Because Match is a "paid site", there seems to be more quality people on there who are more interested in a relationship than just hooking up and the odds of encountering a fake or bot profile are almost nil. Also, the options for filtering matches is fairly extensive, too.

It's okay, but it would be better if photos had to be captioned with the year taken. Since my preference is Asian, it's pretty obvious the photos taken of a young lady in China bear little to no resemblance to the 50 year old now in the United States.

Match.com is awful. I was on this site for over 5 years and met 1 female. Their billing dept is bad. You have to make sure your membership doesn't renew if you don't want it to otherwise, if it does you're not getting any money back. You have to pay extra if you want top billing or features on match or to see if your messages were read by someone. At 1 time there were a lot of fake profile on match. It's a big game they let you be on match for free (Set up your picture and profile) but can't read or send messages unless you pay their charges per month.

I had a great experience using Match.com. I wanted a dating site that gave me more info on someone than just a short description they wrote on themselves and a bunch of pictures. I liked that Match allowed people to use more details about their current situations and their past. I had enough dating in the past of randomly meeting people. I knew what I wanted and I was able to first only match with people who met my criteria for history, religion, job, kids, etc. This I feel made it a lot easier to just have to find a personality match. I ended up going on one date from Match.com and that date happened to turn into my husband. :) Who would have thought?

Not bad actually. Kind of pricey for the pay per month model, but it worked for me. The key with all these dating sites is to register as non-paying member first, but with a full profile with several photos. Test the waters for a couple of weeks and then pay for just a month (if required), NOT a year.

I asked to be taken off automatic pay and continued to be billed from Match.com. Finally, I was able to speak with someone from the customer service department at Match.com. The person from Match.com guaranteed me that I would get all of my money back, but first I needed to install Apple Pay on my phone. He also asked me to install ZoHo so he could help me quickly assist me (Zoho allowed him to access all the information on my phone... I was unaware of that during the call).

He told me to send him 10.00 using Apple Pay and he would send it right back to me. Which he did. It was their way on ensuring that Apple Pay was working properly. After some time, we were disconnected, and the Match.com representative called me back from another number (I didn't realize it at the time) to complete the process of retrieving my money. He (The Match.com representative) had a very strong accent and he kept aking me to trust him..."this is how we will get all of your money back."

A link was sent to my phone and he directed me to type, "yes" even though I really didn't understand what I was typing "yes" for. He told me to trust him and so I foolishly did. I was sent another link and told to type, "yes" again. I questioned the man I was speaking with but he reassured me that if I sent 500.00 through Apple Pay he would send it immediately back just as he had the 10.00.. and then he would be able to refund all of the charges I had from Match.com.

I waited for a few minutes for my 500.00 to be returned. When I did not see it returned I started to become upset and the representative from Match.com assured me if I sent another 500.00, I would get everything back, plus the amount owed. At this point the representative became agitated when I refused to send the second 500.00. He became loud and I then realized I was scammed.... The very strange part is that I CONTACTED MATCH.COM and was SCAMMED. It wasn't as if a bogus company contacted me and then I was scammed.

At first, I thought that perhaps I had reached a website that was a scam. I used Gethuman.com for Match.com. A few days later after speaking with Apple (again), they told me to call Match.com directly to clear up the problem. Of course I was reluctant to call the number I had originally called so the representative from Apple assisted me with finding the legitimate Match.com customer relations phone number. When I looked at the number I was directed to call, I realized it was the identical number I originally called for help.

The number I called was indeed Match.com's number and this was the number that I was scammed from. It turned out the representative had me buy 500.00 worth of bitcoins! Also, he was able to gain access to all of the contents on my cell phone. BEWARE I CALLED THEM (that's why I was so vulnerable) AND A REPRESENTATIVE FROM MATCH.COM SCAMMED ME.

I paid to have both of them investigated to find out they are in fact scammers. I informed match.com and they more or less said sorry about your luck and we will not refund you any of your money. Match.com is probably one of the better dating sites but that doesn't mean it's great. I have found it to be a very frustrating experience. What's frustrating is that, like other sites, they present matches who are no longer paying members so there's an illusion that a member has many more matches than is actually the case. Members will go to send an email which will never be answered because the person is no longer a paying member and can't see your email.

When you go to the "Mutual Match" there's tons of matches....but they don't follow our set preferences. For instance, my preferences state that I want to date only women of my race but a good 1/3 of the matches are women of a different race. Also, the vast majority of matches are no longer paying members so they will never see the emails that are sent. It seems that the current members have a "last activity date" on their profiles. If someone is still a paying member but hasn't been on the site in over 30 days, it's probably safe to assume they're not going to read an email directed to them. NONE of the dating sites present a really good experience. It boggles my mind that someone can't take all the good features of the various sites and put it into ONE really excellent dating site experience.

Match was my last chance at online dating, and after flicking in and out on it, I finally decided to put it to rest.

    Pros:

    - Match genuinely tries to improve the online dating experience. Lauren, one of their dating coaches, was by and far the highlight of the site. She was sympathetic and insightful, and delightful to talk to on the phone. No other service I've been on has tried to personalize the horror that is online dating.

    - I've been on a TON of dates. I've talked to a lot of women. A lot.

    Cons:

    - That said, I've been on almost no second dates. Almost all first dates. It's been several years on various dating platforms, about a year and a half on Match.

    - "It's a numbers game." No, it's a learning process, and a very steep learning curve. These sites have a very different approach to dating, just by the nature of how they're set up. People can take great photos (or awful ones); they can spruce up their profiles to sound like someone else. You swipe until you find someone, and swipe again if they're not the one. Everything is all built up in the first meeting or two, which is really unnatural to how I've ever dated in my relationships.

    - It's incredibly tiring being on Match (and other platforms) and dating coaches are well aware of "dating fatigue." You just want to tune out much of the time. I'm only active for half the months I pay for. It's exhausting.

Final verdict: Match is the best of the online dating apps, but like all of them, it only fits a certain type of person. It doesn't fit my dating style, which is a slower and more activity-based approach. That's where I feel comfortable. I've tried and it just doesn't work. It likely won't fit you, so consider other dating options: ask friends, do social activities, etc. Perhaps things will change, and more people like Lauren will change the dating environment here (here's to hoping!) but it's not ready for me yet. She earned every star I gave the site. Thanks!

I looked at reviews of Match.com before I signed up and didn't find anything specific that was against it. Now that I've tried the service for 3 months, I would urge anyone thinking about signing up to be aware of how they actually "match" you, and how little you are able to filter potential matches you receive. This has not been a good experience for me. I liked eHarmony better because it matched people through a personality test and also in the way you set up your filters. For eHarmony, you can say important something like income bracket, education, or politics (etc) was to you, so if I said I was Christian and that was Very Important I didn't get matched with atheists. Unfortunately, Match is MUCH more limiting in how you can filter, and they bombard you with people who really have nothing in common with you.

According to their customer svc rep, "Match will use your stated preferences for: Ethnicity, Religion, Body Type, Has Kids, Wants Kids, Marital Status, Smoking" but NOT for Education, Politics, or other details. They said that over time, as you "Like" or "Skip" the people you send, the computer uses that info and will gradually customize your Matches. So if you repeatedly "Like" people who are Conservative or Liberal, you'll get fewer people who are politically unlike you.

I am baffled by when this actually kicks in, though, because I've been clicking Skip for three months but in the last 2 weeks have been matched with completely wrong people. For example, I have two degrees and have indicated I only want to meet people with at least an Associates Degree. However, I continue to be matched with many people with just a high school education (including custodians and a prison cook). This is also true for other categories such as Politics and Ethnicity as well. These may be really nice people who would be great friends, but I don't want to date them.

This is extremely frustrating, because almost everyone over 50 will pretty much be the same in "Has kids" and "Doesn't want more kids" so those two filters are useless. Also, even if you put limitations on your Preferences such as NO SMOKING and indicate it is Required, you will still get matched up with smokers, etc sometimes. Match.com is giving my self-esteem a beating and there are days when I leave the site filled with self-doubt. Since Match shows what filters everyone has set (!!!) when I look at the profiles of the Matches I get and immediately see that they have put filters on that should block me since I am the wrong religion, body type, etc. This is awkward. Do I drop them a note saying "Hey, I know you said you aren't interested in me, but...?"

I feel trapped now. I cannot get a refund. So, in order to get Match.com to send me good Matches, I have to spend 15 minutes daily going through the matches they've sent me, opening each one to be absolutely sure the profile has the major characteristics I want, then clicking Like or Skip. Unfortunately, another issue is that you can Skip someone but their profile will come back repeatedly. I understand that I may change my mind over time about some people, so it's nice to be able to reconsider. It would be nice to be able to differentiate between Maybe Later and NO WAY so I could limit this, though.

