Overall our experience has been great. The "Dashboard" leaves a lot to be desired. It is not very useful especially in the beginning. The staff does not respond very well to questions posted on it. Also Freedom Financial posted a "hard inquiry" on my credit report which places a negative against my rating and I'm not happy about that.

I was so stressed out every single day, wondering how I would pay the next stack of bills and I had always thought of Debt. Reducing companies to be shady, or absolutely not an option for me. One late night, as I was on Facebook, I saw a pop-up for FDR. I was very reluctant to do anything, but I decided I had nothing to lose. As I learned more I realized that it was the right thing for me to do to get me through this financial hardship. I can breath again and have hope to be able to get out of this rut without bankruptcy.

Well, after almost 2 years and having 3 accounts totally ignored, to the point they didn't even know the accounts were zeroed out because they "lost" the last 4 numbers on all 3 accounts, and by the way they don't tell you that Chase doesn't negotiate with them, now another account going to an attorney and almost being sued, one account settled, just one - and now my last account once again sent to an attorney, after being sold 2 times to separate agencies, they didn't even know. I am still given the runaround every week. I call, I get different answers from different people, and yet they still will charge me fees. I call, and then I am told there was no record of my call.
Every week, I am told that my account has been "escalated", sent to "legal", "No one has sued you yet'" but still nothing is being done. Perhaps I should have investigated this firm more diligently. They are very successful at collecting their fees, more than willing to tell you anything to get you off the phone, yet nothing is being resolved! They tell you what you need to hear when you call them, in your state of financial despair, and once they have you... you're trapped.
We appreciate you taking the time to share your recent experience in working with Freedom Debt Relief. We are committed to providing an excellent service experience and want to ensure our clients are completely satisfied when working through their requested debt settlement program.
I reached out to the client and resolved all of their concerns. We do have plans to follow up next week to see if there is more we can do for her but her current concern has been resolved.

I have sent multiple emails asking specific questions and have effectively been ignored. The person that signed me up is nowhere to be found, voicemail and email messages go unanswered. When I do get a response the message simply tells me to go the portal site. Your referral program sounds good once you figure out what the rules are - it started with a $150 gift card when I referred someone after I was enrolled 2 months; then it was after the referred person made 3 payments; then it was after I made 3 payments; now I understand it's after I made 6 payments... so what is it and do your customer service folks know the facts?
Although you have helped resolve 1 of my 5 enrolled accounts and are working on another - the others continue to rack up late payment charges (and continue to kill my credit rating) and interest charges. Shouldn't these charges stop once an agreement is reached with the creditor? Good company but I'm not impressed with your customer service.

I was completely misled when I signed up with this program. I was told that my money would build in an escrow account until final debts was paid and any and all fees charged by FDR would be collected at the END of the program once final debt was paid in full. Fee schedule also not explained. WHAT REALLY HAPPENED:
I had $10,000 in the escrow account, $3000 was paid to the creditor (on a $16,000 settlement) the other $5,185 (partial fees to FDR) were deducted and paid immediately to FDR. NOT to my creditor. FDR had reduced my payments to the creditor, delaying the payoff process and they are still taking $255 monthly out of my $555 monthly payment for their fees. Also not going to my creditor. Point being, I was NEVER told this OR that they charge 21% of the ORIGINAL debt amount for their fees, which they take up front. Of course I am LIVID, and when I told the agent that I felt that this was unethical business, he actually AGREED with me!! About his own company.
When I asked about withdrawing from the program, I was told that ALL funds paid to date, fees and all, totaling over $8000 (of which only $3000 has gone to the creditor) would be LOST. What a SCAM. Now I am held HOSTAGE by this bunch of criminals. I could've had this debt paid off in a year and had my credit restored to its previous 790 but because they took their cut out FIRST, it will take another 2 years to pay off. THEY WILL NOT TELL YOU ANY OF THIS. BE WARNED. This company practices are unethical. I would never recommend them to anyone.

The information on the dashboard is inadequate and not useful. The information is too limited. My debt is mostly medical, so the company name listed is not always familiar to me. For example, Argent Healthcare is not a name on any of my bills, nor can I find an account number that matches the last four digits FDR provides on the dashboard. I can try to guess using the amount owed, but I have more than one bill that is $731. In addition, after I submitted my initial group of debts to FDR, I became aware that medical providers were willing to forgive the debt upon learning of my husband's death.
They require a copy of the death certificate. So, I asked FDR if they would take a copy of my husband's death certificate to use in negotiating. The answer was this: "I have received your request you had submitted from the client dashboard. I apologize for such a late response back to your request. I send our condolences for the death of your husband. In reviewing your account, we do not see his name listed as a co-client, so it would not be necessary to submit the death certificate." I have no words. Now I am contacting the medical providers individually and presenting his death certificate. Most are forgiving the debt then I have to contact FDR and have the account deleted.
This is what I thought I hired you to do. I sent an email which includes my ** number, asking that an account for Synchrony Bank be added to the list. That was on May 6. I sent another email June 25. I have yet to get a response and the account has not been added. On another occasion, I sent a request to add an account and accidentally did not attach the bill. The response from FDR was this: "We are happy to advise that this email confirms your request to add your Banner Health account ending in ** has been received. However, we are not able to add an account without having a recent statement on file. We request that the statement be no older than 60 days. You may have to call your creditor to request a statement if you are not in possession of one."
I followed up on this and learned that I had accidentally sent the email without an attachment. That is not what was communicated to me. The response was the statement needed to be no older than 60 days, not that a statement had not been presented with my request. There is a pattern of miscommunication happening and I have lost confidence in FDR. I have told my Primerica representative that they need to disassociate with FDR.

As someone who has always had great credit, it was a little hard to stomach turning over 2 of my creditors and just stop paying them, only to see my credit score plummet. I would have much preferred a debt consolidation loan. I also was not pleased that I had to speak directly to one of the collectors to finagle a deal. I thought that was FDR's job.

