My daughter started with Devry online after she graduated, it seem to be the perfect solution to going to college and still be able to keep her job. After the first semester, they told her she was dismissed because her grades were too low and she had failed the classes she was enrolled in. We appealed the decision with the school and they let her sign up again to take the classes over. We argued that at no time did she receive any emails from the instructors telling her that she wasn't doing enough threads.
When she emailed them, they told her everything was going great then they failed her for the semester, and put her on probation the following semester which meant that if she didn't keep her grade up, they would kick her out again, which they did due to a computer error that didn't send in her last assignment. Instead of contacting her telling her that they never got the paper, they dismissed her again and she failed that class as well. Two semesters of school cost about $12,000.00 dollars and she has no credits towards college.

I'm a returning student, back in school for new training in engineering. I enrolled at DeVry in their ECET program and plan to continue through my Masters. DeVry does not offer a Masters in engineering. I was reassured that 100% of the course credits from DeVry would transfer to C.U. I wanted to be sure that I wouldn't have a problem when I went for my graduate degree. I trusted the admissions counselor to give me true and accurate information. After several mishaps with paperwork, class schedule changes and disorganized staff, I began to feel uneasy about DeVry. I decided I'd better double check with C.U. to make sure that my DeVry credits would be accepted.
To my dismay, the ECET curriculum at DeVry is not transferable to C.U. or the School of Mines (the two reputable engineering schools close to my home). DeVry does have the same regional accreditation but their engineering curriculum is not acceptable by any of the Colorado engineering schools! Sneaky! Only the gen. eds. will transfer. I certainly didn't need to spend over $4000 on gen eds! I could have done the same course work at a community college for under $1000. Going back to school while raising a family and working full time is a huge sacrifice for anyone! I'm extremely unhappy about getting jerked around by a person in a position of trust. Trading integrity for a few bucks is not a good practice for an educational facility. If you'd like to be an engineer or earn a credible degree, DeVry should be your last resort.

I have been in school part-time with DeVry since my life is hectic for approximately 4 years now and no degree, which I understand because I am part-time. But now, I have 51 credits left to graduate, reached my aggregated limit for sub/un-sub loans and had to drop out of school. The credit is shot so even with a cosigner with an excellent credit, I was unable to obtain any additional funding to go back to school. I have maintained a 3.7-3.8 GPA and have been on the dean's list every single year while at DeVry. I was told by my financial advisor that I could take out a loan from DeVry for $5,000, but this amount won't let me finish all my courses especially if each credit hour is $500 each, you do the math.
That's $500 per credit hour and 51 credits left excluding books/eBooks. I am so frustrated because now, they want the student loan money back. What a joke, especially for a person that is a full-time mother, works two full-time jobs and was going to school part-time and maintaining an A GPA. So for all the commercials and lenders that say they help, they don't, especially if you have a cosigner with excellent credit and your credit is not so clean. I am an upset honor student trying to go back to school.

I enrolled at DeVry but it failed to provide the quality education it promised. Their incompetent financial staff made several mistakes by not updating the student payments and files. They were always giving lame excuses and misleading information. There was a lack of instructors to teach the courses which made it impossible to continue my education at DeVry. The main reason consumers remove their complaints from companies like DeVry is because they are threatened with lawsuits among other threats. Most businesses like DeVry know the unlikelihood of students taking legal actions against their well-paid aggressive lawyers. DeVry is known to hire people simply to review any negative comments/complaints against them on the Internet. These people are paid employees of DeVry to defend the reputation of their company regardless of the numerous legitimate complaints against them.
Ever wonder why DeVry expands their business to areas where they know they’ll get the most tuition paid for with government grants. The company has expanded its operations in Latin American markets like Brazil and is looking to expand more abroad in developing countries like China and India. There remains a lack of government regulations with businesses like DeVry failing to protect the consumers who are misled by false promises in providing a superior university education. DeVry’s executives are well-aware how easy it is to get rich taking advantage of students who won’t have the resources necessary to hire a lawyer protecting their student rights when they are ripped off and rip-off is what Devry is.
Don’t be fooled by their ads or recruiting personnel. These are well-trained individuals working only for DeVry’s best interests and they make big money for every enrolled student who signs a contract. Do the research and be aware that most of the encouraging comments posted for DeVry are made by paid employees and not actual students. Students rarely have time from their studies to post complaints if they weren’t legit and if DeVry provided them an upright education. Brick and mortar traditional non-profit schools are the best choice where the primary concern is education and not the for-profit-con-job DeVry thrives on.
DeVry is a business institution so you must not fall for the hype from their savoir-faire employees. Their associates are well paid to mislead consumers to sign their contract. Hook, line and sinker is what they say. DeVry’s primary interest is profit and not quality education. If you want a quality education, look elsewhere.

DeVry University grossly mistreats the employees and practices an unethical and seemingly unlawful business practices. They discriminate against the few older employees they do hire along with minorities. Someone really needs to visit their site in Addison, IL, interview those over 40 in age and minorities. They treat most of their employees like slaves, however, the treatment of older employees is awful.
I work there. I'm well over 50 and a top producer, but I too am treated poorly. I'm afraid to quit because at this age, I would be homeless relative quickly. Never in the past have I had medical problems, but I have visited my doctor for the daily stress and demeaning treatment I have received. My hair and skin are suffering due to the stress and I desperately want the pain to stop. It's just not fair, I should have to quit a position I actually enjoy. It's just all the unbelievable stress these people put on their employees. I just can't even address it properly anymore. Please investigate this company, they should not be allowed to ruin your financial life (by forcing you to take their punishment or quit in this economy).

I enrolled last year in the Health Care Information Technology program as an undergraduate. From the get go, there were red flags. I couldn't get a straight answer from academic advisers. I asked a few times when I would be graduating, how many credits I needed and was never told. The financial aid team was worse. A year later, I just found out that I'm at my financial aggregate limit. So now, I can't attend school anymore because I need the aid to do so. No one ever told me until now. I can't even graduate. That's not the even the worse part, the program and courses had nothing to do with my major. I kept thinking it would get better but I reviewed the course listing that I need to choose class from and there is nothing related to health care information technology. I needed to be able to have a foundation in how technology works in health care and there was nothing that would help me achieve their degree objectives as what they stated anyway.
It has been nothing but misinformation or no information and I'm left holding the bag. I want to return my useless education as I'm not satisfied. I don't want to be paying on a degree that they didn't even tell me I wouldn't be able to get with financial aid. It's deceptive! Stress and financial hardships once these loans come due. I have a 7-year old daughter and a disabled mother that I need to care for.

