Of course, like everyone else, I am more in debt through student loans. It has been a headache trying to get them to get my transcripts after a year. Also, they blame me for not continuing to complain to them. The whole year, I had been contacting people checking on my transcripts and private loan. I do not suggest attending DeVry to anyone. The only way you can get someone's attention is by going to the campus which is an hour drive for me. This is hard to do considering I already work three jobs. That is why I wanted to take online classes. If I had gotten that private student loan, my credit would not be bad and I would not have to currently work three jobs.

Mid-January, I received a bill for $3,110 from DeVry for the 2008 fall semester. I was in shock! I had not even signed up for classes yet, and I was already receiving a large incorrect bill. Of course, I had to waste my time getting the mistake corrected. They signed me up for courses without my knowledge. I later met with the financial aid rep to discuss FA, and she told me I would have to get a student loan or pay cash. I was very frustrated because my husband and I are in the process of buying our first home so we cannot take out any loans or pay a large amount of cash in the beginning of the month.

I feel that DeVry is unfair to veterans since they will not accept payments at the end of the month when the student is paid from the VA and that I was misled. I feel that due to this lack of information being given to the student in the beginning of the application process and every one that was involved wasted their time. Now, I am on to the next battle getting my refund of $100. I am uncertain as to why the original application fee was $50 and the second time it was $100. I even complained to the director and no one cares!!!

After I signed on to the program, I discovered that I will have to obtain the financial aid myself, and despite several calls to the school for assistance in completing the forms, I got no assistance. I also discovered that they offer no facility to do the program. You have to spend a lot of your time downloading materials from all kinds of crazy websites. When I asked for the books they promised me, they said none was forthcoming and I had to buy them out of pocket. So, I went to Barnes and Nobles since some of the sites I could not access to do the English part of the course. When my books arrived and I tried to log on, I could not gain access. I then informed one of the tutors that it was not working out for me and expressed my desire to abandon the venture. She told me to go ahead and sent me a letter accepting my withdrawal.

All of the frustrations reported on this page were experienced by me. The next thing I got was a letter in the mail for $2,571.00. I have been sent to all the collection agencies for receiving nothing of value. No software, no book, no grade, no report, not even a floppy disk. These people are mean and greedy. It's all about money. With that institution, I am finished.

No one took advantage of me, because I always research every school before I attend it. That's many of you guys fault. I don't listen to what any adviser or sales person tells me. I find out everything for myself. Before I even attended, I contacted hospitals in my area asking if they hired Devry grads and they said yes as long as they were certified. And then I researched to see if Devry's program was accredited by Ahima which it is. So don't be mad because you allowed someone to take control of your life instead of you controlling your own. Ignorance is not bliss.

But much to my dismay I had to use C++ for Dummies borrowed from a friend (40 bucks if I had bought it), advice from a friend (also free) and when I ask for help online I get web addresses (also free). I followed their objectives. I asked as many questions and even demanded they answer in some way to provide the necessary knowledge to complete the homework. Essentially I am going to fail my first course ever in my life (bachelor's degree from Purdue University while working an average of 3 jobs so do not tell me about workload!) and scared to death of what I have done to my family's future. And I also had the wonderful "you qualify for grants and then sorry you do not qualify" after I was enrolled.

Being disgusted with the school at this point I called to withdraw from my current class. I was told that this would take several days and that the withdraw would show on the day that I called. Not true, they didn't withdraw me until two weeks later when I told them that I would keep calling every 5 minutes until it was done. This school cost me $750 out of my pocket (have to pay back the tax payers). I could have saved 25% of that if they had withdrawn me when I asked. This school does not return e-mails or phone calls.

I lost a year of my life 5000.00 and a transcript that will not transfer to anywhere that matters

Devry received some $4100. in student loans in my name and after I was well into my classes, they informed me that I would not be eligible for enough student loan money to go to their school full time unless I wanted to pay $2200. per semester out of my own pocket. $4100. at Devry was only enough to take one course each 8 week semester which is half-time, instead of full time. Not only that, but after finishing those 2 courses I still owed over $800. more for this semester.

