A few years ago our house burned down and our insurance had lapsed so we were faced with 7 consumer debts we just couldn’t manage to pay. Bankruptcy was really not an option for us. We found Freedom Debt Relief and after much consideration, we enrolled in their program. Today all of our debts are either settled and paid or settled. FDR has done a great job for us and would recommend them highly.

I don't think they tried very hard to negotiate on my behalf. They negotiated a settlement that was more than my initial debt. I don't think that would take much negotiation. I think they could negotiate that in a matter of minutes.

I did research and Freedom Debt Relief seemed to be the most reputable. When I contacted them, they really extended themselves and helped me a lot. A friend of mine is the one that told me about them. They eventually didn't need it, but they said they contacted them, and they said that it would be a good way to go. So, I did. Freedom Debt Relief sends me emails once a month on the status of everything. If I have any questions, I call, and it's resolved almost right away. They're doing a great job.

Almost every time I called I got a different answer from the representative. The fees Freedom was charging was basically the amount they were saving me in the program. If I ever got myself into this situation again I would handle it on my own.

The service gets the job done. I am surprised though with how much their fees are. Once a debt is settled for a percentage, it seems as though the fee that is assessed by FDR brings it up a big notch. In other words, what you thought when they settle a debt for 60 or 70%, ends up being more like 65 or 75% once they tack on their fees. I was quite surprised almost to the point that I felt if I had the time, I could have negotiated a better deal. On the other hand, those debts that they settle for 50% or under, make it worth it.
We appreciate you voicing your concerns regarding our settlement fees, William. Remember our clients are carrying a credit card balance from month to month, interest is charged on a daily basis, and it affects both the existing balance and any new purchases that post to their account. The interest you’re charged one day also becomes part of the balance accruing interest the next. In other words, credit card interest compounds daily. Even with our settlement fee, maintenance fee, and taxes, those totals could not exceed the compound rates like credit cards. My father Richard ** is the FDR customer, and has asked me to assist him as he does not use the computer or cell phone any longer. We both have been very please with how FDR has handled Dad's account. We may be getting close to finishing clearing up all the debts Dad had only a few years ago. In fact, the last negotiation was completed just a week or so ago.
The process takes some time, but could have gone a little faster if Dad could have afforded a bigger monthly contribution. But, we can see the finish line now, and it will be nice for him to know that his debt has been settled and repaid. We both appreciate FDR and their care for their clients. My husband and I enrolled in Freedom Debt May 2018. We had about 111K in debt from our years of having two mortgage payments. We were hit by the economy crash of 2007, and by divorce, before we met and got married in 2013. Both of us had a lot of debt, from trying to pay two mortgages and paying off our debt from previous relationships. We were overwhelmed.
We ended up contacting Freedom Debt and enrolled in the program. We had a total of 14 debts to resolve and we were up to our eyeballs in stress, only making minimum payments, and never making a dent in our payoff amounts. Freedom debt discussed our options. We started off paying what we could. We started off paying how much we would pay for minimums for all 14 debts. We kept this up and with the help of Freedom, We were able to pay the first debt off immediately.
Freedom were able to negotiate settlements that range from 40% settlement to 80% settlement. When we had a legal case raised against one of our debts, Freedom Debt works in partnership with NLLG, Inc to help with court settlements. We were Extremely grateful for this service to keep us from having to go to court.
Our anticipated graduation timeframe, if we kept payments the same over the years was December 2024. We were able to graduate by August 2021 because we paid extra when we could, we increased our biweekly payments when we could, and we made sure paying off our debt was our main focus.
Here are my take-aways from this program.
1. Step into Payments that you can manage. Do not break your family finances trying to hurry the process. Pay what you can and if you graduate longer, you graduate longer.
2. Take advantage of the NLLG, Inc. Representation. They know how to settle things when the courts step in. ALWAYS follow their directions and the MOMENT you get a certified mail with a court document, open the door, sign for the document and call Freedom Debt IMMEDIATELY. If you do not, it can be difficult for them to assist. The moment you receive something court related, engage Freedom Debt.
3. Watch the videos that Freedom Debt gives. They tell you how to speak to your debtors. Avoiding phone calls does not make things better. Take the call, and follow the script.
4. Get used to the fact that there will be an influx of calls once you stop payments. This has to happen for Freedom Debt to Help. When you communicate using the scripts in the videos and stay to the script, things become much easier and the stress becomes less.
5. Do not skip your payments to Freedom Debt. Skipping payments can run the risk for payment schedules to be missed. Set yourself up for realistic payments. Don't over pay thinking you have this and then when an emergency hits, you are stuck.
6. When in doubt, call and speak with someone at Freedom Debt. They are there for you. You pay your monthly fees to use their service and they will help! We had a ton of debt. We were embarrassed, but once we get over the embarrassment, and we work the process, it is satisfying to be debt free.

