I wish to update my initial review by saying that Freedom Debt relief did reach out to me and having felt my plight was serious, they did refund me my money. They understood that I was now in a worse financial bind because of what happened with my case, and they returned the service fee. Because they showed integrity, I may even consider seeking them again if I ever need them.
Original Review: Jan. 17, 2017
I hired Freedom Debt Relief back in 2013 or 2014 because I was being sued for a delinquent hospital bill. In order to avoid a wage garnishment/judgment, I hired them to negotiate a settlement/payment plan. I paid my required amount faithfully every month, having changed my bank draft date only once so that their firm could take the funds from my bank earlier in the month instead of bimonthly. I never was told that this modification would result in rendering my contract with the creditor null and void and that new negotiations would have to happen. I was happy to continue paying my account through Freedom. However, the funds NEVER made it to the creditor. As a result, the original judgment against me was executed and my wages were garnished for $2100 a month.
In a panic I called Freedom and asked what happened. They said they indeed had $4500 of mine but admitted that they NEVER paid the creditor. They said that the modification to have my DATE of debit/draft from my bank made the contract null!! When I asked why they were continuing to take the money out of my bank account EVERY month if they weren't paying the creditor, they said it was to save money toward settling another debt listed on my credit report which I never authorized or entered a contract for! They unsuccessfully tried to lift the wage garnishment, but the creditor was exasperated with Freedom Debt Relief already for failing to deliver the money in the first place. So the wage garnishment is in place and has put me in a far WORSE financial predicament than before!
Freedom Debt Relief told me that they will redeposit all of the money I paid EXCEPT for an $869.15 service fee!!! THIS is what I am complaining the most about! They did not EARN this fee because they failed to renegotiate a new contract with the creditor when I changed my deposit date!! They refuse to provide a remedy, relying on their disclosure clause that says any changes made to the contract will result in a failed contract. If they knew this was going to happen then why didn't they call the creditor at that point and renew the contract?? Now they want to charge me a hefty service fee??? I am only getting a portion of the money back AND I am being garnished!

I have had to make changes to my agreement and your staff has been very helpful and understanding. My counselor was extremely helpful and explained everything in great detail. Made the whole process easy. The only thing I could ask for is that Freedom contact my debtors and inform them of the plan. I am getting numerous phone calls (even tho I don't talk to them, they leave messages) and some have been turned over to collectors.

Freedom Debt Relief was very unresponsive when I had questions. They never approached Discover or American Express to try to settle. I was told that discussions would start once I had 25% in my account, which I had more than with respect to Discover. I was sued by Discover and now am being sued by American Express, so my account was moved over to National Litigation Group.
Despite doing nothing on this account and my resultant settlement with Discover for close to 83% of the enrolled balance (I had been told on the phone by a Freedom Debt Relief representative when I first signed up for the program, that they estimated my accounts would settle at about 50% plus the FDR fee, which was included in their calculation of my monthly payment amount), they still charged me the full 20% fee. So my debt reduction was $1659, but my settlement fee was $1841.07. On top of that I am paying monthly account fees of $7.25, monthly fees to National Litigation of $12.00 and a monthly $10.00 fee for 2 day mail for the Discover payment.
Despite being told by FDR that they estimated my accounts would settle at 50% and their knowledge that my creditors were Discover and American Express, when I was sued and my account was transferred to National Litigation, they told me that Discover and American Express rarely settled for less than 80% or slightly less if paid in a lump sum. This program has cost me more than I owed to Discover and I am likely on track for the same issue with my American Express debt, which will result in even worse financial hardship for me than I was in before I ever heard of or signed up with Freedom Debt Relief. I would not recommend them to anyone and am looking into reporting them to the Better Business Bureau or other agencies for their handling of my account and their charging me more than they saved me.

I have been very satisfied with Freedom Debt Relief. The only problem I have is that when I was approached by Consolidation Plus, the woman I started at Freedom Debt Relief (Sara **) was no longer there and when I stated my uncertainty with going with the loan, no one seemed to be able to advise me. I'm still not sure I made the right decision.

FDR has been on top of my settlements! They had the first one settled the first month!! They have kept me informed all the way. They answer my questions and make me feel secure. Honestly, to date, Freedom has been very forthcoming with sharing information about their process and actions. The client dashboard is a tool which tells me the status of my file. I don't understand why the smaller accounts are done first. Now my largest account has a charge off, One of my accounts stated they will not work with a debt reduction company so I feel I should have been notified instead of allowing it to possibly allowing it to be "charged off". For the most part I am pleased with Freedom. They are professional and I appreciate the work they are doing.