It does not take a math genius to realize that at this rate it was going to take me 7-10 years to graduate from Devry at a cost of $15000. per year! I would graduate owing way more than they quoted me originally and it would take 2 to 3 times longer to finish as well. In contrast, this summer I took equivalent courses at the community colleges here in San Diego which allowed me to take 4 courses in an 8 week period, completing 12 credits towards my degree and the only thing it cost me was a $13. registration fee and my books, etc. The tuition was free as I qualified for a governor's waiver although even if you don't qualify for this waiver, it is only $20. per credit to take courses at San Diego City College and these credits are fully transferable to the UC or the CSU systems.

I was originally scheduled to complete 2 more courses at Devry starting in the Fall, (which is actually the second half of Devry's Summer semester), September 1, 2008 so I contacted them today, August 14, 2008 and they told me that it was too late to drop the courses although they don't start till 9/1/2008. So Devry is telling me that although I am not going to attend classes on September 1, 2008, that the $5100. that was provided to me in student loans will not be refunded to either myself or the loan company.

In addition, Devry seems to be having accounting and money problems as they have recently delayed the disbursement of student loan monies by 3 weeks, stating that they are having trouble keeping up with all of the student finances and will not be releasing student loan money until the end of August rather than the beginning which is the normal schedule for student loan disbursement.

I now owe almost $10,000. in student loans for completing 3 classes at Devry University although over $5000. of this $10,000. I owe was for classes I am not going to take at Devry. I feel 2 weeks notice before the course starts is plenty of time to be able to cancel the course. Devry explains that September 1, is the beginning of the second half of their summer semester, (what they call summer semester B), and they say that even though my class hasn't started yet, I had to cancel it at tne beginning of Summer semester A, back in July. So they refuse to turn the latest finance money back over to the loan company or to me. This of course means that I will have to pay this entire $10,000. in student loans as student loans must be repaid.

Despite the fact that I only completed 3 courses at Devry, (2 of which I cannot even apply towards my degree, something that was not disclosed to me by Devry until after I had completed the first 2 courses). So really I am paying $10,000. for a single Algebra 114 Class that was worth 4 credits! A mighty expensive and painful lesson.

Meanwhile, I am continuing school at San Diego City College and they are much more ethical about everything but it is ironic that I have to pay all of my other school expenses out of my own pocket while Devry got over $5000. for a semester in which I did not attend a single class. I do not know if I can pursue this in small claims court but possibly you could advise me how to proceed to try and recover that $5000.? Thanks for any help and time.

I went and spoke with the Dean of Business Mr. Mylon and he informed me that the Criminal Justice program that they offer would not be suitable for me. I told him I no longer would like to continue my classes and I am going to switch to a school that would offer me the program that I want. He said it was to late to drop my classes and if I didn't go financial aid would return my package.

I listened to him and never dropped my classes. I enrolled with Berkeley University and started taking my classes there. While attending Berkeley I received a letter from DeVry stating that I was on Academic Probation for failure to drop classes that I received an F in. I ran into some issues while attending Berkeley and withdrew from my classes.

Shortly after I withdrew from Berkeley I received my returned application from FAFSA to change my school code stating that there was nothing on file. DeVry sent me a bill in the mail for $130.00 because they said my financial aid was sent through and the balance is what remains. I am trying to enroll in Kaplan University as we speak and I am unable to do so because my financial aid packet still goes to DeVry University even though I no longer attend there. I have been trying to contact the financial aid dept. and they direct me to the registrar dept. When I contact them they reroute me to the financial aid dept. I am just getting a run around from the University.

What about the guy with the so called grants, but they were really loans. How do take out student loans with out knowing it. Even for Stafford loans, you have to sign MPNs and find a lender, you don't even make any sense. I started going to Devry last seesion. I have attended online schools before. Everything is the same. If it is too confusing for you, then you don't go to an online school.

