This has been a great program for me. Like I said in my title line, I should have done this years ago, but I was afraid and didn't know what the program was. I had some life experiences that just rocked me financially. I was sinking and very frustrated, constantly worrying about my finances and if I would be all right. This program has given me back some peace of mind. The program helps you if you follow the program and help the people who are trying to help you. What I mean by this is: ensuring you are able to make the program payment drafts, contact the program when you receive correspondence from your creditors, respond to the correspondence you receive from Freedom Debt Relief. Know that you will get phone calls from creditors at the start but the program gives you guidance on what to do and how to handle this.

The calls get less and less each month the program is working. Every one of the counselors/negotiators have been true professionals. My debt has been negotiated on many of my accounts and I am transitioning to the next phase of the program. I have been approved for a loan consolidation on my remaining debt to resolve this and start rebuilding my credit even sooner than I expected. I highly recommend this to anyone who is working and feels overwhelmed by credit card debt. But please remember, you have to help the program help you. If you do, I think you will feel so much better and will be debt in a few years. I hope this review will help those who were scared like I was to try this program. It has changed my life and I feel blessed to have found the program. Thank you.

I was so far in debt due to the economic situation and jobless rate that affected my roommate and fiancee. As the sole income in the household, it fell to me to meet the bills. During this period I was laid off and my car developed problems so severe, the repairs cost more than the car was worth. Freedom guided me through the process in a logical and straightforward manner. Credit card companies do not want you to get out of debt, and in many cases you have paid them off years ago. You are making interest payments. In the first year, I was a third of the way done, ahead of schedule, and able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Yes your credit score goes down, but it was going down with the amount of debit you had amassed. Stick to the program and follow what the Freedom staff tells you.

After many sleepless nights, I went online to see if there was any help I could receive with my debts. Freedom Debt popped up. I plugged my email address and phone number into their website. I received a call from a representative the very next day. I missed the call and was honestly afraid to return the call. The same representative called for several days and left messages. After listening to one of the last calls stating that she just needed to know if she should close my file, I finally called. I will always be grateful to her for her persistence. She was very informative and patient.

I decided to give it a try as I felt like I was drowning in debt. They were clear regarding any risks that can possibly occur. I placed all my debts with them and they came up with a monthly amount that they would save for me. Their website and their bank account website details exactly where my money is applied as well as when payments will be made towards any negotiated debt. I've been enrolled for nine months and 4 out of 11 creditors have settled. The fee that Freedom earns is only gained after they have successfully negotiated a debt. I had to default on my credit card payments due to financial difficulty and this has caused great shame and stress for me but I honestly feel that without Freedom Debt I would not have been able to resolve the ones that are now totally paid in full as agreed upon.

I have been very pleased with Freedom Financial. The only time I was a little disappointed was when I was asked to negotiate a settlement with one creditor and at the same time, was asked to approve a different settlement with a different creditor. Then I was told that I didn't have any funds left to cover the one that I negotiated. I asked for direction but received minimal or no direction in handling the creditor. I called three times to speak to a manager and have yet to receive a call back. It was only the last customer service representative that I spoke to that was able to give me a little bit more direction than the others. I'm hoping things go more smoothly from here on out.

I am on the fence with this company. They have negotiated 2 out of my 8 credit cards in 7 months, but I have read some of the horror stories of them not paying out the creditors. They offered a consolidation loan that I had become "eligible" for due to my diligence in making my monthly payment, but was not clear how much I would be paying and could possibly pay more a month if needed, so I declined. I am definitely going to try to get a confirmation of settlement from the creditors that they say they have negotiated with. I'll feel better about it when my creditor balance shows 0 and shows that Freedom is actually doing their job.

I was told they would send me an email in what turned out to be just almost a week before I had to answer the summons. I had written them twice asking them to send the email sooner as it was supposed to tell me what to expect or whatever, I wanted to be prepared. I never gotten a response from them until they sent the email a week before my court date. Good thing I decided to go it on my own.

I signed up with Freedom and had 5 debtors. They began negotiating with two of them and did reach a settlement, which I am still paying. I was sued by another creditor and they negotiated a settlement with them but made sure I was charged for their fee first. They increased my payment to them for the next five months by $680 and that puts a tremendous financial strain on me, but they don't care at all. You can contact your creditors on your own and they will negotiate a settlement with you for no fee. I found that out way too late. Also, they are not accredited with the Better Business Bureau which is very disconcerting. Watch out!!

    Response from Freedom Debt Relief

We are sorry that you have these concerns. We have reviewed your program and in the 1 months you have been enrolled in an estimated 36 month program we have successfully negotiated 3 of your enrolled accounts. Creditors can sue you and we explain that when you enroll in the program. If we need additional funds to accept a settlement we do encourage our clients to increase their drafts so we can secure the agreed upon settlement with the creditor. Lastly, you are correct, anyone can call and attempt to settle with their creditors, but we have been doing this for about 14 years and have relationships and data with almost all creditors, plus we often have additional leverage because we negotiate on a much larger scale than one individual. We currently have an "A" rating with the Northern California BBB office. We are concerned anytime one of our clients has any concerns, so we will have a senior Advocate from Customer Service contact you and review your program and any concerns you have.

I checked the checking account a few minutes ago and there is $250 in the account now. I have a payment next week to the bank that Freedom Debt Relief set up for me. The arrangement was to pay the bank $1100. Freedom Debt relief is changing me $610. I am going to pay the bank and FDR but I will not be able to continue the program due to lack of funds. When I looked at my bank account a couple of days ago the balance was zero so I thought there would not be funds to pay the bank but I was wrong because my deposit had not cleared.

