My experience with BBVA over the last few months has been a nightmare. I could never, ever recommend this bank to anyone! I made an honest mistake regarding a balance transfer and what should have been a simple resolution ended up taking almost SIX MONTHS to resolve. Cynthia, the “Client Experience Manager” in Grapevine TX, was assigned to my ticket after getting nowhere with BBVA's customer service hotline. Most of the time I would receive no follow ups or updates, but when I did receive a response, I was either lied to or given a generic response with no useful information. Several times I was told that there would be a resolution “by tomorrow” or “by next week” but then I would receive no further follow up.
To make matters worse, while I was dealing with this frustrating issue, I was contacted by 3 different people at BBVA who tried to sign me up for a new loan or credit card. Meanwhile, I couldn’t even get anyone to give me the refund that I was owed! This made it clear where BBVA’s priorities are… No concern for resolving a customer’s issues, but they are more than happy to take EVEN MORE money from you!! The fact that a bank is able to operate with such a fractured structure & poor communication while putting no effort towards providing quality service for their customers is astounding. Now that my issue has FINALLY been sorted, I have closed all accounts with BBVA and taken my business to another bank.

I have had two issues with BBVA. Firstly they changed my mailing zip code on multiple occasions. All of a sudden, none of my online purchases go through. Getting this fixed is like pulling teeth. God forbid if you have to move and change your address, prepare for a 3 week fight. Now this is the kicker, my debt card expires in two days, and my new card won't arrive for two weeks. I called them earlier this month to get the ball rolling on a new card and they refused to help me. Now I will be without a card for two weeks. Did I mention that my child will be born in a few days. I guess BBVA doesn't care.

Apparently they’ve been rated “Covid friendly” for their response and customer service in relation to the pandemic. I have been a client since I was a child and I am currently in my 30’s. I recently over-drafted once (currently in good standing) and am suddenly unable to make mobile deposits for a period of 3 months. I called customer service twice and it’s a ridiculous built-in restriction of the system. So—if you are in a financial situation where you have recently overdrawn, they keep you from being able to deposit checks to —oh I don’t know—not overdraw again?? I am currently living out of state and have no branch near me to deposit at. Seems really “Covid friendly.”

Interest rate plummeted sooner than any other online account I have. Closing the account and receiving my funds took well over a month. They even made a huge mistake and sent me someone else's closing check. Complete incompetence.

I applied to BBVA bank online for new business and personal checking accounts on July 29 and received an email to the effect that it is being reviewed. As I had heard nothing for several days I emailed and received a reply as follows: "Please contact our new products department at 866-617-5503 option 1 to decision your application." I thought this a strangely worded response and would suspect that it was worded by someone whose first language was other than English, and possibly indicating a scam or phishing attempt.
I called the number provided which was answered as the fraud dept and was told that they were not needing any further info but would be hearing from the department responsible for approvals as to whether my application was accepted. It is now ten days following my application and I have heard nothing further! I checked them out on this site and could not believe the amount of complaints. I will not contact them again and if I ever receive an approval I certainly will not switch my accounts to them.

Great interest rate of 10%. Have to call annually to get a new card. Online website terrible. Have to email them to change your address. Minimum payment percentage double of my other cards. If not for the lower interest rate I would close the account.

This is a powerhouse boutique bank amongst the big players. Beginning early, a customer's relationship with BBVA grows over time into a personalized experience. The offered services are unique and cost effective, my favorite being the $2. monthly fee for all cashiers' checks. There is always a money expert available to advise or guide me to reach a goal or finance a major purchase. Banking is painless at BBVA.

I tried to open a credit card account. Surprisingly, you can not do it online. So, I called them and after giving my name, address, ssn, and dob, she said she has to send me a security code to my phone number. I said go ahead. But their system does not let her send it to my phone. So, she asked if I have any other phone number I can give. I said I can give my wife’s phone number, but she is sleeping now (I was away from home when I called) and I can call back. I called back again and this time a guy answered, and he tried sending it to my wife’s phone. Same issue. Neither my wife nor I ever had any problem getting a security code sent to our phones by any other financial institution before. On the plus side, both the reps are friendly. I suggested to the guy that he better let his management know about this issue, otherwise they will lose customers. I mean, what a stupid reason to lose a customer. I hope he does let his management know.

This is one of the few banks in Birmingham. Customer service is horrendous. They said they issued a new card, didn’t arrive and they stopped old one (been with bank for 3 years) and I have no access to my money and they want me to pay for their lost card. I mentioned I have been unhappy with their customer service and they hang up.

This is the first bank I've come across that's difficult. I pay my credit card monthly by check and they change & deposit the check but don't update my account & they keep sending me emails that I haven't paid my account. I have to literally show them proof each month that I've paid. It's freaking amazing. I open a checking account, deposit money but it don't show that any money has been deposited. I regret opening account or checking and in process of canceling account. Worse back ever, my gosh!

After calling the customer service number hold and them searching for an hour can't help me. Call the fraud department. Call there and again searching then hung up. Call back then searching, "Oh you have to call this mumber." Call that number and nope closed. Go all weekend and call on Mon. "Oh we have to verify your address." What the hell is my license. Nothing is ever an easy fix with this bank and your issue will not be resolved with ONE call to customer service. If you like being transferred over and over again and explaining your issue to three different people who don’t do anything to help you then you found the perfect bank. The branch will tell you to call customer service then customer service will redirect you back to the branch. This is how I’ve spent my week.
Now the branch put in a magical trouble ticket and it went to fairytale land to be resolved. The branch has no way to contact this department or follow up on the status of the trouble ticket. So how long does it take for the trouble ticket to be worked? No one could answer that question. All I want to do is add a secondary business account and have access to use the funds for Bill Pay and Payroll but the new account isn’t showing as an option. Customer service says you have to go back to the branch and sign an ACH form then they can add it. The branch says we have to submit a trouble ticket after we fill out a form. We don’t know how long it’s going to take.
THIS IS RIDICULOUS!! NO ONE HAS THE AUTHORITY IN THE BRANCH TO FIX SUCH A SIMPLE ISSUE? If you want to feel confident knowing that your bank is working hard for you and they will get the job done right the first time because they value you as a customer then don’t go to BBVA because you will be highly disappointed.

The car dealership put me with BBVA Compass for the last car I bought. Bank of America sends these payments to them each month. I have made these payments for 5 months, and not one month has been posted timely. I have just given up, and tried paying off the loan WAY early. I sent the loan payoff 3 weeks ago, and guess what... it hasn't been posted either. When I get this straightened out, I'll NEVER use this bank again. Also, It's very difficult to reach a real person, and when I do, they are extremely rude.

In Feb 2020 (before any COVID concerns), I have $90K equity in my primary home, 800 FICO score, great debt/income ratio, additional rental income, and even significant available credit (equal to about half the equity). We apply for a HELOC with BBVA COMPASS in the Woodlands Texas. Like many other reviewers we entered the runaround game, not replying to e-mails or answering calls, etc. We had to keep calling in and talking to managers and even they would not provide answers. For whatever reason they drug out the loan process 11 WEEKS! They used the waiting on appraiser, or underwriter excuse the whole time. They took so long we had to re-submit income and documentation a second time.
It seems like they were looking for a reason... any reason to not close this loan. The longer they waited the more the Covid could become a factor, but remember if everyone had done their jobs this should have closed in 21 days. Instead of the loan amount being for $45K they were saying it would be $11K. last week Karen (the underwriter) inform us that we will be closing this week (4-27-20). Instead of closing the loan, the district manager informed us that they killed the deal based on the fact that my wife was considering a job move (same industry) that would increase her pay $20K annually. She has not even taken the job but they used it as an excuse to kill the deal. VERY SHADY, not sure it is even legal what they did, false advertising to offer a loan that we were pre and conditionally approved for then pull it because my wife might take a new job not to mention the loan amount was significantly less than it should have been.
I am supposed to be working from home today right now, but I am taking this time to leave this review, which is something I rarely do, but I am bothered that much by how this bank handled this loan. I wanted to warn others to AVOID BBVA Compass! If there is any course of action I can take against them, please let me know. Thank you.

This bank is the worst bank I've had as far as I can remember and I've banked with many many banks. I've banked with the following: Chase, Citi, Bank of America, Washington Mutual, Ally, Kinecta Fed CU, Wescom CU, Union Bank, Barclays, Navy Fed Cu, Wells Fargo, and others I can't think of and BBVA is the worst. I am not just saying this or upset at them. Honest truth feedback. They keep advertising their "Award winning" mobile app but that too is worse banking app I've used LOL. I don't know if their upper management is just oblivious to what's really going on in everyday banking, but their bank sucks. I still have their business checking only because I have 12 different tenants paying rent through there, their branch location is convenient for them and I do not want to make it harder for my tenants to pay rent.
I wish I wrote down every negative thing I have come across working with this bank as it would be helpful feedback to consumers here and maybe bbva. But I do not have time or energy to do that and usually focus on positive things I need to do instead. Just writing this review is not what I like to spend time on but felt it was necessary to let people know. I will update this review with specifics as I can when I remember them again. Until then, find another bank unless you absolutely have to use them.

Consumers, please stay away from this bank!!! I started a dispute on Jan 8, 2020, and it was closed on Feb 7, 2020. I went to Ernesto's restaurant in Frisco, TX with my family and I left a tip in cash and I was charged 28.11. That is what I signed AND still have the receipt showing. Our server proceeded to write in his own tip and the new charge showed up as another amount. I called to dispute this with BBVA and they opened an investigation on Jan 8, 2020. I repeatedly told them that I had the original receipt and they continued to tell me that they would contact me if they needed "paper documentation". They never contacted me nor did they gave me an email to send in my paperwork. They "investigated" and on Feb 7, 2020, they told me that they did not have enough proof to substantiate a credit back to my account.
I was livid because they never asked me for paper documentation or gave me an email where I could send in the receipt showing the original amount even after my repeated attempts to ask them where I could send in my documentation or in this case the receipt. How can you deny a claim when you did not fully get my side of the story NOR would you let me send in my supporting documentation? This is fraud and I would like my money back. I contacted the restaurant and the manager has conveniently been out EVERY time that I call. This place is not close to my house and I am a teacher so I have not had the time to drive there. The server ended up getting a pretty big tip as I left cash on the table and he wrote in his own tip.
BBVA does not even care and I get conflicting answers each and every time I call this horrible customer service department. They are an awful bank and they did not do their due diligence when it comes to my claim. I called today, March 17 to open up another dispute and I asked them about the old one and how I could proceed. I was told by a Jose P. that they could not reopen or mess with the old claim from Jan 8th because it had "already been done". I spoke to a Jose P. on (March 17, 2020) and he was very rude. Determined to not give up, I called again today, March 17th and spoke to a Daniel who told me that they could, in fact, reopen an investigation as long as it is within 90 days. I may have missed my 90 days by now because of BBVA. I just want my money returned to my account. I have the receipt showing proof and they don't even want to see it. Consumers please stay away from this bank!!!

