.95 for basic tax filing exists or ever existed, she also took it to liberty to call me "stupid"! I don't have a megalomanic ego nor an inflated ego so her nonsensical comment about my intelligence was just rude and crude. It didn't tarnish my self esteem a bit, however she did look suddenly very unprofessional to me no longer with the same image prior.
I said to her, "You can use your paper shredder for the tax filing that you did for me because I am not going to pay $55.00 for the most basic tax filing that only took you 5 minutes of your time." She said "okay" and she shred the UFILE tax filing that she did and I left there quite displeased by the customer service I received from her. I was in a terrible mood from it the ENTIRE day. Even on my way home. I didn't enjoy the visit to Liberty Tax at all.

My husband and I enquired on the advantages and disadvantages of combined tax filing. We were made to believe that combined filing provides more benefits and credits, when in reality that is not the case, and we only realized after completing the filing process (and could not back track). Not only did we get less credit, we also lost other benefits we were otherwise entitled. Nevertheless, we went ahead (we had no other option) and were given our respective guaranteed return amounts.
When the actual credit came in, it was much less than what was even guaranteed. On enquiring they coolly said may be the system did not calculate properly and hence the error!!!! If they have no control on what they do or what their systems do, what is the point in providing a signed guarantee that they cannot live up to? That piece of paper is just trash and has no value or validity. They are simply misleading to get clients but not really helping the unaware. They even denied any benefit for the medical expenses I incurred during the year. Also, they are very expensive. I will neither ever go back to them nor recommend them to anyone.

During my meeting with the preparer, who identified herself as the manager, she took 4 personal phone calls on a cell phone. She asked a co-worker to make some copies and there was confusion between the two employees. She had to take time from our meeting to select DVD's for several children, apparently siblings, that were in the office. The preparer built 5 "piles" on her desk and shuffled papers to and from, with no apparent scheme. I Left.

I made her go back so I could read it and said, "No we do not authorize these things." Then they tried to put our refund on netspend or a loan instead of direct deposits! Also they called after we got home saying the payment didn't go through. I checked my bank and printed out the pending payment amount and delivered it to them. Then while my husband was there - they said we had to come back and sign something again! I think it was that financial crap they are pushing now. Will never use them again!!!!

I asked my tax preparer (the store manager) multiple times if there was any chance of the advance being denied because I could save myself over $400 by preparing my taxes myself. We are 1099 and I had everything broke down on spread sheets so she didn’t have to go thru receipts. She kept commenting on how organized everything was. She assured me that it was guaranteed.
After three hours I hadn’t heard anything from her so I called and she said we were denied. That’s not what bothered me. I was highly upset about the fact that I asked multiple times and she assured me it would be approved after telling her I could do my own taxes for $400 less than what she charged. The clerk not only did not get all the refund I was entitled to but charged me for the rapid refund and did not give me my monies in the 24-48 hours they usually do. I was told that I qualify for the quick refund and was given $50.00 cash and was told I would get half of the rest in 24-48 hours and the rest a week after that. Instead, I got a call 2 hours after leaving the office and when I called back, I was told that I would not get the rapid refund but have to wait until the IRS deposits the money into my account within 21 days.
I am still being charged the Rapid refund price even though I don't have my refund. IRS accepted the return yet, they still refused the rapid refund. I also never read or was given the opportunity to read the papers I was rushed to sign. I was rushed to sign stuff online that I could not even see. I only saw the signature block. So, lesson learned. Do not deal with Liberty Tax or companies that say one then but give you the bad deal. I will never use Liberty Tax again.

I have been a customer with Liberty Tax for 5 years. However, I think that all over now. I went to do my taxes with them on Feb 1 at the US 19 and East Bay store. I had to wait for 2 hours to be seen which was a first for me. My preparer, Sebastian had to keep calling over his co worker to help him with his job prolonging the wait and taking away time from who she was dealing with and the rest of us waiting. Finally, it was my turn. He started my taxes and I told him I wanted to advance loan that they offered as I get this every year that it's been available. He did the taxes and showed me my return. I asked and this is the next day return. He told me yes. He then offered me a card that my money would deposited to and again I asked. "This is next day?" He told me yes, within 24 hours.
So the next day, I waited and waited and then come to find out he never filed for the loan at all. So I called the customer service center and complained that I did not get what I asked for and that I didnt feel I had to pay their fee for such incompetence. She said she would have a manager call me within 24 hours (couldn't speak to one right then for some reason, this is the level of customer service and caring they provide). I asked how long I would gave to wait and she told me 2-3 weeks. So again I'm waiting and waiting and no manager ever calls. Blatant disregard for how they treated me.
So I end up calling them back to speak with this so called manager. I was handled by someone (not a manager) who told me they were expediting my return and that it should be here in the next 3 weeks. Clearly they need to look up expediting means. I told them I didnt want to pay the fee and she ignored that all together and focused on blowing the smoke up my ** about expediting my return. Usually liberty Tax has been good to me and I hate to even bad mouth them. Like this but they treat me like I don't matter and I cannot let that fly.

