Extremely unethical. Do not use for disability insurance. Had a valid medical claim for over $900,000 but they used an unrelated agreement with my employer to strip me of my disability rights. Will do anything unethical to get out of paying your disability benefits.

I have my 401k with Voya and it’s a nightmare. After 60 years of age, I took a no-penalty distribution. All seemed ok. They had no option for ACH (turns out they don’t tell you if you use electronic forms you might get that option lol) and have to send large checks in the regular mail. Not certified. No signature. The website still tells me this was completed on 4/23 and a check would be to me by or before 5/6. Guess what? All a lie. They didn’t process the check until a week later and it’s still never come. Now, a stop payment has to be done and I’m told this can take 8-9 business days before another check to be issued, which would then require another week. I relied on their word to make commitments and their word is worth nothing.

I have been paying for critical illness insurance even though I’ve been very healthy because my wife is unable to work with severe Lupus, So I have the highest level since I’m 62 and 3 of my 4 grandparents died from stroke or cardiac issues. I unexpectedly had a serious cardiac event, combined with a blood sugar over 400 and under extreme duress. My doctors have said due to the combination of diseases and family history I’m at high risk and doctors won’t approve me to return to work. Which I am now trying to get long term disability. Dean at Voya Critical Illness said I don’t qualify unless I need a heart transplant and the co-morbid diseases only count if they are preventing me from getting a heart transplant.

Essentially facing death, so for $100 a month I could have gotten a $300,000 life insurance policy vs. a minute chance of getting $20,000, basically they sell it as no questions asked if you need money for extensive medical bills this is a great option. My wife’s autoimmune disease led us to Mayo Clinic for a chance of slowing the rate, 26 appointments later they offer no further help and so I requested access to the $10k I has my wife covered for and guess what??? Lupus isn’t covered. We were stuck with $10s of thousands of bills with zero assistance. Spread the word #voyascam and shame on Universal Health Services for offering a plan that rarely comes through.

If your employer uses Voya good luck. My former employer rolled us into voya and it's been a nightmare. The first month they didn't have my records transferred. The next month when I was able to log in none of my retirement was in there. So it's been a month of non stop calling them to try to figure out what happened. The customer support is never a help as they always tell me to call someone else. I spent countless hours on the phone now and still don't have my plan correct. This is only the start. Do not use voya.

Horrible experience. I have had to call in every week for 5 months trying to figure out how to get my money switched to a different account. They have had my address wrong in their system and will not allow me to move my money until my address is updated. I sent the forms in 5 months ago to get my address changed. They keep telling me they are trying to figure out why it is still incorrect in their system since they have all the paperwork needed but still 5 months later, it has not been changed. I have called in with my financial advisor 4 times as another ear to hear the issues with my account address. It is unreal and ridiculous. I do not have an hour a week to sit on the phone to call in and then be told I have to wait another week to give them time to fix it, only to be told they still haven’t resolved the issue. They are able to see all my calls and conversations but yet nothing is being resolved. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone.

I have never had a more awful experience than what is going on with Voya right now. I am trying to move my money from a 401K to a different company and I need my name changed in the account. It has been over a month of phone calls speaking to customer service representatives who escalate tickets and pass me to supervisors who do absolutely nothing to help me. I have sent in all required documentation over a month ago, they sent me a letter to my new name acknowledging the change but state they “have not actually processed it yet.” Every person tells me they’ll call me back within 48 hours. Weeks go by and I keep calling for help and I’m at a point where I don’t know what to do to get my money out of this absolutely awful establishment. Do not get involved with Voya!!!!

Do you like talking to India? Because you're going to be talking to India, and no one is going to be able to help you. No one will be qualified to answer even your most basic account questions, and you will spend copious amounts of time on the phone just bringing each new customer service rep up to the same speed your did with the last one you spoke to, only to hear how they can't help. Getting any kind of personalized service is out of the question. I'm trying to do some rollovers of existing IRAs into my current Voya 401k plan and it might as well be reinventing the wheel. It's been two months of trying to get these rollovers in there and the frustration of having to call this company every few days, because they certainly will NEVER call you to tell you something's incorrect, is unreal.

Filed a claim for my deceased wife's life insurance. Numerous calls, numerous emails, numerous letters mailed. After sending required information online and sending the same information by mail they would wait weeks, then state Voya did not receive your required information. Because they delay, delay, delay. I filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau and with the Pennsylvania Insurance Department, and they still delayed my wife's death benefit for over 60 days. This delay tactic is intentional, because the longer they have your money, the better off they are. My wife also had a life insurance policy with Prudential. With Prudential I had her insurance check less than two weeks after I contacted Prudential by phone. So if someone is contemplating a life insurance policy with Voya, tell your beneficiary "don't expect to pay for the funeral arrangement on time"...This is the short condensed version of my experience with Voya. To make a claimant go through multiple obstacles after losing their cherished loved one is incomprehensible. You crave good things after a bad loss.

I have never filed a claim in my entire life. I'm the type that goes to work sick or not and literally looked down on people that called out... I see that I was being too hard on others now and I'm sorry for that... My cardiologist filled out the forms that Voya requested and checked off all the boxes and I was still denied two heart procedures later and denied yet again... I really hate that this experience has changed my views on certain things but it has and now I see why people are so angry at these big corporations that hurt you when you need them most...

I advised Voya 2 years ago that I was no longer with that advisor. They told me I would need to sign up with one of their advisors move money over. After receiving such horrible service, I decided to move all of my funds out of Voya completely and move to a new financial institution. But when it came to my check it was supposed to be here in 2 days, but it was a holiday so it was supposed to come in that Monday after the holiday, but they sent it to my old address. How do they send me a code to my new address, but send my check to my old address which is supposed to take 2 days to get to me. It cost me $50 for that 2 day. They told me I had to wait another additional five to 10 days to get my check to the correct address. These people are crazy. I don't even know how they have a retirement company. They need to really organize this company. They should email the customers exactly what they did with them that day, and who exactly you talk to that day. Every other 401K company does that. I have been fighting for 6 months with this company to receive a pay out for a tax sheltered annuity that my husband took out with this company over 15 years ago. I have given them all the requested information but each time they tell me it has to go back through to reprocess. First, I knew nothing about this account when my husband took it out. Three and a half years after his death I get a notice from Voya about the account. I filled it out and returned, only to be told I filled out incorrectly. So I asked them to send me another form. Voya said they couldn't because I might be a fraud trying to cash in on this account. My next phone was a conference call with my lawyer. Voya agreed to resend paperwork. My lawyer and I filled it out together. And so I waited another 10 days for processing. I was then told I needed a statement from probate stating whether or not there was an open estate.