When I contacted National Debt Relief and got transferred to Freedom Debt Relief with a new phone rep it should have been a red flag for me; however I proceeded to enroll and now regret it. I had way too much credit card debt for them to help, $62,000. I had some hiccups initially that were eventually resolved, and they settled my first debt in less than 2 months and thought everything was going pretty well. I had also signed up for the optional legal representation from NLLG for a monthly fee to "protect" me in the event of a lawsuit. I never missed or changed the amount of the bi-weekly auto debits from my checking even though funds were thin. I thought I was doing everything right. Fast forward to months 7 and 8 in the program, they settled 3 x more debts and I was very happy!
However, at this time I also noticed that my debt free date on the website portal changed daily and I received a letter from a collections company about one of my enrolled debts so I proceeded to submit questions about these issues via the web portal. A few weeks went by, no response. So I sent another request via the portal with the original case numbers and again no response, even a month later. When I first enrolled with Freedom I would get a response within 24 hours, so when my questions went on for months unanswered I started to get suspect of declining customer service. I set aside some time to call to see what the issue was, and then at month 9 I get a knock at my door after work with papers served for a lawsuit. I immediately contacted NLLG and although they were prompt responding back to me I started to do my own research regarding possible outcomes.
What I found was that NLLG basically handles the legal paperwork for your lawsuit and will attempt to settle with the creditor before a judgment is made against you. Best case scenario, you settle, pay NLLG some additional fees and proceed. The problem that I had discovered was that although I had thousands of dollars built up at month 6 of the program, once those 3 additional accounts were settled at months 7 and 8, my account was pretty much drained to cover the Freedom fees. I understood that this would happen going in, however, what I didn't realize is that Freedom would settle debts that would basically take all of my monthly contributions for the next 12 - 18 months after fees leaving me with an escrow account that would not build funds again until those settlements were paid off. So, where would I get the money to pay to settle with the creditor that was suing me? I wouldn't, and couldn't.
If I happened to sell something to pay the lawsuit off, Freedom would still take fees, NLLG would still take fees and even if everything worked out for me with this lawsuit, what would happen if I got sued again? So, before I agreed to anything with NLLG or Freedom I proceeded to consult a reputable bankruptcy attorney to go over my options. What I discovered going over things with this attorney was that I should have filed bankruptcy in the first place and that is on me for not talking to an attorney before enrolling with Freedom. However, given the debt load that I had $62,000 with 48 months to complete the program, and going over the fees that Freedom charged, I was advised that no creditors would have waited that long to settle and that I should not had my case accepted by Freedom. The attorney also advised me that they have seen this scenario with Freedom Financial and other debt settlement companies numerous times.
Oh, and let’s not forget the tax implications of debt settlement. It's not as easy to claim insolvency as Freedom claims, and I don't think most people will want to owe back taxes on top of debt! So in the end, just to sum up my experience, I was in the program for almost 10 months, got sued, have paid Freedom almost $8000 and settled/paid off less than $1200 in debts, and paying for a bankruptcy now. So I cannot recommend Freedom Financial, at least to someone with similar debt amounts as me.
We apologize he has decided cancel his service with us. While enrolled he was successful in resolving several of his debts. Upon approval of the settlements we advise our clients the details of the settlements including fees, if the client does not agree with the arrangement they have the ability to reject the resolution and ask us to go back and review the account. This doesn't mean the end result changes but we strive to essentially resolve their concerns. We have been in contact with him to assure his concerns are addressed and look forward to resolving his issues immediately.

My husband and I have been in the program for 4 months now. We have 2 of our 8 debts in progress and look forward to being debt free in a few years. The main thing for us is that we now have a plan of action, before we enrolled we just saw the debt, and that was a constant reminder of our past (tough financial and emotional experiences) and it looked like we would never see the end. Now we do. We also know that to achieve the goal to be debt free we have to continue to be responsible for making our monthly payment to FDR. We only use our debit card now. No more credit cards for us.

I would like updated status of where my accounts stand, what accounts they have been in touch with and what negotiations have been initiated. After 6 months in program I still do not know if I made the right choice. I have anxiety mainly because I do not know what is going on and Im getting phones calls and letters from creditors. One being wells fargo which my mortgage is connect to - I am not in default with mortgage but a personal loan with them and Im getting letters stating that repossessions can occur due to loan contract although it is an unsecured loan. It would be nice to have one go to person.
This is a very personal matter and I do not have rapport with one employee. Employees seems annoy with answering questions. I switched bank accounts - did it all in time for drafting. And they drafted out of wrong account causing an overdraft with a fee. When I called to complain - I got, "Oh yes I see what happen". I had to demand a reimbursement of fees. I sent what the gentleman requested and Freedom still has not reimbursed me. I do not feel secure working with Freedom. Yes, one debt had been negotiated and approved and it was a good settlement; however credit reports are still showing the same balance. The personal dashboard doesn't offer much info. It says payments are being made to something collections although it is Citi account. Overall just do not feel knowledgeable, in control, or secure with Freedom financial. I'm hoping by the end of year my impression has changed for the better.