If you are reading this review, thank you for your time and I hope that this review helps you in your endeavor to find help with your current debt situation. My purpose is to share my experience and to help others be informed before making a crucial decision during such a vulnerable time. Freedom Debt Relief has left me frustrated and in a worse mess than when I began my journey with this company. As a single mother supporting 2 children, I feel extremely taken advantaged of.
I began doing business with Freedom Debt Relief (FDR) IN October of 2015. I was excited to start my journey to financial freedom. The initial process was pretty much effortless. Basically, they tell you to stop making payments to your creditors and instead make your payments into a Debt Settlement Account. I was told that this was my money. Like a savings account. If at anytime I wanted to opt out of the program, this money would be refunded back to me. So I did as they said and stopped making payments. I was also asked if I wanted to pay extra for legal representation just in case I was to be sued by any of my creditors and I took it. And good thing I did, because in May of 2016 I was served with papers stating that one of my creditors was suing me. I left the matter in FDR's hands. I paid for the service so why not.
In October of 2016, I called in to check status and I was told that FDR had come to a settlement with creditor. However, they did not have the settlement for me to see, because the creditor had not sent it yet. In December 2016, I received a call stating they received the settlement paperwork. At this point, I'm thinking that they had actually settled on a lower amount than I owed or something better than what I had. Once I received the so called settlement, I realized that I owed almost $2500 more than what I began the program with. Between the unpaid interest and attorney fees I was in a worse situation than when I began. I immediately questioned everything. All FDR did was get me a payment plan. I could have done the same thing. They settled absolutely nothing for me.
Once I realized I was not pursuing the settlement and wanted to pursue other avenues, I called and chose to opt out of the program. I was told that I would receive the money from my Debt Settlement Account into my bank account in 3-5 days. I had $2800 in my Debt Settlement account. Well by the third day, I called to check status of the money. I was told that Freedom Debt Relief was keeping the money, because they stated I agreed to the settlement. I did not do such thing. I actually sent a letter stating that I declined the settlement and I was pursuing bankruptcy. This whole situation began December 14, 2016. It is now January 11th, 2017 and I have yet to receive my money from my Debt Settlement account. Since then I have filed bankruptcy and if this isn't proof enough that I declined the settlement I don't know what is.
If you are considering Freedom Debt Relief, I hope this review helps you make the best decision that is right for you. I'm a single mother of 2. I was seeking help to find financial freedom. When I first entered into my agreement with Freedom Debt I was under the impression that I would be out of debt within three years. As of now it looks like it will be 4-5 yrs which has been very upsetting to me.

I'm pleased. We did have one communication SNAFU which resulted in my payment being removed twice. It was partially my fault so I don't blame you. Otherwise, I'm happy with the site. I would definitely recommend a friend. Freedom Debt Relief has been a life saver for me. My husband and I invested some $40,000 into a real estate deal. We were told we could make a lot of money selling. The company made many promises to us and also told us we would not need any of our money to make deals. Not one thing this company promised us was the truth. We were so far in debt. We couldn't buy groceries or put gas in the car, because all my credit cards were maxed to the limit. We were encouraged by this company to use as many credit cards as we could, because we would only have to pay the minimum payment each month. We did just that! Eight credit cards to the limit. It was so overwhelming, because we couldn't do deals without $25,000 of our own money which we didn't have. Therefore, we couldn't make any money and the little retirement we had to live on was eaten up in payments.
We are both on a fixed income, and falsely led to believe we could essentially get rich. I found Freedom Debt Relief by an act of God, and thankfully so. We are still struggling to make ends meet, but with the help of Freedom Debt Relief, we can now buy a few groceries and put a few gallons of gas in our car. Of course, this has ruined my good credit, and I don't know if I will ever get my credit score back to where it was before all this. I thank God every day for your help.

Everybody has been extremely helpful and pleasant on the phone when I have called. I am kept up to date on what's happening with my account and I can check it out on the computer. BIGGEST SCAM EVER. THEY DO NOTHING BUT TAKE YOUR MONEY. YOU CAN DO WHAT THEY DO FOR HALF THE COST. HERE IS HOW: Stop making your payments and save the money to offer a settlement. After 6 months the credit card depts. will go to collections. With the money (payments you didn't make but saved) you can make a settlement offer for 1/3 the amount owed. You will take many calls from your credit card companies. Tell them what happened to you and why you can't pay. Be brave. This part is hard. However if you sign up the Freedom Debt Relief you will have the same things to deal with only they will take 21% off the top of your payments before your debts are paid. Example say you owe $10,000. You will need $3000 after 6 months so save $500 a month. Once your debt goes to a collection company you can offer them $3000 and they will probably take it.
If you sign up for Freedom Debt Relief, they will agree to the $3000 however they will take their $2100 out of your $3000 for themselves, give $900 to the collection company and make payments of $500 a month for the next 5 months (cause they have a lot of fees and payment costs along the way). Don't pay them for what you can do yourself!!!!! My experience was terrible. I had to deal with 6 months of phone calls with no help from them because the credit card companies won't talk to them. They wouldn't reduce my monthly payments even when I didn't have enough to pay for food.

