The idea that I would be able to further my education from home and that I could finish at my own speed appealed to me. So, I went with StraighterLine. I had already taken the course that I took through StraighterLine through a community college and I felt like it was just a waste of time to go through another community college when I felt like I knew most of what's being taught. On the other hand, at StraighterLine, I was able to finish the course faster at my own level of how much I already knew the subject. Since the student is not in a class, it's easy to just procrastinate. So, prioritizing is what I found to be the key in becoming a successful student at StraighterLine. Overall, this school is great. If I ever come across needing to do a course again or to repeat in a course, I would definitely go to them.

I needed one credit to graduate and I heard about StraighterLine from my student adviser. It was pre-approved by my school for my needed credit. Everything was well laid out and all the materials were relevant to the lab I was doing. All of the assignments were created in a timely manner, but my biggest concern was the amount of time considering that StraighterLine is a membership program and I wanted to minimize my cost while still getting the credit I needed.

In the end, the transcript was sent to my school in a timely manner and everything worked smoothly. I was lucky that my entire class was done online. I had the experience of completing a course through a self-study, self-paced program, which was the key to be successful with an online course like StraighterLine. If you are not able to self-regulate and self-monitor, then it can be difficult and daunting.

I was looking for a class which I could do online that wasn’t as expensive and StraighterLine popped up. When I called them and asked, they said that I could take courses in there. However, they were not upfront with me. They had told me that the courses would straight up transfer, but it turned out that they don't transfer to any other university. StraighterLine is a great place to go if you're looking for educational benefit. But, if you're trying to earn credits college-wise, don't go there.

StraighterLine will be able to help you. It is the best method to catch up on your credits if you're slow. In fact, I have recommended it to a couple of friends. I was trying to get my associate’s degree and I needed to catch up on credits myself. The fact that, with StraighterLine, I would have a proctor at the end was something that popped up to me. A lot of online classes don’t do that. They gave me pages from a book too. I liked the fact that they gave me eText so I could review everything I needed to for my test. Then one time, I was having a typical issue with my computer. It was acting up. A technician came and helped me out, and I was able to complete my class.

I like StraighterLine. It was so much helpful to improve my knowledge in easy way, especially when it was online. I had so much stress in my school taking some classes as an international student. I like that they are in partnership with my university, the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Also, they transfer the credit fast. I like its flexibility on when I can get the test, when can I study for the quizzes or for assignments. The teacher, all through the course, helped us study. If only they have more classes in Arabic language and also some business courses, or some courses with certificate especially in aviation and aviation safety, I would really need that. But I recommended StraighterLine to so many people. We have a group in Facebook and they kept asking how are the courses in StraighterLine. I just keep saying to them to study there, it's much better. My friends are taking classes this semester there because of me.

The slide shows have quizzes after then, you take the quizzes and think you know everything only to take the test and fail. This chemistry class is about to drown you. The e-text book is TRASH, I hope you're good at memorizing everything. I have put in 3 requests for help, 2 have been deleted, I just put in the third request. THERE IS NO TEACHER. The University of Western States accepts credits for classes from StraightLine. I had to take up biology, anatomy and physiology and StraightLine's completely online option was really good. It was very easy to sign up, take classes, and navigate through the system. I was, however, a little irritated once I finished a class. I couldn't immediately take the test without having to pay extra for that and a proctor. It was annoying that I had to wait a week to take the test, to pay more to take the test early. Also, the self-paced classes were a little tougher for me. I generally do better when there are deadlines and a structure to get it done, and I didn't have those. Nevertheless, some people really can do well without having that structure. Overall, it was a great place to get some prerequisites done.

I was interested in limiting how many classes I have to take during my senior year. It's pretty pricey at the university I go to if I want to do anything over the summer. My younger sister took courses for the same college we went to and she told me how StraighterLine worked. Also, StraighterLine is accredited with my school for the course that I took, so by taking Philosophy with them, I was able to have an easier time last semester. I was able to do it for 5% of the cost. However, for college students that are looking or weighing their options, promotions for a buy-one-class, get-one-free or a discounted membership for the first month would be attractive for them as it always comes down to price.

