I don't feel that communication is happening between the consumer, bank, and Freedom. I'll give examples. I needed to defer a payment. Due to surgeries no job yet. Called Zach then called bank to defer. Next pay time 2 payments was deducted from account. Asked to just get out for now. Talked into staying. Zach said CAL bank defer month of May. I did that. Next pay time got an email saying payment didn't go thru. It has been very disappointing at the lack of understanding and follow through with communication. Feeling like I need to find someone else.

First of all, all those ppl who say they had a wonderful experience... I'm just going to have to assume that they are ok with creditors chasing them and their credit score being ruined. My warning is to watch out. They don't tell you that the IRS will tax you on any outstanding debts paid. We found out 3 years later and we are still paying. Every year we get a new charge from IRS for another debt that Freedom negotiated with.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts to ensure consumers are making the best decisions possible when looking for relief to a financial hardship. Depending on the condition of someone's credit report at the time of enrollment, a debt settlement program may have adverse impacts on someone's credit report and credit score. Our goal is to resolve your debt for the lowest cost, in the shortest period, without declaring bankruptcy.

There are also federal and state laws designed to protect you from collection harassment. However, most of our clients experience some collection phone calls. Freedom Debt Relief's goal is to get your creditors calling us and not you.

You are also correct that you will owe taxes on your forgiven debt. The IRS considers a forgiven debt as taxable income, so at the end of the year, they will expect taxes to be paid on the settlement. The IRS, however, has a form (Form 982) available for certain hardship situations that may exempt you from this tax. Please contact a tax advisor to discuss this issue further.

If you visit the Freedom Debt Relief website, we have an FAQ page that provides additional information concerning these and several other topics around using a debt reduction program.

Thank you again for sharing your thoughts and feel free to contact us anytime at 1(800) 655-6303 or by email at support@freedomdebtrelief.com if you have any questions.

I was served papers from my local court system regarding one of the creditors that was included in my debt plan. I called Freedom Debt Relief then faxed the documents to them. A few days later, they had worked out a deal that made sense to them and to me, I approved it and we settled out of court for a lot less than what was owed and I will have it paid off in less than a year. They always have my back and put my mind at ease. No worries here. You can also go online and sign into your account and check the activity on your account. I'm very thankful for Freedom Debt Relief and their professional staff for always being there for me!

I appreciate the help to eliminate the credit card debt I had amassed over the years. I had talked with other companies that help eliminate debt but none would commit to the amount we owed which wouldn't help me completely. Freedom Debt Relief was the only one that agreed to take on the whole amount and help us to eliminate the debt.

I wasn't aware that you have to settle each credit card one at a time, pay it off completely before you settle another credit card. I just thought that you would be able to make agreements with each creditor and then make smaller guaranteed payments.

I found this company after seeking help consolidating all my debt. I am getting married, starting a family and a business so I wanted all my debt consolidated so I could pay it off faster. After 2 months in the program I realized I made a huge mistake, my credit score tables almost 200 points, no debt was negotiated even though the money was there. I had creditors call me 40+ times a day that I finally had to get a new cell number. I found a new company who is non-profit and much more legit. I would not recommend this company for large debts like mine $70k+. I could see this working on small credit card debts with maximum credit at $1k-2k each. But in my case this company sucks.

This company is such a joke! They tell you all kinds of good things to get you to enroll in their program and are very pushy in doing so. They do tell you that your credit score will drop a little while they work on "negotiations." My credit score was smashed within 1 month of being in the program. They never worked out any negotiation like they said they would. When I enrolled, I gave them all of my accounts and account numbers, but somehow they had the WRONG information! It is nearly impossible to call and speak with a person. You constantly get automated recordings and when you finally do get through to speak to a human that person isn't able to help you and they have to transfer you to another person. You end up being transferred at least times during 1 call.

Needless to say, I ended my contract with this company. But this has also turned into a huge problem. They give you the money back that is in your account. Well they are suppose to. They tried to deposit my money into the WRONG bank account, an old account of mine that had been closed! Freedom was already aware months ago that this account was closed. So then they said that they would send a paper check in the mail. They verified all of my information with me. They had all the correct information on file, but somehow still sent my check to my old address!!! Now the check is being returned to Freedom's bank, Crossroads. This has been going on for weeks. I can't get my money back from this company!! They are a huge scam. They don't follow through on anything! Your credit take a nose dive immediately and the creditors then call you harassing you non-stop. Stay far away from this company.

Yes, these reviews have been helpful- both the positives and the negatives. I contacted Freedom Debt Relief in July 2015. The customer service representatives were friendly. In March 2016, they called me about the Consolidation Plus loan and I was happy that I qualified... and I would be paying LESS per month. I was shocked because I was told I had already enrolled in the Consolidation loan that I requested. So, thanks to Freedom, my monthly payment is MORE-from a low of $636 to a high of $795. As other reviewers said- this contract was signed online. Red flag 1- the amount is higher not lower. Red flag 2- immediate response is needed online. Once I indicated that I could not pay the higher monthly amount, the phone line went dead. I sent an e-mail asking if they are continuing with the old contract? Or if they were canceling my contract altogether? No response from Freedom.

I sent three more e-mails requesting a summary of debts consolidated-amount of debt payments? Amount owed to each creditor? No response from Freedom. Thanks to you Freedom Now, I have a court case, a debt collector case, No idea of what I owe and my credit score has CRASHED!! And Freedom debited $4,452 from my account to pay themselves and maybe somebody else. For the first time In my life, now thanks to Freedom... I have late charges and past due payments AND In 7 months my credit score went from Good to Poor.

Freedom Debt Relief is friendly and helpful in the beginning to get you to sign. They maybe good for some clients. But in my case and for many of the reviewers, they cannot help.. When they cannot help, they should let you know that you and they are not the right fit. This should be done initially-before the client has lost so much money. These are the ones most in need of the help. All of these negative reviews are not wrong or a case of misunderstanding!! Where there is smoke... This happened to me and Alice of NC and... this is Freedom Debt Relief primary method of operation.