I've had trouble from the start with my money market account. BBVA does not have a physical location within 100 miles of me, but I signed up online due to their competitive interest and an offer of $150 to open the account. From the start, BBVA drafted my bank account twice instead of once, which overdrafted my account on a Friday and BBVA would not let me access the funds until 3 business days so I had no access to cash until Tuesday next week. Fortunately, I was able to use credit cards. After that, I inquired about the $150 for switching. BBVA had no record of the promotion. After several attempts, they "found" the promotion but told me it was only for $100 not $150. Fine. Whatever.
I asked for a card or check so that I could access the money in that account due to their steep transfer fees. BBVA required that I open up a checking account in order to receive those items. I did not open a checking account and therefore did not receive checks or a debit card. I'm trying to cancel now. BBVA called and asked if I'd like my funds wired for a $30 fee or sent via FedEx overnight. I chose the overnight option. The check did not arrive today as I was promised so I called BBVA. They have no record of their call to me the day prior. The funds are still there. I was told the department that could move them was already closed however they repeatedly offered to USPS mail my check to arrive in 7-10 days which I declined. I'll note that the call took a total of 53 minutes and I had to speak to 4 different people.
We ended the call with the supervisor saying I'd receive another call tomorrow morning to resolve the issue. At 9:26pm tonight I received an email that my funds have been disbursed. They were not wired and I have an account with FedEx that alerts me of incoming FedEx deliveries--I have not received an email of an incoming delivery. It seems like BBVA has likely mailed through USPS. My experience has been incredibly poor. I cannot recommend BBVA bank to anyone.

I made a routine online purchase using a debit card for my personal account. My daughter received a fraud alert text for that purchase. Two things wrong here-- purchase was legitimate and my daughter does not have access to this account, so I don't understand why she was contacted, unless there was some kind of error in the way BBVA handles our data. When I logged into our accounts online, I saw my debit card was now blocked so no further transactions would be possible until I contacted Customer Service.
When I called Customer Service, I spent in excess of an hour on hold listening to advertising that was so repetitive it was like Chinese water torture. They never did answer the call. I had a commitment to keep, so I wound up hanging up. I tried again on Monday. Another 30 minutes on hold, with repetitive advertising that cannot be escaped from. Again, call was never picked up. My card is still blocked. BBVA customer service department is MIA.

The online banking system is a horrible. I have a checking account with them and use their online banking to keep up with purchases and my automatic bill payments. At one point I was getting my check direct deposit but after 4 paychecks having more than $400 taken from them for overdraft fees I ended that. The online banking does not tell you the correct amount that is available in your account until days later even though it shows both a posted and available balance. Which is why the account was constantly being overdrafted.
I could make a purchase, the account would say I have the money available with both the posted and available balance. My statement days later would also say I made a purchase for $5 making my balance $20 but days later I'd get charged an $38 overdraft fee for each purchase. When I call and ask why their solution is to go into a branch or call to get the correct balance available. The only thing good about this bank so far is their ability to apologize and refund my money when they charge me accidental overdraft fees.

Updated on 06/30/2020: This is my second review of this Bank, for checking money market complaints see my other review. This review has to do with a 2.70% 1 Year CD with a principal of $10,000. I opened this account online and funded it with $10,000 only to find out that BBVA changed the rate to 2.3%. They explained that their online banking department makes these offers but BBVA Bank is unaware of these offers that their Marketing department advertises. This took a letter to the Alabama banking commission to cheerfully tell me I had no complaint since after writing the letter to them they decided that they would honor their advertisement for my special case and grant me the rate their marketing people sold me the CD rate at. Now this is not really a Kafkaesque horror story, it's BBVA Bank.
Now my CD has matured and they cannot transfer my funds from the CD to my money market account so that I can extract my money as soon as possible from this criminal enterprise. I previously was told for 6 hours over two days that this was caused by a software glitch that they would fix. This was a lie, I am now told they cannot transfer funds between my accounts without notarized letters explaining why I want my money returned to me. Never trust a word any of their employees say. They are either lying or misinformed and if they tell you they are going to take some action, they are not. They are getting rid of you and your silly complaint.
Now to get my own money out of the bank I am told that I must come to their online bank at the closest place (500 miles roundtrip) or send them snail mail with a self composed letter telling them why I want my own money back. Have the letter include 2 forms of picture ID (both sides), and have it notarized (the requirements vary depending on who you talk to last). Once it is put in the snail mail they will take 10 business days to process it, then extra time to put it in the mail. Once you have not received your funds for month or so you can then write to the Alabama banking commission explaining what BBVA has done to you. In another 60 days you might have your funds if you are lucky.
This is not an incompetence bank in my opinion, incompetence cannot be this vile. This is a criminal enterprise. Never, I mean never trust a bank run by South American nationals of any of their corrupt regimes. Don't do it, you will be very sorry. I had to give them one star. I wish I could give them negative 5 stars. BBVA is positively the worst bank I have dealt with in over 60 years of banking. Generally banks do an excellent job at customer service. I think this one must be run by the Spanish Inquisition.
Original: I opened a money market account for their 100 dollar bonus promotion with $10,000 deposit. Requirement: the $10,000 must remain on deposit for 90 days and the bonus will be paid within the next 60 days after the 90 days the funds are on deposit - Lie. They took the promotion down and put up another saying the 10,000 must remain on deposit for 90 days AFTER they terminated their program (two months later). This changed it to 120 days + 60 days or 180 days in total. Since they take the online offer down you have no recourse to hold them to their original offer. Then they will not pay the bonus until you make repeated complaints that go unaddressed. After repeated complaints they posted my "bonus" 7.5 months later.
Here is the catch: In the meantime while they have your cash on the string for their "bonus" they drop the interest rates and penalize you 15 dollars a month if you let the account balance go below $10,000 after the 120 days. This means that after the 90 (now changed to 120 days) bonus period if you want your money back you will be paying them interest for keeping your money from you. They keep changing the rules after they have a lock-box on your money. Next that changed the rules so you can't take your money out in less than 2 months. That's 60 dollars in additional fees for your 100 bonus.
Shortly after opening this account I purchased a 1 year CD for $10,000 at 2.7% from their online application. As soon as they received my funds (deposited online through the ad) I checked and they dropped the rate to 2.3%. I had to complain by mail through the Alabama banking commission for them to "graciously" change the rate to what they were still advertising. The customer service people told me that the bank doesn't know what offers their online marketing people put up so they don't pay attention to honoring what's in their ads.
Be forewarned their employees are always polite as they screw you. I consider this bank to be a criminal enterprise. I have dealt with hundreds of banks and never had a complaint. I am a careful banker and watch my funds. I have never had any trouble with any bank until BBVA Compass. They really need to be prosecuted for bank fraud.

I deal with this so-called "bank" at my job on a daily basis. They constantly and regularly debit our deposits and process them like a check rather than crediting our business accounts. The image is a deposit slip... But description says "check cleared", along with a debit to the account(s). Speaking to anyone is a rather fruitless endeavor, as well. Then they have the audacity to tell colleagues trying to make a cash deposit in branch, that they'll count the deposit money later, there's a line. She literally put the money in a pile behind the counter. Umm what?? What kind of bank operates like this??
They constantly debit/adjust the cash deposits much much later, and even though we have a receipt from the branch stating the deposit amount, it does NOT match what they actually deposited into our account. Because they don't count the money at time of transaction or they "verify" it later. This is LITERALLY INSANE.
Stay far far away if you value your sanity. Thank GOD I do not have a personal account with them. And the fees!! Lord help me. Still haven't figured out how they actually calculate our monthly fees, there's absolutely no rhyme or reason to it, and the amount changes monthly. Oh and watch out, if they can charge you extra fees and they think you won't notice, they WILL! I have to send a list every month! They always claim they've taken care of it, but nope, next month there it is again! They may have changed their name to BBVA or whatever, but it's just extremely poor handling of money. And this is a BANK!!??

This is the WORST, most RIDICULOUS credit card company ever. They gave me a credit line of almost $12k but every time I try to use a card, at a gas station or a restaurant it gets declined. I have to call them and spend 20 minutes on the phone, explaining that I'm trying to have a dinner or spend $30 at a gas station. I understand the credit card security. Nobody wants to be scammed or have their CC number stolen. However it gets to a point when I get embarrassed in front of a store clerk or a restaurant owner as though I were a crook, trying to spend $30 on a stolen credit card. It's happened to me at least four times, in a matter of four weeks.
When I call them and ask about that, they say "that's how the system is set up. There's nothing I can do about it. We need to monitor high-risk transactions". HIGH RISK!?!? A $20 lunch is a HIGH RISK?? What if I take my friends to a restaurant and try to pay a $300 bill? And I don't have enough cash on me to cover it? What a bunch of nonsense this company is! Updated on 01/09/2020: I called back a second time in the same day. I get asked a series of security questions. They send a security code to my phone and I give them the code. He says he is going to get my replacement credit card but he needs to put me on hold. I wait on hold for a long time, and then he says he will call me back. Of course, he never calls me back. I first asked for a replacement card roughly a month ago, and they said they would send one but never did. I have been trying to get a replacement card for roughly a month. This is not the first time that I have had trouble getting a replacement card. The bank actually has been OK on other things but getting a replacement debit card is like pulling teeth. Other banks have issued new cards right on the spot in their physical offices, but with this bank, it is necessary to deal with total numbskulls over the phone. I have had it. It is time to get a new bank.
Orginal Review: I spend a good 30 minute waiting and then talking to the so called customer service rep. I answer about 5 security questions correctly including the last deposit and last check amount and number. The guy asks me my address that I have used as my only address for years. He acts like it is the wrong address and then says he is transferring me to a supervisor but I get put back into phone hell and I get "good bye" from the computer. I have had this kind of experience repeatedly. The bank is Ok as long as you deal with their on line services but dealing with an actual person is a complete disaster.

They have to "write a ticket" for every request. During my last call, the csr was a total goon and I could hear a group of people cracking each other up in the background. Awesome. They shouldn't be allowed to conduct business in the US. I am refinancing my loan through a more trustworthy institution. Hopefully this place will be shut down someday or the leadership will be arrested for fraud. One can dream.

Just like many of you all, BBVA is a fraud! They stated we didn’t have money in the account to cover certain transactions. Which, what they say doesn’t match our records etc. So they say we had so and so balance so we were charged the insufficient fees. I take the info they gave me to do the calculations on my end but nope still does not make sense. They really didn’t try to help or go into more details when I stated my balance from the week to the ending balance. I already contacted CFPB, with my records and hopefully this will resolve my issues. Their banking system is a joke. This bank you really need to stay away from.

You will have trouble contacting customer service by phone. The website was difficult to set up an online payment. I received a reference number yet the payment didn't go through and they charged me two fees for one payment that didn't go through yet did not alert me to the problem. I spent way too much time on the phone to correct this and the best I received was a "ticket" put in for review of a reversal of the bogus charges they added to my balance. Stay away from this company.