The initial get out of debt pitch line sounded great, until they came to say "we cannot negotiate with them until your accounts become past due, so you must stop paying them". Mistake one.
My payments to Freedom became $604/month in April 2015 and payments to creditors $0. At this point in the program everything was proceeding smoothly, monthly contact from them regarding accounts and 2 settlements reached in October 2015. Freedom immediately deducted their fees from the special account before the first payment was even sent to the settled accounts and the monthly status calls ceased. These 2 accounts were eventually paid of in March and May of "2016". As a note, they also will not start negotiations with the creditors until you have sufficient (their determination) funds built up in the "special purpose account".
At this point in the process is when things took a turn for the worse. In March 2016, I received notice via email that 2 of my accounts, both Chase, had submitted a 1099c cancelling the debts. After discussion with customer service about what they were and how to handle them, the debt resolution was approved. One week later (April 2016), only one of the accounts was reflected as being processed in my account dashboard.
Many, many phone calls and emails later, the last 1099c was processed, end of May 2016. Each phone call, I was told it would reflect in a week, would reflect in a week and also told due to the difficulties that the fees would be waived. When the 1099c was finally processed and shown on my account dashboard, 2 fees were reflected in my special purpose account for both 1099c accounts. One fee of $579 was for a 1099c account with a balance of $2500 and the other for $250 for an account with a balance of over $13500. Since both of these accounts resulted in 1099c, there was no negotiation, so why were these fees of apparently arbitrary amounts charged, and I was also told fees would be waived. As an add-on, the 1099c's from Chase were dated October 30, 2015, but I did not receive copies from Freedom until March 2016.
Now, with my account dashboard up to date, I have 1 account left in the program, still paying $604/month. But, my account shows that negotiations will not start on this last account until "March 2017". So I am going to put this money into an account for a minimum of 10 months, pay them a fee to do so, when I can put the money towards paying off the debt directly and save the fee.
I am currently in the process of cancelling the last remaining account and closing my account with Freedom Debt, to put an end to the worst mistake I ever made, second to actually getting in debt. My credit is ruined, with scores not even reportable, my savings is all but gone and still someone else to pay. Please, please find other alternatives to programs like this. Someone that actually cares about your situation not the money they can make. Creditors have programs, states have programs, even the federal government has programs, research them all before falling prey to this type of experience.

I started with Freedom Debt Relief in August of 2015. I was skeptical at first, especially when my credit score started dropping. The support from the staff was phenomenal. They were reassuring, followed up in a timely manner, and sent prompt email responses. I also highly recommend adding the legal support (for like $12 a month), as I did have a need for their services early in the program and the legal matter was resolved quickly, as a result. Now, after only 9 months, almost every account is resolved and they were able to do for me what I could not have done on my own - significantly decrease my credit card debt. I'm looking forward to being debt free in 2018! I am thankful there are programs like this available, not because I HAD to do it, but because I WANTED to do it and put an end to the mountain of credit card debt I was managing each month.

I have been served twice, and twice I had to go and make contact with lawyers and do all this paperwork by myself. I was advised to include a credit card that I was happy to pay on with a low interest but I was talked into consolidating it. Now I've been sued and sued for interest. The 3.5 years I was quoted to complete program has turned into about 5 and I even increased my monthly draft by 200. It doesn't end, it's always something that's costing me and is adding time to completion of program.

Called Zach then called bank to defer. Next pay time 2 payments was deducted from account. Asked to just get out for now. Talked into staying. Zach said CAL bank defer month of May. I did that. Next pay time got an email saying payment didn't go thru. It has been very disappointing at the lack of understanding and follow through with communication. Feeling like I need to find someone else.

First of all, all those ppl who say they had a wonderful experience... I'm just going to have to assume that they are ok with creditors chasing them and their credit score being ruined. My warning is to watch out. They don't tell you that the IRS will tax you on any outstanding debts paid. We found out 3 years later and we are still paying. Every year we get a new charge from IRS for another debt that Freedom negotiated with.
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts to ensure consumers are making the best decisions possible when looking for relief to a financial hardship. Depending on the condition of someone's credit report at the time of enrollment, a debt settlement program may have adverse impacts on someone's credit report and credit score. Our goal is to resolve your debt for the lowest cost, in the shortest period, without declaring bankruptcy.
There are also federal and state laws designed to protect you from collection harassment. However, most of our clients experience some collection phone calls. Freedom Debt Relief's goal is to get your creditors calling us and not you.
You are also correct that you will owe taxes on your forgiven debt. The IRS considers a forgiven debt as taxable income, so at the end of the year, they will expect taxes to be paid on the settlement. The IRS, however, has a form (Form 982) available for certain hardship situations that may exempt you from this tax. Please contact a tax advisor to discuss this issue further.
If you visit the Freedom Debt Relief website, we have an FAQ page that provides additional information concerning these and several other topics around using a debt reduction program.

After 2 months in the program I realized I made a huge mistake, my credit score tables almost 200 points, no debt was negotiated even though the money was there. I had creditors call me 40+ times a day that I finally had to get a new cell number. I found a new company who is non-profit and much more legit. I would not recommend this company for large debts like mine $70k+. I could see this working on small credit card debts with maximum credit at $1k-2k each. But in my case this company sucks.

This company is such a joke! They tell you all kinds of good things to get you to enroll in their program and are very pushy in doing so. They do tell you that your credit score will drop a little while they work on "negotiations." My credit score was smashed within 1 month of being in the program. They never worked out any negotiation like they said they would. When I enrolled, I gave them all of my accounts and account numbers, but somehow they had the WRONG information! It is nearly impossible to call and speak with a person. You constantly get automated recordings and when you finally do get through to speak to a human that person isn't able to help you and they have to transfer you to another person. You end up being transferred at least times during 1 call.
Needless to say, I ended my contract with this company. But this has also turned into a huge problem. They give you the money back that is in your account. Well they are suppose to. They tried to deposit my money into the WRONG bank account, an old account of mine that had been closed! Freedom was already aware months ago that this account was closed. So then they said that they would send a paper check in the mail. They verified all of my information with me. They had all the correct information on file, but somehow still sent my check to my old address!!! Now the check is being returned to Freedom's bank, Crossroads. This has been going on for weeks. I can't get my money back from this company!! They are a huge scam. They don't follow through on anything! Your credit take a nose dive immediately and the creditors then call you harassing you non-stop. Stay far away from this company.