Spent $1000s for tax return preparation over the years with Liberty Tax in Beloit, WI. When the Beloit franchise closed we were forced to do our own taxes. During the exercise of doing our own taxes we found that over the years, Liberty Tax cost us ~$4500 because, among other things, they never invoked the credit to Illinois taxes for taxes paid in another state. Thus, we were double taxed. We drove to the Lake Geneva Liberty Tax office, since that was where all our records were stored, and met with the Office Manager Amber **. Amber tried to complete IL1040Xs for the past three years (we could not go back further than three years). She created the IL1040Xs, we sent them in, and then one by one they got rejected from Illinois for one thing or another. We tried to get Amber to at least fill out the EAR-14 rejection form, as we had no idea how to do this. After a week, still nothing.
I contacted her, she said she was trying to get her scanner to upload the document so she could email it to us. I then asked her to take pictures and email them to us, and we would copy the information on the form. Still nothing. We were under a 30 day deadline, so we tried contacting Liberty Tax again. The girl at Liberty Tax put in a call to both Amber and the Liberty Tax District Manager, neither of which called us back. We had to fill out the paperwork ourselves, redo the 1040Xs, and Illinois Schedule CR IL-1040s, etc. I would have expected someone to at least fix their own errors, and especially of Liberty Tax who caused us to pay double taxes due to their lack of knowledge of the tax laws.

Monday I gave her the information. Tuesday there was no call. By 9:30 I began calling every 30 minutes at 11:30 a.m. to an hour until almost 7:30 p.m. Try to get at 8:15. At 8:15 the person that was in charge said to me if they want call me 'cause they had a meeting with their supervisor and she will give me a time at 9:30 in the morning. This is Wednesday morning I'm speaking about. Now believe me I was still excited. Hope the circumstance in this situation but at the same time I had to think about something. Tuesday she was supposed to call me at 9:30 am again. So instead of getting upset laid down to take a nap to keep from stressing. So when I woke up I was fine. I just got up and check my phone see if I had a phone call and text or any kind of response back two whole days.
I immediately called Liberty Tax Service. When I called they said she was not in. Little did they know I was right in the parking lot when I made the call and was told that she was not there. So the young lady came out and she said, “I had just got back in.” I didn't pay it any mind and then she gave me an update and told me what was going on so I. The next time I went up she was really gone and the representative was told that she was going to pick up my check so I went home again and I waited and I waited. This is when frustration kicked in. Then I call over to the other side the Hanes Mall location, gave my name, tell him who I was looking for and the gentleman said to me, “Your check is here. You can come and get it when you want to.”
I said, “Excuse me.” I know the manager just pick the check up and it supposed to be over here so then I had to go catch a bus over to the mall pick up the check, pay somebody $15 to buy me a place to cash a handwritten check which was hard for a moment. I was pissed. One because I was charged when I was told I wouldn't be charged for anything. Any fees they were taking care of it 'cause I was a valued customer and for my inconvenience. Will I ever go back and use Liberty Tax Service again? Right now I can't answer. Am I supposed to be satisfied right now? I can't answer and still up until this moment I haven't gotten that call or text or anything from the manager who care so much. Not a, "Thank you for your patience."
I'm sorry it took so long. I really feel like I was treated badly. I feel that they should pay all of the fees and give me my $50 back that they took from me because I didn't pay because they made a mistake the year before and we're doing this for their valued customer. I will always because of the service recommend people but in my own opinion I feel if this situation is not taken care of then I just don't want to deal with them at all. At the same time on a scale of 1 to 10 service preparation was great. Communication what’s less than 5. James And Jasmine **.

First it took me 15 minutes to log on, create a password, and go thru hoops to get in. I had to do password reset 4 times and even change a username. Then I wanted to upload last year's return after filling some of it out and was told I had to delete the return I started and start a whole new one. The whole process took me 5 hours. Now I am trying to get a copy of my taxes and have to use the "chat" function to get help... and they are telling me their server is down. I'll never use them again. However, I was unaware they was run differently and the following year I went to Fox Run Shopping Center, in Bear DE also and they completely screwed up my return plus they were very unprofessional and took hours! My husband and I went to see a Mr. ** at one of the Liberty Tax Service offices in Jacksonville, NC due to an error done at the Camp LeJeune base, who told us that my husband in the last 4 years he did not have to file his NYS taxes in NC. Wow. They were wrong, so we went to see Mr. ** (he talks like the character from SNL and he's real short too). The 2014 NYS tax was done at another unrelated to Liberty Tax Service that they too, took a very long time in handling our D-400, nevertheless we paid our NYS taxes including our penalties and interest fees. Because this other office took such a long time, we decided to go to Liberty Tax Service and this is where we met Mr. **. He took care of our 2015 and 2016 NYS taxes and paid what we owed including penalties and interest fees to the NCDOR.
On October 4, 2018 we went to see Mr. ** at one of the Liberty Tax Service office in Jacksonville, NC, and we were told that he was not around by a Payroll female person with short, blond hair, middle aged ** woman. She referred us to a another Tax Preparer, Beth **, and we made an appointment to see her the next day. Ok She prepares our 2017 D-400, and she states that she sent it electronically. She instructed us that it would take 3 to 5 business days. We waited for 5 business days. NCDOR is telling us that they did not receive our D-400, meanwhile we went through Hurricane Michael. Mr. ** is telling us that our document was lost in transmission. Really?? We were being ping-ponged between NCDOR and Mr. **. Then we called Mr. ** again, and he states that he's waiting for his processor to handle the transmission. A person or a machine? I told him that all I hear are excuses coming from him.
Thank God we made our 2017 NYS taxes to NCDOR, but we wanted to know how much we owed NCDOR on penalties and interest fees. NCDOR could not calculate without receiving our D-400. NCDOR also stated that Mr. ** was lying because we went to see him about two weeks later so that he can resubmit out D-400, and NCDOR stated they still had not yet received it. I told Mr. ** D-400's do not get lost in cyberspace. We already paid Ms. Beth on 10/4/18 $90.00, so called NCDOR what were our other options, so we decided to mail our original D-400, and that it takes 4 to 6 weeks. In short, someone is lying. He shared in a previous meeting that his father was or is a Presbyterian pastor. If so, I don't think it's going to go well with him coming before his maker.