I think that the problem here is that people think getting an online degree is so easy. They come in and say that the instructor didn't show up, or they fail you on pre req classes! Get a life!! I am not sure if all these people were taking online courses through their campus. Another one I liked is the guy who said 100% of his school is paid for. I am in the military, recieve pell grants, MGIB, and still end up having to pay for my books. Nothing is free, ever!!

It seems that the only people who complain is the people who don't know what they are talking about, or they aren't happy. So far, I am very saitified with my schooling with DEVRY ONLINE. In fact one of my instructors is DR. L. so I would definitely say that she is qualified to teach my pre req class!

I have been pursuing for nearly 1.5 years. I felt robbed since I paid for a service that I did not receive. Then I was getting ready to sign up for the summer classes, and the center made a mistake and said the class I needed will be offered next quarter and wanted me to sign up for an elective at the Center for this quarter. The electives were totally worthless since I had taken most of these classes or had waived out. They just wanted me in class for $$.

The quarter before, they convinced me to start even though I was several hours late to the first class. The professor would try to accomodate me. The professor did not help me, but the school was able to nail me for the first week's tuition, so I ended up taking the course. I passed, but I was disappointed. The academic advisors do not know what classes I needed. I even emailed them the program I needed, and the classes they offered did not match. It is a complete waste of time.

$$ for the tuition paid, but no insruction received. The school indicates that on-line instructor interaction is the key to the on-line environment. Classes that are not transferered to other graduate programs. Tuition for worthless classes.

Unfortunately, my adviser may not have realized or noticed that following her advice would revoke my financial aid, since the minimal number of COMPLETE credit hours would not be satisfied. My $10,000 in student loans was revoked and I was slapped with a bill for over $8000. Over several months of correspondence, no one at DeVry would/could offer a solution. When I called the academic group, they referred me to the financial group. When I explained my situation to the financial group, I was referred back to the academic group.

DeVry is a business. It's academic and financial services boil down to that, especially on the academic side. Over my 3.5 year stint at DeVry, I had 3-4 student 'advisers.' I was obvious their goal was to keep me coming back for classes. Some might've had a grasp on the degree offerings and challenges student's face but the focus was on signing you up for classes not supporting you with information and direction to get through them.

My credit reports reflects a significant charge-off for the remaining balance. This makes me unable to get another loan to pay this off. Also, it affects my purchasing power and ability to continue to afford to continue my education.

To add insult to injury, they used my social security number as an account number, and turned that over to only the gawds know who at some podunk collections company, so now I have had to put watches on my accounts and with the credit bureaus. That may seem reactionary, but we all know what scum collection agencies hire and use, and I'm not comfortable just hoping for the best.

This inaccurate report has exposed my personal information to disreputable people, damaged my credit score, and cause me a great deal of pain to unravel. Imagine trying to find a five year old receipt - which I'm sure is what they've counted on. Most people will be forced to just pay the bill, since they won't be able to prove they paid it at this late date.

After DeVry cleaned house as the term is often expressed by numerous staff, and students, the University had hired some new Deans, Professors and administrative employees because of the financial problems they were encountering resulting from the high student drop out rate. They replaced several highly regarded Professors with lower paid instructors who are not qualified to teach certain core courses necessary for a student to productively progress in their course. The important issues regarding having a proficient staff is that it is imperative for students to gain the knowledge of these core courses in eight weeks as compared to a State University of twelve weeks.

There was an enormous amount of red tape before I was allowed to even make an appointment to talk to a Dean or administrator about the problems while the financial department is still charging for classes not worth the high tuition for the unqualified instructors.

