If I could give Match zero stars, I would. Please save your money and sanity, and read this review. I subscribed to Match for 3 months and immediately regretted it. It went from bad to bizarre to scary in 3 days. 1. I discovered most of my “matches” were free/unpaid subscribers — some profiles were as old as 17 years! One man had a photo dated 2001; another had a photo of himself with a laptop image of the date — 2008; another man listed his age as 48 in his profile summary but his field-generated age (the age that appears with your user name and city) was 58, meaning he probably opened an account years ago and forgot about it. When I asked Match about this, they said they keep all free accounts viewable to “expand their subscriber base.” In other words, free accounts are used to lure others in.
2. Nearly all of my “matches” did not adhere to my preferences and “deal breakers,” like gender (!), age range, ethnicity, and location. So what’s the point of filling out the preferences? 3. I immediately began receiving bizarre messages from men and women. They basically said the same thing, that they have a “friend crushing” on me and here’s their e-mail address. I received about 10 of these. Again, Match sent a blanket statement when I voiced my concerns. 4. Several times I realized some people had multiple accounts (same pics and summary, different user names). Again, another canned response from Match.
At that point I’d had it. I asked for a refund, and after some heated e-mails and a phone call from my credit card company, they relented and I received a refund after only one week after subscribing. BEWARE! Match does NOT delete or remove profiles of members who cancel and deactivate their memberships. When I cancelled and deactivated, a statement was sent via email that they “hold onto” cancelled memberships for one year “just in case.” That is downright wrong and scary.

Last year I joined Match and they charged me after I canceled my subscription which was resolved after a long hassle. I joined in 2018 knowing the steps to take when I wanted to cancel my subscription, I canceled it one month later after I join because I met someone. I went in and cancelled my subscription and took a photo of the screen that showed that I cancelled it and deleted my account. 6 months later I was charged!! I called them and they said I never canceled it. I know clearly now that they are scammers. They gave me a refund but kept $13 because they said the month already started - even though I never signed in for 6 months and thought my account was deleted this whole time! I told them that I want to be out of their system completely and to make sure my account was deleted! I would not be surprised if I get charged 6 months later lol - ridiculous and bad business practices!!

I tried Match.com for around 1-2 years. In that time I only got 1 message and when me and the girl started talking, she said I could call her and then hung up. Most of the women seem fake or have ulterior motives. This site is a total scam and a ripoff. There have been many class action lawsuits filed on this website and I am in no way surprised. I will be sticking to either the free sites where at least you're not wasting your money, or just date girl. Avoid Match like the plague. They will do you no justice. If you pay for this site, you will realize how screwed up it is. So many copied profiles and women who seem like bots.

At first, I went to Match.com out of curiosity filled in my email address and username but did not complete my profile. From then on, Match.com kept sending matches that cannot be viewed unless the subscription fee is paid. I paid my subscription fee for 3 months only to find out that the quality of match I was getting was not the ones that match my preference. I called Match.com if I could cancel my subscription but was told that it was not refundable. As I was about to log off, 3 matches suddenly appeared and seemed very interested in me. One was very persistent and said that he was new in Match.com and that his subscription was ending so he wanted to give me his email and phone number. I sent him a test mail with no message in it.
He used my email to communicate and introduced himself and sent pictures. He said he is a top notch international fund/investment manager, with MBA and educated in Germany and that I have nothing to fear as he does not have skeleton in the closet. His wife died and father died the same day when wife died over 8 years ago. His mother died last month after she went home to her birth place and that he has no more relatives except a 21 year old son who is with the Air Force and an aunt in France. After over month of communications and phone calls he talked me into joining him to invest in shares of stocks that he was trading. He promised to meet at certain dates only to tell me that he had another assignment to do.
I was asked to open a Non Resident Investment Checking Online Account with a bank in London. I was asked to wire the money to the investment company clearing house in the U.S. The bank in the U.K. opened the checking account for me for a day and stopped the test remittance I did, then the account was suspended as I was asked to remit 3% of my investment as tax clearance fee. When I asked for a copy of the stop payment, they could not produce any and then I was bombarded with phone calls from different numbers to hurry and remit the clearance money. I looked up the numbers and apparently used by scammers. This is the same number that conned quite a number of women in Match.com. The same story, different names and different pictures. From all indications, he has been using different pictures of different people.

I have been on Match for around a month. I get lots of views. Most men that write are from out of town, too young, too old, and foreign. The very young men write women without reading their profile. The older men try to get women much younger. The ones around your age just say Hello or How are you? or tell me more. Most men on Match get a lazy profile with equally bad photos. They are just checking it out. It amazes me that lazy profiles and lazy messages are so prevalent on Match. Almost all the men on Match need to pay someone to bring them into this decade of looks, clothing and how to date. Most women say the same thing.

I tried Match because I work a lot. So a family member suggested that I try the whole online dating scene. So, I thought I would give Match a try. Not even 5 min of having it, I had buyer's remorse. I tried to call and email with no luck of getting a hold of someone outside of their business hours of 8-5 m-f :(. Then when I looked at the matches, none of them matched what I really wanted. I've tried Eharmony in the past and had a similar situation of the whole buyer remorse and there was someone to talk to with no problem and they gave me a refund. I cannot believe that Match.com is like this. I wish I would have read the reviews before signing up with them. Now I am going to be out of money, because I thought I was signing up for a quality on-line dating service that ended up being a nightmare!!!

Paid for subscription and have not been able to log in for months. Finally I realized I'm paying for this and I can't even access the site. So I call. Sent emails to support at Match. Then next day I do a chat with someone and explain the problem. No help at all. Tells me she's going to escalate my issue to the people at Match.com. (So who have I been talking to? An outsourced service that doesn't care, obviously.) And at the end she abruptly end the chat. I downloaded the chat history... Then I call customer service and I get an outsourced person who is obviously in the Philippines. He rambles the responses he's reading off from his manual. No emotion and no intellectual understanding of what I'm tell him. Ends the call with, "I will inform tech support about your issue." So frustrate. After paying for months of service I have been able to log in on maybe twice in the last 3 months.

I found a Groupon for 74% off the normal price. There is NO COUPON OR PROMO CODE! Once you click on the Groupon it brings you to the Match.com site. (I had already signed up earlier, just not paid. I wanted to see how the site worked prior to buying. With limited access I was happy at the time.) I will do anything to save money. So, using the Groupon was the only reason I paid! I wasn't going to pay $131.94 for a dating site that I only got to see part of and there are plenty of free sites that I could use.
Per the Groupon, the discount would be applied at time of payment. I hit the "BUY" button on the Groupon app and was sent to match.com. I went to subscribe and entered my credit card info. Again, no promo code or coupon. Btw, I have screenshots of every step including capturing the pop up in Groupon regarding no coupon & billing. I was billed immediately $131.94 which was the Labor Day weekend sale of 25% off (6 month plan).
I had to wait until after the holiday weekend to call Match. They were rude, called me a liar, kept claiming there is a place for the promo code. When I asked where it was, I was told to read multiple times. This was after the first guy just put me on infinite hold. That's how their customer service team treats people. So, they claim I will get a credit. I still haven't. It's been two days. Of course they cut off my access before we ended the call.
So, I tried the Groupon again. Keep in mind I have the time and date stamped screen shots... it took the Groupon. But the cost was the same. Instead of being 25%, it read 60% off but it's still $21.99/ month. This is highly illegal and fraud! Not to mention I want to sue them for the abuse over the phone. And, if I don't get my credit by tomorrow I want to hire an attorney. If anyone else has had this happen to you... a class action lawsuit might be what this site needs to treat people with respect and not steal their money! I got an email today from Groupon asking if I was still interested in the 74% off Groupon. I did screenshots of that as well. How many people has this company defrauded?

Don't risk using Match.com unless you want them to be taking your money even after canceling the service. I've canceled twice and still no email confirmation or anything. You cancel and they just keep charging. I canceled the same month I joined because I didn't like the site and thought it was too expensive considering it was no better than the free ones. They still charged me for the following month even though I'd canceled. This is still unresolved. I don't know how they get away with ripping people off.

I thought Match.com was trustworthy. I was wrong. Nevermind the awful site interface that is far inferior to free-to-use competitors like OKCupid. Never mind the massive number of bot profiles, the search algorithm that's only slightly better than random. Never mind the shocking $30-a-month price tag. They are legitimate scam artists. They automatically renewed my subscription (after I went out of my way to turn that function off) and charged me for four months (!!!). Now I'm out $120 for a crap service that I never used. Please, don't use Match.com. Almost any other dating site would be a better use of your time and money. They are jackals who prey on saps like me- don't be their next victim.

I joined Match.com one day and the next day kept getting men who were overseas who wanted to continue chatting but not on Match.com, or replies with email addresses and phone numbers for me to call someone else they thought would be interested in me. I requested a refund from Match.com and was told they do not refunds even with the scammers. I have reported each scammer to Match.com as I get them since I am stuck with the membership until Oct 2018. Not my idea of a good dating service website. I tried them after being catfished and was surprised that not even a day went by and it all started all over again.

I signed up for Match.com and was able to browse around for a couple of hours. After uploading my photos they blocked my account and could not give me a reason for why it was blocked. Now I'm a ** male 54 years of age but I hold my age well so most people tell me I look to be in my 30s. Anyway I have emailed these people about 5 times asking why is my account blocked and today 8/22/2018 this lady stated that she would need to escalate it up as they had already done that when I created this account back in June of 2018. Yes there are other dating sites out there but this racial profiling needs to stop! therefore I have decided to seek legal action regarding this matter. Let's see how quick Match.com can get this corrected.

I am a healthy, highly educated man who believes he must go out on a lot of dates before considering anything serious. The women at this site are looking for a permanent partner right upfront. If you're a handsome fellow who works out and earns six figures you can choose hundreds. However, if you're average then this site won't help you.

I thought I might have a decent experience and at least make some new friends of the opposite sex. Most messages you send are never answered. Same profiles of the same people are sent to you over and over. They trick you into automatic renewals of your subscription. Make sure to go into setting and stop auto renewals. Then when you cancel at the end of your subscription... suddenly Match sends you daily emails of all the women who are suddenly interested in you. What a scam! You can't cancel the emails or get in touch with customer support unless you pay to subscribe again! Scammers should be put out of business.

I immediately deactivated my account since they're money hungry and don't have quality members!