I signed up with them to pay off my debts to increase my credit score. They called with the first agreement. To pay a company $100 a month out of the account that I was depositing $250 a month in. When the first payment went through to the company a couple of days later, my months deposit of $250 came to pay the next payment and FDR cleaned out the account leaving a zero balance and a payment scheduled in 7 days. I am trying to cancel but can not get a reply with them yet. I am a senior on social security and get my check at the first of the month. There is no way for me to deposit more money into the account to pay the payment.

As I read some of the complaints on this website, I know that I am not the only one who has been taken advantage of by Freedom Debt Relief and Consolidation Plus. I filed this complaint Case # ** with the Better Business Bureau, but nothing came of it.

Freedom Debt Relief (FDR) failed to negotiate with a creditor, resulting in court action against me and a hand off to a "sister company" (Consolidation Plus) for a large, high interest loan. I paid $x a week to Freedom Debt Relief (FDR) to handle debt consolidation on my behalf. I had concerns about one creditor, *, from the beginning and kept FDR apprised of written communication from them. I told FDR several months back, that * would not settle for less than x%. I was told by FDR not to communicate with the creditor or lawyers as they would handle all of that, but later I found out that FDR had not been communicating with *, who took me to court. I had never been to court and FDR told me not to worry, etc., that we would sit down with the judge and work something out. That is not what happened. FDR sent my file to a "sister company" which would provide a loan to FDR/me to pay off the creditor (and remaining creditors). This loan is a very high interest loan and both raised and extended my payments substantially. While I really cannot afford it, I had no choice. I could not pay off * within the next two years as they were requesting.

So I wonder about their "negotiations", their practices, how many other people find themselves switched off to the higher payments, higher interest loans, etc.? How are they making their money and by what means and practices? I question what is going on overall. I am asking for an investigation into FDR's practices for handling the more "difficult" cases.

I got with freedom debt November 2009, paying $240.00 a month. I had 3 accounts, they claim to have settle one account for $533 but never seen proof of that. By August 2010, I was being sued by JP Morgan Chase. Freedom debt claimed they have been communicating but they wasn't. By January 2011, Chase offered a settlement to dismiss the debt without prejudice. All I had to do was sign the paper work. I faxed a copy to Freedom Debt and asked should I sign it because at the time I didn't know what "without prejudice meant'. They said no, do not sign paper from Chase; let us take care of that. By March 2011, I was in court and the lawyer looked at me crazy asking me "why you didn't sign it? The debt was being dismiss!" I said "Freedom told not too sign it and they will take care of it."

Chase had already file to garnish my wages. By April 2011, my bank account was garnish. I was so mad because Freedom Debt only cared about getting the monthly payments. Once I left the court in March 2011, I sent Freedom Debt a written letter to inform them I was terminating my contract because they did not fulfill their obligation of working with Chase in my behalf and gave misleading advice. They lied about communication with Chase telling me they could never get anybody on the phone at the lawyers office for Chase. The lawyers from Chase told me they never heard from Freedom Debt at all. They made attempts to called Freedom but never successful.

I was in more debt once I got with Freedom Debt. Please just call the creditors yourself and make arraignments. Why pay someone do something that can be done by he or she. I have learned that lesson in life. Please do not use any debt relief services, especially Freedom Debt Relief. There is no relief with them, just more headaches and debts.

Went into FDR with a large amount of debt. Was told that they could take care of it in 3 years at $610.00 per month. With my ok, I went forward with this. Everything was going great until the end. After the 3 years of paying out $610.00, my automatic with stopped so I figured that it was over and everything was settled. Five months later, I get a bill from a creditor for $17,000 saying that they haven't received pay since Sept 2013. When I called FDR about my problem, the lady told me everything would be taken care of. They will call me back to let me know. They never did so I called them and they started blaming me saying that I stopped the $610 a month payment, then proceed to drop me from their program without any help unless I send them $2,000 to restart the program. You can do what FDR offers yourself! I enrolled in the FDR program for approximately 20k in debt. I ended up paying 10k (including fees) which is still significantly less than my debt but, everything they did, I could have done myself. I paid more in FDR fees that what my accounts settled for. They promised to work with the creditors to reach settlement offers. They did not do that. My creditors sent me the same settlement offers to FDR, so you can do this yourself and not pay the 21% in fees that they charge as well as additional monthly fees. One of my debts, I received a 1099-C which is a charge off by the creditor. FDR claimed they reached this settlement with their negotiations but in reality, my creditor just got tired and charged off the debt.

I was actually notified of the charge off before FDR and had to update FDR. They were not doing their due diligence. So, not only did FDR still charge me a 21% fee for the debt they supposedly negotiated a "charged off" for, but I also took about a 30% tax hit when I did my yearly taxes because the 1099-C is considered income which you did not initially pay taxes on. My advice, work with the creditors yourself. They would much rather work with you than go through an ongoing process with FDR.

I enrolled $50k in the program. Bear in mind they charge you 21% on that total amount throughout the period that you are with them. So that's $10.5k. They paid off most of them at about 35% of original amount (one, Discover, was at 80%). So that's $17.5k. Plus you get a 1099 from the credit card companies for the discharged debt of which you pay tax (so say 30% fed income tax and say 7% of state income of the $32.5k of discharged = $12k you pay in tax). So altogether you pay $40k (instead of the original $50k -- I actually paid more since a higher tax bracket than 30% and I'm in a state where income tax is 12.3%). What does not make it worth it is the "fee" they charge!! I would've been better off just paying the total to the cards themselves and keeping my credit or negotiated with the cards myself which I did on $25k worth and got them down to $6.25k. You really don't need Freedom Fin. and when you're done, they make it EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to stop the debits on your checking account etc. Stay away from them.