It seems that most of the people who complain here are in the undergraduate program and the complaints revolve around school loans. I finished my undergraduate education at a public university and currently am pursuing an MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management. I have had a wonderful experience. I have finished 30 credits thus far and barring one class, all my classes have been very useful. This is a much better rate than most undergraduate programs even at public universities. I speak this from experience. As an international student, what I pay DeVry in out-of-state tuition is much less than what public universities charge me.
That was part of the reason I enrolled at DeVry. It's all out of pocket. I am blessed with having the necessary capital so school loan is not an issue. I never had any problem with being double charged or anything of that nature. While I dislike e-books, I have come to accept it as part of the program. As a graduate student, how much I learn depends on my own efforts. I go way beyond requirement whenever working on my assignments. I take it upon myself to read scholarly articles for my homework, hit maximum number of pages when I write my papers, start and finish my projects early, read the textbooks and work on homework questions even if they are not required to be turned in, ask questions to my instructors when I don't understand something, etcetera.
Do I expect to be hired right away when I graduate? I hope so, but in this kind of economy, even if you graduate from Harvard you will find it difficult to land a job so I keep things realistic and in perspective. While I have reservations about the depth of learning given the 8-week session format, the same can be said about any executive / accelerated MBA program, even at public universities, so it's non-sequitur. This is why I strive to always exceed requirement to make sure that I get my money's worth given the limitation of the program.
My adviser is great, she's always there to help me and she gives me honest answers. I do have plans to pursue a PhD but since it will be in a field different from Business, non-transferable credits are not an issue either. What I get from DeVry and what I am paying are very well-balanced. I strongly feel that my DeVry education has really boosted my knowledge and credentials, and I am a much more educated person with a much broader perspective now than I was years ago, when I finished my undergraduate education.

No response from the staff to sign up and for funding, it took weeks to ever get a live person, and it always was somebody other than the person we need to speak with. The only thing the university was interested in was getting us to sign up for as much money as possible. They use tactics like sympathy from your child by boosting him up with false hopes, and even tell you that once the education is complete, you can defer the payments if you don’t have the money to pay, well! Let me assure you that if this is true, it’s definitely not something that is being offered to me. They will say anything to get a cosigner, they already know you can’t afford it because they have seen your financial information. I guess they have no conscience. What is being offered is a trip to the collection agency with instructions from the financial officer/collection personnel that it’s okay to rob a bank for the money as long as I didn’t get caught! I don’t know about anybody else, but this is not the practice of standup institution, but is a clear demonstration of what’s wrong with our education system. They are going to affect my credit scores, and put me in a position to not be eligible to get loans.

My complaint is against Devry University in Jacksonville FL. I attended there back in September for their CIS program. I went and talk to a gentleman by the name of Ken. He went over the pricing which I was advised was $345 a class. He then asked me what I could afford payment wise for classes. I advised that I could squeeze $50 for it a month. He had me go talk to the financial advisor, which was Sean at that time. We filed out my FAFSA and he told me that I was approved for a $5,000 Pell grant and $7,000 in loans. So we went ahead and signed me up. I started classes about a week after.
I got an email about November stating that I owe $745 and have to be paid before I start the next semester. So I called and talked to Sean and he emailed me stating that I didn't get approved after all for the Pell grant like he thought I did. So I had gone in January and cancelled my second semester with them. They never had balls to call me and tell me when he found out about this. If I had known I would have never signed the contract with them. They never gave me any of the paper work that I signed. I found out later after asking to look at the contract when I went to go talk to the Dean Mr. ** that if I took less than 12 credit hours the classes where $500+ a credit hour and if it was 12 hours taken, then it was the $345 I was quoted. When I had talked to Mr. **, he advised me that all this would be is a "he said, she said," and there is nothing he can do. So now I am stuck with a $4,645 bill for 2 classes. They are liars and a rip off.

I have had great experiences with all the staff I have encountered in all of my online classes. From my advising team, the financial aid personnel, and most of all, my classmates. I know that any education I pursue is only as good as the time and effort I put into it, whether online or in person. I have taken many classes at Keller and plan to graduate in October 2010. I know that I have gotten this far because of the support I received from my husband and all the staff at Devry.

When talking with reps to discuss my situation, I was on track with where I needed to be. I already had an Associate’s Degree and Devry was one of the few that would accept the credits. I explained that I was choosing Devry because it was online and that although I had a four year paid scholarship because my father is a Disabled Veteran, I didn’t want to have to take the general education classes again because I despised Math. She assured me that there would be only a few Math classes that I had to take. It started out in one program and then I decided to switch to Computer Forensics. When the time came that I was supposed to graduate, Keller graduate was calling me trying to line up my schedule.
I ended up putting them off for over a year because my graduation date kept changing. They were adding classes when they were telling me I didn’t need to take them. Half way through the program, I started questions when my forensics classes were starting because I was close to the end of when I should graduate. I was informed that I was not enrolled in Computer Forensics that I was enrolled in Technology management. I asked to be switched to the correct program and I was told that I couldn't and if I wanted that particular degree I would have to start it all over again. Upon investigation, it took a team pulling all emails and conversations to determine that, in fact, I was in the wrong program and that the fault fell with my student advisor. Also, the student advisor could not be held responsible because I had access to do an audit on my degree. I did perform the audit and started asking questions. That is what started all of this.
The bottom line is I took another year's worth of classes that I was told from the beginning that I wouldn't have to take. Even my senior project was done six months early because they determined there were more classes that I needed after the fact. I had a family emergency come up and took a leave of absence from work to move in with my grandmother for over a month. I asked for forgiveness to retake one of my classes because I didn’t have the time to devote to both. I was told no. I took it again but in the middle of it we were hit by the flood of 2008 and had to move with family out of state. I asked for forgiveness again. The third time, failing the Math class twice before, I took it a third time and aced the class but each time it was almost $5K.
I fought this for two years but finally it came down to them saying my wages were going to be garnished. They also wouldn't release my transcripts saying that I owed then $2,300.00. I offered to pay it but I wanted them to give me my forensics classes, which I agreed to pay for, but I wanted it to show as my concentration on my diploma and they refused to do that. So here I am a few years later, no transcripts until Devry is paid off in 15 more months, I have students loans over $60K, I started with $13K in loans from my first degree, I can't get a job in the field because I can't prove I have a degree, and I can't pay the loans because I can't get a job in the field I thought I was getting my degree in.
It’s a vicious cycle, no one will help. I have called every number I come across, even those listed on all these sites that are complaining and I get absolutely nowhere. Is anyone going to help us or do they think it’s our entire fault? They need to do their investigation, some attorney by the grace of God will have faith and believe in us and file a class action lawsuit on our behalf. I just did a consolidation with my student loans and started repayments on two, I kept getting collection notices and apparently there was another $30K that hadn't been consolidated. My loan went from $29K to a letter yesterday stating that I owe $93K. I called all the numbers and no one can tell me why it is so high and if my loans have been duplicated. I have to figure it all out on my own. $93K for an associate’s degree that cost me $13K and then the balance to Devry for almost three years of schooling that was only to be less than two years. So now I have another mess to figure out and no one to help me understand what is going on.

