I want to express my disappointment with the level of customer service I recently received from E*Trade. As a customer of a brokerage services provider, I expect professionalism, timely responses, and clear communication — unfortunately, my experience fell short in several areas. Despite multiple attempts to resolve my issue, I encountered long waiting times, inconsistent in-formation, and a general lack of follow-up. These delays and communication gaps have caused unnecessary stress and have shaken my confidence in your company’s commitment to customer satisfaction.

They are terrible and unfair! The rich get richer! Unbelievable. I'm cleaning this account Monday and going to Fidelity where I have level 2 and can make bear call spreads! I'm so mad!!!!

I have a banking problem with my E*TRADE account. I closed a CD with PNC Bank and arranged for PNC to deposit the funds electronically into my E*TRADE account using an E*TRADE deposit ticket. 3 days later I log into my E*TRADE account and not only were the CD funds not deposited, but the same amount of money was withdrawn from my E*TRADE account. E*TRADE allowed money to be withdrawn from my account using a deposit ticket (I have the screen shot). Furious, I called E*TRADE to speak to a manager to inquire how this could happen and he claimed the deposit tickets were old, and that using deposit tickets for withdrawals was the fault of the people at PNC bank and it was not Etrade's fault.

I talked to several other bankers afterwards, and they all agreed they never heard of people making withdrawals with deposit tickets. I assume this is because no one looks at checks or deposit slips, and that all that matters is what is typed into the computers. It's been almost a week of this and I'm still waiting for the withdrawn money to be redeposited into my E*TRADE account. How can you trust a bank with your money if withdrawals (without your signature) can take place with a deposit ticket?

E*trade is a very bad place to invest your money. I was their for more than 10 years. You will never make money at Etrade. The hidden charges will eat up all your profit. If they suspect you want to move your money, they will make the process very difficult for you, just to frustrate you to change your mind. The customer care service are very unprofessional, and dishonest. They lie all the time, you can never get a manager on the phone when you have a question or concern. Do not waste your time and effort investing at Etrade. If you have money at Etrade close your account and move your money elsewhere, They are a very dishonest brokerage firm, out only for themselves, to make money over your head only.

This is the worst broker on the planet!. I opened an account, I was able link my bank account, I was able to transfer $20,000 to my account. They had enough information to do that. But the next day I could not log into my account, they ask for my phone number, then say they could not verify my account. I call, I have to wait an hour on the phone, only to have them say I need to upload my drivers license and letter asking for login help. But they still will not open my account automatically, they said I had to call back in 2 days! Every call is an hour wait for them to answer!

When I call back, they say the department that verifies ID has not reviewed it yet, to wait another 3 days! They had enough information to take my money but not allow me to log in??? After a week, they still did not have anything from the other department! I have had enough! I told them to transfer my money back to my bank account, I will go somewhere else! Now it will take 3 days to get my money back! It didn't take them 3 days to take my money! Never use this company for anything!

I urgently needed access to my account, and though I reset the VIP secure token over the phone last week, now—without any clear reason—I’m being forced to send a pile of documents to verify my identity, which takes 2-5 DAYS! This is beyond unacceptable. There are plenty of ways to verify identity over the phone in real time, yet your poorly designed system prioritizes unnecessary delays. HORRIBLE process, HORRIBLE service, and a HORRIBLY run company. Rest assured, my account will be gone in 2-5 days—just like your ridiculous identity verification process.

It was a truly sickening experience as other brokers I've worked with in the past are energetic when it comes to fraud on their platform. The lackluster behavior they exhibited bewildered me and I had to seek external intervention from cyber forensics to solve what they should have helped me with. Use at your own peril. I'm a trustee and E*TRADE is refusing to release trust money they hold. I've spent 6 months filling out endless forms, talking to representatives and being threatened with their lawyers, who are unclear about NY trust law. I've dealt with several brokerages and ETrade is the worst by far - they have even out-bullied T. Rowe Price, and I never thought I'd see that. Other large brokerages that are more reasonable and even pleasant to deal with are Fidelity, and Vanguard (though incompetent at times) and smaller outfits like Dodge and Cox and RBC Wealth. If I were looking for a brokerage, I'd avoid ETrade.

Services and customer support has plummeted since Morgan Stanley took over. The online forms do not work, and when you call customer support, there's no interest to fix it. Instead, they encourage you to use paper. Submitted IRA distribution request, and the only way to get status update is by calling in, to these customer reps who seem well aware of the shortcomings. The processing is snail pace, and you wouldn't know that they need more documents until you call them. Then they ask that you call back to confirm receipt and to request that they continue to process the initial request. Takes weeks to complete what took 2-3 days on Schwab. Needless to say I'm moving my funds elsewhere.

I have been a loyal E*Trade Bank customer since back in the early 1990s when it was TeleBank. We have a few rental properties, so the checking account category and subcategory features, which you assign to payees, were very convenient since they would automatically show up in the check register after payment. However, several years ago this feature was broken so I would have to manually enter categories and subcategories in the register for each transaction. Multiple calls to E*Trade support have yet to have any effect on the issue.

Recently, after the takeover by Morgan Stanley, another feature, the ability to create transaction reports, was removed. This, of course, makes the category feature essentially worthless. In addition, the register search feature fails on date ranges that include the previous year in that both the Chrome and Safari browsers encounter link (http 404) errors. The sad part of this is that if the checking account features were working as originally intended E*Trade would be ahead of the rest of the banks.

I talked to someone today who sounded like he was sitting in his kitchen with his wife making so much noise that I could barely hear the guy. I have tried to close 3 beneficiary accounts for over 8 months now, because they have fractional shares not worth $100 and it takes a manager to sell those factional shares. I have used Etrade for about 25 years. For most of that time it was best-in-class. I started with an individual investment account, added stock option management, an IRA, Roth IRA & savings. Then I opened investment accounts for the 501c3 charity where I was CFO. At my own company I decided to direct 401k accounts to Etrade. So I had been very happy for a long time. Shortly after Morgan Stanley took over, Morgan Stanley migrated my accounts from Etrade to Morgan Stanley. The account numbers and the MAILING ADDRESSES CHANGED! For 13 months and counting I have been trying to get Morgan Stanley/Etrade to correct the address issue. I have half a dozen written confirmations that the problem has been solved and yet 401k statements continue to be mailed to someone else.