They get one star because that’s the only way I have to write a review about them, not because they deserve it. WORST BANK EVER!!! 7 years as a customer and I have a thousand stories but, to make it short, I’ll say that if you start working with them what you will really start is an eternal relationship with their call center where never, I repeat, never, you will get your problems solved. Problems that, of course, they create with their inefficiency and that will lead you in a kind of loop to talk to a person, and another, and another. Do yourself an impagable favor and walk out their doors even before you walk them in.

All of the Christmas money for my 20 year old's Christmas gifts and bill money. What the hell is wrong with this bank. We have called to fix this matter for months and the customer service rep hung up in our face because we asked to speak to a supervisor. I would tell everyone to stay clear of this bank.

I have been with BBVA Compass for over 10 years. The first few years were just fine and I was satisfied with the service. However, in the past 5 years my experience has been that this is a Bank not motivated to help their customers and are operating as if it was 100 years ago. Most recently, I sold my home in Texas and moved to Virginia. I went to wire the money from my account for my down payment and was told it was impossible to wire over $5,000 unless you physically came to a branch. Well, there are no branches in Virginia.
After hours on the phone speaking with 6 different BBVA reps, all I heard was a repetitive “no, we can’t do that” and ultimately was told that it is impossible to get my money out in time for the closing in two days. No wire, no cashiers check, no adding someone to my account, no writing a check, no branch manager discretion, nothing that could be accomplished in 48 hours. They were not at all solution focused or intent on helping me as the customer get my money out in time for my closing.
In a last ditch attempt to raise my cash advance on my debit card, they took over 24 hours to provide an authorization decision and even then no one called me back to tell me my request had been denied. The impact on me was to delay closing, reschedule movers, pay for additional temporary housing and a ton of undue stress during one of the most stressful life-events you go through in adulthood. Explaining to my 6 year old daughter why she couldn’t move into her new room when she expected was tough.
Listen, I get the additional security in this time of increased wire fraud. I understand and respect that. However, I felt completely like they are holding my money hostage and in this day and age of technology advancement there is no reason they do not have an alternate way of identity proofing clients that are out of state, especially long time clients in good standing. And to feel that they did nothing to work with me on a resolution but just kept saying “I’m sorry, there is nothing we can do” is not the kind of Bank I want to do business with. Add on top of this an experience with BBVA as my mortgage lender 4 years ago in which the incompetence of the lender was such that it was the worst real estate transaction of my career, of which I have had several. I should have known better. If you want a bank that is customer and solution focused, and that takes smart advantage of technology and process, this is not the Bank for you!

Unfortunately, I experienced BBVA Compass Bank predatory lending and baking scam. After my loan matured, in which the bank's employee lead me to believe this was an open line of credit, I had to reapply for the line of credit or pay the full amount of the loan. BBVA Compass Bank checked my credit (3) hard inquiries, all within 30 days of each inquiry, to renew my line of credit loan. After my credit score went from 721 to 545, I was offered a personal loan at 28% interest or pay the full amount of loan. I expressed my deep concerns to the branch manager, she stated, "I know we've checked your credit a lot but we can offer you a personal loan". I am paying a high percent interest rate to the bank now.

Although, I love the credit card and its interest rates, there are definitely issues. You cannot change your address online, they require you to send them a private message in order to change, address, phone or email. Every single year, I have to contact them to get a new card, when the previous one expires. This has been ongoing now for 14 years. As well, they keep sending me paper statements. I have opted out of paper statements, via their site and mobile app. Yet I keep getting them. When you send private message about it, they send you the same link with instructions on how to stop them. You follow the link's instructions to a "T", only to find you already have them off. So they are the worst credit card company with the best interest rate, is the only reason, I deal with this pathetic excuse of a bank.

I've been a Compass Bank (now BBVA) customer for over 20 years, and quite frankly loved their personal service. However, they have instituted a new online banking system that is just horrendous to navigate. First they just deleted (lost) all the EFT relationships that I formerly had established. It's been a week trying to use their system to reestablish that EFT capability... I honestly don't think I will be able to, despite probably 20+ phone calls. Second, while I fully support security measures, they now only allow verification to be done by only one cell phone. All my other banking relationships provide e-mail, hard telephone line, cell phone line, voice recognition options... (AmEx Bank, CIT Bank, Wells Fargo, Charles Schwab.)
I've always had a preferred account with no charges for wire transfers or EFT transactions... They do not recognize that when establishing a new account. They are no longer the same bank as before. I would advise caution if you decide to open an account with them.

I've spent hours trying to work with BBVA customer service. BBVA agents miscopied my bank account number so 2 payments (July, August)were reversed while I was away on a long trip. Despite hours on the phone trying to solve the riddle. They gave me a "delinquent" status and my credit score went down 73 points! I'm currently hoping they reverse that, and realize it's their fault, but they haven't acknowledged any blame for many of the errors they've already made over months. The buck stops with no one!
I then paid off the 2 month balance but they somehow thought in the upcoming billing I still owed them for 2 months! I went over it with 4 people, the second one told me that I first missed a payment a month earlier. (June) I accepted he wouldn't lie to me so I payed the double payment, only to find when I looked into my bank statement in June, it shows the payment was debited on my account! He gave me false information and got me to pay double. When I phoned back to cancel the payment and pay for the one month that was due, the agent acknowledged the error, but he told me they can neither cancel the payment or refund extra money I paid. And what's more, that extra payment won't be credited toward the next months statement! So they profited from giving me false information about a non payment!
Up to that point, I argued with 4 agents in 2 hour long calls who couldn't realize that I owed for one payment until I finally asked the last agent to read the statement they mailed out to me. He finally realized I was right, but was unable to formally say so,. At which point he profusely apologized but never admitted the wrong doing.
I sympathize with agents where English is not their first language, but they have to be able to understand what the customer is saying to them.Often they'll say they understand, until you find out they don't. This is just the tip of the iceberg and I've only been with them 6 months.Their agents can't access records, they pass off to another agent, where you have to start your story all over again, but no one has any authority to really effect anything. Do not accept anything they say to you. They should be reported.

BBVA (Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria) - USA is the U.S., FDIC-insured, arm of a Spanish multinational banking group. It is one of the largest (multibillion-dollar) financial institutions in the world. Having ascertained these basic facts and the bank's financial soundness, but with considerable trepidation, I decided to open an online savings (money market) account with BBVA, because it offered the highest APY among those that I could find online. I immediately began to regret that decision and closed the account only two days after it had been opened and my funding deposit had finally become available for transfer.
I am writing this review solely to warn others who may be attracted by BBVA's high savings yield to stay away and look elsewhere. Here is why. To shorten my long list of grievances, the bank has simply refused to enter the 21st century and operates on the basis of policies and procedures that remind me of the mid-20th century. Just a few examples. The application process alone is sheer torture. After filling in the usual personal information, BBVA wanted me to scan and upload a photo ID for verification of my identity. I tried, but its online system was unable to upload the file.
After multiple unsuccessful attempts, I finally called and reached a representative, who was at a loss to explain the failure and then suggested I send the photo ID as an e-mail attachment, which I did. Nothing happened for several days, not even an acknowledgment that the e-mail had been received, much less that my ID had been successfully verified. To accomplish that required a few more phone calls. All in all, it took about one week merely to establish the online account, several more days of staring at a zero account balance until my funding deposit was finally credited. Unless I receive an ex post facto notification at some future date, no interest accrued during that intervening period.
BBVA continues to do some of its business exclusively via "snail snail;" for example, adding beneficiaries to a BBVA online savings account requires a signed paper form to be mailed in via USPS. Imagine -- this is 2019! Its online policies and procedures are opaque, onerous, and customer-averse, and even simple transactions require verification via special code transmission. BBVA's online menu is like an endless, hopeless labyrinth from which there is no escape. My advice: Please don't be lured by the high APY. It's just not worth the unspeakable anger and frustration.

I fell victim to a scam by a fake employment company that told me to use their check to buy the online materials I needed for the job. Being such a large amount of money, the bank put my account on hold for several days for verification purposes. Understandable.
A week later, I am rejected completely from signing in to my account on the BBVA mobile app; unable to access my routing or account numbers, my deposit statements, nothing. I went to the nearest physical location to try to seek help. One employer said that for closed accounts, they have to speak to their manager who was not there that day so they could not help me. They told me to come another day. After calling customer service, I was put on hold and then hung up on before even being transferred. I called again and got through to a representative. She told me that my account got closed automatically and that she can’t open it back up for my situation. ‘There is no possible way to re-open it’, she said.
I asked if I could open up another bank account and her reply was that my name, phone number, address, and Social Security number were permanently saved to a list that denies me any entry to rejoin as a BBVA member. Mind you, I still had money in this account which was not refunded to me before they closed it. Now I’m being told there was no way I could get my money back. The representative also added in, “Well at least we didn’t report your name to other banks that would prevent you from joining anywhere anymore.” So now I’m being branded as a criminal?! Thursday, April 18, 2019 BBVA Compass Bank Customer Complaint I am issuing this complaint to the BBVA Compass Bank Corporate Office. I would like to particularly express my dissatisfaction with Teresa at their Fraud Management Back Office. She seems to be operating rogue-like, making decisions or claims without evidence. Neither Teresa nor Compass Bank hold the authority to operate as if they are the IRS or any government entity for that matter. Several people have attempted to reason with her regarding releasing funds from my account. It is standard procedure that when a member closes their bank account the bank issues them a cashier’s check immediately.
I do not have any deposits or debits pending so there is no valid reason for Teresa to prevent a member from taking their own money out of their own account. Even another bank associate Mr. Raphael ** personally requested that a cashier’s check be issued, and Teresa has refused to cooperate or coordinate with him. Upon calling customer service numerous times I have been told that I simply need to go to the banking center and collect my cashier's check. Yet when I get there, they give me a totally different story claiming the funds need to be held for an undisclosed amount of time for unknown reasons. I have wasted several trips to the bank and several hours conducting dispute phone calls.
Please see my grievances below:
• In March 2019 I was persuaded to open Checking, Savings and Business accounts by John, the BBVA Compass Branch Manager and his assistant Mr. Raphael ** in Garland, Texas. Despite my prior negative experiences with this banking institution, I was convinced I should give them another chance. This is now my biggest regret.
• BBVA Compass Bank closed my Checking, Savings and Money Market accounts without advance notice, without probable cause or any explanation. Date of Closure: Friday, April 12, 2019
• BBVA Compass Bank Froze all funds in my Checking, Savings and Business accounts without valid reasoning.
• BBVA Compass Bank is currently withholding my own money that I deposited via cash/wire: Checking Acct: $23,879, Business Acct: $15,000, Savings Acct: $100,000.
• Back in 2017 my company used First Data; BBVA’s Merchant in order to process two $15,000 credit card payments from one of my clients. First Data chose to hold the funds which led to a long drawn out dispute with the bank in order to get it released. Since BBVA Compass Bank couldn’t handle the issue appropriately I became frustrated and chose to part ways with the bank.
• BBVA Compass Bank is claiming that they were the ones who closed my accounts in 2017 which is a flat out lie. I am the one who chose to leave BBVA due to their improper handling of funds and negligence.
• I was hoping as a professional that another fellow professional at BBVA would care enough to assist me in this matter. I thought due to my close relationship with Mr. ** at the Virginia Driveway/75 Mc Kinney Location would yield some results. However, after attempting to reach him 15 times via text, phone, voicemails and leaving messages with his assistant and colleagues he has refused to respond.
• In an effort to solve my problem in a timely manner I reached out to BBVA Regional District Director, Joseph ** who happens to be the boss of Mr. ** [Mc Kinney Branch Manager], Mr. ** and John [Managers of north Garland Location] and Eaton ** his assistant. I have left numerous messages and they never called me back. I have been left with no alternative or solution but to file a complaint.
• Due to my funds being held I have lost the opportunity to participate in a Hotel Auction, Tuesday April 16th. This was a 1.8-million-dollar deal now down the drain. In addition, BBVA has pulled my credit without my consent, reporting that I applied for a loan which I absolutely never did. Reporting Date: April 13, 2019. This has caused my credit score to be severely lowered. As a business owner and business investor this effects my ability to conduct business. BBVA lied by denying they ever pulled my credit however I have received Alert Notifications from the credit bureaus confirming they did it.
I am prepared to explore all my options to defend myself against these violations of my rights as a US citizen and high tax bracket taxpayer. After all the money and business referrals I have brought to Compass Bank this attempt to hold my financial property cannot go unchecked or ignored.

