I am happy with the program so far; but the only thing that I am VERY concerned about is the way that the money saved amt is calculated that goes to the IRS as income that I have to pay taxes on. If it's the amt of the creditor bill when I started the program, that's fine; but if it's the amt during the whole 3 yrs that they have piled on monthly interest rates... then I am NOT happy and I will fight this somehow with the IRS. Can you please let me know what the answer is to this question? Thank you.

I had the worst experience with Freedom Debt Relief. My account has been paid in full since Nov and I asked them to close it. They keep taking money out of my checking account and keep telling me that closing the account takes time. They didn't even settle all of my debt. The debt collectors just wrote it off and I had to pay Freedom to do nothing. I call every week and they say that they will stop taking my money but they do it anyway. I would not recommend them to anyone and have filed complaints.

Freedom debt relief promised to get rid of debt but after a year of taking $625 dollars a month $425 in non-refundable fees only settled one $1000 credit card for $700. $5000 in fees and still got sued by 3 creditors. Only one creditor said they had even spoken to FDR. Spoke to freedom and told them I received letters from 3 creditors to appear in court and they told me that they're not lawyers and could do nothing about lawsuits and offered me a loan for $45,000 dollars @ 22% to settle the debts. Told them to beat it and asked for refund of money. They told me I could only get money in escrow account about $2300 and said they would not refund fees because they settled one account and fees non-refundable. So bottom line is they lied and screwed me out of about $5000. Don't trust them, only cost $1000 to file bankruptcy and wiped out all debt about $60,000.

We are sorry to hear about your frustrations regarding how your program was handled. You were only in our program for 7 months from 11/08-6/09. In your contract all fees were explained and also stated that your creditors can take legal action on debt owed to them. Most people want to avoid filing Bankruptcy and we are an excellent option for many consumers.

We are 3 months into our debt relief and have settled 2 of 7 creditors. My thought was that by now we would have all creditors settled. I didn't realize that this would take this long. There have been a tremendous amount of phone calls from my creditors daily. Wasn't prepared for that. The first 2 creditors wanted to be paid on their settlements in a matter of months which is an issue because I have only paid in for a few months. I am hoping we can settle with our creditors shortly and get past this as soon as possible. Thank you.

My biggest complaint would be with the fact that I am paying a hefty fee for essentially ZERO work on Freedom Financials end. I do take full responsibility in not being overly thorough in the reading of the fees that I would end up paying but I felt I was misled and promised something that wasn't even remotely delivered. I have come to learn that my creditors are known to be hard to work with, yet I wasn't told this until I had accepted the loan. Individuals over the past three months have told me this multiple times, like it is common knowledge but NO ONE told me this during the first few months.

Apparently it is known that Chase doesn't deal with 3rd party and that I would have to call myself. I was NOT told that and if I was then, I would have called them myself and not even dealt with paying you $8000 to do NOTHING. My 2nd creditor is apparently known to not settle for much less than 25% off. So in the end I am actually paying MORE than my original debt due to the fees for Freedom Financials "work". Again I will be accountable for knowing that the fees did exist but $7000 sounded doable with the thought of someone going to bat FOR me to lower my balanced owed. Now it just seems like I paid Freedom Financial to sit there.

In short I would never recommend anyone to use this service. The customer service was only good when I called. All the promise of walking me through things and helping didn't happen. I called my own creditor and I don't have those skills. That's exactly what I thought I was paying this company to do. Basically paying $7000 for a loan on top of 23% interest with the added bonus of ruined credit. Thanks Freedom!

I tried to close my account with FFR in mid December, not because I was fully dissatisfied with FFR but as I decided it would better suit me to file bankruptcy. I told FFR to make the last payment to Discover and stop payments to everyone/anyone else and inquired exactly how much money they needed from me to make the last Discover payment and I made that one time payment. I also wanted to stop all my future auto drafts. I filled out the form for both of these and told them to pay Discover as soon as it cleared and to call me when this was done.