I have been waiting for almost 1 year for them to resolve the mistakes made on my grants and loans they had taken since I was left their school because of an incident with a student threatening me on the public discussion site. My Professor did not intervene nor did the administration and my entire class saw the threats made because this student did not want to participate in a course required group project. I didnt feel safe on their campus after the threats and my car was damaged on their property. I spoke with several people in admissions, student services, Deans, and the President of DeVry of Orlando. All I received in return were empty promises and a loan I cannot re-pay for worthless classes. They apparently were more concerned of their revenues than rectifying the problems of school safety concerns on their property or addressing an unqualified Professor who labeling his students as guinea pigs in an email he had sent me.

A students main concern should be on their education not spending countless wasted hours trying to make appointments with administrative staff to resolve problems that needed to be immediately addressed before another tragic school incident occurs. Some concerned Professors were telling students it would be good to check out State Funded Universities because they were also disturbed about the complaints they were hearing from other students.

Youd be wise to check out a State University like UCF, FSU, etc. or another private University than enroll at DeVry of Orlando. As a single, 46 year old mother raising two teenagers I am now constantly billed thousands of dollars I have no way of repaying or be able to continue my education since DeVry has not resolved nor corrected the problems or my financial paperwork as promised since October 2007. DeVry of Orlando, FL. has taken away my hopes of ever attaining my college degree because they are a For Profit Business? and not concerned about the safety of all students on their campus or quality of education they promise prospective students upon enrollment.

DeVry University adds to the economic problems of the Orlando area especially when students are unable to re-pay their loans for a useless education. They are also contributing themselves as an unsafe campus since they didnt intervene nor follow strict policies protecting all students on their property even after all the recent University tragedies on the news. There seems to be a lack of concern by administrators for communicating with dedicated students to resolve important issues so a student can productively continue their education in a safe environment.

8/152007 (Approx) I completed enrollment with Devry/Charlotte(could not complete tour of building because my admissions advisor had a dentist appointment at 11:30 AM which is why I most likely didnt meet with the Dean).

8/20/2007 Emailed financial aid to verify that I would not have difficulties with the transfer from ITT to Devry(received phone call stating that everything looked good and that I should not have no financial aid issues).

9/1/2007 start of the summer part B semester (classes were picked by academic advisor and I signed papers).

10/1/2007 after researching the problem I discovered that I had two D numbers I notified the registrar at Charlotte and was rudely informed that I was impossible and that I did not. Also during the first week of October I had done some research by speaking with campuses in Raleigh N.C. and Seattle WA., Where I found the origin of the original D Number. (Seattle Admissions Advisor) During this time I was informed that Charlotte campus did not have a financial advisor during this time I was primarily dealing with Martha because the registrar basically acted like she did not have the time to deal with my problem and had a nasty attitude every time I spoke to her.

10/21/2007(approx) request specific info for classes needed for my degree program. Apparently I was to have a meeting with the Dean concerning my class schedule which I never had or knew that I needed to.

11/1/2007 not allowed to register for winter classes due to the two D number issue and no financial aid advisor at the campus level. Learn my account is placed on hold and not allowed to transfer college transcripts to an State of New York College because I had an outstanding account balance.

11/15/2007 (approx) Spoken with the Dean about my situation, She sais that she did not know of my situation and that she would correct the issue.

11/26/07 started to have conversations about the BTSM degree program. I Felt I was somewhat mislead about the classes that I had take or as the Dean stated that transferring in credits and the BSTM program is difficult to explain and that I should have spoken to her about my class schedule, and there is no one in the office who can explain what I needed to know but her. This has been ongoing with the exchange of many emails and at least two telephone calls and still do not have a clear ideal of what is needed to graduate.

12/13/2007 Informed that the merging of the two D numbers was now complete and that I now could register for January session B classes. Also informed that financial aid would not be able to complete processing summer part B until I register for winter classes. When speaking to financial aid personnel for online students I was informed that one possibility was that I needed to transfer funds from one semester to clear up the last semester.