This bank hires young children with big egos to handle your money. I'm assuming it's to pad their bottom line by getting them with no experience. These kids put holds your money without notification (BTW, same business checks deposited weekly for 14 years, never a returned check EVER!!) on their power trips.
Try and find a manager?!! Good luck with that! Either there isn't one, they're in a meeting or they were transferred to another branch. We spend several minutes, sometimes hours trying to find branches that won't put holds on your deposits. They also charge overdrafts fees when technically you are not overdrawn with pending transactions. There could be pending transactions that may not necessarily ever clear. This bank considers this a negative and charge $38 per item. That to me is a scam and I agree with the other persons nearly on every point in the previous comments. Dealership stop payment. Issued another check.
Overnight to the Alabama office. Received check on 3/14/2019. Signed by Murray. Because compass bank is so stupid, sent the 2nd check back. Also finding that the 1st check had a stop payment on it. My account is now 38 days past due with additional charges added to this acct. I have talk to Compass bank 13 times. 4 rude incompetent managers about my account. I received a letter that I was pre-authorized for a credit card with a 13 month 0% APR. I applied for the card over the phone. The person helping me verified my pre-authorization over the phone and then submitted the application. At the conclusion, he confirmed I was approved for a 10K credit line and an APR of 17.49% after 13 months of a 0% APR. However, when I received the credit card in the mail, the letter stated that I had a 2K credit line and an APR of 27.49% APR after a 13-month introductory offer of 0%. This is incredibly different. When I called to dispute the discrepancy, I was shuffled between low-level support associates who would put me on hold and talk to a manager but would not let me speak to one directly.
Then, they said the amount given and APR were correct. I've escalated this situation several times. I finally reached a manager who confirmed that he wrote in the notes that I should just accept the APR given and stated that it was a "mistake", one that he meant to put on another account. I was finally escalated to another manager. She told me that she reviewed the recorded application process and can confirm that I was authorized 10K and 17.49% APR, but that the employee made a mistake (how could he, he did the application line through their system) and they will talk to him about it. She also said that the underwriter reviewed my situation and CHANGED IT, to the current offer given.
I asked on what basis was the change made and she kept saying "we're going to talk to the employee". I said, the underwriter is the one who changed it, clearly it wasn't an employee error; on what basis did he make the change? She then said "I can't tell you that". When I asked to be escalated to corporate for complaints, she said she works in corporate and I cannot be escalated further. When I asked for the name of the CEO, she provided a fake name "Onur Denc" - I made her spell it. When I did my own research online I found it was Javier Rodriguez Soler, someone who was named in January 2019 not February 2019 when we had the call. I have never been treated so poorly. This is a terrible organization. DO NOT bank here or accept their credit card offers.

I recently got a credit card through compass because it offered a 0% interest rate for 12 months and had a large purchase to make. When I went to use the card for the first time on this high, it would not go through. It kept saying chip error etc. Remembering that the promotion also offered a 0% transfer fee, I decided to use my Chase credit card to complete the transaction (which had zero problems letting me complete the transaction). I then called Compass to ask if there was a problem with my card because for some reason it would not going through. They informed me that even though I had a $15,000 credit limit, I was not able to use more than $5000 a day. When I explained to them this made zero sense, and prevented me from using my card for the reason I acquired it for, their answer was simply, "this was done to protect you".
The next day I went to transfer my purchase onto this card, and was told I would be charged a 4% fee for transferring the balance. I got the complete run around when speaking to customer service about this, again with excuses how this was not their fault. So I decided to go work with my local Compass bank manager, where I have been an account holder with high balances for 16 years. After again explaining my situation, they "escalated" it to a district level where their review remained the same, this was not their fault. Unbelievable how poorly and short sighted they treat their current customer base. I will be closing down all of my accounts with them due to this and going to Chase.

Unacceptable when the problem is not the checking account. They could not even find my phone number and I've had the account for 20 years. VERY VERY rude and unacceptable behavior. Cannot make loan payments online because THEIR tech support cannot find out why THEIR site is having issues.
They just want to go into my checking account. That has nothing to do with it. Unable to get a supervisor or CS in the states. I've never liked this bank and stopped using their CC because of questionable info about them (name, location when went BBVA) but now it's worse. Try USAA or Vystar. Stay away from Compass. The amount came out as it should. Then, last month the payment came out of my account twice! It's almost $400 and I didn't budget for that. I called them and my personal bank and it was corrected pretty quickly. This month it happened again! And this time it isn't being corrected quickly at all! They said I must have gone online and made an extra payment (I did not). Now they are saying they need to investigate and it could be 10 business days before I'm credited! I sent them a copy of my bank statement showing the amount came out twice (which they requested). I had to go into my account and remove my recurring payment and my bank info so it doesn't happen again. This is getting old and I'm regretting getting a loan from them.

Wish I could rate them a 0. Absolutely terrible bank: (1) Lack of care for customers - there was an issue with my mom's account due to incorrect charges from a merchant. They never alerted her and instead made tons from charging her overdraft fees and interest. My mom goes into the same branch every 2 weeks for "personal service" yet none of those idiot representatives who know her by name alerted her to any issues with her account. When I called them out on this, their response was "I just work here" and immediately try to sell her another product.
(2) Sub-par account products - they charge to mail paper statements to customers and limit the number of withdrawals you can make from a money market or checking account. What kind of bank does this, especially when one holds a large volume of funds with them??? If you are an older person who is not Internet savvy, how are you supposed to actively monitor your account??? (See statement 1 above.)
(3) Outdated practices compared to other banks - another issue was thousands were stolen from my money market account and they had no mechanism in place to proactively monitor the account or alert me to fraud even though the transactions were outside my usual pattern. Had to speak to three different departments to dispute the issue and waste an hour of my time. Resolution pending. How is this bank still allowed to operate? Check their online reviews - none are higher than 3.5/5 stars and most are 1-2 out of 5 stars. This bank is overdue for a class action lawsuit. Save yourself a world of headaches and sign up with a different bank.

I work for a well known company in US as a designer, with a good reputation. I have worked hard for seven years to build up a good credit for myself and I have bank account in other banks.
The bankers of BBVA come to our company once in a while to advertise their bank and ind new customers. They came and talked and advertised so I opened an account with them and asked our HR to deposit my paychecks in the account. At the time of opening of the account I was a legal permanent resident and a few months later a US citizen. I provided all necessary documents for them and everything seemed alright. After couple of month I changed my payroll deposit account to my previous bank but didn't close the account and left 7000$ in m account.
I was surprised when I receive an email after almost a year that bank has closed my account. When I called them the didn't explain why they did that. No explanation, no reason nothing at all. After going back and for to the branch and calling the customer care for several times they issued me a check and still were not wiling to give me an answer why my account had to be closed!!
In a letter that later they sent to me it says: "The account is being closed and will not be renewed." I don't care if I don't have account with this bank, but it's important for me to be treated respectfully. I have been treated like I am a kind of criminal or have done something wrong or illegal using my account. This hurts my feelings and may hurt my credit that I have been working hard for it. NEVER EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS BANK AGAIN and advise you not to do so.

Employee advised me that BBVA Compass guarantees that they have the lowest home equity line of credit rates in the state. I was promised that I would get a 5.75% rate as long as my credit was higher than 740, AND I would qualify for an addition 2.5% off the original rate once the following things were done: Open checking account = -1.25%. Pull out $50,000 of the credit total and leave out for 3 months = -1%. Employee would give me a manual relationship promo = -.25%. Being conditioned to think I am getting a 3.25% rate, I was ready to sign up for the line of credit. The employee sent me a list of items (taxes, paystubs, mortgage, insurance, etc) that I needed to submit along with my application to ensure everything went to plan. I submitted all required documents and signed paperwork on 12/4/18 to allow BBVA Compass to start the HELOC process. I opened the checking account in person on 12/5/18 and deposited $100.
On 12/7/18 I received an email from a processor requesting that I sign a borrower's authorization for a home equity line of credit at 7.45% and requesting some of the items that I had already submitted to the employee. I replied all to the email and told them that this is different from what I was promised and do not want to move forward.
On Monday 12/10/18 I went into the branch and spoke with employee that offered me the line of credit to get an explanation. She said that she saw the email and was not sure why things changed from what we agreed on. She advised that she does not have control of what company is willing to offer me, but can email for clarification. We agreed that she would email and let me know. On 12/11/18 I sent an email to the processor asking for a solution. No response from anyone at BBVA Compass since 12/7/18. I took out an automobile loan with Compass just over a year ago. Recently, I refinanced this loan with USAA. USAA sent the payoff check on November 15th. This payoff was actually $927 over the payoff amount. The same day, my personal check payment of $580 was cashed by them, resulting in a $1507 overpayment. I called, and verified with one of their representatives that the overpayments were made, and was assured that I would receive a refund within 10 days. Fast forward to Dec. 7th, still no refund check. I called one of their representatives again, and was assured that the loan had been closed, but that the check wouldn't be processed until Dec. 11th. No reason was given, so I asked to speak with a supervisor.
While on hold, the line went dead. I called back and spoke with a different representative, and asked again to speak with a supervisor. I spoke with a gentleman named Santiago **. He told me that this loan had not been closed until Nov. 20th, and that the refund check wouldn't even be cut until Dec. 11th. I explained that it had been 3 weeks, and that this refund was supposed to have been refunded within 10 days. His explanation was the 10 days meant 10 "working days". My calculations show that date to be Dec. 4th, if that had actually received the payoff on Nov. 20th.
He then, rather rudely, told me that that was how it was going to be processed, period. No further discussion. This has to be the most rude customer service experience that I have had in 30 years. I will never do business with this company again, and would strongly discourage others. Well when he passed, they opened the new account and didn't move over the beneficiary to the new account. This caused a delay in having access to his account to pay his bills.
I went in to pay his mortgage and his home equity loan and they were unable to provide a receipt for either of those. The manager took my money and gave me a handwritten note - which was acceptable, and given he asked for a different amount than what I paid for the previous month. On every single instance that we had to have in contact with the bank has been mind boggling. They couldn't get anything straight. But, until you sign up, you don't realize that they don't accept electronic payments. If you pay your credit card bill online, they force your bank to print an actual check and mail it. On top of that, their "system" takes a full week to "process" this check after it comes in the mail. This means that your payment is always late. Once it is even a few days late (mine was 3 days), they immediately close your account and report your card as "closed by company due to late payment" on your credit report. They refused to work with the BBB system to address this, saying that it's in the Terms and Conditions that they have the right to close the account, and so too bad for you.