Match.com may be good for younger people or someone who really is able and willing to spend a lot of time on the system. The company strategy seems to be the same as a supermarket-- put milk and eggs waaay in the back of the store, and periodically reorganize the shelves so you have to spend more time there and look at more merchandise. If you know who you are well enough to know what characteristics you are basically looking for in a person, Match.com is NOT for you. Good luck on your journey!

On our first (and only) date, he threw me across the room by my leg. I canceled my account and decided to leave it behind me. I do not blame Match.com for this man's actions, but I received an email today saying that my account was hacked by another device. I was confused because I canceled the account eight years ago, but went through the process to cancel it again anyway. I decided to also inform them of the hack through their customer care link. When describing the hack I also said that I canceled the account after a man I matched with on their site physically abused me on our first date. As a reply, I received an auto-response that congratulated me on finding a relationship. This obviously makes me furious.

At best, they did not read my complaint and just sent this without care or thought. At worst, they did not care about the fact their site initiated a horrific experience for a previous customer and just sent this without care or thought. Again, I do not blame them for the man's actions, but the underlying theme is a lack of care and thought from a dating website. Their response to it, or lack thereof, and the fact they did not cancel my account eight years ago like I already asked is why I wish I could give this site and its customer service zero stars. Sadly, I cannot.

I paid the $120 six month price to get messaging enabled and I found several girls with an 88% or higher match. I get compliments from many people all the time telling me how handsome I am. I had over 8 pictures I uploaded which were all non selfies where I looked very presentable. Over the course of a week I had messaged all of the 9 girls I had found with a simple "HI." "Hello". Nothing rude or aggressive. Of course they were good looking because it does count. Who picks thistles instead of roses because looks don't count?

After a week of no responses I got a few requests from the website offering "guaranteed" responses for an extra $10 a month. After I saw this I immediately canceled my subscription and deleted my account. I realized this website was in it more for the money than helping people connect. This website in my opinion is a scam. It does not cost $120 for 6 months to find people and message them over the internet. Internet service is paid by you and email is free. If I had to guess, this is just another "dating" site like Tinder that really helps the predators with extensive hacks and searching for young girls for people like Jeffrey Epstein. Websites like these are most likely used as sifts for the rich with access. You could say I am full of BS, or you could agree with me because I am actually talking about the real world.

7-31-2019 Thinking about joining Match? Let me share with you my latest Daily matches from Match. I live in Georgia near Atlanta. Yesterday, when Match sent me my daily matches, one person was from VA. 275 miles from where I live. (I checked it on MapQuest). Today had a big whopping 6 matches! All 6 lived in other states and NONE were from Georgia! I've had to email Match and explain that I don't think it reasonable to be getting all out of state matches. The person I spoke with confirmed that my preferences were "matches living within 25 miles", and promised to correct this problem. Well that was about 6 months ago and still hasn't been solved. Once they have your money, They don't care about your problems! I've been a member for two years and haven't been satisfied at all. Save your money. Don't waste it on Match.

I joined with an open mind and right off the bat started talking to some men. However they were not real. They used fake profile pics, stated they were in CA and they were in Nigeria. I was able to piece this together by doing a reverse image search and found the real person in the picture. Too many red flags and Match.com does literally nothing to safeguard you from these scammers. I reported the scammer to Match.com and received no response from Match.com, nor was the profile removed. Since I paid for the service I went on and found 5 additional profiles that were fake. Before I canceled I was again contacted by another scammer. If I can spend 15 minutes researching this why can't Match.com for the safety of their members. I was sad and disappointed, perhaps I was a target because I am a widow. But it isn't worth it, other sites do a better job vetting and verifying it members.

So here is my experience. Most the accounts are old inactive ones that Match doesn't age out of their pool to make it look better. Lots of obvious scams that somehow make it through the profile screening but if you want to post anything like "I am taking a break and won't be responding" to your profile they block then change with a message you cannot reply to stating your update was rejected because it references violence or illegal activity. ZERO customer support and ever escalating costs. Also, they had a Match event in my city of 1.25 million, I went and was the only one there. Literally just me. Given my experience I can see why. All the claimed members in town when I search are likely people that joined earlier, realized it is a scam and quit but Match keeps using their profile to trick others into the same.

I was on Match in 2018 with limited results. I joined again in June 2019. To be fair, I've had zero problems with the software or hackers from Mongolia. I've figured out how to determine if users are paid members by the green or yellow dots. Sadly around 80% of the listings seem to be expired. The other 20% are populated by either fake profiles or really are tall, snooty rich white women who seem to spend a lot of time on expensive vacations in Europe or Fiji. Roseville CA is a pretty conservative area so I didn't have high expectations but in 3 weeks I haven't met anyone face-to-face. You can get likes, correspond once or twice then it all stops. I say don't waste your money here; there must be a better way!

I have had a really bad experience with Match.com customer service. A few times they've deleted my profile for no reason, after numerous emails exchange it was restored. But it had been deleted a few more times. Furthermore, a few times it was deleted and no explanations provided. The last time when I've created a match profile I've tried to upload a few photos, fully dressed, very decent. However the moderation team kept rejecting it. When I sent a complaint to the customer service they said that I must give them a call to resolve the problem, which I couldn't do. Because my working hours are the same as theirs. When I insisted on to continue the written communication they've simply cut off my access to my profile. Full stop.

It looks like they've deleted my profile for good, without giving me the opportunity to restore the password or create a new one. P.S. Also, while I were able to use Match, for some reasons Match system automatically adds men to your favorites who don't match your specified criteria even remotely. The same applies to daily shuffle.

The sad part is I was defrauded by this guy and he wasn't who he said he was at all, I have been so embarrassed to talk about this to anyone. I didn't get any help till I did... I have to say I am very sad that this is one of the most popular online dating sites, they are liars and should be shut down for deceptive practices. So I stop using Match for a while because I got hardly any dates off of it, just messages from people having "conversations", and I have suspected that some of the girl's profiles were fakes. But then after that it was just bad luck too, there are people who meet a girlfriend off Match.

Here's is what got me, they brought me back into the website with emails several times stating I had likes and messages. The most recent time I signed up for 6 months, then I found out what they did to my profile. My name was still "Wes", but now my profile said I was 63 and it had a fake picture. All my pictures and information was GONE, deleted! But the profile had my email and I was getting likes from older women, I am only 37 lol. This pissed me off because I thought I had likes and messages from women my age, and that if I signed up I would hopefully at least get a date or two.

So now it's been months and my membership is almost up, only got a date out of the whole thing. But you need to meet a few people to actually meet someone, this game they play of fake profiles and messing with the website wastes everyone's time. They want you to take too long to find someone, so that you keep paying them $$. Pretty shady business model, I'd say take your online dating business anywhere else. Might cost you more money initially, but you also might actually meet someone lol.

OK, first let me say that I did meet a couple of very attractive women through Match, but the responses are few and far between. My real complaint is that they actually lie. When I decided I had a enough I removed all of my photos and changed my profile name to "Elvis" with a description of "... has left the building". The only category I filled out was "Never again will I" with a response of "Waste time and money on Match". This was my entire Match profile after the update. My premium membership included a one time personal review of my profile. I had never used this so I decided to redeem it, mostly as a joke. I received an email from "Emily" stating "I took an in-depth look at your profile". Here are some of the comments from the review based on the profile described above:

"You are clearly off to a great start!"

"You are so close to having an awesome profile! The only thing missing is 1-2 additional Topics".

The most likely explanation is that the review is poorly designed automated software. The only other explanation I can figure is that "Emily" (who I don't believe exists) was really supposed to review my profile and just did not do her job. I don't really care about the review, I had already canceled my subscription so it wouldn't renew when it expired. I do care about being lied to, I don't like it very much!

Poor choice of matches likely because more people are using other platforms. Customer Service is bullying. Policies are deceptive... you cannot subscribe without it being a RECURRING subscription. To cancel the recurring part the number of screens and deceptive warnings are incredulous. They basically trick you into a nonstop subscription. Even if you delete your profile you still have “undone” your subscription.

In addition I found men on match to be more offensive than other platforms... possibly as it has an older crowd. Blocking does not stop them from seeing your profile so just know that they can still view you and let whatever inappropriate feelings they have... fester. Match is ineffective, unresponsive and if you ask for help their CS will respond with threats to cancel the subscription you paid for.

Match.com and its affiliates are in business to make money, period. Using your loneliness, desire to find a mate, and hopes, they suck you in. I've used Match for about 15 years on & off and they have gone downhill. I did not have high expectations. Initially had IT issues with the site which was quickly fixed. Cost is too high and you have to sign up for 3 months minimum. No problems cancelling, but I cancelled early and know my billing cycle. I set my search parameters which certainly narrowed the field down - 51 matches in a 40 miles radius using the Search feature. Reverse Match produces 1769 matches, Mutual Match shows 1309. These searches include anyone and everyone, both active and long gone as I recognize a few from years ago. Even found two exact profile pics of the same gal, different names & different ages. Hmmm.