UPDATE ON 06/28/2016: Today, I received a termination EMAIL from Freedom Debt Relief Program that BARBARA FROM SHARK TANK advertises as a GOOD program. It is indeed a BAD program. First of all, the letter was received after 3 emails were sent to the company and about 6 weeks after Bank America had sent my account to a lawyer for collection and litigation. The email was received about 8 weeks after Chase had written me a letter saying they do not deal with companies such as Freedom Debt Relief. The e-mail continues... "Thank you for choosing our firm to serve you." Is serving you mean - Now, you have lawsuits and court summons. Now, thanks to Freedom Financial, you have a credit score that eroded from a good to a poor rating.

The email ended with "We hope your debt resolves to your satisfaction..." Thanks to Freedom, my debt is now MORE than the original amount. I do not know how much more because I have no final accounting from Freedom Debt Relief - how much they paid each creditor? Which creditors they did not pay? Which creditors refused to deal with them? Which creditor they did pay and how much is still owed?

Today, by phone, agent E said they did not pay off any credit cards. (Three months ago I was told by Frank that they had paid off Discover.) Now, I am celebrating a one-year anniversary with over $5,000 (636 X 9) paid to Crossroads and Freedom Debt Relief and only three small payments made to Discover according to agent E. No, the debt was not resolved to my satisfaction!! After one year anniversary, agent Eli says that I will receive a refund of 87 cents. This type accounting is HILARIOUS. Since I am not laughing, I must say it is condescending at best and this was their attempt to solve the problem!! And I still owe ALL my creditors except a few hundred dollars they paid Discover. (Freedom had said by phone 3 months earlier that this Discover Card was paid off.)

After paying Freedom and Crossroad Technology for NINE MONTHS, I AM NOW IN MORE DEBT than when I entered the program. And I do not know how much I owe my debtors because Freedom refuses to give an accurate accounting -- just a FACT SHEET they promise to FINALLY send me by mail. Finally, Freedom wrote "We hope the best for your financial future." Really? You are the reason my credit score dropped from good to poor. You are the reason I have no idea of what I owe my creditors. (All statements go to your company.) You are the reason I have late payments added and you are the reason I have two lawsuits pending.

For 20 years, I have had a GOOD credit score -and- thanks to you Freedom, for the first time ever- after 1 year, my score is POOR. I can attest to the fact that most of the negative and positive reviews are correct. Positive (Freedom is nice and helpful in the beginning). I even wrote a review saying they were nice, helpful, patient and understanding - IN THE BEGINNING. They even help you with the computer input. In the Welcome Packet they never mention the 21% fee so at first, I did not know what the reviewers were talking about. They told me about it TODAY --- one anniversary year later.

As most negative reviewers stated... at first, they say you don't read correctly or they mailed it to you or your signature is on the document. Many clients would not enroll if they knew the charge was 21%!! I know I would have refrained from enrolling just like I did when I refused to SIGN $150 dollars more per month (FROM $636 TO $795). My SS check is only $1209 per month. When I said "NO," YOU told me it would be LESS, Freedom stop communicating with me!! REMEMBER THIS SIGNATURE IS COMPUTER GENERATED AND THUS EASY TO MANIPULATE!! FDR preys on the most vulnerable. Better Business Bureau should reduce their ratings!! Barbara from Shark Tank does not know their underhand practices!!!

So I signed up in 7/2015. Circumstances changed so in 3/2016 I attempted to pay off my debt and close my account. What I discovered in spite of what they say they grabbed my money to pay their fees first and failed to negotiate with my remaining creditors. I removed the three accounts remaining from their program. I left the three they negotiated. The three I removed I negotiated in 2 days directly and then I went back to them. Repeated phone calls. Their systems were being upgraded. They screwed everything up. I kept calling.

Finally I got them to take my money. 23 days later I called again. They paid off one account. Another they said wouldn't work with them and the third was never submitted for payoff. I called the account they said was not working with them. They said NO ATTEMPT HAD BEEN MADE TO PAY OFF THE DEBT! So to sum it up they sat on my 5500 deposit, did nothing, did not contact me and still expect me to pay their fees even though now they are holding money with no intention of paying off my debt. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. THEIR FEES ARE ROBBERY!!!

We started using this service back in 2012 and it has been the worst experience ever. They are supposed to be helping us and now we find they are taking advantage of us and are now unwilling to even try to resolve the issue. When we call they treat us like we are criminals and are rude to us. They are now charging us for accounts that have been written off and have done so since 2013. Then when I ask why they have not handled the accounts and how they didn't know they were charged off they claim we messed up. When we did everything we were supposed to do for the arrangements. So now I have been paying them for 3 years on accounts that I shouldn't need to be paying them for.

So now I have requested information on all detailed information on how our money has been used and dispersed and they get defensive and demand stuff from us first. I truly believe at this point they are stealing from us yet no one will discuss the issue with us. I would advise anyone who considers this company to run as fast as you can.

All I can say is watch out with this place, especially the fees. Read everything VERY VERY carefully. What you will probably gloss over when you are reading the paperwork is that they charge 21% of the amount that you initially sign with when you accept a settlement (not the settlement amount), and they take it all out at once. So, like in my case, I had a $7500 bill that they settled for $2700. After the first payment was taken out of my account another payment was taken out, their fee, which was $1579! $200 went to the bill and $1579 went to them.

So, basically my account was drained. I had to make adjustments to my account because the $600 a month payment was killing me, so I had them change it to $300 (a few months prior to the settlement), as a temporary three month thing. I was told when I changed it that as long as I called before it went back up to $600 I could keep the $300 amount if it was easier for me, or I could even lower it more if I needed to. After two months I called to make that payment permanent only to find out if I did I would lose my settlement because it was based on the $600 a month. So I had to withdraw from the program. The representative did not care about my circumstances and had the attitude of “oh well, either go back to $600 or lose your settlement, or withdraw”. Now I am out another $1579 because they keep the fee. Very disappointing.