I decided to cancel the auto pay so it doesn't post in September recognizing that I am not getting my money back, even though this issue put my bank account negative temporarily and made payments to other creditors bounce resulting in fees. I am pretty confident they will hit me with a non-payment fee for September after this... I will never do business with this bank again and I implore you, the reader, to not do so either.

I got a car and they set up my loan with BBVA Compass. My complain is about my paid off amount. I paid my car off on 8/8/18, so I was waiting for my title to get home. After 3 weeks I started wondering why I still haven't received my title. Well, I called customer service and it looked like I still had a $27.59 balance on my account after I paid it off. This was very frustrating and unfortunately for me I still have to wait another 3 to 4 more weeks to get everything resolved. That's if they remove the charges. Supposedly, the online system was wrong when I paid off my amount and I should've have call BBVA Compass or go to a branch office to get the correct amount. I don't think this is right and their system should be updated. People should trust when they go to pay online.

I had a wreck July 3rd in which my car was deemed total loss. My insurance cut two checks the following two weeks (I had to complete paperwork before they sent the remaining). The entire time my insurance is working towards paying off my car, I HAVE CALLED BBVA THREE WEEKS STRAIGHT and by week three I finally got someone on the phone. She tells me that my checks never cleared so she gives me an address to give to my insurance which I did the following morning.
Fast forward to another three weeks, I call again just see if the checks have cleared to learn that AGAIN they say that they have received nothing AFTER giving me the address to send it to. At this point, I am livid. I paid on time and was a great customer to them. However, now they are a complete nightmare to do business with. I will not pay another dime to them until they have this cleared and they figure out why they can't receive checks to the address that THEY gave to me! Absolutely unprofessional.

I deposited my check Saturday. Needed to pay bills. BBVA Compass as a whole was closed and no phone services available. I did my part and deposited my check. The money was good for that check. Had to make payments. The check cleared and BBVA hit me with NSF. I've been with BBVA since 2000. It was Guaranty Bank at the time.
I called to see if they could reverse the NSF fees since I had deposited the check before any transactions were made. At the leisure of the bank they cleared the check days later. I gave them a chance to do good business and reverse the NSF since they had the check already before the transactions were made. I was hung up on. And the supervisor was unsympathetic and of no help. His name was Edgar #**. BBVA exploited and took my money. They did not reverse the fees. Nor show appreciation for a long time loyal customer. They have a record of high identity theft as well. I've had my account compromised 7 times. Do to their weak identity theft protection. I'm leaving this bank.

STAY AWAY! They are so bad, I wouldn't even give them a rating, but they get a one because I had to choose. I opened a checking account on 7/12/2018 at the FRY ROAD branch in Katy Texas. I had a $1300 check with me for initial funds. I was told by the banking specialist (hahaha) that the fastest way to gain access to my funds was to do a mobile deposit, it would only take three days, so I did. WHAT A COMPLETE LIE!!! The funds had "POSTED" by Monday, July 16, 2018 but they were not available to use.
I called customer support and was informed that the mobile deposit could take 3-5 days to be "AVAILABLE" in my account. I was then told they would be available on 07/18/2018... ANOTHER COMPLETE LIE!!! I went to the bank at 4:30 pm on the 18th and was then told, "It will be available today after midnight." WHAT??? SAY THAT AGAIN??? "TODAY AFTER MIDNIGHT!!! That is NOT TODAY, that is TOMORROW. How stupid does one have to be. They have now held MY MONEY hostage and unusable by me for 7 days. Additionally, I was informed by the Assistant Bank Manager that mobile deposit WAS NOT the fastest way to get my funds.
Ironically, I go home to find my debit card in the mail. A lot of good that will do... I don't have access to my funds yet. Finally, I went to the bank on 07/19/2018 to REMOVE my funds and close my account. I was asked for ID and proudly presented them with my newly obtained Texas Driver's License (in paper form, because Texas hasn't figured out how to make them while you wait for four hours... ugh) and I was told that they would not honor the paper ID. Well hell, DPS just took my last license, so I had to drive home and get my passport. They are a bunch of lying, untrained, ignorant people ("today after midnight"). I will forever tell people to avoid BBVA COMPASS at all costs!

Avoid Compass (BBVA) at all cost! They claim to have ability to support international business and customers but cannot even support the US lower 48 states. I've submitted numerous formal complaints and their services and problems remain awful. There are plenty of kind and polite people who work there but the company has little to zero customer benefits that the employees can help with. On that same note 50% of the employees mislead and misinform customers and try to say it's federal regulations on how the bank is set up.
I'm sure they follow regulations to an extent; however, when I start to challenge on the difference between policy and federal regulations under Title 12 CFR, the employees lose ground on what they're talking about. I have experienced late automatic bill payments on large sums of money, I've been blocked from accessing my own liquid funds, I've been delayed for approximately a month and a half for a debit card replacement, I've been forced to use funds from my savings because of $1300/day & $3000/mo limits on my checking account when transferring to other Compass bank members to name some precise issues.
After being forced to use my savings with more stringent limits, they charge me excess transfer fees and benefit themselves. It is not right when you need urgent funds of your own, liquid money ready to go, and they don't allow you to spend your own money! I'm pretty sure that is illegal somehow. I don't wish to waste my time, energy, or money anymore with this capricious financial institute and highly recommend banking elsewhere.

I cannot recall how many emails I have had from the online customer service. I live overseas and the worst thing I did before leaving the US was to open an account with Compass Bank (now BBVA). Despite everything I went through on my requirements from operating it from overseas and all the confirmations I got - none of it was true. For years I didn't get mail/statements because their mailing systems couldn't cope with an extra line for another country. I constantly get told by online help to go into a branch and speak to someone and use mobile alerts (despite always telling them I live overseas). The mobile alerts do not work for any other country than US, Canada and Mexico... my debit card doesn't work online despite being told it should... and all I read is bad reviews on this bank.
Seriously do not use this bank, they need a major overhaul in their thinking and operating not to mention in educating their support staff to think outside the US box. If I don't use my account within a 12 month period, the make it inactive then it is a royal nightmare to sort out. Unfortunately living overseas permanently makes it difficult to open an account with another bank in the US and not be there to do it in person - despite being a US citizen. I keep trying to give them feedback on all the problems I am experience (which are probably very different to their regular customers) but I don't feel it goes anywhere. All the answers seem to come out of a customer service bible - all same wording... If you want more of an international thinking bank - try HSBC or Citibank - they are brilliant overseas and probably also in the US.

They claim that my account was already overdrawn when those withdrawals were taken. My records show that I had more than $300 more than was required to pay all three bills. I was NEVER told that a bank like BBVA can close a customer’s account for no reasons until the day my accounts were forced to close on March 27, 2018. BBVA closed my family account last November and closed my accounts for NO reasons in March. The truth to be told the reasons for closing my accounts were the racism, discrimination, bully and retaliation. I stood up and asked questions and pointed errors that BBVA made to its regional officer, Mr. David **. Not only Mr. ** did not get the answer for us, he turned around to close my accounts and made an example out of my accounts' closing for NO reasons.
I had my accounts open since 1986 with Guaranty, then BBVA bought it. I NEVER wrote a hot check, always had a positive balance, I was an outstanding loyal customer all thru years. All communications was documented. Please ask your consumers be aware that BBVA will close their accounts for NO reasons. So, there is no so-called loyalty, so-called customer services. It is on its consumer deposit account agreement, page 18. Closing your account for NO reasons. BBVA will not tell its customer when you open your account, until your accounts closed for NO reasons. Please ask your consumers be very aware, do not stand up and do not ask questions, do not point the errors and mistakes to BBVA. If you did, your accounts will be closed for NO reasons.
Further more, BBVA will ask you the purpose of using the bank. This bank is the absolute worst to deal with for an auto loan. Others have mentioned an online payment system for auto loans; however, I have never been able to get that system to recognize my loan and I am not sure it is even still offered. I have made my last two payments by phone, both of which have been completely messed up by the service reps. One misentered my account number, and, although I received a confirmation number from the representative, the payment never went through and the money was not taken out of my account. When I called to make a payment the next month, I was told I owed two months of payments. I paid the amount and requested that the payment not be reported as late to credit agencies because the service rep entered an incorrect account and the bank never informed me of this error despite giving me a confirmation number for the payment. The bank refused to correct the credit reporting issue.
When I called to make my payment this month, the service rep told me I owed THREE months worth of payments. She was extremely rude. I was able to give her the date and amount of payment, which cleared my bank account. She could not find it online. After being placed on hold twice, probably so the service rep could locate someone who could actually read, I was told that the last service rep “misapplied the payment” and that is why it was showing up as overdue.
Again, I requested that this payment not be reported to credit agencies as three months late, as the bank has failed to correctly process these payments. Service rep customer service on the last call was extremely unprofessional and almost laughable. I feel like I have to talk to a supervisor every time I call now to make sure my payments are being applied and processed correctly. DO NOT ACCEPT AN AUTO LOAN FROM BBVA. Buy a different car or go to a different dealership. It’s not worth letting them destroy your credit!