I didn't get a chance to follow up over the phone (as I'd knew I'd have to as they NEVER follow up with me) due to the holidays. When I did call them again in late January WHEN I GOT CHARGED MY AUTODRAFT that wasn't supposed to be charged because I cancelled them because it CLEARLY says in their system that I want to terminate with them, they hadn't been able to pay Discover because, gee, they paid a different creditor instead, contrary to what we agreed. I'm STILL working to get this resolved.

Management has been "reviewing my case" since January and each subsequent time I call, I have to re-explain this, because management has yet to call me. I sat on the phone for 90 minutes today with a 4th customer service person, not able to speak to a manager because they were in a meeting, then waited on hold even longer so she could read back to me the notes she put in the system to make sure they were correct this time. I made it clear today, again, that the other creditor wasn't supposed to be paid and that Discover needs to be. God only knows what 'case' they're reviewing because today's random lottery of customer assistant said, 'if you want us to get money back from the creditor that you didn't want paid, we have to do x, y and z, would you like to do that?' WHAT 'CASE' HAVE YOU BEEN REVIEWING FOR THE LAST MONTH THEN????

Since it was their mistake, which of course they won't admit to as the first person didn't put the notes in the system correctly, or most of the subsequent people for that matter, I would think that they would take the fault, fix the problem to make a happy customer and prevent a bad review, but no, they've been sitting on their butts for a month, 'reviewing my case' (which has been submitted twice), and continuing to not communicate with me.

CLEARLY, if I cancel my auto draft and make a one time payment which was JUST ENOUGH to pay Discover and there's a note in the system that that payment was supposed to go to Discover, wouldn't you agree that it's YOUR fault that Discover should have been paid, and YOU made a mistake and you should pay them that money out of your company's pocket and hope that YOU get back the payment you weren't supposed to make to the other creditor? Stop using my money for your mistakes and get off your behinds and actually do something to fix this issue.

I can't terminate with them until this is resolved, and did I mention that while they sit on their butts reviewing my case I have to make a 20 minutes phone call to them every month to get a form to keep filling out to stop each month's auto draft AND I KEEP GETTING CHARGED A MONTHLY FEE that they can't stop because it's who they bank with that charges it. Well maybe they should pay it since they're the ones taking their sweet time.

When I first got into this program they told me I would not have to worry about anything and my debt would be paid off within four years. Not even one year has gone by and I have American Express and discover suing me. When I called their advance collection department, all they could tell me was, "Well we can't can't give you legal advice, but can refer you to an attorney at a reasonable cost." After I'm done paying them, there is no money left to pay an attorney. Of my six credit cards they are paying off one. I pay them 805 dollars a month, less than 650 goes to the creditor and they pay themselves right away with the rest.

According to my calculations I will end up paying around the same amount I would have paid the credit card company without going through them. I could have negotiated with the credit card company myself and got a better deal without wrecking my good credit and going through the humiliation and agony of two lawsuits. Now with all the court fees and penalties I am more in debt than I was when I started this program. This has been a nightmare.

In a short amount of time, they resolved two of the three accounts, which I'm ecstatic about. However, this last one is taking a lot longer. Every time I call and ask for a status update, they tell me they are still actively negotiating with the creditor to come to a settlement. I'm well past the "hot zone," which is 25% of the owed amount in my account. I'm actually at 50%. I hope they get this last account settled.

I have been a client for 8 months. I wasn't given a welcome packet via mail or email ever. I finally got it from online and one day I was worried about my one account that was to be handled. Now, mind you I don't know when creditors are lying but I was following the rules to the best of my ability and I was scared because a creditor told me in no way shape or form would they work with a 3rd party.

On day one Laurie the obviously unhappy call center worker said to me, "Sir if you just want to terminate your service, then tell me." So I did some thinking and called back a little later and talked to Inka who was quite pleasant and efficient and who told me that I could call a creditor who was already settled and make the final payment. She even gave me the number and then I'd just have to call back after terminate my service and I would receive my entire bank balance returned to me.