The biggest problem I have is that they do not EVER disclose that when you are setting this stuff up. They never once said to me that the fees are taken out when a settlement is made, after the first payment, and it’s taken out all at once, and oh, btw, it’s based on the amount that was submitted when you first sign up not the settlement amount. I never imagined that they would take payment like that, and they gloss over stuff like that, it was never discussed with me, I never would have signed on. So just be careful if you decide to do this and ask how it all works and make sure they explain everything to you.

I have been in this program for over four years now, and I only wish I never did it. When you call the first time your emotions are that of fear and anguish that you got so far over your head in debt that no matter what they say they told you it truly did not compute at the time. I am all finished except for one cc, and between the fees and the settlement I am ending up paying the whole amount anyway. They of course take their fees off the top, and the percentage is as much as a cc. When you call they are rude and only tell you what is on the computer, nothing else. One person tells you one thing and another tells you something else, so it seems that an error was made but who cares, you have to keep paying... BEWARE of this company...

They want to change my APR to 5% now instead of the 29% that I am currently on.

If they would just cease all calls to me and my family members looking for me or if FDR would notify them would be great. This is embarrassing when I have a family member telling me the received a call at their home for me in another city. There is no one listed on my info with One Main who say they skip trace. They contact my husband who did not know I even had a loan. Thanks One Main. This could have costed me marriage issues. I pray they don't contact my job to speak with my boss or the HR department. I have been using FDR for about a year and paying them $775 per month to settle with my pending creditors. About half of that is being used to pay creditors and $300 is going to FDR for fees pulled monthly. The total FDR claims they save you is not correct, here is the actual truth: FDR charges 21% of "total" of bills being settled, not a percentage of the amount saved like told to me initially. For example, if you owe $100,000 to creditors, you will now owe an additional $21,000 to FDR. If FDR settles the $100,000 with creditors for a 40% discount, your FDR dashboard will graph a savings of an impressive $40,000 dollars, but this does not include FDR fees. In this case FDR actually saved the consumer $19,000 after they take their fees from you.

What the consumer really should know in the beginning (not in the small print), to consider before letting all their bills going delinquent and crashing their credit score. I was told the percentage was being taken from the savings amount and not the entire amount. Lastly, FDR will focus on the larger accounts because it raises them the largest revenue. I have had 2 smaller credit cards that could have been easily settled by FDR go to collections because they haven't been worked.

In my opinion, FDR is a good program for certain debts, they just need to train their staff to be forthcoming on pros, cons and clear on fees.

I am sorry there was any confusion about our fees, but we cover our fees in the sale call, we also outline them in our contract and review them again in our welcome call. Your example is a good one and still shows that with our fees we still save clients thousands of dollars, get them out of debt much faster and once out of debt the impact to their credit can start to improve. There are several variables we review when determining who to settle with first. our objective is to settle your accounts as quickly as possible and save you as much money as we can. We will have someone contact you to review your program in detail and make sure everything is clear.

This program is a complete waste of time and money. Like a lot of people who enrolled in the program, I had a significant amount of debt and although was able to make my payments I felt like there was no hope in sight. I was advised to stop paying my bills which I did. What I wasn't told is that people would be knocking at my door serving me papers to appear to court. I also wasn't told that I would be paying an enormous fee for their service. After paying $600/month to this company faithfully each month and still not getting anywhere I hit rock bottom. I ended up asking for some help from my family. We called the company and immediately asked them to dis-enroll. We were assured I would be getting refunded the amount of money in my special purpose account less fees. What a coincidence, the amount of "fees" I owe equaled the amount in my account.

I have called several times to dispute these fees and each time I call I get a different reason. I have sent two emails so with no response. This company should be ashamed of themselves. Oh sure they are super nice to you when you call to enroll and assure you everything will be okay, meanwhile they're laughing all the way to the bank. By the way, with help from my family I was able to negotiate with all of my credit card company on my own. I paid a fraction without any fees. I suppose the company will write a rebuttal to this review but please don't let them fool you. There are other ways to get out of the situation you are in.

I'm not one to review companies. However, with the endless issues I have had dealing with this company (who I turned to for help) I feel it necessary to warn others in the same situation. It was working well for me at first and then I got served papers to appear in court. FDR flat out refused to help me through the situation (yet continuously took my money each month). I was able to find resolution through using my own lawyer and talking to the creditor (who told me the only reason they were turning to legal action was due to no communication from FDR). I stuck with the program still.

Months later I requested to delay my payment draft by one day. I was told it was all good and then they took the money out anyway and I ended up being charged an overdraw fee by my bank (later reimbursed by FDR)... Still trying to make it work I continued in the program. Weeks later my FDR account was closed out, due to an error on behalf of FDR, in the middle of paying a structured settlement, which is now in jeopardy (although FDR didn't make the arranged payments due to closing my account, they sure did withdraw a little over $700 in fees to pay themselves for the settlement???)

I am now waiting to see if the structured settlement can be salvaged, although customer service says it could take 30 days before I hear anything. Customer service does not attempt to help or resolve situations, it's more like a "hmm, what can you do" kind of reaction. I am so disappointed that I was so disillusioned by this company that I thought was here to help people resolve debt issues. I will be closing my account once this issue is sorted... not that FDR cares (I told customer service my plans to shut the account and got zero reaction). Don't be fooled by these frauds... Don't make the mistake I made.

At first everything was good. As time went on very few things were happening except phone calls. They don't want you to know that you can actually negotiate with the creditors. Maurice actually negotiated a $16000 settlement when I got a letter from the same creditor negotiating a $12,800 with me. But I still had to pay a $4600 settlement fee. It makes you wonder what they actually settle. They stretch out the time saying they are negotiating. They negotiate with the smaller creditors first saying they are easier to settle with. But the truth is the longer the negotiation the more interest on the accounts adds up the more money they will make between settlement fees and on interest.