Disclaimer: Star rating is inaccurate. Unfortunately, there is no option to give a negative star rating because otherwise I would rate this bank -5 stars. I am writing specifically about their overdraft fee practices. There is a fine line between unfair and abusive, and in this case their overdraft fees most certainly meet the definition of abusive. Here is what I experienced recently: Transactions: 4/17 - $12.76 Debit CheckCard Purchase at Pho So 1. 4/17 - $5.84 Debit CheckCard Purchase at DAISO. 4/18 - $15.51 Debit CheckCard Purchase on Amazon. 4/18 - $8.42 Debit CheckCard Purchase at McDonald's.
Posted Dates of Above Transactions: 4/19 - $5.84 Debit CheckCard Purchase at DAISO. NSF Fee Charge: YES. 4/19 - $12.76 Debit CheckCard Purchase at Pho So 1. NSF Fee Charge: YES. 4/19 - $15.51 Debit CheckCard Purchase on Amazon. NSF Fee Charge: YES. 4/20 - $8.42 Debit CheckCard Purchase at McDonald's. NSF Fee Charge: NO.
Referencing the above order of transactions, I called their customer service line and spoke with the supervisor who was incomprehensible and rude. He made some smart-ass comment to me about "how can a doctor cure a patient if the patient isn't willing to listen to the doctor?" Um, at no point in our conversation did he even bother to ask me what my issue that needed resolving was. So my response was, "how can a doctor cure a patient if he has no idea what the problem is because he hasn't listened to the patient?" BOOM!
Anyway, I asked why I was assessed NSF fees for debit transactions that I made on dates when I had sufficient available balance. Their response was that debit transactions in pending status post on a different date and your available balance on that posting date must be sufficient, otherwise you get assessed an NSF fee. Ok, totally ** policy but makes sense since that's what is provided on the written Terms and Agreement. Then I proceeded to ask, "great, then what was my available balance on 4/19?" He couldn't even tell me. My available balance was positive on this date by the way. ALSO, why the hell was I not charged an NSF fee for my McDonald's transaction then? As you can see, I made that debit card transaction on 4/18 and it cleared on 4/20. On 4/20 I did have a negative balance due to their abusive overdraft fees that very clearly arose out of maliciously reordering transactions. >_> Stay away from this bank.

I was told by customer service on a Saturday that I could call the local branch Monday morning to get the funds released so that I could complete travel. The local branch was called between 8am-10am with no answer so I was forced to call customer service again. The rep (Luciano) was so rude and unprofessional. He interrupted me at least a dozen times in the first 10 minutes. We were going in circles possibly because there was a significant language barrier. I finally asked to speak to a supervisor.
He refused and told me I was unreasonable so he would not transfer me. He said according to the BBB he needed to know why I wanted to speak to a supervisor... During this, he was laughing hysterically and mocking me. Mind you, I’m sitting alone in an airport with a 3-year-old and 1-year-old trying to get this resolved. I told him that I wanted to speak to a supervisor to file a complaint on him. He laughed and said, "Ok sure." I held for 41 minutes and received an incoming call from a “no caller ID #.” I clicked over to the same representative laughing and then he said “is your dumb ass still holding” and then he hung up. The first issue I had with Compass was when I set up a bill to pay using online bill pay and it didn't happen. I could see it scheduled on the website and when I called to ask why it did not occur I was transferred to several different people and none of them could figure out why it didn't work. After much prodding from me they finally agreed to send a letter to the business I tried to pay explaining that it was their failure, rather than mine. I thought it was odd since I have used bill pay with other banks and never had an experience like that, but I figured it was just a weird fluke.
The next month when I scheduled my payment to the same business (early, just in case) everything went as expected. I relaxed, thinking the issue had been resolved. The following month I let my guard down and when I scheduled the payment and just expected it to work. When the business contacted me to let me know my account was past due (again!) I told them that I had set it up to pay the same day I received it. Since they had already received a letter from the bank I think they actually believed me.
I logged in to my Compass checking account to verify, and sure enough the bill had not been paid. Again, I called to see why, and this time after being transferred several times the last person I talked to just said she didn't know and was there anything else she could help me with? I repeated that I wanted to know why the bill pay did not occur as scheduled and she repeated that she didn't know. I asked her if she could find out, and she said that it's hard to tell on things like that and I should just try it again. I told that since this is the second time this has happened to me while trying to pay the same business (yes, their info was entered correctly - which was proven by the fact that it worked one time) that I could no longer trusted their bill pay. She just said, "Oh, OK." She didn't even pretend to care a bit.
At this point I should mention that while on the phone with customer service people (no matter how they come across) I always remain calm and never raise my voice. In the past I worked in banking and later on did some phone customer service. I know it can feel like a pretty thankless job, especially when a customer is rude or abrasive, so I will never be that person. The surprising thing to me is that these people who are totally unprepared to do the job are left on phone lines where people actually need help.
Any way... Since the money to pay the bill was already in the account I decided to call the business and use my debit card to pay them. It didn't work. Looking back I can't believe I was actually surprised. I called to see why the card didn't work and it turns out that since I hadn't used it in the few months I had the account open they canceled it without notifying me. They offered to send out a new card that could arrive in 5-7 business days.
I suggested they expedite the card since the reason I needed it was that bill pay hadn't worked and I reminded her that I hadn't been notified that the card had been canceled. She agreed and then informed me that the PIN would take around 10 days to arrive. When I mentioned that the card wouldn't be very useful without the PIN she said she thought that maybe I could change it online, which seemed unlikely since I wouldn't have the original PIN. I decided to stop wasting my time with them. I went back to my old bank and have not had any problems at all - even when I try to pay that same business that has been so patient with my banking issues with Compass.

BBVA Compass blows. My roommate had an account with them and switched as soon as possible to Chase, because of nonsensical fees I think. They inconsistency charge 14 dollar service charges with no explanation what on Earth they are for, and they aren't on any recurring basis so they can't be for anything logical. They'll call your account a "Free" checking account but the reality is they're definitely stealing a minimum of $20 from you a month and there's nothing you can do about it.
My card has 4 unauthorized transactions over the weekend, somehow, even though I only go to less than 10 places and I never use ATMs that even have the possibility of being hacked/fake readers being overlaid on them. All of them show as POS charges but they definitely never happened, and I certainly had the card in my wallet, on my person, at all times. Only one of these charges posted, of course, because BBVA takes their sweet time approving debits just like all other banks. As soon as I reported a charge, my card got cancelled and I am allegedly going to be sent out a new one in 7-10 business days. Okay first of all that's a completely unacceptable time frame unless you live in a retirement home and don't need to actually go out and buy things. I called and asked what I can do to expedite this process. I was told the only way is to pay a $50 charge, deducted from your bank account, to get 2-3 business days shipping.
This bank has no regard whatsoever for its customers (It's a bank so big surprise). It's a shame because my local branch is right down the street and the service is typically great, even early on Saturday morning when people are getting there early because it's the only time they can. So now, as someone who has to somehow live without any money and would have to go out of my way to get cash directly from the bank, for at least 2 weeks - and probably not get my money back for 20 days if I do ever see it again anyway, I'm telling you - do not ever use this bank. Avoid BBVA Compass Bank like the plague. I opened a checking account with them, and requested a debit card. After two weeks, I talked to the account manager, about not receiving the card. She said I hadn't ordered a card. Sure. Then I discovered that I was given six temporary checks with misprinted account information on them. When I found the checks were misprinted, I visited the bank to get replacements, until my permanent checks arrived. They refused to issue me corrected temporary checks --- due to company policy against printing out temporary checks. Sure.
I discovered four NSF charges against my account, or $128. This was the result of a vendor error in charging my account, which was solved with the vendor. However, BBVA Compass refused to reverse the charges in full, telling me they only reverse charges on 1 transaction per year. Never mind this wasn't the result of my mistake. Worse, the bank suggested I get the vendor to pay me for the bank charges. Sure. When I pointed out the obvious, that the bank wasn't out any money, and charging gratuitous fees for something that cost them nothing to process, the account representative reacted, "No, we've lost $64." Sure. So, with gratuitous, advantage-taking fee gouging, and sloppy, dysfunctional, customer service, I would give this bank ZERO stars, and suggest finding a more customer-friendly lender than BBVA Compass Bank.

Expecting my pay to be in my account as it always is, I made transactions on the 15th which overdrew my account. BBVA sent e-mail confirmations that my account was NSF and there would be $.0.00 (zero) fees associated with this. They did not honor those messages and charged me $38 per transaction. This continued to send my account deeper into the negative and BBVA continued to apply NSF fees. Had they not withheld my pay and honored their statements to NOT charge NSF fees I would not have been overdrawn at all. BBVA refuses to acknowledge proof of payroll processing submitted by my employer and has refused to reverse the fees they caused and applied to my account.
If you have similar, or other complaints about BBVA I encourage you to contact the Federal Reserve, The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and BBB. File complaints with all of them and they will either resolve or simply keep track of the complaints before they charge the bank with deceitful and unethical practices. Use BBVA's legal name to file. I have had two separate incidences of unauthorized charges on my account which resulted in insufficient funds. Both times PayPal admitted that they were at fault and were experiencing some type of issue. It is utterly astounding to me that Compass would speak to me as if this were my doing, since I gave them my info, even though we are talking about PAYPAL, who only has permissions on this particular account to deposit. Further, insisting, after shuffling me around for too long, from department to department, that this was a courtesy, reversing NSF charges, even though I had not initiated them and had done NOTHING WRONG.
Today I started the conversation with asking if I should submit an ACH revocation, which was ignored. I was given the courtesy speech. Told I needed to speak to another department. Only after I got EXTREMELY firm that this department reversed it last time and hadn't iI begun the conversation by suggesting what she was telling me, without saying ACH REVOCATION.

BBVA blocked my account through Fraud department, has now taken me over 5 hours to get someone to resolve... still waiting! At 8pm last night (11/22/2017) I tried to pay for some grocery shopping, my card was declined. I received no notification from BBVA at all, despite there being more than enough cash in the account to cover the transaction. I tried the card again this morning at 7am to get Gas, still declined. I had to borrow someone else's car to get to work as I had no way of getting gas. I called customer Services at 7.30 to be told that the Fraud department was the only one who could lift the block and they weren't open until 8.
I called the FD at 8, sat on hold for 40 minutes, decided to call back. Called at 9 and again sat on hold for another 45 minutes. I called back to customer services who said they couldn't do anything and couldn't put me through directly to the FD, I would have to hold. I called FD back, after over an hour on hold I spoke to someone, verified all of the transactions and was told the block had been lifted. They said that they do send texts when a card is blocked, but because their department was closed when the block went on, the notification would not have been sent until the following day, seriously, what good is that.
An hour later, I tried to use my card... still blocked. Again, called customer services after being told by the FD that they are able to lift the block. I spoke to a Supervisor who said he couldn't (after waiting another 30 minutes to get through) and would have to speak to the FD, he couldn't call them direct despite working for the same company, he would call them and call me back... I am still waiting and still have no access to my Money in the bank, which means I am unable to buy food for lunch.