I joined FDR. I made all my payments on time. I started with a debt of $31000. After 36 months of payments they wanted me to join their sister company who in turn would loan me enough money to pay off the debt that was agreed upon with the credit card companies. After doing the math by joining them and paying their high interest rate it would have cost me over $39000 to pay off a $31000 debt. They settled with one of my credit cards. After they had an offer with Chase I made 19 payments out of 21 when they told me that Chase had pulled the account back and that they would need to wait until it went back into collections. In the meantime interest and late fees would be added. I talked to Chase myself and found out that they would stand by the agreement that was agreed upon. I only had to make 2 more payments and I was done. FDR never told me this.

I had talked to several people there and got several different answers. They had a copy of the agreement that they never sent to me. Everyone has different answers. They don't know much. They guess at some of their answers. I finally realized that I should have just contacted the credit card companies myself and talked to them. All three companies that I talked to all said the same thing. They would have worked with me on my debt. I wouldn't recommend Freedom Debt Relief to no one. They are one of the worst companies to deal with. Nobody there is on the same page. Called there once and talked with 7 different people and got 5 different answers.

I was drawn in by FDR's marketing and promises of COMPLETE competency with resolving my unsecured credit lines. FDR did NOT contact the creditors as promised and indicate an intent to settle. As a result I was sued by multiple creditors and received NO assistance from FDR. I finally had to declare bankruptcy to resolve all the issues that FDR had promised to resolve. FDR is a ripoff. You can accomplish more by directly contacting your creditors and negotiating a settlement. FDR takes your money and holds it in an account (collecting interest and deducting their fees) until they feel they have enough to settle one of your accounts. If a creditor gets tired of waiting, they can sue you and FDR will not be there to help... but will be there to take your money. FDR is taking advantage of people already in a difficult financial situation.

I started FDR in august of 2009, and paid 400 per month until present February 2014, YES almost 5 years!!! I have paid in over 19,000.00 to FDR, 5,000.00 of that amount was for customer fees. I settled only 5 of the 9 accounts I had with them. The remainder accounts were sent to me as 1099-C's So I had to claim 17000.00 on my tax return this year, yeah a huge hit in taxes! What really upset me was their lack of trying to negotiate debts in a timely manner. Basically my creditors gave up wanting to negotiate so they forgave the debt…. I could've filed bankruptcy for a few hundred dollar…. I wanted to pay back my debt but couldn't keep up with the rising APR's on my credit accounts. I feel somewhat lied to. They made sure to take all their "FEES" out first.. I paid 20% for my total amount owed in debt. Although they didn't try to settle 4 of my accounts they refuse to refund me the 20% on those accounts that were forgiven!! That amount is roughly $3400.00 I over paid for their services... I'm completely irate. I am allowing one last payment to them to satisfy the last account i have with them. After that point I will not allow them to take one more cent.

    Response from Freedom Debt Relief

I do apologize for the frustration. You are correct the debt was written off and because of that we do charge the fees associated with the account as stated in the contract. The reason for this is because the accounts were getting worked on for a settlement, they then wrote it off. Often times they may write it off because the account is enrolled with Freedom Debt Relief saving you more than 50%. I do apologize you were not satisfied with how fast we settled on the accounts but after reviewing your account I am showing you started back on 9/15/2010 and we reached your first settlement a month later on 10/25/2010. Settling your debt is more often a better option than filing bankruptcy and is not as damaging to your credit as bankruptcy is.

Been garnished, got that straight myself, sending them proof now to get status changed and sending proof on another account. Most of them treat you like you are a criminal, some are ok and helpful. I'm not good with names, I'm starting to keep a log of who I deal with and what they said and check to see if true because I told truth in everything on my end. I expect same token. Tried the Add_Delete@freedomdebtrelief.com I was told to go to let them know what I resolved to keep garnishments off me so I can make payments. Could not get there, would like for someone else to try and let me know if they could get there. Maybe something I'm not doing right. I will send them a letter tomorrow about accounts I have taken care of and let them know I am logging this.

It is hard to determine what your status is. You have to navigate thru different windows and why don't they have the add/delete link in portal? They have the extra donation section in there, maybe I will. I now officially off a court ordered payment plan that was raised while I was out on medical. I have had some settlements done. Think one is already done cannot prove it was saved in my computer. It got rained on and I know can't prove didn't happen. I hope they are reading these and trying to improve their rating. They send me e-mail, wanting to know how they are doing. I was raised if you can't say anything good don't say anything at all so I'm just writing down what I remember, try to forget bad communications it elevate my pain. On pain management the rest of my life from on job injury, the culprit of my contacting them in first place.

This is after the lady admitted to me that the customer service person misspoke, and she also said that I had enough in the account to pay off the account, at the time the customer service had told me. The other issue I have with this company is that I am being sued by one of my accounts. I was told that if I came up with 500.00 and they would speed the process to come up with a settlement. I called them Sept 2010 and was finished with my plan Feb 2013. They represent those in debt in a way that no other can. They handle the creditors as well as legal threats. I can truly say I am very pleased with the outcome. I was close to $30,000 in debt and when I was done with the program I was completely debt free. Not owing a single creditor.

Along with being in the plan I've learned to buy with cash determined to stay debt free. It also help one to see that we usually buy out of want not out of need because I made it for 3 years without one single credit card. My biggest advice to those who enroll in the plan MUST stick with it. You will do more harm than good if you don't stick with it. And I will say it get rough at times with the creditors calling but it will soon fade away because Freedom Debt representatives will be doing all the work for you. They will be your own personal spokes person. I can't thank them enough for freeing me up from debt. It feel's great. Thanks again Freedom Debt.