I'm taking two classes that are still offered at StraighterLine. I took a little longer than I anticipated but I was able to work at my own pace. The structure of the class is more concentrated on the six tests that were for the class that I took versus having homework every week and doing stuff that was not pertinent to what I actually needed to accomplish in learning. It was a class itself and not so much busy work. I had a bit of an issue understanding the transcript process and I got confused into getting into the final that is proctored, but when I called them a couple of times, their staff member was able to guide me through it. My wife who does academic advising and admissions lets people know about StraighterLine as an option.

StraighterLine is a really good website. It works with my schedule and my time with them is spent very well. I got into Microbiology and compared to other schools, I could ask as many questions to the professor if I didn't know what I was doing. Some professors in other colleges just go ahead and keep talking and don't specify things to students. I can also research if I don't know what I'm doing and they give me a little example on how to go about my experiment.

Although we don't have a face-to-face instructor on StraighterLine, there's a link where I can ask my questions and other students who have taken the course can answer me. When I needed soil for my experiment and I didn't know which one to get, I asked my question and other students came in and specified what it is I needed. The professor can also write me what I need which I think is cool. I can also work at my own pace and time and I don't have to study for a Microbiology test at a college ASAP. Even though there is a membership fee, I still have that time to study for my test and study more if I need to. It's also cheap and affordable.

I was attending the University of Louisiana Monroe in Northeast Louisiana. There were a few classes I needed and the only way to take them was through StraighterLine. I took two foreign languages- Spanish 1 and Spanish 2. I tried to do it at ULM, on campus, but I made a D and failed. I work full-time so I can't go in a classroom anymore. StraighterLine worked with my schedule. It was a lot less stressful than taking the regular class online or on campus. It was also way cheaper and I didn't have to pay out-of-pocket. However, all they have is Spanish 1 and 2, but maybe one day, they can gain more classes, like French.

All the people at StraighterLine that answer the phones are very nice and helpful. I'm fixing to graduate this December and those two classes that I took were the last that I needed. I probably wouldn’t be able to graduate if it wasn’t for StraighterLine. To succeed one has to study at least an hour a day. Read everything and don't rush and take your time there. The staff was amazing. Every time I would call and I have a question, everybody would be willing to help, and they were very helpful. All my questions would be answered, and they were able to do everything I needed. The fact that I was able to rely on the help they had on there helped me to become a successful student. They made it very easy for me, which was stress-free and gave me the options to just go ahead and pass my classes very easily with my tests and quizzes.

I wish that StraighterLine had more classes because I needed about two more classes that I couldn't take there due to the fact that they did not offer it. I applied to Western Governor’s University and they recommended that I take a couple of courses at StraighterLine. What appealed to me about them was the cost factor as it was super affordable. Another factor was that you could kind of go at your own pace. There was also a scholarship at my school if I took four classes and pass them at StraighterLine. So, I signed up with them. I was able to get a course requirement for the degree that I’m going to complete from WGU and then I got the transfer equivalencies from StraighterLine. I picked four basic classes to take that are pre-requisite courses.

At StraighterLine, a lot of the basic exams, apart from the final exam, were open book. So, I would look up the course name and then look up the Quizlets to see if there would be any basic phrases that were recommended to study. Then, I would do some flashcards really quick. After I did the flashcards that I found were useful, I would go into exam cold and answer what I could. I would also use the book and just kind of use the search function in the textbooks to find the answers that I couldn’t find. And then for the answers that even with the book reading I'd still be confused about, I would use an educated guess based off what I thought the correct answer would be. For the most part, the study material reflected the tests. And although the exams were pretty straightforward, there were some questions which the wording could’ve been slightly less confusing because I thought two answers would be applicable for them.