I cancelled my participation with the program because I decided it was not the right fit for me and my needs. As outlined in the contract, I sent them written notice via email on 3/22. I asked for confirmation of receipt and did not hear back. I contacted my account rep first via phone and we exchanged voice mails. She suggested emailing her because it was hard to get in contact on the phone. I forwarded her my cancellation email explaining that I was hoping she could confirm that the cancellation went through. Her response was very short: "If you emailed them and mailed them to cancel you then they would have cancelled you out. There is no way for me to look anything up if you cancelled and are no longer an enrolled client."

I found that this was not helpful at all, but understood she is probably charged with sales and maintenance. I then called the phone number listed on the contract. The first person I spoke with said that I probably hadn't heard back since they had just received it today. I told him I had sent it on 3/22. He said that their process was to do the cancellations over the phone. I tried to point out that their contract actually says the opposite: that they want written notice. He kept talking over me refusing to listen or address the issue. I was transferred to someone in the sales who was helpful and did ensure that no money would be removed from my account. The first person I talked would not acknowledge that their contract did require written notice and they could at their discretion accept verbal cancellation. It makes me wonder if this is a way they try to get money even if cancelled in writing.

Updated on 04/06/2016: After being assured that no money would be taken out of my account and also receiving email confirmation of cancellation, imagine when I logged on to my bank account today and saw that the indeed money was withdrawn. When I called the person was helpful and apologetic, however that does not fix the fact that he said it would take 8 days to get the money back. This is totally unacceptable.

I just started the program in October so I am early on in the process. My biggest complaint is that recently I have run into some CSRs that aren't good about following up. I received an email from a Simone who told me that FDR was getting ready to negotiate on my Chase account and I needed to sign the attached power of attorney. I don't have a Chase account. I sent an email back to Simone and told her that I didn't have a Chase account and that I needed to hear from her.

After not hearing anything from Simone, I called customer service and spoke to a nice guy who confirmed that I did not have a Chase account and that he would follow up to find out what happened. That didn't happen so I called customer service again the next day. Confirmed I didn't have a Chase account and that she would get the paperwork corrected and forwarded to me. Still nothing. Finally, I called again and spoke to Anthony. Thank god for Anthony. He told me that he would get the paperwork straightened out and forwarded to me. He did it immediately. My desire would be for customer service representatives to be more available and follow through when they say they are going to.

Like many, I went to a debt relief company because I thought it would be easier to let the experts with the leverage help me settle the debt to several credit cards (over 35000) when I ran into financial difficulties and lost my job. The process was easy to sign up and gave us a false sense of security that they were going to do the job. They claimed that they could get around 50% off the cards and even though they had a fee, it would be far less than what we owed and hopefully get out in 3 years. FF said part of the process is to not talk to the CC, don't answer the phone, at the same time start to save in an account which they will use to leverage with the CC to get a reduction. Instead, they failed on so many levels.

The first card which was the largest debtor could only be brought down to 80% so add their 20% and it was a wash. This took almost 5 months and they failed to contact us about this. I had to call them! Meanwhile they did not even try to contact the other CC companies. By this time, the CC turned it over to a lawyer and wants me to appear in court, which means unless I accept the 80% I would have to get a lawyer to defend me. Instead of accepting this, I called the lawyers myself and after 2 conversation was able to reduce the debt by 50% - no additional interest and no fee to Freedom Financial.

I called FF and had this card removed from the agreement. Then I gave them 2 weeks to come to an agreement with the other cards - again nothing. So I called the 2 cards myself and in both cases was able to reduce the debt by 50%, no additional interest and no fee. Now I do admit that not all CC are the same and some were easier to negotiate than others and in the case of one, I need to come up with the 50% at this time. The card was not too big so I will do it.

Recommendation: don't waste your time and aggravation with a debt relief company. Call the CC company yourself. Many are willing to work with consumers in financial hardship and at least get some of the money rather than have to write it off. This will also stop the phone calls to your home at all hours and start your credit recovery as once they are resolved, your credit to debt ratio changes and will start to improve.

I understand your concerns, but our settlement rates are only an estimate, creditors do have the right to take legal action and you can contact your creditors yourself. Often times, when we get an initial agreement, we can go back and renegotiate better terms. We are sorry that our program was not a fit for you.

I am at the conclusion of my program with FDR and would never recommend them to anyone. The salesman was of course nice and pleasant, telling you what you need to hear. Overall my debt reduction was minimal when you figure out their hidden fees. Make sure you ask them their fees for the settlement before you agree. I found that for the most part they were so high the settlement was only 30% or so. I settled 2 accounts on my own due to the slow-moving program and got a better settlement, without fees, just talking to them myself. Also their communication has been terrible the past year. I have sent correspondence to their CS dept. 3-4 times the past 8 months or so, telling them to remove an account I already settled on my own with NO return response.

Also I was told that companies MAY send a 1099 for cancelled debt, but I was insolvent so it wouldn't matter. Well EVERYONE has sent a 1099 - remember that 30% savings, that's all gone. In my trustful ignorance listening to my FDR rep, I did nothing and just got a $2,400 bill from my 2014 tax return due to those 1099 I ignored, plus now interest and penalties - who knows what I'll end up paying the IRS.

Terrible experience with FDR. My credit is terrible since they make you stop paying and ignore debtors. I recommend you work it out. This was a terrible company and program for me. They still have a final account on my file I have told them 3 times to remove because I had already settled it on my own, but my account shows FDR is in progress working on a settlement. What happened to you can remove accounts at any time? Every time I tried to have an account removed I had confrontation, and in one case was told NO, we have a settlement in place. I was so disappointed in FDR because they didn't do for me what I thought they would do. It was so irritating for me to get letters and phone calls from my creditors all the time, and FDR didn't do anything when I informed them about that. Every time I received a letter from my creditors, I would scan it and send it to at least 11 employees at FDR asking them to communicate with the creditors but they never did. I also asked FDR to forward documentation to me as proof that they communicated with my creditors, but no one even bothered. It took a lawsuit filed against me by one of my creditors to get FDR to reach out to that creditor and then their way of negotiating was done very poorly.