I've had Liberty prepare our tax return every year since 2009. This year, I was shocked when they informed me it would cost $640. That's the cost to prepare a Oregon state and 1040 federal forms with medical costs and charities detailed on the schedule A. Our home is our only asset and wages from employment our only income. They applied some mystery promotion that we weren't aware of, which reduced the bill to $339. When I called to ask the total price, the Office Assistant said if we brought in 10 cans of food for the local food bank they would reduce the final total by another $50. I was prepared to pay $289, which was an increase of $30 more than last year's price of $259. When it came time to pay the agent requested $339. I asked about the donation discount and he informed us that we already had the $30 1 mystery discount applied, but he couldn't tell us any details... Because he was new.
I'm currently unemployed and my husband makes $12 per hour. Paying to have taxes done is already a stretch, but we are not savvy about ski the tax laws and wanted to be sure we were correct. In addition, the lovely healthcare exchange misquoted our monthly premium for 2017 and it was determined that we underpaid by $1500. The final result... we get to pay the IRS $1700. The State of Oregon will refund $498. Where in God's name am I going to find $1200 by April 15th. We feel like we're being taken to the cleaners. Who' next in line for our miserable income? Next year, I'll file taxes myself. Disgusted???

Bill from Liberty Tax in Maple Shade screwed up our taxes two years in a row, by giving us a credit we did not qualify for. It cost us nearly 800.00 in back taxes and late fees. He told us we would be reimbursed the tax preparer fee for the two years and for the late fees. This was after weeks of being told he was waiting for approval of the returned fees. Then he finally said we were getting a check in the mail that would arrive in 7-10 days. It never came after waiting weeks. He put us off time and time again, and then flat out lied to us. Never again... and we had been going there for 6 years or so. Maybe longer. I understand people make mistakes, but don't lie to me about how you are going to fix it.

Being new to the area and unable to get an appointment with local tax preparers I opted to go with Liberty. I should have done the taxes myself. The people were friendly but completely unaware or unable to accurately prepare a tax return. After submitting my documentation I didn’t hear for two weeks. I called to inquire and was told they needed more information which I provided. After another two weeks and no word, I called and was told they work working on it, call back Friday. I stopped in that Friday and the preparer spent two hours (or more) preparing the taxes as I waited? When the prep was complete I was owing more than 5000 on FED and getting 3200 back on state. This did not make sense so I asked the preparer to review with me. Turned out she left out taxes paid and a deduction. That corrected, the amount owing came down on FED.
I reviewed further only to notice on state she had duplicated taxes paid and made another keying error. At that point we went line by line, I identified a few additional errors and finally the tax return was complete. The representative then informed me her manager has to review prior to finalizing. I thought this was strange but agreed. I was scheduled for a review appointment a few days later at 8:30 am. I arrived and the office was closed, lights off and nobody around. I was one of four customers waiting for appointments at 8:30?? At approximately 8:55 the manager arrived. As me and the other customers approached the manager stated to no one in particular out loud. I’ve had a rough morning, my son is with me so don’t start on me. We were all puzzled by this since not one person had said anything. We continued in the business and waited as she continue going on and on about her morning, the number of appointments, etc.
After another 5 minutes or so she came up front and said "okay, you all need to sign in. I’m the only one here so it will be at least an hour wait per person." With four people there you can figure the wait time. Several clients started to complain. Veronica’s reply was basically, if you don’t want to wait leave. I was horrified but a little stuck at this point because they had all of my originals and I hadn’t been given the copies (dumb on my part, I know). So, I waited nearly an hour and half. When my turn came I was summoned over and Veronica asked, “How can I help you”. I was furious at this point and explained I was there to finalize my taxes as I was instructed the manager had to review. Veronica disparaged her worker, huffed and started pulling up something on the computer. She stated that she would have to “redo” the taxes because there were numerous errors.
I was so confused at this point. I asked for my documents back and to cancel the preparation. She stated this was not possible and to let her review for a minute. Maybe it wasn’t as bad as she thought. Good grief - I could go on but I think by now you have the point. RUN away as fast as you can. This place is horrid. PS. I got a call later in the year from Liberty asking if I’d like to become a tax preparer. I laughed and hung up. Lesson learned the hard way.

They screwed you up, they promised $3250 on their website for cash advances, but guess they only request $1300.00 from their financial institution compare to other tax preparer that put what you need. At the end of their stupid calculation you are not given the whole amount but half of it. Don't file your taxes with them. Go to H&R Block Liberty Tax. Every year when the IRS opens Liberty submits your return but for some reason any returns they submit sits in limbo for a day or two while other tax services that submit returns goes right through and gets accepted, finally after a day or two your return goes gets accepted but that is where it sits for 21 days to 8 weeks before you see your refund and I am talking about a simple easy one W2 return. My brother did his return with HR Block the same time I did mine. Same day his was submitted the next day so was mine. His was accepted within two hours. Mine took 36 hours, he got approved for refund two days later. One week later he has his refund. Today, mine is still just sitting in the same spot. Something is wrong with this company. During transmission it gets hung up and messes up getting your refund. Never again will do my return with this place. HR Block next year.