I was just finishing my 6th semester a DeVry, and getting ready to schedule for my 7th, when I was told one of the classes I needed would no longer be offered on campus because not enough students signed up for it, three I think. I talked to the dean of the degree I was pursing and he told me I could take the class online and that online classes were easy to follow and even better structured than their on-campus equivalents. I trusted what he said and went ahead and signed up for two online classes, one for data base programming and the other for signal processing. The first week of class when I logged on, I found a link to an online book I was supposed to read, and read the assigned chapters for that week. I then looked at the lecture page, and to my surprise are no more than 250 words long. I tried emailing the professors of the respective classes to see if perhaps I was missing something or doing something wrong, but it wasn't until 2 weeks later that one of the professors emailed me back, and the other never did.
After a week of not receiving a reply from either of the professors I decided to drop the class(makes it as if I never signed up for it) so that I would not be charged for it, at which point I was told I was too late, and that the class could only be dropped in the first week. In short, DeVry Online classes are a complete rip off. The professors in the on-campus are always well prepared and cover the material with a through lecture totaling 2-3 hours a week, but the lectures for online-classes are basically non-existent. I was also told that the books for online learning were all eBooks and the cost for books and technology fees would not be more than $100/semester. Later I found out that the books I really needed were NOT eBooks and many of them cost several hundred dollars apiece.
The only learning materials I was given was a book to read and whatever comments my classmates made on the class forums. If I wanted to learn by reading a book, then I wouldn't pay $3500 to some university. I basically shelled out $3500 to have DeVry recommend two books for me to read.Overall, my experience with DeVry was a bad one. I feel as though I was deceived and got very little help from anyone except the campus professors. One more thing, for a school that is supposedly a technology school, the technology at DeVry (online) leaves much to be desired. The systems are almost always down, especially the first day of a new session. Logging in is nearly impossible and staying logged on is always a problem. It is very frustrating to get into studying or completing assignments and suddenly the system shuts down and now you have to start over again. And I know it's not just me. Other students have indicated the same plight. DeVry - What a rip off.

I started Devry University in 2006 and was pleased with how fast they said I could graduate and the loans that I could get and that was the only thing discussed and I was signed up that day. It is now 2010 and I still have not graduated, did have some family issues but they told me I must finish so I continued with the education. Now, I reached junior status and they said I have no money left. I ran out and that I must leave the school. Are you kidding me? Why the heck would I sign up for a school that I would not graduate from? I now have thousands of dollars in student loans and no degree or job and the whole point of going here was to get off welfare.
During my time, I have filed many different complaints about the school and the teachers being rude and wrong. For example now last semester which I dropped out, I could not take it no more, I mean no money. Why would they let me get this far and then have nothing to do with me, this cannot be legal. But anyway last semester, I had a zero balance and their eBooks were not working and in one class needed to order a book any way so I ordered hard copies from their book store the total is like $240 and now they are charging me $360. I keep turning in the receipt saying I did not get that much and that this is the total and they keep ignoring me saying nasty on the phone. I need to give them the money that they ask for.
I was promised the world and was given a garbage dump to clean up. Like my life was not already screwed up with welfare and all. I owe financial student loans and will not graduate due to the lies and the false statements of the school and their staff.

I filled out a questionnaire online while searching for a job. I figured that it was harmless enough. The next day I got bombarded with calls from Devry, some were 2 within minutes, 4 in an hour or two and 8 for the day. They even called me at work and when I politely asked told them that I had to go back to work, they kept asking me questions. They kept me on so long that I got in trouble with my boss. It is my fault for listing my cell phone.
I did some research on them and found a lot of falsehoods. Devry makes a lot of claims regarding having professors with real world experience and even claim that these professors still work in the field. If they are working in the field, how do they find time to teach? And if these professions are so lucrative, why are the professors teaching? Devry also makes claims for accelerated learning, that you can have your associates degree in as little as 1.8 years and a bachelors in as little as 2.8 years. It is possible but not realistic and very few ever achieve this. And what they forget to tell you is how the loans affect your graduation.
The problem with Devry is that are more or less like the get rich quick gurus with their TV infomercials. With Devry, they attract the naive with the promise of an easy, quick way to get a degree and earn a high income at a time when there are few jobs available and with an educational brand that is suspect. Sure they have a regional accreditation, so does the University of Phoenix but that didn't stop the government from checking them out, the SEC for forming an investigation and many employers from not recognizing their graduates.
Many employers look at Devry as a joke. Why do you suppose so many comedians and sitcoms make jokes about Devry? You don't hear them saying that about Harvard or Princeton. Devry is too expensive for what you get and the promises are higher than the reality. Stay away from Devry and don't list a real phone number if you fill out one of those online questionnaires. I learned the hard way, constant phone calls even at work bordering on harassment.