On the other hand, I had a proctor there who was flexible. I had an issue where I scheduled an exam and then opened up the wrong exam on my end. The proctor figured it out and switched things around on his end, so I was able to take the exam and there was no issue. That was nice and cool. I was also able to complete classes up to the final exam and some of them within a week which was nice. So, if you like to get college courses at a fraction of the cost just like a community college or that four-year degree from a normal college, you can do it with StraighterLine. You could just pay the monthly fee and never finish too.

One of my counselors at WGU suggested StraighterLine if I wanted to get done with a class within a certain timeframe. I looked into it and saw "end of enrollment" in those classes. I wanted Statistics 2, but there was an issue with if it was gonna transfer over. He was saying it was, but then he looked into it and found out that it wouldn't. The cost was appealing and way cheaper than others.

What I did not like was the proctor when it was time to take the proctor, it was really confusing. My proctor exam was supposed to start at 3:00, it didn't start till almost 4:00 because it was so much that I had to do, I had to practically go around the whole area. If they could let people know what to expect, it would probably be better. It's like you have so much anxiety to take the test and then you're having issues to even log onto to take the test. Other than that, the people there are very polite and kind. I knew what classes I needed to take and what my timeframe was. It was an excellent experience.

However, for the chemistry lab, the program that they use for evaluating the pictures can be wonky sometimes. So, if they would explain a little bit of some of the errors that people had for troubleshooting with that program, that would be nice, because I had some issues with that. Still, it was a good place to go. It was all online and you can pace yourself. If you wanna finish it in a month, don’t wait until three weeks or one week left. StraighterLine is a great program. Everything is easy to do and the work is not bad. Also, you save a lot of money going there versus going through a regular school, paying $1,700 per class when you can pay like $200, $300, $400 out of pocket. That is gonna help in the long run. The only thing I did not like was the testing. They ask so many things like having to be in the room alone. But other than that, it was pretty good.

I needed to take three math courses that my college was not offering and they gave me StraighterLine as an option. Their courses were right along with the courses I needed and I was able to match with the numbers. Then, once I got the approval from my school and since I had the right classes, I went ahead. Each class was a bit different but I especially enjoyed the calculus because it had videos to each lesson. It was really good and it sank well on me. I also took statistics and I had to use what I already knew to get it together.

Some of it went well and some were not quite on the mark but overall, I would do the same process if I had to do it again. The only thing though that did not match up was the proctor and the test. When I first took the test for calculus, the proctor did not let me use my notes but on the website, it says that I could use one page of notes. Nevertheless, I was able to finish three math college courses in the summer. I was really impressed by StraighterLine and I would tell a friend to go that route. I was also able to save money and time and to go at my own pace.

When I was looking for a online school that I could go to, other online schools were way too expensive. But StraighterLine was overall cheaper and they are credited for a lot of different schools so I felt comfortable enough taking the courses online there. I liked that the courses were at my own pace because I was so busy during the summer. To have to come to the computer at a specific time every day was like going to class. I might as well go to class. But if it’s on my own time, then I can go at my own pace.

A young lady walked me through step-by-step, made sure it was credited with my university, make sure my credits would be able to transfer and told me what I would need to do after. She gave me a walk down of what the process would be before and after I completed the course. The program was a lot better than being in a classroom. The material was easy. You could pause and take notes if you find yourself being distracted reading. With my course that I took, it had someone that was reading over the text, and then someone that gave their own definition of the text as well so you got the best of both worlds. It was good that I finished within a month.

The only difficulty I had was with ProctorU. Unfortunately, for me to take the course online, it had to be done with ProctorU. But I already recommended a lot of my friends who take a lot of the courses at StraighterLine. I told them it’s way better than doing it online at a university. It’s almost half the cost, they could do it at their own pace, and if they think they need more time, it’s just $100 a month.