Yes, these reviews have been helpful- both the positives and the negatives. I contacted Freedom Debt Relief in July 2015. The customer service representatives were friendly. In March 2016, they called me about the Consolidation Plus loan and I was happy that I qualified... and I would be paying LESS per month. I was shocked because I was told I had already enrolled in the Consolidation loan that I requested. So, thanks to Freedom, my monthly payment is MORE-from a low of $636 to a high of $795. As other reviewers said- this contract was signed online. Red flag 1- the amount is higher not lower. Red flag 2- immediate response is needed online. Once I indicated that I could not pay the higher monthly amount, the phone line went dead. I sent an e-mail asking if they are continuing with the old contract? Or if they were canceling my contract altogether? No response from Freedom.
I sent three more e-mails requesting a summary of debts consolidated-amount of debt payments? Amount owed to each creditor? No response from Freedom. Thanks to you Freedom Now, I have a court case, a debt collector case, No idea of what I owe and my credit score has CRASHED!! And Freedom debited $4,452 from my account to pay themselves and maybe somebody else. For the first time In my life, now thanks to Freedom... I have late charges and past due payments AND In 7 months my credit score went from Good to Poor.
Freedom Debt Relief is friendly and helpful in the beginning to get you to sign. They maybe good for some clients. But in my case and for many of the reviewers, they cannot help.. When they cannot help, they should let you know that you and they are not the right fit. This should be done initially-before the client has lost so much money. These are the ones most in need of the help. All of these negative reviews are not wrong or a case of misunderstanding!! Where there is smoke... This happened to me and Alice of NC and... this is Freedom Debt Relief primary method of operation.
UPDATE ON 06/28/2016: Today, I received a termination EMAIL from Freedom Debt Relief Program that BARBARA FROM SHARK TANK advertises as a GOOD program. It is indeed a BAD program. First of all, the letter was received after 3 emails were sent to the company and about 6 weeks after Bank America had sent my account to a lawyer for collection and litigation. The email was received about 8 weeks after Chase had written me a letter saying they do not deal with companies such as Freedom Debt Relief. The e-mail continues... "Thank you for choosing our firm to serve you." Is serving you mean - Now, you have lawsuits and court summons. Now, thanks to Freedom Financial, you have a credit score that eroded from a good to a poor rating.
The email ended with "We hope your debt resolves to your satisfaction..." Thanks to Freedom, my debt is now MORE than the original amount. I do not know how much more because I have no final accounting from Freedom Debt Relief - how much they paid each creditor? Which creditors they did not pay? Which creditors refused to deal with them? Which creditor they did pay and how much is still owed?
Today, by phone, agent E said they did not pay off any credit cards. (Three months ago I was told by Frank that they had paid off Discover.) Now, I am celebrating a one-year anniversary with over $5,000 (636 X 9) paid to Crossroads and Freedom Debt Relief and only three small payments made to Discover according to agent E. No, the debt was not resolved to my satisfaction!! After one year anniversary, agent Eli says that I will receive a refund of 87 cents. This type accounting is HILARIOUS. Since I am not laughing, I must say it is condescending at best and this was their attempt to solve the problem!! And I still owe ALL my creditors except a few hundred dollars they paid Discover. (Freedom had said by phone 3 months earlier that this Discover Card was paid off.)
After paying Freedom and Crossroad Technology for NINE MONTHS, I AM NOW IN MORE DEBT than when I entered the program. And I do not know how much I owe my debtors because Freedom refuses to give an accurate accounting -- just a FACT SHEET they promise to FINALLY send me by mail. Finally, Freedom wrote "We hope the best for your financial future." Really? You are the reason my credit score dropped from good to poor. You are the reason I have no idea of what I owe my creditors. (All statements go to your company.) You are the reason I have late payments added and you are the reason I have two lawsuits pending.
For 20 years, I have had a GOOD credit score -and- thanks to you Freedom, for the first time ever- after 1 year, my score is POOR. I can attest to the fact that most of the negative and positive reviews are correct. Positive (Freedom is nice and helpful in the beginning). I even wrote a review saying they were nice, helpful, patient and understanding - IN THE BEGINNING. They even help you with the computer input. In the Welcome Packet they never mention the 21% fee so at first, I did not know what the reviewers were talking about. They told me about it TODAY --- one anniversary year later.
As most negative reviewers stated... at first, they say you don't read correctly or they mailed it to you or your signature is on the document. Many clients would not enroll if they knew the charge was 21%!! I know I would have refrained from enrolling just like I did when I refused to SIGN $150 dollars more per month (FROM $636 TO $795). My SS check is only $1209 per month. When I said "NO," YOU told me it would be LESS, Freedom stop communicating with me!! REMEMBER THIS SIGNATURE IS COMPUTER GENERATED AND THUS EASY TO MANIPULATE!! FDR preys on the most vulnerable. Better Business Bureau should reduce their ratings!! Barbara from Shark Tank does not know their underhand practices!!!