To avoid any legal procedures, I instructed FDR to pay off that creditor completely and pay off a small loan with another creditor and pay on the second account I had with that creditor. They didn't even do a good job with that. In the end, I ended up paying off the first creditor myself. After not being able to communicate with the second creditor, I resigned from the program and negotiated a payment plan of my own with the remaining creditors. I can't believe FDR charged me a negotiation fee of over $500 because they didn't do any negotiations and demand that the fee is refunded to me.

As far as time frames to complete the program, on average our clients get their first settlement 4-6 months after joining the program. Congratulations, you are right on track. We have been in the FDR program since September of last year. We were getting quite frustrated with the lack of correspondence. We have been promised action by no less than four people at FDR who never return e-mails or phone calls even though we have tried very hard to contact someone who cares. It is quite obvious, at this juncture, that someone is covering up some dirt that no one wants known. We have been stonewalled at every corner. If someone at FDR is really interested we have numerous e-mails to prove same. The saga is too lengthy to detail here but I promise ANYONE at FDR that gives a half a hoot that we will spill the beans about the complete cold shoulder we have received.

I had 3 years of success with FDR and was down to my last final months in the program. FDR failed to pay my creditor on time and the agreement was made null and void with the creditor. I have made every payment on time since enrollment in the program. FDR had to renegotiate a new agreement with the creditor which is now going to cost me almost $1500 more than originally agreed upon and has extended my time in the program by almost 4 months. I have submitted a letter of complaint and believe FDR should be held liable and accountable for their error. I have had to call weekly because FDR has not been responsive even though this was clearly their error. I am frustrated, disappointed and in the end this program cost me more money than it saved it. Tisk Tisk. FDR, you hold your customers accountable to their contracts and agreements but you don't even uphold your end of the agreement.

Freedom Debt Relief is helping me out with this account. They were on top of it right away. It should be resolved soon Pablo is getting this account straightened out.

    Original Review: Feb. 6, 2016

FDR said they settled an account. Come to find out they sent the settlement check to the wrong address and not the address on the settlement letter. If my credit card company didn't receive the check on Oct 24, 2015 the settlement was null and void. The settlement check went to Citibank in S.C. instead of Iowa that was on the settlement letter from Citibank. By the time the settlement check got to Iowa it was Nov. 19, 2015 almost a month overdue. My settlement was null and void. $1284.58 was sent to collection because the check that was sent out by FDR went to the wrong Citibank.

I have called FDR at least 50 times, explained everything to at least 10 different people and nothing has been done about it and its 4 months later. I have received no help. All FDR says they will give it to a manager and "he'll call you to straighten this out." No phone call from him in all these months. FDR also took out their commission for the settlement that wasn't settled. I want to talk to someone in authority that knows what they are doing. I am in collections and will end up being sued for a larger amount. Please someone help me.

This program is expensive, therefore I expect nothing but their best to protect my interests. I have been a customer since 2012 and they have been improving their services and their website. There are some customer service employees that need to get their act together as far as being knowledgeable and professional over the phone. My complaint with this business is that they are not prompt on helping when needed. I was sued by a "dishonest" (no surprise there) collection agency for an account that was settle by FDR. I sent the summon letter to FDR and made them aware of the situation. FDR told me they were taking care of it and someone would get back to me the following week..

They never did. I had to get an attorney to help me. My attorney finally got the information needed from FDR to respond. It is scary to relay that FDR has your back when they don't really. This program should help promptly and fully for the price they charge to be enrolled in the program. As we all know they pay pennies for these accounts. I am hopping soon to have paid the remaining of my accounts.

I just joined Freedom Debt Relief last month. Obviously, I am very new to this company and am looking forward to a great partnership with them over the next few years. I have never missed a payment on any of my accounts, nor have I ever been late. I have A LOT of debt, but I was always able to afford that debt. Last month, my company cut my pay by $20,000 a year. That is a huge pay decrease, but I did get paid well and if I wanted to keep my job then I had no choice but to accept (By the way... I am currently looking for a new job. lol). I realized I would no longer be able to afford all of my monthly payments and live an everyday life, especially since we had just recently bought a house that needs some work. With the information Freedom Debt Relief provided and their superior customer service, they seem like a lifesaver!

I will say that I did not see this site until today, after I signed up with them. My first payment is actually scheduled for this month. I find myself asking if I would have signed up with them had I found this site previously to signing with them. In reading some of the reviews, that would definitely be enough to scare me away, but I asked many of those scenarios and I was given honest answers by my representative. I can honestly say, YES I would've signed up with them even if I read these reviews previously.

A main complaint was the fees and I asked a lot of questions about the fees charged. I can't speak from actual experience, but I am well aware that I will be charged (possible substantial) fees for the settlement of my accounts. Well, all things taken into consideration, if I have a $10,000 debt and they settle this debt for 50% that is $5000. If they charge me the claimed fee of 21% that is $2100. That means they settled my $10,000 debt for $7,100. That's a 29% savings of $2,900. That is a pretty nice savings, even with the fee. Supposedly these fees that they charge are already incorporated into your monthly payment amounts. dI was informed up front that it will take time to settle accounts and that it could take up to 6 months to settle the first account. I do fully understand that since I owe a lot of money and am paying only a minimum amount to this company that creditors will become harassing.

I am certain that by the time 6 months passes that the creditors will become relentless. I am hoping that Freedom will provide the services promised and handle and settle these accounts accordingly. It was me that racked up the debt, but I am hoping their services will help me get out of the debt and recover with minimum damage.