So I do as she said and I call back to terminate my service and ** says, "Oh we need proof before we terminate your account." She says she cannot until there is proof of payment so I expressed my frustrations also understanding she is a supervisor. So next day I have my printout of proof and I talk to Jack who was also pleasant and very persistent to get me to stay. So Jack says "we already made the payment on the 2nd of January" when Inka said it would be made the 30th of January and Jack also says the company does not need proof of payment to the creditor and what ** said was just a tactic to get me to stay. He said "That's not completely fabricated." And I apologize if you think I'm unfair but I thought the creditors were the liars not FDR.

I signed up with Freedom Debt Relief in July 2014 and they worked with me to arrange a payment schedule that was affordable for me, and they are with you all the way. I was really surprised when they sent me an email on November 20, 2014 asking if I would accept a settlement from 1 of my 5 accounts. I thought WOW that was fast. They negotiated a debt on one card that was $17,731 down to $8,865. That saved me $8,866.

Only in the program 4 months and they already reached a settlement amount. I love working with them. They are there when you need them and I am so very grateful to them for helping me get out of debt. They email you monthly statements that show you a graph of how much you have in your account, where they are at in negotiations with the other debts so you always know how they are doing. I highly recommend FDR. They are professional, personal and great to work with.

We aren't done yet. I have only one debt that has reached a resolution agreement (Meriwest Credit Union). One that has filed a civil suit against me (American Express) and one that hasn't had any activity. I would assume as I am making a bona fide effort at resolving my debts through a recognized debt management program, that FDR, as my agent, should have forestalled any lawsuit in lieu as my negotiating agent. I signed a commitment to pay $408/month but I have been paying $500/month. That is more than I agreed to but all I can manage and still be able to eat. The costs of this lawsuit will only subtract from and delay my ability to settle my debts in a timely manner as I have not extra money at all. I lost everything in the 9/11 and 2008 financial disasters. I am trying to start a new career but it isn't returning any significant income yet (I hope it will). This lawsuit should not have happened and it is hampering my ability to resolve my debts.

By the time it finally got to the proper dept. I had 6 days before court. We had to agree to pay it ourselves and had them removed from my contact list. 2 - It took me about 2 months to finally get one of my creditors correct information. Was told that they were negotiation with them and my creditor had never been contacted. 3 - It seems that every time we have a problem and I call about it the customer service people say that they will take care of it they hardly ever make sure that the information gets passed to the proper people. I don't know if this is standard operating procedure but if it is, I'm in trouble. At this time I would not recommend FDR to anyone but I hope that I get proved wrong, but it is not looking good.

When I enrolled with this company I was told I would save up to 50% and possibly more on my settlements. What they fail to mention is that they may settle your account for x amount, but the fees that are associated will equal to over 60% of the money you contribute to your account. For example, I enrolled with 4 accounts, after 2 years none were settled. I was sued by two of the companies and ended up withdrawing those two accounts from the program. I represented myself negotiating, and was able to settle both of them, one in two payments, and one in 3. They also fail to tell you, they will completely drain your account of funds in order to pay themselves, way before they pay the creditors. They caused me to default on one settlement because they depleted my account of funds to pay them, and during a slow month of work was left with no money in my account.

They charge you every time you draft, change your draft date, and basically anything, even maintaining your account. They insist it's your money, and you can access it anytime, but there's zero transparency, and the next thing you know your account is depleted. The money end up going to the company, and you WILL pay more money in the long run. Settle the accounts on your own. Anything they are doing is nothing you can't do on your own in a couple phone calls. They claim to be professionals, but all they are, are a bunch of professional crooks. Very regrettable decision. P.S. Customer service will contradict themselves all the time, and will tell you one thing, then do another.