I was put through the third degree and they kept asking me question after question relating to everything in my credit file as far back at 1965.
I think this was just pure harassment from the personnel and I would not suggest anyone get a card from them especially if your address has changed. The rep even asked me to send a copy of my Driver’s License in the mail. Obviously because their customer service never responds and who has time to wait on the phone for over 45 minutes. Their unexpected fees are deceitful. They charged my savings account $15 for a service fee and $29 in excess transfers... All without me ever knowing they do this. Why don’t they alert us if we are going over our monthly limit which I never did? Then, charged jobs so had to mobile deposit a check, a corporate check and it took over a week to release. In the meantime, I could see they were including it in my account and letting me use my card. Called and emailed numerous times about the hold and release times. No response. Then it’s released and they charged me $340 in insufficient fees.
All the times I have gotten responses, they are exactly alike and generic. Garble about I should set an alert and how they hope they were helpful. What a joke! And no response about the $340 which makes my blood boil. Now I’m negative and still being charged fees. And have no money. Dealership used BBVA Compass for a lender when I bought a used car. BBVA Compass has been a nightmare. First, their online payment system (for car loans) is apparently from 1978. They ALWAYS show one amount due (or mysteriously overdue, with TONS added for late fees) on their website, then they will say a different amount when they call you on the phone. And yet, there is always a third (and different) amount when they send you a letter! I've asked them at least three times for a full printout of my payments since the loan began. They simply will NOT send that to me - nor can I access it online. I firmly believe (but cannot prove it) that they take some of my payments and do not apply them to my loan. By the way, if you try to call them... GOOD LUCK!
I have never ever been able to call and get a person on the phone about my automobile loan account! The only way you can talk to them is if you are late on a payment... Which WILL happen because your payments will mysteriously go out of your bank but "get lost" by them. When you do talk to them. They lie. It's a fact. They say one thing--agree to fix it in your account, then they simply do not. They agree to "note" it on your account. They do not... Because when you talk to them next time, there is NO record or notes of any kind on your account. I want to sell my car just to be rid of BBVA. I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM AGAIN, EVER. It took more than 15 working days and going to issue a replacement debit card. This bank as big as it is should be able to issue a replacement debit card from any of their branches. Smaller local banks do. I cannot even use my smartphone to withdraw money from any of their ATM machines like other banks do. Most of my online accounts got cancelled because they cannot deliver to their promises. A great total inconvenience to my daily schedule & transactions. Along the way during my inquiry of the E.T.A status of my replacement card, I asked what would it take in the future to expedite this kind of request to be processed faster, I was told that I have to pay $50.00 for the service. What a joke.
It's 2017 & free 2 day shipping is being used by a number of big companies and small businesses. I don't have a problem of paying a fee to get back on track to a reasonable extent but taking advantage of this kind of situation is just not good business practice. BBVA Compass corporate personnel or decision makers should learn from the small neighborhood banks about efficient & prompt replacement debit cards and smart phone-ATM transactions. This is my first time misplacing my debit card during my entire banking years and I know now that if it happens again in the future and I had to go thru this one more time, I would rather close all my accounts with them rather than getting stressed. And easily open accounts to those other banks that has better, logical, modern customer service.

Horrible customer service. I purchased a car in 2016 and received financing from BBVA Compass Bank. In July, 2016 I got divorced and legally changed my name. I called to find out what I needed to do and they told me to submit documents to them and once processed I would have to pay $12 (to change my name?!). I submitted name change documents to them multiple times over the next 7 months, each time they claimed they could not read it, or they needed something else.
In February, 2017 I decided to refinanced my vehicle with another bank, and figured they'd figure out the name change situation when they got the payoff (or not, because what did I care since I'd be leaving them). I had made a payment due to a car accident that had delayed my refinance. I also had moved at the end of January. I called BBVA in February, due to an overpayment on my account, and informed them I had changed my address. The gentleman I spoke with said he would update my information, and luckily the check had not gone out so it should updated that week and mail out the following week.
After a few weeks I realized I had not received the check and called them again. They said they had mailed out the check prior to my call updating my address, and to allow more time for receipt. I called again a few weeks later and was informed that in order to have the check reissued I had to submit an "indemnification" letter stating I didn't receive the first one, and to update my address. It took 10 business days (nearly 2 weeks) for me to get the letter, which I mailed back the day after I received it. I allowed 2 weeks for them to get it back, and then called to confirm. I was informed that it goes to a specific person and nothing had been noted yet but that they "probably" got it and to allow a few more days.
Life, of course, picked up and I got busy with work and essentially forgot about it for about a month. On June 5, 2017 I called BBVA at 10:58 am (MST) and spoke with Yomaris. She let me know that the check had been reissued to me in April, but was returned to them on May 23rd. No reason stated. I inquired why they didn't call me to verify my address, and she said that "sometimes" they do. Sometimes, but not this time. She informed me that she would submit a research ticket and call me back in 2-3 business days. On June 13th I called them as I had not received a call, and after explaining that I was checking on the status of a check that was returned and needing to be reissued, was asked AGAIN if I got the indemnification letter and sent it back. At this point I am fed up and asked to speak with a supervisor.
The gentleman (Jamie he said his name was) continued to ask me questions, and I stated I needed a supervisor and did not wish to speak with him any further. He put me on hold for about 10 minutes, and when he came back he said that the supervisor had explained that the check was reissued on June 8th, that there was not much more he could do. He said a "back office" person was handling my account. When I asked for their name, he said they do not speak with customers (which is ridiculous). I asked for names of people I had spoken with, which he all but refused to provide, and I said, "OR you can put me on with the supervisor since that is what I asked you to do." He said that there was no more the supervisor could do.
I am 100% dissatisfied with this bank. They clearly take notes during each call, or why would they ask so many questions, but they do not read them when customers call back. I understand it's only $452 but at this point it is the principle. They are not helpful, do not follow up when they say they are going to, and are really horrible people. There is a Compass Bank down the street from both my home, AND work and I would have been happy to go into the branch to resolve this had they been more communicative and responded when I asked. I asked for the gal's name that I sent the letter to, he said Shannon ** (I don't think that was it), and the manager/supervisor was Abel. I DO NOT recommend this bank to anyone and if you bank there, get out while you can.

In May 2017, I received a statement dated April 1, 2017, indicating that a $15 monthly service charge was removed from my account. This was the first letter regarding the account since 2011. After making a few phone calls I learned BBVA Compass changed the account, without notifying me, and has been taking $15 a month for years! I know they have taken at least $450, but they are refusing to provide a statement showing the full amount.
I have been trying for over a month to get a statement from BBVA Compass showing the total amount they took from my account, and to get them to return the money. After the first week a branch manager, Carlos **, said all he could do was return $45. What the hell is wrong with these people! During the second week I was directed to communicate with Renee ** at BBVA Compass regarding the issue. Wednesday, May 17, 2017, I sent her an email requesting an itemized list of fees taken from my account and a refund for that amount. I have not receive any communications from Renee **, other than answering my phone call to confirm she received my email request.
I have reported BBVA Compass to the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta for changing my account without notifying me, taking money from the account without my authorization, and for not providing records of the money they took from me. It has been a month since I learned BBVA changed my account and has been taking my money. This bank is terrible. Setting aside many, many of their terrible policies, the last straw started when they refused to accept a Cashier's check for a loan payoff because an employee of the bank that issued the check made a small notation on it. As if that wasn't enough, I then had the other bank wire the loan payment to BBVA Compass, who received the wire and confirmed to me over the phone that it had arrived. Then, without attempting to contact me, BBVA Compass returned the wire payment to my other bank, one day before the regularly scheduled payment was due and without giving me any notification even though I was in contact with their Loan Department several times after they received the wire.
The reason they gave for returning the wire was that the amount was less than the full payoff amount for the loan. This is no reason to return the wire transfer. This loan is a revolving loan, like a credit card, where you have a minimum payment each month, but you can pay off some or all of the principal at any time. There is no requirement that a prepayment to be for the full outstanding balance. So, after wasting my time when I brought them a Cashier's check, they not only cost me a $15 wire transfer fee, but now I have to make further arrangements to make the regularly scheduled payment on one day's notice.
In addition, prior to this, not only does Compass send out loan payment invoices about 7 days before the actual due date, but they also submitted false information to the credit reporting agencies for my wife and me. They apparently discovered the mistake and corrected the report for me, but failed to make correction on my wife's credit report. Of course, this was not discovered until an accurate credit report was needed, so Compass Bank caused a lot of inconvenience and hardship. They claimed they would not be able to do anything about their credit mistake for up to 10 business days! The next day I filed a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and magically they submitted a correction the next day (supposedly -- I still haven't paid the fee to pull another credit report to confirm). In short, they are absolutely terrible and I would strongly recommend against having any relationship with them.

After discovering that there had been fraudulent activity on my account, I immediately contacted the bank, who said I had to file a dispute claim and that they would send me the forms. They didn't. I contacted them multiple times via phone and their "secure messaging service" and each time the service person did not seem to understand what to do. I went to the bank branch, where I was told there was nothing they could do. Finally I received the forms, filled them in and returned them. Still nothing happened. Two months after the initial incident, the fraudulent charges are still on my account, accruing interest. Every other card I had fraudulent activity on, typically the card issues would contact me first, and upon reporting a problem, the charges were immediately frozen. With Compass I get the impression they really don't care. I canceled my card and will probably change my accounts to another bank as well.

I have an auto loan with BBVA Compass Bank and the only way to pay is by using their 1800-customer service call centers which are located in Puerto Rico, Columbia, and Texas. I found the call centers take calls for other companies as well. For the past 3 months I have been trying to pay the auto loan payments but each time the I call it seems the representative enters my information incorrectly. My bank is rejecting payments because the account numbers entered are not correct. At the same token they charge $15.00 for each terrible service. I've been trying to resolve the matter but its useless. Every rep I speak to gives the runaround and says a supervisor will call. Supervisors never call to resolve the matter or to give payment options.
I even had an instance where a payment was made and given a confirmation number which was lost and no correlation to payment. BBVA Compass Bank is reporting this to the credit bureaus and damaging my credit. I just recently found out my last payment for December 2016 was also rejected. They are clearly violating the Fair Credit Billing Act (1974) which specifies how creditors must respond to billing complaints from consumers; imposes requirements to ensure that creditors handle accounts fairly and promptly. Applies primarily to revolving and credit card accounts (for example, store card and bank card accounts). Amended the Truth in Lending Act. This bank is incompetent, corrupt and set up for your doom. Believe every review you see here. I have had nothing but negative experiences with this bank over the past year. My issues are not related to NSF's which I know is common. They have continuously locked me out of my account, both on-line and on the mobile app. They have locked me out of mobile deposits and limit the deposit amounts to $200/day - you think they'd want my money. In addition, I have submitted three (3) formal (over phone with a rep) requests to change my PIN. The ONLY method to update the PIN is via US Mail. I have yet to receive any forms via mail to change my PIN. Finally, I had a credit account for overdraft protection. I used it several times and paid the balance off each time. Without notice they shut down the credit line and charged me fees. I'm done with them.

I received an overdraft charge for $3! I got gas and I thought it cleared since it did not show the $1 hold as my other cards. So once I saw the gas charge go through and it overdrew my account by $3 I went to the bank immediately after work and deposited the money to make it positive and it was before 5 pm. I asked that lady would the fee be charged since I was making my account positive before they assessed the charge and she told me I would not be charged. Tuesday morning, BAM, there goes that $38 overdraft fee. Called customer service as soon as they opened and after being disconnected twice and 15 min later I finally got a rep. That rep was just as mean and rude. Then asked me which location did I make my deposit at and I told him. I advised him what the bank lady said and everything.
After he was very quiet and confirmed the location I went to, he said I would have to talk to the branch and immediately transferred me to that branch location. Well the branch was not open yet and had he not so rudely transferred me so quickly I would have told him that. So 25 min wasted and nothing resolved. Went back to the branch and the lying lady said she never told me it wouldn't be charged. I was shocked! So they wouldn't reverse it either. So I finally emailed their online customer service complaining about their horrible customer service and about wanted that $38 reversed and they ignored me. They never got back to me. This makes the 2nd time I've emailed them through their site and they just refused to respond. They will respond to basic questions because I have emailed them a few times but every time there is some error on the account or me asking about them reversing ODF then they want to ignore me.