I was a model student at the Columbus campus of DeVry University since January of 2005. I was disabled, so the online classes offered were a blessing. I was referred to this college by several people who touted it as having excellent job placement and career assistance. For four years, I maintained straight A grades and earned the utmost respect from my professors. A few of these professors even have kept in touch outside of the classroom.
Then in January of 2009, my life took a very serious turn. I had an aortic dissection. I was rushed to the hospital, and fortunately, got excellent care from a very skilled surgeon. I survived the surgery, but this caused many questions concerning my student status. I had to communicate with the school through third-parties since I was confined to hospital beds and even a nursing home for several months.
At this point, I only had one class to complete before graduating with my B.S. in Computer Information Systems. I was, at that point, assured that all financial issues would be resolved if I wanted to complete this last course when I was able to return home. On this advice, I returned home in March of 2009, I registered for the class and finished my degree. I learned, halfway through the class, that part of the funds provided by student loan programs was taken back because I was not technically a full-time student for this last term.
I was allowed to walk in the graduation, but was told I would not receive my degree until the school was paid this final amount, which amount to a little more than $5,000. I have since tried to communicate with several people and departments of DeVry including financial representatives, and even the president of the university. After explaining my extenuating circumstances numerous times, and requesting some sort of leeway in repayment, my only response indicated that I had done nothing to indicate reason for not being able to pay this debt immediately. In fact, I received no response at all from the president of the university.
After several attempts to explain my situation, subsequent responses consisted of continuing notices that I was not communicating, and even a "demand notice" that threatened litigation if I did not pay. I was also told that there was just no help or assistance that the university was willing to offer. Surviving on a small Social Security Disability check, pending student loans, and owing countless medical bills, I have requested, in vain, that the college forgive this relatively small amount so that I may try to get my life back on track.
My only recourse at this point is to make it known that DeVry University does not care about its students if adversity strikes. I will continue my blog, hopefully with some backup stories from others in similar situations, until I can get some response and satisfaction from DeVry that my situation is important and that I am a valued student. I would invite and welcome those who have posted here to visit my blog and repeat your story there. Incidentally, I graduated summa cum laude. You would think they would appreciate my dedication to my education and return that integrity.

I wish my husband and I had searched back several Google pages on Devry and we would have noticed all of the other online complaints about Devry earlier. I have discovered that there are online services to manipulate complaint website searches so that unscrupulous businesses can try and cover their tracks. I think it was on this site that I found an article from 2008 where the Justice Department was or is investigating Devry for possible violations of incentive based compensation with their advisors and also providing false information to the Department of Education; disturbing to say the least.
My husband was interested in an IT degree with an emphasis in internet security and was researching several schools and was checking Devry because the school offered all classes online. I felt some misgivings as some of the classes are very challenging and require strong math skills and other classes require hands on application and I felt that some classes would be delivered more appropriately in a traditional classroom. An online degree in some disciplines still gives the same quality of education but some areas really need to be instructed in person. The academic advisor, A.J. F, was very aggressive and called Shawn several times of day. Shawn was already enrolled in a couple of 200 level classes at another school under financial aid and A.J. persuaded my husband to begin his core classes with Devry immediately. He told him that he would be going directly into his core discipline classes. He told my husband he could start right away as a class just started that day and he wouldn't miss much by getting access the following day.
My husband started the class and felt overwhelmed by taking 3 classes at once and discovered the class had already started 3 days before. My husband never received a follow up call from A.J. to check on him and see if he was navigating the online environment properly. My husband concluded the night he logged in and posted his bio that he was over committed. He contacted A.J. the next morning and A.J. told him that he could do it and he only needed to get a "C" in the class which by the way, was a Lit class and not an IT class as A.J. had indicated previously. My husband did not think Devry was appropriate after misinforming him of the class he was registered for and also failed to inform him that the class started on Sunday instead of Tuesday, and also encouraging Shawn to aim for average effort when he should be promoting a quality education.
I would also like to mention that A.J. was fully aware that my husband received student loans to finance his education at the other school he was taking classes. He made no mention that financial aid would not cover classes at both schools simultaneously. A.J. was more concerned about landing a quick sale than for looking out for my husband's best interests. A.J. told my husband that because he posted his bio that he would have to pay for 10% of the course, which is abusive. Most schools give a reasonable 100% refund policy and the pro-rate are for when you legitimately attend portions of the course. A.J. also told him that he would receive a "W" and it would not look good on his transcripts.
I was now really nervous because it was obvious that Devry is not interested in providing a quality education but trying to draw in unsuspecting people with the siren call of convenience. We have been trying to resolve the issue and were promised that the 10% would be waived and to disregard any invoice to come in the mail. However, we were told we would get a confirmation right away. Now we can't get our calls returned and Financial Aid insists we owe the funds. A.J. was certainly persistent when trying to sign my husband but now he, and his supervisor, Stacey K, have difficulty returning our calls and e-mails. If we do not get our request resolved by Monday, we are going to the Chicago campus in person to demand written verification and if we fail to get the issue resolved in that manner, we will be pursuing the issue with an attorney. It's unfortunate because the school had positive reviews as a technical school years ago but it appears now they have changed and are only interested in pleasing their stockholders. Be very careful when dealing with a private, "for profit", school.

Devry University is hobbled by an antiquated IT system such that one department does not know what another is doing. But their major problem is that they have adopted the practice of sending false emails to its students. These emails appear to have come from a certain individual, but were actually written by someone else. The purported sender has no ability to read or review them before they are sent. I paid half my tuition, $2,000, by debit card on 11-12-09. Devry's outdated computer system did not record my payment and I was barred from registering again. I emailed my student support advisor (SSA). The SSA knew I had paid half and we set up a date to pay the rest.
Two days later, I received a rogue email. It appeared to have come from the SSA. The email demanded $4,000, not the $2,000 I owed. It also said I had agreed to pay upfront, which I had not. My initial thought was that the SSA had reneged on our deal. I fired off a rather unkind email to her. Then I discovered that the email was never sent by her, and she knew nothing about it. This is no way to run a major university. Information must be current. Everyone should know who it is they are talking to. A university should never engage in the highly unethical practice of sending emails through impostors. I have registered a formal complaint, but it is too early for a response. I am already talking with other schools and I decided to jump ship. If anyone out there is thinking of Devry as a school, look hard and watch out!

In July 2009, I graduated from DeVry University. About a week or two after I graduated, I got a call from some guy from the corporate office named Don **. He said that my Pell Grants were reversed as a result of "my poor performance". The fact of the matter is that, 3 out of my last four classes were "D's". But I still graduated with a 2.4 GPA. I argued the fact that I am still over the 2.0 minimum that the Pell Grant rules require. So after stumbling his way through his ridiculous rhetoric, he said that I also made too much this year. I informed him that my wife and I made $54,000. this year. That's only $4,000 more than the previous year! Now Erika **, the Financial Aid lady from DeVry in San Antonio, said the reason why my Pell Grants were reversed had nothing to do with my grades. She could only tell me that my account was audited and they found that I didn't qualify for Pell Grants because I made too much. Now pardon my French, but this is **!
As a result of DeVry University's incompetence in auditing accounts, I was reversed actually back in March, but was allowed to keep going to school until after July (when I graduated). Now I am being denied my Bachelor's degree in Technical Management. I told both Erika and Don that I would never have gone back to DeVry and finished my degree if I had known that they were going to put me through this. I would have never reenrolled until I had enough money to cover my tuition.
I also asked why they continued to let me go to school if my Pell Grants were actually reversed back in March. They said that they didnt know because I was not audited until July. This episode has caused me such embarassment and mental anguish because I worked so hard for this. I pulled off getting my B.S. in Technical Management after being a troubled young man who was a high school dropout, and I did this all while supporting my wife and child. So, yeah this causes me great embarassment when I tell people that I have a bachelor's degree in Technical Management and I do not have an actual degree to show for it.