I got that and sent it along with a copy of my marriage certificate so they would know that we were actually married. And was told it would be another 10 days for reprocessing. Next they tell me I have to have my husband's previous employer fill out a sign off sheet. I spent the better part of a day, locating a person who could help me with the sign off sheet only to be told that this previous employer was no longer responsible for these accounts and had notified Voya through a lawyer that they couldn't sign off on this sheet. The employer was nice enough to send me an email to, which I forwarded to Voya, stating they were not responsible for this account and that Voya had been notified of this years ago. So back to processing again for 10 days.

Now they state that they don't have this letter. So I resent and waited again. Next they tell me I have to have the sign off sheet and I read word for word what the letter from previous employer stated. Again back to reprocessing. Now I'm being told that they need for this CFO at previous employer to call them to inform Voya that they are not responsible for account. I told them they had already been notified with the email I forwarded them and said asked to speak to a supervisor. No supervisor on duty and it would take 2-3 days for supervisor to return my call, but in the meantime it would go back to processing and I could check back in 10 days. This is ridiculous!!!! For such critical financial cheques, Voya should use UPS or FEDEX which has tracking numbers and are delivered at door step with proper verification but Voya choose to send via USPS.

The reason for loan was some personal emergency but now I have to go through a process of requesting for another cheque which I am pretty confident that it will take more than 7 days to disburse. My mother had an account from another company that Voya purchased of merged with and mishandled in account information. She invested via her employer and Voya linked her account with another employer. She received a letter telling her she had to withdraw funds in accordance to IRS guidelines. She attempted to withdraw those funds, she needed the employer to approve the release of funds. Unfortunately, they had the wrong employer on file and they told Voya that Information. We tried for months to get them to communicate with the correct employer and that probably took 2 months. It amazes me that a financial company cannot do their due diligence with investors accounts.

Once Voya realized it was an error on their part, they handed it off to a local representative to figure it out. The VP for her former employer had to finally get something accomplished. We even tried to submit a copy of her last 2 pay stubs but Voya wouldn’t take them. Most of the representatives were polite but one person was so dismissive it was outraging. How would they like to have to fight to help a parent get their money. You would think that once they acknowledged their mistake, they would expedite the process and be apologetic but no. They couldn’t be bothered to fix the problem and handed it off to a local representative to figure out how to fix it. Shame on Voya. My mother has been retired for a long time now and it was very difficult and hard on her to have to go through this unacceptable incompetence and lack of empathy for helping someone.

I have an FSA through my employer. It is a complex story, but after 3 months and many phone calls and emails these people continue to hold the balance of my FSA money hostage. I submitted every document they requested. I spoke to account rep after account rep and finally had my human resources department get involved. In an email from a Voya rep to HR they blamed my use of their issued debit card for the reason the accounting was not processed correctly by them. How about providing up front, comprehensive information to customers on use? These people were unfriendly, unaccommodating and certainly don't believe in 'the customer is always right'. I only pray my employer does not use them in the new fiscal year.

They once denied a payment and then supplied a link that was supposed to explain why. The link lead to a blank page. Another time my card was denied at the dentist. I tried to call them, got no answer, not even put on hold, just nothing. I had to call HR. If you run into a problem with them, and you will, don't bother trying to deal with it yourself. Then I keep proving that I am me: yes, I'm calling from my authorized phone number. Here is my full name. My PIN. My last 4 digits of the SSN. But if I request any information it cannot be shared due to it being a potential security risk. They love mailing things though. I want to transfer my funds to another service. How is this handled? Little did I know how right she was. It has been over 6 months since I submitted my first documentation and the company keeps coming back with "we need a different form filled out." Their claims forms are numerous on their website. After asking for another form to be filled out, they asked if I wanted the form emailed to me. With over 100 claims forms to choose from, yes if you need a specific form filled out, wouldn't you think it would be common courtesy and common sense to send the specific one?

So they finally send the correct form. Once they get that they say they are sending to the claims processing for review. They take 30 days to get back to you (at least). Then they come back and say they need another form. You send it back and they take another 30 days. Now they are asking for paperwork we already submitted. It is a tedious process in which their advertising of being the most "ethical" company and pay out on individual life insurance claims take 5 to 10 days is a flat out lie. They drag their feet every step of the way. Typical insurance companies these days. This is only one of the issues I have had with them. In a second policy they said the policy was not paid on its due date. We are having to go through the reinstatement process with them again. Customer service rarely gets back to you. It's so corrupt. Sent it, confident we would get this done with as little hassle as possible this time. Even their rep said UB04 is all they need.

Here's an absolute shock, after the ten day waiting period now all of the sudden they need another form. These giant hospitals take forever to get forms sent out and Voya knows that. I had applied to take a loan out against my 403B with Omni/TSA, my third party administrator. Voya said that Omni was not my third party adminstrator (which it is) and would not give any data to Omni. So, I had to send Omni my Voya statement and once Omni received it, they faxed VOYA a request for my spark data. Voya did not comply. So I called Voya asking for them to send my Spark data to Omni. After 25 minutes, being placed on hold numerous times, and the lady not even knowing what spark data was, I was told by her that Omni had never called Voya to request the data. So I called Omni back stating that Voya stated that they never received a call asking for my spark data, and Omni stated that they sent a couple faxes to them. According to Voya, they need a phone call, not a fax. Voya is dragging their feet with money that I need from my 403b. I am thinking about rolling my 403b somewhere else.

Voya Financial provides the Basic and “Buy-Up” Coverages for company employees eligible for any company benefits. Not only are they unable to determine what coverage exists, but also communicate poorly with Human Resources (at my employer) causing them to now twice notify me that I have been terminated. 15 days ago, the claim representative told me he finally has sufficient information to complete my claim and the only two possible outcomes were “Approved” or “More information Required”. Somehow I found a voice message from last week that never showed as a missed call from the claim representative stating a determination had been made on my claim.