I entered into an agreement with Freedom Debt Relief thinking it would help resolve my debt. In one way it did, but in another it fell far short. They have negotiated settlements with my creditors (3), having already settled two with the last in process. However, when you add up the total I will have paid, it will actually exceed the amount I owed. I realize FDR has to charge fees to offer their services, but looking back on the process it seems the fees are rather exorbitant. Therefore my rating of three stars.

I got scammed by someone online. I was freaking out and desperate. I was looking online and before I know it, somebody called me from Freedom Debt Relief where I had looked online. They scanned me and they took my information. It all sounded really good. Without taking time to really do any research on it, I went for it because of the way it was laid out, I thought I can handle this and this is reasonable. I can't make monthly payments on my own without help because it was all too much for me. So, that day, I bought it. I was fine with everything until I realized it was taking way too long to get any progress from paying off one debt to the next. In that process, I was never really good at searching their website. It's easy to find things, but I just didn't know where I needed to double-click or how to find information.
I was calling to find out something. When I looked at my website, I found the page of the history of my payments. It had a monthly deduction for the lawyer fee that I said cancel to, on the day I signed up. Sean was the salesman who called me. I said, "I don't want the insurance." He said, "You don't have to have it," I said, "I don't want it." I wasn't being charged that extra $12 off of my principal. At least that's what I thought until I saw this page where, when I canceled that, it never got canceled. When I realized that, I threw a fit because I was already in the fear zone of, "You're gonna make me pay on this for another year." I agreed to 48 payments for them to settle my debt and get rid of me. But now, it was going into 60 payments and I was freaking out big time.
I don't know how long it took me to prove that I was innocent. Because I was guilty until somebody went and listened to that phone recording of when I canceled it, which took at least two weeks and several people that I screamed at. Finally, they said, "You're right, you did cancel it. It didn't get canceled." And they gave me the money back. I let that sit in my account, and then I made an extra $250 payment so I could get caught up and get one debt gone, and the next one being taken care of. With this last month, I have $8 and some cents in my designated account.
They're like everybody else who is in the money market business. They don't care. They're gonna make money on you no matter what. I took care of this debt that they were screwing up, this insurance payment. Now, I'm down to square one and I have two debts left to settle. With the way it looks, I'm going to be paying more than the 48 payments because they have to get paid. When I agreed to sign up, I wasn't thinking of, "How do you guys get paid?" Because that should have been all figured out in the bottom line of what he told me and it wasn't. He didn't describe how the payments were going to work and how I was going to get paid because I wasn't asking him a ton of questions. I had this amount of debt, he told me they would take this many payments to pay it off, and I said, "Okay." I know that there was a gray area there, but it should get done sooner than that. Sean was not helpful at all.
Another time, when I was trying to settle that late stuff, the $12 fee that was going the wrong way for the attorney fee. I kept calling it that and they told me there's no attorney fee. But whatever the correct words are, I talked to one of the representatives quite intensely and shared a lot of stuff with her. When I went to find her to call her back, I couldn't get ahold of her at first. When I finally did, truly, in my heart, it was not the same person I talked to, it was somebody who was being an imposter and lying to me because she couldn't remember what we talked about, and then said, "I talk to so many people." She never remembered me.
They would not let me talk to a supervisor, because I was demanding talking to somebody in authority. They said, "No, you're gonna get the expedite department." But that wasn't a manager, that was just another name for somebody in customer service as far as I'm concerned. I'm also afraid to make extra payments because they're just going to use that money and I don't trust anything about them at this point. I'm stuck.