12/27/2007 Find out that my worst fear is true. Financial aide did not go thru as planned for the part B of summer, so now I have a $2500 out of pocket fee Somehow I believe this was discovered while finally processing my paperwork months too late and this is the reason why I was rushed into enrollment for the January classes. (Why do I always find out all the details thru Devry online and not thru the Charlotte campus?).

12/28/2007 Sent email to the Dean that I was displeased and I would not attend Devry and to unregister me from all classes.

1/4/2008 called Devry online and unregistered for classes which still have not been completed at this time.

Out of all of this I only asked for one item, to reimburse me for the class I had taken and was not needed. During all of this mess I was given course CIS206 which is a class that I had no need of taking. A 4 credit class at almost 500 dollars a credit hour that is an 2000 mistake.(cis206 IS NOT ON THE COURSES I NEED TO GRADUATE LIST)I was told that she(the Dean) would be able to apply the credits but I should only be taking upper level classes.

This could have been Acceptable but being CIS206 is a intro to operating system class and I have an associate's degree in Computer Networking Systems this literally is the first class I had to take at ITT Tech. This is the main reasons I feel that I should not have to pay for this class.

The last week of the class I received a call from financial services, and they told me that in order to sign up for my classes in the next term I would have to pay my outstanding bill. When I asked them why I had a bill because they told me I had grants they said, "Oh that was our fault--it wasnt grants, they were loans; we are sorry about that, but now you owe us money." I tried talking to people about what happened, and they said it was a mistake that the grants they were looking at were actually loans. Now I am stuck with a bill and have been sent to collections because I have no money--like I told them in the beginning. I have to make payments; the bill is around $2700. They lied to me and are now affecting my credit.

The recruiters that I talked to in the real world informed me that the classes I took probably prepared me for the basic basics that a home user can pick up by reading a book. In one class, ASP.net, the instructor was so bad that to prevent the entire class from flunking, he gave us an assignment to go shopping for jewelry.

I'm out about 17500 in tuition. I pay 123 a month for a wated career change by a school that promises everything, but doesn;t deliver. I saw a 96% placement rate, not for their online students, the placement office nver came through.

I have a job that pays less with a degree and a bunch of loan associations calling for their money, when I can't make enough money to pay my monthly living bills.

I am currently behind in my bills, and some have been paid late.

They informed me that everything was taken care of and that the financial Aid was processed.I even received a Cal grant of 8,000.00 dollars wich they have a copy of. Two weeks prior to the trimester ending they pull me out of class to inform me that their was a discrepancy in my 2004-05 taxes. My mother had claimed me for one of the years i was not living with her and i had done my taxes individually because i was working and not living with her. They informed me that i needed to get a letter from my accountant amending the taxes. I requested a letter from my accountant.

One week after classes were over i received the letter from my accountant amending the taxes and when i took it back to DeVry the staff in the financial Aid office said it was too late to process the papers and that it was not going to cover my class fees. They never informed me of needing the paper before the trimester ended.

Now they are telling me that i have to pay $6,931.19 for the classes. They are pushing me to pay them a monthly payment of $565.00 per month. wich i cannot pay i dont agree on paying for this because the delay was on their behalf.

Due to the issues with my financial aid, I was unable to receive my books on time, which resulted in my decision to drop one of my two classes, as I would not have been able to catch up by the time I did receive my materials. At this time I am still being charged for the class I had to drop as a result of Devry's inability to deliver on their promise of financial aid. After a few weeks of class, I began receiving bills. Calls to the financial aid and admissions advisors resulted in more assurances to disregard the bills because I would be covered 100% by financial aid.

After 3 months of this, I contacted both the admissions and financial aid departments and told them I would not continue to take classes because I still had not received any financial aid. I was beginning to feel the financial aid advisors had mislead me, the bills were increasing, and I did not want to incur any more charges. Financial aid should be completed before classes begin.

Devry is now claiming that they were unable to deliver my financial aid because I discontinued classes. Obviously one would discontinue classes after being promised 100% financial aid and receiving bills in lieu of financial aid.