The only reason I filed with them was to get an advance on my refund. I agreed to pay the $380. They say they can’t tell you if you’ve been approved for a loan until after you file so you end up paying this amount and then, like me, get refused for any advance. I didn’t have any itemized forms. Just basic taxes and that’s what they charged me. They didn’t give me the loan for who knows what reason. I’m so frustrated that they would take nearly $400 to do what you can do on TurboTax for free. Liberty Tax is the worst tax service. I will never file with them again and I’ll make sure I spread the word. Hopefully we can get this business shut down. Robbing people. On a side note, the person that did my taxes was friendly. I went earlier today to have my taxes prepared. I lost my job in December 2017 and have been struggling to make it till glorious "tax time". My daughter-in-law told me about Liberty Tax in Shelby, NC. She said that they were offering refund advance loans and that you didn't have to have your W-2 yet, that your last check stub would be enough and that almost everyone is approved.
Also they have a $50 referral bonus for both the client and whoever referred them. Being that I REALLY need the money now, my car has been towed, power bill due, etc., I decided to go ahead and have them done there. The lady who was doing my taxes seemed like this was the first return she had ever done. It took her over an hour to do MY taxes? I file HOH with one dependent, my daughter. I only had one job all year and take the standard deduction. Simple! I'm not saying that tax prep is easy but I am saying that to a tax 'professional", mine should have been.
She had to keep asking the other girl questions and I had already decided that if my refund didnt look right, I would leave (had already calculated refund amount). But the amount was right. I knew that doing the refund advance loan, the fees would be elevated significantly, I expected to pay around $200 or a little more, but I WAS NOT expecting her to tell me that my tax preparation fee was... are you ready for this? $469.00! Thats not counting the $49.95 for not paying upfront and the other $40 fee, for I dont know what. It was over $530.00 total.
I about fainted. I told her that I could not pay that so she went and talked to her boss and they took 20% off or something, still outrageous. I left! By the time I got home, they had messaged me and offered another discount. They said, if I didnt take the $50 referral bonus, the fees would be $350.00 total and I could still APPLY for the loan since I am a new client. They have got to be out of their minds! This place is a joke. They lure in people who NEED money, offer them funds right away, and then line their pockets with their disgustingly outlandish fees. They should not be allowed to continue this horrible practice. Now I have to find another preparer and try to make it till, who knows when, till I get that check I so desperately need! Just remember to NEVER GO TO LIBERTY TAX, but if you dont believe me, just check out some other reviews. Happy tax preparing!

We contacted Liberty tax and they said they would take care of it, but could take months because they have to do it through the mail. We told them they need to pay the IRS that money and they danced around suggestion. They just said they will correspond through mail with the IRS. I used the Philadelphia Pike office in Claymont Delaware to do my 2015 taxes. The charge was over 300.00 and I ended up owing over 1400 to federal and 800 to state. In 2016 I decided to "compare" Liberty Tax to TurboTax and one other tax company. I dropped the same packet of info off to Liberty and the other company. Liberty wanted me to pay over 400.00 for a return that had me owing several thousand in taxes. The other company would have charged me 250.00 for a return that basically resulted in me breaking even - owing to federal, but getting almost that same amount back from state. TurboTax cost me 150.00 and I got 2000.00 back.
During that investigation I realized that Liberty never included depreciation on 2 of my rental properties, despite depreciation being claimed on all the previous years' returns. Today I am amending the 2015 taxes that Liberty did and getting those thousands I paid back, plus some more. I contacted Liberty and explained they overlooked the very basic inclusion of depreciation, and they wanted 150.00 to prepare the amended return -- 150.00 to address their own oversight. Ridiculous. Perhaps the "professionals" at Liberty should use TurboTax. Do your own taxes -- These "professionals" don't know what you did or did not do in the previous year, and leave too many details overlooked - robbing you of your money. On the bright side -- they get paid!

She told me that per regulations she had to. So basically if the phone kept ringing we would be there for hours. Then she asked me what the number for EIC or ENC was on the form. You know, the whole point of me bringing in the full and complete stock sheets from Vanguard and Scottrade was to let someone else figure out the aggravation. She told me I should call them and gather whatever number she was looking for.
I left the office after she then went to answer the phone again. Unfortunately we chose this place to file our taxes and I'm sharing my experience to hopefully warn others of fees that may not be disclosed to them and possibly save them time because they are slow. The beginning of the experience was nice, the lady that prepared our taxes was unfortunately not forthcoming with all the costs of filing with Liberty Tax. They explain what "they" will charge, but she never disclosed there would be additional fees from what I've been told now, is by another bank. After explaining to the manager how I felt that I had been tricked into doing my taxes there, I would have not paid that high of a price to file my taxes. He was so rude and obviously lied to the owner about our conversation because the owner told me there was no way I was going to bully him into returning my $49.95 processing fee that I was NEVER informed that I would be paying and it was taken out of my refund.
They don't have your paperwork ready right away, in my opinion so they can cover up this hidden fee even longer. Maybe by the time you get your refund, you'll just forget about it. I doubt they have many repeat customers. I have no problem paying the high cost of convenience if I choose to do so but Liberty Tax should be upfront about everything that's deducted from the refund, not just disclose their fees. H&R Block was busy and booked for 3 days and not a single person in this place should have been my first clue. I would NEVER RECOMMEND the Waxahachie location.
After we were finished with our tax preparation, they then said we'd have to come back days later for our paperwork, and it wasn't even ready when they said it would be. Another reason I won't return here, even if the fee was not taken or it was disclosed in the beginning, I've never had to wait days for my paperwork with anyone. H&R Block and other places I've filed always gave it to us after we were done on the first and only visit of the year. Then above all that, the manager that never saw my identification gave me my paperwork on the THIRD visit. It wasn't ready when they said it would be, then when they said it was ready, I had reasons I couldn't pick it up and asked if they'd mail it. They refused to mail it and so when I went to get it the 2nd visit, the manager said it had already been picked up.
That had concerned me because my husband nor I had picked it up. Then he said he'd call me when he would get it ready again. I seriously couldn't just leave with it then, it was over a month since we'd filed! He did call & say he located the file and it was ready to be picked up FINALLY. I went in and he didn't even ask for any identification and just turned over my very confidential information, luckily to myself.
I 100% feel I've been cheated, and I don't care who benefited from that processing fee, and I believe the owner should had done the right thing and refunded it out of his profit because it was his preparer that didn't tell me about the fee. He doesn't agree with that and that plus the fact they have to dress someone up in a costume to attract business during tax season is pretty indicative of how good of a businessman he is. BEWARE OF HIDDEN FEES. You don't sign paperwork, you sign with a stylist before you can even read what you sign. I feel that should be against the law. Whatever happened to reading what you're signing?