The large 1 offered a settlement of 1/3 my debt, but was passed over by Freedom saying I didn't have enough money in my account at the time. I did the following month, and the collection agency would've waited, but this deal is gone now as far as I know. The way the 1/4 amount of debt guidelines that Freedom has seems not to be, as I am past that and the accounts aren't settled. I am only 2 months into the program and have already had one account settled at 50%! I will say that making the choice to settle your debt in this manner can feel a little stressful (ok, a lot) but, once things get rolling it gets better. It is very important to fully understand the way this program works. You must be able to afford the monthly draft you agree to during the sign up. Lowering your draft amount or adjusting it will not help you achieve your goal. Make sure you understand how each settlement will be paid out (number of payments, draft dates and amount). You must be aware of the service charges and Freedom's percentage for each account settled. The events that could take place with filing your taxes even.

If you are going into this program thinking these people are working for free, you are wrong. Nothing is free in this world! You need to look at it this way... If your creditor settles for 50% and Freedom charges 21%... a 29% savings is better than no savings at all. There may be creditors that refuse to work anything out and you get no savings at all. Prepare yourself by putting a few bucks away when you can..$20 a month is $240 a year. Yes, I am new to this program, yes I have only completed 1 settlement and NO am not an employee of Freedom. I did my homework and decided this was the best program for me. I had never missed a payment to any of my creditors (too embarrassed to say how many of them there are). Nobody was calling my phone looking for payment but I was ready to sink.

Some people say they live paycheck to paycheck..I was living paycheck to paycheck and available credit to available credit. I had more money going out in minimum payments than it cost to run my entire home with all the upgrades (internet, satellite TV). Now I may have ruined my credit by taking this route, but it was going to be ruined anyways because I was way over my head. I am now able to put a little money away each month just in case there will be a problem in the future. I read pages and pages of the reviews on here and other sites and some of them scared me to death!

I say a little prayer each night that my faith in this company will stand strong and I won't have to eat crow in a future update. LOL! Do your homework, understand the program.. have patience and understanding...drive customer service crazy with calls if need be..(I do)... Follow up if you don't hear from them...check your client portal on a regular basis and stay aware of what is happening. I have yet to encounter anyone in customer service that was less than helpful. I Gave 4 stars because I am new to this program but, I am very satisfied so far.

You will think that after advertising that they have experience and years in the business, Freedom Debt Relief will know how the creditors behave and do. Well... I don't think so because two of my accounts went to a Law Firm and they took me to court. The best Freedom did was to negotiate a stipulated judgment with the firm. I got 80% on my Discover plus Freedom's 20% = 100% of the debt, it means I didn't safe anything. The other account, they didn't settle an amount, actually the only negotiation was to get another stipulated judgment and I can pay monthly to the Law Firm 100% of the debt.

So if I count their (Freedom) 20% that means that now I am paying 120% of the debt. I guess they know what they are doing. They got me in this dilemma. I could have negotiated with the companies directly before it got this bad, but they never notified me until it was too late. I went to their website and it only says going negotiations. I have contacted Freedom, asking them to waive their percentage (20%) and I have had not good results and very much I have been told that it is not going to happen.

We are sorry to hear about your frustrations. Unfortunately, creditors can sue you for the debt owed. When we are able to set up an agreement to pay back 100% of the debt, it does stop the creditor from pursuing further legal action and can stop fees and penalties from occurring. Your program is being reviewed and an Advocate will be contacting you before the close of business tomorrow to review everything in depth and answer any questions you have about your program or the negotiations process.

My experience with Freedom Debt Relief was truly amazing. Everybody that I worked with was honest and very helpful through my process. Before Freedom Debt I felt like I was in a dark hole with no light in sight.. But now I have that light in my sight and I will not go back to where I was again. Again I am truly grateful for all the help that I received from all that helped me through this process. I strongly recommend to my friends to contact Freedom Debt Relief if they are in the same situation that I was in.. You are Miracle Workers in my book...