As I found the voicemail over a weekend and I am in a different time zone, I sent an email to the representative asking him to call me Monday. I got an auto response stating he was out of the office through midweek. I called the office and requested information from the person who answered my call and was informed NO DETERMINATION WAS REFLECTED IN MY CLAIM. I reached out to my company Human Resources Department who informed me that the claim was DENIED and I had to report to work in 24 hours or I would be terminated for job abandonment.

Not only do I have torn ligaments in my knee but also have no cartilage in said knee, multiple bone spurs, and a substantial Baker's Cyst. The only option was complete knee replacement, but I was informed at the pre-operative physical I have 4 serious cardiac issues and would not survive sedation. I have seen 8 specialists in 4 months without any outcome other than inpatient testing and “Good Luck”.

I now have gone 6 months without any form of income, have just been in eviction court, and my life is completely upside down but the only two outcomes are NOT the outcome I received. Voya is worse than the worst; I can handle anything but lies about what to expect. I’ve begged for assistance but with no income, the United Way can’t help. I wish I had just been given the reality of claims are handled when they are handled, not some false information that claims are reviewed by service commitments within 10 days. I’m beyond 10 weeks and still receiving false information.

I was promised the check by Jan 2nd which is ruffly 2 weeks after I got notice the check was disbursed. It will not be here by the 2nd. I'm a little lost as to why my money (my money) is treated like an informal letter as if it doesn't matter. Also they closed my loan on the following day of the request which I also am not happy with since the stocks fell. It seems Voya is outdated in their services, or maybe is managed poorly.

Hard to understand why they didn’t continue to administer in-house, except that they must have received indirect compensation from Voya’s active management fees which Voya pushes INCESSANTLY. After I retired I was annoyed that even though I had substantial funds left in a “stable value” fund (you can’t get a stable value fund in an IRA, hence I left the money in the 401K vs. rolling over to Fidelity where I have the rest of my qualified savings), Voya still charges me an annual administration fee (not a big deal, just an annoyance, on principle, which I tried to get waived unsuccessfully).

Finally last week I decided to just move the money to Fidelity and was ready with wire instructions - but the Voya rep told me they ONLY send checks for distributions! And if I want to get the check in less than two weeks, I have to pay $20 to send via UPS! And it will still take a week! This is a very large amount of money and I can’t afford to have a check lost in the holiday mails. Ridiculous!! All adds up to a schlocky outfit - my advice - roll over your money elsewhere asap if you change jobs or retire.

I opted in to Voya Financial through my well-known, reputable full-time employer at open enrollment last December to start my selections January 1, 2022... (told that no changes can be made unless a life-altering event with documentation). At the time, I chose to cover not only myself but also my spouse. Subsequently, year to date I've paid premiums every two weeks deducted out of my paycheck to total approximately $912 and counting... Remember... I cannot stop or make adjustments to the selections.. but be that as it may, one of the benefits offered was that of hospital indemnity.

Told by Voya Financial representative by phone that if at any time being admitted to a hospital, this coverage would pay $500 the first day and $200 if in ICU and $100 for any additional days confined to the hospital. Well as it so happened, my spouse suffering from Peripheral artery disease was admitted to University of Penn in Phila on or about June 4, 2022. At onset with admissions, we were informed that the deductible right off the cuff before any surgical procedure that there would be a $1000 deductible... Wow seriously? Hmm okay well at least I have this hospital indemnity coverage through Voya... right?

I was also informed by Voya that to process the claim an allowance of approximately 150 or 180 days would be allotted. Hmm okay well I kept asking my spouse to have his surgical physician complete the mandatory claim form as to also fill out two other claim forms on our part. He kept procrastinating but knowing my mannerisms and concern, I decided to make the implementation and finally got the physician to fill out what was needed... A week or so later followed up with Voya for status by phone, told that since he was not confined for a minimum of what was required... 20 hours, but rather we were at the hospital for approximately 8 hours on the scheduled date of surgery that this is not going to be approved and/or compensated. And I have a major issue with this denial as there was and has not ever been any fine print on any of their policy asset sheet/pages that stipulate this 20-hour minimum hospital stay.

Hospitals these days choose to push them out, shove them out as quickly as possible so as to free up space for more patients. It's the way it is anymore... so regardless of how they process patients my spouse did get admission and surgery for a stent/artery bypass... and not for nothing, since January 1, 2022 I have literally funded this coverage to almost a grand and they are excusing themselves? They are piece of you know what... and if any administrative employed Voya Financial person should happen to read this, trust me. You will be taken to court because you are unethical and you have officially messed with the wrong person...

I hope you pray and pray hard because I am not okay with being declined... You are well on to being sued but good.. trust me. You can either honor and pay the $500 for hospital admission, or pay the premiums for this coverage since inception... or pay all of the above and attorneys fees plus compensation for stress and undue hardship.. so ** big time you **.

We had paid without problem for over a decade but when we decided to start auto withdrawals for our accounts my premium was withdrawn (mind you this was after 45 minute phone call simply to get the process started) but my husband’s was not. This was almost two months ago and his premium has still not been withdrawn. Between the two of us we called back every week since we were worried after looking at his account online and it notified us that a lapse was pending. The last time I talked to customer service a representative politely told me, “Don’t worry Ma’am. I see you have called back three or four times. His policy will not lapse.” Cut to three weeks later and online it said his policy had lapsed.

I called customer service and they said, point blank, “Your husband’s policy has lapsed.” No kidding! I had to go into all the details of explaining what we had experienced even though they had all their notes there. I was on the phone with them for over an hour. We were told it would take 35 to 40 days to reinstate the policy even though they admitted it was due to a system glitch on their end.

They should understand that when it comes to life insurance policies, it is a very serious matter with a lot of emotions and fear bound up in the process. They need to get it together to put their customers at ease and have better communication within the company. Also, for simple matters like a change of address and the set up of automatic payments there should be an option for that on their website and there is not. How is that possible in 2022? Voya needs to train their customer service representatives better, immediately fix any glitches in the system without making the customer call back repeatedly for reassurance, and seriously update their website.