I have NEVER paid over $200 to have my taxes prepared with Liberty and was shocked when I was told I would be charged $471 TOTAL to have them prepared this year. I was informed it was because I had purchased a home this year and moved, which meant I had state taxes for two states. I wasn't happy about this price but thought maybe it did make that big of a difference so I allowed them to continue. I have since done my research and KNOW this price was ripping me off!!! While preparing my taxes the lady doing them had to call for her manager on different occasions as she did not know what to do. I was told that the $471 would be taken out of my federal return.
Well... I received notification that my Indiana tax return had been deposited in my bank account on the 15th of Feb. Although my bank had no record of this, I had to wait 14 days to contact the IN. IRS which I did today to be told to contact Liberty Tax. I asked why and the IRS rep stated Liberty was doing a lot of people wrong. I then called Liberty Tax only to be told they didn't have time to talk to me, she didn't have my check, didn't know where my money was and she would call me back when she figured it out. So I then called the toll free Liberty Tax number to be told that the SHELBYVILLE KY location had charged me $471 PLUS an additional $49.95 processing fee!!! She further explained that my entire state tax refund was taken by them, and the rest was taken out of my federal return. This was never mentioned! The ENTIRE cost was to be $471 which was EXTREMELY high to pay anyway.

Hope they enjoyed my 8+ years of business, as I will NEVER be back. And I plan on following up with corporate daily until some type of resolution is agreed upon. If anyone would like to call corporate, please call 1-800-790-3863, ask for a customer service rep and tell them you want to file a formal complaint. Updated on 3/29/2017: After contacting corporate, Jill from Liberty contacted me offering me a 30% discount off NEXT year's tax services, which I most certainly declined informing Jill I had no intentions of ever returning to Liberty Tax. Jill was very abrasive asking me what it would take to resolve this issue with me. I told her the only resolution would be a monetary one for ripping me off, overcharging me and lying. She ended the conversation stating she would get with the Franchise and see what could be done, then would get back with me. So... three weeks later I never heard back from Jill so I called corporate again, which was yesterday. I explained how the conversation with Jill how had went and that I never heard back from Jill.
Today I heard back from Jill as I had called corporate yesterday, I recognized the number and let it go to voicemail so I would have her reply on tape. Jill was extremely unprofessional on the phone, stating that she needed to make me aware of this and inform me of that and basically I shouldn't be calling corporate! She also stated she was sticking with her 30% offer for NEXT year and that I had been charged only $336.00 for my tax preparation this and with the discount next year it would be $100 less. I am not sure where Jill got this $336 from but I was charged $471.00 AND and additional $49.95, not $336.00.
After listening to her uneducated call I called corporate and let them know what Jill had said, they stated she had called them to let them know her resolution but made no mention of the nasty details of her call. I told corporate I would be happy to forward them my voicemail Jill left if they would like to see how their employees behave. I continued to decline the 30% telling corporate I would never come back to them and I would inform as many people as I could how shady this franchise is. I am still shaking my head but after reading other complaints, it seems as though this is a pattern with Liberty Tax.

I ended catching her in her lies. After I get my refund I am filing a complaint with their corporate office. I would do it sooner but I worry she might try to mess with me again. NEVER GO THERE!!!

I will not recommend this place to anyone for any of services they provide, they reach you $50 & act as though that's a big amount, which in reality they are sneaky & getting that $50 back & then some! This place needs to be shut down! It was all less than an hour worth of work at that!!!

I have filed with Liberty Taxes since 2012. My experience has not been like everyone else's. Yes, they are not cheap, but they will get you to highest refund. I have always been approved for the advance, but I never took more than $750.00. This time I only advance $500.00 off my refund. They really do not know if a person will get approved or not. The only person who will know whether or not they get approved for the advance is the applicant. If you are approved, the money will be in your bank account by the next business day. Literally, if you applied for it on Monday, it should be there on Tuesday, no later than Wednesday.
In regards to getting my refund, I never, ever had a problem except when I forgot to file with that Health form from the Market Place. That was not their fault. It was mine, so this year I made sure I had all of my forms with me. I believe you get what you pay for in life. The only con I have is the $49.99 fee charged for them doing an electronic transfer of my money. I may not agree with that, but everything else is cool.