Don't tell me Match doesn't save profiles that have expired to make you believe there are way more available singles than actually active & paying members. Note the feature "who's viewed me" and funny how a few of them can't be found in a search. Got 1 email from a gal 155 miles away, cool, but to ensure I can exchange emails, that'll cost me another $9.99. Funny how that popped up after I cancelled. I don't do phone apps, so I may have lost out there.

When I cancelled early, the Reverse & Mutual Match went away and I got the "You have 0 Matches." Day before I had 1700 plus. Emailed Match and the response was to expand my search area by 10 miles or so. I did, and still zip for matches. Guess they were sending me a message by locking me out. About 1 week later, now I am back to having matches in the Mutual/Reverse Match search. Never got any replies, but I am not surprised nor disappointed. Match holds all the cards and has the ability to manipulate behind the scenes - remember it's computer land and an illusion, all the while making Match profitable. It's all about business profits folks, and what better way than to play on your heartstrings.

I used Match.com as an app quite a long time ago when I was desperate to find someone who clicked with me and was running from the fact I needed to work on myself and know myself better in order to recognize what was right in front of me. Now I know my true soulmate and I don't need any of these dating sites. I had more than one app I was using, and all the others were easy to end completely and get rid of. Match.com absolutely sucked to use.... You have to upgrade to be able to 'get to know' anybody and no one on there is who they say they are. I never used the subscription service so never got charged for anything that I know of, and I used an email account that was not connected and now never will be connected to anything else. I went to delete the account on my own which is impossible... Even their customer service website tells you this.

They keep all of the information you ever put in there, and make it impossible to abolish the account. I called the Match Customer Support toll free number and was connected to someone who requested my password which I had forgotten anyway after resetting it to shut it down a few days prior. He then instructed me to install on my phone an app called "GoToAssist Customer" which by looking at it I knew would share my screen and also give the person on the other end access to my phone. When I refused to, he got upset and said "We know what we are doing" after I told him I already knew it would not help him or me to install. I never had the app on the phone with which I called him... It made no sense to be looking at my screen with no apps on it anyway unless he was trying to get something else.

Then he was telling me that someone hacked my account, that three hackers had control of my account, which I did not believe because I had just been in my account less than two weeks prior trying to delete it, and I had made sure that when I deleted the app from my other phone months ago that I took down all of my information and pictures I had put up and hidden my profile from the public. When I accessed my account a few weeks ago, I tried like hell to figure out on my own how to delete it. It should never be so difficult!!! All that I could do as a customer was suspend any subscription, but I never started a subscription, so I decided to call about it later.

This techie was trying to tell me that there were hackers had invaded my account and were using it for "fraudulent" and "illegal acts" to get other information from me and that he could still see all of my pictures and information through my account. He told me I needed to install yet another app to get rid of the hack and then he could help me delete the account. Then he asked me if there was a Walgreens or Walmart store nearby me.

When I stopped the screen share on the first app he requested me to download, he started to freak out on me that I was doing that. I called him out and told him I didn't believe him and said "It sounds like **." He hung up immediately when the screen sharing stopped. Please don't ever start a Match.com account, for your safety online dealing with nasty fake people, and for your identity's sake also. Never have a morning like the one I just had. Even if there's no one out there that quite fits you, just don't go to Match. You don't need the hassle!!

The only replies I got were from people in far off cities, most of whom claimed to have "advanced degree" or "college graduate", and yet they could not put together a simple sentence. You will also add singles to your Favourites by swiping right or clicking the star icon when you’re using Shuffle." I WAS NOT informed of this when I joined.

So I just paid for a 6 month subscription recently, only to find out that Match.com is pretty terrible. This will be the last time I subscribe and have done canceled my renewal. Here's why.

1)Match tries to milk every penny out of a subscriber after they've already spent a lot of money for a subscription.

2)You have no way of knowing which profiles are paid members and which ones are free members. I am a busy man and I don't want to waste my time liking and writing to women that can't even respond! And no, I am not going to waste another $60 so the free members can respond to me. Match has been totally useless thus far and I've had the worst results using this site that I'll be damned if I waste another penny. Worst results meaning zero in the first month.

3)Match.com used to have a 6 month guarantee where you would get another 6 months if you met certain criteria, but they got rid of that. Now, Match just seems to care less about its customers and more about being another cash grab dating site.

4)Buying a subscription to Match.com used to actually give you full access to the site, all its features, and you were able to communicate with all of its members. Not anymore! Buying a subscription to Match feels more like accessing a possibly decent dating site which is being hidden behind a ton of paywalls.

    5) Still a ton of fake profiles, usually the decent to hot looking women with only 1 picture and bare minimum, if any, profile.

The main reason for me giving Match.com such a bad review is the fact that I paid over $100 for a 6 month subscription, only to find out that I can't communicate with everyone and that there are so many features that cost more money to be able to use. At the very least, give paid subscribers a bunch of uses to all of the features you are trying to milk your paid subscribers for! Greed is the root of all evil, and Match.com has become one of, if not the greediest of all dating sites.

First looking through Match it seems to be a good place to go. Well organized, clean looking, thorough questions and so on. But to look at any matches you need to make a profile, this is free of course so easy enough. To message anyone you need to pay. Usually around $20 a month with a minimum of 3 months. Cool, made a profile, reviewed matches, found a few interesting ones and subscribed. That's why you get to find out that 90% of the profiles shown are non-subscribers. This means that not only can they not read and reply to your message, they don't even get notified of it. And sending a message is the only way to know someone isn't subscribed because Match won't let people state it in their profiles. So you want to cancel your subscription, easily done. But if you send a single message or view any of your likes while subscribed for even an hour you automatically lose all rights to a refund, no matter how much you paid for it.

All in all, a massive waste of money unless you're in your 40s or older since that seems to be the only people who pay for subscriptions. It's basically a massive catfish. You're better off saving your 70+ dollars and going on OkCupid for free. At least there you only have to put up with annoying messages that don't drain your account.

I installed the app yesterday, thought to give it a go as I heard it is one of the most popular apps out there. Within minutes after full registration I realized that you can only read/reply to messages if you pay for membership. I naively paid for 6 month membership as it was on 'offer', ended up paying £60 just to read the messages.

I have used the app on and off for a few hours and I have truly been scammed. All the messages are from people abroad, in broken english. Some accounts look totally fake. I have been bombarded with winks and favorites, but again, these are men hundreds of miles away and some 20+ years older than me. I have NO control as a young woman who sees my profile and who contacts me. There is no filter to contact despite paying a hefty membership fee. I have to pay £10 per month extra just to hide my profile from scammers and creepos on the app?!

Basically I am scared to use the app just looking at some of the messages I am receiving and as I have no control over who is viewing my profile and contacting me. No wonder apps like Bumble are becoming popular with young women because Match.com DOES NOT CARE and will not provide any privacy or security despite charging membership fee.

I went to Match.com's site really just to browse. But they have you create a profile even just to search. So I created a profile, did a search and saw some interesting potential matches. I considered purchasing a membership but wanted to think about it. So I typed a brief description that literally just said that I was interested in dating and a possible long term relationship with a charming male. I logged out, and when I tried to log in later to purchase a membership, I received a message that my "account" was suspended due to violation of company policies. Lol!

Obviously a mistake on their part. I sent customer service an email and they responded "Due to our terms of use, your Match account has been terminated. Due to privacy practices we cannot disclose specifics.." Had I purchased a membership they would've cheated me out of my money. Consumers beware! I've also read complaints about other online dating sites and apparently there's some systematic problem with these sites in general that cause member accounts to be deleted without proper cause, and then the sites refuse to fix the problem or give refunds. I wouldn't be surprised in class action lawsuits start to appear in the future.

On March 18, 2019, after having a free account for several months, and being offered many promotional pricing offers, I finally joined Match. I paid $44.83 for three months for a Basic membership. I was receiving many likes and was contacted by many members and I responded to some of them. About 5 weeks after I joined on the week of April 22, 2019. I tried to add some pictures from my Facebook account. The next day I noticed I had a note from Match saying that I had to contact them by phone. I contacted them within 48 hours and was told that my account had been cancelled and that my money had been returned.

I asked why that had been done and was told I would receive a email within 2 days explaining the situation. I was furious. I had a date planned and I had no way to contact my date and tell him I was locked out. I did not get an email from Match until about 4 days later. On Monday, April 29 I got this message: "Unfortunately, it looks like your account may have been inadvertently disabled because of a technical error. I'm sorry that this happened. I've checked the issue and restored access to your account. To re-subscribe, choose the package you want and click on Continue. The next screen offers Premium Features if you haven’t selected a package that includes them. Select what you want and click Continue. Next, you’ll see your total charges on the right under Review your Subscription. Fill in the form on the left with your info. Make sure to review the auto-renewal policy, and then click Subscribe Now. You’re done!"

I checked the prices that were currently available and nothing matched the rate that I had previously had. I would have had two months (minus 1 week) for my original deal. I wrote them and told them I wanted my original deal, which I had paid for and been using. They refused to match that rate or give me a free month. I feel like the victim of a bait and switch scam. I plan to report them to the Better Business Bureau. Donna **.