If you're questioning if this option is the way to resolve your debts. You would be correct. Be prepared for low credit scores (for years), poor customer service, false promises that won’t be fulfilled. Mis-reporting of what was resolved on your Credit report (even after you’ve settled). Miscalculations on your monthly payments (my payment increased by 30 percent). No response from Executive Management when they were asked to take accountability for their employees for making promises that were never followed through on or followed up on. The possibility of being sued by your creditors. WARNING! BUYER BEWARE.

At one point I raised my monthly amount, but now I’ve hit a tough patch financially and needed to lower it, But now I have to call each month to adjust it. My original amount was 1200 I increased it to 2000 but I want to reduce it to 1300 and a second deposit Of 200 but you will not accommodate me.

The reason why we were probably not able to adjust it was because since you voluntarily asked to permanently increase the monthly deposit, negotiators are now basing off the settlement arrangements from the new amount that the deposit was increased to so that you are able to graduate faster. Unfortunately, if you have settlements in place, we are not able to permanently decrease the deposit since you may lose the settlement due to there being no funds in your dedicated account. FDR managed 5 credit cards with a reduction in payments of about 40% less than owed. I am "debt free" which has not happened in over 65 years. Thank you for your very professional manner in handling these problems. Your tracking of progress and updates were timely and very helpful. The ability to keep the credit card companies from calling was great. These calls essentially were from debt collectors that the credit card companies turned the debt over to.

I really have nothing else to say on the matter. You are doing your job and taking my money. Of course it is costing me more than I expected. It did not realize you all let interest grow before you pay something off. This is costing me more than my original debt.

Customer service for FDR is always kind and fair and helpful to me whenever I have to call. They always make sure that I'm going to be okay, and that any issues I'm having with my settlements are dealt with. I wish I would have better understood the impact on my credit score. I went for 740 to around 500. Bam! It has impacted my life greatly. Now trying to buy a house is almost impossible. It will take a will to recover. At my age, I may never.

Being enrolled with Freedom Debt Relief will negatively impact credit since the client is voluntarily agreeing to stop making payments to their creditors. If a client continues making these payments, then their creditors will have no reason to negotiate with us and reduce what they owe. This also impacts the credibility of stating the client is going through hardship if the creditor can clearly see on a Credit Report that the client is still able to make payments each month. However, there is no permanent credit impact. A study of our recent graduates shows that the median FICO score declines in the first 6 months of enrollment, and begins a steady recovery process soon thereafter. I have more than enough money in my bank with FDR to pay off Target completely and it should be completely paid off and should not have been set up on multitude payment plans that doesn't need to happen. Pay them off before I take out my money and do it myself.

My conversation with the customer service rep wasn't bad. I am somewhat disappointed because this program has no options for people who have lost their jobs because of the pandemic. The customer service person kept telling me the consequences of not paying the monthly fee. I understand, but I need options. Now I'm hopeful FDR won't try and take money from my account I don't have at the end of this month.

The reason we aren't able to reduce your payments at certain times is because we are really depending on those funds being there so that we can make certain payments, especially if you have accounts that are in a structured settlement. If you don't have those funds, you are at risk at losing those structured settlements and we'll have to start the negotiation process and payments all over again. I was initially given a payoff time of about 1 year - It was then changed to two years and now it is closer to 3 years. I cannot afford to give FDR almost 2 weeks pay for another year and am now checking into filing bankruptcy in order to get my debts resolved sooner.

I'm okay with FDR. I like the way they are working. When I make a call, some of the representatives satisfy my questions with their answers. I've always been satisfied with how they handled it. I just wish they could work a little bit more closely on how their client is making a living, where his money goes and how much it leaves him at home. The gentleman told me that by October, they would all be paid off. I continue making my payments and it sounded good to me. But I wish I could get out of it faster. I'm 76 years old and things are not going too good. 331 bucks a month, it does cut into my Social Security quite a bit. But I'm happy to know that there is some help for me, even though it's very tight financially.