I overnight it to them and the tracking number said they received it but once again they said they didn't receive it, this company is very unprofessional and if I could I would get my money out and go somewhere else.

They send the request to a third party to approve and they are not allowed to tell you who or give contact information. Basically it's been a month of waiting and still nothing and there's nothing I can do. Honestly I feel they are waiting for the value to go down before finally approving it. I emailed Voya several times and they told me to call the emoyers Voya representative. Who in turn just told me they can't tell me anything. I've never had such a poor experience.

Voya has misdirected me, misrepresented information, and lastly has sent me incorrect forms three times. According to a supervisor, the "correct" form I needed sent, completed, submitted, and then two weeks later, I received an email stating it was "an old form," and the correct/new form hadn't been created yet, so nothing could be done! There is NO recourse, no one higher to intervene or help unravel this.

Once more, I am on hold (again), waiting for the supervisor who assured me Tuesday, I would get a return with updates in 48 hours. It's been 72 hours, and I'm waiting to hear yet another falsehood or misleading directive. Why are we using companies like this to administer public servant's (teachers, state workers) retirement? I have been thoroughly disappointed with Voya. I have been in a financial strain for a while, so I decided to take a loan from my life insurance policy. I called on 7/11/22 and completed the paperwork. I was told that I should be receiving a letter in the next five days. However, I did not receive anything. I called again on 7/14/22 and was told that my check had been mailed. I am four hours from Atlanta where the check is coming from. But, on 7/20/22 I still had not received the check. I called again and was reprimanded for the number of times that I've called to inquire about my check. I was told that "a realistic expectation" would be to expect it on 7/28/22 or 7/29/22. I'm four hours away from where the check was mailed and it's going to take 15 days to get to me! I don't expect to have this money anytime soon.

Voya told me that I can't look up my account online because they don't provide that service and ACH deposit was never offered. I asked for a tracking number and was denied that information as well. If they were honest with me about not being willing to send me my money, I would have made other arrangements. This has only put me into a deeper level of financial strain. They really need to work on their customer service.

April 2 2022 we made a request to withdraw funds (six figures). It is July 17 and we are still not close: Going on 4 months. All transactions done by mail. Not one person has been able to give us a step by step. We find out there is still a problem after a couple of weeks have gone by and no action has occurred. We had to do live letters to transfer funds from one internal account to another. They took the money on June 22, two more letters later, it finally arrived in our account on around July 7. Two plus weeks for an internal transfer.

We wanted to withdraw the money for cash to buy property. They have lost a fair sum during the April 2 to July 15 (to date). If they keep control of the money after our request to withdraw... who is responsible for the loss. To note: while the monies arrived in the account on or around July 15 we are no closer to obtaining funds. We are still on square one of April 2nd. Reaching out to them... what a waste of time. It appears to be a delay tactic. Nobody can run this poorly without intent unless you are totally incompetent. If I had responsibility for property of another person, held it, lost or destroyed part of it while in my possession: would I have a legal issue arising? I can't rent a car without taking responsibility for my actions.

While they are generally polite, they are very poorly trained. You consistently get incorrect, incomplete, or contradictory information. Their arbitrary rules are confusing to everyone - including them! - And make everything unnecessarily difficult. Taking distributions is a nightmare!!! Again, EVERYTHING is unnecessarily challenging and frustrating. Voya's attitude is that it's their world and you're just living in it.

I retired on 11/30/2021. Family dealing with COVID-19 long-term health problems and many unexpected never-ending bills. Contacted Voya, and submitted all required documents. Submitted forms twice. Also, this is a company that has been withdrawing money from my bank account for many years. I have not changed any of my banking information. However, I still had to get papers filled out and send them back to Voya for verification of the same bank. They already had this information. I waited and called several times. I was finally informed that an administrator had not responded which was causing a delay. That was all needed before releasing my money which was a requested termination.

I waited to hear from the company and received no contact. I checked online for any messages and found nothing. I called again and a representative strived to assist me. The representative was very knowledgeable and explained the situation to me and offered suggestions as to what I could do next to get my money. I had to call the insurance company I retired from for their approval before they would release the money. I called my past employer and explained to the insurance person what I needed. That person submitted the form for money to be released to Voya. Again I waited for Voya to respond. I called about two weeks later Voya to check status.

I was informed that my past employee did send the form to them but had not indicated my retirement date and they had faxed the insurance another form to complete again. I have not heard from anyone since chasing people to get my money. I have been trying to get my money since May 9, 2022. I have requested a termination of any/all of my funds connected to this company. I still haven't received anything from this company no letter, email, text, or message posted online informing me of their actions or instructions explaining what I need to do to completely close the account other than what has already been done. In the meantime, I am having to face many unnecessary hardships to the point I am having to rely on others just to keep my home.

I need my money to pay mortgage payments. All they have to do is deposit my money into my account. I have already signed that form. Why is this company holding onto money that is not their money to keep? One other thing, I also notice that my funds started decreasing after I made the request for money. After all of the years, my money has been with this company, they have never displayed any decrease in my funds. This company was a part of my employer plan. I am considering getting a legal aid lawyer to resolve this issue. Not mad at anyone, just disappointed. Have too many problems to be angry at this particular time. I am trying to stay afloat and keep a place to live for me and my family. Perhaps Voya has no empathy for people like us who are still trying to recover from situations that are beyond our control.

Was told I have to sign a document (had not be told this before). Where is document? Must be signed and faxed. Finally locate document and send back via efax. Voya cancels application because I took too long (only 2 days had passed and the documentation said I'd have 30 days to complete paperwork). New application started. Was told a check was sent via UPS for an extra fee of $50. No tracking number available. No check arrived via UPS.

Phoned Voya. Was told actually check was sent ACH. My bank showed no record of this. Phoned Voya. Was told there was a "problem" with the bank. Phoned bank. No problems to report. Phoned Voya. Was told the ACH was denied and money would go to a third-party who would then mail a check. Which third party? Voya didn't know. No way to track where the money was. Phoned bank. They show no record of an ACH and no record of having denied an ACH to my account from Voya. Phoned Voya. No, money is with a secret third-party and a check will be mailed out. What secret third party? They could not say.