Final cost for filing taxes: RIP OFF. I never use services like Liberty but I did this year 2017. I used Liberty of Bristol, VA only because I had attempted to file my taxes online on a well-known company's website and within 48 hours my personal computer had been hacked by a Zeus Trojan Virus. Someone was attempting to steal my identity and create panic. I was told by the Internal Revenue Service that if someone filed my return before I did there was nothing the IRS could do to stop it. SAY WHAT? I rushed to Liberty because a friend said they would give us both $50. They gave me $50 but said they couldn't find my "friend" in their system yet he had filed there that previous year. After being asked various personal questions (ssi #, address, phone number, dob...) in a very insecure setting where others in the lobby could possibly hear my answers they started the filing process.
Once that was over the tax prep quoted me a fee of approximately $565. I told her I wouldn't pay that amount so she stood up and walked over to a lady's desk beside hers and the individual confirmed a 15% to 20% discount which made my tax preparation cost nearly $400. I told Kayla the tax prep that if she could get my return down to a certain amount I would agree to file with them. She "discount" the service cost a few dollars more and I agreed but then she said there was a $49 fee for filing or something. WTH, I thought I had agreed to pay $329 or close to that amount a few minutes ago. I don't know what that fee was for but I will find out! So at this point I was completely aggravated beyond imagination and I agreed to pay the $49 inconvenience fee which brought my final cost to file well over $350.
I didn't have a babysitter on this particular day and I had no choice but to force my 2 year old to set through the entire process plus when I had made my appt I told them about my computer being attacked by a virus. They knew I had to beat the hacker to the filing process and knew I would agree to pay just about any amount just to keep someone from stealing my return. I simply wanted out of there so I agreed to whatever they said at a price that would later pick and gnaw at me. I'm extremely aggravated with Liberty because I feel they took advantage of my situation. They knew when I'd scheduled the appt that I was pressed to beat a thief from filing my taxes before I could get a chance to file. Plus they had to assume that I wouldn't make my child set through another process just like this somewhere else. I do feel that I beat a hacker from filing first but that Liberty beat me out of hundreds of hard earned dollars.
No, I didn't have to pay upfront but seriously that is about $250 more than I ever wanted and expected to pay. If I could stop this filing process and take my business elsewhere I would but the IRS tells me I can't do that. I wish I had held off because I firmly regret paying that amount more and more with each passing moment. I panicked and wasn't thinking clearly as I am right now. Go to a professional accountant, pay $100 to file your taxes and sleep comfortably at night unlike myself. I am seriously losing sleep over this entire experience. I want to add that Kayla was very understanding, nice and respectful. She did exactly what she was taught by Liberty training associates. Hats off to Kayla for clearing a paycheck and doing her job. I could not rip people off, take advantage of their circumstances and feel good about myself or my job come the next business day.
As far as I know, Liberty never paid that "friend" who recommended I use Liberty the $50 they promised to pay. Plus that "friend" nearly fell out of their seat when they found out how much I had to pay to use Liberty Tax Services and sincerely apologize for recommending them to me. As the saying goes, you get me once shame on you, get me twice shame on me. I will never under any circumstances EVER use this service again!!?? I do not recommend Liberty to anyone so beware to all who may be considering using them this tax season!!

When I went to Liberty Tax Service place today, to get my taxes done, I expected a tax preparer fee as one would when going to any tax preparer be it H&R Block, Jackson Hewitt, etc. However, I didn't expect to pay $200 more than last year. They said it was due to a few reasons – I made a little more than in 2015 and it costs more to have moving expenses deducted. Having my moving expenses deducted (showing them my moving receipts from U-Haul, hotel stays, etc.) cost me almost $100 more in tax preparer fees. What BS. If this is what the well-known tax preparers do after it has been filed – not telling you the reasons for the extra charges, then I won't ever consider using one of them again in the future. Wrong to charge extra for moving expenses.

Oh my goodness Liberty Tax is running a huge scam and I hope they get what they deserve. I've always filed my own taxes for free but needed a loan so I applied for their loan. They told me they would charge me around $250 and that I would not know if approved until after signing to file my taxes with them. First of all, they are falsely advertising NO FEE part of the loan/tax refund advance. There is a fee. It's a $49.99 bank fee. Of course it get charged out of your income tax refund. Second, you MUST file your taxes and sign to pay the tax preparation fee (minimum $250-$500) in order to APPLY for the advance loan. And THIRD liberty tax says the advance is not credit based nor do they know qualification criteria.
Liberty tax is full of LIES. I told them I was only interested in getting my taxes done with them for the advance. They told me the cost I thought the $250 would be okay, turned out I have to pay $450 for the forms they have to use with my tax situation (Head of household, 1 dependent, 1 W-2 - super simple, I've always done myself for free). I agreed because the tax office owner informed me the advance would be submitted for approval, and she said people rarely got denied. She said she only had a couple of people ever get denied. And that I would know within 24 hrs after filing my taxes. And that if I was denied I would get a letter explaining why. And that Liberty Tax has no idea of reason for denial because the decision is not made with credit check.
So after I leave, a couple of hours later I get an email saying I was NOT approved. I couldn't wait for the denial letter to arrive so I could find out on paper why I wasn't approved. What the letter states is the reason for denial: AMOUNT OF TAX CREDITS. And then a paragraph about how they ran a credit check through Hesperian and decision was made in whole or in part through that credit reporting agency. What the world does AMOUNT OF TAX CREDITS mean??? My whole refund is basically the EITC and additional child tax credit. It make no sense whatsoever other than it's a scam and I wish I would have turned around from this awful place. Bad company. Don't do your taxes with them. At least not if you can use TurboTax. Use TurboTax. Hands down way easier and better. Times a million.