I've asked for escalations multiple times and have been told there is none. It took 2 years to roll a former employee's 401k into an IRA. The old 401k is still open with a balance. Statements, of course, continue to get delivered to the wrong address. My dedicated "Platinum Support" representative understands the issues but can't find anyone inside Morgan Stanley who can help. Next week I am retiring and closing my business. The corporate address needs to change. I have zero hope that I can get Etrade/Morgan Stanley to close remaining 401k accounts or send statements to the proper account holders. Basic trading functions still work which is why I've given 2-stars instead of 1.

I enter my phone number and the system says the phone number is incorrect. Well, it is my phone number, E*Trade’s system needs to be fixed. I had to call them over 10 times and that was after I reduced my dealing with the bank to minimal necessary to pull my money out of there.

Will never deal with that bank again. You’re also at the mercy of another person on the other side of the phone. I strongly advise dealing with banks where you can actually come to an office and deal with a real person if there is a problem. I never had any issues with Chase Bank or Schwab bank. Etrade needs to fix their internal system, how they clear people and how they keep the account safe without harassing normal investors and law abiding citizens like me. I recently experienced a nightmare scenario where I attempted to exit my position at market, only to have my order remain in a "pending" state for a staggering 28 minutes. During that time, I watched helplessly as my daily P/L turned from green to deep red. I called E-Trade's futures department in an attempt to resolve the issue, but my call went unanswered for hours. This isn't an isolated incident; it's the second time I’ve faced this problem.

On numerous occasions, their platform has frozen, leaving me stranded and vulnerable to market volatility. These were not limit orders; they were market orders, yet the delays were unacceptable. This latest episode was particularly egregious in its duration and impact. It was not a CrowdStrike issue; it’s a recurring problem specific to E-Trade's platform. They "fixed it". I went into my account the next day and it's locked, I can't do anything with my stocks! Can't call because it's a Holiday, but that still means I can't do any trading. I have been an E*Trade customer for over 25 years. Over that time I've seen some good and bad changes, but since being bought by Morgan Stanley it has sunk to new lows. Customer Service is pretty bare bones now and they no longer have the well-trained staff nor is staff available for those on the West Coast past 4pm (even though their website says otherwise). They make mistakes, a lot. Best to watch your accounts closely -- you can no longer expect timely notifications about actions you need to take on specific stock. I've written the SEC on 2 issues. I did get resolution, but these kinds of things were never issues before the Morgan Stanley takeover. Basically, communication sucks as MS tries to make a profit out of a service by eroding the service.

I have made numerous calls and submitted all the documents they asked for. One account was never opened and I was told they cancelled it after 30 days. I had to start over. Each time I am told there is more time needed for this or that department to approve a part. They are either poorly organized, understaffed, the staff is lazy, or they are deliberately holding the money. It makes me want to take the money out and invest elsewhere. Either way, this is poor customer service and causes additional stress and frustration when there are so many things to do upon a death already. There should be accountability when an account owner dies. The accounts are locked and nobody has access to know what ETrade is doing with the account.

In a shocking display of disdain, the representative Ryan ** callously informed me that my account had been terminated, citing that Morgan Stanley no longer wished to do business with me. This revelation was made all the more egregious by the fact that my funds remain invested with them, yet I am now denied access to my own account and money.

The representative's tone was dismissive and humiliating, culminating in the absurd request that I write a note pleading for a passcode to regain access to my own assets. This demeaning treatment was the final insult in a conversation that left me feeling disrespected, frustrated, and concerned about the ethics of this financial institution. As a customer, I expect a certain level of respect, professionalism, and accountability from the companies I entrust with my investments. E*TRADE Morgan Stanley has failed miserably in this regard, prioritizing their own interests over the well-being of their clients. I urge others to be cautious when considering E*TRADE Morgan Stanley for their financial needs. The risk of being treated with such disdain and disrespect is simply not worth it.

Well, they finally called me and told me we’d have to call Citi Bank for them to verify the bank transactions in order to reinstate my account. Keep in mind the reason it was suspended was because a $13,000 deposit didn’t go through, I have since made an $18,500 deposit which did clear and has been withdrawn from the bank. You’d think that’d be all the proof they need right? Nope. The rep makes me call Citi bank 10 different times all of which we fail to get connected to a rep. The E*trade rep tells me we’re going to call again to which I tell him, no, I’m not going to sit here and keep calling Citi and getting nowhere.

You already have proof that I had the funds in my bank, so talk to a higher up and take care of this. He said there’s nothing he can do and that we have to call Citi bank. I told him please withdraw my $18,500 then because I’m not doing that. He said no withdraws can be made until we call Citi. E*trade is literally in the process of stealing $18,500 from me.

I also tried to set up a brokerage account for the trust. That didn't go as well. Despite assurances that it would be open within a week, seven weeks later it was still not functioning. Customer service is terrible. Some reps are helpful, some are making it up as they go along. When more information was needed, they didn't contact me, they just waited for me to call in and find out why they hadn't done what they said they would. (This happened three times.) In one instance, I had sent them what they needed, but whoever received it didn't know what it was and failed to attach it to my account--despite account-specific, secure messaging.

Finally, after the account was open and I made a deposit, they froze my account until I verified (again) who I am and where the money was EFTed from. It's shown on the transaction list! And I could only unfreeze the account using my phone, not my computer. I told them I don't do finance on my phone. The rep told me that's their policy and they can't change it. I asked to speak with a manager. He told me company policy says no customer gets to speak with a manager. I set up a trust brokerage account with another reputable company. It took them 48 hours. At E*TRADE's request in written correspondence I received in April 2023. I voluntarily closed positions in my account and withdrew funds because they indicated they had elected to close my account (I believe they did this in retaliation for my moving my retirement account to Ameritrade). I assumed my account was closed. When I did not receive my 1099 consolidated form by Feb 15, I went to E*Trade website and attempted to login. I could not, the system indicated I was not recognized. I called E*Trade on 2/23/24 and found the account was still open and limited to withdrawal only. There was still a fractional share in the account. I indicated I could not access the account and requested that my tax forms be mailed to me. The attendant indicated she put in a request and it may take 10 business day.

On March 4 I called to check on status, there was no indication forms had been mailed. The attendant indicated she would put in a second request for tax documents. On March 8, I called for a 3rd time and there was still no indication forms had been mailed. I was forwarded to a supervisor, Tony, he indicated they will put in an “expedited” request and he would get back with me the next business day. He didn’t. While an expedited request has allegedly been placed to send me my tax documents I have little faith I will receive these documents. I have now had to delay a scheduled meeting with my tax advisor. I have filed a complaint with FINRA and the BBB because I am at a loss why I am having to fight with the brokerage to receive documents which they are legally obligated to provide me.