I wanted to do the nursing pre-licensure and as I was going through their prerequisites, I clicked on the different programs and I saw StraighterLine on those prerequisites. StraighterLine is one of the more flexible options and more cost-effective. Every single one of the staff members was meaningful in my journey and they were excellent. I used my instructor for many courses that I took with StraighterLine and I had a positive experience. There was only one course I didn’t take with StraighterLine, but StraighterLine was my very first choice. Their customer service reps and student advisers were all on point and were all very cooperative.

When I first started with the first program I did with StraighterLine and I got a C on the first course, I called and spoke with them. The rep went through how they have their syllabus set up and the different things they would do to ensure that a student comes out with the best possible education. I said that I was gonna go again and she gave me a free pass where I could go back and retake that course, and I took it a little more seriously. For me, Anatomy and part of Physiology were really challenging, as well as Microbiology.

If you want to get something out of the program, then you have a choice. If you want it just fast and not really come out with too much content, then you should try somebody else. But content-wise, StraighterLine was on board. When I took the time to go in and do the work, I was going through the books. I got what I felt I needed to get out of the program so although it was challenging and it was in some instances a lot of information to retain, once I put the work into it, I came out the better for it.

Having gone through it, I am glad that they challenged me and my capability to really do it because I did not have a science background whatsoever. My background was in public service and public administration, so to come from a public administration background and try to do the science program, things that I have never done before, and still come out with a B, it speaks how good StraighterLine is. I still have two more courses to go with them and the only issue is the labs. It is so expensive to get the lab and I need the lab so it's holding back my thing after all the work I have done so far. I'm waiting until I get the lab kits and to reestablish my membership.

The content is overwhelming but it is really rewarding once you put the effort into it. Content should not be cheated. If you’re really serious about what you want to do and you want to go into your program without at least 75% of the knowledge of what your program will be about, especially for the pre-licensure, I definitely recommend StraighterLine. And for anybody going into any nursing program, I recommend StraighterLine because when they start the program, that’s when they would really see the benefits of putting in all that extra work and it’s gonna pay off.

The content was amazing. It was on point and it really spoke to the whole program or the whole course. There was no part of it that I had left out. Clearly, who designed the syllabus and the information to go into it, they got some really good staff on that and I would really like to acknowledge the people who put together the syllabus. They have some really good trainers there and they really put work into it. StraighterLine has changed my thinking regarding online training and online programs.

Not that I didn’t do it my full potential, they just didn’t like what I turned in even though they should have possibly given me just a lower grade. They give 100 or nothing. I would only get feedback as to what they expected on an assignment and then once I turn it in, I never knew how I did because they would never respond to that. They just responded with a grade. Still, when you get your credits within a week and you put in a couple hours each day of work, you can get it done quickly. In the end, StraighterLine helped me get those Humanities credits finished up at a quick pace.

I like that with StraighterLine, we had an entire month of not having to pay extra money to finish the class. We could do the class at our own pace. We can do it all in one week if we really need to get done in a fast enough time or we can pace ourselves out. But we tried not to cram it all because we could get behind and end up having to pay for the extra month. I’m just having a hard time getting the credits transferred but still, StraighterLine is definitely a lot cheaper than taking classes at the college I go to, so that was nice.

A friend of mine in the Marine Corps who went to nursing school needed to take a course. We’ve been out of school for 10 years so he and I both were gonna have to take a Finite Math course. His school recommended StraighterLine to him and then I asked him if he had to do anything. He said he went to StraighterLine but I have to make sure that my college will accept it. I did this a month ago and I ended up passing the class and not having to take a Finite Math class again. It turned out that it was one of my required degree classes. To be successful, I watched each of the modules. I tried to do the whole “Oh, I know this,” and then take the test but that was wrong. I got the credit for College Algebra so it cut off literally two semesters at school. I'm about to go back to do two more classes just to get them knocked out of the way. If I can keep knocking semesters by doing that and saving money, I will do it.

I wish StraighterLine would get more partner colleges because I had to jump through hoops when I transferred my credit. I'm going to a community college right now and they did not accept the credit from StraighterLine but they accepted my Ace transcript. So, I had the StraighterLine ones in the transcript over then I had to wait for it to get there and process it. I found out that they weren’t gonna take that, so I was still gonna have to do that. However, they said that they could take an Ace transcript.