    Reviewed April 28, 2019

It's a standard dating app like most others, although this one is costly and it's loaded with ads on every page you can imagine, including in-app add-ons.

    The good:
You can upload pictures of yourself.
You can write a description of yourself.
You can indirectly see who has viewed your profile.
You can view, reply to, and initiate messages to other people.
There does not appear to be many bots, or fake profiles designed by those with a vested interest in making the site appear to be more successful or attractive than it is.

You can search for potential matches and include filters like body type, radius, religion, etc.

    The Bad:

Ads are everywhere! Literally almost every single page you can be on. Not static ones that you can kind of dismiss, but dynamic, moving around distracting you ads. Most of the ads in your visual space are for their associates, other companies they have business agreements with. The remaining ads are to grant you access to features that most consumers would assume their monthly subscription cost would cover.

The search tool defaults to displaying profiles based on how much those profiles have paid the website, called "match picks" as opposed to common interests, distance, age, or other parameters people are concerned with. Basically if you pay to use match, you still need to keep paying if you want others to see your profile. Furthermore they don't tell you this, so you only really find out after losing money with them. Although searches will always default to showing profiles who spent extra money with this site, you can manually change it, and you'll have to do it every single time, to a more beneficial sorting display like distance, or activity date, through a non-intuitive icon as opposed to clear text.

If you like to use a phone to go online, the experience is even worse. Every time you go to sign on it will prompt you to download their app complete with even more advertisements. You have to manually X out of it, and again, and again, to get to the home page.

You can see that someone had viewed your profile on almost any screen, which is a good thing, however to see who they were you'll need no fewer than 3 clicks, and dodge no fewer than 3 other advertisements and scroll past their "boost" option to purchase, which is how a person can temporarily manipulate the default sorting display (match picks) to have a shot of showing up in front of other people.

This last "bad" thing about Match is more about the business than the product itself. It has a track record of buying out competitors that have the same features, but without a cost for users, and then making that former competitor much worse, driving former users to their own paid, and chocked full of advertisements, site.

Bottom line, it's not totally useless, but if you like advertisements dominating every screen, and and want to lose money without really knowing where it's going, you'll love this app. Otherwise stay away.

Towards the end of March 2019, I received a flattering offer from Match and purchased a 6 month subscription for $60 USD. All that elapsed between then and now (April 17, 2019) is as follows. Filled out my profile, which is very extensive. The bio section must be approved by a match rep. I wrote mine and tweaked it a few times but essentially the premise is the same. I filled out my profile in all senses of the word. I even had three pictures up. I was very specific about what I was seeking. What I noticed is the site doesn't follow any specific algorithms and instead, does the opposite of what you ask for. If you're looking for men between the ages of 35-41, you might get a few hits but majority are older and don't fit the criteria of what you want. Think more along the lines of creeps, angry and hostile men, narcissists, predators, etc.

The main profile picture has to reveal your face in order to be approved. Other photos can be anything as long as it's a representation of you. But, who's really going to know what's a representation of you when loads of people on the site aren't who they say they are. (Plenty of catfishing). Having been inundated by messages, several of those were off-putting to say the least. I'm still learning how to use the site and at this point, was now in contact with another user. While communicating with this person, my account gets frozen. I'm unable to access my account for a week and unable to get a hold of customer service for the days following upon discovery. When I do reach out to CR again, Carlos helps me figure out what's up. He tells me, someone had tried to access my account and has sent messages from my account! To maintain the integrity of my profile, I should reset my password, which I did.

Not even a few days pass by and I try to sign back into my account, but learn that yet again I am blocked! After multiple attempts at logging in and failing, I contact Match by email and by phone numerous times without any response until Apr 16. Then I receive an email from Sandee, vague as ever, telling me that this will be the last correspondence between us. Um, ok. Meanwhile here I am not knowing what is going on and why this is even happening, again! So, I call customer service for the tenth time and speak to Melvin. Melvin tells me that because I deleted my photos and hid my profile, it was flagged by security and the matter will need to be taken up with corporate!

Since I was communicating with an individual from Match and receiving weird messages from others, I decided to remove my photos (it made me feel uneasy knowing what was said by a user) and hid my profile because I was getting to know someone offline at this point. Melvin asked if I reported anything and I said no because this is what happens on sites. It gets better. I get numerous messages beforehand telling me that of all the profiles people have come across, mine is actually well thought-out and filled out accordingly. Many profiles have many photos up and no information while very few have information up and few pics. So in my case, for someone whom is actually interested in a long-term commitment I'm getting flagged on a continuous basis!

I explained to Melvin what my experiences thus far have been like since he told me verbatim that Match is a service intended for long-term commitment and not just a dinner and hook up. I find this to be so ironic, given the amount of people on the site who aren't actually seeking a long-term anything and are more keen on hooking up even if they pretend they're not. What led to deleting my photos was a comment made by a user, "looking at your lips and imagining what they can do" while being sexually explicit in a message! Yet I'm the one whose account is terminated and supposedly overreacting by deleting my photos. The whole situation is absurd. People who are genuinely looking for a connection get treated like this. Something is very wrong. My Match account was terminated without explanation or a conversation on Apr 17th.

I feel that I was too old for the bar scene, and the nature of my job made it difficult, if not impossible to meet someone to develop a relationship at work. I've used other dating sites, and they tend to be more prohibitive to pare down the type of person you are interested in, you have to answer a litany of screening questions, etc.

Match.com does have its share of people looking to scam, hook-ups, liars, cheaters, etc., but a conversation or two and/or a quick meet-up for coffee or a drink can usually uncover those who are there for their own selfish reasons. Like anything else in life, timing and luck play a role, but for those who are looking to meet people for a potential relationship, Match.com is a option that can bring you in to contact to a potential partner you would never have the opportunity to meet otherwise. Not only did I meet my wife on Match.com, but previous to that, I had a date that didn't work out romantically, but we ended up becoming good friends to this day, and I recently went to her wedding.

Shortly after a woman I'd messaged responded with a request for a chat to which I'd responded accordingly, her account was blocked for reasons unknown. I repeatedly discussed the matter with customer service, only to be told that there was "nothing we can do." A block as a block, and company policy — on pain of the reps being fired — prevented them from simply letting the woman know that because the block had happened AFTER we'd connected as described above, they would at least give her my contact info (phone number and email address) and let her decide what to do with it. With nothing to lose from doing so and everything to gain — the woman, myself, and Match.com — "company policy" could not be "violated," period. Which is to say that this "matchmaking" company couldn't lift a finger to further its own reason for being, its employees too frozen in fear to do their jobs. Disgusting.

I've been on Match.com for two different stretches. I did connect on two separate occasions with dates that evolved into short term relationships. However I would not recommend this site to anyone unless they understand how the site "works". Match has recently made some changes in the appearance of profiles that makes it far less transparent as to whether or not the profile is "active" - meaning has a live subscription and can respond to emails etc. In my first subscription (3 month period) about a year and half ago, it would say next to a profile primary picture "active". Sometime in the last year, they changed this to a dot that becomes partially colored or fully shaded according to how recently the person signed on.

What I've figured out is that the person may be signing on to peruse pictures (or because they got emails from Match that they have "likes") but that doesn't mean they have an active subscription and can actually see your email or reply. I know this because in my last subscription I signed up for "read receipts". Most of my emails are never read, which tells me the users are inactive. (You might think that sounds vain on my part LOL but I think even if people aren't interested, they at least open the inbox and read the communication - don't you?)

In the last month, Match.com also deleted the "income" section from their profiles. There was no announcement or discussion or explanation. If you read dating articles from Psychology Today, Forbes, etc - these articles note that showing income, for those who want to display/discuss it - is generally seen as a favorable bullet point for user consideration.

Match.com is not for the faint of heart, especially for the pool of us 50+ users. People lie about their ages in their profiles, put up pictures that are not recent and the pool of active users is much smaller than is projected. It is normal for someone who is serious about using the platform to have many many non-responses to emails and smiles and likes. If you chose to use it, you should put it in the context of "just a tool" to meet people and remind yourself that nothing on the site is "personal". You should also wait for specials and sales to get discounting prices. Highly recommend the read email receipts so you know when emails go unanswered, that it's not that the person isn't interested... they aren't even "home".

The pictures and profiles that they "matched" me with were so wrong. This was my second experience with dating sites. I believe that for the most part they are a scam to line someone's pockets. I have discontinued my service after the three months. Have received confirmation of this, with confirmation number and the date my subscription ends. I think I'll just go back to the old fashion way.

My profile was very generic and in no way provocative or offensive. I logged off for several hours, then when tried to log back in, only to get a message that I was blocked from my account without explanation.