In addition, E*Trade has never paid my funds due for the fractional share sold against my account. While we are talking $1.62, it is still their fiduciary responsibility to send me funds owed regardless of the amount. The trading platform is fine, I prefer Ameritrade, but since Morgan Stanley took over, E*Trade’s customer service really gone downhill. I recommend using another brokerage.

I've had a brokerage account with ETrade for almost 10 years. 2 years ago I clicked on a suspicious link and was concerned that I could jeopardize my account so I had ETrade close it and open a new one. In doing so they inadvertently omitted my middle name. After this I was restricted from purchasing stocks or moving money out of my account. They told me that I needed to show proof of a name change, but since my name had never changed, I could not produce documentation to show a "change" in name.

Recently I sent proof of my full name to a representative who was able to update the account to reflect this however, when I tried to transfer my account to another institution (my husband and I are consolidating our assets and we are trying to secure a mortgage, having certain amount in assets will lower the interest rate), ETrade would not allow my account to be transferred stating there was a security restriction placed on it. I received notice of this on September 8th, so I called them explained that time was of the essence (due to the pending mortgage), and was assured the account restriction was removed and that the transfer should go through.

Following that the bank made several attempts to pull the stocks over but to no avail they kept getting the same notice that there was a restriction on the account. I have since followed up with 17 additional phone calls to ETrade on numerous occasions, wasting nearly 7 hours of my time on the phone getting the run-around, stating either they are unsure why the transfer team is restricting the transfer or that they are escalating the issue and it will be resolved over-night or 24 hours, or that it will take 1 to 2 days but after each call I wait out the time frame only to find that the transfer is not being processed.

The last call I had where I spoke was someone was yesterday with a manager who could not help escalate the transfer so I asked that he forward my call to his manager, who then proceeded to hang up on me before even speaking to me, I was given his extension so I called again, he hung up a 2nd time then the third time he let it go to voicemail, I left a message and am still waiting for a call back. Today I called 4 times, he hung up without answering the first 3 times then let it ring to voice mail on the 4th time. Stay away from ETRADE, their unethical practice of holding funds hostage seems to be a common practice for them. Since Morgan Stanley took over E*trade, I have had issue after issue. The glitches, where I keep being taken to the wrong section, when I try to access personal investing vs. retirement are bad enough but now I'm locked out of my account completely after about 6 years of no prior problems. I can't get into my account, so I was on the phone trying to set up security (which is really "information gathering") and the associate was very nice. I sent my official ID through cyberspace (not something I like to do) and she supposedly set up access to my account. I'm able to access it twice and now I'm locked out again. They have very "limited two form authorization" (no email, no landline call (which my bank allows), only password and personal cell phone). The syntax they sent me failed to work and it seems my security questions did not set up.

I'm being told I need to spend another hour on the phone sending my ID through cyberspace, etc...because they don't have their system roll out ready for prime time. They have no options for people who share a cell phone like I do with my husband. Cell phones (EMF waves) give me a headache. So, here I am leaving a review on how I have been locked out of my account again. Will I ever be able to continue access to my account without unexpected, random lockouts?

I feel it might be best if my husband and I take our savings and retirement and move it to some place where we can actually have 24 hr., unhindered access to our personal accounts...Pretty important! I feel upset at this point because one thing a bank should never do is keep a person from being able to access their account or account status. Locking us out of our money is not OK for any reason...especially when we are a long-time customer with a lot of history and never any problems.

I have traded futures, options and equities with eTrade. 2 weeks ago, I put in a trade on the app and the price hit the limit price and the open order was removed from my orders, meaning the order was executed and I should have had the position in my portfolio. However, the position was not there. No open order, no position, but the market was moving and the losses on the account was appearing on top of the screen. This lasted for a few minutes before the position appeared in my account and I closed the position. The same day it happened to me on eTrade's regular website and I called eTrade customer service. They connected me to the futures desk and I explained the situation. The agent told me that this probably happened because of a temporary issue and shouldn't happen frequently. I tried to explain again that it makes one hesitant about trading when there are system glitches. He said it shouldn't happen again and this part ended.

Last week on Thursday evening, I placed a few orders and closed them because I don't like to sleep with the stress of an open position. Before going to bed at night, I checked all the open orders and current positions on the eTrade app, as I do every day. Open orders in my futures account were blank and so was the positions tab. I went to bed. Next morning I woke up and when I looked at my phone, there was an open position in my account which was losing value. I closed the position immediately and called eTrade. I was connected to futures desk again and explained the situation.

I told them I had an issue with the app the week before as well. He asked me why I was trading on this app if I don't like it. I asked for a refund for the lost amount on this trade, the amount I lost because of the system glitch. Later, I was told they didn't find a system issue and they would not refund my loss from this particular trade. I always own up to my bad trades, however for this one I feel like eTrade stole from me. I hope other people who have had similar issues come out and we can bring this to the attention of public.

Since I had a lot invested with them, they used to even answer my phone calls immediately with their "elite service" they offered.

Now that they've been acquired, I've had them give me blatantly false information when I've called multiple times. They refused to cancel a security transfer even after being given a valid request, which they are not supposed to be allowed to do. Now, I'm on hold with "elite services" which said it has an estimated wait time of 30 minutes, and I think will be much more by the time I get through. They are sketchy as hell now, snotty when you make a request, and unresponsive and unavailable. I think it's finally time to jump ship. I have had to work with E-Trade for two death claims. One in 2018 and one in 2021. eTrade transfers out the bulk of the assets and then posts the dividend/interest payment to the decedent account. Multiple calls in 2018 and confirmation that the dividend/interest would be transferred over and it is still in the decedent account at eTrade and I'm now receiving escheat notices from eTrade. I had given up when it seemed the funds would never be disbursed to me after multiple assurances it would transferred and the account closed out.

Fast forward to 2021. Again the bulk of the funds were transferred and then funds posted to the decedent account. I called last week and talked with a representative in the decedent area and they assured me the funds would be transferred to my eTrade account that was set up specifically for this process. (No explanation why the dividends did not automatically transfer over). Representative assured me the funds would be transferred and it would take 2 - 3 days. One week later I'm on hold because the funds were not transferred. This is a familiar feeling. Is this just eTrade's way of making more money or something? I don't get it.