I called Tenesia, a staff member and told her I needed her to verify it through the Ace transcript by phone as soon as possible. She did it right then and got me that. The Ace transcript was delivered immediately and I got to pick my classes. It was a week later, but still better late than never. Tenesia was very helpful and happy. She gave me a couple of opportunities to retake a test when it was allowed to be done to get a higher score. She was always a pleasure to work with and talk to. I told everybody I know about StraighterLine. Literally, I was looking at four years of school because of those two classes. Now I'm looking at less than 15 months.

My experience with this company has been very horrible due to the fact that you cannot even request a transcript straight from there to another school without it going through another reliable evaluating company. And they are using corrupted and inexperience proctoring company who is not trustworthy and gives wrong information which at the end affects the student tremendously.

I was clearly told by my Proctor that I could mumble my questions to myself as I'm taking the examination and at the end lied that he did not say that and eventually said the truth that yes he allowed me and proctor send email to StraighterLine and still holding that against me to retake the examination. This is all because another company have to reevaluate my transcript before they send it to my school. I don't think this is a fair situation for any student to go through. Will definitely not recommend this institution to any student as it is very corrupted with inexperienced workers who doesn't know what they are doing. I will be very pleased if Consumer Affairs will look into this institution and change your current status.

I took the English course and they provided me with feedback on my paper, but the feedback wasn't really helpful. Nonetheless, I finished my course within a week.

I didn't like how expensive their Spanish course is though. It's $300 and that's high. They also need to provide more information on how the financial aid can be used for their classes because I paid for mine out-of-pocket and after I finished the class, they sent me an email saying that the financial aid can be used to pay for the classes, and that was after the fact. Still, it helps to get on some classes faster, so, overall, it's a good program. You just have to make sure you ask a lot of questions. Also, you gotta be disciplined and focused.

Also, the program I was in did not want us utilizing StraighterLine for some reason but we did anyway and my experience was amazing. I needed to get the course done quickly, even though I didn’t get it done as quickly as I needed to. It got done within a shorter period in a 16-week course and that was helpful.

StraighterLine has a program where I could work on my own. They didn't have where you had to do classwork, it was all testing. So, I could do more of the work on my own quickly and able to get through it. The classes were straightforward because they didn't have to do a lot of extra work like I have to at Liberty. And it helped me get through two classes in four weeks, which was awesome. So, I literally did Accounting 1 and Accounting 2 together, which everybody told me I would do and I did, and I got past both of them and they transferred right next to Liberty. So, it made me graduate on time and I'm graduating in May which is a little early, so it helped a lot.

Their staff member was helpful. She was quick to make sure I got transferred. However, I had a lot of problems getting the Accounting 2 class transferred over for some reason. I needed it in before the end of summer and they took a bit longer. They got it in but it took me a lot of calling to say, "Hey, we gotta get this in." But that was the only thing that I did not like.

In StraighterLine, you just have to make sure you put the time in studying and doing the work, but you have that time set aside for the test when you are doing the monitor test because you can't really stop. I have stopped once because my daughter's crying. Thankfully, I had a nice person on there who understood and just let me go on. They were really nice about that sort of thing but make sure you're upfront. I told them upfront, "Can I take the test at nighttime, in the middle of the night because that's when I do my studying?" And they said, "Yeah, we can definitely schedule those, and we have somebody in there 24/7 so you could do the test." I was able to do my test at midnight, so that was very helpful because my children's sleeping. So, that was a huge incentive.

However, they need to check some of the tests on Accounting 2 because some of the wording was wrong. I suggest they have somebody proofread the tests. Nevertheless, I would tell others that it's a good school if you're okay with just taking tests and studying for them. It's quick, it's easy and you can get through classes fast.