I removed the three accounts remaining from their program. I left the three they negotiated. The three I removed I negotiated in 2 days directly and then I went back to them. Repeated phone calls. Their systems were being upgraded. They screwed everything up. I kept calling.
Finally I got them to take my money. 23 days later I called again. They paid off one account. Another they said wouldn't work with them and the third was never submitted for payoff. I called the account they said was not working with them. They said NO ATTEMPT HAD BEEN MADE TO PAY OFF THE DEBT! All I can say is watch out with this place, especially the fees. Read everything VERY VERY carefully. What you will probably gloss over when you are reading the paperwork is that they charge 21% of the amount that you initially sign with when you accept a settlement (not the settlement amount), and they take it all out at once. So, like in my case, I had a $7500 bill that they settled for $2700. After the first payment was taken out of my account another payment was taken out, their fee, which was $1579! $200 went to the bill and $1579 went to them.
So, basically my account was drained. I had to make adjustments to my account because the $600 a month payment was killing me, so I had them change it to $300 (a few months prior to the settlement), as a temporary three month thing. I was told when I changed it that as long as I called before it went back up to $600 I could keep the $300 amount if it was easier for me, or I could even lower it more if I needed to. After two months I called to make that payment permanent only to find out if I did I would lose my settlement because it was based on the $600 a month. So I had to withdraw from the program. The representative did not care about my circumstances and had the attitude of “oh well, either go back to $600 or lose your settlement, or withdraw”. Now I am out another $1579 because they keep the fee. Very disappointing.
The biggest problem I have is that they do not EVER disclose that when you are setting this stuff up. They never once said to me that the fees are taken out when a settlement is made, after the first payment, and it’s taken out all at once, and oh, btw, it’s based on the amount that was submitted when you first sign up not the settlement amount. I never imagined that they would take payment like that, and they gloss over stuff like that, it was never discussed with me, I never would have signed on. So just be careful if you decide to do this and ask how it all works and make sure they explain everything to you.

I have been in this program for over four years now, and I only wish I never did it. When you call the first time your emotions are that of fear and anguish that you got so far over your head in debt that no matter what they say they told you it truly did not compute at the time. I am all finished except for one cc, and between the fees and the settlement I am ending up paying the whole amount anyway. They of course take their fees off the top, and the percentage is as much as a cc. When you call they are rude and only tell you what is on the computer, nothing else. One person tells you one thing and another tells you something else, so it seems that an error was made but who cares, you have to keep paying... BEWARE of this company...

About half of that is being used to pay creditors and $300 is going to FDR for fees pulled monthly. The total FDR claims they save you is not correct, here is the actual truth: FDR charges 21% of "total" of bills being settled, not a percentage of the amount saved like told to me initially. For example, if you owe $100,000 to creditors, you will now owe an additional $21,000 to FDR. If FDR settles the $100,000 with creditors for a 40% discount, your FDR dashboard will graph a savings of an impressive $40,000 dollars, but this does not include FDR fees. In this case FDR actually saved the consumer $19,000 after they take their fees from you.
In my opinion, FDR is a good program for certain debts, they just need to train their staff to be forthcoming on pros, cons and clear on fees.
I am sorry there was any confusion about our fees, but we cover our fees in the sale call, we also outline them in our contract and review them again in our welcome call. Your example is a good one and still shows that with our fees we still save clients thousands of dollars, get them out of debt much faster and once out of debt the impact to their credit can start to improve. There are several variables we review when determining who to settle with first. our objective is to settle your accounts as quickly as possible and save you as much money as we can. We will have someone contact you to review your program in detail and make sure everything is clear.

My experience has been great except for FDR not letting my creditors that we are working together. They continue to call me and I tell them I'm working with FDR, but they tell me they need from FDR themselves. I thought that's why I sign the form stating that, and I thought or understood they would send the letter out. It's very stressful to have them to continue to call.
We are sorry that your creditors still call you. We cannot stop them 100%, but please refer to your welcome packet information on how to handle creditor calls.

This program is a complete waste of time and money. Like a lot of people who enrolled in the program, I had a significant amount of debt and although was able to make my payments I felt like there was no hope in sight. I was advised to stop paying my bills which I did. What I wasn't told is that people would be knocking at my door serving me papers to appear to court. I also wasn't told that I would be paying an enormous fee for their service. After paying $600/month to this company faithfully each month and still not getting anywhere I hit rock bottom. I ended up asking for some help from my family. We called the company and immediately asked them to dis-enroll. We were assured I would be getting refunded the amount of money in my special purpose account less fees. What a coincidence, the amount of "fees" I owe equaled the amount in my account.
I have called several times to dispute these fees and each time I call I get a different reason. I have sent two emails so with no response. This company should be ashamed of themselves. Oh sure they are super nice to you when you call to enroll and assure you everything will be okay, meanwhile they're laughing all the way to the bank. By the way, with help from my family I was able to negotiate with all of my credit card company on my own. I paid a fraction without any fees. I suppose the company will write a rebuttal to this review but please don't let them fool you. There are other ways to get out of the situation you are in.
I am sorry you did not feel our program was beneficial for you. Your refund was processed and you should have received it by now. If there are any other concerns please let us know.

I'm not one to review companies. However, with the endless issues I have had dealing with this company (who I turned to for help) I feel it necessary to warn others in the same situation. It was working well for me at first and then I got served papers to appear in court. FDR flat out refused to help me through the situation (yet continuously took my money each month). I was able to find resolution through using my own lawyer and talking to the creditor (who told me the only reason they were turning to legal action was due to no communication from FDR). I stuck with the program still.
Months later I requested to delay my payment draft by one day. I was told it was all good and then they took the money out anyway and I ended up being charged an overdraw fee by my bank (later reimbursed by FDR)... Still trying to make it work I continued in the program. Weeks later my FDR account was closed out, due to an error on behalf of FDR, in the middle of paying a structured settlement, which is now in jeopardy (although FDR didn't make the arranged payments due to closing my account, they sure did withdraw a little over $700 in fees to pay themselves for the settlement???)
I am now waiting to see if the structured settlement can be salvaged, although customer service says it could take 30 days before I hear anything. Customer service does not attempt to help or resolve situations, it's more like a "hmm, what can you do" kind of reaction. I am so disappointed that I was so disillusioned by this company that I thought was here to help people resolve debt issues. I will be closing my account once this issue is sorted... not that FDR cares (I told customer service my plans to shut the account and got zero reaction). Don't be fooled by these frauds... Don't make the mistake I made.
I am sorry you have any frustrations on how the program works. If we made a mistake, I assure you we will fix it. When renegotiating settlements, it can take time. I will have someone from our Client Services team contact you before the end of this week and review your program and answer any questions you have.