I went to DeVry University in July 2006. I was in DeVry for about a little over 9 months and because I was only 17 when I applied for DeVry, my mom had to get a 2nd loan for me. When I decided to withdraw from DeVry, I discovered DeVry took out a loan from Xpress Loan Servicing for my mom and I that was more than $9,000 altogether. I still don't know until this day if that $9,000 covered the whole year's expense considering that I was only there for a little over 9 months. I only took 5 classes for those 9 months. I owed Xpress Loan Servicing about $2,700 and my mom owed more than $6,000.
When I tried to get help from their financial advisors, they would tell me to wait and call back and wait some more. I finally gave up on trying to ask for help that my mom and I just decided to pay it. Even though we've managed to pay some of it off, my mom and I still owe over $6,000, which is ridiculous for 9 months of school, 5 classes? And DeVry claims that their classes are between $300 and $350?

Like most of you, I have been having problems with DeVry and all of their unprofessional staff. When I first started, I bought two of my three transcripts. I even ordered one of my transcripts myself because that was the way it had to be done. I also had a $50,000 student loan approved to be disbursed to the school. Well, after 9 months of the paperwork sitting by the side, the loan was cancelled and it left me a bill. I had to take a session off which wasted my time. It finally took a year to get three transcripts in. So now when I should have gotten financial aid based on being a junior and senior, I only received money for being a freshman and sophomore. I have 89 credits of 125. I am ready to leave this horrible place. I continually contact people, and it is like pulling teeth to talk to a live person. This is the worst experience I have ever had. Also, that loan I had could not be gotten because nine months later I was not credit worthy, and the school feels they are no way at fault.
Of course, like everyone else, I am more in debt through student loans. It has been a headache trying to get them to get my transcripts after a year. Also, they blame me for not continuing to complain to them. The whole year, I had been contacting people checking on my transcripts and private loan. I do not suggest attending DeVry to anyone. The only way you can get someone's attention is by going to the campus which is an hour drive for me. This is hard to do considering I already work three jobs. That is why I wanted to take online classes. If I had gotten that private student loan, my credit would not be bad and I would not have to currently work three jobs.

Do not go to DeVry unless you want to be overcharged! All they care about is getting money, not the student. When I first signed up with DeVry, I decided I wanted to cancel the application process. It took 3 months of me constantly emailing and calling them for me to receive my refund of $50. When I realized I would not be moving out of state after all, I started inquiring about the BA program again. The representative was very helpful at this point. However, the entire time she did not inform me that I would have to take out a student loan or pay cash. The MGIB does not pay me until the end of the month and DeVry collects in the beginning.
Mid-January, I received a bill for $3,110 from DeVry for the 2008 fall semester. I was in shock! I had not even signed up for classes yet, and I was already receiving a large incorrect bill. Of course, I had to waste my time getting the mistake corrected. They signed me up for courses without my knowledge. I later met with the financial aid rep to discuss FA, and she told me I would have to get a student loan or pay cash. I was very frustrated because my husband and I are in the process of buying our first home so we cannot take out any loans or pay a large amount of cash in the beginning of the month.
I feel that DeVry is unfair to veterans since they will not accept payments at the end of the month when the student is paid from the VA and that I was misled. I feel that due to this lack of information being given to the student in the beginning of the application process and every one that was involved wasted their time. Now, I am on to the next battle getting my refund of $100. I am uncertain as to why the original application fee was $50 and the second time it was $100. I even complained to the director and no one cares!!!

I graduated from Devry in 1994 when it was an institute. Lord, I loved that school and was always proud of myself for having attended it. In 2005, I went back there to sign on for Electronics Engineering but was offered the technical management course instead. I filled out some of the necessary forms to obtain financial aid knowing fully that I cannot pay $30,000 out of my pocket. Before the forms were completed, the rep called me, gave me a D number, and urged me to urgently sign on to the program. This is a trick that they use.
After I signed on to the program, I discovered that I will have to obtain the financial aid myself, and despite several calls to the school for assistance in completing the forms, I got no assistance. I also discovered that they offer no facility to do the program. You have to spend a lot of your time downloading materials from all kinds of crazy websites. When I asked for the books they promised me, they said none was forthcoming and I had to buy them out of pocket. So, I went to Barnes and Nobles since some of the sites I could not access to do the English part of the course. When my books arrived and I tried to log on, I could not gain access. I then informed one of the tutors that it was not working out for me and expressed my desire to abandon the venture. She told me to go ahead and sent me a letter accepting my withdrawal.
All of the frustrations reported on this page were experienced by me. The next thing I got was a letter in the mail for $2,571.00. I have been sent to all the collection agencies for receiving nothing of value. No software, no book, no grade, no report, not even a floppy disk. These people are mean and greedy. I have currently been attending Devry for a several months and I don't see what the complaint is. I am currently majoring in health information technology and I will be close to having my associates degree. I live in Dayton Ohio and I have about 3 hospitals trying to hire me as soon as I am done. No school provides you with a job. I mean they all say that, but the only thing that career service can do is offer you a lead. It sounds to me like a lot of the people complaining are just mad because they could not cut it or because they want something handed to them. Devry University is not for everyone. I am a single mother and it allowed me to obtain a good paying career in a short period of time. I will be transferring my credits to the University of Cincinnati when I am done to receive a bachelors in healthcare management. Yes, I have already talked to someone and they do accept their credits. I think that it depends on what you are trying to go to school for, and what your expectations are.
No one took advantage of me, because I always research every school before I attend it. That's many of you guys fault. I don't listen to what any adviser or sales person tells me. I find out everything for myself. Before I even attended, I contacted hospitals in my area asking if they hired Devry grads and they said yes as long as they were certified. And then I researched to see if Devry's program was accredited by Ahima which it is. So don't be mad because you allowed someone to take control of your life instead of you controlling your own. Ignorance is not bliss.