While speaking to the associate, she She referred to me by a totally different name that was not even close to mine. This caused me concern that she had the correct account brought up on the screen. She went on to explain that she had been typing an email up to a different client at the same time she was talking to me and Just said the wrong name by mistake. This was most disturbing. I had her reverify that she had my account on the screen and not the other client's.
I have worked tele customer service for 8 years myself. My focus while on the phone with a client was always to the client at hand. Luckily this mistake wasn't costly that we know of. But this left me with a very bad feeling that my time as your client isn't important enough to spend a few minutes focusing on my needs as your customer. I understand she probably has a large workload, but I feel additional training in time management and customer focusing skills should be reemphasized, especially to this associate. This is the first time I have called in and had an experience like this. I hope it doesn't become a ongoing issue in the future.

It is not an easy decision to enter in to a debt consolidation program, at least it wasn't for me. I had so many concerns and questions and was terrified of even MORE pushy calls and emails about my debts (as if the creditors weren't enough, some consolidation firms were so aggressive)! Freedom Debt Relief has been a relief from the beginning. My initial conversations were helpful, full of good information, and never ONCE pushy or aggressive. The process to begin was reasonably simple and easy to complete, and there was never a point where I felt like a question was unanswered or a process unexplained. Making payments to my dedicated account is automated and I don't have to think about it. Frustrating, scary conversations between me and creditors ceased and were handled by FDR. My dashboard is easy to access, read, and manage. Communication is only as frequent as it needs to be and always incredibly informative.
I optioned to have the additional support from National Litigation Law Group (NLLG) that FDR offered for legal issues (in the event a creditor attempts to sue and/or garnish wages) and that has been WELL worth it! Being served documents by a creditor during my program was frightening, but NLLG handled everything and the outcome was better than I could have hoped. Wanna know how your credit might be impacted? It'll hurt for a bit. However, I'm halfway through my program and have rebuilt my credit score to the mid 600s already. It's only going to get better from here if I keep doing the work! Life circumstances and poor decisions led to my debt predicament, but with Freedom Debt Relief, I can see the bright light at the end of the tunnel!

I do like the program itself. The settlements I have received so far have been awesome. Also, when I speak to a rep on the phone they are always very nice and helpful. I also like the text option for settlements and other updates. However, I do not like your website. I get errors all the time when trying to submit payments. One time I was charged 5 times due to errors on your site and was not assisted at all by customer service (which is unusual). And was out $150! And then I've had other times where a payment said it went through and then it did not.
I also do not like the fact that if I do want to make an extra payment I can't submit it for the same day or even for the next day. The calendar does not allow it. It's always Monday and Fridays it seems. The site is also difficult to navigate and notifications do not update. I still have a notification from July 31, 2021 that will not go away. I really wish FDR would create a mobile app, but I fear I'd have the same issues I have with the website.

Updated on 9/14/2021: No my call was not satisfactory. No my question was not answered. My experience with Freedom Debt Relief is Bad. Really Bad!!!! There is no trust. No experienced representative has reached out to me. When you get a judgment against you, you're on your own. I had to call the debt collector today. The one I was told was in negotiations, but was Not. Do you have 17,000 dollars I can have? Because that is what they would like to have.
When I started in this a year and two months ago, I was told to deposit money every month. I was told the amount that was needed to get me debt free. I up that monthly amount. I added more to it when I could. And lawsuits started coming. Some was negotiated. Then I was told it was my fault because there was not enough money in my account to settle this lawsuit. Even though I deposit the amount every month that I was told to do, and more. Now where do I get the money to pay this judgment and freedom? You need to change your name. Too more debt not relief!!!. Please do your homework check out things before you jump. I do not want anyone to have to go through what I am. Be safe.
Original review: I just left the court room with a judgment against me. Something Freedom Debt Relief said their Lawyers was on. I am in judgment for 17,000 dollars. I have two accounts that are in settlements. But they are going to take me to court. One is paid off. So someone or all in freedom debt relief, does not know what they are doing. They have a settlement fee percentage of 21.25%. Now do I pay all of that plus the 17,000 I owe discover??? Be careful before going with these people.