I sent an email to customer service (ha, what a misnomer) to ask why. It took over 24 hours to receive a response, which simply said: "Please know that due to our Terms of Use, your Match account has been terminated. We believe this action to be in the best interest of our member community." I am a mature, upstanding member of my community, have a high level, professional position that requires a 10 year FBI background check and have been a teacher at my congregation. IN NO WAY did I do anything offensive or even close to anything violating the Terms of Use. I then left and decided to rejoin last year in 2018. I've been signed up for other six months but didn't manage to get one date in this time. I let my subscription expire about one week ago to sign on this evening and found seventeen people favorite me and two winks. I got an average of two favorites a month when I subscribed to their overpriced service but why I am now getting so much attention from all of those women. Especially in just one week after I stopped my subscription.

I am wondering whether these are genuine profiles or are fake profiles which were put on by Match.com or is your profile put at the top of pile so it attracts more views and interest from people. Either way I am without doubt it's an attempt for Match.com to insight you back into subscribing. Like I previous said it's shady business practices! And the website offers no way of deleting Likes that Match.com sends to people without your consent. Match replied saying that the first batch of Matches you receive are automatically sent Likes if you don't Like or Skip them immediately. That ticked me off. But I went ahead and used the service for two of the three months I paid for. Then I noticed that it wasn't just the first group of Matches they send. Match continued to send fake Likes indiscriminately the entire time. I sent another email to support and this time I wasn't passive about it. I told them to stop sending fake likes from my account.

I also told them they are messing with the wrong guy and that I will pursue it with press and consumer affairs etc. They responded by blocking my account...and effectively stealing a month’s worth of the service payment in the process. Here's my issue among many... If I know they are sending fake Likes from my account, how am I supposed to respond to Likes I receive? Match may be the largest, but they are still a scam, just like the rest of them. So Match...as promised, my first effort toward exposing your thieving and scamming. More to follow.

First time was because I hid my profile for 1 week out of 6 months. Ok, fine. This assessment is based on my experience as a customer of Match.com for over 5 years intermittently. Before posting this review online here, I approached their Customer Services Team and had several correspondences with them. The conclusions are as follows: The person who replied to my inquiries each time refused to give me his surname, stating that he was 'one of the Customer care advisor on Match.com' but 'unable to give me his surname.' He refused to send or advise me of the Internal Complaints Procedure, before -as I said to him- resorting to Third Parties.

Match.com did not advise me of any automatic renewal of my membership. I paid £4.99 for a one-month subscription, then £39.99 was taken out of my bank account. I became aware of it on time in the beginning of their so-called renewal period (next month), deleted my profile and terminated my membership with them. The services (of usage) Luke referred to happened without my prior knowledge of automatic renewal

Additionally, the service I received during my subscription in early 2019 fell below and hence failed to satisfy the Trading Standards (contrary to the promises made on the online platforms by Match.com). According to a similar complaint: 'No doubt some people do hook up on Match but by and large I don't think that is the norm for their users and the way users are treated by Match is a despicable, and they are completely overcharged'. This provides further incentive to my argument that I would IN NO WAY be willing nor expected to pay £39.99 more (i.e. £35.00 extra). This is considerably higher than the one-month-only subscription upon our agreement for my membership subscription. They could equally and alternatively have deleted my account, instead. I NEVER ASKED FOR MY SUBSCRIPTION TO BE RENEWED IN THE FIRST PLACE.

As is the case with similar experiences and disappointments, what the company is practicing consistently as a business policy is a deliberate ploy by the owners of Match.com to make it is as difficult as possible to cancel their overpriced subscription. After googling this issue with Match.com you find that they also are guilty of continuing payments even when people have somehow managed to contact the Customer Services and asked them to stop taking payments'. I am now pursuing my case via the third parties, as I promised. This is including the Financial Ombudsman and shall also do so with further online reviews. I hope this is helpful.

Honestly, Match is better than POF or Cupid. By having paid members, there are less people looking to hook up or post dirty offensive emails or nasty pictures to women users. On all these dating sites we have scammers, game players, and married people. I don't think Match.com has any more bad stuff than POF. The problem is this... Being a modern-day middle age woman with no grey hair yet and fit body and college degrees trying to date men within 5 years my age up or down (my age) when these men want young girls, it makes it hard to date!!! We live in a society where everyone is so critical of one another and we have chip on our shoulders. I think some men need a therapist more than they need a girlfriend or wife.

Most guys today do not want to put any effort into dating a good woman or driving 50 miles for a date. This is not Match.com fault. It is a character flaw on that consumer of Match.com. I am not protecting Match.com However, I think other users are spot on with another issue. We have paying members and the ones who do not pay in our matches. I think Match should go back to their OLD FORMAT from 2 years ago of letting paying members KNOW who is a paid member and who is not. Most people looking for a serious relationship will be paying members and don't want to fuss with non paying members who cannot afford a membership.

From my past experience on Match.com, non paying members are not serious about finding love. At best I'd give Match 3 stars and I have been a user of Match off and on past 5 years. I met some great people and had some awesome dates from Match.com. I have not met anyone yet where there is a spark. That is not Match.com fault. I do think Match could do better job keeping scammers out and anyone discussing money figures on profiles or messages back forth should be banned or have customer service give them a warning.

As a combat war veteran, I wish Match.com would have a dating site for war veterans. I am 50 years old active, attractive but not in the workforce due to issues from Iraq war. I wish ya'll had a site just for us. I still think of all the date sites match is still the best. I just am taking a break from online dating and going to try to get out more to meet people face to face. I think it is good to switch it up.

Simply put Match.com is a scam. Make no mistake, their only goal is to get as much money out of you as possible selling the dream of finding your soulmate online. Their advertisements are good at drawing you in, but once you are in you are on your own. They try to sell so many extras to "boost" your chances, but they are nothing more than gimmicks to get even more money out of you.

Meeting people on this site is next to impossible. If you are a guy under 6 feet then don't bother at all. Most of the women on this site only want men who are 6 feet plus. Even the women who do claim they don't mind under 6 feet won't respond to your messages. What's even more of a joke is the women who do message you go ghost when you respond back. This leads me to believe that many of the profiles on this site are fake; possibly created by Match employees themselves.

If this wasn't bad enough, their "daily matches" are often filled with women who don't like people of your ethnicity, too far away from you, or too young/old. I fell for the scam when I should have known better. I've already have my account set up for cancellation and am prepared to change my credit card number right before my account expires, so they won't still continue to charge me (another one of their scams). Their guarantee is a complete joke once you read the details. Stay FAR FAR away from this site.

Unlike other reviewers, I don't think Match is flooded with fake profiles. Trust me, I have tried just about every dating site there is and the free dating sites are flooded with pornographic images trying to lure you to prostitution sites. However, even on sale Match's membership is rather pricey so it is possible many of the profiles are free users who can't receive any message you send or the person abandoned the profile because they weren't getting attention. Match definitely needs to make paid users stand out so you at least know you are writing to someone who can respond. I'm quite picky about who I am looking for, so there were only 30 people in a 50 mile radius who met my criteria. The automated matching is rather annoying since they use machine learning to choose who to show to you and they can't seem to get the idea that I am picky about what I want.

The automated matches frequently have flaws that make them undatable for me such as extreme distance or outside my age window. However, the kinds of people I most want to date seem to be on Match which is the reason I keep letting them manipulate me. Since I am on multiple dating sites, I can often see the same profiles on multiple sites, but those tend to be the users who are most serious about meeting and responding to messages. Like all dating sites, there is a huge asymmetry between the experience of men and women. Guys must have fairly detailed profiles that can invite conversation, but women often have very short and generic profiles where guys literally have to write messages asking about the most basic of details.

Not having to worry about obscene content is nice and I get that Match is providing a service that I'd be happy to pay for if it worked. Fortunately Match offers a free 6 month extension after meeting some basic requirements showing you are putting forth a good faith effort. Both times I subscribed, I was lured into doubling my subscription cost in order to allow anyone I message the ability to respond. I don't particularly like that business model, but the online dating world is a cost sensitive market so it is understandable if the feature performed as advertised.

The problem is that free users seem to be able to read only one message and send only one response even after paying for this feature, so you'd better include alternate contact information in the first message and risk setting red flags. Also, I suspect this feature is not applied retroactively so any messages you sent prior to subscribing to the reply for free feature will still require the user to pay. Match should also implement a three button assessment system so people don't have to think of their own rejection messages (continue, maybe later, and definitely not).

There is a reason why Match.com is not accredited by Consumer Affairs and has an 'F' rating with the Better Business Bureau. My first and only experience with online dating began last September 2, 2018. I ended up being romanced and scammed for $530,000 and only realized what happened on Christmas Day 2018. I contacted Match.com to report my loss and the user's 'name'. Only the FBI can access information, IP addresses, etc. from Match. I called again to verify that my comments were noted on my account and this time, instead reaching their call center in Costa Rica, someone at the Match headquarters in Texas answered.