Phoned Voya. Actually, the secret third party is State Street Financial in Boston. Phoned State Street Financial. They have no information about Voya transactions and if they had sent a check, Voya would know of it. Phoned Voya. No, they wouldn't know of it. Phoned Voya (many more times). Asked to speak with a supervisor. No can do, but one will phone you asap (that was 10 days ago). Phoned Voya. Was told the issue would be "escalated" and given "high priority" and I would receive a call-back in 24-48 hours. No call back. Ever. Finally a check arrives yesterday, dated 2 weeks prior to my first call to Voya to inquire about the check status.

Summary: Worst customer service experience. Ever. I would sooner try to communicate with fish than talk with Voya customer service again. Complete disregard for customers. Complete inability to provide even the most basic information. Avoid at all costs.

So, our central air went out. In NC, in spring time. The HVAC guy told us it would be $4500 out the door for a new system. No problem. I called Voya, and got the information to pay off a small balance on a previous loan, so I could get another loan for the $4500. I have been with the same company for almost 25 years, and have quite a bit in my 401k. It is my preference to use it from time to time as needed for emergencies to keep from draining our savings. I sent the check to pay off the balance of the old loan. I got a cashiers check ($8 fee) and sent it via overnight mail ($26) through the post office. The check arrived the next day and the payoff was reflected on my account the next business day. Things started to go downhill from there. I went online to get the new loan, and was met by a message that said I wasn’t eligible for a new loan for 8 days. Seriously? Why is there a waiting period to get your own money?

So we were stuck in a hot house for a week with no air. The HVAC guy let me know that the price would most likely go up. After the 8 days had passed, the loan was able to be processed. I paid an extra $50 to have it expedited, hoping it would come before the price of the unit doubled and we died of heat stroke. This was on a Thursday. Monday came and went. No check. Tuesday came. No check.

Finally, on Wednesday afternoon I got a UPS notification saying the label had been created for delivery the next day. They cut a check a check and sat on it for 5 days before it ever got mailed!! And that was “expedited.” So now, after a two week fiasco, trying to get my own money, we are finally getting a new AC unit, for $1000 more than the original quote. Never in my life, have I ever dealt with a more inept company. I have taken out several loans over the years, and I never remember it being this much of a headache. I’m certain there are better companies out there. Beware!!

In January of 2022 I decided to change my personal election from moderate risk to conservative risk. I went to the website and changed the election. In reviewing my account in early February I saw I had lost significant money and that I was still in the Voya managed funds. I emailed and called. Days later I got a callback. The person I talked to said she could see where I made the change but could not figure out why it did not change in the system. I went into my account again and changed the election.

As of March 7, 2022 my account was still in the managed funds and the YTD loss was 15%. If that rate sustains for 2022 it will annualize at a 60% loss. Additionally my contributions are quite lower than my employer records indicate. I had our employer records audited and they are correct. No one at Voya has contacted me to correct this additional problem.

Huge disappointment. We entrust professionals who have a fiduciary responsibility only to find my hard earned money not only not gaining but losing principal. The biggest frustration is no one at Voya attempting to remedy the problem. I do not hold them responsible for the market but I do hold them responsible for a technology platform not working and no support to correct the problem and stop the bleeding.

I emailed and got an email response that they would be in touch with me within two business days (which is too Long) but they have not even gotten with me in that time frame. I submitted a request to withdraw that money on Dec 10, 2021. That request was approved and noted in their automated system since Dec 13, 2021. The automated message said that the funds would be direct deposited on or before Dec 21, 2021. However, they couldn't manage to deposit that money early, and was not deposited on Dec 21, 2021 as promised.

I feel that they should pay me a penalty for failing to hold up their fiduciary duty to transfer my money to me. Further, when I contacted their customer service and explained the urgency and their failure to deliver as promised, they escalated my issue to a supervisor but that "someone would be in touch within 48". That puts it just before the holiday weekend and if I don't hear from them and have to recontact they'll probably make me wait an additional 48hrs which means I won't get my issue or my money resolved until next week. Why call it an emergency fund if they're going to take 2-3 weeks to give me my own money. But because they are a corporation they don't have to pay any consequences for failing to do their job in a timely manner. This abuse of customers has to stop. Voya does not deserve their #1 rating.

I called today and told by an agent, no that was an error on their part and there is no money in his account. Besides, the emotional side of receiving this statement and thinking I will be receiving the amount, they were just uncaring, oh well, no apology whatsoever.

Original Review: My husband died of a massive heart attack and had a retirement account through his job with Voya. My financial advisor helped me in submitting the paperwork to do a rollover to my 401. To suffice it to say Voya has lied and still have yet to give me my hardworking husband's money. First said needed a certain form which my financial advisor had sent numerous times. Then finally was told check was in mail. Guess what. It never showed. I called and was told they would send it UPS and guess what it still never showed and was told they had incorrect mailing address which when I asked what address they had for me it was the correct one! Just got off the phone with them and received the usual comments that they must train their customer service. To say, it is shameful and so dishonest.

As a retired school teacher, I am shocked at the the stalling tactics that the financial corporation Voya Financial is using to avoid giving their retired clients their well-earned retirement proceeds. Voya states that their policy is to issue clients requested withdrawals within 7 days of the request. Yet, since October 19, it has been three weeks since my initial request for a partial withdrawal. And I've been given nothing but lame excuses. After researching Voya Consumer Reviews online, I'm finding that there are several other retirees with the same experience.

After my initial complaint On November 1, Voya Pension 2 manager Kaylee, stated that I would have my two withdrawals no later than Tuesday November 8. The excuse was that the third-party approving agency, Penserv, sent an incomplete application. I had to call Voya Pension 2 again to get this information. I set up a conference call with Voya and Penserv. Penserv stated they sent all 5 pages. But the agreed tone again fax Voya another copy of my withdrawal application.

Today, November 8th I called once again. I was shocked to now hear from manager Aurelio ** that now the excuse is that "the fax was BACKWARDS!" They claim they can't read the fax. These excuses are unbelievable. I made more phone calls including leaving a message to a Retirement Financial attorney to get information on a class-action lawsuit. After researching online, I found out that other retirees are having the same experience with Voya Pension 2. Can someone help us?