I’ve been asked to do a three-credit English Composition course. I was looking online for any credits and figured out that a course in StraighterLine would match in my requirement so I went ahead and reached out to them. I wanted to do it much ahead of time but I was balancing out my graduate studies and the semester was on so I took a little bit of time than usual and tried to go with each topic during the summer break or during winter break. However, the way the assignments are graded can be very confusing for students and I wish there is a way I can filter that out because that’s what I exactly did.

I had written something completely original but for some reasons, it was showing that there was a lot of similarity so I had to redo it but there was no explanation in terms of what the similarity was and from where I'm getting the similarity, like maybe if it’s beyond the threshold that’s when you agree to redo that again. There were certain items which we obviously will find in the internet but I have to use it in my write up too so that got me confused twice but with three assignments. I read that again because I don't want a zero especially when I put all that effort so I went ahead and called the counselor.

I had the counselor named Sierra who was always available but all she could help me with was to erase the whole thing so that I could submit a new draft. I did that thrice and she helped me with that. She uploaded that and made sure I was good with it. It became a little time consuming for me but I managed to finish. Other than that, I did fairly well with the other assignments.

Unfortunately, Hunter College did not accept any credit for an English Composition course from StraighterLine because they aren't accredited so everything was gone to waste. I had the impression that any course I do on English Composition would be acceptable so I submitted my transcript, but I've been asked to do the course again from an accredited institution and that is what now I have to figure out. Nonetheless, I was satisfied with my experience with StraighterLine and I recommend it to somebody who is looking for something like this.

    Response from StraighterLine

    Srimayee,

This is a terrible outcome! We always advise students to contact their target institution prior to enrolling in a StraighterLine course to prevent any issues with credit transfer. We do guarantee transfer to over 100 institutions. Unfortunately, this is a widespread issue with transfer credits in the higher education landscape (and something we're fighting to improve daily).

I hope that while the credits don't transfer you find the exercise and skills directly applicable to your future studies, I imagine the next attempt at ENG101 will be that much easier.

Very best and thanks for sharing your experience, calling out this difficult issue in transfer credit that StraighterLine is actively addressing.

All the subjects were open and ready to go. I really liked that. You didn't have to complete one step in order to go on to the next chapter. I could literally do the classes any time I wanted to.

The only thing I didn’t like was the identity part for the final test. I understand that nobody wants cheaters but I was asked to show my surroundings and my keyboard. And if I didn't have my ID, I couldn't take the final test. The connection also took forever. I waited two hours for the connection to finally pull through and after that, I still wasn’t done proving myself of like showing my room. It was a really long process just for me to take my test. It didn’t have to be that extreme and it could have been a shorter process.

In going through StraighterLine, I realized that I can really self-teach myself anything if I put my mind to it. Even if I do have a class and I go to it but I'm not understanding the teacher, I can really just go through the book and the lessons and learn it by myself like I did with StraighterLine and I would get a good grade. When I decided to try and get my credentials in teaching, I looked into Western Governors University and the enrollment counselor, Carolyn, said that not all of my credits were transferred over and that I needed to take additional courses in order to be accepted. She also said I could do those courses at StraighterLine. The classes were done online and the only physical people that I interacted with were Carolyn and the guy that proctored the test.

My experience was okay, although, at the end test, I was a little surprised. It was proctored and they took over the computer and they watched. I had a hard time explaining my first task to the proctor. He was telling me that he needed to see my old room, where I'm at doing my test. I said that I was not on a laptop but on an actual monitored computer. He said that I needed to pick it up and move it around so he can see everything around me. I laughed at him and said, "What?" He said that he needed to see what was behind it too.

I said that I can't do that and that it was welded to the wall and I can't turn it a bit. I was not pulling my computer off and around so he can see 360 degrees. He said that I needed to get a mirror, so I had to find a cosmetic mirror. He asked me to move it around so he could see. Had I known, he has literally been staring at me the entire two hours. If I had known that it was going to be proctored that way, I probably would have dressed much more appropriately. I was at home and my kids were running around in their underwear. I was in mine too and if I get up, he was gonna see everything.