I think you're just letting all accounts get closed so they go to court and nlg makes money. When I signed on I thought that I was going to have a personal counselor to help me get through this without sitting here praying that everything you said was going to happen. I don't get feed back when I have a question. You may not see it as important but I am the one that has to worry about this and the mailings I get. Once telling me the account has been sold to someone else and they are coming after me. If they do and attach my pay I will have no way to pay you. After my initial online submission, Patrick **, my consultant, contacted me promptly and was patient for me to reply. When I finally did so, it took only a few phone calls and online forms to fill out to get started. We started with Freedom back in June of 2016. Only one of the creditors to date has been negotiated with and it is being paid down. However, I was just served a summons to sue from Bank of America. They had not been notified from Freedom and now I may have to go to court. I assumed all the creditors would have notified immediately once signing on with Freedom. That is not the case. The creditors are left hanging until another debtor is paid off. Not right. They should all be notified immediately.

My experience with FDR has been a good experience so far. I have been with them not quite a year but they have already started to pay off my biggest creditor which I appreciate and they have my other creditors stop contacting me. I thought the process of arranging payoff amounts would happen quicker. I know I can add to my monthly amount to pay off sooner, however the current amount of stretching it. I am hoping to retire as soon as this is all done.

In the beginning everything was very good. I was happy with the service being provided and the terms of two settlements they were able to get. Then in mid-December 2016 I called and asked them to remove one of the debts. They say no problem. They sent me a new written agreement. I was thrilled to see that my monthly payment to FDR was reduced by half. I signed the agreement and sent it back on Dec. 16, 2016. But FDR did not honor that agreement. They debited my account for the previously agreed to amount rather than the new amount. I called on January 3, 2017 around 9:30 in the morning and talked to someone for about 25 minutes. She was nice but seemed confused. I asked her to call me back when she figured everything out because I was at work. She said okay but no one called me back that day.
So, I call back again January 4, 2017. And after a lot of being put on hold and the rep hemming and hawing and consulting with her supervisor, she tells me the new agreement was a typo and my monthly payment would remain the same. I said "whoa, wait a minute. We have a signed written agreement for one amount. That agreement supersedes what was agreed before. You can't just take double of what was agreed in writing." The rep tells me that "yes, FDR has to take double than what was agreed or else your settlement agreements will be voided." I tell her that I should not be penalized for FDR's mistakes. I ask for a supervisor. Eventually she transfers me to Juan.
Juan sticks to what the rep says and tells me they have to take the double amount. I keep going back to the signed written agreement. Juan interrupts me constantly. CONSTANTLY. I have to tell him repeatedly that I'm the customer and he needs to let me talk. He continues to act like the agreement should just be disregarded because it was a "minor typo." FDR that is not okay. An agreement is an agreement. You can't just decide to ignore it because of a typo.
I am appalled by the response of your employees. This is my money we're talking about. My money that I'm trying to budget carefully. How dare you take double than what was agreed and then tell me that even though I signed it, it was a mistake and you don't have to adhere to it. They're sending me a corrected agreement. But THIS IS NOT OKAY. NOT OKAY AT ALL. I am disgusted as the way your employees responded to this issue.

I've been going through some tough times in my life and one of the items I would not have been able to tackle on my own is my debt. I was very misled with this organization. I was told it would take 4-6 months to get my credit settled. What they fail to tell you is that only one card is approved right away. It has been almost a year and only 3 out of my 6 cards are settled. Had I known this, I would never have gotten into this program.

FDR is helping me with getting out of crushing debt that was literally damaging my health because of the stress I was going through. I was never informed that I would be charged $9,000 for your services. I ended up owing almost as much as my debt was. I really wish I had gone with a consolidation loan instead. At least my credit would not have been trashed, and I would not have had to change banks.

I called to get advice on what to do about the SUMMONS that was served to me by AMEX for my debt. It was too late to involve the attorneys that I had paid for, so I got advice from the Customer Service Representative Jacob. He told me my options for resolving this matter. I was able to use his advice to get in contact with the law firm, and file an ANSWER to the County Clerk's office within the specified time. I will be resolving this matter outside of FDR and was told, therefore, that there would be no service charge for that account. Jacob was very helpful.