Since this seems to be such a difficult task maybe you should look at your process/systems and post the dividends/interest BEFORE transferring the funds. Would never use eTrade personally based on my experience and eTrade's inability to complete requests. I guess I should be grateful the bulk of the money was transferred at least. :-(

I was originally with options house until they were bought by e*Trade in 2016. I make option trades that primarily consist of defined credit spreads. I have never had an issue until they got bought by Morgan Stanley. I have been doing the same consistent trades every week and recently received a day trading margin call for options. It happens and you get slapped on the wrist and life goes on. I am no even sure what created this as their system showed no record that I was ever below my buying power. Something is screwy with their system lately and things have not been calculating correctly. Sometimes when I buy to close trades, it would buy to open more options instead of closing them. When you are playing with money like I do there is no room for platform or broker error. I have been trading complex options trades for over 20 years.

One day e*Trade started arbitrarily closing out my OTM credit spread positions at market price which cost me $900. The money is not my complaint. My overall complaint was they just started closing out trades and did not answer my call timely. I was on hold for over an hour. Then the first level rep could not answer my question. He put me on hold and just regurgitated something the risk management department told him which made no sense. I was told that the risk management team will close out trades that are within 2% of going ITM. This is absolute rubbish. These were defined loss trades that I have been doing for years.

I then used their online messaging system to try to get an answer to why they were closing out OTM defined risk credit spreads that I have always done. They told me that I was at risk for 2 million dollars if the trade went bad or I got assigned. I then asked if they understood what a defined risk credit spread was and that my loss, if the trade was ITM would have been out $4600. I had way more than enough to cover this. I got no answer other than a condescending note basically stating that these kind of trades get traders into trouble and to call their help line to discuss the issues. Yes, they wanted me to call back on the help line that put you on hold for over an hour and has people that cannot answer my questions. Hey, I know the risks and your highest level to make these kinds of trades. It's my money to lose. So, basically they fired the client.

I thank them for doing me a favor as I should have left when they bought optionshouse. E*Trade is not equipped for day traders and complex option traders. I sent another day trader to them who opened an account with a half million dollars just to test them out. He had some serious platform issues and was also put on hold after for over an hour. Regardless of account size this is totally unacceptable and they try to hide behind the COVID excuse. They called him back and gave him a direct line to someone because he has a larger account and pays over 30k a year in fees. After two days of trading on the platform he is moving his money out due to some of the same issues.

There are plenty of good brokers out there that understand complex option trading and want the business. I am not a person that needs handholding and have only had to call once in four years to E*TRADE. I have 3 other brokerage accounts that I never had a serious issue with, to where they lost me money and closed my trades on a whim. So goodbye e*Trade, I only stuck around because you gave me 35 cent option leg prices and I was used to the optionshouse platform that was a great brokerage until you bought them. You have consistently gone downhill over the 4 years I stuck it out. I’ve since moved money out of my trading account, my bank account, and am in the process of moving my IRA account. I also will tell the trading groups I am in to be wary of you as we are apparently not the demographic you are looking for or can handle professionally.

Recently I had an error with my IRAs with Etrade. I called their customer service number and was placed on hold for over two hours. Once I finally had the opportunity to talk with a CS representative, they said I needed to talk with another department. At this point they transferred me and I had another hold time of over 45 minutes. In the end, I finally had to hang up and call back. At this point I emailed the company and they sent me a link to fix the situation, but each time I attempted to filled it out I received an error message.

After 6 different attempts it finally went through. However, the cycle started over since Etrade sent me another message saying they needed more information and to connect via online chat. Once again, I waited over 40 minutes to connect to online chat and received more instructions. Ironically, after filling out the form exactly as they said, I received another notice that they need further information. This has been going on for months now and I've spent over 10 hours on hold without any results. Why don't they have a process like other companies that put you in line and call back so you don't have to wait online? Why can't their CS representatives that handle the online chat answer questions accurately? I would not recommend Etrade if you ever think you will ever need ANY customer service unless you have an entire day to waste.

I started with a CapitalOne Investment Account and was very happy with their platform and services. It all went downhill after the platform was purchased and serviced by ETrade. Out of convenience, I stayed with ETrade and even opened an account for my mother who recently passed. That is when the true nightmare started. With 5 beneficiaries on her account we thought the process to distribute the funds would have been relatively straightforward based upon her designations on the account. It hasn't been, after numerous phone calls, different instructions every step of the way, submittal of additional notarized documents from each, we have yet to get the funds distributed and appear to be back where we started in the process. Trust me, the second the funds are transferred the accounts will be closed and all of us will find someone who knows how to manage the process and our funds. Any confidence I had in ETrade is totally lost.

Is this a financial company or a joke? Are there no banking regulations for that? Trading using iPod is very difficult also. The multi-quotes for a few stocks at the time don't work anymore. We see no value for Dow or Nasdaq on single quotes etc. etc. I am with E*TRADE for 20 years, but it is time for our divorce now I think. I called E*trade December 2019 (when I decided to purchase stocks after 8 years of inactivity) to change my last name to my maiden name due to my divorce in 2013. They immediately placed a restriction on the account so I couldn't see any of my account details or buy/sell the stocks that I had recently purchased. The hold times are over an hour via phone and chat is over two hours during CST 8AM-5PM M-F. They can only be contacted through their message center online and it takes approximately 3 days to receive a response. Terrible! This is consumers' money that they are holding meanwhile the stocks are either soaring or diving. How can this not be an escalated issue that needs resolving immediately!

They stated that they must have a notarized document (ORIGINAL MAILED) from ex-spouse of (over 7 years) which he is a very busy man and doesn't see the need since there was a balance of $40.00 in the account at the time of the divorce - it was never an issue between us and we personally forgot about it. Ex-spouse has emailed the Resolutions Dept. to remove restriction and remove him as co-applicant and they refuse to unrestrict my account without the notarized document. This is MY money that I need to purchase Christmas gifts for my family. How can this be legal (to block access to a consumer's money) for a period of 12 months? This could cost someone EXPONENTIALLY!

They restricted the account because I wanted to change my name back to my maiden name seven years later. I have and did some research and this is what I believe truly happen and I'm sure your expert will agree with me. On June 17th 2020 we had a short $1. Call that. We sold to open and then we bought them. Close it on the 5th of October after originally opened it in August on the 17th. Now E-Trade financial is refusing to recognize that opening position on that trade and it's not until after I really studied and went through the transactions did I realize that there is no money that they're hiding.