At first everything was good. As time went on very few things were happening except phone calls. They don't want you to know that you can actually negotiate with the creditors. Maurice actually negotiated a $16000 settlement when I got a letter from the same creditor negotiating a $12,800 with me. But I still had to pay a $4600 settlement fee. It makes you wonder what they actually settle. They stretch out the time saying they are negotiating. They negotiate with the smaller creditors first saying they are easier to settle with. But the truth is the longer the negotiation the more interest on the accounts adds up the more money they will make between settlement fees and on interest.
I am sorry that you are frustrated about how our program works. You are correct, you can settle with your creditors on your own, we have juts been doing it for a long time, we have data and relationships that allow us to generally get the best settlements possible.

I cancelled my participation with the program because I decided it was not the right fit for me and my needs. As outlined in the contract, I sent them written notice via email on 3/22. I asked for confirmation of receipt and did not hear back. I contacted my account rep first via phone and we exchanged voice mails. She suggested emailing her because it was hard to get in contact on the phone. I forwarded her my cancellation email explaining that I was hoping she could confirm that the cancellation went through. Her response was very short: "If you emailed them and mailed them to cancel you then they would have cancelled you out. There is no way for me to look anything up if you cancelled and are no longer an enrolled client."
I found that this was not helpful at all, but understood she is probably charged with sales and maintenance. I then called the phone number listed on the contract. The first person I spoke with said that I probably hadn't heard back since they had just received it today. I told him I had sent it on 3/22. He said that their process was to do the cancellations over the phone. I tried to point out that their contract actually says the opposite: that they want written notice. He kept talking over me refusing to listen or address the issue. I was transferred to someone in the sales who was helpful and did ensure that no money would be removed from my account. The first person I talked would not acknowledge that their contract did require written notice and they could at their discretion accept verbal cancellation. It makes me wonder if this is a way they try to get money even if cancelled in writing.
Updated on 04/06/2016: After being assured that no money would be taken out of my account and also receiving email confirmation of cancellation, imagine when I logged on to my bank account today and saw that the indeed money was withdrawn. When I called the person was helpful and apologetic, however that does not fix the fact that he said it would take 8 days to get the money back. This is totally unacceptable.
I am sorry to hear how your interaction with our team was handled. Just to confirm you program has been terminated per your request

I just started the program in October so I am early on in the process. My biggest complaint is that recently I have run into some CSRs that aren't good about following up. I received an email from a Simone who told me that FDR was getting ready to negotiate on my Chase account and I needed to sign the attached power of attorney. I don't have a Chase account. I sent an email back to Simone and told her that I didn't have a Chase account and that I needed to hear from her.
After not hearing anything from Simone, I called customer service and spoke to a nice guy who confirmed that I did not have a Chase account and that he would follow up to find out what happened. That didn't happen so I called customer service again the next day. Confirmed I didn't have a Chase account and that she would get the paperwork corrected and forwarded to me. Still nothing. Finally, I called again and spoke to Anthony. Thank god for Anthony. He told me that he would get the paperwork straightened out and forwarded to me. He did it immediately. My desire would be for customer service representatives to be more available and follow through when they say they are going to.
We are sorry for any poor communication and lack of follow up. The last thing we want to do is cause any additional stress. Like many, I went to a debt relief company because I thought it would be easier to let the experts with the leverage help me settle the debt to several credit cards (over 35000) when I ran into financial difficulties and lost my job. The process was easy to sign up and gave us a false sense of security that they were going to do the job. They claimed that they could get around 50% off the cards and even though they had a fee, it would be far less than what we owed and hopefully get out in 3 years. FF said part of the process is to not talk to the CC, don't answer the phone, at the same time start to save in an account which they will use to leverage with the CC to get a reduction. Instead, they failed on so many levels.
The first card which was the largest debtor could only be brought down to 80% so add their 20% and it was a wash. This took almost 5 months and they failed to contact us about this. I had to call them! Meanwhile they did not even try to contact the other CC companies. By this time, the CC turned it over to a lawyer and wants me to appear in court, which means unless I accept the 80% I would have to get a lawyer to defend me. Instead of accepting this, I called the lawyers myself and after 2 conversation was able to reduce the debt by 50% - no additional interest and no fee to Freedom Financial.
I called FF and had this card removed from the agreement. Then I gave them 2 weeks to come to an agreement with the other cards - again nothing. So I called the 2 cards myself and in both cases was able to reduce the debt by 50%, no additional interest and no fee. Now I do admit that not all CC are the same and some were easier to negotiate than others and in the case of one, I need to come up with the 50% at this time. The card was not too big so I will do it.
Recommendation: don't waste your time and aggravation with a debt relief company. Call the CC company yourself. Many are willing to work with consumers in financial hardship and at least get some of the money rather than have to write it off. This will also stop the phone calls to your home at all hours and start your credit recovery as once they are resolved, your credit to debt ratio changes and will start to improve.
I understand your concerns, but our settlement rates are only an estimate, creditors do have the right to take legal action and you can contact your creditors yourself. Although we have over 13 years of experience doing this successfully. While the short time you were in the program, we never charged you a fee. Often times, when we get an initial agreement, we can go back and renegotiate better terms. We are sorry that our program was not a fit for you.