Early into the program, I was sued by a creditor and after being told when I signed up the FDR would pay for my attorney to represent me in court, they told me that was MY responsibility. So in a panic to attempt a lawsuit, I withdrew my retirement to pay toward the debt program to expedite settlements. After providing them an additional 10,000.00 on top of the 6,000.00 that I had already paid in, and being told on four different occasions that all my accounts had been settled and I would be receiving about 70.00 in return/overage that I had paid in, when I called to cancel and get out of the program, they now tell me I owe them 3000.00 more dollars.

Not only can they not explain why I have been told different things from different people, they cannot provide me with a break down of where all this money I paid in went and how it was spent. I see no end in sight. First I would be done in October, then it was November, now it May....I don't understand how people can be so irresponsible in their jobs and not have documentation to show what they do, but yet turn it around on the customer saying it is their fault and one customer service rep even said "You should have never run your debt up and you should have been more responsible." I have been with FDR for 2 years now. I had 6 accounts with a total of $16,000 in debt. In 2 years they have only gotten it down to 50%, so if you're looking for a quick turnaround time you will have to pour a lot of money at them. They don't tell you which debt they will work on first until it's already ready to be resolved, which can be good and bad. You don't get periodic updates about accounts and payments unless you miss one ;). The site information is not always updated and is very vague when it comes to where your account status really is. All in all I can say that it stops the annoying creditor calls and you can have a set payment for a while. But if you are not credit savvy and have no time to waste, I would suggest shopping around before making a decision to use them. Slow but effective.

I was referred to FDR by a "friend". There is a big difference between marketing and customer service. Marketing (Sales Reps). Marketing will tell you anything except the pitfalls of the plan. Then when something doesn't work right Customer Service is right there on the phone explaining where you went wrong. It doesn't matter that you were not told the whole story of the plan. These reps seemed to be reading from a script and not listening to anything that you as a customer have to say. There are quite a few good reviews for FDR and I am very glad to know that some people have been greatly helped. I find myself in worse financial straits than before. They are supposed to contact you when settlements have been made and update the website where it shows you the amount you have in your account, resolved and active negotiations, and your progress in becoming debt free. This information is not updated monthly, the amounts of savings, debts remaining, and even resolutions have not been accurate on my account.

When I contacted customer service, I was informed that I owed an additional $1500 that my statement did not show. I was treated as if I was the crazy one to be upset by this information. I was even disconnected at one point. I was contacted by a Vice President of Customer Service. He informed me that the website statement was inaccurate and I did, in fact, owe the additional $1500. Now it's months later. I continue to contact the agency to inform them of the website not being updated to show accurate information. I continue to make my monthly payments on time. I am now to the point where if I make another payment, I will be paying over my debt amount that shows on the website.

I have contacted the Vice President of customer service once again to obtain an answer to when I will be done and if a resolution to my final debt has been made. I have contacted him 3 times concerning this issue. Each time I contact him, he continues to give me different dates in which he will have an answer. He has not met this final date he gave me and now I have another automatic payment coming out of my account. I am over by several months of the initial date they have given me to be debt free. I am not sure why I am begging a company to do the services in which I have paid them. I have held up my end by making every single payment in time. I do not think it is too much to ask for a company to follow through with services.

If you are planning on joining this debt relief plan, please choose a different company. I have had nothing but a horrible experience. I would say you do become debt free, but I have yet to experience this. It's sad to think I have taken ownership for my debt, took steps to resolve the debt and pay back creditors, and the company I hired to help me is not.

They did exactly what they said they would do, that is, set up a program to eradicate my debt in 36 months while handling the communication with my creditors. What I found out after I completed the program is that my credit worthiness was restored rather quickly. That's an important thing to share with those considering debt solutions. If there is one thing that could have improved my experience, it would be communication related to milestones achieved during the program. For example, when I learned one of my creditors was near settlement, I asked when to expect another creditor to do the same. To my surprise, the other creditor in question had already settled. I hadn't been made aware of that. Besides this example, I was left to figure out some nuances during the course of the program that I felt should have been explained to me. In the end, however, the program was effective and worked very well for me. I'm glad I chose this course of action for my credit debt problems.

They helped reduce my debt by over $15,000 and never ever gave up hope of negotiating with the hardest clients until they got a settlement. If you are choking with debt and see no way out, listen to their rep. I finally did and it turned my life around. I am debt-free and learned a big lesson on spending and revolving credit. I have the highest regards for the team at Freedom Debt Relief. Thank you again.

I came to Freedom Financial in 2008. The economy was doing badly, and I had over $71,000 in credit card debt owed to 4 different accounts. Within 8 months, I had received an email of congratulations for my first account being settled for approximately 64% of its value. The next account was more aggressive, and about 6 months after my first settlement, I was being threatened with being dragged into court. I was even served papers. Your company was unable to help. At the time, I felt this was a failure on your part as I was looking to your company for help in my financial strife. As time went on, I learned that you are limited by laws in what you can do. What was a failure, however, was your lack of ability to give me advice or knowledge in regards to events like this. A little pre-warning and preparation could have prevented lots of problems for me. As it was, I was forced to get a loan in order to pay off the second account and stay out of court... At this point, your company began to fail even more in my case in regards to customer service.

You will recall that early on I had mentioned that your company sent me an email of congratulations with the first account settled and that I had to get a loan to settle my second account myself. There was no acknowledgement of that account being successfully settled. Since it had caused me quite a bit of stress, I really wanted some form of confirmation from somebody that, yes, this was done. But alas, no. Also, with the first account, I received an email and a phone call letting me know that I was now in a structured settlement deal so I would not have the option of deferring a payment if I had money issues one month.