They actually forced us to lose nearly $719,000 and the way that they did it is by eliminating that first trade as a sale to open it. Change the entire dynamics of that position because now when we wrote it to the short $15 strike price for October 16th it's no longer considered a wash sale so it causes chain reaction to change all the wash sales and replace them with replacement shares just so that they could be closed again with a realized full market value loss so it was like I hypothesized. There was no short position at the June 17th strike price of $1 on Tesla. We actually purchased a long position which they closed and kept all the proceeds and it causes chain reaction of every roll that we did to another strike to be replaced and sold for a complete and full loss. Nearly $717,000 was taken in this process. If you have any advice please post it. Nearly a million dollars missing out of my account.

I never worried about how someone was handling my funds, and they seemed to have enough tools, features, and trading options to where I feel they deserved my business. Additionally I found the former eTrade company responsive with respect to business suggestions -- such as making their website easier to use, and offering free or low cost certificates.

All of this trust has come to an abrupt end now that JP Morgan has bought them. Earlier this morning I opened up my eTrade account, and JP Morgan wants $500 for a certificate for a bound I only paid $10,000 for. As a result, a decision has been made to sell the bond, and look for another place to park my money. From a philosophical point of view, it's usually a bad idea to have a bank your broker, and I have always felt more comfortable having a broker because of the sense of independence, trust, and advocacy. Its like comparing an independent insurance agent to a direct writer. For this reason I can no longer recommend eTrade. Looking to put a few ($3500) into the market I was anxious to test my knowledge of our economy so I joined eTrade. Starting with some cheap penny stocks I made $2800, then moved to other pennies that didn't pan out. So, at a small loss I sold then bought back in the next day when it tanked, knowing that it would soon recover. I went to my account 2 days later, only to discover eTrade had ripped me off for several hundred dollars!!

When I called them they said what I did was called a "wash sale" but at NO time prior to my cluck to do the trade did any warning pop up. But when you're in Vegas and flash 3 of a kind and the dealer sees another "pair" in your hand THEY will correct you and honor your full house!!! Etrade screwed me out of several hundred dollars on that! Then I bought 977 shares of AVCO - a pharma in New Jersey. After riding it for several months it started to tank, so I cashed out and tried to buy into WKHS but Etrade's system was screwed up and wouldnt let me make the trade!!

I immediately bought back into AVCO and for some, unexplained reason Etrade screwed me AGAIN, lowering my share count from 977 to 907, and raising my buy price from 1.90 to $1.99!!!! Tried to call Etrade but no answer after more than 20 rings!!! SEVERAL TIMES. Emailed them. No answer. Finally, I sent a complaint to the SEC and a couple days later Etrade lowered the buy price to $1.88, but kept my share count at 907!!! Etrade is a crooked company. They steal money and shares from you and constantly refuse to answer their phone, no matter how many times you let it ring. Nor will they answer your emails.

THIS is what crooks di when they screw you - they hide from you, hoping you will forget, or go away. In my case, it was "go away"!!! Tonight I received notice from TD Ameritrade that they finally completed my account transfer from Etrade!!! YA-HOOO!!! I challenge you - go ahead, call T.D. and see how long it takes for them to answer the phone, then make your own decision: which is the best company? Bottom line is, Etrade gets off by hiding from its customers and steals money from you, with NO prior warning, or notice. Ameritrade answers their phones in a heartbeat and is VERY helpful and knowledgeable. I look forward to trading through TD Ameritrade and having the assurance that when my stock makes a move that demands my attention, they will promptly answer their phone and assist me in a professional manner. How companies like Etrade continue to be in business is amazing. Maybe this review will put an end to that?

Everybody has "compassion" and says they will look into to it, but here we are 5 weeks later and no control. Each contact brought the request for more documents and still no guarantee that "it will work." Nobody in the know would contact me until I demanded a supervisor today. Two calls later he thought 5 more documents "might" allow me full access including a third letter of instruction (this time notarized). I was always the listed as the successor trustee since 1991 - (After my parents). None of this seemed to matter.

By the way, we originally tried to put my name on their accounts over one year ago using all the notarized Etrade forms. I mailed them last year and they did nothing with them, except make a note on their account that forms had been submitted. I'm all for protecting people precious retirement accounts, but Etrade makes you wait weeks before it even knows or tells you what documents it will accept. They also fail to contact you when your forms/request don't work. That's after you must endure the 45 minute wait every time you try to contact them. I still don't even know if the five documents I am now working on will suffice. My suggestion is to Invest elsewhere. I moved my personal IRA out of there this month due to this poor customer service. Our combined accounts were close to 2 million $, so don't think having a significant amount at Etrade gets you better service.

Over 6 months after my father's death, I was asked to jump through a new hoop each month, never voluntarily given the forms that I must fill out. It was very frustrating. All they did was assure me it was not THEIR fault. They want to hold on to your money at all costs, no matter what your desire is. Other brokerage firms were amazed at their behavior. Do not put one penny in etrade. You will regret it.

This is by far the worst company I've ever chosen to handle my money. It's embarassing that in our country, these sorts of people are even allowed to operate a business that is responsible for something as important as a person's retirement, their children's education savings, etc. My most recent interaction with e*Trade's "Customer Service" department (I use the term "Customer Service" loosely) went something like this:

I'm currently at a military installation in the Middle East. Pandora is blocked here, so the VPN on my device is almost always running, as that is how I am able to enjoy music. Well, I logged into my e*Trade account while my VPN was running, and the geniuses at e*Trade determined that this was "unusual activity", locking basically every feature of my account, aside from viewing. I was told through secure messages that I would need to call (yes, CALL) customer service to rectify the issue. In the year 2020, I find it hard to believe that there is a company, who in their very name, identifies as an "E" commerce company, which requires a telephone call to resolve a simple tech issue...

I politely and professionally explained that I am overseas and placing a phone call to a U.S. number is not as simple as it may seem. Well, apparently secure messages, emails, and their chat service are all incapable of dealing with this, so after weeks of being locked out, I was forced to make multiple international phone calls, costing in excess of $100, just to be told I needed to send them a copy of a gov't-issued photo I.D., and a signed letter requesting my account be unlocked.

How is that not information which could've been relayed THROUGH EMAIL???? Are you kidding me? So...I get a reply from e*Trade in the secure messages, stating they've received my docs, and once it's been verified as in order, I should expect after ANOTHER 1-2 business days a message requesting me to CALL THEM AGAIN to complete verification.

These guys are a joke. The "service" is insulting, the tech & service reps have no clue what they're doing. One rep (Maylody) actually cut the chat as soon as I explained what my issue was. She didn't even reply. No response, no instructions, just left. That is when I lost my patience. I had been 100% polite up until that point. Needless to say, I will be closing my etrade account as soon as it is unlocked, whenever that may be. It's currently a buyer's market, people! BUY BUY BUY, just do it somewhere else!