Match.com is a joke. You do not have to actually “match” with people before you talk to them, so anyone can talk to you whether they are within your preference parameters or not. I am 19 years old, and 40-60 year old men were sending me flirty messages. I was so disgusted and disappointed and appalled by the fact that I could not control who saw my profile. Also, every single normal 19-22 year old guy that I tried to message, did not respond. I may not be the best at pick up lines and introductions, but I messaged around... oh I don’t know... 20 GUYS!!! And no one responded.
I alerted match.com of these things and begged them for my money back (a $60 refund!) and they basically told me that it was Apple’s problem because I had paid through iTunes. They also explained that the 40-60 year old men had different preferences than me and that is why they could see me... so basically they are all perverts! And they gave me all these reasons why the younger guys weren’t responding. They said, "Oh sometimes they aren’t on their profiles as much." (But everyone gets message notifications on the home screen) and they said other bogus excuses as well. So I’m about 90% sure that match.com is FULL OF CRAP so do yourself a favor and don’t waste $60 like I did - you will NOT find love here.
I did go on Bumble and actually met (in real life) a few people from there. Bumble is a FREE app that actually gives you results. I would also recommend Apple and Apple products... I emailed them, and explained my situation, and they were more than happy to deal with match.com's problem. Apple gave me a REFUND in full. Thank you Apple. Match.com, YOU SUCK! Bumble... I guess I’m going back to you.

I found my self accidentally signed up for Match.com. I immediately cancelled the subscription I had signed up for, and received a confirmation email that my account was closed. Both these events happened within 3 minutes of each other. The amount of the subscription, however was quickly withdrawn from my account. After a couple of weeks of not seeing the fee refunded, I called their customer service number. I was told that the "window to request a refund" was closed! WHAT? How can you send me a confirmation that my account has been closed, but keep my money?
After much complaining and demanding to speak with a supervisor, they say they have "gone out of their way" to refund my money. Excuse me? If you buy something then return it unused, would you NOT expect a full refund? And you have to specifically call them and request a refund? Nowhere in any email I received did they tell me they intended to keep my money. My advice to you is close your purse and move on.

For past experience in other bridal services, even if you are not a subscriber they let you see who has seen your profile, who has written you and even show you the letters. With Match.com there's not such a thing. You have to pay to see anything. They keep sending you that you're getting noticed, letters, etc, but you have to pay to see who sent you stuff or looked at your profile. Very deceiving. Do NOT recommend, don't waste your money just to find out those who wrote you or wink or whatever are not even even close to what you're looking for. It's a lottery. I joined another, saw who I liked, said hi, she sent me a letter, at least I know who she was. No guessing Match BS.

The commercials for this site suggest that customers are matched up using some sort of complicated compatibility system but this isn't really the case. You choose between a few generalized interests that are so broad they could mean almost anything. Thus the percentage of a "match" between two people is basically meaningless.
The site also features get togethers where you can meet other single people and the folks at Match control the ratios of men to women in order to try and get couples together. Sounds great right? Well the problem is that your membership does not cover the cost of these get togethers so you are paying out of pocket. I can understand that for a cruise, but for some sort of local meet and greet charging money after they already took your money once before can only be described as a scam in my opinion.
Speaking of scams, a good deal of the profiles seem to be fake. Multiple women with different pictures that have an identical username and profile pop up for me all the time. Match even sends me emails to let me know that these pretend women are eager to meet me. I would assume this strategy is to keep people paying for their service on the hope that they will meet someone there. Then there are the predatory users. While I admit this isn't entirely Match.com's fault there are people using the service who are trying to take advantage of lonely people. I would encourage people who are considering using Match.com to look elsewhere. Look for local meetups in your area and go out to meet people that way.

So being on the dating market for some time I decided to give Match.com a chance. I did the 6 month plan with "match guaranteed." I built the account and put in everything and sent out messages on a regular basis. On that note, I had one response that got only a few messages in before it went dead in the water. After a year of trying to use it, I never had a successful match on the site.
A large issue I also had on the site was I put in as a deal killer "Does not want kids" as I have no desire to have children. 8/10 of the daily matches were "wants kids." You're doing a pretty poor job on finding good matches if you're ignoring the deal killers for a person when you go "hey, here are some folks that we think would be good matches for you." It would be similar to telling your friends you do not do well at dating very religious people, then having them set you up with a person who is in church 4 nights a week and bases their daily lives on scripture. To each their own, but ignoring someone when they say "I don't want to date x types of people" is piss poor matchmaking.
"Unless you fit into a particular appearance." Reason I mention that is online dating how you look more often than not ranks very heavily on if someone will just glaze past your profile or take a closer look. Online people seem to often be much pickier on appearance than say at a bar or something similar. Is it a bad thing? Not really. Everyone is entitled to their own physical preferences. Someone should be with the person that makes them happy and if part of what makes them happy is based on their appearance then more power to them. All in all, I've had better luck on the free sites than Match.com. Don't waste your money. Their customer service when you bring up the issues run copy and paste generic answers.

Recently I paid for a three month membership in hopes that using a paid membership site would have better results that the free sites like POF. Guess what? I was completely wrong. Ironically I received hardly any scam messages on POF but on Match, 100% of the messages I received were from women 30 to 40 years younger than me. I corresponded with one of them and after a few meaningless exchanges, the woman asked me for my phone number to text me. I gave it to her and she sent me a text. After three or four meaningless text exchanges, I received the following text, "Give me your email address so that I can tell you more about myself and send you some pictures." I replied, "Thanks but no thanks." I am no dummy (except for giving her or him; who knows) my phone number.
The ploy is to entice the poor lonely sap (not me, well not a sap lol) by sending soft porn pictures and getting their sucker to pay for hardcore porn photos. Maybe they just take the money and send nothing but I will never know that. My main point is Match.com is a money making conglomerate that cares nothing about their customers. I read about a class action lawsuit out of Chicago, Illinois that is suing Match.com for everything I described plus more. The suit claims that Match.com creates fake profiles of beautiful women to entice men to come back to their site after canceling.
I saw photos of the same young woman that had several different names and profiles. I hope this class action suit takes a good chunk of money from Match. Lastly, I emailed Match requesting a refund for the reasons I wrote above. I told them if I did not receive a refund, I would contact my bank that issued my credit card and contest the charges as well as report them to the Better Business Bureau and post on review sites with what my experience was. To my amazement, I received an email informing me that they were going to issue me a full refund. You think they may have refunded my money because of the class action lawsuit? I forgot to mention that the lawsuit was filed recently in May of 2018.
Match.com might work for young people in their 20s and 30s but I promise you that it would be a fluke to meet someone you were interested in meeting if you are over 60. I hope everyone realizes that match.com owns practically every dating website that you can think of; there are a few exceptions like eHarmony.com. Forget about eHarmony as well as that is another review.

I called, Indian accent person. I explain her the charge, she try to get my personal info, still insist about to ask my birth date, email account, card number. My question was, "I closed the account, I have confirmation, How did you access my account and keep charging?" She says "I authorized them to update my account". I said "Whattt? I did not authorized you any update, How did you get my new credit card number? I never open a new account or else."
No explanation other than this. Do not open account with them. You won't get any match, also some members from far away, overseas, some asking money or gifts. Suggestions if you continue using. But I rather not. You want to find partner? Go to clubs, supermarket, car shows, events, festivals, more family parties. Do not use your bank card or Credit card for these services, Get a prepaid card and just deposit manual from the sources, do not connect to your original accounts.
Change your phone or get simple cheap phone to register to your bank. Paying extra $25 a month for phone service better than paying $80.97 per mo. for these scammers. Open one email account that registered to your bank but do not use this email to nowhere. Do not use your original birth date, make it one day up or down, do same for the year. Keep every copy of mails from these scammers. Read the fine prints. Do not answer every member they match you cause some of them, them self to get your personal data.

First look at it this way... Match does not want you to "match" with someone. Each time there is a match they lose two paying customers. Multiply that by the number of people who subscribe, along with the people who get burned out. It is a losing business model. Secondly, (and more personal), I've recently tried "match boost" because I've noticed I really wasn't getting many people looking at my profile. Again... another scam. I paid $20.00 and it produced absolutely nothing! Going back to "views"... Even though I'm listed as "online now" I hardly ever get profile views. It's like my profile doesn't even exist. I'm not a male model, but far from horrible. So If you're truly looking for find someone I would stay away. It's all a numbers game for them. The longer you're on, the longer you pay!

I believe Match has become a total ripoff. I signed up on June 12th. Immediately received MANY fake profile messages but reported and deleted them and they quit coming in after a few days. However, every day Match sends me 24 profiles and I write to all the ones I think might be interesting guys (I am straight female, 67). This means that I've sent over a hundred in 12 days. I wasn't getting many replies. I went to my "sent" messages and discovered that going all the way back to the 12th, there remain over FIFTY that said "not yet read". How is this even possible, if they are real and current profiles and not fake or deleted. I wrote customer service and have not yet gotten any response. (I will say the few who have replied seem genuine and fine.) I'd say stay away and stick with OKC or POF - at least if you get crappy service you're not out any money.

I decided to get a Match after all the other free apps failed. I don’t get to meet new people often and figured I would pay to see if I can find someone special. I spent much time into creating my best profile, including details on what I’m looking for, the kind of person I am and all kinds of pictures to show I am really serious about it. I logged on yesterday to be informed my profile was blocked my Match because “I was harassing someone”. I was FURIOUS. I had two dates waiting for me to reply to them, and my account was just blocked. I called Match customer service, and they were even WORSE. I was hung up on over 10 times & Half the people I spoke with said they could not disclose why my profile was blocked. This is BULL.
One person told me I was sending nude pictures, which is impossible because you can’t send pictures to anyone on that site, and I’m not buying a dating app to play games. Another told me that I should just sign up with another account. HELLO I’ve already paid and gone through over 500 people of about 3 months time that weren’t for me and now they were telling me to pay again and make a new profile and start over... (Which honestly makes no sense because why would you tell me to just remake it again if I was “harassing” people???) I was OUTRAGED. I insisted on speaking to a manager because I know for a fact I didn't do anything wrong. I used the app religiously and felt very close to meeting someone who could actually be the one. They tore it away from me, gave me no explanation, and NEVER did the correct investigation to see if I was really harassing people.
I was also told I wouldn’t get a refund in the email sent to me about my account being blocked because I wasn’t following the privacy policy. I’m still waiting on a callback and after reading these other comments about Match I can tell I won’t be getting an explanation. Unless you want to be scammed by Match, don't get this app!!! HORRIBLE customer service, they take your money and block your account with no details on why!! Your business should be shut down for harassing its customers. I want a callback, I want an explanation, I want to be refunded, or unblock my account so I can finish the months I paid for. DO NOT CONSIDER MATCH FOR DATING, ANYTHING ELSE WOULD DO, IT'S NOT WORTH IT!!