When they finally completed one of the account rollovers, they said they still had received 0 of the three required documents for the other account, even though 3 separate entities had sent the documents for both accounts at the same time. Not only did I lose a huge chunk because they automatically made it into a check and sent it out before that day had passed, but I had to pay a fee for being under 65 to them for electing to have money withdrawn instead of rolled over, on top of that I had to pay a transaction fee so I ended up receiving less than a third of all my savings.

I went through the lengthy process of creating an online account for her, only to realize how incredibly limited their system is. I was able to submit her payment (they accept checking ACH details only...) to keep her current, and learned that in order to set her up for auto pay, we have to submit a voided check and fill out lengthy forms to send via fax or mail. It's just frustrating and shocking that a financial institution has yet to invest in simple system and process improvements that will vastly improve their customer experience.

I logged in to the account and switched my statement preferences from online to mail. Seven months later.... still ZERO. No statements. No communication. No emails. Nothing. It's like they don't even exist. If I were to die, no one would even know I had this money sitting there, because there is no written record of it at all, anywhere. What kind of a financial firm that holds hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars in retirement accounts sends ZERO communication? What a joke. Most days I have spent at least 1 to 1.5 hours on the phone with the newest customer service rep - I am told something different daily. I've been given 3 different supervisor's direct numbers. They never call back when I call. I always leave messages, but no return calls. So I have to waste my time calling back in and explaining my account to someone new - no one is ever able to do anything, and no one is ever able to give me clear definitive answers on what is going on.

Currently I was told my account was approved on Thursday FINALLY and the funds were releasing that day. I called back Friday to reconfirm. It is now Monday and no indication of anything on my account that says this. I am on over an hour of a phone call and was just told that someone in processing made an error so they needed to re-push this through and I should be receiving my funds at some point soon. This is after I made it crystal clear that my closing date was on Friday of last week. So not only is Voya incompetent, but they cost me money.

I mean it when I say this is the very worst company I have ever dealt with in my life. All to take out a small piece of MY OWN MONEY. It is absurd. If you have the choice STEER CLEAR. If you did not and this is your company's unfortunate choice for a retirement program, be forewarned. My four siblings and I inherited money from my mother's VOYA IRA upon her death in October, 2020. Voya finally got around to setting up the individual inherited accounts on 02/03/2021; two or so months after my brother sent the paperwork in. Here it is, March 31, 2021, and I still don't have online or automated access to my account. It is usually a tedious 30 minutes to one hour on hold to get to the correct department and/or a Voya rep who has a clue about inherited IRAs. Because I had an employer sponsored retirement account through Voya 6 years ago, every time I enter my social security number on the automated line, or try to log on the website, I get sent to the employer-sponsored department, despite that account being closed for several years.

I've spent at least 40 hours on hold or talking with Voya to straighten this out, and it is still messed up. Voya created an IT repair ticket on 02/12/21 to resolve this glitch; 7 weeks later, no access. Multiple calls have resulted in NO progress. In addition, I've been trying to transfer the assets to Fidelity since early March because by then I knew that dealing with Voya was a nightmare. Fidelity sent a Transfer of Asset form on 3/12/21 to the address on record for Voya via Fed Ex overnight express. The package was signed for on 3/15/21 at 8:05 am. Voya has no record of receipt, so who knows how much of my personal information is floating around.

Fidelity called today and was given a different address, and will resend the TOA. A Fidelity TOA representative said today that Voya is merging with some company called Venerable. Voya financial used to be Ing, and before that, Aetna. Aetna was a fine company when my dad opened the IRA several decades ago. Voya destroyed it, as so often happens with acquisitions and mergers.

The worst - the WORST - customer service imaginable. Don't even think about investing with this bunch of amateurs. My company had our 401k with Voya. I was approaching retirement and asked a very important question, and was given a 100% wrong answer, which almost kept me from pulling out funds for my son's down payment on his house (an early inheritance gift). They reviewed the recording of the conversation, admitted she had given me a totally bogus answer, then pretty much shrugged their shoulders and said, "Whoops!"

A couple years later, I sold some stock. I neglected to include the entry on my tax return - my bad. Of course, the IRS catches it, sends me a letter stating that until notified otherwise via some documentation, they consider it ordinary income and tax the amount accordingly. I reviewed the tax document from Voya and found that they hadn't provided the cost basis amount on the sale, which would reduce my tax liability substantially. So I call Voya. They hem and haw, then tell me I have to call Pershing. Pershing says they don't talk to individuals - I have to go to my company's current 401k administrator (NOT Voya anymore; wonder why not? Bad service, maybe?). THEY tell me that Voya is the only place I can get that information.

By this time my deadline to pay is on me, so I pay the IRS the full amount, planning to go back for a partial refund when I get the cost basis information. NO ONE at Voya shows the slightest interest in helping me. I had to file a complaint with the SEC (!) in order for Voya to make any attempt at finding my cost basis. Now I'm in IRS hell, months and months later, still trying to get back the $2000 I overpaid, even to the point of having to go to freakin' tax court. Thanks, Voya, you bunch of clowns!!! Due to a merger, I was forced to transfer my 401k from Fidelity to Voya. I was not given the option of rolling it into a self-directed IRA, even though the new company had not paid me any of the funds in the 401K. At Fidelity, if you violated the frequent trading rules, you would be notified on their app and you could call them to have it explained before you received any restrictions/penalties.

I figured the rules were everywhere the same, so I managed my Voya account just like I did the Fidelity account. Their app never gave me any notification that I had violated any policy. Then one day I received a FedEx letter stating that "as we have previously advised you, we have implemented the following restrictions ...." -- namely, that I could no longer manage my account via the app, the website, phone or fax, but would have to send in requests for investment or contribution changes via mail. YET, I HAD NEVER BEEN PREVIOUSLY ADVISED! Then the NEXT DAY a post (snail mail) letter arrived, warning me that I had violated their frequent trading policy, which it turns out is much more restrictive than those of Fidelity.

I called, and the rep confirmed that I would have to send all changes in by certified mail for 6 months. She claimed the app was giving me notifications, which it never did. She claimed I was sent info about the trading policies as part of a 50+ page packet sent to members, and I could not even find that info in there. She claimed that info was on their website, and again, I could not find it.