I realize that with the second account, I had to be more involved because of the aggressive nature of the creditor. However, I felt as if I was out in the cold by myself. With no email, I had to call and check status. There was not even an email of congratulations when the second account was done. Then, in December of 2010, I attempted to defer a payment and was politely informed that I could not because I was in a structured settlement. That's fine, I said, how long have I been in this structured settlement? 6 months, I was told.

Where was the email? No notification at all! That account is settled and, again, no congratulatory email. Fast forward to December 2011 and I once again attempt to defer a payment. Again, I cannot because I am in a structured settlement. Again, no email notifying me. That was the fourth and final account. After that, I received congratulatory emails and a printed copy of all the settlement letters and a refund of money that I didn't know I had, which, by the way, information needs to be a little more freely given and almost pushed on your clients. Had I not asked the correct questions, you would have continued with the monthly draft removal from my checking even though all my debts were settled.

Your clients MUST be made aware of the I.R.S. and it's attitude towards "forgiven debt", I must tell you that was quite a shock. Overall... Your company delivered on its promise to me. I went from an astounding $71,000 worth of credit card debt to being debt-free in just over 3 and 1/2 years. Where the frustration lies for me is in the exchange of information. The feeling that I was alone in all that, then your company is there promising to be there with me... and then I am feeling alone in my fight again. A little stronger customer support maybe?

I just got an email this week congratulating me for finishing the program, the one I finished 5 years ago... They tell you to quit making payments to creditors, you fall delinquent (which I already was). They set up an account for you in which you deposit funds where part of the funds is a fee for them, then they haggle with the creditors on how much you can pay. All of my accounts except 1, started at 7k and ended at 13k. I was taken to court, sued, and FDR did not help me. I was on my own. Then a few months ago, I got a letter for a class action lawsuit stating that FDR is wrongfully collecting fees. Don't use them.

The long-term costs involved with participating in a program with Freedom Debt Relief are not justified. Becoming involved with other banks and financial entities that were required as part of the program presented a lot of hidden costs. But by far, the worst is the lack of information about charged-off amounts being reported as income on a 1099-C, and then being forced to pay about 50% tax to State and Federal on those amounts. The charged-off amounts were mostly for late fees, penalties, and interest that were charged 'after' becoming a program member, and could have been avoided by settling outstanding balances sooner. When asking FDR for assistance with all of the additional taxes from the 1099-C's (which I never saw because the forms were sent to FDR), I was told I would have to start a new program and pay even more money to FDR. I am sorry to say this but I looked to FDR to help me out of a difficult situation and instead, I feel like I was just taken advantage of.

I contacted FDR today and was highly dissatisfied when I found out that they are exceeding the 21% settlement fee as promised. Although the fee will balance in the end to equal 21%, they are YTD at 58% going to FDR fees instead of the settle to the debtor which is only at 42% of total payments. They have depleted all funds deposited made into the reserve savings account with crossroads to pay their fees first. By depleting the account and taking more than the 21% as agreed, they have been a contributing factor in jeopardizing the payment of the settlement to the debtor. As a debt management company, they should maintain enough funds in the reserve savings account to ensure the next payment on the settlement is able to be made on time.

As the client, I have had to suspend one month of my payment to plan for a funeral for my sister. Although I anticipated enough funds in the account to pay the settlement payment, the 58% that was taken out exceeds the 21% allowed for fees. As a debt management company, they should know better enough not to deplete the entire account especially when they are depleting it to pay themselves instead of the settlement debtor. I contacted them to inform them of this and they didn't care to assist. They kept telling me that if I cannot make my payment to the settlement, then I would negate the settlement terms.

So I told them I can make the settlement payment as agreed of $100, but couldn't pay the $240 in FDR fees. They told me that if I didn't pay both, it would violate the settlement with the debtor. I then asked if I can contact the debtor and arrange a payment with them directly to ensure I was not in default with the settlement. They told me I couldn't. They are the debt management company and are not willing to postpone their fees to honor the settlement agreement. I could understand if they didn't want to if they weren't getting their 21% already; however, they have already taken 58% YTD of the total settlement payments. This is an unacceptable business practice.

Working with Freedom Debt was overall not too bad. They did cut our monthly payment from $600 a month to $200, which helped us get caught up after a very hard year with family situations. The only downfall for us is one of the creditors that were submitted to the program, who we were told not to talk with and to stop paying, ended up taking us to court! So after the first 3 months, we were back to paying $400 a month total since we were paying Freedom and then also the judgment against us, which is still on my husband's credit report. The other creditors dealt with the program much better. Overall, we were mostly satisfied.

I was glad to have gotten my debts paid. But Freedom Financial caused me more stress than I was already under. My first settlement was paid late, hence sent back from the creditor, and I had to pay $800 more to settle on the debt. Freedom did nothing to help with this cost! This was Freedom's mistake, NOT mine! There were several other issues with my accounts. During my enrollment with Freedom, I came into a small sum of money. I paid Freedom a $12,000 chunk of money to help settle my debts and it was such a headache dealing with customer care people that didn't even know how to answer my questions or they didn't know what they were doing. I even had a care rep yell at me and he was very rude during the call.

I honestly would never refer my friends or family to this company after the mess I had to deal with on top of being stressed out about getting my bills paid off in a TIMELY manner. I am still upset that Freedom cost me an extra $800 for not paying my debtors on time, and not once did any supervisors offer to cover that cost since it was Freedom's fault, nor did any supervisors return calls to resolve the issues I had. They would call once and say they would call back to straighten everything out and then nothing. Honestly, if this is how this company works, I don't know how you are keeping customers. I was really very dissatisfied with how I was treated and how my money was handled.