I signed up to Match with a 3-month sub in hope to find someone. Recently, I hid my profile. I had business to attend to and I wasn't able to be on the site for a few days. I hid my profile on the site and the app. That means no one can view it and no one can search me. Well, just a few hours later I received notification that someone was interested in me. That's impossible, I hid my profile. I went back to the site to make sure everything was set as I left it. Yup and also 3 other people viewed my hidden profile. Just more fake profiles made up by Match to keep people "interested".
I would also like to point out the number of likes and interest I have got over the past month. I send a message to said interest party, no response. I recently checked my list of people I also sent a like or interest in, suddenly the majority have hidden their profiles or they're unavailable. Match is a scam. Nothing more. They continue to do the same things that they got busted for years ago.

I joined because... not any good reason I guess, except wanting to meet someone. Plus they had a special for three months. Which is what I signed up for. They weren't real happy when I canceled immediately so I wouldn't forget the auto renewal. Right off the bat there were strange profiles of young girls, between 25 and 30. Young to me. I'm 65. Sending me their picture with their phone number written on the photo. Now how does that get past their strict review of all photos posted. Not once have they let anything I posted go without reviewing it. So how does one slip one past the big kahuna. Unless someone in management is in cahoots with the scammers. I have had 10 to 15 young girls with phone numbers across their picture.
I have had a man write to me and tell me about his best friend who so happens to live in the same town I live in. I have had women write to me or me to them. But they only write one sentence for answers on anything that I ask. And they don't ever ask you any questions. I noticed that I was writing 2 or 3 paragraphs, to her one. I feel cheated and I don't think 99% of these people are even real. I have complained about the emails and profiles I have received. Even told them what I thought about some on from match in partners with the scammers. They really don't want to hear it. They want you to use the block user button. Problem goes away for you but does nothing for the next guy that may not be suspicions as I.
With all these good looking women wanting them it may be hard to resist and could lose their life savings. Match has this algorithm set up for the email you send them. It intercepts your mail to give you answers to the keywords you have used, that way the front office doesn't have to be bothered. I had pictures or screenshots of the women I am talking about. They are on my computer somewhere but I can't find them. If you are thinking about dating again do use Match.com. I wouldn't use any of them. What happened to truth in advertising? It somehow has been forgotten and not enforced so you can claim anything, sell it and not to worry make billions.

When I tried to log in to make sure I could cancel my subscription, my login wasn't working. When I tried resetting the password, I never got a link in my email to reset it. I chatted with a representative after numerous tries and was informed that the security team detected suspicious activity on my account and that my previous account is completely unrecoverable.
She then went on to say that she turned off automatic billing for my account. When pressed about how she could do that if my account was unrecoverable, she wouldn't elaborate. When I asked why I wasn't notified about the suspicious activity, she wouldn't elaborate. When I asked if there was a data breach, she wouldn't elaborate. I then found out that Match had a problem back in April 2018 about old accounts becoming active again. When I asked about that in the context of a data breach, she wouldn't elaborate. Now that Match.com only made $1.2 billion dollars in 2017, it has become the national and probably international market dominator, they do not like to give full refunds for accidental subscription, purchases, 8 yrs ago they did. So what Match does is if you've subscribe in the past, in my case one year ago. If you are not currently subscribed, and you cruising profiles they have a one click purchase screen with a 6 months membership $132 already pre checked, and your credit card info. So if you click on emailing someone and you're not currently subscribed the screen will pop up, whatever you do, do not click it. Hit the back key, otherwise you end up with $132 charge.
Also, they did not send me an email confirming my Match subscription and the charge on my credit at time of clicking. I found out the next day by checking my bank account online. I HIGHLY SUGGEST IF YOU GET ON MATCH DO SO FROM YOUR PC, their mobile purchase procedures border on deceptive business practices.

I responded in shock wanting to know what I did wrong and their arrogant response was "get a search warrant and subpoena us to court if you want to know why we canceled your account". I did nothing wrong like use profanity, revealing photos, nor harass anyone.
I know that my ex-girlfriend stalked me on Match right before I was terminated as I saw where she viewed my profile a day or two before I was termed. I believe she (a non-paying viewer) made an erroneous complaint to Match about my account as a retaliation effort since I broke up with her a month before. If so, they took her word and didn't justify why they did this to me. Ironically, my POF account got deleted the next day also and I saw where she viewed my profile there also so I know why this happened.
As for the money I was out, I filed a complaint with my CC company and they refunded me the two months I prepaid that MATCH refused to refund me. I did meet a really nice woman from Match (in the short month I had an account) however, we mutually didn't have a 2nd date but was happy to have met her. My advice is to steer clear of Match. They would make you pay extra for the value package and promise you that your profile will be highlighted, but it is not true. I tried each of the packages and each time I still have to pay an extra $2.99 per day (for my profile to be highlighted so many people can contact me) after I have already paid for an expensive subscription. They probably will never highlight your profile unless your subscription is about to expire just to keep you paying. The discount that they offer is not a genuine discount. It is their way of getting people to subscribe. Nothing but a scam… Do not subscribe.

I want to break down my experience so far with Match.com into two basic pieces. The first part is the system itself. Like many have eluded so far, there is a constant barrage of upgrades. I decided to go for the 6 month subscription. About 1.5 months in, I've sent out hundreds of messages I'm not sure if the profiles are real or if they're not interested. Many seem to be "unread". I also think it's crazy that people think the perfect person is within 50 miles or whatever from their location.
Anyways, the filtering is very mechanical and people are basically turned into stats. So really, if you want to try it, you pretty much have to turn off the filters in order to get as many matches as possible. Many women seem to go with the "free option" and so it's my understanding they can't reply. I didn't pay extra so they can respond based on other reviewers here. I found that I was constantly bombarded with upgrade messages, it was awful. It seemed like a waste of money to me.
The second part is about the people. I'm not a tall man - and I'm okay with it. IN real life, I am sociable and meet new friends. If you're under 5'9" then you might want to spend some money learn how to dance or something and put your self out there in the RL. All the stuff that the women put on their profile about wanting honesty, a sense of humour... someone who isn't shallow, won't matter if you get filtered out based on stats. Even the women that are like 5'0 were looking for men over 5'9. It was kind of insane and if you're not strong on who you are, it can beat the crap out of your own confidence.
I'm also separated, which was a negative point for many who would have rather me not be married or divorced. I managed to connect messages with one who thought I was a "good guy" but didn't want to get involved unless I was divorced. I think the funniest reply I got after pouring my heart out was - "Your message was well thought out and written..." I appreciated the honesty that I got, but two replies out of so many sent? Considering many women complained about the pervs, losers, liars, or one word messages, it's pretty interesting that when I'd write to them, I'd get nothing back. I'm okay with not being their "type" whatever that is - but I think it's honestly kind of rude not to answer back.
My hope is that when I cancel my subscription - I won't get charged again! I don't care about the refund issue. It sucks, but that is the way it is set up and you agree to it when you set it up. Just check your credit statement and make sure they're not overcharging you or running up charges for nothing. Beyond that, the people that seem to suck just come out in droves to take advantage of those who are looking for their perfect match. Spend your money on something like a singles events club - then at least you meet them for real so that is a way better start than expending your energy on endless messages and pictures to only find out it's fake or they're not real.

I signed up on Match.com in March of 2016. Between that time and now (June 2018) I have had contact with four people: one lived in another country, two others were scammers using some kind of automated chat bot, and the other person was 20 years younger than me. The first three were within the first couple of weeks of me signing up for the site, and the last one was about a month ago. In between, nothing.
If you live in a small town, don't bother with Match.com. You'll get the same tiny handful of "matches" over and over with people who haven't been on the site in months and are using cut and paste one-sentence biographies; sometimes you'll see the exact same bio five or six times in a row. Despite being able to specify what you're looking for (and not looking for) in a match when searching, you'll still get matches with people who don't fit your search criteria. Examples: if you're looking for non-smokers and non-drinkers you'll still get matched with smokers and drinkers; look for agnostics or non-religious and you'll get matched with Bible-thumpers; search for certain physiques and you'll get matched with people who *don't* have the physique you're interested in. What's the point of having a detailed way of filtering search results if you still get matched with anyone?
And if you do find someone who seems like a good match, chances are they live hundreds of miles away from you. This will sound cynical, but if you see a person with an attractive profile picture on Match chances are that person is a scammer trying to swindle you out of your money and the picture was found by typing "hot women" (or "hot men") into Google image search. One person I was matched with had a picture of the actress Blake Lively on her profile. Lively is married, so she's probably not using Match.
Lots of attractive people have looked at my profile, but when I clicked on their profile it was gone because the person was probably a scammer who got caught and had their profile deleted. Match is full of predators who are only interested in one thing: your credit card number. And when the person is real, half the time their profile picture is of their dog or a tree. Other times the pictures are obviously years old. Or there's no picture at all. Sometimes these people are escorts looking for clients.
Unlike other reviewers, I didn't have any problems cancelling my membership. But when you do cancel you'll start getting emails from Match saying you've got a bunch of "likes" and "favorites" to try and entice you to sign up again; you can't see who these people are without paying first, though. Wow, what a coincidence I started getting notifications from interested people two days after my membership expired! This happened more than once, so it's obviously a ploy by Match to get you to renew your membership again. Don't make the same mistake I did. Twice. Fool me once... Instead of spending money on Match.com, take that money and go to a bar or strip club. You'll at least get something for your money and you might even find your perfect "match." That's what I should have done. Disillusioned.