They have knowledge of which companies will be the hardest to work with. For example, Discover. I did everything they wanted and still they could resolve the my Discover account on time. This cause a judgment from Discover to be approved by the courts and is not on my record. Because of this, I lost my apartment. Had a known, I never would have used them for my debt relief.

I was wary about this but being desperate with nowhere to go we called. Thank god we did. Our debt is slowly going down at a fraction of the amount owed. Yes there are fees but no one works for nothing. And it does not go away overnight. Their association with National Litigation Group, a lawyer service priced at a real bargain. They swing into action and go to court for you. Their strategy is not very clear but you do get the point over time. We are on a four year program with over two years already in. Looking for the day we are debt free.

I had two accounts with balances and one of them had a pretty large balance. Freedom Debt Relief set me up to pay them so much a month. That way, the creditors kept them from calling and bugging me. After I got set up, I haven’t corresponded with them that much. I'll call once in a while and they'll send me mail to look over so I'm pleased with the way they work. They’ve paid off one. But we haven't got enough money saved up yet to pay the big one. Nonetheless, working with FDR is a big relief to have that off my mind.

Agents are very "smooth" talkers and convince you to sign up but getting into the program and all the fees, and the fact that I was paying off my debt, I really wish I had not signed up in the first place. It is very deceiving and would not recommend it to anyone who is making regular payments. Just keep making your payments and clear your debt on your own because in this program, you ruin your credit reputation too. And in order to clear your debt faster they ask if you increase your deposit. Taking from retirement fund and cashing in partial life insurance policy, I'm no better off, in fact worse off, than I was before. DO NOT ENROLL IF YOU TRULY DON'T HAVE TO!

I was happy with FDR until I got sued by Discover - that was a harrowing experience - I spent many sleepless nights worrying about that and it was such a hassle getting all the paperwork to them and getting it all notarized etc.

I'm satisfied with Freedom Debt Relief. They did good. I don't agree that they have stretched out this thing for so long, but I understand they're only gonna do what the account allows them to do. I've got two accounts that they haven't even touched yet. Those people are still calling me and threatening to sue me, but that's okay. I've told every single one of them that it doesn't make any difference. But now, they're not calling me and they're not selling my case to anybody else. It's just they still, on occasion, send me an email or call me and remind me that I owe them or they're taking me to court, and I turn it over to FDR or I just tell them, "Just call them in Arizona."
I have had to ask Freedom for help on occasion to maybe push a payment ahead a little bit or not to take the money out quite yet. A couple of times, they threatened my ability to be in the program, but then, if I asked them if they could wait just a couple weeks, they usually do. I'm hoping that by the end of the year, a business that I'm involved with is going to launch and it'll help me pay for everything. A couple of years ago, they had a deal where they had a girl that called me and she sounded more like a salesperson than trying to help me, and this was when they were going to do that loan thing. She was very impersonable and I didn't trust her. But the guy that helped me get it started did a good job. We added a couple other bills, and they jacked up the price by $100 a month. But so far, I'm able to do it.

Freedom Debt Relief is not what I thought it was. I asked if they would be working with the creditors, which they are, and that the bills would get settled faster than it did and I’d be paying a lump sum on the bills. But it didn’t turn out that way. They go on for a long time and then Freedom Debt Relief gets a big hunk before it goes to the bill. My husband wanted to get out but since I had signed up, I went on, so it's gonna be alright. That's on my part. I didn't understand. The reps are nice and I have no problem with them.

When I speak to anyone they are always helpful and clear. The only reason I did not give a 5 stars is because of the fees I pay to have this taken care of. I understand it cost money but one of my debt could have got paid off first but y'all chose to not and take your fee first. Now I have to do this another 2 years which I really do not want to do.

Went to FDR because I was overwhelmed with high interest rates and maxed out credit. Had lost job and needed relief. Couldn’t keep up with high payments even though I never was late or missed a payment, I was drowning. FDR structure me a plan that has me 1 payment from free of all the stress in less than 3 years.