Was told when contacted by your rep that I would receive regular updates on where you were regarding the negotiations with the creditors. Never was contacted regarding the status of my account. Only info was on dashboard which contained no details only BIG picture overviews on account. I removed one of the debts from the list that needed to be settled, it was settled in court by my former partner who never advised me that this was taking place. It amounted to approx. 50% of the total that your firm was working on for me. I called to ask how the reduction in time and work required would affect my fee and time frame. No one could answer and I have never heard from your company regarding this issue and it has been months.

I only been in the program since March 2016, so it's early to make a judgment I guess. I just know that I've paid every month and made one extra payment. It just this just seems like nothing gets done. I make the payments and when somebody threatens to sue then litigation starts. One payment was settled a little higher because of the threat of litigation and then the negotiator gets 21%. Therefore there is no incentive for the rate to be lower. Then please take them right off the top so it takes a long time to build up more money for the next payment until of course she get sued. And of course my credit it ruined. Only one of my debts is been settled. I am presently being sued. Besides these two, I have three other debts that haven't even been touched. I am scared. I don't know if enrolling in this program was a good idea, but I'm in too far to turn back. In all fan is in a year I might give you a glowing report. This is where I am right now.

We are not all comfortable with our decision. Apparently, my husband and I did not truly understand how the process worked. We were told it could take 4-6 months for all creditors to be contacted but only one has been contacted thus far and this has been since 8/1. We thought that FDR would contact all creditors by now. One of the creditors, Fifth Third is now contacting my husband via his employer. The interest and late charges on the 2 largest account are accumulating at a very quick rate which will add considerably more debt than we started with.

I closed my account on November 11th and was supposed to receive a check of $419.00. The person who closed my account Titrail asked if my account on file was a good account to send the $419.00 to. I stated this account is going through bankruptcy and it was not a good account to credit my refund to. Titrail stated he would mail me back a check for the amount due of $419.00. I called 2 weeks later to check on my status of my account and was told it was already credited to my account on file. This was the account that was going through bankruptcy, and I which I was told I would be receiving a check in the mail. Titrail did not know the policy and sent for my account to be credited instead of a check being sent out.
I was told that I would receive my amount of $419.00 by Titrail and he would get with his supervisor and send me out a check since it was him who screwed up the process which did not allow me to receive my refund. After weeks of calling I was connected with Liana ** on December 12th. Liana assured me I would get my refund back and her and Titrail would work together to get me the refund owed. This never happened; apparently Liana was out of the office for 2 weeks and nothing got moved along to a supervisor as promised.
I called today 12/27/16 to speak with a supervisor (Natasha) and was told since the account on file accepted the money Freedom Debt Relief was not going to give me the $419.00 owed to me. Not only was Natasha rude but she acted like Freedom Debt Relief did me a favor since the bankruptcy account was no longer as negative as it once was. I have a problem with this because I was told I would receive a check of $419.00 which never happened; and since Freedom sent out the money to the account which they weren't supposed to I am out $419.00 now which was promised to me. Titrail was not trained correctly and processed the refund incorrectly. Freedom Debt Relief will not give me the money owed.

I believe this organization is actually trying to help me with this debt. They are always there for me. I have called for advice and my adviser has the answer. I think my debt will get resolved through perseverance. I wish the calls would stop but there must be suffering until it is over.

Its only been a few months and 2 debts have been settled and the 3rd is in process. Very happy with services provided and I'm going to see this through till all of these debts are settled. I have been with Freedom for a few months. I have been very satisfied. They negotiated a loan within a month and I will have it paid in a few months instead of a few years. Customer service has been very good. You can try to do this on your own but with the help of Freedom knocking off half of the loans it helps.

Unfortunately I would have joined this program had I been disclosed accurately how my accounts were going to be settled. I was told after 90 days all accounts would be reached for settlement therefore limiting the derogatory exposure to a minimum. Well that's nowhere near what is happening. Only two accts have been handled but still not paid out of the 20 accts as my credit goes to ** and will continue to do so for most likely another 2 yrs leaving me unable to move, or hut anything. DON'T DO IT!!!!!

Started with eight, now three to go. Very happy with the process. Started kind of slow then boom with c+ we are pleased. We have questions about our credit rating, could you predict when we will be over 700, we are 546 now?

So far only one of my charges has been negotiated and paid, but Debt Relief is working on another one as we speak. Hopefully it gets settled soon. Whenever I had to call the Debt Relief people they have been most helpful.

I was in panic mode when my bills got out of hand. I had a sickness and death in the family and my bills just were not controllable. Called Freedom Debt Relief and within what I felt was a short time they were already arranging my first settlement. Thank you Freedom!!!

All the agents I've dealt with have been knowledgeable, reachable and helpful. The "dashboard" feature doesn't provide enough detail. Users of this service should know the impacts of credit score tanking – open accounts may cut you off, lower available credit.