I have followed all the guidance they have given from my representative (John) and in the welcome letter they gave. Granted, I have never been late in any of my monthly payments to my creditors, but I immediately did stop payments after enrolling. I have closed my accounts, as recommended, so they will appear as closed by account holder instead of closed by creditor. I immediately contacted all of my accounts and changed my address and phone number to the information provided by Freedom. I didn't tell the accounts that I signed up for this, I simply changed my contact info. This will reduce the amount of harassing phone calls that I can potentially receive. Harassing phone calls was another repeated complaint and I can't help but wonder if those reviewers followed the advice as given.

I just hope that when one of my creditors does contact Freedom that they proceed as promised and not simply blow them off as some reviewers claimed. I did inquire about any potential lawsuits brought on by a creditor. I was assured that this rarely happens and Freedom will assist in this if it does happen. That remains to be seen, but I have confidence that they will assist in the settling of my debts prior to it going to litigation.

So far, customer service has been fantastic and I am very excited to have signed on with Freedom. Although I can't speak from full experience, I am looking forward to working with them to pay off the debt that I accumulated. By the way, of course my credit rating will take a hit, it was in fact me who got myself into this situation and I am grateful of the opportunity provided to me by Freedom. Everything else remains to be seen, but I have confidence that Freedom will do their part, as long as I do mine.

They make it so easy to settle your debt. I have one settlement done for literally half. I save over 200 a month in payments letting me live life normally at the same time I'm paying off my debt. I can't thank them enough for this program. 44 payments and I am debt free and important at the same time. I'm learning how to use cash and live that way so I don't get into this again in the future.

We are as aggressive as we can be. There are many variables we consider before negotiating for our clients. You just joined our program on late August and it normally takes 4-6 months to get a first settlement. Congratulations on your first settlement. It looks like if you keep your monthly deposits up, you should stay on track to complete the program in the estimated time given. Next is my school tuition to get me back into school (one year left!!). It's sitting a little over $6,000 and I'm hoping that it can be resolved with a similar success to the last settlement! Either way, the program has been good for me. It's a constant payment every month towards being debt free, and that's my only obligation. They do the rest. It's stress off my shoulders. I've dealt with creditors before and have never talked down a settlement like my last one. So I'm excited to move forward with FDR. Thanks guys!

    Reviewed Nov. 20, 2015

I've been dealing with Freedom Debt Relief since June of 2012. I had twenty thousand worth of loans/credit card debt I needed help with, and they took me on. Their terms at the time were completely within reason, which is why I chose them to help me. Their staff/customer service was always helpful. If I needed to call them, they were there. If for some reason they needed to get back to me, they did so promptly, and courteously. They communicated via email and phone very well, and it was a pleasurable experience.

However, that all stopped this week... when I had a problem with them. A serious problem, that has yet to be addressed. My agreed debt program of 42 months quickly became 58 months. A difference of nearly $6000! December 7th was to be my final draft payment, and I'm now being told it could take up to 16 more months. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was put on hold. For a long hold. When I couldn't wait any longer (I was at work), I arranged to have them contact me at a set time. They never called.

Below is a copy of the message that I sent to their customer service. This has yet to be answered, in any way... "On Friday of last week, November 13th, I logged into the client portal to verify when my final payment would be. I couldn't remember if the final monthly draft would be next month, or January 7th, 2015. What I found to be my "FDR Debt Free Date" is now 16 months later than the estimated time given to me on my Debt Resolution Agreement, prepared for me by John **, on June 12, 2012.

16 months? I understand that there can be a fluctuation on the estimated debt free date, but 16 months is completely unacceptable. Per my 2012 Debt Resolution agreement: Total enrolled debt: $20,287. Monthly draft: $354. Estimated payoff: $14,417 - $15,935. Estimated time: 42 months. My first draft of $354 was made on July 7th, 2012. 42 months from that time, tells me that by December 7th of this year, you will have received from me $14,868, which is just a little more than the low number on my estimated payoff. To meet the high end of the estimated payoff would require approximately 4 more monthly drafts. This is a fair amount, and I was prepared for that to happen.

However, the estimated time of 42 months is now 58 months. 16 months longer of $354 monthly drafts. $5,664 more dollars out of my pocket. Simply doing the math shows me that your "debt resolution" program has offered me no advantage. 16 more months of my monthly drafts will essentially equal my total enrolled debt. That being the case, why on earth have I bothered to use you as my debt relief? Per my current client portal, you've been able to reduce my debt by $5,587. Subtract that amount from my 2012 enrolled debt, and that works out to $14,700... Which is right around the amount of my 2012 estimated payoff.

I'm not an idiot. I've done the math. I never would have bothered entering this program, if I knew it would take me 16 months longer than I agreed to. I need this problem resolved, and quickly. I spoke with customer service on the phone on Tuesday, the 17th. I was told that I'd be in touch with a supervisor, but I couldn't wait any longer on the phone, as I was working. Later that day, I phoned and left a message for your company to contact me yesterday, Wednesday, the 18th, at 5:30PM Eastern time. Nobody called. Somebody had better call me today at 5:30PM Eastern time, with good news. I simply cannot afford another 16 months of these payments, and I do not want to be forced into filing for bankruptcy."

I had a very high amount of debt, but FDR was very confident when I signed up that I would be able to settle for close to 50% of my debt. My first card for $3000 was settled at 50% and then I paid 23% charge to FDR. Fine. My next two were for a credit union and they "settled" for 100% ...but I still paid $6000 in fees for ZERO PERCENT REDUCTION. I called to complain, but they took their money anyway. I still feel that was completely unfair since they didn't settle the account at all... just set up a payment plan, which they charged every month for as well. Then my Discover account was settled for 70%. After fees I saved a whopping $461 total. Finally for my last account, I just hired a local lawyer to settle it and quit the program. These were my results after 36 months and missing no payments.

After my initial review, I was contacted the following day, and two days later my issue was resolved. The CSR was very helpful and called me each day until I was satisfied with the resolution. I am very pleased with how this was handled, and have modified my original star rating.