The amount came out of my account and made it negative by $14 and hour later I put in $15 and my account was positive. The next day I was charged an overdraft fee and was told that there's nothing that they can do because they only remove "2 fees per year" in which once a fee is charged they charge more fees on top of that when the account is negative. I have never been late on any payments, always paid on time, always called to let them know any changes in my travels, to include home address and phone number updates. Now after 15 years BBVA Compass Bank has decided on their own not to re-issue my card because they have received information from TransUnion that my debt to credit ratio is too high? Mind you I only have one credit card theirs with a balance of 5,400 of the 19,000 available to me. Mind you I haven't had a car payment in over 14 years! My credit is Outstanding! With no late or a no payment history whatsoever in my life!
I called and explain this to them and even their own people on the phone just by viewing my information are puzzled? Now my account is under review? I was told that a letter was sent explaining their decision but they mailed it to the wrong address! Nice to know that someone or someone's are now knowing my personal information? I opened my account not too many months ago but long enough to have about 11 deposits from work put into my account with them. When I first opened my checking account online nowhere on their site did it say I was opening a Prepaid checking account nor did it inform me when I finished my application. When I received my debit card I had no problems at all. Then I get a notice maybe 2 months in about a security alert on my account. I called and spoke with one of their call center people who do not know a darn thing about anything and they told me my account would be fine they just needed to verify the charges that were being pulled out were from me. So they told me once they checked into it my account was fine so I said okay and then asked the guy if there was a fee for ordering a new card and he said no so I told him "Okay you can go ahead and order a new card because my card was cracked."
My new card comes in and then when I try and activate it it says to call them because I have a hold on my account. Mind you every time you call a person answers. They ask you for your card info then your name and last four of your ss then from there they transfer. If they are good at anything it's transferring you to someone else who has no clue what they're doing. I talk to whoever answers and explain to them that I cannot get any of my funds from my account and they transfer me to someone who can help again.
Long story short the calling and getting transferred never ends but they had my account on hold where I could not touch money that was in my account for 2 weeks and then when I called back for about the 10th time to see if it was fixed the girl leaves me on hold and comes back and says "Okay ma'am your account has been closed and funds in your account have been mailed out to you." WOW!!! "What an inconvenience" is what I told her. What BANK does that? Only them. Just an FYI they will forever tell you they are sending the issue to upper management and you should have your account fixed within a day or the next business day. Really it is supposed to be 3-5 business days.
Now I am late on my bills thanks to a bank I thought was a reliable bank, all because they wanted to verify my address and I sent the documentation and because they couldn't deal with it. I will never understand these how are you not able to verify an account quickly. Frost verified my driver's license by fax within 5 min and the girl sent my card and info - now that is customer service. It is not worth the time to opening an account and closed your account within 4 month. When trying to talk to a representative, NO ONE can give you a clear answer. Do not do business with them. Trust the reviews that talk about Nsf fees!! I opened my account in April, I balance my checkbook and keep it up to date. I had an issue with PayPal where I had made a deposit to PayPal and made a charge to a company online. Instead of taking it out of my PayPal balance, it charged it to my card and made it pending negative balance. So, I transferred the 20 dollars from PayPal to my bank and I was relieved it transferred before the charge posted. I checked my account to see a positive balance and ordered a pizza which would leave me a small available balance.
Then, the next morning, I see a Nsf fee. I spoke with customer service who had an explanation that wouldn't make any sense to anyone with at least a little bit of intelligence, but it was no use arguing with them. He explained that PayPal had a "charge" of .25 and when I said that they were "testing" the account and a corresponding credit of .16 and .09 came through, they said it didn't matter and they are seen as charges. They ended up crediting me 19 dollars (half the Nsf fee), but that will still leave a negative balance and another Nsf fee will be charged when it posts.
I've heard other people who kept their accounts in good standing have their account randomly closed and they were mailed a check with their balance. No matter how much you need or want a checking account, do not ever open an account here. I'm not sure on this point, but I had heard something about them not being "accredited" but I'm not sure what that means.

I opened this account 4 months ago to have a secondary account to manage expenses. Shortly after it was opened, I went away for the weekend and spent what little money was in the account but I did not overdraw the account. On Monday morning, my Hulu monthly subscription was deducted out of my account and was pending, so I ran up to the ATM right away and deposited $20 to cover it. On Tuesday morning, I saw they had charged me 3 NSF fees! I went down to the bank and spoke with the manager who kept saying they do "real time banking" and at the time the authorizations came through, my account was negative. It wasn't. You can clearly see how everything was deducted from my account on my statements. It was never once overdrawn until Hulu came out. But I made a deposit immediately. That doesn't count she told me because I don't have until the end of the business day.
If the money isn't in there the moment they deduct it, I get charged an NSF fee. It still didn't explain how they justified charging me the two other fees. She made absolutely no sense and we kept going in circles until she finally agreed to credit back the two NSF fees. A similar scenario happened again but they wouldn't reverse the fees. On another occasion, I tried to make a deposit through the ATM just before the deadline because I knew I had a transaction coming out in the morning. The ATM wouldn't accept the deposit... with no explanation. I went in the next morning to deposit it and of course they had already charged me another NSF fee (which after arguing, they again reversed).
Last week, I made an ATM deposit early in the morning. In the past, they have always credited $200 immediately. Now they didn't. I called the bank and they had no record of my deposit even though I had the receipt. She eventually said she would have the person who pulls the checks from the ATM bring mine to her so she could post it right away. She did keep her word. Now, I am trying to use the mobile app to deposit a check for the first time, and it says I'm not authorized to do so (even though I was before). I called customer service and they told me because I have had so many NSF fees (the limit is 2), they revoked that privilege. I am closing this account tomorrow. Ridiculous way to do business!

I opened an account with them. Little did I know the obnoxiously designed piece of crap website that awaited me. Of the three banks I do business with, their max password length is the shortest of the three, and woefully short of my standard length for high security passwords. Of the same three banks, the "character set" available for passwords is unquestionably the most restricted, with only a small selection of special characters, and excluding many of the more common ones.
BUT WAIT!!! THERE'S MORE!!! Apparently, recognizing their crappy password solution set is insufficient, instead of lengthening it and expanding the character set available, they decided to make the "security questions" that are supposed to be "last resort" and instead required one or more of them to simply LOG ON.
But WAIT, THERE'S MORE!!! As with the password, there's a length restriction on your answers... because an extra 50 bytes of character data spread across, what, 1,000,000 customers would be 50 whole **megabytes** of data!! GASP!!! The bank can't afford THAT!!! Hard disks are expensive!! Now, I don't HAVE standard answers to these questions. I have an atypical system for making up such answers, and somehow, while I have ZERO PROBLEMS with security questions that are FIVE YEARS OLD, I've failed repeatedly at managing to guess what these idiot things are, somehow. For the last 5 years I have been trying to get BBVA Compass bank to explain to me how they amortize a loan. Every month that we pay a different figure goes to principal and interest. One month only $80 will go to principal and then the next month $198 will go to principal. It is a fixed rate loan. The payment is made from an auto debit from a Compass account. It makes no sense. I have talked to everyone numerous times to explain this to me. They say they cannot put it online they do not have the IT department that can do that and I have to call them every month to get a statement to use as a receipt that we have made the payment and can see what is going to interest and what is going to principal. Otherwise, we get nothing but an end of the year statement to use for IRS. This has been going on for years. I think they are overcharging on our interest. And, refuse to put it online so we get a monthly accounting.

I recently opened an account with this bank and purchased a 13 month CD. I sent in my check to fund the CD, and kept waiting for the account to show my deposit. After about 2 weeks, I finally called to see if they had even received my check and was told the CD had been redeemed. I kept explaining that I did not redeem the CD. So the rep put me on hold and never came back. I really want to know what happened to my check and who redeemed it. No answers at all from them!! So I stopped payment on the check. They had my email, phone numbers, address... could have at least asked me if I had redeemed it or not. I have never had such bad, rude treatment from any bank before or either just plain incompetence on their part. I wish I had read all the bad reviews on this bank before dealing with them. I would never recommend this bank to anyone!!

My account was in the hold because I made a purchase of 4.18 and was charged 35.00 for bank overdraft. Several calls made to the bank. Do not want overdraft protection. They sent me a letter account my account -49.00. Went to the bank about 2 weeks later paid 60.00. They charged me 50.00 more dollars and stated my overdraft was not paid in a mannerly time. Who does that? That's a rip-off to the customers. I asked for a manager and emailed the bank and to this date I have not gotten a response. Worst banking experience I have encountered. Customers be aware. So thankful this was just a side bank.

Opted for Overdraft 3 days ago. A day or two later I made a purchase between $8-$9. I chose the credit option. The bank only AUTHORIZED $6.26 and I PAID the difference. Problem is I ONLY HAD $6.25, a penny shy of what they authorized. They should have PAID THE TOTAL AMOUNT or DECLINED THE WHOLE AMOUNT. They should have paid $6.25 what I had and I could have paid a penny more in cash. So they wanted charge me $38 because in their crooked and greedy eyes, they approved it. This is their way of getting over on the POOR & MIDDLE CLASS. I called them and they suggested I go add the penny cause every penny has to be counted for.

I talked with them twice over the phone, and twice in person. Once with a teller, and once with a manager. My account was supposed to zero out if there were no funds. We set it up this way, and had documentation. This is the 6th time they have done a NSF charge to my account. This is after I signed a physical piece of paper in front of the manager stating I wanted the account to zero out if there was not enough money in it to cover a bill. Today, again, they let the NSF fees happen. The manager said to call him if it happened again and he would make them go away.

After opening a business account at the bank. Two or more of our clients checks got return NSF for very small amounts. With $11,000.00 plus in the account the NSF were under $400.00, the bank decide to close our account. First the manager could not be found and second the bank corporate headquarters in Alabama, had no answers to why they were closing our accounts. I later found out that this bank along with other large institution are doing the same thing – closing business accounts. I called a friend at another bank and she explain to me that banks no longer want business customers because they were the one who helped caused the financial mess some years ago. I also found out the BBVA is part of a large Mexico, own bank that had help prop up the Cuban Government for years. It is also the bank behind the several South American countries.
Do not do business with them. The bank has several lawsuits pending. Please, never open a merchant account with them. They will also take that money. First Data, kick them to the curb and so Vantiv, will soon. If you are a consumer do business with an American own bank. BBVA took over Compass during the financial crisis. Bad move the FEDS.