They don't care a single iota about their customers and, after a quick Google search I discovered they have a nasty habit of blocking accounts for no reason. I created an account, tried to message someone, (not realizing you have to be subscriber) and then just kept getting error messages on and off before I was finally blocked from logging in at all. I thought surely it's just a glitch, so I tried again with a different e-mail address. I was blocked before I'd even finished setting up my account. I thought surely it's just because I'm not subscribed and since I couldn't log in to purchase a subscription, I set up yet another account but this time subscribed up front.
Same thing happened again. I can't log in, can't do anything. I have not violated Terms and Conditions in any way, shape or form (how would I? I initiated a 3 month subscription with Match.com back in July 2015, and used PayPal as a payment. At the time, I was lead to believe that this was an UPFRONT payment that was to use the service for 3 months and then it`s done. I have continuously been charged every 3 months, since December 2015 at total of $71.95 US. Paypal records show they have withdrawn $863.65 US in the last 3 YEARS!! Unknown to me, their ~terms~ in small print auto-subscribe you! It`s by NO MEANS a ~one-time fee~. I called their customer service center, and the rep confirmed for me that my last recorded activity on the site was back in Oct 2015, which makes sense, since I thought I was done the 3 months (July 28th-October) and was NOT interested in returning. After that, they just kept billing me every 3 months!! He did return my last billed amount of $71.95 US, but what about the other $790 bucks??!!
DO NOT SUBSCRIBE to this company under any circumstances. What kind of company puts in an auto-subscribe into a pre-billed 3 month fee?? Auto-subscribe should always be something the customer voluntarily checks himself, since you are handling someone`s financial information. In my opinion, this is a misuse of financial information for the purpose of automatically securing financial gain from people who are either not reading the super-fine print, or missing the ~so called~ terms altogether. Shame on me for not spotting this sooner and that it took this long to notice. But I use Paypal sporadically and was not checking my account enough. Either way, it should have never happened.

I joined less than a week ago, and have received phishing emails numerous times daily. Every single one of these emails has been that a person has already found a match, but his or (usually) her friend saw my profile and want me to call or email him. At this rate, I have no idea which emails are legitimate and which ones are scams. I have called Match.com's customer service numerous times to search for resolution or a refund, but they refuse to let me speak to a manager, and then usually hang up on me (and I am not being rude). They have disabled the service I paid for without my consent. I am totally floored at the lack of professionalism and customer service they have shown paid customers. I would never recommend this service to ANYONE. RUN!

Very unsatisfied! I too, like many other reviewers, paid for a 3 month subscription. During that three month period, checking my daily matches mind you, I received no responses from any of my matches or anyone I messaged for that matter. The only responses I got were from guys who didn’t fit my preferences at all. Don’t waste your time on this dating site. You’re just throwing away money.

First of all the app is filled with many fake accounts. I paid for a 3 month subscription and didn't even speak with one person let alone meet anyone in person. So I canceled my account (or at least I thought since I had a page showing me "subscription canceled") only to find out on my auto-renewal date that I only canceled the add-on feature to my account. I didn't even know I had an add-on feature, nor did I know that I would have to go to two locations to cancel my account. I tried calling them to explain that I tried to cancel my subscription and it was unclear I had to hit cancel in two different locations, and they stated "I understand your frustration but we cannot give you a full refund, we have to charge you for this month". I literally called them within 10 hours of my card being charged and they still charged me $35 for a month of service I will never use. Complete ripoff. Buyer Beware.

I asked for 34-38 5 miles outside of Chicago. What I got was divorcees in their 60s all over the country! Called twice and they assured me it was fixed. It never was. They just shuffled me off. eHarmony was amazing and excellent service! I will happily go back. Burn in hell, Match.

Signed up today after reviewing what little I could on the site the night before. Upon subscribing, realized that in the hours since my profile was created, the MATCH system began sending out what they call 'YES' ratings on my behalf. I could not delete these ratings. I used the online 'chat' customer service to get them to delete them. The person on their end instead deleted the few YES ratings I had received even though I clearly noted that I was referring to the Sent folder not the Received and that there were over a dozen of them.
No recovery of that info (though I gather since this experience that the company manages to keep all our profile info even after we delete our accounts). They were not able to remove the YES ratings that their system sent out 'on my behalf' nor did they own any responsibility at first trying to blame me. I must have accidentally sent these ratings out. I corrected them as I had no idea what marking YES would do (and their FAQ doesn't clarify either). So as I told them, I only removed possible matches, accepting none as I previewed the night before. They then tried to get me to clean my browser history. I asked why. They didn't have an explanation. In the end, they refunded my hours-old subscription and put me back into basic service status, which is useless. I have edited my profile to explain their system glitch and that I'll be removing my account shortly. Least I hope I will be able to delete content.
I would NOT recommend this site to ANY female friends. Oh and the first message I received did feel like a scam message. Someone in BC asking me to contact their friend in TO who had seen my profile and really liked it. Oh and they were going to delete their profile as they had found someone. A lot of BS that I ignored. The other kicker is I live in a small community and among the YES ratings that were sent out from me by MATCH include two to people that would recognize me on the street, one of whom I have heard about and would never have contacted. When he popped up in my search field, I deleted him immediately. MATCH did the opposite and sent him a YES rating from me. UGH. What a world we've created for ourselves. Three strikes and they are out. So much for online dating.

I have been on Match.com several times since 2012. While initially, it yielded some decent communication with assorted men in a reciprocating fashion, I haven't found that to be the case over the past couple of years. I'm sure that, as Match gained popularity over the years, they built quite an impressive database of users. The problem I have found and heard from others using the site is that even after you unsubscribe, your profile remains up on their site. I have never successfully found a way to permanently remove my profile from their site. So, what does Match do with all those non-active but not removed accounts?
One thing they certainly do is give the impression that there are more "active" members on their site than there really are. I know they were part of a class action lawsuit pertaining to fake profiles, scammers, etc. that was dismissed. And I know that in an effort to reflect legitimate members, Match has now added features where it shows if someone has read your message, and when the last time that "someone" was online. But how do we know that the person "sitting behind" the account that has recently been online is ACTUALLY the real person in the profile?
My question is, does Match use inactive member accounts to actively communicate with and deceive current members? Because from what I'm seeing, I think they may. Besides getting frequent messages from scammers and men WAY OUTSIDE of my age range (by 20-30 years!) here's something I'm starting frequently seeing on my account.
I see a man I'm interested in. I see that he's been online in the past hour, couple of hours, twenty-four hours, etc. (so, I assume his is not a dormant account). I write him. The next day I see that he has read my message. Then I see that he's online or has been in the past several hours yet I've gotten no response. I get it, we can't ALL be a match with everyone else on Match. But when I've written over a dozen men in one week and I see the exact same pattern, it starts making me wonder. And it gets me thinking...
Has Match gone out and recovered/reactivated a ton of old deactivated accounts (unbeknownst to the original owner) and employed offshore people to sit around all day, logging into those accounts (to give the appearance that people are online), and read emails received from paying members (to give the impression that there is a mutual interest)? Because that's what I'm starting to think.
I'm not a model but am also not ugly. I'm 55 but have been told I look to be in my 40s. I'm 5'8" and fit. I have 13 current photos (2 years old or less and the most current being from the present month) on my profile including clear and close up ones and full-length ones. My profile is creative and thorough. I'm college educated, an empty-nester, fun, outgoing, etc. -- just like lots of other people. So, are there really just DOZENS of men on Match who simply don't have the manners to respond to an email with a simple, "No thank you"?
I really think it's a well-crafted scam to keep paying members interested. You see someone has read your email... you see they've been online recently... and your hopes are built up that you'll get a reply. All to no avail. And then of course after I cancel my subscription (and like others have reported), I start getting all the emails from Match telling me about all the men that are interested in me, messaged me, etc. -- all in an effort to get me to rejoin.
My account expires on May 5th and I will NEVER join Match.com (or other sites like them) again. It's been a horrible experience (and I haven't even mentioned the messages I've received from men/scammers over the past six years asking for naked photos, to be friends with benefits, wanting to just sext, requests for threesomes with their girlfriends, etc. Also, why does Match offer the opportunity to delineate what age range I am interested in when men 20-30 years older than me can still write me? I am 55 and actually received a message from an 85-year-old man whose message literally read, "I'm a few years older than you..." A few?! Ya think?! I'd love to hear what others think about my insinuations regarding Match.com using inactive accounts to communicate with/deceive current members. Exacerbated in Colorado.

I had joined other sites and had men to ask for money and I said no, but listening to this scam artist he got me, hooked, line and sinker. Yes it's my fault, but when I tried to contact Match, I got no response and I had to file for bankruptcy and to say it's been difficult is an understatement. I'll be out of this by the end of the year and can't wait. When I found out it was a person or persons from Ghana I got so angry. They apparently used a person military info to fool me and I actually found out who he was and was going to contact him, but I didn't.
Ladies and men don't fall for it!!! PLEASE!! If they say they're in the army, make them prove it or they have a child who father mother passed, don't be quick to believe. Don't give your personal info out. I wish I could have gotten in contact with someone at Match to take this person image off the site. This enterprise has the ability to retrieve and remove my previous saved emails (from Heather), from my Yahoo account, without my knowledge... until, two hours later, I go back to re-read the saved emails. Gone! When I witnessed this, it made me so angry.
I reported this to Match security dept., made "formal" complaint, and asked for a report back as to their findings. Their response: no duty to provide me with the findings. (oh really, I thought. You're in league with the criminal "members"!). And for some sent messages it shows "Not Yet Read" to mean had not been delivered altogether. The customer service representatives are so unhelpful due to very strict and un-transparent policies. Be careful with MATCH.com! What they do is they secretly house your password and store your back information so that when you click on their website they actually push through and charge you for membership when you don't even sign up for it and here's what I mean by that. Basically I signed up for a membership and I canceled it so I would not be on a revolving membership; when I went back in to look at their membership I chose not to continue as a member, however they went ahead and push through my membership when I was no longer on a revolving membership. I clearly canceled out as a revolving membership. But they pushed it through because they had saved my password information and I called PayPal which they went ahead and they actually believed MATCH.com. I called my credit card company and they believed MATCH.com.
Now mind you I'm the consumer and they believed MATCH.com over me and I showed my companies that I clearly canceled out the revolving membership which should have showed that they could not push through my membership without me going in and clicking in and putting in my password and selecting how I wanted to pay. That was my issue with MATCH.com. I was never allowed to go in and put in my password and actually click my payment; so as you can see it's a total scam with MATCH.com. I will never ever use a online dating membership. It's really sad that you have to fight with these companies when they clearly store your information.
It's becoming really bad with online stuff to use and if we go to online this is one of the issues that we're going to have to deal with so I hate to really see brick and mortars being destroyed because online issues like this will continue to happen and consumers will no longer have any power we will be charged over and over again because companies will be able to house our information in their computers and we will have nothing to stand on because our credit card companies will not believe us they will believe the companies over us.