I have used Liberty Tax for a long time. My returns were always accurate and easy... So I referred 2 people this year in the hopes that I would get the nice $200 referral bonus ($200 goes a long way when you have 2 kids and one income). I waited patiently for them to contact me, and after a few weeks of waiting I went in to the store to find out what the process is for getting the bonus as advertised. I was told ''the bookkeeper has to approve all referrals and it should be ready in a week." Well a week came and went. I went back in to speak to them again (different person) "the bookkeeper has to approve all referrals and it should be ready in a week." This was the response from ANYONE I spoke to.
Today is May 24th... I referred BOTH people in the first week of Feb. I called the home office and their response was "I'm sorry, but all locations are franchises. I will send them a notice to call you and sort this out. If they are telling you that they are working on it, I would just wait because I am sure that they will be getting back to you asap." I asked the woman on the phone "So, you want me to talk to them at the office I have been speaking to this whole time? It has gotten me no where and that is why I am calling you." "Sorry sir, the only thing I can do is ask them to call you to sort this out. There is nothing I can do on my end." Still no call from my office...
To me, this amounts to false advertising, and bad business. Don't trust these people with your information. If they are charging almost 600 to do a tax return per person, they can afford to pay out the referrals that they give you the coupons to give your friends. If extra money was taken out of the money you were suppose to get back then the IRS did that because Libertys home office handles the bank and money end of all of it. If you had to go back because of signature issues it could be that the name you wrote on your data sheet isnt whats on your social security card and sometimes theres technical difficulties and sometimes people have bad days. Everyone was friendly and was accepting to everything I had and listened to me. Not all of the locations are the same. Its a franchise so theres different owners and guidelines. I loved filing with Liberty and will be back to file with them again. P.S. All Liberty tax preparers are put through a tax class and are certified to do your taxes. I told her I was a single mom and needed to stay within my budget (which I gave her) and I pretty much already knew where I stood and my budget. I didn't have all needed documents and she tried to still get me to file and do numbers and told me to GUESSTIMATE!! They are SERIOUSLY INCOMPETENT and DON'T KNOW what they are doing! They tried to SCAM me on fees after I told her my budget and LIED as well as telling me to "Estimate" amounts!! They tried to KEEP my documents and copied them!! I had to get seriously FIRM with them to get my documents back! NEVER GO HERE! They ARE NOT CPA or TAX Pros!! SCAMMERS AND Liars!!

Fine line between unscrupulous and fraudulent practices. Trust your instincts if you are concerned. I am ashamed I did not research them like you. I've done simple returns but now they are becoming very complex. I paid $4000 in taxes for 2013. I questioned my thoroughness. I decided to go to Liberty for 2014 returns and also a review of 2012 and 2013. I was told not to redo past returns because it would trigger an audit. I realize now that she had no idea how to do an itemized return. When I picked it up I began questioning what she had done. I was there 4 hours, late into the night.
She screwed it up so bad I ended up with letters from the IRS for several months and finally received my refund at the end of August. I am ashamed I did not inquire about the fee. I was charged $800+. What?? I questioned the fee. She shrugged her shoulders and casually said she would cut it in half. I then realized I was being taken. It's a sleazy retail scheme. Quote a really high price, and then lower so the customer thinks they got a bargain. Next day I was in the ER because my family thought I was having a heart attack. After many tests they concluded it was a panic attack. High stress is not uncommon in my business but this has never happened. DO NOT ignore the reviews.

My dad and me decided to try Liberty Tax service and the one lady there took 2 hr 45 minutes to do a tax filing for my dad who is retired and only gets a pension and has a small mutual fund gain. The lady had to call someone about 4 times at least (I lost count) to get help to fill out his form and she charged $383. Outrageous, incompetence and ripoff. Never use them.

I went to liberty tax on feb. 31, 2016 to file my taxes. Let me just say People Be Aware. Don't ever go there. I was charge $600 to file. Which I ask them how much it cost. They lied and said $25, which is the bank they use fee. Then I was promise $50. Every excuse in the world. 'Oh the guy not here. Come back in a few minutes.' I waited. Came back 30mins. 'Oh he still not here.' They lie about everything. Let me add. The person who did my taxes. Didn't put me as head of household. So they had to do them again. I freakin hate liberty tax. Don't ever go there.

This is the third year having Liberty Tax in Waxahachie, TX to do my taxes. I had prepared Excel spreadsheets on all of my expenses in category for each expenses... The tax consultant never ran figures to check my accuracy or if each item was taxable. He just plugged in the numbers I had provided. After completion, he advised me that I get a refund, but owed Liberty Tax $502 filing fee. When I asked about the fee, he said that last year when I paid $50 that that was a promotional fee. He said that he had no control over the fee that is charged. Now keep in mind, I had done Excel Spreadsheets and he ONLY PLUGGED in the numbers provided. Also, he questioned an income amount for a bank from 2014 taxes and I advised him that that was not income but interest. They had to amend the 2014 taxes and I receive a refund.
I had to wait for the amendment and it took me three trips to the office to pick up paperwork to mail after I had been told the amendment would be done the next day and I could pick up. This was on a Saturday and finally got paperwork on the following Tuesday. While in office the owner of the company was there and was asked for assistance from the lady trying to print the 2014 tax forms. He had also the same problem she was having. I waited for a long period of time and told the owner I would come back after running some errands.
I waited and went back on Wednesday morning and was told that the person who filed my taxes would not be in until 3:00 pm that afternoon and I would have to come back. I went back on Thursday and was finally able to pick up tax papers. I had spoken to the owner regarding the $502 and advised him that I felt the fee was outrageous and that I could understand if I was filing a business tax return. He apologized and said that he would do my 2016 tax return for free. Now what is wrong with this picture? I will never use Liberty Tax again and advise anyone else to think twice before using this Tax Service.