When we joined the program in May my contact Steve seemed very genuine and concerned about my worries. I asked him MULTIPLE times if we can be sued for not paying the credit cards because this was a huge worry of mine. He assured me this cannot happen, that we are protected in Pa by the consumer act blah blah blah... Again he reassured me. He eased my nerves with stories of his wife and how she would be nervous as well... Two of my cards were settled. Then we come home from work and guess what? We are sued by Discover Card! I immediately call them and send my paperwork. The day before we receive this we ended up working out a settlement. It's supposed to be settled in March.

Then, we receive another summons, a lawsuit from Bank of America! I call and guess what "Steve ** no longer works there..." Oh and did I mention, I was NEVER told how they get paid! I did not know they receive a % of the settlement! Steve said when they call you to ask you about the settlement if it's ok they will ask you about their payment as well, which never happened as well. I'm totally disgusted that a company can take advantage of people when they are stressed out to begin with. I called and left the program last week. A hard lesson learned.

I originally contacted FDR 2 years ago. I spoke with a representative who explained the procedures to me and directed me to websites for more information. I entered into the agreement fully informed (I guess). I enrolled 6 credit cards with debt amounts ranging from $3000 to $14000. Relatively quickly the smallest 3 accounts were negotiated and settled with substantial savings. However, the 3 three largest accounts have become a problem. One account totaling more than $12000 was settled at face value! No negotiation? I had to appear in court twice over this account and ended up having to pay the full amount anyway. I can do bad all by myself. The largest account hasn't even been discussed yet. I am awaiting some kind of summons to be served on that one any day now.

I recently lost my second job and had to reduce the amount of my monthly draft. I explained in full detail in August what had happened and the representative who reduced the draft amount explained the ramifications very clearly. Since August I have received multiple phone calls from FDR asking me to make a large deposit into my draft account to make up the short fall. Each caller reminded me ad nauseam of the consequences of not making up the difference. I still don't understand why I have to repeat myself over and over again.

After the initial success, I have become disillusioned with FDR. After speaking with the reps recently, I am beginning to get a picture that they just don't get it from my end. I understand that FDR is in business to make a profit. (They certainly do when negotiating full-amount repayment!) However, I don't think they understand the other side of the phone call.....at least that's not the impression I was given. I have referred a family member to look elsewhere when asked about FDR. I am not even sure how much longer I can continue with FDR or where to go from here. I have read the other reviews from the satisfied customers....good for them. I guess FDR is just not for everybody.

We are sorry to hear about your frustrations. It is possible that creditors can take legal action on debts that are owed to them. Unfortunately, more funds to negotiate with these creditors is needed and we understand that coming up with those additional funds can be difficult. On average it can take 3-6 months to get your first settlement, but there are many variables that determine this. Remember the program is estimated to take 36 months to complete and as much as we try and minimize the creditor calls, they do have a right to attempt to collect on the debt. If you ever need any update on your program status or have any specific questions, you can always email our Customer Service team or call during regular business hours.

Overall, FDR did get our debt settled and all accounts paid off. However, the time frame and amount was a lot more than they told us it would be. We were told that our payment plan would take 3 years at a fixed monthly amount. About 10 months before we were supposed to be done with our payments, we were informed by FDR that our last creditor was finally settled and now we would have to pay for one more year. There was nothing that we could do at that time and were forced to pay about $7000 more than we were originally told. I learned that FDR had not settled with our last creditor until near the end of our plan at which time, they the creditor had added a bunch of late fees and interest, which FDR basically passed to us. I feel FDR did not do their job as promised, according to their contract. I would not recommend this process to anyone as I would contact the credit card companies and work out a payment plan on your own.

We are sorry if there was any misunderstanding on how our program works, the time frame it takes to complete our program is only an estimate and some creditors can be more aggressive and charge late fees and penalties, while you are in the program. It does look like even if added interest and penalties, FDR was able to save you money from what you originally owed.