I had a Match profile over 10 years ago. It was active for about a week and then I canceled it. Here I am, 10 years later, eating breakfast with my wife and daughter, when I start to receive emails from Match saying that people are looking at my profile and sending me messages. After a few minutes of panic investigation, I realized that without warning, Match reopened my profile. There it was, in all its glory. The photo of me in my Mom's basement, all my profile information intact. Luckily, my wife has a sense of humor. I learned later that friends of my wife saw it and considered contacting her to let her know I was trying to cheat. When a user cancels a profile, they get the message: "Your account has been deactivated, but we'll hang on to your sign-in info for one year just in case."
Apparently not. I went back and forth with Match for several days and feel bad for the poor customer service rep I dealt with. It seems that after 1-year it still just sits there. How does a company of this size, who specializes in facilitating relationships, cause an issue that could possibly wreck an existing relationship?

I did not want to pay a subscription fee until I knew whether I was comfortable with the site etc. And I also wondered about customer service if I had issues. So settled on the free week trial. The rep that signed me up for it made sure to tell me when I would need to cancel by so as not to be charged. She also told me if I canceled early the remaining days would still be available till the period was up. Wrong. I canceled 3 days before my week was up. Have not been able to use remaining 3 days. When I canceled online I was given a confirmation number and a message that clearly states the remaining days I could still send and receive messages. Again wrong.
So I called and spent a really long time on phone yesterday. Was told several times that if you cancel the free trial before end date you lose remaining dates. When pressed about whether it was false verbal advertising plus a refusal to honor what they sent in writing the rep kept saying we don't allow the remainder of the days. I asked for a manager. Was put on hold 4 times. Never got to talk to a manager. Rep finally said I could use my remaining days when I pointed out to him that no I still could not. He offered a few troubleshooting ideas which did nothing towards allowing me to open read messages and respond. He finally said it would need to go to technical.
Received message from tech support late morning today saying they could not address individual issues. And good luck. So called again. First rep said my connection was bad, to call back so did that. Second rep a woman have me same song and dance about how I could not use the remaining days now down to 2. So I asked her if she was saying they would not honor what they had said. Guess what? I got put on hold for awhile. She came back. Said they needed me to send a picture of my SS of their message. So she gives me an email address to send it to. An email address that does not work. So I go onto their site send a message via the link there. It will take 48 to 72 hours to respond. Wow. Just wow. I'm glad I did not leap to buy into a monthly subscription. Because it is obvious they do not value their customer base at all.

They currently advertise on TV: "Text 'Match' to 33898 and receive a 7-days free membership". I did so and created a profile, posted my photos, and then I also had to give them my credit card data and agree to be billed for at least one-month membership ($ 40), for which my credit card will be billed at the expiration of the 7-days trial membership, unless I cancel the membership before the expiration of those 7 days of trial. (You need to cancel it while being logged into your account.) If you do not give them your credit card data and you do not agree to pay for at least one month of their membership, they do not give you those 7 days of free trial membership that they promise in their TV advertisement, which makes their promise a willful misleading of customers - i.e. fraud and deception – and I was disappointed but this turned out to have been only the first of the many scams they do.
A couple of hours after I had paid for Match.com membership, my log-in was rejected and a pop-up window informed me that Match.com blocked my access to my account and I should send an email to their resolution center, which would respond in 2 days and fix the issue, unless it was a weekend because they do not work during weekends. Since it was Friday afternoon, my problem would remain unresolved for 3 days, I realized, and I would be thus left with only 4 days of my free trial membership. The same pop-up window informed me that I was also not entitled to a phone number of their customer service, which could resolve the issue faster (because it was still during the working hours on Friday), but which only the paying members may receive and talk to the customer service... but I WAS a paying member and yet they denied my rights to me. This was the third disappointment and deception but there were still more to come.
Since I could not understand why they had blocked me from accessing my account – and there was no reason for it whatsoever because neither my photos nor the text of my profile were offensive and I did not violated any rules - I tried to find some answers on Internet and checked if anyone else had encountered similar problems and how they resolved them.
It turned out that many other customers had experienced exactly the same issues - the access to their accounts was blocked as soon as they had agreed to be billed for a membership once the free trial period would expire - and from the posted complaints I also learned that those members' attempts to cancel their accounts and prevent the future Match.com's charges were futile too because Match.com kept denying their access to their accounts and kept telling them that only by being logged-in to their accounts they could cancel the future charges. Wow, it became obvious that Match.com might be doing these things deliberately and willfully defrauding people – and repetitively so - wow...
I sent an email to the address they provided and I described both my issue and the fact that I found also many other cases of the same kind on Internet... and that since there was no reason for the block of my access to my Match.com account, it could indeed be a scam... and that I demanded that they either immediately re-instate my access and membership or cancel my account and they should accept my said email as a written cancellation, since they were preventing my cancelation while being logged-in to my account... and that I was going to hand this matter to the police as a deception, fraud and attempted theft, unless they fix it within 48 hours.
Within less than 48 hours, they responded (even though it was Saturday) and explained that blocking my access was their mistake - a technical problem, they said - and that my access to my account was re-established. I tried to log-in and it indeed worked but my free membership was dismissed and I could not send or read emails... which made my access to my account and my membership useless... which I told them and requested that they restored also my 7-day free trial membership that they took away with that "technical error". They refused to do so, however, and offered a 3-day free membership, instead – more than half less than what they had promised – which again felt like a betrayal and deception.
I believed that this all might indeed be a planned scam that Match.com repeatedly carries out. In disillusionment, distrust and fear for new possible deceptions, I canceled my membership while I still could because I was again logged-in and my membership was still in the trial period that allowed cancellation. Since I am a thorough person and I am also not inclined to wrongful judgments, I wanted to find out what the truth was: whether or not Match.com indeed intentionally scams people and tries to steal their money. So I once again texted "Match" to 33898 and I received a 7-days free trial membership, upon which I created a new profile, posted my photos and Match.com again approved both my photos and my profile text. They also once again demanded my credit card and would bill me for 1-month membership if I did not cancel my membership within those 7 days of trial membership.
Guess what? My access was once again blocked a couple of hours after I created my profile, got both my profile and my photos approved by Match.com, and paid for the membership... I again received a note "send email to customer service to resolve the issue" and they again denied me the phone conversation with customer service, and they said they would respond to my email and resolve the issues in 2 days... They did not respond in two days, and also not in three days, so I wrote another email to them and demanded that they re-establish my access to my account or to cancel my account and my membership payment, since they were preventing me from logging into my account and canceling it by myself... and by that point in time I was sure already that this was indeed a recurring, willful deception that Match.com keeps performing and more: their PLANNED THEFT.
Since Match.com did not answer any of my emails and my requests to resolve this issue also in the next three days, I called my bank, explained the entire horrible experience to them, and they suggested canceling my credit card to protect me from Match.com's abuse and theft. They would also make a police report about Match.com's abuse, scams, fraud and deceptions, they said. Stay away from Match.com not only because they lie, deceive, steal your money, block you log in and ignore your requests to fix the issues but also because they have WAY LESS MEMBERS than they say they do! About two thirds of the profiles are fake: made up profiles of non-existent people, or profiles of people that canceled their memberships many years ago already.

I took out a Match subscription last year. I cancelled it almost immediately specifically to ensure that automatic renewing was turned off and that is the only way that it can be done. I used my purchased and paid for 3 months and then did not renew the subscription. I removed the app from my phone/computer and turned off notifications and email contact from Match. I just got an alert from my credit card company that Match had just charged me for 3 more months. I had only recently started getting alerts from my credit card company. I went back and checked my bills and was shocked to see that Match has continued to charge me all of these past months. Stupid me for not checking my bills sooner.
I called your service department and was informed that the cancellation did not go through last year and there was no footprint to show I had requested a cancellation. I have talked to several friends that have used Match and was surprised to discover that I was not the only person that this exact same thing had happened to. I am not sure what your policy on this is but I was surprised the person that I spoke to was not allowed to connect me with anyone higher up the company than herself.
I was offered a $20.00 (paid 97.00 Canadian every three months) refund which I declined. She told me that she could take down my concern and forward it on but that I would get no response and no one would be able to refund me any more than $20.00. After quite a roundabout conversation I believe that I was told that if I email from the Match website my concern will go to someone other than her department. The fact that Match has NO way for a client to appeal a dispute or even formally register one (with feedback) is revealing. I expect a full refund for all money paid to Match after my initial payment. I have no idea where this email will end up but I hope it ends up with someone who actually cares. Thank you for any help you can give me. I TRIED TO SEND THIS EMAIL TO MATCH THROUGH THEIR WEBSITE AND NO MATTER WHAT I DID IT WOULD NOT GO THROUGH. Buyer beware - Match doesn't care!!

Match.com does nothing to protect its customers. No background checks. No identity verification. Users can create profiles with whatever name they want to make up. Any identity they choose to be. I met someone from Match.com and we dated for several months before I found out his name wasn’t his real name, his identity wasn’t his real identity, and he was a registered sex offender who served 10 years in a New Jersey prison. When I reported it to Match, all they did was pull his profile. Then I later saw him back on Match under a different name. Then a year later I saw him back on Match under another name. Match is happy to take your money... but does nothing to verify profile identities or run criminal background safety checks.

Where is the competition folks? Match.com is the worst dating site ever. I beg someone to come up with something to compete! They send ridiculous matches daily that have nothing to do with what you're looking for, they totally lie about the "guarantee" or it's free. They basically have no customer service and if you do attempt to call you will wait forever and they farm their help out to foreigners that don't speak English. They are just plain horrible.

My kids encouraged me to sign up for Match.com to find a new partner late in life. Within the first 3 days of subscribing, my email inbox was inundated with advertisements and images that actually were buttons and were set up for users (including myself) to accidentally click on, leading them to accidentally pay additional fees on top of their base subscription that they could not reverse. There were false promises of "likes" and "someone is interested", only to lead to upsells that caused a continuing outflow of money from my credit card.
It was a horrible experience overall, and I closed my account within a few days, kissing goodbye to my large payment for a 3 month subscription and the many fees I accidentally clicked on (but didn't confirm, yet still got charged). Very unprofessional. The website is extremely outdated, payment system is sketchy, and no billing transaction history or order number. Even finding true love is not worth this headache.