This is a double edge sword. The local dean and local advisors were actually quite pleasant and very helpful. And I did have an absolutely wonderful instructor early so I was under the impression this was going to be a great experience. My family and I (who according to the government should not even be able to survive with a family of 4 with one income below 20K) made the decision that I should follow my life long dream ever since Tron came out ages ago to be a computer programmer in graphics/gaming. The DeVry experience (as mentioned above) was actually going quite well until very recently. Then I hit a course that I paid over 1500 to learn more advance C++.
But much to my dismay I had to use C++ for Dummies borrowed from a friend (40 bucks if I had bought it), advice from a friend (also free) and when I ask for help online I get web addresses (also free). I followed their objectives. I asked as many questions and even demanded they answer in some way to provide the necessary knowledge to complete the homework. Essentially I am going to fail my first course ever in my life (bachelor's degree from Purdue University while working an average of 3 jobs so do not tell me about workload!) and scared to death of what I have done to my family's future. For military education you are required to have a degree plan on file with your education office to prove that you are taking classes (that the Gov is paying for) towards a degree. I went to register for the next semester and they told me that I had to take two other classes that were not on my plan. I told them that they were wrong and that I had taken classes that would fill the prerequisites for this class if they would just process a transcript that was sent to them in Apr. I was told flat out that they would not and I would have to take these classes.
Being disgusted with the school at this point I called to withdraw from my current class. I was told that this would take several days and that the withdraw would show on the day that I called. Not true, they didn't withdraw me until two weeks later when I told them that I would keep calling every 5 minutes until it was done. This school cost me $750 out of my pocket (have to pay back the tax payers). I could have saved 25% of that if they had withdrawn me when I asked. This school does not return e-mails or phone calls.

This last spring (2008) I returned to college and thought that Devry University sounded like a good place for adults to go to school. I had heard that private colleges like Devry were expensive so I expected that. When I first spoke to the admissions department I was told that at Devry for $50,000.-$60,000. that I could finish my bachelors in 3 years. It was much money but in my line of work, I could easily have earned it back the first year out of school so I made the decision to attend Devry.
Devry received some $4100. in student loans in my name and after I was well into my classes, they informed me that I would not be eligible for enough student loan money to go to their school full time unless I wanted to pay $2200. per semester out of my own pocket. $4100. at Devry was only enough to take one course each 8 week semester which is half-time, instead of full time. Not only that, but after finishing those 2 courses I still owed over $800. more for this semester.
It does not take a math genius to realize that at this rate it was going to take me 7-10 years to graduate from Devry at a cost of $15000. per year! I would graduate owing way more than they quoted me originally and it would take 2 to 3 times longer to finish as well. In contrast, this summer I took equivalent courses at the community colleges here in San Diego which allowed me to take 4 courses in an 8 week period, completing 12 credits towards my degree and the only thing it cost me was a $13. registration fee and my books, etc. The tuition was free as I qualified for a governor's waiver although even if you don't qualify for this waiver, it is only $20. per credit to take courses at San Diego City College and these credits are fully transferable to the UC or the CSU systems.
I was originally scheduled to complete 2 more courses at Devry starting in the Fall, (which is actually the second half of Devry's Summer semester), September 1, 2008 so I contacted them today, August 14, 2008 and they told me that it was too late to drop the courses although they don't start till 9/1/2008. So Devry is telling me that although I am not going to attend classes on September 1, 2008, that the $5100. that was provided to me in student loans will not be refunded to either myself or the loan company.
In addition, Devry seems to be having accounting and money problems as they have recently delayed the disbursement of student loan monies by 3 weeks, stating that they are having trouble keeping up with all of the student finances and will not be releasing student loan money until the end of August rather than the beginning which is the normal schedule for student loan disbursement.
I now owe almost $10,000. in student loans for completing 3 classes at Devry University although over $5000. of this $10,000. I owe was for classes I am not going to take at Devry. I feel 2 weeks notice before the course starts is plenty of time to be able to cancel the course. Devry explains that September 1, is the beginning of the second half of their summer semester, (what they call summer semester B), and they say that even though my class hasn't started yet, I had to cancel it at tne beginning of Summer semester A, back in July. So they refuse to turn the latest finance money back over to the loan company or to me. This of course means that I will have to pay this entire $10,000. in student loans as student loans must be repaid.
Despite the fact that I only completed 3 courses at Devry, (2 of which I cannot even apply towards my degree, something that was not disclosed to me by Devry until after I had completed the first 2 courses). So really I am paying $10,000. for a single Algebra 114 Class that was worth 4 credits! A mighty expensive and painful lesson.
Meanwhile, I am continuing school at San Diego City College and they are much more ethical about everything but it is ironic that I have to pay all of my other school expenses out of my own pocket while Devry got over $5000. for a semester in which I did not attend a single class. I do not know if I can pursue this in small claims court but possibly you could advise me how to proceed to try and recover that $5000.? Thanks for any help and time.

I went and spoke with the Dean of Business Mr. Mylon and he informed me that the Criminal Justice program that they offer would not be suitable for me. I told him I no longer would like to continue my classes and I am going to switch to a school that would offer me the program that I want. I listened to him and never dropped my classes. I enrolled with Berkeley University and started taking my classes there. I have read through all these inputs, and none of them really make any sense. Just because you drop a class doesn't mean you don't have to pay for it. Your financial aid/grants/loans are all based on your attendence. When you drop your attendance the aid changes. It doesn't matter that you started the classes. Financial aid doesn't pay for dropped classes, DUH!
What about the guy with the so called grants, but they were really loans. How do take out student loans with out knowing it. Even for Stafford loans, you have to sign MPNs and find a lender, you don't even make any sense. I started going to Devry last seesion. I have attended online schools before. Everything is the same. If it is too confusing for you, then you don't go to an online school.
I think that the problem here is that people think getting an online degree is so easy. They come in and say that the instructor didn't show up, or they fail you on pre req classes! Get a life!! I am not sure if all these people were taking online courses through their campus. Another one I liked is the guy who said 100% of his school is paid for. I am in the military, recieve pell grants, MGIB, and still end up having to pay for my books. Nothing is free, ever!!
It seems that the only people who complain is the people who don't know what they are talking about, or they aren't happy. So far, I am very saitified with my schooling with DEVRY ONLINE. In fact one of my instructors is DR. L. so I would definitely say that she is qualified to teach my pre req class!

Basically I paid the tuition, but the instructor never showed up. I tried to speak to Center Dean about it and Administrative Assistant, but they told me to contact the on-line department. I did -- no response. I even tried to contact the Accrediting Agency because of the issue. Accrediting Agency said this did not impact accredition. Then I was getting ready to sign up for the summer classes, and the center made a mistake and said the class I needed will be offered next quarter and wanted me to sign up for an elective at the Center for this quarter. The electives were totally worthless since I had taken most of these classes or had waived out. They just wanted me in class for $$.
The quarter before, they convinced me to start even though I was several hours late to the first class. The professor would try to accomodate me. The professor did not help me, but the school was able to nail me for the first week's tuition, so I ended up taking the course. I passed, but I was disappointed. The academic advisors do not know what classes I needed. I even emailed them the program I needed, and the classes they offered did not match. It is a complete waste of time.