This is to inform you about the horrible services or lack thereof from Freedom Debt Relief. They misrepresented my account and were negligent in following through to resolve my last and final debt. Also in reviewing and investigating this matter, it appears that one of their representatives fraudulently forged my husband's signature on a section of the contract. Since I have brought this information to their attention, they have done nothing to resolve this matter. They have not answered any of my questions to my satisfaction. They have also not provided me supporting documents or information to disprove my allegations. In March 2010, we went to Freedom Debt Relief for assistance. My husband experienced a partial layoff and we had a serious family illness. Unfortunately, that was all it took to create a financial crisis for our family.

Freedom was there to assure us that we could get through this and that they would work to completely eliminate our debt in approximately 3 to 3 1/2 years. We jumped in wholeheartedly wanting to get out from under where we were. We set a budget and agreed that we would place $875 in a trust account for Freedom to start working towards eliminating our debt. The contract indicated that the approximate end date was 8/13. The initial representative that I spoke to at Freedom assured me that it would be about 3 years; however, they always list an additional 6 months. This was fine, their initial speech about what they could do for us, and how informed and educated they seemed regarding debt and credit issues, gave us a more relaxed perspective. We saw a light at the end of the tunnel.

Through the course of them working to eliminate our debt, there were small little issues that I had encountered with Freedom and things that they would advise me. I had one account removed as they had done nothing on it either. I made payment arrangements on my own with that creditor but it sat for over a year of them doing nothing. My monthly draft changed to $794 a month as a result. Freedom being an authority on debt relief, I of course assumed that they were being on the up and up. They had an answer to everything. In investigating them a little more thoroughly, they are just a company that misleads and misinforms their customers.

Let's fast forward to December of 2012. Knowing that all but one account (Bank of America) had been resolved, I contacted Freedom Debt relief via email for a status update. Keep in mind their contract indicates that they will keep us reasonably informed. (They had never extended any type of information for this account.) I received an email a few days later and here is a clip of the email I received: Unfortunately, Bank of America is not willing to accept any offers from us on the account. Our only move at this point will be to wait them out until they start accepting offers from us again or until the account is transferred to a third party collection agency... This was in December, almost 3 years after we set up an account with Freedom Debt Relief.

In February of 2013, I contacted Bank of America regarding the account as I know I have about $8,000 in my trust account. I am advised by Bank of America that there had been no attempts or contact made by Freedom Debt Relief to work towards a settlement for this account. None! I immediately contacted Freedom Debt Relief to question this information as well as find out why they were dragging out another settlement on another one of my accounts. There were sufficient funds in my trust account to pay off the remaining balance. I requested to know the times, dates and names of the person that they had contacted at Bank of America. I was not given an answer to this. Instead, I was given this information once again: Unfortunately, Bank of America is not willing to accept any offers from us on the account. Our only move at this point will be to wait them out until they start accepting offers from us again or until the account is transferred to a third party collection agency.

Here is the most frustrating part. Bank of America had already discharged the account (1099c). The actual 1099c is dated on 12/31/13 (of course, the end of the year for tax purposes). Bank of America sent the actual intent to discharge in June of 2012. JUNE! Had Freedom Debt Relief really contacted Bank of America in December and February when I inquired as to the status, they would have known that this account was already a 1099c status. They did nothing on this account and let it sit for 3 years. Not only that. This account could have been done and closed out in July of 2012. The monthly amount that they draft for my trust account could have been ceased back then. My family could have been living a little easier had this happened. It is clear that Freedom did not work in my best interest. $794 a month may not be much to some but it would have helped us tremendously.

I finally received some answers. I spoke to a representative at Freedom by the name of Elbia (maybe Elvia). She confirmed that they let it sit for 3 years. She advised me that per their records in my file, there was an attempt made on 5/23/10 with Bank of America. There was not another attempt made until February of this year (2013). Only after I became more aggressive with them, did they finally actually contact Bank of America. By then, I had already done my own research and investigation on this matter. Bank of America confirmed to me that Freedom had not made any attempts to resolve the account. Bank of America discharged/wrote off the account in June of 2012. I find that funny how Bank of America advised me of this and yet Freedom was still telling me that Bank of America was not willing to accept offers. Freedom had absolutely no clue as to the status on the account and didn't contact them as they claimed.

I then dealt with a Lead Representative at Freedom by the name of Kim **. She never returned my call when she advised me that she would. She of course tried to back pedal Freedom's side of the story as I had requested to receive either a refund on the fees that they acquired as a result of this account, or proof that they spoke to Bank of America as they indicated. I wanted them to validate their side of the story. They would not give me that information. They continued to tell me that it was possible that it had not been documented in the file but that they had worked on the account. How can you state you worked on something and then not be able to provide proof? They did absolutely nothing to resolve this account and they did not deserve to retain their fee for this account.

Ms. ** has handled this in a very poor manner. She did not follow through as she said she would. Her return response never happens as she says it will. Service is beyond bad. No one can seem to give you any type of answers to your questions. They always try to duck and cover when you ask them a direct question. They also respond with completely different information than what you ask. Ms. ** was very rude and unprofessional. Her only response was that Freedom's contract was solid and basically too bad. They don't really care about providing the service that they promise. All they really care about is taking your money first and upfront. Once they have your money, forget any service or assistance.

To date, I have not yet received a return call from Ms. ** regarding a FORGED signature on my contract as well as an update regarding a refund of fees. Someone at Freedom fraudulently signed my husband's name on a section of their contract. This was determined only as a result of Ms. ** forwarding me their copy of the contract to review fees. The contract that I signed and faxed to Freedom does not have this signature. If you review the entire contract, you will clearly see that my husband's signature does not match that one signature. It is a blatant forgery. My friend who is an attorney and helping me with this matter has actually referred me to a friend of his who is a contract attorney.