I've been on and off of Match over the years and have met a few quality people. BUT... I believe some men have not been happy with me because it has shown me online when I haven't been!! I've had a few guys pissed off at me (or it seems so in their text messages after a date). I had two dates with one guy and everything seemed fine. Right after the second date (dinner) I get a sarcastic text message saying "Well, I hope you enjoyed your free dinner!!" When texted him back to ask him what was wrong, he wouldn't tell me and said, "it's not going to work"??? Then another guy planned a really nice second date. He went out of his way to select a restaurant that I would love. We then went somewhere else for drinks. It was really thoughtful. Again the date went well and he was very into me. A couple of days later, I texted him to see how he was doing and he texted back that I was not his dream girl and that I should find someone else.
I couldn't figure out why these guys were getting so pissed off at me. Another time I was speaking to a guy on the phone (hadn't met him yet) and said I couldn't meet him on Friday night because I was going out to a movie with my mom (which I was). The next day on the phone he asked me if I was at a movie with my mom last night, because he went to show a friend my profile and it was showing me as being online. He said that was fine and he's got no right telling me what to do, but he thought it was odd that I'd lie that I was going to a movie when I wasn't. I swore to him that I was actually at a movie. Fast forward to now and I'm back on Match. I'm completely signed out of my account, but went on a friend's profile (with friend being present) and searched for myself and there I am... ONLINE!!! No wonder these guys were mad. They take me out for a nice dinner and then they see that right after the date I'm online chatting to other men???
Also how are profiles being displayed? I've been on Match three times. The first time, I couldn't keep up with how many men were viewing my profile and contacting me. It was a little overwhelming. A few months later, I go on Match again and get crickets. I was going to throw in the towel when I was contacted by the man who would become my boyfriend. Now more than a year later the relationship ended and after giving dating a rest for a few months, I'm back on Match. I'm now being constantly contacted. What happened the second time where there was hardly any interest in me? Was I not showing up in searches? My friend signed up last year. She went off after 3 months. She hardly got any interest from anyone and she is an attractive woman. She had a great profile. Sometimes I think they want you to buy that top spot.

I believe the scamming is much more direct and devious than what has been covered. I believe Match.com has paid writers who create profiles with lots of great, fun photos and an interesting bio just to get people to buy the subscription to chat with them. Having been divorced for ten years, I have been on Match multiple times over the last decade. I have attempted to view profiles in their free version to see who is out there but there always happens to be someone who seems to be such a great match that I am compelled to move things towards the next step. I look at their profile, perhaps ‘like’ a picture, ‘like’ their profile or send one of those awful ‘winks’. In turn, she looks at my profile, likes my stuff and leads me to believe there’s reason to communicate. So I pay them for the, come to find out non-refundable, subscription (even after Groupon says there’s a 3-day free trial).
Then come the messages. She is very complimentary, “you’re handsome, so funny, I love your sense of humor, you’re too good to be true,” when the entire time she is too good to be true because she stops talking right after that... After you’ve paid the website to talk. This happens a lot. I have even seen profiles of very beautiful women recycled from years ago, seriously, how long can a woman be going back for her post graduate degree at forty two years old? It’s been four or five years. Someone needs to investigate Match.com. I believe a class action lawsuit is on the horizon.

I became a member three months ago, and in that time, not only have I never managed to date anyone, but I have yet even to receive an answer to my messages. I have found the women on the site not only unappealing, but also obsessive. It's as though they have gone out of their way to look poorly presented; bad hair, poorly made up, if at all and badly dressed. They are only interested in men who are either five years younger, or older than they are, making no allowance for someone who is not only appears younger than their chronological age, but are also younger in spirit.
Yet another issue is that of requiring the man to have the same likes and dislikes as they have. How boring is that? They show no interest in finding someone who is different, so that they can get out of their little boxes and learn more about life in general. My advice to anyone contemplating using MATCH.COM? DON'T.

On the contrary I received numerous abusive and vulgar emails from "man haters" who claimed my demands were unfair to women. Some of the profiles from these woman were downright vulgar. When I responded I was shut down as Match did not like my answers. It's alright with them if they post phony and vulgar profiles but not acceptable when I respond to their brainless comments! Furthermore, FYI good looking women whom I was seeking are far and few between.
The "hot" looking ones get about 1,000 emails a week to support fake profiles. They are merely "hookers" seeking free advertising to solicit unwary men. I was the victim of one who almost had me robbed on the first date - it's called "Trick N' Roll". The second woman claimed to be a costume designer for showgirls which turned out bogus when I ran a background check and she had no work history! Let alone she was always unavailable at night and would only meet during the day. More red flags for her "hooker" business at night. So I have complained to the Rip-Off Report and Better Business Bureau as the lame customer service representatives refuse to even speak to me about this. A total SCAM they are. There is no opportunity for a dialog with some nameless faceless who changes your writing. If you replace deleted text, they delete the entire section of your profile and replace it with the words "PROFILE NOT COMPLETE," so you lose your work. These statements are unacceptable to them and will be removed from your profile: "I’ve resolved not to view any more matches or try to contact people on this site." Stopping payment for fraudulent charges or unsatisfactory goods or services is a standard benefit for most major credit cards. You may even cancel your credit card if you have to. But, be forewarned, Match will be aggravated. Years ago, Match was not so blatantly cheating and bilking customers. I was a careful consumer and had okay to good experiences 7-10 years ago. This is wild. Good for the Sunnyvale lawsuit. They said there’s nothing they could do after I put in my requirements – any man or woman could still message me despite my very clear preferences. I asked to cancel my subscription and get a refund since I had only used the service for less than a week at that point.
Gabriel said that he could issue a refund for the 2 months I didn’t use yet. I pushed for the full three-month refund because I was so disappointed after giving it a chance for just a few days. He said that it was past the two-day return policy and that I signed the terms and conditions. I replied with “yes I signed the terms and agreements because you promised to give me a selection of men under 30 – Match didn’t fulfill this promise, so it would only be fair for me to get my money back.” Gabriel proceeded to tell me that he was disconnecting our call and then he hung up on me. I have never had a customer service representative hang up on me before – so disrespectful.
I called right back and got Jone on the line. I told her the story of what just happened and then asked for her to follow through with the two-month refund. She then told me that this isn’t possible and that she didn’t know what Gabriel was talking about – there was nothing on my account to reflect his promise. I asked her to give me the refund that Gabriel promised and she asked to put me on hold. She didn’t put the phone on hold – she just set it down and I could her loudly groan in the background. “UGHHHHH” – then she picked up the phone and continued our conversation. I was so horrified by the customer service I was encountering so I abruptly ended our call.
I called back to speak to a supervisor about Gabriel and Jone, but the supervisor wasn’t in the office. I just called back (a different day) and spoke with Benny the supervisor. I told him all about the above and he told me that customer service agents can hang up on customers and that since it’s past the second day of the purchase, he wouldn’t be able to give me even a partial refund. I don’t understand why this company lies to their customers, doesn’t provide profiles that are relatively close to what the person is looking for and has the most despicable customer service representatives I have ever encountered. Once logged in, I saw that my profile had somehow been reactivated without my consent. I hadn't logged into Match.com for a couple of years, yet somehow, my old profile was very active.
I actually had to click in my settings to "deactivate" my account yet again. I have no idea how long it will stay deactivated this time, since I never reactivated it to begin with. I know without a doubt that they somehow have adware or spyware that triggers reactivation of old accounts whenever someone uses "Match.com" in a message on Facebook. It is a terrifying sign of the times we are about to enter, and only makes this company all the more unethical. They already tricked me into paying for a membership that I attempted to stop, and now this, 2 years later. Stay away from this website! You'll never be free, apparently.

I had auto renew removed from my Match.com account because they automatically have it on. The day before my account was about to expire I double checked to make sure my account was not on auto renew and sure enough it was. I removed the auto renew and saved my setting. Sure enough they renewed my account and charged me for three months. I noticed the charge of $74.97 only two days later and called them. After arguing with the representative they got back to me with a $38 credit but would not give me a full refund. I had used PayPal to initially pay for the service and they did not help me. Lesson learned, next time just use a credit card. Coincidentally I just spoke to a friend and the same exact thing happened to her. What a scam!

This is a site where you can email users but they will never reply meaning they either create fake profiles to lure people in or they hold their users to no standards of ethics. For a truly good website for dating users should need to reply to new emails even saying they are not interested as no reply at all means users do not intend to use the site for any meaningful reason.

I purchased a one month subscription for my friend for about $37. Two days later I was charged $60 automatically, without my consent or confirmation. I emailed them about a refund and they replied that the charge was "offered as an incentive" and was charged. No it was not "offered", it was stolen from my account without my consent. They were trying to pull a fast one on me and take my money. I did not confirm or agree to be charged this amount. They did not even refund my $37. So in total, I would have paid about $100. PLEASE, don't do your business with match. They just prey on single people and it doesn't even work most of the time. Very disgusted with their business model and practices.

I called customer service to ask for a refund because I spent $65 and after spending a few minutes on the site I went through all my matches in my area which were a bunch of guys that didn't meet the criteria I'm looking for. Why would I be matched with a bunch of guys that select "definitely don't want kids" and I put in my section I'm looking for a guy that "does want kids". When I explained to the rep I'm being matched with guys that don't match what I'm looking for and I would just like to get my money back she told me," We don't do refunds" and then said "I'm hanging up now" and hung up on me! I can't believe such a well-known company could be this horrible.
I will NEVER use this site again and will tell everyone I know to NEVER use Match.com! Not only do you get matched with people you have nothing in common with but you get messages from a bunch of guys all day that aren't even slightly close to what you in your "what I'm looking for section". Great! 20 messages a day from 55 year old men who don't want kids even though I put I'm looking for someone who's 30-40 and does want kids. Such a horrible experience and waste of money!