    Original Review: Oct. 22, 2015

I was enrolled in the Freedom program on August 28th. The process was fast, informative and everyone that I spoke to was courteous, helpful and really made me feel that I was making the right decision for my situation. I have already approved my first settlement and they are working on the next, so the program so far is working fast and I am happy with my first settlement amount. I would be rating my experience much higher if I did not have an outstanding issue with my account.

Within the first week of setting up my account and well before my first draft payment I found out and decided that it would be in my best interest to remove one of my creditors from the program. I contacted customer service via phone and the person I spoke with was very helpful and explained that it was easy to add or remove a creditor at any time and that she could take care of it. When she got back to me a few minutes later she gave me my projected new bi-weekly draft amount and it was much higher than I expected. She asked me to suggest what I thought was affordable and that she would forward to underwriting for approval. She stated that if my suggested amount was not approved, that I would find out within two business days.

It is approaching the two month mark very soon, and I either call or email once per week to check status and get my draft amounts temporarily adjusted. There has been no issue with this, and I have not had any amount above what I requested removed from my checking account. However, it is frustrating and time consuming to have to continuously contact them to review and verify my draft amounts and status. Every person that I have been in contact with has been extremely friendly and they can see all the account notes, etc. from my previous calls, and each time I am told that they are waiting for underwriting approval. I will be making my weekly call again tomorrow, so I am hopeful they will get this resolved soon. Other than this issue, so far my experience has been very good and I look forward to being debt free in the near future.

I had a dropped call from them (could have been an accident), but then when I called back, they put me on hold for 20 minutes. Then, I was switched to the department that closes accounts. The guy there tried to convinced me to stay. I told him I had already made up my mind. Afterward, they said they would send me a confirmation email. I did not receive a confirmation email, money back in my accounts... oh and did not receive an email in SPAM. This company is so clever that it would say that it went to my SPAM mailbox. I don't think I am going to get my money back.

When I asked them (when initially signing with the company) what the fees were.. the customer service representative... initials (A.T) kept on saying "very, very minimal." Well, that is not a definitive answer. I think about getting my cousin to sue. This company had told me that they settled accounts. Upon calling the creditors and charge card companies, the creditors and charge company companies told me that FDR had made no overtures to them whatsoever. When I told FDR this... FDR told me that the charge card companies were lying. I am totally incredulous that the BBB would have a good consumer rating for this company. By all rights, they should be sued by many people.

FDR truly and successfully negotiated payments with three creditors over the course of 2013 through 2014. Some of the creditors were difficult to work with. Thus, I never disputed FDR's fees since they did perform the work an provided me with updates. However, the fourth and final negotiation was performed by me and not by FDR. I negotiated directly with the creditor and had to provide FDR with negotiation information and instructions from my creditor since FDR was not a participant in this negotiation. Nevertheless, FDR returned funds to me minus a "fee." I feel strongly that, regarding this particular negotiation, FDR should not have collected a fee.

My credit was perfect when I was referred to this company but I was struggling to make monthly payments due to personal financial issues at the time. I was encouraged to stop making my monthly payments to my creditors because then "it would be easier to negotiate" with my creditors after a few months of no payments. They told me that it would only take a couple of months and then after it was all over it would be as if it never happened on my credit report. Well, I can tell you it is not as if it never happened, my credit has derogatory remarks all over it. And... once you have not made payments for "a few months"... more like 6!! They tell you they are in negotiations and this goes on for a while and then they tell you that they can give you a loan to pay off your creditors at the lesser negotiated amount.

By this time you are more than ready to be done with the process because it is very stressful, especially if you are someone that does not miss making payments to your creditors. So you take the loan but then, surprise! The loan they give you is at an interest rate of almost 20%!!! And why? Because you don't have good credit any longer because you have missed payments to your creditors. Do not fall into this trap, it is not worth it! Talk to your creditors and work something out yourself instead.

I would recommend them for anyone in this situation but debt settlement is not necessarily a pleasant thing to go through. Some of my creditors have been very understanding and then there are others who are not at all.

When all this is over I plan to write a book on this experience so others will know which creditors to avoid at all cost and how this process works in case they find themselves in this situation. Thank you!

    Original Review: Oct. 4, 2015

I recently had a settlement made that was negotiated by NLLG. I made additional drafts to cover the payment and no payment has been sent to the attorney the settlement was negotiated with. I had previously talked with representatives with Freedom and all assured that this would be handled with my extra drafts and assured me it was being handled appropriately. I was served with a writ of garnishment from the attorney's office by mail which I received on 10-2-15.

In my account with the trust company handling the funds, it shows they received the payments but no payments have been made to the attorney. Up until this point, I thought they were doing a good job but now I don't feel very confident this is going to work. NLLG sent me a copy of the settlement but nothing on it even states the due dates for the payments or when they are to begin. If I had known this was going to happen, I would have made the payments to the attorney myself and pulled this account from the program instead of sending in an additional drafts to cover the payments that are not being made which will now incur further hardship if this is not resolved immediately.

On 9/23, I received a Warrant In Debt on my doorstep from Zwicker & Associates that states I am to appear in court on October 19th regarding payment on my Discover account. I called FDR immediately and to be quite honest, the woman I originally spoke with only left me in a panic. I have no idea what any of this means and she made me feel pretty stupid and helpless. Upon her request and email, I enrolled in the National Litigation Group and now I have no clue if that was even the right course of action. My contact in that group won't get back in touch with me.

I also spoke with Juan on 9/23, and he said I would need to send an additional payment of $168 in order to avoid going to court. I came up with that additional money and ran to my bank that same day so he could submit that additional payment to resolve this matter. That additional payment was never taken out until 9/28. What was the urgency in having me rush to my bank to take care of this? Where is this additional money? I emailed Juan and he never got back to me.