I asked that my account be viewed so I knew my previous remarks were recorded. The female employee told me yes my comments were recorded and that the scammer's account had been deactivated on September 29, 2018. I asked if deactivation was a voluntary or involuntary request - it was involuntary since another member reported that the scammer, LAMAREALMAN, had been reported for asking for money. Asking for money is a violation of Match's user agreement and such violations supposedly have zero tolerance according to Match. This deactivation occurred in September 2018, yet Match.com did not contact me or any other members who had previously been in contact with the scammer.

All activity and data on the Match website is tracked and easy to sort, yet no effort was made by Match to reach out to those who had been in contact with LAMAREALMAN after the knowledge of 'suspicious' activity was recognized. An easy email 'blast' to those members who crossed paths with this scammer would have been the right thing to do. Match failed to be proactive for business reasons and to avoid anything that is contrary to their platform.

I noticed an unauthorized charge to my debit card for the present month. Called Match.com and they gave me a refund for this month and cancelled the membership. Upon further further research on my bank statement, I discovered that Match.com had been deducting a fee each month for $38.99 since March 17, 2017. I rarely use this debit card due to having a primary bank account and debit card. I called Match.com and they would only give me 1 additional refund for $38.99. They told me they couldn't refund any more than 2 months. I told them I had never applied for membership to this website. But, they said that was their policy. So they took $600+ of my money for something I didn't sign up for, nor authorize. Scammers, that's all they are. DO NOT APPLY TO THIS OR ANY OTHER ONLINE DATING WEBSITE!!!! They are all scammers! They know we cannot do anything because of their policies. Many fake profiles and scammers active on Match dating websites that many users do not know. For example, I did not know Match allows users to post fake profiles and has no warning for these words “fake profiles and scammers” on the page I signed up. This information may not be able to help those of you who have already been stung, but it may provide some helpful information to someone. My experience with Match.com occasionally over a ten-year period went from great to terrible. Even 10 years ago, I believe most users were able to tell which profiles were stale or no longer actually in effect. We all navigated through to find the real people, and had good success. Lately, though Match.com seems to be experiencing technical problems, either by hackers or actually self-inflicted through deceitful practices or sharing profiles across too many platforms. (Easily recognizable when there are questions you did not have the opportunity to answer, or a layout that is different from your own.)

As a New Year’s resolution to again seek a long-term partner, I signed up on 4 January 2019. I had a long, in-depth summary coupled with at least a dozen good quality photographs. I corresponded with two or three women who seemed genuinely interested, although they were not actually in my immediate area. By the second day I actually exchanged phone numbers and texted with two of the ladies. I was due to meet one of them about 45 miles away, but she never showed up, even though she texted me until the last minute telling me how excited she was to meet. This is the first time I have ever experienced such a turn of events.

Late in the evening on 5 January 2019 I was unable to log-in to my account on Match.com after multiple attempts. The next morning on 6 January 2019 I was still unable to log into my account, this time attempting from three different computers. I also noticed that it looked like one of my log-ins had been hacked because my name had been changed to the name, Quest.

Now for the advice. The first thing all users should do once they commit to signing up and providing a means of payment, is to immediately go in and cancel their membership. Doing so will allow you access during the term that you signed up for, but will hopefully prevent any recurring charges. I have done this on multiple occasions, and I never had any unauthorized charges. This last experience turned out well because somehow I was able to make payment using my iTunes account. So in the afternoon of 6 January 2019 an Apple support representative was able to reverse the charges for me.

I recommend that just before your term expires, or if you choose to leave the site because you have found someone you would like to pursue, you should follow these steps: 1) Over the course of several editing sessions remove most all of your written content. 2) Do the same with your photographs, perhaps leaving one with dark glasses, ski goggles or a hat that makes you more or less unrecognizable to a stranger. 3) As a last resort, if you really are worried, you can create a written profile which intentionally makes you undesirable to any readers. The last bit of advice is to look up Match.com on Wikipedia to read about the company and to learn the names of all of its subsidiary companies. I hope this information helps someone.

I have been a member of Match.com on-and-off for a couple decades. Yes DECADES. Early this month I noticed a charge on my card that indicated I had been charged for an Automatic Renewal of my Match.com account. When I joined this most recent time (last summer?), I remember distinctly checking the "Do Not Auto-Renew" button on the membership page, because I decided that this would be my "last hurrah".

After speaking with the customer service guy for 10 minutes, and listening to him explain that I cancelled AFTER the Renewal went into effect, I would only get part of my money. I then asked for a supervisor. Only 5 minutes on hold, the supervisor came online. I explained I am not new to this and that Match had tried this stunt on me before. He explained that by indicating "Do Not Auto-Renew My Membership" is useless, because you still have to go online and physically CANCEL your membership before the renewal date or you will be Auto-Renewed.

I asked point blank, what is the purpose of having the Do Not Renew button, to which he had no good explanation. He repeatedly explained that they could not refund all my money ($140.65) and could only refund all but one month's value, which would make it $117 and change. I refused to budge and he finally said as a "courtesy" he would refund the entire amount. Then he said for me to "keep in mind, going forward" that I need to read the rules which are explained to me 3 times, thru the membership form and emails sent to me. I explained to him that there would be no "Going Forward" and that I would never again subscribe to Match.com.

So, in closing, use caution when you subscribe and the same day you join, set an alarm on your calendar (6 months or a year out) to manually CANCEL your Match.com membership at least a week before the end of your subscription. So they can't Auto-Renew their access to your bank account! Lesson? Don't mess with an experienced dating site user. I'm no fool and this isn't my first rodeo.

Current user [though the 3-month subscription is set not to renew on PayPal]. This is my second time on Match [last was back in 2012 – quite honestly, I met many quality women — dated a gem I met on Match for 4 years. Just a few observations so far, FWIW: Match pads your daily matches with fake accounts. Easy to spot: most often a single photo. Minimal, generic “About Me” copy. A quick “Search by image” on “images.Google.com” routinely results in stock images. Obviously, management’s boilerplate response might be: we’re a global site – impossible to stop, catch and block all fake accounts. Whether blatantly deceitful on Match’s part or not, it’s up to you to decide.

That said, there ARE legitimate accounts. After a short period on Match, you’ll learn to spot the real [often multiple photos, unique copy in multiple sections] from the fake. If there’s ANY question as to validity, right-click on the image, download it and either take two minutes to research the image on Google images, delete or block. Don’t risk communication. Daily matches: To justify your subscription, they deliver x-amount per day whether or not they match your search criteria – it’s obvious Match is reaching to fulfill a quota.

When and if you decide to pay, make sure you do it using PayPal – PP allows you to stop and cancel a preapproved/recurring payment. Here’s how: Click Profile next to "Log out" and select Profile and settings. Click “My money”. Click “Set automatic payments” in the “Automatic payments” section. Click the name of the merchant for the agreement you want to change. Under "Payment method," click Change next to the funding source you're looking to change. Summary: Be discerning. Be careful. Be aware/Beware. Be smart!

Unlike a lot of the reviews that seem highly subjective - (OMG, it's Match.com's fault that my dating experience was so bad). Give me a break people, sounds more like a YOU problem. I'll just stick to the facts. Using various techniques that I won't go into here - I was able to figure out with 99% certainty that people who work for Match.com intentionally create fake profiles using stock photos or Google Image Search (thank you, Google!) results. They will intentionally word profiles to grant you "hits," in your search parameters and even send you messages - All in the hope that they'll sucker you into subscribing.

Match.com has completely GUTTED any functionality that other sites grant you for free. Someone liked my profile? Can't see who without paying. Someone took the time to message me? Can't read the message without paying. I have 100+ matches in my (insert somewhat smallish town here)... But these people seem a little too "beautiful/polished" (read: Fake) to actually match the demographic in this metro area. They also SURPRISE don't exist on sites like OKCUPID or eHarmony - all which grant much better free functionality to entice you to subscribe than Match.com.

I'm not buying this garbage. Oh, and your inbox will get "hits" all the time but you can't do jack about it unless you subscribe. I wouldn't have a problem subscribing but the LEAST expensive plan is still around 60 dollars for three months with no option to trial or even just go month to month. Tired of being single after a divorce, I made the leap and signed on to Match.com. I'm here to tell you that just about every negative review you read on this consumer review page is, unfortunately true. I wish I had read all these reviews before paying for my subscription but I didn’t. Of over 325 "would-be" matches, the majority were either out of date, fake or non-paying members...which means they can't even respond to a message you may send if you have an interest.

Harboring out-of-date profiles, fake profiles and non-paying members is clearly a ploy designed by Match to increase their profits. In fact, if you ARE a paying member and want your profile to only be seen by those you choose, there is an extra fee for that. If you want to communicate with a non-paying member, there is an extra fee for that too!

Those 325 mutual matches? I narrowed it down to five people and none of them are paying members, so they can't respond to my message of interest. I only had ONE response and she ended up being a "serial dater", working her way up to a free dinner and then "Sorry, we're not a good fit." Can't believe I fell for that, but this is what's out there...serial daters, fake profiles (that even have the exact word for word profile summary), inactive members and unpaid members!