I had two accounts with e*Trade set up for my children and was beginning to trade for their accounts and almost immediately, randomly, one account had funds on a common stock trade locked up for the settlement hold and one didn't. Then the reverse happened to the accounts. I was mystified as a former investment banker, I knew the rules of common stock holds and trading and when I waited the 40 minutes to get a call center rep who said the usual idiotic "I understand your concern" which she clearly did not, I asked for a professional to speak to about the policies at e-trade. I then waited another 30 minutes to speak to their trading department expert... Needless to say, this person was not an expert, just spewing some arcane policy within e-trade about needing to have a different account classification etc...

I tried to explain that this was a simple common stock sale, to then make another common stock buy and the funds were not available. Of course, I lost the trade profit because I couldn't make the purchase with the funds unavailable from the sale... So needless to say, the shocking wait times, unprofessional people at the other end of the line who are not in the industry, arbitrary holds on funds, while anyone can choose a company like Schwab/Fidelity etc...who have far faster customer service, clear availability of traded funds on common stock, why is this Company even in business? I won't even get into the headache of closing the account and transferring the funds, stocks in street name. Just don't open an account with this Company and ask yourself what Morgan Stanley was thinking when they bought this joke of a Company.

I've been using e*Trade for more than three years now. Generally, until recently, I've been satisfied with the service. Given my experience, one would think a long-time customer with zero problems would be entitled to some sort of courtesy or benefit of the doubt or just plain accommodation. Not with e*Trade. I've transferred funds in from both my business bank account and from a personal bank account without issue. Never were any of my transfers questioned nor were my accounts verified. So picture my surprise when recently I went to transfer funds in from an account I've already used without incident. The e*Trade system said the account had to be verified. Don't know why since e*Trade accepted fund transfers from this account previously, but okay.

So, I go to verify the account, and the only option offered is through cell phone text. The number I have on file (and have for more than three years) is my business landline office number, which does not accept texts. It asks for an alternative mode of verification, and the only option offered is cell phone text. No option for email verification, no option for voice call verification, no option for making small deposits to the account, all methods used by other brokerages I've used -- no option for anything that respects the preferences of a client.

Again, okay, I add my cell phone number, which I've had for three years. And it says the phone isn't in my name (it is) and so won't recognize it. I ask for an alternative mode of verification, and it goes back to my office number. This has happened multiple times and the system remains in this kind of endless loop. This is a totally moronic system and I've previously discontinued using companies that only rely on cell phone text verifications given how inconvenient they are.

I sent an email to e*Trade's so-called customer service since I consider my time as valuable as theirs and don't want to go through the hassle of calling. It took several days to get a response, and basically all the response did was reiterate what I already knew, though it did say my number would be approved in a few days. It's been almost two weeks now, and the number has not been approved. There was a suggestion to use their app to deposit a check, and I don't want to go through the hassle of doing that since I use my cell phone as little as possible, and as a phone, not a camera. They also suggested a wire transfer, which costs money. As for their explanation as to why they accepted a fund transfer from this same account previously with no verification, they said it was done as a "courtesy" (translate, greed, to get money in, but if it was a courtesy they'd approve the same account).

Needless to say, I've had it with trying to deal with this completely inflexible and inaccurate system. I understand e*Trade has been sold, and I hope the new owner will have more respect for their clients. Needless to say, this whole experience has been very frustrating to me.

At least the rep (I think his name was Dave) was polite and got the task done, but he sounded tired and a little bit resigned, like he had heard this a million times. Reviewed April 10, 2020

In early January, 2020 I contacted e*Trade by phone and told them that my husband and I wanted to change his individual account to a joint account. My husband had been using this account for several years. He had some serious medical conditions and wanted me to be added to the account because he was spending a lot of time in the hospital and becoming less able to manage things. The person I spoke with when I called said that she would email me a form to complete to change the account to joint and once I mailed it in the account would be changed to joint within a few days. I sent the form in a couple of days later.

We didn't hear anything from them so I called them about three-four weeks later and was told that etrade had received the signed forms but they would need a verbal confirmation from my husband over the phone. My husband was very ill and weak by this time, but he got on the phone and spoke with the etrade rep and told her he wanted to add me to the account. I then got back on the phone with her and asked her how long it would take to change the account to joint. She told me 3 to 5 days. My husband passed away a couple of weeks after this. I called etrade a week after he passed and told them of his passing and asked if the account was being changed to joint. My husband did not designate a beneficiary for his account. This was an oversight.

I was told that my account would now be transferred to the Benefits Dept. I was given a case number and told that the case manager assigned to me would call me in 3 to five business days. When the case manager hadn't called after a few days I called her. She said that this was the first time etrade ever had this situation in which a customer died while their account was in the process of being changed to a joint account, that she would have to talk with her supervisor and that this would take time and I would not hear from her for a while. She also told me to scan them a copy of my husband's death certificate, which I did.

When I hadn't heard from this case manager a week later I called and left her a couple of messages. She called me back and said she was going to work with her supervisor to avoid me having to get access to the account through probate, "Since we have records of the signed paperwork and the phone conversation with your husband stating that he was working to change the account to joint." About two weeks later I still had not heard from this case manager, so I called and left her a rather angry message that I needed to know what was going on with the account. She finally called me back and said that her supervisor had decided that they could not change the account and I would have to go through the estate process.

She said this was their policy and that it was "Because of your husband's age." My husband was 86 when he passed, but he was mentally alert and knew exactly what he wanted to do with his account when he spoke with them, and up until this point they had said nothing about his age being an issue. I was so frustrated at this point that I let her have it and told her what I thought of etrade. So, now, two and a half months after my husband's death I have been appointed executor of his estate and I am still going through this nightmare with etrade. I called about a week ago and spoke with someone in the benefits dept. who emailed me a list of what I have to send them to get the account changed to an Estate account with me as executor.

I have to send them an original death certificate (although they already have the one I scanned over a month ago). They need me to fill out the 11 pages of paperwork that is exactly like the paperwork we filled out to change the account to joint back in January. They want an original letter of administration from the court appointing me as personal representative (executor) for the estate. These letters cost $20 each, and everyone else I have dealt with in the probate process has been fine with a photocopy. They also want a copy of the letter from the IRS stating the EIN assigned for the estate.