I have tried to resolve this matter and spent pretty close to a month in dealing with Freedom to no avail. This is not acceptable to me. They prey on people who are desperate and in need of assistance and then basically screw them over for thousands of dollars. We went to Freedom and in good faith stuck to our side of the program. Freedom failed miserably with our final account. They did nothing to resolve it and got caught doing nothing about it. They did not work in good faith for their client/customer.

I am not being unreasonable and I am not asking for more than what is fair. It's really simple. Freedom did not provide the service on that account that they should have therefore do not deserve the fee they retained for it. I will continue to file a complaint and grievance with every available outlet regarding Freedom's business practices, lack of service, misrepresentation, fraud and forgery. This will include Media, BBB, Internet, etc. I already have been consulting with an attorney regarding this matter.

My concerns are: I wish they would have told me which credit card companies are very reluctant to settle. I was actually sued by a credit card company I listed with Freedom. This is a very black mark that is more harmful than the settling on credit cards. When I looked at my credit report afterwards, I noticed the numerous wrong addresses the credit reports had listed for me.

Freedom does a great job of selling the program to you. They do a great job of getting you started on saving to pay your debts. Where they lack heavily is in customer care. I called many times for advice on what to do regarding a creditor taking me to court. All they could say was they were not lawyers so could not give advice. This is not what I wanted to hear. I would not like their legal advice but one would think they could give experience advice, as I am sure this happens a lot. So don't be fooled into thinking your creditors will not take you to court because they will and Freedom Debt will not be there for you. So I ended up taking a loan and paying this problem off, which is what I should have done in the first place. Would I recommend this company? NO.

After two years working with FDR and $14,000 paid into it, they only had one account for $1400 settled, and one account in a "structured settlement". I had two other accounts left to settle, but one of those decided to sue me so I had to quit FDR and file for bankruptcy. I had received several notices from a lawyer and passed all of them onto FDR and FDR told me to "ignore them". Needless to say, that led to them suing me. As all of this was happening, I was wondering where all my money was going so I asked FDR for a detailed statement showing where every dollar went, and to my surprise, FDR had collected all of their fees, nearly $8k out of the $14k I had paid in. FDR said I would need to pay more if I wanted to settle the two remaining accounts.

Their scam is to get you started, have you pay for a while, settle one account, then start taking their fee upfront (they will tell you they don't do this when you sign up, but they do), and leaving nothing left of your monthly payment to pay off other accounts... In my case, they took all of their fees in 7 months and left nothing for the other creditors, and then left me in legal jeopardy... Needless to say, I feel it is a breach of contract on FDR 's part, and of course, they will not refund the fees they have basically stolen from me for services they never rendered.

FDR is a scam. My bankruptcy attorney has said many of his clients try these settlement companies first and usually end up in bankruptcy. Do yourself a favor, save your money, and spend it on a bankruptcy attorney. It's safer and cheaper. FDR is pretty much the same as Chapter bankruptcy, except you are still subject to being sued. If you file bankruptcy, the lawsuits stop, your monthly payment will be lower then what FDR charges, or if you're lucky, you might be able to file Chapter 7 and have it all discharged. Either way, both are safer and smarter options than FDR. FDR screwed me and my family, don't let it happen to you to. Talk to an attorney before making a decision to use FDR.

We decided this would be best route or bankruptcy was in our future. We were able to reduce our debt by considerable amount and faster than anticipated. They said 3 years but it was taken care of in about 1.5 years. Granted it is still affecting our credit but not for much longer and we can deal with that. While in AZ for the winter, I was watching the noon news one day and they were interviewing someone from Freedom Debt. I thought, they must be legitimate or the news station wouldn't be interviewing them. I called Freedom and was informed that we did qualify for their program. It was the best thing we have ever done. Yes, it was hard at times. We had to cut up our cards and they took out a payment from our checking account every month. But when we ran into problems, they helped us by letting us pay less for one month and making it up another month. One thing people do not realize, though, is that the money you have saved through Freedom, the government considers it as income. So, for a few years we had to pay the IRS, but boy, was it worth it. Freedom Debt Relief did exactly what they said they would do: Get rid of your credit card debt. On the average they saved us about fifty percent overall. The one thing I would warn you about is that the IRS will tax you on any money saved on credit card. If you have a bill for $7000 and Freedom Debt Relief got it down to $3500, the IRS would look at the other $3500 as income that you made. That was in no way Freedom Debt Relief’s fault. They warned us that this would happen. So overall after taxes you save about 40%. The one important thing they do is stop the banks from raising your debt. Once you sign up, there will be no more late fees or interest added to your bills.

Some 20 years ago, I got into a lot of trouble with about 8 credit cards. I had excellent credit and I had about $35000 to spend on the cards. I maxed out most of the cards and with interest was paying just the minimum amount each month on each card. After about 15-20 years of this, I realized I was trapped in debt. It was so easy to get into this. I’d go into a store, buy anything I wanted, slap down the plastic and walk out with just about anything. My interest each month was like 5 car payments. Finally, a friend told me about Freedom Financial. They explained the program, worked with my creditors, and got all my debt down to 1 manageable payment. I was a bit skeptical at first because I thought they would soak me with fees but I was soon surprised how little they asked for this lifesaving program.