I am at the conclusion of my program with FDR and would never recommend them to anyone. The salesman was of course nice and pleasant, telling you what you need to hear. Overall my debt reduction was minimal when you figure out their hidden fees. Make sure you ask them their fees for the settlement before you agree. I found that for the most part they were so high the settlement was only 30% or so. I settled 2 accounts on my own due to the slow-moving program and got a better settlement, without fees, just talking to them myself. Also their communication has been terrible the past year. I have sent correspondence to their CS dept. 3-4 times the past 8 months or so, telling them to remove an account I already settled on my own with NO return response.
Also I was told that companies MAY send a 1099 for cancelled debt, but I was insolvent so it wouldn't matter. Well EVERYONE has sent a 1099 - remember that 30% savings, that's all gone. In my trustful ignorance listening to my FDR rep, I did nothing and just got a $2,400 bill from my 2014 tax return due to those 1099 I ignored, plus now interest and penalties - who knows what I'll end up paying the IRS.
Terrible experience with FDR. My credit is terrible since they make you stop paying and ignore debtors. I recommend you work it out. This was a terrible company and program for me. They still have a final account on my file I have told them 3 times to remove because I had already settled it on my own, but my account shows FDR is in progress working on a settlement. What happened to you can remove accounts at any time? Every time I tried to have an account removed I had confrontation, and in one case was told NO, we have a settlement in place. Bad deal, run away!
I am sorry to hear about your concerns. Our program can be very beneficial to our clients and save them money while getting out of debt. It looks like your largest account was settled for 35% which is amazing. All of the concerns you mentioned are reviewed in your welcome call and in your contract. I was so disappointed in FDR because they didn't do for me what I thought they would do. It was so irritating for me to get letters and phone calls from my creditors all the time, and FDR didn't do anything when I informed them about that. Every time I received a letter from my creditors, I would scan it and send it to at least 11 employees at FDR asking them to communicate with the creditors but they never did. I also asked FDR to forward documentation to me as proof that they communicated with my creditors, but no one even bothered. It took a lawsuit filed against me by one of my creditors to get FDR to reach out to that creditor and then their way of negotiating was done very poorly.
To avoid any legal procedures, I instructed FDR to pay off that creditor completely and pay off a small loan with another creditor and pay on the second account I had with that creditor. They didn't even do a good job with that. In the end, I ended up paying off the first creditor myself. After not being able to communicate with the second creditor, I resigned from the program and negotiated a payment plan of my own with the remaining creditors. I can't believe FDR charged me a negotiation fee of over $500 because they didn't do any negotiations and demand that the fee is refunded to me.

We have had great service. Just wished we could make some deals a little quicker, even if the money is not in the account yet so the creditors would shut up. I do understand this is a process.
Thank you for understanding and we understand how frustrating it can be. Just remember, anytime you have a question or concern, please call or email us so we can help.

Freedom Debt Relief is helping me out with this account. They were on top of it right away. It should be resolved soon Pablo is getting this account straightened out.
Original Review: Feb. 6, 2016
FDR said they settled an account. Come to find out they sent the settlement check to the wrong address and not the address on the settlement letter. If my credit card company didn't receive the check on Oct 24, 2015 the settlement was null and void. The settlement check went to Citibank in S.C. instead of Iowa that was on the settlement letter from Citibank. By the time the settlement check got to Iowa it was Nov. 19, 2015 almost a month overdue. My settlement was null and void. $1284.58 was sent to collection because the check that was sent out by FDR went to the wrong Citibank.
I have called FDR at least 50 times, explained everything to at least 10 different people and nothing has been done about it and its 4 months later. I have received no help. All FDR says they will give it to a manager and "he'll call you to straighten this out." No phone call from him in all these months. FDR also took out their commission for the settlement that wasn't settled. I want to talk to someone in authority that knows what they are doing. I am in collections and will end up being sued for a larger amount. Please someone help me.
Congratulations on having 2 of your 5 accounts resolved in the first 12 months of a program that is estimated to take 36 months. If there was any error in a payment to one of your creditors, we are working to resolve it. It appears that Pablo is already working with you to resolve this. We are sorry for any issues this has caused and we are confident Pablo will be able to get this resolved for you.

This program is expensive, therefore I expect nothing but their best to protect my interests. I have been a customer since 2012 and they have been improving their services and their website. There are some customer service employees that need to get their act together as far as being knowledgeable and professional over the phone. My complaint with this business is that they are not prompt on helping when needed. I was sued by a "dishonest" (no surprise there) collection agency for an account that was settle by FDR. I sent the summon letter to FDR and made them aware of the situation. FDR told me they were taking care of it and someone would get back to me the following week..
They never did. I had to get an attorney to help me. My attorney finally got the information needed from FDR to respond. It is scary to relay that FDR has your back when they don't really. This program should help promptly and fully for the price they charge to be enrolled in the program. As we all know they pay pennies for these accounts. I am hopping soon to have paid the remaining of my accounts.
Thank you for the feedback, all feedback good or not is valuable for us to continue to strive for excellence. We will review your program and specifically your interactions and have them addressed. As far as your program, we will have a Client Services Advocate contact you to review all your accounts in detail with you.

I have about $7800.00 in credit card debt and have never once been late on any of my payments so after trying to get help from Freedom Debt Relief they denied me with no explanation as to why! I do have bad credit but the story on MSN made it sound like that didn't matter but yet I was denied! I've tried so many options to have help with my debt and I guess unless you have excellent to good credit you can't get any help from anyone. My debt is the reason my credit is bad in the first place! So stupid!
I am sorry if it was not clear why you did not qualify for our program, but the reason is that you do not have enough debt to qualify for our program. We don't want to just enroll anyone and charge fees if it does not make sense for our clients. We wish you luck and hope you find a good option. Have you considered consumer credit counseling?

Happy so far. Things are working so far as I can tell... Can't see any graphs that I guess was sent... Just send me an email once a week and tell me who has been paid off. And how do you stop them from sending me bills in the mail? Or, will that ever stop?

The only negative I have to say is two of my accounts were added that I did not want at the start of my program with your company... One Main Financial and Capitol One and even after over a dozen requests to delete them from my program they have not been as of date since 08/2015. Capitol One will be paid off in March and One Main Financial is due to be paid in full within the next 8 months. If it is possible I would like these accounts removed from my repayment plan ASAP. All your reps have been kind and pleasant and great to work with. I have recommended you to two other people in need. Thank you.