She did say I could send the certified letter OVERNIGHT. So when the market dropped in early March, I did just that. I spent $30 to send the certified letter with appropriate forms. They refused to execute the trades, and said it has to be sent in regular (snail) mail, contrary to what the rep had said. To protect their terrible customer service, they have a clause in their protocols that says that it is not their responsibility to ensure that a waring letter arrives before they impose their restrictions! So they send the waring letter via regular mail, then send the restrictions/punishment notification via FedEx.

Their representatives were routinely cold and uncaring about my situation -- no exceptions, even though I was simply managing my account just as I had my Fidelity account which I was forced to hand over to their custody, even though they failed to provide any prior warning, even though their own rep had told me I could then send my transaction request overnight. This is an uncaring, unethical, tyrannical company. Run from them! I have been a professional for 25 years and had various 401ks, and have never been treated with such disdain, apathy and mean-spiritedness, not to mention inhuman policies.

I worked for over decade under their retirement plan, and when I left my employer, I utilized my retirement to purchase a house and property. Voya did not allow me to pay for the entire property purchase amount, but sure had no problem allowing a withdrawal + penalties to cover the difference. My purchase amount was about 1/3rd of my total retirement. I paid the extra $50 for expedited mailing on my checks; they charged that no problem, but then forgot to actually expedite the checks and sent them standard mail.

I called about this (as my realtor wanted paid...no way!), and whoever answered had no clue. I asked to speak to a manager, no better there, I told him to expedite a 2nd set of checks, and he said he would have to charge my again, despite the others not actually being expedited and he said that wasn't his fault. I told him exactly what I thought of him, and he hung up. At least I made it worth it since it was clear he wanted to do that all along.

After that, I attended college and decided to NOT meet my payments on the 401k (a 401k loan defaults and does not count against your credit score, but counts as income) as I was now in college and not working, so the default wouldn't hurt me taxation wise. For 4 years, I would miss 6-9 payments at a time. They never defaulted. The problem? After school, I managed to land a good job, and was bumped up a tax bracket as a result (compared to my State job). I sent a check to them to pay my monthly payment, they returned the check, and defaulted the loan for missed payment. Nice!

Additionally, after paying for property, a house, and college, I had used up the majority of my retirement. I rolled-over the remaining amount into TD Ameritrade. I highly recommend any State of Michigan employee self-manage your accounts. The money I had left in my bank account from the distributions I put into a Schwab brokerage. So this plus leaving my employer must have irritated them, but that's life--deal with it. They also will ONLY send a PAPER check to rollover and won't do an institution to institution. No reason for that. Avoid these dinosaurs. Anyway, it took me 10 years to have xzy$ with Voya, it took me 2 years to have 3 * xyz$ self-managing between TD and Schwab. Have faith in yourself and skip a game here and there to self educate. As of this writing, my accounts are terminated and rolled-over.

I called and had a stop payment and they were to reissue a check to the correct payee. They sent a second paper check addressed to the same wrong payee, again it was sent USPS; this took a couple more weeks. The third time the representative was nice, looked it up and acknowledged their error stating the notes stated the correct payee. She stated the check would be expedited 24-48 hours.

December 20, 2020, I called Voya after 7 days and was told the check would be reissued “today” (resent with USPS) because “it took time to research to issue.” The last two customer service representatives could look and see the error within minutes while I was on hold - what more is there to research?! My money has been out of the market for over 60 days now due to Voya’s incompetence. Monies should be wired to the correct account within 24 hours. Or at least offer overnight shipping- if they make an error have a sense of urgency to make it right for the customer.

Voya clearly has incompetent staff who are either intentionally negligent so Voya can delay honoring payments, or are poorly trained and poorly managed for accuracy. I didn’t withdraw my money because of Voya, but now that I see the other reviews and have experienced similar negligence - I am glad I will not have funds associated with Voya - assuming I ever get my check in the mail.

First my paperwork (sent with my siblings’ paperwork) was lost, my siblings accounts were set up with no problems. My paperwork was resent and my account was immediately placed under review. I’ve been given two dates that the check was supposedly mailed only to then be told it hadn’t been mailed. Two months later I cannot get anyone to give me any answers. My next step is an attorney. At the end of September 2020, I attempted to change my direct deposit banking information for my annuity that Voya manages. The online request did not work and so I followed up via telephone to Voya's customer service help line. It is now December of 2020 and after numerous telephone calls, multiple hours of speaking to different customer service representatives, being placed on hold and pleading my case to make this simple change, it has yet to be done. This is by far the worst customer service experience that I have ever had. I need my monthly annuity check to go into the proper bank account so that I can cover my bills that are being deducted from that account. I am tired of the run-around and would like this situation to be resolved as soon as possible. I did not choose Voya to manage my annuity and given the choice I would never do business with them. Steer clear of this financial institution!

They say there is a glitch in their system but I will receive the forms within 2 days. I’ve called many times but NOT gotten ONE SINGLE REPLY/UPDATE. Tried emailing instead.. They replied 2 days later only saying they are “researching” and will contact within two days. That was last week, no word since. Tomorrow I will file a complaint with the BBB... I believe VOYA will delay until the early COVID withdrawal ends (in 6 weeks). Ultimately denying me legal access to my own funds.

I have a plan with VOYA - recently I tried to do a withdrawal under the guise of their reasonings. I faxed all the proper paperwork into them 12 times. Why 12? Because each time I'd call they'd say something was missing. Faxing is antiquated, however this is their rule. After 12 attempts they finally said they had it. One of the documents is a certificate from my employer that you print from My Retirement Manager, again that was faxed 12 times. I called back to get the status only to be told I need a trustee from my employer to do their part. I called my employer and they stated they had no idea what this means and asked if I printed the certificate from My Retirement Manager, I said yes, they stated that's all that's needed.

I called again to RE-VERIFY this and after speaking to countless managers they said the same thing. "Let us contact processing and we will call you back." Let me say this...there has NEVER been 1 call returned to me, I call them. I simply went through the motions after a week of calling to get MY MONEY and said ok. No one can explain what a trustee is to me or why a processor would request it. I even called my plan Admin. to get clarity, he has stated they have never heard of this and suggested I get a 3 way call going to VOYA with them on the line to verify things. This is reprehensible! It's also hurtful because my expectations are let down.