Nevertheless, I like that I could do the classes at my own pace. It was heavy on the reading, but I like that in the lab part of the book, their site could read it to me. The only problem is when I stop, it didn't pick up right where I left off, so I would have to go all the way back. Also, in the videos, the lectures are what is being said in the lecture portion, but it's very different than what is the picture is showing. It would show something from the book, but it would speak from something else. I felt like two separate issues that you can put together, but it didn't always go together. It didn't reference what was being shown on the slide. Still, StraighterLine worked fine for me and I have recommended other people to use it. It was fast and friendly and other people can utilize it. I recommend them.

    Erica,

Sorry for the surprise with proctoring, we do try to prepare students for that common online higher education requirement and document "what to expect" here on our site: https://www.straighterline.com/help-center/proctoring/

Thanks very much for taking StraighterLine courses and congratulations on earning low-cost credits on and continuing onto WGU (where proctoring is also required)!

I was a student at Strayer University and the people there suggested StraighterLine, which is a cheaper alternative to the classes that I was taking. I started my degree in 2007, but then I ran out of financial aid and was at the point where I was paying for my classes out of my pocket. It’s 2018 now, and I just finished in June. I paid StraighterLine $99 a month and the class was $79 and one was $49. Two of them were classes that I needed and one of them was one of the electives. The classes that I took with StraighterLine cost $1600 with Strayer.

Going with StraighterLine, I did what I needed to do. The only thing that I personally didn’t like was the proctor thing itself. Somebody professional should be a proctor. I was at the library when I did my proctoring and then it took StraighterLine a little while to get everything. I gotta show them my ID and the whole little process took 45 minutes. I had to go and be with my daughter and I was almost late in getting her. It could have caused me a problem if I hadn’t got my daughter on time. I should’ve planned a little better 'cause with tests, it's gonna take two hours. But other than that, the whole process was good. We all wanna save money and we got a tuition reimbursement, which was a good thing. I will always recommend StraighterLine to others.

StraighterLine is a great way to knock out some classes during the summer and the cost isn’t bad. It helps a lot to further people's education and it's easy to get started. Being more organized and doing time management can help a student become successful at StraighterLine.

I wasn't able to get in touch and couldn't get connected with the proctor. I was a nervous wreck and everything I studied for was off my head. I spoke to an amazing young lady named Ciara and she was very helpful. She calmed me down and took care of everything. She was able to get through to the proctor and told me they would be calling me shortly. The proctor did call me and Ciara called me back to make sure that everything was okay so I really appreciated that.

However, I found that when I would select an answer, that answer became something else when I've submitted it. I was a bit confused about that first test that I had taken. It happened again four times so I called in about that as well. The young lady reset the test and I was able to take it again. Other than that, everything was fine. StraighterLine was wonderful. Updated review: Aug. 29, 2018

After I wrote this review, I was contacted by someone from Straighterline named Joe. Joe fast tracked the grading on my rough paper, had someone from the grading department reach out to me and offer direct feedback and allowed me to submit my final for the same grade I had received on my rough. I was able to send my transcripts over to WGU that day but was later told that I would not meet the deadline for my desired start date. Joe was in contact with me throughout this whole process and I had told him that, unfortunately, I was not going to be able to start when I had wanted to. He offered to reach out to WGU for me and, later that day I got an email that I would be admitted for the term I wanted.

Now, with that being said, I’m still not sold on the program. Is it the most affordable solution if the college you choose partners with them? Absolutely but, it’s not for everyone. If you are not at least moderately good at teaching yourself and being 100% on your own, I don’t think this would be a good option for you. You feel and are very alone throughout the entire process and the people answering the phones and chat messages are not specialized in any particular subject. What Joe did to help me was great and I really do appreciate it and he really stepped up and made an impression but, I feel like this was a special circumstance and I am still really bothered by the way everyone else I had spoken with treated me and treated my situation. I do wish there were more people working there who could help students out like Joe was able to help me. Just be aware that, while it is cost effective and a great deal, you get what you pay for – if you’re not comfortable with learning on your own (entirely on your own), please do the trial they offer before you commit.