I trusted my adviser's advice and followed through.
Unfortunately, my adviser may not have realized or noticed that following her advice would revoke my financial aid, since the minimal number of COMPLETE credit hours would not be satisfied. My $10,000 in student loans was revoked and I was slapped with a bill for over $8000. Over several months of correspondence, no one at DeVry would/could offer a solution. When I called the academic group, they referred me to the financial group. When I explained my situation to the financial group, I was referred back to the academic group.
DeVry is a business. It's academic and financial services boil down to that, especially on the academic side. Over my 3.5 year stint at DeVry, I had 3-4 student 'advisers.' I was obvious their goal was to keep me coming back for classes. Some might've had a grasp on the degree offerings and challenges student's face but the focus was on signing you up for classes not supporting you with information and direction to get through them.
My credit reports reflects a significant charge-off for the remaining balance. This makes me unable to get another loan to pay this off. Also, it affects my purchasing power and ability to continue to afford to continue my education.

Five years later, I discovered that they had turned my supposedly delinquent account over to collections, still without ever having sent out a bill.
To add insult to injury, they used my social security number as an account number, and turned that over to only the gawds know who at some podunk collections company, so now I have had to put watches on my accounts and with the credit bureaus. That may seem reactionary, but we all know what scum collection agencies hire and use, and I'm not comfortable just hoping for the best.
This inaccurate report has exposed my personal information to disreputable people, damaged my credit score, and cause me a great deal of pain to unravel. Most people will be forced to just pay the bill, since they won't be able to prove they paid it at this late date.

I attended DeVry University in Orlando, Florida from July-October 2007 and had to drop out of DeVry in Orlando, Florida because this facilitys administration did not provide the high-quality education they promised and focused more on their business prospects than the students educational values or the safety concerns on school property.
After DeVry cleaned house as the term is often expressed by numerous staff, and students, the University had hired some new Deans, Professors and administrative employees because of the financial problems they were encountering resulting from the high student drop out rate. They replaced several highly regarded Professors with lower paid instructors who are not qualified to teach certain core courses necessary for a student to productively progress in their course. The important issues regarding having a proficient staff is that it is imperative for students to gain the knowledge of these core courses in eight weeks as compared to a State University of twelve weeks.
There was an enormous amount of red tape before I was allowed to even make an appointment to talk to a Dean or administrator about the problems while the financial department is still charging for classes not worth the high tuition for the unqualified instructors.
I have been waiting for almost 1 year for them to resolve the mistakes made on my grants and loans they had taken since I was left their school because of an incident with a student threatening me on the public discussion site. My Professor did not intervene nor did the administration and my entire class saw the threats made because this student did not want to participate in a course required group project. I didnt feel safe on their campus after the threats and my car was damaged on their property. I spoke with several people in admissions, student services, Deans, and the President of DeVry of Orlando. All I received in return were empty promises and a loan I cannot re-pay for worthless classes. They apparently were more concerned of their revenues than rectifying the problems of school safety concerns on their property or addressing an unqualified Professor who labeling his students as guinea pigs in an email he had sent me.
A students main concern should be on their education not spending countless wasted hours trying to make appointments with administrative staff to resolve problems that needed to be immediately addressed before another tragic school incident occurs. Some concerned Professors were telling students it would be good to check out State Funded Universities because they were also disturbed about the complaints they were hearing from other students.
Youd be wise to check out a State University like UCF, FSU, etc. or another private University than enroll at DeVry of Orlando. As a single, 46 year old mother raising two teenagers I am now constantly billed thousands of dollars I have no way of repaying or be able to continue my education since DeVry has not resolved nor corrected the problems or my financial paperwork as promised since October 2007. DeVry of Orlando, FL. has taken away my hopes of ever attaining my college degree because they are a For Profit Business? and not concerned about the safety of all students on their campus or quality of education they promise prospective students upon enrollment.
DeVry University adds to the economic problems of the Orlando area especially when students are unable to re-pay their loans for a useless education. They are also contributing themselves as an unsafe campus since they didnt intervene nor follow strict policies protecting all students on their property even after all the recent University tragedies on the news. There seems to be a lack of concern by administrators for communicating with dedicated students to resolve important issues so a student can productively continue their education in a safe environment.

This is an overview of my experience with Devry University
8/152007 (Approx) I completed enrollment with Devry/Charlotte(could not complete tour of building because my admissions advisor had a dentist appointment at 11:30 AM which is why I most likely didnt meet with the Dean).
8/20/2007 Emailed financial aid to verify that I would not have difficulties with the transfer from ITT to Devry(received phone call stating that everything looked good and that I should not have no financial aid issues).
9/1/2007 start of the summer part B semester (classes were picked by academic advisor and I signed papers).
10/1/2007 after researching the problem I discovered that I had two D numbers I notified the registrar at Charlotte and was rudely informed that I was impossible and that I did not. Also during the first week of October I had done some research by speaking with campuses in Raleigh N.C. and Seattle WA., Where I found the origin of the original D Number. (Seattle Admissions Advisor) During this time I was informed that Charlotte campus did not have a financial advisor during this time I was primarily dealing with Martha because the registrar basically acted like she did not have the time to deal with my problem and had a nasty attitude every time I spoke to her.
10/21/2007(approx) request specific info for classes needed for my degree program. Apparently I was to have a meeting with the Dean concerning my class schedule which I never had or knew that I needed to.
11/1/2007 not allowed to register for winter classes due to the two D number issue and no financial aid advisor at the campus level. Learn my account is placed on hold and not allowed to transfer college transcripts to an State of New York College because I had an outstanding account balance.
11/15/2007 (approx) Spoken with the Dean about my situation, She sais that she did not know of my situation and that she would correct the issue.
11/26/07 started to have conversations about the BTSM degree program. I Felt I was somewhat mislead about the classes that I had take or as the Dean stated that transferring in credits and the BSTM program is difficult to explain and that I should have spoken to her about my class schedule, and there is no one in the office who can explain what I needed to know but her. This has been ongoing with the exchange of many emails and at least two telephone calls and still do not have a clear ideal of what is needed to graduate.
12/13/2007 Informed that the merging of the two D numbers was now complete and that I now could register for January session B classes. Also informed that financial aid would not be able to complete processing summer part B until I register for winter classes. When speaking to financial aid personnel for online students I was informed that one possibility was that I needed to transfer funds from one semester to clear up the last semester.
12/27/2007 Find out that my worst fear is true. Financial aide did not go thru as planned for the part B of summer, so now I have a $2500 out of pocket fee Somehow I believe this was discovered while finally processing my paperwork months too late and this is the reason why I was rushed into enrollment for the January classes. (Why do I always find out all the details thru Devry online and not thru the Charlotte campus?).
12/28/2007 Sent email to the Dean that I was displeased and I would not attend Devry and to unregister me from all classes.
1/4/2008 called Devry online and unregistered for classes which still have not been completed at this time.
Out of all of this I only asked for one item, to reimburse me for the class I had taken and was not needed. During all of this mess I was given course CIS206 which is a class that I had no need of taking. A 4 credit class at almost 500 dollars a credit hour that is an 2000 mistake.(cis206 IS NOT ON THE COURSES I NEED TO GRADUATE LIST)I was told that she(the Dean) would be able to apply the credits but I should only be taking upper level classes.
This could have been Acceptable but being CIS206 is a intro to operating system class and I have an associate's degree in Computer Networking Systems this literally is the first class I had to take at ITT Tech. This is the main reasons I feel that I should not have to pay for this class.