I'm now reading the complaints filed against them from various entities and it mirrors what I am stating. Each time I call it's like the Twilight Zone, they act like they don't know what is going on and will read bytes of whatever is noted. I am bothered by this knowing I cannot remove my money and leave them. I am disgusted, insulted, hurt, angry and want some action taken against them. Sorry is not good enough. They DO NOT DESERVE ANY STARS. ZERO STARS!

I was furloughed in April due to slowdown in gas and oil and Covid19. In June due to the continued slowdowns my position was eliminated. The job I was with had Prudential for my 401k and doing a withdrawal with them was the easiest thing I have ever done. I did everything online in 5 minutes and had the money in my account in 4 days.

Then we have Voya. I had an old 401k with them from a job I left in 2017. It wasn't much money and since I could take advantage of the Cares Act and take the withdrawal penalty free I figured I could take it and use the money to help with bills. I called July 31 because it would not let me sign in online no matter what I did. I was told I had to have paperwork sent to me that I not only had to fill out, but that had to be signed by the accountant at my old job. Why should someone else have to sign for me to take MY money? I filled out the paperwork and went and saw the accountant on Aug 3 and she faxed it in while I was there.

On Aug 11 the money hit my account. You'd think it would end there and it would just be a difficult withdrawal process but no, it continues. On Aug 19 I logged on to my bank account and saw my balance was much lower. I click on transactions and see that the amount Voya had deposited the week before has been taken back out. When I click for more details it just says reversal.

I call customer service and after waiting on hold for nearly 30 minutes I finally get a rep. She looks into my account and can only say that she sees the reversal but doesn't has an explanation to why. She told me she was going to make some calls and asked if they could call me back. I confirmed they could, but they never called back. I am a patient person so I decided to wait until the following week to see if they would redeposit the money. They didn't.

On Aug 26 I called customer service again. The rep again had no real answers to why it was reversed other than an "amount discrepancy." She informed me she was putting an urgent ticket in to resolve the issue and asked that I didn't wait for them to call back, but for me to call them the following day for an update. On Aug 27 I called back and the guy I spoke to said he could see the ticket and it showed the new transaction was confirmed which meant I should see the deposit in a few days. Here we are on 9/4 and I still don't have my money I officially requested on 8/3.

I called customer service again and the rep still has no idea what is happening. She asked to put me on hold while she made a call and after 3 minutes of being on hold I was hung up on. I know it wasn't me because when you "complete" a call with them they do a survey at the end. I heard a click and then the survey voice came on so she definitely disconnected me.

I am going to give it a short time now before I call back and demand a supervisor. There is no reason it should be this difficult to withdraw my money. Thankfully I still had the money in my account when they took it back. What would happen if someone spent it as soon as they got it because they needed to pay back-rent or something? That person would be left thousands of dollars in the hole because of a companies incompetence. The fact that customer service doesn't even have answers is even more mind-blowing.

I requested a hardship withdrawal on 7/14/20. I requested this been done via ACH and deposited into an account that they have had on file for months. The transaction was completed on 7/16/20 and "supposedly" ACH sent. I say supposedly because the money was never received in my account. I called them twice a day every day over the past 10 days. Each day they assured me that money would be in the account the next business day. I talked to several representatives, each one assured me that the money had not only left their offices but had been sent via ACH to my bank account on record. I verified the bank account information with them, which was correct.

Friday rolls around, the absolute drop dead date for any type of deposit to have gone through via ACH, and again no money. I called them and stated clearly that I knew they were lying and I knew that they had not sent that money via ACH and magically they come back with a different story. Now they tell me that the funds were sent out in the form of a check on 7/17/20. I requested ACH, but somehow they magically decided to send me a check... Again, they informed me that the check should be there no later than that day (Friday 7/24/20). Again, no check was received. I should be clear, the stocks in my account were sold. Money was taken from my stock account, so that money is somewhere, but unfortunately is not with me. this was a hardship withdrawal on a time sensitive matter and they have failed to deliver my own money to me in a timely manner.

On May 22nd, I requested a withdrawal from my 401k. It was agreed that 20% would be taken out. The rep I spoke with read a statement that I had to agree with and confirmed multiple times 20% would be taken and stated I would receive my funds via direct deposit within 5-8 business days. On Monday the following week, I checked my 401k account and did not see any type of hold or pending transaction, so I called to double check that my request was being processed, which at that point the second rep I spoke with said no, because there was a question in regards to the amount of taxes I wanted withheld. I said, "How can that be? It's 20% and I was very clear about that." The rep went on to say that the way the first rep wrote up my withdrawal request was unclear.

I asked the second rep why was I not notified by Voya that there was an issue and all she did was say sorry and continued to say it would take an another 5-8 days to process. I said that was unacceptable and then the rep backtracked and said my funds would be in my account on that Friday (which would be today July 3, 2020). So, I called Thursday to verify that my request was processed and the 3rd rep said no. It would be an additional 5-8 days. I said you do realize that if it takes an additional 5-8 days to process my request...that would be 3 weeks from the time I initially called? So I asked for a supervisor. The supervisor stated that the delay was their doing and would request to expedite my request with their processing department and would ask that a check be cut and sent via UPS. She stated she would call me the same day, when she received information on when the check was cut (that was at 8:30 am Thursday, July 2).

I did not receive a call back, so I called again that evening at 3:48 pm, and spoke with another supervisor...I wanted to know if a check was being cut and when it would be sent out, because I would have to be at the house to accept it from UPS or if it would be deposited via direct deposit...at that point my call was dropped. I know this is a long winded story, but I honestly feel they won't give me my own money. They are giving me the run around and I know processing does not take this long. I am also worried that what I had in my 401k on the 22nd may change by the time they actually process my request, if they ever decide to do so. I almost think this should be reported to the SEC or FTC. I am with Voya, because my employer switched to these people.

Then Voya bought the policy from them and everything got even worse. I guess the good thing is I'm afraid to die because I don't believe they would even pay off on the policy. I figure I've paid almost 25,000 dollars in premiums in the time I've had the policy and I've had no confidence that they would pay off if I died.