Liberty Tax charged me $659-$150 (manager discount). I asked why the excessive fee, he said he used different schedule forms. I was in shocked and I told him that 2014 was less forms used and I was charged way less then. Never ever deal with them next year....

Let me start off by saying I only went to them because of the $750 EZ loan they were offering and let me tell you it's complete crap and a lie! I visit my local office at 6940 Lee Hwy suite 103 Chattanooga TN. I sat down with them and explained my situation on why I was using them this year as opposed to doing it myself like every other year! After I was through I asked what the criteria was for the advance and was told that they don't even know but I should be approved with no problems due to the amount of my refund. So like an idiot I went through with it. After they were done inputting all of my information which included 1 w2 I was informed that I would be charged $422.00 for preparation fee. Why in the hell did 1 w2 cost me that much to be filled.
Well after she told me that, I again asked about the loan criteria because I really needed the money ASAP, in which again I was told they don't even know and again I was told I should have no issue! Well about 24 hours later I received an e-mail saying that I was declined. So I was robbed out of $422.00 dollars only be told I was declined for the initial reason I went there in the first place. Well after receiving my actual return I received an additional w2 that I had totally forgotten about. So the day I picked my return up I took the w2 with me and asked them what I needed to do about it. She then explained that we would have to file an amended return in order for the new w2 to be filled!
I asked how much that was going to cost to do thinking it wouldn't be a lot considering the initial $422.00 fee I had already paid these crooks. Well I was wrong. I was told that it was an additional $180.00 preparation fee. So I asked could I file it and have the fee taken out of the return from that w2. Basically I was laughed at and informed that the $180.00 fee is an out of pocket fee in which I would have to pay before the amended return could be processed!! So when all is said and done I was denied for an EZ loan that apparently NO ONE was able to get, robbed out of $422.00 dollars, and now about to be taken for an additional $180.00. The total coming to $702.00 for them to prepare a total of 2 w2 forms.
I will never, ever, ever be using these crooks again and I pray and hope to god that someone figures out a way to expose and sue the hell out of y'all!! Shame on you as a BUSINESS to prey on people who work hard all year and try to get an advance on their taxes a little early to help with whatever they need it for! Also how in the hell as a Business do you offer an EZ advance loan and don't even know what the criteria is?? I'm sorry but that in itself is complete and total **. I hope that my review will reach people before they end up making the same mistake I did!

I went to the Clemmons NC office and a woman named Kathleen did my taxes. I have 5 children. She needed all of their social security cards. We just recently moved and I explained they were in a box in a storage unit. I had prior years returns with all the children's numbers listed so they are definitely legit! She said they needed the physical card. Ok. I called the SS office and was informed the only way to get a SS card was to bring current official school transcripts. Ok, another trip. Finally after me driving around town for 2 days I was able to be issued new SS cards for the kids.
My refund was just over $5,000 so I didn't understand why I would be receiving so much less. Kathleen said tax prep fees. I said "Well, how much are those?" I was thinking $200 MAX. She said $642.00!!! What!?! That is ridiculous. I felt so taken advantage of. I asked why they were so much. I had a simple return. Was that just their flat fee? She said it was because I had "so many forms". But I didn't, I just had a page for each child and the only thing it said was their name and SS number!! I felt like someone had just robbed me! I worked hard for my money and they did nothing to deserve $642! I should have just done it myself online for free. I feel like a donkey.
Kathleen asked me if I wanted the $750 "advance" from my own tax refund. I had not heard of this and this was not the reason I went to Liberty. Liberty tax was about a 2 min drive from my home. So by default I went with them. Kathleen explained that I would just have to pay a $44.95 advance fee to receive that $750 the following morning. It sounded good, I figured I would just pay that week's bills with the advance. When I got home a few hours later I had an email saying my application had been denied. I didn't know I was applying for anything or that it could even be denied. She told me my check would be waiting the next morning!
I called to inquire and was transferred to the manager Lynn. I wanted to make sure I would be credited back my $44.95 since I wasn't approved. She told me that the $44.95 has nothing to do with the advance and that fee goes straight to Regions bank so they can deposit my refund into my checking account. Why would they charge me almost fifty dollars when the IRS is direct depositing my refund into my personal account? So Lynn said she would speak with the owner because of the miscommunication to see if they could do anything. Guess what... she never called me back.
The next day I went on the IRS "where's my refund" page. It said my return had been received and was being processed. A few days later I looked again and it no longer said that. I was concerned and called Liberty. I spoke with Shayla or Shana. I couldn't really understand her. She verified that it wasn't coming up and that was strange. She said she had to let Lynn the manager know and Lynn would be calling me back. That was last week! Still no call from Lynn and the IRS page has no information for me! I paid $642 for this?! I still have not received my refund! Don't go to Liberty Tax!!! It's a ridiculous scam. They prey on us.