So far I've been in the program for 6 months and already Freedom Debt Relief definitely allowed me to get my life going in a better direction. It's great to have my first account settled and to move on with others to be settled. My credit card bills were a huge weight on me. Financially there seemed to be no way out. I was giving minimum payments and yet my balances weren't going down. I tried negotiating with the credit card companies myself, but didn't do me any good. As much as I tried explaining to them my situation, they wouldn't help me. Instead, they gave my more grief. Then I signed up with Freedom Debt Relief. They got me results! I still remember how happy I was when FDR called to tell me about my first settlement. It was such a huge relief. Today, thanks to Freedom Debt Relief, I'm on my way to being debt free and feel like a big load fell off my shoulders.
Thanks you for the kind words and congratulations on your first settlement!

So much negativity towards this company for making false promises. Being told lies and then the company negotiated without my ok an amount of money for more than I went into the program with. Sad excuse for a company ripping people off. No call backs and unable to speak with a real person most of the time.
I am very sorry if there was any misunderstandings about how our program, works. In the short time you were in the program, Freedom Debt Relief did not charge you any fees. We only charge fees when we settle an account.

I feel the client services just tells you what you want to hear. I have been enrolled for 6 months and only 1 of my accounts have been settled. I recently had to make other arrangements with one credit card company because I don't believe it was handled correctly. I believe they will keep you in the program as long as possible to benefit them. The follow through on customer service isn't exactly stellar either. Hasn't been my best decision.
We are sorry you feel this way. We do not charge fees until we negotiate a settlement, so it is in our best interest to settle our clients accounts as quickly as possible, for the best savings to our clients.

They got one of four CC cut in half so far. The only problem is the wait time in-between the first and second negotiations. If they would just do them all at once it would be better and they would have received five stars.

I just joined Freedom Debt Relief last month. Obviously, I am very new to this company and am looking forward to a great partnership with them over the next few years. I have never missed a payment on any of my accounts, nor have I ever been late. I have A LOT of debt, but I was always able to afford that debt. Last month, my company cut my pay by $20,000 a year. That is a huge pay decrease, but I did get paid well and if I wanted to keep my job then I had no choice but to accept (By the way... I am currently looking for a new job. lol). I realized I would no longer be able to afford all of my monthly payments and live an everyday life, especially since we had just recently bought a house that needs some work. With the information Freedom Debt Relief provided and their superior customer service, they seem like a lifesaver!
I will say that I did not see this site until today, after I signed up with them. My first payment is actually scheduled for this month. I find myself asking if I would have signed up with them had I found this site previously to signing with them. In reading some of the reviews, that would definitely be enough to scare me away, but I asked many of those scenarios and I was given honest answers by my representative. I can honestly say, YES I would've signed up with them even if I read these reviews previously.
A main complaint was the fees and I asked a lot of questions about the fees charged. I can't speak from actual experience, but I am well aware that I will be charged (possible substantial) fees for the settlement of my accounts. Well, all things taken into consideration, if I have a $10,000 debt and they settle this debt for 50% that is $5000. If they charge me the claimed fee of 21% that is $2100. That means they settled my $10,000 debt for $7,100. That's a 29% savings of $2,900. That is a pretty nice savings, even with the fee. Supposedly these fees that they charge are already incorporated into your monthly payment amounts. dI was informed up front that it will take time to settle accounts and that it could take up to 6 months to settle the first account. I do fully understand that since I owe a lot of money and am paying only a minimum amount to this company that creditors will become harassing.
I am certain that by the time 6 months passes that the creditors will become relentless. I am hoping that Freedom will provide the services promised and handle and settle these accounts accordingly. It was me that racked up the debt, but I am hoping their services will help me get out of the debt and recover with minimum damage.
I have followed all the guidance they have given from my representative (John) and in the welcome letter they gave. Granted, I have never been late in any of my monthly payments to my creditors, but I immediately did stop payments after enrolling. I have closed my accounts, as recommended, so they will appear as closed by account holder instead of closed by creditor. I immediately contacted all of my accounts and changed my address and phone number to the information provided by Freedom. I didn't tell the accounts that I signed up for this, I simply changed my contact info. This will reduce the amount of harassing phone calls that I can potentially receive. Harassing phone calls was another repeated complaint and I can't help but wonder if those reviewers followed the advice as given.
I just hope that when one of my creditors does contact Freedom that they proceed as promised and not simply blow them off as some reviewers claimed. I did inquire about any potential lawsuits brought on by a creditor. I was assured that this rarely happens and Freedom will assist in this if it does happen. That remains to be seen, but I have confidence that they will assist in the settling of my debts prior to it going to litigation.
So far, customer service has been fantastic and I am very excited to have signed on with Freedom. Although I can't speak from full experience, I am looking forward to working with them to pay off the debt that I accumulated. By the way, of course my credit rating will take a hit, it was in fact me who got myself into this situation and I am grateful of the opportunity provided to me by Freedom. Everything else remains to be seen, but I have confidence that Freedom will do their part, as long as I do mine.

Freedom Financial was very helpful and patient with me. They kept contact on a monthly basis to check how I was doing or if I had any questions during this process. I am very pleased with the results. I can't say that I was not very anxious, and a little scared, but once the process of settling the accounts with the creditors started it was all done very fast and smooth. Today I received the notice for the settlement on the last account. I can breathe a lot easier now. I know that I still have a payment until my debt with Financial Freedom is paid off, but one lower payment is so much easier and better than five. Thanks to all of you who helped me through this.

Everyone I have talked with from Freedom Financial has been kind and understanding. People in debt have enough stress and having to talk about his or her debt level makes it even more stressful, not to mention embarrassing. It's nice not to be ridiculed and chastised about something that got out of control. Instead, Freedom Financial offered several options to fit your lifestyle and explains the whole process. It's easy to get overwhelmed with debt. Let Freedom Financial help you get organized and out of debt.