After about 4 years, I finally was able to complete the program and pay off my debt. I don’t drink but I went out and had a beer to celebrate. You cannot believe the financial burden that was lifted from my shoulders. The Freedom Financial program gave me a new life. I learned my lesson with credit cards. Never again will I let myself get into that mess. The people I dealt with were so nice and professional. I was always kept up to date on everything and their 800 number always answered my questions. The initial relief came with the cessation of the harassing phone calls and letters. I could relax a little bit knowing they were being directed to and handled by professionals. The entire process took about 2 and a half to 3 years to become completely debt free and it was all completely worth it. I've become much more responsible and have learned that the lack of control is not worth the effort to recover from the damage done. My only concern, whether I was informed by FDR and didn't pay close attention or otherwise, is not being made explicitly aware of the tax repercussions of debt forgiveness. Being able to answer the phone again was a really nice feeling. If it was a creditor, we had been given instructions on what to tell them, from Freedom. The calls slacked off greatly. FDR informed me that I was done with my payments to Bank of America. However, a few months later, a collection company contacted me in regards to the debt. Apparently, per FDR, there was a "clerical" error in which a payment appeared to Bank of America as having not been made. Although FDR made the claim that this was indeed an error and provided me documentation to show all payments were made, BOA refuses to honor the initial settlement agreement. It seems that FDR does not have to capability to actually communicate with the businesses of the clients in order to rectify situations such as this.

I have spent years battling this, and I still do not know where this case stands. I keep waiting for more letters and calls from collector, not to mention that it continues to hurt my credit score. FDR assigned a person to my "issue", but other than this (this person is unable to accomplish anything since they cannot deal directly with BOA), FDR does not seem to have any action plan in place to resolve a situation such as this. I fulfilled my part of the agreement; I made all my required payments. It aggravates me greatly that FDR has been unable to rectify my situation.

Freedom Debt Relief is terrible with details. They will miss most of them and I assure you, it is to your detriment. I had a specific issue where a collector did not take the 1st of 14 payments but took 2-14, and Freedom Debt Relief's only suggestion to me was to re-negotiate the new balance minus the payments I had sent in for 14 months. Freedom Debt Relief has never finished the process with me, although I believe I have been finished with the program for years.

Freedom Debt Relief had no intention of stop drawing money out of my account. At the end, I had to close the account to get them to stop. I have no clue where Freedom Debt Relief has put my escrow balance. I called a total of 15 times over a period of 6 months; I do not think they know where it is either. In short, the program works, but do not expect Freedom Debt Relief to act as your friend, partner, etc. They will cause you misery as you go. I am pretty sure you can do this whole program without them. If I had to do it over, I would give it a go without them - far less hassle and you can work with a person you can trust, yourself.

Your advisors said oh they rarely submit to IRS for difference. That's a load of crap. As far as I can see, you should negotiate this stuff yourself and I could have used all the money I paid you upfront to put towards the taxes. What a waste of time and money you were. I worked with Freedom Debt Relief and was a little hesitant to begin the consolidation process. I had never missed a payment before, but even though I was sending a very high monthly payment to try to pay down my debt, it wasn't working. I weighed the pros and cons and decided that if I was serious about getting out of debt, then I needed help. It was a little stressful to receive calls from creditors, but being able to give Freedom's info helped. Knowing that I was doing something was better than feeling like I was never going to get out of debt.

I began putting the high monthly payment into my Freedom account and was able to finish the program even faster than the 3-year time estimate they had given me. I liked that there was flexibility in being able to pay more than my monthly minimum and also being able to change dates, etc. Also, because I was putting additional money into the account, I had more in there than what my settlement actually ended up being. Freedom returned the extra money in a timely manner and I had no issues with getting the automatic withdrawal to stop after I completed the program. There was no runaround during any point in the process.

I was very pleased with Freedom and as long as you know what to expect with debt settlement (creditor calls, temporarily lowering your rate scores, etc.), then I recommend that you "walk through the fire" to get yourself out of debt. I'm happy to say that I don't use credit cards anymore and I definitely owe that to Freedom Debt Relief.

Two other companies sued us and FDR settled both at 100%. So again, they didn't do anything to help us. They had no problem taking the money and were supposed to give us back money for not meeting their settlement agreement promise. I could have done what they did because they did nothing for us. I ended up filing bankruptcy after the mess FDR left us in, not to mention $7,000 poorer. They are not a good company and will steal your money. Good luck getting any of it back. Bankruptcy cost less than half of FDR's prices for doing nothing. Terrible company, don't fall for it.

Pay as much as possible in the beginning. Pay above the monthly payment. I wished I would have paid it off earlier. Visit your online account, both Freedom Debt Relief and the participating Global Bank. Lastly, stay on top of your paperwork and do not assume anything. I would like to touch on the pay off earlier suggestion. Your credit cards can still accrue interest before they are settled. If you are consistent managing your account, your experience will be less stressful.

I had a Discover card that would not deal with third party companies so I had to negotiate with them by myself. Although I did all of the negotiation, I still had to pay FF a percentage of the settlement. I had a Chase card that I was able to settle for less than what FF could and again, I still had to pay them a percentage. The only card they MAYBE helped with was Bank of America but at the tie Bank of America was required to settle at a certain percentage by the US Government. So to sum up again... do it yourself and save thousands of dollars.

Then in March of 2013, I received a notice from the creditor that was emailed to me via FDR with no explanation indicating that the creditor was writing off my debt. I had less than $1,000 to go before the original amount of the debt was paid off! I asked them what negotiations had been done and they said none. Within 2 minutes, I got an email congratulating me because they had settled the second debt for half!

I was on the phone with a rep at the time and asked what this was about. She said, "Oh that's an automatic email when we have write offs. Disregard it." So I said, "Oh, so you send these out as a lie?" She said yes. Meanwhile, I have over $12k in their account. This was 2 months ago. I'm still waiting. I asked for an itemized statement from inception - no reply, no response. Since they call themselves a financial service company, aren't there mandated standards that have to be met? Since they handle and deal with other people’s money? And giving me the wrong court dates to appear and allowing my accounts to go into default... isn't that a lack of fiduciary duty? I'd like to take these ** to court.