I called Devry University after seeing one of their adds on TV about a video game program they had. When I talked to the representative from Devry, whose name was Jason Hart, I told him I had no money, and the only way I could attend the school is if I received grants. Jason said this could most likely be done. I had to contact financial services, filled out all the forms that they sent me, and a couple of weeks later they said I was approved for all grants and that my school was paid for. So I started attending the online class I signed up for. At the end of that class, I received a bill, called Jason who said to call financial services, who told me to ignore it, that the grants hadn't all been processed yet. So I signed up for another term, and received another bill. This time financial services said the grant just hadn't shown up on my account yet.through because they usually send the check at the end of the second term, and to ignore the bill, that my schooling would be paid for. I called Jason who said it was a problem with the way that the grants come in at the end of the term, and it would show up then.
The last week of the class I received a call from financial services, and they told me that in order to sign up for my classes in the next term I would have to pay my outstanding bill. When I asked them why I had a bill because they told me I had grants they said, "Oh that was our fault--it wasnt grants, they were loans; we are sorry about that, but now you owe us money." I tried talking to people about what happened, and they said it was a mistake that the grants they were looking at were actually loans. Now I am stuck with a bill and have been sent to collections because I have no money--like I told them in the beginning. I have to make payments; the bill is around $2700. They lied to me and are now affecting my credit.

I was enrolled in Devry's online BA program in computer technology. I was basically promised by the admissions counselor that my degree would payoff big time. Well, I'm still waiting for the payoff. My degree was to get me prepared in web design. No luck.
The recruiters that I talked to in the real world informed me that the classes I took probably prepared me for the basic basics that a home user can pick up by reading a book. In one class, ASP.net, the instructor was so bad that to prevent the entire class from flunking, he gave us an assignment to go shopping for jewelry.
I'm out about 17500 in tuition. I pay 123 a month for a wated career change by a school that promises everything, but doesn;t deliver. I saw a 96% placement rate, not for their online students, the placement office nver came through.

My degree from DeVry has not improved the quality of my life as it was promised by the entrance counsellor before I was sucked into $60,000 of school loans. As far as placement a list of temporary agents provided secretary jobs that were not interested was a bull crud attempt for the school to state that they provide job placement....
I have a job that pays less with a degree and a bunch of loan associations calling for their money, when I can't make enough money to pay my monthly living bills.

On April 30, I finished teaching a Class at Devry Fort Washington Campus. I then received a message from Kathleen P, one of the faculty members there that I will not be paid until I submitted the Georgia Form and all my transcripts. I submitted all transcripts, and currently Devry University refuses to pay me. They claim the payment has been send, however, they cannot prove that it has, and I did not receive it.
I am currently behind in my bills, and some have been paid late.

I was attending DeVry University from 7/12/04 to 10/24/04. I was 17 years of age. My mother and I went to one of the school workshops for financial Aid in which they assisted us from beginning to end on filling out till submitting my financial Aid application. In the Middle of the trimester they had called me in to let me know they were still missing what they call the A and B form which was important in order for them to submit my financial Aid application completely.
They informed me that everything was taken care of and that the financial Aid was processed.I even received a Cal grant of 8,000.00 dollars wich they have a copy of. Two weeks prior to the trimester ending they pull me out of class to inform me that their was a discrepancy in my 2004-05 taxes. My mother had claimed me for one of the years i was not living with her and i had done my taxes individually because i was working and not living with her. They informed me that i needed to get a letter from my accountant amending the taxes. I requested a letter from my accountant.
One week after classes were over i received the letter from my accountant amending the taxes and when i took it back to DeVry the staff in the financial Aid office said it was too late to process the papers and that it was not going to cover my class fees. They never informed me of needing the paper before the trimester ended.
Now they are telling me that i have to pay $6,931.19 for the classes. They are pushing me to pay them a monthly payment of $565.00 per month. wich i cannot pay i dont agree on paying for this because the delay was on their behalf.

I was attending class at Devry because I was promised 100% financial aid by their advisors, who encouraged me to start classes before my financial aid had gone through and assured me 100% of my costs would be taken care of. In addition the financial aid and admissions advisors are fully aware that I am currently in a Chapter 13 bankruptcy and unable to pay any expenses out of pocket or obtain assistance from my family. Had I not been guaranteed 100% financial aid I would not have entertained the thought of attending classes.
Due to the issues with my financial aid, I was unable to receive my books on time, which resulted in my decision to drop one of my two classes, as I would not have been able to catch up by the time I did receive my materials. At this time I am still being charged for the class I had to drop as a result of Devry's inability to deliver on their promise of financial aid. After a few weeks of class, I began receiving bills. Calls to the financial aid and admissions advisors resulted in more assurances to disregard the bills because I would be covered 100% by financial aid.
After 3 months of this, I contacted both the admissions and financial aid departments and told them I would not continue to take classes because I still had not received any financial aid. I was beginning to feel the financial aid advisors had mislead me, the bills were increasing, and I did not want to incur any more charges. Financial aid should be completed before classes begin.
Devry is now claiming that they were unable to deliver my financial aid because I discontinued classes. Obviously one would discontinue classes after being promised 100% financial aid and receiving bills in lieu of financial aid.