    Original Review: Aug. 8, 2018

I want to attend WGU but I have no previous college history. They suggested that I enroll in two courses from StraighterLine (I had to get credits in two classes before I would be accepted). I took US History 1 and English Composition 1. US History was a joke and required you to read hundreds of textbook pages and then take tests. Because you're not allowed to interact with anyone else and because the "tutoring" function is laughable, I just had to power through it. The test questions made absolutely no sense and, when I opened a ticket asking about the questions, I was told I could flag the ones I had issues with and call in. I flagged multiple questions all throughout the course - some of the questions were incomplete sentences that made no sense at all.

When I called in about the flags, I was basically told I was wrong, I should have known because I was supposed to read the textbook and that was that. The study guides for the class had absolutely nothing to do with any of the tests, including the final. This was more of a refresher class for me, I took US History in High School and I live in America, a lot of it is common knowledge and I still barely passed the class with a 76%. I had over 2,000 flashcards that I knew backwards and forwards and still did poorly on all the tests. Apparently, their tests are randomly generated and can pull from any part of the book, which is why some of the questions didn't even make sense.

I am currently enrolled in and trying to finish English Comp 1. It took me a week to get through it and I have a 97% in the class right now. I have submitted my rough draft final and I'm waiting on them to grade it. I had to resubmit it because the grader that previously looked over my paper said it was a compare/contrast essay and not an argumentative essay. I made two comparisons throughout a 1200-word essay and argued one singular stance on the subject so, whoever is grading these papers is obviously not qualified to grade them. I resubmitted my rough for grading after removing two sentences and I'm waiting on it to be graded so I can submit my final draft to get credit for the class.

I'm trying to complete this by Friday (it's Wednesday and I submitted my first rough on Sunday) so I can get enrolled in WGU for next month and not have to wait an additional month. I asked if there was a way to fast track the grading and was told there is not and I just have to wait the standard 3-5 business days for someone to look at my paper. When I asked if I would be billed if I was still waiting after this week (even though all of my work would be turned in by then) I was told yes, I would be. The "advisor" told me my timing is not her problem and I should have submitted the correct paper to begin with. I'm furious. I had an English professor at Texas A&M (an old HS friend) look over it and she disagreed 100% with the "grader" that said it needed to be changed.

They do not care that you're spending your hard-earned money with them and trying to better yourself. Their course material makes no sense and their tests are poorly generated. This was the worst experience and I'm just glad that I only had to take the two courses. All in all, I've paid $285 which includes two months of their "membership" (membership to what exactly?) and the classes ($79 for English and $59 for US History but I had a $50 coupon from WGU). Their customer service is the absolute worst and you can tell that no one answering the phones, chats or emails are educated in the fields they're "advising" on.

Unless you're completely desperate, I wouldn't give them any money. Please be aware that their tutoring is not real tutoring, if you do not think you can pass the class 100% on your own, don't waste your money. Take insignificant classes that you already know a lot about so you aren't compromising your education by taking the course via StraighterLine. I can't believe colleges are partnering with them, they're terribly unprofessional and they don't care about the students enrolled.

Moreover, I could take the test at any time of the day. Managing your time is the key to succeeding. The school that I first applied to didn't accept me. I was given the option to retake the ACT to a course called the ACCUPLACER and then my last option was StraighterLine. I’ve read reviews saying how easy and time consuming StraighterLine was. Still, I decided to pick the course that I wanted to do. Ms. Irene, a staff member, was very nice and helpful. I was doing the assignments every single day and it took me four weeks to complete my course. We opened our assignments and we read everything thoroughly. If people are gonna do the English course, they should make sure they're strong in English and have somebody to proofread your paper. If you wanna do StraighterLine, go for it. It is an easy course if you sit down and read the directions because they walk you through on exactly what to do.