2018's Online Dating reality with Match.com. I'm a child of contemporary times, my closest friends will tell you. And whereas I do worry about some of the aspects of Technology, I must confess that I tend to be on the side of the spectrum of people who will gladly start trying out new technologies and applying it to my life. I see them all as new life-navigating tools which can be used in a variety of ways.
When looking for someone to be with, some people are old-school and prefer the traditional means of finding someone... they will meet at work or sometimes out socializing. The issue is that these people are fairly limited by their surroundings. You end up feeling stuck. I mean, I do find that meeting people in real life does have its charm as you can get that "it was supposed to be" kind of feeling. But the truth is that nowadays - with busy routines and cosmopolitan lives - many people just don't get to meet a whole load of people who shares their personal interests.
That's where online dating and Match.com comes in. Online dating enables you to search specifically for people with traits that you would like to find and also to dodge some personality features you wish to avoid. I'm going to spare you of data which tells how many people have used those kinds of services - it's a lot - but the reality is that online dating is here to stay and it's growing.
The leading market company for that, is obviously Match.com and I'm not even a little embarrassed to say that I've used their services and it was for the most part, good. It's not a cheap price you pay for the service, but it does put you in touch with a lot of people you would never have met otherwise. Even though sometimes it's hard to filter through it to find truly interesting people.
My beef with Match.com comes from the last two days' interaction. I've had my account suspended for the last 4 (FOUR) months as I haven't needed the service and wanted my profile to disappear from the website and not show up in searches. I believed it to be dormant. To be clear, to have a suspended account means that I cannot use the service and even if I do log in on the website there's a specific process I must go through to reactivate my account and be able to use it again.
So I assumed I was back to having a regular, unpaid profile without any of the benefits of the paid subscription, just like the first free profile you make at Match.com. Well, this morning I found out that I was charged for one more 6-month subscription and when I contacted them by phone about that, I met the evil legal side of Match.com. Let alone the fact that I do not remember reading anywhere that suspending my account would not stop my subscription renewal (it was so long ago), but apparently, there's no cooling-off period for renewal services as well. This means that if you accidentally fail to opt out of renewal services on the website, Match.com will charge you for another 6 months of service and you will not be able to get a refund.
Now, that's just extremely cheeky. As a child of the times, I know very well that any company with some decency will allow you to cancel a subscription. Either partially or fully. Yes they might charge you a fee for the troubles, which I'd be happy to pay for, but to simply keep ALL my money for a future 6-month service I haven't even used in the last 4 months and will not be using for the next 6 months is just comparable to legal daylight robbery. It annoys me that there are still companies like Match.com that will not use their technology potential towards transparency.
Seriously, how hard would it be to set up a reminder email service to be sent out to users a week before their renewal to make them aware of upcoming charges so they could actually choose to remain a paying user or not? I mean, maybe my situation has changed in the last 6 months. Maybe I can't afford it anymore. But after the payment has gone through, I have no cooling-off period for my charged subscription or a chance to get a partial refund? That's a nasty pill to swallow. I very politely called their customer services and explained the situation. I was put through to a Supervisor called Claire who basically just robotically repeated the ridiculous loophole I already knew I found myself in and told me that no refund would be given. Great. Thanks, Claire.
I explained to her that I might go online and post about this. That's when she said, in her own words: "Well, 'bad-mouthing' the company will not get you a refund." Well, Claire... Firstly, I don't believe that I'm bad-mouthing the company. I'm truth-mouthing it if anything. I might not get a refund, but I will make people aware of your contract loopholes and of Match.com's unfair subscription policies in the hopes that you might eventually change them. In fact, I'm probably willing to spend another £50 with online advertising just to make sure I reach more people with this post. Yes, your renewal contract policies annoyed me that much.I will also be actively looking for forums on people talking about you and I will share my views.
For everyone out there thinking about using these kinds of services, well, you have been warned. If you do sign up with any dating websites, please be aware that unfortunately even the biggest one of them - Match.com - has no transparency, flexibility and in the end of the day is just out to get you. Please do read the small lettering if you do sign up and I would recommend opting out of any kind of subscription renewal services as soon as you sign up otherwise you risk completely forgetting about it after not using it for months and still be charged a ridiculous amount for a service you no long require. I have also found a Youtube video by ABC News saying that Match.com was F-rated by the Better Business Bureau for lack of transparency and contractual loopholes.

Last month I signed up to Match.Com. Knowing ahead of time about Match.Com billing practices, i.e., once a person signs up, he/she acquiesces to ongoing monthly charges unless the subscriber cancels before the expiration date of subscription, I cancelled immediately upon signing up. The cancellation process is tedious because Match.Com keeps making a person navigate through a myriad of pages before arriving on the last one to cancel. Then, after the cancellation, an offer immediately pops up offering to reduce the regular price of $39.99 to $14.99 and the offer would stay on the table until the day the subscription ends. In my case, knowing ahead of time that one month was enough, and a few weeks later that I observed that not many new members were subscribing, I ignored not to accept the 1/2 off offer at the end of my subscription.
As stated above, I came armed with knowledge of not only being aware Match.com's policy regarding ongoing charges, but more important Match.Com's nefarious reputation to keep billing a subscriber, even if a cancellation notice is submitted. With that knowledge in hand, at the end of my subscription I checked my account and discovered I got billed for another month, even though I cancelled. I immediately contacted Match.com and was told, I never cancelled, so, nothing could be done. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told "supervisors do not get involved with billing disputes." Myself being a retired cop and now criminal defense attorney I next made a complaint with the FTC and BBB. Now, $39.99 may not be a lot of money, however, when you multiply that amount by hundreds, likely thousands, with many victims unaware of their rights to dispute a charge to their respective credit card, Match.com makes a ton of money.
If enough people complain to the FTC, Federal Trade Commission and BBB, Better Business Bureau, which states Match.Com is among the top 5 companies it receives complaints about, as well as vigorously disputing charges to their credit cards, maybe then Match.Com will seize and desist from their fraudulent activity. This illegal activity just might be ripe for this ambulance chaser to seek a class action suit. Let's get together and let Match.Com know we are mad as hell and ain't gonna take their fraudulent actions anymore!!!

The paid application supposed to "boost" your profile to be more searchable/visible and promise you quadruple your emails. The pop-up gives you a choice to pay more money for some bogus "boost up to several hours" or not. How can you promise someone who did not get any emails (my neighbor) for four months to quadruple emails from members to boost the profile visibility just for a few hours?
I denied this application and new emails stopped coming for three weeks already. Members do not see my profile on the search anymore even when they searching me 5mi near my zip code. I discussed this odd situation with other two members. They are experiencing the same problem. They are not getting any new emails. Seems Match.com is not enough our monthly membership fees. Another problem. Match.com full of scam-artists. Members should be verified some way. Also they're not very high quality. (At one time OurTime dot com and Match dot com had the same owner. I don't know if they still do. This was relevant on the dates they stole from me.) I sent a message to the manager of OurTime in Santa Fe NM because he lied to someone and said I was interested when I wasn't. This was last year, 2016-17. I complained about this and said I didn't like it at all.
I was on Match dot com in 2017-18. During the periods of time I was on these websites, I believe that the manager of both websites stole my credit card numbers even including PayPal and bought himself an "AV anti-virus program" for his personal use three different times. I know it sounds crazy but I am certain that was the person who stole from me because the dates coincide with the dates I was on these websites in the last two years. I got my money back the second and third times but I missed the first time. It cost me about $70. So, we must beware not just of the people in the mostly fake profiles but of the actual employees of Match dot com and also of OurTime dot com. Very poor, discourteous, and unprofessional customer service. Don’t waste your money or time. One evening, I decided to subscribe to match.com’s site via the iPhone application & test the service out to see if I’d like it or not. The next morning I tried to log back into my account and I see an error message telling me my account has been deactivated with an email address to contact match.com’s customer service team. I then send match.com‘s customer service an email asking them why my account’s been deleted and their only response was: “Please know that due to our Terms of Use, your Match account has been terminated. Due to our privacy practices, we cannot disclose specifics about any Match account, including your own."
And decide to give me no specific details on what I specifically did to violate their terms of service or their privacy policy. My only thought was: “what could I have possibly done to violate their terms of service or their privacy policy considering that I didn’t use any profane language when communicating with the other members or request any personal information from them???” I send match.com’s customer service team another email the next day asking them for more details on what I specifically did to violate their policies and all they told me was the same thing as before saying they couldn’t give any specific details due to their so-called ‘privacy practices.’ What on earth could I have possibly done to violate match.com’s policies? Trust me folks, this site is not worth wasting your money or time over.
What could I have possibly done wrong on their site? Was it too many excessive messages I sent that one evening I decided to give match.com (and yes, I know, I’m intentionally spelling ‘match.com’ in all lowercase letters as a direct sign of contempt considering that this company does not deserve the recognition of having its title capitalized) a try which may have triggered an alert which was then transmitted to their databases? My answer is: I’ll never know until one of them tells me specifically what it was I did wrong, which, up until now, they have refused to do. Trust me guys and gals, this site is not worth it. It is not worth your money or time. There are plenty of other online dating services out there that are a much better investment of your money and time. USE them! NOT match.com!

I not only had to contact the FBI and the Federal Trade Commission as well as my local Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department of outright fraud and abuse by a online scam artist seeking to glean money from potential victims with highly sophisticated romance schemes that to an average eye would go undetected unless serious damages ensued. My first experience out of the starting gate with Match.com was a man who identified himself as "Larry **'" with the gmail account of "**" and a Denver based cell phone number.
This man had an Indonesian/Malaysian American accent, insisted on meeting me as soon as possible, stated he was of Italian descent, sent me voluminous emails describing how I was his perfect match based off of everything I had listed on my profile and then made the mistake of phoning me. For it was there that I could ascertain that his story did not add up for he had written both that his father had passed away and yet he was waiting for his father to pass away both in his letters. He verified on the phone that both of his parent had passed and that his father was in the United States Air Force. This is cogent to the financial romance scheme that undoubtedly he was after because he said upon his father's death he would inherit a gold mine of diamonds and gold to "be able to share with his forever companion," on the Match.com website.
As if this was not enough, with him demanding to see me in person, he stated he did not have a camera phone but was wealthy. I wish I was kidding but I am not. It was obvious the man was pressing to meet me in person for the very least of which was to gain access to my credit cards, or worst yet, something more nefarious. It was a romance scam of the highest order and if I had not been paying astute attention to literally everything he wrote and said, I myself would have wound up another one of his victims, no doubt.
I am writing this not only to warn other potential users of match.com but worst yet, match.com does not and will not offer or give any refunds no matter what the case is. If calling the FBI and reporting this to the federal trade commission is not enough I will be sure to keep this in mind if I ever meet members of congress or the president himself to see that match.com is held liable and should at the very least offer their subscribers who were victimized by such criminal behavior their refund at minimum.

Of course I only signed up for 1 month and they auto-renewed. No warning. Refused to refund me the day I was auto-renewed. No use for such an awful service so now I'm paying for nothing. Filed a claim with my CC company. NEVER AGAIN.