My attorney emailed me the notice from the IRS giving me the number that had been assigned to the estate, but this notice states that I won't receive the actual assignment letter from the IRS for about four weeks. I called etrade yesterday and asked their rep if the IRS notice that the lawyer sent would work and forwarded it to him in an email. He said he didn't think so but he would check with his supervisor and I would get an answer in - you guessed it - three to five business days, and in etrade language that means more like three to five weeks, if you get answer at all. I emailed my lawyer about this and he said this IRS notice is the only thing he ever sends his clients for the EIN and it's never been a problem before.

He told me to talk with a supervisor next time because the guy I talked with at etrade didn't know what he was talking about. I have asked to talk with etrade supervisors before and the response is, "Well, my supervisor will have to call you back and it will take three to five business days," and the last time this happened the supervisor never called me back at all. So, bottom line, words cannot express the frustration I have felt trying to deal with this very incompetent and unethical company. Yes, my husband should have designated a beneficiary, but my son is a software engineer and designs websites for banks, hospitals, and other businesses all over the country.

He used to have an etrade account and when I told him that his dad had not listed a beneficiary he went to the etrade site and said that it was confusing and not well organized, and he realized that he had not designated a beneficiary for his own account. He has sold all his stocks in etrade and is now investing with another company because of the way etrade is treating me, and he and his wife have told all their friends to do the same, and their friends are getting out of etrade, too. My husband did not have life insurance and thought that there was plenty of money in the etrade account so that I could use it to live comfortably for a while when he passed while I was sorting things out and selling some properties we own.

Sadly, he didn't realize that I would have to spend months fighting with etrade. Worse, these are the problems I’ve had with etrade just trying to get access to the account, which my husband and I both contributed money to for investment. From reading other posts here and on other sites I hate to think of the difficulties etrade might cause me when I actually get control of the account - if I ever do - and sell the stocks. I used to think their doggie bow-wow-wow and don’t get mad, get etrade commercials were cute. Now I want to throw something at the TV every time one comes on - and if I didn’t have etrade I wouldn’t be mad!

So if they give you a $30,000 LOC, and you use it, and the value of your collateral drops due to market changes to the point that your max line if credit would be only $20,000, you now have to come up with the $10,000 difference, or they sell your stock at the depressed price to cover it.

My best advice... learn from my mistake and "DO NOT" deal with these people. Because it was after banking hours, I had no ability to deploy either of those options. I could not sell other shares to cover because the market was closed. I could not transfer funds to cover because the banks were closed. So they simply sold my shares in Tesla at an extreme loss. This practice is unfair and should be illegal. I made the request, again, to sell my AAPL shares as a preference. The value of AAPL shares were more than sufficient to cover the value as requested by e*Trade.

Then, a day before the 2Q results of TSLA where released, e*Trade sold, against my preference and request, my TSLA shares. I then took a loss of more than 10,000 dollars. Problematic thought, is the faulty misleading and arguably lied to character of e*Trade professional employees. I came to discover through evidence findings and otherwise, that staff of e*Trade profit from selling specific stocks that the most to lose. (They hold no honor or respect to investors).

After I attempted to communicate the concern and outrage with a supervisor, he in turn said to me, quote "there is no record on file that you made a request, or preference". And more "there was no preference of stocks". It means, that as an investor, my requests were never followed through, nor honored. I hold, and have, the date, time, and name to whom I spoke with, and what my request mentions. I made that statement clear to the Supervisor. In turn, he said, "there is nothing we can do," and "you should join a different brokerage group". I lost more than 10,000 dollars, and they take me for a fool. Beware of e*Trade's misconduct, and its negligence towards new investors. They will mislead, misinform, and seek to profit out of investors own profit or loss. Once they've made a profit, or once their mistake is presented, they'll simply request that you move on.

I tried to open/fund a savings account from an external savings account. The noob that processed the request put a "Checking" tag on the ACH (whatever that is). The request resulted in an NSF and eTrade put a hold on my brokerage account (which has nothing to do with the savings account). After talking to another rep, I sent eTrade the docs they requested: signed letter of intent with current bank statement. Talked a guy named Corey who set up the conference call and we were able to do a wire transfer...$25 out of my pocket. Corey assured me that I would be credited that amount but so far....NO! So the funds are sitting in the account but the clowns haven't lifted the restriction.

Just got off the phone with another dope from their customer service. After leaving me on hold and listening to the same stupid bossa nova tune over and over for about 10 minutes, he tells me the people that do that sort of thing have gone home, but that he sent an email...that they would TRY to get the restriction lifted. I will be transferring this account tomorrow.

I’ve had an E*TRADE account for only about 5 months now and it’s already been a terrible terrible experience. I opened my account and I’ve been trading options while I try to gain experience and learn what I’m doing. All of a sudden, one day I call in for a simple question about my account and they inform me that they decided to close out my account and deny me any further service. I asked probably 50 times if they could tell me why they made this decision but all the customer service people told me the same thing, this being that E*TRADE doesn’t tell them why and that they don’t even have contact with anyone who could resolve this or tell me why it’s happened.

This isn’t a huge problem for me as I don’t have very many assets in my account and I hear that Ameritrade is a whole lot better, but it is still incredibly frustrating that no one is able to tell me why E*TRADE decided to terminate my account. Even the customer support representative was frustrated with the fact that they don’t give him any ability to help their customers. This poor excuse for a company does not deserve your money and from hearing some of these other reviews, your money probably isn’t safe with them anyway.

I've had a E-Trade accounts for a really long time. Like, maybe 18 or so years? At first, I was in love with the no-ATM fees thing. And the website was easy to use at the outset. But then... ATM fees began getting charged. I had to call. They didn't refund me, and they refused to recognize that I had signed up for an account that shouldn't be charged for ATM fees. Then, miraculously, after the call, ATM fees were being refunded again.

Then... my bank card would suddenly be shut off with no notice randomly. I'd call, and they'd always say it was because it had been used at one of the city's transit stations -- which I use ALL the time. So, I had to repeatedly tell them, and I'm not kidding, that it was a legit charge and ask them to turn on my card. They literally told me that I shouldn't use my card at the transit machines anymore. They told me to go get cash at an ATM and put that into the transit station machine. I'd say it was because of the one customer service person who took that call, but this happened twice. And the card getting turned off for use at transit happened three times. I had to start buying monthly passes at my local grocery to get around it.

Then... any time I'd visit another city and buy something, they'd shut the card down. Somehow, when they did this, they actually DID manage to call me. (Why hadn't they called me when they shut my card down for transit station charges? Your guess is as good as mine.) I was appreciative they were watching out for me when this happened, b/c I was truly in another city. But getting the card turned back on was a giant pain in the **. It took about fifteen minutes, and I had to leave the store to finish the transaction. So, fine, I could deal with that.