Since 9/23, I have called the Advance Collections Team EVERY SINGLE DAY. I have gotten a different answer EVERY SINGLE DAY. On 9/28 I spoke with Levonne and he said to call back. On 9/30, I spoke with Amber and she said it should be resolved that day and she would escalate it to the management team and that I could call back that afternoon for an answer. Instead, I called back today and spoke with Elizabeth and she gave me an entirely different story. She said it hasn't gone to management and there is still no answer.

I am currently looking into other options because FDR has left me high and dry. The customer service group has been fantastic... Until now. Unfortunately I've read over a dozen other reviews online where people have the same exact problem. I am literally sick to my stomach. I got myself into this situation which was stressful enough. People make mistakes and I turned to FDR for help and now I think it only made my problem worse. I trusted them to help me and now when I need help the most, they are gone. It's very sad that a company can do this to people who are already struggling and doing the best they can to resolve their debt. I've never missed a payment in the 15 months I've been enrolled in the program. I've done everything I can to fix my debt problem and now I'm in a bigger problem than what I started with.

Yesterday we settled my first account, the one with the highest debt. I was in the fifth month of the program. The settlement was substantial, as the debt was reduced by 40%. I am gladly paying FDR for their services; they deserve it. I should be debt free in about 2.5 years. Please understand their services to fully benefit of their program. For me, the highlights were: debt reduction, elimination of accruing interest (freezing of the settled debt), a clear, relatively short program to come out debt free (compared to paying tenfold within 10-15 years, if paying only the monthly minimum). Credit score starts rebuilding once the payments restart on the settled debt. In California, we pay FDR 21% of the original debt for their services, on top of the settled debt. This is the only option to bankruptcy, which ruins your credit for good. If you have a substantial debt, this is the way to go. Thank you, FDR!

You helped in the long run - but it took 9 months to get started. We were getting constant collection calls. I ended up negotiating my settlement with my credit card. I was on the phone for almost 2 hours and negotiated down about $10,000. I thought we would get much more help and much sooner. Our other settlement has not come through and I'm worried about the payments now. I would not recommend this service to my friends. I'm still praying for a quick ending to the problems. Thank you for your help, but I wish it was more & sooner.

On average it takes 4-6 months for our clients to get their first settlement, based on average debt and average number of accounts enrolled in our program. Since your portfolio only had 2 accounts, it took a little longer, but we are glad to see you are on our way to being debt free. I was under a mountain of debt when I heard about the wonderful success stories of Freedom Debt Relief. The representatives I spoke with talked about the tremendous success they had in negotiating settlements with creditors. The program they offered sounded really good, the people I talked with on the phone were very helpful and seemed genuinely concerned about my plight. I signed up and started making the recommended payments.

About 3 months into the program, one of my creditors filed suit against me in court. I contacted Freedom Debt Relief and sent them the paperwork regarding the case. As the court date neared, I hadn't heard back from them so I called their toll-free number. Their response was, in essence, "YOU have a problem and YOU need to address it". I erroneously assumed they would provide legal representation or at least legal counsel. The attitude of the people I spoke with, while professional, seemed very detached. One person finally told me to file for an extension which would give them additional time to work out a settlement. This did work but at that point I realized Freedom Debt Relief was not as firmly in my corner as I had thought.

The first settlement they negotiated reduced the debt to my creditor from $15k to $9k and I thought things were wonderful until they took $3k out of my account for as a "settlement fee". That means their "fee" is one-third of the negotiated amount. In actuality, I will end up paying $13k on the $15k I owed. They tout themselves as "helping people" but there is a lot more to the story. I can honestly say I would not recommend this organization to anyone else seeking relief from creditors.

After writing this review everything finally got settled with no additional monies being taken. It still took a few months to get my "graduation" package but it did have a thank you card with the signatures of many people so i felt appreciated as a customer. I still feel you could save money & negotiate your debts yourself for a lot less but if you just don't want to deal with it I can safely recommend this company. FYI upon completion of this program my score went from a 450 to 670 within a few months. I'm now up to a 720.

    Original Review: Sept. 18, 2015

I enrolled in 2012, was told I'd be done in early 2015. I committed $17,024 and have now paid $20,559 and according to them, am still not finished. Their fees are ridiculous, however I wouldn't mind that so much had they been honest. I have been sending them a 1099-C since 2012 where one of my creditors wrote the debt off. I FINALLY got them to resolve the account last month (8/2015). They then tried to take their fee anyway, however, did drop the fee when I disputed it. I was told I would have my last draft taken on 9/15. I spoke to a rep and he gave me the name of 2 supervisors who told him this information was correct.

Now, all of sudden, I have an account that should have been closed still open because I paid a couple days late due to insufficient funds, which I ended up paying within a few days anyway. Looking at my bank statements for the last 2 years, the creditor still got their money every month, and I paid them twice in December 2014, but this account is still not settled. I feel like they lie and add hidden fees and feel like I would have done better saving my money and settling myself.

    * month enrolled in program. Never returned a single call. Supposedly settled for 75% on two of my debts before their fees of 21%. This 96% was not the original debt of 7800.00. It was after 8 months of late charges and fees they said I would not have to pay. They always got them negotiated away. Bottom line: they put me 12000.00 deeper in debt between 6 creditors. They settled for 118% of the original debt. Now I am seeking bankruptcy and will likely find an attorney to go after FDR in my state. Don't trust them. They are liars and will allow your debt to increase thereby increasing their 21% profit on the settlement.

I have had a big mess of a problem ever since getting my second summons on a Discover account. The law group they have me on retainer for did not send Freedom the necessary paperwork that I signed for a settlement. Meaning Freedom had no idea a settlement even existed and if I had not called to check on it I would have never known payment wasn't sent and had a judgment against me for not paying.

Now this obviously isn't Freedom's fault however following this I have been sent on back and forth calls between them and NLLG. I have been trying to get payment out that was due on the 31st to this creditor and have been unable to. I needed to add funds that took 7 full days and now that the funds are in the account payment still hasn't been sent! They told me it could still be a few more days and the payment is already late to a law firm who I signed and said if payment was late they may get an automatic judgment on me.