I'm stuck with Match until early Spring. I have to say when I initially signed up there was interest but that quickly faded away within days. I get a daily email of men who could or could not be my matches because when I log into my account there are never any matches there for me. I just ignore them because Match likes to give you fake matches to make you think guys are interested in you when there's no interest at all. I have not messaged anyone or if I did, I was trying to find out if they were for real. No response. They have this big flashy commercial on TV promising the moon and all you get is a trip down a dark alley. Nothing on Match for me because I can't tell what's real and what's fake. No messages from a real person so far and it's been months. The guys I was talking to all evaporated into mist, they weren't serious, they were into tricks. Half the time I log in I don't know what's going on but I know I'm not a part of it. I might as well have a dormant account. Nothing is happening in mine.

After months of urging from a friend, she reads me multiple reviews from sites that compare online dating sites. The site offered a link for a free trial on Match.com but upon setting up a profile, you are prompted for payment. We entered my payment info with the assumption I could cancel if I didn't like it. Less than 36 hours after setting up my profile, I realize not only that I do not like the online dating scene but that I have already been charged for a six month subscription to Match.com.
I sent an email and was told they cancelled my account and were not refunding any of my money!! This is the worst customer service you can imagine. At the VERY LEAST, I would have expected them to downgrade it from a six month to a one month subscription and refund the difference. But again, I tried to cancel less than 36 hours after signing up, so I truly expected a refund and a let us know if you change your mind.” I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND MATCH.COM TO ANYONE!

I have had a Match.com account for a couple years, and had rarely if ever used it because I hate the idea of paying a pretty high fee with no guarantee. I went to log in this weekend, with the intent to try it for a month by paying, but my account had been banned. There had never been anything inappropriate on my account in any way, but they say somehow, on an account where I can’t message anyone, and basically can’t do a thing, I did something to get banned. To not, I log in to it maybe once or twice a month, at the very most. I emailed their customer service, and this is what I got back: "Thank you for contacting Match regarding the status of your Match membership. They are "legally required" to tell me I can complain to the ombudsmen but actually stated they wouldn't engage with them anyway! Unbelievable. Wish I'd seen the reviews on here prior to signing up. I just saw on my charge card statement that I was charged $8.75 for the next 6 months. I called to complain and stated I was NOT paying the bill. The rep who barely spoke English said that once the charge is posted to my charge account they have no way of refunding my money. I had the rep check the records and did acknowledge my desire NOT to continue with Match.com after the first 6 months and for my charge card NOT to be billed any further. That fell on deaf ears.
I hung up the phone in disgust and totally livid. I called my charge card company to protest the charge. I also stated that I'm a police officer and what Match.com did could be construed as "Fraud". I informed my charge card company that under no circumstances would I pay the $87.75 charge. Match.com is a lying, organization and I would recommend everyone to boycott them.

Very frustrating experience to be forced to pay for something you didn't want in the first place and hadn't been using. It is also frustrating they refuse to let you talk to management or someone who can actually do something. In the end I got back $68 of the $120. Who hasn’t let a subscription renewal date slip by? An ethical business gives its subscription customers a little advance warning to remind them of an upcoming automatic renewal. How ethical is it to not only automatically renew without notice, but then to refuse a refund the renewal subscription when the customer makes a good faith effort to contact the organization within minutes of the organization’s operating hours?
It is telling that by the end of the conversation, after a short hold and after informing the CSR that the internet was replete with stories of fellow former-subscribers enraged at their treatment, the formerly inflexible policy of ‘absolutely no refunds’ was reversed as a ‘one-time courtesy’. This, after being told I could not be transferred to anyone else as no one else was able to issue a refund due to ‘technology restrictions.’ Caveat Emptor, certainly. But if you run a business in 2018, you should be equally aware of the power of public awareness and communication of your reputation.

Turns out, I had been auto-renewed for another six months, without even a "heads up, we're going to charge you full price!" email. And when I went to cancel the new subscription, it says that I can cancel at any time, but my account will remain active until July when it runs out. Save your money and don't bother with Match. They would not let me speak to a supervisor and the gentleman that I spoke with said he is hanging up on me as there is nothing that can be done. In other words they cant charge you for 6 months when you only had a one month subscription.
I called the next day and explained that to the lady I spoke with, reading off their disclaimer. She had me hold on while she spoke with her supervisor and came back with good news. I would have not believed it until it happened to me. Match.com is closed for any kind of customer service or fraud alert outside of normal business hours, this means someone can get into your account, turn off the email address notification, get into your account with your birthdate and credit card number...and also change your profile photos etc. Now you try to get into your account and you are locked out because they changed the email address in your account. Wait and still have your credit card number and birthdate!!!
Oh, yes and MATCH CANNOT BE CONTACTED??? So, for all of these people complaining about fake profiles...Match encourages it by not having anywhere to complain about the fraud. They just allow it to happen because it's part of their business plan. There should be a email sent when any its are changed and you have to second approve it and this fake profile and scams would stop...but then that's not part of their business plan.
Updated on 01/03/2018: I have then searched through other similar complaints and spoke to their customer service department which is in the Philippines! They are refunding my money and blocked my account. I asked that my email, birthdate and credit card number be removed and washed from their system and she kept telling me corporate is handling this. I had the same problem of overtime I logged in. It would ask me to reset my password. SO SOMEONE KEPT CHANGING IT. Then they changed my email address 3 times so when changed to the account were made and new photos uploaded, I was not informed. They even changed my profile to some upgraded version. And I was not informed. OH, and they changed my birthdate so that I could not even go in another venue if I forgot my email address. NOW THIS CANNOT HAPPEN UNLESS MATCH OR MATCH EMPLOYEES ARE PARTICIPATING IN THIS.
They have known for months and months that this is going on and they have no security in place to stop it. SOME ATTORNEY NEEDS TO GET A HOLD OF THIS CASE AND FILE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. So, basically normal people can't use the site because the scammers are hacking accounts. They keep the scammers and kick off the real people. I am getting new credit cards and calling it a day. But it seems that most of these sites lack security for our information. BTW once they have your birthdate and email address, it's easy to do a property search and find your zip code and address... This is crazy and they should have a lawsuit against them for not securing peoples profiles AFTER years of complaints and fraud.

I subscribed to Match.com in June 2017. I had a discounted rate through Groupon, and knew I did not want to be auto-renewed, especially at the normal rate. Upon subscribing, I followed the FAQ steps on Match to make sure my account would not be auto-renewed by cancelling my subscription. My subscription expired on 12/29/17 and auto-renewed at $119 inexplicably.
I called the Match customer service two times on 1/2/18 to explain the situation. I was told that their system did not show I cancelled the membership and was asked if I had an email confirmation. At the time, I could not find the email, but I told both representatives I was telling the truth and cancelled back in June 2017, and my conscience would not let me lie if I truly forgot to cancel on my own. They told me the best they could do would be to refund me $60, and informed me I would not be able to speak with a manager. They then proceeded to end the call when I was not satisfied with only being refunded half, since I should not have been charged at all.
After those two calls, I searched through my email and finally found the email confirmation dated 6/28/17 showing that I successfully cancelled my membership. I then called back and spoke with a third Match.com representative and informed her that I found my email. She placed me on hold and looked up my account information. She then informed me she could see I cancelled my account on 6/28/17; however, she indicated I reactivated my account the following day on 6/29/17.
This is very troubling for a few reasons: 1) I never reactivated my account. She said it's not as simple as mistakenly clicking the "reactivate" link in the email and that several steps would have been taken. I had no reason to reactivate the account the following day because I knew I absolutely did not want to renew, which is why I was proactive and cancelled my membership. 2) The first two customer service representatives informed me that they could not see on their end any cancellation that previously occurred. It was not until I finally found the email confirmation and spoke to the third representative did they inform me that they could see the cancellation that was previously made.
I informed the third representative that I did not reactivate my account and informed her I never received an email confirming my reactivation, since they previously informed me they needed my cancellation email. She then placed me on hold, and then informed me that they do not send email confirmations for reactivations after I asked for one. This is very troubling because the first two representatives informed me that I needed to have the email confirmation for the cancellation, which at the time, I could not provide. Then, when I finally found the email, I was then told that I reactivated my account, but Match.com does not send email confirmations for that. So Match.com is holding customers to a standard that they themselves do not hold themselves to as far as providing email documentation.
In conclusion, I subscribed to Match.com in June 2017. I knew I did not want to auto-renew once the subscription expired, so I was proactive and followed the steps to cancel my membership upon the expiration date of 12/29/17. I was provided an email confirmation of my cancellation dated 6/28/17. I was subsequently charged an auto-renewal fee of $119. I called and spoke with two representatives who informed me the only thing they could do was refund me $60, since their system showed I never cancelled my membership, and I could not provide the email confirmation of the cancellation at the time. I finally found the email confirmation of the cancellation minutes later and called back and spoke with a third representative.
Unlike the previous two representatives, she informed me she could see in the system that I cancelled the membership on 6/28/17 (which the previous two representatives failed to mention), but she then indicated that I auto-renewed the following day on 6/29/17. I absolutely did not auto-renew, as I immediately knew upon subscribing that I did not want that to happen, which is why I cancelled. Each representative informed me they could only refund me $60, and informed me that I could not speak with a manager because the manager would relay the same message.
I am very troubled by this situation, as I have never been treated like this by a company before. I feel like I was scammed out of the remainder of the $119 charged to my credit card and was deceived by the customer service agents who did not inform me of their knowledge of the initial cancellation. I have an email confirmation confirming my cancellation, which shows I was telling the truth. Now, I'm being told I reactivated my account, which is completely false. The only way this issue can be resolved is to receive a complete refund for the $119 that I am owed and would like assistance with making this right. I am an honest person, and I feel like I was completely scammed with this situation.

In June, a 6 month promotional deal was released for around $4/month. I decided I'd give it another shot. Shortly after, I started seeing someone in August. From that point on, I didn't use any dating applications. In September, I had remembered I needed to cancel my account and subscription and made countless attempts to log in, with no success. I clicked the "forgot my password" button and was informed an email was sent. Days went by and no email was received, including my junk mail. I tried this 15+ times over the course of the last several months, still with no success.
After reviewing my credit card statement on 12/28 I found a $59.94 charge on my account from Match.com on 12/26. This was accompanied by a phone number. After explaining the situation to a billing specialist, I was informed that someone had hacked into my account and changed the login information. It had been over three months since this had happened and it was the first time I was being informed. They refused to refund the $59.94 charge because I didn't "cancel my subscription". How would I be able to cancel my subscription if you allowed someone to hack into my account and never notify me of the instance. I'd say 15+ attempts is more than enough effort on my end to cancel my subscription. I will never use Match.com again and recommend you do the same. I'm very disappointed with their lack of account security and their unreasonable charges for an unusable "hidden" account.