I have been with FDR for about 2 1/2 months and have not been able to get anything I requested done. I have been begging to speak with someone in charge for over a week. I have called and asked. When a regular associate calls, I have asked them to connect me to someone in charge with no luck. I have emailed them and asked but so far no one in charge has called me.

When I first started the program I thought I was getting into a credit counseling service and did not realize what debt settlement was. I initially canceled the contract within three days (only having three days to cancel a contract without consequences should be a major red flag) but was talked into staying with it by the National Debt Relief person who actually enrolled me. I also cancelled with the bank (CTF) that they had set up my withdrawals to go to (More on this later).

At the time I was enrolled they suggested to me to change bank accounts since most of my bills were directly withdrawn from my account. I was told not to pay anymore on the bills enrolled and to give them as the contact person to my creditors. I did all of this. Of course by not paying my bills I started getting my credit slammed at least 8 times or more monthly and my debt amount kept rising but they told me to expect this to some degree. They don't express it to the degree it should be though in my opinion.

When I agreed to stay enrolled with them, I told them that the banking account information had changed and that I had canceled with CTF as well so it all needed to be reinstated. They took the information and said they would take care of it. I also told them I needed to have the welcome packet snail mailed because I did not have a printer or fax machine. They said it would be sent out by snail mail as well as email. I got the email one but could not download the packet. I kept getting a message that said the file was corrupted. I called and explained this and was told again that it would be mailed out. That was back in August and I still have not received it.

I then received an email telling me that they had settled a debt for me and I accepted it but told the guy that I still hadn't gotten the welcome packet to send back the paper work and they were supposed to be sending me a document to sign to allow them to take the money out. He said it would be okay and the packet and all would be here soon. It never came but finally I was able to print the packet out and send the paper work back to them. Another agent was able to set it up for me to e-sign the withdrawal document so everything was supposed to be taken care of. Keep in mind that I told each agent about the account number changing and each one quoted back the correct information to me.

I kept a watch on things and saw that no money had been taken from my account so the settlement was not getting paid. I started calling FDR in September to try and get it all straightened out and each time I had to go through the whole spiel about what was going on. I then had to wait for them to check everything only to be reassured it had been taken care of and if they needed anything else they would contact me. "Thank you for choosing FDR" and blah, blah, blah. Each paycheck I would wait a week and see if the money had come out and when it didn't I would call and it would be the same thing each time.

Finally I got an agent that really checked into it and he even got CTF on the phone with me and both assured me it was taken care of and if we need anything else.....I truly thought it was taken care of finally. We went over the bank account change again at this time and FDR was supposed to take care of that with CTF. It didn't happen. Of course this caused the first debt settlement to fall through but lo and behold if they didn't settle again with the same company but again no money was taken out so I called again.

This time I was told that I had not signed the document needed to take the money out and I told her it had been signed so she looks and finds it and gives me the same answer as the rest of them. I got one or two more calls of this nature and I finally asked to speak with someone in charge. No one was available. At this time I start getting phone calls and emails telling me I missed a payment so I call and explain everything again. I send an email explaining it.. I got phone calls daily and explained it to them. I asked them to have someone in charge look at my situation and call me back so we could get this solved. No one ever did. No one replied to my emails either.

We are now in November and I am done with it all. I want to cancel with them and I feel like I shouldn't have to pay them anything. I tried. Lord knows how hard I tried and now I give up. I told them this both by phone and by email. When I told them this over the phone (after I asked to speak with someone in charge and was told I would have to tell them what was going on - again - before they could do this), the girl was going to transfer me to the "correct" department but of course I was disconnected instead. What the heck am I supposed to do? My patience has ran out. It is not like they are doing this out of the goodness of their heart. They get paid well to do this for you and yet they can't straighten out something as simple as a bank draft? Nice people for sure but inept. There are many more examples of the ineptness but I have made this long enough.