Clearly, I will not be renewing my membership. Speaking of renewing...using your settings, be sure that you cancel your subscription in advance of your end date or you will be charged again. Save your confirmation number. Additionally, you may want to manually DELETE ALL of your photos and profile info AND deactivate your account....or you will be one of the many inactive members Match keeps on file for ONE YEAR to make it look like they have a huge database of possible matches. Worse yet, the use policy you agree to when you sign up allows them to use your photos. How about that! My advice? Online dating in general is a hit or miss situation at best. They prey on lonely people who are sincere about finding a companion...all for profit. Good luck!

First off, do not subscribe to this scam of a website. Despite what the commercials and "results" say, Match.com is an atrocity of a dating site. After surveying this site for years, I can safely say this site is a scam. From my own experience, during "working hours," there have been regularly between 60-65 members showing as "active." Yet in the evening, when you would think more people are searching, it drops by 85% to maybe 5-10 AT MOST. Doesn't this seem fishy? Well it is. It's because these profiles are either made and handled by Match.com employees or they are regularly made active to present the facade to browsing users in order to lure them into subscribing, only to then see the witch behind the mask they are wearing.

The reality is that unless you're in an overpopulated area, not as many people are using this site as they make it seem. Of their "millions of users," it's safe to say at least 50% of them if not more are bots or furnished profiles. With all of the money they are making through this scheme, it is not a shock that they can pay their employees to do this for them as well as make commercials to lure even more people in, especially with the influx in online dating.

If this isn't enough to keep you away, then consider this. There is no way of telling whether people are subscribed or not, so when you send a message there's a good chance it's not even read. Also, you can't even communicate without subscribing, so there's also that. Heed this warning and stay away from this site. They are only trying to steal your money and you will be left with nothing but disappointment from it. There are plenty of other free options out there to help in your search. You've been warned.

Your 'matches' are based on nothing other than age and distance. No matter what and how many times you put something more meaningful into the search parameters. Despite it being a paid-for membership, constant flashing adverts make the experience on the desktop version a visual nightmare, sort of a 1980s disco without decent music (and without any appealing men!).

The app is one of the worst I've ever come across. It sends messages when you don't want it to, it says you've just been favourited when you may have been, but three months ago! Most of the profiles are on POF- a free site. The amount of scammers and con artists outnumber the amount of genuine profiles. The site almost instantly says I need to call them. Ok I figured it was a misunderstanding so I jumped in the shower get dressed, etc. I figured by now whatever was wrong was over. Lol yeah right. I called in. A very short almost written statement that says, "Your account has been closed and will be refunded for that payment." From now 2 hrs ago. I asked them why. They tell me, "It was decided by Corporate Office. You will get an email. Goodbye." That's was my whole experience in Match.com.

Match.com is listed as a Christian dating site. This could not be further from the truth. All the men wanted sex before marriage. In fact, one guy told me that divorced women were easy to get in bed with because they were vulnerable and craved attention. There were a lot of men to choose from, but the quality was not there.

As others have noted, there seem to be a lot of scammers! Not only that, Match.com must not own a computer with algorithms, because even when you complete every option as to what you’re looking for, it’s totally ignored. For example, I checked that I want agnostics, they matched me with a PASTOR! I said I wanted matches within 100 miles of my home, and they’re sending me people from other states, none of which are within 100 miles. Also, even though I am a woman seeking a man, they occasionally match me with other women. I guess they are afraid if you don’t get enough matches, you’ll be disappointed, but I’d rather get none than a bunch that I wouldn’t even consider. Very frustrating! And, lastly, when you see something in your “inbox”, it’s actually your outgoing likes, smiles, or whatever.

When most wise users don't even use their real email on dating site Match is trying to make it mandatory to use real email and make users give more information and make them more vulnerable and various aspects. Instead of Match.com to deal with pressing matters like reducing their charges and give members more appropriate matches, they are busy with irrelevant matter "For your safety, please request a new password" that would make many members abandon the site.

Sooner or later Zoosk.com will take over the dating business from them because Match.com seems to lack the knowledge of running a dating site now. They are not so concerned about their members and making them find better matches. Match.com should drop that ** "For your safety, please request a new password" and focus more on strategies to make members stay on their website.

The interface is just like every other dating site out there, but the customer service is nonexistent. Used it for several months only for my account to have been deleted unexpectedly. Tried to find out why and dispute, Match said they couldn't find my account. Fast forward several months later, a year subscription renewal shows up on my bank statement. After doing more reading, it seems it's a fairly common occurrence for users accounts to just disappear for seeming no reason or because one person didn't like something and reported them.

I didn't interact with a huge amount of people, I'm quiet by nature, and had only sent polite messages when I had. For my account to be removed without notification, told they couldn't find it when I attempted to follow up, and then charged for another year several months later? This company is a scam. Use literally ANY other service than this one. If I could give it negative stars I would, due to the complete lack of customer service or fairness I have received in this matter.

I signed up for the site with some encouragement from some friends that maybe the free dating sites are hard to meet someone because the people aren't as serious. So I said ok I'll try a paid one. I landed on Match because I trusted the commercials. I was sent an offer for %50 off. Good thing that's all I had to pay. I made my profile and started finding women that matched with me. I had a few matches within the first few hours. I sent EVERY woman that "liked" my profile. No replies. I tweaked my profile and kept looking and messaging people.

Here's the twist, after not hearing back from anyone I dug into this. Not everyone is a paid member, if they aren't they can't even read your message reply to you. They don't even tell you if the user is a free member. If you want them to be able to read and reply that's another $10 a month. If you want to know if the message was read that's another $4 a month. If you want to boost your profile to be seen more? Guess what... 2.50 per boost. I understand it is a business but work with the people a little. If they truly cared about you meeting someone they would allow people to message back if a paid user messaged them for FREE. You shouldn't be forced to fork over so much money to find love. Here is a price breakdown for all of their "services".

$20.99/month for 12 months. $23.99/month for six months. $26.99/month for three months. Then they offer a slew of "add ons" to "help you" including the message read feature, allow free users to read and reply to your messages, boost, have an expert write your profile for you etc... I don't think anyone should EVER waste money on this site. You have been warned!

The navigation tools, both technical and algorithmic, seem far worse now and are definitively inferior to other dating websites. Match also impedes any real attempt at a free trial which makes the MO appear to be a "money grab" (as someone described it). It's unfortunate that, with all the tools, expertise and funds at their disposal, they have not developed a more effective, aesthetically attractive and navigable website that serves an increasingly popular method of romantic connection.

You’ve sent me so many profiles of men ranging between the ages of 50 to 58. You’ve sent me Matches of men who are looking for women between 40 and 55 years old. Not only are you dishonest to me but also dishonest to men. I’m 65 yrs old. Can you not do the math. Now how is that a Match for me. You said that you have over 100 000 members on Match. Why is it that YOU decide how many matches or should I say fictions matches I see in a week.

And some of these matches are NOT members anymore on this site. It’s always the same message, Bummer, you have to check back later and, 3-4 days later I get Matches. You spoon feed us matches. This site is very frustrating and full of deceptions and lies. You do not own up to your name. I’ve asked for Matches at a 50 mile distance. I received profiles of men living at a 5 hour plane flight or 3-5 hour drive from my postal code. To prey on vulnerable people who are looking for love is distasteful, disgraceful and outright dishonest. Have you no pride? Have you no integrity? You have no consideration and no respect for people who join your site.

The website is a total mess and the interface is very poor. I've been on a less popular sites that aren't big funded & mainstream like Match that have easier to use mechanics (mechanics that won't make the site terminate you over an accidental edit). I kept getting the same old people and same matches. I joined just out of curiosity because I wanted to profile browse (had the account for at least a week). I had to make a profile to do that so I decided might as well give this a try to see if I can find someone. I got lots of views and likes. Even messages but you have no way of replying back to these messages men send you UNLESS they themselves buy a separate package ($10 or so) that allows people they message to be able to respond back FREE regardless of membership status.

So many catch 22s with this and this alone kills the whole purpose of the site because you can't even SEE your messages at all nor get a preview. I'd be willing to try and pay if I could see what was said to me but not be able to reply back like some sites. So I won't have to take a gamble. Because I'm not a serious online dater and am new to this scene I didn't know that you can see who messaged you through your e-mail. I automatically assumed from how locked all the features were you would have no way of knowing at all.

Either way it's still a risk and gamble because of course you don't know what the people are saying to you or if it's worth it. So out of all the little buzz I received I only had 2 free messages. An Asian I randomly liked and another white guy I accidentally clicked like one in the search. Seriously if you are here to find love or date in person why would you not get the option to message EVERYONE? I had so many messages that were locked. I don't understand at all. What's the point of upgrading if you can message anyone but at the same time if the person you're messaging isn't upgraded it does not work?