But get this! They let some ** use my card numbers to pay their cell phone bill and pay for car remodeling in the Bronx! They never turned the card off. I lost $700 of my own cash in one day. And then they made me fill out PAPER forms and send them in to dispute the ** charges! They "kindly" granted me a portion of that money back -- after they got the paperwork -- and finally settled the dispute MONTHS later. Disgusting.

They also once lost a money transfer from one of my bank accounts to another. They said it was because there was no confirmation number on the transaction (what the... why is that my fault?). Fortunately, and I have no idea how, the money re-appeared in my bank account a week later. I've been threatening to leave them forever, but laziness and a joint savings with my husband on the same platform have kept me from it. The funniest part of all this is that I'm finally going to leave E-Trade b/c of the most recent bank card they sent me. Vanity! Hehehehe..

Get this. So, without any notice to me -- and I'm on the online banking site all the time -- they sent me a new bank card. Even though, my old bank card wasn't set to expire for years. So, I called, "What's up with this?" They said, "Oh, we're re-branding to Mastercard." Re-branding? Visa and Mastercard are two different credit companies altogether last I checked. (Am I wrong about that?) What is going on? So, the dude just turns on the card, even though I explained I don't want it. I have no choice in the matter. And it gets weirder. The card doesn't have numbers imprinted on it. The numbers are typed on the BACK of the card! It's so weird! And it is the uuuuhhgliest card I've ever seen. It looks like 80s Sesame Street colors. Blue, teal, purple, with a Mastercard logo.

Now I have to worry if where I go accepts Mastercard, too. Again, I have no choice in this matter. I asked several times. And then, the weirdest part of all. My husband hasn't gotten this new card. He has a checking account too, but he hasn't been forced into this fugly Mastercard E-Trade card. I am just... bewildered. Bewildered and moving my money finally.

I recently made a wire transfer to E-Trade... That's when it all started. One of the worst mistakes anyone can make. The majority of my assets and cash in my account have been damaged and lost in a matter of hours and days, not under my discretion or authorization. Also, whenever it was under my discretion, executions and orders that were sent, were sent entirely wrong. The platform is absolutely a horror story itself, it would crash repeatedly, not load, especially in the middle of an order. E-Trade has failed to take responsibility in whatsoever way, after numerous amounts of time trying to contact them through their customer service and speaking to many different people about all these issues right at the time it all was happening, and they were all mostly rude and awful.

I have been hung up on, put on hold for a total amount of hours upon hours, given false hope, tried to jeopardize me on the recorded phone lines, lied to, blamed for what occurred, and repeatedly interrogated whenever anyone spoke to me, and there was no sort of compensation in any sort of way at the end towards anything. Absolute disastrous business filled with scam and fraud, poor customer service, and hefty commissions that aren't worth a penny. I had to beg them to wire me back whatever money was left in the account back to my bank. I would call them in the middle of a transaction to stop it and to bust it, and tell them this is not authorized and was sent wrong and they would not, and would blame me.

I tried everything anyone can possibly do within the jurisdiction that is allowed to get this dealt with, but E-Trade just won't cooperate in any way. They would say I'm the only one having these issues and that it is my fault, but after doing the research and seeing for myself the problems many others have been having that are somewhat similar to mine as well within similar time frames, that statement is not true. Not fair, ethical, legal, or right in any sort of way what has occurred.

I have been wondering how to go about getting back my lost funds but my efforts has rather been abortive. I came in contact with www.Wealthwatchs,com team, they extracted my funds in fractions and made my recoup happen in a less than a week. DO NOT USE. Took my money. As someone just getting started investing, I wanted to try a few different apps. I downloaded e*Trade in hopes of putting a bit of extra cash into a few choice stocks. Learned a few things along the way:

-App is NOT user-friendly. It looks like it was designed in the 80s and hasn't been updated. Difficult to find account info, almost impossible to change any info.

-Must use the website to connect bank account for instant transfer. Of course you can deposit from any old card, but to withdraw the money (even if it's just sitting there, not invested), one must go through several extra steps that take several days to complete. Supposedly to verify your identity, but really it's to keep your money.

-Account gets automatically closed (and your money stolen) if you don't put in $500 within a certain amount of time. Apparently I didn't do it within their arbitrarily set deadline, and now my account is closed, my money nowhere to be found. Unless you're Moneybags McGee, and know a bunch about investing, and e*Trade in particular, stay away from this thing.

-Would give zero stars if possible. Any other investing app (that was made in this century) is easier to use. Look for literally anything else.

I have only had accounts with e*Trade banking for two months and have already had one or more accounts frozen three times without explanation or warning, just failed card transactions in checkout lanes. In NO case was there ANY problem with the account, monetary balance, or my actions. Suddenly the computers decide there is something they don't like about a transaction, even deposits, and the accounts get locked. Even on weekdays, it sounds like I'm talking to someone in India, and I can never get to a supervisor. It took a lot of work to get Social Security deposit and online bill payments set up, but I'm checking into other banking options now, as e*Trade is customer UNFRIENDLY, all in the seeking of no losses on their side. HORRIBLE BANK.

I have been an e*Trade customer for over 20 years. For the most part they have been great, but where a huge whole in their service has developed is in their debit card fraud protection. In December of 2017 I had a person in another state make an ATM withdraw for $500.00 (even though I still had my atm card) and then attempt to make a second withdraw. When I noticed the transaction I notified e*Trade who then cancelled my card and told me they would have to investigate the transaction which could take up to 90 days. They returned my money after about a week (almost any other bank will return your money to you the same day), after a month they approved the claim.

Now this has happened again, this time e*Trade alerted me of the suspicious behavior after 15 Target.com purchases were made out of state. I called them to confirm that these purchases were not mine. This time they are not as willing to return the money to me which has totaled over $700.00. I am told that it may take 90 days before they can approve the refund. The first problem is that even though you use their chip in the debit card for purchases, people can still steal your information and duplicate your card. The second larger problem is that they don't seem to care that you lost your money and are unwilling to refund you anything until after they can prove that you are not lying to them.

I will never use my debit card from e*Trade again and will be closing all my accounts. After I had the first issue in December of 2017 I had opened up a Chase account and explained them how e*Trade handles their fraud claims, they couldn't believe how non-customer friendly it was and assured me that I would have immediately gotten my money back. I have been using my Chase card the same as I was using my e*Trade debit card and have never had a problem.