Nobody seem to use common sense on the site. with how tightly locked everything is I sort of understand why going off Match.com is an option communication wise but when guys push for you to leave the site and talk on other apps it's a pain. I believe everyone that says the site has bots, fakes, or forged profiles. Cause with how obtuse the Match.com set up is where all you can really do is like profiles and view if you're free (maybe respond if one upgraded member has that option) you'd think you'd see tons of pages saying add me on ____ site or app if you're really interested as a side message but nobody says that nor acknowledges that?

Many normal looking guys and profiles but I still don't trust it. The Asian guy who was a few years younger than me had the mentality of a child and seemed like a teenager to me. I gave it a try and he was way too clingy, hyper, and rushing everything with minimal dating experience. Gave me a headache so I had to block his number after a while. I blocked him on the site as well. Match.com does not truly match anyone. It's just based on what you put as preferences and your likes hobbies wise. A majority were okay and up my alley but content wise in their about me's it was opposite.

Anyway here comes the kicker and angel in disguise for me - I came to this site ConsumerAffairs because I was nervous about upgrading and feared getting scammed. So after reading the reviews and knowing that I wasn't ready to online date (let alone on match anymore) I was cleaning my profile out taking down all the info and pictures leaving whatever I could leave blank as I could since I heard on consumer they keep you in the database. So while I'm stripping my profile clean I delete my profile photo and guess what... THEY DELETE MY PROFILE ON THE SPOT.

I got signed out of my page automatically in a mere seconds then couldn't log in again. I go to my e-mail as they say my account was locked. I go into my own e-mail and get a message saying I am no longer a Match.com member. They told me I got terminated for being married as married users are not allowed, it's a strict rule they have, you must be single or separated (the separated part is bs as we all know separated can be so many things anyway).

Funny thing is I NEVER CHANGED MY MARTIAL STATUS ON THE PROFILE AT ALL. I took off the about me essay. I took off my race / ethnic, I took off the last read books, the movies, and what I want to do right now. I took all that off and deleted my profile photos as well as wiped the rest off. I never touched age, town, age range for men or anything but they deleted me on the spot for that. THIS WAS A BLESSING AND CURSE IN DISGUISE.

Blessing: I was going to delete my page anyway and was just cleaning it off so they could not re-use my words or content for future bot pages. They did me a favor by deleting my page. If I ever re-joined again It would be with a different e-mail and from a different place not where I am now so they won't have the same IP address if it's an IP ban. They never state if it's an IP termination or regular termination.

Curse: Because the site does not state which type of termination it is. I could have easily rejoined the site with the e-mail all over again. Anyways, it's a scam because if I had paid through the upgrade to have a membership and let's say I accidentally clicked married without realizing it while editing my details for update I would have been automatically deleted losing EVERYTHING and all my progress with the likes & messages. I'd have to go through resolution center e-mail to get the page back or some type of explanation to explain.

So be careful when you're on Match period. Some people will pressure you to get on Snap, Kik, Whatsapp, etc, ask you for social media pages claiming they didn't have any luck and were about to leave. If you get tons of messages and interest but only 1-2 messages you can actually respond to, it may be a trap or waste of time. Also be careful if you're updating information or deciding got edit your page. If you accidentally click the wrong thing they will delete your account. To me I feel they did it because I wiped my page down so fast it was a red flag that I was about to leave. Instead of giving me a warning or a notice they delete me on a bs excuse. I've seen many reviews stating that people with no picture or fake pics have been on the site so it's impossible that they could take such extreme action toward someone over simple page editing.

Match.com is fraudulent because common sense: why would you have a "married" option in your relationship status or "married" in never married / married option. If your policy is dating for all singles and divorced why implement that? Match lied and looked for a rapid reason to delete me since I was trying to loophole their database so they couldn't keep my stuff after I deleted. I'm happy they deleted me and I will not ever re-join since I actually filled my page out a lot before that and I didn't make it generic. It would take too much effort to find all the guys again and I'm not upgrading so it'd be a repeat. But the married option was such a fluke. That's like going to ** people meet dating site and adding Asian, ** and Italian background options. It would not make sense.

One minor mess up because of Match.com's wonky interface and set up resulted in my account being deleted. They lost money and missed out since before I saw consumer I was about to try it but not now. Stay safe everyone and leave Match.com alone. It's mass mainstream scam. Just because they advertise it on television does not make it legit as they probably paid big advertising bucks for it and paid actors to talk about Match. Match needs to only have a cheap option to message people back and forth.

Updated on 01/31/2019: For many weeks leading up to the end-date of my account, I received the daily 'new matches' email. The overwhelming majority of the 'matches' were recycled profiles from prior 'new match' emails. I only had the occasional notification of my profile being viewed and rarely had a "like" message from another profile. This is due to the fact that the majority of profiles are inactive (at some point they were a paying member, or they signed up for a free weekend, etc).

The day my account expired I suddenly had several notifications of other matches viewing my profile and numerous matches sending a "like" message. This continued for a few days after my account expiration. I know this is not a new observation, but I wanted to confirm I encountered the same thing many other consumers complained about. Just stay away from this site. It is a waste of money and time. They are singularly interested in monthly subscriptions getting renewed, nothing else.

Original Review: Generally, you receive a daily email with new matches. Many are the same profiles from prior daily emails. Right clicking is disabled, so you cannot open a profile in a different tab. Each time you look at a profile, it shows up in their "who's viewed me" queue. So unless you want to look like a stalker, make sure to only view a profile once. It is purposefully structured this way, as it drives members to purchase private-mode: either $3.99 for 24 hours or $9.99 a month. Private mode lets you view profiles incognito. I do not like having to purchase something additional as an already-paying member (I did not purchase it). When you view a match's photos, the 'send a message' text box at the bottom obscures any captions that may be attached to a photo (great web design Match.com!).

Also, in the 'who's viewed me' queue there is sometimes a mysterious red dot next to a match. I was not able to determine what this red dot means, as searching Match.com's help-page did not produce anything. The customer service email link does not work. I received an error message (using both IE and Firefox, disabled Adblock on both, cookies allowed) that said: "Using Safari? We need you to allow cookies..." Same error for the 'live chat' support link. Searching Match.com for their customer service email was fruitless. So unless you want to phone them, good luck.

Calling their matching system an algorithm is a complete misnomer. I constantly receive matches that are outside of my set age range, mismatched according to my 'must haves,' matches that are outside of the distance I set, etc. Many profiles only have 1 photo and a brief/blank description. Many profiles are old/inactive: the photos are timestamped (e.g. 01/01/2012) or the profile's bio references dates from many years prior, etc. I've already canceled my account. From all the negative reviews here on Consumer Affairs, I'm crossing my fingers I do not get falsely charged.

This site makes you feel dirty to be on it. Most of the men that contacted me misrepresented themselves. Match needs to verify age by asking for social security numbers of prospective members. I want to strongly warn women about how predatory this site is. No matter how conservative your photos are many of the members only want one thing. Men on Match always want you to give them your phone number and get off the Match platform. Once they have your number they are a completely different person.

I have had to block these members on my phone. I made this mistake of giving my number and the results were scary. One of the men had a mug shot in North Carolina for stalking. The other man had 10 Driving Under The Influence charges, suspended license and was 30 pounds heavier than photos. Only one man was nice and a gentleman. The one positive I can say for Match was their customer service. When I contacted Match to remove my information, they quickly and professionally removed it. Before that time was up, I tried signing into my account to cancel my subscription but the email and password I always used all of a sudden wouldn’t work. I clicked to reset my password but the reset email never showed up. I went to my local bank and paid for a “stop transaction” on my account to block the name that Match used to take the money out under back in April however, when the day came to renew, they took the money out of my account under a different name which still screwed me out of my money. I contacted Match using their customer service email and phone number. Emailed them twice and never heard back.

Finally called the number and the first man hung up on me and the second woman read back my email and told me to provide her my full name and debit card number and I refused the debit card number and she turned around and told me that email address all of a sudden didn’t exist even when I have proof that they sent an email on April 16th confirming my subscription. Will be contacting federal agents this week regarding the matter. Both people on the phone could barely speak English. This company is a scam. Months after meeting my wife on Match, we went back to look at my profile online. My profile had been taken over with the pictures changed. Many e-mails were being sent and received, which can only be done with membership, which I no longer had. It was pretty obvious that Match was using my fake account to hook members. I knew this was a practice, as any time I cancelled my membership, I got a flood of e-mails that required a membership to read. Fast forward to no longer with my wife. I tried to get my profile back, explaining what had happened, and was told that I couldn't have my account back.

Shiesters, they take your Money and cancel your account, I had to call my credit card company to fight it. When you call customer service they tell you they will email you in 48 hours, I’m a good person and I work hard for my money. They did this twice. Do not waste your money. This site should be shut down, ABC gave them an F. Check the reviews yourself. Shame on you, I don’t know how they get away with closing people's account for no reason. I'm going to contact the Attorney General.
